not technically what this post was talking about, but a while ago i found a fic by eedsknees that pads this scene with one of MY favorite things: petrification angst!
and while id probably do it differently, its still really really good and it makes me super duper glad that someone else saw the potential :)

Okay but can we talk about Camila seeing the Grom memory.
#i would probably have luz deny the severity of it for a while longer#maybe have her explain that she talked/tricked her way out of it and deflect that because shes still here shes Clearly Perfectly Fine#too busy being in denial to be actually upset about it (so no tears)#so camila asks whats so significant about it (savvy enough to know its Not Good but not quite enough to know HOW Not Good it is)#and gus and amity are horrified and stunned trying to peel their eyes away from it long enough to explain#(hunter is too busy moping to notice for now and matt is just Way Out Of His Depth so he shrinks against the wall and waits for it to pass)#and once they explain and she Gets It camila would have a moment of shock and a small internal monolog about grief and priorities#but the train of thought is put on hold when amity sees luz preparing to tear the photo in half#so amity swoops in snatching the photo and holding it close to her chest while she reminds luz what that would do#luz mutters something about how no more photo = no more memory of it = no more reason for anyone to worry about it!#so camila gingerly takes the photo from amity and says “No. We're going to talk about this later.” in the most stern way she can manage#this all gets hunters attention and he looks around to see what theyre talking about before his eyes land on the photo in camilas hand#first hes confused but then hes as mortified as everyone else#so he meets luz's gaze but quickly huffs and looks away because Of Course she didnt tell anybody. Of Course she didnt tell him.#luz reads the room a bit and gives in to camila and asks if they can go back to looking for the teleportation glyph combo now#willow hesitates for a bit before camila pockets the photo#putting it Out Of Sight and thus Out Of Mind#so she takes a breath and reluctantly complies and we resume onscreen canon

NekuShiki question time! :)
Tell us about one of their vacations they went on together!
Any funny/silly headcanons you want to share?
Who would propose to the other and how?
Hey Anon, so let me start off with saying how completely honored I am to have someone interested in my headcanons. I was honestly so shocked and you literally made my day so thank you. Please see bottom for notes. Now to the ask,
Vacations
My idea for right after the first game, before A New Day and before NEO, is that the gang would all have a typical beach vacation. Some place local, since these kids are still teens, and they are all typically broke. Eri would be along for the ride too because Shiki wouldn’t travel without her best friend, and also because Eri would just invite herself. Even if Eri trusts and loves Rhyme, she definitely doesn’t trust the boys to be alone with her cute best friend on a weekend trip.
They take the train to the beach, and it’s time to get changed. Eri picked out a bathing suit for Shiki, that’s not exactly revealing but less conservative than Shiki would have liked.
“I can’t wear that! Is that the only one you brought me?” Shiki’s voice raised in a panic.
“Shiki, it’s really not that bad. It’s a tankini and it will look cute on you!”
Her insecurities were screaming at her. No way could she go out in public wearing that! The top is practically see through!
“Eri, this may look cute on other people, but not me. I-I can’t pull this look off, I’m not —”
“Are you girls okay in there?”
They both turned to the closed door. The changing room is open air, so even though Neku couldn’t see anything, he could hear everything.
“Shiki, I have an idea. Is there anyone else inside?”
“No, why?”
“Eri, come guard the door.”
“Neku, if you think I’m going to let you into the girls changing room —“
“I’ll keep my eyes closed, I just need to give Shiki something.”
“I could just —“
“Just come to the door, Eri. Shiki, put the swimsuit on, I’m not going to look.”
“But!”
“I’m tying something around my eyes, I’ll be quick.”
He heard some shuffling and the door opened. Eri guided Neku into the room, and once inside she shut the door. Shiki touched his elbow to let him know where she was, and he offered her the cloth he was holding.
“What are you?”
“Just turn around.”
She did as he asked, and he draped his short-sleeved cotton shirt over her shoulders, trying very hard not to touch her bare skin, even if he thought otherwise.
“My shirt’s long enough to cover pretty much all of you, and you can’t enjoy the beach if you’re feeling self conscious about your swimsuit. You’ll get there one day, even if that day may not be today.”
The UG gang knew how low Shiki’s self confidence was, and even though Eri was very attentive to Shiki’s needs, sometimes her methods of getting Shiki to own herself weren’t always the best. The seamstress was getting better every day, but when she is with her best friend, who looks great in a bikini, those feelings she once had still linger. Some things just take more time and Neku wanted Shiki to have fun today, without having to worry about what she looked like.
He couldn’t see the smile she was wearing, or the blush of her cheeks, but he heard her sigh of relief.
“Thanks Neku.” He stayed with her as she finished getting ready, which wasn’t very long, and sooner than later, Shiki took Neku’s hand to guide him back out of the room. When the coast was clear thanks to Eri’s watchful eye, the pair walked into the sunshine and only then could Neku see Shiki, who was in his shirt that was flowing around her loosely, buttoned only around her waist, her green two piece swimsuit still modestly visible.
Leave it to Shiki to find a way to make a simple shirt look fashionable.
And for Neku, who was a little awestruck, claiming the sun made his face flush, smirked to himself as Eri complimented Shiki on her new look. She looked perfect in his shirt.
Cute/Silly head cannons
Neku living with Shiki, and she’s so busy she doesn’t really cook for herself/eats unhealthy. He’s straight up appalled. So he teaches himself how to cook and essentially turns into a domestic househusband. Cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, feeding Mrs. Mew (her black cat that she adopted when Neku was in the UG) etc. When the kiddos (twisters) come over, Neku’s in the kitchen while Shiki entertains for a bit, brings them all tea wearing an adorable apron, and kisses her on the check before setting the serving plate down in the kitchen to come back and join everyone. I long for domestic fluff.
Proposal
I feel like Neku would totally try planning out this creative and artistic proposal, his kiddos would be dying to help him out. Shoka would go nuts making sure her mentor got the most gorgeous proposal setting, she would grumble as Fret tried to help out in an most exaggerated way, and Rindo would try to prevent Shoka from killing Fret who she finds is ruining his plan. Neku would just let them be as long and they weren’t doing anything dangerous, and he agreed that a girl who changed him for the better AND waited for his return after three years did deserve the best. When push comes to shove and it’s about to happen, the twisters and the original crew watching (and recording) them, Neku gets so nervous he ends up messing up, but Shiki totally understands what he’s saying and she pops the question. And it’s kind of like Amity and Luz from the Owl House.
Neku’s looking everywhere but at her, and Shiki can tell he’s so nervous that he’s starting to stutter. She finds it funny that this once emo teen turned into a suave young adult was now reduced to a bumbling mess. “What I’m trying to say is —”
“Will you marry me?” Shiki interjected, reading his mind. She’s so excited that she could burst.
He was relieved that it’s out in the open, but disappointed it was not he who popped the question he had prepared so long for. He’s pouting but also smiling as he whines, “Ah no, I was going to say it.”
Shiki giggles like a schoolkid as she waves her hand in the air to placate him, “okay, okay, go ahead.” In an attempt to take his pending question more seriously, Shiki bit her lips together, but couldn’t fight the corners of her mouth lifting upward in a goofy grin.
He bent his right knee onto the pavement, took her hands in his, looked her in the eye and breathed out, “Shiki Misaki, will you marry me?”
“Yes!”
He had 0.1 seconds to kiss her before he’s mauled to the ground by their friends. Eri and Shoka grabbed Shiki, screaming so loudly it drew the attention of commuters all around them. He has to calm them down so he can put the ring on his fiancee’s finger, a mere afterthought that after all the suffering everyone in the group has gone through, they all have something amazing to celebrate.
Note: I’m sorry this reply is so late, but I wanted to think about what to say and I ended up writing little ficlets for you, so I hope you can forgive me! And thank you again for prompting me, I find it hard to write sometimes and this really encouraged me to write more. If you, or anyone else likes these, please feel free to send me more prompts, I might even make a ficlet collection on Ao3 if anyone is interested!

Home CH1: Winners aren’t usually covered in dirt
Luz felt the magical energy zoom past her ear. If that had been a few inches closer to her face, she would have been done for. Her breath was getting heavy. How long had they been fighting? It felt like hours, but Luz knew it couldn't have been more than 15 minutes.
"Are you getting tired?" The Golden Guard asked. Luz noticed a little smirk appear on his face. She couldn't give in that easily.
"You wish!" She yelled as her staff glowed, and a fiery ball of magic made its way towards her opponent. Yet, he redirected it with a simple swish of his staff. Luz could feel herself getting tired and annoyed. She grumbled as she clumsily fired fireball after fireball, each one getting redirected or dodged.
"Oh, Come on, is that the best you got?" The boy twirled his staff as plants began to sprout around Luz's feat, holding her in place. She could feel the roots digging into her ankles as they crawled up her legs. She tried to pull away, but the magic was too strong.
"Oh, come on!" She complained as she stabbed her staff into the ground. It glowed red as icy spikes made their way towards the Golden Guard. He easily dodged the oncoming attack and rushed towards her. Before Luz could blink, he was standing in front of her, staff at her throat.
There was a quiet moment. The arena was silent as they both waited for the other to speak.
"Fine, I give in," Luz said as she gently pushed Hunter's staff away, "Just help me get these vines off."
Hunter smiled, reveling in his small victory, as he made the vines disappear with one swift motion of his staff. The moment Luz was untangled, she fell to the ground and let herself catch her breath. She felt the coarse dirt of the castle courtyard on her skin as well as the new aches and pains she got from that fight. She was going to be sore tomorrow.
"How do you not get tired?" Luz asked as she gasped for more air. She could barely get through a 15-minute fight, yet she knew Hunter had been in battles that lasted for hours.
"I don't know," Hunter said as he held out his hand for Luz, "You just kinda... get used to it."
Luz took his hand and pulled herself up. She brushed off the dust that accumulated on her light blue cloak and uniform. She honestly looked like a mess, with her sweaty hair, bruises, and dirt stains. Of course, Hunter looked nearly spotless, as he usually did after they sparred. If Luz was being honest, she was getting a bit tired of constantly losing to him.
"When did you learn that plant trick?" Luz asked as she went to grab her things. She had read about a spell like that but hadn't gotten around to learning it yet, and had assumed Hunter never bothered to learn it either.
Clearly, she was wrong.
"This morning, actually! That was my first time trying it out." Hunter said, a bit proud of himself, as he picked up a few of his books. They all looked new, and Luz had to wonder how often this man was hitting up the library. She would be lying if she said she didn't notice the constant bags under his eyes. He always seemed to be lacking sleep, grabbing quick naps whenever he could. Plus, he always seemed to be trying out new spells. Could all of this be because he was studying too much?
"So whatcha reading?" Luz asked as she grabbed one of the books from his hands. She glanced at the cover to see what he was reading, 'The Magic of the Savage Ages: A History of Wild Magic'
Before Luz could ask questions, Hunter had snatched the book out of her hands, "What the heck, Luz? Don't you know not to take things from people?"
Luz thought about questioning him. Hunter told her everything, so why was he being so secretive about this? Though judging by the way he was now clutching his books to his chest, she figured it best not to ask him about it.
Hunter cleared his throat as he gathered more of his things. He clearly wanted to change the subject, "Didn't Belos say he wanted to meet with you today?"
Luz's eyes lit up when he said this, "Yes! And I think it's good news about the portal!" She then took a pause, her face deep in thought, "And I told him I would meet him in fifteen minutes! I have to run!"
She then began to dash across the courtyard, still covered in dirt and sweat from training. She ran past guards who weren't that surprised to see Luz rushing past them. I mean, the girl wasn't known for being punctual. She could hear her black boots clicking on the castle floors as she weaved her way through the hallways. But just as she was about to turn a final corner, someone walked right into her.
They both hit the cold ground with a thud.
Luz looked over to see a familiar green-haired witch and realized the person she bumped into was none other than Amity Blight herself, "Heeeyy Amity," Luz said as she picked up the girl's things.
Blight's eyes looked over the messy girl holding her stack of books and papers with disgust. She carefully took her stuff from Luz's hand, extra careful not to touch the dirt, "Luz," She infused the name with annoyance.
You could say they had a bit of a rivalry.
"So, did you just have a class with Lilith?" Luz asked. She really didn't have time for this, and she knew it, but she didn't want to crash into Amity and runoff. That would be rude.
"Yes, it just finished, and did you just get done rolling around in the dirt?" She asked as she brushed some dirt off one of her books.
A flush of embarrassment went across Luz's face, "Well, me and the Golden Guard were actually sparing in the courtyard,"
" Did you lose?" Amity asked with an eyebrow raised. The worst part about it was the confidence in her voice. It's things like that that made Luz despise Amity.
"How do you know I lost?" Luz asked.
"Winners aren't typically covered in dirt and bruises," With that final statement, and a very dramatic flip of her hair, she walked off. She didn't even leave time for Luz to rebuttal.
No matter, Luz had places to be anyway. She decided that Amity was, somewhat, right; in the fact that Luz shouldn't walk up to Belos covered in dirt. She swirled her staff around, and magically an illusion spell covered her body. It adjusted her short curly hair, and it made her blue jumper look pristine and fresh.
She admired her handy work before she began to run towards Belos' chamber once again, and this time made it without a hitch. She braced herself before opening the doors.
They sounded heavy as they slowly creaked open. The Emperor's room always smelled like they were trying to hide the scent of decay. Which, to be fair, they were. But when you have a dead titans heart in your throne room, there's not much you can do about the smell.
"Hello, Luz," Belos' voice rang through the throne room, and its sound reminded Luz of someone talking in an empty cathedral, "I have some good news for you."
Luz gave a smile, "What is it?" She asked out of nicety, but she knew what he was going to say. She had heard someone from the emperor's coven discussing it in the hallways yesterday.
"We found the witch who stole the portal; now it's just a matter of obtaining it," He began to walk towards Luz and put a comforting hand on her shoulder, "After ten years, you can finally go back home."
Luz had to bite back a squeal as Belos told her the news. She could finally see her Mom, she could go to human school, and maybe she could finally see a giraffe! There were so many things rushing through her head, but she had to stay calm because Belos was no doubt about to send her on a mission to retrieve the portal. So she straightened herself up and was prepared to be sent on her first task. She waited for him to say the word, but then...
"I'm sending Lilith to retrieve the portal, so, hopefully, we will have it in a few day's time."
Luz had to make sure she heard him correctly. Why was he sending Lilith? She's been training for this her whole life for this moment, and, if she's being honest, she didn't think Lilith was the type to get her hands dirty on a task like this.
Before she could think about it, the words were shooting out of her mouth, "What do you mean you're sending Lilith?"
The words echoed in the quiet throne room. She covered her mouth, but it was too late. Belos turned his full attention towards her, his mask giving Luz a cold dead stare. Luz felt her shoulders tense as she realized she not only spoke out of turn but questioned his decisions as well.
But Belos didn't get mad like she thought he would. His voice turned strangely warm, and he placed his cold metallic hand on her cheek, "Oh Luz, I know you want to go out there and find this portal, but I have my reasons for sending Lilith on this mission. She needs to prove herself to me. And besides, you know that I am only doing what's best for you, right?"
"Yes, Belos," Luz said as he pulled his hand away.
"Then it's settled," Belos' voice evened out again, morphing right back into his stern and decisive tone, "I will call you back when we have more information, but until then you are dismissed."
He waved her away, and that was it. Luz walked out of the room and heard the heavy doors close behind her.
She didn't know why but she always felt empty when she talked to Belos about going back. There was this tugging on her heart she could never get to go away.
Only one thing sorta-cured this emptiness was reading about the human world. She couldn't count how many times she had snuck into the library as a child, staying up late to read just one more page about humans.
She made her way to the palace library, which took up almost the whole upper west wing. It was filled with dust-covered books, some she was convinced had never been read. It had towering shelves that smelled of worn leather and crisp pages.
As she made her way to the human section of the library she saw Hunter from the corner of her eye. He seemed to be buried in a book about wild magic, and she noticed he was mumbling something to himself. He was so focused on his reading that he didn't even see Luz.
Perfect.
Luz crept towards him, trying to keep as quiet as possible. She ducked behind a row of shelves that stood only a few feet away from him. She took a few moments before leaping out from behind the books, "Caught you red-handed!"
"Aggghhh!" Hunter yelled as he almost fell out of his seat. He took a moment to realize it was Luz, "Titan, Luz, you can't scare me like that."
"I can, and I did," Luz chuckled. She could see the title of the book he was reading now, 'The Full Effects of Wild Magic.' She looked at Hunter, who looked down at the book then back at her. There was a tight silence because they both knew the question that lingered in the air.
Luz finally broke the silence, "Why are you reading about wild magic?"
She and Hunter both heard the stories of wild magic gone wrong. She even heard rumors of witches who went crazy because of it. Plus, the practice was outdated anyway, and they had no use for it now. So you could say she found it a little suspicious that Hunter took such an... interest in it.
"I just," He paused and looked at Luz for a moment. He seemed to be debating whether he could trust her or not. He finally made a decision, " Belos doesn't want me too but I want to see if I can help him. Wild magic hurt him so maybe... it can cure him as well."
He looked to Luz hoping she would understand. She had to because if she didn't she might rat him out to Belos, and he wasn't looking forward to that conversation.
After a few seconds of silence, he seemed to regret his decision, "Please don't tell Belos; if he found out, he would get super mad."
"Hunter..." She looked dead into his eyes; her face was serious, "This. Sounds. So. Cool!"
She plopped herself down into the chair next to him, "I mean, I was worried you were becoming some anti-coven witch, but this sounds great! You have to let me help."
Hunter gave her a quizzical look, "You really want to help?"
"Yea," Luz said, picking up one of the books from the small pile next to him, " Why not? Belos has helped me for so long, I feel like I should pay him back. Ya know."
"I know what you mean," Hunter said as he returned to his book. Luz also decided she should crack open the book she was reading. They remained like that for a few minutes before Hunter suddenly looked up.
"Why were you in the library anyway?"
Luz thought for a moment and decided not to tell Hunter about why she came here. It was embarrassing to her because she felt a bit stupid finding comfort in a bunch of old books and scientific papers, "Oh no reason,"
"So I tell you everything, but you get to be all secretive?"
"Hunter, for once, you are correct," Luz chuckled before returning to her book. Hunter really didn't need to know why Luz came to the library because he would never understand. Also, it didn't matter why Luz came anyway; because that emptiness began to fade away as she and Hunter sat together in comfortable silence.

Internship Chapter 15: Day 10 - Amity
First Chapter Previous Chapter
______________________________________________________
When Amity met with Luz the day before, she told her all about the tour she went on of the jail. Luz was sad she didn’t get to go, but she had used their time apart wisely.
Luz had spent the time talking to some of her other friends from Hexside, a couple of whom were upperclassmen like Ed and Em. One of them, Viney, was in the beast keeping and the healing tracks. Right now, she was interning with the Beast Keeping Coven, but her beasts still lived at the school. She came by every morning and afternoon to take care of them.
Luz explained that she had thought of Viney immediately, but had a tough time tracking her down. She had to ask a teacher about her placement, then had gone to the coven only to find out Viney went back to the school, before finally locating her to talk. Luz asked her if she would meet with them to discuss the coven, and Viney said yes.
She agreed to meet Wednesday afternoon, which was today.
Amity had prepared a small list of questions to ask, pretty generic things about how the coven ran and what kinds of beasts were commonly raised. She had seen many beasts before, without every raising any herself. She thought they were cool, but she didn’t have a knack for the spells.
When she stowed her books in her locker after school, Amity made sure she had her list of questions before heading to the back exit. She had agreed to meet Luz behind the school, so they could walk to the beast keeping building together.
Due to the nature of beasts and the difficulty in containing them, the beasts were kept in a whole different building behind the school. Many lived there overnight as well, if the student didn’t have a proper space for them at home. This was especially needed for the larger creatures.
Luz was already waiting for Amity outside when she arrived. Amity apologized for making her wait, but always sweet Luz insisted she had just arrived.
“I’ve never been in the beast house.” Luz had a spring to each step as they walked towards the building.
Amity hadn’t expected that. “Aren’t you taking beast keeping classes?” She thought seeing the beasts would be part of the track.
“Yeah, but I don’t have a glyph for controlling beasts.” Luz spun around as she walked, holding up one finger towards Amity. “At least not yet.” She turned away to face forward, swinging her arms by her sides. “So my classes are all in the school.”
“Maybe you’ll learn one today.” Amity suggested with a smile.
Again Luz turned to her, brown eyes sparkling with excitement. “That would be amazing!” She fished her small notepad out of her pocket. “I’m beyond ready for a new spell.”
Luz looked so determined, so cute, for a moment Amity’s cheeks felt hot looking at her.
She snapped out of it when Luz asked if she was okay, shaking her head and insisting that yes, she was fine.
At that point they were almost to the beast keeping building, which was just past the grudgby ring. Luz pointed at it as soon as she saw it, walking faster to get there sooner. Her excitement was contagious, causing Amity to follow right along with her.
The beast keeping building was two stories tall and about the size of a barn. It was made of bricks and seemed to be reinforced with some kind of magic, though Amity couldn’t tell exactly what it did. It had two sets of doors both different sizes. The first was a witch sized door with a handle. The second was a large set of doors that went almost to the roof and were about 10 feet wide in total. These were likely for bringing beasts in and out of the building.
The two approached the witch sized door, with Luz pulling it open to enter. Amity followed closely behind and was immediately struck by the stench when she entered. The smell of beasts was overpowering, like a wall of stink. Luz seemed unbothered by it, her eyes gleaming as she looked around the inside.
Inside the building was mainly an open space with short walls that functioned as beast pens. A few students were inside, tending to their beasts.
Luz pointed out Viney, who was sitting in one of the middle pens with a griffin. Amity remembered seeing the griffin before, on Luz’s very first day at Hexside. Viney had been one of the witches to bring down the basilisk that day, after it sucked away the magic power of many students.
“Hey Viney!” Luz called out as they approached. The griffin turned its head to stare at them, which honestly was unsettling. Did it understand what they were saying? Amity had no idea.
“Hi Luz!” Viney stood from her stool to greet them. “You’re Amity, right?” She asked, green eyes shifting to Amity.
“Yes, it’s nice to meet you.” Amity replied, taking note of the fishhook earring and torn uniform. Her sleeves and pants, which Amity had expected to be two different colors, were all orange.
“Likewise.” Viney nodded, then turned back to Luz. “So, welcome to the beast house.” She gestured around the room, drawing the eyes of a couple other beast keeping students. “This is pretty much all there is to see.” She put one hand back on her griffin as she spoke, petting it gently.
“It’s so cool in here.” Luz put her hands against the edge of the pen, leaning over and slightly inside it. “Hi Puddles.” She reached in and pet the side of the griffin’s neck. It seemed to lean into her touch. “What other beasts do you raise?” Oh, that had been one of Amity’s questions.
“Let me show you.” Viney opened the small door to the pen, stepping out. She then walked to a nearby pen, signaling for Luz and Amity to follow. When Amity reached the pen, she looked inside. There were a few small furry creatures, with tiny paws and stubby tails, that were small enough that Viney was able to pick one up with one hand. A larger one was inside as well, asleep at the back wall of the pen. Luz gasped loudly when she saw them.
“These dog beasts are only a few weeks old.” Viney said as she carefully handled the small beast. It wiggled its little paws, head darting around to look at the people around it. When Luz started to reach towards it, Viney shook her head. “They’re teething.” She explained, moving to return the pup to the pen.
“Darn.” Luz pouted, then went back to looking in the pen. “But they’re so cute and tiny.” She cooed down at the beasts.
“When they’re grown, they’ll be trackers.” The beast dog tried to nip Viney’s fingers as she put it down, but she pulled her hand away before it could.
“Trackers?” Amity asked for clarification.
Viney brushed a few pieces of fur off her sleeves as she answered the question. “Things like tracking down lost items, locating witches, and helping the Emperor’s Coven. Beast dogs are great at that.”
“Ooh.” Luz was still enraptured with the creatures. “I love them.” She looked right at Amity when she declared this, causing Amity’s heart to skip a beat despite the word being said about the beasts and not her.
Amity cleared her throat to try and maintain composure. “What other jobs does the Beast Keeping Coven do?” She asked another question from her list.
“All sorts!” Viney responded enthusiastically. “Things like mail delivery and training beasts for combat are really common.”
“I can’t wait to try it. Someday, my new friends.” Luz finally stepped back from the pen, after waving goodbye to the beast dogs. The group started to move back towards the griffin, which had been watching them. Perhaps Amity imagined the gleam of jealousy in its eyes.
“What’ve you been doing at the internship?” Amity asked as they stopped next to it; she knew how Ed and Em’s were going, but was still curious about how other covens were handling it.
Viney smiled at the question, which was a sign that her experience was better than the twin’s so far. “We’ve been shadowing a mail witch.” She gestured to the griffin, which chirped once in a sort of response. “It’s been a lot of fun.”
“Did you show them Puddles’ healing trick?” Luz asked excitedly, though Amity didn’t know what she was talking about.
At this, Viney shook her head. “Principal Bump told me not to.” She reached over to pet Puddles, running her hand through its feathers.
“What, why not?” Luz crossed her arms, eyebrows furrowed together. One of the things Amity admired about her was how she worried about her friends, how she came to their defense.
“He never got approval for us multi track students.” Viney scoffed and frowned. “So I’m not supposed to tell anyone in the coven. He even changed my colors!” She lifted one arm, showing off the orange sleeve of her uniform.
Luz grimaced, an unusual look for her. “That’s awful.”
“It’s the way coven magic works.” Amity added, drawing both sets of eyes to her. “If she joins the Beast Keeping Coven, she’ll lose access to healing magic.”
“That’s true.” Viney sighed, leaning against the pen. “That’s why I’m not sure about joining. Healing magic is a part of me, just like beast keeping. I can’t imagine giving either up.” Behind her, Puddles cooed softly and nuzzled its beak into her arm. “And being covenless isn’t a viable option.”
A couple weeks before, before Eda was almost frozen into a statue, Amity knew that Luz would’ve immediately chimed in that being covenless was a great option. But now, after everything that happened, she wouldn’t say that.
“You’ll find a way.” Luz still managed to exceed Amity’s expectations as she moved to lean next to the upperclassman. “I know it.” She gently bumped Viney’s arm with her elbow.
Viney nodded, with a half smile. “Yeah, I’m sure I will.”
Over in the other pen, the sound of little barks could be heard. The beast dogs seemed to want something.
“Almost time for dinner.” Viney stood upright, brushing off the back of her pants. “Between you and me, they eat a lot.” She chuckled, likely in an attempt to bring the mood of the conversation up.
It worked; Luz laughed in response. “Can we watch them eat?” She asked, with her hands pressed together as if praying for a yes.
“Of course. I’ll be right back with their food.” Viney said, walking away to follow through on that. She came back a minute later with a couple large bowls in her hands, all full of a wet goo like substance. She took it over to the beast dog pen, with Amity and Luz following close behind.
When Viney leaned over to place the bowls inside she almost got nipped again, but was able to place them successfully. The small beasts rushed the bowls, climbing over each other for a chance to eat. Once they settled around them, there was a spot for each one.
Amity watched in wonder as she creatures ate through the provided food, not even noticing when Viney went to get another bowl for the fully grown dog beast. Next to her, Luz was doing the same. She started pointing at each dog beast and giving them names while they ate.
When the last bit of food was gone, the beasts abandoned the bowls. They gathered together in a pile, lying down for an after dinner nap.
“Time to get going?” Amity asked Luz, who seemed to be in pain trying to tear herself away from the dog beasts.
Luz thought about it for a moment, then nodded. “Yeah.” She turned to Viney. “We’re gonna head out, thank you sooo much for showing us around!”
“Thanks for visiting.” Viney replied amiably. She waved goodbye as they walked away, headed to the beast building exit.
When they got outside, Amity fully appreciated how nice fresh air truly was. It would take a long time to get the beast smell out of her memory.
“I need to learn that beast glyph.” Luz said as they walked away from the building, hitting the bottom of her right fist into her palm.
Amity didn’t feel quite so eager to dive right into beast keeping magic. Yes, the beast dogs had been cute, but controlling and training them was a whole different story.
For now, she was going to keep looking. There were plenty more covens still to visit.

Enchanting: Chapter 2: Fear and Guilt
A novelized version of Enchanting Grom Fright, told from Amity’s pov. A look into what was going through her mind in that episode, with snippets of happenings in-between scenes. Told in 4 parts (3 main chapters, plus the prologue), rated to be safe, and obviously Lumity.

Chapter 3
Woods outside Bonesbrough,
Late afternoon
“Remind us. How exactly do you know where Luz is living?”
“Long story, Em. Let’s just say I may have needed her and Eda’s help fixing a ...mistake I made.”
“Ooooooo! Little Miss Perfect needing help fixing a mistake? This has gotta be good.”
Amity was silent. If either of them were to find out about what she had done to Willow’s memories, they’d never let her hear the end of it. Luckily for her, they were coming up on the Owl House just then.
“So, this is where she’s staying.”
“I like it. Seems rather quaint.”
“Just stay here. I’m gonna go check to see if Luz is ready to start training.”
“HIYA, HOOT!”
“GAAAHHH!”
That’s right. Amity had forgotten about Eda’s ‘security system’. As well as the fact that it seemed to have NO sense of personal space.
“HERE TO SEE LUZ? SHE’S UPSTAIRS GETTING READY! I CAN TAKE YOU THERE, HOOT HOOT!”
“NO! Just tell her I’m here.” The last thing she needed right now was being covered in even more feathers than she had been in the last thirty seconds.
“ON IT, HOOT!”
While the bird-tube stretched its way to the second floor window, Amity headed straight inside. Upon heading upstairs, she heard what she recognized as Luz’s voice and opened the door it was coming from, assuming it must’ve been Luz’s room.
“Amity!”
“If that bird-tube ever talks to me again.... I'm going to destroy it.” It did not help that she was still trying to pick feathers out of her hair. “You ready to train?”
“What should I wear to Grom?” Amity then noticed the two ‘outfits’ Luz had picked out. “This one says, ‘witch with a dark side’. But this one says, ‘I'm an otter... with a dark side.’”
As much as Amity had grown to find Luz’s antics charming, she knew that now was not the right time.
“Luz, you need to take this seriously. If you can't defeat Grom, everyone on the island will have to live out their worst nightmare.”
“YOU WANNA HEAR MY WORST NIGHTMARE??” Well, she gave them fair warning.
What followed was a thrashing of pure feral rage as Amity laid into the annoyance of a house that was Hooty. It took Luz pulling them apart before she started to calm down.
“Okay, I think we should get on that training. Amity, let’s head outside. Hooty, I’ll have King bandage you up.”
“SHEESH!”
The two then went downstairs and noticed King sitting on the couch with some flash cards.
“King, I need you to take a look at Hooty. We had a little… incident.”
“Can’t you do it? I need to make sure my material for tonight is top notch.”
“I would, but something’s… come up. If you do it, I’ll make you that new scone recipe I found last week.”
“UGH… fine. But they had better be JUST for me! Last time I only got a few because you had Willow and Gus over.”
“I’ll make sure to mark them.”
With that, the demon reluctantly made his way upstairs to check on the bird tube. As the two made their way outside, Luz was greeted to the sight of Amity’s older siblings waiting.
“Ed? Em? What are you guys doing here?”
“They’re here to help train you.”
“We had originally planned to help Mittens here get ready” said Ed. “But she told us about your situation, so here we are!”
“That was SO sweet of you looking out for her like that.”
As much as Amity would love to have her siblings embarrass her around Luz, there was work that needed to get done.
“If we can focus, now. Grom will transform into your darkest fears. What are you afraid of, Luz?”
Amity noticed Luz hesitate to answer. So Ed spoke up.
“Wanna say our greatest fears? On three- one two... being alone forever!”
“Being stuck with you forever.”
Yeah. Of the twins, Amity definitely knew Ed to be the more clingy one.
“In preparation, I've made a list!”
Amity and the twins took a look at the list Luz handed her. The twins were quick to get started, and immediately started casting illusions. The first was a large version of Luz’s communication device with some guy on the display.
“Jerks online who wanna debate!”
Next was what looked like a cat with a human face. Wait, didn’t Amity read something somewhere about an entire dimension with those things?
“AAHH! No! Human souls trapped in cat bodies!”
Finally was a- ...carton of milk?
“NOOOO! I'm lactose intolerant!”
“Not enough.”
From some of the stories Amity had heard, many matches with Grom start out with small fears like this. But once Grom gets a hold of its victim, that’s when things really take a turn. This was not going to cut it.
“The reason I can't face Grom- it goes deeper than things that just gross me out. What's your real fear, Luz?”
Amity then saw Luz think for a few seconds, looking up at the house behind her.
“My real fear... is that Eda thinks I'm too fragile to do this! And if she's right, I'll never be a real witch!”
Alright. Fear of a mentor feeling less of their pupil. THIS was something they could work with. Ed and Em then combined their magic to make a large version of the Owl Lady herself.
“You're inadequate.”
They even managed to nail the voice. As much as they got on her nerves, Amity had to give them credit where credit was due.
The illusion then conjured up a high chair, which Luz was now sitting in, as well as a bib saying ‘weak baby’. Wow. This really did have an effect on Luz, didn’t it?
“Nooooo!”
It may be difficult for Luz, but Amity knew that this was their best chance of getting her ready for tonight.
“I get it. Ditch the yellow. *GASP*”
Oh great. How’s Eda gonna react to a giant version of herself messing with her pupil?
“Is that supposed to be me? Dang, I look great. *chuckle*”
Apparently with self-admiration. Wow. Amity WISHED she had that level of self-confidence.
“Wait a sec- you're training to be Grom queen!”
“So what if I am!”
“You think training will help against Grom? Luz, you always go overboard and I end up bailing you out. Now, what's the fun in watching a kid get eaten by a monster if it’s my kid?”
“Well, maybe you'll have fun watching me defeat Grom!”
As much as Amity was grateful to Luz for volunteering to take her place, she knew Eda had a point. Seeing it firsthand, Luz did have a habit of jumping in head-first without thinking things through.
However, as Amity saw how low the sun was getting, she knew that they maybe only had less than a couple of hours before Grom started and the rest of them had to get ready, themselves. What they had managed to get done would have to do.
“Luz, I don't think you're ready, but we're literally out of time.”
“I’ll take it. *GASP* I just realized the PERFECT outfit to go with tonight! I gotta get ready. See you in a few hours!”
Well, at least Luz hadn’t lost any of her enthusiasm.
“*SIGH* I swear, the stress that the kid’s putting me through is making me age even faster.” Eda then turns to Amity. “I hope you know what you’re doing.”
As Eda walked back into the house, Amity only had one response.
“Me too.”
---
Blight Manor,
30 minutes before Grom
Amity took one last look at herself before she and the twins left for the dance. She had decided to go with a dress that was, in her opinion at least, rather simple. After the day she had, the last thing she wanted was any attention on her.
As Amity was about to leave, she noticed the note on her desk. The one she had written that morning in hopes of asking Luz to be her date tonight. The thing that had started this whole mess. She wondered. Could this whole situation have been avoided if she had never written the note to begin with? Would she have not been as worried about going up against Grom if her mind hadn’t gone to the thought of what she would do if Luz turned her down? Would Luz have not had to worry about what was going to happen tonight if Amity hadn’t been so willing to let Luz fight her battles for her?
Whatever might have been, it was too late to do anything about it now. But there was one last question going through Amity’s mind. Would it still be too late for her to find out how she really feels? She then made the decision to bring the note with her just in case. Maybe if tonight went well enough and any worries about Luz not being able to handle Grom were for nothing, she could still work out how she really saw Luz.
Grabbing the note, she went downstairs where Ed and Em were waiting for her. Unsurprisingly, they had decided to color coordinate their outfits. Twins. Anyway, now that their sister was finally ready, the three of them headed out the door, ready for the night’s festivities. ...well, mostly ready.
As they walked, while Amity could hear her siblings discussing how they each planned to spend the evening with their respective dates, her mind was elsewhere. All she was hoping was that tonight wouldn’t turn out to be a total disaster. Not just for her, but for Luz as well. This was going to be the human’s first dance in the Boiling Isles, and it was going to be spent fighting a monster that feeds off of your worst fears. Maybe she should talk to Luz beforehand, just to make sure that she really was ready.
---
Hexside gymnasium,
Grom
It was still relatively early in the night, but seemed as if this year’s Grom was already in full swing. Amity could already see some couples on the dance floor, while others went to get their Grom pictures taken by the photographer. While Ed and Em waited for their dates on the dance floor, Amity decided to go looking for Luz, but was soon approached by Principal Bump.
“Ah, Miss Blight. Glad you could make it.”
Amity still didn’t know how he could remain so positive knowing that there was a chance Grom could escape that night.
“I must admit, I was skeptical when Luz first came to my office saying that she wanted to volunteer to take your place. But as soon as she mentioned that you would be training her personally, I knew that she was in good hands.”
Great. As if the pressure Amity was feeling that night wasn’t high enough.
“Anyway, hope you enjoy your night!”
Alright. Amity REALLY needed to find Luz. She looked all around the gym, but the human was nowhere in sight. However, she did see Willow making corsages for some of the couples. She supposed that it wouldn’t hurt to ask if she knew where Luz might be. Plus if she was being honest, it would be nice to talk a bit with her old friend, even if they were both still getting used to the idea of possibly becoming friends again after all these years.
“Hey, Willow. Having fun?”
“Amity. Hi. Yeah, things are going well so far.”
“Great. ...”
“...”
“That’s a nice dress you have.”
“Thanks! My dads actually helped pick it out. I like yours, too.”
“Thanks. ...So, have you by chance seen Luz? I need to check with her on something.”
“Oh yeah. She told Gus and I about volunteering to take your spot. I think I saw her a few minutes ago in the hallway.”
“Thanks.”
As Amity was about to head for the hall, she stopped for a moment.
“Hey, I know it’s only been a few days since we’ve started to make some progress. But… can I get your opinion on something?”
“Uh… sure. What’s on your mind?”
“...Do you think it was wrong of me to let Luz take my place? I mean, I’m very grateful to her for wanting to help me out. But at the same time, I’m feeling kind of bad the reason she’ll be facing Grom is because I was too afraid. Should I have done more to dissuade her from doing it?”
There was silence for a moment. Amity waited for Willow to start chewing her out for putting Luz in potential danger. But to her surprise, Willow simply placed a hand on her shoulder and spoke calmly.
“Look. I get any worries you might have right now. But I think you and I both know that once Luz sets her mind on something, there’s not a whole lot to convince her otherwise. I mean, it was because of her persistence that we’re starting to repair our bond, right?”
“...yeah, that is true.”
“Also, from what I’ve seen, even when things have gotten bad for Luz, she’s always been full of surprises. I take it you’ve seen it as well. Plus, if things do get out of hand, Principal Bump asked Eda to chaperone tonight. I seriously doubt she’d let anything serious happen to Luz in her watch.”
That’s right. Amity had forgotten that Eda was there tonight. If those claims about her being the most powerful witch in the Boiling Isles were to be believed, maybe there was less to worry about after all.
“But hey. I think it’s still really sweet that you’re this worried about Luz. It really says a lot about how far you two have come. Although, maybe try not to show it as much around her. If she sees that you’re worried about something, then SHE might start to get worried. And I don’t think any of us want that.”
“Yeah, good point.”
Just then, the lights in the gym started dimming, and they could hear Gus’ voice over the mic on stage.
“Ladies, gentlemen, and assorted demons! It's almost time for our main Grom event. Please, please, take a seat, and be aware that the first three rows are designated splash zones.”
Amity knew that it wouldn’t be much longer before the battle. She had to talk to Luz while she had the chance.
“Hey, I gotta go find Luz. Thanks for the talk Willow. It really helped.”
“No problem. Also, if you need any other advice regarding Luz, just let me know.”
“What?”
“Oh, nothing!”
As Amity started to walk towards the hall, she wondered. Was there a chance that Willow knew? Could her recent behavior around Luz really be that obvious?
Once she made it to the hallway, she looked at the note she brought with. Part of her started to wonder if it would even be fair to ask Luz at this point. Willow was right about not wanting to make Luz worry. Would asking her now just put more in her mind for Grom to use against her? Just then, Amity heard footsteps and put the note away. She looked up and saw Luz standing in front of her.
“I'm not sure if it's nerves or if I accidentally drank some milk, but something's making my stomach squirm.”
“You look nice. Strange, but... nice.”
It was true. While the combination of the outfit wasn’t your… typical choice for an event like this, there was something rather charming in how unique it was. Amity thought, in a way, it was the perfect outfit for Luz to wear tonight.
“And, thank you, Luz. Honestly, I'm kind of amazed with how fearless you are. You've done things I could never do.”
“Hah, yeah, right! You goin' soft on me, Blight?”
“*chuckle* In your dreams.”
While Amity couldn’t quite explain it, being there at that moment, having this little talk with Luz, it all just felt… right.
“Now, introducing our Grom queen. You know her, you love her, you've... at least heard of her. Luz, the Human!”
Well, this was it. The moment of truth. Time to find out whether or not Luz was really ready.
“Wish me luck!”
As Amity watched Luz walk out into the gym, she couldn’t shake that feeling of guilt that had been with her that night. So much so, she could only get out one word.
“Luck.”
She really hoped that this wasn’t a mistake.
It must’ve been right around then that Gus pushed the button on stage. Amity could hear the arena opening up and saw the weapon racks rise up beside Luz. She decided to find a spot on the bleachers that was out of the way enough that she wouldn’t be noticed, but still close enough that she could easily make out Luz’s progress.
As Amity watched Luz go down into the area, weapon and glyphs in hand, she noticed Grom starting to take the form of those weird cats that were on Luz’s list. Luz seemed to be handling the situation pretty well so far. But Amity knew that this was just the beginning. The level of fear would only increase from here.
Minutes went by, and Luz still seemed to be going strong. Amity heard commentary being done by Gus and Principal Bump, as well as… some words being said by King. But she wasn’t really focusing on what they were saying. Right now, all of her attention was on Luz and Grom.
Amity then saw Grom start to transform into what looked like some sort of monstrous version of Eda. Wow. If this was supposed to be its interpretation of Luz’s worries about Eda not having confidence in her, maybe this really was Luz’s greatest fear. Hopefully that training they did earlier will pay off here and they can finally move on with-
Just then, Grom reached out to Luz’s head and… Wait. Something’s not right. It’s transforming again. This time into… a door? Amity sees the door start to open and… Hold on a second. Who is that?

Internship Chapter 23: Day 20 - Amity
First Chapter Previous Chapter
________________________________________________________
After the eventful day at the construction coven, Amity made plans to come visit Luz at the Owl House on Saturday. Luz had somehow convinced Eda to show them some magic, since she had been on the potions track at Hexside. According to Luz, she loved to show off and had been eager to accept.
This led to Amity walking on a cloudy Saturday morning to the Owl House. She was very interested in learning about potions, but not so excited about seeing the house demon that possessed the building. Almost everything about it was obnoxious.
But even as it called out a cheery “Hooty hoot!” greeting, Amity didn’t regret coming.
The demon let her inside when she said she was there to see Luz, which was lucky because she already felt like punching it. The inside of the house looked the same as she remembered it, with candles lining the room and familiar furniture.
One big difference though was the presence of Lilith. She was sitting on the couch, looking over some kind of magazine. She had a new grey streak in her hair; Luz told Amity it was an effect of the spell she cast to save Eda. Amity hadn’t spoken to her in some time, perhaps since the Covention? Lilith used to train her, but they weren’t particularly close.
That didn’t stop this from being awkward.
Lilith glanced up at the sound of the door opening, a flicker of surprise appearing briefly on her face. “Hello, Amity.” She greeted her politely.
“Hi.” Amity wasn’t sure what to say to her. She knew she was living here now, but even before when they had the Emperor’s Coven in common they hadn’t had much to say to each other. “It’s good to see you.” Was what she settled on, wincing internally at how stiff that sounded.
Luckily, Luz always had great timing.
“Hey Amity!” She poked her head in from the other room, which Amity thought was the kitchen. “We’re in here.” Luz waved her over, blissfully saving her from having to talk more with Lilith.
“Thanks for inviting me.” Amity said as she walked to join Luz.
Luz flopped her hand in an exaggerated dismissive motion. “Anytime.”
When Amity entered the kitchen, she glanced around. It looked like a pretty normal kitchen, nothing too outrageous. Eda was already there, leaning on one of the counters. King sat on the countertop next to her, chewing on a small object.
“Oh good, the whole party’s here now.” Eda said in a dry tone. She was so different from her sister; it was always confusing to Amity that they could be related.
Luz gave an enthusiastic thumb up. “That’s right! Are you ready to show us how to make a potion?”
“You were serious about that?” Eda grimaced, crossing her arms. “Wouldn’t you rather learn about bad girl coven magic?” She raised her eyebrows suggestively.
“What’s that?” Amity asked; she had never heard of the bad girl coven. It sounded fake.
Eda pointed one thumb at her own chest. “Only the best coven on the Boiling Isles, founded by yours truly.” Oh, so just covenless witches then.
“No thanks.” Luz cut her off flatly. “But we really want to learn about the Potions Coven!”
“I could show them instead.” A familiar voice came from behind the group, echoing from the doorway. Amity turned to see Lilith there, a smirk on her face. “I was in the potions track too, you know.”
“No no, I’ve got this.” Eda scoffed, moving to grab a pot for the potion.
Lilith chuckled, still looking smug. “If you say so. I’ll be in the other room if you need me.” She waved over her shoulder, then vanished back to the main room of the house.
Eda sneered after her, before continuing to prepare. “What kind of potion do you want?” She asked, looking between Luz and Amity. “A love potion?” Her eyes twinkled mischievously, with a smirk appearing not dissimilar from her sister’s.
Amity thought her heart could stop at that suggestion. Her face immediately warmed, even more so when Eda raised an eyebrow at her.
“Hmm, that would be hard to test.” Luz seemed unbothered by the suggestion, and didn’t seem to have noticed Amity’s flustered state.
Eda rolled her eyes. “Fine, fine, how about item duplication then?”
“Perfect!” Luz’s eyes lit up as she nodded. Amity tried to calm herself back down and to keep Luz from noticing.
With the potion choice settled, Eda picked a pot to make it in. “Always choose the right pot for the potion.” She said as she settled on a medium size one. She finally seemed to be taking this whole giving instruction thing seriously. “Too small and it’ll overflow, too big and the ingredients won’t blend properly.”
“Oh yeah, I learned about that in class.” Luz commented, moving to look into the empty pot.
“The pot material can be important too, but not for every potion.” Eda went to the pantry and started to take out ingredients. “The one we’re making today is tame, but some will eat straight through unprotected metal.” That was kind of a scary prospect.
Eda walked away from the pantry with an arm full of vials, stopping in front of the counter. “King, you gotta move.” She gestured at him with her free hand.
“But I’m sitting here.” He took the small object out of his mouth to protest. Now Amity could see that it was a small yellow duck.
Eda glared down at him. “I need the space, so get lost.”
King stood up on his tiny back paws slowly, putting the duck back in his mouth. He squeaked grumpily as he jumped off the counter, headed to the main room of the house.
Eda was now able to put down the vials, which she did with gusto. “Always measure the ingredients carefully.” She said, as if she hadn’t paused in the instructions, while picking up a vial to add it to the pot. “Don’t add heat until you’re supposed to, that’s how things explode.” She winked at the end, drawing a laugh from Luz.
“Are you not using a recipe?” Amity asked as Eda added another ingredient to the pot.
“Got this one memorized.” Eda replied, not looking away from her potion. “When you make it enough times, it becomes habit.” If it were Amity, she would probably still have the recipe out for reference.
“Do you know what they do at the Potions Coven?” Luz asked, causing Eda to pause mid pour.
“Not a thing.” She admitted, before continuing to dump an ingredient in. She grimaced, as if the next words were hard to say. “Lily might be able to tell you more about that.”
“Oh?” Again, from the door, Lilith’s voice rang out. “What was that Edalyn, I didn’t hear you.”
“Just ask her.” Eda addressed the kids. She turned on the burner on the stove and put her pot onto it. “I’ll just keep making this potion, abandoned, alone.”
Lilith entered the room fully, coming to stand near them. “You asked about the Potion Coven?” She asked Luz, likely wanting to make sure she heard right.
“That’s right!” Luz responded.
“We’ve been learning about different covens.” Amity explained, drawing Lilith’s gaze to her sharply. She could feel the question, what happened to the Emperor’s Coven, in those eyes. But Lilith didn’t ask it.
“The potions coven provides facilities and licenses to coven members.” Lilith said, shifting her gaze over to Luz. “They also get discounts on materials.”
“Does the coven itself sell potions?” Luz looked thoughtful as she asked.
Lilith shook her head, “No, individual members are responsible for that.”
Luz hit the bottom of one fist into her hand. “So Eda has a similar job then, she sells her own potions too!” Amity hadn’t thought about it like that; she always associated Eda with being as far from coven life as she could. Even Eda looked surprised at the assertion.
“I suppose so.” Lilith seemed to be rolling the idea around in her mind. “She does sell potions, though not as high quality as the coven requires.”
“Well excuse me for not meeting your nonsense standards.” Eda scowled down at her potion, motioning to again shoo Lilith away with one hand. Her sister didn’t move.
Eda had been adding more ingredients through the conversation, occasionally stirring the pot. “The potion is almost done.” She declared, lifting one hand over it. “Here’s the most important step.” She drew a small spell circle over it, slowly. It looked painful for her to do. Luz had also told Amity that most of Eda’s magic was gone, but it still felt strange to see it herself. “Without the spell it’s just slime.”
She picked up an empty bottle, dipping it into the potion. When it made contact, it duplicated. Eda brought both the original and copy out to show Luz and Amity.
“You need to make sure to use a duplication proof bottle for this type of spell.” Eda put aside the original and set the new bottle where she could fill it. “Like something that’s already a duplication. It only works on inanimate objects.” She then lifted the pot and tilted the potion into it, filling the bottle to the top. She then put a cork in the top and smacked a label on it, marking it with her brand. She held it out to Luz, who accepted it.
“The second part of the job, the harder part in my opinion, is actually selling the things.” Eda continued speaking, picking up where Lilith had left off in talking about the job of potion making. “Not gonna lie, Luz has gotten pretty good at it.” Amity was impressed by that.
“Oh, yeah!” Luz grinned, setting the potion down on the table. “I sell potions for Eda all the time.”
“In the market?” Amity asked.
“Yeah, and I go door to door.” Luz looked up like she was remembering something. “It’s fun, trying to figure out what’s the best potion for a customer.”
It made sense that Luz would be good at that; if she could hold a conversation with Amity then she could talk with just about anybody. Amity, on the other hand would be better at making potions than selling them. The idea struck her that if she and Luz went into business together, they’d probably be very good at the job if they split up the work.
Amity couldn’t imagine dedicating her whole life to it, but it was an interesting path.
“You don’t need the coven though.” Eda put one hand on her hip. “It’s all cons and no pros.”
“I disagree.” Lilith cut back in to the conversation. “The coven provides stability and resources. Also being covenless is illegal, which I’m sure you know well, Edalyn.”
“Aren’t you covenless now too, Lily?”
“Touché.” Lilith muttered and looked down towards the ground. Amity felt out of place, like she was watching something she shouldn’t see. She was reminded of when her siblings fought.
Eda was smirking as she turned back to Luz. “You can keep that.” She gestured at the potion on the table, turning the topic back to potion making.
“Thanks Eda!” Luz picked it back up, scrutinizing it once again. “What should we duplicate first?” She turned to Amity with the question.
The answer came easily. “Azura books.”
“Yes.” Luz replied simply, eyes bright with excitement. “I have mine upstairs, let’s do it.”
Amity followed after her, but not before thanking Eda for showing them how the make the potion. She replied that it was no problem, and she should follow Luz before the girl duplicated everything upstairs.
Both Lillith and Eda watched her go.
Upstairs, Amity and Luz chose the first Azura book as their target. The potion did indeed duplicate it, just as expected.
