I really love your art and the varying skin tones you use! This may sound like a strange question but what cultures/real life races do you take inspiration from? I hope that's okay to ask!
Hey anon that is beyond okay to ask! And honestly, all the characters who are poc I draw are black (unless I state otherwise). Like i just use varying skintones but I just take from black cultures (because there are tons) and use varying black skin tones/features.
like unless i state otherwise all of my characters i draw with tan/brown skin are just black. i do hc other characters to be white and i'll draw them as such, but most of my diverse characters are black just because that's what i know and am comfortable drawing. i don't want to be disrespectful and portray another culture in a harmful way. that's just me though!

The ASOIAF fandom is so funny about discourse; both in topics and reactions. The other main fandom I frequent on Tumblr is Tolkien, and the difference is remarkable.
For instance, in the story of the Fall of Numenor, there's a story about the usurpation of a woman that leads to tragedy. I'm talking, of course, about Tar-Míriel. She was the rightful queen of Numenor, but was usurped by her cousin Ar-Pharazôn, who caused the destruction of Numenor.
There is not a single person in the Tolken fandom who argues that Ar-Pharazôn was in the right, was actually a good person, or that Tar-Míriel deserved to be usurped. Granted, the story isn't actually the same as that of the Dance, but the bare bones are pretty similar.
Tar-Míriel isn't a morally gray character like Rhaenyra, in fact we know very little about her, but the parts we do know are good. However, both Rhaenyra and Tar-Míriel were declared their fathers' heirs despite the existence of close male relatives. They were both usurped and ultimately killed (Míriel indirectly) by a male relative.
Ar-Pharazôn and Aegon II are both written as almost cartoonishly evil. They both were horrible rulers and warmongers. Their reigns caused massive tragedies; Aegon II and his faction caused the deaths of the dragons and Ar-Pharazôn's actions caused Iluvatar to destroy Numenor.
Now, I'm not saying that these two stories are meant to be connected or paralleled, they simple capture a similar story pattern rooted in history. My point is that the ASOIAF fandom has a major issue.
The greens are not secretly heroes, good people, or morally superior to the blacks in any way, shape, or form. The obsession of the ASOIAF fandom to turn them into more "sympathetic" characters is ridiculous. Fandoms like the Tolkien one are able to embrace a character being a villain without trying to turn them into a hero.
It's so frustrating because this obsession with making the greens into protagonists damages fandom discourse. It's turned the Dance into a cheap "choose your team" issue, rather than a story of the damage of misogyny, the patriarchy, and warring lords. The arguments over which team is right is absurd and creates a space were misogyny is fostered and encouraged (even some TB fans)
I know, a majority of my posts are complaining about TG and their stans, so I'm guilty of perpetuating the cycle. But there's a difference between analysis of a character and arguing with people's rotten takes and just reducing the story to team discourse; I try my best to avoid the latter.
I'm sure a large part of this issue can be traced to HOTD, but I think it's indicative of deeper problem in the fandom. People reduce the issues in the main books to "who's gonna take the throne" rather than actually addressing things. They're so comfortable spouting misogyny in regards to Daenerys and Arya. The ASOIAF fandom has deeper issues that are being exacerbated by the writing decisions of HOTD and, before that, GOT.

[image description
1: a north African woman wearing a headscarf. The background is grey weaving. Text = MIRIEL who was called Serindë, because of her surpassing skill in weaving and needlework; for her hands were more skilled to fineness than any hands even among the Noldor
2: a east African woman wearing gold. Background has the ruffles of a dancers dress. Text = INDIS laboured not with her hands, but sang and made music, and there was ever light and mirth about her while the bliss of Aman endured.]

While I slog through a fic I actually really want to tell (the joys of writing!) I decided to talk about that Feanor as Melkor's son AU I mentioned in my tags
So far I have three possibilities, from least realized to most:
Feanor as Melkor and Mairon bio baby, so far I don't really have much for this one, the Valar find baby Feanor after Melkor's imprisonment (haven't decided why Mairon wouldn't have escaped with the baby) and give him to Finwe to raise (I hadn't realized it doesn't makes sense for Miriel to die in this one until now, so either she doesn't and it's full throwing away canon or in this one she doesn't exist and Finwe just didn't want to tell Feanor who his real parents were, it's both sad and funny)
Baby Feanor kidnap adopted by Melkor, the timeline is bothering me here, maybe Feanor is born before Melkor's imprisonment? Or he leaves imprisonment way before the original? I mostly wanted this to be funny about Melkor and Mairon getting so attached and wanting so bad to be good parents to feral child Feanor that they actually get redeemed (although dark!Feanor x Nerdanel is very intriguing)
And the one I (unfortunately) have the most on (as of right now) is Feanor as Melkor... and Miriel's son, I jokingly thought about this one but alas it got bigger than I expected, so: Melkor decides to go mess with the elves only to find Miriel collecting bugs (they're silk worms, weird bug girl Miriel for the win!) and he gets actually quite impressed with her desire to not settle with the world and wanting to make it prettier with fabrics, they fall in love (or as much in love Melkor can be, so far he is more like canon evil Melkor than the softer one of the other two ideas) but when she finds out who he is, she runs away and falls for Finwe instead.
Finwe is then totally cool with raising Miriel's child because he loves her so much but Miriel keeps feeling she's awful for her previous love for Melkor, combined with the power required to sustain a half-ainur child, and ends up dying.
Finwe of course, absolutely adores little Feanor despite not being his bio dad, and thus names him Finwion (later Curufinwe), but raising a half-ainur child is not easy, especially when you can't actually ask anyone for help without revealing the truth, so Finwe just has to deal with eldritch child Feanor, alone.
(like, one time there's a teacher Feanor hates because he heard the teacher say that Feanor killed Miriel, so Feanor gives the teacher a bracelet he doesn't even understand how he made cursed, the teacher then complains to Finwe, who is just trying to understand how to explain to his son that he can't do that, also he fires the teacher)
Then it's basically the same as canon up until Melkor return, because instead of trying to create discord he arrives and realizes Feanor's his son and tries to pull a Darth Vader and convince Feanor to join him.
Feanor is, of course, against the idea but Melkor is convinced that if he reveals Feanor's true parentage in the upcoming festival then the uproar and hate will cause Feanor to be more willing.
Only, right before he can make his announcement Feanor shows up wearing the silmarils (Melkor decides to rename him Lightbringer but I haven't figured out what that is in Quenya) and instead of going along with Melkor, Feanor
Bows. to. MANWE!!!!!
And does a whole speech about Melkor trying to deceive him by claiming he isn't Finwe's son (Feanor already realized the truth, he's just rejecting it) and doing a whole spectacle of proof
The Finwe family isn't stupid and to Feanor's surprise, the first person to join his show is INDIS!!! Joined then (in order) by Nolo, Nerdanel, and Maglor (if it was political it would be Maedhros but it's a performance remember)
Manwe isn't stupid and understands what they are doing so when Melkor tries to say that it's all Finwe's lie he just tells Melkor that it was clear that Feanor was Finwe's son
Melkor storms out (he still plans to destroy the trees but his objective is Feanor instead of just the silmarils) and the Finweans leave too
Feanor has a cathartic talk and cry with his dad while the rest of the family discuss what this means for them all, Feanor is now more open to his half-family and his relation to the other Valas is totally different, and how that could end up having happier ending to the story.
And that's how much I have of this one, it compels me but it's the only one that I have no idea of how to add Melkor x Mairon and the original idea was about THEM as parents whereas this one is about the original Finweans in a different situation so I'm conflicted

Synopsis: The kingdom of Numenor has been on the decline, ever since they forsake the ways of the elves. Not to mention the time when Ar-Pharazon ursurped the Queen regent Tar-Miriel from her throne ever since she returned from her voyage without her eyesight and after the passing of her father. It wasn't until Elendir was put into prison and after she succesfully faced the trials of the Sea, that their horrendous reign of terror was put to a screeching halt. Unfortunately, the damage done by them from the influence of Suaron and his treachory the damage was done. Which is when the Valar decide to pay them all a visit, and inform them of the doom that will shortly befall this once great kingdom. At first she thought that her dream many moons ago, of a great wave crashing into the buildings and destroying everything in its path was just a nightmare.
However, it was the visit from the Valar which sadly confirmed, the very things she was afraid would be true. In order to ensure the safety of her people, Miriel bravely steps up and makes the ultimate sacrifice by staying behind, an action that absolutely horrifies the son of Amandil. So, the great queen regent, and the captain of the sea guard, share one last night of full of passion and love together before they get separated seemingly, for the foreseeable future in their eyes. This adult romance is full of love and mutual desire, but also doesn't shy away from the sheer grief experienced from losing the one that was so close to their heart.
----Teaser from Bound for Paradise----------
The captain of the sea guard, opted to wear a long sleeve white shirt which fit perfectly with his broad shoulders and chest which was lean. His trousers were of an almost olive green color while his shoes were black, and the golden brooch he wore was that of the sun. After spraying himself with musk scented perfume, he stared at his reflection in the mirror and sighed aloud. "This might be last day I am to fully spend with the queen, before I embark on a journey with our people that shall separate us for eternity. I better not be late."
The throne room was bustling with activity, with the citizens of Numenor dressed in their finest garb. Despite the situation, those Numenoreans appeared to be in jovial spirits. The population was so large, that there were people in the balcony and two groups stood on the marble floors standing at least 20 feet away from the path that lead up to the throne. Elendil stood at the bottom of the steps waiting for the arrival of the queen in bated breath.
"Hopefully, the fair lady is alright and on her way soon. I am already so worried for her." The minute that thought filled his head, the large ornate doors opened and in walked Tar-Miriel causing the Numenoreans who were in the balcony to erupt in a fit of whistles and cheers. "Hail our beloved Queen Tar-Miriel, daughter of Tar-Palantir friend to the sea!"
When he saw her slowly making her way down, the path it was like his world stopped. Tar-Miriel wore a shoulder less pastel pink gown, that was slightly poofy in nature with a belt made of gold and blue jewels went around her waist.
A diadem crown of silver was snug atop of her head, while her gorgeous curls flowed behind her back. When she approached the bottom steps where he stood Elendil bowed instantly. "You are truly the fairest in all of Middle Earth"He said, rising to his full height that slightly towered over her. "I have sailed the seas and traveled far and wide, yet none I have found can compare to you. The way your rich complexion glistens underneath the sunlight, the pout of your luscious lips in that pink gloss simply renders me speechless. Your strength, kindness, and wisdom you have kept with in you throughout all these many years is apart of the many reasons why I am captivated by you Miriel."<br />
At the sound of his words of praise, Tar-Miriel simply let out a brief chuckle which was music to his ears.
"You flatter me far too much Elendil"She said, looking up at him with a soft expression on her face. Her irises that were a russet color, were pools of warmth and beauty he couldn't help but get lost in. "I only speak the truth, my queen."  He held out his hand and she placed hers onto his, and Elendil felt a sense of pride that she trusted him to assist her. His grip was firm yet gentle as the queen made her way up the steps that lead up to her throne. "Your hand feels quite rough, I hope that is not a sign of injury"She said as she sat on her throne. Elendil smiled in response to her remark on the texture of his hand. "Not of injury, I am in perfect health my queen"He said, his tone full of reassurance.
"Just a sign of hard labor, from a Numenorean who neglected to exfoliate." Tar-Miriel visibly relaxed once she was assured he was inn good health, even at 202 she couldn't help but worry over him just like he did for her. Tar-Miriel breathed in and exhaled deeply before she addressed her fellow Numenoreans. "My beloved citizens of Numenor, I know that the course of events that had taken place earlier this week was not at all what any of us had in mind"She said. "The visit from the Valar shocked me to my core, because it gave confirmation to something I feared might be true." There were slight murmurs that fell over the crowd, with many people turning to each other in a state of confusion as they tried to ascertain what message the queen was to bestow upon them.
"There was a season that happened many moons ago, before Ar-Pharazon aspired to usurp the throne out from under me when I had this vision. I was sitting down in an opulent room, not unlike this one wearing a royal blue dress with a golden crown on my head and a babe swathed in red scarf in arms. Suddenly, I heard noises that sounded like the cracks of thunder before a storm, and as I stood up to gaze outside I saw a great wave." There were several audible gasps from the audience, while they took in this new information.
"It was crashing into everything, destroying every single piece of architecture our forebears built, and I turned around to run but it was far too late. Initially, I ignored it as I thought it had be some horrendous nightmare, but that untimely visit from the Valar only confirmed it. Though I was not meant to make it out, I humbly ask that you not allow your hearts to be troubled for too long. Though I had hoped for some extra years with you all, sometimes that is not possible and I have made peace with that."

before i even read your tags on that celegorm poll i was thinking god, is there albino celegorm art?
There's only one I've seen that comes to mind (a lot of people draw Tyelko as very silver haired and pale, but not necessarily albino if that makes sense? Of course everyone looks different but there's a difference between no pigment everywhere/just being platinum blond) anyways I looked as hard as I could for the original post but I can't find it! It's something I have pinned on Pinterest and I don't want to post something without crediting the artist but I'll to send you the pin link. He's so pretty like that 😍

Ar-Pharazon from the Reverse Gondolin AU and as Witch-King of Numenor - thanks to @who-needs-words for helping develop this idea!
#silm#silmarillion#second age#ar pharazon#reverse gondolin au#(well more like the aftermath of gondolin reversal)#this au has consumed my life#on the plus side inspiration for feanor is finally reemerging from under the metaphorical couch so i might get something finwion-y done soo#aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa so much to draw so little time#seriously though golden nazgul is such a cool idea#whatever the mordor equivalent for the angband trio is (sauron pharazon and shelob maybe?) is going to look so cool in black and gold#black/gold black hole shelob!!#and prince elrond is super finwiony looking#also he has his wings & glowiness out a lot more so that'll be fun#but yeah basically in the au Prince Elrond realized via foresight what was happening/going to happen in numenor#so he went there and disowned ar pharazon (by extension removing him from the throne) and crowned tar miriel rightful Ruling Queen#then later when sauron showed up he came back kicked sauron out and outlawed the death cult#but between that time sauron secretly recruited ar pharazon by promising him kingship in exchange for his support#and anyways ar pharazon survived all the way to the TA as the Witch King#(mr. angmar here gets to be second in command of the nazgul sorry)#-imagine this guy showing up to be all 'bagginssss' though#the witch king of numenor is somehow even more dramatic#also the whole 'no living man can kill me' is. a bit different coming from a guy who has many enemies in the form of#a) his cousin the Ruling Queen of Numenor#b) his uncle the choice-of-elves-peredhel#c) a bunch of Faithful in the Halls#the dead guys aren't too much of a problem#but i wonder if he heard that prophecy and worried a whole lot more about the Ruling Queens#or Prince Elrond who in the au has very definitely embraced his maia-ness#and then imagine his surprise hearing 'but no living man am i' and it coming from. a random human lady.
