I went trick-or-treating for the first time in my life today and finally got to fulfill my childhood dream of dressing up like an extra in a DEFA fairy tale movie :)

(not pictured: little kerchief for my head, crochet shawl because chilly, and a basket full of very normal, inconspicuous apples I was handing out to children. I made most things I wore)

Toon Zelda redesigns! I've never been fond of the Toon Zelda design, and these girls deserve some individuality. Design notes and rambles below the cut :D

(time to turn the proper grammar off i aint capitalizing all this. warning: i am verbose)

first up, tmc zelda!

shes the one most like toon zelda, since i felt like the vibes fit the *most* (though not a lot). also, with her place on the timeline, i could justify a lot of bits, like the wings and the cape

the cape! obvs it comes from the toon zelda base design, but also it involves skyloftian fashion! i take the timeline as a challenge, and i once saw a take somewhere that the skyloftians all wear their family crests (most often birds lol) on their person. zelda here (and link too) do just that, wearing their family crests on little caplets. on the back is, of course the royal crest

i went very cutesy princess for her. tmc has such a *whimsical* vibe that i feel is very. muted? by the fact its stuck with the toon style. so i wanted to put in that vibe here. also her sprites make it look like her skirt is super poofy, so how could i not?

curly hair: i wanted something interesting, and most zeldas have straight hair. so! adds to the cuteness

i didnt draw it so well but she (and link) both have very sleepy expressions. zelda especially just has a sleepy expression in her sprite, its quite adorable.

shes not as decked out as other princesses, cuz i see tmc taking place before the royal family really starts to get *royal* as we see it. shes still of course got a tiara and some embroidery tho.

Tetra! her base design isnt all that changed from the original. her name is a fun hc of mine tho. i think "von Hyrule" sounds better as a surname than just "hyrule". shes not zelda, but shes still a descendant.

I went more oot zelda vibes for her, since she would be closer, temporally, to oot. i also went very warm, since ive never seen the flood as a *warm* endeavor.

shes got the shoulder danglies, as most zeldas have shoulder armor of some kind. the danglies instead of actual armor are supposed to kind of evoke a royal sea captain kind of vibe.

shes ghostly, with a fish-eyed stare. shes been dead and gone for a long time. shes also a bit taller and a few years older than tetra (as of ww). shes just some spectre the king saw in tetra, not at all a close match

tetra, being smaller than princess z, doesnt fit into the clothes. the dress is too big for her (as is in canon gd that skirt is WAY too long for her), the coat is baggy. the role of a princess *literally* does not fit her.

the ribbons! theyre my replacement for the wings, and they represent the wind in the game! since its represented by white lines, the ribbons are a perfect symbolic match. (also, a note, tetras hair is shorter and coarser than princess z's)

i mostly bullshitted the blue panel but the vague idea i gave it was 'a hope for the triforce to give good fortunes to the people' (pictured as dots, mostly behind her arms)

Pirate Queen Tetra

ph! about a year has passed, and tetra has really grown into her own! as well as literally grown!

shes still tetra, pirate and captain, but shes incorporated that royal heritage into her identity: quite literally! she made piecemeal of the original outfit (what was left of it anyway after the fight), and added bits and pieces to her new life.

she also takes full advantage of said heritage to call herself pirate queen. its great for branding. whos gonna say she CANT go by pirate queen?

the seagull feather is from Aryll. only crew member tetra wears a trinket from (who can say no to that ball of sunshine! certainly not tetra)

not many notes. yall can see whats there. (also she still wears her hair in a bun, its just in a low bun (you can almost see it) when she wears her hat)

st zelda!

first note is: shes not a princess! shes an heiress of the company tetra had made and left behind. hence her title of Lady zelda. ("new hyrule" rly just like-- the ending of ww was *literally* that hyrule is dead and thats okay. how did they miss that :sob emoji:) also calling her Lady Zelda fits with the train vibes

shes in a 1880s style bustle dress because 1) i am OBSESSED with bustle dresses. i love them. so much. 2) the more historical vibe works really well with trains! also a lot of the other outfits in the game have late victorian vibes, so shes certainly not out of place.

her hat (and gloves): any proper lady has a hat on when going about town, however, when she gets body snatched, she pulled out her hatpin to use (ineffectively) as a weapon (she IS tetras great-great-granddaughter), causing her to lose her hat *and* hairdo.

shes still got the hatpin in her ghost form, too. she uses it to threaten people for funsies

Ribbons! on the topic of hairdo, her ribbons! visually tying her to tetras design, the ribbons here instead take on the image of train tracks, with her pin (on the left side) evoking a train engine. the pin also makes her look rich and girly. when her hair comes undone, this makes the ribbons all loose, like how the train tracks disappear in game. (the hat also kinda connects her to tetra)

Niffty Redesign🐛

Made my own take on Niffty for Fun!!!!!!!!💖 I def thought a lot on what to try with her!!!!

Pushed for a more 50’s Housewife aesthetic/hotel maid vibe. She’s wearing a pinafore apron which was very popular during that era and I took the poodle skirt idea and reworked it into the apron, but rather than a poodle it’s a bug 🐛. Also brought back warmer colors like the pilot look had. Pastel yellow was def a pop color!

Also added a name tag as to show she works for the hotel 🏨

Added more splotches and made them bigger on her apron. Polkadots were popular in that time and I think are cute(lot of her concepts had polka dots on her) plus I can see her wanting people to assume she’s a ladybug or Asian Lady Beetle 🐞 (@peeperscreeperz made a take of Niffty being that which is AMAZING and I considered making her that too but I ended up going a different route). I can see her also wanting them to give off flowers…only for most people to see them as blood stains.🌸🩸

Also gave her those iconic cleaning gloves 🧤. Shes the Hotels maid AND cook afterall 🧽 👩‍🍳

Gave her a bandana bow for the housewife and maid look and because I think it’s cute and lowkey gives off antennae. I LOVE the idea of her being a bug demon so I went with that. I was going for a subtle ambiguity of what she’s suppose to be(she’s hiding what she is).

Gave her warmer eye color back! Also made the pupil more leaf shaped 🍃.

Added gradient for her limbs.

Added extra limbs. Great for extra cleaning 🧹 🧼

Her hairs actually antennae…and extra legs 🦵

Gave her three fingers.

Made her eye bigger(bugs often got big eyes! Or for her case eye 👁️)

Added a lil bug instead of a poodle for her apron!🪳

For her color motif, went back to warmer colors and because for mine I’m going with a rainbow motif she’s Yellow💛🌈 the color known for its positives such as joy and friendship…but can also mean negative things such as Deceit, illness and often used as a warning color⚠️ it was also a popular color for Sci-Fi posters(she was based on B-Alien Movies)

Made her skin a kinda warm pastel orange🧡 I missed her having a warm palette but I also get why they changed it due to her roots 🇯🇵. So I went with orange!!!! Her hairs also a more brownish red-orange.

For her bug theme,

I went with something that I figure would connect her both to her ability to take down pests so well and Japanese origins. The Japanese Centipede! Centipedes are great for pest control but apparently to Japan they’re considered symbols of evil and rottenness, plus with how they look they often scare people even those they don’t pose serious threats to humans, which I think fits Niffty’s whole desire to be loved only to accidentally scare people away…shunned & unloved by a world she can’t seem to fit in💔

With the reveal of Husk being once an Overlord I like to believe the same with Niffty but rather than souls(talked about this with @a-sterling-rose, she was an immensely powerful sinner like Alastor, but alas her form was far too big and scary for people to want to get close to and she was alone…until Alastor offered her a deal he’d provide a more approachable form in return for her eternal service)

A lot of her looks meant to be hiding what she is. Disguising her extra limbs as hair, her body’s color scheme based on a centipedes, poofy dress that could cover extra, even the bug design could be Interpreted as a long centipede. I was also going for a subtle sharp, mini legs for her apron ruffles, giving off her trying to look sweet and soft but could also be interpreted in another way…

I read and learned from a @lovesart23 redesign vid for her that, she was meant to be based on B-Alien Movies. LOVE that and I tried it myself(hardest part was figuring out what bug to make her and what themes to go with) but I ended up going for another Sci-Fi route. Kaiju/Giant Bug monsters. Creatures like Godzilla or those giant bugs creatures like “the Tingler” 1959(which was a centipede monster I read). I figure it’d connect well to both her struggles of fitting in but also her Japanese Roots.

Ok the WIP I posted a little while ago is no loner a WIP yipeeeeeee I am so tired of looking at this drawing.

Artist's Notes:

THIS DRAWING IS FINALLY DONE YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Ok so this drawing was a WIP that I had had sitting around for a while, and so because I wanted to do a test run with the new face style I'm trying out, I decided to pick it back up again. Now you may notice that compared to the other version of the WIP, the shading is different, and that's because I had to change all of it to match the light source of the moon, which was.... not exactly fun (especially cuz I stayed up late at night to finish this which was tiring), but it was worth it because I am a lot happier with the shading now. Also, when I initially redid the shading on the white trim of her outfit, I ended up making them look like indiscreet white blobs that just looked... bad, so I had to fix that and I think it looks a lot better.

My favourite parts of this drawing have to be the face and the hair, though I'm not surprised about how much I like the hair since hair is my favourite thing to draw. Also the wolf, I really like how the wolf turned out, since I also love drawing animals from time to time. I also like how the background turned out.

Also, Enoko's design was a hit hard to get right, and I decided to add the white trim separating her shirt and skirt mainly because I didn't like how abruptly it changed in the original design. Also, for some reason her dress makes me think of 1800s-y southern/western clothes, which has given me the headcanon that Saki gave her these clothes when they first met. Makes me wanna draw the two of them together in very western styled clothes, I think it would be cute. I also changed up some of the colours on her original design to fit in more with the palette that I was going for with this piece. Also, I like how her tails turned out, mainly because when I was working on some of the sketch for this I tried to make them smaller, but they didn't look right so I just went "fuck it" and made them big and poofy. Also drawing her wolf ears was fun, I like drawing simplified wolf ears like that. Overall, I'd say I did a good job incorporating elements (like the bear trap hands, the tails, the gem) in a way that didn't feel like they were out of place in the piece (something I was concerned about with Enoko's design).

All in all, I wouldn't call this my best work, but I do like a lot of aspects of it. I've also noticed that I'm kinda getting a bit frustrated with certain parts of my style like the lighting (mainly the lighting), so I think I wanna try and branch back into that more painterly style that I started out with when I first started posting here while still mixing in some elements of my lineless style. Also, I need to get better with my colour values, mainly just for clarity since I kinda think that's where this drawing falls flat a little.

I just very self indulgently spent most of today making every V3 character in this awesome picrew!! Forcing you all to look at them

First I made training trio!! I love big goofy poofy jackets for Kaito, I need to draw him in something like this some time. Also I actually remade Shuichi, since he was the first one I made and I had a lot more practice with this picrew by the end of it and wanted to improve it.

Then here's the case 1 trio!! I adore giving Tsumugi really long skirts, and also Rantaro's outfit was fun to play around with

For these three I'm actually in awe of how well Kokichi turned out. Like. That works INSANELY well. On the other hand Kiibo was a bit of a nightmare as a robot, but I think I managed to figure something out that worked pretty well!

Next the ch3 girls!! I'm kind of obsessed with this outfit for Himiko. Tenko was super hard to get right but I'm happy with how it turned out

Korekiyo was SUPER fun to make an outfit for. What can I say, I love the colour brown. Ryoma kinda just ended up in the outfit I draw him in in canon, but it worked out I think

Last but of course not least- Kirumi and Gonta!! I gave Gonta a little wolf pup :]

did miss raven also join harveston? i think the traditional harevston outfit would have fit her like a glove! (i'm not 100% sure how a raven-turned-human would fare in the cold though)

For each event, I like to think of an AU scenario where Miss Raven tags along for some silly reason to join in on the fun. I think she would really enjoy the hometown events specifically, as they give her a chance to explore and to experience new cultures and areas. She can sample Harveston’s specialties, learn about the agricultural community there, and help support and cheer on the NRC sledding team!

Epel’s proud of his hometown and more than eager to share it. Raven loves his enthusiasm and happily eats it up. She’s the one in the tour group that’s constantly raising her hand and posing questions to the guide. Epel doesn’t mind though—that just means she’s curious and knows how to appreciate Harveston!!

Miss Raven can go “big sis” mode when she’s dealing with Sebek. They usually don’t get along, but since the big guy’s susceptible to the cold she can hover nearby and make sure he’s sufficiently warm. “Blanket? Warm drink? Make sure you’re taking care of yourself, Sebek-kun!” (He shoos her off and shouts about how he’s a strong independent man that doesn’t need to be fretted over then he sneezes before he can finish his protest www)

Idia isn’t someone Miss Raven talks with a lot, but he’d probably be excited that she resembles one of the characters from Sled Over Heels in her Harveston fit. Maybe he asks her about cosplay in an attempt to make conversation and she just goes “???? What is that…” Idia gives up on attempting to socialize and crawls back into his quiet corner to be gloomy.

Jade… well, he’s Jade 💀 You can bet he’ll be bickering with her the entire trip as they take in the local flora and fauna. Miss Raven will want to try a little of every food and drink offered to her, but because of her small stomach she can’t possibly eat full servings. Jade can be her convenient human-sized food disposal bin more free food for him.

Ravens are actually quite hardy; they can survive in northern winters just fine (since they’re ready and willing to eat most anything they come across)! The birds that migrate do so for food and egg laying purposes; their warm-bloodedness and plumage often provide adequate insulation.

… Now that I think about it, Miss Raven doesn’t actually have all her feathers in her current form 😅 so she’s more susceptible to the cold at the moment; that’s nothing an Applepom/Snow Boa outfit can’t fix though! (Her thanks goes out to Marja and the kind people of Harveston~)

Here’s a quick sketch:

It’s very similar to the outfits that Idia, Sebek, and Jade wear! Miss Raven’s variant has a poofy skirt and slightly different boots. You can’t tell from the sketch (because I totally glossed over the intricate patterns in it), but there are supposed to be scattered feathers and little sparkles included with the apple cross sections in the design. I imagine the overall fabric of the look to be dark blueish.

Her hat is most similar to Idia’s, with strings that resemble her braided pigtails. Somehow they magically manage to contain all of her hair… The new hairstyle is meant to resemble Princess Anna’s! There’s also a removable cloak which is meant to be a reference to Anna’s own magenta cloak. Miss Raven is suited for adventure; as you can probably tell from the sketch, she has a number of useful items in the pouch slung at her waist.

he will wear fem clothing for fun! he doesn’t do drag he just likes how free it feels, especially big poofy dresses n skirts. that’s some of his casual clothes and he got a lot of clothes from marigold and lisa (childhood friend)!

He really likes to style outfits and would’ve probably had a job that involved that kind of stuff if he didn’t die! Probably a costume designer honestly

HE CAN COOK!!! he loves cooking!!! he also used to babysit Lisa’s kids and so he made really magical cute little meals for them out of whatever they wanted to eat!! Helped them be less picky too. Didn’t wanna eat your veggies? No problem! Now they’re little stars and hearts! He is very much the type of person to make little animals out of fruits for his or lisa’s kid(s)

He looovvveessss candles, if you showed him those candle sculpting videos he’d sit there for HOURS watching them.

1. IbisPaintX, honestly it was my first art program I ever actually used but now I'm FireAlpaca's bitch.

2.Oooh I personally really enjoy/have an easier time drawing front facing characters, profiles are so darn difficult.

3. Big bright and noticeable eyeshines i guess! Always been a thing for me, so my characters always have extra bright eyes. Or i guess eyes in general are a thing I kept from my kiddie days.

4. Crystaline stuff and MAGIC. I love them both so much but god can I not draw them for the life of me. And hair! But hair i'm starting to figure out!

5. Now that I think about it's pretty darn close id I do say so myself! Like 40 to 45% i post online (mostly on discord) and then 55 to 60% i keep to myself!

6. When I draw cats it's a lot of inspo from different warrior cats fandom big names but in general anime is my big inspo!

7.Traditional painting! I tried painting and it's just not for me but I love the way it looks and how many thing people can do with it!

8. God the amount of stories and characters that I've just left as wips in immense. I have adhd, can't finish stuff for shit.

9. Usually if it's one character it's 'character name' and then you add a number or a descriptor (aka smile or smth). Otherwise it's just like 2 or 3 words of what the drawing is. And then I group those in like 'finished art' 'wips' etc!

10.Ooh tough one. I do enjoy drawing poofy sleeved shirts or like long flowy dresses/skirts.

11.Ranges from romance music playlists to true crime and everything in between! I just need a background noise honestly. Doesn't really matter what the noise is.

13. Junji Ito. His style is just so freakin' interesting and his grasp on anatomy is just amazing! But, personally I'm not the biggest horror/gore fan so I don't actually read his stuff. I just find his art nifty when I see it.

15.In my room personally but I used to go out to parks and draw there when I was younger.

12. Going to a Christmas sing-along

We are continuing once more with our friends at the studio and their Christmas concert. So make sure you have read days 2 and 10

“Vilu, your dress is amazing!” Francesca gasped as Violetta had taken her dress out of the garment bag. She, Francesca, Camila, Ludmila and Naty had set camp in one of the smaller dressing rooms at Gran Rex. The bigger ones had been reserved for the students, because, of course, they were the stars. 

It was T-minus two hours until go time for the OnBeat Christmas Sing-Along. Preparing for the concert had been exhausting and also so much fun. 

“Of course, it is,” Ludmila remarked while working on Naty’s makeup. Her own rose-gold dress was hanging on the wall next to Vilu’s. “I went shopping with her, so obviously it looks good.”

“I don’t think Dad thinks so,” Violetta languages but also roller her eyes. “He walked in on me trying it out and automatically assumed that was going to elope or something. I don’t know what that is about, I have worn white dresses before.”

“Good thing Leon was not in the house,” Camila laughed, “He would have been skinned alive.”

“I really need to get a lock on my door,” Vilu shook her head, “Or just move out.”

“You are welcomed to crash with me and Diego.” Francesca suggested while trying to attach an eyelash.

“Are you sure Diego agrees with that?” Camila noted while tying up her white cowboy boots. She was wearing a long emerald green dress with sheer poofy sleeves and high slit.

“Good idea!” Fran jumped up, “This is their first big performance. We should give them some tips. And this is not about us after all, they are the stars.”

The girls go out of their dressing room and started walking across the hall. As they were walking, they heard a lot of voices singing. The sound was coming from the student’s dressing rooms.

“Aww, they are practicing right before a show.” Francesca cooed, “Brings back so many memories. They are just like us.”

“I remember our first concert.” Violetta laughed. “I had to run away from my dad.”

“Only because I was not available to perform as the main lead,” Ludmila snarked.

“Right… because you had that—” Cami started to say.

“Zip it!” Ludmila stopped her, “We do not speak of that. That did not happen.”

“Okay, lets go in,” Violetta knocked on the door and opened it. 

The girls walked in on all the student dancing and singing to Jingle Bells. As they looked around they saw Leon and Diego sitting in the middle of the room playing guitars and apparently leading the singing. 

“What are you doing here?”

“Well we figured that, since we had some empty time on our hands since we don’t need to do our make up for hours on end,” Leon responded after putting the guitar down, “we came here to hang with these guys.” He gestured towards the students. 

“You stole our idea!” Vilu crossed her arms.

“Anyways,” Fran hurried to continue, “How are all of you guys feeling? The opening of a big show!”

“Excited!”

“Nervous!”

“I don’t know if I can stand still on this stage.”

“You can all relax,” Violetta started speaking. “Your first show is always nerve-wracking. Ours was.”

“Especially as Gregorio dropped the sets on us,” Leon remarked.

I wanna request some tamaki suoh smut😁👍🏾 The most necessary thing, is that this takes place during episode nine or whatever episode it was that had tamaki wear that big red dress he wore, and the reader was his partner (reader is gender-neutral), and their relationship is secret. Well, not really secret because Haruhi and Kyoya know. Haruhi found out from walking in on them kissing, and Kyoya knows because he knows everything.

Now onto the request., Tamaki wore a big red dress, like the other host club members. Kyoya noticed that Tamaki was acting a bit odd. Tamaki would always start smiling out of nowhere, and he would make faint noises, and he had his hands where his crotch was. Later, Kyoya asked Tamaki what was wrong with him. Tamaki told him that he shouldn’t worry. Kyoya then soon found out that the reader was under Tamaki’s dress, sucking him off.

Holy hell, YES. I really wish this wasn’t anonymous because I want to know you. This is amazing. Dear god, I rewatched this episode and dear god is it something else! I also re-read the post you mentioned and damn I did it’s been a while since I’ve written smut. (Kyoya’s POV)

Kyoya didn’t particularly like this idea but he supposed if it was necessary to keep Haurh around he would do it. But he almost drew the line at hosting like that. For some reason, this was where he ended up, in a dress at the back of the room trying to stay hidden. This gave Kyoya lots of time to observe. Kyoya knew something was off with Tamaki right away. When Kyoya tried to ask him afterwards Tamaki just brushed him off. Kyoya was interested now, he wanted to get to the bottom of this, but little did he know what he was getting into.

(Third POV)

The last guest had left the host club and the boys had changed into regular clothing.

“That was a funny guy but why didn’t you just wear the girls' uniforms?” Haruhi asks, causing all the boys to freeze.

“Come on that would have been so much easier” Hikaru complains.

“But it wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun,” you say with a smirk, side-eyeing Tamaki and making his whole face blush.

“What do you mean Y/N chan?” Honey asks.

“Just that those skirts don’t cover much, I mean it would be impossible to-“ you say before being cut off by a panicked Tamaki.

“It would be imposable for the guest to actually focus on us, that's all, right Y/N/N” Tamaki looks at you with begging eyes. His words and action made it clear he didn’t exactly want the host club to find out about the way it was a good idea to have the long poofy dress. You just wanted to get back at Tamaki for his wandering hands the last time you were with the host club. Well get back is the wrong word, you wanted to punish him. If he wanted to act slutty in public he could risk getting caught.

“Yeah that, I think there’s also something about the uniforms in the student handbook anyways,” you say which earns a realized sigh from Tamaki. No one seemed to buy it but they didn’t bring it up. Hikaru and Kaoru, two of the three who knew about your relationship because they saw you kissing, could infer what happened and fully intended to tease Tamaki about it later. Haruhi was the other one who knew but she didn’t care enough to think about it.

Kyoya on the other hand did a thing about it, and he just got more confused. He finally settled on asking you on your own later.

Almost everyone had left, you were helping Kyoya with the last of the paperwork for the upcoming gala the club was throwing and Kyoya thought it was as good a time as any.

“So Y/N, what were you going to say about the dress earlier?”. 

You chuckled a little, “Oh that, just that, oh wait I haven’t told you yet have I?”.

“Told me what?”.

“Tamaki and I are together, like romanticly”.

“Just romanticly?” Kyoya questions with a quirked brow making you blush. It was a nightmare when your brothers found out but you would take that over this right now.

“W-well sexually too I guess” you stammer.

“Alright, I get the picture, just be safe and how about not on club time alright, that kind of indecency is bad for business,” Kyoya says very calmly before packing up and leaving you alone in the music room very confused.

A retouch up on my redesigns, Some color switches and some detail changes:

Ruby’s design is probably the worst in terms of being IC still maybe though the most fun. Her outfit is very lolita inspired, her JSK skirt is shaped to mimic a Sepal with the red petticoats being petals. She has a peter pan collar with embroidery and fancy rose themed arm “warmers” and black and red grippy gloves. Her skirt has pockets. Her shoes are pointy on purpose, Ruby’s character always reminded me of pixies or fairies and pointy shoes remind me of that type of character. Half her hair is curly (like rose blossoms) and longer (like stems), the symbolism is blunt. The cute bows on her shoes and hood is just because I love bows. There is a touch of lace on the bow ties of her hood.  The hood is all red other than lace, Im a doof who ducked up the opacity, but no its not going to see through as part of the design.

Weiss’s design is layered and better suited for cold. I love her side pony tail, but it’s too thick in the show, I added red diamond earrings to reminisce of royalty and removed her tiara, there is some sparkle to her skirt which has black lace at the edge, and subtle blue embroidery to her gloves and top. Her emblem snowflake is on the back of the shoes. I gave her flatter heels because ??? the fuck you skating in heels. The top is like a robe with big poofy sleeves that lead to gloves, the gloves do have little bows. She had layered tights and stockings.

Yang’s outfit was design with bike riding in mind, you need to have a lot of your skin covered in case you biff it. Her turtle neck is cut in a clevage window because she loves her tiddies, and while she hasn’t show her abdomen much I thought it would be a fitting continuing of her very self assured nature. She zips up the jacket when riding. I think bike boots have a lil bit of a heel? So I kept that here, her color palette is soft yellow and light browns, she has a tiny purple pendant necklace for Blake. It’s common when wearing prosthetics to have protective sleeves to reduce chaffing, and yes it’s magic and probably not an issue but I added that detail, the other arm also has cloth because of high friction gauntlet. Her design is more practical and less fashionable here. The weird pouch is just a fantasy element.

What would your ideal outfit for a ball at Lost Hope be?

Ooh that's a good question! In the book they all wore very up to date fashionable clothing there, but 1810's is later than my favourite eras of fashion, so I'll assume I can dress more like they did in the mini-series where everyone's in fashions of various different eras.

(Not the most accurate, but hey, they're mostly extras and it's a fantasy scene so I don't mind, especially since the main characters have such good costumes.)

With the lighting it's hard to tell what the colours are, but it looks to be a lot of pale greenish greyish colours, which I quite like. I am very fond of lichen-y greens.

My first instinct would be to say a 1740's or 50's suit with frogging on the coat, kind of like this one, but in foresty colours to give it a mossy appearance.

I'm not sure if that would be appropriate for a ball though. I don't know for sure, but I get the impression that these frogged coats tend to be more informal? And quite a large portion of them are fur lined ones which I think are more for at-home wear.

It would be so much fun to make frogging that looked like little clusters of lichen and mushrooms, on a fabric that's.. hmm, maybe light brownish grey silk brocade that's woven to look like stylized tree bark texture. And I'd have a contrasting waistcoat in lichen green, with a lichen and mushroomy pattern either embroidered or woven to shape.

And of course the usual accessories - shoes with pretty buckles, white stockings, queue bag, plain white neck stock. I'd have my hair nicely styled like this (or Maybe a wig, since my hair is getting quite thin and harder to style):

But if propriety forbids my possibly informal frogged coat then I think I'd have go 1730's. I do love love love the fashions of 1785-95, but I'm honestly not so keen on the court dress from that era. That particularly popular style of polychrome floral embroidery on dark velvet with little woven geometric patterns just doesn't do it for me. Late 80's-early 90's is my long time favourite, but more for the fun mix and match stuff, and all the wacky patterns and embroideries. I'm also not quite as fond of the cuts of late 18th-early 19th century court suits as I am of everything else.

But the 30's! No weird mixing of dark geometric velvet and bright florals! And the fuller coat skirts would look nicer while dancing. (I don't know how to dance at all, but I'm assuming I'd learn pretty quickly if I was kidnapped by fairies and sent to dance at a ball all night every night.)

I'd want a suit that's cut basically the same as this 1730's one I finished last year.

But with the breeches and the coat in plain velvet in either green or brown, and the coat cuffs and waistcoat in a contrasting brocade in mostly pale greens and greys. I like it when the coat has contrasting cuffs made of the same fabric as the waistcoat, and it continues well into the 18th century in some capacity, but was much more popular earlier. Which makes sense, since it works so much better with those bigger styles of coat cuff!

Yeah I could just use a plain contrasting silk and embroider it instead, but I'd prefer to do that thing where you've got a gorgeous brocade with an absolutely enormous asymmetrical pattern and the repeat is so big that you can't see the whole design on your waistcoat, and certainly not on your coat cuffs, so you've got unique and varied little chunks of the design.

So a big brocade like that, but in a more whimsical pattern depicting twisty old trees and mushrooms and lichen and such. It's a good thing the fabric I'm describing doesn't exist to tempt me, so I can't add this to my already horribly long "to sew" list.

And with the buttons and buttonholes all done in silver thread, like the ones above. Not this layout though, I'd want mine evenly spaced and I wouldn't put those extra buttons on the buttonhole side.

The shirt would be pretty much like the one in the above portrait, just a normal fancy shirt for the 30's with some nice lace. And as long as I'm describing fantasy textiles for a fairy ball, I also want a pattern of little mushrooms woven into the lace itself. Ohhh now I'm sad that I can't have some nice cotton or linen lace with a pattern of little mushrooms in it :( Maybe I could do some whitework embroidered ruffles like that someday...

Ok, yes, that is what I'd wear! 1730's suit in muted brown or green velvet with a waistcoat and coat cuffs in pale green/grey brocade with a huge woven pattern of forest-y things, and with silver buttons & buttonholes. Same accessories as I said for the one with the frogging, because stocks and queue bags and buckle shoes are in fashion for quite a long period of time. Normally the shoes and queue bag are black, but for this maybe I'd soften them down to a nice grey. Early 18th century men's shoes aren't nearly as cute as late 18th century men's shoes, but oh well! I'd still feel darn cute in such an outfit, with my big swishy coat and my hair in nice little poofy curled sections at the sides.

Ahsoka in Jedi robes, design by @rishi-eel

Love the recall to her original concept. Summer’s here so I took her to the garden :D

There has been so many wonderful Jedi robes designs for Ahsoka out on here and I just want them all for my doll! I don’t have a definitive vision for Ahsoka’s Jedi robes yet so this surely isn’t the only set I’m gonna make!

The outfit consists of five parts: undergarment, pleated skirt, vest, the sash and the belt. Construction-wise, they’re pretty basic and all something I’ve done before so it’s not too difficult. But dressing her! There are so many layers she barely has a waist anymore lol. However, it’s all worth it since the outdoor photoshoot is a lot of fun.

It’s not an exact recreation of the design sketch, to my discredit. There are a few details I could’ve pursued harder but I’ll give myself a 10% margin of inaccuracy? I obviously bypassed the gloves and shoes, or that pouch - haven’t unlock those skill trees yet. The undergarment was made earlier separately from a bleached cloth so it’s white, even as the same fabric as the skirt. (Yes have 1/5 part done is a huge motivation of starting this project). I used so many cheats holding it together, as you’ll discover.

The Jedi part of this outfit. I debated whether it’s two strips of rectangles or should I make a vest. I chose the latter because it’s easier to manage in her pile of clothes and I’ve made Anakin’s before. Then I sewed two tubes and flipped them over for the sash, and painted in gold all over them. I’ve tried tying an obi with two long dangling dashes, but the giant knot just didn’t look good. So I took a book from the Shaak Ti figure and made two flat sash pieces.

I have three fixing wire in this look. Let me apologize: I totally should, at least glue, a hook and eye for the belt. But I’m an indecisive and like always, this is pinned together. (I’m always thinking maybe this can double for something else) Usually I tend to overestimate the sizes and likewise, the undergarment has no closing, so it is fixed in place with a craft wire a little below the waist. Then the skirt, tied at the back with a ribbon in the waistband. The sash pieces fixed with another wire, now higher up marking the natural waist. Finally it’s covered with the belt strip and the obi-dome - a polystrene particle with cardboard triangles glued on another craft wire. 

Even though the skirt’s a little big for this project, I do like it’s poofiness. The Obi-dome is my favourite part (god it’s finally over), since it’s the sort of lightbulb moment that told me to use something as simple as a poor ball torn off my sewing machine packaging. Well, that, and the shiny gold paint.

I do regret a little not using more embroidery or perhaps actual trimming for the gold accents. Still, I’m very pleased with the end results. Such an endearing look! Thanks again to rishi-eel for the blessing!

Put Some Clothes On!

But how? Winged humanoids sure do have some big limbs to work around when it comes to clothing.

I'm using my oc Morianten and my new tutorial oc Teo as models for this. Because clothes are more fun to draw on someone with a face instead of a blank mannequin lol.

Winged humanoids with feathery bird-like wings do have space between the wings and tail where you can add a belt. The basic structure is a halter top that fastens behind the neck and then again at the waist, with a big open space between so the wings are unobstructed. This would be put on at the neck first and then fastened at the waist. A belt can be added to attach a skirt or pants, which would be stepped into and pulled up to the base of the tail. Or the whole outfit can be a dress or jumpsuit that would be stepped into and then fastened at the waist and neck. Sleeves can be added, but they would require some specialization to stay up properly when they can’t attach to anything behind the arm.

Winged humanoids with bat-like wings do not have space for a belt, so their clothing is a little more shapeless. Think of a halter top jumpsuit or dress with an open back all the way down to the butt. It would be stepped into, pulled to the base of the tail, and then fastened at the neck. Just like the previous example, sleeves can be added but need a little extra specialization to stay up.

Since they can’t just throw on a normal shirt, staying warm in cold weather does require some unique solutions. For the feathery wings, honestly their back feathers might be good enough. But if it’s not good enough, a panel that fastens to the back of the neck and the back of the waist should help. And it might require some help to put on. For the bat wings, there is no waist to attach things to, so a cape attached at the neck with enough weights in the hem to keep it in place will have to do.

Hoods would be pretty easy to add to a halter top for winged people, it’s just a normal hood that might have to open in the back a little to go over the head and neck properly. Both types of winged people should be able to wear things like gloves and shoes perfectly fine, though if like me you are giving your winged people non-human feet you might have a trickier time giving them shoes.

I don’t think putting a wing cover over a feathery wing is a good idea, as it would disrupt the feathers and make flying extremely difficult. But maybe you could find a way to get a wing cover over the membranous wing. Maybe. It would be really tricky to get it to work right and be fitted properly to allow for flight. But if you want to do it, go for it, it’s fantasy bat people.

It is so much fun to take the basic clothing structures and see just how much you can push them, so go wild! Even the simple outfits can be spiffed up with fun colors and patterns. And just because the outfits kind of require a halter top for the sake of the wings doesn't mean you can only do one style of clothing. You can make it masculine, feminine, androgynous, colorful, fancy, casual, etc

Clothing also helps display culture! So if you're trying to worldbuild with winged people and you’re stuck on culture stuff, think about how their specific needs regarding clothing might have developed and been affected by their lifestyles or changed their lifestyles. Bat people can’t wear belts because they have no waist gap between the wings and tail, so maybe they developed clothing with lots of pockets. Maybe your feathery humanoids are very bird like in their behavior so they wear very shiny and colorful outfits with lots of frill! The possibilities are endless.
