I don't know if this has been talked about yet but!!! The drawings in the daycare are pretty interesting!! There's two specific ones I wanted to talk about for now, but maybe if I could find a full compilation of the drawings I'd have more thoughts. I also wanted to talk about the plushie teaparty! Brace yourselves, this is going to be a very long, very messy post. I'm sorry in advance (if you choose to read it, of course).

The drawing in the top left is VERY interesting to me. INCREDIBLY SO. Now, at first I thought the glitter glue represented who drew what, but I'm starting to think that might not be the case based on other drawings. Nonetheless, this piece was clearly drawn by Moon, or he at least contributed.

Here's a close up with credit to EnigMind on YouTube (here's the video if you wanted to look through other bits of art and writing found throughout Ruin, I don't know if everything is covered)

This so obviously depicts what Sun did to him- he locked Moon away, and from Moon's perspective either didn't care about him at all or, even worse, found joy in doing so. If Moon is responsible for this drawing, which I believe he is, then this piece speaks volumes about Moon's resentment towards Sun, how much Sun has (unintentionally?) hurt him, and how conscious he was throughout this whole ordeal. I think this post by @/twinanimatronics sums it up quite well (warning for flashing images). (I know I've talked about it before but this post means so much to me you have no idea. I should reblog it.. why haven't I done that already. I'll do that shortly after this is posted, actually.) Another possibility is that Sun drew the tower and the sun only for Moon to add the clouds and the crescent moon- as if he's trying to confront Sun about what he put him through(?). I'm not sure, though, because we don't know how long Sun has been given the boot for.

The second drawing I wanted to focus on is this one. (Hi again, Dawko and EnigMind).

I don't know which of the three bunnies this is, but it's definitely one of them. I'm more inclined to believe it's Glitchtrap because of the whole virus situation, the lack of a spot around the eye, and general roundness of the head. MXES would make sense too (despite not being round), but MXES doesn't have whiskers... Unless they added those for creative flare, which is a very real possibility with these two jesters.

The only thing is that I can't tell who drew it. I don't recall if we get a chance to see it outside of the AR world, and while most of the drawings aren't affected by the Vanni mask iirc, I don't want to assume that it's impossible that this one could be an outlier. Since Moon is the only one with the virus(As far as we know), then I'd hazard a guess and say this would be another piece of Moon's.

Why did he draw Glitchtrap, though? Does that imply he can see Glitchtrap, or was it due to an unexplained compulsion to draw the glitch rabbit without him even knowing what it was? Can the others see Glitchtrap??? Why did Moon draw Glitchtrap pissed, too? What's up with that? Why is he mad?? If any of you guys have thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them. It's just so strange to me that Moon(seemingly!!!) not only drew Glitchtrap, but drew him pretty ticked off. Maybe he's trying to convey that Glitchtrap is, for lack of a better word, a bitch? I'm just not sure.

Finally, the plushie tea party. (British man strikes again)

Why is Moon fallen over and not.. literally anything else. Once again, I don't remember if we can take the mask off here (it's early in the morning, sue me), but did Sun knock the plush down? Did the "earthquake", and Sun just chose not to pick it back up? I think from an environmental storytelling standpoint, this represents what Sun did once more; he left Moon to rot in their mindscape (or code, or what have you), to grow irritated and to fester while he got to play in the light- While Sun got to be "free". But even still, there has to be a reason in-universe as to why, whichever one of the DCAs is responsible for this teaparty, did this, right? It's clearly intentional, because again, nothing else is disturbed other than the Moon plush and his chair. (I'm also just now noticing the empty third chair, which I believe represents Eclipse. Neat!! Very clever!)

Well, it's official. Helluva boss broke me. Rant below cut; SPOLIER WARNING for episode 8.

If they would just talk to each other in a functional conversation, it would be okay!!! Ahehehevhw they're killing me here. The fact that blitzø can't accept the fact that stolas actually likes him is so fucking shitty. He hates himself so much that he can't believe that stolas loves him and he can't even begin to comprehend why he would ever like him. And stolas is suffering sm because blitzø can't realize it. My poor bby is so upset and hurt bc he rly thinks that blitzø hates him when he rly just hates himself. It's so sad. Idk if blitzø knows his feeling and just can't accept stolas' feelings/the fact that he is enough (my theory) or if he just doesn't know his own feelings bc he shoves them down sm. The Song was both amazing and heartwrenching btw. First, stolas' pupils when he's talking abt blitzø!he's so scared and upset, but he's realized that he's doing what has to be done and I'm so proud of him for that. (Also worst possible day to run out of pills.) And the way he's just waiting for blitzø when he arrives... he's so scared and sad it's insane. Also his tears with his pupils and voice at the end!!!!! ok so this really upset me when I saw the post in question because it just was so...idk how someone could even do that? seriously no self awareness whatsoever and it was one of the worst posts I've personally seen come out of that batman 2022 r*ddler self- insert craze. it didn't even directly happen in the batman 22 fandom itself either but in the fandom for DC's batman audio drama on spotify. idk if you know abt that one but one thing about that podcast is that multiple of the main cast actors are poc and while they never mention anything abt the characters' ethnicities in the podcast itself it's implied by the casting decisions (eg all the Waynes are played by black actors) that the characters played by actors of color are meant to be poc too, which is also how the fandom treats it and afaik the actors even talked about representation in some interview they gave. however, because it's an audio only medium there are no canon character designs so fandom made up their own and you can probably guess where this is going bc the post this rant is about is a post by a self-described "batman 2022 r*ddler kinnie" showing their idea of the podcast version of the character, which they made to look like the version from the movie because that version "looked just like them" so ig all versions of the character must look like that now lmao. anyways the reason why that upset me enough to tell you abt it is that it wasn't just that they made this character a copy of the movie one for self-insert reasons but that they seriously said that they are upset (!) because they wanted to reblog fan art of the podcast but all the fan art of podcast!riddler depicts him as a brown south-asian man (like he is implied to be bc of the previously mentioned casting decisions!) which doesn't fit with their white boy self-insert version. and I am just. they had a "racists dni!" in their bio and seriously complained about there not being any fan art of this character as a white man bc they can't relate to him if he's desi, on what level of hypocrisy do you have to be to do that?

Oh my gosh? Yea, that's messed up in the worst way. This goes back to the "white people can only relate to white characters" topic and serves as an excellent example of it. Although it's a hasty generalization, it's prevalent everywhere in fandoms, especially regarding the person you're talking about.

Often enough, many white fans lose interest, sympathy, and admiration for characters the moment they find out they're black and/or brown. I mean, look at how Zoe's Selina was treated; she was masculinized and excluded by the fandom in any way possible-- regardless of malicious intention or not. As I said in my first post, people like this make it so abundantly clear that they don't care for those who don't look like them, yet "in a totally not racist way." They'll create headcannons and fluffy fanfics for a white psychopath before they even consider glancing at a poc, and all because "they can't see themselves in a character like that."

I've heard many good things about Batman: Unburied, and although I haven't gotten to listening to it yet, I can't be surprised that stuff like that has happened.

i saw an ask going around about an anon transfem who felt weird/conflicted abt not liking cis men and only liking trans men and a trans guy chimed in w some personal anecdotes about experiences he had w different partners and how it's v fine to just like trans men and how the mentality behind it matters and im not doing the post justice At All BUT!!

I was googling around bc I was looking for a particular fanfic and I found like three seperate reddit posts being like "uhm Why do people ship Sebastian and Ciel" and ??? Okay, listen, I realize that reddit is very different from tumblr especially in the way they talk and think about ships there but cmon. Come on. You cant find any reason why anyone would ship them? Like, I used to ship them in the past so maybe Im just more capable of empathizing with the Sebaciel girlies, it takes one to know one and all that but. Ughh idk man. I know this mostly stems from people being like "oguhgohugogu how could you POSSIBLY ship something with an AGE GAP like THAT" and, i dont know how to tell them that that some people just dont care about that. I do and it makes me a bit uncomfortable ngl but Im not gonna sit here and pretend like these two dont get a ton of moments that your average romantic ship enthusiast would kill for yknow

I mean come on. Sebastian will just carry Ciel around bridal style literally all the time and Ciel basically never complains unless someone points it out. The bit where Sebastian teaches Ciel the waltz. The Corset Scene. This doesnt have that much to do with their actual relationship, but Sebastian regularly takes on the role of Ciels teacher and a lot people have a bit of a kink for that. That moment towards the end of the circus arc where theres liquid trailing out of Ciels mouth bc he just vomited and hes panting and shit and Sebastian is grabbing and/or caressing his face being like "call my name~". That part where Sebastian gives him his ring back immediately followed by Ciel asking him to stay with him until he falls asleep. You know whats really popular right now, especially online? Couples where they like, love each other obviously but they also bicker and banter and LoWkEy HaTe EaChOtHeR UwU. yea. And thats all just the obvious palatable stuff I could come up with off the top of my head, dont even get me started on the sensuality in wanting to eat another persons soul

I dont really know what my point with this is tbh. I guess it was just me kinda ranting a little bc its annoying to me that some people cant see why Sebaciel was literally the most popular ship in the fandom even though its incredibly obvious if youve been on the fandom side of the internet for more than a month yknow. And again, I dont ship them either I just like, have eyes and some knowledge on what people on the internet like to ship. My personal opinion on Sebastian and Ciels relationship is that in order to actually properly assess it, you cant really put it in any of these boxes of romantic, platonic, familial because its more complicated than that and its more interesting and fun to just analyze them without putting labels like that on their realtionship (at least for me)

What’s interesting is a few blogs that are like ‘this is what the ga likes! Fandom is too small for a difference’ and we brought this on ourselves. Which okay, yea we did a little with buddie but I’ve been looking through a few different sites and I’m seeing a small crowd of ‘oh I loved it all and I love the new li’s’ and a much bigger crowd of, LS had a much better finale, who are these chicks, what is buck doing, it was rushed, and so on.

I’m just so tired of hearing well it’s not about you little fandom out there on tumblr and twitter crying, it’s about the millions of GA’s. Well the GA is speaking out and they may not be crying over a couch theory but they aren’t very satisfied what was put on our screens Monday evening. Just need others to stop saying they actually know this is what the ga wants and understands, that we need to stop crying, and nothing is going to change with abc. Omg.

Sorry for the rant. Just had to get a little off my chest bc I am so tired of others basically being happy that buddie shippers were let down and that we don’t really matter to what happens to the show. Like you said earlier, fandoms keep shows alive when it really comes down to it.

And while yes, I did see some WILD takes about where people were saying things were going for Buddie when I happened to peek at Twitter that I felt were a reach because the build-up we should have seen if Buddie was the direction this season wasn't there, but even EYE was shocked at that ending! Also, the GA isn't out here making tons of comments online so it actually baffles me when shows or people talk about "what they GA wants" because like, how do we know? Yeah the TV might be on and counting for viewers but are they happy with the show or is it playing in the other room while they're making dinner or answering emails? If they aren't the ones making their opinions known because they're not online how can anyone say "this is what they want"? IDK. I just think that if they WEREN'T concerned at all with how the online fandom would react, they would have dug in and had a descent build-up to the LIs for Buck and Eddie and given them a romance their characters are worthy of like they did with all the other ships on the show. But forcing it in at the end while not actually telling us ANYTHING about these women or why the guys like them or how they are good for them and fulfill what they've been looking for, just tells me that they couldn't afford to alienate the online fanbase earlier in the season which in turn tells me that they DO listen more than people have said they do. Does that mean they'll actually make Buddie canon? Not necessarily, but it does say that my post about shipbaiting was on track in that they made sure to do enough to use the online fandom to hype things up for them and couldn't risk losing that fanbase before the end of the show. Which is a dick move and I think it's perfectly acceptable for people to call them out on it being a dick. fucking. move.

I'm not saying no one should post stuff about being critical of a fandom/media/etc bc some critiques are interesting or worth discussing! If it's actually thoughtful and has a purpose other than you complaining for the sake of complaining.

What I do have a problem with is the number of posts that literally:

"I hate this certain thing because [insert something that they hate that isn't an ACTUAL criticism it's just something they personally hate with little actual claims behind it other than just not liking it]."

and then post it in the tag. I'm happy that they tag it [fandom] critical so I can block it but it just...WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS AN ACTUAL CRITICAL TAKE? It's just something you dislike about the media. It's okay to not like it but that's not a critical take. And you can post it (I ain't the fandom police) but like don't fucking call it critical when you just want to say something you don't like it. Maybe there is a better word for it (not exactly a hate post but it's not critical).

It does fit the description for critical in this image but I would associate actual criticism with number 2. I feel like if you just mix general judgments about a media and the actual analysis of why you are critical about a media, it muddies the water.

For example, and why I'm posting about it, I got back into Lore Olympus. I see a few posts with the tag lore olympus critical (think back to Steven Universe critical posts back in the day). I go, "ah ok...I'm sure these are more engaging than those steven universe posts haha"

and it's just someone complaining about not liking a particular aspect. Idk if it was meant as a joke post or not. Hell, I EVEN AGREE WITH THE POST! but I wouldn't call that being "critical" of the media I consume. I call that having a preference or an opinion.

A critical take would be maybe talking about how LO transforms many of the myths in the series and maybe not liking a few but having an actual point to the critical take. I remember everyone throwing up over the actual myth of Hades and Persephone and yea that's valid but at the end of the day LO is modernizing the myth. If you don't like that then don't consume the content. However, it's not wrong to have thoughtful criticism about it! I actually love the discussion about that bc it opens up on the topic of taking a pre-existing story/myth/etc and making it a totally different story. It's cool!

I don't know if there is a better way to tag those types of posts but I'm frustrated because I don't want to blacklist anything that has actual genuine criticism about a media I enjoy. Posts that are actual thoughtful criticism that will make me think rather than just make me annoyed. Even if I might agree with the preferences/opinions, I just feel like that shouldn't be labeled as actual criticism.
