Im so in love with the narrative use of sentimonsters in ml???? And how it serves as a metaphor for parents who are Wrong??
You have Félix, who’s the most direct case of “parent thinks that having a child is like a little trophy and checkmark on the list and doesn’t want the child to actually be a person or exist or cause inconvenience.” His father literally didn’t see him as a person and based on the fact that he literally broke Félix’s miraculous he seemed to see Félix as either disposable or unbreakable. There was no sense that he needed to be loved or protected.
But then you also have Adrien, who Gabriel *theoretically* loves. I think Gabriel actually thinks that he loves Adrien as a person. But he has this idea that he can make Adrien happy through obedience alone. He thinks he can just order Adrien to be content or to have the same priorities as him. He calls Adrien melodramatic a few times even and it’s like???
Gabriel *theoretically* wants Adrien to be happy but it doesn’t cross his mind that it’s going to take more than him yelling “hey Adrien i order you to be calm and content.” And ordering Adrien to love the career Gabriel Chooses and love the girl Gabriel Chooses for him and the hobbies that Gabriel Chooses for him. And when that doesn’t work he decides that Adrien is just Beyond His Help and will be better only with his mom there.
And it’s like???? Very fun nuance with this idea of,,, you cannot yell or force someone into being happy,,, it doesn’t matter if you have their best interest in mind,,, if you never listen to what they actually want or see them as a human person then you’ll still be the villian in their story
And THEN!!!!! You have Kagami who’s a completely different case even though she starts with the same circumstance. Because Kagami IS treated like a person and has a good amount of autonomy. It’s just all Conditional. She can do whatever she wants with her life as long as its also exactly what her mother wants. And her mother doesn’t always explain why. And the thing with that is!!! It DOES work for a while!!!! She does trust her mother and actually talk to her about things. And she will defend her mother to the ends of the earth.
But all it takes is that One argument where kagami says “hey . please stop making me date adrien. i dont want to . its hurting me” and tomoe TAKES HER RING instead of listening. And its like. Thats IT.
It doesnt matter if you spent years making a foundation of trust in a relationship because Eventually your kid is Going to grow up and theyre Going to disagree with you on Something Eventually. Kagami was so ready to listen to whatever her mother had to say but her mom didn’t elaborate on anything she just basically said “okay if you wont listen without question you dont get to have autonomy” and of COURSE kagami’s gonna be like. Okay. Bye then.
And i just think it’s soooo cool how there’s these different Layers of “parents forgetting that their child is a person and not a tool for your own personal gain” and that ml shows how it can manifest in so many different ways and it shows that it messes ,up trust and relationships and then it also shows that the kids are all okay once they have love and support and someone who treats them as a person with autonomy
and theres this theme of “it is not too much to ask that you be treated like a human person . no matter how broken or how much of a disappointment you think you are. you are still in the right for demanding to be seen as a person.” And i just. I really love my senti kids i love them soooo much
this show really said “it doesnt matter what sacrifices your parents made for you, youll never be an object that they own” and i just,,, yessssss
#ml spoilers#ml s5 spoilers#senti kagami#senti adrien#senti felix#kagami tsurugi#felix fathom#adrien agreste#ml meta

They're long buried in the asks I never touch but I've had a few people ask me about if i ship anyone in bleach and for the most part I never answer because i don't, or the ones I do I do only very tepidly, and theyre all canon anyway so thats boring. But also the reason I don't is that I have a sort of broad distain for shipping as a practice --not as like some deranged antishipper horseshit(fuck those people) but just because I don't feel the impulse, and the impulse I do see in others always tends to seem predicated on grievous misreadings of the characters-- but that's a snooty beef to have with people so I don't voice my disagreements with specific/individual ships. That'd be rude.
But all that aside Bleach in particular does have one added layer to things... I think Bleach's narrative is kind of antithetical to shipping.
All of Bleach's canon relationships have this tragic and/or one-sided component that gives this really consistent tone that to love to to lose and to hurt. And honestly, given my personal opinion of Kubo's writing talent, I do think that's mostly incidental BUT I don't think there isn't some really interesting theming to take away from all that.
I've prattled on before about the Sun imagery in Bleach and how it seems to align with a lot of classically archetypal sun and light symbolism, as well as a few of its own unique symbolic uses: the sun gives light and warmth, its an icon of enlightenment, its the center of the galaxy around which other celestial bodies orbit, it's thus a power of attraction and order, and it's the brightest star in the sky. All of these aspects are either embodied or directly contrasted with major villains like Aizen and YHWCH as well as in Ichigo himself, and to much lesser degrees his mother, Masaki, and Shiba Kaien.
Masaki's death motivates Ichigo.
Rukia and Ichigo have a specifically platonic relationship built on mutually changing each other's lives
All throughout the body of the actual story, Orihime's feelings for Ichigo are one sided.
Uryuu's obvious unspoken feelings toward Orihime are likewise.
Renji likewise and even more explicit.
Rukia's with Kaien doubly so, with the added drama of him already having a wife AND her having to put him down herself.
Tousen's unspoken one sided love for his unnamed dead friend.
In a way Komamura's kind of sadly underdeveloped feelings about the whole Tousen betrayal.
Hinamori's tragically misguided adoration of Aizen.
Hitsugaya's one-sided puppy love crush on Hinamori.
Rangiku and Gin's fascinating, somehow mutually one-sided(?) romance.
Sui-Feng's beautiful "why didn't you take me with you?" tragedy with Yoruichi.
Ulquiorra's fixation on Orihime.
Riruka's extremely straight forward weaponized toxic love.
Even Ginjo and Tsukishima's lightly touched upon history together suggests a mix of overzealous devotion and deliberate grooming.
Aizen's forced obedience and abuse of his power over the Arrancar as a false Sun icon, generally more abstract but most literally manifested in Loly's jealous fangirl shtick.
And YHWCH's sinister manipulative exploitation of his followers devotion as an extension of the Sun symbol being its own kind of love, in the rather on the nose christofaciat/cultist sense.
Heck even Bazz-B and Juugram's melodramatic but kind of inconsequential relationship fits this.
Kanae and Ryuuken too I guess, but that's such a nothing romance b-plot inside of a nothing flashback, inside of nothing training arc anyway...
Like, the primary defining feature of all those relationships is the ways they don't work. The moment you make any of them reciprocal they lose the only point of interest they have. And consequently the whole of Bleach is fueled by the attractive force of one sided, unresolved, and otherwise doomed relationships.
And like I said, I don't actually give Kubo credit for that, but I think it creates a very apparent trajectory of a boy(Ichigo) forever changed by the loss of a loved one, his mother, the center of his universe trying to find a power that will allow him to hold onto those closest to him so he won't ever feel that loss again. And the power he's given is Rukia's, a power not just to fight and protect, but a power to influence and inspire. It's the power that bleeds out into Orihime and Chad, and even Tatsuki and Keigo, and Karin. It's the power that attracts them to him, and holds them in orbit as he unknowingly becomes that missing Sun, the center of a new universe all his own. And that creation of a new system of the divine around his solar self is the ascension toward godhood, both in that pseudo spiritual symbolism sense as well as literally in the story(at least until it abruptly and without explanation/clarification just isn't).
Point being, Bleach's only sensible reciprocal ship that I see is that of Ichigo as an ascended god shining a universal light of love and protection on all living things and their returning love for their God experienced/achieved in the flickering moment of my own headcanon climax of the series right before his friends all yank him back off the god throne and some deus ex machina(Urahara) solves the cosmic puzzle for them. That and Ikkaku×Yumichika.

would u like to please explain why do u think silent oath is written for madara? ever since I saw ur post the song has an entire different meaning. I personally have a few guess but I'd love to hear what do u think :>
i dont think its canonically written for madara but in my madaleo hcs theyre semi unrequited . leo has a mad heavily romantic crush on madara but madara doesnt like him back in quite the same way, it falls more in a gray area between platonic and romantic for him. they both know about each others feelings and since madara doesnt like relationship labels and leo isnt really interested in officially dating madara anyways, they decided not to do anything about it . so now that theres no tension around the topic and leo being obvious about his crush on madara has no consequences, leo continues to pine and flirt with madara and write melodramatic songs (silent oath) about him without worrying about it negatively affecting their relationship in any way . and sometimes madara will indulge leo and flirt back, and theyll make jokes about it, but its all just for fun . and theyre happy this way
so silent oath is leo talking about madara, but the song wasnt written for madara , because he already knows about everything leo is saying in the song . instead of being a confession the song is more like leo walking on stage in front of a full audience, pointing at madara, and going "i need that man so bad" and madara yelling back "i know" from wherever hes sitting
it could also totally be full unrequited madaleo tho and thats awesome too but a little more of an angsty take on the situation

OLD BULLSHIT DUMP
its time to dump a bunch of stuff i have no other place for but i want online somewhere! its a total fucking shitshow wahoo
first is an alien nine fan comic (its read right to left if it wasnt obvious, oops). this was made as a for an alien nine discord i lurk in. they had missed yuris birthday, and some discussion was had about what present is best to get her. most of the options were aliens?? anyways take this as the anti-kasumi propaganda that it is.
next is two separate love web doodles. uh for anyone who doesnt know i have a half joke love web AU where cybermare and manon just fucking hate each other, and its just sad and awful for no good reason. im sorry shadok, i am physically unable to let blorbos be happy. second image is more of a doodle but i like it. and the first image i thiiiink was made when i was planning out a little one shot comic i never finished. for the 1 of you (oretal) who are maybe curious, i had a bunch of dialogue written out, the comic would have been a really tense conversion that culminates in a shouting match, i had this really cool idea where the comics color palette gets darker and darker as the sun goes down and their little apartment becomes so dark that its hard to see but neither of them want to bother turning on a light (many such cases). i care about these two way more than i probably should, uh thank you silly deer lady for the blorbos.
the next one is a drawing ruru chan (you saw the alien nine bit of this post, you know what kind of fucking blog this is) i keep forgetting i made forever ago. i ended up hating it and never finishing it. i still dont want to bother finishing it but i like it enough now to post it. shinsei kamattechan is one of my favorite bands and i really like this dumb melodramatic song a lot. noko is one of the realest ones going and i hope i can draw something i actually really like one of these days to express my love properly.
lastly i wanted to post this absolute dumb bullshit fuck ass stupid technique. i was commissioned by a friend to make some custom buckshot roulette cards (he is paying me in sandwiches), and i decided that i liked the idea enough to go whole hog at least a little bit. this is just showing the process for the rendering technique im using in krita. i will be posting the final images once theyre all done (my deadline is fucking thursday, pray for me girlie). this method of rendering is super janky but its fucking worked so far! to any aspiring item key artists, please just render shit in blender, save yourselves. looks kinda nice tho once its on a card.
thats it, please listen to "all my little words" by magnetic fields and "cant run away" by brave little abacus. GOODBYEEE ill post my drawmegle drawings next maybe?
#alien nine#doodle#buckshot roulette#shinsei kamattechan#loveweb#im so sorry shadok#if my AU bullshit makes you uncomfortable please LMK seriously i know making stuff like this for indie series is bigly weird sometimes#also listen to ajj

king is egotistical as hell right. its hard to say. he is, but im always thinking about things besides his ego. from the very first moments that i played we love katamari reroll, he felt so much more different from katamari damacy reroll. yes, they added a replay mechanic, and they incorporated it by king asking if you want to try again - but he asks. he asks if you want to go home now or if you want to try again. its something so miniscule but means alot to me. everything of his attitude changes in we love, like hes really thinking things over now (he himself says hes, well, busy thinking about the future.) and its very strange. in my head theres still a great disconnect between katamari damacy king, and we love katamari king. from the outfit to how he talks to what he tells the prince. egotistical sure. but why in we love is he suddenly "softer"? the game over screen is in no way less violent or hurtful in either game, but in katamari he outright disowns prince, or atleast refuses to acknowledge him any more. in we love he insists, he shouldve been better. he shouldve tried harder, shouldnt have been a let down. look what youve done to the fans (our admirers! our source of validation!). the whole thing about katamari in general is how hard it is to dance around that whole line of the games tone. you cant take any of the games completely seriously, but there is also merit in what happens and what king says, and it seriously kind of hurts my brain to think about it.
what im saying is- its hard for me to even take we love katamaris cutscenes seriously. with kings occasional fourth wall breaks, it makes me think he doesnt take it seriously either, which is extremely hard to process for me. when i got papas mask present, he hands it to me without another word, which seems to be clear he has unresolved feelings about him, but also, this is katamari damacy, so does it actually MATTER? in the game where king and queen met because they had a meet cute (bumped into eachother and fell in love)? a game depicting physical emotional abuse in what are honestly very melodramatic cutscenes, next to king popping and saying "he cant wait for the next episode"? you cant exactly say they wanted people to actually take them seriously- instead its more like a sort of story thats supposed to inspire emotion on purpose, with intent, in the sense that its MEANT to be cheesy and overly emotional. its fucked up when king cries and kneels to papa in a literal tone, but in the story its meant to be their honest reconciliation, given the cutscene right after is papa, king and queen reunited. SERIOUSLY it makes my brain hurt. i love stories but i know that to convert something like that into an actual deep narrative seems like it would betray author intent, and would also just make me feel in the wrong.
at the same time... if im going to make comics and writing, how the hell do i translate this? king is abusive. but its clearly a result of generational trauma, nevermind being in the royal family. he has no idea how to live like an adult because he was never taught that. what with his pondering in we love, it makes me think hes starting to regret some things, but its hard to tell whats going on in his head at any point. its no wonder hes so opaque, of course. not just his upbringing influences him, but the tone of the game, because theyre not going to have king ever be 100% honest about his deep feelings- itd betray the tone of the game in a way that feels silly. like, if he would break down talking about papa, itd probably happen in a way that you ALSO cant take it seriously. theres always some element of ridiculousness in anything katamari, right? alot of things i think about. of course, i can never see something like this and not start thinking about it deeply regardless. dont even get me started on my opinions about kings outfits and his style, which i consider way too important.
im excluding any game past we love btw. only katamari and we love were directed by keita, which makes them the only accurate representations of king, in my opinion. the "king beats the shit out of prince" game over from me & my katamari is also really fucked up, but ultimately worthless, because seriously, i doubt any of the games gets kings character right after we love- when they cant even get his style of clothing right.
#^nothing wrong with me#if i tag this with anything besides a personal tag ill get embarrased#the thinkerrr

i think im probably pretty mentally unwell. ive been pushing all this negativity down ever since transitioning cus "oh that was what was wrong with you! it has to be! no negative thoughts! only positivity! otherwise you'll have to confront the fact that you're irrepairably BROKEN and a fuckup!" all my friends think im really positive and nice. like im this, opposite, or foil, to them. cus theyre pretty depressed too i guess. but like.... it's essentially just a facade. and lately i don't know whats happened. it's not like there's been any sort of trigger for it. but i just feel it spilling out and the facade disappearing. i feel so fucking awful. im so dysphoric and envious and unhappy with my appearence and my personality and my voice and my life. to say otherwise would be a lie. but im not even fucking properly depressed. i can get out of this computer chair, take off this too loud music, and ill feel just sort of hollow. i don't want to cut my wrists or kill myself. cus that wont make me who i want to be. that's all i want. to be someone i want to be. and that person is just, unobtainable. forever out of reach. and so, there's no point falling into despair. so i just. i guess ill keep up my facade actually. it doesn't effect me. i'm okay with everything. i'm as chill as a cucumber. i enjoy hanging out with my friends so much. i love dressing up in girly clothes. i enjoy looking at myself in the mirror. when i get horny i think about myself doing things, not some imaginary woman. totally. im such a melodramatic piece of shit. im gonna wake up tomorrow and essentially forget i ever wrote these posts probably. i'm not depressed or suicidal im just dysphoric and envious and im just repeating myself and im just fucking going in circles i need to sleep now but im not tired yet. normally whenever i get like this it's like 4am and i realise i need to go to bed and fall asleep. but its only 11pm now. i still have hours of being awake left. fuck sake. i wanna talk to someone. but this is a lonely website.

hello adrienne xenosagaepisodeone. apropos of your recent mangaposting, i was wondering if you had any recs (manga or otherwise) for older man/younger woman romances where the woman is characterized as a fully realized adult human as opposed to a child/helpless waif/convenient band-aid for the man’s issues/etc.
Don't worry ℑ'𝔳𝔢 𝔤𝔬𝔱 𝔶𝔬𝔲
Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari <- pretty much Peak form of what youre looking for. the FL is super well rounded and interesting. It's also kind of refreshing to see a mid20s woman in manga that just has a kind of boring menial job instead of being an OL
Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi
Love, Hate, Love. <- tomoko yamashita banger
Dai-2 Dai-4 Kayoubi no Koi <- the premise is rather simple and truthfully, I dont find the ML to be very pretty, but the FL's personality really endears you to their dynamic
Reemployment Life With An Unsociable Untalkative Magician
Ojiichan Shinanai <- FL is kind of average personality-wise but! theyre cute. I love that josei is like 70% harlequin romance
Yakuza to Metsuki no Warui Onna Keiji no Hanashi <- it's not made apparent exactly how much older ML is than the FL, but it is vaguely implied that he is decently older than her?
Kemono Joushi ni Jitsu wa Mitomerareteita Hanashi <- ok so I'm generally assuming the ML is older because of. everything else being visually conveyed here.
Gomashio to Pudding <- This one is melodramatic as hell, but the main couple is fun
Sennetsu <- more of a drama than a romance. FL is 19 and a bit on the naive side- but its meaningful in the context of the character dynamic the story presents. conveys the experience of being attracted to a grimy dude for the first time. translation status is kind of up in the air
Elf Boyfriend & Boyish Girlfriend <- personally not for me, but I think Legolasheads would explode reading this

have you heard of rod mckuen. i think about him in relation to mcr often for some reason probably because the annoying melodrama of seasons in the sun reminds me of black parade. black box recorder cover of seasons in the sun>>>>>>>>. i also associate black box recorder with mcr because of aforementioned melodrama + song based storytelling + britpop
i know nothing about these guys!! i listened to the cover and it's sooo sentimental. like this section...
"we'll love again, we'll laugh again", "just like the leaves changing colorsss", "just you and i your starless eyes remain". but it feels like a different kind of sentimentality. my chem is so violent and pessimistic, even in "light behind your eyes" (the closest thematically to "seasons"). "ill fail and lose this fight" yeesh!! but i like mychem because theyre sardonic, self-conscious. esp bp. "your misery and hate will kill us all", "we're dead after all, through fortune and fame we fall". i talked about this before but mychem is also super insular, per its hyper emotionality. compare it to "cancer", the other very similar song. it's all about the speaker. dont look at me, prepare me for death, ill miss you. whereas i feel "seasons" is more empathetic. like the patient is nawt saying this
highlighting these difference is just an exercise in figuring out why i like mychem so much lol and why it works for me when other melodramatic work doesnt. i think mychem sometimes crosses into "too melo" post-bp. like "world is ugly", "light behind".. esp "sing". yeesh

Drop the review bestie
I’ve had the longest day of my life (one train two busses two taxis over 7 hours of travelling in total) so if this is disjointed please remember……….i am not Roger ebert I’m just saying shit
Spoilers for challengers below
🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾the movies are back and they’re about melodramatic biblical level threesomes framed by insane musical stings🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾
So I’m what you might call a Luca guadagnino Guy except I straight up didn’t give a fuck about call me by your name (two leads I would actively mow down in my car) but anyway he made this film and it felt like fully being given a swirly in the best way. They strapped a gopro to them tennis balls. That bone break was straight out of suspiria (speaking of, apparently not that many people fuck with his suspiria as i thought? and theyre all wrong LOL)
Anyway I’m taking such good care of my two little white boys WE NEED. To talk about Tashi Duncan. I was listening to the podcast keep it and one of the hosts Ira was like, oh I kind of wanted to see her become a little more unhinged but honestly I DISAGREE because the beauty of Tashi is her veneer of calm over the burn of her rage—you see the veneer crack when she slaps Patrick, when she spits at Patrick, when she yells that iconic COME ON!!!! I truly think she’s perfect and it made me realize that I always want to write women just as mean as her (Lacy Doevski at full power) but I’m afraid to a little bit! Tashi ‘you’d have a better shot with a handgun in your mouth’ Duncan, you are everything to me. Zendaya best actress.
The boys were good also but all I came out of that film thinking about was Tashi. My thoughts on their whole dynamic is much the same as everyone else’s—shit’s JUICY as FUCK thank god, but no one is a hero and no one is a villain here and if you’re looking at it through that lens you’re missing the point
I also love the fact that every single one of them are fucking losers in some way
The people yearn for EDM scores. Felt like I was on uppers during every part of the match
Anyway tennis is about sex and sex is about power and power is about tennis and if you’re going to see this film you need to watch it in a FUCKING THEATER, I’m so glad I waited. I bet the rewatchability factor on this goes crazy

quark watches star trek season 1 episode 13
theyre watching macbeth :)
some guy tom has a grudge against the actor playing macbeth?
theyre being sneaky to find him i guess
kirk thinks the guy (kodos) is dead
kodos did something fucked up apparently that kirk and tom witnessed
ok kodos murdered a ton of people on an earth colony and then died
yeah the actor is definitely kodos
kirk thinks kodos's 19 year old daughter is hot
um. its pretty weird that kodos played macbeth and his daughter played lady macbeth.
TOMS DEAD
kirk brought kodos's daughter aboard the enterprise?
"special performance for the crew in exchange for a lift" oooookay
mccoy: "i find jim generally knows what hes doing" no you dont??? you fight with him like every other episode????
"all this power, surging, throbbing, yet under control. are you like that, captain?" no
this show thinks kirk is good at flirting but hes such a dork. hes a pathetic loser man. he needs someone to slap him
ooooooh spocks catching on
apparently kodos did eugenics :|
hiiii uhuraaaaaa
uhura i love you i love your songs
oh shit another eye witness just died
honestly spock seems more genre-savvy than objectively logical. hes not scientific he just knows how star trek is written
kirk and spock and mccoy are extremely dating. mcspirk isnt a ship its a fact
explosive in kirks room 0_0
oh my god he just put it in the garbage chute. that was so stupidly unsafe kirk
hey how come we never saw the actors performance
"what were you 20 years ago?" "younger, captain. much younger" pretty poignant line
confrontation between kirk and kodos was rad
kodos's daughter is pissed
kirk says redemption is real but some harm is irreversible
heheheheheheh i love drama
oh cool were seeing the performance now?
soooooo cool to intercut a failed attempt at revenge murder with a performance of hamlet
.....ohhhhhhh kodos's daughter has been killing all the eyewitnesses thats an awesome twist
this girl is BONKERS
fitting for her to be playing ophelia
:O
kodos jumped in the way to block her shooting kirk hes dead oh my god
this is so melodramatic but i adore it
oh theyre gonna think this is part of the performance wont they
kirk still likes her. no clue why
ok that episode was great

I talk a lot about my headcanon that Maggie would wrestle with her identities post reveal, even in the BEST of circumstances, where Nova and her get along after the fact and everything is the best it can be given the situation
And something that I don't think I've said clearly is that, Maggie's a completely unreliable narrator when I write her perspective. Maggie feeling like she doesn't actually deserve the "grand luxury" of her original identity, yet still owning it cause she's long accepted she's a thief and thats what thieves do
"Evie Artino isn't Maggie" like. Factually untrue. Correct in her head tho.
If I ever wrote this, this kind of dilemma I love for Maggie but I still can't quite figure out what would lead to that being revealed to other characters. Those other characters being her family and friends that don't see a distinction between "Evie is Maggie" and "Maggie is Evie" I mean ofc there is a reveal in the form of a melodramatic shouting match which I have thought abt extensively, tho I think I can do better.
I'm leaning towards Maggie confessing this to Max when theyre alone and close. Both of them are tired and Max is asking her some questions and the topic inevitably comes back to her feelings about being Evie. And... It sort of slips out. Not the whole truth but just enough that Max knows she sees a difference between the "value" of her identities. "Evie identity" outweighing her "Magpie identity"
Both of them are tired so it's not like he fully recognizes the weight that this holds to her, nor give a response that is deeply impactful and dramatic about how "Maggie you should care about yourself more! You're still you! No matter your name!"
I think it would be more like
"I like you. Whatever your name.."
And that makes her feel a little bit warmer.
#with these dumps of brainrot i think i sometimes just shift into this odd kind of writing mode#just more dramatic ig haha#In a long fic to flesh this idea out I'd write it so that Maggie does resolve her turmoil with giving her names value and all#part of that would come fron therapy but y'know thats not always viable in the beginning#maggie white#evie artino#max everhart#trinket duo#renegades trilogy#renegades fandom#renegades brainrot#marissa meyer

i refuse to believe we're getting another adaption of the crow 😭 the 1994 one and the 1991 adam family movies were one of the first movies that i watched with my father so theyre very near and dear to me but ALSO the goth aesthetic is unmatched in 1994 like i believe in my hearts of hearts it cant be topped 😭😭😭
Hi anon! I assume you saw my Crow ask/answer come up and it made you feel things. 💕 Because I can't articulate it any better than I already have, I'm going to drop my initial reaction to the trailer below like I did in the other ask.
Context for passersby, I had this ask about Feyd and The Crow recently.
I completely get it nonnie! I really do. If you haven't watched the trailer I would recommend watching it. Here's why: they aren't making it goth. Eric looks nothing like he does in the comics so that gives me hope that this is truly an adaptation not a remake.
I love that you have a connection with your father with both of those movies! Films are so important to us and create amazing memories. I have no idea how the 2024 adaptation will be but I can think of a parallel. My mom and I watched Jane Eyre so much when I was younger that it became one of my favorite books of all time. I grew up with the 1983 version and have many fond memories of it. But now, all these many years later, the 2011 adaptation is my favorite. We don't always need a reboot or franchise but as long as there is literature we will, hopefully, have new and unique film adaptations.
On the left is the cover of the copy I have (not a first printing though), right is the 1989 first issue cover for those who don't know about the comic.
This was my initial reaction the day the trailer hit and I tried to describe how I felt to a friend:
I have very mixed feelings because I am a huge fan of the first movie. However, I'm trying to be open minded that this is based on the source material (not a remake of the movie) and we live in the year 2024 so the aesthetic is incredibly different. Plus, I will watch anything Bill Skarsgård does, at least once. I never thought I would agree with his casting for this. Here's the worst part: I want it to be bad so I can keep the first on a pedestal. Brandon Lee was the best part of that film and without him I don't think it would be the cult classic that it is. Perhaps Bill can carry the film if it is otherwise melodramatic and absurd (because, if we're honest, even the comic and first movie were quite over the top). I do prefer the 80s goth look for Eric Draven, but this could work. We'll find out this summer.

I am super late to the party let’s go‼️ (I was looking through the Majorwood tag and saw ur posts just now lmaoo)
Anyways anon is so right about “won’t say I’m in love” being Scott energy, but honestly they’re both super dramatic theatre bitches so it could go either way. It’s still both cute and very funny to think about Scott being soooo melodramatic over Martyn, babbling on and on about how he’s barely even gotten over Jimmy to Cleo Scar and Bdubs, and just sighing loudly like a completely head over heels teenager.
HE WOULDDDDD theyre BOTH dramatic gay theater bitches and i love them for it. noxcrew messages scott like "dude we need the mcc teams" and scott's like "oh it's awful, he'll never love me back!" and noxcrew is all just there like 😒🙄😐

logh leaning heavy on the melodramatics of space opera aside ur very right abt kinnaka and I always think about their brand of feminine interpersonal relationship when I remember one of logh’s earliest adaptions being a shoujo manga and it’s subsequent movie lol
omg yea they do lean on the melodramatics heavy.. it makes it a slog to recommend to people cuz after s1 that narrator wont stfu like stop with the demagogy in-universe historians/tanaka!! but thankfully, yang wenli exists, and hes at least like ‘idk about that narrator’ i like to think? passive lib-leftism meets revanchist demagogery. thank god for our good friend yang. but somehow multiple ppl ik r watching it cuz of my empty little blogging. 🤣 yo and the fact that the earliest lotgh adaptations was a shoujo manga and the mangaka who drew that also being most known for her role in drawing ai no kusabi (canon yaoi). good stuff man. & i know, they occupy suuuch a fascinating role in their interpersonal relationships! the fact that reinhard’s likened to the mythical druid brunhilde with the flagship name, and the fact that kircheis’s first name is the siegfried that died for brunhilde.. kircheis while living both the militaristic obligations with reinhard + this quasi feminized labor emotionally .. taking care of reinhard for annerose becomes taking care of reinhard bc he cares about him. him being the emotional loss in reinhard’s arc that motivates him to continue conquest isnt really ‘bury ur gay’ trope bc it perpetually darkens reinhard’s whole side of the conflict. like how the villain in most space shows has a dead wife that spurned him into darkness but this is lotgh so the villain in most stories is considered one ‘historical hero’. and the dead wife is his sic. how many times do we hear reinhard seeking to fulfill the ‘quench in his heart’ and failing to do so? bc nothing can replace kircheis to him. reinhard’s conclusion from kircheis’s death& its aftermath is that ‘kindness and good will is not enough for those i love [so i must conquer to fulfill our last promise]. and die. of special boy disease. reinhard keeps the locket of kircheis’s hair with annerose + kircheis bc they were all sisters. theres also this post about how kircheis’s dad grows flowers calls baldur’s orchids (fictional flower in lotgh verse) + theyre in the pov mental scene where annerose tries to imagine kircheis’s love and the imagination goes nowhere. theyre also in ep4 i think?. also not even 5 eps later from annerose’s mental scene that reinhard on his deathbed says ‘i return kircheis to you, sister’ nanna was baldur’s wife in the myths who sets herself aflame after losing baldur.. like. omg kircheis starts calling him lord reinhard so early on and thats their ‘private nobody’s around this is our best attempt at being equals’ name. theyre so insane.
#yn.#yn answers#matchaflavored#kinnaka#lotgh#shiku dont look major spaceboy spoilers#kinda major? idk. but#reinhard’s like kircheis we not like the other gay boys bro we fight and battle#and kircheis is like reinharto sama.#we can be^_^ and reinhard is like soo true king
