People in the Cronus v. Vriska debate will also completely ignore that Cronus. Really wants to kill people. He just says that. No obfuscation included.

He doesn’t even have any excuse for it. Vriska killing people makes sense because she grew up on Alternia and had to feed her Lusus. Cronus just wants to kill people because he wants to do murder-eugenics and is really fucking mad murder-eugenics isn’t legal and does in fact have social consequences. Cronus just wants to kill disabled people for being disabled and not get in trouble for it. He explicitly says he wishes culling “meant what it should have” on Beforus.

Vriska was born and raised on Alternia, and that’s not her fault. It is, in fact, an entirely new level of fucking deranged to want Alternian laws to be real. Growing up in a system where killing people deemed below you is okay is different from wishing you lived in a system where killing people deemed below you is okay, because growing up there inherently means that that is already normal to you, while wishing that was the case inherently means it is not normal to you, you just want more harm to befall specific out groups (the lower class, the disabled, etc.) and to hurt more people in more violent ways.

People also love to casually ignore that Cronus is a grown adult. Like, sure, he’s 19, and 19 years old is pretty young in the grand scheme of things, but he is still a grown ass man who knows better. Him knowing better and simply not caring is literally a major part of his character. He is a grown ass man who can make his own legal decisions and live on his own. He can pay taxes. He could buy a house. He could invest in the stock market. In some countries, he can legally drink. He can drive. He can drink and drive. He can go die in the military. He’s grown. He’s a grown ass man. Vriska is 13. That is a child. Like, a CHILD child. Vriska is a middle school child. This is the difference between a middle schooler and a college student. Think of how mentally developed you were at 13. You weren’t even done with puberty yet. You’re not even done growing at that age. Cronus can fucking vote. He can go to adult prison. If you spotted a kid Vriska’s age out roaming the street with no guardian in sight, you’d probably be worried.

A major part of Cronus’s character is that he is a terrible person by choice, willingly, knowingly, and does not care. He is making a decision. Him being shitty and awful is a conscious choice he is making. He knows he is hurting people, and he knows what he is doing is terrible, and he does not care. Cronus knows that trying to bang children 6 years his junior is bad. He doesn’t care. He knows he is abusing Mituna, he calls it abuse, and he knows abuse is bad. He doesn’t care. He knows sex crimes are bad. He doesn’t care. He’s too entitled to care about anyone but himself and his own gratification.

Vriska is a 13 year old anti-hero who literally gets groomed and is shown to only be Like That because she is extremely traumatized and her experience of living on Alternia has made it so her guard is up 24/7. She literally cannot put the metaphorical swords down. She thinks it’s the only thing keeping her alive.

Cronus does not have an excuse.

That is, like… The Point.

The point is that he sucks and is irredeemable. He doesn’t have a single quality that makes standing around him worthwhile. He’s a relentless, unapologetic abuser. He just doesn’t care. He’s the most entitled man to ever live. He sees people as punching bags and sex toys, and any time this notion is rejected or faces even the slightest pushback, he freaks the fuck out about it.

And the point with Vriska is that she is complicated, and a child. A really, really traumatized, really, really scared child.

I don’t know, I think there’s a party here that is objectively worse.

… And - hear me out! - I think… I think it’s the adult sex predator… And not the child.

The Great BNHA Review: We Live in a Society

The world of fiction! The place where everything in the story happens. So when you're worldbuilding there are many things to take into consideration to make the world of your story feel alive.

From the people that inhabits it, the cities, towns, villages, and locations the characters live in. And even having a set of rules to follow to avoid plot holes and help the world they live in make sense.

Much like how despite technology being more advanced compared to real life, yet still not being able to have flying cars or advanced robots. Those kind of things can sometimes break immersion in the story, and as a writer you would want to avoid that as much as possible.

HOWEVER! The world BNHA takes place in doesn't make a lick of sense when you think about it for more than thirty seconds, and the foundation of the world breaks the more you think about it.

Case in point, UA!

I think at this point we all can agree that UA wasn't an actual school and instead a glorified boot camp to train child soldiers to fight. And for a series called MY HERO ACADEMIA!! There's hardly any academia in it at all.

Apparently Hori didn't wanna bother with that part of the series and being forced to write "boring" scenes and just get back to the exciting battles. Like where're the scenes of the class studying for their latest tests? Where're the scenes of the kids doing their favorite activities? Where're the scenes of them bonding with their superiors?

WHERE'S THE FUCKING ACADEMIA PART OF THIS GOD FORSAKEN SERIES!?!?!

You can't just name it My Hero Academia and only give us 20% of what the show is called! It just feels like false advertising at this point!

Also about the whole child soldier thing? Yeah let's go deeper into that.

Why are we relying on TEENAGERS to fight in these big battles and save the world when they've only been in hero school for a single year? That's literally like forcing teenagers to discover a cure of a disease when they've only taken a year of biology class!

And yeah, I get it, it's an anime so it's expecting you to suspend your disbelief, and they already had experience with fighting villains before so it would make sense to recruit them. But again, these are fucking teenagers and we shouldn't be relying on them to fight battles the adults should be able to handle!

This is one of the biggest problems of having your story take place in a world similar to modern real life, because here adults actually gives a shit as to what children go through and knows it would be fucked up to send them to fight in war! And the excuse of it taking place in Japan and thus how they do things is different compared to most countries is NOT GOING TO CUT IT!

These grown ass adults should KNOW bringing kids to fight in a war is fucked up and should NOT be encouraged! But since they're so desperate they choose to get them involved! The only exception to this is Rock Lock since he already knows this!

Okay, let's step away from the whole child soldier thing and focus on something the story never gave us introspection of... the fact that we never got to see how quirkless people are really treated.

It's explained that 20% of the population is quirkless, so almost a quarter are born without it. And from what we saw of Izuku's life with it, discrimination must be a common thing in their society. So it would make sense to explore that since it's tied to the main character's backstory and how he's going to make things better for others like him.

... Except that's not how it goes.

We never get to see how the life of a quirkless person is like, we never get to canonically see Izuku interacting with someone like him with the only exception being Melissa. But the thing about her is that she grew up on an island and her father a respected scientist, so it's kind of difficult to tell how the quirkless life is like if this is the only example we get... and it's not a good one.

But wait! There is a canon major character that was also quirkless like Izuku! And it's Yuga Aoyama. And how did the story treated him?

Oh it was revealed real late into the story with no awareness and treated him like shit for being an unwilling traitor, then replace him with Shinsou who whined and complained his way into the Hero Course.

Uhh, what the fuck?

And the worst part about all this is that Izuku has no reaction or acknowledgement whatsoever! He doesn't sympathize or feel less alone, he doesn't comment or say anything about this! So it's like what's even the point!?

Oh don't worry, we'll come back to this whole Izuku not acknowledging his past later in the review! But there's one more thing I wanna talk about in this world.

Is how blatantly biased society is to the Heroics occupation.

From what we've seen and learned, people are not allowed to use their quirks in public. And that the only way would be able to legally use them is to have a provisional license... which is only obtained if you're training to be a hero.

Uhh, but what if you don't wanna go into heroics? What if there is a person who wants to be a comedian? A layer? A construction worker? What if they have quirks that they think would help them in their jobs? Would they get in trouble if they tried using their quirks on the job? Is the Provisional License exam the only way to be able to use your quirk freely? Is there another test people can take to get one if they don't want to go into heroics?

Yeah you see what I'm trying to say here?

Since Hori's so focused on getting to the next big battle that he barely thinks about the world BNHA takes place in and leaves holes in the process. The world of BNHA feels more like a dystopia where heroics is all that matters and that anything else is boring and not as interesting. And since the world itself is so flawed, that I don't feel immersed into it at all and all I have are these questions on how things are run.

So in the next part, we'll be taking a look into the themes and messages the story tries to tell it's readers... but oh boy, did it really fumble with it's messages.

“Who was that Eds?”

“Mind your business, shithead” Eddie pocketed his phone, he recognised the number the moment it flashed up on his work phone, a device he always had on him regardless of where he was, he could be at a FUNERAL, and he’d have that phone on him.

In this instance however, it was merely a family dinner. Well… family and the Henderson’s, so yeah. Family. He’d excused himself upstairs and answered as soon as he was out of earshot.

Evidently, he’d been followed.

“I heard you say you loved them… are you seeing someone?” Eddie tried really hard to not be insulted by his tone, a weird mixture of disturbed amazement, with just a dash of disbelief for flavour. Was it that much of a stretch to see him dating someone?

Was it that unbelievable to the person he’d practically grown up with, that he could find someone who’d like him?

Maybe it was. Didn’t mean he had to like it; his job had kept him away from actually… dating anyone.

“Maybe I am, again, mind your damn business.” Of course they didn’t know what he was, what he did to earn his money, he’d spun some lie years ago about an online business because ‘rockstar’ had to… actually have evidence, he had an actual legitimate website to keep the lie going, nothing ever really went through it, but… it worked to keep the questions at bay.

Nobody asked, and he didn’t tell, he was a grown ass adult, he didn’t NEED to tell anyone.

Dustin sighed, shoulders slumping in defeat, good… he’d have never gotten anything out of him anyway “fine, fine don’t tell me… don’t tell meee, your only brother.”

“We’re not even relat—”

“The best man at your future wedding.”

“Since when was I getting marri—”

“The Wan Kenobi to your Obi.”

“I am happy for you though, the both of you! I hope you’ll bring him home someday, I’m sure we’d all like to meet him” Eddie’s eyes widened… he’d never… fuck … he’d never said anyth— “What, you think you’re all crafty? C’mon Eddie, you can’t even sit normally.”

“The fuck has that got to do with anything?!”

“Y’know… gay people… they can’t sit properly… in chairs…? Is that wrong?” at least that proved that Dustin could be uncertain about some things.

“You’ve been on that stupid app again, haven’t you?” He had the decency to look guilty at the very least. “The fuck have I told you?”

“It’s dumb and addictive and I should stop, BUT IT’S HELPING ME LEARN!”

“It’s filling your head with bullshit! Fine, I’m gay, what the fuck ever. Go back downstairs for the love of all that is holy, and just give me a minute to process that you’ve been theorising my sexuality based on how I sit, and don’t you DARE tell anyone.”

“Oh, c’mon Eddie! You’re old enough to come out now, you have your own place, your own business! Plus, we all love you, no judgement here, this is a judgy free zone.”

“I will rip out your larynx and shove it up your ass if you even THINK of telling them.”

“But… how will you know if i’m thi—okay I won’t say anything, i wouldn't say anything. Not my place.” Eddie had levelled him with a look, a single, rage squint look, a look which promised imminent pain if he did not take his nosy ass and remove it from his presence, and he’d accepted that look for what it was. A promise.

Not just a threat.

“I’m gonna have to go early, my… my boyfriend, will be home tonight, the ridiculous idiot never has food in so I’m gonna go sort that out.”

“You’re buying his food for him? Eddie… that’s… he’s not just using you for money is he cause that’s really bad.”

“No dumbass, he’ll give it me back.”

“Right away?”

“YES, right away.”

“Not just promises he doesn’t intend to keep?”

“Dustin, I will brutally murder each and every one of your characters in graphic detail within five minutes of every campaign for the next year if you do not—”

“Okay!” Hands up in surrender, Dustin took a step backwards, a threat to his precious characters was no laughing matter, even if Eddie would struggle to make that kind of threat happen, the risk was there! He still had to ask “is… is he good though?” Of course, Eddie could threaten all he liked.

Dustin was his little brother, or as good as! It was his job to be insufferable.

The question however, made him think, he could pick any of them, any one of his clients to mould this imaginary boyfriend from, maybe mix and match, bring him to life from attributes of all of them, that’d be fine right? Nobody but Dustin really knew he was dating so… he wouldn’t be introducing them to him.

Perfectly coiffed brown hair… a warm smile… big, strong hands, a constellation of pretty moles dotted in places Eddie knew far too well. There was no amalgamation of faces, no mixture of personalities to make the perfect one, just a soft smile, warm hands, broad shoulders, muscle, and perfectly soft, thick brown hair… his favourite.

“Yeah… he’s… he’s great, Dustin… you’d like him” big strong softie he was, and it was so easy falling into the role of his boyfriend too, he’d been paying for that package for what felt like forever, he felt like he knew the man inside and out, like the back of his own hand.

He was the only one to have paid for that package continuously for over more than a few months, even Hagan only paid for it every now and then, never continuously. He thought Steve would have gotten tired of him by now but… It’d been two years.

Some people expected MARRIAGE after two years in a relationship.

Steve Harrington seemed to want him more and more by the day and the surprising thing, was that the thought didn’t invoke the same level of panic that he were SURE it would if anyone else were to have those wants, those needs of him.

He felt… comfortable with Steve, safe with him. Like he could show hints of himself, the real himself without the fear of losing him, of putting him off.

“You look so dopey smiling like that, y’know? You must really like him, huh?” He’d been smiling? Fuck… “Well… anyone who can make you smile like that just thinking about him is alright by me, I’ll cover for you, you can go sort his food out if you want.”

This was fine… totally completely fine. Would be better if Dustin could actually keep his mouth shut but alas. Dustin had a history of foot in mouthisms that'd gotten them into trouble after trouble after trouble years on the trot.

Eddie probably shouldn't have continued to tell him stuff, but that was his little brother so. He had to.

“Uh… yeah… yeah I like him. Thanks, I’ll… grab my coat, just tell em I feel sick or somethin so I’m goin home” he didn’t say goodbye, Dustin probably did that for him, just grabbed his coat and snuck out like he used to do as a teenager when he simply couldn’t be bothered dealing with his fathers drunk ranting about queers being put in cages.

He did have to come to one very unfortunate conclusion after that conversation though. After seeing Steve instead of a mishmash of faces, after being unable to put a random face to the title and spin it as truth.

Feelings were there. Real feelings. The mushy shit. The wants for more that he couldn’t have. The Pretty Woman syndrome without the corny and frankly rushed happy ending.

It couldn’t continue anymore, what he had with Steve had to end. Feelings… real feelings… he couldn’t have real feelings for his clients. It put his whole career on the line, his way of life gone in an instant all because his heart had to go all gooey for someone who probably didn’t even give a real fuck about him.

This was fine.

After the evening was done… he’d end it, terminate their contract. It was for the best. Steve deserved better than him anyway.

This is some dumb fucking shit. How can someone be this bad at their job, while sitting here smiling in my fucking face. "So, explain to me, umm, what was your name again?" Mika said, staring at the realtor with absolute disgust and annoyance. "Just Kim would be fine, sweetheart," he states, staring me up and down with a flirty expression. "Yea, that's amazing. I'm gonna call you bitch ass, you cool with that?" I stated watching his face completely drop. "So, since this very kind women can't talk to you like a fucking adult, I'm just gonna talk to you like the man child you mother obviously failed to raise. Now, would you be a dear and tell me how exactly does someone manages to sell a place to two different people with knowing. We obviously don't fucking look or sounds anything alike. Therefore, that rolls out that pathetic ass excuse. I should whoop your ass bitch-."

As I went to jump on him, the unknown woman that was standing next to me grabbed me. Holding me while apologizing, causing the man to immediately leave in fear. "OK ok you can stop now, Ms." I roughly back away from her casting her to put up her hands in the air as a showcase of surrender. "I know we are in a bit of a predicament here, but the papers have already been finalized. Plus, this place is more than big enough for the both of us, so we can just share it." I stared her down before laughing and shaking my head. "If you fuck up, I'll whoop your ass too."

And well, that's how me and bada met. At first, there was a bit of hostile energy, mainly from my side. I wasn't really sure about her, like I was judging her character before I let the real me out. Then, it all changed one night. She randomly got home from a long ass day of working, saying she needed some self-care immediately. I mean, true enough, I wasn't so sure about her yet, but I'm not a monster, and a girl in need is simply a girl in need. I sat her on the couch while we did face masks and painted each other's nails. She was a little on the rocky side about the nails, but I managed to talk or more so threaten her into it. After a while, we started talking about life. I learned she had a boyfriend named Howl, strange ass name.

"Wait so like when you two fuck, do you moan out howl or just government name. Because u fucking can't right now." I said laughing and hitting the coach, while bada sat there embarrassed and pushing me over. "I mean, I don't know. Like I don't really sit there and think about it." She says shyly. "What about you?" "Oo I don't do relationships, I mean, it's enough me to go around right. Plus, this pussy game is crazy, will have a motherfucker all obsessive and shit." She stares atcthe ground shocked. "Wow, are all Americans like this?" "Like what?"Just open and out there." I chuckle before adjusting myself on the seat. "To be honest, babes, I mean sex is sex. We are adults we should be able to talk about it freely. Plus, Korea is just really hush hush and polite about that stuff."

That night, Bada and i bonded. We became like sisters. Telling each other everything. I even met her man. They were a hot couple. I could see why they would go for each other. But that's pretty much all about Howl. we got to know each other to a certain degree. I mean, at the end of the day, girl code still exists, and it's something i truly ride and believe in, sisters over misters, you know. Like him and Bada would help pick out my outfits and stuff. Like right now. "So, what do you think?" I ask both of them as they are sitting on my bed eating snacks. "Don't you think they are a bit revealing?" Howl said while opening up another bag of the hot fries I had shipped here, while bada shoke her head, agreeing with him. "First of all, I'm a grown ass woman who is everything but insecure so I can show off. Secondly, shawty was fine in that pic she sent me, so she must wanna see all this. So, which one sluty sexy or sluty cute."

Each outfit was revealing yet gave a different vibe. I never questioned why Howl was protective over me, shit I thought he saw me as his little sister like Bada. Boy was I fucking wrong. I started showing then the messages between me and mystery women. She was a hot masc with a long wolf cut. And the entire conversation basically consists of us trying to have phone sex. But why sit in bed and play with myself when I can have her do it for me. "Wow, you two really are going to do this on the first date?" Bada asked while staring at me, looking slightly nervous, yet I couldn't understand why. To be honest, they both had been acting weird lately. They were like my best friends, so I wanted to know what was happening but didn't wanna drag it on. Maybe it's nothing. "Now you know I don't plan on dating that girl. Anyways, I'm sticking with sexy, so I'll be back and you two can do anything you horny fucks can thing of. Except fucking on my bed. Move it along weirdos." I tell them walking out the house.

"What the fuck, this shit is getting out of hand, Bada I thought we agreed to tell her?" Howl said angrily thinking about all the things Mika could be doing right now with that girl, she had been gone for hours. "I know, this is hard for me too. But we can't just tell her out of the blue. Hey, me and my boyfriend are totally in love with you, and I know you don't do relationships, but are you willing to date us, so we can finally call you ours and stop listening to you fuck other people." Bada stated basically yelling at him. "We just need to tell her this is bullshit-"

Before they could finish their conversation, they heard something slam against the door, startling them both. The sounds kept repeating as if someone was trying to get in, causing Howl to immediately grab Bada and place her behind him, thinking someone was trying to break into the apartment. "Are we being robbed?" Bada asks Howl in slight fear, but before he could defend them, both Mika comes crashing through the door, drunk as shit. With what seems to be her date. Both of them kissed and basically dry humping each other with clothes on, paying no mind to the people in the house. Mika moves her hand trying to lock the door before, the unknown woman grabs her neck shoves her knee into pussy, making sure to rub away all the tension. They both moan into each other's mouths and finally lock the door stumbling into her room, still without acknowledging her fellow roommate and boyfriend.

As they bedroom door abruptly closes shut, they are now finally out of the eye sight of Bada and Howl, who are seething in anger. "I thought you said they weren't gonna work out, jackass?" Bada whisper yelled at Howl, hitting him in the shoulder. Though he can't even find the time to register the pain before all they can hear is the sound of the bed creeks against the wall. "They shouldn't have, I mean, they don't have anything in common. What the fuck does she has that we don't?" "We are telling her tomorrow, I don't care what we have to do but she is gonna know. We can't go on like this. It's supposed to be the three of us, ok?" Howl says while grabbing Bada's cheeks, looking into her eyes for reassurance. She nods along.

"Y-yes... shit.... right there.... ughhh... fuck me...". Bada turns to looks at the door with a sour expression, "but let's go, I refuse to listen to this shit any longer. Not when we can obviously make her moan way louder then that." Howl just smiles for a moment and nods, "exactly baby let's not feed into negatively. She will be ours by tomorrow night."

But I don't want yall to think I'm one of those writers that's coming up with a new excuse every week, so I will try my best to work on it, babes. Hi i had a couple of thoughts about BTs and their shipping, which i posted on my own blog a while ago, but I'd like to throw out here for your thoughts -

BTs and T stans' love for BT seems to be based on a LOT of assumptions and unfounded headcanons, the primary one being that T's racism and sexism and his entire unpleasant personality is not really him, it's all a facade, a self-defence mechanism he developed in response to the discrimination and repression he's suffered, but now that sunshine Evan is in his life, he's going to learn to open up and love again and be vulnerable and transform back into his true self, a sweet kind gentle warm affectionate compassionate loving man who's perfect for Buck - basically they think he'll turn into Eddie (and they're already writing fics like that).

(and some of them think s8 Eddie will turn into T - a lackey and Yes Man for Gerrard)

I feel like the other misconception/assumption that BTs make, which leads them to imagine and root for endgame BT, is that caring about and validating and accommodating buck's feelings and reassuring him and affirming him when he's insecure and showing an interest in and enthusiasm for things he's excited about (you know, like Eddie does)-

Doing all that is actually infantilising him and is bad for him! and what he REALLY needs is someone who doesn't particularly go out of their way to make him feel safe and comfortable and heard and understood. It's time for buck to grow up and mature and get over himself! and T in all his cynical snide casually dismissive condescension is the perfect partner to do that!! This is an ADULT relationship (with lots of sex), as BTs like to say ad nauseum

I think the reason why the perception to Tommy's character is so divided is due to multiple things. First is Buck is bi! This is a great thing to be confirmed and a lots of people got so happy about it that they didn't really cared about Tommy (who is quite literally a plot device during that moment. Any male character could have replaced him and the scene would have stayed the same).

Second: many bt stans started to watch the show after the kiss and refused to go back and watch the rest of the show. Or they went back, but somehow missed the whole point of the Hen and Chimney Begins episodes. If you look into the tag for those episodes, it's filled with gifs about Tommy, raving about how good he looks and don't mention the fact that he was an asshole. There is also a mandela -effect happening and people are trying to make it seem like Tommy was actually in the background and did nothing wrong, when he was the most vocal in the whole group. Chimney Begins shows that Tommy was the one to start the racist comments. They're literally saying that Sal DeLuca (a guy who wasn't even in Chimney Begins and looked annoyed through the whole Hen Begins) was the one who acted like Tommy did in canon.

Third: Lou and his cameos. Not really talking about the fact that he kept raising the price to exploit the fans (though what were we expecting from a nepo baby, who posted pictures of himself lusting after women's asses to insta. Absolutely disgusting). He was the one who set the precedent when he called Tommy's behaviour teasing. He's the one who keeps coming up with tragic backstories to Tommy to excuse his behaviour. He was the one who lied multiple times on his cameos to make his character more relevant. He was the one who decided to fuel all the headcanons by confirming them as long as someone payed him 150+ dollars for a few minutes long video.

Also, I find the whole self-defense mechanism stupid. Tommy was a grown white man during Chimney and Hen Begins (he had to be 28 at the youngest during Chimney Begins for his military backstory to make sense). He could have protected himself by just staying in the background and not participating in the racism. He shown no sign of being uncomfortable with Gerrard's behaviour and the only time he looked annoyed was when Hen was giving her speech. It makes more sense that he just stopped saying bigoted things out loud because the captains after Gerrard were not tolerating it. There is a reason neither Hen or Chimney kept in touch with him after he left the 118. Chimney calling him once for assistance was for work reasons, and in s3 they both make very clear they don't keep in touch with anyone from the old 118.

All of their characterization of Tommy is only fanon. They totally disregard canon. In canon Tommy couldn't care less about Buck's feelings. He left Buck standing on the curb after he annoyed him (and I 100% believe Buck did nothing wrong, that was his first time on the date while being out) and somehow put the blame on Buck for it (which he tends to do a lot. He also blames the enviroment and Gerrard for his racism). Then he totally ignored Buck's planning of the bachelor party (how you show an interest in someone when you couldn't do the fucking minimum), made condescending comments (the henley comment). im actually so pissed with the recent elimination. grett was the only person left that actually was fucking interesting, and the only person left who deserved to win.

if jake wins the season im actually never watching the show again. not because i hate jake or anything like that, but because of the massive amount of plot armor both he and connor have, that for some reason, people claim riya has, when it’s so obviously jake and connor.

there are so many instances where obviously jake should have gone home, but the writers saved his ass AGAIN. he should have been gone instead of james, and instead of ashley, and instead of grett. it sucks they’re eliminating all of the characters whose development and stories were actually interesting to watch, and keeping jake in for another episode.

Today's shitty shipping hot take I have on is in the hyperfix that has a chokehold on me right now:

POKÉMON!!!

Now, we're gonna go off strong, so fair warning for spoilers, age gaps and all that nasty stuff.

The ship I have opinions on is Ferriswheelshipping (Hilda x N) and Isshushipping (Hilbert x N), and boy, do I have opinions on them!

Now, to discuss the Copperajah in the room, there's one MAJOR problem I have with these two ships, that's right: there's a huge-ass age gap!

"What's the age gap," you ask? Well, only 6 years. What makes it worse is that N is canonically 20 (stated by one of the devs in an interview) and Hilda/Hilbert are 14.

Now, I get it if the protags are age ambiguous, but the problem I have here is that most, if not all of the pokémon protags are MINORS, ranging from young tween and late teens. (The Kalosian protags look like young adults and are age ambiguous, so their ages are up for interpratation.) This problem comes up whenever a pokémon protag is shipped with someone who's literally an adult (again, age ambiguous, but my point still stands.)

The shipping archetype, to my knowledge is a rival-to-friends-to-lovers trope. Now, Rivals-to-Lovers isn't a bad shipping trope, but it should only be OK when A) the characters are both consenting adults and B) if not, are the same age at least.

N, in this case is the 'rival' to Hilda/Hilbert, the protagonists. N is an interesting case: he was an orphan, raised by pokémon and taken in by Ghetsis (asparagus man) to be indoctrinated and conditioned to be Team Plasma's King, being taught that humans are bad and they abuse pokémon.

The protags and N first meet early on in the game, and they meet several times in-game and they battle (in true rival fashion.) However, when they reach Nimbasa City, N invites the protags to ride the ferris wheel with him. The dialogue differs depending on the protag's gender, but the moment they had was intimate (not the dirty kind, get your mind out of the gutter), despite N inviting them there as a diversion for the Team Plasma grunts to escape.

Throughout the story, their bond gets stronger as friends and rivals, and it comes to a climax at the final battle. Post-battle, N realises how much he fucked up and how Ghetsis manipulated and pratically abused him for his own gain. N basically apologises and leaves with Reshiram/Zekrom to 'atone' and we never see him again until BW2, but Hilda/Hilbert are just gone by then.

So, in canon, essentially, N had trauma dumped the kids. They only have a rivals-to-friends dynamic, and to the fans, they ate it up and went apeshit. (N is hot, so I could sense a bit of self-projecting with the shipping with the protags, but I could be wrong-)

I get it that N has had an unorthodox upbringing and is autism-coded, but it doesn't excuse the fact that N is a grown-ass man. The only solutions I got to make it less worse is to either age Hilda/Hilbert up to adults (and not the bullshit "they're 18 on paper, but is still the same in everything else", like actually age them up), or shipping a self-insert or OC with N (Yumeshipping is cool, and there's nothing wrong with shipping an OC with a canon character as long as it's not problematic.)

I can only see them as close friends, as N sees Hilbert/Hilda as a 'special friend', considering that they had helped him realise his mistakes and how much of a shitty person Ghetsis actually is. (N should actually go see a fucking therapist, smh)

So, to sum it up, please pay attention to the character's ages if they're mentioned in canon, I'd rather not have my blorbo/husbando having to deal with the 'allegations' (/nsrs).

I'mma rate this ship a 1/10.

here to talk about shin from nana again i’m very attached to him like he means the world to me it’s so sad to me seeing what he has to deal with and what he has to go through knowing he’s a kid and he deserves more than the world has given him i will forever stand by that and the fact that at such a young age he had to resort to what he did to make money is so upsetting and don’t get me wrong i love nana, hachi, nobu, and yasu a lot but i also feel the adults in his life could’ve done more to teach him or care for him because he didn’t have any parents that would look after him or love him or treat him the way he deserved to be treated and in all honesty if i was them i would never allow him to do that i would take him in and pay for him to be able to live a comfortable life so he doesn’t have to resort to the things he does to have money and some of the comments he makes throughout the whole series makes me upset like him like him saying he wishes he was never born no one should ever have to think that especially a kid as sweet as shin and people can say otherwise but shin was always so sweet yes he did make those comments to nana but in a way that’s her own fault for saying what she said to shin she should’ve never said that to him i understand she was having a hard time so i can’t be too mad at her but this is another thing where she is a adult and he’s a child and he did absolutely nothing for her to say that or even excuse her for saying that and again i love nana so it’s not like i hate her for that and i’m not even exactly mad at her for that and then the comment he makes towards hachi about how he wishes he was born as her child like scenes like that just upset me because it truly shows he’s a kid who wants someone to love him and care for him as a mother or father would because if you remember his mother died not to long after he was born and his father didn’t care for him because he knew shin wasn’t his kid all he deserves is someone who loves and cares for him and will treat him the way he deserves and then don’t even get me started on reira i genuinely cannot stand her at all the fact she even went after a romantic relationship with shin is so wrong of her and so disgusting and i genuinely need her gone like six feet under i don’t care that she was lonely or anything there is nothing that could ever excuse her sleeping with a 15 year old she’s a freak and reira she used shin and in my eyes she took advantage of him because again he’s a 15 year old kid but she used him because she was lonely can couldn’t have the one person she wanted and no matter what it was for or consensual or not she should have never slept with a 15 year old she never should’ve crossed those lines as a adult she knew better and should’ve never went after that type of relationship with him because she’s a grown ass adult and he’s a child she knows better and kids his age and especially what he’s gone through can be easily manipulated i don’t know how their whole thing ends as i’m not finished yet i have two episodes but i genuinely need reira gone and away from shin forever and in the end i just want shin happy, loved, and cared for like he deserves his character means a lot to me and i wish i could give him the world my silly son

Hey it's bitching hour guy again, I'm gonna bitch again. So you know the team as family headcannon? Assign stereotypical nuclear family roles onto the mercs for easier funny moments or to show how close the mercs are. I'm so so so tired of it. Pyro and scout are the kids in the family, engie the dad, medic the tired mom, sniper the weird uncle you barely talk to, etc etc. 1st, infantilism to scout and pyro despite them being both grown ass murderers who happen to have mental issues (pyro outright seeing the word very differently and scouts immaturity plus possible other mental issues) and also because scout looks young even though he can legally drink and drive. A lot of people use it to excuse disliking a ship which is fine as long as you're not outright hating but also seeing "oh I just see them as family :)))))" on art tagged with the ship drives me up the wall. Also throwing the nuclear family roles onto the mercs often erases parts of their character, for example a lot of people forget how much of a dick engineer can be if he wants to because they only view him as 'polite southern dad'. Hell, the mercs do care about each other and they are kind of a found family but family doesn't need to have the nuclear tropes. Let scout and pyro be adults, look at engineers voice lines, and for the love of god play the game or touch some grass.

This may be a controversial opinion, but I feel like this fandoms habit of pathologizing the prisoners' behavior is rooted in ignorance.

To put it another way,

I feel like people's habit of associating mental health issues to the characters is a way of distancing them from their actions. I view this phenomenon as an extension of assigning a justification to their behavior, mannerisms, and past actions. That's grown to a point of being infantalizing and othering when it comes to discussions around mental health disgnoses as a whole.

Also, it's literally something Yamanaka learned not to do himself when it came to making Caligula Effect.

I'm not saying discussions around that can't be enjoyable. I'm stating that there's a difference between someone informed about these things discussing it and a bunch of armchair psychiatrists with Google pulling up a list of stereotypes and seeing which one matches. This goes for people who even have firsthand experience with the disorder themselves, creating a list of traits that they have and comparing that to the prisoners.

Because disorders are not a monolith.

They don't present in every single person the same way. I'm not saying people shouldn't theorize about these things or do that at all. Even though I'm being very forward about the things that turn me off from this behavior. I believe that whatever inspires people to educate themselves on these things further is great and deserves to be appreciated.

It's a great thing that Milgram has inspired so many people to look into psychology and mental health.

However, the fandom hits a snag at the same place Milgram as a series is trying to have viewers look at with more criticism. At our own egos. If thinking about mental health and diagnosis goes only as far as one's own personal agenda that will show clear as day. Regardless of how an individual tries to cover it up.

This is why I personally believe Yamanaka consistently points out that to be a good writer, one only needs a desire and interest in knowing other people.

Because to write different and unique characterizations, one has to look past their own ego and recognize what they write can't always be about them. Every story can't be the author trying to figure themselves out on a page. Yet just because it can't and shouldn't always be that- Does not diminish the value of those types of works. I just feel like people should take a moment to remember these things go far beyond one person's individual experiences or one concise article.

The way this fandom collectively has discussed some of these topics of interest (because at some point it's not even the diagnoses themselves anymore) has damaged how these things are viewed and spread egregious misinformation that further research would have ultimately disproven to the people presenting it as fact. No amount of a disclaimer can excuse spreading misinformation about already stigmatized mental health issues. A disclaimer helps, but no one is going to take that disclaimer at face value and then do their own research.

A lot of people have become increasingly comfortable with having others do the thinking and legwork for them. If one presents half-assed information, the audience will accept half-ass information. Milgram has an example of this phenomenon.

Given that a lot of people were quick to believe Es without fact checking when they said they were an adult in Haiti and Puerto Rico.

People took that at face value because it was presented to them in an easily consumable way by someone they trusted. That disclaimer isn't doing shit and probably everyone here knows it. Because when people become comfortable with others doing their thinking for them, they should become really comfortable with being lied to. Because they've already decided they're comfortable with playing the fool far before that lie will be told. If they fall for something while doing that well, that's the price of not pursuing knowledge for oneself.

Just because it's easier to reach doesn't make it better or correct.

If anyone was willing to educate themselves on these matters as much as my good faith is allowing me to believe instead of giving a cursory look at what they're discussing to cherrypick info to support the conclusion they already had that would be an amazing thing. That's what I hope is happening more times than not. I hope that individuals are just being hindered by the research process. Maybe they don't know where to start or don't have access to resources that could help them explore these concepts further.

I've had issues with that before, and at the end of the day, we're all just people. People who will get many things wrong over the course of our lives.

That shouldn't hinder anyone from seeking information past the point that knowledge can benefit them. It's fun to theorize about these things and relate the characters to ourselves more deeply. Media is meant to be a safe space for individuals to reflect on themselves and other difficult social issues through it. That is an important part of viewing media.

I'm not discouraging that.

Depending on how one goes about doing this, they can end up learning a lot. Something that is never a bad thing.

I really want to encourage and foster curiosity in psychiatry and mental issues. Because in the community that I grew up in, psychiatry was a highly undervalued and demonized field of study. However, when one is using something as tentative as a diagnosis to defend the things the prisoners have done, that's perpetuating harmful stereotypes around disorders in general.

Confirmation and recency bias both exist and are things professionals with years of experience and newbies alike fall victim to. Again, something that Yamanaka seemed to learn first hand through creating Caligula Effect. There isn't a solution to this outside of me stressing once again-

Do your own research.

Ask professionals if you can. Have discussion around these things with peers that you trust. Yet do yourself the service of investigating your own opinion.

Because if the the things the prisoners have done would be less excusable if many didn't think or know that they had these disorders- Then some people probably shouldn't have been voting them innocent and forgiving them in the first place. There are so many people in the world living with these things and traumas who don't murder people. It is ridiculous and infantalizing that it's been used as justification here. Please keep learning because the more a person knows about these things, the less excusable these characters' actions are going to be.

Ok now to those that might come across this and ask themselves what the hell does being parentified means, it's a broad term used for the phenomenon of (at best) a child sharing parental responsibilities due to x circumstance, or (at worst) downright having the parent/child dynamic completely swapped, with the child being the caretaker for the parent and household. But I will take on two instances that had stood up to me the most: emotional management and hiding secrets.

Excuses seems to come to Spencer like it's second nature- "sorry a tube on my apparment broke" "Oh I....I tripped!" "There was a lot of traffic so..." "I was watching an movie" and I am not am expert on USA's history or some shit, but Child Protection Services had been a thing since at least the 60s, so I don't think that a 10yo living alone with his mentally ill mother would have flown well- you get the idea.

And it's not only when it concern Diane btw, any problem whatsoever Spencer would rather lock himself up (literally lmao) that sit down and talk about it- it's only when his bs is exposed and he can't refutage (like that little scene after Gideon's death when Rossi asks him if he had been there all night- he points out the fact he is wearing the same cardigan as the day before) that he opens up....or he runs away, which leads me to the second big point that I think shows how much Parentification fucked him up:

Spencer has the emotional maturity of a teenager.

I talk about this literally all the time so I'll be shorter lmao basically Spencer... has an issue- ok he has lot of issues- and that is the way he dislikes direct confrontation, so whenever he is hurt or angry he would rather be dismissive and passive-agressive that talk it out with the person- even going as far as turning away and storming out of the room.

Now... I do think that a grown-ass man doing this shit is hilarious, like I love Spencer's bratty side so much lmao but it's an clear sign of someone that never learned how to deal with his emotions on a healthy way, someone that 6 out of 7 days of the week had to interiorize everything in and because of that holds on so much....resement, so much repressed anger but also without an stable force on his life to help him manage that- so we are left with an teenager trapped in an adult's body, loss at how to handle shit like he always did.
