just watched across the spiderverse
idk what i can say without spoiling buy uts literally so good and everyone should go see it.
in an age where ai is becoming bigger and possibly going to be used for art, and in an time where we need strikes due to poor treatment of those who create art, and especially as someone who loves the arts, in all forms (tv and movies, or books and literature, or drawing and painting, or music, or anything else) i haven't had much hope for the future of art and mainstream media. but this, this movie made me so hopeful. i was just blown away. i saw the last one in theaters too and was just as amazed then, but now things have changed in the world. yet this movie is here.
ok idk where im going with any of this i didn't mean to make this long. just go watch the movie please.

genuinely would love for some of the "both parties are the same" people to name me a single election in the entirety of the twenty first century where the outcome for the country wouldn't have been better if a democrat had won
#personal#like come on we all know shit would have been amazingly better if the supreme court hadn't couped al gore#kerry would have also been infinitely better than bush too#i'm very glad we got two years of obama rather than a mccain presidency or a romney presidency#and honestly if you think hillary would have been worse than trump or that biden has been worse than trump#or that kamala will somehow be worse than trump 2.0 as he attempts to install himself as fascist dictator for life#you're not a serious person and shouldn't be allowed outside without an adult and also should probably get smacked in the head#with a cast iron pan#every american presidential election for my entire life has very obviously been 'the democrat is infinitely better than the republican'#and has only gotten moreso as i've grown up#hell every election in general is still showing that dems are better than republicans#democrats control the house? they get stuff down#republicans control the house? they go to recess early and are legit gearing up to shut down the government in october#(of an ELECTION YEAR god please let republicans singlehandedly shut down the government a month before election day)#(as a republican tries to take back the white house please god it would be so fucking funny to watch them deal with that)#but like yeah literally vote blue no matter who because i've been alive for twenty five whole years#and in those twenty five years never once has the republican been remotely the better option or even the 'lesser of two evils' option

Bernard is the one who handles the spiders. Tim can handle many things, but spiders is not one of them
He can’t handle them *well.*
He, of course, protests this statement. C4 and swords stolen from his brother are perfectly acceptable solutions, Bernard

I will never get over the artistry in transformers one. It's absolutely mind boggling. This film is ethereal, not just in visuals but in story aswell. This film belongs in a museum, an immersive experience SOMETHING SO IT CAN BE APPRECIATED MORE

"when i think about that stuff, it feels like someone took a shovel and dug out all my insides. and i know there's nothing in there but i'm still too nervous to open myself up and check. i know there's something wrong with me. my parents know it too, even if they don't say anything. do you ever feel like that?"- i saw the tv glow, 2024
watched "i saw the tv glow" and was immediately catapulted into the abyss.
sitting in my room in the middle of the afternoon in summer has never felt so surreal. i'm not sure if any depiction of the trans experience i've come across has ever felt so real and relatable to my own. the fear and the aching longing and the suppression and the escapism and the feeling of having nothing inside you and the "it's not real if i don't think about it" AHKG!! EXPLODED. i've had every line going round and round my head for days. i desperately need to shake everyone i know by the shoulders and scream a bit.

Though I haven't gone into much detail about Stan and Ford in the Familiar AU, I've thought of something funny.
The Stans went on Unspecified Adventures together when they were younger men. Partners, in fact! And while I'm likely never going to get into the details of their eventual falling out - there's potential in those adventures!
Who knows. Maybe monsterfucking kinda runs in the Pines family, but not the one you'd think.
Stan chatting up a Siren, before Ford has to yank his brother back by the shirt. Wondering where the hell Stan went, only to find him partying with some nymphs in a lake and coming THIS close to being drowned. Hell, maybe when Stan describes one of his exes as a 'shrill harpy', he's being literal about it.
A twenty-something on the prowl and on the adventuring path is gonna run into SO many tempting creatures - and the number of times Ford saved Stan's dumb ass from human-ish ladies would go into the DOZENS.

Have you watched The Owl House?
Heya! So... I guess that one is a bit of a weird one. I started with my partner, and honestly I was having a pretty great time, it's a great show, but then it became evident they were gonna make a bully character into the main love interest, and... That just sat a little bit too wrong and close to home with me because I was bullied in elementary school middle school. So... I don't do well with bully characters at all.
Giving them a redemption arc (which I assume was done here even though I haven't seen her properly and formerly apologize to the people she damaged, but eh, maybe I didn't watch far ahead enough, who knows) doesn't help either, since I know first-hand the damage bullying does to one's self-image never goes away, at least it never did in my case, and as such I'd rather stay as far away from my former bullies as possible and I don't want them shoved back in my face. So... Yeah characters like that kinda take me back to that quite a bit.
So... Yeah, while I'm sure it's an amazing show and I was having a great time, that one hit to one little bit too personal of a hurt, and I asked my partner if I could respectfully dip out. So I never finished per se.

"Local kid makes good. Matthew Tkachuk, Stanley Cup Champion. So how does that sound? Stanley Cup Champion?" "I think it sounds better and better each time I'm hearin' it. It's been—I think—almost 2 months, I don't even know? Time has been flyin' but it just—each day is more and more incredible thinkin' about it." "So you're here to throw out the first pitch with Jayson Tatum, you're both Chaminade proud, like, you knew each other back then, you were friends in high school, and you're still friendstell me about that relationship." "Yeah, it's been really incredible watching him—I think we both started out in the league very similar years. I might've been a year before when he was at College but it's been absolutely incredible to follow along his journey, and his career. I still keep in touch every now and then. I know we've played Boston the last few playoffs and he's been to a few of the playoff games for me. I went to one of his playoff games last year when we were in Boston. So really, really cool just to watch him, it was really cool to see him play in person. I'm excited to see him, and throw out that pitch with him today."

"When you guys were younger—both obviously stand-out athletes—did you ever imagine you would be a Stanley Cup Champion one day? And he would win a NBA Championship with the Celtics? Did that ever cross your minds?" "No, I mean, he was way better at his sport than I was at my sport when we were that young... I think I had a pretty good idea that he was gonna be a star basketball player. I guess you don't really think about Championships at that time of your life. You always dream about it but do you really think its gonna happen? And for us to do it, you know, within a week or however long apart from each other, it just—what a great time for all of our friends and family, and people that are just supporting us in St. Louis. I feel like St. Louis with not having teams to—you know, in their city to root for, I feel like they really kind-of hopped on and rooted for us and the Celtics. That made us, especially being from here, made us feel really special." "City was behind ya, one hundred percent! Let's talk about the final. You guys were up three-zip, it goes to a Game 7. What's that like?" "It's not supposed to be easy! I feel like it wouldn't have made sense or worked if it, you know—wasn't that scenario. It was always gonna be a long series. For us to win the first 3 and then lose the next 3—I mean, that wasn't ideal but at the end of the day we were comin' back to our incredible fans in Florida for a Game 7 Stanley Cup Final. What an incredible environment! That is a dream game! You always talk about the Game 7s when you're younger, and those are the moments you dream of, and I got to live out a dream this year." "What was it like sharing it with your pop? You know in the postgame coverage, I see your dad all over the place, your brother, your sister, your mom—what was it like sharing it with them?" "It was amazin'! Just handin' the Cup to my dad on the ice afterwards was super special there—the moment where he was actually in the locker room after the game when, you know, friends and family were startin' to come down, and I got to hand it to him, we got to beer-shower him, he got to lift it up in front of all my teammates, they were all goin' nuts for him too! Because they know that he played such a long time, and unfortunately wasn't able to win one in his playing career but I think he would've, you know, traded that all and done it exactly the way it happened for one of his boys to win it. It was such a family—It was such an incredible time for our whole family and I'm so lucky to have such great support from them." "Fun to watch too! Last thing before we let you go. You look good in the Cardinals red, Cardinals cap—there was a time where your dad, Big Walt, liked the Red Sox... please tell me you're a Cardinal fan..." "I am a Cardinal fan! Yeah, that time is—I was a big David Ortiz fan so when he was on the team like he was...him and Albert [Pujols] were my two favourites so it's actually pretty cool I got to hang out with Albert over summer in a golf tournament—the ACC tournament out in Lake Tahoe. He was one of my sports heroes! Yeah, I've been a Cardinals fan ever since I can remember with Albert." "Congratulations on getting the Cup, thanks for the chat!" "Yep, thank you!"

I totally get gendered petnames like dude, sis, bro, and whatever else, and I get why some people might be confused as to why some trans people might take issue with a petname you might think is neutral. However, I do want people to remember that trans people often have different relationships with those petnames because they're gendered, and they might be uncomfortable with those connotations. A trans woman who doesn't want you to call her "dude" is probably not doing it to anger or accuse you of anything, but she might just have a negative relationship with that word.
I get that it can be hard to change habits, but it is worth it to include trans people. If a trans person in your life asks you not to use certain words, I promise they aren't trying to fuck you over or make you feel like you're under attack. They are just expressing a boundary - one that cis people also express.
