The funniest shit about asexuals is that all of us grew up consuming media that talks on and on about sexual attract and desire, with a pretty hypersexualized culture and people talk about it a fucking lot too. And what is that we all collectively think? "Yeah, that's clearly an exaggeration, nobody actually feels like that! The whole world it's pretending, that's the only possible explanation..." Like sure buddy, that's a very logical way of thinking, the entire world is acting, don't think too hard about it
#every asexual i came across had this particular way of thinking and I'm obsessed about it#glad to know I'm not the only one🥰#asexual#acespec#asexuality

I miss the pre-New 52 Tim and Jason dynamic so much. It was basically Jason beating the fuck out of Tim well being all "nothing personal kid I just hate everything about you, your existence and the fact you're breathing right now" and Tim spitting up blood going "what if your mother was a whore, kill yourself" and Jason just deciding right then and there that this kid is his favourite person. Then it just turned into a Tom and Jerry hunt across the city where Jason keeps hitting Tim with the "join me, be my robin" and Tim kicks him in the balls.
#tim drake#jason todd#red hood#red robin#batfam#Third Tim post in a row the favourite Robin race clearly has a winner#There’s one particular panel where Jason asks Tim to join him and just looks like the saddest wettest cat of a man when Tim says no#Then he immediately open fires at him and tries to put a bullet in his head#It’s genuinely incredible

rain world mods are amazing
#my posts#gameblogging#liveblogging rain world#ive been playing lots of region mods and a lot of them have custom creatures#and played around with all the ones i could in arena mode since theyre all so well made#but there's one in particular#it looks like a centipede and it uses the underhang green shock kinda thing#but the interesting thing is that for once it's a nice centipede#it doesn't hurt passive creatures#except for slugcats and scavs because they will attack /it/#but jetfish and firebugs and lantern mice can walk all over it and it doesnt care#apparently arena behaviours arent always the most accurate#but this is so interesting i love it#def my favourite modded creature

Shipping is fun and all but I swear every single time someone makes a comment, whether as a joke or in a legitimate analysis, about there being "no other explanation" for a pair's interactions, I lose just a bit more of my sanity
Like, no, you guys don't get it. Romance is not about the Amount of devotion, it's about the COLOR. the FLAVOR of it all. a character can be just as devoted to their platonic friend as they are to their romantic partner, and they don't love either of them more, just differently.
But because the majority of people still have it stuck in their minds that romance exists on the highest tier of love, I'm stuck seeing endless takes that boil down to "these two care about each other too much for it to NOT be romantic" as if that's the core determining factor to how literally any of this works
In conclusion: stop telling me that I don't understand the story if I don't interpret the leads as romantic, I am TIRED
#analysis#meta#miscellaneous#fandom#shipping#media discussion#amatonormativity#lgbtq#I feel like tagging any of the fandoms I was thinking of when writing this would be a little mean-spirited potentially#Disclaimer: no one has actually been telling me personally that I don't understand any story in particular#It's just that the way people tend to phrase their analyses feels unnecessarily targeted at the reader and that's just. not great#even if I agree with every other point they make

#Narcissus is an overlooked tragedy i think#in that its not usually considered one#but narcissus was born beautiful and wanted by everyone#and he spurned all advances#generally without particular cruelty--mostly it seems he ignored or recoiled from those chasing him. and for that he was cursed#to love what would not love him back#to be doomed as soon as he knew himself#in a mythos with ravaging heroes and grotesque monsters narcissus is punished for being beautiful and solitary#and the moment he catches sight of his reflection in still water he is lost--gazing at himself#that which would not love him back.#wasting away until nothing but a gold flower remained#and that's what this is about#finding a stranger in your reflection#the self that does not love you#a curse for someone who was solitary#narcissus i hope the water was fathomless#i hope you found something worthwhile in yourself.

I ❤️ self-loathing characters, characters who struggle with monstrosity (either fearing or embracing it), characters who are so lonely, who have a gaping hole in their chest, who bottle up & repress their feelings, who claw their way up & have ambitions, who fall down & lose everything, who search for identity & purpose yet can’t see themselves outside of what others want from or expect of them, who are hurt & hurt others, who long & grieve, who lie & pretend. characters who are messy & flawed & human
#edit: please don’t tag this with hp characters it makes me very uncomfortable. and if you really want to at least block me after#tropes#I’m just saying words but. Ugh#elli rambles#this isn’t about one character in particular#more like snippets of different characters#sokka tané priya malini azula sabran ty lee etc etc#niclays too. sadly#I hate him (lovingly)#or I love him (hatingly). I haven’t decided yet#alternatively: I ❤️ ampersands#breached containment (derogatory)#a

alright look, i just wanna know who is the writer that came up with the dumbass idea of replacing the line “Ever since I lost my son, I think of you as my own” with “Lu Ten would have been proud to have you as his father” in this scene for the Netflix live action series???
#atla#Avatar the Last Airbender#atlaedit#animationedit#Zuko#Uncle Iroh#*mine#GIVE ME THE NAME!!!!!#and it's funny how they chose to keep most of the lines almost verbatim in this scene but then replaced the MOST important line...#seriously who in their right f*cking mind thought that was the better line to say in this context HUH???#the way it was originally written was such an important highlight of this scene too!!#IT LITERALLY SUMS UP IROH AND ZUKO'S ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP IN ONE SENTENCE#like i know certain dialogues can't be translated well into live action and some changes are necessary#but there was absolutely NO reason to change this particular line whatsoever in this specific scene

Strange how people keep saying that "Shuro hates in Laios the same traits he supposedly loves in Falin", which is...
Seriously, look at him and his dialogue - does he hate Laios for being a monster freak? For being nerdy and weird and loving nature? For eating bugs? No, that's not it.
Shuro hates* Laios for being so profoundly socially inept (from his perspective).
The key difference between Touden siblings isn't that Falin is a pretty girl - the key difference is that Falin is caring and accommodating to other people, and Laios is awkward and unobservant, seemingly egotistic at the surface level.
(others have already written wonderful essays on why and how they grew up like that)
It has to be noted that Shuro is a sheltered noble from a land where proper etiquette is paramount - he is used to people being incredibly subtle AND incredibly observant around him. He comes from a high-context culture where everyone assumes things based on lots of social cues and shared understanding of context. That's not even a matter of being neurotypical, that's his culture (in addition to his personality and brain chemistry)
He is also rather introverted as person and doesn't have many friends. Even his attachments and emotions in childhood are expressed subtly, in a restrained and proper way. He is polite and refined, perfectly fitting into his house's expectations - even if that means repressing his childhood interests and little weird joys.
In that particular way, the opposite of Laios.
Shuro hates* Laios for being the opposite of the image HE was grown into. This strange man is so utterly insensitive and so open about it - he has no sense of shame (like Shuro), no tact and ability to shut up (like Shuro), no restraint (like Shuro). Look at him talking non-stop about things he wants to talk about and having fun (unlike Shuro) while completely overestepping Shuro's obvious boundaries!
The boundaries, I must say, that not only never before needed to be spelled out, but in Shuro's upbringing and culture would be as ridiculous to spell out as "I want to pee, so I'll go to the bathroom and remove my pants and sit on the toilet and release the sphincter holding my pee in my pee bladder"
Falin is not only awesome in his eyes for being weird and in touch with nature, but for being very delicate, observant and caring AT THE SAME TIME. She is a gem in Shuro's eyes, a miracle of his dreams.
In Falin, he not only sees a nerd-freak - he sees a hope for an introverted, polite, restrained person like himself to reconnect with that love for nature and nerdiness and freakiness.
Laios isn't like that. Laios is unobservant for subtle cues - and so a lot more loud, persistent, enthusiastic and unwittingly annoying. Yes, Falin has all that inside her too - but she restrains herself in order not to be a burden. And so does Shuro, in order to fit expectations. There's similarity between them in that regard, between two introverted and restrained weirdos. And a hope for a kindred, more open soul, from the more restrained Shuro's perspective.
* - I don't think Shuro's feelings to Laios are properly described as hate. Yeah, in his darkest moment he says that, but honestly it felt more like an accumulated stress from a continuous cultural and personal misunderstanding, rather than a profound personal hate.
...
What was the post about?.. Oh, yeah, Shuro loving Falin and disliking Laios. That's not him being too horny to think, that's him loving in Falin the defining difference between the two - they aren't gender-swapped clones, after all. Give my boy some respect and nuance.

I'm glad to see posts circulating listing some of the significant legislation Tim Walz has supported as governor of Minnesota, but there's one I haven't seen mentioned yet that I think is really important for young voters to know about--the North Star Promise program, aka the reason I can afford to finish my Bachelor's degree.
Some of you may remember me posting about my financial aid offer being a lot more generous this year. That because Minnesota just implemented a scholarship program that makes undergraduate college tuition free for students with family incomes of less than $80,000 attending state or tribal colleges. As in, if after other grants and scholarships have been applied, you still owe money for tuition, the state of Minnesota will pay the rest.
Obviously tuition isn't the only expense associated with being a college student--I still am taking out student loans to help cover things like rent and other cost of living expenses--but it is the biggest one. As a low-income, non-traditional student paying my own way through college (and with a disabled partner who cannot work), I was genuinely unsure if I was going to be able to finish my degree before the North Star Promise program was implemented, and it has freed me from so much stress and worry.
A lot of factors had to combine to make a program like this possible --activists had to push for it, Minnesota had to vote in a Democratic majority in the state legislature to pass it, and we had to have a governor willing to sign the program into law--but it is still significant it was something Walz was willing to put his name on. And I cannot fathom how many lives it would change if he was willing to push for something similar to this at the federal level. So, keeping in mind that we have to vote up and down the ballot as well as keep the pressure on our elected officials to support programs like this once folks are in office, let's make it happen.
#highly recommend people look into all the good things minnesota has done in the past legislative session honestly#but this is one in particular that has actively changed my life for the better so i figured it was worth saying a bit about
