Okay I will admit I was nervous going into Chalice of the Gods but I did love it

#ive been so distanced from the riordanverse since blood of olympus and i was very scared because this book is my og babies again #but rick pulled it off #were there things i didnt like? such as him forgetting Percy wore the invisibility cap before? yeah #and i wish there had been some more dialogue and meaningful conversations between characters. he's still shying away from that lately #which is disappointing #but im intrigued about what hes setting up and the little moments hes weaving in #we're still getting hints of percy's extreme power. like him with the river god?#rick what does it all MEAN #dont be a coward and commit to it #plus percy's growing resentment towards the gods and their treatment of everyone they see as less than them #give me the dark!percy storyline #but i also loved percy wavering on new rome (sorry girlies i am a new rome hater first and foremost)#and him mourning the fact that he wont be at chb much anymore #which i still think is so stupid but whatever im dealing with it #i loved all the callbacks to the og series. bit surprised rhea was introduced so casually but whatever #i feel like that could have been very cool #and the god of old age! gary! THAT was a great scene but again rick you can give us more #its okay the feelings and emotional dialogue wont hurt you #anyway im hopeful #this was just a first book in a trilogy so im hoping we'll get more into the deeper and darker themes as we go just like with pjo #you can do it rick #riordanverse #pjo #percy jackson #percy jackson and the olympians #chalice of the gods #yes i finally read it today because i am finally reading again after weeks of work kicking my ass

Why is Rick Riordan (an american author) actually making me feel like i'm getting some of the best canadian representation in mainstream fiction? That line about most people not knowing canadians server in afghanistan... it's probably true. We're always overlooked, because of the stupid united states. But canada has a lot to offer too! Also, Frank's grief is...way too relatable. I lost my mom two years ago (give or take), and I'm still coping with the loss.

Frank stopped at the bathhouse entrance. He grabbed some towels from the supply shed. "She died." Percy knitted his brow. "How?" Usually Frank would lie. He’d say an accident and shut off the conversation. Otherwise his emotions got out of control. He couldn’t cry at Camp Jupiter. He couldn’t show weakness. But, with Percy, Frank found it easier to talk.

"She died in the war," he said. "Afghanistan." "She was in the military? "Canadian. Yeah." "Canada? I didn’t know – "Most Americans don’t." Frank sighed. "But, yeah, Canada has troops there. My mom was a captain. She was one of the first women to die in combat. She saved some soldiers who were pinned down by enemy fire. She … she didn’t make it. The funeral was right before I came down here."

Percy nodded. He didn’t ask for more details, which Frank appreciated. He didn’t say he was sorry, or make any of the well-meaning comments Frank always hated: "Oh, you poor guy. That must be so hard on you. You have my deepest condolences." It was like Percy had faced death before, like he knew about grief. What mattered was listening. You didn’t need to say you were sorry. The only thing that helped was moving on – moving forward.

I assume you're referring to my tag where I mentioned that Rick (not Nick) would pull the absentee father "going out for a pack of cigarettes" trick on Syd, and yes, he did do that:

So yah, Rick was certainly not an innocent party in their treatment of Syd. The way they all iced him out was shockingly unsympathetic – and they were aware of this. Undoubtedly, that's a large part of the guilt you hear coming through in their music (which, of course, has ethical complications of its own). Personally, it's Rick's keyboard in SOYCD Pt.9 is what really expresses his feelings specifically. It's so mournful, and communicates better than words ever could his sorrow for what happened to Syd and (imo) his role in it.

(this is also why I think "I Never Lied to You" is very obviously directed at the band....if not either Rick or Roger specifically)

#rick has a weird amount of cigarette lore #according to nick the reason he and roger disliked each other from the very beginning #is bc rog asked for a cig the first time they met and rog pulled the cellophane wrap off the pack #which apparently rick felt very strongly about #rick wright #pink floyd

Writing my trans Morty fic and I don’t want to have his birth name be Morti because I feel like we don’t get a lot of representation for trans people who completely changed their names but I also don’t want to come up with a random name so maybe I should just replace every instance of Morty’s birth name with [redacted]

#rick and morty #rnm #morty smith #trans morty smith #trans morty #the reason can be that rick created some sort of way of erasing morty’s birth name from existence just for him #i also think it would be more impactful if morty had a completely different birth name and then chose morty #since i’m writing this dimension’s rick to be overprotective and shielding morty from a lot of stuff #like at the point i’m writing rick is just barely starting to take morty out on (very safe) ‘adventures’#and i kind of want to have it so that this morty isn’t really aware of the whole rick and morty dynamic thing before choosing his name #since he wants to go on more adventures but this rick is hesitant #so i think it could be kind of a nice moment if morty chose the name morty completely of his own accord #without knowing anything about the citadel or anything like that #and that could be sort of a trigger event for rick bringing morty along on adventures #idk maybe that’s just me #i’m currently just using morti for the sake of writing stuff but i’m really not a fan #i think i’m funny making my little [redacted] joke but that would be so clunky in a fic #the other possibility i was playing around with was having morty’s name always be spelt as ‘morty’ since it’s shortened anyway #but i’m still not sure how i feel about that #it would be much easier to write in first person but i’m not really a fan and i don’t know if i could pull it off #i only tend to use first person in very brief moments of like characters’ thoughts or whatever #also this should go without saying but i know i have a tendency to not be clear so just want to explicitly say #there’s nothing wrong with masculinising/feminising your birth name as a trans person #or keeping your original name #but i feel like it’s very common in media made by cis people to have trans people masculinise/feminise their birth names #like disproportionate to the rate of trans people who actually do that #also when i was at school there was apparently a rumour that i was a trans guy (which was obviously true lol)#and i panicked when my friend told me thinking it was legit #until they revealed that people were saying i was going by a masculinised version of my birth name #so i knew it was fake but i think that’s part of the reason i’m not personally a fan of that in fiction

Lol we’ll see how fast I get through the show when it comes out, but I read through the new Chalice of the Gods book in literally like five hours, and it was exactly what I’d been hoping it would be 💗💗 and I just heard that Rick Riordan’s doing another book that follows Percy like the one that just came out! Wrath of the Triple Goddess comes out next fall and I literally can’t WAIT to read it!

#these books were my entire childhood lol #and it was so nice to read another book about Percy Annabeth and Grover having an adventure together #usually I hate when authors go back to something like that but not for this #Uncle Rick the only person who would pull it off perfectly #also as someone who’s done the college app process #watching Percy go through that in an even more ridiculous and annoying way than I did is therapeutic 😂#sophie speaks #asks #sophie answers #mutuals #kate 🌙
