could you write a fic where reader is a taylor swift lover and rafe kinda gets annoyed when she talks about her, but one night, after a party, reader’s a little drunk and they get into rafe’s car where she starts blasting ‘lover’ by taylor swift and she literally serenades him blah blah blah taylor then starts to grow on rafe (idk it sounded cuter in my head)
i love this and taylor, ahh. thank you, angel, for your request! <3
you’d been talking about taylor swift nonstop for the past week. it wasn’t your fault—her music was a masterpiece, and you were pretty sure even rafe knew it deep down, though he would never admit it.
the night of topper’s party had been wild. the keg stands, the music, the dancing—everything blurred into a haze of laughter and neon lights. by the time rafe herded you into his car, you were more than a little tipsy, your cheeks flushed and eyes sparkling.
“okay, let’s get you home, angel,” rafe muttered, sliding into the driver’s seat. you leaned your head back, fumbling with your phone to cue up some music.
“wait,” you said, swiping through your playlist with drunken determination. “we need… a vibe.”
“we need silence,” rafe countered, starting the car.
“but it’s our girl taylor—”
“taylor this, taylor that,” rafe muttered as he slid into the driver’s seat after the party. “i’m starting to think you love her more than you love me.”
you were just tipsy enough not to care about his faux annoyance.
“and you love it,” you teased, reaching for your phone to connect to the car’s bluetooth. he groaned but didn’t stop you. a few moments later, the soft opening chords of lover filled the car.
you gasped dramatically, turning to face him. “oh my gosh, baby, this is our song!”
he shook his headwith a grin, “it’s definitely not.”
“no, baby,” you said dreamily, turning to him. “this song… is so us.”
he glanced at you, eyebrow raised. “oh, really?”
you ignored him, singing along as the lyrics began, your voice slightly slurred but heartfelt. by the time you hit the chorus, you were full-on serenading him, hands clasped to your chest like you were performing on stage.
“can i go where you go?” you crooned, leaning closer to him with an exaggerated pout. “can we always be this close forever and ever?”
rafe rolled his eyes but didn’t tell you to stop. in fact, a small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he turned his attention back to the road.
by the bridge of the song, you’d managed to coax him into humming along. “see? you’re a swiftie in denial!” you declared triumphantly.
“yeah, yeah,” he grumbled, but there was no heat in his voice. maybe it was the alcohol or the way you lit up when you sang, but something about it made him start to wonder what all the fuss was about.
for a moment, the world narrowed to just the two of you—your slightly off-key singing, your hand in his, and the song weaving a warm cocoon around the car. rafe’s heart did an odd little flip. he’d never admit it, but the way you looked at him in that moment, eyes full of affection and trust, was enough to make him want to pull over and kiss you senseless.
in the weeks that followed, rafe started noticing taylor swift everywhere. at first, it was annoying—you’d hum her songs while making coffee or quote her lyrics during arguments “this is me trying, rafe!”. but gradually, something shifted.
one night, he caught himself humming “cruel summer” in the shower. another time, he turned on the radio in his truck and didn’t immediately switch the station when “you belong with me” came on. it wasn’t until he was alone in his room, scrolling through his phone, that he found himself… adding “lover” to his playlist.
by the time your anniversary rolled around, rafe had a plan. after dinner, he led you to his truck and turned on the stereo. the familiar strums of “lover” filled the air.
your jaw dropped. “no way. is this… are you playing taylor?”
“don’t make it a big thing,” he grumbled, though the corners of his mouth twitched.
you stared at him, eyes wide with amazement. “rafe cameron, are you becoming a swiftie?”
“let’s not get carried away,” he said, pulling you into his arms as the song played. “but maybe… i get it now.”
as you swayed together under the stars, you rested your head against his chest, your heart swelling with joy. taylor swift might not have been rafe’s first love, but you had a feeling she’d earned a permanent spot in his heart—right next to you.

Newest Member of Cultracha

<- BACK TO MASTERLIST
Pairing: ot8 (skz) x fem!reader (9th member)
Genre: Fluff, Crack? Idol Au
Warnings: cult members, slight mention of religion, being in a van? idk?
Notes: Ok at first I was like let me wait until I post the full master list of everything...but I kinda feel bad that I'm not feeding y'all anything so here you go.... Basically Y/n is part of Cultracha w Hyunjin and Jeongin, this is the backstory of it. YAYYYY FIRST FIC PART OF THE Y/N MASTERLIST!!!
Summary: Stopping on a road trip to take a bathroom break becomes a little more memorable than you thought it would be.
-please read responsibly, and remember that this work is fiction and meant strictly for imaginative fun. the idols used in fics are more accurately face claims and personality outlines for imaginary characters, and should not be interpreted as factual representations of existing people
Word count ~700 ;)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The van hums along the scenic coastal road, and the atmosphere inside is electric with excitement. You're nestled between Felix and Changbin, enjoying the animated chatter and laughter of your fellow members.
Bang Chan, your designated driver, glances over his shoulder and grins, "Alright, who's ready for some awesome tunes?" He cranks up the music, and the van erupts with cheers and claps.
Seungmin, riding shotgun, adds with a mischievous grin, "As long as you don't play any of those old-school songs, Chan."
Chan rolls his eyes, pretending to be offended. "Hey, my playlist is diverse!"
A chorus of playful laughter fills the air, and you join in. Seungmin leans toward you, teasing, "Don't worry, Y/n, I'm sure he's got at least one song from this decade on there."
You giggle, feeling the friendly vibes flowing through the van. The snacks you packed are making the rounds, and there's an ongoing competition between Hyunjin and Jeongin to see who can finish their bag of chips first.
As you navigate through the twists and turns, the conversation shifts to jokes. Han clears his throat dramatically. "Alright, guys, get ready for the funniest joke you'll ever hear."
"Let's hear it," Minho urges, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Han smirks, "Why did the scarecrow win an award?"
The van falls into a brief silence before Jeongin's deadpan response, "Because he was outstanding in his field?"
Han bursts into laughter, clapping his hands. "Yes! You got it!"
The rest of you burst into laughter as well, teasing Han for his choice of joke. "Wow, Han, you're really raising the bar for comedy," Seungmin jokes, earning more laughter.
Felix chimes in with his Australian accent, "Alright, I've got one. Why don't scientists trust atoms?"
Your curiosity piqued, you lean in. "Why?"
"Because they make up everything!" Felix delivers the punchline with a grin, and the van erupts into laughter once again.
Hyunjin claps him on the shoulder. "Guys I might actually jump out of the van if I hear one more joke."
As the jokes and laughter continue, Bang Chan suggests a bathroom break. You spot a small convenience store and point it out. The van comes to a stop, and you all pile out, stretching your legs and enjoying the fresh air.
The restrooms are a bit off the beaten path, nestled between tall trees. The small store looks like something straight out of a movie. After using the restroom, you exit and notice two individuals standing near the entrance. You hear snippets of their conversation about spirituality as you pass by.
"Excuse me, miss," one of them begins, stepping toward you. "Have you ever considered the path to true enlightenment?"
Caught off guard, you stutter, "Well, I..."
Before you can finish, the other person joins in, their eyes intense. "Our journey has led us to discover profound answers. Are you on a journey of your own?"
Feeling a bit overwhelmed, you mumble, "I'm sorry, I have to go," and quicken your pace to the van.
Once inside, the memory of the encounter lingers, and your wide eyes don't go unnoticed by your members. As they return, laughter and smiles in tow, Hyunjin notices your demeanor.
"Hey, Y/n, everything okay?" he asks, genuine concern in his voice.
You take a deep breath and share the bizarre encounter with the strangers. The van goes quiet as everyone absorbs the story, but soon enough, a burst of laughter fills the space.
Jeongin chuckles, "Cult members? Seriously?"
Minho grins, "Only you could attract that kind of attention, Y/n."
You let out a nervous laugh, "Yeah, tell me about it."
Changbin shakes his head with a smirk, "Well, you're back with us now, safe and sound."
Felix pats your shoulder, "Don't worry, Y/n, we won't let any cults recruit you."
As the van continues down the coastal road, you feel the warmth of your friends' comfort. Bang Chan offers a reassuring smile through the rearview mirror. "We've got your back, always."
Minho adds with a chuckle, "Yeah, and if they ever ask you to join, just tell them you're already part of the most exclusive cult – Stray Kids."

Beta Squad members as The Weeknd songs {and why}
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・. .・
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・. .・
AJ: Shameless
guys guys guyyyssss , listen to the fvcking lyrics and tell me that’s not how you imagine being in a relationship with him!! the melody too, like it just gives off such Aje vibes you know? trusstt this is his song 100% , im sure with this one
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・. .・
Niko: Losers
now now now, why would I pick a semi-basic song for my husband? well it’s not really basic though. listen to the words and fricking tell me that it doesn’t sound like a Niko thing?? like the lines “cause stupid’s next to I love you” and obviously “only losers go to school” ahahah. and the melody is so upbeat but not too over the top at the same time, just like Niko, you guys get me??? like plz I put a lot of thought into this one ahahah
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・. .・
Sharky: Rockin’
sooo I was stuck in between this song and ‘Next’ but then I came to a conclusion that the latter is too too chill (almost sad) and the lyrics wouldn’t make sense. maybe the lyrics of ‘Rockin’ don’t all apply to Sharks, but the melody is his 100% because of how catchy and easy going it sounds!!! and you would totally be rockin’ together. being with sharky would be like dating your best friend no? j think ab it, he loves to gossip (podcasts r there for a reason), he dresses sooo well (outfit matchy matchy), great listener and an overall sweetheart!!! and the line “you don’t have to waste your energy”!?!? a slay line, defo cause he’d be so carefree w u and feel amazing. Sharky ily sm <3
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・. .・
Kenny: Gasoline
ssshhhh guys, this is such an underrated song Im telling you, j like Kenny. this song is j *chefs kiss* for him, despite the fact that I can’t explain why the main chorus of the song has me thinking ab Kenny when the lyrics have nothing to do w him. Ik it feels like I j wasn’t bothered for poor Kenny, but that ain’t the case. really like, here you either get it or don’t, it’s j all ab the vibe rlly. (also the OD line in the chorus kind of resembles his boxing to me..like if u were to be in a relationship you’d obviously help him, help him stay motivated, always be on his side and support him no matter what, that’s why it’s “I know you won’t let me OD” , cause he would literally trust you w his whole life!!)
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・. .・
Chunkz: Ordinary Life
lyrics lyrics lyrics is all I can say guys. maybe don’t listen to them too deeply, but off of the surface vibes we get religion, fame and the contrast of the two. we all know Chunkz takes his religion seriously, to the point where he gave up music, and we all know he is considered a very successful individual. so connecting the two, he probably does have a hard time balancing them which only makes sense because usually religion is more ab the spiritual world rather than the material. additionally the main chorus is lively tuneful but still sounds kind of mature (u get me guys? I hope so) which is literally a description of our bby Chunkz <3
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・. .・
BONUS:
Filly: Best Friends
honestly self-explanatory hahaha, like this man always talking how he doesn’t want a serious relationship or anything like that, like he a fwb typa guy. lyrics v fitting if like someone ends up falling for him (me), I mean cmon like who wouldn’t…it’s Filly. looks, charisma, vibe, j a dream man fr. the melody lowk calm, drk if it’s v Filly but in some way I would say yes..

Golden Days and Gray Skies: The Nostalgia of Fearless (Taylor's Version)
As a longtime Taylor Swift fan, I was beyond excited for the release of Fearless (Taylor's Version). This album holds a special place in my heart, as the original Fearless was the soundtrack to my childhood year. Taylor’s decision to re-record her early albums is not just a business move, it’s a powerful reclaiming of her music and her story.
Track list
Fearless The title track is such a perfect opener. It captures that feeling of young love and adventure. Taylor’s voice sounds even more powerful now, and it makes me feel all the butterflies again.
Fifteen This song just feel so high school. It’s all about those first crushes and the lessons we learn. The way she tells the story is so relatable, and I love how it feels like she’s giving us advice from a big sister.
Love Story This is an absolute classic. It still gives me chills every time I hear it. The romance in this song is timeless, and it feels just as magical now as it did back in 2008.
Hey Stephen This track is just pure fun. It has such a catchy beat, and the lyrics are super cute. You can’t help but smile when you listen to it. It’s all about those exciting crush moments.
White Horse This song hits hard. It’s about realizing that not every relationship is a fairy tale, and Taylor nails the emotion here. Her voice is so raw and beautiful, it really pulls at your heartstrings.
You Belong With Me Who doesn’t love this anthem? It perfectly captures that feeling of wanting someone who doesn’t see you that way. The chorus is super catchy, and I still find myself singing along every time.
Breathe (feat. Colbie Caillat) This collaboration is so soothing. It talks about the pain of letting go, and both their voices blend beautifully together. It’s one of those songs that makes you feel all the emotions.
Tell Me Why This track really captures confusion in relationships. You can feel her frustration in every line, and it’s so relatable for anyone who’s been through a tough breakup.
You’re Not Sorry This song is all about betrayal, and Taylor delivers it with such power. You can hear the hurt in her voice, making it a standout moment on the album for sure.
The Way I Loved You I love how this song contrasts a passionate relationship with a more stable one. It really shows how complicated love can be, and the storytelling is just amazing.
Forever & Always This one hits home too. It talks about heartbreak, and Taylor’s delivery makes it feel so real. You can really sense the pain in her voice.
The Best Day Aww, this song always makes me tear up! It’s such a sweet tribute to her family, especially her mom. The love she expresses here is so genuine, it warms my heart.
Change This track is all about overcoming obstacles, and it gives me chills. The message of resilience is uplifting, and I love singing along to this one. It feels empowering.
Jump Then Fall This track is such a bubbly addition to the album! It’s all about the excitement and innocence of falling in love. The cheerful melody always puts a smile on my face.
Untouchable The dreamy, soft vibes of this song are mesmerizing. It has a unique atmosphere compared to the rest of the album, and Taylor’s voice sounds magical here.
Forever & Always (Piano Version) This stripped-down version is heartbreakingly beautiful. The raw emotion in her voice paired with the piano makes it even more poignant than the original version.
Come In with the Rain A hidden gem! This song is so underrated. It’s about waiting for someone to come back into your life, and Taylor expresses that yearning so well.
Superstar This sweet song feels like a love letter to a distant crush. The starstruck tone and tender lyrics make it feel personal yet relatable.
The Other Side of the Door This is one of my favorite tracks! The bridge is absolutely iconic, with Taylor pouring her emotions out in a way that feels so authentic. It’s a perfect mix of drama and vulnerability.
Today Was a Fairytale This song is pure magic. It’s light, romantic, and feels like it was taken straight out of a fairy tale. It’s a timeless track that complements the album beautifully.
Vault Tracks
You All Over Me (feat. Maren Morris) This new track is fantastic. It talks about memories after a breakup, and Maren’s voice adds something special to it. I can totally relate to the lyrics.
Mr. Perfectly Fine Such an upbeat song! It’s catchy and fun while reflecting on moving on from someone who wasn’t right for you. I find myself dancing every time I hear it.
We Were Happy This one feels nostalgic and bittersweet, like looking back at happier times in a relationship. You can really feel the longing in her voice, which makes it so relatable.
That’s When (feat. Keith Urban) A beautiful duet about timing in love. Their voices work so well together, and the lyrics are heartfelt, definitely one of my favorites from the vault!
Don’t You (feat. Phoebe Bridgers) Wow, this song is hauntingly beautiful! It dives deep into heartbreak, and both artists bring so much emotion to it. It just sticks with you.
Bye Bye Baby This closing track wraps up everything nicely. It reflects on loss but also hints at moving forward. Such a perfect ending to an amazing album.
As a Swiftie, I absolutely love this album so I would give the whole album a 9/10 rating. It's nostalgic yet fresh, showcasing Taylor's incredible talent as both a songwriter and performer. If you are a person who loves country pop, I really do recommend this album for you to listen.

also after listening to the entire album w my earbuds I finally have my fav songs 🤓☝️ which are def selfish waltz (jongho adlibs 🤤) and enough (just. the best vibes ever)! iomt follows behind them and bonus points bc of the viola in it 🤌 (I have been playing for 12 years, that is For Me). then comes deep dive which would 100000% be my Favorite if not for the really abrupt ending :( a final chorus would have tied it all together and made it 🤌🤌. and then I just unfortunately don't super care for man on fire 🥲 it is too atmospheric for me, However the chorus is incredibly good. it reminds me of one of my fav ag*st d songs, burn it.
and scene 1 value? MY GOD 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌 al mentioned they sampled tchaik and now that I have my competent earbuds I just 🤌🤌🤌🤌 man I sure love the 🤌🤌 emoji today. anyways thank u boy group ateez

Thoughts on the TNA remix!
Suburbia Overture
• Loveddd this one sm, genuinely had me giggling and kicking my feet
• The vocals are so much clearer in this version, especially w/ the ensemble parts (doo-wops, ‘good morning!’ etc.)
• Not rlly sure how to feel about the drums tho, idk why but it was kind of giving me trap vibes?? It didn’t sound bad or anything, just not what I was expecting + it was a little out of place in the first section
• I feel like the musical theatre/60s doo-wop aspect of Greetings From Mary Bell Township was kind of toned down a little bit in this version? Maybe that’s just me tho
• The part before Vampire Culture was AMAZING, the crackly, radio filter really works for this section and the instrumental in the background was incredible, would rather listen to this part than the original any day
• Speaking of Vampire Culture, WOW did I love this version of it
• Like the transition from GFMBT felt so much more impactful in this version?? Genuinely felt like a punch in the gut, had me floored
• The clear vocals make this version of VC so much better as well, love that we can hear the screaming in the intro and instrumental breaks properly now
• A little less chaotic than I wanted tho, but that’s more of a personal problem than anything
• My fave part of the song by far
• Also love how much easier to hear the vocals in Love Me, Normally is now
• I do miss the piano being more audible but it’s not a huge issue
• The original still probably gets the edge over this one, but I still adored it from start to finish, such a good intro
2econd 2ight 2eer
• S!
• Do you think this one is pronounced ‘two-econd two-ight two-eer’?
• I didn’t really like the vocals on this one tbh, felt a bit too echoey for me
• This version just feels a bit washed-out too me, idk
• The instrumental sections are amazing though, I love the slightly louder guitar during the piano solo
• I don’t really have much to say about this one
• It was still good, but I’d rather listen to the original any day
Laplace’s Angel
• ‘feat. The Onceler’
• I acc love this man
• The build-up to this one is sm better imo, and I love the extra brass part in the intro
• The vocals are thankfully much better here, and the song overall feels cleaner
• The background voices in the chorus are a little louder and I can actually here what they’re saying now
• Especially love the piano here, it’s always my favourite part of the live performances so I appreciate it getting some more love here
• The percussion here is also so much clearer, which is always a plus
• The bridge is genuinely incredible, like I’m literally ascending
• The added percussion in that section helps so much
• Acc might prefer this one to the original, surprisingly
• The slightly quieter instrumental works in its favour
I / Me / Myself
• I’m not sure why but I didn’t really like this one?
• Idk it’s kind of got the same problem with 222 for me, the vocals just don’t sound particularly clear and I’m not a fan of the effect Will uses here
• A little disappointing bc I was rlly hoping to love this one
• The piano solo is way better in this version tho, it’s a big improvement from the original
• Overall tho it was just kind of forgettable
• Not exactly bad, like it’s still I / Me / Myself, but I don’t think I’d give it another listen
…well, better than the alternative
• Probably my favourite on the whole album tbh
• Something about this version just hits the spot, idk man
• Like don’t get me wrong, I love the original WBTTA, but this kind of live music vibe really works for it
• I can see why people were comparing it to ICIMI/ICID, I love how much more mellow and authentic this version feels
• The production on the drums is so much better as well, which is a complaint I saw a lot of people had with the original
• The different take for vocals is also a really neat touch, though there’s a couple of parts where I prefer the original delivery (mainly the ‘if everyone’s sick nobody can catch it’ part)
• I feel like this version is a little slower as well? Or at least it feels that way, but I think it definitely makes the song a lot more emotional
• Like I was already crying to this song on a daily basis, but this version genuinely makes me sob
• It might be the ukelele emphasis as well? I also really love the background vocals
• The bridge is also phenomenal, that piano never fails to make me fall to my knees in anguish
• The viola (I think it’s a viola? I’m not entirely sure tho) is also really nice in this version, it definitely ties the section together
• Overall this is definitely better than the original for me, immediately added to the 17 hour long playlist
Outliars and Hyppocrates
• No way he lied about the apple thing?? I thought I could trust you Will Wood, you’ve always been so honest w/ us
• What next, you’re going to tell me you don’t actually have a daughter?
• I’m so happy the skeleton bones were added in this version
• Unfortunately I think I prefer the original instrumental tho
• I don’t have any issue w/ the vocals here, but honestly the instrumental in Outliars was always my favourite part of the song, so changing it so drastically left me a little sad
• Bonus points for the skeleton bones though
Black Box Warrior
• I showed my dad the new title for this song and I think he had a stroke
• This might be the longest WW title ever? Not sure though, BFB might still reign supreme
• I really like the drums here, and while the focus on the piano in the original is one of my favourite things about BBW, I think the choice to let some of the other instruments have their time to shine helps this version really stand out
• Surprisingly, the echoey vocals in the choruses actually add to this version, rather than annoy me like 222 and I / M / M
• I ADORE the instrumental and monologue section in this version
• Like I’m not sure how Will managed to make it better than it already was
• What did he put in this part
• Overall really solid, tho I think I might prefer the more piano-centric original a tiny bit
• I’m a little biased tho
Marsha, Thankk You For The Dialectics
• Gonna be honest rn, I really don’t like this version
• Like it pains me to say it
• But the instrumental is far too quiet
• Where is the punch of the saxophone in the intro Will? Where is my banging piano tune?
• Marsha is already one of the less chaotic songs on the album, you did not need to do this to me
• It kind of feels like it’s the only thing that was changed as well
• There’s really nothing else for me to enjoy about this version
• It’s still Marsha tho
• + the title is amazing, love the Stranger Things ref and the confirmation that the ‘thankk’ was a typo
Memento Mori
• My second favourite in the album
• Actually adore this version, 100% better than the original
• The background vocals are once again louder in this version, which adds a ton more to the original song
• I always liked the relative simplicity of MM when compared to the rest of the album thematically, but I like the added texture here
• The little woosh in the bridge also makes me happy so yk
• It’s probably the least changed song out of all of them but I still prefer it to the original

ok for the benefit of everyone i am putting my ttpd thoughts under the cut bc i had a lot of them. i did listen to the album and i had a fun time writing my opinions as i went! i haven't done any of the extra songs yet but i probably will tomorrow.
overall thoughts: i like this album pretty well! definitely more to my taste than midnights. i'm not instantly in love with it, but i will listen to at least some of the songs a lot and i'll give the whole thing a few more chances to grow on me. kind of a 7/10 for me personally - i'm not sold on songs as vehicles for Lore, i need to think it's a good song to listen to if i'm going to like it. i wanted more differences in tempo or dynamics throughout; at times songs felt a little same-y. anyway, my first impressions song by song!
Fortnight: honestly i just don't love the word fortnight there are too many T's in it. overall 7/10. i like it but i want a tempo change or something.
TTPD: the lyrics... babe. but at least she figured out how to say fuck like a normal person. "Gonna troll you" is also a lot. 5/10 doesn't hugely do it for me, would skip.
MBOBHFT: like this one more. she's doing that thing she does where there are more words crammed into the verse than she needs but the chorus really does it for me. 7.5/10
Down Bad: i like the dreamy vibes. weirdly reminds me of another song? specifically fuck it if i can't have him; my brain is itching. anyway 7/10? WAIT if i can't have you kelly clarkson. (not totally convinced that was it. still can't place it)
So Long, London: wish it had instruments? interesting cadence, reminds me of Lana a little. i wish she didn't use so many modifiers but it's a decent song 7/10
BDILH: y'know i like the message. she's right fuck swifties. we're handshake about this. this one is pretty good! 7.5/10. too long though. has the staying power of like a 4 min song (i think everyone was so extremely weird about this situation and it makes sense that she thinks so too)
FOTS: again i just want less synths. i like the chorus a lot actually. kinda over how she uses American. wait what's happening to this song. solid 7/10
Florida!!!: Florence!!! this one was a guaranteed hit for me. fav so far for sure. 9/10 going on the playlist (the no-skip tswift playlist)
Guilty as Sin?: starting to feel a little samey! not a ton of tempo differences on this album. wild to write a song about wanting this hard. feels kinda honest which is refreshing after midnights. not super my song but i don't hate it. 6.5/10 JESUS COMPARISON??? (this added a point. i feel like people throw out 'unhinged' about her when she's always struck me as an extremely precise planner but this was still a big moment for me. she should do more stuff like this. she should get weirder.)
WAoLOM?: stranger things ass imagery. i like the scream i want more variation in dynamics. pretty good song! i like it as a continuation of anti-hero. 8/10. on the playlist
ICFH(NRIC): we love talking about him and smoke i will be listening to colors. i wish it was faster! but i like it. 8/10
loml: again with the modifiers. nice lyrics in this one imo. kinda sounds like you're losing me. 8/10
ICDIWaBH: very mastermind intro! again w/ the thesaurus problem. thank you. thank you. faster song. 9/10 on the playlist. get a therapist fr girl
TSMWEL: she said you get one fast song. piano!!! honestly i like the way it builds and i like the paranoia. again, feels honest. 7.5/10
The Alchemy: i like it! reminds me of the archer + willow. god she loves a sports metaphor. i will listen to this more. 8.5/10
Clara Bow: kinda feels like an Olivia dig. been very interesting to see the progression of The Lucky One -> here. can't pretend you're not the establishment. 7/10
and just for fun - here it is in the glitter gel pen :P i had fun with this! i'll probably do it for the other tracks too - it was like pretending to be a reaction channel
#taylor swift#ttpd#to my mutuals.......... i contained this for all of YOU#the way i know this is going to make people post vaguely that i 'don't understand Art' or whatever... couldn't care less peace and love#some of these lyrics are good! some are awful! this is almost always the case with her.

Okay I sadly still haven't gotten time to listen to the full Steph playlist yet but YES YES YES FIONA APPLE AND THE MOUNTAIN GOATS!!! HELL FUCKING YEAH!! The vibe may not be fitting but another Steph song I absolutely adore is "still alive" by the spook school, literally the chorus is screaming "fuck you, I'm still alive!" And if that's not Steph then idk what is. I also can't think of a specific song but I often think of Steph when listening to Adrian Lenker? Especially Kerina but I'd need to listen to the lyrics a lot closer. Normally I just hear "you don't want me honey just cause I wanted you" and start banging my head against a floor thinking about Steph <3 erm Big Man by Juno Hasson is one but that's shameless plugging bc I know the artist of that song, lmao. OH BAD MOVE lich rally one of my fav bands, songs that make me think of Steph include: Family Secret, Sorry That I'm Not Better, and Outta My Head. And maybe The Verge. mm what else...Gofer by Yucky Disaster and potentially Running In Circles by Faith Zappa? But I'm not sure on that last one. This is so many omg I'm sorry 😭 but yes will hopefully FINALLY get time to listen to the complete Steph playlist soon but I'm loving what you're cooking so far
SO glad the playlist has been solid 4 you so far. There’s a strange amt of Fiona Apple songs which are just About Steph to me. Like ‘oh well’ particularly is just absolutely Steph like come on those lyrics were written about her.
Listened to still alive by spook school it’s literally a perfect Steph song.. it rly gives BW Road Home Batgirl to me, and generally BG2009 w the chorus.
Had to listen to Karina on repeat bc it rly does work so well for Steph.. yeah the line ‘you don’t want me just ‘cause I wanted you’ makes me a little sick. I am going to break Stephanie brown out of the narrative. Comic cancelled I’m taking her home. Even with the usage of ‘cause instead of “because” is such a classic Steph-Ism.
Gofer instantly clicked as a Steph song, also I just really liked it. Great mix of vaguely upsetting lyrics and a chipper tone. Which too is stephanie brown coded.
The Verge to me is totally Steph Bg2009, especially early on in the series while she’s still finding her footing and beginning to build herself back up from her lowest point. It’s also a banger, Rly like this one.
Family Secret as young Steph’s reflection on her mom’s addiction works so so well, and upsets me. Could also be abt Cluemaster and also Arthur’s abusiveness, but I really like how the lines ‘you’re all cold and ‘I don’t understand now why you wanna leave me alone’ can apply to how closed off and unavailable Crystals drug addiction made her especially when Steph was younger. Crystal and Steph’s relationship is so so interesting to me. Like there can be a lot of anger there, but like w everything else about Steph there’s also this over abundance of love and dedication.
Anyways thanks for sending Steph songs, I really liked them all, she makes me insane and crazy and I love her and also I love music so I’m always happy to have more Steph-like songs.
Also feel free to send me ur thoughts if u get a to finish the playlist! I’d love to hear your take / impressions, + any more other songs you might wanna recommend, but gen no pressure!

Tell me about the Noah Kahan Layton animatics 👁👁
Smirks. Oh boy get ready for an infodump.
Here’s the sketch (not all of the planned ones just the ones I had thought up on the spot) and the actual thoughts are under the cut and it’s going to be. Long
Not going to go into detail on the plans themselves unless I get asked to about a particular one it’ll just be my thoughts on why it fits. If I don’t have a song from him it’s either that I have an idea that half fits or don’t have it all fleshed out
Stick Season
Northern Attitude
I think Northern Attitude is a Des song
You build a boat, you build a life.
You lose your kids, you lose your wife
And
If you get too close
And I'm not how you hoped
Forgive my northern attitude
Oh, I was raised out in the cold
If the sun don't shine
'Til the summertime
Forgive my northern attitude
Oh, I was raised on little light
Literally him. Left alone in his house at a young age, built himself up. Got his shit together and settled down and had it all ripped away from him.
Come Over
Randall vibes (Stansbury era)
And my mouth was designed for my foot to fit in it
Oh, the words they went missin' when the stock market crashed
^angelas tears. He doesn’t know how to deal with his emotions, much less other people’s.
Someday I'm gonna be somebody people want
Randall on the expedition. His whole thing is that he wants to prove himself. Randall is very much an insecure needing reassurance but covering it up with reckless confidence kid.
New Perspective
Randall vibes but MG era
If I could fly I doubt I'd even do it
I'd probably get high and crash or something stupid
Ironic here. Talking w descole
Gave me your word and now I can't pronounce it
No thing's so sure that I can't learn to doubt it
And the chorus
Ooh, this town is for the record now
The intersection got a Target
And they're calling it downtown
You and all of your new perspective now
Wish I could shut it in a closet
And drag you back down
This is aimed at Henry and the development of Monte D’or. On how it’s so close to Stansbury and Henry profited from his death.
Orange juice
I actually have a page for this one! So good for you for sticking around till here
It’s old but encapsulates more of my idea for the animatic
Henry @ Randall post MM. in this particular one it’s more of a scenario where Randall has left Monte D’or after everything and is back for visiting occasionally.
Feels like I've been ready for you to come home
For so long
That I didn't think to ask you where you'd gone
Why'd you go?
And the verse
See the graves as you pass through, from our crash back in '02
Not one nick on your finger, you just asked me to hold you
Literally the ending of MM. flooded the city with sand.
But it made you a stranger and filled you with anger
Now I'm third in the lineup to your Lord and your Savior
Not sure if it’s visible in the picture but I have lord as Angela and savior as Hershel. He’s always been third place for Randall.
You said my heart has changed and my soul has changed
And my heart, and my heart
That my life has changed, that this town had changed
And you had not
That the world has changed, don't you find it strange
That you just went ahead and carried on?
And here Randall gets a little angry. Henry remains the same no matter how much time has passed. It’s something of a mixture of anger that Henry had moved on without him before but refuses to move on now that Randall has left of his own accord
And Henry responds
Are we all just crows to you now?
Are we all just pulling you down?
You didn't put those bones in the ground
That Randall was the one leaving them.
Strawberry Wine
Layclaire!!! Hershel about Claire after her death. Getting over it
I said, "Love is fast asleep, " on a dirt road
With your head on my shoulder
It’s about the little things. The things they used to do together. The moments that made love real.
Strawberry wine, and all the time we used to have
Those things I miss, but know are never comin' back
and for when he sees Claire pass him by
No thing defines a man like love that makes him soft
And sentimental like a stranger in the park
For a few moments, I see you
and for the chorus. Right person, wrong time. Wrong place. Maybe in a different world
If I was empty space, and you were a formless
Shape, we'd fit
But love leaves little runway, and every time we run
Straight over it
Growing Sideways
Hershel and his habit of self destruction and riding on tea and late night research so he doesn’t have to process any of his trauma. Also could go for Des here
I'm still angry at my parents for what their parents did to them
But it's a start
hello Leon Bronev
But I ignore things, and I move sideways
Until I forget what I felt in the first place
At the end of the day I know there are worse ways
To stay alive
'Cause everyone's growing and everyone's healthy
I'm terrified that I might never have met me
Oh, if my engine works perfect on empty
I guess I'll drive
Halloween
MM era ranlay, could also work post Stansbury. Could also do layclaire. Hershel pov
I’ll let the lyrics do the explaining. Here’s the chorus
But the wreckage of you, I no longer reside in
And the bridges have long since been burned
The ash of the home that I started the fire in
It starts to return to the Earth
I'm leavin' this town and I'm changin' my address
I know that you'll come if you want
It's not Halloween, but the ghost you're dressed up as
Sure knows how to haunt, yeah, she knows how to haunt
and the verse
It's an ode to the hole that I found myself stuck in
The song for the grave that I dug
There's a murder of crows in the low light off Boston
And I see your face in each one
I'm losin' myself in the tiniest objects
I'm seein' my life on a screen
I'm hearin' your voice in a strange foreign language
If only I learned how to speak
Hershel blaming himself and being unable to move on
Still
Layclaire <3
Last lyric of verse and then the chorus
Stare up at a starless sky and you say
It’s like I’m still here with you
It’s like I’m still here with you
I don't, I don't, I don't wanna say goodbye
Literally the ending cutscene.
The View Between Villages
Hershel post MM. going home after THAT whole experience. Also could work with visiting Stansbury during college/later
Feel the rush of my blood
I'm seventeen again
I am not scared of death
I've got dreams again
and the last verse
Passed Alger Brook Road, I'm over the bridge
A minute from home but I feel so far from it
The death of my dog, the stretch of my skin
It's all washin' over me, I'm angry again
The things that I lost here, the people I knew
They got me surrounded for a mile or two
The car's in reverse, I'm grippin' the wheel
I'm back between villages and everything's still
Paul Revere
MM. just Hershel in MM.
It's typical, I fear
Folks just disappear
And when they ask me who I am
I'll say I'm not from around here
Dude. I could go on and on about this song because I have something planned for each lyric. It fits so well.
No Complaints
Hershel recovering post attack. Could also set it post UF
I saw the end, it looks just like the middle
Got a paper and pen and a page with no space
End is Claire’s death, middle could work for Randall or Claire’s first death. Paper and pen. Man literally journals.
In love with being noticed and afraid of being seen
But I can finally eat and I can fall asleep
It's fine, fine, fine
I think you guys see me vision. Vaguely gestures at Bill Hawks.
You’re Gonna Go Far
Henry and Angela seeing Randall out of Monte D’or.
Making quiet calculations where the fault lies
Heyyy
So, pack up your car, put a hand on your heart
Say whatever you feel, be wherever you are
We ain't angry at you, love
You're the greatest thing we've lost
Alt ending line is we’ll be waiting for you love.
I’m a firm believer that Randall doesn’t stay in Monte D’or post MM

So I had this idea a while ago, to do little reviews for all of Tim Meredith’s songs because I feel like there isn’t enough love out there for them. So last week I decided to just Do It. I finished (including the two new songs he just dropped yesterday) I have it here under a readmore, or if you would prefer, you can just read the gdoc here, I only did the songs that were listed on his bandcamp (which you should absolutely go to) even though there are a few extra early ones on his youtube. These were written in no particular order, basically whichever song I happened to click on next. Anyway, feel free to read and spread the word.
How to even describe Tim Meredith’s music. The way he can adapt to different styles and genres is honestly impressive. It’s probably got something to do with the improv background but it’s amazing how he can just … choose a style and write an incredible song for it. Everytime he drops a new song I am always impressed with what he has managed yet again.
Disclaimer: I don’t have any musical education except being friends with multiple musicians for many years in which only small amounts of information have managed to seep into my adhd addled brain. So I apologize for the lack of musically correct terminology, this is a work of appreciation, not technical prowess. Also lyrics are generally the last thing I hear, so I may mention them here and there, but they aren’t my main focus for this.
Always Here
I can’t quite express what it is about this song that I adore, but it absolutely has something to do with the deep rumble of the bass and the way it drives the song forward relentlessly. The effect on the vocals only adds to this. The fact that it goes minor definitely caters to my tastes specifically. The high tones that come in during the bridge have such a Bowie quality that is delightful and a perfect contrast to the rest of the song. (artwork: the mossy greenery adds such a vibe to the song)
Don’t Look to Me
This has been one of my favorites since it aired. The high vocals of the chorus, with the overlapping harmonies are beautifully done and how they are placed over each other makes me think of something being sung in a large hall or church, big and echoey. Additionally the offset of the lyrics “it’s what you chose” (and to a lesser degree “any other way”) makes it feel like you’re being surrounded, like its multiple people telling you this is what you chose, what you wanted. I adore how the vocals trail out with the music at the end. (artwork: the hot pink neon feels so right for the feeling, the tiles adding to the echo)
Sweaty (Near You)
I know this one was controversial at the release, but I honestly could not then, and still cannot understand why. People are honestly sleeping on this song and it makes no sense to me. It’s got a very sensual vibe without gendered lyrics. Sure “baby” is used, but if you don’t think baby could be used for any gender then that’s on you, not the song. The deep base with the sparse instrumentation with a fun noodly solo is just an excellent combination that works so incredibly well. (artwork: the b&w photo with dark maroon text is a perfect combination)
Lucky Boy
When this song premiered my first thought was the entrance song for a villain in a movie. I could see it so clearly in my head. It’s got drive, and movement, and attitude the way it kicks up into high gear into the chorus from the verse with that fuzz guitar. The incredible layers with all the different synth/organ sounds, paints such an image. Nevermind the vocals that fit so perfectly within all that. (artwork: The maneki-neko is such a perfect choice for this)
Numbers and Lights
This is another one I have difficulty describing quite what it is that I love about it. It’s rather lowkey all the way through and I rather enjoy the… almost the stops and starts, the way it gives pause before kicking back in, like the song needs to take a breath before moving on. Again, pretty sure this one turns minor in a way that caters directly to me. Small detail that really delights me is what sounds like the equivalent to crickets under the “Reid asks Reid tells”. (artwork: gotta love biflag color rep. always a plus)
Limb Controller
This song features Amy and was an early favorite of mine. It feels like a song that could and should be played at a disco, just making me want to dance. The synths are perfect and I love how they gain intensity in the bridge before coming back down for the verse. The contrast between Amy’s higher vocals to Tim’s rougher growly ones is a perfect combination. I’ve always loved the “I’ve already let him in, a puppet on his string” moment. (artwork: when videos were still being made, love the scifi vibes)
Never Loved
Another song that is a bit more lowkey, but still comes through with excellent vibes. This one is really all about the syncopation especially with the drums. Which includes the panning back and forth during certain portions, but especially during the time change. I also really love the effects on the vocals. The occasional splashes of a high stringed instrument, and the crash of a forward cymbal really just add to the atmosphere of the song. (arwork: something about being called never loved with what looks like kintsugi just kinda Hits)
Love Your Mind
The repeating pattern throughout this song is just So Good, I love everything about it, and then how other patterns build on top of it? Impeccable. There are so many layers but it's never too much or loses track of itself, never feels over complicated or discordant. I always end up tapping along to the pattern, sometimes difficult to choose which one to follow. This song is shorter, but never fails to make me smile. (artwork: love the chandelier with the many intricate patterns, feels like it matches the song perfectly in that way)
On Your Terms
Oh that bass line. *chef kiss* Absolutely the backbone of the song, helps create the perfect atmosphere for that distorted guitar. Tim always puts a lot into the vocals, but here it feels like there is a extra level of emotion that feels raw. The way the note is held for “on your terms” just kind of kicks me in the chest every time. (artwork: love that the fire is the only color)
Some Thoughts After Consideration
This song truly resonates with me on a molecular level. I have been working in retail for going on 18 years and I just feel this song in the depths of my soul. Something about the wobbly synths and strong beat with the soft vocals are just perfect. The transition to what almost feels like a … big musical number in a theatrical show for the chorus. Like I can just see big spot lights turning on the stage. Perfection. (artwork: can’t go wrong with a squawking seagull, theme on point)
Falling Away
This is another one of my favorites. It’s so soft and gentle, lilting piano blending so perfectly with the vocals, which build up in intensity for the chorus so beautifully. Again, I think this one turns minor key, though I’m not as sure about it as I am with the others. I don’t have a lot of words for this one, but it’s lovely in its simplicity. (artwork: always loved this one for no reason I can really define)
Regret Me Not
I love how this song starts off sounding like something like a medieval march. The most prominent thing about this song is of course those incredible harmonies all throughout. The whole initial build up, and how it switches halfway through is just incredible. There is so much depth in this short song. I don’t always pay attention to lyrics, but when I did look at them I was surprised and delighted by how uplifting they are. (artwork: another older one with a video. I am a sucker for nature anything, and this just being a series of nature shots particularly appealed to me)
Pacesetter
The deep rumbly bass paired with the panning distorted vocals is just an incredible driving force. This song has the kind of beat that will just go on forever. If it were a predator it would be a komodo dragon just relentlessly following behind, never losing sight, always there stalking forward. (artwork: the starting line for a racetrack is an excellent choice)
The Aftermath
This was another early favorite of mine. The mandolin is the star of this song, but it is surrounded by a wonderful arrangement that allows it to be so. The gentle piano with the soft vocals, the shakers and woodblocks all come together beautifully. I always adored the extended pause about ⅔ of the way through. (artwork: this is my favorite video, and I’m sure it took a lot of work to match all the timing so well. The way it ends with the snuffing of the candle 10/10 no notes)
Arcadia
The light bouncy acoustic guitar is so catchy paired with the light and airy vocals, just makes for a lovely song all around. Truly impressive that so much can be expressed with so few instruments. I always find myself nodding my head along to this one. (artwork: makes me think of marshmallow and then want something sweet, but then I remember it’s a rock face and then that makes me want to climb it. Too bad it wasn’t a marshmallow clifface)
Deep Air
This is one of those songs that I love because it’s so out of the usual wheelhouse. It’s chill and wonderfully lowkey, and truly does make you feel like you are just floating around in space. The NASA audio certainly only adds to that vibe. Even with all that I do really love how it still slowly builds towards a big end. (artwork: excellent space vibes, love it)
A Horrid Angry Goose
I remember the goose game stream quite fondly, and this song in response to that was an absolute delight. It’s a fun and funny song, but it also has genuinely fantastic harmonies, and a strong baseline. The build up in each verse into the chorus is just so good. I love how it tells the story of the game, but in such a delightful way. This song is a guaranteed mood boost and I’m so glad for it. (artwork: Goosey perfection)
What It Says About Me
Adore the intro to this, the panning on the string instrument is perfect, and then when the beat drops and everything just drives on. Again, the way the vocals harmonize is impeccable. Truly impressive. Also adore the almost call and response at about halfway through. (artwork: something about the rusted half visible ship feels sad, though I suppose it’s apt for the song)
Unremarkable Sin
The alternating rhythms for this are just so incredibly good, the way it starts and the way it changes when the drums kick in, giving it a bit of swing that is just really great. I really love the gentle vocals for this as well, they fit between the instrumentation so perfectly. (artwork: i love the vague religious vibes, which somehow also translate into the music but in a not actually religious way)
What’s Due
Another one that just kicks ass right out the gate. The rising synths just gives this song such energy. The layered and overlapping synths and rhythms makes it feel like it’d fit right in at a bar or a scene in a movie (bar scene in a movie?) Again the pause about ⅔ the way through adds such drama and it’s absolutely perfect. The processing on the vocals is fantastic and the delivery only adds to the overall attitude of the song. (artwork: bull terriers are one of my favorite puppies and this one is SO cute, bonus points for bi pride colors)
Breaking
The bass line with the panning distorted guitar is such a good combination. That plus the processing on the vocals, creates such a spacious atmosphere that feels melancholy (Though I suppose the lyrics probably add to that feelings). (artwork: love a good seascape, big fan of corals and anemones, and adds to the vibe of having already “fallen”)
An Imagined Sense
Another song that just makes me want to dance, The way this one goes from just a decent beat to kicking into high gear is so good. Again with the excellent doubled vocals/extreme delay just creating such a great balance with the synths. (artwork: the video for this is extremely hypnotizing and feels like you’re being sucked into the song, which feel right)
Walk Away
The really distorted bass paired with the really light piano synth and gentle cymbals is just a really excellent combination. I really love the repetition for the chorus, plus of course the lovely harmonies make for a really lovely chill song. (artwork: Always been a fan of viewing through an opening, but the broken down interior out into the green outdoors is very pleasing.)
Exquisitely Bad
The groove that is set as soon as the song starts is just impeccable. And that groove just doesn’t stop. I love the contrast of that deeper bass with the higher synths that alternate between ears. Something about how the vocals jump up during with the chord progression is delightful. Really just a killer song. (artwork: love the dilapidated house with green font, fit right in with the Halloween premiere)
Horny for Greece
I know this started as a song from stream, but it is genuinely a fantastic song. That funky piano that gives Stevie Wonder Vibes, the niche but perfect rhymes with excellent vocals, the syncopated drums. All just add up to great vibes. (artwork: having the title cut diagonal over the broken section of sculpture is perfection)
The Eventual
Always a sucker for a song with handclaps. Mixed with the woodwind and the harmonica creates such an interesting atmosphere. There is something about the double beat on the drums that I really enjoy. I also love the strong distortion on the vocals, really pulls the room together. (artwork: took me ages to realize the picture was flipped upside down, that being said, it’s still very visually interesting)
Wretched
The slow build with the offset synths that make almost a round, the drums start and stopping before they fade and the beat truly starts is just so good. It creates such tension. I love how the synths create almost waves throughout the song, pulling it along. I also adore the effects on the vocals, just fits so perfectly with the soundscape of the rest of the song. (artwork: it took me a little bit to realize what I had been looking at, but the textures are so good. Fits with the vibes)
More Time
The hard fuzz guitar is such a strong start for this song, paired with the very rock drums is just perfect. Just has excellent classic rock vibes. I really love the depth of emotion felt in the vocals, and the low doubled vocal is a perfect extra layer you sometimes don’t even realize is there adding to it. (artwork: not sure how or why, but the fire seems to just fit perfectly for this)
Can’t Happen Here
I absolutely love the piano intro for this, it really sets the whole mood. I absolutely love the vocals for this song. The almost call and response, the harmonies, just *chef kiss* fantastic. I also really love the fuzz guitar when it kicks in. Ramps the song to a whole other level. (artwork: love the roiling clouds for this one. Yet again, fits the mood perfectly.)
Kennecott
I desperately love the percussion in this song, both the unusual patterns and the sounds used. It creates such a cool landscape for the song. And the interest doesn’t end there. The part where the sound pans quickly from left to right with the rhythm is just so incredibly good. This song is just an experience from start to finish. (artwork: I never quite figured out what this one was, an aerial shot? of the beach? My brain always just made it out to be an abstract painting but I am currently realizing that is incorrect. Still fits the vibe though, feels scattershot like the song.)
On Notice
(sidenote: I have barely listened to this one, because I tend to listen to my youtube playlist, and I found while making this that this song is only on bandcamp, so I haven’t listened to this one nearly as much as most of the others despite it being released about a year ago)
The sheer amount of Radiohead Vibes for this is absolutely incredible, and as someone who absolutely adores Radiohead, I love it. I love how the vocals come in and out, I love the almost droning instruments in the background. Additionally, on the delay on the vocals is fantastic, and I love the pause like ⅔ the way through. Excellent. (artwork: Love the b&w, looks like black marble. Great look.)
Better from Further Away
I love the simple clean (upright?) bass in the opening, with the soft drums. Again, I am a sucker for harmonies and I love them on the chorus. The juxtaposition of the very chill relaxed song, to the somewhat ridiculous (read: amazing) lyrics is very good. (artwork: Love this video, especially the close up zoom on the sheep when they are mentioned.)
Friend of Mine
I love how gentle and soft this whole song is. The piano and soft drums working so well together with the gentle lyrics. I really love it when the piano kind of goes into double time. (artwork: Love a good red sunset. Excellent.)
In The Dark
I love how this starts out with what feels like very 80’s movie synths, and then just shifts into a very chill song. Not sure why but it does give very 80’s Jim Henson vibes. Like I feel this should be in the Dark Crystal or Labyrinth or something. Maybe it’s the lovely harmonies that I can see being sung by small fuzzy puppets. Also I absolutely adore the horns throughout. Perfect 10/10. (artwork: I think 3 puppets should in fact pop out of the three holes to sing those harmonies.)
Now We’ll Never Know
This song is so very pretty. The simple bass and ringing guitar along with the gentle vocals. Yet again, the harmonies on the “oohs” are beautiful and I love them, especially paired with that gently picked guitar. (artwork: love a good dilapidated staircase. The green lettering is a perfect match.)

happy 1 year anniversary to one of the best summer albums out there that ive ever known. thank you temples for creating exotico
to properly celebrate such a joyful occasion, i have decided to rank songs of the album from my least to most favorite with a tiny bit of absolutely useless commentary. lets get to it
16. Meet Your Maker.
i dont get this song. sorry!!! no fucking idea where they were going with the instrumental... its super strange. the ONLY skip on the album for me.
15. Giallo
it's okay honestly. well its fine, but nothing more than that for me. I dont exactly dislike it, chorus is just kind of strange. but in general it's not bad! just not something i feel anything in particular for.
14. Time is a Light
they tried something else with this one, but i am not sure w h a t were they going for exactly. chorus feels like an echo of gamma rays, but the rest is... well. but i do really like gamma rays so its not that bad. feels a little too long tho. what's up with the last minute feeling so... um, can this be over already?
13. Oval Stones
we're getting to the good ones!!!!! oval stones is really pleasant. i like how chill it is compared to most of the album.
12. Slow Days
again the chill one. actually i find it weird that its not the closer of the album. it would be a perfect closer! listening to it really slows you down (not in a bad way) so its strange to have oval stones + slow days followed by crystal hall. im not crazy about albums doing that, kind of throwing you off the rhythm... my perfect album order would be sorted in the way that wakes you up, and then calms you down by the end.
11. Head in the Clouds
okay, i do understand why it's after crystal hall - obvious interpolation going on there, down to the very same lyrics ("can you feel it coming down?") and i do LOVE preludes, interludes, whatever, transition tracks in albums, that is GREAT. but my issue is once again with the slow, slow, fast, slow pace again. if not slow days, i think that would also be the perfect closer.
10. Inner Space
i don't really have anything to say about this one. its good! i like it a lot! but for some reason, despite being like, in a bit of a calmer tempo, it makes me a little bit anxious. not in a bad way exactly, its just a good song for when im troubled about something.
9. Movements of Time
THIS SHOULDVE BEEN THE OPENING TRACK!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!! its literally the PERFECT opening track for this album. its SETS UP the mood. HOW IS IT A CLOSER???? and i love the ... organ sound that they have going on in this one?? its really cool.
8. Crystal Hall
oh ohhhhh this is where it starts getting really hard to rank them.... Crystal hall is really good but also really short!!! why is it so short? under 3 minutes???
7. Gamma Rays
yeah i understand why this is the most popular. i mean i dont think its the best, but yeahhhhh.... its so good. literally perfect for "soaking up the rays"!!!!
6. Cicada
a big fan of so much reverb in this one. it especially makes the album so... summer specific, reverb is so summery! maybe because of how it makes everything sound like a song played on an open air music festival.
5. Liquid Air
if it couldn't be movements of time, i understand why liquid air made it as the opener. theres the anxious vibe going on again - which i do really like, in general im enjoying the theme of this album although im not really the lyrics kind of guy. and this one, its strange because its almost 6 minutes long, but it doesnt feel too long. or repetitive.
4. Fading Actor
ouuughhhhh this one is one of my absolute faves. it actually grew on me SO much, because at first i didnt pay any attention to it. but once i got it, it hit me sooooo hard, it remained on repeat for like MONTHS after summer ended.
3/2. Exotico + Sultry Air
i cannot i CANNOT judge them separately. in my heart they come together as one. and yet, they are two different tracks, which makes me love them even more. im really obsessed with the way it is composed, just absolutely amazing. the BRIDGE is especially the reason why i adore it so much. its SO good. and then theres sultry air!!!!! its the PERFECT postlude, like literally i think my favorite postlude in any album ever. like end credits to a movie. no notes!!!!!!
1. Afterlife
yeahhhhhhhhhh the only reason i even gave the album i listen in the first place. love at first sight!!!!!!!!! absolutely stunning. love the tension building up followed by the amazing bass... and okay i do have issues with the order of this album, but i do get why they put it by the end - its a truly perfect payoff even for the weaker parts of the album. best listened to on full volume... once had the joy of listening to it on a real good quality professional speaker set and my god. its like its MEANT to be blasted from the roof of a building. god i hate the fact that its produced by sean ono lennon. it had no right to be this fucking good.

bad omens: concrete jungle [the ost] liveblog
whoop whoop I'm here we made it
C:\PROJECTS\CJOST\BEATDEATH: we got some noises? if I had more than half a braincell right now I might have tried to decipher it
v.a.n (w/ poppy): single. love the ambience in the verse, gives sci-fi/superhero specifically dark knight vibes. poppy's vocals, particularly the roboticness of them, fit very well, especially with the knowledge that this is a "character-focussed" song. idc what everyone else says this bangs
the drain (w/ health, swarm): single. industrial vibe, not the biggest fan of the guy's vocals but it does fit the mood. low-key wasn't expecting noah to start singing? tdopom vocal sample, nice touch. I quite like the intensity of the instrumental behind the whinyish vocals in the verse. outro is. ominous.
terms & conditions (w/ bob vylan): vibes. anti capitalist vibes. can you hear me through the white noise? yo the lyrical content in this? they really went there? I gotta check out this band
hedonist (recharged) (w/ wargasm): I haven't heard much wargasm but it checks out so far. drumming stands out on this one. god the breakdown starts stops gave me a heart attack. this is like if hedonist was a wargasm song basically
even: it's light? his vocals are quite nice here, ethereal. checked the credits and michael taylor is the only one other than noah credited and I can hear some chief influence in the vocal style. I'm not sure what the genre/style here is exactly but I vibe with it
loading screen: nick ruffilo song. nice soundscape with the synths and drums. really vibe with this. it sounds bright like a shopping centre at night but without the bad vibes. I want to live here
anything > human (w/ erra): most excited for this. that intro riff is!!! the glitchy effect on jesse's voice? is noah singing lower? is that jt? this second chorus is gooood. IS THERE ANYTHING MORE THAN HUMAN? BREAKDOWN!!! it's weird because it's quite obviously more a bad omens song than an erra song but it is very cure era erra at the same time? (dan braunstein I see you) but also it's like an undefined erra song? it's still Jesse Cash Guitar Work but ? bad omens ambience? bad omens production? bad omens structure, even? good old fashioned heavy song.
digital footprint: uhh this is 4 and half mins long? there's a breathing exhale sample on repeat. not vibing tbh.
nervous system (w/ iris.exe): production is great. oh the guitars kicking in! her voice is nice. this song is danceable. I'd listen to it more as a vibe/background noise than a focus song
C:\PROJECTS\CJOST\FINDPEACE: more noises
artificial suicide (unzipped) (w/ thousand below): it's fast. drumming is different?
the grey (unzipped) (w/ thousand below): it's pitched. the lower harmony is more pronounced. it's also faster. and the drumming is more pronounced. it's like a nightcore version? oh that instrumental bit! it scratches an itch actually.
the death of peace of mind (w/ we are fury): love this so far. beat drop at the chorus? loving this a lot. the choral effect on the second prechorus?
the death of peace of mind (w/ so wylie): single. a very different vibe to the other one, it's more direct to the original compared to the other one. it's also got less going on which is also quite effective. the bridge section is beautiful.
bad decisions (lofi) (w/ dahlia): definitely quieter. kinda sounds fundamentally the same but with a different lead vocalist. instrumental after the chorus changes. the whole machine trained voice is still not sold on me, the accent/voice has noticeable quirks from noah's voice on the original but it's still inconsistent and I find that uncanny. it is a vibe but again. not sold.
just pretend (credits) (w/ let's eat grandma, chief): oooh. not sure which of the girls is singing but she sounds good. has enough of a let's eat grandma flair in there. oh there's michael. their voices work well together. this sounds more let's eat grandma than chief tbh. sounds really good though. bridge filled with longing as it should be. I think noah may have rerecorded for the bridge the vocal pattern is a bit different. I love this
C:\PROJECTS\CJOST\CLEARMIND: more noises. there's definitely something to be deciphered
artificial suicide (live): cheering. it's got the intro monologue thing. mm that riff. better than studio. also it shows he's human with parts of the chorus.
like a villain (live): murder robot wife glados my beloved. jolly vocals! no band should ever sound this good live. this bridge sounds so good live, like you know something big is coming. (it's the breakdown). I love the falsetto on that last "hold on". outro riff?
the grey (live): my beloved.
what do you want from me? (live): zumba time (I'm literally in bed). mix is a lot clearer here than on the studio version thanks matt. does that chorus/main riff go lower in this live version then in the studio?
nowhere to go (live): that first verse stripped thing they do live is ethereal. folio is going off here (as always). I think the crowd need to be louder in this mix for the bridge
v.a.n (live) (w/ poppy): does not need to go this hard. noah's harmony in the verse with the vocal effect stands out straight away. that outro riff is so poignant here
the death of peace of mind (live): I haven't listened to this song in so long it goes so hard. intro sounds especially film soundtrack. is that saxophone (second chorus)? mm that breakdown.
just pretend (live): gonna sob I love this song I wrote a thoschei fic inspired by it. the crowd are living for this. those outro vocal bits! the crowd sounds are not going lol. emo acoustic alternate edition? help I might write that part two to that thoschei fic I had I mind 😭
this ended up a lot more developed than I thought it would
also go listen to cure by erra it bangs lol
k gnight

ERIKA DE CASIER - LUCKY
youtube
Yeah, she’s lucky, but is she a star?
[7.38]
Katherine St. Asaph: I too enjoy "Boy's a liar Pt. 2" and Des'ree's "You Gotta Be." [6]
Nortey Dowuona: Apparently, this samples both "Sailing" by Christopher Cross and "Can't Let Go" by Linda Király. It's also liquid drum and bass. Excuse me... *leaves blurb to listen underneath an oil drum, waits for 5 minutes before realizing it is empty, thinks of actually analyzing the song, remembers the 2nd line of the chorus, shrugs awkwardly, keeps listening* [8]
Ian Mathers: YouTube comments section absolutely undefeated: I scroll down and the first thing I see is "Love the Chistopher [sp] Cross vibe going." I do get where they're coming from (WhoSampled tells me it's Linda Király instead), but if I didn't like "Lucky" what a weirdly specific diss that could be. The song always seems to be a step away from going full depressive breakcore to me, and I mean that as a compliment. [8]
Hannah Jocelyn: "Can't Let Go" is a lost gem from the late 2000s: too sparse to stand among Darkchild's best productions (unless you're listening to the Radio Edit W/ Guitars [sic]), but Linda Király sings the fuck out of it. Elementary-school Hannah was obsessed with the song: melodrama perfect for a 4th grader grieving her first unrequited crush. I smiled big when I heard that piano show up in "Lucky", but I kept waiting for this song to explode the way "Can't Let Go" does in its chorus and it just... doesn't. Instead, it stays in a quiet register, de Casier not even phased by the breakbeats skittering around her. The production is excellent, even if I'm already getting a bit sick of the drum and bass revival, but there's no catharsis beneath the smooth synth pads and frenzied percussion. The actual song's sophistication is captivating in its own right, but the blunt force melodrama of the original is missed. [7]
Harlan Talib Ockey: Erika de Casier throws the entire kitchen at us on “Lucky.” Between the Linda Király sample, the stuttering drums, the bass hits, the synths, and the laughs, her vocals are often overpowered. There’s logic to contrasting the busy production with her serene vocal performance, and it does prove very effective when the waves break in the chorus. However, when every element is bouncing off the walls at once in a drum and bass-inflected surge, it’s easy to lose track of the main melodic line. [5]
Jacob Satter: de Casier's wrapped-in-velvet vocal style brings to mind pop stars who have found ways to repurpose their delicacy as stridency (Nelly Furtado), as a firm corset of gossamer support (Coco O), as an internal monologue set free (Cleo Sol), as coyly kitsch confessional (Clairo). de Casier checks a few of these boxes -- she seems content to hold the center, to be simply present in "Lucky's" swirl of juddering trap, SOPHIE-esque squeaks, and music-box nostalgia. Her patience and clarity elevate near-house muzak into something distinctly, warmly human. [7]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: Somehow even more gloriously energized than the singles off Sensational – the drums feel like hail falling on a sunny day, melting immediately on contact with the song's surface. Thanks to the great NewJeans convergence event we talked a lot last year about de Casier as a songwriter, but "Lucky" is a fine reintroduction to her power as a performer: that opening laugh, the way she says "Whoa," even the slight lift as she sings "lucky" for the second time on the chorus. It's all finesse, a highlight reel of perfectly struck moments that make the ordinary trappings of "Lucky" into something sublime. [8]
Dorian Sinclair: There's a tedious kind of social media post I'm sure we've all seen, where someone posts a lyric sheet from the '70s or '80s next to a modern one (I've most often seen it with Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)") to make some point about The Decline of Music Today. The lyrics for "Lucky" could make an appearance in one of those posts, but the song itself makes clear why the core argument the posts are making is nonsense. Sure, repeating the line "another night" 23 times in a 3 1/2-minute song looks lazy on paper, but in practice? Hearing de Casier's intonation changing, the piano shifting under her, the backing vocals slipping in and out of the mix? It's beautiful! And it's not beautiful in spite of the repetition of the lyrics, but because of them. "Lucky" is swoonily, overwhelmingly romantic, and getting that impact with such a deliberately restrictive set of tools takes a hell of a lot of skill. [8]
Isabel Cole: Retro vibes — not just the tinkling piano of the sample, but a particular unabashed sweetness in both content and melody that seems less in fashion than it once was — run through just the right amount of champagne-bubble glitchiness to make it feel up to date, but not in an ostentatious way. More love songs should draw attention to the erotic potential of being a good listener. [8]
Kayla Beardslee: “Lucky” is so delicate and conversational that at times you almost forget you’re listening to a song. Erika de Casier is one of few artists who can turn that into a good thing -- embraced by the glimmering piano line (even as it shifts focus away from the lyrics), she concentrates on feelings forming and drifting by like clouds in the sky so the rest of us don't have to, so that we can lay back instead and just feel. [8]
Will Adams: The liquid drum and bass revival of recent tends to have a winking cutesyness about it (see the de Casier-penned "Super Shy" as but one example). It's fun to listen to, but "Lucky" pushes beyond that to reveal something darker. The arrangement is in standard skitter mode with twinkling pianos, but throughout are throbbing beat rolls, glitches, and haunting exhalations, as if the song is threatening to crumble at any moment. Even the outro -- an emotional tug of war between repeated lines "another night" and "too fast" -- forgoes a standard fade out in favor of increased distortion and tactile whispers. Behind the timid smile, a more raw emotion bubbles up to the surface. [8]
Leah Isobel: Last year, I ended a friendship that I'd had for almost a decade. I had always known it would happen one way or another: either by the slow drift that accompanies physical or emotional distance, or by sharper, more sudden means. I chose the latter option, releasing myself from what would have been years of confused and angry longing. I'm proud of that choice. Yet, I still reminisce about what I thought our relationship was, and who I thought we both were -- to each other, to ourselves. The intensity of feeling that characterized my experience of the relationship made me feel fragile, girlish. Of course it wasn't sustainable. But it was thrilling to see how long we could sustain it; how much I could take from them while minimizing myself; how much I could give to them without them asking for any of it. How many times we could go out together, dancing, drinking, smoking, laughing on the street. On "Lucky," Erika repeats "Another night" over and over and over, each repetition surprising for the sheer fact of its existence. It's not about what's in the future, but the shock of the present staying present: day after day morphing into a zoetroped sequence of images, cycling but not moving, time itself standing still due to the horrible electricity of one-sided love. [7]
Joshua Minsoo Kim: A lot of people in my close friend group shit on Erika de Casier, constantly pointing out that she’s a mediocre singer with unimaginative toplines. And yes, they were not slow to mention that this sounds like Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be” over a skittering beat that wouldn’t even turn heads a couple decades ago. But even though I can recognize their disdain, what keeps me coming back to de Casier’s work is the way her productions are integral to the emotional trajectory of her lyrics. You don’t understand this song without hearing that cackle and those sci-fi synths, which capture the anxiety and blissed-out possibilities of lasting romance. Indeed, this is the same artist who wrote NewJeans’ “Super Shy,” eager to define the complexities of a crush with a polysemic phrase. “I need ya another night” is repeated so often that it becomes a musical Rorschach test. Is it sweet and honest? Too forward and desperate? A sign of confidence? Of insecurity? Love will make your head spin, making you feel like all these things could be true. [8]
