The peak Jason&Bruce dynamic is one where they both miss who the other used to be. Bruce wants his happy, beloved son back, and Jason wants his father back.
But Jason's death changed them both, and they can never be those people again. Forever haunted by the ghost of what once was and what could have been. There is so much love there but it doesn't change anything.
#my dc posting#dc#jason todd#bruce wayne#batman#they make me insaneee#bc it's so important to me that it's not just Jason who was changed drastically by his death#to the point of being almost unrecognizable as the boy he once was#but that the same happened to Bruce#that jason can no longer reconcile the current batman with the dad from his childhood#bruce being at his best parenting-wise during Jason's robin time is so beloved to me even though it's not rly canon he kinda suckeeed#but it makes the tragedy hurt so much more#the lack of justice and being replaced hurt so much BECAUSE jason didn't think his dad would do that to him!!#bc he thought he was loved and treasured only to come back to life only for there to be evidence of nothing but the contrary!!!!!#AAAAAAAAAA losing my minddd rotating them in my brainnn#the love was there but it didn't change anything#<- whoever i first saw say that regarding these 2 changed my brain chemistry it's all i can think abt

Continuing on a bit from this post:
Tim, complaining about Bruce grounding him again: It doesn’t even make sense! It’s like everything I do is a problem now but I’m not doing anything different!
Kon, who thinks a grounding is when you get sent outside to do yard work: Have you tried digging a hole? Like a lot of holes.
Bart, whose punishments are typically doing chores without powers: Or raking leaves?
Cassie, who knows exactly why Tim keeps getting in trouble: … Does Bruce know you’re at Titan Tower?
Tim: No, why?
Cassie: No reason.
***Later that day***
Jason: Why is Tim digging a grave in the front yard?
Dick: He got grounded again.
Jason: So… is it for him or Bruce?
Dick: Not sure yet.
#Cassie realizing she’s the most normal one here and the gods talk to her#It’s unfortunate that Bruce and Tim are bad at communicating in the exact same way#This will not be resolved without someone interfering but almost everybody thinks it’s funnier to just watch#meanwhile: Alfred is about ten steps away from seeing what’s currently happening to his flowers#and Tim is one wrong word away from creating another fake uncle#tim drake#red robin#conner kent#superboy#impulse#bart allen#cassie sandsmark#wonder girl#batfam

I feel like everytime the batkids are together in the comics and Bruce tells them to not do something, just after he left, Dick turns to his siblings to be like "So, what we do here is never listen to B. So we are going to do it." and one of them will be like "This is not going to end well.", and they follow Dick in the danger Bruce told them to stay away from.
It's incredible how Bruce still trust Dick SO MUCH when he is pulling this bs ALL THE TIME.

Wait, how tf did I miss this.
Batman: Wayne Family Adventures #7
You're telling me Forever Evil happened in this universe? You're telling me SPYRAL happened in this universe? I'll have to hope that everything went down very differently because otherwise there's a lot to unpack there that clearly this comic isn't ready for.
#and here I thought this bruce wayne might be more excusable than the others#because if the crime syndicate happened that means spyral happened which means bruce beat up his son to go on a mission in this universe too#unless they changed at all and made it more family friendly (literally)#which I hope so#dick grayson#nightwing#crime syndicate#dc comics#dc#batfamily#batfam#wayne family adventures#batman wfa#side note: ouch because imagine your very traumatic experience that killed you isn't counted as your death#idc if it was only a few minutes it still was pretty damn bad#sure it's not the same as being dead for months#but c'mon

Bruce has a habit of randomly worrying about his kids and silently lurking in their room until he's done being insane. This usually happens mid prolonged argument or after an incident on patrol that he thinks could've gone much worse.
It would be sweet, if he hadn't raised his kids to be just as paranoid as he is, making them shoot awake every time to see to their Batdad sleep paralysis demon.
#Dick started leaving cushions in his bed to get some peace of mind#Jason goes through several safehouses per week to avoid it#Tim sleeps through most of them but has the weirdest dreams#Damian throws something at Bruce (whatever is nearest)#Cass freaks Bruce out by doing the same but Bruce is charmed by the gesture#Stephanie always freaks out and preemptively starts sending him selfies with her flipping him off with a caption of “I'm fine”#Duke doesn't understand how he doesn't see it coming each time it happens and always lights up the room like a flash grenade#I swear to God I've missed someone...#Oh yeah Alfred just asks Bruce if he needs anything? thoughts about time travel shenanigans where robin jason and bruce are thrust into the future and find themselves on a rooftop during a stormy night? because listen.
they both find themselves on this random rooftop in gotham, but they're not alone because right in front of them is batman of this year and a man wearing a red helmet. this wouldn't have raised much of a concern-- they probably could've just asked the future bruce what happened and how to get home-- except this batman is more violent than jay or bruce anticipated. they watch, stunned, as this batman repeatedly rains his heavy fist down on the other man's face, chest, ribs, and wherever else he can reach.
they watch as the man with the red helmet struggles weakly, consciousness slowly leaving him, before they catch sight of his face in the crack of his hood. both jay and bruce realize at the same time who it is-- that this is future jason despite the hard lines and large ragged body so different from jay's own.
the realization hits right there-- that bruce is beating down on jason more violently than batman has handled any villain.
the bruce of the past feels it before he sees it-- his jay flinching away from him and his tiny hand ripping away from his cape in fear. bruce looks down at his son, his child, and sees the absolute terror in his eyes. after all, why wouldn't jay be so upset? didn't bruce promise never to lay a hand on him like so many adults in his young life already have? didn't bruce swear, crouched down in front of his little boy and gently holding his hands, that he would keep him safe now?
and yet as they stare at each other with horror-filled eyes, the jason of this time finally loses consciousness as his bruce drags him away by the cracks of his helmet, bloody knuckles pressed over his swollen eyelids.
bruce distantly remembers the way jay had shyly called him dad just two days ago. now, he stares as his sweet boy takes a trembling step back, tears threatening to spill down his wide eyes. bruce doesn't think he's hated himself more.
#was thinking about my post about baby jay looking to bruce with so much love and trust and went: now wait a minute#because i have to imagine how jay- who trusted bruce so much- would react to seeing that same bruce beat the life out of him#i genuinely think it would change both their lives#jay wouldn't be able to look at bruce the same ever again#and bruce wouldn't know how to fix it-- should he fix it? should he apologize? how does he make sure jay knows this won't ever happen?#DOES he know it won't ever happen? what if it does?#and then BAM angst !!#jason todd#red hood#batman#bruce wayne#robin jason todd#second robin#robin ii#bruce and jason#jason peter todd#dc#dc comics#(( writing 💌 ))

tim having the relationship with dick that jason always wanted. jason always wanted dick to hang around gotham more, to be more of a big brother to him. and tim got that. dick goes out for ice cream to tim, checks up on him, helps him when he's injured, takes him to the cinema, answers within minutes everytime tim messages.
jason having the relationship with bruce that tim always wanted. tim always wanted bruce to care about him more, to see him as a son too. and jason got that. bruce has pictures of jason everywhere, checks up on him, looks after him when he's sick, cares about him outside of just being robin, keeps everything jason gives him.
#and dick is only so close to him because he felt bad he wasn't like that with jason#and missed the opportunity to be a proper big brother until it was too late#while bruce is afraid of getting close to tim as he's still mourning jason and is afraid of the same thing happening to tim#dc#tim drake#jason todd#batfamily#dick grayson#bruce wayne

— Catwoman (1993) #90
I have been laughing about this panel since I saw it. Cass’s posture, Catwoman’s pause, the complete unseriousness, and the fact this is mid chase scene.
Selina’s running for her life from Batman’s various other associates, then hits a dark lurking bat figure and just goes “Oh shit, Bat.” All further details are like the least of her worries right now.
#i know its like probably a joke at cass#but please its so funny to just entertain it as if its sincere#its also even more hilarious in the context of literally everything else happening in this plot line#also more cass and bruce are the same person evidence for those that want it#cassandra cain#selina kyle#batgirl#catwoman#dc

Damian Wayne stuck in a time loop.
It resets when someone dies, and since Damian is the youngest, it doesn’t matter how rocky his relationship is with the bat-siblings, each and everyone one of them sacrifices themselves for him.
And Damian is pissed off because he doesn’t understand why.
Grayson is obvious, he has made it clear that he feels affection for Damian and has made the most effort into integrating him into the family. Of course he would die for his little brother. And at first, Damian believes he finds this outcome to be the least acceptable.
There is also his Father, again, a logical expression of love. Damian can understand why his Father would die for him, even if he doesn’t want him to. Even if, in the first few loops, he wishes that anyone else would die instead. At least it’s a type of parental relationship he can understand in the abstract, even if it surprises him to see its true about himself. That even though he has several older brothers and is unsure of his place by his Father’s side, the man would do anything to protect him. It reminds him of his Mother, even though he’s sure if she were here she’d find a way for the both of them to live.
Brown is the first one to surprise him. They had worked together when Grayson was Batman and he recognized her competence, but he thought that’s all it was. A working relationship between professionals. A mutal, if grudging respect. He is shocked when she dies, how he had no clue she would go that far for him. How he refuses to let it happen again.
If Brown was a surprise, Cain was a shock. Damian thought of her as nigh invincible, unable to be touched. It was clear she was the best of all of them, that she had seen the hit miles ahead of him, had maybe even seen him brace for it. But she had chosen to let herself go down. He feels every bit his age as he begins to wonder if he’s even more powerless to stop this than he thought if his most competent sister chose to let herself fall.
Thomas was confusing. He was new, newer than Damian and not quite sure of himself. They rarely saw each other aside from school due to the mismatch in schedules. Thomas gave him a wide berth, respecting Damian’s space in a way his other siblings failed to do or intentionally disregarded. Damian didn’t think much of him. Couldn’t understand how Thomas hadn’t even paused, had taken the hit as if it was an unquestionable law of the universe. As if they were really brothers and not strangers. It was a sentiment Damian didn’t know how to return.
Todd was the worst. He had seen him, briefly, before he had come to Gotham from the league. His Mother spoke of him rarely, but with pride. He was skilled, if untamed. He avoided the manor and his brothers and their Father. The only one he usually sought was Pennyworth. That is why Todd was the worst. Because he avoided all of them. Because this family had already allowed him to die before and he had come back wrong. A painful reminder that their family has failed. And he fought so hard to remind them all of that failure, every way he chose to keep fighting to live, to prioritize his own life over their Father’s morality. Only to throw it away for Damian. To force him to watch how his brother’s second death shattered their Father and Pennyworth and Grayson in a way that Damian didn’t think they’d survive a second time.
Drake is incomprehensible. Antithetical. A cosmic error. Impossible. There is no love between them, no grudging respect, nothing. Damian can’t stand to look at the person who he feels is a disgrace to the costume Damian now wears. He is the one who dies for Damian the most. The one he can’t possibly understand. The brother he has the least time to question, who gives him the least answers as to his motivations. Who will both die for Damian and refuse to utter a word to him in the same loop. It is madness. Damian needs to prove himself above this embarrassment, and yet Drake chooses to be beneath him. To die for him. It is in spite of Damian’s skill that Drake dies, and Damian hates him for it.

Just a silly little jaytim involving never died! Jason's big fat crush on his new friend.
Jason twirls in front of Babs again in case her Oracle eyes see something that he's missed. He worked hard on this, and he'd die of mortification if he there was a mistake he hadn't seen. He won't lie, he's kind of nervous about tonight. It's been...awhile since he's gone to do something social beyond school (and boy doesn't that make him sound like a loser) and he thinks he might have gotten a little too overenthusiastic about it. Well, Dick said it was fine but even after the coma Dick's only here every once in a blue moon and Jason isn't sure if he should take Dick's advice to heart when the man's been running around in tights since the day he was born. Plus Jason still remembers that Dick is a lying liar who lies when he thinks something would be funny or was trying to cover his ass. (Yes, he still holds that mask acne incident against him! Barbie laughed at him, Dick! Sure he now has photo evidence of Pizza Face Grayson, but still!) Everything fits him perfectly despite that last second growth spurt that finally started showing up. A tiny thing, barely an inch but it was enough to finally push him past 5ft so he's happy. His tunic fits perfectly and the stitching has an Alfred seal of approval. His armor is light, the leather looks good despite being made from old scraps of Bruce and Dick's outgrown clothes that have too much wear and tear to pass down. The cape swishes just the way he remembers, though a deep red instead of canary yellow. He decided against only tights by wearing some sturdy shorts over them, like an adventurer would, everything color matched for the time period. He looks up at Babs who's giving him a bemused look and he puffs out his chest indigently. "What?" he says tersely. "Nothing nothing," comes the amused sing song, the kind she gets when she's teasing Dick. "I just didn't expect this to be the result of introducing you to online gaming." Jason's cheeks warm but he has nothing to be ashamed of. Sure he's become...a geek after the accident. But he has friends, like actual friends close to his age that go to his school and not just co-workers six years older than him or a penpal from across the country. Plus Jason can admit he was a nerd before becoming a combo nerd/geek so it's not like his reputation took a hit. "Nothing wrong with immersion," he says. Babs gives him a wry grin. "Nothing wrong with impressing Tim you mean?"
And Jason couldn't even be mad at Barbie about that because she's absolutely right. Tabletop was Tim's thing, and Jason was excited to try it out, but it was absolutely a new thing for him. All of this was new to Jason. After being stuck with nothing but a computer for months on end any social skills Jason might have had have atrophied and what little that remains has made Jason the picture perfect geek. And he really didn't want to screw up this friendship when it was the lifeline that Jason used to actually talk to people in real life and not in front of a screen. Well, people that aren't maladjusted larpers punching criminals. "Seriously Barbie, does it look good? I don't wanna embarrass myself," Jason mumbles. This time Barbara does laugh and its just as embarrassing as the last time. "Ah, what's the world come to. Robin, the boy wonder himself, worried that he's going to embarrass his best friend in front of his Wizards and Warlocks group," she says wiping an imaginary tear from her eye. "It's Trailblazer," Jason says automatically, already having corrected Bruce, Dick, and Alfred about this for weeks. Barbara starts laughing again and Jason resists the urge to stomp out like a child. It wouldn't be dramatic anyhow, he isn't wearing shoes and he refuses to stomp in his fantasy footwear that's basically just a metal band around his arch for support. Once she stops laughing she finally takes pity on Jason. "You look fine Little Bird. I don't see anything sticking out, and the outfit looks amazing. Your little fey prince character is gonna knock it out of the park," she says and Jason feels warm enough that he doesn't even correct her that he's a halfling-changeling and not a fey anything, much less a prince.
That warmth stays with him until he's in front of Tim's door. It's then that he thinks that maybe going all out was a terrible idea. He knows that some people dress up, but it isn't like a mandatory thing. And Tim didn't say anything about needing to dress up for Jason's first tabletop night. But Jason had been so excited. Tim didn't even finish his invitation before Jason already had a dozen designs scrambling in his head and started creating a character piece by piece. He was dragging out knowledge he hasn't touched since he was Robin. Fashion design, historical trends, and how to use them to create something tangible with the sewing lessons he had begged Alfred for back when he wanted to learn every practical skill he could. In case he got dropped like a sack of steaming shit. Crap what if they think Jason's a nerd? He had read that Traiblazer book cover to cover and made notes like it was a reading assignment! To be authentic to the setting! In case Tim's friend Ives wanted to "Um actually" Jason's meticulously created backstory and full lineage and npcs he built and sent to Tim weeks ago. Shit, maybe Jason's more of a loser than he thought if he thinks a wizards and warlocks group is too cool for him.
He thinks about calling Alfred to pick him up and make a lie about the campaign being cancelled. Maybe he can persuade Bruce to send him back to public school instead of Gotham Academy. Then he can forget all about Tim and his goofy smile and how he puts his foot in his mouth and how cute he looked when he asked Jason to join in this game because he wanted to share something about himself with— Jason's thoughts are cut off when the door opens. He looks up, eyes wide with anxiety in his stupid changeling halfling outfit without any shoes because he wanted to be authentic. The guy across the doorway was tall, taller than Jason (but who isn't) and taller than Tim (also not an accomplishment), blonde with glasses. "Are you sure this guy's a senior, Tim," he says and Jason has to stop himself from punching out Tim's other friend.
Tim's head then pokes out of the door, funny wizard hat and all and just stares at Jason. For a full minute. It gets awkward fast but neither Jason or the other guy know what to say before Jason takes the plunge. "Hey, I'm Jason, you must be Ives?" he says forcing all his nerves as deep down as he can. Ives nods, "Sebastian Ives, don't call me by my first name." It isn't until introductions are done that Tim comes back online. "Hey! Jason! Wow! Your costume is really good! A changeling right?!" he says loudly, cheeks and ears a bright pink.
#jason todd#tim drake#barbara gordon#jaytim#trailblazer is the dc equivalent of Pathfinder#the general gist of this is that when Jason was beaten he survived and was in a coma. Then spent a long time in physical therapy#his only real social life was Alfred since Bruce would rarely look at him. the doctors. and occasionally Dick or Babs (Babs more often)#She introduced him to online gaming and he sorta got obsessed with nothing else to do so his social skills are...weak#starts school and finds one kid with Jason's special interest as a button on his backpack and before you know it Jason is rizzing a friend#other notes: Jason does actually hit his canon height of 6ft by around the same time (18-19)#his birthday just happens to be in August so he'll have graduated#by then and he's a late bloomer#Azol's words

Wrong Ticket
Danny bought a plane ticket to travel to Goshen, Indiana to visit his father's family. Apparently his aunt was very excited to meet him, and Jazz was excited to send him away from the lab after his accident.
She was worried that she would have to spend a few days scouting colleges, and Danny would be left home unguarded (she wouldn't make that mistake twice, her parents didn't count as good guards and Danny would be too bored since he was on school holidays), so the invitation from their uncles was like a miracle fallen from heaven.
Unfortunately for Danny, his family didn't check the ticket after purchasing it, and therefore they didn't notice the error where "Goshen, Indiana" was changed to "Gotham, New Jersey," so when the airline called his flight, Danny didn't notice his destination. He practically fell asleep a few seconds after entering the plane.
Danny wished he had been paying attention when a few hours later he found himself stranded on the streets of Gotham with nothing but his luggage and a little money. Though that last seemed more of a risk than a benefit if he took into account the way they watched him as he passed.
As if that wasn't enough, it seemed that something strange was starting to happen to him, there were moments where his backpack would slip from his grip, almost as if he was walking through it, and others where he felt invisible. This did not go unnoticed by the denizens of Gotham, who were assessing him with clear interest.
Red Hood, who had noticed the guy (possibly meta) stumbling into his territory, sighed and offered him a temporary place to stay. Danny, who just met the strange guy in the red helmet, was relieved to have temporary lodging, though he would probably look for another place the next day. Just in case.
#dpxdc#Danny's accident happened during the holidays#Jazz was not going to risk it#The second their uncles offered she immediately accepted in Danny's name#Danny was curious so he accepted too#dp x dc#dc x dp#The Fentons lived on a farm so there was no phone signal and therefore neither Jazz nor her parents expected Danny to call#Danny's phone was also stolen within seconds of entering Gotham#Jason offered him asylum after hearing rumors of the meta the Rogues were trying to lure and noting that he was a teenager#He won't allow meta trafficking in Crime Alley#Although he won't tell Bruce either#Danny doesn't fully trust Jason but it's more for Gotham than his helmet and secret identity#He thinks Red Hood is an eccentric boy#All of this also means that Danny's transformation and status as a Halfa was discovered in Gotham#he was discovering things in a slightly different way#Although the battles stayed the same simply with rogues instead of ghosts

Do you think that the people of Gotham are ever just trying to enjoy their day and then see one of the Waynes walk into the cafe they’re at or go to the movies at the same time as them, and think, “Great, my chances of being a part of a hostage situation has just been raised by 20-40%”

its kinda crazy that yall will apply real world politics and situations to gotham when it comes to jason and his ‘vigilantism’, but never choose to take that angle when analyzing any other bat character’s
brother eye from batman? hello? does constant nonconsensual surveillance seem like an ethical way to keep an eye on supposed allies or stop crime in real life? does beating people up until they comply with u (under fucking duress) seem like the ethical way to produce testimonies and confessions?
but nah, one speech from jason in utrd and yall are up in arms about how nothing he’s saying is actually conducive to lowering crime rates.
at the end of the day, it doesn’t fucking matter who’s right and who’s wrong regarding these morals in real life because the dc universe is so fucking far from reality in the crime that the justice system has to deal with. there is no point in arguing a reality standpoint if its not going to be applied to vigilantism in the bat comics as a whole.
and on the topic of fiction, the willful ignorance as to how jason’s story also portrays a victims revenge/justice is just boring at this point. how are themes in a narrative not coming through to you. especially when doing literature analysis for any of these comics.
#jason todd#red hood#dc#batman#dcu#why dont u guys ever choose to argue about smth past the surface level conflict#and why is it always argued in terms of a realistic justice system#violence is always gonna breed more violence yes thats a fucking given#but do I also think killing someone like the joker will yield that same result? no not fucking rlly#bc we’re talking about gotham and batman comics#stay tuned I will be releasing a long awaited (bc im too fucking lazy to try and get my thoughts down) about the rlly fucking narly aspects#of bruce and jasons difference in morals#lets get real personal im no longer interested in morality im interested in character motivations and#rationales#I wanna know talk about WHY bruce and jason think the way they do and why they’ve chosen not to cross to the other side/abandon their side#not whether they’re right or wrong#this tumblr is just me regurgitating the same damn sentiments over and over again but with no pay off#I have to say it every day for every time that I see it happening with no change

As a child, Dick liked to tease Bruce by dropping his voice as low as it would go and mimicking the Batman voice.
As an adult, Dick stares at the tattered cowl clutched tight in hands crusted with his fathers blood and thinks of how much it used to hurt his throat.
Why does it always have to hurt with Bruce?
#implied context now made explicit: Bruce bleeds out in front of dick and dicks hands are bloody from trying to stop it with no supplies#in his last moments Bruce gives dick his cowl in an act dick interprets as Bruce passing on Batman to him#he doesn’t want it and hates that he feels like this#views it as Bruce’s final act of love and cruelty in their relationship#he does it anyway because no matter what has happened between them he’s always loved and been loyal to Bruce#Bruce meant it as a symbol of Batman being laid to rest with the one person he trusts to do it: his first Robin#the one person who truly knows its weight getting rid of it for good#a tattered mask taken away and given to dick in the same way dick gave his Nightwing suit to Bruce in Nightwing vol one#for safekeeping and out of love and remembrance#not a desire for it to be carried on#dick grayson#dc#nightwing#Batman#bruce Wayne#I make myself sick actually#angst#I’d be mad but I was the one that thought of it#dc comics

Sometimes the previous Robins forget they don't use the name anymore and this has caused a few misunderstandings in multiple occasions.
Batman: Robin, you'll cover my back.
Nightwing: On it, B.
Batman: ...I said Robin.
Nightwing: Wha- Oh.
Nightwing: Robin, stay out of this!
Red Hood: You don't tell me what to do!
Robin: He's talking about me.
Red Hood:...
Nightwing: Welcome to the club.
Alfred: If the news are to be trusted, I believe Robin was shot in battle?
Tim: What? No, I was-
Damian: A bullet it's nothing to me, Pennyworth.
Alfred: Then removing it will be a walk in the park. Now, the medbay is waiting, master Damian.
Damian: Tt.
...
Alfred: And master Timothy...?
Tim:... In my defence, Red Robin is basically the same thing.
Alfred: It's quite all right, sir. You wouldn't be the first one.
Batman: Robin!
Nightwing: B?
Red Hood: What do you want?
Red Robin: Yes?
Robin: Tt.
Red Hood: Damn it.
Red Robin: It's Red Robin, okay? Red.Robin. ShitIthoughtIwasoverthis.
Nightwing: Well, this is awkward...
Batman:
Batman: We'll talk about this after patrol.
Bonus:
Steph: You know, Cass, I'm starting to think being Robin for only two months was for the best.
Cass: Agree.
Duke: Second that. I knew telling Bruce I wouldn't be another Robin was a good idea.
