As someone who’s living with a middle school social studies teacher, all the posts along the lines of “why did we never learn about this historical event in school” just make me go “because your teacher was supposed to cover all of US history in one year, and they didn’t get to the Revolutionary War until Halloween because they were urged to slow down the progression of the lessons because a more senior teacher was running behind, and they didn’t get to the Civil War until Valentine’s Day because the school kept scheduling every special event during social studies because there’s no end-of-grade testing for that subject, and they didn’t get to WWI until May because they were sick for a few days and the substitute couldn’t do much more than babysit, and now they’re having to do the entire Cold War in two days, so that’s why you didn’t hear about the lesbian inventor of the circus peanut. One of my favorite things in a good romance is when scenes are repeated to show character growth/used to bookend the arc of the romance (Mr. Darcy sharing his feelings with Lizzy, anyone?) and today I’m thinking about the two scenes of Gale getting on his knees and taking Tav’s hand.

How it starts: Gale hesitantly letting Tav into his heart, letting Tav be the first person he’s shared the truth with, the first person whose touch he’s felt in over a year. The way that he clings desperately to their hand, needing their help but unsure if they will give it. The way that his expression is pleading but hopeless, his eyes dry as he awaits Tav’s judgement—because he knows that no matter what their answer is, the orb is growing more unstable, and this is probably the beginning of the end of his life.

How it ends: Gale, having not only let Tav into his heart, but given it to them fully. The way that he no longer needs to cling to their hand, but instead takes it gently, worshipfully, knowing this is the hand that saved his life. The way that there’s no trace of uncertainty in his expression, just fully bared emotion and adoration—because the orb is no longer a threat, Tav has said yes to his marriage proposal, and this is not just the beginning of the rest of his life, but the beginning of the rest of their life, together.

Playing around imagining what an older Rayla might look like (a total excuse to draw her in a dress).

I think she's between 25 and 30 here, got a bit to get used having the title as the first elven princess of The Pentarchy. The earrings are a reference to her Arc 2 concept art but for a lot of reasons it made sense they scrapped the idea so I HC that when the war is over and she doesn't have to fight anymore she will let her hair loose, wear jewerly and pretty dresses (ofc all gifted by Callum since we know how babygirl is).

Her back is open because Callum wants to enjoy the view

People honestly portray Tuvok as far too "rolling his eyes, reluctantly going along with Janeway's silly little shenanigans" - he's literally so serious about being right there with her on every decision she makes. Janeway's like "I'm going to stay behind if the ship blows up" and Tuvok's like "I'm staying with you." Janeway's like "I'm going to deliver every member of the Equinox crew into the jaws of death via an alien revenge massacre" and Tuvok protests a grand total of one time before being fully on the bridge assisting her. He was the only one with her when she made the decision to honor the caretaker's wishes and save the Ocampa, dooming them all. He was willing to get court marshalled in order to fulfill a wish she couldn't grant by her own hand: Get them home [no matter what happens to me] <- wherein 'me' is Tuvok. This was the same wish that spurred him forward when he had to leave her on that planet and everyone left thought him cold for trying to fulfill it without her when in his mind it was akin to a dying wish, the last thing she'd ever express to him: Get them home [no matter what happens to me.] <- wherein 'me' is Janeway. He told Seven that the golden rule to follow is that the captain is "ALWAYS RIGHT" <- (His ACTUAL words) and when Seven asks if the captain should be followed even if someone KNOWS she's wrong he says "Perhaps." This man is perhaps the most ride or die dude in the universe about Janeway. Despite her labeling him her 'moral compass' he is by NO means impartial or unbiased. He'd defend her to his last breath. He canonically makes detailed psychological observations about her and has for years. He accounts for her luck when calculating the success of certain plans. It's implied in 'Twisted' that Janeway typically listens to Tuvok's suggestions and follows them nearly without fail - to the point that he's surprised and obviously irritated when Chakotay doesn't. Despite this they've been inside one another's quarters so infrequently that Tuvok can remember each instance. They call each other "Captain" and "Mr. Tuvok" even though they've known each other for twenty years. There's something wrong with them.
