Loosely based on a dream I had about Druig/ Barry Keoghan (and another character he played)
Merging of universes: X-men, Spider-Man, and the MCU.
College AU!
Sprite is a minor so I’ll be using Raffey Cassidy from The Killing of a Sacred Deer instead (plus she was Sprite in my dream too (my subconscious knows better)).
Because this story (series) is based on a dream I had, Druig will most likely not be the Druig we all know and love. I am sorry… Almost. Druig and other characters will also be mixed with their actor counterparts, basically making new people.
Everyone in this story is 18+, if minors are mentioned they aren’t getting in any weird, sick, twisted situations with adults.
I also use female pronouns for the reader and the reader may be a bit OC.
Druig has an American accent (for now)
Not beta-read
I would also prefer that minors DO NOT interact with this at all. Thank you.
Warnings: College AU!, Swearing, gaslighting, manipulation, cheating, mild violence (?), implied sexual content, mentions of bullying, college strife, MCU/X-Men/Spider-Man/Actors mashed in one universe, self-doubt, insecurities, depression, angst, fluff, enemies to lovers, slow burn, family issues, mentions of disabilities (is that a warning?)… I’ll probably be adding more warnings as the story goes on. (Please let me know if I’ve missed something too.)
Playing with Fire: Part 2
Part 2
Woman Who Birthed Me
Tuesday 6:30 AM
“Hey sweetie just remember to go to your classes today and study well! Love you ❤️”
“How? Just, HOW!?” Sighing, I quickly type back.
6:31 AM
“Sure thing.”
Read
“I hate my life.” Begrudgingly I get out of bed and start to get ready; by the time it’s 7 I’m out the door on my way to the cafeteria.
Now normally I don’t eat breakfast, because I’d rather sleep in, but Tuesday mornings are when I have breakfast with my very best friends- since kindergarten- Jubilation Lee and Kitty Pryde. Strolling into the cafeteria I easily spot Jubilee’s signature yellow raincoat; she’s had it for as long as I can remember, I’ve tried getting her to wear something else but she really sticks with the coat.
“Y/N! Hey girl- oh you look like shit.” As soon as Kitty sees me she gets up from her seat to give me a hug, “Long night?”
“You could say that, yeah,” I plop in my chair, laying my head on the table. I feel hands pat my head and back in comfort. “I was gonna skip today.” The comforting ceases so I sit up to find them staring at me with wide eyes.
“You? You were going to skip class?!” Jubilee whisper yells at me.
“I don’t believe it, you are and what have you done with Y/N?” Kitty hisses back.
“Seriously, I can’t have an off day?”
“NO!” They say simultaneously.
“Wow… Well obviously that didn’t happen since I’m here… Plus my mom texted me as soon as I said it. I swear she has a microphone in my room or something.”
“Dang that’s rough.” Jubilee takes a sip from her cup offering me some.
“What is it?” I gaze into the cup unsure if I should drink some.
“Coffee, duh.” She gives me an eye roll at the sound I make.
“You know Ju-Ju has to have her coffee every morning.” Kitty giggles at my pouting face.
“I know, but I don’t like coffee.” I drop my head into my chest pretending to cry.
“Drink some, it’ll help you. Trust me, have I ever steered you wrong?” She passes the cup to me, which I willing take.
“Uh yes you have, remember the ‘Maximoff Incident’?” I glare at her as the memory of Pietro and myself rushes into my mind.
“Okay, that was one time! AND, I apologized many times! Plus if it wasn’t for that, you guys wouldn’t even be friends now.” She defends herself much to my amusement; if I wasn’t so tired I would’ve smiled.
“No amount of ‘I’m sorry’ is ever gonna make up for that, Jubes.” I mutter while taking a sip of her god-awful coffee, “Oh. It’s not that bad, dang this is good. Okay because this tastes waaaay better than I thought, I’ll forgive you for the ‘Time- that- will- not- be- named’.”
“Gee thanks, Y/N.” She rolls her eyes but smiles at me regardless, “How fortunate that my coffee-making, skills earned your forgiveness.”
“Very fortunate indeed.” I chuckle drinking more.
“Yes, go ahead and drink it all. I didn’t want it back.” She says sarcastically, crossing her arms.
“Oops sorry, Jubes.” I offer her her cup back, only for her to decline it and go make another cup for herself.
“So, how come you had such a shitty night?” Kitty asks as she begins eating her fruit cup.
Last night’s encounter floods my mind much to my annoyance, I shift in my set groaning as I remember being partnered with…
“Ugh.”
I glance at Kitty whose face shows that she wants the tea, and she wants it now, “Let’s wait for Jubilee-“
“I’m here! What’s good? What’s the tea? Tell me the tea!” She huddles close grasping her cup like she’s sitting by the fire waiting for a good story- which, I mean, she is.
“Sigh, okay, so you know how I’m in Professor X’s AP English Lit. Class? Right, well- Yes, Jubes?”
“Who’s Professor X?”
Kitty and I look at her completely surprised.
“Uhh the bald guy that quotes Shakespeare literally every day… He has that really cool wheelchair… He’s the guy you think is a mind reader.”
“OH HIM! I love that guy, he’s so cool, reading minds and shit… Why do you call him Professor X?”
"Well, he’s well known for his notorious grading style back in the day. Even straight-A students would get their papers back littered in red X’s. It was a big deal for people to properly understand, know, and appreciate Shakespeare like him. If you had a differing opinion than him he’d kick you out of class until you apologized. He’s calmed down a lot since then, but he’s still a bit of a hardass. I basically had to bribe him to let me do this project on Publius’ Hades and Persephone instead of Shakespeare, no I’m not kidding; I told him if he let me do this I’d write a 20-page thesis on Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors. He was thrilled by the offer and the fact that I know what the Comedy of Errors is, he said I could do the thesis in 15 pages and as long as he chooses who my partner is for the project. I-" Reality is a bitch, but Professor X, he-
*deep breath*
“… Um Y/N, you good?” Kitty asks cautiously, she looks at Jubilee who is just as concerned as her.
“No. No, I’m not.” I close my eyes pinching the bridge of my nose, “Alrighty then, that’s the game he’s playing. Alright, I got your number Charlies Patrick Xavier Stuart.”
“What just happened?” Kitty whispers to Jubilee.
“I have no idea, but I think we’re gonna finally get the tea.” She whispers back. I finally open my eyes to see them barely containing their excitement.
Sighing deeply I tell them everything that happened last night along with the horrible dream I had. They smiled at me sympathetically when I finished my tale and handed me their coffee and Lucky Charms™. This is why I love them so much, they know how to make me feel better, even when they have no idea how. I gratefully accept their offerings with a lopsided smile, but they know I’m still not thrilled that my teacher literally played me.
“What if we reported him? You know Professor X?” Kitty offers.
“And get herself in trouble for literally bribing a teacher? Yeah, that’s not gonna work out well, especially if her mom finds out.” Jubilee counters, hearing what she said prompts a loud groan from me.
“Damn, I totally forgot about my mom, she can never- and I mean, NEVER know!” I slump in my chair staring at the ceiling.
“Well, now the real question is, how are you gonna work with the laziest and hottest guy in your class?” Kitty shakes her head gazing at the floor sighing wistfully.
Jubilee and I share a look before I say:
“Are you fucking serious right now? Did you just say that that bad dye job was- nay- is, hot?” I lean forward in my chair making sure I heard her correctly.
“I mean, he is kinda hot.” Jubilee pipes up.
“I’ve been insulted, disrespected,” I place my hand over my heart pretending to sob, “I’ve been mistreated.”
“Such a Drama Queen.” Kitty laughs playfully pushing me.
“Did you just quote ‘Mistreated’?”
“You know I did.” I giggle.
Jubilee shakes her laughing at me taking another sip of coffee, “You know what you need?”
“A new life?” I sass.
“No,” She says smiling, “More coffee, I’ll be right back.”
“This is gonna end badly for me, isn’t it?” I turn to Kitty.
“Probably, that coffee is gonna go through you like a bullet train; but on the flip side it might kick in when you have to meet Barry, so you’ll have an excuse to not see him.” She shrugs at me.
“Yeah, but as much as I don’t want to meet with him I HAVE to. This is my grade hanging in the balance. I know I said I didn’t have a problem failing this project, but I love Hades and Persephone! I was really looking forward to this.” I cling to her arm giving her puppy dog eyes. Laughing she pulls me into a hug petting my head.
“There, there, it’ll be alright babes. You’re smart, you'll figure out how to work with him AND get a good grade.”
“Thanks.” I breathe out.
“Okay I’m back with the coffee, drink up, you want to have the energy to deal with this man.” Jubilee thrusts the cup into my hands taking out her phone, “Dang, I gotta go to class now guys. I’ll see you guys later, Y/N remember you’re my ride today.”
“I gotchu girl, see you later.” We hug and watch as she runs to her Chemistry class.
“She’s totally gonna blow something up again, isn’t she?” Kitty questions drinking her orange juice.
“Oh yeah.” Smiling, I drink my coffee and check my own phone for the time.
9:01 AM
“My class is in an hour, do you wanna hang out, or are you busy?” I tilt my head to Kitty who’s replying to a message.
“Totally! Pietro was just updating me on Jubilee’s crush.” She wiggles her brows at me.
“Excuse me, crush? When was I gonna be told about this?”
“Sorry I meant to tell you about it but you’ve been super busy with work, classes, and Raffey.” There was a bit of venom in her voice when she said Sprite’s real name. Biting the inside of my cheek I nod my head in understanding.
“Yeah, I’m sorry about that; it’s not my fault my suitemate wanted to be friends with me. Trust me, I was very standoffish with her and I guess in her world that means ‘I must become friends with this introvert! They need my help!’ To be fair, she stuck through it, so I figured I’d throw her a bone.” I shrug while eating a grape from Kitty’s plate, “Alright, what’s with all the fruit?”
“Oh, I’m so glad you asked! It’s for my health class, we have to eat a certain amount of fruits and veggies every day for the next week, documenting our results. You know, how we feel, if we’re still hungry, blah blah blah. Fun stuff, I even got Pietro in on it.”
I look at her shocked and then confused.
“Wait, which one?”
“Hmm? Oh, mine of course lol.” She waves a hand dismissively at me.
“Your Pietro said he’ll join in your weird class diet project? The wrestling champion of this college said no to meat for a week? Wow, he must really love you.” I huff out a laugh, “Hold on did you just say L-O-L?”
“No I said “lol" you said “L-O-L”.” She winks at me cheekily.
“I’m this close to smackin’ you Pryde.” Bringing up my hand I show her the small space between my pointer finger and thumb. She smacks my hand laughing at me, “So, how is it? Having a boyfriend and stuff?”
“It’s super fun! We have video game dates and he’s even joined our campaign! Speaking of which, when are you gonna rejoin our campaign? Your Mage is still in the Wilderness of Despair being killed by Ogres.”
I laugh remembering the D&D game that I had to put on hold because of my mom. Thinking about it now I’ve put a lot of things that I enjoy on hold because of her. She can be so demanding sometimes, her excuse is that I need to have better priorities and monopolize my time better. If she completely had her way I wouldn’t even have my art or music. But I digress.
“Ha, I totally forgot about that. Hey, maybe we can get Jubilee’s crush to join!”
“Oh yeah, I don’t think that’s gonna happen.” Kitty says sadly.
“What do you mean?”
“He’s not that kinda guy.” I raise a brow at her to explain further, “He’s a jock.”
“Uhhhh… wow, hmm… Was not expecting that. Like, at all!”
“I know right! Totally blindsided by that.”
“Well to be fair the same thing could be said about your boyfriend.” I counter.
“Yeah, for people who don’t know him. We’ve been friends longer than we’ve dated and he even said that he always wanted to play D&D, so, no lol.”
“Stop saying ‘lol’, but I mean I guess Colossus does kind of give off nerd vibes. Subtly but they are there… Lol.”
Kitty sharply turns her head to me and lightly punches my arm.
“Oh I can’t say ‘lol’ but it’s fine when you do? Not in this house Y/N.”
We share a laugh as I continue to ask questions about Jubilee’s mystery man.
“Wait, wait, wait, what do you mean she’s never talked to him?”
“I know! She talks to everyone, but with him she just… Well, she turns into you, but all blushing and stutters so much, poor baby. She can’t talk to him. At. All! It’s actually very painful to watch. And before you ask, yes I have tried getting them to talk, but nothing works, she always runs away whenever he’s near.”
“I can’t believe some guy has Jubilee flustered. I can’t imagine that.”
“I can, remembeeeeeerrr Maximoff~.” She leans into me wiggling her eyebrows again.
“You shut your mouth, that situation is nothing like this one. Not by a long shot, at least I talked to my crush! Ex-crush… Yeah, ex-crush.” I say firmly.
“Ex-crush huh? What happened?” She chuckles.
“We became friends and I got to know him, is what happened. That man has waaaaaaaaay too much energy, I mentally and physically cannot keep up with him. Honestly, it’s a bit draining being his friend.”
“You lazy butt.”
I giggle shrugging at her.
“What can I say? Oh shit, I gotta go or I’m gonna be late for C++.” I stand gathering my things. “I know I can nap a bit in that class, Mr. Kingo is super chill. Half the time he’s not even telling us about the subject matter.”
“What does he talk about?” Kitty props her arm on the back of the chair confused, “I heard he’s a great teacher.”
“Yeah, probably because he passes everyone for simply listening to his jokes and the stories about the time he was a Bollywood actor. I think he still does it sometimes.”
“Wow, I need to take his class.” Kitty gets up and hugs me goodbye, “Oh here, eat an orange or something.”
“Thank you, mom.” I laugh while taking the orange walking to the double doors.
“Study hard!”
Not turning around I flip her off, her laugh reaches my ears and I smile as I make my way to the library’s computer lab. Entering the library I walk up the stairs to Mr. Kingo’s class and hand him my orange. He smiles confused at me but doesn’t question it and places it on his desk.
“Thank you Y/N. Okay then let’s get into this.” He claps his hands, rubbing them together, “Good morning everyone! How are we feeling today?”
Moans are heard throughout the computer lab which causes him to smile widely.
“Awh come on guys, it is currently 9:40 AM, it’s not that early. Wake up, come on, come on. Today is going to be a simple day. I found an old movie I was in. Who wants to watch for extra credit? Lord knows you guys need it.”
“Damn that’s cold.” Bobby says, shaking his head as a smile tugs at his lips.
“Cold, but true.” Rogue adds.
“Alright, here we go.” Mr. Kingo hits play on the DVD player and the movie begins.
I lay my head down and slowly drift off to sleep.

I looooove your zukka rec lists! I recently became Avatar-obsessed, never got a chance to watch it as a kid and only just got through it all! I was wondering if you'd consider doing a specifically angst rec list? I love fluffy zukka everything, but sometimes you just gotta have your heart ripped out of your chest and put back in after being thoroughly blended.
thank you! i relate heavily to “recently became Avatar-obsessed” haha. as for the angst list, i sure can try! warning: all of these have happy endings because im a crybaby who can’t read unhappy endings. also, p much all of the fics in the completed section were featured on my other lists but this is specifically the ANGSTY ones >:^)
angsty zukka wips

-the amnesia fic. the amnesia fic. the amnesia fic. you know. i haven’t actually read it yet because, as previously mentioned, i’m a crybaby and am waiting for it to finish up but, from my understanding, this fic will murder you in a dark alleyway with no remorse. if u like zukka angst, you’ve probably already read this, but just in case!
An injury leaves Sokka with amnesia. His last memory is of the failed invasion, of leaving his father behind in enemy territory on the Day of Black Sun. Of hopelessness. Rage. // But then he wakes up, and the war is over. Suddenly, he must come to terms with the fact that years have passed, and that he's somehow the Southern Water Tribe Ambassador to the Fire Nation. He is also supposedly friends with banished-Prince-turned-Fire-Lord Zuko, of all people. Close friends.
Yeah, nah.

-holy shit. holy SHIT. modern au based on the “my cat likes my fuckbuddy and i am falling in love” trope(?). maybe it’s just because of how the last chapter ended, but oh my god. this one made me cry. made me want to commit violence. when it’s not angsty as hell, it’s pretty funny, but holy shit. ao3 user nebulastucky please.
It’s supposed to be a one night stand. Pick up some guy at a bar, barely remember his name and never learn anything real about him, send him packing in the morning with a thanks for the ride and a cup of coffee to-go. That’s how it’s supposed to go. // But then it’s the best sex Sokka has ever had, and he thinks he’ll hate himself if he never gets to have it again.
Violet Blossoms and Celestial Objects by @hollypunkers
-currently 15k with 2/? posted. rated teen.
-this is the sequel to blue (an angsty, zukka rewrite of book 2-- go read it if u havent!)! !! this is a book 3 rewrite. only two chapters in and mrs hollypunkers is really abusing the miscommunication tag, as zukka writers seem to enjoy doing. im excited to see how the world and story develops with the changes to the story! you should be too!! its very good! obviously spoilers for blue lmao
Having sided with the Avatar in Ba Sing Se, Zuko not only must navigate his new relationship with Sokka but returning to the Fire Nation as a banished enemy. His own journey of self discovery and personal growth must now coexist alongside the personal struggles of every other member of the Gaang as together they blaze a treacherous path toward an unsure victory against Zuko's own father and nation.
breakable heaven by @fruitysokka

-swt ambassador zuko! soon to be chief sokka! fake dating ur best friend to get out of an arranged marriage! what could go wrong!!! i also haven’t read this one ((see: i’m a crybaby who is being hurt by too many zukka wips already)), but it has been hanging out in my marked for later for months. from what i understand, this fic has: angst.
With his twenty-first birthday looming just around the corner, the Southern Water Tribe Elders have decided that Sokka, next in line to be Chief, needs to get married. Sokka does not want that, but he does need to get them off his back until he can figure his way out of it. What better way to do that than to pretend to date his best friend (and newly minted Ambassador to the Southern Water Tribe) Zuko? // Seriously, this is a foolproof plan. Maybe one of Sokka's best. Absolutely nothing can go wrong.
angsty zukka fics (completed!)

-a modern college au!! zuko’s inner-monologue is very angsty in this fic. typical zuko. also per usual, theyre both fucking dorks. they sort themselves out in the end, but not before The Angst. zuko is semi-deaf in this fic and also he has a bit of internalized homophobia.
Sokka’s breathtakingly beautiful and he’s smart and makes other people laugh. Zuko has a half-burnt face and a deaf ear. It’s not rocket science. // Or, Zuko falls in love with the boy in his Philosophy class.
This Isn’t My Idea of Fun by @khaleeseas
-9k, explicit
-moon spirit/nwt prince!sokka, no war to be found here! admittedly this isnt THAT angsty but like. the angst IS present. zuko is still the prince. a lovely childhood friends (though they hated each other for a minute haha) to lovers story.
If you asked Zuko, he and Azula saw far too much of Chief Hakoda of the Northern Water Tribe’s children growing up. It wasn’t until they were older, and Azula pointed out that - duh - their families were trying to set them all up, that he realized why. // He was told by his mother to be polite. These people were their friends and allies, and though their nations were as different as they came, harmony between nations was the most important thing. // It wasn’t his fault the Chief’s children were so annoying.
put your lips close to mine (as long as they don’t touch) by @celestialceci
-9k, teen
-modern au! zuko and sokka are college roommates. zuko goes to spend the summer with sokka. again,, not really that angsty but-- its there!! the detail and feeling of Home in this story make me happy. zuko is insecure as hell here too. if ur into that.
Zuko hates his home. He likes college alright, but he likes Sokka even better, his assigned roommate turned best friend. Spending the summer with Sokka will be fun, a welcome change of pace he desperately wants. It probably won't awaken anything in him... right?
the thing about dancing by anodymalion

-yes. this one right here officer. it makes my heart ache. also trans sokka! which is cool. but the zuko angst in this one. hurts me. not so much relationship angst as it is zuko learning he deserves happiness angst. i’m sure u know The Type.
The first time a attendant spills Zuko’s tea and doesn’t immediately fall to her knees, begging the Fire Lord’s forgiveness, it is not anger but a resounding warmth that fills his chest.

-OUCH. OUCH OUCH OUCH. boys please learn to communicate im begging u. also zuko.. zuko, dude. as the tags of the fic say, hes “really going through it” in this one. YOUCH. post-canon.
Zuko almost said it. He almost said the words I think I’m in love with you, but he choked them back down at the last second. // Zuko would never be able to be what Sokka wanted. They might have needed each other during the summer, when two boys with too much weight on their shoulders found comfort in each other in the only way they knew how. // But now Zuko was Fire Lord, and Sokka was leaving.

-i lied. THIS is the one, officer. found family.. good mai and zuko and toph friendships.. . ozai escapes prison and tries to overthrow zuko. OBVIOUSLY angst ensues. poor boy. he Does heal in this but it gets worse before it gets better. angst angst angst angst.
Ten months after Zuko is crowned at seventeen, he faces his first coup.
Anything for You by beersforqueers

-istg. this is probably one of my favorite zukka fics. its PAINFUL. modern au where theyre broken up but sokka hasnt told his family yet so zuko goes home with him for kataang wedding. a bit smutty, but the plot oh my god ohgm y fuvk. made me cry the first time i read it. (see: crybaby!me) insert that one picture of the horse with the caption PAIN.
In which Sokka and Zuko have broken up but Sokka hasn't told his family yet. So when Katara and Aang's wedding weekend rolls around and he doesn't want to break Gran-Gran's heart, he asks Zuko to pretend to be his boyfriend for one last weekend. // Things don't go as planned.
Moving Mountains by @thefangirlingdead

-so. when i read this the first time it was in one sitting. soulmate au set within canon era / the comics, to an extent. soulmates can hear each others thoughts. i will happily say this is slowburn, jesus christ. champagne without the cham.
Soulmates are chosen by the spirits and can hear each other’s thoughts. Sokka thinks it’s cheesy and dumb. Zuko thinks it’s poetic justice that he doesn’t have one because he doesn’t deserve it. Cruel irony is finding out that the prince of the Fire Nation (and the person currently hunting you) is your soulmate.

-moon spirit!sokka living in the northern water tribe. zuko is sent to the northern water tribe as a cultural liaison. iroh is the fire lord but while he is away taking care of lu ten after his injury ozai steps up. i cannot express how many emotions this fic made me feel. background yuetara. i would almost say found family?? but. anyway. plenty of angst to spare here with a healthy dose of enemies to friends to lovers.
As the newly appointed cultural liaison to Northern Water Tribe, Zuko is the first Fire Nation Citizen to step foot inside the city's walls in nearly a century. He's determined to prove himself—to the Fire Lord and to his father—even if the Water Tribe's spirit-touched prince seems to want nothing to do with him.

-now now now. tms... modern college au where sokka agrees to tutor zuko in physics because zuko has to maintain straight a’s and physics is just not doing it for him. so. thats cool but THEN azula moves in, randomly, with zuko. to hide the fact that sokka is tutoring zuko, they fake date! what could go wrong!! the mutual pining in here combined with the angst... wonderful, tasty. everyone read it rn. also SLOWBURN
In Zuko’s strict family, needing a tutor is just about the worst thing you could do. Failing a class, however, is even worse. The only rational solution? Take up Aang on his offer to find him a physics tutor and have Sokka—beautiful, smart, handsome Sokka—tutor him in secret. // When Azula’s arrival threatens to reveal Zuko’s secret, it’s up to Sokka to convince her this definitely isn’t what it looks like. See, he’s actually… Zuko’s… boyfriend? // Hmm. There’s no way this could get complicated, right?

A/N: Okay! Chapter 8! So, the survey replies said that I could do two free-write and one survey chapter, which means the next survey chapter will be chapter 11, but that link will come with chapter 9 because heck if I know where we’re going next! Also, I apparently have a bigger ao3 contingency reading this so that’s interesting. But anyway! Here we go! Sorry it took so long!

Jungkook wasn’t breathing, frozen and staring at the dragon.
You bowed a little more. “Please forgive our intrusion upon your territory.”
A deep rumbling laughter made the waters tremble, ripples disturbing the eerily smooth surface of the water. “Little xana, you are most welcome as my river-kin. And brave djinn, you are welcome also. I could not turn away one attached so strongly to the soul of my river-kin. Your soul may rest easily when you have your heart pieces put together.”
Jungkook breathed out. “It’s hard.”
“It will not always be so, little one. The trials of life...they come...and they go. But if you stick close to your heart, all should turn out to be well and you shall grow stronger for all of your trials.” Anwei settled his head on the surface of the water. “You will grow, and have much growing to do still.”
Jungkook turned a little toward you. “How do you know?”
Anwei chuckled. “Did you know that the oracles and seers all descended from those who drank from the waters of a great and powerful dragon that was tainted with his blood?”
You tried not to gag at the thought, standing once more and taking Jungkook’s arm.
“And you, little xana, so many thoughts, racing in that head of yours and so many ideas without a clue how to enact them. You desire much, but admit little, but you are the key to all of the others. Without you, they would lose each other.” The dragon seemed to be settling back into the waters. “Now, if you both don’t mind...being awake is tiresome. And you both have someone to go find, do you not?”
You looked to the sky. “Jungkook, it’s almost sunset.”
“How?”
Anwei chuckled. “Time is a funny thing.”
You started running back in the direction of the house. “Thank you, oh great one!”
He just chuckled more. “Little ones. Always...in a...hurry.”
Jungkook zoomed past you, slightly translucent and going through the trees, but he often glanced back to make sure you were still with him.
You ran into Valina, squeaking and quickly helping her gather her mushrooms again and apologizing to her and who appeared to be her witch friends. “Sorry, I’m in a hurry! You haven’t seen Seokjin, have you?”
“Not in the past two days, sugar.”
“Ok, thank you!” You called, racing after Jungkook who had gone invisible around them. “He must not have gone to town. She would have seen him otherwise.”
“Where else could he be?” Jungkook asked, but it sounded like it was in your head more than anything which sent chills up and down your spine.
“There’s too many places he could be. Maybe Hoseok will have a clue for us, though. Come on.”
He beat you to the house, but the others were in the yard. Jimin was sitting in the grass with Hoseok looking at the feathers on his wings. Namjoon pacing. Yoongi was in a brown tabby form, gaze locked on you and Jungkook as the two of you raced up.
“Nothing?” Jungkook asked, looking at the others.
“No word from him, no sightings, nothing.”
Your gaze was drawn to the forest as they started discussing where they should look.
“Come on, Hoseok, any ideas?”
Hoseok pouted. “I can’t just turn it on and off. I looked in the crystal balls, but I didn’t see anything that would help us.”
“I’ll check the forest. Maybe our forest friend has seen him.”
“Alone?” Jimin scrambled to his feet.
“I won’t be alone long. Like I said, our forest friend will probably find me and help me find Seokjin.” You scanned the forest line, then spotted a tree that looked slightly out of place. That had to be it. Their hidden mailbox. “You guys go look. I’ll check the forest.”
“Are you sure?” Namjoon asked, coming over and taking your hand. “It’s a big forest.”
“I’m sure. We’ll find him. Go look. Meet back here when the sun has fully set,” You told them, squeezing Namjoon’s hand. “We’ll find him.”
Namjoon nodded, but didn’t move until Yoongi came over and grabbed his wrist, pulling him away.
Hoseok grabbed onto both maknaes. “Come on, we’re odd numbers with y/n going alone. Both of you come with me. I don’t like traveling in the dark.”
Jimin snorted, and started quietly teasing the elder—which was really heartwarming because it meant he was growing attached and comfortable.
Jungkook just trailed after them, smiling a little at the hand holding his.
And you knew they’d be fine.
You hurried toward the tree, their mailbox tree, studying it for a while and then trying to figure out how to find Taehyung so he could help you find Jin.
“You’re not Jin-hyung,” A deep voice pouted behind you.
You turned and sighed in relief. “No, we don’t know where he is. Need your help finding him, Taehyung. He left last night and we haven’t heard from him since.”
Taehyung’s eyes widened. “He’s missing?”
“Not...necessarily. I think he didn’t want to be found right away though. And I have a feeling he’s in a forest...maybe the one his brother died in?”
Taehyung looked surprised, but it slowly faded to agreement, and he nodded. “Right. You’re right. Let’s go look.”
You hurried after him. “It’s okay for me to use your real name, right?”
“What? Oh, yeah! It’s also a good way to get in touch with me. Just whisper it to any of the maples and they’ll bring it to me, and I’ll know that you’re looking for me.” Taehyung smiled at you.
You smiled back, but were also trying to figure out how to tell him that he was one of your soulmates. It would have to wait until you found Jin.
Taehyung led the way to a forest that was obviously just starting to regrow from a devastating fire, saplings here and there and some bushy undergrowth, but also a clearly defined path through it to the undamaged parts of the forest. The dirt road under your feet looked well-travelled, and yet the only sounds you could hear were of birds and squirrels and chipmunks.
“So….”
“That path leads to the family cemetery, which is also the memorial area for all of the dryads lost to the fire. Hyung talked about it becoming the first town cemetery since the area around it was already cleared by the fire,” Taehyung said, then hesitantly stepped toward the path. “What if he gets mad that we came looking for him?”
“He won’t be. He left because...his feelings got hurt in a misunderstanding last night. He needs us. Did...did you finish his butterfly?”
Taehyung nodded, carefully pulling the white butterfly from his bag and then whispering some sort of spell before tossing it lightly into the air as it started moving.
Down the path.
Taehyung hurried after it, not even glancing back as you captured his hand and held onto it.
You heard the singing first, soft and sad, and then you saw Jin, sitting against a headstone as he sang.
Taehyung had stopped when he heard the singing as well, just watching and listening.
Jin’s voice cracked and wobbled, and he stopped singing.
Just as the butterfly reached him and landed on his knee.
Jin stared at it, then reverently scooped it up.
Taehyung ran to Jin the moment you let go of his hand. “Hyung!”
Jin looked up, but didn’t move until Taehyung was just about to fall onto and crush the butterfly.
You walked over as Taehyung bear-hugged Jin and kept telling him not to cry, studying the tombstones and memorials from the dryads.
And you sang, because that was the only thing you knew for certain. Singing was the only way to feel like you belonged there, among all of the death.
There had been too much death.
When would this war end?
You sat on the ground in front of the two boys while you sang, looking to the sky to see how long you had until dark.
You sang of misunderstandings, of the worry that all of you had felt over Jin being missing, and of soulmates still not joined. Of lurking darkness.
“Y/n,” Jin said, grabbing your shoulders. “Come on. We’re leaving. Come on.”
You blinked, nodding, but you couldn’t stop singing. It would be too much if you stopped singing.
They rushed you out of the cemetery, through the trees and back to the road.
Taehyung looked nauseous when you were finally able to stop singing, the pressure in your chest gone. “You’re not allowed in cemeteries, got it.”
Jin gently stroked your hair. “What are you two doing here, anyway?”
“We’ve been looking for you,” Taehyung answered, the ‘duh’ in his tone easily palpable.
Jin’s brow wrinkled.
“Everyone’s been so worried about you,” You whispered. “Jungkook especially. He really wants to talk to you.”
Jin looked even more sad.
Taehyung was frowning in frustration. “What happened, hyung?”
“He didn’t want me,” Jin whispered.
“Yes he did,” You refuted. “He got overwhelmed. It happens, and you really need to let him explain. Please, Seokjinnie. Come home. Taehyung can come with us.”
Taehyung looked at you in surprise. “Uh...what?”
“I know you lied, you told me you lied. Jin, he still doesn’t know,” You whispered.
Jin held your gaze and nodded slowly. “He doesn’t. You’re right. We should fix that.”
“We should.”
Jin tugged Taehyung closer. “Please come with us?”
Taehyung looked Jin over, then glanced at you. “I don’t understand….”
When he looked back at Jin, Jin kissed him.
You studied the surprised stiffness in Taehyung, then the way he melted into Jin with a soft sound. You had to bring them both home. You had to bring your soulmates together.
Jin pulled away. “Come home, Taehyungie.”
Taehyung nodded, but you doubted he even knew he was doing that.
Yoongi was waiting outside, walking the perimeter of the yard as though restless. But the moment he heard the three of you, he turned and walked hurriedly toward all of you.
“Where are the others?” You asked, intervening before Yoongi could snarl out his worries because he looked ready to snarl at Jin and you didn’t want that.
Yoongi breathed deeply for a few seconds. “They’re inside. I told them I’d wait outside for you and to make sure there would be food ready when Seokjin-hyung returned.”
You nodded. “Okay. Why don’t we go in?”
Yoongi’s gaze locked on a nervous looking Taehyung. “This…?”
“Yes, now let’s go inside.”
Yoongi nodded, but instead of moving toward the house, he moved toward Jin. He stared at him for a long time, and then sort of dropped his head against Jin’s shoulder. “Don’t scare us like that.”
Jin nodded, sort of patting Yoongi’s back. “Let’s go inside. Y/n said I need to talk to Jungkook.”
The moment the door opened, the smells of various delicious dishes rolled out in waves.
Namjoon was just inside the door and he almost tackled Jin. “Why do you do this to me?!”
Jin hugged Namjoon back, but was looking past him with a hungry look. “Who’s cooking?”
“No one, Jungkook used his magic.”
Jin’s eyes widened slightly.
You grabbed Taehyung’s hand as the boy shrunk back a bit. “Come on. Let’s eat. Then talk. Talking is better when your stomach is full. Or so I’m told.”
Jungkook was waiting by the table, eyes wide and hopeful, but also regretful as he spotted Jin. “Hyung—”
“We’ll talk after we’re not hungry,” Yoongi cut in. “And I doubt hyung has eaten since he left so he’s likely very hungry. Let him eat.”
Jungkook hesitated and then nodded, moving so everyone could take a seat, but staring at Taehyung.
“Taehyung, that’s Jungkook, Jimin, Hoseok, Namjoon, and Yoongi,” You quickly glanced over everyone’s names. “Now sit and eat with us. They are fond of eating.”
“You’re not?” He asked carefully, and you saw the way Jimin and Hoseok looked up in surprise and then looked at each other at hearing his voice.
You shrugged. “It’s not essential for me. Get another glass for Taehyung?” You placed your plate and utensils in front of Taehyung, but you were thirsty. Actually, you felt parched.
But the drink you were craving was not water.
Hoseok was carrying the conversation, with Jimin contributing quite a bit and Namjoon commenting now and then.
Jin was definitely focused on eating, but that wasn’t surprising.
Taehyung’s eating habits were adorable, and you kind of wanted to pinch his cheeks while also giving him more food because he just seemed so...innocent and feedable.
But he was also enraptured by the conversation, soon joining in as his plate emptied.
Jimin was eating better too, which made your heart a little lighter.
Jin was putting pieces of meat on Jungkook’s plate before taking a second piece for himself and Jungkook was dutifully eating it, looking up at Jin every now and then with what you could only attribute as adoration or something similar.
Yoongi only spoke when Jin and Jungkook left together. “Stay put. Namjoon, let them talk it out without eavesdropping. Taehyung-ah, would you like some more pasta?”
Taehyung nodded.
You went to the kitchen as the boys continued eating, grabbing the herbs you needed and tucking them into the pocket in your skirt. “I’m going to go and bathe for a bit. Maybe we could watch a movie tonight? If those two work things out?”
Namjoon nodded quickly. “I’ll set everything up.”
“I’ll make popcorn,” Yoongi offered.
Taehyung just looked slightly terrified of you leaving him alone with them.
You went over and kissed his forehead. “You’re safe here, you know. And Jin will want you to be here when he’s done talking to Jungkook. It’s like a sleepover. They don’t bite. Well, Yoongi might when he’s a cat, but the others don’t.”
Yoongi huffed. “I only bite people who deserve it.”
“You bit me earlier!”
“You deserved it.”
You waited for Taehyung to nod before you headed for the basement.
You had an elixir to make.
“Don’t let me disturb you,” Jin called. “Just wanted to talk.”
You turned a bit, noting that he wasn’t in the room with you. “About?”
“I don’t know. I just...anything.” You heard him moving a chair.
“I’m not a fan of talking through walls or doors. You never know what Namjoon might overhear.”
“He can’t hear the basement.”
“Really?” You paused.
“It was one of the preventative measures put in place before you came. He was never strongly tied to the basement anyway. He can only sense when I jump on the stairs or if we were to break a window, or damage the foundation. Once we hit the stone floor, nothing.”
“So that he wouldn’t be harmed by my singing.”
“Well….”
“I understand. It’s fine. You and Jungkook work everything out?”
“Yeah. We’re good. Made up. He’s staying with me tonight.”
“Good. But what about Taehyung?”
“I was hoping you would convince him to stay.”
You smiled. “Oh, were you?”
“You’re very convincing. The boys are doing a good job of making him feel welcome, but you’re the cincher. You’re the tie that binds us together.”
You smiled and added the last ingredient to your magic elixir.
“I didn’t know Xana’s couldn’t be around death.”
“I didn’t know, either,” You answered, shivering a little at the memory. You poured the elixir into the gold gilt chalice.
“Good to know though.”
“Back to Taehyung, how do you suggest I convince him to stay?”
“I don’t know. You’re the expert.”
“I’m an expert? How so?”
“You’ve driven all of us mad at some point recently. Just follow your instincts. Wear one of those dresses.”
You grinned, fighting a giggle as you pulled a new dress from the water. Very alluring silk and lace nightgown, with a lace robe. Not too revealing. Classy.
Jin stood up and studied you, then stared at the chalice. “What is that?”
You offered it to him. “It is a gift.”
“And...you want to give it to me?”
“It is mine to give to whom I will, like my heart,” You quoted softly.
He gently placed his hands around the chalice, fingers over your own. “But...me?”
“You are the first, my first soulbond, it is only fitting that you drink ius caritate first,” You murmured, eyes following the chalice as he gently lifted it, keeping your hands on it under his. Watched as it reached his lips and he drank it, hesitantly at first, then calmly.
Watched his face as the chalice lowered from his lips, which turned upward into a smile, and his whole being seemed to glow and shine.
The chalice dissolved, just leaving your hands in his.
Then his lips were brushing yours lightly. “Thank you, y/n. I understand now.”
You smiled and let him pull you to his chest, drinking in his presence for just a few moments before he walked with you upstairs.
Yoongi was sprawled out on Jimin’s lap in cat form, fast asleep and purring.
Hoseok was playing with Jungkook’s hair, while the djinn looked ready to fall asleep.
Taehyung was in the middle of it all, looking surprisingly comfortable and talking casually with Namjoon.
Namjoon trailed off as he saw you, eyes widening.
Taehyung followed his gaze, and his jaw dropped.
Jungkook was very much awake.
Jimin eyes were raking over you.
Hoseok was gripping Jungkook’s hair.
Yoongi stayed asleep, even as Jimin set him down and came over to you, followed quickly by the others.
“Maybe we should do the movie in the morning,” You said softly, knowing they could all hear you. “Taehyung, would you like to stay the night?”
Jin was wrapping his arms around Jungkook.
Taehyung stared at you, then gulped, nodding once.
You mirrored the nod. “Come, I’ll show you a room.”
His gaze slowly drifted down to your offered hand, and he hesitantly took it.
You drew him upstairs, noting that the others weren’t following.
“There’s something going on here,” Taehyung said softly.
“There is,” You agreed.
“What is it?” He asked with slightly more insistence, but still leaning into the hand that you brushed his cheek with.
You let the lace robe slide down your shoulders, turning and revealing your soulmark to him. “You are the green.”
His long, beautiful fingers reached out and traced the outline of the mark in a featherlight touch that sent shivers all throughout your body. “Soulmates. You and them and...me...Jin-hyung?”
You nodded. “He’s the pink.”
“That one is so pretty,” He murmured, touching it. It had a sort of water-color, realistic look to it now.
“I’ve bonded with him the most. It’s all been going so fast,” You whispered, looking up at his face. You wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d had some xana in him at some point, he was so handsome. Ethereal.
Taehyung was chewing on his lip now. “And I’m one of you. One of your soulmates.”
“You are. It’s okay if you’re not ready, we’re all still trying to get comfortable with one another. I really was going to show you to a room you could stay in.”
He nodded. “I believe you. I wouldn’t have minded though….”
“Good to know,” You murmured. “Do you want your own room?”
He nodded again, a little more quickly. “Just...until I know everyone a little better.”
You nodded. “Whatever you need, Taehyung.” You turned slowly and led the way to the door of a room you knew wasn’t taken. “This one is empty. It’s yours.”
He opened the door and blinked as he looked inside. “I swear the bed just made itself.”
“There is a house haltija, a djinn, and a fairy here. Probably clean bedding.” You walked in to check and nodded. “Just a quick clean. Don’t worry. Namjoon has a strict privacy policy.”
Taehyung nodded.
“I’ll let you rest. There are probably some spare clothes in the dresser now. Make yourself at home,” You told him, smiling and leaving him to get comfortable while humming a tune.
Namjoon was in your room, and he looked up hesitantly as you came in.
You just smiled at him and went around to your side of the bed. “Staying with me tonight, handsome?”
He nodded. “If that’s okay?”
“It is.” You let the robe slip down and climbed into the bed. “The magic waters decided not to give me anything warm. I was hoping that meant someone would be here with me.”
Namjoon quickly joined you. “Yoongi was hoping he could stay with you, too.”
“He doesn’t usually ask,” You whispered, smiling.
“He knew I was going to. Wanted to make sure we were both okay with him coming.”
“I’m okay with it if you are,” You told him, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. You could get spoiled having so many lips to kiss around you.
Namjoon nodded slightly, then kissed you, a little more firm. A little more passionate.
You didn’t hear the door, or Yoongi walking through the room, but soon he was sliding into the bed behind you, arms around you and squeezing gently.
Namjoon let you come up for air, kissing down your neck before finding a spot that made your toes curl happily and sticking there.
Yoongi sighed. “So pretty.” And he kissed your cheek next to your ear. “Our pretty y/n.”
You smiled a bit as he yawned, leaning back against his chest and feeling his sleepy energy sort of seep into you as well. It’d been a long day.
Namjoon seemed to have found the spot he wanted to stay in to sleep as well.
You closed your eyes with a happy sigh.
You had all seven of your soulmates home and safe.

new things: day dream (m)
pairing: college teacher!doyoung + reader genre: smut, a hint of fluff (includes: dirty talking, name calling, bimbofication kinda, teasing) word count: 3,5k summary: Because the thing is, you had a plan. A very stupid one you’ll admit to that, but still it was a plan. A plan that involved seducing the teacher, to finally get him to pay attention to you. a/n: special thanks to the anons that sent me ideas for this one a while back. hope you guys enjoy this!
Tumblr media
Kim Doyoung was a very respectable man.
He had a passion about teaching that translated perfectly into the way he spoke to and addressed his students, making even the ones that were just taking his class to fill their curriculum interested in the matters of classical music theory. And to make it even better, he was as handsome as he was smart, getting every girl in the class to want a piece of him that they would never have.
It was endearing, really, to see all these girls and even some boys, that were here to get something as noble as a masters degree, going cross eyed because the teacher just happened to look too good for his own good. The giggles, long stares and sometimes blatant flirting were all funny to watch, even more because of Doyoung’s clear lack of interest.
And you… Well, you are very stupid and maybe have lost your damn mind. Because the thing is, you had a plan, a very stupid one you’ll admit to that, but still it was a plan. A plan that involved seducing the teacher, to finally get him to pay attention to you.
A plan that probably needed a little more planning involved, but it’s too late now for that.
Doyoung walks into the classroom, all white button up and neatly pressed slacks, his round glasses hiding the faint dark circles underneath his eyes from probably one too many nights gone without sleep, for the sake of grading papers. He’s wearing a caramel cardigan today and you think it’s an absolute crime that he can make something like that look so hot on him.
You sit on the first row, of course you do, and when his eyes lock onto you he looks stunned for a moment, eyes raking up and down your body because the outfit you had put together was anything but subtle. The short skirt that showed your legs too well, the closed cardigan the was a little too low on your cleavage, everything about it was planned perfectly in order for him to swallow drily as he placed his thing on the desk.
He clears his throat, gathering himself before he greets the class, telling everyone to open the article he had sent via email. It’s a boring lecture, mostly because of the fact you can’t focus on anything but the glances he gives your way and the words he speaks seem to slur together in sentences that don’t quite make sense.
But you don’t get distracted, no. You have a plan and there’s no turning back now, you had left shame outside the moment you stepped into this classroom with the thought of fucking the teacher clear as day in your mind. When he looks your way again, you put it into action.
It’s kind of like a game, you see. The first step is to get him to pay attention, which he does but without losing his composure, he’s better than that of course. But you have tricks up your sleeves, so you lean on the desk a little, bite on your lips enough that he raises one eyebrow in curiosity. And there you go, the second step is achieved as he becomes interested.
From there it’s easy, he lets himself look enough but not as much as you want, as if to not raise suspicion. It makes you feel giddy, finally basking in the attention most girls in this class could only dream of getting.
The class goes on with your shared glances, expectation making your blood boil in a way you haven’t felt in some time and it only makes you feel bolder. So when the lecture is finally over, you wait until every student has walked out of the classroom, as you watch him gather his things with his back turned to you.
He’s expecting you to make your way towards him, of course he is. And you can hear a chuckle leave his lips when he hears the sounds of your footsteps. For some reason, that only serves to incite you.
“Good evening, professor.” You say, voice too sweet as he turns to you.
He raises one eyebrow, in a challenge almost. “_______.” It’s simply said but you almost can’t help the smile that wants to form on your lips as your name falls from his lips. “How can I help you?”
He rests both his hands behind him on the desk, body leaning towards yours in nothing but an inviting way. You lick your lips, watching his eyes follow your movements. “You see… I have been having a little trouble with some of the readings from your class.”
It’s a stupid lie, cliche maybe with the way you say it feigning innocence, but he seems to find it all very amusing. “I see. May I know which ones in particular?” He asks with a glimpse of smile on his lips. “So I can know how to advise you, of course.”
You squint your eyes at him briefly, clearing your throat before you say the first thing that comes go mind. “That… That book with the blue cover, you know? The name escaped me, I’m sorry.”
This time he doesn’t even try to hold in the small laugh that escapes his lips. “Classical Form? It’s understandable that you would have some trouble with it.” He’s still smiling at you when he moves from the table, gathering his things. “Would you like to accompany me to my office, then? So I can assist you properly.”
You can’t agree faster, a smile turning the sides of your lips slightly upwards.
You follow him outside the class until you reach his office, a small room with a big shelf filled with books and music sheets, a fancy desk and a sofa that looks designer made and not something you would buy from ikea. He gestures for you to sit down, so you do, but still watching him closely as he locks the office’s door before walking to lean against his desk.
You cross your legs when he eyes you, making your skit rid up a bit. There’s a glint on his eyes before he’s breaking the silence. “Classical Form, then?” His voice is flat and your eyes stick glued to his lips. “I’ve left the copy I own at home, but I’m assuming you have brought yours?”
You haven’t, of course, but still you pretend to look around for it on the bag you had dropped on the couch, sighing loudly to indicate you obviously couldn’t find it. “I must have forgotten mine at home as well.”
He bites his lips then, holding in a clear smile. It’s endearing to watch him, as much as he must think it is to watch your silly attempts. “Miss ______, forgive me for saying this. But I think it’s not your readings that you need help with.”
‘Duh’ is what you want to say, but instead you smile bashfully at him. “Am I that obvious?”
“A little bit.” He says with a scoff, crossing his arms. “Tell me then what is it that you really want.”
Maybe it’s your mind playing tricks on you but he says it almost in a challenge, eyes not moving from yours as you stare right back at him. “What I really want? I don’t think you’re ready to know that, professor.” You say with a small laugh.
A loud laugh escapes his lips this time.
“You’re crazy.” He says amused and with a shake of his head. “I think I can handle it, _____.”
He falls for your bait too well and it’s thrilling, makes you feel more confident that he’s not only giving you his full attention but urging you on. So you play your cards. “The thing is,” Is what you start with, a grin of your own on your lips. “I’ve been very needy because of you.”
That makes him raise both eyebrows now. “Because of me? That’s a very harsh accusation.”
You scoff playfully, uncrossing your legs so you can balance your elbows on them and rest your chin on your hands. “Is it?” That’s a rhetorical question because next you add. “Did you know every girl in your class wants to sleep with you? Some of the men too.”
“I didn’t.”
“Liar.” You mumble, rolling your eyes, and that makes him smile at you, a playful one that looks way too cute for the situation.
A moment of silence passes before he’s asking. “Are you one of those girls then?”
Obviously, you think to yourself. Wouldn’t be here practically offering yourself for him if you weren’t. “Maybe I am.”
You decide then to get up from the couch, making your way to him with purpose and as if on cue, he’s opening his legs that were crossed before, but you don’t go that far. “And what would you like me to do about that?” He says it in a way that shows you he’s teasing, trying to embarrass you and that sends a thrill through your entire body.
“Are you trying to get me to say I want you to fuck me?” You take a step forward, standing in between his parted legs and if he wanted he could easily touch you. “Is that it, professor?”
“That would be inappropriate, relationships with students are not allowed.” His lips twitch as he says it, eyes roaming your face.
You fake a pout. “Am I not worth an exception?”
“Are you?” Another challenge, he seems to like them.
“Oh, I’m pretty sure I am.” And then you are stepping closer to him, close enough that he can move a hand to the back of your neck and smash your lips together.
So much for self control, you think. But even if Doyoung was apparently good at keeping his cool façade, you knew that deep down he was easy to break, easy to succumb to desperation. And he kisses you with exactly that, lips nipping at yours as he positions your head to his pleasing and you fall as putty as you’ll allow yourself.
You still chase his lips when he breaks the kiss, grabbing at the front of his shirt and bring him closer so you can take the direction of the kiss into your own hands this time. It’s just shy from messy, how you lick at his lips to get him to part them, how you slide your tongue against his in motions that make you lose your mind just a little bit.
He scoffs a little when this time he manages to break the kiss. “You’re really bold.” He says as a matter of fact, a little breathless and the hand still on your neck squeezes it just a little. “Do you like acting like a little slut, is that it?”
You fight back the urge to smile, instead biting your lips in a whole theatrical scene as his eyes stay fixed on your face. One of your hands move to his neck, then slither down to his chest where you pop open the first button of his shirt. “Maybe it’s because I want you too much, sir.”
A noise comes from the back of his throat. Then he’s stroking your cheek. “Will you let me do whatever I want then?”
You laugh now, separating from him just a little and now unbuttoning the first button of your already low cardigan, as if to match his. “Now who’s being bold?”
“You, again.”
“Ha! I only do it because you seem to like it.”
One of his hands come to your back, pulling you closer again. “So you will let me do whatever I want.”
Now you really say it, eyes on him with playful determination. “Duh.”
His throat bobs, jaw tense. And then he’s turning you around to face the desk, your hands coming in contact with the hard material of it.
It takes no time for him to press behind you, his interest on your little back and forth clear when you feel the forming bulge on his slacks. His hand roam your thighs, reaching the rem of your skirt and bringing it up. “Are you always a brat or is it just because you want my cock, hmm?” He whispers, pressing his cheek to the side of your head. You shiver in anticipation, lips parting at his foul language and hips moving backwards trying to press your ass even closer to his front.
“Why don’t you give it to me and see it for yourself?” It’s your bite back, earning a low chuckle from him that is a high contrast to the way his fingers squeeze your thigh in what you think is desperation.
With a grunt, he dips his hand inside your skirt, tip toeing around your skin in a way that makes it tingle, but it doesn’t stay at that. With a blink of your eyes he’s pressing his palm to your clothed core, the cotton fabric sticking to it in a way that makes you embarrassed from how wet you already were. But was it really your fault?
It makes him laugh lowly. “I don’t think I will.” And then he pushes his palm upwards, the friction on your clit making you whimper pathetically.
Of all the things you expected to happen, him dropping to his knees behind you were not first on the list for sure. You expected him to lose control a little, push your skirt up and fuck you while you still had your panties on, them pushed to the side as he pounded into you in a way that made your eyes roll. Deep and rough like you liked it.
What happens is a lost of control in different ways. In a way that involves him pulling your legs to his liking, making space for him between them. Your skirt gets bunched up on your back, your ass on display for him to squeeze and with his face so close that you feel the little puffs of air on your still covered core.
His hand squeezes your soft skin harder when you try to squirm and get him to finally do it. “Tsk, are you going to be good?” He asks, with a small slap to your ass to enhance his word. “Or are you going to continue acting like a desperate slut?”
A small part of you wants to be the desperate slut, get on his nerves and make him annoyed enough that he just fucks into you. You’re sure that he would be able to slide in without any difficulty with how wet you are. But you also want desperately to come, taking a guess that this wouldn’t be happening if you were to pick his second alternative. “I’ll be good.” You mutter finally, breathy voice as he rewards you by pushing your panties down.
It’s a second of just him close enough but not touching. Then he spreads your legs even more, getting you exposed enough so he can press his lips to where you wanted him the most. You cry out with no hesitation, hands gripping at the desk as his tongue laps on your entrance, spreading your wetness around in a way that is as collected as it is messy.
He eats you out with teasing as his goal, flicking his tongue in agonizing ways and sucking your clit with patience. It makes you absolutely crazy, twisting around on his hold and trying to get more friction, to make him move faster.
A loud curse leaves your lips when he dips his tongue inside your entrance, just the tip, and he reprimands you with another slap when you try to throw your ass back in attempts to get it deeper. “Ughnn, you are so mean.”
“I though you said something about being good.” He whines back at your, words muffled and sending vibrations through your core that make you clench a little around nothing.
“Pleasee.” You drag out the words when he laps slowly at your pussy, followed by kittenish licks. “I will if you give me what I want.”
Maybe it’s because he loses his patience finally, or maybe because you were very persuasive with how you look behind your back to catch his eyes just as he gets up from his kneeling position. He smiles at you, just shy from wicked. “Liar.”
The unspoken words are that he likes it that way. Likes that you talk back and squirm under his hold, likes that you act like a brat until he gives in. But he also likes that you’ll take it however he wants, that the only thing that will make you stop acting up is his cock deep inside of you.
And he gives you just that. The sounds of his belt clicking and pants being pushed down just enough to get his leaking erection out, making your head spin. Even more when he finally enters you, a yelp on the tip of your tongue as he bottoms out just like you thought, with no resistance at all.
“Fuck. This is what you wanted, hmm?” His voice is strained despite his attempt to seem calm as he moves his hips once slowly, erection gliding out of you coated with your arousal. Then he slams back inside, your nails trying to grip on the desk but you fail, your body plopping on the desk.
“Y-Yes.” It’s more a moan than anything else, your mind barely able to form coherent thoughts because it’s been so long, and you feel so full with him fucking you deep and fast like you wanted.
One of his arms encircles your middle and pulls you up so that your back is pressed to his chest, giving attention to your nipples as he grunts so close to your ear that the sound makes you clench around him, turning it into a pained moan.
“You’re just a dumb little slut aren’t you?” He asks with a pinch to your nipple. You nod dumbly, so close already that you have to squeeze your eyes shut. “Yeah, you are, my pretty dumb slut that will do anything to get fucked.”
This time your walls pulsate around him, a long whine coming from your lips as he fucks into you faster, hand gripping at your waist for leverage. “Ugnhn, fuck. It’s so - so good.” You manage to get out and the words are followed by your lips parting in a silent scream as he hits repeatedly the sweet spot inside of you.
It doesn’t take you long after that, your body shaking in his hold as you come with a loud moan, your hands moving back to grip at his clothed thighs as blinding pleasure washes over your body. You trash around when he continues fucking you, too sensitivity but it feels too good, your release making the slide even smoother.
He mutter incoherent sentences, moans of your name as his hips snap into yours quick and deep, until they falter and he’s coming inside of you, spurts of cum coating your walls as he lets a long ‘ah’ that sounds too melodic for just a man reaching his high.
You both pant heavily as you catch your breaths. Wrecked a word too simple to describe how you feel as he pulls out, tucking himself quickly inside of his pants, and you fall forward with both your hands supporting you on the desk.
He helps you put your panties back on, fixes you skirt with a pat to your ass that is as sweet as the kiss he presses on your bare shoulder before he’s turning you around and into his arms. Your cardigan has moved enough that your chest is exposed but he fixes that too. You can’t help the small smile on your lips when he kisses it.
“This was highly unprofessional.” He says after a while and you scoff, hand caressing his cheek affectionally.
“Please, we had to fuck in your office at least once in our lives.”
He gives you his gummy smile, as if amused that you both really just did that. A thing that had only been joked about before over the years you had been together. “But not while pretending you are student of all things.”
Now you laugh affectionately, slapping him playfully on the chest. “Says the man that played his part way too well. You liked it, you pervert.”
“I like anything that involves you, silly girl.” His answer makes your heart somersault in your chest. You watch as his eyes soften, the dark circles even more visible with his this close, so you caress it softly with your thumb. “I’m sorry that I haven’t been giving you enough attention, love.”
“It’s okay, baby.” You reinforce your words with a kiss to his lips, sweet and enough to make him sigh. “Now can we please go home so you can give me some more of it?”
The smile he gives you is your favorite from the entire night. Then he brings his hand to where yours is on his face, lacing your fingers together and bringing it to his lips so he can press a small kiss to the back of your hand. “Anything for my wife.”

Linguist MC Gets Angry
Nobunaga - East Malaysia (Borneo)
It was that moment when he lift her chin during their argument with "You have become very bold in lecturing me, aren't you, fireball?" And he expect for her to pout, or maybe sulk, just like she always do, but..
"OI. Ko pikir ko siapa oh??" (Translated: Oi. Who do you think you are??)
He blinked. Thrice. "..What-"
"Lucky charm la, bebola api la. Sa sumbat nasi lemak dalam pantat kau biar ko jadi api naga sana nah baru ko tau apa maciam jadi fireball. BUDUH la ko sana!" (Translated: Lucky charm, fireball. I will shove nasi lemak in your asshole and let you become a fire dragon so you know how a fireball is! IDIOT!)
Then she roll her eyes, flipping her hair before stomping off angrily, leaving bewildered Nobunaga alone in his Tenshu. "As expected of my lucky charm.. She is very unique indeed. Hmph."
Somehow he is happy. Not knowing what he is called just now.
Hideyoshi - Indonesian
"MC! Stop running in the hallway!"
"MC! Don't carry those stuffs! What if you fall and scrap your knees??"
God..! Another day, another nagging. What is he? Disciplinary teacher??
"MC--"
She fumed, turning to him with a gritted teeth, "Iya udahlah. Brisik, lebay banget sih. Cerewet betul orangnya. Anjir." (Translated : Yes, enough already. So noisy-- you are overreacting. Such a naggy person. You dog.) then earn a very confused Hideyoshi.
He literally froze, even when she look at him, up and down, shaking her head and continue with her task in hand.
It took him few minutes to realize that she is somehow cursing him, ...in a weird language.
Masamune - Korean
MC is a lucky woman. She got a handsome lover, the most good looking warlord (as voted by the women of Azuchi town), which is Date Masamune.
She would always be happy and giddy around him. If this is an animated world, she could see flying hearts all around her when he is nearby. But today..
Is not the best day. EVER.
Everything pisses her off. Ah yes, it's just what you think. That damn time of the month. Oh gosh she is angry, she was so, so angry thanks to her mood swings, and was trying her best not to show it away. Which she failed miserably.
Masamune had brought her to the tea house, not knowing she was cursing the whole time when she was walking. "Let's get an anmitsu, shall we? They say it was good as they imported those 'ice cream' thing." She smiled (not reaching her eyes) and nodded.
He had realized this; it could be those time of the month again, he thought. But maybe with some sweets and kisses, she would be better. Ah..! Good timing. The dessert has arrived and he instantly let her have a taste first. And another perfect timing. There was a stain of vanilla near her lips.
"Kitten."
"..Hm-"
His lips pressed against hers, aiming for the vanilla, yet also a sweet gesture that makes the people around them gasped. However..
"....YA!!" (Translated : HEY!!)
SMACK!
"OPPA MICHYEOSS-EO?? AISH- JINJJA!" (Translated : Oppa (A way to call a lover other than brother) are you crazy?? Aish- really!!"
His only eye widen like plate, taken aback and rub his painful cheek that were smacked by her. "K-Kitten- I didn't mean to--" What language is that anyway??
"Wait..! Lass!"
She already walk away, back to the castle before he realized it.
Note taken. No affection should be given when she is in a bad mood. "Ahh.. That time of the month is horrifying indeed.."
Mitsuhide - West Malaysian (Semenanjung)
If Mitsuhide could choose one thing that he like about MC, it would be (obviously) her interesting reactions to his teasings. Her angry face, her pouting face, and her frowning is his favorite, yet there's one thing he always be curious about.
She never get angry. As in really, really angry. Especially towards him. Sometimes he think she is too pure for him, loving him to the point she won't do such thing no matter how hurt she is.
"AMBOI." (Translated : Interjection word used to express angry/admiration/wonder feelings. But in this case, it's for feeling angry)
'Amboi' what now? For as long as he live, such word is new to him. He read her gesture-- furious expression, hands on hips,.. Ah, it could be an angry word? "I believe I require for you to explain what does that mean. Is it a new language other than Japanese back in your time--""Hang diam." (Translated : You be quiet.)
Miraculously he stopped, somehow feeling uncharacteristically nervous to her unknown language. She huffed, shaking her head, "Hang ni memang dah takda keja ka hah? Dok asyik nak cuba buat aku marah. HAH tahniah pada hang la aku dah marah ni. Perangai poyo. Nasib hang hensem kalau tak dah lama aku hantaq hang ni pi kahwin ngan Hideyoshi. Hisshhhh!" (Translated : Don't you have any other work to do, huh? Do nothing but keep on trying to make me angry. HAH. Congratulations to you, I AM angry. You act like a damn show-off. Thankfully you are handsome or else I would've sent you to get married with Hideyoshi. Hisshhhh!)
"....." He watched her turn around with a groan, and couldn't bring himself to call out for her. Trying to understand what she's trying to say (which obviously NOTHING), all he can understand is the word 'Hideyoshi'. "Somehow I don't think it's a good thing."
Duh.
Ieyasu - Chinese
"How many times do I have to tell you to NOT overdo it?"
"But-"
He takes the bow and arrow from her, despite the adorable way she pouted; which is very hard for him.
...Not knowing she was not pouting, but being angry. Seriously angry.
"I know you are worried about me, but just give me chance to learn more about this..! Bow and arrow is way better than a sword itself don't you agree?"
"No."
"It is not for the purpose of killing, obviously. It's for me to protect myself! I'm determined to do it! H-hey wait..!"
He already walk away from her, giving the weapon to a nearby vassal before continuing with a grunt, "No means no. I've told you that there's no such need to do so as I will be the one to protect you, have you forgotten that?"
"Of course I didn't! But let me just--"
"No buts."
"Ieyasu--..!!"
"...No."
"Stop right there!"
He ignored her, and continue to walk yet about to give another answer when she suddenly shout on top of her lungs;
"Ni zhè wángù de háozū. Ni yiwéi ni shì shéi? Ni bixū ganxié wo méiyou zài ni yan li sāi jièmò!" (Translated : You stubborn porcupine. Who do you think you are? You have to thank me for not stuffing mustard in your eyes!")
...in a weird language.
Making the nearby vassal goes ( ☉д⊙)?? until the bow and arrow in his hands loosen its grip.
"Hmf! Fine!"
Ieyasu swallowed the lump in his throat, he didn't know why but he got a feeling he will be sleeping in a different bedchamber tonight. Obviously.
Mitsunari - Romanian
Being a chatelaine; particularly appointed to be the tactician's assistant, is NOT easy.
Yeah, okay. He is the less complaining type. The one who is easy to discuss with, and the one who won't make your eyes roll. Haha. Ha. Ha. Nope.
Mitsunari as a whole is easy. But to ask him to eat is NOT easy. There were time when he mistook MC's hair as ramen, and her fingers as crab stick, to MC's misery. It will take half of her life to successfully feed him completely, making the bowl empty until there's no rice grain left.
Eyes glaring at the book in his hands, MC tried for another method. "Mitsunari. Look at me."
"....."
She take the book away from him. "Mitsunari. Look. Here."
"....Hm? Oh- oh..! Hello princess I didn't see you there-"
His cheeks were then cupped tightly with her hands as she said with a gritted teeth; "Hei! Vrei să-ți dau una peste față cu un dicționar sau cu un morcov. Alege!" (Translated : Hey! Do you want me to smack your face with a 1000 pages of dictionary or a carrot? Choose!) ...while squeezing her cheeks inwards until his face literally goes like this ( O)3(O ).
"Mmh- mmmh- mmm." He nodded, silently gulped to the flare of glare in her eyes.
"(눈‸눈)....(❁´◡`❁) Good!" And she hopped away happily, placing his meal in front of him before tossing away such book from his room (which got a handful of nagging session because the book accidentally knocked on passing Hideyoshi).
Kenshin - East Malaysia (Kadazan)
He is strucked with nightmare again. Nightmare of MC leaving him, but it was.......
Ridiculous.
"I saw an animal, similar to Motonari's pet. But bigger. We were about to get married, and it came. Placing you in its pouch, jumping away no matter how I've tried to reach to you. Even with my fastest horse-- I- I couldn't--"
MC watched as he cupped his face, being emotionally emotional, secretly pursed her lips to hold back her anger. Yes. Anger. It was not of pity but anger.
First, she had a rough day lately. Lack of sleep, that's for sure.
Second, when she FINALLY get some rest, certain good looking dragon shakes her in the middle of the night, telling a story about a kangaroo kidnapping her during their wedding.
Problem is--
They are already married for fu- fish sake.
"I see now. There there. It's just a silly nightmare. You will be fine."
"It's not MC..! You were kidnapped..! Just like those days when you were attacked and I wasn't there-- and--"
"Yes, yes, I understand. Now let's forget about it slowly and once you get some sleep those dream is nothing more than a dream itsel-"
"I can't forgive myself..! MC-- I--"
"Kada agagau, Avantang tanak laja do kusai! Siodop noh ku tih!" (Translated : Shut up handsome prince! I want to sleep!) She said under one breath, and with a grumpy huff, she takes all the blanket and sleep facing the other side.
Meanwhile, Kenshin: ( ゚д゚).... (He was dumbfounded until sunrise)
Shingen - Tagalog
She had found herself being kabedon-ed again.
In any other normal days, this is how he start their daily routine - flirting session. Her eyes stared at those openly broad chest in front of her, ah that is so nice. That will be a very nice feeling if she could feel it with her palms now but--
Ah, she is tired. Her body feels like a log-- heavy and tired, and slumpy. It is as if all, ALL the fatigue in the world just slapped her-- no, just KICKED her on her lower belly area; yes, that time of the month is coming soon. There comes the usual pre-menstrual syndromes, she feels fatigued, clumsy, and most importantly,.... irritation. Irritated to the point his handsome voice couldn't reach her ears.
He then let out a chuckle, lifting her chin to kiss it, when her already bored eyes changed into menacing ones as she grunted, "Hoy! Dyan ka lang, poging oso na to. Subukan mo kong halikan, pagtatatadyakan ko kalamnan mo hanggang walang matira!" (Translated : Hey! Stop right there you charming bear, if you dare to kiss me I will kick your guts until there's nothing left.).
It instantly send jolt of cold shivers all over him, hands automatically back away from her and legs took a step back cautiously. "I- I'm.. sorry..?"
"Hmn (눈‸눈). You are lucky. For now."
Shingen gulped, lips pressed tight as he watch her go with the same scowl on her face all the way. "Somehow I... Escaped a death warning.. Maybe? Heheh. Heh. Uhm--" Feigning a cough, he pats his chest to calm his rapid heart beat of fear.
Yukimura - English (Just assume all this while they were speaking Japanese and suddenly she let out this language)
"H-hey wait-- MC..!!" He chased after her, who have been stomping her way off from another of their short arguments of the week. Yukimura realizes this, it's good for relationship bond they say, but he can't help but to be afraid of it. Usually it will be him to start it, but this time,...it came from her.
With "Get away from me, damn it!" As a morning greeting. All of sudden. Making him confused, thinking if he had offended her a day before, of which he just came back from long mission that took him a week. And to assume he will be greeted with a hug, or a kiss, or maybe a word of "I miss you" plus a cute smile of hers, is indeed wrong.
"MC please..! Just tell me what's going on?? Did I make you wait for too long? But I have informed you that I will be in a long missio-- hey MC did you hear me?? Just stop stomping off like a REAL wild boar will you--"
Ah. She stopped. That is definitely an ultimate magic word.
"Inform-- informed you say--" He stared at her trembling fists, but before he could hold her shoulders, he was startled to her change in language--
"(English) Informed MY FOOT! There's no single letter coming, NONE! I don't see any damn birds nor eagle or those pelican whatever bird that is assigned to send your letter! I've been worried sick, and you came back yesterday to just casually slipped into the bed to sleep?? To. Just. Sleep?? Even without KISSING or HUGGING ME?? YOU- YOU- *sniffs* EEEHHHEEEE ˚‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥A˂̣̣̥ )‧º·˚!!"
"Wha- wha- WHAT LANGUAGE ARE YOU SPEAKING AUDJSHDKSKSF ( ☉д⊙) SPARE ME WILL YOU--"
Too late. Shingen and the others has appeared to separate him away from her, and Sasuke has made him feel EXTRA guilty after translating it.
Sasuke - Nepali
Sasuke blinked at his wife, who is currently glaring at him. "MC, you look like those meme with a bald man with hands on hips." He said casually, earning a loud sigh from her as reaction.
"I believe you are still injured from your previous trap check in the ceiling, and I believe I've told you to have a meal and rest, so why are you still here, sitting on your futon, and clean your weapons?"
"...MC, you will be a good inspector because you have a very detailed report (´・_・`)👌."
"..Honey. I am NOT in the MOOD to be playing around now ʕʘ̅͜ʘ̅ʔ."
Pressing his lips shut in instant, he nodded at her while placing his weapon away. "I apologize, MC. I will eat my lunch now, as you wished. I wouldn't want to make my wife worried."
She huffed through her nose, pursing her lips before narrowing his eyes at him. "Really? You promise."
"Yes. ..But may I have the permission to clean another set of my shuriken and kunai, I will be rest assured if I do so--"
"...SARUTOBI SASUKE! TYO FERI GARA ANI MA TIMRO SISA SANO THUKRAMA FUTAERA TIMRO CHAMAL SANGA MISAUCHU ( ☉д⊙)!" (Translated : Do that again and I will break your glasses into small pieces and mix it with your rice!)
"....." The box of weapon in his hands fell, despite having expressionless emotion on his face.
"EAT. NOW." She groaned before stomping away angrily, continuing to curse in any other languages.
Meanwhile, Sasuke who turned to his phone after MC stomped away be like
"...If only my phone is alive. I want to translate that (´◦_◦`)."

thoughts on transman/transmasc Toph? 👉🏾👈🏾
(Okay so I know I took long to respond but I wanted this to be good so please forgive me (because if anyone is an example of having to perform a role your parents and society picked out for you but then breaking out and owning who you are, it is Toph. Honestly if you are trans and reading this I admire you and you are stronger than the whole fire nation army).
Toph would have just have ended the iconic “you thought I was just a blind little girl” speech with “oh and newsflash I am not even a girl” before joining team avatar. Not willing to hide anymore he would come out to the gaang directly and:
Sokka would take Toph on an obligatory shopping trip for new clothes directly (you know he would jump to the chance)
Sokka would just call Toph bro, Aang would say buddy, Katara would say: so I guess now i also have a little brother since a big one wasn`t enough
Toph and Katara would still get their spa day in ba sing se only now they also go shopping again because Katara secretly judges Sokka`s style choices and wants Toph to have variety
the bounty hunters are taking longer to find Toph because they would just be so confused (I thought we were supposed to find Lao Beifong’s daughter but all I see is a boy with a really evil grin)
“So this means the boulder never got beat by a girl!” “Yes but he can still be!” *Cut to Katara and Suki ready rumble*
Katara just knowing she had lost as soon as the stage!Toph came on in the ember island play (Toph: I told you, it is accurate Katara, arms crossed: they did make you taller though Toph: yeah cause I deserve it)
Toph on bending metal: Yeah you know once you have broken through one construct, you kinda can break them all you know?
“What`s in your pants?” “Idk I can`t see duh”
One day when Toph felt insecure about his identity Sokka insisted on both them putting on water tribe warrior make up because that alsways works wonders on his confidence (he also took Toph ice doging after the war you can`t change my mind). Aang obviously had to join as well and since they were on a roll they decided to just take out some fire nation battleships
Not that Toph could not speak for himself but of course the whole gaang is always ready to fight everyone who is even slightly disrespectful (Random fisherman: But how do you know you are not a girl? Katara: How do you know you are not a fish? Katara: *Uses her bending water to straight up slam him into the ocean*)
When Toph came out to Zuko (who from day one had just been like “shit another powerful 12 year old boy who I am up against but this one isn`t even a pacifist”) he told him directly that he was the strongest guy he had ever met. (And of course Toph knew he was telling the truth)
Also, this would be canon:
Sokka: trans people can do everything!
Toph: trans people can pull scams!
Katara: Just because trans people can do everything does not mean they should do everything!
Sokka: Alright let me reframe.
Sokka: trans people should pull scams!
(btw disclaimer: I am a cis gal so if anything I wrote offends you or you feel like this was not my post to make please call me out, I will take it down)

Finally got around to continue on with our universe. Forgive me for my procrastination 😏.
- Rex has this cute, boyish crush on Ms.Tano awww,
- Cody might once or twice call out Mr.Kenobi on his bullshit essay assignment lol (he still thinks it's his fav teacher tho),
- Yoda as a principal omg yes?!,
- like most of the time students and teachers don't know what he is talking about during school assemblies, is he being too philosophical or is Mr.Yoda just straight up high 😂,
- Din becoming a new superintendent of the school district? Honey, that's an amazing idea, duh,
- Now he dresses up to work in this nice, sleek suits, (probably provided by Boba),
- You enjoy this look on him,
- He'd still pull up to his office in this besr up truck of his tho,
- Now you and Din work even closer, given your position in social work,
- So... Office sex? 🥵,
- Din sometimes taking Grogu to his office, letting him wreck havoc while in there , renaming the files on his computer to gibberish and doodling little froggies on his documents,
- You are basically Din's assistant at this point, because he doesn't know how to be organized 😂,
- He'd still visit his old class because he misses his precious kiddos,
- omg Grogu carrying his Mr.Froggers in this cute little, clear backpack, hell yes,
- Din won't abuse his newly given authority, always staying humble and still carrying about children's education and well-being (this is peek bde right there, C'mon, let him finally bring Mandalore to its former glory),
- Rex asking Ms.Tano if she could join them for the library story time,
- Din the tiddiy man to the rescue!
- You won't ever be able to complain about pain in sensitivite breasts during your periods or pregnancy, because his big, warm hands all always ready to take gentle care of the tiddies,
- Omg, Din losing his composure because of your milk factory, he'd love to keep you pregnant for the rest of your lives lol,
- Paz work out routine always ending up in some kind of wrestling with you,
- He'd walk shirtless around the house, flexing his ripped muscles, because he loves how it makes you flustered, cheeky bastard,
- and of course his gray sweats™ deliciously hugging his thighs and other curves 🥵,
- he'd try to teach you some type of arm to arm combat for the self defense purposes,
- but your lessons don't last long,
- his size!kink going berserk when your delicate hands try to overpower him,
- he'd just simply manhandle you onto the floor lol,
- Boba won't admit that out loud, but he loved when you once put your hand around his throat while you were riding on his dick,
- He's dom through and through, obviously,
- But letting his princess take a lead?,
- he'd try to put your hands around his throat from time to time, until you catch on that,
- but don't get too carried away,
- once you slapped his ass,
- let's say he wasn't amused at all,
- ''Princess having grabby hands? Let me show you how it is done'',
- you weren't able to sit straight for the next few days
Sorry, again I went all over the place with those but I hope everyone will enjoy them anyways - 🐣
Its fine darling, I took a break from asks yesterday anyway! 💕
Office sex with Din you say?
Imagine walking into his office in a pencil skirt, and you are talking business but Din is just staring at how fucking perfect your thighs look in that skirt
And how your tits pull at your button down shirt
The next thing you know he's kissing you and locking the door, before wrestling you on his very cluttered and unorganized desk
If everybody didn't hear you, they definitely heard Din and incessant praising of your outfit and body
Now, Din doesn't even know how to understand principal Yoda most of the time, and the dude was there when HE was in school
All the kids have bets going on how old Yoda truly is, but he won't tell anyone
Rex having a crush on his favorite teacher? 1200/10 great idea
Rex totally got ecstatic when she showed up to library story time, and he pulled her down to sit with him
Cody totally teases him for it, but Rex shoots back about Mr. Kenobi and Cody just turns red and walks away
Imagine spending a whole weekend help Din organize his office, only to walk in on like a Thursday afternoon and find Grogu sitting at the desk doodling on papers and a bunch of files scattered on the ground while Din sits on his couch that he has and is reading over things
You'd be so mad and yell at both of them
Grogu's frog is now Mr. Froggers, thats its name
Now we talked about Din and your tiddies, but what about you and Paz's tiddies?
Paz just going about his workout routine shirtless, and the whole time he just knows that you are ogling his chest and arms, flushed and ready to pounce on him
Paz lifting weights? You're watching his thighs flex the entire time his doing squats
And when he's bench pressing, if your not watching hits arms you're staring at the delicious outline in those grey sweats that you can't decide if you love or hate
Joining Paz for his after workout shower, only for him to add to the work out by slamming you into the wall and doing some hip thrusts 😉😉
And Paz trying to teach you some self defense? Man gets so turned on, especially when you land a good punch on him (he loves a good strong and confident partner)
The first time you actually pin him down, he has you flipped and is wrestling you hard from behind as a reward for doing so good, and because you had made him achingly hard
Boba with a choking kink you say?
The first time you did it, it was on accident as you were cumming and you just needed to grab something, you were aiming for his shoulder but in your bliss you missed
When you squeezed slightly Boba was shocked at how much he actually enjoyed it
After that he'd start grabbing your wrist and putting your hand on his throat, but if you squeezed to hard or tried to take control he would grip your wrist roughly as a warning
The one time you smacked is ass, he just growled at you flipping you over whispering what you said in your ear, before wrestling with you the roughest that he ever has
Oh but imagine, sitting on Boba's lap at a club, he's talking business and you're tipsy and horny as all fuck so you move and straddle his leg and start rubbing yourself against him slowly trying to get his attention
Boba just acts like this is normal, placing one hand on your waist, while it was very obvious that the person he was talking to got thrown off guard
That night when you finally get home, Boba wrestles you into bed telling you that you are such a needy little one
Anyway, I got carried away here, woops 🤷‍♀️

the second first date
this week on ezzy can’t title: this. quick tw for brief discussion of self harm and a mentioned suicide attempt, but this is 99.9999% cute fluff.
-
Cady had a tendency to talk in her sleep, as Janis had learned during several sleepovers. Most of the time it didn't make sense to Janis (or Cady the next morning) but wasn't particularly concerning. Things like:
"Janis. I hate oranges." Good to know. Or, "Janis, the birds are back." Mildly alarming, but they she didn't seem bothered by them. Or, "Janis, why do we have eyebrows?" A valid question.
Occasionally it was cute little things, like:
"Janis, you're my favorite." Janis had to fight to contain a squeal. Or, "You're so pretty." Janis just blushed violently and continued listening. Or, "I need more snuggles." Obviously, Janis pulled her closer and kissed her forehead.
And every once in a while it was something particularly ominous that kept Janis lying awake after, like:
"When did I die?" Huh? Past tense? Or, "How does it know?" How does what know? Or, "Don't mess with me, I know lions." A genuine threat, thankfully not aimed at Janis (she hopes).
Which is why Janis is more than a little concerned when Cady suddenly sits bolt upright in the middle of the night, Janis bracing herself for whatever strange things will come out of Cady's sleep addled mind next. But then Cady turns to her, and she's awake.
"I never got to take you on a surprise date. Our first date was your turn, I never got my turn," She says blearily, eyes full of genuine concern.
"Shh, baby. You can start planning your surprise date in the morning. Go back to sleep, it's late, Princess," Janis croons, pulling Cady back into her embrace.
"Mmkay," Cady hums, seeming content with that as she tucks herself into Janis' neck and falls back asleep almost immediately.
-
When Janis wakes up the next morning, Cady is already at her desk, scribbling away in a notebook. "Why are you all the way over there?" Janis whines sleepily, reaching for her.
"Because you pushed me out of bed and stole all the blankets, you loon. I figured I might as well get started planning," Cady giggles, coming back over for their morning cuddles.
"What do you have so far?" Janis asks, her voice still rough with sleep.
"The whole point is that it's a surprise, Jay. You'll find out when it happens," Cady answers, pulling Janis into her lap.
"Fine," Janis grumbles. She likes knowing things. "When is it happening?"
"Saturday?"
Janis checks her calendar on her phone, sometimes her mom makes her watch her sister on Saturdays. "Works for me, baby," She answers when nothing appears.
"Good," Cady answers. She's has about a week to prepare now, which she needs. She only came up with half an idea.
-
One Janis goes home, Cady immediately pulls out her phone and sends a text to her group chat with the former Plastics.
africabytoto: Guys, I'm taking Janis on a date Saturday and I only came up with an idea for part of it, can you help me????
Gretchen, as always, answers first.
fetchen: You could just take her to dinner or something?? That's always nice
It does sound nice, but not quite right. Janis' ideas were both perfect, Cady wants to do even better for her.
ofmiceandkaren: Gretch took me to a bookstor on our first date!! I picked a storie and she red it to me by the pond! 📷‍📷️‍📷‍📷📷📷📷📷
africabytoto: Aww, that's so cute! Nice name btw
ofmiceandkaren: thanks !! I picked Of Mice and Men but spoylers, ❌📷 it is not even about mice. Gretchie sayd I shuld make it my name anyway 📷📷
That idea is much more Janis, she loves to read, but it still doesn't feel quite right. Maybe they'd do it on another date. Ironically, Regina comes up with the best idea.
bowdownbitches: the fair just opened for the year, you could take her there. Janis loves roller coasters and stuff. or she used to, anyway.
africabytoto: Gina that's perfect!!!! Thanks guys, I'll see you at lunch tomorrow 📷📷
Cady's only seen fairs in movies and has always wanted to go to one, so it's a slightly selfish endeavor, but she does remember hearing Janis rave about them.
——-
When Saturday finally rolls around, Janis is slightly panicked. Cady only told her to wear good walking shoes and dress "decent but not fancy", as if Janis had any idea what that meant. Damian was out of town for the weekend, so she can't ask him to dress her like she normally does.
Then she remembers that she has a baby sister who is actually very good with fashion for her age, so she goes to the top of the stairs to call for her.
"Juju!"
"What?"
"Can you come pick my outfit for my date tonight?"
And suddenly her sister is barreling up the stairs top speed, nearly plowing her down. Apparently she's excited. Janis leads her to her bedroom, opening her closet and dresser drawers for Juliana to dig through.
"Gimme your phone," Julie says once she enters.
"Why?" Janis asks suspiciously, but unlocking and handing it over anyway.
"So I can ask Cady where she's taking you, duh," Julie answers.
Julie taps into her messages, scowling a little at the Cady Girl 📷📷 contact name. Gross.
Jellybean: hey it's julie, janny asked me to pick out her clothes, can u tell me where ur taking her?? i'll delete the messages so she doesn't see
Caddy Cakes: Haha I believe it, but prove it's really you first. Janis is sneaky like that.
Juliana snaps a selfie of herself making a peace sign, showing Janis laying face down on her bed in the background.
Jellybean: Sent a picture: crisis mode Janis feat. me
Caddy Cakes: Aww poor thing D:
Caddy Cakes: I'm taking her to that pottery painting place and then to the fair.
Jellybean: god you two are so sappy. thanks, cady
Caddy Cakes: Not a problem, just make sure to delete these!! Love ya kiddo 📷️
Though she's loathe to admit it, that does get a grin out of her as she deletes the messages and passes the phone back to her sister.
Juliana goes to root through the drawers first, pulling out Janis' favorite swirly tights and a white long sleeved shirt with black roses painted onto it. She lays them on the bed and goes to the closet next, pulling out a plain black skirt, Janis' doc martens, and one of her painted denim jackets.
"Go put this on and then I'll do your hair and stuff," Julie demands, shoving the pile at her sister.
"Yes, ma'am," Janis says, immediately heading into the bathroom and putting everything on. Julie did very well, as she always does.
Once she comes back, her sister sits her on the ground to do her hair, pulling it to the side opposite her shave and braiding it loosely over her shoulder as she tells Janis what makeup to do. It's almost exactly what she normally does, but with black lipstick instead of her usual purple.
It's a rather monochrome look other than the jacket, but Janis decides she's into it as she looks in the mirror. She goes over to ruffle her sister's hair in thanks, barely getting to before the doorbell rings.
Julie rushes past her to get the door before Janis can, throwing the door open and wrapping her arms around Cady's waist. It had taken her a long time to forgive Cady for what she had done to her sister, but once they started dating Cady had tried very hard to form a bond with her. It had worked.
"Oof," Cady grunts as an eleven year old that's roughly the same size as she is suddenly collides with her. "Hey, mini Jay. How are you?"
"Good. Janis is losing it." Julie answers as she lets her go, hiding behind her to avoid Janis' wrath as she yells "Watch it, kid!" from the top of the stairs on her way down.
"Hi, lovey," Cady coos from where she stands in the doorway, instantly melting away Janis' tough facade and earning her a small scowl from Juliana. "You did good, Jules. These are for you, by the way." She says, handing the little one a small bouquet of pink roses.
"You look cute," Janis says once her sister runs away to find a vase with a happy squeal. She really does, Cady's in a grey jumpsuit with a pink leather jacket on top and her white high tops, and her hair is styled in the same way it was when they first met. Janis always loved that little braid crown.
"So do you. Juju really did a good job," Cady purrs, cupping her cheek with her free hand to finally kiss her. "Is your mom home? These are for her," She says, brandishing a larger bunch of tulips.
"I think she's in the kitchen. Mama!" Janis calls, her mother appearing down the hall. Janis just gestures to the flowers.
"Yes? Oh, hi Cady. Ooh, these are beautiful, thank you, hon," She says, taking them and hugging her gently.
"You're welcome, Ms. Sarkisian," Cady answers, returning her embrace. She's also had to work pretty hard to get Janis' moms trust back. She's incredibly thankful Ms. Sarkisian was so forgiving.
"I've told you to call me Ettie, doll. Ms. Sarkisian just makes me feel old," She tuts, Cady knowing there's no way in hell she'll ever be able to refer to her girlfriend's mother by her first name, and especially not a nickname. "Janis, can I expect you home tonight?"
Janis looks at Cady, who shakes her head. "No, I'm gonna spend the night at her house if that's okay," She answers.
"Of course it is. Just be safe and responsible, you know my boring rules," Ms. Sarkisian responds, handing over her always-ready sleepover bag. "I love you, baby girl. Have fun, ladies. Call if you need anything." She pushes them towards the door after Janis hugs her goodbye tightly.
"Your mom is the best," Cady says once they're alone on the porch. "Anyway, theeeeese are for you." She hums as she grabs a bundle of something from the bench next to them.
Janis had been a little confused as to why her mom and sister had gotten flowers and not her, but it makes a bit more sense when she looks to see the bouquet of... paintbrushes?
"You remembered what brand of brushes I use?" Janis asks, almost in awe. The brushes are tied together with a little purple ribbon, the bow a little sloppy. A personal Cady touch.
"Kind of. I remembered what they looked like from watching you paint all the time and then just wandered around some craft stores for, like, two hours until I found ones that matched," her girlfriend answers.
Janis is touched. "I- thank you, baby. I've been needing new ones," she mumbles, touching the soft end of one gently before leaning down to kiss her. She's a little worried, those brushes are kind of expensive.
"You're welcome, darling. Now let's go, we're gonna have fun!" Cady cheers, dragging her towards her little car by the hand and opening the door for her.
Cady is going into her maps app as Janis buckles her seatbelt, tapping a few times to get directions to the first destination. Suddenly, the loud, robotic voice of Siri reverberates through the car, saying, "Starting route to You're Kilning Me! Pottery House," and making them both jump.
Janis starts practically cackling as Cady frantically tries to stop Siri ruining the surprise, yelling "SHUCK!" over the voice. "It was supposed to be a surprise," she pouts once the phone finally goes quiet.
"Oh, baby, it's okay. I still don't know the second part," Janis offers, as Cady genuinely looks distressed. "And I've never been there before, so it's still kind of a surprise."
"Fine," Cady grumbles. "Do you actually want to go here? We can go do something else if you think it's lame."
"No! Baby, this sounds fun," Janis comforts, pulling her into a hug across the center console. "I'm always down to paint, you picked this because you knew I would like it. Let's go decorate some cute little trinkets." She pecks Cady on the nose gently before letting her go.
"Thanks, Jayjay. Now stop being so nice, tonight's about you," Cady demands, taking her hand as they pull out of the driveway.
"As you wish, Peanut," Janis giggles.
——
The place isn't totally Janis' vibe, but she does have to admit it's very cute. The walls are a lime green and covered in various colored handprints, and there's shelves with hundreds of white figurines ready to be decorated.
"So... I thought we could pick and decorate something for each other? If you want," Cady says shyly, squeezing Janis' hand gently.
"Of course I want, Princess. That sounds adorable. Now close your eyes, it should be a surprise," Janis says, letting Cady go to browse the shelves. "No peeking."
Cady covers her eyes with a giggle. "Okay, Jay, I won't."
Janis looks for a minute, nearly picking a little lion piggy bank before remembering Cady already has so many lion things. She finds a butterfly figurine, looking as if it's about to take off, tucked away on one of the lower shelves. Butterfly is her personal favorite nickname for Cady. It's perfect.
She tucks it into her jacket so Cady can't see it before going and pulling her hands off her eyes. "Your turn, Peanut," she says, finding a table that has a divider in so they can paint their things without the other seeing.
Cady comes to find her a few minutes later, resting her jacket over the back of her seat and plopping herself down. Janis hears a little clink as Cady rests whatever ceramic thing she's picked on the table.
An overly cheerful employee comes over to give them their palettes and bottles of glaze, as well as a little chart explaining how many layers to apply for different results. Janis immediately goes for magenta, purple and dark blue, deciding to paint one of the wings of her butterfly as the bi flag. Cady's been wanting more pride stuff.
Cady watches Janis work for a second before remembering she also has something to decorate. She found a coffee mug with a matching coaster in the shape of a paint palette, which is very Janis. She loves coffee.
One by one Cady works her way through the colors of the rainbow, painting little heart-shaped paint splotches on the coaster and colorful drips down the side of the mug. Janis looks a little confused as to what she could be doing with all those colors, but doesn't question it. Cady decides to take a break once she finishes her first layers, watching Janis who is working intently and chattering away at the same time.
"What are you looking at?" Janis asks once she notices her, switching to grab some yellow glaze.
"My beautiful girlfriend," Cady flirts, laughing when Janis flushes with a slightly embarrassed squeak.
"You're not so bad yourself, babe," She manages once she's recovered.
"Thank you, Jay. So what do you think of this place? Be honest," Cady says, grabbing a thin brush and some black glaze to continue decorating the mug.
"It's cute! I'm having fun, we should come back here sometime," Janis answers as she starts sketching some little in-jokes about their relationship on the butterfly's other wing. She's kind of regretting painting it yellow; the colors don't really go together, but yellow is Cady's favorite.
"Good," Cady hums. "But I'm more excited for the next part."
"Where are we going next?" Janis coaxes.
"Nice try. One part of this date is going to be a surprise or so help me," Cady grumbles as she very carefully brushes 'I love you' on the very bottom of the inside of the mug.
"Fine," Janis fake-pouts, moving now to paint the legs and antennae of the butterfly.
-
Once they finish putting the final layers of glaze on, they carefully bring up their beautiful creations (one at a time to maintain the surprise) to the front desk to be fired. Cady would pick them up once they were done in about a week.
Cady makes Janis wait outside the car as she puts in the GPS information to keep the location a surprise, and starts digging through her bag for something as Janis is finally allowed to slide into her seat.
Eventually she finds what she was looking for, brandishing a bandana to be used as a blindfold.
"Kinky," Janis teases as she begrudgingly takes it and ties it around her eyes.
"Get your mind out of the gutter, you loser," Cady huffs, reaching out to tickle Janis to make sure she can't see anything. She apparently can't, because she shrieks with laughter as Cady's hand wiggles over her ribcage before grabbing it to hold, lacing their fingers together.
Cady reaches to turn the radio on to keep Janis entertained, giving her hand a squeeze before unfortunately letting go to drive safely.
——
Cady hops out first once she parks, going around to Janis' side and helping her out before spinning her around and untying the blindfold.
Janis blinks a few times, letting her eyes adjust to the light before letting out an excited gasp at what she sees. They have about half an hour before the sun starts to go down, and they're surrounded by neon lights, loud noises, and delicious smells. It's beautiful.
"The fair?!"
"Yeah! Um, I couldn't come up with anything other than the pottery place and Regina said you liked roller coasters." Cady says, almost nervously.
"I do! This is tits, let's go in, come on!" Janis pecks her cheeks a few times excitedly before grabbing her hand and hurrying towards the gates. Cady realizes distantly that she left her jacket in the car. Oh well. It's May now, and it's a warm evening. She'll probably be fine.
Cady buys their entry wristbands, getting the kind that allow them to go on as many rides as they want. She fumbles with hers for a minute before Janis tenderly takes her hand, fastening the paper bracelet around her wrist and pressing a kiss to her palm.
"Thanks, love. Where do you want to go first?" Cady asks, lacing their fingers together and swinging their arms back and forth.
"Can we ride that?" Janis asks, pointing to the single largest coaster present. Cady's never been on a roller coaster before, but how bad could it be?
"Sure," Cady hums, looking up at the massive metal structure. "Let's go."
Janis makes Cady stand by the height measurement sign as a joke, taking a picture as Cady pouts. "I'm not that small," She huffs.
"Baby, you're barely a foot over the height requirement. You're always gonna be my little Peanut," Janis hums, squishing her in a tight hug as they stand in line.
"I like being Peanut, I guess," Cady sighs jokingly. She actually kind of likes being small, it has its uses. Like for cuddles.
Janis chooses the very front seats, wiggling excitedly as they get harnessed in.
Once they reach the top of the first hill, Cady decides she does not like roller coasters as much as she thought she would. This thought continues as they hurtle around the track, going much faster than Cady appreciates. She thinks they go upside down at one point, but by that time her eyes are so tightly shut that she's not totally sure.
"That was tits!" Janis cheers as they finally come to a blessed stop, helping Cady out of the cart.
"Uhhuh," Cady mumbles, trying to stop her hands shaking. Janis turns to look at her once they're a ways away, surprised to find her much more pale than normal and her clear blue eyes wide and frightened.
"Oh, baby," She hums, pulling Cady into a tight hug. "You didn't like it?" Cady shakes her head frantically and buries her face into Janis' chest. "Shh, it's okay. We won't go on any more. You pick what we do next."
"No, this is your date. You get to pick everything," Cady says, calming in Janis' tight embrace.
"I pick we do something you want. You look miserable," Janis says, pulling her back gently to kiss a few freckles.
"Thanks," Cady says sarcastically. "Can we go check out the game thingies?"
"Sure, angel. I bet I'll win you a stuffed animal first," Janis says, taking her hand and leading them towards the stalls.
Cady winds up winning first, her muscle memory from Africa helping her win the dart toss. She picks a sloth with velcro paws, taking it and wrapping the arms around Janis in a little hug. Janis wins the water shooting one, picking a big alpaca shaped thing with yellow fur. Cady takes it excitedly, squeezing it tightly. It's very squishy and soft.
Cady's recovered enough by that point to go on a few tamer rides, so Janis leads them over to something called the Scrambler. It looks sort of like some kind of sea monster, with multicolored carts that spin around and are also orbiting a central structure. She holds Janis' hand as well as the bar holding them in, still nervous from her encounter with the coaster.
But once they get going, Cady loves it. Feeling the wind hitting her face reminds her of being on the Jeeps in Africa, and the motion makes her stomach flip in a way she enjoys this time. Janis is just watching her as they go around, smiling widely as Cady laughs freely the whole time.  Gradually, they come to a stop, Cady cheering "Again! Again!" once they finally come to a complete standstill. Janis obliges, taking her hand to get them back in the short line. The Scrambler is one of her favorites, too.
Janis asks if she'd like to try going on some massive slides, Cady looking up at them curiously. They're about as high up as the roller coasters, but people seem to be moving much more slowly down them, so she agrees to try them at least once. They get in line, Janis grabbing a rug for them to go on together. They start climbing the many, many stairs to the top, both of them puffing slightly by the time they're led over to their slide.
Janis lays their mat down, holding it down for Cady to get on before following after her. She pulls Cady closer to her, pressing her chest against her back and holding her around the waist. Cady holds onto the handles of the mat and the worker gives them a gentle push to get them finally going. Cady giggles the whole way down, which was Janis' goal. They're going so quickly they nearly crash into the wall at the bottom, Cady barely managing to stick her feet out at the last second. The force knocks Janis down flat on her back, Cady following and tipping her head upside down to grin widely at her.
"That was fun!" Cady cheers, standing and holding her hand out to help Janis up.
"Do you want to go again?" Janis asks, knowing the look in her eyes well by this point. Cady nods shyly, Janis just taking her hand and leading them back to the end of the line. She's noticed Cady only seems to have an issue with height and speed at the same time, one or the other is okay.
Once they've gone on everything at least once, they decide to finally get some dinner. As they walk over to the food stalls, Cady tucks her alpaca under one arm and holds out the other to Janis. "Hey, can you hold this for me?"
Janis turns from a few paces ahead, thinking she's talking about the stuffed animal until she looks down. "Your hand?"
"Yeah," Cady nods seriously. Janis takes it with a chuckle.
"You're such a dork, I love you."
"I love you too, but I'm very hungry, let's go," Cady begs, tugging on Janis' hand.
"Okay, okay, slow down," Janis laughs.
Cady really wants to try a funnel cake, so she buys one for them to share while Janis gets a bucket of macaroni and cheese and some fried Oreos.
They feed each other little bites of the mac and cheese, stealing a few kisses every now and again in between. Once that's done, Cady pulls their plate of various fried goodness over and just stares at it. Janis tears off a bit of the funnel cake for her to try, getting her fingers sticky with the powdered sugar.
Cady tries it and her eyes go even wider than they did on the roller coaster. That's delicious. Janis laughs at her reaction, but supposed she should've known. Cady loves sweets.
"That's so good!" Cady squeals, almost shaking as the sugar starts to hit. She immediately tears off another bigger piece.
"It's fried dough and sugar, of course it's good," Janis teases, tearing off a chunk for herself. "Now try one of these."
She hands Cady one of the fried Oreos, Cady taking it and nibbling at it almost nervously. It is also delicious, but almost too sweet for her tastes. She likes the cake better. Janis takes the other one, immediately shoving the whole thing in her mouth.
"Oh, Jesus, I shouldn't have done that," She says once she's swallowed it. "No regrets."
Cady gathers up all the trash once they finish, throwing it in a garbage can nearby before turning to her girlfriend. "You have sugar on your lip, come here."
Janis thinks she's just going to wipe it away, letting out a startled squeak when Cady suddenly pulls her behind a stall, pushing her up against it and kissing her hungrily. Usually Janis is the one initiating this kind of thing, but she's certainly not complaining at Cady taking charge.
They're both panting by the time they break apart, looking more than a little disheveled. Janis had noticed Cady's soft skin was rather cold to the touch, and when they pull back she can see her shivering. "Baby, where's your jacket?" She asks, concerned they lost it somewhere.
"I left it in the car," Cady mutters, leaning into her for warmth. "But if I go get it I won't be able to get back in. I'm fine."
She's clearly not, her teeth are almost chattering. Cady's still not totally used to how cold it can get in Illinois. It's almost totally dark now, and very chilly.
Janis pulls off her jean jacket and wraps it around Cady. She's swimming in it, the oversized fabric practically swallowing her tiny girlfriend. Cady's hands don't even come out the sleeves.
Janis notices Cady's jacket paws moving, she's flapping her hands. That's a stim she only does when she's either very upset or very excited, and judging by the wide, delighted grin splitting her face, it's the latter.
"I love you," Cady suddenly hums, throwing her arms around Janis tightly.
"I love you too, baby. So much," Janis says, squeezing her back and kissing her hair softly. "They're gonna close soon, is there one more thing you want to do before we go?"
"The ferris wheel? I've never been on one," Cady hums, resting her chin on Janis' chest and looking up at her.
Janis really does not like ferris wheels, but she can't resist those big blue eyes blinking up at her. She supposes she can make an exception.
"Fine, but if we get stuck up there you have to cuddle me the whole time, I'm scared of heights," She says, taking her hand and leading them towards the large circle illuminated by colorful lights. It is rather pretty, from the ground anyway.
They get in line just before the cutoff for the night, Cady staring up at the massive structure with wide, curious eyes. Janis is strangely comforted seeing that almost childlike wonder on her face. Cady deserves to experience it at least once, even if she does have to spend it holding Janis the whole time so she doesn't panic.
Janis is further comforted when their cart is purple, which is her favorite color. Unfortunately, any semblance of safe feelings leave the second they start moving, Janis clinging to Cady's arm.
"How did you enjoy that roller coaster and the slides if you're so scared of heights, Jellybean?" Cady asks, holding onto her girlfriend tightly.
"Because the height doesn't last on stuff like that, you're just up there to get going and then it's done," Janis huffs. Cady gets distracted once they hit the very top, gasping excitedly at the view and reaching for her phone to take a picture.
She snaps a few before turning it around to selfie mode, leaning in to cup Janis' cheek with her other hand and kiss her gently as she takes another few photos like that. "Thanks for letting me come up here, Jay. We only have to go around one more time before we can get off."
"It's okay, baby. It's actually really pretty up here. As long as you don't look down," Janis hums, leaning in for one more peck. She breathes a sigh of relief as they approach the ground and gives another sharp exhale as they go up again.
Sure enough, once they reach the tip-top, the ride screeches to a halt, and a voice calls up from the bottom to tell them they're stuck up there indefinitely.
"Ah, fuck," Janis groans. This was exactly what she didn't want to happen.
"Oh no," Cady says, concerned for Janis. "Um... we could play a game? To pass the time?"
That doesn't sound terrible, but they don't have anything to play a game with up here.
"Like what?" Janis asks, trying to keep the tremble from her voice. Focus on Cady.
"Um... we could go back and forth and say something about ourselves that the other one doesn't know yet?" Cady hums anxiously, holding Janis tightly.
That doesn't exactly sound like a game, but it would work well enough to keep Janis' mind off the fact that she's dangling  thirty-odd feet in the air in a heavy cart.
"You go first," Janis says, tucking her face into Cady's neck.
"Okay," Cady chuckles, kissing her head and running her fingers through Janis' hair gently. "Um... Od uoy wonk I nac klat sdrawkcab?"
"What the fuck?" Janis says, pulling back to look at Cady's smug grin.
"I can talk backwards. Any word," Cady says.
"Wh- How do you do that?" Janis asks in awe.
"I dunno. When I was learning how to read I taught myself to do it backwards too. Don't ask, I was an odd kid. I just picture the word in my head and then flip it around," Cady answers.
"Prove it," Janis challenges. "Say... um... what's my name backwards?"
"Sinaj," Cady says immediately.
"I love you."
"I evol uoy."
"Peanut butter."
"Tunaep rettub."
"That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard, that's so cool," Janis squeals.
"Thanks," Cady giggles. "Your turn."
"Oh boy, um... did you know about these?" Janis asks, pulling her two half-heart necklaces from where they're tucked inside her shirt.
"I've seen them but I've never read what they say," Cady says, taking them gingerly to read the charms. One says 'big sis' and the other has been painted to say half of what she can only assume is 'best fucking bitches'. "Who has the other pieces? Julie?"
"No, Damian," Janis answers, which makes Cady burst out laughing.
"That's so cute," She says breathlessly once she's calmed down. "My turn then, um. Do you know how I got my name? Or the spelling of it, anyway.
Janis shakes her head. She loves her Cady with a C and a D and a Y, but it is a little strange.
"This is just what my mom told me so it could be a joke, she likes to mess with me a lot. But she got to name my brother so she let my dad name me, and he was in a band when she was pregnant with me. He wanted to give me a sort of musical name like Harmony or something, so he picked Cadence and my mom said yes as long as it could be Cady on my birth certificate. She thought he'd regret it eventually and wanted me to have a more 'normal' nickname," She says.
Janis tries to imagine Mr. Heron, the dorkiest, kindest, shyest man she knows in a band. Does not compute. "That... kind of makes sense, actually, other than your dad being in a band. Did they ever call you Cadence?"
"Actually, yeah, when I was really little my dad always called me that. And when I got in trouble back in Kenya that's what they called me," Cady says, looking as if the secret to the universe has been revealed to her. The story must be true, then.
"That's wild as hell, Chip Heron in a band," Janis says, also looking a little shell-shocked. They'd have to ask him about it later. "My turn. Did you know Gretchen comes to the gym with me sometimes?"
"No, really? That's so sweet," Cady coos.
"Yeah, she asked me a while ago if she could come with me every once in a while to help her anxiety and stuff. She does more cardio and things like that than I do, but we spot each other when we need to and I started going to a yoga thing she does. It's kind of nice to have a workout buddy."
"Aww," Cady says. "I'm glad you guys are becoming friends again."
"Honestly, I am too. Gretchen really isn't so bad. She gushes about Karen all the time too, so I like getting to hear all the juicy stuff about them," Janis chuckles. "Your turn, Peanut."
"I can't think of anything," Cady whines after thinking for a second. "You think of something you want to know about me."
"Okay, I can do that," Janis hums pensively. "Were you born in Kenya?" She asks after a while. Cady's never mentioned anything before her life in Africa.
"No, we didn't move there until I was three, I was born in Oregon. We've always followed my parents' work," Cady answers. "My parents always said it was very exciting having a toddler who wouldn't talk to anyone running around the tents."
"You must've been so cute," Janis says, wondering if she can con Cady into showing her some baby photos.
"I was," Cady answers as Janis makes the mistake of peeking over the edge, snapping back over with wide, terrified eyes. "Oh, darling, why would you look down? Come here."
Janis thinks she's about to pull her into another hug, surprised when Cady pulls her mouth to hers and kisses her softly. Desperate to forget that they're stuck very high in the air, Janis kisses her back eagerly, her girlfriend responding in kind. Janis has always wanted to make out with someone on a ferris wheel.
One of Cady's hands cradles Janis' jaw, thumb stroking comfortingly over her cheek, and her other arm is wrapped securely around Janis' waist to hold her close and safe. Janis flicks her tongue at the seam of Cady's lips, tangling a hand in her auburn curls as she does. Cady lets her in, nipping softly at her bottom lip to tease. Janis would very much like to continue this when they're on the ground.
She's so lost in her girlfriend she almost managed to forget they were still stuck, until there's a deafening clank and a terrifying sort of metallic grinding sound. She pulls back with a startled squeak as they start moving, lipstick noticeably smeared as she buries her face in her girlfriends shoulder. At least they're almost out.
There's a sort of off-brand Snoopy down by the exit, Janis sinking into a hug with him and just repeating, "Snoopy it was so bad. We were stuck up there, Snoopy." For a while until Cady drags her away. Snoopy waves at them almost sadly as he watches them go.
——-
Once they're in the car on the way back to Cady's house, Janis realizes that Cady told her one more fact than Janis told her. She knows Cady likes things to be even, so she decides to level it out.
"Hey, we stopped the game before we told the same number, do you want to hear one more from me?"
"I always want to know more about you, Jayjay," Cady answers, focusing on the road.
"Okay, have you seen this?" Janis asks once they're at a stoplight, shuffling her left sleeve down to reveal her small semicolon tattoo on her wrist.
"No," Cady says, tracing the little picture tenderly with her finger. "What does it mean?"
Janis rolls her sleeve down further to reveal the faded scars lining her arm, wincing a little at Cady's sad gasp. Janis thought she at least knew about those, but she doesn't wear short sleeves very often and the scars are very faded.
"I started self-harming after everything happened with Regina in middle school. Damian didn't tell you, but I was actually pulled out for the rest of that year because I was recovering in the hospital from a suicide attempt. I tried to overdose on one of my mom's prescriptions," Janis explains.
"Oh god, Janis," Cady says sadly, gently running her finger over her arm before she has to start driving again.
"I got my stomach pumped in the hospital and my wrists stitched up, so my mom found out I had been cutting and I had to go to an inpatient therapy place. That's how I started art therapy, actually. But once I got out my mom let me pick something cool to do to celebrate, and for some reason she let me get a tattoo even though I was fourteen. She has one that matches."
"That's so sweet," Cady says, heart still hurting for her girlfriend. She came so close to losing Janis before she ever even found her. "Why a semicolon, though?"
"Because I was an English nerd," Janis answers with a sardonic chuckle. "Semicolons and periods are usually interchangeable, an author uses one when they could have ended a sentence but chose not to. I decided I was the author of me, and I wasn't ready to end my sentence yet. It helps to look at it when I'm having a rough time."
"That's beautiful, Janis. Do you, um, still...?" Cady asks quietly.
"No, no," Janis rushes out. "Damian and my sister both made me promise to stop. I've come close a couple times, but I've been clean since the end of sophomore year. I haven't even thought about it in almost a year."
"Good," Cady breathes with relief. "I'm really glad you're still here, Jay. I love you so much."
"I'm glad I'm here too. I think a lot about what I would've missed if... if it had worked, and I'm always so glad it didn't. I love you too, Caddy," Janis says, trying not to cry. Too many emotions for one night.
They spend the rest of the drive home in comfortable silence, Janis playing with Cady's fingers contently once Cady gives her her hand as they get into slower streets of the neighborhood.
Cady goes to greet her parents and hug them goodnight once they enter, Janis heading up to Cady's room to get changed into her pjs. She's glad their parents all trust them enough to let them continue to sleep in the same bed at sleepovers, probably because they only get up to anything raunchy when they're sure nobody's around. She would miss the snuggles if they were separated.
Cady changes into her Lion King pajama set, putting Janis' jacket back on over top and crawling into bed after her with her new alpaca. She switches on the nightlight Janis had gotten her for Christmas, looking up at the colorful swirly patterns it paints on the ceiling.
"You gonna sleep in my jacket?" Janis asks, resting her head on Cady's chest gently.
"Mmhmm! It's comfy. Soft. And it smells like you," Cady hums, pulling her closer.
"What do I smell like?" Janis asks, a little worried.
"Vanilla and paint, but your hair smells like apples," Cady answers drowsily, stroking her fingers through Janis' hair. "Mostly you just smell like home. I know I'm safe whenever I can smell you."
Well that's just about the sweetest thing Janis has ever heard. "You're so precious, you know that?" She asks, tilting her head up to kiss at the underside of Cady's jaw.
"So you tell me," Cady jokes weakly, followed by a yawn. "It's your turn to be little spoon, I'm sleepy."
Janis is frankly amazed that Cady made it this late, it's nearly midnight. She leans up to kiss her goodnight before she turns to face the wall, cuddling with her own new sloth stuffie and feeling her small girlfriend press up against her, squishing her cheek against her back and wrapping an arm tightly around her waist to pull her closer.
"G'night, Jay. I love you," Cady yawns.
"Goodnight, Caddy. I love you too," Janis answers, grinning to herself.
A perfect date with my perfect girl, she thinks as they slowly drift off to sleep, dreaming of each other.

Dream Boy Lover
June 12, 1985
The dead heat of Hawkins summer is almost in full swing, but in the damp cement back room at Hawkins Community Pool, it’s freezing.
Waiting out the time before her next turn in the chair is Heather Holloway, laying down on the wooden bench, one leg hanging lazily over the side. She’s got a pair of sweats on over her bathing suit and a throw blanket that was supposed to be on the back of her mother’s expensive couch wrapped around her shoulders.
With her on the same bench is Billy Hargrove, laying on his back like her, their heads touching so that curly pieces of their sprayed hair get tangled together. He’s got his ankles crossed one over the other, wearing his lifeguard hoodie and a pair of boots, but the tips of his nose and fingers are still ice cold. Even out of the sun, lounging around on break, he’s got a pair of aviators propped up on his nose.
They don’t have to be back out in their chairs for another hour or two, something about the manager's nieces coming in and taking over everyone’s shifts, so they’re just killing time.
Heather’s got a gossip magazine that’s a bit too immature for her, the kind aimed at middle schoolers rather than a couple of fresh out of high school adults, and she’s reading out loud anything she finds interesting. Billy’s got a bag of skittles he got from the vending machine on his chest, and occasionally, when he doesn’t have a cigarette hanging from the corner of his lips, he drops a few into his own or Heather's mouths. She’d suggested the skittles, he likes M&Ms better.
After a few minutes of silent page turning, Billy feels himself start drifting off to sleep, it’s too cold and he didn’t sleep last night and he’s bored, but Heather startles him awake with an exclamation of, “Oh! Listen to this.”
She clears her throat and reads in a smug, over enthusiastic voice. “How to tell if your crush likes you back.”
Billy groans, he knows the teasing that’s about to come will be insufferable. Ever since Heather got herself a relationship, she’d been trying to get him to follow suit, and she’d weaseled it out of him with hardly any effort that he’d already been gunning it for someone.
Pretty much every day he had to get at least one reminder that he was a coward and a wimp for not making a move, her obsession with his romantic life just that intense, but he’s usually a good sport about it. Like now, as he listens to her read out of a magazine too lame for even his little sister, not interrupting her once as she reads off the list.
Well, at least until she strays from what is actually printed on its glossy pages. “Number one. Does he or she talk to you everyday?” She waited for barely a second before reprimanding him. “Come on William, I’m expecting answers here.”
Sighing through his nose, he plays along. “Whatever. Sure.”
“Okay. Number two. Does he or she tell you all of his or her deepest secrets?”
“Deepest? Dunno about that.” That answer isn’t good enough for Heather, who waits impatiently for him to give her a better one. “Alright, fine. Yes.”
The smile on her face is almost audible through the excitement in her voice. “Number three. Did he or she give you his or her phone number like, the third time you ever talked to each other?”
“That’s not in the magazine, Hetty.”
“Um, it totally is.” She says it like she means it, but there’s a little hint of humor in her tone almost giving her away.
Because she’s so relentless, Billy admits, “It was the fifth time.”
“Number four.” The pause between her words as she thinks of something to taunt Billy with is enough that he knows something ridiculous is about to come out of her mouth. “Does he take you out to the quarry, a place we all know is the cooler older brother of Lover’s Lake, in the middle of the night ‘just to hang out’?”
“That’s it, I’m cutting you off.” He announces, reaching behind his head and snatching the magazine from her hands, flipping it around so he can read it. “My turn.”
“Oh no.” She says with a giggle.
There’s the sound of laminated pages flipping until, Billy says, “Ooh, this one sounds good.” in a tone matching the one Heather used when she started reading.
“How to know if your relationship is going to last.” He gasps for dramatic effect, and Heather can’t stifle a giggle while she waits for the rest of the question, “Do you call each other a thousand times a day and whisper sweet nothings over the phone?”
Even though he can’t see her face, she rolls her eyes. “Duh.”
“Did you pine helplessly after each other for literally three years just to kiss on the first date?”
“Yeah and it was awesome.” They both laugh at that one, her obviously overdone response enough to break the false seriousness they had going.
It’s also a challenge for Billy to do it again.
“Do you stay over at her house every night just so you can wake up together in domestic bliss? Does she pack your work bag for you every morning like you’ve been married for years, and make you your lunch in a little brown bag and kiss you on the forehead on your way out the door and-“
“Alright, alright. I get it.” Billy’s point having been proved, she takes her magazine back and sets It aside with the rest of her stuff. “You’re just jealous because you won’t shoot your shot with Steve.”
“Am not.” He scoffs, trying not to let the little bit of offense he felt at that show. “Have the situation perfectly under control.”
“Sure. Is that why you spend all of your time sighing wistfully and daydreaming about your one true love?” Her hands are clasped together at her cheek and she lets her voice get higher and dreamier.
“My options are limited.” It’s a lame excuse just to deflect the truth and they both know it.
So she calls him on it, and uncontainable smile accompanying the song-Singh remark. “You didn’t deny it!”
“What?”
“That you’re in love with him!”
“Thought that was obvious. Why the hell else do you think I’m still single?” He motions vaguely to himself. “Just look at me, Hetty. Could have anyone I wanted.”
“Except Steve.” The reminder is mostly meant to be like, a way for her to show him that he should just make his move already because he can have anyone he wants, but, having missed the point entirely, Billy sighs and agrees. “‘Cept Steve.”
“I don’t know though, Rob’s been putting out some feelers, and like, her gaydar is super good.” Her and Robin are probably more involved in this than their idiot best friends by this point, it seemed to be all they ever talked about anymore. “She’ll be able to tell you if he’s on the market.”
“I don’t need a lesbians dating advice, thank you.” Billy chuffs. “Pretty sure I can figure it out on my own.”
“Oh.” In a show of feigned nonchalance, she holds her hands above her face so she can examine her painted nails as she says, “So I guess you already knew that his freshman year, Steve dated Tommy Hagan for an entire month.”
The rest of their skittles were sent scattering all over the stained up concrete floor as Billy sat up quickly, his boots swinging to the floor and blood rushing to his head fast enough to knock him silly. “What?”
“See. You had no idea.” Sitting herself up much more gracefully, Heather turns so she’s facing Billy with her legs crossed. “For months you’ve been moping over your straight dream boy, and he’s been bi the whole time.”
“No way.” Stupidly baffled is the only way to describe the look on Billy’s face.
“Yes way.” She nods smugly. “He said so himself.”
This was something she thought was completely obvious at this point, so she can’t help but say, “Seriously, William, when were you going to open your eyes? Someone who doesn’t like you isn’t going to let you crash at their place and tenderly bandage your wounds.”
“S’not tender.” It’s such a confident comeback, Heather could almost believe it.
Almost, but she’d heard all the stories about how Billy’s dad would rough him up, kick him out with a nasty split in his lip or bruises all over, and he’d drive all helpless to his savior Steve Harrington’s house to get patched up. Not tender her hind end.
“Well, I guess it doesn’t matter, because I also seem to remember him driving an hour into the city to pick you up when your car broke down, sooo…..” Billy wouldn’t win this one, she had just about a million other courting attempts from poor Steve on stand by.
“It wasn’t like that, H.” His gaze fixes to the floor, to a green skittle melting over in the corner, as he mumbles, “We’re not even friends.”
“What about when he saved you a seat on the basketball bus?” The nerve of him to come running back to her with all of his romantic troubles and woes, and still deflect like this. She almost couldn’t bear it. “Or literally like, a week ago when he hand delivered a bunch of super thoughtful birthday gifts to you?”
“I don’t know what you want me to say!” His hands are thrown up in exasperation, though Heather would argue he doesn’t have the right be upset when he’s the one doing all this to himself. “He’s just too nice for his own good.”
“Please lord give me the strength to deal with this boy.” She turns her eyes to the wooden ceiling, joining her hands together in a false prayer. Sighing through her nose, she turns her attention back to Billy, who’s trying to hide his smugness with how frustrated he’s making her. “William. I know you think you screwed that friendship over forever, but I promise you, if Steve didn’t forgive you, he wouldn’t let you in his house, let alone do all this other stuff for you.”
“Dunno Het, kind of hard to forgive someone who doesn’t apologize.” She could ring his neck for how casually he says it.
“What! You mean you didn’t say you were sorry yet?” Rolling up the discarded magazine, she smacks him on the back of the head with it. “William that was like, seven months ago!”
The strain in his voice tells her they’re on the same level of annoyance. “What am I supposed to do! Tell him I’m sorry I almost killed him with my bare hands, and he’ll just forget about me being an evil bastard so we can live happily ever after like you and Robin?”
She hits him again. “One, you are over exaggerating by a long shot buster, and two, you need to quit projecting your crap onto that boy before someone else comes along and swoops him up.”
“What does that even mean?”
“It means that you’re an idiot William Hargrove.” Another whack with the magazine as she tries to explain the situation, something that makes perfect sense to someone who isn’t emotionally constipated, to Billy who is, well, extremely emotionally constipated. “Steve is trying to move on. He flirts with you like, every day and he was willing to be civil without an apology. That doesn’t mean you ‘aren’t even friends’”
“It means that you,” Her cherry red fingernail presses into the material of his hoodie, “you are the one that needs to forgive yourself.”
“You think so?” There’s a sort of disbelief in his voice, but it’s not like he’s doubting himself so much as he’s mocking Heather for thinking it’s so easy.
And that, well, she’s used to it. They’ve been friends since early December, so she didn’t let him being a big jerk put her off after so long dealing with him acting like this. “Yes I do, as a matter of fact.”
“Think you’re giving me too much credit then, sweetheart.”
“You are so difficult.” She felt like a tired mother scolding a child. “Now you listen up and you listen tight. I don’t want this self-deprecating garbage keeping you from what you deserve, you hear me? This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I’m telling you, you have got to take it.”
“Steve does not care one little bit what you think of yourself. He likes the real you. Not who you think you should be, not who you think he deserves. He wants you.” Maybe she’s being dramatic, who knows, but Billy keeping his mouth shut means she’s probably on the right track. “And I guarantee you, you will never forgive yourself if you let that boy go.”
Sure, she’s up on her high horse there, talking down to Billy like he’s completely incompetent, but she’s been in the same boat. From experience she knew Billy’s heart would never recover if he lost Steve to someone else. It was in part for her sake so she wouldn’t have to hear about it, but mostly for her best friend, who already had so much other stuff on his plate to deal with that she wanted to make sure that didn’t happen.
“Don’t be so dramatic Het.” Is what he comes up with, but he’s biting the corner of his nail, something he only does when he’s thinking hard about something. It doesn’t take very long for him to break. “Promise you’re not just hyping me up?”
“You know me better than that. I don’t have a dishonest bone in my body.” With her hand on her heart she promises, “I wouldn’t say any of that stuff if I didn’t mean it.”
“Yeah, whatever.” He waves her off, but he looks sort of queasy, won’t hold eye contact with her for more than a second. “I’ll think about it.”
“You better.” Leaning over across the bench Heather wraps him in the best hug she can in the awkward position. “You know you’re my best friend in the whole wide world, right?” He lets out a breathy laugh against her hair, “I know, I know.”
It’s for Billy’s sake that she lets him drop it. Were it up to her entirely, she’d want him to make his decision now, she’s tired of watching him be too scared to make decisions for himself, but really, they’ve been at it for half a year, what’s a few more days to get the ball rolling?
So she listens with her full attention, keeping her arm around his waist to never fully break off the hug, as he shifts the conversation to more casual topics, like his failed attempts at trying to teach his little sister how to drive, how his new tattoo is taking way too long to heal, and how he’s triple booked for swim lessons tomorrow morning.
When after so long Adams' voice cuts over the speakers calling for the next ten minute pool check, their break is officially over.
The manager pops his head in to tell them they need one of them to switch out, and Billy, after sitting in one place for so long, stands up and stretches his limbs before he offers himself up, “You stay here in the cool, princess. I’ll keep watch over your loyal subjects.”
It’s obvious he just wants some time to himself, so, where she normally would’ve come back with something silly about how the pool goers respected his abs more than his authority, she instead gives him something to think about during his solitude.
She waits until he’s kicking his boots off and shoving them under the bench to say, “You know, maybe it’s fate that the both of you, absolute hunks that you are, have stayed single this whole summer. You’re probably like, destined to be together.”
“Keep dreaming Holloway.” He says, snatching up his whistle and his smokes from the pile with the rest of his stuff.
All smugly nonchalant she replies, “I’m leaving that up to you, lover boy.”
Billy just laughs as the metal door swings shut behind him, but he admittedly goes on to do exactly that, dreaming of his pretty boy up in the lifeguard chair.
Realizing it might be a hazard to public safety to ignore his responsibilities to drool over Steve Harrington while he’s on duty, he blows his whistle at a kid holding another one under the water, and tries to let the noisy pool distract him.
Heather’s right, this is getting to be ridiculous.

It's late and my brain is fried, but I'm thinking about Dalinar and his arc in Rhythm of War. I should say, I read through RoW when it came out over the course of a few days, and my memory's shitty, so I'm probably forgetting stuff lmao.
Basically, I think Dalinar's chapters in Rhythm of War were kind of... passive, if that makes sense. A lot of it is him acting as an observer of other's actions. Jasnah and Wit fight asshole highprince. Renarin shows off his powers. Ishar shows off *his* powers. Rayse is fucked up (what was up with that, actually?) and negotiates a contract... which was written up by Wit.
Of course, it makes sense. Dalinar was the focus character last book, and there's a whole ton going on in RoW, not everyone can have equal screen time. But... I feel like we don't see enough of the impact Oathbringer had. The climax of Oathbringer is Dalinar swearing to be a better person, to unite people, to take responsibility for what he had done. So, what does that look like? How is he facing the consequences of killing his wife, for his alcoholism, for his years of bloodshed and conquest and imperialism? Those are big, fucking complicated questions with no easy answer, and, yeah, admitting what you did is the first step, but what's the next one? There's a whole ass apocalypse going on, but... what happens after that? Dalinar knows they can't go back to the status quo, both logistically and *morally* speaking, right? We get beats of Adolin saying he can't forgive his father for what he did, and of the Mink pointing out Dalinar and Alethkar's war crimes, but that can't be all we get, right?
Now, let's talk next book. i can't remember the exact quote, but I seem to recall Dalinar thinking about how, huh, maybe one dude *shouldnt* be in charge of everything, and maybe people having representation in government is a good thing? But then he tells Odium oh yeah I'm obviously going to nominate myself as humanity's champion, duh. It's dissonant enough that it feels intentional, that it's going to backfire in the next book. And speaking of which, I checked the Coppermind to find Dalinar's oaths, and apparently book 5 was originally drafted as Dalinar's, so there are going to be some big scenes with him. So, fingers crossed?
(Now it's a shitty, complicated situation that doesn't have any obvious good solutions, but I do hope Stormlight ends on a happy (and satisfying) note for lighteyes and darkeyes, humans and singers, radiant and fused, and spren and mortals. Though to be honest... that's probably unrealistic.)
(Again, also my memory is shit and I basically binge read RoW in a few days so if there's something I'm missing please let me know!)

Supernatural s3
It’s so unfair that the season that has Ruby AND Bela is so short :(((. I was done with it waaaay too quickly, and now I’m speed running through s4 xD (which, like the first time around, is Strong Mixed Feelings territory).
-My girl Ruby!!!! I was so happy to have her back, I kept grinning like a loon every time she was on screen. It’s quite interesting watching the 1.0 and 2.0 versions so close to each other, instead of as they air. I have... Thoughts, on whether Ruby as a double agent was something planned or that they decided as they went, but that’s for the s4 post. s3!Ruby really doesn’t come across as one (“I don’t believe in the devil” oh I wish sometimes xD, I love my nonbelievers), imo, but the beauty of such a device is that you can rationalize anything she does as devious if you want to xD
And it goes without saying that I love her interactions with Sam. THIS SHIP ISTG. I love how immediately ~attuned to her he is lol, his present and instinctive concern for her even if he tries to mask his interest as “practical”. And all the repeated times Sam’s conflicted between her and Dean -like when he deviates Dean shot (wasting one of the Colt’s bullets lmfao) or during the argument about the virgin sacrifice xD. And the “that’s my boy”/ “little fallen angel on your shoulder” quotes!!! Ruby 1.0 deserved to be railed by Sam too, smh.
My favourite episode of hers is “Jus in Bello” (which would be my fave of the season just by virtue of having both Bela and Ruby in the same episode lol. Not interacting, of course, the world as we know it wouldn’t have survived). I just love that she gets that final moment of I TOLD YOU SO to the brothers xD. I really like how she expands on the demonic lore of the show- I love, LOVE the detail about how all demons used to be humans, how they’re souls corrupted in hell. And that in her past life she was a witch (there was this really good fic in Spanish fandom about it... I need to hunt it down).
BTW, though I think her interactions with Dean in that episode are interesting, it really hammers home how much I hate him sometimes xD. Can you stop saying misogynistic slurs for TWO GODDAMN MINUTES, DEAN (and as we know from as early as this season, only HE can have demon/monster friends!! What a fucking hypocrite xD). I freaking love the moment in the finale when she viciously yells him about how she wishes she could see him in hell lmao (and how it foreshadows that when she shows sympathy later, it’s actually Lilith in disguise lmfao). I hate Dean gets the last word in their dynamic, tbqh. Until the s15 cameo, at least xDD
One thing that’s been bothering me xD: the French fries. Demons are vulnerable to salt, like other spirits, right? (and hey, look what a nice piece of foreshadowing that was). How does that translate to food lol. Because Ruby adores French fries, and they obviously contain salt. It’s like spicy food for humans? Or like pineapple? Inquiring minds etc. xD
-I still cannot believe Bela Talbot was only on the show for six episodes lmao. Her presence still lingers in the watchers’ heads so much?? Which is understandable because she’s Lead Girl Material if there was ever any lol. The care with which they styled her even?? You don’t do that for just any character lmao (I mean, just look at most of SPN’s female characters for comparison xD).
Her ship with Dean could’ve really been something, too -even if I hate Dean in it, I can’t deny it packs a punch, narrative-wise. I mean, the Batcat undertones alone!! The fake married undercover shenanigans!! And I think it’s really interesting that she’s such a blind spot for him; Dean’s unusually intuitive about people, but with Bela he takes everything at face value and she can fool him like no other (while, OTOH, is Sam who questions her facade and wants to see more). If he hadn’t been such an idiot (and such an asshole) he could’ve had a really powerful ship. Sucks to be him lol.
Anyway. Man, I love her. So much. I love how Gordon’s threats to kill her don’t work on her, and I love that the show basically said “Bela killing her abusive parents is good, actually” (I’m so tired of forgiveness narratives, you guys. This entire show is founded on revenge, so let me get my revenge fantasies in peace!!) xDD. And I love, LOVE that she withheld that truth from Dean, that she decided he wasn’t worth it. OTOH, you know, fuck the fans that got her written out, definitely; but on the other, I do love how her story ended (and that it was a clear "fuck you" to shitty fans). Doesn’t stop me for wanting to read and re-read (and maybe write!) even more “Bela escapes hell” fix-its, but still.
Also, very important question: what happened to her cat?? It’s the cat alright?? I’m going to headcanon that she left them with that cougar friend of hers lol.
-So. THE DEAL. Okay. Oof. I love this storyline, a lot. A loooot. I love the conflict it creates between the brothers (as long as there’s still conflict and Sam hasn’t yet started taking everything lying down I can enjoy that part of their narrative lol). I love Dean’s initial forced giddiness about “making the most out of his last year” and I love the moment Dean decides he does want to try to live because it makes the last few episodes all the most desperate and cruel (and hey, I’ve heard he only went to hell because the season was cut short due to a writers’ strike... if that’s true that’s so funny lmao).
My absolutely favourite part however? That you can FEEL Dean’s unvoiced resentment towards Sam. For Dean having to die for him, even if Sam never asked him to. He lashes out to Sam repeatedly through the season, but it really came to ahead in the dreamspace episode, where Dean confronts another version of himself that talks about how Sam was “dotted on” (the revisionism asldfkaf). This show is absolutely ruthless when it comes to showing you its characters’ ugly, unfair reactions to things and it’s my favourite thing evah.
Speaking of the dreamspace episode, OMFG. I loved both brothers there. Dean’s hallucination, seeing himself as a demon? And how he let out his anger about John?? Beautiful, truly (regarding John, I also loved their different reactions when it looked like his spirit had contacted them: Dean jumping on it and Sam detached skepticism). But my favourite part has to be when Sam uses the villain’s abusive father against him. Like. Damn. That was cold-blooded o.0
The second-to-last episode, when Sam tracked down that Frankenstein doctor to try and make Dean immortal was ABSOLUTELY HORRIFYING OMG. I loved that. I love that Sam wanted to use it for both them. It was some scary shit. I also love the scene where the crossroads demon questions whether Sam really wants to break the deal, I’m gathering it’s going to be nice foreshadowing later on in the show lol.
Anyway. I also found Dean’s death scene more impactful than Sam’s. Partially because of the horror of it, but mostly because I think at this type of scenes, Padalecki is better. Sam’s grief felt more real, Dean’s got me out of the scene (it’s the voice, I think. Sometimes Ackles’ voice takes me out of scenes, it sounds... forced).
I also really enjoyed how the time loop episode wrapped around this subplot. It managed to be both heartbreaking and mind-numbly hilarious lmfao. Like?? All the deaths?? Were so pathetic?? I tip my hat to Ackles because I don’t think most actors could carry plots like this half as well lmfao.
Sidenote, it’s always a trip to see The Trickster God knowing that fucker is Gabriel. Archangel “hey Mary do you accept God knocking you up” Gabriel. Which I guess isn’t exactly a thing in this show?? Since according to the wikia SPN Jesus was “just a man” (and let me tell you, I’m tickled pink by the fact that out of ALL mythological figures, specifically all CHRISTIAN mythological figures, the show decided to go “nah” on Jesus Christ. I mean, I guess he’d take away from Dean’s, Sam’s and Castiel’s resurrection narratives, but still. It’s so funny!!).
-Gordon Walker remains a superbly acted and fascinating character with extra racist nonsense alsdkfjasdf. But I can’t deny I loved seeing him as a vampire. He was terrifying. And I’m definitely shipping him with Kubrick, ouch xD
-The Ghostfacers episode is... something. As in, incredibly exploitative and homophobic and with an egregious case of BYG (and the first where I’d say it’s incontestable to claim the trope was used. s1 and s2 are muddy territory given the circumstances, IMO, but this one is 300% BYG), but so successfully manipulative my heart hurt for Corbett and Corbett x Ed still. Fuck them for that ngl. I do still enjoy how anti-Winchesters they all are though xD
-3x01 introduces the one nice marriage of hunters so far, between a black couple. The man dies in a gross, horrifying way within the episode ofc (because he was Mean to the the brothers duh). She makes it out alive, and since she doesn’t reappear in the show she gets to live. So for now black women have a sliiiiiightly better track record in SPN than track guys there: they get to appear in a few more episodes and be more fleshed out (Victor, Gordon), but as long as they’re only in one episode they get to live!! (Cassie, Tamara).
-Rufus and Bobby are exes, right? Right?? Probably still married in some state? You know that post about how when gay marriage was legalized across the USA there were a lot of issues because some couples had split and never bothered to divorce, since it was only legal in one place? That post was made for them. Pity Rufus is a black man, and as such has a limited number of allowed appearances before he’s killed off ¬¬
-I would’ve enjoyed Dean’s moments with Lisa and Ben more (it’s just so RIGHT that in this moment he’d want Ben to be his) if my knowledge of future spoilers didn’t perpetually have me in a state of “pls keep this guy away from kids” lol.
-They had Harmony’s actress (BTVS) and they made her a vampire!! The show’s hard on for the Buffyverse is a bit of a hit and miss but I can’t say I don’t relate xDD.
-I know Jensen Ackles can sing (in fact thanks to youtube I know a few of the actors can... is there a musical episode. Does this show have its own OMWF. I need to know). So why. WHY. Does he sound like that during “Dead or Alive”??? I actually like the scene but he sounds so off-key lmao.
-BTW, I found out that apparently Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohan originally auditioned for each other’s roles añslkdfjasf. I can’t picture it. Ruby 1.0 is Ruby 1.0 and Bela is Bela xD. Although I’ve seen each playing roles that could meld with the other, just. Nope. Good choice on the casting there lol.

Tumblr media
“(Y/N),” Clint mumbles. He shakes my shoulder and I groan. “(Y/N), there’s someone at the door.”
“Hmm?”
“Someone’s knocking,” he mumbles.
Clint rolls over and goes back to sleep. I sit up and glare at him before rubbing my eyes and shoving myself up from the bed. It takes a moment for the knocking sounds to reach my ears and I scrub my hands over my face in frustration. I suddenly find myself wishing I hadn’t taken down my “No Solicitation” sign.
They knock harder and louder and I can’t stop myself from yelling, “Knock it off! You bang any harder, you’re gonna have to marry the fucking door, or some shit.”
The knocking doesn’t die down and I swing the door open only to immediately freeze. Steve stands out in the hallway with Natasha at his side.
“(Y/N),” he says.
“Aw, fuck.”
I slam the door closed and immediately run back to my bedroom. Clint still hasn’t moved and stirs slightly when my wings brush against him as I race past. I grab my bag from the chair in the corner and yank the window open. Clint sits up and blinks against the afternoon light, confused.
“Why’re you climbing out the window?”
“Steve and Nat were at the door.” I flatten my wings against my back, but can’t seem to fit through the window. “Gonna fuckin kill me if they catch me.”
“Why?”
“Slammed the door in their faces.”
Clint covers his face with his hands and flops back down onto the bed with a groan. “This is it. This is the day I die.”
“Not yet.”
I whip around to find Natasha and Steve stepping into the room. I sigh heavily and drop my bag to the floor. Steve folds his arms across his chest and Natasha follows suit.
"I'm surprised Bucky's not here," Natasha continues.
"He got stuck at the tower last night with work. Otherwise, he would be," Clint explains. He pushes himself up onto his elbows and looks directly at her. "What're you doing here, Nat?"
"You weren't home, figured we'd try the one other place you've been known to disappear to." She looks very pointedly at me and I pinch the bridge of my nose. “Why didn’t you tell us you were back?”
“Because I’m not,” I answer. “I’m in town. That’s it.”
“We know you were up near the Compound last week, (Y/N),” Steve says. “Why were you anywhere near there if you’re not back?”
“Bucky took me upstate to stretch my wings. It’s harder to do so unnoticed in the city.”
“Why were you near the compound?”
“What is this with this interrogation?” Steve simply raises his eyebrows, silently telling me to answer the question. I sigh and shake my head. “I got a little off course and didn’t realize where I was until it was too late. I redirected as soon as I saw the first building, but even then I was probably half a mile away, maybe more.”
‘I see.“
“How’d you know it was me anyway?”
“Asked Sam what got picked up on the scanner. He said it was just a big bird,” Steve explains. “But, you’re way too big a blip to just be a big bird.”
“No, she’s a big ass bird,” Clint corrects. “Massive difference.”
“Clint, you’re not helping,” I say. I perch on the bed beside him and he reaches out and places his hand on my knee. “Still doesn’t explain why you decided to make the trip out here to see us.”
“We just wanted to see you for ourselves, (Y/N),” Natasha says. “It’s been two years. You can hardly blame us for needing to double check.”
“Could’ve just asked.”
“You say that like you would’ve actually answered.”
“You wouldn’t have to ask me. Clint and Bucky are more than capable of giving you the information.” I press my lips together. “This is exactly why I didn’t tell anyone I was coming back.”
“Then why did you come back?” Natasha asks.
“Because I missed my idiots.”
“Aw,” Clint squeezes my knee. “You’re so nice, (Y/N).”
“Nah, I’m an asshole. Everyone knows it.”
“Mm, yeah, but we’ve always hoped for better from you,” he says, dumb smile on his face.
I snort. Everyone’s head turns when the door opens and shuts. Keys clatter against the kitchen counter and I sigh in relief.
“(Y/N)? You here?”
“In the bedroom!” I call back.
Bucky wanders into the room, yanking his sweatshirt over his head. Clint laughs when he nearly crashes into Steve. He just barely misses, but looks around in confusion when he can finally see again.
“The hell is this?” he asks, gesturing between Steve and Natasha.
“She couldn’t get through the window fast enough,” Clint explains.
“Clint, that’s even more confusing,” Bucky says.
Clint gestures with a flourish. “I live to serve.”
Bucky shakes his head and skirts around Steve and Natasha before crawling onto the bed and sprawling out between Clint and I. I squawk at him about having his shoes on my duvet and he kicks them off onto the floor. He shuffles up the bed and props his chin up on my calf. I comb my fingers through his hair and he sighs and melts into the mattress.
“We’re fine here, guys,” Clint says. “(Y/N) is working on her own deal, and Bucky and I are still obviously engaged with the team. Our priorities haven’t changed.”
“Are you sure?” Natasha asks.
“Nat, we spent two years looking for her and now we’re coming home to her at the end of the day. So, yeah,” he glances over at me and smiles. “I’m sure.”
“Fine.” She grabs Steve’s arm and steers him out of the room. “We’ll see you bright and early on Monday, then.”
Bucky and Clint wave to them as they leave and, only when the door closes for the final time, do we allow ourselves to fully relax. I coax Bucky onto his side and shimmy down the bed to lie beside him. He wraps his arms around me and keeps his metal arm held tight to my body while stroking one of my wings with the other to avoid pinching.
“So it seems like you guys’ve had an eventful day,” Bucky mumbles against my shoulder.
“(Y/N) slammed the door in their faces,” Clint says.
“Oh shit, really?”
“Yeah. Then she tried to climb out the window to get away, but her wings are too big and she can’t get through this one.”
“No, my wings are fine,” I correct. “The window’s too small.”
“Ah, ” Bucky hums. “Blaming windows, now, are we?”
I flick his ear and he laughs. “I am not blaming windows.”
“Then what are you blaming?”
“Myself for not finding a bigger window.”
“Oh, duh, obviously.”
I shake my head and press a little closer to his chest and reach out for Clint with one hand. Clint takes it and laces our fingers together. Clint curls himself around Bucky’s back and asks him about his day. Bucky complains about being stuck at the Tower the entire day yesterday, forced to sit in an hours long conference with General Ross, debating the viability and sustainability of the proposed Sokovia Accords. Steve, Bucky, Tony, and Rhodey had entered the call having read everything in the packets they’d been provided multiple times and had essentially been talked at and over the entire time they were in the conference. By the end of it, even Tony was starting to lose his cool, and he’d gone into the call most willing to comply with the Accords.
“So Ross acted like he wasn’t talking to a handful of the world's most dangerous people?” I ask.
“I could pop that guys head like a pimple, and he acted like I was a dumb little three year old,” Bucky says. “Steve was able to stay calm enough to get in contact with a few other people who helped draft the Accords and we were allowed to write up our own edits, but we have twenty four hours to do so.”
Clint sighs. “What time did you manage to get to sleep last night?”
“Five in the morning, I think. Can’t really remember. We worked in shifts with the rewrites, so I think Stark and Rhodes are working on it right now. Steve’s gonna have Nat go back through and see if there’s anything she’d add before we throw the damn thing at the General’s fuckin head.”
“I could help, if you want,” I offer. "I've got great aim."
Bucky laughs. "Thanks, but I'm pretty sure that'd get us into more trouble than we're already in."
“Ah, well, maybe next time then.”
Clint snorts. “You two hungry at all?”
“Eh,” Bucky responds. “I could eat. (Y/N)?”
I shrug. "I'll probably want something by the time we finish cooking."
Clint grins at me over Bucky's shoulder. "Great. What's on the menu, guys?"
Tumblr media
Tuesday morning, the door flies open at exactly 10:35. I'm standing in the middle of the kitchen, breakfast in hand, and nearly drop the bowl at the sound of the front door slamming into the wall.
"Hope you're decent, cause I'm coming in anyway!" a familiar voice calls.
I groan and put my breakfast on the counter. “Go home, Tony!”
He appears from the entryway and grins. “That’s no way to treat a guest, (Y/N).”
“I didn’t invite you!”
“I’m happy to see you, too.”
I roll my eyes. “Why are you here?”
He walked through the apartment, looking around, his head tilted to the side. “Heard my favorite winged killing machine was back in town, and I had to see it for myself.” He frowns at my furniture before he looks back at me. “You still live in this dump?”
“It’s not a dump, it’s my home. Clint does a great job of maintaining this place.”
“It’s a run down tenement building.”
“It’s an old ass brick building in the middle of New York City. It’s holding together as best it can. That doesn’t mean it’s a dump.” I lean against the counter and silently beg him to leave. “If you just wanted to see if I was here, you’d buzz by in one of your suits, but that’s not the case. So, why are you actually here?”
“So suspicious.” He tuts and shakes his head. “What do you take me for?”
“Someone who doesn’t have a lot of normal friends.”
“Did you get meaner while you were gone?”
“Tony, you broke into my home. I’m allowed to be a little mean.”
He sighs and his shoulders slump slightly. “Fine, I need someone to talk to, and I know you won’t judge me.”
“Why didn’t you call ahead? I’m assuming Steve and Nat told everyone I’m back.”
“I figured you’d find some way to be out when I showed up.”
“Tony, I have a job and I work from home. This is the only place I’d be.”
“A job?”
“Yes, a job.”
“I’m impressed.”
“Oh, fuck off.”
“Will you at least hear me out?”
“I don’t know, Tony, I’ve got a lot to do today…” He hits me with his puppy-dog look and I cave immediately. “Fine, you can stay. But you have to let me work while you talk.”
“Won’t that distract you?”
“No, I need external stimulus when I work sometimes. Usually that’s music, but I guess you’ll do.”
Tony launches into a long explanation of the issues with the Accords while I set up my work stuff for the day. I interject where I can and he seems surprised when I manage to keep up. I simply finish my breakfast and do the dishes before starting on work for the day. When Tony starts pacing, I turn slightly on the couch so that I can face him. After a bad experience with Bruce a few years back, Tony needs to know that the person he’s talking to is paying attention.
Tony keeps at it for three hours before he stops to ask for a glass of water and starts up again when he’s hydrated. By the end, I’m starting to understand how Bruce could fall asleep while Tony talks.
“Does that make sense?” Tony asks.
“Honestly, I totally get where you’re coming from, but none of that shit in Sokovia was your fault.”
“I don’t know...”
“Tony, you did what you could when it was happening, and even more after the dust settled. There’s no going back to fix that now. But do you honestly think that the Accords are a good idea? I mean, Bucky was talking to Clint and I about them a few days ago and they sound awful. Like literal grade-A bullshit.”
“Really?”
“I don’t know about you, but if I were being attacked on the street, I’d want someone to help me right then and there, not ask their boss for permission first. What if people are in danger and your superiors decide that they’re not a priority?”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh. And on top of that, people like me, people with powers and shit, just minding our own business, could potentially have to sign. If we don’t we could face prison time.” I sigh. “I’m not saying you’re wrong on any account, because it’d be great if the Avengers could get help from government agencies again, but I don’t think this is the right way to do it. Especially when you’re so used to being your own boss.”
“Right, but-”
“Tony, you asked for my opinion. I’m not gonna tell you that I’m one hundred percent right, this is just how I feel. I know that Steve and Bucky are pretty on the fence with the Accords as well.”
“That’s true.”
“I know Ross sent your revisions back, but you have to keep pushing this until they give up on the document, or you get your way. Just… whatever happens, you have to stick to your guns.”
“Right. I need to trust my gut.”
“That’s not what I said.”
The front door opens and Tony and I both look to see who it is.
“(Y/N), we’re back!” Clint calls.
“Oh, so he can come and go as he pleases, but I show up and you’re mad?”
“He has a key, and he’s not breaking down my door. Yes he can come and go as he pleases.”
Clint and Bucky stop short as they enter the living room.
“Didn’t realize you’d have company today,” Bucky says.
“I didn’t realize I’d have company today,” I shoot back. “He invited himself in.”
“That’s not nice, Tony,” Clint admonishes. “You know how private she is.”
Tony scowls. “I needed her advice!”
“Call ahead next time.”
Tony shakes his head and pushes himself up from the chair he eventually settled in. “I’ll take this as my cue to leave.” He stops just before he reaches the entryway. “Will we be seeing you around at all?”
I shake my head. “Probably not, no.”
“Shame.” He waves over his shoulder as he heads for the door. “I’ll be in touch.”
The front door closes one last time and I close my laptop and lie down on the couch. Clint sits on the floor in front of me and places my laptop on the coffee table.
“How long was he here?” he asks.
“Hours. Literal hours. He wanted to talk about the Accords.”
“Seriously?”
“I think he’s kind of waffling on his stance with the whole thing. Blames himself for the stuff that they’re citing as the reasons behind the Accords. But that’s bullshit, because they’ve probably been trying to figure out a way to put a leash on people like us for years, Sokovia was just the catalyst.” I turn over onto my front and sigh. “I don’t wanna be someone’s therapist!”
“Definitely not a good idea. You’re not qualified.”
“Super not qualified!” I cry.
“Well,” Bucky says. “He’s gone now, so we might as well chill out and have dinner.”
“What’s for dinner?” I ask.
“Takeout from the Chinese place down the street.”
“Ooh,” I push myself up from the couch. “I love their sweet and sour pork.”
Bucky smirks. “I know you do.”
I bound over to the kitchen and hug him tightly. “You’re the best.”
He laughs and I squeal when he hooks his hands under my thighs and picks me up. “I know I am.”
“Alright, strongman, put me down. Dinner’s getting cold, and Clint’s probably hungry.”
Bucky lets go and kisses the side of my head as soon as my feet touch the floor. We grab plates and flatware and set up the food around the coffee table. We eat and talk and laugh, and Clint eventually misses his dog and goes back to his apartment to get Lucky. Bucky leaves on a mission in the morning and has to go back to the tower. I go to bed alone.
Tumblr media
Over the next week I see a pretty steady stream of old friends waltzing through my door. Sam drops in on Thursday to apologize again and overstays his welcome by two hours. Bruce stops by on Friday to drop off a tin of tea and a book he’d been holding onto since I left. I refuse to turn him away and ask if he wants to stay and stare a pot of tea. We talk for a few hours and I hug him before he leaves. Saturday sees Wanda, Natasha, and Rhodey in quick succession and I take to hiding in Clint’s apartment because I don’t have either him or Bucky through the weekend to act as a buffer. Bucky and Clint leave for a long mission Sunday night and by Tuesday, I’m able to go back to work in my own apartment. I finish my final project by four in the evening and let myself relax for the rest of the night.
Wednesday morning, I wake up restless and decide to go flying. I pack myself snacks and water and leave a note for Clint and Bucky in case they’re back before I am. Before I leave I drop by Clint’s apartment to feed and love on Lucky for a little bit. When I’m thoroughly covered in his hair, I say goodbye and head up to the roof for takeoff.
Flying through the city is different from the country. I have to fly higher than I’d like in order to get out of the smog, and even then I have to worry about avoiding buildings. For all it’s wonders, New York City feels like a bunch of hazards all shoved together and populated past it’s bounds. But still, it’s home. Apparently.
I decide to see how far I can get before my body forces me to turn around, and I get distracted enough while flying north that, without realizing it, I reach the field that Bucky took me to a couple weeks back. It looks just about the same as I remember it, even as the early morning fog dissipates. I take a couple of laps around the field before I decide to move on.
As I near the treeline, something hurtles towards me, and I just barely manage to dodge it before it hits me. I glance over my shoulder, and assume it was a drone or something when I can’t see what it was. I shrug and fly out over the forest. Something comes at me again, this time hitting the primary feathers of my right wing and coating them in a thick, heavy substance. I lose altitude immediately and try to shake whatever it is off. The substance won’t budge, and my left wing is soon hit with another projectile. I try to turn around and get away, but whatever’s on my wings is too heavy and I can’t seem to keep moving. I cry out as I fall to the treetops below.
I crash through several trees on my way down and my pack gets caught on a branch, nearly strangling me until I manage to unclip the strap. Unclipping my bag sends me tumbling to the forest floor and I fall flat on my face, unable to catch myself in time.
Shadows loom over me and I try to get up, only for someone to place their boot between my shoulders and hold me to the earth. I yell and struggle, to no avail and an unseen figure lifts my chin and presses a rag over my nose and mouth. I tell myself not to breathe, but something in me overrides every rational thought. My limbs grow heavy and dark patches start to creep in at the edge of my vision.
I stop moving, and everything goes dark.

as i said earlier, it is an ungodly length but i hope you can enjoy my late night, book-drunk opinions anyway!
***
guess who just finished “ruin and rising”?
i’m seriously not okay. someone send help. i got lots of thoughts, none of which you are obligated to read but this seems like the best place to share.
oh and spoilers, duh.
for starters. woah.
i can’t say it was what i expected but i had known that what my heart really wanted was kinda far out of reach. the ending felt real and feasible, complete with love and loss.
in terms of “ruin and rising” alone, i think it was possibly the strongest of the three books. the pacing was good, nothing felt like it dragged on too long or went too fast for its own good. i think that was really important as well, considering the fact that there was always something going on. literally,, always. no one ever got a damn break.
mal’s “death” hurt me more then i had expected. which honestly leads back to one of my main gripes with this story. the love square (which i elaborate on later in this post, just hold on a bit). i’m not going to lie. i hated mal. through the middle of “siege and storm” up to page 168 of “ruin and rising” (and even then it was a long road from hate to crying over him). he was an ass, i think we can all admit that. for awhile there, i even jumped on the “fuck mal” train and had no plans to stop at any station anytime soon. for the longest time, the relationship with alina felt so fragile and forced, like the only reason it existed was because leigh had written it into existence. though, as i read on, i saw why it was so strained and saw the eventual resolution, which i will admit i was happy with. mal and alina, however annoying and troupe filled their personalities were, did develop as characters. and their relationship made some semblance of sense in the grand scheme of things. does that mean i forgive the “on-again-off-again”, “cold-shoulder”, “we-cant-be-together-in-this-lifetime” bullshit? no. does that mean i suddenly love mal? also, no. does that mean i ship them? ugh slightly. does that mean in a magical dream world where i got to chose what happened, they’d still end up together? impossible to say. BUT i can say, that they deserved each other. and i am happy that they got their peace together like they both always wanted (no matter how out of place it felt at any point), especially considering the fact that she literally had to kill him.
my dear dear darkling... i knew what fate awaited you and yet, when the time came... it hurt just the same.
okay,, that was a bit dramatic. but come on. leigh wrote a damn good villain with aleksander morozova. i meAN, thE lAYERS. he was a horrible person and yet, so many of us still love him. he killed for fun, manipulated no matter the cost, preyed upon the weak because he could, literally blinded his own mother and still! i can’t help but love him. there was so much human woven into his darkness. the moments of simple longing, of exhaustion, of loneliness. in all honesty, if there had been a way to humanize him, to erase or explain away his atrocities and have him just be aleksander again, i feel like i would do it. but, in the context of the story i do understand why it wasn’t possible. redemption for the darkling was off the table, no matter how much humanity still remained. but that’s what makes him such a good character. you want him to be different because you can see the good and all the potential for things to change, for them to rule ravka side by side, but at the same time, he’s the same man who is still actively creating more shadow demon creatures to eat whoever he wishes. you can’t resist him and that’s why he’s so wonderful, yet horrifying at the exact same time. (though don’t worry i am still a trash can and the darklina ship is still superior in the love square. again, i promise i will get there).
i feel like i have to talk about how much i loved the “secondary characters” (i struggle to call them that because they actually run this shit). i will say, at first, i hated zoya. i am not a big fan of the “mean girl” troupe or the “i’m-prettier-than-you-and-i-know-it” thing but... she really grew on me. i looked forward to zoyas comments and constant bitchiness, as did the characters in the books. and when she left the note and the blue kefta with alina in the epilogue,, oh god my heart. and the ragtag crew of grisha making up the remainder of the second army were amazing. their banter and dialogue were some of my favorite scenes to read in “ruin and rising” and i want books just filled with them and only them. david and genya deserve the damn world, adrik was so great, nadia and tamar are so precious, and i will miss harshaw’s weird ass more then you’ll ever know. don’t even get me started on misha and oncat. they are the true stars of this series, you cannot convince me otherwise. god i love them all so much, what a brilliant cast of characters. except the apparat. fuck the stupid ass apparat.
i know what you’re thinking. “you forgot nikolai.” no. i promise you, i most certainly did not. i just love him so much he gets his own chunk.
i mean, how could he not? he’s one of those rare, genuinely perfect characters that are impossible to not love. and i don’t mean perfect because he has no flaws or he’s written unnaturally, i mean perfect because of all of his flaws. he is arrogant and calculating, brash and unapologetic in his ways, but he’s also kind and caring, witty and charming and way too clever for his own good. i rooted for him more then i have ever rooted for someone in my entire life. he made everything ten times better. you can always count on his ass to pop up in a flying ship with a shiny pair of boots, a witty remark, a new plan, and too many ideas.
now, the important business... the ominous love square.
i think the words i used were “one of my main gripes with the story” which is true, but i think leads to a bigger issue with some of the characterization in the story. the “love square” was a term i thought of in relation to the many overlapping and confusing ships that center around alina (obviously being mal, the darkling, and nikolai). all of the ships were so entertwined and written over top of one another that there was no other way for me to describe it and the square seemed like a nice enough analogy. it just felt like way too much on everybody’s plates.
i love nikolai and alinas friendship. i mean, LOVED it. because i loved it so much, i found the little nods to a ship odd and unnecessary. their story line was very focused on the fact that ravka would need a king and queen, hence the scene where he gives her the emerald and all but proposes right then and there. however, that scene would have made scene and carried the same weight had there not been the splashes of romance both before and after. now, i understand why people ship them. and honestly, if under different circumstances, i probably could’ve and would’ve shipped them myself. they would have had one of the best marriages in a society where you didn’t get to marry for love. but it just made everything more complicated. people would’ve speculated on a ship had there been no kisses or pining, soley based on the possibility of a marriage and because of their close friendship so, why was the canon addition of it necessary? i just couldn’t get behind it when i loved their platonic relationship so much and when there were two stronger and more developed ships, waging war in the background.
now, my final bone to be picked... let’s be real for a second, alina in “shadow and bone” sucked. she was annoying and had no personality beyond being a sad, lonely, orphan in the darklings sparkly new grisha world. though i will say, in the later two books, i grew to like her. her character development did its job and i actually think she grew to be a pretty good protagonist. she did her best with the cards she was dealt and i think she did really well. however, her inability to pick a boy constantly bothered me. after being in love with her best friend for literal years, she is really ready to be be the first lady of the second army. and yes. sure you could justify it. she wasn’t getting letters in return, she’d been away for months, she was adapting to her new life, the darkling made her feel seen and wanted which is all a very new feeling to her. but then she goes right back to mal after he makes a confession that he didn’t realize he loved or needed her until she was gone for months (this was one of my biggest problems with mal. my problem only grew when he spent the entirety of “siege and storm” being a dick. but like i said,, we have reconcilied. we are fine now). there were times throughout the series where i genuinely didn’t understand why they were together, why i liked them together, or why i even wanted them to end the series together. alina even asks mal at the end of “ruin and rising” if there entire relationship was based solely on the fact that mal was the last amplifier and the fact that she even had to ask really says something. was their entire romance because of the amplifier? was it because of the “we-are-just-meant-to-be-together” thing? or was there actual chemistry? i really couldn’t tell sometimes. and the darklina ship was even more twisty and winding. he went from telling her deep dark secrets because he wanted to hear the girl he loved say his name to literally threatening everyone she loves because he wants her weak and all to himself. like,, whAt? (again,, layers) and don’t even get me started on the darkling and alina apparition interactions. those were a wild fucking ride. i felt like i was getting manipulated along with the both of them in those. but maybe that was the point of the darkling and alinas relationship. it was supposed to be so horrible yet so electric that you couldn’t pull away. but i doubt the same was meant to be said for mal and alina.
now i feel like i may be coming off in the wrong way. i loved more about this series then i didn’t. but me gushing about every fine detail and conversation that made my heart melt wouldn’t make for the most interesting read, if it was even coherent. all in all, i think it’s safe to say the grisha trilogy is great. does that mean it doesn’t have flaws? of course not. does that mean the flaws outweigh the good and the actual point of the story? absolutely not. my small complaints about a few things really do not take always from the fact that i love this series. i would love anything written by leigh bardugo, especially in the grishaverse.
if you’ve made it this far, that’s commitment. thank you brave soldier. don’t take anything i’ve said with anything more than a grain of salt. seriously. if this is your favorite series, don’t let my lil complaints ruin your day. because really, the good outweighs the bad here tenfold. i’m just a girl with a lot of opinions and a platform to share them at four am... it’s a dangerous game.
but, goodbye grisha trilogy. you have served me well and i will return to reread you soon. but for now i will do a lot of writing (i already have so many fic ideas brewing) and read all the fan fiction and tumblr posts i’ve been avoiding for fear of spoilers.

Halloween Bash - Jaehee Kang
Hello and welcome to spooky season! For the next week I’m going to post a Halloween one shot every night. I random number generated the post order, prompts, and other little details about it, so I’ll be including those at the beginning of the story
Prompts: RFA party, bobbing for apples, stay all night
Summary: the RFA is throwing a little Halloween bash for its members. You and Jaehee dress to impress
You and Jaehee had put a lot of thought and effort into the RFA Halloween party. Rika had done it once before in the past and you wanted to bring it back and hopefully make it a fun tradition. You planned to have a costume contest, bobbing for apples, and the Monster Mash on repeat.
Jaehee had left the costumes up to you. It took you a while to find good costumes (there were a zillion Hetero couples costumes but you really struggled to find something creative for the two of you), but when you saw it you knew it was perfect. Of course, you couldn’t both win the costume contest, but you definitely wanted to match.
You walked into the coffee shop where Jaehee was hanging a streamers, and plopped the costumes onto the table next to her. “Are those the Scooby Doo characters?” She asked, glancing down at the costumes then focusing her energy back to the task at hand.
“Velma and Daphne! Jaehee, don’t tell me you didn’t know their names,” you sighed, plopping onto the chair next to her.
“I actually did watch Scooby Doo as a kid, but it’s been a while,” she smiled. She stuck one more piece of tape then carefully got off the chair she was standing on to sit next to you. “I think it’ll be quite cute.”
“Oo! I also got this hairspray stuff for you that temporarily dyes it orange. It might be kind of unnatural but-“
“You want me to be Daphne?” She cut you off, her eyebrows raised skeptically.
“Duh! I think you’d look really nice as her. Why? Would you rather be Velma?” You glanced down at the costumes. Fortunately you two were nearly the same size.
“No, I just. I don’t know... I assumed you’d want me to be Velma. I did look a lot like her...”
“Yeah, because Jumin made you. You look so beautiful now and I want you to embrace those changes! Putting on a short wig and glasses would do the exact opposite.”
She leaned across the table to grab your hand. “Thank you. I don’t think you understand how much that means to me.
“Of course. Now if you’re done with the decorations can I help you do the hair?”
“I set one banner up...”
You looked around. Huh. She was right. “Whoops. Got so excited I didn’t even notice that. Let me help you set things up first then.”
The two of you were an excellent team, obviously, and made quick work of setting up the decorations. Jaehee had splurged on some nice decorations. Lots and lots of pumpkins and pumpkin banners (to go with your pumpkin treats you had made ahead of time) and even a very realistic cauldron for the bobbing for apples game. Granted, her decor was very mild and not scary, spare one thing she splurged on. She set up one of those spiders that jump out at you when you walked past it, then put it by the entry.
“Jaehee... I didn’t know you were so diabolical...” you chuckled, putting batteries in the machine to get it running.
“I just want to see Mr. H- I mean Jumin, jump. He has a fear of spiders you know.”
“I’ll be sure to get it on camera,” you winked at her.
The next step was getting all dressed up. You started with the hair dye, which blended surprisingly well with her now-long hair. It wasn’t too neon, but enough that you could tell she was now a redhead. You helped her with some winged eyeliner, as she had never done a wing herself, and some sparkly pink lipgloss. Once she was all dressed, you took a step back to admire your handiwork. “Jaehee, you look kinda hot,” you complimented, suddenly feeling extremely embarrassed.
Her cheeks shot red from the compliment as she worked hard to look anywhere but your eyes. “You don’t think it’s too much?”
“No, I think you look exactly like her. Now will you help me get this wig on?”
Turns out getting a wig on is a two, probably three honestly, person task. Especially with your baby hairs that kept falling out of place. Luckily, Jaehee helped you fix it until it was absolutely perfect. You got all dressed next. “What do you think?” You asked, doing a little spin.
“They really didn’t include the glasses with the costume?” She asked, turning the bag upside-down to ensure you hadn’t missed anything. “Huh. Well, luckily for us I think I still have my old pair.”
Jaehee disappeared to the back. You heard a lot of rustling through drawers before she came back victorious. “No prescription or anything, just regular frames.” She carefully put them on your face. “Perfect. Now you look the part.”
You opened your phone camera to check your outfit. “We look GOOD! Best couples costume ever.” You glanced at the time. “And just in time too. We’ve gotta get to the front so we can see everyone get scared by the spider.
Jumin and Yoosung arrived together, no surprise since Yoosung was still his acting assistant. Jumin jumped slightly at the spider, but it was nowhere close to Yoosung, who backed into Jumin so quickly that he knocked the both of them over. You and Jaehee couldn’t contain your laughter, not making any movement to help them up.
Luckily there were no injuries, as the two got up relatively fast and made their way over to you. “Oh Assistant K- I mean, Jaehee,” Jumin said to you, “Some days I miss you more than others. And this is definitely one of those days.” He obviously did and didn’t mean it at the same time; he was teasing Yoosung. But oh! More pressing matters at hand.
“I’m not Jaehee,” you giggled. Jumin’s mouth fell open in shock. Obviously you were right; your voices were quite different, but you really pulled a fast one on him.
“Forgive me. I just thought... well, what are you two anyways?”
“You don’t know? They’re from Scooby Doo!” Yoosung yelled, very surprised that Jumin didn’t recognize it.
“Scooby huh?”
“Scooby Doo! It’s a kids show. You’re... more hopeless than I thought,” he said sadly.
“You two look nice! Frankenstein and his monster. Very creative.” You complimented them.
The conversation was halted when Zen walked in the room, bumping into the glass door as he jumped away from the spider. You all laughed this time.
Zen was quickly followed by Seven and V, who were not shocked by the spider at all. Figures. Zen was a vampire, V was dressed as a pirate, and Seven was... oh god why was he in his maid costume.
“You all look nice!” Jaehee complimented. “Let me get some music on and then we’ll start everything up.”
“Jaehee, that’s you!?” Zen exclaimed. “You look great!”
“Thanks!” She called. The Monsrer Mash started playing. She made her way back to the group. “Although it wasn’t exactly my idea.”
“I am a genius, I know.” You commented, accepting your praise. Jaehee hit your shoulder playfully and you got the party started.
The activity of the night was bobbing for apples. Was this a good idea? Probably not. But it’d be fun. You got to man the station and time how long it took everyone to get their apples. Jumin took the longest... literally over three minutes because he didn’t want to hurt his teeth. Zen was the quickest, trying to make sure he beat Jumin, which was not challenging to do.
Jaehee finished her turn and got right in the middle of the times. Her lipgloss was smeared down her face. “You know, maybe this idea had a few flaws,” you giggled, grabbing a paper towel to help her dry her face off. You very gently patted her face dry, using your finger to gently wipe the lipgloss away. It was strangely intimate and the two of you were both flushing messes, despite the fact that you were literally dating. No makeup problems for you though! The only issue was that the glasses fell off in the water, traditional Velma style, and the game became bobbing for glasses.
Zen’s prize for winning was a caramel apple designed to look like a pumpkin. Pretty creative from you and Jaehee to be honest. He rubbed it in Jumin’s face nonstop, and you figured he would for the next year until the next contest.
When it came down to voting for the best costume, it was no surprise to read out the results. Everyone had voted for Jaehee. There was one vote for you of course, because Jaehee was a supportive girlfriend and would NEVER vote for herself. Even Seven didn’t vote for himself which was, honestly, quite a relief. You were proud that her costume was so good Seven considered it better than his “Mary Vanderwood III” getup, whatever that meant.
Jaehee’s very special prize was homemade chocolate and pretzel bark the two of you had made the other night. Honestly, you were glad she won because it was so good and she would share it with you.
The two of you stayed all night. You sort of had to, considering it was taking place at your coffee shop. But you had a great time dishing out (non alcoholic) drinks and pumpkin cookies and candy.
You played pin the stem on the pumpkin (which V actually won, which honestly should not surprise anyone) and spent most of the time hearing everyone complaining about the Monster Mash playing for the fiftieth time. It wasn’t your fault. There weren’t that many Halloween songs and this one was Jaehee’s absolute favorite.
Once everyone left, the two of you plopped down on the sofa in the corner of the shop. “I’m so tired,” Jaehee groaned, resting her head on your shoulder and propping her feet up. “You sure we can’t just sleep here tonight?”
You laughed, chest shaking as you giggled, causing Jaehee to shift slightly. “We still have to open tomorrow at 6. And as much fun as it sounds to stay the night here, I’m worried your hair will become permanently orange if we don’t wash it out.”
She let out an exhasperated sigh, standing up and taking your hands to help pull you up. “Okay, but only if you help me wash it out. I’m too tired, and I don’t think I’ll be able to get the back.”
You winked at her. “Sure, whatever you say, Jaehee.”

Imperfect and inhuman, are we?
Fandom: School of Rock: The Musical (AU Verse) Chapters: 2/? Pairing: Dewey Finn x OC (Magdalena Newton) The Players: Dewey Finn, Magdalena Newton, Ned Schneebly, The School of Rock Students Word Count: 1,779 Warnings: M for Future Things
Notes: Oh yeah, this was a thing I was doing.
Chapter 2 - Evening - Serenade
It was that near perfect sort of weather outside: the kind where it was cool enough to open all the windows, but not cold enough to warrant breaking out the portable heater and pointing directly at his feet. Instead of shutting himself away in the makeshift “soundproof” corner of his apartment, Dewey decided to take his personal jam session out onto the fire escape.
He had long since chased away the neighbors who took issue with his might tributes to the rock gods, so he wasn’t too concerned with having the police called on him.
Again.
Noise complaints carried expensive ass tickets.
Besides, using an acoustic guitar dampened the noise enough to satisfy the holdout residents around the building.
“Why is this G sounding like an A? Are you out of tune- fuck!” He mumbled though the impromptu song, angrily adjusting the strings. “I thought I fixed you when the humidity changed.”
“I don’t know that song,” a voice from the alleyway below called up to him. “Play Freebird.”
Startled, Dewey nearly fell off the windowsill onto the harsh, metal grating of the fire escape. Setting he guitar -gently- on the floor of the apartment, he climbed outside, peering down over the shaky railing to the ground below.
Looking ever so much the small, porcelain doll from such a height, he spotted a familiar woman wrapped in a winter white coat. Her dark hair spilled over one shoulder onto the pristine fabric, reminding him of one of those ink blot tests the Horace Green resident counselor would give the faculty every month.
She waved up to him, but it was hard to read her expression from such a distance. He could only assume she was in a good mood from her cheeky joke about requested another song. Then again, he had yet to see her in a bad mood.
Dewey was surprised -in the very best way- to see her so early in the evening. Magdalena had a habit of catching him as he arrived home from late night practice; it was uncanny how she always seemed to sneak up on him, barely making a sound as she approached him on the sidewalk. Normally, he could hear a pin drop from six feet away, but she was something else.
They would exchange pleasantries before she would continue her trek down the sidewalk toward the city proper, “to work” as she explained. She made no attempt to elaborate on what sort of job started so late at night; so, he guessed it was something medical.
Or she was a classy hooker.
Didn’t much bother him either way.
“Hey, Snow White!” Dewey called down to her, “Hold on, I’ll be right down.”
He near leapt back into his apartment, scrambling around on all fours, picking through various piles of laundry on the floor. They were organized – in a way – by the level of wear they received throughout the week. Obviously, something on the fresher side was the goal; it would be mortifying to pick out a shirt that had food stains or some other sign of his lack of forethought to hit the laundromat last week.
Magdalena always looked like a million bucks striking down that grimy sidewalk, whereas he looked like he rolled around a thrift store clothing bin.
He had gotten most of his wardrobe from thrifting, but she didn’t need to know.
“Aaaah – I’ll be right down… gimme just another minute.” He grabbed a sweater vest from under his bed, jamming it over his head as he yelled toward the window. “I don’t want you being late… for… whatever you would be late for!”
Struggling with the vest, as he had somehow managed to slip his head through an arm hole, he failed to notice the woman sitting politely outside the window.
Magdalena watching him angrily try and right himself; amused that he was taking such great pains to dress nicely for her sudden arrival. Frankly, what he already had on was enough for her, as she enjoyed seeing him so vulnerable?
No, casual was a better choice. Sometimes the nuance escaped her.
“No need to shout, Mr. Finn.” Magdalena finally announced herself, wanting to end his struggles. “I can hear you perfectly well.”
Dewey stopped midway removing the vest, dropping the garment to the ground, and pulling his t-shirt down over his stomach. It had ridden upward in his haste, exposing his midsection entirely. A bright blush spread across his cheeks, noting the fact she had been starting directly at the exposed pudge of his belly. Was it because of the pudge? It was the pudge, he concluded, her staring at him for any other reason was making a beeline for cheesy porn fantasy territory.
“What- how did you get up here?” He asked, blinking slowly.
Magdalena tilted her head, mirroring is blink, “The stairs.”
“Well, yeah duh the stairs, I meant like how you got up here so fast. There are like fifty steps up to this floor-” He sat on the windowsill across from her.
“Fifty-three steps.” She corrected him gently, brushing some stray hair behind her ear.
“How do you- “Dewey began.
“I counted.” Magdalena finished for him. “I passed all of my arithmetic courses some years ago, Mr. Finn, as I’m sure you have.”
Pausing, he ran a hand through his mess of hair, trying to smooth down his perpetual bedhead fluff. Magdalena’s hand twitched with the impulse to run her fingers through his hair, wondering if it would be as soft as it looked against her sensitive skin. It wouldn’t have been too hard to just reach over a little, just for a brief moment to keep that sensation as a memory.
Two things kept her impulse in check: one, social convention would frown upon such a familiar gesture of affection towards a man she hadn’t yet spoke a thousand words to altogether. Two; she dared not cross the threshold between the fire escape and his apartment.
Fire escapes were public, specifically owned apartments were not.
“I… sound like a complete jackass when I talk to you. I’m usually better? Sometimes. Most times. Promise. Swear on my vinyl collection; may it melt if I’m lying.” Dewey scratched the back of his neck nervously.
Shrugging, she gave him a small, reassuring smile, “Well, I don’t know anyone personally to compare your behaviors with, but I’m hardly offended by what you say.
Dewey looked about to cry, which she couldn’t be sure if it were because of her response, or the chill in the weather. He leaned forward, elbow on his knees, with his chin in his hand. The fact that his upper body was now technically beyond the windowsill was not lost on her, her eyes flicking down to calculate the angle between his head and the window frame.
He sighed heavily, taking note of her impeccable posture, “You’re so… polite, ya know that? Like those women in fancy drama movies on PBS. Sitting around waiting to marry some fancy lord or whatever. Why are you up here talking to me anyway?”
“Oh, well, shouting from the street would be grossly inappropriate. My mother, she always says, ‘Magda’” She deepened her accent, hunching slightly, “ ‘If they cannot be close enough to hear you speaking softly, they aren’t worthy of hearing what you have to say in the first place.’”
“So, you came up here because you wanted me to hear you better?” Dewey tried to piece what he could through the thick, eastern European accent she had donned. “I would have come down! Now you’ll get that coat all covered in rust and I’m gonna feel bad about it. And that’s gonna make me break out the wallet so you can get it dry cleaned, because I need to be a gentleman.”
Magdalena laughed, covering her mouth with the back of her hand, “I can get it washed, no charity required. It’s just a coat; but a Mr. Finn is unique, so I will gladly sacrifice something that can be replaced.”
The rocker stared at her, his jaw a little slack, “…are you real?”
“The eternal question plaguing the greatest minds in history.” She played with the ends of her inky hair, twisting it around her fingers, “Maybe. Maybe not. In this instance of sitting with you, yes, we are real in relation to each other. Then again, when I leave, you might not exist until I come back. Or vice-versa.”
“Terrifying,” He replied, shaking his head sadly.
Seizing the opportunity, she reached over with her free hand, patting his shoulder softly, “Quite; but I could always be wrong, Mr. Finn.”
Dewey reached upward, placing his larger hand upon hers, frowning when he felt how cold she felt, “Hey, why didn’t you tell me you were freezing? Here.”
Before she could stop him, he took hold of both her hands, pulling them inside the warmth of the apartment, rubbing them between his own hands to generate heat. Magdalena’s arms felt like their were being pulled through a nest of razor wire, her very sinew feeling as if it were being peeled back from her muscles.
She steeled her expression, biting her tongue to keep from screeching in pain from his selfless gesture, trembling head to toe with the effort. He thankfully didn’t notice her discomfort, cupping his hands around hers and puffing warm breaths against her cold skin. What should have been a tender, friendly gesture was being overridden by her compulsion to stay outside. His permission needed to be verbal, not physical. Words were powerful things in her experience.
Her head was pounding, her vision growing blurry with the pain streaking through her veins like acid. Faintly, she could feel a small drop of blood leaking out from her nose, trickling down her to her lip, and falling onto her lap.
Dewey must have taken his attention away from her hands, his eyes growing wide as he let her go, “You’re bleeding? Are you okay? Snow?”
The woman pulled her hands toward her body, one of them going up to try and hide her bloody nose, “Oh! I’m… forgive me, it happens occasionally. Not your fault!”
The moment her hands were outside the threshold of the window, her body felt perfectly normal. No pain, no throbbing headache. Just as she had been moments before.
“Allergy medication. Sometimes with the dry weather… ah, still, I apologize for the gruesome interruption.” She took a handkerchief out of her coat pocket, wiping away the blood as best she could. “Did I get it all? Less hideous?”
Leaning forward, Dewey pretended to examine her face, struggling to keep a stern expression, “Well, less hideous than you usually are, so it’s a start. Might take a little more work to get you from hideous to tolerable.”
Magdalena pouted, stuffing the handkerchief back into her pocket, “I’ll enlist your help to make sure I’m daresay presentable in the future. Goodnight, Mr. Finn, I expect a better song choice tomorrow.”
