I've rewatched caretaker and I realised that out of all the characters in Voyager, Ayala is the FOURTH one we see. No I'm not kidding he is fourth. We see Chakotay first, it pans over to Tuvok. Than we see Torres and Ayala is there in the background. The bridge is really misty so he's a bit hard to spot. He doesn't say a word. He just does things in the background.
