#fantasy high #riz gukgak #kristen applebees #gorgug thistlespring #adaine abernant #fabian seacaster #figueroth faeth #the bad kids #half tempted to say these names are forum handles they use so much it pretty much became their professional names lol #I keep them teenagers bc its funnier that way #no real lore I just like drawing this. but I do think abt how theyre all weirdos too also bc thats funny to me #riz is a huge conspiracyhead who does everything by hands. he has a casio fx-570 in mint condition. nobody knows how he's maintaining it #he is nonetheless Really Good at his job. which somewhat tracks bc it's a job that requires keeping up with interstation conflicts #and new policies and an obsessive amount of planning. but he is Too Good at it. and also he dresses like that #kristen has the atomic engine that theoretically lets her unmake and remake matters with her mind. but it consumes a huge amount #of energy so it's mostly useless. she's still a cult survivor also #gorgug lives his entire life on a ship with his parents who quit a cushy deal maintaining a space station bc he wouldn't be allowed on #the low gravity let him grow very tall but also his oxygen saturation is pretty bad so he's got breathing support #fig is a robot who just found out she's a robot like two months ago. she's been assuming everyone's a robot like her and she's been feeling #very betrayed by her mom lying about that part. she's on a body mod spree which is rough bc system-specific parts are expensive #and so is adapting random parts to her system #fabian's still a pirate captain's son. can't say anything that'd be able to get the vibes across clearer than that #adaine went to tech/business school. she put her monthly allowance towards an ecoterrorist group in her academy which turned out to be an o #and she's currently wanted by UTS. more than fabian. which makes him slightly mad #she's also acquired a passion for low-tech weaponry on the way. she likes ice picks and cleavers #I think up all of this for no reason except that once again the idea of all these people being 1/teens and 2/on the same ship to be posties #is hilarious to me. esp. if they were in a forum group chat beforehand

Honestly the blog being much quieter after the main round ended is sort of. more peaceful in a sense? like people are still regularly leaving (probably out of a feeling of "the big tournament isn't for another year why am I still following you" lol) but it doesn't really matter to me because the attention on me being lowered definitely relieves some of the stress. I just get to mess around and do whatever I want here now and the followers that stuck around don't seem to mind much lol

#and like yeah any level of ''slightly big internet person'' could tell you that losing followers isnt fun #but like this isn't my Job this is an impulse decision that got way out of hand lol #i cant be the center of attention All of the time bcuz 1 thats not how it works and 2 it would probably kill me ksjsksk #i dont mind things being calmer now. its nice

Recent-ish life pictures and etc.

#image commentary in tags once again since they don't allow captions anymore and I feel weird using the alt text for that --#1. bright very poofy cloud sky #2. saw these weird bugs on a sidewalk that were clustered in a pile and some of them were sitting butt to butt or something.. I wonder if #that's how they mate?? or maybe just some sortof strange bug fight or something.. interesting little creature party happening #out on the pavement on that day #3. Its kind of hard to see but on the inside of this watermelon there is a slightly lighter formation that sort of looks like a heart shape #4. special breakfast of scrambled eggs. soy sausages. and jarred artichoke heart. with some black coffee and whipped cream + a strawberry #5. ARBY.. fish ...traditional summer treat available only until like september maybe for like a month. but I love them because theyre cheap #lol.. the next closest/cheapest fried fish sort of option that is easily acessible to me is a more upscale fast food place where you can ge #three tiny little chunks of fish maybe the palm of your hand sized for about $17 lol... so 4 arby fried fish chunks for like $5 is good #6. & 7 - very cool sunset colored sort of pink/yellow/orange flower I found growing wild in someone's yard #8. got as a gift from someone who got it for christmas but didn't really want it and asked if I did since everyone knows Im like The Person #Who's Obsessed With Cats out of any group of people.. but I still havent done it lol.. it just sits there gathering dust until I have #the time on top of my 600 other projects. #there's a lot that I would choose multiple for #like there's no real preference for hard or soft cover books but if it's a large non-fic or picture book then I like it hard #if novel I prefer soft because it's harder to turn the pages at times #same goes for the bookshop library thing #though I've not checked out a book from the library in ages #only ever used the receipt as a bookmark... gives the book some history when I look at it again in the future #also had a thing where I hated damaging my books #like no breaking the spine or no slightly bending a page #got bit sad when I see my books bend open (or something) at some random page #but recently I buy second hand books to read and they're filled with bends and dog ears and little random notes #if I own the book I now bend open the pages and mark where I've been with a corner fold #I like looking at the past readers reading history and when I read my book again it'll show where I read up to and all that cool stuff #gives the books some personality and history #however I only do that with soft books #never doing that for a hard cover #am evil lol #maybe there is a preference to the hard and soft covers #lmaaaooo

#ffxiv #it's written in tokyo! we are talking about people who if they had a translation question could *walk down the hall and ask the writer*#it's not the english version's fault that you're a coward who's afraid of subtext and subtler characterization #even if it was intended as direct translation 99% of you lack the japanese fluency to appreciate any degree of nuance #and you frankly clearly can't appreciate nuance in english to begin with! so how could you know if it's conveyed correctly.#my favorite example is haurchefant. a lot of people complain about him being 'toned down' in english #which 1) he is. it's culturally necessary. if EN haurchefant talked about your sweat and offered you a 'warm bed' he'd be loathed #he'd come off as sexually aggressive towards women and as bad mlm rep. fans would DESPISE him.#different audiences have different values. he has to be written slightly differently to land in the same way he does in the original.#2) no he's really not. like sure the text of his lines gets toned down. but he's still absurdly into you. he's still a weirdo thrillseeker #there's still SHIRTLESS MEN WORKING OUT IN HIS OFFICE LOL #a lot of people complain that the english version is too aggressive or people are too mean and it's like...these are different contexts #like there's sooo many alisaie lines where people are like 'she's more of a cute tsundere in jp she's mean in english' and like.#alisaie is 100% an american tsundere in english. the localization team just knows how tsundere archetypes come off in english #which is to say straightforward tsundere shit tends to scan in english as either incredibly childish or cumbrained nonsense #and they have in turn written her with just a slightly lighter hand and more culturally intelligibly in english #she's a teenage girl who covers her sensitivity and inability to stop caring by putting on an abrasive front. that's a tsundere #alisaie is sort of an insane feat of localization. new levels of technology previously unheard of #'alisaie is like my badass wlw little sister' okay...yes. let's go with that. please ignore the ass shots in the trailers.#shitpost: i got a good feeling

Didn't think the 1989 version of The Woman In Black would be scarier than the one with Dan Radcliffe in it

I was Wrong flkjdsafkldsja, but I'm delighted to have been wrong. I had missed getting scared with more practical effects/careful timing of things in the background of shots appearing and disappearing, and this one scratches that itch well.

#text post #also fun seeing how differently they interpreted the characters and how they act #personally i'm realising that the Dan version was sort of. Americanised? Which is probably something I should have realised at first watch #but it only hits now when it's like. how to explain #the casts of both versions are both amazing let's preface with that #but. the Dan version felt very Cinematic. I got scared but was also very aware I was watching An Movie during it #(it got colour-graded quite blue which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it does register in my head as Peak Cinematic for the current time #the version of the characters in this 89 version feel slightly more real? accurate to the culture they come from?#like. there's an American Openness between the ones in the Dan version #they're too open to share and hand out compliments and comments like candy they have too much of #everyone is Nice in a way that feels mildly unrealistic #and when they are mad at each other there's tension but a tension #that to me at least you don't worry abt much bc it just feels almost Already Resolved #and it does sort of just drop off and wind up that way tbh #tho I admit it's been a bit since I read the original story so my apologies if I'm misremembering that it did the same in the book #but I could swear there was more that bit of tension there #anyway it isn't that the 89 characters are all mean but they feel Actually British for lack of better words #they have moments of kindness and do have a general sense of like. yeah they care for their community but also they're getting on w/themsel #and their business and not lingering on the interactions #They're kind but not nice and they just. get on with things which is very nice #and feels more in line with the time period to me/what I expect out of a story like this #anyway speaking of Dan found out the guy playing Arthur in this also played the dad in the gross wizard franchise #which wasn't something I expected to see lol #this is my long barely an essay no one asked for and your sign to go watch the 89 version asap #it's on YT for free which is where I'm watching it so genuinely if anyone want link. aaaaaaand it's starting. mom's bestie just texted me asking to come over this weekend cause it's Bad and it's probably the last chance to talk and maybe say goodbye to my mom's husband and i need to take care of her. god. i wont get through this weekend unless im high or drunk istg.

"i go to a juggling con every year. we camp in [infamous camping location in our country] for 3 or 4 days. one of the best in the whole world. you know, i went to one in new york, and it couldn't hold a candle to this one. the amount of people who could juggle with 7 balls was maybe, like, 5. and over here you practically enter a gym full of people who can do it" -my brother lamenting over how the war's effect on tourism hurt him personally

#imagine hearing this while slightly high. i nearly cried #my brother is such A Character. as soon as he mentioned going to a juggling con i told him that it's such an establishing sentence #same guy who has a whole closet dedicated to musical instruments from around the world #a unique card pack collection #my cousin asked him if he has some sleight of hand or fidget toys on him and he pulled one out of his pocket instantly -#- and said he wasn't even sure how it got there. he just carries stuff like this with him #(when i say fidget i don't mean the classic stuff. i just don't know a better word lol. i mean way louder and bigger toys)#this man recently turned 44 this man owns a start-up company this man is gonna become a father in a week or two.#truly. the most guy ever. at least in my family #(which is saying a lot bc my cousin is 23 and already owns a queer cinema line funded by the city hall)
