when you first arrived at the hotel, you were pretty much fresh-meat in hell, and definitely of a different generational variety to the other residents (much to their confusion and mutual horror).

charlie welcomes you to the hotel with open arms and a huge smile - and everyone is blinded by the two balls of sunshine chatting happily in the doorway. vaggie convinces her to let you in, and you settle into the hotel extremely well.

you get along well with everyone... well, nearly everyone!

CHARLIE MORNINGSTAR

for obvious reasons, charlie adores you - your bubbly nature sharply contrasts the mellowed nature of husker, the over-the-top nature of nifty and the sneakiness that alastor maintains

but charlie isn't stupid and she obviously knows you're down here for one sinful reason or another, so she doesn't think you're harmless...

no matter how much that fluffy tail thumps against the floor, YOU ARE NOT HARMLESS

she enjoys using you as the focus point of redemption exercises - mainly because most of the residents like/are indifferent to you, and you just like everyone

planned a group fetch session one time, ended up with you passed out in the entryway the second they entered the hotel

you are her therapy dog sinner at this point, whenever she feels like she's bordering a panic attack you just poof magically appear and comfort her - using some very interesting jokes (gen z humour is honestly more traumatising than comforting, but it works in charlie's case), and allowing her to play with your tail and ears.

bought you tons of squeaky toys...

overall, is extremely happy you arrived at the hotel, and wouldn't change you for the world

VAGGIE

vaggie enjoys your presence - especially considering you seem to be about as sane as you can be, considering you're in hell and you're a sinner

like, she can have an intelligent conversation with you and then NOT feel the sudden urge to smash her head into the nearest wall (*cough* alastor *cough*)

you're her excuse to get out of the hotel, even if it's for five minutes

"i need to walk the dog" type excuse - you go along with it, because like... who doesn't enjoy walks?

despite you being a sinner, you have a lot of dog features - it's honestly hard to tell you were ever even human once upon a time, under all that fluff and fur - and you LOVE those shitty little squeaky dog toys

vaggie hates those squeaky dog toys

definitely hides them around the hotel so you can't find them

too bad you've got a sensitive sniffer and find them everytime

you stayed outside hers and charlie's room the first time she hid them, obnoxiously squeaking the toy just to be petty and kept her awake

now you just enjoy it looking for the toys, it's like a game

overall, vaggie enjoys your company - you can be very energetic and sometimes overwhelming, but you can be equally as soft and silent

she thinks she wouldn't mind you hanging around for a little while longer

ALASTOR

alastor can't stand you.

you're a dog, he HATES dogs - for many obvious reasons, of course

not that you've explicitly done anything to him, so he tolerates you - just keep an adequate distance between the two of you, and you'll be just peachy

overtime, you become accustomed to the fact that alastor will probably never like you - and you definitively become softer around him in order to accommodate to his needs

you don't necessarily know WHY he doesn't like you, but the way his eyes shift tell you that he's uncomfortable

you soften your tone of voice, make all of your movements extremely predictable and slow, and make sure to keep your pesky tail in check

overtime, this 'submissive' tactic (it's not really, but it's better to say that than to say alastor is fearful of this cheery little puppy) begins to break down alastor's carefully crafted walls

the first breakthrough was when alastor invited you to go to the library with him - you had to physically hold your tail down as it began wagging excitedly

you guys sat in the library for hours, mere inches apart from each other - your tail softly thumping against the couch, and the soft static of alastor's radio filling the air as you both read your respective books

you guys cook together (more like he cooks and you just watch excitedly, having no thoughts behind those beady puppy-dog eyes) - you have so many questions, and he answers each one with endless patience, and tells you you're a 'good dog' whenever you hand him a kitchen tool he needs

you love being called a good dog :3

overall, he's not used to you yet - but he's getting there

complete avoidance has turned into greetings, light touches here and there, and invitations to join him in his endeavours

i'd say that's a job well done

ANGEL DUST

angel had a temporary urge to taint your giddiness - it didn't last long, but long enough that the guilt of it eats him alive most days

but he adores you, and you quickly become fast friends - you act as an escape from his job, your personality so contrasting from his day-to-day

angel buys you tons of cute outfits, most of which contain chokers or pendants after you expressed that you used to wear them when you were alive - and wearing them brings you a strange sense of comfort

definitely got you a charm that said 'if lost, call angel dust xxx-xxx' and hooked it onto a little doggy collar as a gag gift

you still wore it though, and he just became absolute putty at the way your tail wagged

angel sometimes wakes up to you curled up at his side, with fat nuggets mirroring you on his other side - he doesn't mind, he actually loves the fact that he's your first comfort-call

no one snitch, but he wraps all of his arms around you and your tail thumps softly against the comforter in your sleep

in regards to angel's job, you're extremely understanding - hell is hell, and people get by in different ways

but you are FIERCELY protective of your newly found friend

in the episode where angel stands up to valentino for nifty's sake, you are trembling at husker's side - not out of fear, but out of pure anger and the desire to protect your own

however, when valentino lays hands on your precious friend? you're between them in seconds, teeth bared, ears flat against your scalp and low rumbling growls coming from your mouth

you make it very apparent you are no bark and all bite when valentino tries to bypass you to approach angel, snapping your jaws at him, and watch with mixed triumph and disgust as the moth-man scoffs and turns away

as soon as valentino is no longer in 'threat' distance, you turn to help angel to his feet - no words needed, and simply pressed your cold snout to his cheek as you felt his trembling hands in yours

from that day onwards, you pick angel up from work everyday without fail - even if it means sprinting across pentagram city just to get there on time

your consistent presence discourages valentino from keeping angel overnight, which fills you with pride - at least you rattled the fugly moth during your last encounter

overall, you're best friends - angel would burn the world for you, and you'd do the same for him, and that mutual respect for one another makes you a force to be reckoned with

you'd be surprised at how downright dirty the 'innocent' little pup could get when with the spider

HUSKER

frenemies through and through - but it's more like one-sided frenemies, because you simply have no enemies (except valentino. fuck you valentino.)

you and husker were not close AT ALL when you first arrived at the hotel, and instead opted for the stereotypical dog-cat relationship... a relationship built on pure contempt just for each others species, and spent a good portion of the first few days growling and hissing at one another

so, how did you two become fast friends considering your clear hate?

you did the one thing that proved to husker you understood how cats functioned...

you brought him a mouse!

a dead one. a dead hell mouse.

now, to everyone else in the hotel, the display was disgusting - and several of them scrambled away from the bar with shrill screams - but, to husker, it was a sign of peace

and, from that point onwards, you became friends

that's literally it

husker wouldn't mention it to anyone, but he is an absolute cuddle bug - and having you, someone with no regard for personal space, around and jumping into hugs actually soothed his stolen soul

oftentimes, you two are found comfortably lounging on the couch - limps tangled together (and tails coiled around each others)

the two of you have a habit of falling into your more animalistic urges when it's just the two of you - so mutual grooming is not uncommon, and you've woken up several times to husker's tongue dragging across your head

he definitely pretends it doesn't happen after, but you both know

you make sure to return the favour, much to his distress - considering you just kind of... slobber, everywhere

when you two fight though it's actually vicious - biting, scratching, clawing, etc. absolutely scaring the hell out of everyone

but then after like two minutes you two are like "well, that was fun!"

husker is ultimately more playful in your presence, but he's still grumpy and if he asks you to go away - you will listen, because you understand not everyday is a cuddle day

overall, husker hate-loves you - you're a solid consistent in his day-to-day afterlife now, and he can actively become more relaxed with you around... and whilst that's why he loves you, it's also why he hates you, because you make him weak

LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR

lucifer has definitely hyperfixated on several animals during all of his years in heaven and hell - so i have no doubt he hyperfixated on dogs, or some kind of canine, at one point

and you're about as humanoid-ly doggy as it gets, or as humanoid-ly doggy as he's seen

and when you show interest in his hyperfixation on ducks, you instantly become his new favourite sinner at the hotel - although you enjoy ducks simply for dog-related reasons, you also enjoy how happy lucifer seems to get when speaking about them

you make a note to yourself to never harm another duck in your entire afterlife

with lucifer being autistic, and you seemingly having adhd qualities, you perfectly compliment each other

your friendship is the definition of "he asked for no pickles" with a tiny lucifer all teary eyed in the background

after lilith left, lucifer has had difficulty in maintaining his wings - and, much to his displeasure, you walked in on him trying to preen them, and struggling to reach the harder to get places

i mean, he has 6 wings, i wouldn't look after them either

but when you offer to help, he melts - guiding and directing you on what to do and what not to do, smiling adoringly at the look of concentration on your face and the way you stick your tongue out the corner of your mouth

as a reward, he preens you in return, expressing his thanks through the subtle gesture

preening is a sign of affection with birds, and i feel he would give into those mannerisms the more he hyperfixates on ducks

overall, lucifer absolutely adores you - and although the goal for the hotel is to redeem sinners, he lowkey hopes you're never redeemed

he'd simply miss you too much

and he definitely treats you like a little kid sometimes (theoretically, you are the youngest, generationally...)

Thursdays.

If there was one thing you could say about Thursdays, it is that they are the pure feeling of going to hell and back.

Actually, scratch that. You haven't even been able to come back from this hell of a day.

Nothing had helped. Even when buying coffee in the hopes of lifting your spirits, it had been extremely too bitter and ruined the entire drink. The attempt to get a nice walk outside during your lunch break had only left you caught in a rainstorm with no protection from the harsh elements. The walk back to your next classes should have been considered a walk of shame from the stares of your fellow classmates and your pure embarrassment of not checking the weather.

The one bright side of today is that you can now finally go home.

No more dreadful professors giving useless monologues or ignorant students on campus bumping into you when trying to leave class.

Just a nice, calm, soothing night left to enjoy by yourself--

On second thought, you might actually lose your mind before the night is over.

You take out your phone from your back pant pocket as you make your way up the stairs of your dorm building, hoping that whoever texted is either dying or needing immediate assistance (both of which you doubt are true as it could very well just be Felix blowing up your phone for the 6th time this week, asking if you would finally let him teach you how to play League of Legends).

I mean yes, you could very easily just get into bed and sleep off the last torturous 9 hours of your life as you have dreamed of doing all day.

You could definitely take up Jisung's offer of eating some free food while also being able to hang out with the two men who you are absolutely infatuated with.

Yes, it's a bit of strong of a term to use when referring to two men (yuck) but it's just the truth. From the day of college orientation three years ago, when your childhood friend, Hyunjin, introduced a few of his closest friends to you (Minho and Jisung included), you have been a strong group of 9 since.

All of the boys are nice, but Minho and Jisung just happen to be the ones who have kept your attention since the first day of meeting them. From their adorable dynamic to their love for their friends, there is no reason to prevent anyone from falling in love with both of them...

other than the fact that they are already dating eachother.

Logically, it's impractical. You are the third-wheeling, pining over two men who already exclusively pine over eachother. If anything it's so damaging for you to be so close to them while having these feelings, but can anyone really say no to Jisung when he asks so sweetly.

You scratch your forehead a little while waiting for a response, wondering what you should change into before heading over there. Obviously something comfortable, but also maybe something a little nice so that they could be impressed or-- no.

They are dating. Stop. You are just friends. No romantic opportunities, unless you feel like home-wrecking your two bestfriends (probably not the best option).

And cue the stomach butterflies.

You know how to get to their dorm from the front of the building, but every time Jisung insists on coming to get you from the front door. It's such a little gesture, but it never fails to get your heart beating and you checks burning.

It takes you a few minutes before you are finally back out of your dorm, taking your time to pick an outfit, fix your hair, and retouch your makeup after the rainstorm that you struggled through earlier.

The walk to their dorm is pretty quick, only 7 minutes on a day with some good pep in your step (aka a day like today where you are practically running to their front door).

ji ji ji ji baby baby : omw, y/n! we need to eat before the food cools down too much. minho is getting hangry and I cannot handle him when he is hangry.

Jisung is downstairs in less than a minute, making it seem like he's the one who was practically running to see you. Or maybe that's just your mind trying to give in to your delusions...

"Y/N!" Jisung screams a little while picking you up into a hug, "I need us to get back upstairs quickly before Minho decides that he is tired of waiting for us."

You giggle a little at that statement, knowing that Minho would never start to eat without Jisung. He would not be able to handle the pout that would show on Jisung's face if he found out.

Thats when your heart pangs for the first time tonight, already feeling hopelessly doomed to be the third wheel before even seeing Minho.

This was going to be a long night.

Dinner is going by smoothly. The lo mein and miso soup that had been ordered by Jisung and Minho was a little odd considering you are the only one of the trio who eats lo mein, but you pushed that thought aside. The food was delicious nonetheless.

The pangs kept happening though.

When Jisung would stare at Minho with such adoration that you felt like a spectator on the sidelines of a romance show, rooting for the main characters to be together while simultaneously wishing that you were them. When Minho would get up from his seat to get something from the kitchen, having to pass by Jisung and giving him a loving pat on the head every time, causing Jisung to smile and spread a blush across his puffy cheeks.

It was getting to the point of pain where you had just needed to step out of dinner into the bathroom just to take a breather, convincing yourself that you can get over this and be able to just be best friends, nothing more.

"Y/n? Are you okay?"

It was Minho.

You hadn't really felt like you had been in the bathroom for too long to be concerning but a glance at your phone screen surprises you when you see that you had been standing there for over 15 minutes just trying to ground yourself.

A look up in the mirror is also a sudden surprise, seeing tears running down your face, leaving your makeup disheveled and streaking down your cheeks. When had you started crying? Probably sometime in between thinking about your horrid day to thinking about your pitiful love for two men who don't feel the same.

"Yeah-" sniffles "I'm all good Minho. Just-" sigh "Just give me a second and I'll be out..."

Just stop, y/n. You are not making this day better.

And then the door open a smidge. I guess you forgot to lock it.

Even though the door is barely open, it's still enough for Minho and Jisung to see your reflection in the adjacent mirror with the mascara tears running down your face.

The door is no longer open a smidge, being forcefully shoved open by Jisung as he pushes past Minho to get to you, engulfing you in a hug that only fuels the tears.

"Y/n... What's wrong? Please talk to us. Well, cry it all out first then talk to us". Jisung says while speaking into the side of your head, making you chuckle through the tears at his attempt to humor you in your times of turmoil. You wish you had a Jisung like this all of the time.

"You do have me, Y/n? What do you mean? I'm right here, so is Min."

Yikes. Nothing is going your way tonight. First, they see you sobbing. Next, you say your thoughts outloud.

This instantly humbles you and brings you back to where you are, immediately attempting to apologize for whatever you just muttered out of your mouth, "Ji- I mean- I know I have you, but like- I just- I wish I also had someone like you, you know. Like you and Minho". This was clearly such poor phrasing as you watch Jisung pull away to fully face you and give a little look of shock with confusion written across his features.

"What do you mean- Like me and Jisung? You want a boyfriend, y/n? Is that what this is about?" Minho announces this from behind Jisung, making you unable to see the slight look of hurt that flashes on his face.

You look up from where you had been looking at your feet, trading your eyes between looking at both Minho and Jisung. Your brain is being wrestled right now while trying to find the words to explain how you don't want just any boyfriend but the two boyfriends who were standing in front of you.

"Not that, exactly..." You finally manage to mutter out after bullying your mind to produce any answer to stop the two from looking at you with such concern and hurt for you. "I just can't explain my problems to you two..." You look away from the two boys, not being able to watch them as you try not to break down further.

"Y/n if this is something serious, you can talk to us..." MInho pipes up, Jisung grabbing your hand for reassurance, causing you to turn your head back toward them.

Your logical side seems to be taking over for the first time, in a long time, telling you to do what you know needs to be done for your own sake.

"I think I should take a break from seeing you guys..." You finally said it. The words you knew needed to come out eventually to allow yourself time to heal and get over this silly infatuation.

But, the look that you then saw on their faces might have just killed you right then and there. You don't think you have ever seen them both be so in sync with their expressions, synchronizing their faces of hurt and sadness in a way you didn't know you could hurt so much from.

"You.. What? Why?" Jisung asks, his voice cracking a little and letting go of your hand to step back towards Minho, allowing Minho to leave a comforting hand on Jisung's shoulder.

If you wanted to run away ever in your life or sink into a black hole, it would be now. The embarrassment of this whole situation and your reasoning behind why you need to do this just simply cannot be explained to them without ruining everything.

"Did we do something?" Minho asks with no faults in his voice, but a single look you take towards him shows that he really is trying to maintain his composure.

If there's anytime to say anything. It'd be now. Your relationship is already changed. There's no going back.

"It's not you guys. It's me," You say while looking at both of them, powering through what you are about to say even with seeing their heartbroken faces, "I just cannot do this anymore. Being around you two all of the time is so painful because you guys are just so happy and in love, and I would do anything to be like you. Not with other people..." Here it goes. "but with both of you. I cannot handle being around you guys while I am helplessly in love with you both. Just give me some time, and I know I can get over this..."

Well. There it is.

You finally said what has been torturing you for years, laying it all out on a platter for Minho and Jisung to observe and pick apart.

But thats not the reaction you get from them when you check back in to register their facial expressions. It's bizarre. Minho looks almost relieved while Jisung looks.... happy? Where you missing something? Was this what they wanted to happen?

Before your thoughts can go any further, you are tossed into a hug between both Jisung and Minho, rocking you back and forth and holding you so tightly.

"Are you serious, Y/n? You actually had me so horrified I thought we were going to lose you" Jisung mutters into your shoulder.

You are still so incredibly confused as you manage to let out a quiet, "...What?..."

You are finally released from the grasp of the two hugging you to be faced toward Jisung, "Me too. I mean- like I am in love with you, too. So is Minho."

This information actually shatters any ability to function that you had left, only being able to repeat the word "Huh?!" while looking at Minho to confirm what Jisung said, to which Minho nods.

"We always have, Y/n. We just didn't really know what to do about this because you never told us anything or made it seem like this was mutual. I thought we would always be stuck as bestfriends." MInho says this so gently to you while reaching up one of his hands to cup the side of your face and caress your cheek so lightly with his thumb. I think this is the first time you have ever recognized Minho looking at you this way. It's the same way you notice him and Jisung look at each other everyday.

"You guys love me?..." You manage to get out while bringing up a hand to hold Minho's hand that is resting on your cheek. This is a surreal moment for you. What you have been fearing as the break in your relationship as a trio may actually be what causes your relationship to grow further, into....???

A nod comes from MInho, "Can I kiss you?" he asks ever so sweetly.

A simple nod is given in return, a silent conversation that you and him exchange in before he initiates the kiss.

It feels like a dream. Finally being able to feel his lips on your own after years of pining. By holding onto the back of his head, you keep him close to make sure that this is real, and he isn't leaving.

That then makes you think about Jisung, who's simply standing to the side, mouth agape and blushing across his entire face at the two people he loves kissing eachother. To Jisung, this is like a dream come true, but he does want some attention from you (casual Jisung behavior).

He tightly grabs ahold of your side, turning you away from Minho and guiding you towards his own lips. The moment you and him meet is as electric as it was with Minho.

The pangs in your heart are no longer from the pain of unrequited love, but now a pleasurable pain of an overwhelming love from those two boys who have captured your heart.

Maybe this day has finally had its come back from being a burning hell, reaching the sweet and blissful heavens that we all dream of.

What are some hopes for season 8?

Ohhhh, can we go character by character? Let's do!

Bobby: He gets his job back, but maybe not the 118 at first. Obviously he gets back eventually, but seeing him out of his element with a whole new team would be interesting. I'd also like to see his silly side again, like how he was with Michael when they had their "stakeout". Maybe he and Tommy could team up (and we'd get to see a silly side of Tommy too).

Athena: Leave Amir alone, for one! I'd like to see her recognize that she went about things wrong with him, and maybe does a little soul searching along the way. I love Athena, but she went overboard and there should be repercussions for that.

Buck: Obviously, I want his relationship to continue to grow with Tommy. Outside of relationship stuff, I'd like to see him struggle with Gerrard as his captain. I want some Bobby/Buck father/son talks too. I want him to be upset that Bobby didn't tell him he was leaving in the first place. Abandonment issues, perhaps?

Eddie: He's gotta pull himself up and learn how to live with his grief instead of trying to fight against it. It's a losing battle, I know firsthand. I want Christopher to come back, and for Eddie to work on himself without any relationships (he is not in the right headspace for anyone).

Hen: She gets her daughter back. The congresswoman gets fired. She stands up to Gerrard like the badass she is. She's been through so much that I kinda want her to have a break from all the heavy emotional stuff, kinda like Buck got this year.

Chim: I want him to be a leader. I know he doesn't think he'd be a good captain, but I want him to be forced to lead and to realize he'd actually be great- he just has to be himself instead of trying too hard. I'd like Albert to come back, cause I think they play well off of each other. Maybe he and Maddie decide to adopt a kid of their own.

Maddie: Again, maybe adopt a kid. I would really like an episode with her and Josh outside of the call center. Something crazy happens and they have to help each other. I love their dynamic. They make a great team! Also, she and Buck need more scenes together, always.

Ravi: I just need more of him! I want a Ravi Begins episode. I want to see more about his childhood and growing up with cancer. I want him to be part of Team Who Cares™ next year because that group DEFINITELY has to get back together and kick some ass next season.

Tommy: If we don't get a Tommy Begins episode I will not know what to do with myself. I need to know more about his past. I need to see him under pressure. I need an episode where Buck is injured and Tommy has to help (or vice versa). I need drama, I need angst, I need those boys to be there for each other through it all.

Sometimes I read bottom Dan fic from a few years ago and I'm like "who are these people?" lol. It's like people totally disregarded Phil's personality in order for him to fit the stereotypical mold they'd cast him in. It was the same for Dan tbh. Lbr the only reason why people thought Dan was the bottom is bc he's younger and more outwardly feminine than Phil. The idea that bottom= submissive and top= dominate is flawed anyway, but also...Dan is not submissive. He's quite bossy and controlling. In the past, I'd even say he could be domineering. I don't see their dynamic as even being Dom/sub tbh. It's more of a playful power struggle. Except Dan fights by asserting dominance and Phil fights by being cute and whining until Dan gives in or being an absolute menace and annoying Dan into submission lmao

someone recently said that they can tell who of us have been actively engaged in diverse irl queer communities (clubs, bars, sports leagues, activism groups, etc) vs who of us haven’t and i’ve been thinking about that a lot in regards to this. obviously nothing wrong with not engaging with your irl queer communities, some people don’t have access or don’t feel comfortable or simply don’t want to and all of that is fine - but you do have to work harder to unlearn a lot of heteronormative concepts like these and you have to familiarize yourself with queer culture and history (outside of social media). people’s outward presentations of masculinity and femininity have nothing to do with their sexual preferences, and dan has shared that exact sentiment in so many words (wondering if people think he’s a bottom because he’s slightly more feminine, and then discouraging that narrative as a whole). i also think there was a lot of hyperbolizing with their masculine and feminine presentations, because for a long time dan really was not that feminine and phil really was not that masculine. they were both emo nerd boys who played video games and drank too much soda. even now with personas like sister daniel, that really is not the height of femininity in queer culture or drag culture.

i think there’s also something to be said about people’s lack of familiarity with queer culture showing in people’s thoughts on them being in an open relationship and also 2009 bottom dan.

i don’t particularly care about the open relationship discourse one way or another, but a lot of mlm relationships are open. there are studies and statistics on this, gay men are the most comfortable and open to open relationships. if they hooked up with people when dan was touring or even just someone every now and then, it wouldn’t be as shocking as some people make it out to be. i also think there’s a problem with people conflating open relationships with polyamory, and those two things are often very different. people in open relationships tend to be committed to each other, but will sometimes want to have noncommittal sex with other people. polyamory is having multiple committed relationships (romantic or sexual). clingy phil and possessive dan having noncommittal sex with other people wouldn’t change that they’re still clingy x possessive. and if you’re actively engaged in irl queer communities vs online echo chambers you’ll learn this.

i’m getting way off course here lol but then in regards to people thinking 2009 dan was bottoming as a default, that’s been a pet peeve of mine since forever because it shows a lack of familiarity with mlm relationships. it’s extremely unlikely that dan’s first gay sexual experiences were being on the receiving end of anal sex, that takes time to get used to (with yourself and with a partner) and often isn’t most men’s first gay sexual position. they also weren’t together long enough until phil got his first apartment to have dan be familiar enough with anal to take phil’s dick every time he visited. i know everyone thinks little twink dan taking phil’s big dick is so hot, but big dicks can be painful and are something you work yourselves towards. and y’know, who knows what actually went on in that bedroom so much cherry everywhere, but i do think we should dispel some of these beliefs that again are playing into heteronormativity (little feminine dan taking big masculine emo phil)

dan has always been bossy and controlling and he was quite confident with the people he was comfortable around (phil + other youtubers + his audience) and then grew to be a confident person in general. i see them as a real brat x brat relationship with them being bratty in different ways (bossy/teasing vs whiney/pushing buttons).

I’m gonna make some loosely based predictions or possibilities for next season. I’m not expecting anything to actually happen or any details to be right. It’s just some ideas I’ve had or things I want to see.

(Gerrard is the most straight forward so this part mostly focuses on what the hell i think they could be using him for.) Obviously we know Gerrard is going to be terrible. But like there’s a lot of ways they can go. I think he might try and make them turn on each other, but I really doubt that’d work

We got the still from Tim of Ortiz and Gerrard so definitely a connection there, god I hope whatever plan that woman has backfires because you don’t have to ignore your pain but lashing out in this way has to lead to consequences for her. But this means he might target Hen again with more pointed bigotry and racism because Ortiz might of had a hand in bringing him back. So he might be out for her specifically. Which I’d hate but I wouldn’t put it past him.

Chim and Ravi he’ll obviously be racist and rude towards but the details I don’t really know. Well chim he’ll probably make the cleaning boy again after what Chim said to him at the ceremony. But Ravi being the newest of the bunch from A shift he might haze and treat like a probie and just discredit everything Ravi does.

Buck and Eddie are the interesting ones here. For Buck it’s Tommy. Like they’ve already established a connection between Tommy and Gerrard. So I think Gerrard will be rude and homophobic towards Buck because he’s dating Tommy. I could see him trying to make Buck doubt he knows Tommy and that’ll have Buck and Tommy really sit down and talk about each other and who they are. But I doubt that’ll be anything major because I doubt Buck would let Gerrard make him doubt Tommy.

Also with Buck being the only white man in their group with Bobby being gone, he’s kinda in that spot Tommy was in in the begins episodes. Buck won’t put up with Gerard’s racism and bigotry but still there’s a parallel there.

Eddie I think will be interesting to see the direction they take with him losing Chris for a bit and also him trying to figure out who he is outside of being a firefighter and a parent. And I think Ryan has already talked about Gerrard a bit in connection to where Eddie is at the end of the season. Something about Gerrard kinda being like the man Eddie was raised to be in a way, no emotions macho man, obviously minus the racism and bigotry. So that’ll be something I look forward to them exploring. Like I mean figuring it what Ryan meant not Eddie and Gerrard interacting.

I don’t really know where they’re gonna go with the councilwoman Ortiz plot line so I’m not going to make any guesses on that. And Eddie, I think it’ll be rough for him but I do think this storyline will end with him finally figuring out who he is when he is alone. And Bobby and Athena obviously need a new home, but I can’t predict anything for them it’s just too open. But please give Athena plot lines that don’t center around her being a cop, the season finale was way more than I was comfortable with.

Now on to some happier things I want to see.

I want more Buck and Tommy conversations, dates, and things showing how they’re growing as people and as a couple. And I don’t know why but I’d love to see them go on a date and go stargazing. Like I dunno that would be stupidly cute.

More Mara and Denny, please just more of them. I love how they’re portrayed.

On that train of thought, I want more Henren family time with Mara. I also kinda want to see if Jee will be a part of the Denny, Mara dynamic now that the Hans (Chim and Maddie) are fostering her. More madney and Henren interactions too, I adored how Karen and maddie are being shown with the hen and chim dynamic.

Obviously more Ravi and different Ravi dynamics shown with the cast.

We’ve gotten a tiny bit of Tommy lore from before the begins episodes. But obviously I want more and more of his dynamics with the others. Gimme more Chim, hen and Tommy.

Also I think it would be good to show Eddie and Tommy’s dynamic again. Especially since Eddie is pretty alone right now. I could see Tommy helping Eddie start the process of figuring out who you are. Not saying this as in Eddie realizing he’s not straight, but like figuring out who you are outside of your job, past, and family. With their shared military background I think Tommy could help Eddie with that.

There’s a lot more thoughts to this but my brain is bad at explaining them so this is what I’ve got. Wish I could do more on the predictions and possibilities like more than just what a terrible person Gerrard is going to be. But that’s all way too up in the air for me to make any cohesive thoughts and predictions on.

Seriously though, thanks for giving me an excuse to yap. As much as I am an enjoyer of fandom shipping, I am also a friendmaxxing visitorpilled individual and while I'm a strong proponent of pretty much every Baldur's Gate 3 Origin character being friends to some degree, I have my favourites, and Lae'zel, Gale, and Astarion are a trio I find particularly compelling. Maybe just because my first playthrough I exclusively travelled with them and loved their shared dialogue. So! THE DYNAMIC (as I see it.)

This is gonna be a long post. Oops.

Gale + Astarion

The one that I like equally as a romantic and platonic venture. I'm gonna be real, I tend to like these two as an actual romantic pairing- but that's irrelevant here. I've been over the lighter reasons why I think they'd be the ultimate pompous wine aunts of the group before, but there's a bit more to it than that.

Asides from shared aesthetic and literary interests, when I say I think they like each other in a surprisingly uncomplicated way despite their personal complexities, I truly do mean it that way. I feel that Gale is the type of person Astarion could truly come to cherish as a friend, once he's in a better place personally. He's startlingly authentic, giving Astarion a space to be as well, should he wish, rather than keep up his entirely charming facade- kind to others while also being... morally flexible enough to pique Astarion's interest and to avoid making him feel like he's being monitored by someone TOO well-intentioned (because I love Astarion, but he IS a bit of a bastard and will be forever, I reckon). On Gale's front, I genuinely think a part of him would feel incredibly vindicated by having a friend in Astarion- someone who would unabashedly encourage his ambitions and wilder interests (but whom I believe would still have his best interests vaguely at heart). Obviously that can take a darker turn under some scenarios- but I like to think that Astarion's playfulness and willingness to embrace his curiosity and passion about the stranger and more... reckless side of his work could be freeing to him. Like having that one friend that finally listens to you when you say "hear me out" and only intervenes if it's a TRULY bad take. Someone he can actually be mischevious with- because Gale IS a bit of a little shit himself, when he's given the freedom to be without guilt.

Gale + Lae'zel

This is the unusual friendship that I go the hardest about. I am so normal about them and what they could mean to each other. Lae'zel is incredibly dismissive of Gale initially, as she is with most of the others- but she's incredibly soft towards him by gith standards starting from the moment he demonstrates genuine respect and curiosity towards her and her people. Assessing his physical combat skills as less-than-deal shortly after meeting him, she even goes so far as to offer to *literally* train him in gith combat tactics shortly into your journey. That is not an offer I think Lae'zel makes lightly, or out of pragmatism alone. Is it because she sees him as weak? Yes. But it's also because she sees him as capable enough to become stronger, and worth training so that he is no LONGER weak. Most githyanki would not do that for another, especially one they had not met. Lae'zel is incredibly kind and giving to the others from the get-go no matter what anyone says about her "attitude"- putting her life and the code of ethics she lives by on the ropes to help a bunch of outsiders from the very start- but she is especially so to him, someone which many of her people may have outright discarded as useless.

From there, she starts to answer some of his questions. I like to think he talks to her about Faerun in turn for every question he asks- recognizing that the earth is as alien to her as she is to it. That's a good start for any friendship, really- mutual curiosity.

And then it gets stronger, as their personal struggles are revealed. The moment Lae'zel begins to waver in her faith and her dedication to Vlaakith is right around the same moment she hotly declares Mystra a fool for "demanding that Gale place all her faith in her and giving him none in return". She defends him against a literal god, declaring him capable and part of a mighty group- a stunning turn from her initial assessment. She balks at the idea of sacrificing him when she believes so firmly that it's an unnecessary waste of a skilled man. Possibly one she now considers a friend.

They are, in many ways, similar. Groomed in different senses by gods/god-like powers that only sought to milk them for all they were worth and then discard them when convenient. Manipulators of a celestial variety- the type of people who leave you with the realization that your entire life has been wasted serving them. Both of them were even wanted for their power- Laezel for her unwavering loyalty and militant prowess, Gale for his magical ability.

So, TLDR: They have, from the beginning, connected to each other via mutual understanding. They go through shocking life changes together and find solace in finding understanding in someone whose struggle initially seemed so alien to the other. From there, I feel like they'd genuinely find more casual things to bond over as Lae'zel discovers her enjoyment of Faerun and its wonders. No one would go ham over having a friend newly excited to learn about the world than Gale "could talk at length about anything" Dekarios.

Astarion + Lae'zel

This doesn't seem right at first, right? Poncey (lovingly) vampire meets unwaveringly stoic alien warrior. Except there's something ruthless and downright STURDY about Astarion that I can see Lae'zel quietly appreciating from the beginning. She can tell that he's willing to go the distance- even if they butt heads over her revulsion concerning the tadpoles and Astarion's attempts to wheedle the group into using them for their own gain. I feel like respect is shockingly easily earned for him on her front. In turn, I feel like Astarion is quite wary of her first- but honestly? He might be vaguely assuaded by the fact that Gale, arguably the most vulnerable of them all, just seemingly wanders around chatting with her intermittently without losing any limbs or being verbally abused. He also definitely clocks right off the bat in that scheming way of his that she'd be an incredibly helpful ally to have.

Except she's not easily seduced, or swayed by charm and friendly platitudes. Instead, I think the thing Lae'zel would silently begin to appreciate about him first is the subtle ways he shows interest in the world around him- his dialogue about not remembering how much colour there was in the world, and the like. As someone who's learning to love her new surroundings bit by bit, I can see her sympathizing with his newfound adoration of the daylight and outdoors he was deprived of for so long.

Later, she wholeheartedly supports Astarion's campaign to be rid of Cazador, and he even gleefully states "good for her" when she decides to turn her back on Vlaakith- so I reckon they're another check on the front of "friends bonding over overthrowing those who have been unrighteously in charge of them for so long". The circumstances are highly different, but the sentiment is shared: fuck that guy, I won't be their puppet anymore.

Finally, in the ending where Lae'zel chooses to stay on Faerun and forge her own fate exploring a new world, I can see her and Astarion working together- both enjoying their newfound freedom from cause and control and absorbing all the joys of a *functionally* new world for the both of them. With the aid of their far more local wizard friend who's less prone to the battlefield, of course. I can see them teaming up for a glorious adventure or two easily. Battle buddies, and the like.

some interesting twitter discussion i encountered today, piggybacking off a tiktok screenshot of an either late-teens girl or early 20-something woman saying "i wish i could be friends with boys the way that boys are friends with boys". the guy side of twitter chimes in, basically saying that whenever they had women express this to them, they reacted poorly to stuff that's pretty common in guy group friendships. the woman side of twitter is screenshotting these and saying shit like "ack, for all this talk of male loneliness, isn't it interesting how these guys talk about friendship in a way that's antisocial and boorish!"

it's always really something to see conversations like this happen, because it's a very clear expression of someone not being familiar with the social nuances in a setting they haven't really spent time in. and on top of that, it being so alien to them that they don't even realize they're wearing this lack of experience on their sleeve.

this is hard to put into words and there are probably a few things i'm missing here, but in my experiences of being the only woman in a friend group, Guys Being Dudes social culture involves a lot of giving each other shit, but not in a way that's mean. it's more like a signal that indicates you being a part of the same group. it's not like there aren't any generic insults that fly like "hey, you dipshit", but what's more common are insults that show you're paying attention – "hey, you dipshit that's always tripping over because you don't know how to tie your own shoes." it shows you actually notice what that person is like lol. and that person has the right to come back at you, and it's kind of a give and take. it's a game. there are bad dynamics that can sometimes come out of this, where someone is picking on someone else too much and there are awkward dominance displays going on. but for the most part, it's mostly just clowning around.

and – not always, obviously – this stuff drives a lot of women nuts. and as you get older, you move away from acting like this around people who will be bothered with it, because out of the context of a friend group, it's rude. but "we give each other shit for fun, and that's how we know that we're friends" has a lot of connecting power under the right circumstances.

there's a scene in "jackass: forever" where jason acuna is staked to the ground and a vulture is picking cuts of meat off his body, and the bird pecks him and he starts spasming and kicking (it's been known to happen when you get pecked by a bird with a giant beak). and one of the guys off screen is like, "don't kick the bird, dude" and acuna says, "i'm not kicking the bird!" but he's mad that someone would suggests that he would kick the bird. he understands that the bird is an outsider. the bird isn't in on the joke! nobody wants to be mean to the bird here. it's all about what's happening to acuna. this is obviously a pretty extreme version of the thing i'm talking about but, eh, it works for my purposes.

and it's not like it stays this juvenile forever. you grow up. life happens. but having this foundation in a friend group of 5+ doesn't prevent you from talking about life stuff together. even if this type of camaraderie doesn't make a lot of sense to you on the surface, that doesn't mean it's not tried and true. and, tbh, i get the sense that a lot of the men who struggle with pervasive feelings of loneliness probably *aren't* part of a group dynamic like this.

Your relationship didn’t make sense to anyone looking in from the outside. Quinn on the other hand, he nearly always looked like he was going through an existential crisis. He could go hours without speaking, lost in his own thoughts.

It shocked all of his friends and teammates when the two of you announced that you were dating, especially Jack. They couldn’t figure out how the dynamic worked or how long it would last.

His hair is wet from his shower and it drips down onto your shoulder.

“It means I know you hate Valentine’s Day and I wanted to make sure I didn’t have to fly to Vancouver and take y/n out my-“ Quinn hangs up your phone before Jack can finish.

“You hate Valentine’s Day?” You question as you turn on your seat to look at your boyfriend.

He’s wearing nothing but a towel wrapped around his hips which he tugs at while avoiding making eye contact with you. “It’s not my favorite day…”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” You ask. “We don’t have to go to dinner, Quinn.”

“Yes we do!” He finally looks down at you. “You love Valentine’s Day. You decorated my entire place with pink and red hearts!”

You stand up so you’re face to face, guilt weighing you down as you realize he hated the decorations you put up. “I wouldn’t have put them up if you said-“

He stops you with a kiss. “I love the decorations because they remind me of you.” He kisses your nose. “I love you and I’ll do anything to see you smile.”

“I love you too.” Smiling, you wrap your arms around his neck. “I should call Jack back and tell him how amazing you are.”

Quinn groans and runs a hand through his wet hair. “Please don’t. He’ll think I’m a softie.”

I could see them not wanting to feed the shippers if this was the protocol with people that are shipped but that's literally not how they deal with things at all. like you said courtney and shayne have been in the thumbnails of almost every video they are together (and there was a point when things got really out of hand with the shippers, with stalking and stuff), ian and anthony are so shipped and all they do is embrace that, have fun with it without making fun of the fandom, amanda and angela also have quite the fan base and their videos together are always going up in quantity. their way of handling things never felt like "let's separate these people to not feed the shippers". most of the time it's the contrary, they lean into because they know that putting these people together, making jokes like the "my boyfriend" tag on ian in the who's slapped me with anthony, putting the shipps into thumbnails and more will get them views, will get engagement, will get people talking.

I feel like the fandom of smosh in general forget they are a whole ass company, a corporation. they goal is always to spread their content to the maximum amount of people they can get. and shipps do that perfectly. the fandom gets what they want and they get what they want, which is people watching it.

and also it's not like we are at the top of the fandoms in smosh. we are a small percentage here on tumblr for example. and we are not at all going as hard as others parts of the fandom go with their shipps. hell I don't even know if we can call ourselves shippers because we know they are not dating (some of us can feel some sparkles like myself but we are really good at being grounded in reality) what I feel like all of us that love them truly enjoy and connect it's their dynamic, the way they have such a specific relationship that we don't see between other cast members.

we are literally not asking or demanding them to date each other or to even hang out outside of work, we know they are closer with other people in the cast, we are literally just begging at this point to see them on videos together. that's all. we just want them playing games and bantering and having a gran old time with each other.

if and it's a big if, very unlikely I feel like, they are keeping them apart for shipping reasons then they really chose a very weird pairing to do that (now for some reason??) because we are not even a blimp in the ocean of all the "shipps" on smosh. and we are 100% definitely not the loudest ones.

I think you made a LOT of really great points Anon. Some aren't totally true? I don't believe Smosh is a corporation? it says on their wiki they are an independent entity and a corporation is something bigger(?) I believe. (I don't totally know for sure though)

I would say that Smosh social team WOULD be and probably IS trying to push content to as many people as possible, but if we're being real, they suck ass at building hype and keeping the bit going. They get cold feet. There's SO MANY bits they kept going that weren't even good/not popular in the community.

True that they push shipping but we have to remember that Angela is a freelancer. if she felt uncomfortable (see the "I know Damien's" incident of 23') and asked not to push shipping for her and Damien I'm sure she could veto it, And obviously if Damien felt uncomfortable he'd get the same curtesy.

Anyway, I have been way off the wagon on anime recently - I blame Buffy - so I am catching up! First one was The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You. In this harem comedy our protagonist has accidentally been given 100 soulmates by god, who was distracted watching Laputa: Castle in the Sky while filling out his destiny sheet, and now he has to date all of them or they will die. So he just...does that, and tells them all, and one by one he adds girls to his polycule. Episodes generally alternate between "courtship" episodes where its one-on-one with the new girl, then group bonding episodes where they all hang out together. Its honestly somehow pretty good? Its very zany, meta, & irreverent. Obviously each girl is a "trope", but they have a lot of fun with them due to the premise. Because everyone instantly falls in love and gets together in one episode, the "will they won't they" tropes don't function, right? They will they'd already! So instead it pits those tropes against the intergroup polycule dynamic for silly shenanigans. Its cute!

My favourite line is when the tsundere chick start's tsun'ing over a homework assignment and one of the girls turns to her and goes "what are you even fighting against in life?" Wrecked.

It has a lot of fun "conceptual" animation bits to express ideas, breaking well outside the box to get those ideas across. If you want to communicate the awkwardness of breaking the ice with a new friend, might as well showcase it with two salarymen descending into a shonen brawl over trying to give the other their business card first, way better than shot/reverse-shot.

It does overstay its welcome on its "bits", hoping to pad length with added jokes that don't have enough to work with since nothing is happening. Like many shows, I could reduce its duration by 25% and lose little, it be that way.

Its "focus on one girl" episodes are inherently less creative, because they have essentially ditched the premise? It does a good job at the trad romantic elements, but I think it would be way more interesting to have the courtships be done by the entire group, and play off that more.

Fanservice is sometimes annoying but its almost always comedic with some payoff. You know the genre, you won't love it, but it won't bother you if you clicked on a show with this title.

For the love of the Oedipal god can the people who make modern anime learn how to draw breasts please? I swear on side profile shots it looks like gravity has been rotated 90 degrees horizontal and pulled their chests into launch position, who wants this?

A lot of the gender & sexuality in anime has been changing recently - I mark it personally to like 2015 or so. Things that were implicit are being made explicit - a lot more characters are canonically queer, increasingly you have characters who are explicitly trans, and relationships have more openly stated consummations & sexual components. All of this is good news, and as a part of that I have slowly noticed explicit polyamory creeping into shows. Harem dynamics always had this handwavy denial of their premises going on, "oh its all tension, the expectation is I will choose a girl from the menu at the end". This tee-hee plausible deniability is just extraneous in the modern era, so you see it falling off slowly. Unlike queer rep I don't think this is too much of a sign of like...growing discontent with obligate monogamy in subculture Japan? But still, its fun to see for what it is, and I do think it reflects a little bit growing openness about how alternative sexualities go beyond niche media consumption in life.

answered this ask list for calamity-12! :D i didn't answer every question, so those aren't listed below under the cut.

🍇: What sort of friend are they? Where are they in the group dynamic? Definitely a 'we should kill them as a response to everything' kind of a friend. Calamity is a supportive friend, but he's not really the type to go out of his way to offer said support, partly because he trusts that his friends (who he doesn't even consider friends until he's known them for a prolonged amount of time and eventually fully warms up to them) obviously know that he's there for them. This makes it sound like Calamity never does anything for his friends unprompted, which is not the case lmao, but I'm just generalizing for simplicity if that makes any sense. With that said, Calamity can admittedly be a bit direct when it comes to offering his opinion/advice when a friend asks for it. Again, mostly due to them trusting said friends to know he's coming from a well-intentioned place, and frankly part of it is that he'll be kinda less tolerant of something he might deem silly. (silly as in, "well the obvious answer is to do this") In a group dynamic, I'd describe him as the friend that's present, but doesn't necessarily stand out from an outsider perspective. Like, some of his friends might be chattier, friendlier, etc. than they are so while he's obviously noticed to be there, it's not like Calamity will really go out of his way to chitchat with newer faces while in the group or something. I hope this makes sense lmao. 🍉: Does your OC have a particular piece of jewellery that they always wear or refuse to part with? Not jewelry obviously, but I'll say his helmet. Calamity does take it off infrequently, but they have a strong preference for wearing it. Looks cool, it's become a "face" for them thanks to their guardian career more-or-less, and having it on means they don't have to worry about others around him perceiving his emotions. I will honestly say that it's personal projection too lmfao, I too would love to be a robot and have the luxury of getting to wear a helmet all the time without having to deal with sweat/condensation/etc. Calamity is living my dream for me in that regard. I'll also quickly mention that this works favorably for Calamity when they first start fucking Spider, where both figuratively shake hands to agree to fucking with helmets on only. There is the personal element mentioned above for Calamity, but not gonna lie when I say it's mainly fueled by both enjoying the idea of saving the "INCREDIBLE privilege" of seeing the other emote during sex until later down the line. Also, Spider definitely seems like a half-dressed quickie kind of guy when casually fucking guardians/lightbearers to me so. Honestly I could expand on this specific detail of their dynamic, but obviously I won't because it's not even the point to begin with. 😭 🍋: What is your OC's most painful memory? His early guardian activities on the moon, which for the moment is mainly the Destiny 1 story there. It's definitely a case of someone having experienced plenty of traumatic shit, but there'll be an extremely specific experience that'll hang heaviest over them. As well as growing averse to certain elements and what not that were present in the environment.

I'll be honest by saying I don't really have any specific scenarios thought up for now, but I will say that overall Calamity does develop a bit of an aversion to going to the moon in general.

🍍: Where does your OC feel most comfortable? While Calamity is a pretty sociable guy, I'd say it's definitely when he can be Alone and Unbothered(™). Similar to the helmet explanation, they're super relaxed and comfortable when there isn't any concern for having to put that mask of complete composure on.

Considering all the shit he's up to both in the canon story and elsewhere, it's nice to just simply exist without anyone else perceiving you. Excluding his ghost, Cola, of course. I'll also say his actual friends are exceptions too, when they're in a more private setting than like a bar or simply out and about.

🍑: What sort of traits does your OC look for in a Significant Other? This is kind of a difficult question, because I don't really see Calamity as someone who's interested or all that concerned with a significant other in a dating sense. I definitely wouldn't call Spider his signifcant other, regardless that he manages to worm his way into Spider's genuine good graces after a long while.

So, I'll try to answer this in a general sense. They tend to be attracted to self-assured people, for starters. Obviously, nobody is without even the briefest moments of insecurity, Calamity included, but he typically hangs around folks that have at least a good idea of what they want, who they are, what they're good at, etc. He'll also warm up much faster to people who tend to be a bit distant as he is, compared to someone who might unintentionally be kinda too nosy or "too much" for him to tolerate when he's wanting said person to like, just leave him alone and let him open up on his own. (even if it is well-intentioned and/or not even annoying to the average person, if that makes sense).

This is super vague, I know, but [shrug emoji].

🍒: Has Your OC had their first kiss yet? If so, with who? Well, as far as a "first kiss" goes for his current life, it was probably with some other guardian he casually fucked if I'm being real.

🍆: Does your OC have any favourite form of affection, physical or otherwise? To be honest, Calamity is a sex enjoyer, first off. While he does have very casual sex with others besides Spider, when I say he's a "sex enjoyer" I'm referring to the close relationship he has with both of them (later on in life of course) which is what makes it that much more enjoyable for him since he has a greater degree of comfortable intimacy.

Besides that, he's honestly not much of a physical affection kind of guy if it's not in private. That means hand holding, cuddling, etc. is not something they're particularly fond of doing in front of others, especially in public spaces. Also, even in private, Calamity typically needs their own space after awhile, so he's not one to cuddle for hours or something like that.

I'd say he's more appreciative of compliments, gifts, and above all, being allowed to exist in his own personal bubble of space. It seems redundant to mention at this point, but it's important to him! However, those affectionate type of gazes from across the room/table/etc. will definitely get to them too. (in a good way)

🍰: What's something your OC counts as unforgivable? While Calamity tends to be a bit self-centered and selfish honestly, I'll say that they can be very cutthroat about someone hurting a genuine friend of theirs in some way. In the more lighthearted "oh we should just kill them" way as I mentioned in an earlier question, but also like, Calamity will absolutely despise the offending person of said friend as a bitter, petty yet very strong grudge. Calamity doesn't just count anyone as a friend! So to see someone who they genuinely trust and are close to be hurt in some way, he's rolling up those sleeves for a fight figuratively and literally. This does not extend to Spider though, but again, their entire dynamic can be a whole post on its own. 🎂: Has your OC have any contradictory interests or traits to the first preception people have of the? How do they surprise people? I guess what I mentioned directly above counts for this question, since Calamity is typically characterized as this distant, blunt person, but when he's around those he's genuinely comfortable with, they're relaxed, cracking jokes and laughing, etc. I'll also mention that Calamity is definitely an animal person too! Most likely a very distant echo of a past life/reset maybe, but he's really drawn to learning about fauna and the kind of guy to simply observe animals in the wild while he's out and about on patrols and such. :] So you know Calamity is totally down to have a cat nap on his lap or a dog jumping up on him and all that other good shit. He likes the ocean too. Calamity would be a "stare out at sea all day" kind of guy, honestly. Another distant echo of a past life/reset is that he'd totally be a music guy!! Meaning, if he had the time or drive, he'd learn to play an instrument for sure. That and he genuinely enjoys dancing. :] 🍩: What's a crime your OC is most likely to commit? What's a crime they're most likely to get arrested for? The guy is a glorified (and later, favored) errand-runner for Spider, that list grows like every month at this point, I'm sure.

🍹: Does your OC have any funny anecdotes told about them? Bruh, I feel like regularly fucking Spider is a "funny anecdote" on its own lmfao.

A more accurate answer is probably the belief that Calamity is the one who killed certain raid bosses. I'm talking about the ones that debut in the story, are defeated there, but aren't truly defeated until later on in a raid. So, adversaries like Crota and Oryx, for example.

Calamity has to explain "yeah I faced them and pretty much softened them up for the actual raid team to take them down for good. But still, you're welcome for dealing with that." pretty much lmaooo.

I do alot of projecting of my own gaming habits onto Calamity's guardian career, so I think it's fun to include silly details like that!!

🍻: What's your OC's favourite comfort ritual? How do they calm themselves down after a rough day? Agh, I don't think this is all that canon compliant, BUT the ideal way for Calamity to unwind would be strip off that armor, get comfortable, go for a relaxing swim, shower afterwards, then chill.

🥃: If your OC was in this universe, what would be their favourite show/book/band/social media platform? Not exactly a correct answer for this question, but I have to say that Calamity would probably actually have an Instagram or Twitter where he might post a picture or two; or even a simple status every once in awhile, but he'd hardly be active on it. Even when it gains alot of traction as his canon young wolf role grows over time lmao. He'd follow friends if they ask him to, etc.

some random d&d advice

aka ‘don’t repeat my mistakes’

mostly applies to campaigns that lean towards a balance of combat, storytelling and roleplay, rather than straight dungeon crawls, since those are the games i prefer

Come to the campaign knowing what motivates your character. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or fancy, but going into a game without any actual driving force or interest makes it a lot more challenging to roleplay and get engaged with the story.

Find at least one (1) reason for why your character is sticking with this group. Because D&D is, in most circumstances, a group game — constantly stretching for in-game reasons to stay does not make a fun experience. It doesn’t need to be fancy or even nice, it just needs to be.

If you’re feeling frustrated, dissatisfied, not listened to, etc… speak up sooner rather than later. Express what you’re feeling and why it’s making the game less enjoyable. If your DM and fellow players are good, they’ll be willing to take a step back and find a way to make it fun for everybody.

If you’re having conflict or issues above-table with a specific person — DM or player — find time outside of the game to talk to them about it. Bring a mediator if you feel you need or want one. Work through issues before they become deal-breakers.

For DMs — consider just doing a time skip if there is nothing players can do to progress a plot faster in-game. Maybe do a loose system of ‘roll for each day to find xyz clues or achieve abc tasks’, rather than having them roleplay through specific actions and encounters that will not actually affect anything. Let them know ‘okay, this process will take x amount of time in-game, how do you want to spend it?’

For players — your character’s backstory is a collaboration between you and the DM. Don’t hesitate to get into the details with them. The more they know about who your character is and what their external and internal realities are, the better they’ll be able to weave those into the world and make the role playing engaging and compelling for you.

Conflict is not anathema to a good game. In-game conflict can be incredibly dynamic and fulfilling, if you are able to communicate safely with your party above-table about it. Never feel like you can’t ask to pause a scene to check in out of character.

Sometimes an arc or session will focus more on one character than on others. Players — let that player and character have their limelight. DM — try to find ways to let the other players/characters be involved too, because it will help them stay invested and engaged in the moment.

D&D is not a competition. It’s collaborative. There’s no need to one-up each others’ Tragic Backstories, no need for everybody to have the exact same types of solo scenes or significant NPC encounters or plot trajectories. Each character is different, and the story is at its best when they come together and create unique dynamics.

You don’t have to do accents or consistent voices, but do try to make it clear who is speaking — for a DM, that means trying to make some distinction between NPCs, even if you’re just saying what the voice sounds like. For players, that means trying to be clear on what you’re saying in character versus out of character. Obviously, this won’t happen all the time, but it’s worth trying to be aware of, especially if you’re not playing in-person.

Ultimately, the RAW are more like [Barbossa voice] guidelines. Play in the way that is the most enjoyable for you and your party. Homebrew or bend what you want to, to create the game you all collectively want to play. As long as everyone is having a good time, there is no such thing as playing D&D wrong.

And following that last point, obviously if any of these tips would make the game unenjoyable for you and your table, then they don’t apply! Toss them out!

Main takeaway — communication is key, you’re all in this together, and everyone deserves to enjoy the game.

rosaria !! hands down my favorite ship for him, my otp, especially with the development that's happened with ventium's rosaria. imo, they're two of the best people to understand and acknowledge the traumas they've both faced in a way that works for both of them. kaeya gets uncomfortable and suffocated by too much coddling or softness about what he's been through and rosaria is more tough love than gentle love. it's what he needs. but also, they understand each other's senses of humor and perspective better than anyone else. two peas in a weird little gothy pod.

eula !! two people both dedicated to mondstadt and its people, and outside of it in their own ways. i guess i just really like putting him with outsiders lmao ! for me, this ship is great because eula is so used to judgement, but kaeya's actually very non-judgmental. and to kaeya, eula is someone else who's trying to break free from her past ( even if she doesn't know about his by default ), so he finds her interesting and he enjoys their conversations. i think they can connect over the things that set them apart from others and OOOMPH i just really, really like the potential in this ship.

thoma !! i'm a sucker for childhood friends to lovers, no two ways about it. in my headcanons they were obvs in the same friend group ( kaeya, diluc, jean, thoma, baby sister barbara, etc ) and younger teen kaeya might've had a brief crush; however, everything also obviously had to get buried and put aside when thoma disappeared, life moved on, as everyone came to process their grief that their friend had died somewhere. both have changed as adults … kaeya definitely for the worst … so what happens if they meet?

So, I've watched all current episodes of Pokemon Horizons now, and I have some more thoughts.

I *STILL* think there's something going on with Orio and Mollie after their episode 9 date.

They are almost always positioned right next to each other in group shots. When the show is away from the Brave Asagi, any cuts back to the ship will often show them already spending time together.

In the episode where Orio goes to help out the pokeball maker, Mollie is the one who advocates for giving Orio time for herself and to get a break from constantly being in demand on the ship.

Their roles on the ship are complementary as well. Both are more likely to stay on-board unless situations call for it (Orio to perform repairs/maintenance on the ship itself, while Mollie looks after the inhabitants). Trope-wise, they have 'cheerful-stoic' and 'elbow grease-soft touch' dynamics, which are always fun.

Also, they literally ride Orio's Metagross together (leaning on each other) in the 2nd opening, with Mollie giving a rare smile.

Zirc and Onia *STILL* have not been named on-screen after sixty-two episodes/two-and-a-half fucking seasons! Those two should strike for better working conditions.

Liko and Dot, like Orio and Mollie above, also seem very close.

Liko was almost immediately committed to befriending Dot, before even laying eyes on her, and spent a good amount of time and effort talking to her through a metal door. Even after Dot emerged and they became real friends, Liko is always the first to involve and encourage Dot, and is delighted when they get to spend time together.

Dot, for her part, actually does respond to Liko's efforts before they meet IRL as she will drop everything to ensure that Liko is alright after getting into any jams, and will also beat herself up for letting Liko down. When Dot starts hanging out with the others, a few words from Liko will draw out a blush quite easily, and she is far more friendly with the other girl than she is with Roy (both kind of treat Roy as a mildly-exasperating little brother).

Liko having somebody to focus on helping (Dot) leads to her growth, while Dot having somebody who she can actively do things for (Liko) leads to hers. Their affection for each other is apparent and beneficial for both.

The third member of the 'main' trio, Roy, is an interesting case. I would probably rank him as having the least to do out of three. He's not an un-fun character, but he's rather limited.

Yes, he was the original provider of the ancient pokeball with Rayquaza in it, but Liko learning the story of Lucius and the Six Heroes meant that they would have had to come across it sooner or later anyway to get Terapagos to Rakua.

Since Rayquaza left the pokeball, Roy's role and motivation has kinda been reduced to being a fight-happy tag-along. He's obviously very sheltered from his upbringing, but he could do with having his own horizons widened some more. Maybe get him a friend who he has a deeper relationship with than Liko (Anne) or Dot (Nanjamo), or just... something to do outside of training to get beat by Rayquaza again.

Mibrim/Hatenna is the fuckin' MVP. The amount of times she's uncovered the problem or tracked down missing people and pokemon over this series far eclipses that of any other character. Screw Batman, MIBRIM is the world's best detective for uncovering stuff. She's great.

You cannot hide from her. She knows what you did and what you're thinking about.

I don't care for Friede or Captain Pikachu. They took up too much screentime in the earlier episodes before the writers wisely started scaling them back, and Friede's quickly-abandoned running 'gag' about forgetting to tell others important information wasn't funny in the first place.

You cannot tell me she doesn't roll into a town, head straight for the club, pull 1-3 lovelies young enough to be her kids, outlast them all in bed, feed them in the morning and then tell them to get out with a smack on the ass so she can get back to work.

Rinse and repeat for every night she's in town and every town she's in.
