tbh my thesis on the astronomical clock in prague might just become a redo of a tenth grade thesis i did about the history of clocks. like the question i want to answer is "why does this clock fascinate us so much" and i think the surface level answer is that it looks cool as hell and is in a touristy part of a touristy town - but on the deeper level it's like. well it's one of the oldest mechanical clocks in the world that's still ticking, and it barely looks like the clocks we have now. it's like pshaw of course i can read a clock, you just look at the dial and the hands, right? and then this clock is like. unreadable because the upper dial shows no less than four kinds of time: babylonian time (twelve hours of day + twelve hours of night, but the length of the hours varies depending on the place and time of year), bohemian or italian time (24 hours that start at sunset, good for seeing how many hours of daylight there's left), old germanic time i think it was called (that's just like what we use now except it doesn't account for daylight savings!), and sidereal time (uhhh is this the zodiac circle thing?????? i should know this)

because the thing about how we count time is, WHY do we count time the way we do? why Twelve hours specifically. what matters more, exact measurements of time units, or following the ebb and flow of daylight? has the way the shaped clocks shaped our lives?? MUCH TO THINK ABOUT. or at least i think about it when i see a clock like the orloj.

I personally think the Nox aren't naturally grey. Overexposure to colloidal silver makes you bluish grey

And the Nox of the eternal cities make heavy use of silver tears. I don't think it's unreasonable to think it's turned them grey

The ancestral followers are *also* grey, which to me seems to point to it being an environmental factor, and if it is the silver tears (or whatever process produces them) I can only assume it's not a contamination limited to the cities themselves.

My Least Favorite Anecdote

Eternity is a special character for me. She was my first 6 Star! I think she's mysterious and wise, but also playful. That being said, I found her anecdote to be underwhelming compared to the others. There's more "distance" (not sure how to put it) between us and her.

With the other anecdotes, the cast was the star of the show although they may have new NPCs around them. In Eternity's anecdote, Brian (NPC) has takes the spotlight. I think I get what they were going for; they wanted to keep her air of mystery and portray her as a humble but enigmatic figure. However, I wanted to see more of her, not this random NPC that I just met. Her insight on time and the soul is fascinating but I could sum it up in one or two screenshots, which is a shame.

Could you imagine an interaction with Vertin? I'm not saying this as a Vertin-stan (which I totally am) but because of the dynamic they could have. Vertin watched eras end and lost people, much like Eternity due to her immortality. Timekeeper and the eternal soul with too much time. The two have a certain special common ground that not many others could understand.

Her getting into more trouble with her schemes would have been fun. Or playing lawn-bowling with some of the crew members. Maybe her talking about movies with the horror-fans in the Suitcase. Having a conversation with the other old souls. Plotting with Tennant or Kanjira! What happened in Exeter? (have hints of this in her story) This anecdote feels like a missed opportunity.

Note: I don't need the answers to all her secrets; how she interacts with the world and the characters in it would be awesome. She can still be mysterious!

That being said, I dig the new Reminisce feature. It has little details that gives you insight on the rest of the crew. We have a lot of battles in Reverse, so this is a nice passive feature for busy-bodies. Bette and the others are happy to have something to do!

the thing about wei wuxian is that he’s so confident in his own abilities and competence that it at times crosses the line to arrogance (and would do so more often if he wasn’t genuinely That Good), but that same confidence does not apply to his worth as a person, as someone who people love and care for, if that makes any sense?? like he’ll never question his ability to cultivate or even to charm someone, but he DOES question constantly whether he’s really more important to his loved ones than the consequences of loving him (obvi very tied into his upbringing). it’s not even so much that wwx thinks the people around him don’t love and care about him, it’s that he can’t wrap his head around the idea of it being unconditional - how could lan wangji Actually be in love with him and want to be with him when he could have someone who wouldn’t be this difficult and costly to love. sure jiang cheng loves him, but surely not enough for it to be worth the price of standing behind wwx’s own poor choices. the fact that 90% of the time he’s insufferably secure in his own usefulness and value allows him to obscure the fact that he doesn’t quite believe he’s lovable past that usefulness!!!
