this isn’t exactly a question, but has twisted wonderland ever expanded on gender norms before? I know in sunset savanna women seem to be highly respected, but it seems like that is a behavior unique to sunset savanna. It seems like gender discrimination might be uncommon in briar valley because Mallenoa was so respected by her subjects, but Sebek, silver, and grim were surprised to find out she was so self sufficient and powerful when they met her in Lilia’s dream (this is more my interpretation tho) . in the endless night event, silver tells a story about a warrior who taught for her country, which is a reference to mulan i think, and the person he is telling the story to is very surprised that the strong warrior is a girl. I think silver told that story to Leona but I don’t remember. I’ve heard that royal sword academy is a school boys and girls can both attend, but night raven college is one of the most prestigious magic schools out there, so it being boys only makes me wonder if gender is a part of magic politics, although we have been shown female characters who have high educations and magical abilities such as Mrs . Rosehearts

No, not really? It’s explicitly mentioned and touched upon in extended conversations maybe a total of… 3ish times. Of those instances, most are referring to the Sunset Savanna.

Gender norms and politics are some of those elements of world-building that can come off as really ham-fisted and preachy if the characters stop everything altogether and just start expositing about it. Thankfully, TWST largely doesn’t take that “telling” route and instead “shows” us what they mean through subtle implications.

Now, for the most part I think the gender norms of Twisted Wonderland are similar to the real world, but may be more progressive overall.

For one, Twisted Wonderland has many male characters (both in NRC and beyond it) who openly wear cosmetics. No one ever comments on men wearing makeup or dressing up in a negative light. Sometimes they complain about putting makeup on (ie the effort) or certain fashions they don’t vibe with but never do they say it’s “not manly” for them to put on makeup/perfume/jewelry, care about their clothing, etc. Even the characters we traditionally think of as masculine (Jack, Leona, etc.) wear eyeliner and eyeshadow, jewelry, or try new styles of clothing. Floyd and Ace express interest in fashion. Jamil cares about the quality of textiles and Kalim is willing to buy tons of jewelry for himself (and his classmates!!) if the mood strikes him. Rook regularly compliments people’s looks and Cater has an eye for aesthetics too. Lilia brags that he is “cute” and likes to show off his cuteness to others. And, of course, we cannot forget our queen Vil, who champions the idea of challenging and redefining gender norms. He also shares these ideals with Epel, who has been called out by Vil for having “outdated” gender norms. Given that Vil is such a popular celebrity (5 million followers on Magicam), I get the impression that the sentiments he extols is a popular way of thinking and is the direction that TWST society wants to move toward. (This is assuming that his fans are mainly younger people.) The boys often “dress up” and wear different makeup when visiting new places such as Silk City and and Clock Town, so it appears that a lot of Twisted Wonderland society that we’ve explored leans more liberal when to comes to gender expression.

Another detail I think is important is that many of the Great Seven—in fact, over half of them—are women. This is notable because oftentimes history glosses over the achievements and accomplishments of women in favor of their male peers. The fact that NRC and all of Twisted Wonderland seems to honor them in addition to their male counterparts says something. The G7 women aren’t even the only instance of female figures who shaped history. Azul and Floyd, for example, have brought up the Mermaid Princess on multiple occasions, talking about how her union with a human prince and personal efforts have strengthened the bond between land and sea.

Gendered terms to refer to mages exist, but according to Lilia, “witches” and “wizards” are outdated (they were used during the human/fae war era of ~400 years ago). Currently, most prefer to use the gender neutral terms “mage” or sometimes “sorcerer”.

There does not appear to be gender restrictions in terms of the modern day workforce either. We know of the boys’ family members who are great mages or hold significant power or status. Mrs. Rosehearts is an accomplished medical mage, Mrs. Ashengrotto runs the most popular restaurant in the Coral Sea and his grandmother is a benefactor to those in the neighborhood, Mrs. Shroud is STYX’s Chief Engineer, Meleanor is an integral leader of Briarland’s military forces, Maleficia is queen, etc. Even the women in more mundane roles play vital parts in their communities: Mrs. Clover is a baker alongside her husband, Mrs. Zigvolt assists her husband in his dental clinic, Granny Bucchi supports him as his only relative, Marja travels and helps sell her family’s produce, etc. There are many economic opportunities for women in this world.

Some may point out that NRC is a prestigious all-boys school, so there aren’t opportunities for women in education. The same goes for RSA, which is another prestigious all/ boys school. To that, I say… that’s because NRC is a very limited scope of magic education as a whole. We don’t know how many other schools are out there or if all magic schools are boys only. It’s not impossible to think that there may be girls only or mixed schools out there—but the NRC cast are the ones this game focuses on, so we view things from that perspective. I’d also like to add that we only see male students from other schools because of meta reasons: 1) there are limited game assets, so some details are inaccurately conveyed by the live 2D models, and 2) this is a joseimuke, a game with a predominantly male cast aimed at a target audience of women. It makes sense that there wouldn’t be many live 2D assets for random female mobs.

There isn’t any lore in-game or in other official materials which would imply that women are discriminated against in education or in the workforce. However, Twisted Wonderland at large seems to still perpetuate gender expectations and gendered traits as we understand them irl. There are some instances when the idea of women having traditionally feminine interests are mentioned: (Suitor Suit) Ace complains that his ex only liked romance and animal movies, disliked thrill rides, and preferred cute things and taking Magicam pics; (Birthday Boy) Cater also mentions his mother and older sisters having interests in making sweets and cute things. Additionally, as Anon mentions, in Endless Halloween Night, Silver shares the story of Mulan, who pretended to be a man to save her father from enlisting in the army. He told this tale to Jamil (not Leona!), who reacts with surprise when he learns that this capable warrior is a woman. At the same time, there are “masculine” expectations vaguely alluded to: Deuce states he is the “man” of his household, Epel of course worries about his manliness and sees Savanaclaw, the athletic dorm, as “cool”, etc.

Of course, these gender norms are not pervasive nor are they the same everywhere in Twisted Wonderland. One extreme is demonstrated through Epel, who holds the most regressive beliefs prior to Vil’s influence. This leads me to believe that Harveston is one of these areas that perpetuates these beliefs—and when you think about its population, it makes sense. Epel tells us that his hometown is largely elderly people, who are more likely to hold conservative worldviews compared to young people. The community, being small and located pretty far from nearby urban centers, is also exposed to fewer ideas that differ from what they perceive as their “norm”. These factors will naturally shape its residents and inform how they interact with and perceive others.

I actually think that Briar Valley would also be one of those areas with regressive gender norms for similar in-universe reasons as Harveston. Briar Valley is described to us as a region mainly populated by long-lived fae… meaning they are pretty old and more likely to be conservative. Not only that, but the area is very isolated and fae in general prefer to keep to their own kind. Briar Valley is also said to be opposed to change and new ideas and technology being introduced to their land. All of these factors suggest they would have more old-fashioned ideas about gender, not progressive ones. Meleanor and Maleficia may be widely respected and viewed as capable women, but I do not think it is fair to extrapolate how magically gifted monarchs of the Draconia bloodline are viewed to the governed population. It is more likely that they are the exception, not the rule. This better explains why Sebek and Silver, who are technically subjects of Briar Valley, are surprised to learn of a powerful princess. Their shock, as well as how Lilia describes human princesses as being meek and needing protection, also implies the usual gender norms. Given that humans seem to be the majority race in Twisted Wonderland, it means those gender expectations were predominant at the time.

The Sunset Savanna is the only country we know of at the moment where women are noted to be viewed differently. According to Leona, he “respects women” since the women back in his home country are physically stronger and stronger-willed than men. (This may be a reference to how irl lionesses do most of the hunting.) It’s not uncommon to see women in high-ranking warrior or guard positions because of this. This implies that the gender roles are somewhat reversed here; women are the ones expected to be strong, not men.

Slight tangent here: I don’t particularly subscribe to the idea that “strong” women are somehow better or more deserving of praise than “weak” women. It’s a fallacy that I see perpetuated way too often in media. True feminism does not mean demonizing what is seen as traditionally “feminine”, nor does it mean women can only be independent or strong by acting in traditionally “masculine” ways. Feminism means not judging or holding back women from pursuing whatever it is they want to do, be it a career of their own, homemaking, or anything in between. Women can be strong and admirable no matter what they choose to do with their lives.

Okay, so Twisted Wonderland does operate on gender norms—but that does NOT inherently mean that Twisted Wonderland is a sexist hellscape. Gender discrimination is on a spectrum, and we’ve yet to see any blatantly regressive demands be taken as anything of real merit in TWST. If anything, they get clowned on and told off as much as Sebek is for his anti-human sentiments. And, as I’ve pointed out earlier, Twisted Wonderland on the whole appears to accept and normalizes things that may not be widely accepted irl— namely, men in makeup or in traditionally feminine fashion. There’s also many examples we can look to of regular women in power or jobs across the world of Twisted Wonderland.

We also need to remember that TWST was penned by people who also live in a society of gender norms, so it’s expected for their lived experiences to also bleed into the worlds they create. It doesn’t make them bad people, it just makes them human. They write what they know and also play around with the ideas of different societies—those that skew in both directions (as we see with Harveston vs Sunset Savanna).

It all happens so fast.

One moment, they’re all fighting Malleus side by side, pushing back the overblotted fae with the might of their combined forces. The three of them — Sebek, Silver, and Lilia himself — take the lead, standing on the frontlines, weapons and magic in hands. Everybody else, all their other peers they’d met throughout dream-hopping, stick to the backlines, providing support from afar.

And for that short while, it feels like they’re finally winning. It’s evident in all the little details; for all of Malleus’ might and power, there is a hint of desperation flickering across his face. His lips curl downwards, the green glow of his eye flaring a little brighter. His stance shifts, and the draconic phantom behind him moves too, adopting a defensive position. Dripping, scaley limbs curl around Malleus’ floating form, tails and wings forming a shield around him in a bid to protect him.

They’ve pushed Malleus up against a wall. They finally have a chance!

The next moment, however…

Everything goes miserably, horribly wrong.

A flash of light conjures in Malleus’ ink-stained palm — magic, streaked with oozing blot and simmering with a corrupt power unlike anything else. With the flick of a wrist, it hurtles towards them, towards him — towards Lilia, who, in that moment, freezes in place, limbs locking up. His mind screeches at him, what are you doing, you need to move, and with what little time he has, he readies a defence spell—

Only for a heavy weight to barrel into him, shoving him against the hard stone floor, a sharp pain flaring within his body.

And, pushing himself up from the ground, arms shaking as he twists his body around, Lilia can only stare in utter horror as Silver takes the brunt of the hit meant for him. Silver, whom Lilia knows is exhausted and worn down from an eternity of navigating dreams, his unique magic leading the way for them all. Silver, who insisted on fighting by his side despite Lilia’s insistence that he stick to the back.

Silver, who is thrown backwards, body collapsing against the stone floor in a steaming heap of smoking magic, clothes shredded and seared, sanguine stains splattering his pallid skin and pale hair.

His chest heaves, gulping down one last shuddering breath.

Silver stills, and does not move again.

And Lilia’s world collapses.

“SILVER!” he screams, a piercing shriek unlike anything that has ever emerged from his lips before. The sharp sound erupts through the air, slicing through the frenetic chaos of battle. In a flash, Lilia’s on his feet, surging forward, his heart pounding against his ribs like fists banging against the bars of a cell. Dread pulsates through him, clawing through his veins before clutching his soul in a vice grip.

Dropping to his knees, Lilia sweeps his son into his arms. His trembling fingers brush away loose strands of bloodstained hair, a single word spilling from his lips over and over. “No, no, nonononono—” He curls over Silver, his son, hands shaking him over and over, wrapped around his limp limbs. “Silver,” Lilia whispers, utterly broken. “Silver, please—”

The dreams that Malleus has spun for them, every minute detail painstakingly crafted and controlled by him, are a tricky, complicated mess. The rules of such fantasies are unknown to them. And yet, there is one rule that they have all stuck to upon ‘waking up’ and remembering the situation they’re in: they cannot die here. They cannot die in these dreams.

To die in these dreams would be catastrophic.

To die in these dreams would risk dying in real life.

Lilia trembles, fingers curling around the curve of Silver’s jaw, unable to tear his gaze away from his son. It feels as though he is suspended within a bubble with just the two of them; the chaos and carnage wrecking havoc around them have dulled to white noise, and Lilia can see flashes out of the corner of his eyes.

There is a faint shout — “STAY AWAY FROM THEM!” — accompanied shortly after by a cry of pain and the sound of a body slamming against a hard surface. Footsteps click closer, heard in a resounding clarity. Slowly, ever so slowly, Lilia raises his head. Twisting around, he narrows his eyes at the familiar figure standing behind him, a mocking smile painted across those void-touched lips.

“What a pity,” Malleus murmurs, voice like a rumble of thunder. He leans over, one arm reaching for Silver, only for Lilia to hiss, curling over his son — dead and lying in his arms — and swatting the man’s blot-dripping fingers away.

Malleus recoils, a brief flash of anger crossing his face. “How cruel of you. I care for Silver a great deal too, as you already know.”

“And yet you killed him,” Lilia spits, shaking under the weight of his anger, which flares within him and scorches his veins. With quivering hands, he moves Silver back to the floor with the tenderest of care — the last gesture of gentle mercy he shall show for a long while. And then Lilia rises to his feet, steeling his grief-stricken nerves as he turns to face Malleus properly.

The fae only arches an eyebrow, more annoyed than truly mad. “It cannot possibly be my fault that he chose to take a hit intended for you.” A nail scrapes against the underside of his chin. “Still,” Malleus muses, a sly smile slipping onto his lips, “it was a worthy sacrifice, do you not agree?”

With a screech, Lilia summons his axe and slams it into the ground, burying the sharp end of the metallic-green cleaver into the ground. “Don’t you dare speak of sacrifices,” he hisses, every word like a venomous poison, face contorted into pure fury. “You know nothing of what it means to sacrifice, Malleus. Nothing!”

“So you would rather render his sacrifice into a worthless, futile thing by continuing to stand against me?” Arms outstretched, Malleus cackles, a deranged smile splitting his lips. “Do you not understand, Lilia? It is pointless to stand against me.”

“Maybe it is,” Lilia retorts, yanking his cleaver out of the ground. “But do you truly expect me to stand down?” He feels tears pricking along his eyes, tears he chokes down in trade of some righteous rage. “You killed him, Malleus. He’s gone because of you.”

Here, in this realm of dreams, Lilia can at least use what Malleus had oh-so generously gifted him: his power, his strength, the vigour he’d had at the height of his former glory. And with his weapon clutched firmly in his grasp, Lilia lets out a blood curdling screech—

And dives back into the thick of war.

Silver startles awake.

He inhales, exhales, his chest rising and falling. There is something soft he is resting upon, a soft surface that tickles the back of his neck, the bare bits of skin exposed from the protective cloth of his dorm uniform. He can feel something cool and leathery wrapped in his hand, and as his gaze flicks to the side, Silver’s heart clenches at the sight of his father, a peaceful expression upon his slumbering face, gloved hand wrapped in Silver’s own.

For a moment, Silver allows himself to stare. To drink in every detail of Lilia’s peaceful expression, mouth parting slightly as he lets out a small sigh. His father rests on a bed of moss and flowers, a surface Silver realises extends to him and Sebek as well, the younger boy slumbering by Lilia’s other side. It is a kind anomaly amidst the cold stone of the thorn-filled lounge, something Silver realises could have only been magic-made.

It’s strange, Silver thinks. When he racks his brain, tries to think back to what he was dreaming of before he woke up, he comes up empty. It’s always been that way; he’s never been able to recall much of his dreams, save for hazy flickers that he grasps frantically onto, but can’t quite decipher.

What little threads of memories Silver can recall don’t make sense. He remembers encroaching darkness, exploring the valley, his father but younger, long hair swaying behind him.

Silver squeezes his eyes shut. His head is beginning to throb with pain.

The sound of humming fills the air, accompanied by the clack-clack of heels upon stone ground. Blinking his eyes open, Silver cranes his head to the best of his ability, limbs weighed down by an exhaustion he doesn’t understand. A shadow falls over him.

“Silver,” Malleus greets, the corners of his eyes creasing as he smiles down at him. His horns glow faintly with chartreuse hues, flames flickering from one slitted eye. Blot wafts around him lazily, dripping from his eyes, his arms, his claw-tipped fingers. “You have awoken.”

“L…Lord Malleus,” Silver chokes out, the words like sticky honey against his heavy tongue. Malleus merely hums his melody again, a song so familiar it makes his heart ache. The fae leans down, dipping onto his knees, and Silver can only shudder as one blot-covered nail comes to scrape against his cheek in a mockery of affection. “W-What…?”

“How fitting it is,” Malleus comments, nail tracing Silver’s jawline, from the dip below his ear to the tip of his chin, “that you wore yourself out by sacrificing yourself for Lilia.” Closing his eyes, Malleus’ lips thin. “Really, why is it that you all believe you will die permanently if you are to perish within my dreams? What a foolish notion. I only wish to give everyone the happiness they so dream of.”

He sacrificed himself for Lilia? Silver can hear his heartbeat quivering in his ears — ba-bump, ba-bump, ba-bump. Somehow… somehow, that feels right, even if he tries to scrape through his memories and comes up short.

The nail against his face pauses, before it pulls away. “How curious,” Malleus murmurs, a contemplative look in his eyes. He taps a finger against his chin. “The look on your face… Do you not recall what has occurred, Silver?”

“I—” Silver swallows, throat going dry. He knows… a little. He can infer enough to come to a conclusion, based on what he knows and remembers — that Malleus had sunk them all into a world of blissful, neverending dreams, and that somehow, they’d taken a stand against him. He tries to push himself up, only to fail. Silver curses his mysterious exhaustion. “I know enough,” he eventually says shortly.

“Do you?” Malleus gazes at him in a way that makes him feel small and insignificant. For a moment, Silver is five again, staring up at the tall prince as he visits him and his papa at their little cabin home together, gazing down at him, an inscrutable expression on his cold face.

There is a sigh, before Silver feels himself being shifted. His eyes widen, but there is little he can do as he is torn away from his father’s sleeping grip, their hands breaking apart as he is brought to rest on Malleus’ lap in a mockery of what he has done many times before.

Silver stares up at the fae. He is loath to call him his liege because the man above him is Malleus, but not the Malleus Silver knows.

Malleus stares back, lips breaking into an amused smile.

“Do you know the extent of how hard they are fighting, Silver?” he asks, voice low. “Even now, they still keep at their worthless battle, refusing to relent.” A sigh. “Do they not understand? It is pointless to resist.” For a moment, those eyes grow vacant, distant. “I only want what is best for everyone, Silver,” Malleus murmurs. “And yet, they all refuse to concede.” He shakes his head. “What an utter pity.”

“You want to lock us all within our dreams,” Silver says, hating the way his voice is weak. He swallows the lump in his throat, letting out a cough. “Why would we… not resist?”

“It is for all your sakes.” Malleus’ voice carries an edge of finality.

“Says who?”

A pause.

Rather than reply, Malleus simply hums again, displeased expression smoothening out into one that Silver cannot parse. One arm reaches past his shoulder, down his body, to the belts latched around his waist. Clawed fingers pluck the handle of his magestone baton, pulling it from its sheath.

And when Malleus turns it over in his hands, holding it above Silver’s face—

His blood turns to ice.

Blot. His magestone is clotted with it. Gone is the pristine, emerald surface of the gem, replaced instead by a dull grey, murky threads of ink swirling about inside it. Silver’s mouth parts, a gasp escaping his lips, eyes widening in his utter shock. “H-How?” he whispers, voice shaking. “I— That’s not possible!”

“Is it not, now?” Malleus replies easily. “You appear to be unaware of how much magic you exerted within everybody’s dreams. Or is your memory so bad that you do not even realise the potential of your own unique magic?”

His unique magic? He has one?

With his other hand, Malleus reaches for the gem, dragging one nail against the clouded surface, scraping against the hard stone, thoroughly coated with blot. “I wonder,” Malleus muses, lips curling into an amused smile, “how much more blot it would take to push you over the edge.

“After all,” he croons, pressing the cold surface of the gem against Silver’s cheek, causing the boy to shiver violently—

The TWST Boys' Favourite Clothes

What is their favourite item in their wardrobe like? (Includes all the students, minus the Ramshackle duo)

Heartslabyul

Riddle: A wool sweater. It's a deep red, almost maroon, with a cable-knit pattern. Riddle often feels cold, so the sweater has also become incredibly soft with wear.

Ace: A band tee from a concert he saw with his brother and a few of their friends. It's technically not even his shirt, it's his brother's (but Ace has had it for so long that it's basically his now).

Deuce: A baby blue short sleeve button-up shirt. It was one of the first things he got after he chose to change his behaviour, and he went shopping for a few "smart" clothes with his mum. ♡

Trey: A snapback hat with a floral pattern on the front section. It has a flat bill, and there are little purple, red, and yellow flowers over the fabric. But what really drew Trey to this hat (other than the fact that ooh, it's a hat!!) were the little clovers sprinkled throughout the fabric pattern.

Cater: A cream turtleneck that he bought himself. It's suuuuuuuuper soft, and fits him just right. Cater takes it with him absolutely everywhere he goes.

Savanaclaw

Leona: A purple and yellow silk shawl. It's soft, not too hot, and not too cool. Plus, wearing it makes him feel more regal - and powerful - than any other item possibly could.

Ruggie: A jean jacket made entirely of pockets from old jeans. His granny sewed it for him a few years back, and now Ruggie uses it almost every day.

Jack: His sweatpants. They're comfortable to wear, he can use them for working out, sleeping, lounging, literally whatever, and they're warm enough to wear just as-is outside during the winter months.

Octavinelle

Azul: Although he would hate to admit it, his navy blue hoodie. It's warm, and it's dark, and wearing it just makes him feel safe.

Jade: His hiking boots. He hates clothes and finds them uncomfortable and unnecessary, but his boots are practical. He loves how much grip they have, and the amount of cushion in the soles. He's been in a lot less pain since he started wearing them on hikes, instead of other shoes.

Floyd: Surprisingly for the biggest shoe-lover on the list, his collection of socks! Floyd LOVES being able to choose from so many different styles and designs, and to mix-and-match as he pleases. His favourite pair changes often, but he almost always likes his pink music note socks and his eel socks.

Scarabia

Kalim: His natural (undyed) linen pyjamas. Sure, they are nowhere near as fancy as most of his other garments, or as nicely tailored. But they're comfy, and breathable, and just feel so nice to wear.

Jamil: Interestingly, the hoodie from his school uniform. The design is cool, and it is something that's distinctly his. While his other clothes are familiar and well-fitted, this hoodie provides a different sort of security and joy.

Pomefiore

Vil: A high neck black tank top. Vil enjoys the simplicity of the shirt; it's just a cotton tank top, but he can combine it with a huge variety of outfits. Paired with a bright maxi skirt, under an off-the-shoulder sweater, with a lilac suit jacket and jeans... it's incredibly versatile while still being comfortable and easy to care for.

Epel: His first ever Applepom, more specifically, the hat. It may be missing the original apple, and it hasn't fit him in years and years, but it's still really special to him, and he has a lot of good memories associated with it.

Rook: His beaded deerskin vest. He made it by hand with his grand-maman and grand-papa when he visited them one summer. It is incredibly detailed, and - to Rook - the memories of the effort that went into its creation (from the hunting, to the tanning, to the sewing and beading) are almost more beautiful than the vest itself.

Ignihyde

Idia: Idia is our third, and final, hoodie lover! Idia's favourite hoodie is ridiculously oversized - it's absolutely MASSIVE, nearly reaching his calves in length. It's light blue, and has a pattern of black cats. He finds it to be extremely comforting to wear, and it fits his aesthetic too, so that's an added bonus!

Ortho: He doesn't exactly wear clothes, but his favourite part of any of his gear is his feet from his Athletic Gear. They're just FUN! Plus, it makes him feel like he's the same as the rest of his classmates, if only just a little bit more.

Diasomnia

Malleus: A set of dark green robes. They are beautifully tailored, the fabric is smooth, and they allow for a wide range of movement. (His second favourite item of clothing is a bucket hat that Lilia bought him. It is a horribly gaudy colour, with an odd cartoon character mascot on the front. Malleus can't wear it, of course, but he finds it endearing.)

Silver: His leather gloves, given to him by Lilia. They have become soft and pliable from the many, many hours he has used them in training and daily life, and are now perfectly formed to his hands.

Sebek: His jodhpurs. These pants are one of the absolute most comfortable articles of clothing in his wardrobe. They're also used for ONE distinct, specific purpose - horseback riding - which Sebek also appreciates about them.

Lilia: A pink mesh shirt. He finds it fun, and cool, and unique, and is just so different from what he used to allow himself to wear. Plus, it matches his hair, and he just knows that it looks good on him!

appearance: average height but on the shorter side, like 5'4 last time i checked. im a little chubby and i have a lot of body marks like scars, marks and moles. my hair is mid-length and a little curly. i wear glasses and have several ear piercings too. i wear a lot of baggy clothing; i wouldn't say i have much of a style. i just wear what i feel fits the occasion and is comfortable for me.

personality: my personality type is infp. im a very reserved person who shies away from people and usually i refrain from initiating conversations and stuff unless im pretty close to someone. if i feel comfortable enough or have known someone long enough to feel at least some security, i become less quiet and i joke around. i tend to over share sometimes, and then regret it later. i kinda tend to run my mouth without thinking. i joke a lot, and i'm not a serious person unless someone is in danger or having a rough time. i use humor to cope with like everything, and i like making people laugh. i take pride in being someone who listens/a shoulder to lean on, but i don't like opening up emotionally like that, but if i feel connected to someone i'll try my best. romantically i'm pretty shy, too. i like when people are affectionate to me, but i feel reluctant to initiate anything myself. i'm always fidgeting or moving, as i don't like sitting completely still. if someone pisses me off i can get aggressive, but not physically. i hate being talked down to. i love sugar and sweet things, cute things and animals. i'm not a huge fan of exercise.

How can someone be so improper? Or so he thinks. This is inappropriate, yet somehow he’s always the one running to scold you, all while fixing your messy tie. Sometimes stopping by your room to roll you out of bed in the morning. He’s determined to put your disheveled acts to rest.

You weren’t even that improper. It’s just he either has high standards or uses it as a reason to approach you (which he will never admit)

You quickly became part of his daily routine for whatever reason. It’s the habit, the way he’s grown so acustomed —and attached— to your antics.

He can NEVER forgive himself for thinking you were cute when you were half asleep in class. What was he thinking? Since then he’s been a LOT more nervous around you.

It’s the way you always seems to quietly listen to his rambles about his great lord —maybe you were just uninterested but he was too into the role to notice—, and the way you make him feel like he’s needed, it fuels his pride. You’re always the first to point and call out at his and Deuce’s seemingly often stupid plans, yet the next second you were sneaking through the garden with them in the middle of the night, muttering about how they’re going to be the death of you.

It’s the little, gradual things, the time you spend cleaning the class after study hours, the board games you play together during breaks. He always has a reason to seek you out whether it’s help with his homework or the new game he wanted to show you.

It’s how you seem so smart mouthed but always fall for his little jokes. How he’d laugh after seeing your flustered pout and how he can’t seem to find you scary even when you’re angry.

It’s the feeling of having a partner in crime, how you seem to always get dragged to whatever situation he causes to arise. How you’d always have his back through thick and thin, even when you curse at him for being a trouble magnet.

Pomefiore time! Which means im sorry but spoilery things arent below the cut just because... theres so many of them qiwdqi. This is also gonna be true of the next part with Ignihyde, its just too hard to seperate it out.

Theres very little explict or major spoilers but like. If you put the details and transpose them youll be able to figure it out. (Surprisingly still probably more spoilery than any other dorm is going to be)

So yeah there's some spoilers for the 3rd part of Pomefiore chapter for Vil, slight spoilers for the start and end of chapter 6 for Rook, and spoilers for one specific thing from the middle of chapter 6 for Epel.

Pomefiore

Pomefiore Productions is a brand who produces showpieces for commercial use. Bots used as runway models and movie stars, or who are supposed to star in commercials for a company.

Vil is a bot in the Schoenheit line, a set of bots made for use in films.

Prior bots in the line were mostly used AS bots, but Vil's debut role was so emotional and powerful that Pomefiore quickly began setting up more jobs for him.

Vil Schoenheit became a household name quickly, starring in film after film, even getting his own bot assisstant to help him with makeup and clothing.

Then one day it all came crashing down when a new idol bot came out: One Neige Leblanc.

Neige's popularity also began to skyrocket, and more and more roles began to go to him instead of Vil.

Eventually, he's got so little to do that Pomefiore puts him on a 'vacation' in the hopes that he can be brought back later.

Vil has little to do but wander around and stew in his resentment with Rook by his side.

Eventually he found your... quaint living space, and he began spending more and more time around you.

It felt... nice, just to be around you, you were oddly receptive to his presence and his fussing over your appearance.

He appreciated having something to do, someone to work on, since working on himself wasn't... yielding any results. (This increases exponentially once Epel starts living with you and now he's got 2 people to fuss over lol)

Oh, and if you're ever worried about the paparazzi while you're spending time with him, don't! He's much more physically capable than you'd think.

And if someone get's a little tooo crazy? He didn't spend all that time learning about makeup for nothing.

If people who seek to do you harm begin to fall into an eternal sleep, it's nothing for you to worry about.

After all, without you who else is going to *really* appreciate his beauty?

Rook was originally a bot made by a seperate company, and he was popular for hunting. However, yours wound up taking a... different path.

Errors in his programming lead to him getting discarded quickly, and sold to a worker at Pomfiore Productions, who refitted Rook to work as a companion for their newest Actor bot, a role Rook took to very well.

He was incredibly quick to identify areas of improvement, faster than even the actor bot himself.

That's not to say he's completely changed his behavior of course, he still enjoys people watching, and he loves watching gladiatorial matches almost as much as movies.

In fact as part of his original purpose he's fitted with small, long-range trackers he can affix to his targets, which he does. A little too frequently all things considered

A odd thing happened though when he was walking with Vil one day during the latter's vacation, one of his long dead trackers began pinging him again.

He was originally just going to leave it alone until after his walk, but Vil wasn't actually doing anything and so he tagged along.

The tracker had been placed on your little kitty bot. And it lead the pair straight to your home.

Rook, like Vil, loves staying over at your place inbetween people watching (unless you've got a lot of other bots at home in which case good luck getting him to leave.)

Of course, thats also in no small part due to you. You'll often feel Rook's gaze burning into the back of your head, and then turn around to see him looking at nothing in particular.

He finds you fascinating, the way you manage your life, the way you accept all the nonsense you're always thrust into. (And possibly all the other bots, despite their damage.)

He often finds himself watching you even when he isn't supposed to be. Following you from the rooftops, or peering at you from around scrap piles.

You have no need to worry of course, he's just keeping an eye on you for your safety, if someone attempts a sneak attack, he'll deal with it without you even noticing.

His eyes will always be on you.

Epel is a unique case, being a bot that works in a fruit processing wearhouse.

The company is charge wanted to improve their marketing game, so they commissioned Pomefiore Productions to adjust one of their bots to be more photogenic.

Pomefiore created Epel, and he was a hit! Cute as a button and perfect for starring in commercials or being shown to people taking tours of the facilities.

The company ordered a number of Epel bots to staff their various warehouses and one of them, yours, was a little... different.

He was tempermental, hated being complimented on his appearance, and was more prone to lifting boxes himself than transporting it mechanically.

After a particular incident when he threw a box of apples at a tour group, he was thrown out.

It was after this that he came into your life. And BOY is it an improvement to him!

No having to look pretty? No having to put on a show? He gets to just lift things and show off his strength? Oh sweet mercy!

Of course now you have to deal with purple haired always angry bot boy, but hey! It's not that bad! For you...

For anyone else who makes the mistake of cooing over how you managed to get yourself such a rare and cute android... it is pretty bad for them.

If they're lucky they'll wind up losing a few frostbitten fingers... if not...

Well let's just say Epel makes good use of that tech, even if it was originally just made to chill fruit.

(This is all true until Vil shows up. He still doesn't like Vil.)

twst characters in high fantasy roles

rewatching the princess bride had my mind racing and thinking about the cast of twisted wonderland in fantasy roles. i would consider twisted wonderland as more urban fantasy so i’m mostly looking at high fantasy like the princess bride, the neverending story, and game of thrones. i will be trying not to pigeon hole the characters into fairy tale fantasy character roles since they’re already based on fairy tale characters.

for simplicity, i am treating each dorm as its own country on this hypothetical fantastical continent. mc (you) are apart of a neutral land where you are a royal. the nrc staff hail from your land.

NRC STAFF

dire crowley

the mystical guide. good, bad, neutral? lawful, true, chaotic? you don’t know and you will never know. he’s the one guiding you through this fantastical journey. guided by the prophetic dark mirror. sometimes helpful, sometimes not. he’s unpredictable. and there’s something suspicious about him. but your parents told you to trust him, so you do.

ashton vargas

the head of the royal knights. was the youngest knight to reach such a position. physically intimidating but he’s actually really laxed when you get to know him. wanted to become a knight when he was younger. part of his motivation is revenge but you don’t see it. there’s a certain fear that he might end up down a path of destruction if he shows his true motive for revenge so he covers it up. very charismatic too. hero of his village.

mozus trein

a royal scholar. he’s the one tutoring royalty. very sought out. grew up in an aristocratic family so therefore he had the funds to pursue academia. he’s most definitely the history tutor teaching politics and you fall asleep during his lessons. his cat also viciously stares at people and doesn’t appear to like you.

divus crewel

another royal scholar. also tutoring royalty and highly sought after. teaches alchemy which interests you. unlike trein, he grew up a farm boy who managed to attend a prestigious school after passing the civil service exam. with his new money, he’s buying the newest clothes to look his best. got sucked into being a royal scholar. his true passion is owning an apothecary.

the traveling merchant. always has something you need, speaks in ominous and vague sentences. always has the answers but those answers only bring about more questions. sometimes you get frustrated with his vague answers. kind of giving off the same vibe as the duke from resident evil: village. offers tarot readings too and is extremely specific with his details. a mage but there’s a lot of people who think he’s a con artist because he’s too good. has to be too good to be true, right?

DIASOMNIA

malleus draconia

the fae prince. an incredibly powerful mage that no one stands a chance against. one should not forget to invite him to their event for his emotions affect the country he leads. it’s unknown how old the fae prince really is. outsiders know nothing of what he looks like and even his own people for he wears a different mask to each event he’s invited to. all everyone knows is that he’s incredibly tall, has black horns, and carries around his black staff. it would do you good if you didn’t get onto his bad side. or trespass his castle grounds.

lilia vanrouge

the eternal librarian. a man of unknown age with incredible magic power. always appears to have a book on hand and has records of every scholar that’s existed even before he was born. he manages an ancient library that resides in his country, the best library on the whole continent. when you come to visit to do research, you’re extremely confused. the librarian is a...child? but his voice cuts you off guard. don’t take him for a child. he’s far older than you could ever imagine and a lot more ominous than you would like. he can’t give you a straight answer and it might be the death of you.

silver

the scribe. a silent man who lingers by the side of the fae prince and keeps record of his invitations and writes down everything in official hearings. never has he seen the fae prince’s face even though he has been by the prince’s side since he was a young scribe. diligent, attentive, and doesn’t have time for gatherings. he sends out the messengers if a royal decree is announced and is far too busy to ever consider having a relationship beyond colleagues. that is, until he meets you, asking him to take you to the emerald library where the eternal librarian resides.

sebek zigvolt

the royal bodyguard. he’s a young man, probably the youngest to have ever been promoted the status of the fae prince’s royal bodyguard. his duty? to protect the prince at all costs. he is one of the only people to have seen the fae prince’s face and he works diligently to accomplish his goal. but sometimes, he might be too restrictive. complains about the prince going to too many parties, the prince staying out late at night, the prince not eating on time, the prince not drinking enough water. he’s been told to relax but the man can’t relax. it’s his duty. what if he fails? there is no failure for the diligent sebek. however, there’s also another issue: he can’t get along with the scribe. at all. resolutions are not their thing.

the lost prince. the queen was a strict woman, a stricter ruler, and an even stricter mother. everything had to be perfect. everyone had to follow the rules. the prince wanted to feel even the smallest bit of freedom when he was a child, forced to stay on the castle grounds and never allowed beyond the gates. he was only allowed to interact with certain people, only allowed to eat certain things, only allowed to do what his mother asked him to. mother, mother, mother, mother. mother this. mother that. it all traced back to her: mother. one day, a strange boy with cat ears appeared, having somehow snuck into the castle. he told the prince that he had heard tales of the red prince being locked away behind castle walls. with his hand out, he offered the young boy freedom. riddle gladly took that hand. that day, he explored the town. he got to taste a strawberry tart from a local bakery run by a family, meet a child with a toy sword who he was able to beat in a play fight, blow on dandelions, and lay down on the grass, the sun on his face surrounded by his new friends. however, it a shadow loomed over the prince’s body and when he opened his eyes, he screamed. the black knave, his mother’s most trusted soldier, was here to take him back. the prince was dragged back into the castle crying, kicking, screaming. his mother enacted a harsh punishment for her son had humiliated her. he wasn’t allowed outside of the castle again. for years, the prince was too afraid to make a move. until he saw a bird. so mundane, right? but as riddle leaned against the wall, looking outside his glass window, he saw a bird, flying, gliding against the wind, going above the wall and disappearing on the other side. it was then and there he decided he would escape and leave this empty life that held nothing but misery. it took him about six months to come up with his escape plan and another six months to implement it. but when he gathered everything he needed, he made the escape with his trusted horse vorpal. and he rode, rode far, far away from the castle. away from his life. towards the dawn, towards the forest, towards freedom, towards peace.

trey clover

the royal pastry chef. a boy who grew up near the castle walls, working at his family’s local bakery. he didn’t care about the money, only that whoever ate his food enjoyed it. on a certain sunny day, the baker met a boy with striking red hair who shyly asked if he could have a strawberry tart. when he saw the boy’s expression melt with happiness, tears beginning to fall down his cheeks as he tasted the sweet goodness of his tarts, he decided that he would strive to make pastries that would give whoever ate it the same sense of euphoria the boy had. the day was full of running around until the baker learned that this wasn’t an ordinary boy. it was the crown prince of the kingdom. he tried to convince the black knave to let the prince stay longer but he had stayed out for too long. when he was old enough, trey left his home to explore the continent and beyond, bringing back with him new baking techniques, ingredients, and spices to add to his pastries. he incorporated everything he learned over his four year journey into his baking. and before long, he got the attention of the entire kingdom. and the attention of the queen. absolutely impressed by his craft, the queen recruited him as a royal pastry chef who would make her something new every day for dessert. while life as a royal pastry chef was comfortable, it was also extremely laborious. and when you arrive, trey’s beginning to run out of ideas for the queen.

cater diamond

the court jester. his family for generations have served the court as the royal jester. he was there for entertainment. but he spoke in a strange vernacular, his sentences sounding like riddles. he’s a particularly handsome jester who can make everyone laugh and their cheeks red. carefree and copes with jokes. he remembers interacting with the young red prince a few times, who grew close to him because he was one of the few people the prince was allowed to see. however, the jester could see that the prince was not happy and longed to experience beyond the castle walls. so what did the court jester do? what a fool shouldn’t do: tell someone. the purple cat, che’nya. the mischievous child said he would take care of it. cater thought he did the right thing until he saw the prince, kicking, screaming, crying, in the hands of the black knave. the jester felt an immense guilt eat away at him and he was shunned from seeing the prince. the queen believed it was the jester’s fault for his carefree attitude had rubbed off onto her precious son. and for that, he was severely punished. part of him was relieved and satisfied with the shrieks of the queen when she learned that her son had run away. he would watch as the queen pretended her son was sick, locked away in the castle, unable to show himself to his citizens. she was pretending everything was fine, knowing that the people would turn on the queen upon learning of her mistreatment. after years of groveling at the queen’s feet, cater was finally appointed as the royal court jester. life seemed to be going well until you enter the kingdom with a shocking announcement: you’ve found the lost prince.

ace trappola

the common people’s champion. swords, ladies in waiting, chivalry. all tales he’s heard since he was a child. he wanted the glory, the riches, the luxury. his father told him he was meant to be a blacksmith. but why only be a blacksmith when he had both magical and physical talent? he watched an old knight train one day and would come back every day to watch him, mimicking his movements from the bushes. one day, the young boy came to find the knight there. except, he was behind him. the man, old and retired from his life as a knight, tells him that he’s always known the boy was there. ace begs him to train him, wanting to become a knight so badly. with reluctance, the man begins to train the young boy. he’s proud of his skills but one after, he runs into a boy with red hair who easily bests him. his pride hurt, his swears he will become better than boy with the red hair. ace was intent on keeping that promise, practicing and mastering his craft for years. his mentor told his apprentice that the life of a knight was not what it seemed by ace wasn’t deterred. when there was an announcement of a tournament, meant to recruit new members of the royal guard, he took his chance. every single one of his opponents was good but after fighting for a week straight, no rest, he came out on top, wearing that shiny silver armor and holding the sword of his mentor. he was the people’s champion and was chosen by the queen to be in the royal guard. but ace noticed something...odd. the crown prince was nowhere to be seen. he was never assigned to watch over the prince. but staring at a portrait of him had ace thinking and eventually realizing that boy who bested him as a child was really the crown prince! but where was he? where had he gone? ace was starting to get adjusted when you come in, asking for his help in tracking down the lost prince and bringing him home.

the royal alchemist. descends from a family who have served as the royal alchemist for generations. his magic is incredibly strong and he was sent to the most prestigious magic academy in the continent. he grew up comfortable, a little rowdy, little rough around the edges. and he was prepared to serve the crown prince as his royal alchemist. however, on the day he ascends into his mother’s position, the prince is nowhere to be found. the queen says it’s nothing to worry about. but in his two years of being the royal alchemist, never has deuce once seen the prince. it’s suspicious. something is off. and then he’s approached by you and, of all people, ace trappola, asking for a tracing potion to help find the lost prince.

the acting monarch. his mother married the widower king who has a son named neige leblanche. he grew up as a commoner with his mother, using his magic and theatrical skills to make extra money on the side. one day, the king visited town and noticed his mother’s striking beauty. everyone says vil looks exactly like his mother. it was soon that they were married and he was introduced to the lifestyle of a royal. but he knew, behind closed doors, people looked down upon him. he wasn’t the king’s true child so he would never be able to compete with the throne. when the king passed away, vil’s mother was chosen to be queen. but a bottle of bad wine caused her to collapse and fall intensely ill. watching her pass away, he was extremely distraught. neige was still too young to ascend the throne and vil was older. as much as they didn’t want to, they needed an acting monarch. so the step-prince was given the position. the small taste of power had him hooked and he was introduced to a world of political conflict and secret bloodshed. wanting to keep the power, vil read through as many books on the law as possible to keep his position, using his trusted assassin rook hunt to take out any adversaries. and then you come along and accidentally discover something malicious: neige’s aunt, the king’s sister, sanctioned the death of the second queen. and your mistake was telling the acting monarch of your discovery.

the assassin. a descendant of a notorious underground family of assassins and huntsmen. on the surface, he appears to be like every nobleman there is. he’s beautiful, eloquent, and well read. unknown to most people, he works directly for the royal family, taking out political adversaries who dare to challenge the monarchy. he is particularly close with the acting monarch, vil schoenheit. rook is adept in every poison, weapon, and item possible. a spoon can become a weapon of death if he needs to be. though somewhere deep down, all the assassin wants to do is retire from his life of bloodshed and live in a cottage in the woods, away from people and where no one can find him.

epel felmier

the secret aristocrat. was the bastard son of an aristocratic man. the shame was too much to bear so he was given to a local apple farmer who raised him like his own son. his beauty was truly something to behold but it had people suspicious. how could the son of a farmer possibly be this beautiful? on a sunny day while epel was carving his apples to sell them and help his father make ends meet, he is suddenly approached by a wealthy looking man with a piece of paper. it was sudden how epel was sucked into the scene of the aristocracy. he was his father’s only biological child and was set to inherit all of his father’s wealth. but epel didn’t want it. why want something that he never asked for? besides, if he had a choice, he’d share the wealth with his fellow townspeople. he grew to resent the world of the aristocracy as they continue to suffocate him with frills and lace.

the royal tactician. second in line to the throne but always underestimated. what good is he as a royal prince for his entire lifetime? his nephew is next in line as king and is very annoying. but his strategies always work. extremely intelligent and good at predicting people’s movements. but his brother never takes any of his suggestions. except...oops! an accident causes his brother’s demise but his nephew cheka is too young to take the throne. so leona stands in place of cheka until cheka becomes of age. promises to share the wealth of the elite, which is a promise he keeps. but the aristocracy isn’t so happy about his decision. it’s for the betterment of his kingdom. he has a strategy and it’s going exactly as planned.

ruggie bucchi

the conniving thief. grew up poor. resents the aristocracy and wants to watch them burn. he attempted to steal from the second prince one day and got caught. impressed, leona offered to teach him everything he knew about magic. punishment was extremely risky so ruggie had no choice but to accept. what happened was far greater than he expected. he learned the tactics of leona, learned how to read people, and eventually became leona’s trusted friend. he operates outside of the palace, listening to the gentle simmering of discontent with the current king. he steals something of value from you when you visit and you chase him down, constantly stopped by his magic. and yet you somehow manage to keep up and find a way to beat his tactics. he respects you for that and returns what he stole with a smirk on his face. when you look up, he’s already gone, having disappeared from the alleyway.

jack howl

the young knight. saw the leona kingscholar fight on the battlefield once and became inspired. wasn’t hard to begin his training as a knight as he hails from a family of knights. shows a sense of naivete in his worldview. is assigned to be a guard for the royal tactician. leona sees his interest in tactics and begins to teach jack on how to be a better one, how to outsmart his enemy. the young knight finds kinship with the royal tactician unbeknownst that he is a pawn in leona’s game.

the royal botonist. was born by the sea but was separated from his twin brother. was taken in by an family of botonists. he joined their ranks. he supplies herbs and everything necessary for the royal apothecary. has a particular fondness for mushrooms which his family finds odd. not a big fan of seafood. walks into a seaside town to do some research where he meets a man who looks very similar to him. after conversing, the chance encounter takes jade to the archives of the town where he discovers that the man is his long lost twin brother, floyd.

the pirate. born by the sea and separated from his twin brother. unlike his twin, he was taken in by a pirate crew. has a unique affinity with water magic which he uses to his advantage. not as refined as his twin brother. a lot more rowdy and teasing. definitely flirty. the women in town desire him. the men blush when he talks to them. everyone appears to be attracted to this man. your face turns beet red when he approaches you, earring hanging from his ear. he runs into a man who looks eerily similar to him where they converse. before floyd sets out on his next adventure on the seas, the same man stops him with a birth record. he reveals that he is his twin brother jade.

the civil servant. next in line to be the advisor for the future king, the crown prince. worked his way up with his intelligence. impoverished, looked down upon. stole bread, stole fruit, and, most importantly, stole books to try to learn how to read. one of the only ways he could climb was to learn to read so he could study and take the civil service exam. however, he got caught by a scholar when trying to steal a book. instead of being reprimanded, the scholar offered him a place for him to stay where he would teach jamil everything he needed to know to pass the exam. why? jamil couldn’t fathom the answer until he passed where the scholar told him they look out for each other. it was a silent understanding. to some extent, he resents the crown prince. kalim has everything jamil ever wanted. and he would throw it all away, just like that!

Has a thing for summoning cauldrons since he was young, but apparently you need to have a large amount of magic capabilities to summon objects, so [observation] deuce may actually be extremely powerful bc he was able to summon things at a young age, but he hasn't refined his powers yet so he still seems weak compared to a lot of the cast

During his delinquent phase, apparently he had a really wild hairstyle and he used his magic on people weaker than him

[Observation] Deuce is actually pretty good at lying. In his Halloween card he was able to put up a good act and deceive some of his ex gang members into following him into the forest before mildly roughing them up (keep in mind that he has not had contact with these ppl for at least a year, yet somehow he was able to assert enough authority to tell them to follow him. Also, he thought of this plan on the spot, and acted malicious enough so that the gang members would believe in him—which proves that he's not only quick witted but a convincing actor, as Jamil actually believed his act for a while)

It's implied that he and Ace are often in leadership positions, as they helped to lead heartslabyul in designing their Halloween booth, but they also mentioned that it was much easier compared to organizing unbirthday parties

[Observation] despite wanting to be an honor student, Deuce is still able to take unjustly means to achieve his goals (EX. Making a deal with Azul to pass his test), in general, deuce doesn't care too much about the method, be it through cheating or violence to get to his goal, but he does value a fair battle

[Observation] a lot of Deuce's strengths are subtle as we are frequently told abt how much of a bad student he is, but if u rly think abt it, deuce is put in leadership positions a lot, he's good a memorization and small technical details, he can be at times quick witted and deceiving, and he has the potential to be extremely powerful in magic. In conclusion Deuce is a menace and once we find out what his unique magic is I'm 100.01% sure he will become a greater menace and I think he should fight a lot of people and win

Truth be told, I enjoy all most of Jade’s outfits adhuahbsdlasa so this will probably be less of a ranking and more of me analyzing each design and/or screeching about what I like best about each one. (DBIHLVskjgdvksad I’LL TRY TO KEEP IT TOGETHER AND ACTUALLY MAKE SMART COMMENTS I SWEAR I WILL)

R -- School Uniform

A simple but effective ensemble, a standardized outfit for all NRC students (but, as I have mentioned previously, how a character chooses to wear standardized clothing/little nuances and unique flourishes can tell us a lot about the wearer’s personality). He really comes across as a polite and well-put together individual just going by his pose and how impeccable his uniform is.

You’ll also notice that he buttons up his blazer and wears gloves that conceal the entirety of his hands. THIS IS ACTUALLY QUITE SIGNIFICANT IN TERMS OF INTUITIVE CHARACTER DESIGN, because if you think about Jade, he is very secretive about himself and rarely clarifies the few details about himself that he DOES share. Thus, it would make sense that he covers up as much as possible in the clothes he wears the most frequently--it’s a reflection of how he dislikes having his own privacy disturbed or invaded.

This is just speculation on my end, but... Considering the fact that Jade enjoys raising terrariums for the joy of having power and control over a small world wow, god complex much, I would not be shocked to learn that the gloves are a subtle way of “talking down” to others (as in, implying that they’re so beneath him he wouldn’t want to touch them with his bare hands). However, the gloves may also just be a practical thing (as Jade is often doing “dirty work”; the gloves could help in reducing obvious grime or friction in whatever task Jade is asked to perform).

R -- PE Uniform

Another standardized set of clothes, this one optimized for exercise. Now, the PE Uniforms aren’t worn much differently across the cast of NRC boys, so I’ll be focusing on Jade’s pose/parts that my eyes are drawn to when I look at the card and the general look of the PE Uniform.

Firstly, I have to say that I appreciate the Octavinelle lavender on Jade (especially since the PE Uniform otherwise looks like prison yard clothing). Because of how soft it is, when that purple is paired with Jade’s deceptively gentle face... IT GIVES THE FALSE IMPRESSION THAT HE’S KIND 😂 

Another thing that I appreciate is that the tracksuit is just baggy enough to be practical for exercise and not like... skintight or too baggy. A fault of many gacha games is that form is prioritized over function (for example, female warriors may be scantily clad despite this being a realistic detriment to them in combat), because this is what will sell and rake in the cash (depending on the target demographic). I like that TWST has, in general, taken both form and function into account when designing clothes instead of skewing it hard to one over to other.

One big noticeable difference for Jade is that he has forgone his earring, which makes sense bcjsbsjs since it could get in the way of exercising. The same holds true for his later SR, Beans Camo, which also counts as athletic wear.

The stars of the show here are the waist and the neck/clavicle area. In the School Uniform, Jade is wearing his blazer over his waist, so it’s not as pronounced. Furthermore, he has his undershirt and tie done up so well that you don’t get a good view of that general area. R -- Apple Boa

I will admit that (because this is the newest design) I am not as attached to this one as I am with the others. However, the Apple Boa is adorable in its own right and it deserves recognition for that!

The color they chose for Jade is really nice; I’m glad they didn’t choose a green-blue, as it may have blended with his hair color and made him look like an amorphous blob with a random black stripe or something. The fluffy trim, apple pompom on his hat, and knit all contribute to a very cozy and fuzzy feeling. It’s nice that they suited Jade up to handle the cold weather despite him already being so used to it (since the Coral Sea is freezing)!

The highlight is definitely his expression. He’s so excited to finally have his turn experiencing the mountains in a story event................................. but there’s still a slight curve to his smile, so you know you’ve got to stay wary around him.

SR -- Labwear

Jade is one of the few TWST boys that actually wears his lab uniform the correct way (he’s even wearing his safety goggles, bless him), and for that alone, he gets bonus points. LIKE HE’S BEING WAY MORE SAFE THAN THE TWO SCIENCE CLUB MEMBERS ARE, AND THAT’S SAYING SOMETHING, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY’RE DEALING WITH MAGIC SHIT IN THE LAB. The one thing I would recommend to Jade is to find some way to tie back his loose black stripe of hair, because that could become a safety hazard. Same goes for his dangly earring, that could get caught in something. Other than that, he’s fiiiine in more ways than one.

The petri dish in his hand is cute, but he should realistically be putting that on a table to reduce the chances of him dropping it or contaminating the sample with his hot eel breath. ashdbasiydasidb NOT MUCH ELSE I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS OTHER THAN I WAS GROWING MY OWN BACTERIA BABIES WHEN I FIRST SAW THIS CARD ART SO I FEEL A SPIRITUAL CONNECTION TO IT ASHUDBASYIASODIABDBIADB JADE LET’S RAISE BACTERIA BABIES TOGETHER

OTL It’s not often when we get to see the “soft” side of Jade, so even if it’s not a gaze that’s directed at us/the player, I’m happy to see him happy with his beloved mushrooms.............................. His cheek is nice and squishy lookin’, like mochi... asdhlvuadkeafafvufa AND I KEEP STARING AT HIS LIPS FIYAFYAEOYAEIFDLIADBFAD BUT ANYWAY.

SR -- Ceremonial Robes

Of all the pre-Groovy art SR backgrounds, I like the Mirror Chamber the most. Sure, it’s dark, but I like the dim lighting and how it pairs well with the chandelier and the other dangly decorations suspending from the ceiling. It matches the Ceremonial Robes vibes quite well. 

SPEAKING OF THE CEREMONIAL ROBES, Jade wears them so well 😭 The sash accentuates his waist (even if it is covered for the most part), and we even get a flash of his thighs adbiasbiaffofialbifia which must be pretty strong from all the mountain trekking he does for club. His pose suits him too--it’s very cat-like and coy with the curled fingers and the slight smirk (smirk is more obvious in the Groovy). It lends Jade an air of mystery, but you can also see from the pose that he is very closed off and guarded. Again, this may be a nod to his preference to keep his privacy. In the Groovy, we get a better look at his eye makeup. Something you’ll notice across all the Ceremonial Robes cards is that the eye makeup is EXTREMELY heavy, usually a smoky eye. This, paired with the robes, makes them look like members of a cult-- On Jade, it looks good because it emphasizes the shape of his (usually) narrow eyes. Actually, the Ceremonial Robes eye makeup makes him look way more sinister (given the right expression) than his Dorm Uniform makeup.

SR -- Beans Camo

That outfit is SO UGLY but because it’s Jade wearing it, he makes it look good and I have to accept it 😭 I’m not a fan of camo print to begin with, but Beans Camo somehow made camo worse by making it BRIGHT and with questionable kidney bean-like blotches. AND THE WEAPONS FOR THE EVENT LOOK SO RIDICULOUS, SO IT ONLY MAKES THE BEANS CAMO LOOK GOOFIER THAN IT ALREADY IS.

What I do enjoy is the black undershirt and pants; mostly because they don’t have a ton going on to distract your eyes. They hug and conform to the shape of his body well adhgvkuqfqygoefvyqevfial;illdbfna and I can stare at those or his gloves if I ever get sick of that camo (which, trust me, I will). I think the beret is also pretty cute, even if it is useless and probably more of a hinderance than a help in the fight (though maybe that’s a part of the camoflauge magic the teachers supposedly infused the clothes with).

While the Groovy is dynamic, I would have preferred something that gave a better shot (pun intended) of the black of the outfit and not the bright camo ahlbfuada but that’s just a personal preference thing, I guess.

Alright, here’s the big one.

RIGHT AWAY, I gotta say the set/background is gorgeous. I love how the ceiling decorations spiral down in elegant coils and glow in the colors of an aurora....................and the shell phonograph is also a nice touch!! You can even see Floyd and Azul in the shot (would have been cool if they made one cohesive picture if you put their three dorm card artworks next to each other but alas, missed opportunity)! BUT THE MAIN DISH IS OBVIOUSLY JADE SO..................................

Like in his School Uniform, you can see that he keeps himself well-concealed for the Mostro Lounge’s hours of business. The hat is a nice addition to his outfit, and the colors are subdued but go well together and don’t overwhelm you. Jade has exchanged his black gloves for white ones with what I lovingly call a “butt crack window” for a circle of his palm to peek through which is just top tier 👌 (The best thing about a character that’s almost always covered up is that the instant you see, like, their exposed ankle or the slightest bit of skin, it gets me going BArKBSRalRbArKBARKBqRKbArKKKkKKbArKBarKakBjafaagLakNshecejwjwjBARK—)

... This may be a controversial opinion, but Jade’s Dorm Uniform Groovy is not only my least favorite artwork for Jade, but it’s probably also my least favorite artwork in the entire game, PERIOD. I dislike it so much, in fact, that it’s a common joke in my friend circles that “Dorm Jade is missing his Groovy art”/we just pretend it doesn’t exist.

Like... I feel like I’m expected to readily accept ALL Jade related things because he’s my favorite character, but honestly?? If something has Jade slapped onto it, it’ll make me critique it MUCH harsher 😂 And that’s definitely the case for this Groovy. It isn’t... “bad”, per say, but it’s a disappointment to me after the initial art was so nice.

The angle they chose for his face was EXTREMELY unflattering, and I feel like Vil takes up a good chunk of the frame (thus fighting with Jade for the spotlight). The subject of the scene was also just... not to my tastes? I get why it appeals to certain people, but helping someone into shoes is literally one of the least appealing things I can think of because all it reminds me of is helping your kid sibling get ready for preschool. I don’t know, for all the things Jade was helping Vil with in the vignettes, I REALLY feel like they could have chosen something better to illustrate as the Groovy 💦 THE MAIN THING THAT MESSES WITH ME IS HIS FACE THOUGH 😭 JADE USUALLY HAS SUCH A PRETTY FACE BUT IT LOOKS SO OFF-PUTTING AND UNCANNY VALLEY THERE???? SSR -- Scary Outfit

There’s a lot of components to this one, so let’s break it down one by one! (Hats off to the devs for putting a creative twist on the concept of a mummy costume; most mummy costumes just equate to skintight bandages and almost nothing else in terms of additional accessories).

FIRSTLY???? I’m super digging (yes, pun also intended) the graveyard background and the ghostly blueish tone to the whole piece 😳 The spooky vibes are impeccable dhsvsjsvjw BUT WHO CARES ABOUT THAT WHEN WE HAVE A HOT MUMMY MAN

The bandages on the hat and serving as fhe skirt/coattails really flow well, and since they’re a light material they lend a dynamic feel to the outfit, whether the wearer is standing still or movie, or whether it’s just the autumn breeze batting them around. (Oddly enough, Jade removes his earring for Halloween chsvsjsbjde bUT NOT FoR LAB OR foR COOKING??????!) The little bone bowtie in the hat is comedic and corny but cute kxbdjsvdjeje it grew on me over time!

This outfit has a LOT of belts and straps to it (which is typically a look I really dislike), but it actually pairs quite well with the monochromatic color scheme. With such a simple color palette, it doesn’t clash with all the buckles and other accessories that tie the look together. (I usually don’t comment on pants but ckdbjsbdjs the amount of buckles on that pair is insane, it looks like it would take an eternity to put on and take off djdvsjsbsjdbjs) Also, as I mentioned in my review of the Beans Camo art, I enjoy Jade in clothing that fits his form well and we pretty much got that for Scary Outfit too 😭 with the addition of whatever weird things he has strapped to his chest dbdbsgvwuwjdkdbdh WHATEVER IT STILL LOOKS GOOD

OH WND THEn Yhe GROOVY ThE fUVki g GROOVY???????? 😭 I love that TWST does a lot of unconventional things with its events, including some of the Halloween Groovies. Most games would cbjsbsjsjs use uncap art as a chance for traditionally fanservice (idk, like douse J word in fruit punch so he gets all wet and sticky and we can see his clothes cling to him), but NAHHHH, TWST devs just came for our throats and tried to genuinely terrify us. It’s refreshing to see, sjdbjsbsjs and I was so hype when I got to see an unhinged Jade card for the first time (this was before the SR Master Chef release).

bcisbsjsjsjs I THINK IT’S FUNNY THaT the lighting even in the Groovy is very soft and pastel-y yet it’s there illuminating his scary face 😂 Here, we can see all the elements of his costume really coming together to make for one unified “mummy” look; the “bone” bandages falling apart, all the belts trying to hold his “decaying” body together, the “flesh” beneath the bone turning black from rot... And, of course, his crazed expression 😳 Love that one eye’s more open than the other, it makes me feel like he’s super getting into scaring others and he’s finally letting loose, going all out, having a real scream of fun himself....................................

IT’S SO MUCH FUN THAT YOU CAN??? SEE SO MUCH DETAIL THAT YOU CAN LITERALLY COUNT EVERY TOoTH IN hiS gAPiNG MOUTH........................ IN FACT, when his Halloween card first released, my rot was so immense that I had a prolonged argument with a friend about how many teeth were in Jade’s mouth 😳

The only things worth nothing on his outfit are the colors of the sash and the ribbon being different (but not unexpected, given the colors differed on the other boys) and the lapel pin. It’s a cute little mushroom!! HBFIFBABDAOGUDBAID It’s very cute and suits him. I find it interesting that the mushroom is so round and cute looking when Jade is very... well, decidedly NOT that (at least not his TRUE personality). And, as expected, he’s buttoned up properly and all.

He looks kind of slim compared to other artworks in his Groovy, but I think that’s because his arm is blocking off the view of some of his body. This Groovy artwork also shows us Jade looking surprised, which drastically alters his eye shape, making it come off as more of what we would consider a “typical” eye shape. It almost makes him look like a totally new character ifiasdasbdasodiladbasod I also like that the Groovy shows him having a tender moment of just goofing around with Floyd <3 Very wholesome, but the picture doesn’t make as much sense if you don’t also have Birthday Boy Floyd’s Groovy. They really tell a story when put together!

SSR -- Union Birthday

Honestly, I prefer the Birthday Boy standard art to the Union Birthday standard art. One massive gripe I have with the Union Birthdays is that ALL of the boys wear their clothes the same way. This was not the case for Birthday Boys (for example, you’d have more laidback characters with their shirts slightly undone/unbuttoned), and I’m not sure why they removed that small aspect of uniqueness for the Union Birthdays. This isn’t really a change that affects Jade (because let’s be real, he’d probably be wearing it properly anyway), but I just wanted to make note of that because it DID end up affecting Floyd, and it was so weird to see that.

Speaking of Union Birthdays in general, though? Not a fan. I would be fine with it if it were just the formal elements (bowtie, vest, dress shirt, etc.), but the letterman jacket ruins it all for me. In my opinion, it clashes terribly and adds too many complicated elements and designs to art that already has WAY too much going on in the comic book style background. (Admittedly, I’m also biased against the jacket because it reminds me of stereotypical high school movie jocks being comedically evil for no reason... and I really dislike that trope.)

ON THE PLUS SIDE, WE GET A GOOD LOOK AT J WORD’S TINY TINY TINY WAIST IN HIS UNION BIRTHDAY ART, THAT’S SOMETHING AT LEAST. As usual, his expression is also on point I hate how he’s staring right at you, and I like the little Mountain Lovers Club patch~

The Groovy for this card, though??? SO GOOD, I MUCH PREFER IT TO THE BIRTHDAY BOY GROOVY ASDIAIDADKJABDADSIABIDBPAFOADSIFF It’s another brief moment where we get to see Jade genuinely smile AND WITH HIS TEETH OUT THIS TIME asdhbasdas He so rarely smiles like that while actually enjoying himself and having fun with his peers, looking all messy................................
