Okay but imagine this: if task force 141 get thrown into Faerûn just as they are (i dunno, a portal opens up during a mission for neutralizing a huge dnd cultist-terrorist organization, whatever), with their ammunition, gear, guns etc. They quickly realize that the guns are kinda useless, because there is no way to supply them with bullets etc and then again, the fuck is your rifle gonna do against a literal fireball or a revived skeleton. But they can't just drop them, because who knows who's gonna find them and do what; but if they keep carrying those around, maybe they'll find a way to adapt their firearms to the new reality. And finally, they are still hoping to get back home... at least in the beginning.
And this is how Soap's sniper rifle becomes just a fancy toy. He still takes care of it, but there's no point in using it... until he catches Karlach's curious look while he's busying his hands (fella gotta fidget) with cleaning up this intimidating (at least it was) weapon. Karlach knows a good weapon when she sees one even if she has never seen anything like this before; she's both fought barehanded and seen how far mechanics can go in terms of ways to kill someone. And this polished beauty with a ton of little interesting details in construction is definitely a good weapon.
Soap is beaming when Karlach asks to show and explain how it works. He goes over the whole mechanism, gives her a three hours speech about different types of firearms, nearly starts a chemistry lesson on gunpowder and draws schemes with a stick on the ground to explain all the physics of a good shot. He wouldn't even notice if Karlach dozed off in the middle of this tirade. But Karlach surprises everyone, including herself, by staying extra attentive this whole time. Her head might hurt a little from trying to stuff all this information inside at once, but she senses Johnny's passion about the subject and it's contagious.
And then Soap asks her, giving her a heavy friendly slap on the shoulder: "Wanntae have a go?"
"Aye, soldier, don't have to ask me twice!" Karlach's already picked up a little of his accent and it earns her a cheeky smile from Soap, but what really makes him beam and jump to his feet immediately with his rifle in hand is that she's ecstatic to go and try shooting this thing.
They move a little away from camp so that they won't startle anyone there or draw unnecessary attention to the location and choose a target, a fallen tree trunk on one side of a large clearing. Soap gets into position and that pretty shiny thing in his arms goes boom, slicing a teeny tiny branch that was sticking out on the trunk clean off.
Karlach is hot with excitement, buzzing while Johnny explains her how to get into the right shooting position and what needs extra attenion when making a shot. He shoots one or two more times before her impatience gets to him and he scoots to the side, offering her a place behind the gun. Karlach copies his pose as best as she can, a good straight line and not much leaning forward. She is a soldier, a good one, she can follow instructions and handle the recoil, but what hurts her performance is... that same impatience. That beautiful SP-X 80 goes off in her hands almost immediately and although Karlach doesn't miss that poor tree entirely, the bullet lands nowhere near the spot Soap pointed out as target. Aww, dammit, soldier.
Soap doesn't seem upset in the slightest though (if anything, he is trying to keep his eyes off her ass, presented to him like a birthday cake). He just moves closer again and adjusts Karlach's grip on the handle, keeping his hands on her and using this lesson as a shameless excuse to get his paws all over the excited tiefling while he makes her calm down her breathing and watch that little cross in them complex optics.
"Close yer een, bonnie, take a couple breaths... aye, just like tha'. Is the reticle still on target? Good, now breathe out again 'n' when ye get that wee pause in yer body… shoot."
Maybe it's not entirely fair for him to ask Karlach to breathe normally when his calloused hand is right there on her back, touching her (touching her!) under the excuse of showing that lowest point in breathing when the trigger should be pulled. But they are not in a competition and good for her: despite following instructions to a t she can't seem to master it. She doesn't miss every single attempt, but her aim is clearly off. Her tail gives away her disappointment in shots landing slightly off target and coils around Johnny's ankle as he crouches next to Karlach laid out there in a proper prone position and watches her with a twinkle in his blue eyes.
When the last bullet they took with them shatters dead wood almost, almost right where she wanted, Karlach sighs and rolls on her side, quickly noticing how cozy her tail got with Soap's leg and untangling it as if nothing happened.
"Dinnae worrie, soldier, aim gets better wi' practice." Karlach earns another friendly slap on her shoulder and the faintest frown that hid in her brows immediately goes away, replaced by a toothy grin.
"Practice, eh, mate?" She repeats, and Johnny already knows she's got something on her mind. "Wanna go throw axes then?"

Year of the Ox (Minotaur x Reader)
Pairings: Gender Neutral!Reader/M!Minotaur
Genre: Fantasy, Friends to Lovers, First times
Warnings: Explicit content (18+ only) ahead
Word Count: 3243 words
Summary: On the night of the annual new year's festival, you decide to treat your Minotaur neighbor to some new experiences.
“____, have you finished rolling those croissants yet?” The exasperated sound of your mother’s voice bounces off the small kitchen walls, shocking you out of your daydreaming and jerking your body into motion. On the counter besides you lies 40-something flat triangles of pastry, only one half-rolled into a semi-decent croissant shape.
“Uh, almost!” You yell towards the living room, scrambling to the cutting board.
“Those croissants have to be ready by tonight, darling! We can’t be the only family not bringing something to the festival!”
“I’m on it right now, ma!” You shout, pushing up your sleeves as you begin to roll.
It’s not as if the task is difficult, only mindless, the kind of busy-work that forces your mind and eyes to wander. Wander to the open window above the sink, right into the neighboring field of crops. Right where your next-door neighbor and friend, Gavin, is tilling the field.
Frankly, this shouldn’t be an issue. A couple of years ago, when you were saddled with this exact task on this exact day, you’d send Gavin a wave and be on your merry way. Maybe the two of you would shout a couple sentences to each other, making small talk about tonight, but that was it.
But now, your brain willingly deep fries itself with every glance, every peak, out onto his family’s property.
Although the winter has brought some chill, farming is still backbreaking work, one that leaves Gavin slicked with sweat and giving the occasional grunt as he digs in a shovel or hoe. His top button is undone, revealing a toned, chestnut fur-covered chest. And those pants, my god those pants, seemed to hug every perfect curve of his thick legs and butt, his long tail swaying back and forth as he worked. Every noise he makes sends a shiver down your spine.
To say Gavin underwent a “growth spurt” in the past year would be an understatement by a landslide. At only 23, he now stood over two heads above you, with a giant set of horns and a barrel-like chest. His thighs easily doubled the size of yours and his arms looked like they could rip a lumber log right in half.
Your hands continue to roll nothing but air as you find yourself lost in the contours of his muscular back, which push and pull under his shirt, giving a good picture of what lies behind the fabric. He pauses, straightening his posture and letting out a long sigh as he stretches his back, wiping a bit of sweat off his brow. You think there might be drool coming out of your mouth, a pool of saliva you nearly choke on when he whips around, looking right at you.
As if nothing has changed, Gavin sends you a big smile, waving enthusiastically. You stick up a flour-covered hand and try to look composed.
Gavin perks up, making a rolling motion with his hands and mouthing “Croissants?”
You nod, giving him a thumbs up.
He cheers silently, clenching his fist like you just told him he won the lottery. Your family makes these croissants every year, but every year Gavin acts like it’s the greatest surprise of the season. It’s very sweet, like everything else about him.
Gavin gives you another smile and goes back to working, leaving you to pine all by yourself. You force yourself to focus on the task at hand, but even when he finishes and heads back inside, Gavin still works inside your brain.
-----------
Despite the small size of your town, the New Year’s fireworks never fail to be bigger and better than ever. It’s the one night of the year every dad is allowed to go hog wild, setting off every new, home-made firework-abomination they’ve cooked up during the holidays. But as the fireworks fire off, the blasts resonating through the shaky barn walls and their glow flashing in between the wooden boards, all you can focus is on Gavin. Gavin whose hand is on the small of your back, whose muzzle is frantically planting kisses down your neck, and whose chest you’re gripping onto for dear life as your bodies grind against each other. His hot breath sends shivers down your spine as you press your hips even closer into his, electricity weakening your news as a tell-tale bulge presses against your crotch.
With your mind hazy, you barely remember how you got here. You weren’t quite crotchety enough for your parents and a little too boring for your younger siblings, so you and Gavin often drifted away and hung out together on the New Year’s Festival. The night had been going normal, taking swigs of a spiked apple cider and wandering around the fairgrounds, although you were dressed a little nicer than usual, when Gavin lamented about having no one to kiss at midnight. A little bit of alcohol, a flirty remark from you, and things seemed to spiral from there. In no time at all the two of you had run over to his family’s barn, minds locked in a singular haze of passion.
But the why and the how mattered very little to you at the moment, especially with Gavin’s left palm slowly sneaking it’s way down to your butt, hovering over your backside hesitantly. You lean into Gavin for another kiss and grab his wrist, slapping it down on your butt and urging him to squeeze.
Even through your jeans, Gavin’s hands are rough. His fingertips just barely touch your thigh as he squeezes your cheek once more, his palm large enough to easily grab most of your ass. Gavin continues to knead until his knees hit the back of a huge hay bale, causing him to throw one of his hands back to steady himself.
It’s only when sitting that you and Gavin are face-to-face, his large thighs stretching out his work pants as you slot yourself in between and run your hands up the denim. But Gavin wastes no time in picking you up by the back of your legs and plopping you onto his lap. You rush to find his lips again, meeting Gavin halfway as you sloppily paw at his shirt, wrapping your arms around his thick neck, desperate for the feeling of his fur and muscle under your fingers.
Mind still foggy, you work up the resolve to pull away and begin tugging at the bottom of your dress shirt, untucking it from your pants and pulling it up, right until-
“Oh, shit, ____, uhm….”
You pause, peaking your head out of your shirt collar, arms still raised. Gavin looks at you, rays of moonlight catching off his horns as he breathes heavily, trying to find the words. His eyes dart from your face, your body, to somewhere in the distance as he fidgets. You slowly pull your shirt down, pressing a hand against his cheek. “Is everything alright? We can stop if you-”
“No! No, I don’t want to stop. Definitely not. I mean, uh, if you want to stop we can, I just-”
You thumb brushes over Gavin’s cheekbones, reaching up your forefinger to sweep away the stray hairs that had fallen over his eyes. This time of year his coat is extra thick, Gavin’s hair a curly mess of locks that fall just past his snout. You could never decide which look you prefer; When he pulls his hair up into a work-bun, or when he lets it messily hang over his shoulders. But in this moment, all you can focus on are Gavin’s beautiful brown eyes, even as he avoids your gaze.
“I’ve never done this before.”
Gavin clenches his eyes shut, wincing for an oncoming reaction.
“...Oh.” You mutter, blinking quickly as you mull over this revelation. Gavin looks at you from under his eyebrows, a strong blush traveling up his neck and onto his cheeks. “Not anything? With anyone?” Gavin shakes his head. His hands play with a stray piece of hay, betraying his anxiety.
You’re shocked, Gavin is one of the most handsome bachelors in town, one you’ve been pining after for months now, but try not to let it show. While you yourself aren’t necessarily a connoisseur of sex, you’ve still had your fair share of encounters, even in your small hometown.
You quickly realize you’ve left Gavin alone with his thoughts for a solid 30 seconds, right after he told you something he is clearly nervous about. Shaking yourself out of your stupor, you straighten your posture and stand up. Gavin’s eyes follow you, small hints of fear and anxiety within them. You lean down and give him a long kiss on the lips, before pulling away and whispering in his ear.
“I want to make you feel good. Would that be okay?”
Gavin gulps, nodding against you, fingers digging into your blouse as you press another kiss behind his ear. Then on his jaw, and slowly move down his neck, leaving a trail of affection until you hit his collarbone.
You pull away and Gavin moves to sit up, but you press a solid hand on his chest and press him back down, sliding down his thighs and onto your knees. Gavin gulps as your hand travels down his abdomen, fingers dancing on his happy trail before lightly tracing over his growing hard-on. Once you’ve reached his crotch, you take your time squeezing and admiring Gavins muscular quads, not bothering to hide how aroused he’s made you. You want him to know how hot he is, how desperately you want to ravish him, have him ravish you.
Your eyes focus on his bulge, licking your lips as you slowly tip-toe your fingers to his zipper.
“If you need to stop, let me know okay? Seriously, I want you to feel comfortable.”
Gavin shakily nods, letting out a surprised groan as you palm his cock through the denim. He throws his head back as you slowly undo the zipper with one hand, the other continuing to tease and rub his dick as his boxer briefs are revealed. You slowly lean down and press a kiss to his groin, forcing another low moan out of him. Behind him, you hear the flicks of his tail against the hail bale as you give his dick another kiss. With slow movements, you finally pull on his underwear down to the top of his thighs, revealing his cock.
You had expected Gavin to be….well-endowed. But my god, nothing could compare to seeing it in person. It’s long, thick, the tip of it hitting just underneath his belly button as it presses up and out of his boxers. His balls are also large, carrying a familiar sweaty musk from long days of farmwork. Saliva begins pooling in your mouth.
Apparently you got lost in your own thoughts, staring at his cock and pondering in what way it could fit in any part of you, as Gavin sucks in a deep breath and asks,
“Is it-Are you good?” His whispers, voice trembling with pent-up pleasure. You give a wordless nod, snapping yourself out of your own self-consciousness and lock eyes with Gavin. He may have the dick of a sex-god, but this was still his first time. You send him a reassuring smile.
“Y-yeah, I’m good. Your cock is really nice.” Gavin’s whole face flushes an even darker shade, his ears twitching and his tail flicking with embarrassment.
“R-really? U-uhm, thanks. I guess I never-hngh!” Gavin’s front lurches, his throat tripping on coherent sentences as you press a kiss to the base of his cock, hand’s running up to his inner thighs. You pull back, but only an inch.
“Was that okay?”
“Y-yes, yes, yeah that was-uhng-that was good.” Gavin stammers, throwing a hand through his long hair. It brings a small smile to your face. “C-could you do it again?”
You nod once more, pressing a longer, slower kiss to Gavin’s cock. A hot stream of air pushes out of his nose and he stutters a low ‘fuck’ as you slowly begin to lick up the underside of his dick. One of your hands moves from massaging his legs to tentatively fondle his balls. In your periphery you can see his big hands clench around the hay, another deep moan coming from his chest. Your fingertips barely touch around the circumference, a bolt of heat shooting down your abdomen as you feel the size of him in your hand. A myriad of dirty images, fantasies and positions fly through your mind, but you steady yourself and focus on the task at hand.
Gavin’s breath steadily increases as you continue to jerk him off, lightly suck at his head and play with his balls. He keens and whines when you give him a particularly hard squeeze or suck, leaning his weight back on one elbow and eyeing you in between his messy hair.
“Shit, s-shit, that feels so good. Right there, please.” Gavin begs, hands struggling to find purchase on the bale below him as you continue to tease.
You finally take the leap, lifting yourself up on your knees, and take about 2 inches of him into your mouth. Your decision is immediately rewarded with Gavin’s loud, shocked moan, catching in his throat as his legs tense up. He mutters a curse under his breath and you start bobbing up and down, slowly working your way down the many inches of his long dick. Your hand movements grow sloppy as you focus more and more on breathing through your nose and sucking in your cheeks, but Gavin doesn’t seem to mind. His adorable whimpers have raised in pitch, rowdier moans breaking in between as your tongue swirls around his shaft. You can feel the way he struggles to think of what to do with his hands, mind warped by new sensations, so you grab one of his palms and place it on the back of your neck. Gavin instinctively tangles his fingers through your hair, right before lightening his grip and avoiding pushing you to choke on his cock. You struggle down another half-inch anyway, forcing his lower-body to jolt and his hands to tighten.
For a virgin, he has rather impressive stamina, the back of your throat beginning to tire after several minutes of the intense blowjob. But Gavin’s moans and tiny pleas for “More, more, more” are music to your ears, time passing like nothing.
In your hand, you feel his balls tighten, his thighs tensing around you as his tail flickers uncontrollably.
“Oh fuck, oh shit. ____, I’m close, I’m so close.” Gavin keenes, his hips stuttering up and into your mouth as you pick up your pace. Gavin continues to stutter and whine, peppering you with compliments as his legs quiver with an impending orgasm. But at the last second, you detach with a sloppy pop, giving a light kiss to his pre-cum soaked head. Gavin’s eyes jolt open, losing his grip on your scalp as his chest heaves up and down.
“W-what-”
“You want to come down my throat, big boy?” You murmur, squeezing the base of his cock in a vice grip. Gavin yelps, hips humping into yours. “You want me to swallow a mouthful? Feel my throat around your cock as you cum?” You suck on one of his balls and Gavin’s moan is downright musical. Gavin frantically shakes his head up and down. “Uh-uh, sweetie. I want to hear you.”
You don’t know where this wave of confidence is coming from, perhaps you yourself are discovering something new tonight as well. But as Gavin looks at you, cheeks dark with embarrassment and eyes desperate for you and only you, it feels as if a spark has set off a stick of dynamite in your belly. Gavin pushes back his hair, sucking in another long breath, right before he says.
“P-please, I want to come in your mouth. ____, I need your mouth on my cock, please.”
Your smirk, immediately latching back onto his cock and quickly deepthroating him. Gavin’s hand moves on its own and presses you down even farther, tears peaking at the edge of your eyes as he presses against your gag reflex. Your hand continues it’s ministrations with his balls as you suck up and down. Gavin lets his moans out, no longer bothering to suppress them in his chest as his lower body tenses once more.
“Sh-shit! S-shit, I’m coming, I’m coming, ____ I’m comi-ing!”
Like a tidal wave, Gavin orgasms, his first shot nearly causing you to choke as it hits the back of your throat.
Wow, I didn’t even think it was possible to cum this much.
You lock your lips around his dick as he continues to climax, filling up your mouth with his seed as he throws his body back onto the hay bale. When you finally pull off, a long stream of cum leaks down the side of your mouth, forcing you to swallow as soon as you can. With a silent and satisfactory “Aaah~”, you wipe at your chin.
Gavin lays, exhausted, on the bale. His tail weakly sways back and forth under him, his sweaty fur sticking out from his few top undone buttons. You let yourself rest back on your thighs, a little sweaty yourself, admiring your handiwork.
“That feel good?”
Gavin nods, a mindless smile on his face as he catches his breath. You chuckle at his blissed expression, giving him a solid pat on the calf.
Using his thick thighs as leverage, you push yourself up, leaning over his large form and giving him a small peck on the cheek. Gavin’s smile grows even wider and he gives you a kiss of your own, his hand lazily patting your lower back.
“Well,” You rub his chest fur, “I’m happy I could give you your first blowjob, big guy.”
You move to push yourself away, but Gavin holds you still, his one hand easily keeping you in place as he presses himself back up and onto his elbows. He pecks another kiss on your cheek.
“I’m happy too. You were really, really amazing.”
“I try my best.” Gavin chuckles, thumb still lackadaisical brushing up and down your back. “We should probably-”
“Do you-”
The two of you pause, each trying to let the other one speak their piece.You both laugh, but then you relent and let Gavin go first. His face fills with blush once more, adjusting himself and sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck as he tries to find the right way to speak.
“It’s just….that was a pretty fantastic first blowjob. And handjob, technically. Like, really great.” Gavin pauses, eyes darting from you to the ground. “I appreciate it so, so much. I was thinking that you could, uhm, maybe teach me how to-” The words stumble out of Gavin’s mouth, his hand slightly fidgeting with the back of your shirt, “Maybe you could teach me how to make you feel good? B-but only if you want to.”
You pause, slightly shocked, until you feel that tightening heat firing up in your belly, a slight tremor of excitement shaking down your limbs. You nod, just a tiny bit breathless.
“Y-yes, I would love that, Gavin.”
With a smirk, Gavin sweeps you up, wrapping your legs around his waist as he holds onto your thighs, laying a kiss on your pulse point.
What a way to spend the new year.

consider this: felix in lingerie
the problem with Felix in lingerie is that i AM going to tear it off of him in literally 0.5 seconds. but god, would he look gorgeous for the 0.5 second it manages to survive.
i really wanna put him in a lacy little playsuit, because he’d just look fucking gorgeous in one, but i think Felix would lean more towards bralettes and boyshorts, with maybe a thong once in a while when he wants to be a lil cheeky. there's definitely gonna be a lot of delicate and sheer material, because he likes being pretty and soft, and also so you can see the way his nipples get hard and his cock plumps up with blood as he fidgets and squirms under your gaze.
Felix probably also really likes cute, girlish prints, stuff like strawberries and bunnies and stars splashed across ruffled cotton panties. for sure has a pair of super low-rise blue and white striped panties, like the exact pair schoolgirls in hentai always get drawn in. (this boy is a sweet, soft baby, but also a huge pervert who wants to be taken advantage of, and he just wants to signal that in any way he can 🥺)
he's also definitely got a pair of those thigh highs with the toe beans on them—sheer white with squishy pink paw pads, and a nice little ruffly lace border digging into the tops of his thighs. (seriously, Felix saw those and immediately had to jerk off, and didn't realize until after he was finished that he wasn’t sure if he was thinking about fucking someone who was wearing them or being fucked while he wore them 🧍🏽)
after shopping around for entirely too long, i think if i was gonna pick a specific set to dress him up in, the Layla triangle bra and Brigitta thong from La Perla are what i'd go with. he'd look so sweet and delicate and ready to be deflied in white lace.🥰
just imagine his nipples peeking through the sheer material of the bra, so easy to pinch and play with through the cups. that pretty band of lace decorating his hips while absolutely nothing else is covered up—his tiny squidgy ass fully out and ready for you to spank and spread open, to taste and finger and fuck, while his precious little cock is only just barely contained by that flimsy scrap of tulle, a dark patch of precum already spreading across the front. 🤤
#definitely DON'T have a fic about catching Lixie trying on your underwear half outlined in my drafts now👀#felix smut#stray kids smut#skz thirst#felix thirst#mail corner 📬#skz🔪

Warnings: Creepy misogynistic bullshit. But also the fluffiest of fluff!
Words: 2,407
Smutty Part 2 - HERE
The smell of whiskey breath ghosting over your face made your stomach turn. You were just trying to have a quiet drink at the ‘Duck Tape’ after a long day at work and all of a sudden you were having your evening ruined by some overbearing guy with half a bottle of dutch courage behind him. “Seriously, I’m okay thank you” you said politely, trying to catch the eye of anyone who could get this guy off you. You were not one to be polite to guys that harass you usually but something about this guy’s overly aggressive lean towards you had put you on edge. All sorts of images and scenarios were flashing through your mind and your heart was starting to hammer in your chest. But just like always, just like you were taught from the time you can walk, you played it off by smiling sweetly and being as polite as possible. Annoyingly you’d chosen to sit in the back corner of the bar tonight so you had nowhere to go but past him. Your dress was high up on your thigh and you tried, subtly, to pull it down. “Nah, come on sweetheart” he said with a smirk, flicking your long hair off your shoulder dragging his fingers purposely along your skin as he does it “Let me buy you a drink” You went to speak again, hoping to brush him off but the panic in you was rising. The feeling of his skin on yours had triggered something within you, you fidgeted your hands over each other on the bar top to stop them trembling. You looked up at him, mustering up that fake sweet smile again, turning to grab your jacket to leave – figuring this was the only way to get him to leave you alone – before you heard someone else speak.
“I’m goin’ to have to ask you to leave” you heard the deep drawl before you looked up. Clyde Logan was sidling his way across to where you were sat in the corner, the light of the bar was behind him like an aura. Your lumbering guardian angel. Honestly you’d never paid too much attention to him, he was just… Clyde. He’d been around forever except for when you’d returned from college and found out he was off in Iraq. Clyde was just the big grumpy bartender who made a mean vodka cranberry for you every Friday night; the same grumpy bartender who always slipped in an extra lime because he knew you liked it. You gave him a relieved smile as you caught his eye; he instantly turned his attention back to the guy leaning against you as he piped up once more. “Oh come on Clyde, I was only havin’ a bit of fun” he slurred, giving him a hacking laugh before slipping his hand up your arm and onto your shoulder. You instantly tensed up, skin crawling as you could feel the sweat drip from his forehead on your bare shoulder as he propped himself against you. “Oh I’m sure ya are. But see, I don’t think she finds it very fun do you darlin’?” Clyde said looking at you out the corner of his eye and you shook your head. “Now I’m asking ya to leave cause you’re making my customers uncomfortable. I’m damn sure this woman, nice as she is, doesn’t want your hands all over her now does she?” You shook your head again and the guy looked at you, having the audacity to scoff in offense at your response before turning back to Clyde with a grin. But Clyde kept talking “Her shakin’ her head there? That’s her sayin’ no. Got that? So I’m goin’ to ask you one more time to get off her. Look at her… sweet like a little bird she is, she don’t need your big greasy paws all over her like that” The drunk guy sneered and jostled your shoulders in a jovial way, trying to show Clyde how you were at ease you supposed, and you felt his metal watch strap nick your skin at the back of your neck and you hissed softly at the pain. There was a sudden thud and you looked down; Clyde had grabbed the guy’s free arm that was resting on the bar with his flesh hand. He gave it a sudden tug and the guy gave a high-pitched yelp as he was pulled closer to Clyde and off you. “I said… I’m goin’ to have to ask you to leave” Clyde repeated. You knew sweet, quiet Clyde could have a temper when he needed one; you’d seen him strong-arm a few guys out on their asses a few times over the years. You’d always quietly admired how sturdy and wide his body looked, comfortable and yet solid. So when he did things like that you’d silently sip your drink, pretending you weren’t watching his bicep bulge under his long-sleeved shirt as he grabbed the guy by the scruff of the neck or twist their arm behind their back and haul them out the bar. Another bar patron, an older guy, was walking past this little scene and shot the drunk guy a knowing look before giving his input “Now Billy! Logan here’s got two tours under his belt. Show the guy some respect. Make yourself scarce, come on” Clyde shoo’d this new guy off with a tilt of his head and the guy threw his hands up in surrender before walking away. Billy let out another hacking laugh that made you flinch slightly in your seat, it was full of contempt and far too much confidence for a man in his position “What do you think ya goin’ to do Logan? One arm freak ain’t gunna do nothin’ to me!” “I think you’ll find that I still have my arm, just my forearm and hand that’s missin’. I still got enough to break this arm of yours in three places if you don’t leave this beautiful young lady alone” “Oh I see, Little Logan got a crush” Billy grinned cockily at him, spittle was flying out of his mouth as he slurred and it made you cringe as you saw it landing on Clyde’s dark blue shirt. You started to panic again, you didn’t know what Clyde was going to do next and you shot him a look. You didn’t want him to get himself in trouble for you and after everything that had had happened at the speedway you worried that one little thing would get the cops on
his ass again. He caught your panicked expression and gave you a contemplative pout before turning his head back to Billy. He dragged Billy a little closer so he was bent uncomfortably; you could see his belt cutting deep into his side, pressed into him by the wood of the bar. He was flinching and groaning in Clydes strong grasp, when Clyde spoke he was close to his face and his voice was a low, slow and dangerously calm growl “Now somethin’ tell me this precious, good woman here wants me to spare you the pain I was plannin’ on givin’ ya, kind as she is. So I’m goin’ to let you go but if I ever see you so much as look at her again I’ll show you what two tours in Iraq teaches ya. Got it?” You watched as Billy quickly gathered up his jacket that was hanging haphazardly from the chair he had been sitting on and skitter out the bar like a dog with its tail between its legs. Clyde gave you a pouty but satisfied nod before calmly going back to washing glasses.
------------------------------------------------------
The bar was closing in around an hour so Clyde made you another drink, extra lime as always, to steel your nerves. As he walked around, picking up after people and saying goodnight to the stragglers he kept a close eye on you. Always looking back over his shoulder to where you were sat. You smiled every time he looked at you, several times you thought about getting up to leave for the night but he always caught your eye and something in his look made you sip your drink a little slower. Maybe you should stick around.
“He didn’t hurt you or nothing did he?” Clyde said in a low voice so the last people that were leaving couldn’t hear him. Part of you wondered if he was embarrassed to be helping you but then you realised, as he turned his body to literally shield you from the gaze of the rest of the patrons in the bar, he was protecting your privacy. “No Clyde, I’m fine thank you” you smiled, brushing your dress down awkwardly trying to ease the tension. Clyde was a man of few words usually but he made up for it in the intensity of his stare and right now that stare was focussed purely on you. His eyes roamed over you and it made a heat rise up on the back of your neck. He made a grunting noise, almost to himself, and he leaned over the bar to fetch a napkin. He turned the tap on that was over the small bar sink and dipped the napkin under the running water. You gave him a look, raising your eyebrow in question and he nodded to you shoulder. You looked down and noticed a small trail of dried blood running down your shoulder from where the guy had cut you with his watch. “Can I touch ya? Is that okay?” he asked, eyes soft and concerned as he studied you. You nodded shyly and he leant forward and wiped the napkin over your skin gently. You watched his hand carefully, the huge size of it compared to your arm making you bite back a giggle. The cold of his horseshoe ring brushing lightly against your skin made you break into goosebumps. He dabbed and patted to make sure he got it all wiped away “There ya go, all cleaned up” He gave your arm a stroke with his thick knuckles, like he was doubly making sure you were all squared away. Clyde Logan didn’t smile very much, you always thought his signature grumpy pout was actually quite endearing, but in this moment as you gazed up at him he gave you the smallest, most tender smile and you couldn’t help but grin back at him. “You don’t have to take care of me you know?” you whispered, he shook his head as he hopped up on the bar and swung himself back over. “Well of course I do, pretty little thing like you shouldn’t have to deal with assholes like that!” You gave him a small push to his chest that barely moved him “You stop that!” you laughed, he chuckled as you dipped your head down, letting your hair hide the growing blush on your cheeks. “I only speak the truth darlin’” he said turning to wander over to the cash register “Give me 2 minutes to check todays takins’ and I’ll drive ya home” You scoffed and dropped off your high bar stool onto your feet “You really don’t need to do that, I’m sure that guy is long gone” “Well I can’t just let ya go home on your on now can I? What kind of gentleman would I be if I did that?” he said, you swear you saw him smirk to himself and he pushed his hip into the cash register to close it. He turned to you, swinging his jacket off the hook on the wall and around his shoulders. “Oh Clyde, you’re sweet but I’ll be okay” You stepped forward as you spoke and helped him pull his jacket over his prosthetic arm “Really! I don’t live too far, you know that! It’s only a mile round the corner I can walk it” You flushed at his forwardness and unexpected level of care he was showing you. The heat was rising up on the fact of your neck again and you couldn’t quite decide if it was embarrassment or something a little more intimate. “Nonsense, I won’t hear another word on the matter” he shot you another smile; you quite liked this more relaxed Clyde. There was something about that shy smile that made you accept his offer with a small nod. “Perfect. Let me grab my keys and I’ll drive ya”
------------------------------------------------------
You hopped down out of his truck as he opened the passenger door for you, which he had insisted on doing; he’d even held out his prosthetic arm for you to use to steady yourself as you dropped unsteadily onto your driveway. You’d thanked him quietly and he’d responded “Nothing but the best for the princess” making you giggle and elbow his side jokingly. You both wandered down the driveway in comfortable silence, nothing but crickets and the crunch of gravel beneath both your shoes.
“Safe and sound now aren’t ya” he said, tapping your front door absentmindedly with his knuckle, watching you wrestle your keys out of your bag. You chuckled and nodded, before you could give yourself a second to overthink it you pitched up on your tip toes, pulling him down slightly with your a small hand on his wide shoulder, and placed a timid kiss to his cheek. “Thank you Clyde” you whispered. You giggled slightly as a noticeable pink blush bloomed across his cheeks and he shook his head and stuttered “N-no thanks necessary sweetheart”
You put your key in the lock and he turned to leave with a courteous nod goodnight. As you pushed open the door breathing out a tightly held in sigh, suddenly thankful to be in the comfort of your own home, you heard him say your name. You spun to see him a few feet away from you, rocking on his heels slightly “Come by the bar tomorrow night? I’ll make you another one of those cranberry drinks you like and…I’d errr… I’d love to see ya”
Now it was your turn to blush, you hoped he couldn’t see it in the shadow of your doorway
“I’d love too. See you then” you replied, giving him a small wave before going inside.
Maybe you should have paid more attention to the big grumpy bear behind the bar because it turns out, he’s rather sweet.

Silver and Steel
Bargaining with Beskar, Chapter 2 (The Mandalorian x f!reader)
It was then you noticed the open wall next to you. The steel panel was slid open to reveal a vault packed corner to corner with more firepower than you had ever seen in one place. Your eyes roamed from blaster to rifle to flamethrower, noticing that not all of them were made for five fingered hands. This wasn't just an armory, it was a trophy case.

"Med pack... junk....junk....spotchka?....is that all you've got?"
You were bent over a deep supply crate, your legs barely touching the ground while you dug through what you had hoped would be the food stock. There were several banged up tins of rations and a handful of miscellaneous junk, but nothing that looked real food. You were clean and dry after your shower, but the energy that had been spent in this very supply room just an hour or so earlier had to be replenished. "Where’s the rest of it?"
The silence coming from the cockpit was expected, but still frustrating. With a huff you grabbed two food tins and made your way through the old ship towards the ladder. At the top though a small antechamber you found your new comrade seated in the pilot chair, fussing with the buttons on the console. On either side and slightly behind his chair were two other passenger seats, though the one on his left was missing a good deal of padding. The cockpit was poorly lit save for the lighted console and the dusty starlight overhead. Though you were in the air, you could tell you were still on Tatooine. Hooray. Why are we still here? The great Dune Sea stretched out on all sides, sparsely dotted with sand people villages, but you couldn’t see any of the large space ports such as Mos Eisley or Mos Espa. In the ships’ darkness you couldn't tell what the lumpy thing was in the other chair, probably blankets or laundry. You went to toss it off the seat when a pair of huge black orbs peeped out from the heap of fabric.
"The fuck is THAT?!" You rocketed backwards, dropping the food tins in the process. The bug eyed creature made a soft cooing noise and lifted the rest of the blanket off itself, allowing two gigantic green ears to pop into view. It didn't look like a threat, in fact it looked kinda cute, but you knew it could still be dangerous. A pair of stubby three-fingered hands made grabby motions at you, the little creature giggling at your bewildered face. " Where'd you find this thing, is it some kind of pet?"
"He's not a pet." Finished fiddling with the console, Mando turned in his chair to readjust the blanket that had slumped off of the small beastie. It squealed happily and wiggled in its comfy cocoon before noticing the food tins that were still on the floor. He pointed the tiniest claw at them and chirped at you, demanding to be fed. "You'd better give him one of those before he gets mad."
It took you a moment to process what he said before scooping one of the tins off the floor, peeling back the lid and placing the dish in the seat next to the little thing. He greedily scooped the mystery mash into his tiny toothy mouth, gibbering between bites. You picked the remaining tin off the floor and leaned against the door frame, watching it happily chow down.
"If it's not a pet then what is it?"
"He's my..." the Mandalorian paused, fishing for the right words to say, "...he is my child."
That was not at all the answer you expected, if he had said emotional support gremlin you would have been less confused. The baby was still making a mess of his dinner, almost dropping his plate before Mando snatched it and set it carefully back in his lap. You had seen first hand that there was a human under all that metal plating, and your tired brain fizzled trying to make the connection between the two very different beings. Mando could tell by your puzzled face that he had some explaining to do.
He told you the tale of how he had been charged to bring the baby in as a high credit bounty, but after he used the reward to get new armor he went back and stole the child away from its captors. He talked about the Mandalorian concept of a 'foundling' and that he himself was one too. At some point you had popped your food tin open and started eating, though you were so captivated by his story that you couldn't remember doing so. When he'd finished you set your empty dish on the busted chair and gently held your hand out for the child to grab with one mush covered paw, who babbled excitedly at his new friend.
Behind you his parental guardian was rigid, ready to take you out if you made one wrong move against his precious cargo. Though he had been the one to steal you away and forgo freezing you in carbonite he still didn’t exactly trust you, your reputation as a hunter-killer was what had driven your bounty so high. He knew you were disarmed, but what else could you be capable of? However, you weren't paying mama-hen Mando any mind. Instead you let the baby play with your hand a bit before he returned to his food. You decided that the only place left to sit was on the floor. Squished into the tiny space between the passenger and pilot seats was cramped, but it gave you a fantastic view out the rounded transperisteel window into the vastness of the night sky.
“Your story sounds awful familiar.” You turned your attention to the metal clad man, watching him fidget with the steering controls. “You abandoned a guild reward for anothers wellbeing, like I did. Someone that didn’t deserve to be dragged back in cuffs. Is that why you picked up the puck on me? Some kind of kindred spirit something or other?”
“We’re nothing alike.” He was watching out the window, focused on flying the ship to unknown destinations, but he was bouncing the leg farthest away from you. So when the cogwheels turn in your head, the machine moves somewhere else. If you hadn’t experienced his human body first hand you could have easily convinced yourself he was a droid.
“Now that’s not true. You told the guild to get fucked because your moral compass was pointing the other way. I didn't just let that quarry go y'know? It was more than that. There was... there was someone she had to get back to. And the New Republic was just gonna lock her ass up and for what? It wasn't right." You remembered that Togruta woman, pointing a blaster at you with tears in her eyes and her belly swollen with a child that did not belong to the man she was being forced to marry. A few thousand credits weren’t worth another child being made an orphan, and you gave her your ship to escape in while you led hunters on a wild-bantha chase away from her. You knew it drove the guild insane but you wouldn’t have it any other way. A tiny green foot poked itself out from under the blankets by your head, bringing you out of your reverie. On reflex you tucked it back into the safety of his blankies.
Though you thankfully didn’t remember much of your early childhood, you knew you had come from Corellia. You didn’t know if you had parents or siblings, but there had been many other young street urchins in your alley behind the shipyard, and all you had then were each other. You never planned on having any kids yourself, but they were still something to be protected. At all costs, if necessary. “I’m guessing this little dude is happy with that decision.”
Mando had begun to take the ship closer to the ground, it was almost totally dark outside but you could see on the radar there was a large mountainous formation up ahead. Carefully, he landed the beat up craft on a sturdy outcropping of rocks, kicking up whirlwinds of dust and sand. Far out over the sand you could see a collection of lumpy looking ruins that were slowly succumbing to the march of the dunes. You guessed this was where your quarry was hiding out.
The baby was starting to get sleepy, his huge eyes disappearing slowly as the weight of his eyelids became too much. His little head rolled forward, threatening to toss him off his seat. Your big mean bounty hunter heart couldn’t take it, so you scrambled to your feet and scooped the baby up in your arms, sitting down in his seat to get him situated in your lap. He fussed and squirmed a bit, but you had learned a no-fail trick from the Corellian ship builders that would often help to sneak orphaned children onto their ships and off that skughole of a planet towards a better life. Many years ago they had done the same for you.
“Oh, I have sailed the midnight sea from Hoth to Arvala-5.
Seen the Cloudshape Falls of Alderaan, met rocks that were alive.
But soon I came to realize as world to world I roamed,
That nowhere in the galaxy could really be my home.”
The songs you knew were often sang by whole crews of starship sailors, loud enough to shake their durasteel walls, but you dropped your voice low and soft to turn the star-shanty into a lullaby. The baby was watching you with glittering eyes, he had stopped his wiggling and curled up tightly against your chest.
“So call the navigator, set the course and go!
We've stars and planets to explore, my wild heart tells me so.
Beneath the metal decking I can hear the engine sigh
And all I need is a mighty ship and a staaaa-aarr to guide her by”
A tiny yawn betrayed his wondrous eyes, and he gave up and closed them shut, rubbing his little hands on his face. You lowered your voice to almost a whisper.
“I've seen a million beauties and I've known a million fears,
And life is what I've found between the laughter and the tears.
Still I will sail the last frontier through worlds both tame and wild,
And marvel at their strangeness with the wonder of a child”
Soft snores were your only applause, the baby having drifted off mid stanza. You hummed a few more lines of the song to be sure he was asleep. The cockpit was as dark as the surrounding sky, but the glint of silver caught your attention. Starlight reflected off the beskar plates in a way that made the black of his visor seem darker than the heart of a collapsed star, and just as deadly. The Mandalorian was watching you intently, completely motionless.
The precious moment with the baby had made you very forgetful of the dangerous situation you were actually in. You had been captured, you were this man’s prisoner and yet here you were all cozy in the chair with his adopted son in your lap. You glared back at him, matching his fierce gaze when the little green bundle moved to get more comfortable, one tiny hand catching claws in the top you were wearing; a tunic that did not belong to you.
“Here, you take him then.” Your voice was hushed so as not to wake the child, and you raised him up gently to try and unhook him from your shirt. Immediately there were two gloved hands coming to lift the baby off of your lap. He was a monolith of leather and metal, but the way he pulled his son in close was so gentle that all the ferocity of his profession dissipated like mist. Mando carefully tucked the blanket under the sleeping little baby and wrapped him up tight before slowly turning away from you and the flight deck to head down the ladder in total silence, leaving you alone in the dark.
You watched him go, the top of his shiny silver head disappearing into the floor. Without the sounds of life in the cockpit the quiet of the night weighed heavy on your ears. He still hadn’t told you why he had kept you out of the carbonite, all you had done was let him use you as his personal play-thing... and maybe murder off some of his bounty hunting competition, but that wasn’t much to go off of. You had done worse for much less. Put your skills to better use, that’s what he had said. Absently you toyed with the end of your sleeve, no, not your sleeve. His sleeve.
That was another thing, what reason did he have to show you hospitality when his first interaction with you had been so violent? Binding you and marching your ass through the desert after he had fucking shot you. Your escape plan had almost worked, ha! All you would’ve had to do is tire him out and run but that had backfired entirely. The apex of your thighs still thrummed with sensation, warm and blissful. Though you’d had lovers in the past you usually didn’t still feel them so deeply afterwards. The smell of the fresher soap still clung to your body and clothes. Clutching at the collar of your sweater you pulled it to your face and breathed deep, letting the heady scent of it fill your lungs.
“Let’s go. We have work to do.” The modulated voice coming from the ladder startled you from your guilty indulgence and sprang you to your feet, but the source of the voice was already back down the ladder. You sheepishly followed suit.
“You plan on telling me what we’re up to exactly?” Down below the Mandalorian was loading himself with ammunition, each and every slot on his many bandoliers was packed to the brim with charges. His pulse rifle was slung over one shoulder, clanking up against a new piece of equipment you hadn’t seen before. Some kind of jet pack maybe.
“I have two bounties to catch on Tatooine. One of them conveniently fell into a sarlacc pit. The other one's hiding out down there." A bounty fob blinked red in his hand; quick flashes indicated that the target was close by. “If you help me with this, you’re off the hook. I’ll tell Karga you’re dead and the guild will stop sending hunters after you. But-” He turned to face you, he was holding your beat-up old back pack by one ratty leather strap. "If for one second I think you'll turn against me, I'll take the half credits for your corpse."
"You're one to talk!" You hissed, storming up to the gunslinger with the ferocity of a lothcat. "You kidnapped me! I didn't ask to be here."
The man in question didn't budge under your verbal assault. "Do we have a deal or not?"
He forced your backpack into your arms to accentuate his point. You ripped it from his grasp and stormed to the other side of the cabin. Everything was still inside; a pack of bacta patches, a few mementos, three busted tracking fobs and some blaster charges. Speaking of blaster-
"Where’s my gun, Mando?" Your question was answered when you turned back to face him. He was holding it by its barrel, extending the grip towards you. You met his visor with contempt, but took the old blaster from him carefully as not to cause a misfire. It would be nice to not be on the run from a guild you had pledged your loyal services to for so many years, that now wanted you delivered back to them in carbonite; and you knew that Karga would trust his favorite hunter. The life of a moisture farmer wasn’t what you dreamed of when you escaped Corellia. Fuck that. "Yeah, it's a deal. One hunt and I'm gone."
If he didn't want you to ogle his wares he should have closed the panel, but instead he joined you at the wall, picking up some extra plasma cartridges and a vibroblade with a curved handle, which he pushed into your hands. "Will that be enough?"
Either you trust me or you don't, pick a side, tin can. You didn't answer him right away, opting to pull a chest holster and another couple of blasters down from the wall. You cinched the holsters tight and tucked a blaster in on either side, slung a disruptor over your back and stuffed the knife in your boot. Once you had everything in place you stuck your fists on your hips like a superhero with a confidant nod. "Yeah, that should be good."
Mando was watching you with intensity, his visor going over each of your weapon choices. He tugged on your holsters’ cross straps to make sure they were secured. You rolled your eyes at him, "I know how to dress myself, sir."
No answer. Typical. He stopped fussing with your straps and turned back to the wall, selecting a heavy multi-ammo bandolier. He stepped closer to you, wrapping both arms around your waist to fit the belt in place on your hips. You tried to convince yourself that it was the cool beskar of his chest plate pressed up against you that sent a shiver down your spine. The physical contact was over as quickly as it had been initiated, and then he was back in the vault fishing out the tiny silver explosives that fit neatly into the circular latches on either side of your belt, handing them to you without a word. Finished with his selection he pressed a few buttons on his vambrace, one to slide the armory shut and another to summon an egg-shaped hover crib to float to his side. Inside its shell the child was sound asleep, a heart-melting smile on his tiny little face. As adorable as he was, you furrowed your brow in confusion.
“Is he coming too?”
“Where I go, he goes.” Mando said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. He strode back to the supply crate you had been digging through earlier and packed a handful of rations into a bag for the journey through the dunes. Cool desert air gusted into the stuffy cabin as the access ramp fell open, and the three of you headed out into the darkness of Tatooine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your dreams were hazy and feverish, shots of blaster fire flickered through the fog from unknown assailants. The smell of blood and blast plasma strong in your nose even while unconscious. You saw the sneering face of a Twi’lek twist in agony and purple blood painted his face before he winked out of existence, replaced in your mindscape with bloody hands. Your hands. Then there was cold beskar on your cheek and strong arms hauling you from the carnage. Harsh wind in your ears and the ground spiraling away beneath you. The howling wind so loud you couldn't hear the questions being barked in your face. Pain, the smell of burning skin, then nothing. You felt objects moving frantically nearby, and something soft and green was pressing into your ribs. Your eyes, heavy as they were, fluttered open to see two huge black orbs staring up from your side where bright red blood was staining the sheets under you. Is that ... my blood?
“Hey green bean...what’cha up to?” Your voice was hoarse and weak, scratching its way out reluctantly past chapped lips. Talking made your head pound, you reached up to cradle your aching skull when two leather tipped hands caught yours and held them steady.
“Easy... Don’t move too much. Please.” Your hands were gently set back down at your sides, shooting pain up your arms. A large black and silver body was hunched beside you, frantically sticking bacta patches to your skin.
“Mand...do? What…what happened?” Your voice was barely a whisper, so faint the recycled air of the cabin threatened to whisk it away.
“You got the bastard, but that fucking Twi' managed to get a shot off in your gut point blank before he went down. You shouldn't have survived that but you did.” Is that a compliment? He was wrapping a long gauze bandage around your arm, fixing the bacta patches in place so they could do their thing. It hurt, but not as much as you thought it should have. Down by your side the child had rolled into you face first, passed out cold next to an emergency cauterizer. Mando nodded at his sleeping son, “And if it wasn’t for him, you’d be dead for sure.”
The baby? How is he involved with this? Thoughts echoed loudly in your skull, and you decided that thinky time was over. The little guy had the right idea, you should sleep now, embrace the comfort of the dark behind your eyes, let it swallow you whole.
“Hey hey hey! Not yet. Stay with me, ok? You need to drink something. Here.” An armored hand slid under your head, urging you to sit up just enough to take a drink out of the metal canteen pressed against your lips. “You need to stay awake, just for a little while.” Cool water graced your dry mouth and dripped onto your chin. Embarrassed by your mess you tried to wipe the droplets away but once again your arms were halted in place. A rough piece of fabric dabbed at your face.
“I’m not a baby, Mando. I can take care of myself.” The creeping sting of blast-burn that still scalded your skin told you that might not be true. The bacta was just starting to seep into your bloodstream, but it would take some time to work its magic.
“I know that. I was with you down there in the fray. A rancor would have been less terrifying to face than you. But right now I need you to hold still.”
Another compliment? Or was that sarcasm? You’re losing your edge, tin man. You tried to roll your eyes but the effort made your head spin; you glanced around the cabin, trying to avoid meeting the visor that was pinning you to the cot. Strewn about the floor of the ship was what was left of your holsters and weapons, splattered with red and purple blood. You couldn’t be sure, but it looked like one belt had been blasted to smithereens, torn strips of leather the only indication it had been there at all. Farther away you saw a dark block in the carbonite freezer. The Twi’lek from your nightmare was frozen solid, though from his limp posture you guessed he had stopped moving long before he was put in the chamber. One of his long lekku had been cut clean off, and even in carbonite you could see the wound was fresh. Something long and curved stuck victoriously out of the center of his chest. Your vibroblade, lodged to the hilt in his sternum.
Mando was still kneeling on the floor by your side, and though you couldn’t see his face his hunched shoulders gave you the feeling that he was distraught. He still had your head resting in his palm, his thumb absently toying with your hair. Maybe it was the bacta running through your system that made you start to feel warm and gooey on the inside, but the sensation of his hand on your scalp felt... nice. Nice to be touched in a way that wasn't just for survival. Though you had already felt his hands on your body this was something else entirely. Sincere. Maybe it was just the first time somebody near you wasn't trying to kill or capture you. You foolish girl, you've already been captured. Are you so lonely that a gentle touch makes you melt? Maybe it's you that's losing your edge.
"You should have left me for dead, cashed in on that half credit reward."
"That is not The Way." His mantra was rehearsed, spoken as easily as he drew breath, but you could hear the exhaustion in his voice.
“Well... thank you for not letting me bleed out.” You could see the top of the baby's green little noggin still curled up against your side, though the part of your ribs he was leaning on didn’t have a single mark. You looked for the blast wound that Mando was supposedly talking about, but aside from a handful of plasma burns your skin was smooth and healthy; the pool of dried blood under you was the only indication anything had been there at all. What kind of mando magic is that? And what did he mean about the child? Your first thought was how disappointed you were there wouldn’t be a good scar. Your second was realizing your top was missing. Shreds of it were still on your shoulders, but the front had been ripped off completely to get to your vanished wounds. Mando seemed like he didn’t even care, he had been so focused on patching you up that the idea of modesty was thrown out the window, but you couldn’t help teasing him. “There’s not a scratch on me, Mando. You just wanted me topless, didn’t you?”
His thumb on your scalp froze, his visor going from your face to your chest with rapid snaps. Without letting your head drop he used his other hand to tear his cloak from his back and throw it over you and the sleeping baby. “Better?”
Party pooper. “Yes, thank you.” Why is he being so nice? He must have ulterior motives, right? Why keep me alive if not to cash in on that bounty? You decided to push his buttons some more. “This bed sucks. Is this why you're so crotchety? Because you sleep on this Maker-forsaken thing? It’s making my back hurt.”
The cot you were on was spartan at best, more of a cloth covered bucket than a bed. It was recessed into the wall opposite of the armory, bits of machinery and droid parts hanging over the space above you. There wasn’t much of a gap between your head and the durasteel plating of the ship’s hull. Your teasing was rewarded with a long, tired sigh. The hand that cushioned your head moved down to your shoulders, pushing on you so that you sat up straight. You scooped the baby off of your side and into your arms, trying to ignore the dried blood from your wounds that stained the sheets before swaddling the sleeping bean in his father’s cloak. The metal man rose from the floor, letting go of you just long enough to remove his cross-belts and unlatch his chest plate, setting them on the floor with a dull thunk. He squished himself between the wall and your back, his dorsal plate scraping loudly without its cape. He scooched one armored leg around you until it was between your hip and the wall on your side, pulling you into his lap and turning his whole body into a pillow, letting your torso rest on his. He was used to the sharp metal bed frame, but that didn’t mean you should be subjected to it.
“Is this ok?”
You could only nod, your cheeks flushing red with a mix of emotions. It was more than ok, his formidable body was warm and comfortable. His arms wrapped around your waist, helping to support not only you but also his foundling. The spice of him was strong now with him on your back, worn leather and metal and that damn fresher soap that was making a fool out of you. Underneath his steady breathing the sound of something rhythmic caught your attention, it was quick and faint, but unmistakably the sound of his heartbeat. His heart is racing. Listen to that engine purr.
Behind you a man with a name you may never know watched your chest slowly rise and fall with each breath, not with lust but something unfamiliar though not unwelcome. He could hear his heartbeat pounding in his ears, whether from the ordeal of keeping you alive or the fact that you were in his arms again he couldn't be sure. He sighed, trying to convince himself to calm down, but the deep breath he took only flooded his senses with the essence of you, threatening to melt the beskar off his head with the heat rushing to his face. He couldn't help the way his fingers traced over your skin, careful not to undo any of the bacta patches. He jumped slightly when your hands found his, but the weight of the child still in your arms made it difficult to reach your fingers. The glove you were touching was suddenly empty, and a bare hand snaked out from under the cloak that kept you modest. With the press of a button the child’s pram floated its way over to you from the supply crates. The baby’s adopted father carefully lifted the sleeping creature off your lap and into his hover crib, another button press on the vambrace and the shield door slid closed.
His hand returned to the safety of the cloak, pulling the other glove off before finding your fingers again. His skin was so warm you couldn't help but imagine his hands somewhere more intimate. Evil, evil bacta... Maybe you wouldn't have to.
"I should thank you properly." It was impossible to hide the tiredness of your voice, but he was close enough you only needed to whisper. His grasp tightened around you, your once plush pillow was now a rigid wall of muscle.
"You should go to sleep." the sound of his baritone words so close to your ear made your skin prickle. Too late for that. Slowly you guided his hand down your belly until your tangled hands bumped into your belt line. A low growl rumbled out of the modulator. “Cyar'ika... you need to rest."
The alien term of endearment made you hum, but you ignored his words of warning and pushed his hand under the tough fabric till his fingertips found your heat, both of you gasping softly at first contact. His free hand fumbled with your button, and after some difficulty you undid it for him along with the zipper. With space to work, with his wrist moved freely, lazily rolling a calloused fingertip against your clit; remembering his lesson from the first time he experienced your body, his touch was light as a feather.
There wasn’t much you could do for him in the position you were in, so you leaned back against him and relaxed, letting him enjoy you at his own pace. The bottom of his helmet was pressed into the crook of your neck, and though it was sharp you could feel something warm and soft underneath it. So there is a real man under there. Scruffy stubble brushed at your skin and sent goosebumps down your chest. Under the beskar his eyes followed the prickling trail that lead under the tattered cloak you still wore to your breasts, watching the way the fabric pointed where your nipples grew hard for him. His other hand couldn’t resist finding its way to your pert peaks, rolling them between his fingers in that way he knew flushed you with heat. Soft gasps rewarded his ears as he worked at your breast and clit, rubbing them in tandem. Your hips rolled into one hand and your back arched into the other, urging him to help you build your climax. He obliged, adding a second finger to pinch your clit softly between strong digits until you fell apart around him.
The pressure that was building behind you and pressing into your spine told you that if you wanted more from him you would have to give him a better angle. You started to get up, but the hands on your sensitive spots held you in place.
“What about your injuries? I don’t want to hurt you.” What injuries? There’s nothing left! His voice was filled with sincerity, a far cry from your first encounter. You didn’t answer him, instead you found each of his hands and squeezed them with a hum, asking him to trust that the bacta had set in and made you comfortable enough to move from your impromptu med bay. He slid his fingers out from your burning core, dragging the wetness from your cunt over your skin until his palms were on your back, helping to push you up off of him. The teeny tiny bed frame made it difficult to spin yourself around until you were facing him, and even more difficult to kick your pants off as you passed over top of him, but he never took his hands away from you to keep you steady until you were seated in his lap.
Straddling his waist you rolled your hips over where his cock was hidden from you, making him shudder under your legs. His arms glided from your knees to your hips, languidly making their way up your sides and past your breasts to the last remaining tatters of the black knit sweater he had allowed you to wear. Hooking a thumb under its ruined edges, he slid it up over your arms and cast it away into the darkness of the ship. His hands went right back to working at your breasts, massaging them like dough in time with your grinding hips. You took a moment to admire how he looked underneath you, his remaining armor glinting in the hazy ship light as his hands searched for every sensitive inch of your chest. You knew from legend that his helmet could never be removed in front of you, but you’d never heard anything about the rest of his clothes. Where his chest plate had been was a strappy flak jacket dotted with magnetic fasteners. Your hands went slowly to the first clasp, and the hands that were so indulged in you froze, his body stiff between your legs.
“Is this ok?” The irony of you repeating his question from earlier back to him made your lips turn in a sly smile.
“Y-yes.” His voice was nearly imperceptible, and you realized that he was shaking. You looked to his visor, watching him nod in consent before you continued. He dropped his hands to your hips, pulling down on your thighs and rutting up into you while you busied yourself with the complicated under armor until it fell away at his sides, revealing a pair of suspenders and an identical black knit tunic as the one that had been shredded off of you. You didn’t have the energy to peel every article of clothing off of him, so this would have to do. Without his cloak bunched around his shoulders you were able to see the flesh of his throat, so warm and inviting that you wanted to sink your teeth into it.
You bent down to nibble at the exposed skin, and the filthy moan that rattled out of the helmet sent shivers down your spine. The taste of him was exquisite, better than you could have imagined under all that fabric and leather. The overwhelming cocktail of his scent straight from the source made you bold. You kissed your way around the edge of his helmet where the metal met his skin until you found his pulse point and made good on your desires. His body convulsed when you bit down, sucking at the tender skin until you left blooming marks that would be there for days.
“Cyar'ika... Please...“ There was that word again, you didn’t know what it meant but the way he breathed it like a prayer felt like warm honey in your belly. Releasing his tormented neck you ran your hands down his broad chest until your thumbs bumped the leather suspenders that lead you down to his waist line where you were able to tug the edge of his shirt free, giving you a delicious window of his tummy; well-muscled and dusted with dark brown hair.
“What’s wrong, tin man? Nobody ever touch you like this before?” He was still shaking while you ran your hands under the edge of his shirt and through the soft treasure trail of fuzz from the top of his belt line to the bottom of his ribs. He couldn’t answer you, his breath caught in his throat at the sensation of your hands on his skin, but you were starting to put the pieces of his puzzle together. No, probably not.
You decided not to torture him any longer. The fabric of his pants was nearly stretched to capacity and wet with your slick. You had to stretch one leg out onto the floor to get enough of a footing to lift yourself high enough off him that you could free him from the canvas prison. His cock nearly burst out of its confines, and your face flushed red at the sight of him standing proudly at attention, twitching in your hands with a flood of shimmering precum made just for you.
His chest was heaving, ragged breaths forcing their way out of his modulator before you’d even taken his length. You used your hips to notch him at your entrance and his grip on your thighs clenched like a steel trap. Slowly you lowered yourself onto him, letting him fill you until you were stretched wide. Your eyes met his visor, though from the way it was tilted you knew he was watching himself disappear into you. His arms wrapped tightly under your ass as he thrust into you hard enough that he lifted you off the cot, quickly scooting both your bodies down the bed until he was flat on his back. You tried to stay upright, but his pounding soon had your head spinning until you were falling forward into his chest, digging your arms around his shoulders in a way you were becoming familiar with. Your hands found their way to the back of his helmet to where his hair line started, sneaking a few fingers under the metal edge to tangle in his curls. The Mandalorian’s hands were on your waist, holding you in place while he rocketed up into you, filling the ships cabin with the sound of wet slaps. His thick cock hit different from this angle, grinding up against the sweet spot deep inside you with each rut until you started seeing stars behind your eyes. He could feel you building up around him and he quickened his pace until you were gasping his name.
“M-mando! I... I’m gonna....” Your muscles coiled with heat until you burst, your sweet cunt fluttering around his still pumping cock until he went cascading over the edge of ecstasy with you, his helmet vibrating with a guttural roar. His feverish body shook, giving you a few short thrusts to milk the cum from his cock until it spilled out from where he was lost inside you.
His shaky arms held onto you so tightly, as if you would blast away into space if he let go. The endorphins flooding his head made him want to pour his heart out and tell you everything, bare himself in body and soul for the first time in his life. He wanted to tell you how nice you had looked in his clothes, how the loose knit fabric draped over your breasts was a work of art; even more so when you were standing before him armed to the teeth in his hunting trophies. How seeing you slice that fucking Twi’lek to ribbons was more graceful than any ballet. The sight of the bloody hole that had been burned into your side had made his skin crawl. Mando wasn’t ready to explain the child’s healing powers, he barely understood them himself; but if it wasn’t for the baby he would have been burying your corpse instead of tending your wounds. Instead of experiencing your living body like he was now.
His heart fluttered at the thought of his foundling healing you with his baby sorcerer magic, his tiny green paws pushed on your side where the blood was spilling from your wound. The thought of you dying for his bounty made him sick, but pride flushed the sensation away when he thought back to that first day with you up in the flight deck. How when his baby boy was restless that you acted, not with malice but with tenderness and care. He'd never wanted to rip his helmet off faster in all his days than when you sang his son a lullaby, the sweet tune of it filtering through his sensory equipment, and he longed to hear it as it was meant to be. In that moment he had been entranced, but the fierce glare of his visor had made you feel threatened. He didn't want that. He wanted to make you feel safe. The same way you had made his child feel, the same way you made him feel now. Like the galaxy itself couldn’t tear you from him.
But the ugly truth was that soon it would all end when you both went your separate ways. All the feelings he wanted to confess to you died in his mouth, leaving a bitter taste that brought him back to reality. You still straddled his waist, and though the blood had long since left his cock it still sat neatly in your heat, letting him feel your gentle heartbeat around him. Carefully he pulled himself free from the apex of your thighs and rolled you both sideways onto the unforgiving cot, letting gravity shuffle you down until you were nestled in the crook of his arm. He couldn’t help brushing a stray lock of hair from your face, meeting your half lidded eyes with his own behind the visor.
“I don’t think I can get to the fresher this time.” Your voice was barely a whisper, and the edges of sleep crept unbidden to your eyes; the traumatic activities of the day finally winning over your endurance. “You’re probably going to have to burn these sheets.”
Mando hummed with indifference, though for you he would burn all of Tatooine down if you asked. All the lovely thoughts that had danced through his mind came rolling through again, haloed in the warm light of afterglow. Only one made its way past his lips, sneaking out of the helmets’ modulator like a prayer.
“How does the song end?”
“Mmm?” You were so close to sleep, so cozy and full of cum that you knew would be a fun mess for morning-you to clean up. You wracked your brain trying to remember what the hell he was talking about. The star-shanty? “Why, do you need a lullaby too?”
“N-no. Just curious. When you leave, my foundling might ask me about it.” Liar. The calloused hand gliding up and down your spine brought the original contract you made with him ringing through your skull. One hunt and I’m gone.
“Leave? I’m not going anywhere until I see you tell Karga face to face that I’m rotting in a sarlacc pit. No take-backs. That old dog will probably dance when he hears he won’t have to part with his credits and I want to catch it on holo-corder.”
The rumbling sigh deep in his chest sounded more like an engine powering down than a mortal man, and it told you more than words ever could. The arm you had around his chest was met with strong fingers that intertwined with your own. He doesn’t want me to go. Who are you, Mandalorian?
“Tell me anyway? Please?” His arms tightened like a fortress around you. His words were distant, echoing out from somewhere in dreamland instead of right by your ear. Alright you big softie, if you’re going to beg me. You sighed heavily against him, trying to recall the songs of your distant past.
“The nights are long between the stars, and lonely too for me,
I wonder how I might have fared with home and family.
But the bonds of friendship I have formed will last my lifetime through,
Security is not for me, my dreams are all of you.”
The same soft snores that had been your original encore with the baby now ghosted in your ear, muffled by the mysterious beskar helmet but still unmistakable. Like father like son.
The weight of his arms around you was like nothing you had ever felt in your years on the run. You had traveled so far and met so many living beings but not once had you let another share your bed while you slept. You could get used to this. The thought was the last you had before sleep overtook you, your body slumping against his while you dreamed of silver and steel.
Carnival Cuteness
Summary: Louis and Clementine enjoy a double date with Violet and Prisha at the carnival.
Word Count: 3126
Read on AO3:
The lights of the carnival were bright against the darkness of the night. Children’s laughter and the different booths’ standee voices filled the air. The smells of popcorn, cotton candy, funnel cake and other fried treats swirled around in the air while the two couples strolled forward.
“See, isn’t this great?” Louis smiled back at Violet and Prisha as he happily walked hand in hand with Clementine.
“It does seem like a fun place,” Prisha commented and glanced over to see Violet looking over at a small teddy bear that was a prize for a ring toss.
“Well what should we do first?” Clementine’s voice drew back Prisha’s attention.
“Let’s get some food. We can try the ‘world’s greatest’ chicken nuggets,” Violet looked at Louis who had a confident grin on his face.
“You never know, Vi. They really could be the greatest,”
“I say it’s just some bullshit they put to make people buy them. No one makes better chicken nuggets than Omar,”
Everyone seemed to immediately agree with Violet.
“Perhaps we should find a spot for a few of us to watch while the others get food,” Prisha suggested as her eyes scanned the area around them.
“Good idea,” Clementine looked around as well and soon found a picnic table. “Found one, come on, Lou.” Clementine led the way, her fingers still intertwined with Louis’ as she made her way to the picnic table. Soon the four of them were sitting together.
“I can get some food. What does everyone want?” Louis looked around at others.
“Chicken nuggets,” Violet said simply and her eyes began to glance around at the different stands while she gently brushed her thumb on top of Prisha’s hand.
“Sounds good to me. Maybe you could get some lemonades and some other snacks too,” Clementine suggested and Louis gave a short nod.
“I’ll come with you to help carry all the stuff,” Prisha squeezed Violet’s hand lightly then slipped free and stood up.
“We will be back with refreshments and the world’s greatest chicken nuggets!” Louis declared with a smile.
“They’re not the world’s greatest,” Violet grumbled which only made Louis’ grin grow.
“Better watch out, Vi. You may have to eat those words,”
“Doubt it,” Violet leaned her elbows on the table and smiled over at Louis. “If anyone is gonna eat their words, it’s gonna be you when these chicken nuggets turn out to be shit.”
“Let's hope they’re not that bad,” Prisha shook her head. “Anyway, we will be back shortly,”
Louis leaned over and gave Clementine a quick kiss then jogged forward to catch up to Prisha. Clementine and Violet watched the pair and after a minute or two Prisha’s teal top and Louis’ hoodie covered waist had disappeared into the crowd, leaving Violet and Clementine alone.
“So, any booth you’re really interested in?” Clementine leaned forward with a smile.
“Hmm, maybe.” Violet’s eyes wandered over to the ring toss booth again. She did really want that small teddy bear. Something about it just felt really comforting to her. The blonde quickly looked away though, embarrassed at the thought, then back at her friend. “What about you?”
“Definitely want to play the King of the Hammer game,” Clementine nodded over to the bright, shiny higher striker that held a bell at the top of it. The hammer for the game stood in the carnival worker’s hand who was trying to convince people to show off their strength. “And I wanna go on the ferris wheel too. I’m sure the view is super pretty,” Clementine smiled brightly at the thought.
“Yeah, that sounds nice,” Violet looked at her friend with a soft smile.
“Who knows though - maybe you'll be too busy kissing Prisha to take in the view,” Clementine had a teasing look in her eyes.
Violet could feel her face growing hot. “Yeah, whatever. Not like you and Louis will be any different,”
Those words made Clementine grow a bit flustered. She was about to respond when she heard her boyfriend’s warm voice. “We come back bearing delicious fried treats!” Louis beamed and held up the chicken nuggets and funnel cake.
“We made sure to get drinks too,” Prisha added as she passed around the lemonades. She sat down and gave Violet a quick kiss before taking a sip of her drink. Everyone began to dig into the food, all of them looking over to see whether Violet liked the chicken nuggets or not.
The blonde tossed one in her mouth and munched thoughtfully. “Eh, they’re good, not great,”
“Ah, that pains my heart,” Louis held his heart in mock sadness. “I will pay for some cotton candy as an apology for the mediocre chicken nuggets,”
“Good,” Violet smiled over at her best friend then continued to eat. The four of them talked happily about the different booths they wanted to visit and after a few minutes the food was consumed. Violet casually tossed her lemonade cup into the trash before helping out with the rest of the clean up. Clementine and Louis were set to knock down some bottles at a booth while Prisha and Violet were going to head over to the ring toss.
“So, meet back here in half an hour and switch pairs?” Clementine asked as she intertwined her fingers with Louis’ once more.
“Yeah, sounds good,” Violet tossed out some more trash then walked off hand in hand with Prisha. The couple strolled through the carnival together, enjoying each other’s company as they made their way to the ring toss. When they had arrived, Violet’s eyes caught sight of the prizes once more. Prisha looked over at her girlfriend who was fidgeting with the strings on her cream hoodie. After a moment Violet glanced over and locked eyes with Prisha. “What?”
“Nothing, I just think you look very cute tonight,” Prisha leaned over and kissed Violet’s cheek softly. Violet was surprised, her eyes growing large at the compliment before softing. “Now, I think it's time I win you a prize.” Prisha walked forward and paid for some tickets to play. She was determined to show off to her girlfriend. Prisha took the ring and put all of her focus into the game. With a flick of her wrist she was able to land the first ring, then the next, then the next until she only had one left. Prisha took a deep breath and with a quick throw landed the last ring.
“Yes!” Prisha pumped her fist.
“Good job! Which prize would you like?” the booth worker asked with a smile.
“That small brown bear,” Prisha pointed out the prize and Violet’s eyes widened in surprise. Prisha had gotten the prize she wanted. Prisha graciously accepted the prize from the booth worker then jogged over to her girlfriend. “For my Morning Glory,” Prisha handed over the dark brown teddy bear with cute little paws and soft black eyes.
Violet took the bear, staring at it in awe for a second before a soft smile appeared on her lips. Getting on her tiptoes and cupping the side of Prisha’s face, Violet captured her lips in a loving, tender kiss. “Thanks. Now it's my turn to win you a prize,” Violet tucked her little teddy bear in her hoodie pocket then went up to try her luck at the ring toss. She accepted the rings and began to throw them. Violet got the first two rings on the targets with ease. The blonde tossed the third one that ricocheted off one of the targets but luckily landed on another one. Violet was able to land the other rings and smiled proudly at her victory. “Victory Violet,”
“What prize would you like?” The booth worker asked and that when Violet realized she hadn’t thought about which prize to get for Prisha. Her eyes began to search for the perfect prize. After a minute she found a teddy bear that looked like hers except its fur was a light soft yellow.
“I’ll take that one,” Violet pointed out the prize and accepted it with a small thanks before returning to Prisha. “Here, for my Beauty,” Violet could feel her face growing hotter. She rarely used that pet name, especially in public. She wasn’t sure why she had gone for it but it had made Prisha happy.
Prisha took the gift and held it close to her chest with a loving smile. “Thank you,” She wrapped her girlfriend in a warm hug and swayed this way and that for a few seconds. “I wonder how Clem and Louis are faring with their game.”
“I don’t know, but Louis’ aim is shit so he’s probably failing.”
“Damn it,” Louis’ face fell as he failed to knock over the bottles once more. “Again! I will win you this prize, Clem!” He slammed down some money onto the booth and accepted the balls.
“Louis, it's okay,” Clementine reassured her boyfriend who had missed with his first toss.
“No, I will win a prize for you, M’lady!” Louis declared but after a few tosses he had failed once more.
Clementine took his hand and gave it a quick kiss. “How about I give it a try. What prize do you want?” Clementine’s question made Louis look over at her with shock. She wanted to win him a prize?
“I want the giant turtle plushie,” Louis played with one of his dreads for a few seconds.
“Okay, then I’m going to win that for you,” Clementine stole a kiss from Louis that made his heart flutter before she strode forward to win him that turtle. Tossing the ball up in the air and snatching it back with her hand, Clementine threw it swiftly, knocking over a few bottles. Her throws were deadly and her accuracy was on point as she knocked over bottle after bottle.
Soon all the targets were knocked down and Clementine was victorious. Louis ran forward and picked his girlfriend up in a hug, spinning her around joyfully. Clementine laughed and was happily surprised by the kiss that Louis gave her when he set her back down onto the ground. She deepened the kiss for a moment before the booth worker cleared her throat.
“Your prize?”
“Oh, right,” Clementine awkwardly scratched the back of her head while Louis laughed shyly. “Give me that huge ass turtle!”
The booth worker gave the huge plushie to Clementine who handed it over to Louis.
“Here you go, baby,” Clementine smiled when she saw the sparkle in Louis’ eyes as he hugged the turtle closely. After a few seconds though a small frown appeared on his face. “What’s wrong?” “I’m trying to figure out how to hold your hand and carry the turtle,” Louis thought deeply then smiled when inspiration struck him. Throwing the turtle on top of his head and balancing it with one hand, he reached over and took Clementine’s. Clementine laughed softly.
“You’re such a dork,”
“Yeah, but I’m your dork,” Louis gave a playful grin that turned into a shyer one when Clementine kissed his cheek.
“Yeah you are. Now let’s go - we said we’d meet Vi and Prisha by now,”
“Right, lead the way, my darling,” Louis moseyed on ahead with his girlfriend.
“Holy shit,” Violet’s words made Prisha look up to see what made her girlfriend say that. She was not expecting the sight before her. Louis was balancing a giant green turtle plushie on his head while holding Clementine’s hand as she carried the cotton candy.
“As promised, cotton candy,” Louis handed over the cotton candy to Violet.
“Thanks,” Violet immediately began to happily munch on the cotton candy. “Well I suppose it's time to switch,” Prisha gave Violet one more kiss before walking over to Clementine. Louis soon did the same and strolled over towards Violet.
“Better get ready because I’m about to kick your ass at the King of the Hammer,” Clementine gave a competitive smirk over towards Prisha.
“Ha, bold words that will be proven wrong,” Prisha returned the smile and soon the two of them were lost to their competitive sides. Violet and Louis watched them for a minute before Louis spoke up.
“So, what game do you wanna play?” Louis looked over at his best friend who gave a shrug.
“I don’t know. I’m pretty sure I can beat you at any of them,” Violet’s words made a competitiveness dance around in Louis’ eyes.
“Oh ho ho, we’ll see about that!”
Violet’s words had ended up being partially true. Any game where precise aim was crucial Louis had lost. He had managed to ricochet all the rings against the targets, missed quite a few bean bags and his darts had hit everything but the balloons.
“So, you were saying?” Violet smirked over at Louis who looked over with a small frown that quickly turned into a smile.
“Just watch - I’ll beat you at one of these. I-” Louis stopped talking when he noticed a shiny piano key necklace that was available as one of the prizes at a booth. Without another word he made his way over there.
“Where the hell are you going?”
“Gotta win something for Clem!” Louis didn’t care how many tickets it cost. He was gonna win this one.
“Get ready loser, because you’re about to lose!” Clementine accepted the hammer and raised it up high, her blue top swayed slightly over her shorts. Prisha stood by the side, watching with her hands on her hips. With a mighty swing Clementine swung the hammer down, whacking the mark and sending the metal ball up all the way to the beast bar. “Beat that, Prish!” Clementine tossed over the hammer to her friend who caught it with ease.
“Oh, I will,” Prisha took a deep, centering breath then lifted up the hammer, sending it crashing down onto the mark. The ball went soaring up and went to ultra beast and nearly hit the bell at the top. Clementine stared in disbelief, her mouth slightly ajar. “Seems I left you speechless and won.” Prisha had a smug expression on her face.
“Maybe the first round, but I’ll win the next,” Clementiene handed over some tickets and the friends competition continued.
After a while the two pairs met up again. Clementine was a bit upset by the fact that Prisha had won that feat of strength but it soon dissipated when Louis showed her what he had won for her. A beautiful metal piano key necklace. Clementine turned her back to her boyfriend and let him help her put it on.
“Lou, it's beautiful! Thank you,” She turned around and gave him a kiss.
“Just don’t tell her how many tickets it took,” Violet gave a teasing smile over to Louis.
“Well, I eventually won it and that's what matters,” he huffed then took Clementine’s hand in his. “Now let's go on the ferris wheel before it's too late,”
Everyone agreed with Louis and the four of them started to walk towards the ferris wheel. After a few minutes both couples had gotten their spot on the ferris wheel and were slowly being lifted into the air.
Louis gave an impressed whistle at the view when he and Clementine reached the top.
“It's beautiful,” Clementine smiled at the sight of the city’s lights.
“Not as beautiful as you,” Louis’ words made Clementine’s heartbeat quicken and she leaned forward to capture his lips in a kiss. She was really thankful that the ferris wheel worker had agreed to look after the turtle plushie. Clementine could only imagine how awkward it would’ve been if the turtle had been a third wheel here. The couple shared a kiss then another before Clementine lay her head on Louis’ shoulder and they enjoyed the view once more.
“The stars are shining brightly tonight,” Prisha commented and glanced over to see that Violet’s focus had completely gone to the starry sky. A happy, peaceful smile was on her lips.
“Yeah, it's great,” Violet smiled over at her love and scooted closer. Prisha wrapped her arm around Violet’s shoulder and pulled her closer as her girlfriend wrapped her arms around her waist. Both of them shared a smile then returned their gaze to the stars.
After going on the ferris wheel a few times the couples decided to call it good for the night and head back home. As they began to walk through the carnival, however, Violet felt an uneasiness. It felt as though someone’s eyes were watching her. The blonde looked back then around her but she couldn’t see anyone. She decided to try and ignore it but it stayed there and felt ever present.
“Is everything alright?” Prisha asked; her eyes held concern for Violet.
“Yeah, it's probably nothing. Let’s just head to the exit.” Violet mumbled and the others all decided it was best to listen. After a few minutes they had reached the exit and were heading towards Louis’ car when suddenly a man began to follow them. The four of them enchanted glances, holding a silent conversation on what to do as the stranger continued to hover nearby. Before they could settle on a plan though the man reached out for Violet.
“Hey there, wanna have some fun?”
Prisha’s eyes hardened and she pulled Violet into her arms protectively. “Get your filthy hands away from Violet!” she spat and took out the pepper spray, spraying it directly into the man’s eyes. The man cried out and was surprised when Prisha pushed him to the ground. She held tightly onto Violet, her eyes glaring at the man.
“Ow, what the fuck!” The man howled, rubbing at his red, swollen eyes.
“Don’t you dare think of getting up!” Prisha warned, “Or your eyes will get sprayed again!”
Louis and Clementine quickly spotted a security guard who was on his break and went over to report what had just happened. After a few minutes the man was taken away by the security guard and the four were left to go about the rest of their evening.
“Are you alright?” Prisha looked at her girlfriend with worry.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” Violet reassured Prisha with a smile.
“Well, that asshole will have to deal with security now,” Clementine noted.
“Yeah, he won’t be harassing anyone again anytime soon. Now how about we end this night on a happy note with some ice cream? My treat!” Louis smiled brightly at the others.
“Sure,” Violet smiled and quickly the four of them kept walking toward Louis’ car. They weren’t going to let that moment ruin the fun of the double date. Soon their attention returned back onto fun as they drove off in pursuit of the “world’s best” ice cream according to the reviews Louis had read.
White Widow - Chapter Six
Fanfiction.net | AO3
Title: White Widow Chapter: Six Author: Blue Rose
Huge shout out to my new beta - CherryBerry12. Thank you :) 💖
“Jesus, what did you eat today? Where did it all come from?!”
If Sakura could, she would have pinched her nose closed, but she needed both hands for the task of bagging up the dog poop while keeping the leash out of it. She didn’t understand why dogs never watched where they were going and tried to keep Akumaru from stepping in his droppings before she could clean up.
Finishing, she tossed the mess in a waste bin they passed before crossing the street.
“That crap was almost as big as your head.” Sakura laughed.
The pair had just come from a small park at the end of the block and were now heading to their intended destination. On the surface, it was just a smart thing to do — letting the dog relieve himself before they needed to go inside. In reality, it was her just procrastinating. And she used every second of it.
However, the growing puppy didn't care much about taking a stroll today. Especially when they approached the towering highrise. This was his other home, and his panting and excitement signaled he knew exactly where they were.
"Ok! Ok! We're going."
Approaching the entrance, Sakura was careful to watch her step while she admired the way the evening sun reflected off the smoked glass and steel. There was a dark, eerie beauty she found in the looming structure before them.
The last time she'd been here, a thin layer of snow had covered all of the asphalt. Frigid temperatures caused the flurries to stick to the ground like falling powder — perfect for making snow angels.
She remembered that the exterior had been decorated with strings of twinkling blue lights as well with poinsettias arranged beneath the windows in a festive holiday display.
Thank goodness the weather was not below freezing as it was prior, months ago. Though, that didn't stop a wave of nerves from washing over her, wondering again how she managed to get herself into another weird situation.
Oh, yeah... that's right.
It started with a favor.
It always started with a favor.
Because she had a difficult time saying no and was consistently willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Which is why she was opening the glass doors to walk through the vestibule, speaking to the concierge in the lobby to give her name.
Well, it was much too late to change her mind and Sakura sighed, releasing Akamaru from her arms after the elevator doors closed. Making a steady ascent to the top floor, she mulled over the reasons she was there in the first place.
Sasuke had asked if she could return the dog to Kiba's family.
He'd never met any of them, and correctly presumed she would know how to reach someone. It wasn’t much of a stretch. She and Kiba had been friends since freshman year in high-school.
Sakura conceded to do his bidding, but followed up with some questions of her own — like, why was he watching over the dog to begin with?
Despite being guarded, Sasuke answered all of her questions. Still, she couldn't shake the feeling things were being left unsaid.
What quickly followed however, were thoughts of the canine’s owner. And soon she felt the dormant bud of concern blooming within her, once again.
Kiba .
Gently nudging away the worry she'd felt, Sakura went along with it. Especially after Sasuke revealed that it was against his lease to have a dog — up until now he'd been taking a risk.
Feeling a little sorry that he’d been keeping him, she agreed to return the pup. Which is how she'd ended up here.
The elevator came to a smooth stop at its designated floor, the thick doors sliding open. Akamaru pulled her down the hall, towards the other home he knew by scent and memory.
Sakura only knew they were at the correct place because of the ' PH3 ' plaque beside the red door.
Reaching out, she pulled down on the lever-like knob, entering once a voice beckoned her inside.
"Hello?"
She unhooked the leash from the studded collar just to watch the ball of fur run deeper into the suite, his tiny paws gaining traction against the mahogany planks of wood. Following seconds later, she rounded the corner to catch sight of a figure standing near an alcove.
Sakura looked on as Akamaru whined near the person's feet, pawing at their immaculately pressed pants. He then proceeded to roll onto his back, completely exposing his belly.
Sakura brought her eyes up to greet a woman whose tips of brown hair curled around her sharp jaw. Defined lips were painted a deep violet with a peremptory tone to match. Her voice was smooth and rich, whisking past her ears.
"Sakura."
Tsume Inuzuka stood as statuesque as royalty. Her commanding aura matched the intensity in her swirling, chocolate brown eyes. The attitude alone was worthy of any crown, but she was far too brutish for something as dainty as a tiara. Her brassknuckles nature had served her well in business...
And, maybe in her personal life as well?
The matriarch was already married to husband number three if she remembered correctly. Despite being rather intimidating, there was another side to her... a more gentle side. Something that was softer around the edges and reserved only for a select few.
Sakura hoped she could tap into that side now. Maybe it would help, especially when a certain topic was brought up.
"It's been a while, hasn't it?"
Reaching down, the brunette picked up the squirming pooch to move him under her arm, briefly inspecting his form with a keen eye.
"Hello, Mrs. Inuzuka...Er! I mean, ' Shimazu ' now... isn't it?" Sakura ran a hand across her neck, smiling to cover the wince she so desperately tried to hide.
"Tsume is fine. Come here, let me get a good look at you. You've finally got some meat on those bones, I see."
Almond-shaped nails dipped in black lifted the young girl's chin, fingers tilting her face and Sakura felt a blush warming her cheeks under the scrutiny.
"Ah... yes, it has been a while. Thank you for meeting with me on such short notice."
The dark-haired woman moved to sit on a loveseat, reaching for her glass of wine.
"Lucky it's not the weekend, or I would have been in California by now," she asserted, swirling the Merlot around in the wine glass.
Sakura politely declined the offer to join her with a glass of her own. She did accept a seat, however, sitting across from the older woman as she continued.
"I thought he would've lasted a lot longer before dumping his responsibilities on someone else. Speaking of which..."
Tsume raised her eyes to meet Sakura's, the tips of her nails clicking against the glass before she pressed on.
"You mentioned that you haven't heard from that son of mine. He's decided to stop responding to me too, which has been very irritating."
The layered ends of Sakura's high ponytail swung across the top of her shoulders as she shook her head. Her bangs rested partially in her face but their eyes remained locked as she confirmed what she’d said earlier over the phone.
"No, I have not."
The hand that was twirling the glass stopped, digits gripping the stem while the ambrosia settled within.
Shadows from the lowering sun tilted across the walls signaling the oncoming sunset. Quiet and sobering — as something stirred in the air and the mood changed.
Sakura sat immobile and tried not to fidget under the weight.
The tension was broken when Tsume released a hum, cutting off eye contact to look down. Reaching over, she grabbed a piece of prosciutto arranged on a platter from the coffee table.
Sakura slowly released the breath she had no idea she was holding until then.
Hesitating, she felt the need to tread lightly but knew it was necessary to shed some light on the situation. Be that as it may, it didn't look like she was going to be discovering anything new with the way things were going.
"That's actually why I wanted to speak with you. He hasn't responded to my messages either. At first, I wasn't worried, because of... well-."
Kiba's history of disappearing was left unspoken, but Tsume grunted in understanding, taking a long sip from her glass.
His mother was instantly reminded of his past rebellious acts. Although there usually would be some sort of... warning that preceded any dark turn.
Her remarrying or becoming bi-coastal were just a few examples. She could remember the fights and fallouts that followed. Especially regarding his choice of outlets.
The reckless behavior, the unsavory habits, the disagreements... she remembered them all.
But...
Tsume thought they'd long moved past that. He seemed to finally settle down... as much as someone like him could. He'd been taking care of his apartment, had stayed out of jail-
As far as she knew ...
-and out of most forms of trouble for quite some time now. It was hard to recall the last time she'd received a phone call that ended with screams, threats, or sour disappointment. She'd hate to think he'd regressed.
"Is there anyone he's been hanging around? A new group of friends, maybe? Other than Ino and yourself—"
Tsume was in the dark to whom he was associating with these days. "...he rarely tells me anything and I can barely keep up with him."
Sakura was not the type to be dishonest but she found herself in an uncomfortable position. Choosing her words carefully and hoping her deception wouldn't come back to bite her in the ass, she gave what she thought would be just enough.
"No one I've talked to has seen or heard from him either. I'm sorry."
She was here to get as much information as she could, without giving too much away.
All because...
Sasuke had also asked that she keep his name out of everything. As far as Kiba's folks were concerned, he didn't exist. And he'd like to keep it that way.
He had his reasonings; he’d murmured some explanation and Sakura relented because it made sense at the time. Maybe not giving names was the safest route.
But now that she was here, it was uncomfortable as hell, and her stomach felt like bats were fluttering away in it. The calm expression she presented on the surface, however, was flawless.
Moments ticked, ticked, ticked away... before Tsume finally waved her fingers dismissively. She'd heard everything she needed to hear. Crossing one leg over the other, the perfect cuff in her pants rested against her heel.
"No matter. Someone is already looking into it. If that boy thinks he can get away with ignoring me, he has another thing coming. I'm just wondering what foreign jail cell or backwater whore house I'll need to rescue him from this time ," she sneered, gulping down the last of her wine.
Sakura adjusted slightly, not saying a word but giving her a small nod. But her fingers curled into fists hidden within her pockets, the rings she wore digging into her skin.
It's not like she wanted him to be caught behind bars. Or needing to be dragged to a health clinic the next day, for thorough testing.
It's just...
At least he would be found, and all this fuss would have been all over nothing. But until that happened...
Sakura gave Tsume a small smile, hoping to ease away any concern this conversation may have brought.
Hidden away on the inside, she wished someone was there for her right now — who could return the favor. Someone who would gift her the same comfort she'd just offered Tsume to maybe put her mind at ease. Because even after speaking with his mother and listening to her confident answer...
Sakura could not shake the feeling that just wouldn't go away.
Something was amiss.
But she hoped that she was off track... and just being paranoid. And that his mother was right.
This was just one of those... 'Kiba times'.
It's exactly what a large part of her was wishing for... and what she needed to believe.
✧・゚* : *゚・✧
He hated that damn bow.
Sure... on its own, it was harmless.
That was all an illusion, though. Being an inanimate object did not stop it from being a vexation.
And just how could something so insignificant, be so... troublesome? After all, it was merely a decorative accessory, attached to a pair of heels. Looking so innocent, affixed to the leather band caging her slender ankle.
But looks could be deceiving.
It became problematic when his eyes traveled north. And for the life of him, Sasuke couldn't fathom how a few inches on a shoe could be so devastating. The manner in which they elongated her legs as his focus strayed upward. Following an invisible path along smooth, pale skin.
Limbs that seemed to go on and on for days — filling out to thighs that were soon hidden from view beneath sparkle.
The dress she wore did nothing but accentuate her curves; dips and valleys that filled out an enticing figure.
Sakura's slender neck supported her head as it cocked to the side, smiling at whatever some teen girl in front of her said. And her green eyes crinkled in mirth as she let out a laugh, bringing the clear plastic cup to her lips for a drink.
Speculating if she always smiled that brightly for everyone.
Sasuke tore his gaze away, eyes landing on the DJ booth in the corner — the LED lights around the display throbbed to the beat of the track, playing across the speakers.
Like hell he’d be caught staring.
It wasn’t like they hadn’t just spent... what? The last two hours together? Getting everything ready for the party. He'd seen her then...
Same outfit…
Same smile…
Same god damn heels.
So what had changed? Could he not keep himself from finding her?
His eyes constantly tracking her, flickering to trace her migration around the open space.
Even when he caught himself it wasn't enough to stop the cycle from repeating. His eyes would be lowered, idly scanning the party, not focused on anything in particular.
Then...
A flash of sequins before his eyes would settle on that little black bow.
Wasn't that the textbook definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?
Sasuke's mind didn't pass along that bit of information to the rest of his body. Instead, his eyes would start the trek all over again, his avaricious gaze taking her in before cutting away.
Seeking out a distraction, he leaned against the expansive window behind him.
The tempered glass usually flooded the suite with natural light during the day. Now, it hummed against his back, miniature vibrations warbling along the surface from the tracks deep base. And it felt cool against him as he sighed.
Taking another swing of beer, Sasuke hoped the warm sensation he felt didn't spread to his face. But at least he could make it appear the fault of alcohol and not the salacious thoughts starting to run rampant in his mind.
Like...
If the rest of her was as soft as the skin on her inner wrist was. The pad of his thumb had brushed against it when he had passed something to her earlier. And watching now, at the exposed skin her dress didn’t cover...
Damn him if it certainly didn't look the part. He would only need a few seconds to graze his hands across the perceived silkiness to know the answer.
Lowering the amber bottle, he swallowed thickly, sighing after. A quick look at his watch had him quickly releasing another one, wondering again why he was still there. Glancing over his shoulder at the snow-covered streets below, a minute passed — before a prickling behind his ear caught his attention.
He was being watched.
Everything around them started to fade away when his eyes suddenly met hers. Twinkling stars locked onto his own, piercing through the smoky haze around them, her focus solely on him. And suddenly, Sasuke's mouth was no longer satisfied with the bitter taste of alcohol.
No...
He was craving something else entirely.
And as he moved closer—
.
His vision completely went white.
.
And like coming up for air after treading murky waters, he broke through the surface and was brought back to the present… somewhat painfully .
Surely, the sound of flesh meeting leather must have been heard during the impact. But his brain only registered the sound after as it echoed in his mind.
Then there was the ringing.
Lots and lots of ringing.
.
Ka-KLUMP-PAK!
whoooo-sh...
THUD.
.
...
"........... -ke? "
He could have sworn that the saying went: you were supposed to see stars.
Not feel them.
' Oh shit that hurt .'
"...... -uke ? Sasuke ?! Are you alright?"
' Fucking stars. '
"Sasuke...?"
And fuck him and his own negligence for not seeing that coming.
The ringing in his left ear dimmed low enough that he was finally able to hear the question. Blinking back the few spots that danced behind his eyelids, Sasuke grunted, pushing away the hands waving in front of his face. When there were no longer four eyes blinking down at him, he rose to sit up.
The boxing gloves that had been strapped to Itachi's hands were now lying between them, his profile relaxing though remaining in its hunched form.
"You were supposed to dodge the second hook. I pulled back but it was too late." He fussed over him again, but Sasuke batted away the concern, sitting up fully when the ringing in his ear finally disappeared.
He felt a trail of moisture slide down his temple but breathed a sigh of relief, realizing that it was only sweat. He still counted his blessings though, thankful it wasn't his brother's leg that flew at him instead. If it was, his head would have been knocked clean from his shoulders.
Sasuke removed the padded mitts he wore, tearing at the velcro with his perfect white teeth — more embarrassed than hurt. His brother had dangerously quick hands, and he should have known better than to allow his mind to wander when they were in the middle of sparring.
"Where were you?" the elder asked, mirroring his unspoken thoughts while moving away to grab them water from the kitchen.
'So he's going to call me out after all...'
Sasuke huffed, choosing to stay seated on the mat below the hanging punching bag. He slowly worked his jaw open and closed a few times, rotating the Temporomandibular Joint.
Good... nothing was broken.
"Nowhere." Sasuke deadpanned, feeling along the curve for swelling.
Itachi raised a brow at him as he passed him the chilled bottle. Knowing where further questioning would lead to, he pivoted to another topic.
"I see your temporary house guest is no longer here..."
Taking a much-needed sip, Sasuke began to explain what had transpired. Of how he had gotten Sakura to facilitate Akamaru’s return, along with agreeing to a few terms.
Terms that were presented more as a... suggestion, of course. Maybe gather a little information while she was there if she could?
He took full advantage of her gentle disposition, to coax her a little. Anything to help seal the deal.
And when it was all said and done, they parted ways with an agreement in place.
Sasuke didn't realize the amount of silence that stretched between them until he looked up, catching his brother’s stare. Keen orbs continued to study him, inky depths watching...
Causing his own brows to snap together.
"What?"
"........"
The corner of his brother's mouth twitched, deep lines appearing across his face before smoothing again.
" What? "
Sasuke didn't want to repeat himself, but the silence had struck a nerve. It brought back memories of when they were younger and how he felt whenever he was overlooked, ignored, or even excluded from certain things.
Being an adult now, he could understand why things were handled the way they were and he harbored no resentment. However, that didn't stop the feelings from returning every now and again and bringing him back to the times when he used to be shooed away.
Itachi never bothered to take the time to explain anything, because Sasuke was too young at the time. No one around had felt the need to, back then.
And then there were the other occurrences, where he'd be left with nothing more than a whisper of— "Next time, Sasuke."
As fleeting as it came, the memories all disappeared when Itachi finally caved.
Learning lessons from the past, Itachi saw no reason to get Sasuke unnecessarily riled up.
"Nothing."
It would have been convincing, too... if they hadn't known each other so well.
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, Sasuke leaned back on his elbows, his damp shirt stretching across his torso. He dragged his water bottle with him as a fresh breeze stirred across the loft from an open window.
"Just spit it out already. You can either say it now and get it over with. Or later..." His nose twisted as if he was going to sneeze.
"...no doubt in some cryptic way. Do us both a favor and spare me the hassle," Sasuke ended boldly, taking another swig and draining the bottle below the halfway mark.
It took some time, but pointing out the obvious had its desired effect and Itachi finally asked what had been on his mind.
What came was an inquiry about the woman — whose name, he'd noticed; was always spoken with a certain... tone .
Was there something going on that he should know about?
And since Itachi had avoided using a condescending tone when asking the question, the prodding managed to disarm him.
"Nothing..." Sasuke answered; slate-colored eyes drifting as his brother moved to sit near him. Breaking eye contact, a few of his fingers pressed into the padded mat underneath them.
"... at least, not yet?"
He always did find it difficult to keep things from his brother.
Itachi could have easily sprained his wrist while sitting; his weight careening with a jolt at the quiet admission. He recovered well enough, sitting down fully and eyeing his younger brother with veiled surprise.
And for a while, the only sound in the room came from the jingling chains holding up the punching bag, as it drifted in small circles near them.
Sasuke finally gathered the courage to glance up, but his brother's eyes were peering outside, deep in thought.
The sunlight kissed Itachi's low ponytail, gathered across one shoulder and his umber touched gaze looked far away.
The question surprised him when his lips suddenly moved.
"You like this girl, Sasuke?"
He wasn't sure why, but he flinched.
What was he supposed to say, Sasuke thought as his teeth pinched the inside of his bottom lip. The tip of his tongue could almost feel the impression left by Sakura's teeth from their last kiss. The ghost of the intimate touch came to mind at the most inopportune time.
Did they really have to get into this when he still couldn't find the right words to describe what was happening between him and Sakura? It was all just one big ball of complication as far as Sasuke was concerned.
An intricate web, twisting with many threads of complexity...
With the label of 'friends ,' not quite fitting...
And it was far too soon to be thinking about ‘love’ ...
But 'just fucking' was too crude, and there was an interest there beyond the physical — as nice as that was.
A string of fate that seemed to constantly pluck at his attention whenever she was near, while driving him to distraction when she wasn't.
And it was comical and annoying at the same damn time. And, well...
Ah fuck , he'd asked for this, didn't he? Him and his big mouth.
"I-..." Sasuke hesitated, blinking in contemplation before trying again. "What I mean is-"
Long fingers wrapped in protective white tape lifted. Two digits extended to brush against Sasuke's forehead, effectively cutting him off.
"I just want you to be mindful." A sharp gaze fixated onto his own, and even though he took a breath to respond — his brother's gentle smile gave him pause.
"I also want you to be happy," he continued, lips curving into a knowing grin.
Rising from the mat with a stretch, Itachi made his way down the hall towards the bathroom, leaving his younger sibling alone with his thoughts. He also ignored the small frown zeroing in on his retreating back.
Sasuke slowly shook his head, following the figure of his brother until he disappeared around the corner.
Whatever surprise that lingered was quickly overshadowed with something else as he gulped down another drink of water.
An unexpected flare of delight engulfed him as he slowly returned his brother's grin...
And there was only the empty room left to witness the handsome sight of Sasuke's dimple — a rare, but genuine smile pursing his lips at the unclouded approval he'd just received.
"Is that the last of it? What about that other set in the back?" one mover asked the other as they stood near the rear of the box truck.
"The dresser with the mirror? Nah, that's going to a couple in Bethesda. That's our next stop. Here, take this when you go up and drop that off. She already tipped us... just get them to sign," the driver told him, closing the rolling door when he jumped down from the back of the vehicle.
The clipboard was placed on top of the sealed, brown box the taller mover was already carrying in his arms.
Making sure it was perfectly balanced in his hands, he turned to go up the freight elevator... making one last and final trip.
The front doors to the newly leased space were still propped open, and he placed the box down, just inside the sizable foyer.
"This is the last one," he called out, his russet eyes scanning the invoice, looking for the client’s name. "We just need an autograph from Ms.-... ah-."
"I'll do it!"
There was a conscious effort not to look down at the exposed legs of the young blonde as she came bounding towards him, hips swaying in a pair of forest green cotton shorts.
He also did his best not to stare at the: 'I love cock' written in graffiti font on her shirt — and the word 'tails' stamped right below it in smaller print.
Though slightly crude, the tongue-in-cheek message had made him chuckle most of the afternoon while he was working.
Ino smiled brightly, nibbling on the capped pen while her eyes took their time to locate the signature line.
Tugging on the brim of his hat, the helper began to calculate his chance of success in scoring her number. And in turn go completely against company policy.
His opportunity to risk it all was interrupted when the owner of the suite appeared from around a corner.
Sakura shooed the golden femme away, signing the papers instead. She thrust the paperwork back in his hands after thanking him.
Mouthing a quick 'sorry,' Sakura apologized for the actions of her all-too-flirtatious friend.
The company had done an amazing job and had earned the positive review she'd leave.
Ino twirled away to retrieve a stash — hidden earlier on the built-in shelf, snagging a lighter as well. Turning, she climbed over the back of the sofa.
The hand holding the bright red plastic waved in their general direction.
"We really can't thank you enough. Did you guys have to train to be so amazing?" Ino climbed down with a purr and a wink, still flirting as she settled on the floor.
Sakura let out a nervous giggle, ushering the smitten guy out the front doors.
"Is there anyone who is spared from your relentless-... philandering ?" She huffed, unlatching the mechanism holding both doors open, closing them tightly.
Really, her friend could be so embarrassing sometimes.
"What can I say? I love a man in uniform. Besides, I left them alone for most of the afternoon… you should be thanking me." Ino twisted the grinder in her hands, her spine resting against the front of the large sectional.
Sakura slowly came over to stretch out behind her, laying down on her stomach. Sinking into the cushions, she felt the tension slowly release from her overworked muscles.
Despite any possible... sexual harassment lawsuits, she was glad her bestie was there lending a helping hand. Moving was always a grueling task, so any help was appreciated. She'd even done some manual labor when she helped Sakura paint a room back at her old apartment.
Leaving the place in immaculate condition scored her most of the security deposit back. Her comrade teased that it was unfair and that the only reason she did was that the place was barely lived in.
"I'm just glad it's all done." Sakura mumbled from her sprawled position, her sweat pants resting dangerously low on her hips. They were already rolled down twice at the waist, and now a bit of blue cotton peeked from underneath.
Ino paused, oceanic eyes spanning the layout. One eyebrow pinched inward after taking in the bare dwelling.
"I wouldn't exactly call this... 'done,' Forehead. You have your bed and this monstrous couch. Other than that, you really need to get this place decorated."
'Let the nit-picking begin.'
"Yeah, yeah..." Sakura mumbled around a throw pillow, her face still buried in softness. "I'll order a bunch of stuff later."
There were three different flavors of frozen yogurt chilling in the freezer. And her books and medical journals were unpacked and stored away. As far as she was concerned, everything else could wait.
Ino wasn't convinced but instead concentrated on rolling the canappa before her, grunting at the stickiness.
They still had to officially 'bless the house,' after all.
Sakura turned towards her, raising a hand to cradle her head, cheeks still pink from burrowing into the pillow. It was only when she was spaced out that a particular thought drifted back to the forefront of her mind.
And with all the bustle from today, there hadn't been a quiet moment up until now, to bring it up.
"Did that guy ever call back again?"
As it turned out, Tsume wasn't kidding when she said someone was looking into Kiba's disappearance.
A private investigator reached out to her, asking a series of questions. Sakura told him exactly what she'd already shared, her story and timelines never changing. Not that there was much to tell.
Afterward, she'd given her best friend a heads up, instincts warning that she'd be next.
Much later he did get ahold of Ino, though, she had very little to say. Her answers were similar to Sakura's, as they'd both lost contact with Kiba around the same time.
And she made it clear that she didn't know anything beyond that.
Licking her lips, Ino brought a knee up to her chest, her sock covered foot dragging across the throw rug while she remained mindful of the low table in front of her.
"After the first time? No."
She then extended her tongue to wet the ends of paper as she expertly rolled the joint. Humming in affirmation, she eyed her handy work.
"He was a pushy bastard though. When you talked to him, did you tell him anything? Maybe let something slip you shouldn't have?"
Sakura sat up in surprise.
"What? No..." She shook her head although the blonde was still facing forward, away from her.
An eerie feeling ricocheted in her tummy.
"D-... did you?"
Ino snorted, flicking bits of grass from her nail bed. "I should have," she murmured.
"Ino!"
She was just being a bitch, but it's what she did when she felt annoyed... agitated .
"To be honest, I'm not getting a good feeling about any of it. Not to mention... a P.I. coming around? Asking questions? This is getting to be a bit much."
What's next?
The police?
It was not a good look to have a bunch of authorities hanging about, despite the reason for their presence.
"I know..." Sakura began, the cushions shifting under her movements. "I don't like any of this either... but even Sasuke-"
The blonde spun around so fast she feared whiplash. Sparks of contention lit the glare Ino threw her way.
"We don't know him, Sakura!"
When she yelled, it surprised them both, their eyes wide and staring. It hadn’t been on purpose. Of course it hadn’t been, and Ino couldn't remember the last time she'd been so quick to snap.
So, after taking a much-needed breath, the apology floated in the air between them.
But not for what she said .
No...
She'd meant that.
But… for the way she said it? Maybe she was a bit too harsh. She regretted it the moment it left her lips, so she made another attempt to apologize, keeping her voice even and much calmer.
"We don't know him. Now, I'm not saying he's a bad guy or anything, but he's Kiba's friend..." Ino stressed, "not ours . I think he's cool and all, but we need to think with our heads here, and not with..."
Her eyes lowered to Sakura's lap, hearing the sharp intake of breath when the seated girl immediately stiffened with indignation.
"I'm not!" Sakura tried to defend herself. And if her leg wasn't twisted beneath her body she would have snapped her legs shut.
'Guilty, much?'
"Then we need to think smart. I don’t know about you, but I can't be seen mixed up with anything shady. Having some private eye sniffing around is a no-go for me."
Ino turned back to the low table in front of her, her thumb rolling over the spark wheel twice, before the lighter flickered to life.
Sakura sighed, shoulders dropping as she just let it go. She looked instead to the beautiful vase of flowers sitting close by.
The arrangement of orange roses, honeysuckle — and a few other things she couldn't name were sorted together.
It was a beautiful house warming gift from Ino, and she appreciated the floral scent as it drifted through the air. But she knew even its sweet smell wouldn't stand a chance against the thick haze that was sure to come.
Sakura rolled to her feet, moving around her friend to approach the veranda door to crack it open. Nudging it slightly, she felt the crisp breeze charming its way past the small opening and into the room.
Ino continued her musings on an exhale, swirls of grey, blueish smoke wafting towards the darkened recessed lighting above.
"Sasuke was right about one thing, though..."
She stood up, approaching her friend from behind and passing along the lit herb. "We should stay out of it. Besides, someone is looking for him... his family has it covered."
Darting off to find an ashtray, she left the pink-haired woman to lean against the glass with her private thoughts, gazing at the skyline beyond the metal railings of her patio.
Taking a long drag, Sakura hoped the calming effects would kick in soon and burn away her lingering restlessness.
Everyone, it seemed, was just shying the Kiba issue away or even brushing it all aside. And it made her feel so damn torn inside.
Reaching around, she patted herself down, feeling around for her phone.
Oh, she knew what was going to happen... but she went for it anyway.
There wasn't a choice, was there? Besides, she was nothing if not steadfast.
And while fully aware of what was going to happen once she pressed 'SEND', Sakura didn't hesitate.
Her rather nimble fingers typed away, making another attempt to at least... try to do something.
.
Message:
Just let me know you're ok...
Please?
.
Sakura's hand reached up to remove the joint from her lips, holding her breath with a deep inhale as she re-read the note again.
Sending out the text, she slowly blew out a trail of smoke.
A familiar notification sound cackled in the air as the last cloud left her peach-stained lips. And her eyes caught sight of what showed up on the screen.
The message was undeliverable.
Just like the previous dozen she'd sent before that.
Some of the messages she sent were laced with concern, others spewing threats of sterilization. She quickly discovered that anything sent out was shortly returned after bouncing through mobile data and Wifi signals.
All of her messages went unanswered.
But whatever disappointment or irritation she felt was quickly tempered down as conflict echoed in her mind.
"'...-e.'"
Because wasn't this the same thing she'd done in the past? Completely ghosting everyone close to her?
Absconding without a care in the world, regardless of who it might hurt, or what it could affect?
Sakura had exhibited the same pattern of behavior herself a while ago. And at her worst, she had gone days without responding, keeping her distance.
"'...-ite.'"
The memories surfaced like the smoke drifting past her face as she took another hit, contemplating just how much it sucked... being on the other side now.
"'...-rite.'"
Ino returned, handing Sakura the found ashtray while quickly plucking the weed from her aloof grip. Humming a tune, she went over to go see about playing some music.
But Sakura stayed put, unable to shake the word that haunted her mind.
One that felt weighted like the heavy crystal she held in her grasp. Looking down, she caught the way a few rainbows appeared with every deviation of the ashtray, and every time a flash of color reflected she imagined a voice whispering in cool, mocking tones inside of her head.
"'...-crite.'"
Taunting all the emotions echoing through her, even as she accepted the bitter truth in the word, repeating over and over again...
"'Hypocrite.'"
" The sky is clear and you can see for miles across the grasslands. But as easy as she could look beyond the Serengeti, she could just as easily be spotted.
Shoulders hunched low, the lioness hugs her body close to the ground. Blending in among the straw-colored grass... she inches her way closer. She must eliminate as much distance between her and the intended prey before launching her attack. Her sisters are in tune with her, circling the herd on either side, bellies low to the ground as they stalk closer.
The pack has not eaten for days, and this may be their last chance before the grazing animals migrate north and out of their territory. There are plenty of mouths to feed back at the den and a few hungry cubs who will not survive the rest of the season without a steady supply of food."
The prone figure nibbled on the last of his fish cake sandwich, his heavy boots hanging off the edge of the loveseat. His large frame laid sideways on the furniture, leaning against the armrest as he watched the clip on his screen.
He always was a fan of a good old-fashioned hunt. There were just some things in life, that only Mother Nature could do with such... finesse .
You could learn a lot if you sat back and watched her work.
"The wildebeests were on alert, taking turns to raise their heads to keep on the lookout."
He listened to the thick, South African accent as it narrated the encounter playing on the phone. The screen zoomed in as long blades of grass hung from the wildebeests’ chewing mouths while they kept an eye on the young calves. Soon, the camera panned out to show how close the hunters had gotten.
"It is far too late to be overly cautious now. The lioness and her sisters were in striking range and had only to pick their target.
Digging their long claws into the heated dirt below, they sprint across the plain.
The chase was on..."
His phone suddenly chirped, and a notification for a new message appeared at the top.
The man’s narrowing squint flickered up but quickly went back to the action.
The screen flashed to the pounding of hooves kicking up clouds of dry dirt. And he focused, excited to watch what happened next.
"The ground vibrates as the herd stampede away, now catching sight of the fawn and black death machines barreling towards them. The chaos is enough for one to lose its footing, one back leg twisting beneath its lumbering body."
The front hooves clambered against the ground while the frightened animal tried to gain leverage, but it was too late.
"The seasoned lioness is there in a blink, ready to capitalize on the last mistake the prey would ever make in its life."
Slow-motion captured the way the lioness’s claws hooked into the large antelope, trying to gain purchase as her jaws opened wide across the prey’s neck.
The beast finally got to all four hooves just in time to feel the weight of another lioness as she bit at its spine, her body hanging from its rear.
Losing strength and blood, the scared animal let out a long moan as the lions worked together to bring it down. A third lioness bit at its heels and soon the pressure was enough. A billow of dirt rose in the air as all of their combined weight crashed to the dusty, hot earth below.
The narrator's voice decreased in volume once again, as another message notification came through — the rhythmic beeping much louder than the nature video, still playing on the screen in full-screen mode.
Sighing, the man sat up straighter, swinging his legs to the floor to check.
Message:
Any updates?
Message:
Or has this been a waste of time?
'Damn.'
And the documentary special was starting to get to the good parts too. Locking the screen, he stood tall in a stretch, straightening the henley shirt he wore and trudged to the adjoining room.
The small apartment was oftentimes used as a temporary working space. Although rarely used for the more... messy parts of their job, it was quite convenient for quick meetups. And with the newest development, it made for a well suited temporary office.
Located just behind a deli, but with a hidden entrance and secured parking, it had only made the best sense to set up shop here, for now.
The next room was much darker with the blinds drawn the way they were, but multiple computer monitors glared with artificial light as the man came to stand behind the seated teen. A pretty penny had gone into the elaborate setup — more than a few parts couldn’t be bought in just any store.
There were a few programs open that he was familiar with while scanning the screens, but most he was not.
And as intelligent as the man thought himself to be, he would never presume to understand what any of the letter and number combinations meant, trailing across the monitor on the left.
"Looks like you are up and running. What's the status?"
"I think I've found a way in," Chef replied, his eyes never leaving the screens as he typed away. His favorite song had just begun to play in his ear, and he was seconds away from turning it up before the guy showed up behind him.
" Think ?" The man's arms folded and his lips melted into a frown.
"Yeah. What? I can't go back and get in the same way I did before, my dude. They've already patched that shit. I also don't want to set off any alarms. Gotta be sneaky," Chef offered in a huff.
Besides, he'd already tried the old route and got locked out. But when inside before, he had discovered some other cracks — and hoped to take advantage of one of them now.
"But you can do it?"
"Yeah. I can do it."
The teen went back to work when he felt the figure move away, turning up the volume to catch the tail end of his song. This was exactly why he never took up private offers before. But... the money should be worth having to deal with someone breathing down his neck, in the end.
The man turned away, sheathing the hidden knife back into its pouch in silence, leaving the room just as quietly as he entered. Hopefully, the teens’ confidence would produce some good results... and soon.
A real shame too, that he didn't know...
His very life depended on it.
✧・゚* : *゚・✧
He was counting stacks of collected funds in his living room when one of his phones went off.
With their associate still missing, Itachi gave Sasuke the task of fulfilling a few orders and handling some assignments. He'd been on the run for the last few days, completing transactions that were left to be done in Kiba's absence. Just because he was missing didn't mean the business stopped and even grunt work needed to be seen to.
He'd used the opportunity to do a little digging on said person's disappearance, but not finding satisfactory answers left him feeling a little perturbed.
He had been in a sour mood as of late and could think of nothing that might turn things around.
So seeing her initials flash across his chirping phone's screen was bittersweet — he couldn’t tell whether Sakura calling him at this very moment was a good thing or not.
There hadn't been a chance for him to reach out to her. Though, no matter how busy he was, he knew he should have found the time.
And maybe a part of him was feeling guilty for only texting a few things in the last few days...
But she had his number too, damnit. He had made sure of it when he physically saved it on her phone the last time they were together.
It was a personal number that not too many people had access to, at that.
She could have easily called sooner too, but that was neither here nor there.
Maybe her voice would be the ray of sunshine needed in the otherwise shithole-pit-of-darkness his mood had been sinking into.
"Hello?"
Sasuke's voice was unhurried and a little scratchy — coming out husky after not being used for the last two hours since he'd gotten home and showered. He thought he might be coming down with something and made a mental note to drink some hot tea later.
In the future, Sakura will share with him just how much his voice alone could make her feel sometimes — even when heard over the phone. No way she could tell him that right now, though. There was too much power in that bit of information and she resisted the urge to clear her own throat, hoping the whimsical flutters would go away soon.
" Sasuke... "
Maybe one day — around the same time, Sasuke would finally admit how fond he was of hearing her say his name, regardless of its nature or the mood.
Nonetheless, an eyebrow hitched as he wrapped a thick wad of bills with a beige rubber band.
"What? Did you misdial or something...?"
If the answer was yes he wasn't sure he could handle it — not with how this week was going.
But she said no, and he could just see the smile on her face when she released a small laugh. He imagined the soft, cupids bow he could still remember the feel of... if he tried.
Maybe it was a good thing she called, after all. Even after a bit of chatter, he could already feel some of the day's tension releasing from his moody form.
" Actually, the reason I'm calling was... "
Why haven't you called?
Why haven't you taken me out on a proper date yet?
Already he could hear that — and the other half-dozen questions, all in his mind before she finished.
He could almost feel his answers forming, and hoped they wouldn't sound like excuses when he said them out loud. Because... damnit, he'd been meaning to see a bit more of her. But with everything going on-
" -I... well, actually, Kankurō wanted to know if you were coming to his birthday party? He said you already received his invitation. And his order, which — by the way, I won't even ask what's on that list ."
She trailed off but picked back up with a giggle.
" Anyway, he wanted to make sure you didn't forget, and were going to be there. "
Wait.
What?
Having the question ring inside of his mind was not enough, and his mouth opened to express the dumbfounded stutter his brain felt.
"What?"
She'd called him only... for that ?
It's all anyone was talking about, she said; oblivious with his disappointment. Sasuke listened as his hands slowed down to a full stop, trying to keep the frown at bay.
After the last few — irritating days he's had...
That's the reason they were finally speaking?
Kankurō ?
Maybe talking when he was in low spirits wasn't the best idea after all. Something in his clipped tone must have given him away because after a bit of silence she hesitantly asked.
" Is everything ok? You sound a bit... distracted? "
"Yes."
'No.'
Bloody hell, that's not what he'd meant. No... it is what he meant, but he didn't mean to say it like that-
"Just finishing up something."
" Oh ..."
'Fuck.'
Things were quickly spinning out of control and he needed to figure out a way to salvage it.
Or just end it... before he said something completely Sasuke like, and ruined it for everybody.
"Oh... well, it sounds like this is a bad time. I'm sorry-"
"Don't be-"
' Gentle ... you idiot, nicer!? '
"-I mean, it's fine." Sasuke continued after the slight pause.
Ok, so that wasn't much better and he winced when a rubber band popped, stinging his hand before reaching for another one.
Sakura waited a beat but wasn't convinced. " Ok... well, I guess I'll see you there? Sorry to disturb you."
Sasuke fumbled with the phone for a second yet wasn't quick enough to stop her from ending the call, and he sat there after feeling like he just dropped the ball in a major way.
He groaned, dropping everything in his hands and grabbing at his locks while sinking further into the sofa. It was no use trying to text her back because even he knew when to cut his losses.
At least no one was there to witness the embarrassment... but he could hear the guffaw his cousin Shisui would have released if he could see him now.
'Real smooth, Uchiha... real smooth.'
The Copper Wars
Chapter 3
Tw:MC gets triggered.
By the time it was night jerico had finished the blueprints for his New invention.
A thirty feet tall robot, called The Forge, he couldnt wait to make It,but first he should change,and Grab something to eat,maybe even go to town and see whats up.
He took a quick shower,and changed,walking to the kitchen with his cats following behind him
--Hey guys whats up--jeri said non chalantly.
The mercs couldnt help but stare, he was wearing tight black pants,a dark green sweater, his hair tied in a bun while some stands fell loosely on his face.
--We uh...we were just about to eat-- engie mustered up, Serving the food.
--Nice, oh also! Ill go into town, anybody wanna come with me?
The men , except for pyro,soldier and heavy looked at eachother,before an argument broke out about who should accompany him.
--ya should let me go!, im super fun to be around!
--What ye goen ta get is this little shite talking yer ears off-Demo said drinking from his beer.
--Oh yeah? Well ya cant even stay still!youre drunk off ya ass!
--Id offer myself,I could use a break from workin'
--Ja!so would I!
--I zhink I could use some fresh air zoo
Jer stood there thinking--What if all of Us go?we could also use it to know eachother.
The mercs look at eachothern,and with grumpy looks they nodd.
And so, after eating off they went to town.
When they arrived the place was absolutely bustling with life,in the main plaza there was music playing, and jerico really wanted to dance!
The tune was so catchy!, and it reminded him of how much he and his dad would dance.
He took a quick look to his companions,but he could tell nobody was onboard.
So he just,stands there, pouting and his arms crossed.
Until a hand softly poses on his shoulder,he looks at engie who smiles and lends out his gloved hand.
Jer suddenly smiles, a huge smile on his face as he takes It.
The rest couldnt help but feel their chest warm up,he had a beautiful smile.
The music changes to a more softer one,and engie sweats bullets as jeri puts his arms around his neck.
--oh shit sorry i--
--No no,its alright uh aint used to dance with a Man thats all
--Theres always a first time,though if you want you can go back with the rest
--Its alright...this...this is fine
Both danced slowly,hesitant and unsure,but eventually they warmed up,and absolutely Killed it!.
Jerico was having so much fun.
Suddenly the texan Man dips him in, and he hugs his neck as jeri feels hes going to fall.
Engineers arms hug his waist,and with red cheeks they got back on their feet.
The texan knew hed get teased by scout, but seeing his companion happy made him feel giggly like a schoolgirl.
While walking through the local feria,jer fidgeted as he saw the stalls,so Many Many pretty things!.
He ran around, scout following him as he also got excited by all the things people sold.
--anyzhing Catching your interest?--spy sneaked behind the New merc, his french accent made a shiver run down his spine.
--Beejeezus!you scared me!
--my most sincere apologies,but please answer
Jeri just shrugged--Nothing really I mean they are pretty but,nothings like...'wow I want to buy that',besides you dont need to get me anything
--Consider it a welcome gift,if you need anyzhing or change your mind,let me know,our revoir
And the frenchman left.
While the rest were exploring,jeri sat on the empty stage, he then saw a Man,struggling to get his kid to calm down, the same Man was trying to play something on his guitar to no avail.
So he approached the dad, and asked if he needed help.
--You can try
Unaware of his team watching him, he sat on the floor with the kid,And softly played the guitar.
Jeri smiled,the kid mumbled things in what could be understood as spanish, and an idea appeared on his face.
--Hoy voy a hablarte
De mis héroes, que me vieron crecer
Desde el león que se hizo rey
Hasta la princesa que rompió la ley--He sang,gaining the kids attention--
Si me preguntas a mí
De ellos aprendí
Que hay personas por las que vale la pena derretirse
Que todo es posible, incluso lo imposible
Las virtudes a veces están bajo la suficiente
La belleza esta en el interior
Recuérdame aunque te diga adiós
Debo dejar de ser algo que no soy
Llorar me tranquiliza los problemas de la vida
Elimina de tu vida si elimina tu sonrisa
Hay una lágrima por cada risa
Eres más valiente de lo que crees
Porque tenemos que crecer
La segunda estrella a la derecha todo recto hasta el amanecer
Aférrate a aquello que te hace diferente
Si esperas el momento oportuno, era ese
Ohana significa familia, familia estar juntos siempre
Que tu alma libre esté
Que nunca es tarde para ser joven--his team had Walked closer.
The kid slowly calmed down as he sang, and quietly joining him.
Jer had a huge smile on his face,pouring his heart and soul as he sang with the kid who did the same,enjoying the music-- Boo
Sigue nadando
Sigue nadando
Quiero ser cómo, tú
Hakuna matata
Vive y deja vi bibidibabidibu
Hay un amigo en mí
Tan blandito que me quiero morir
De ellos aprendí!
Both ended their singing and the kid started to giggle and laugh, jerico gave the Man back his guitar and watched them walk away, with a warm feeling on his chest.
--recruit is good with little kids--heavy said.
--back in my home I had a lot of siblings,you end up learning I guess
And they spend the rest of the night enjoying the town.
Once back at his bedroom, just as hes about to sleep, he notices a pacage on his desk.
How...how did that get in here?
He got out of bed and Turned on the desk lamp.
--Que carajo...?--(what The fuck?),he then opened the small box to find a beautiful book,with carved details,painted gold.
'Since you too design things I figured this would suit you best.
Spy'
Said the note on the wrapper of the box.
He smiled and left it there,already too tired.
He then when back to bed, and fell asleep with his cats on his chest.
The morning sun filtered through the old blinds,jer hears his alarm go off,smacking the button of his alarm with a groan.
Suddenly he jumps as loud noises and shouts reached his room.
--la re puta madre!--he cursed sitting Straight,vica stands on their two back feet and with his front paws Cling to his unbuttoned shirt.
Jer picks them up,as illa jumps on his shoulder,and he walks to the source of the noise.
--Can I know what the fuck is going on?--Jerico asked,grumpy and a bit anxious.
--zhis idiot tried to Cook a pie,and somehow left zhe fork inside of it--medic said looking at scout.
Suddenly, scout screamed at the top of his lungs to defend himself,with a stupid argument.
Jer jumps back and hugs his cat, who purss and licks his hand.
His breath hitched as hes barely able to say--scout shut up!
His broken voice is enough to make the whole Room shut up and look at him.
--leetle Man feels bad,whats up?‐-heavy tried to Grab his shoulder but jeri stepped away.
--Scout give him a glass of vater-medic approached jerico softly, guiding Him to sit on the table--...how jou feeling now?
The New merc drinks the glass of water as he brokenly tries to steady his breath.
Vica sits on his lap,and illa jumps on the table, purring into the hand thats holding his head.
--I...I think im alright--jeri straightened his back--sorry,shouting And and loud noises make me anxious, try and Keep it quiet for now please?
--Ja, Ve'll zry, oh, by zhe vay,breakfasts ready
Engenieer was so kind to make the New merc breakfast with some home made applepie(without the fork inside of it)
Jerico Drank his tea, while his carts sat besides him curled up in a ball.
--So,jerico right?--engie said
--Yeah,whats up?
--Why dontcha tell Us about yourself huh?
Jers hand buttonned Up his shirt as he finally realized he was still in his pjs.
--Well,i moved in with my dad when I was a teen,worked in a bakery--scout chuckled condecenfingly--wich means I can make better pies than scout,and I Will not leave a fork inside of it,a part time artist, when I was like....twenty I did my phd in Steam powered engenieering,and when I could id go learn blacksmithing in one of my dads Friends house,nothing much
Jeri laughed snorting--well yeah blacksmithing is pretty cool
The Bostonian boy sunk in his chair and hid his face with his cap, as his cheeks Turned Pink.
--Oh and engie,I have the blueprints done,we can get to work in the wiring after this
--Alrighty then!
The rest of the breakfast was spent in quiet chatter, and jerico went to take a shower, closing the courtain.
The warn water hit his body and his shoulders and back relaxed.
He stretched his neck and washed his hair.
After the bath, he changed and went to Grab the blueprints and the notes he'd made in the notebook spy gave him.
as the rain hides the stars | xiii
Read the full story here...
xiii: two strangers in the bright lights
I wish I knew you when I was young,
we could’ve got so high.
Now you’re here it’s been so long,
two strangers in the bright lights.
-The Revivalists, “Wish I Knew You”
The revelry of the races last night helped bring Jon a sense of normalcy. As though they’d never traveled south and all of the revelations and situations were just fever dreams. However, they shouldn’t have stayed out as late as they did. When he awoke at his habitual time, the world felt heavier. He still pulled himself away from his bed so he could finally go on his run without the threat of anyone intruding.
He stuck to his usual route, a few laps around the exterior castle walls so he could keep in sight of the stationed guards atop. It was easier than being trailed through the Wolfswood. Running alone allowed him to hold off the bigger issues plaguing his life and focus on the small details; the way his feet fell on the frost covered grass, the rhythm of his breathing, the way the chilly morning air bit at his face.
Wanting to steer clear of the Great Keep as much as possible, he entered through the Hunter’s Gate on the west side of the castle when he finished. What awaited him was person number two on the long list of people he was trying to avoid. His father being number one at the moment.
The Princess Daenerys was seated at the little wooden table where kitchen staff took their breaks, her hands wrapped around a steaming mug. She looked up when he entered.
“Good morning,” she said, her voice even.
It made Jon pause. He was expecting a little more resentment and coldness.
“I didn’t take you for an early riser,”
“I’m not usually,” she admitted, “But I try to make it a habit.”
She tucked her hair behind her ear before carefully sipping from her mug. She pulled her knees up to her chest and Jon saw the fuzzy socks patterned like tabby cat paws on her feet. Matched with her red and black flannel pajama bottoms and green Braavos Titans sweatshirt, she looked more like an absent minded eccentric than a polished princess. She looked more approachable and human.
“Nice socks,” he nodded and leaned against the counter.
“Oh.” The princess glanced down as though she’d forgotten what pair she had on.
“Uh, thanks. Did you have a nice run?”
He furrowed his brows at her.
“You came in here sweaty and breathing hard, so I assumed that’s where you’d been,” she stated, motioning to the obvious sweat mark on the front of his shirt.
“Yeah, it was … a good run.”
A few members of the kitchen staff filed in to prepare breakfast for the rest of the court, who were starting their days too.
Jon knew it was best to get out of their way. While he ranked higher than them, they weren’t afraid to get nasty if he stood between them and their tasks. He sat in the other chair, watching as the workers busied themselves and tried not to stare too long at the foreign visitor and prince conversing.
“Why are you really up this early?”
“I can’t enjoy my coffee in the solitude of an empty kitchen at the ass crack of dawn?” she rolled her eyes at the absurdity of her statement, a light smile peeking over the edge of her mug.
Jon’s face betrayed him with the grin it displayed at her sarcastic comment.
“Actually, I’m trying to enjoy some peace and quiet before Sansa gets ahold of me. I think she’s got every minute until we leave booked.”
At that moment, a very distinct head of copper hair entered the kitchen, gazing over the tops of the workers heads almost frantically.
“Speak of the stranger,” she muttered, sliding her mug out of the way.
Sansa was by her side immediately, already talking about all that she had planned.
They were on the move before he knew it, on their way to the foothills of the Northern Mountains for the Midsummer celebrations. The huge festival was attended by lords and common folk alike. It had what all the Northerners loved, tradition. Traditional music, food, clothing, and even traditional dancers. Although they were professionals hired by the festival planners, that never stopped a few drunken lords from joining in.
After her bonding experience with the Starks last night, Daenerys was fitting right in. Jon hadn’t seen the Princess Daenerys since their run in that morning but her and Sansa’s laughter could be heard throughout the castle. The reason for their jovialness was evident when they’d gathered to leave. Sansa had turned the woman into her own fashion doll.
The festival and its focus on tradition meant that Sansa got to break out the traditional dress. The woolen skirt she wore was starched white with lines of grey and pale green criss-crossing over it, the colors of House Stark. A sash of the same fabric crossing over her blouse and secured at her waist with a brooch the shape of the Stark direwolf.
She’d given their guest nearly the same treatment. She’d dug a similar length wool skirt out of somewhere, but the one Daenerys wore was a deep blue and devoid of any lines of other colors. A safe bet, since it wouldn’t be confused with any other House’s pattern. Her white hair was braided in its usual way but they were woven into a different pattern, forming a shape akin to a heart. If it weren’t for her light hair and odd colored eyes, she would look every bit a true Northerner.
Jon was assigned the task of escorting their guest around the festival and ensuring all introductions went smoothly. He asked Sansa to stick close by just in case, she was a natural at turning any awkward situation out. But they found that her services were needed. Only kind pleasantries were exchanged so far and Daenerys appeared to be charming everyone she met with ease.
As they were leaving yet another Lord and Lady behind, Daenerys took note of a young girl passing around wreaths made of flowers. When the young girl stopped in front of them, the Princess immediately bent down to meet her at eye level.
“Hello,” Daenerys greeted.
The young girl curtseyed and wordlessly held one of her creations out to the woman in front of her. A wreath of small blue flowers interspersed with white and green, shiny blue ribbons binding the whole thing together.
They weren’t too far from the dancers, Jon noticed. The sounds of pipes and fiddles drifting toward them.
“For me?”
The young girl nodded again, holding the flowers out further. Daenerys took it from the girl with delicate hands and examined it.
“Did you make this?”
Nod.
“It’s very beautiful but I’m afraid I don’t know how to wear it,” Daenerys frowned.
Jon feared for a second that she was going to return the wreath to the little girl. But she surprised him yet again.
“I would be honored if you put it on for me,” she smiled and gracefully bowed her head.
The little girl placed the ring of flowers atop Daenerys’ braids, her round face growing red.
“Thank you very much.”
The little girl curtseyed again and ran off to find her mother. Jon was floored by this woman, who at one moment was as poisonous as a snake and yet as gentle as a cloud the next.
Similar interactions followed wherever they went. While Jon held onto his belief that she was playing a part that she’d rehearsed so well it was believable, he found his stubborn grasp slipping with each person they encountered.
Jon heard the music change and watched as Sansa grabbed Daenerys’ hand.
“Come on,” Sansa said excitedly, “I want to dance.”
As she was dragged away, Daenerys looked back over her shoulder, a nervous smile on her face. At least there wouldn’t be any introductions for a while.
It was later when he found himself talking with the patriarch of Clan Norrey, a tankard of summer ale in his hand. The old reels of the North filled his ears thanks to their proximity to the band. He chanced a glance at the dancers. The professionals were on break, so it was just common folk and lords swinging each other around with the sun burning behind them.
During one of the passes, a flash of white hair caught his eye. He watched as Daenerys was spun by Sansa before switching directions and ending up in the arms of a large man. Jon recognized him as Lord Umber. Who was oddly graceful despite his size, age, and drunkenness. There were words exchanged between them and whatever the Princess said had the GreatJon roaring in laughter before she was spun off.
The music ended with a flourish and the dancers all bowed to each other, applause and cheers rising into the air.
“She sure is something, that Southern girl.” Old Norrey commented.
“You have no idea,” Jon replied.
“What would a city girl like her want to come up here for?”
“I’m still trying to figure that out myself,” he lied.
“I hate to say it but I hope she sticks around.”
Another song started up, the laughter of the festival goers rising above the music as they started dancing again.
“What are you doing standing here talking to me for? You should be out there dancing-”
“I’m not a dancer,”
“-and wooing the next Queen of the North.”
Jon wondered how Old Norrey would react if he told him the future queen was already spinning herself dizzy with the other ladies. And that she was the southern girl he was so impressed with. The old man would probably have a heart attack. Daenerys visiting the North was one thing, but marrying it was a whole other beast.
Jon was about to make another remark about their guest, when she bounded up to him, breathless from the dancing.
“I need to talk to you,” she announced, gravity in her breathless tone.
“Okay…”
She looked at Norrey and back to Jon, “Alone, preferably.”
Jon nodded despite his confusion and led her away from the crowded space, towards the edges of the festival. With less people and less activity, it was more quiet and calm. As they walked, Jon noted the sturdy boots she wore.
They walked in silence for a while, Daenerys’ gaze fixed straight ahead. She’d taken the ring of flowers from her head, holding it in her hands. He could tell she was trying not to fidget with it. Finally, she took a deep breath.
“I believe I owe you an apology,” she started.
Jon was taken aback, “For?”
“To quote you, being a raging bitch.”
He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, and found she was doing the same.
“I was really overwhelmed with everything and I took it out on the wrong person. You didn’t deserve that. And I’d like to apologize for being so stubborn.”
“Really?”
They paused their stroll by one of the several bonfires burning across the stretch of land. The flickering orange light washed over Daenerys’ features, the blank canvas of her hair taking on the lively color.
“Well, there’s a little more to it than that,” she looked at him for a moment.
Sensing her hesitation, Jon said, “Go on.”
“I know I’ve only been here a few days and there’s so much more to see of the North but it’s beautiful here. I’ve spent the last few years running around the world, trying to get away from the Southern Court, when this was right next door the whole time.”
She looked around the landscape before she started walking again.
“Everyone keeps asking me if I’m actually going to marry you,” she commented.
“Everyone?”
“Well, the Queen, Arya, Theon, Talisa. And my answer was always, I don’t know. This whole treaty ordeal is tricky and my brother will make it happen one way or another, but I thought I could figure a way out. But sometime last night, I started thinking, what would happen if I just bit the bullet? What would happen if I dropped my weapons and stopped fighting?”
“What are you saying?”
“The North is the only place I’ve felt like no one’s watching my every move. No one cares if I swear or talk too loud or slide down the hallways in my socks!”
“Wait, you weren’t allowed to do that?”
“Technically yes. My handlers didn’t want me to feel like I had too many rules to follow so everything was just highly discouraged,” she informed in a stuffy accent Jon imagined belonged to one of her ‘handlers’.
“Got it. So you never did it?”
“Oh, I did it once. Then I got lectured and was too scared to do it again.”
Too scared? Daenerys didn’t seem like someone who was scared of anything.
“I’m sorry, what were we talking about?”
“You were talking about the alliance,” Jon reminded her.
“Right. I wanted to tell you that I’m saying yes.” she took a deep breath. “I’m agreeing to the engagement.”
“You are?”
“Yes.”
“I don’t know what to say,”
“You don’t have to say anything. I’ll tell your father and my brother tomorrow morning. ”
Her voice lowered as a group of girls about Sansa’s age passed them by. They whispered excitedly once they thought they were out of ear shot.
“The common folk love you,” he commented.
“For now. Tomorrow, when the alcohol has worn off and the news is released they’ll turn on me. And your court already hates me. No matter how nice their words, I can see their true intentions in their eyes. They dislike me for the same reasons I am loved. Beauty, kindness, and the splendor of a foreign land.”
“But you’re not doing it for the people of the court,”
“Correct. I’m doing it for your people, who have charmed me beyond imagination.”
It wasn’t how Jon imagined a proposal might go. There was no romance to it, though the ambiance was certainly there. No ring, no ‘will you marry me’. He wished he could breathe easier but the previous weight on his chest had only been replaced with another. He’d done what he needed to do and was headed into unknown territory.
“Are you absolutely sure about this?” he asked.
“Of course I am. I want to do what’s right, even if it means being married to you for the rest of my life.”
She nudged him with her shoulder, grinning at her own joke.
“Thank you for that,” he said, returning her attitude.
“Oh lighten up!”
“Daenerys-”
“And please, call me Dany, all my friends do.”
Lies, lies, lying little beast Lying little man on the corner of the street Singing "Why, I can't come out to play Can't come out and say that I'm afraid of what they'll say"
-Run River North, "Lying Beast"
————————–
Then.
Stephanie walked purposefully down the dormitory hallway towards her destination, which she had learned of through Cass after the other had shockingly announced she was now… “involved” with someone and asked point-blank for her advice. Steph had been surprised (not to mention maybe a tad jealous) that she had been granted visitation rights before her – especially when she herself wasn’t even sure if she had reached an official “dating” stage yet with her suitor- er, tutor (although they had undergone several “study sessions” together by this point) – but nevertheless was happy for her roommate. …Besides, her profile’s “single” status would hopefully change today.
Checking her hair and outfit, she nervously fixed and fidgeted a little in front of the doorway, before taking a deep breath and knocking on the entry. After a moment, it slowly creaked open a crack to reveal a rather confused-looking Tim.
“Steph? What are you doing here?”
“Hey! I just came to ask you something quick, if you’re not too busy.” She beamed her best and brightest.
Tim’s eyes darted anxiously aside as he swallowed.
“Uh, now’s not really a great time…”
“Who’s that, Tim? A friend of yours?”
Stephanie blinked as a stunningly beautiful woman unexpectedly emerged from behind Tim, ravishing red locks and coquettish lips smiling cordially.
“Ah, you must be Stephanie! Tim’s told me a lot about you.”
Steph’s gaze shifted suspiciously to Tim, who looked like his world had just come crashing down around him.
“…Has he now?”
The stranger grinned widely as she extended her slender palm, revealing twin rows of perfect pearl teeth.
“I’m Barbara Gordon. Pleasure to meet you.”
Tentatively, Steph took it.
“...Nice to meet you. Wait, ‘Gordon’ – as in the new Police Commissioner?”
The woman nodded.
“Bingo, you’re looking at her.” Her voice abruptly took on an authoritative tone. “I’m here on official police business, conducting a top-secret investigation. You wouldn’t happen to have seen any suspicious individuals around, would you?”
“Babs,” Tim cut in sharply as Steph started to sweat and panic. “That’s enough. Quit frightening her.” (Although rather than relieve her apprehension, it only increased further at such informal address.)
…On a first-name basis?
“Kidding, kidding. I’m giving a guest lecture on Criminology over in the West Wing. Speaking of which,” Barbara glanced at her wristwatch, “I should probably get going. Class starts in 10 minutes. I just came by to say ‘hi’ to Tim.”
She began to gather up her things, bustling out the exit with a wink to Tim on the way, who only winced and shrank further in response.
“I’ll leave you two kids alone. Take care, Tim. I’ll stop by again some other time.”
Steph watched her figure’s wake until it was gone, silently envying sophisticated style and… mature body shape as it sashayed away.
“She’s awfully pretty,” she mused aloud, suddenly feeling even more self-conscious. “What exactly is your relationship with her?”
Don’t tell me he’s actually into older women. There’s no way I can compete with that.
Tim rolled his eyes with a sigh.
“It’s not what you think. She’s like an older sister.”
“…Seriously?”
How strangely ‘convenient’ all his supposed ‘relatives’ seem to be gorgeous supermodels.
“Trust me, there’s nothing like that between us.”
She gauged his earnest expression, before accepting assurance.
“All right, I believe you.” Her smile returned as she relaxed. “In that case…”
She fished around in her pocket, pulling out two tickets she won at the Theta-Kapa-Gamma Harvest Festival last week.
“Ta da~! Tickets to see the monster movie marathon at the old Monarch Theater on Saturday! You are free, aren’t you?”
Tim blinked as she practically shoved the tiny pieces of perforated paper in his face, fanning gleefully in invitation. Temptation.
“I am, but…”
He gulped, hesitating as he seemed to desperately search for an excuse.
“I’m… not really a fan of old films…”
He mumbled lamely, appearing extremely uneasy for some reason.
Oh crap. Don’t tell me I screwed up again.
Steph’s confidence sank in disappointment, recalling how she had once enthusiastically tried to engage Tim in a spontaneous water pistol fight going on in the campus courtyard (despite the season being somewhat ill-suited for the sport), having snuck up on him whilst the victim was reading unawares underneath the shade of a nearby tree, hitting him with a lighthearted squirt. He had sat there, stunned, as he stared at the childish toy weapon in her hand, before wiping his soaked cheek with the back of his sleeve. Slamming his book shut, he stated with such startlingly quiet, intense anger it took her aback:
“I don’t like guns.”
…Before standing up and stalking off in silence.
Still, she had hoped this would make up for it, that it could be something they’d both enjoy, spend some real quality time doing together (besides studying anyway, which she was starting to get sick and tired of as tests approached). Who didn’t care for a good old-fashioned camp scare around Halloween? …Maybe he just needed to give it a chance.
“Hey, don’t knock it ‘till you’ve tried it. Have you ever even seen Dracula or Frankenstein?”
He shook his head.
“Whaaat, you’re missing out on some classics! Come on, it’ll be fun. We’ve both been working so hard, we deserve a break. Cass has a pair of passes too, so she and Conner are going to be there as well. We can totes double together.” (Incidentally, it had been a little odd how her partner had been so fortunate as to receive the exact same prize at the booth’s trivia guessing game right after her, but she’d learned not to question Cassandra’s keen – if sometimes creepily uncanny – sense of intuition.)
Tim bit his lip, but acquiesced at her pleading puppy eyes, which shone with eager stars of anticipation.
“…Okay.”
“Great! It’s a date then.” She exclaimed excitedly as she handed him his half of the voucher.
“A… date.”
He repeated robotically, surveying the stub as if in disbelief.
“I’ll see you on Saturday then.”
She waved as she skipped off, emboldened by sweet success. In her jubilee, she accidentally ran straight into Conner as he coincidentally came round the corner, heading back to his room as well.
“Whoa, watch it there!”
He caught her just before she fell (unlike before, this sturdy target was obviously a lot harder to knock over), and she blushed a tinge as she felt his huge, strong arms wrap around her shoulder.
Man, what is it with me and bumping into hot guys recently? …Not that I’m complaining, mind.
She wasn’t sure whether to be overjoyed or embarrassed by this recurring situation, but settled for leaning towards the former. Conner, on the other hand, seemed a little less thrilled upon realizing the person in his grasp.
“Oh, it’s you. …Actually, good timing. I want to talk to you about Tim.”
He raised her up, but kept a firm grip on her collar as he drew her back round the bend. …It was almost a little painful, the amount of pressure his paw was putting on her petite stature. His countenance was severely solemn as he stooped forward to meet her level.
“…Look, I’m just gonna come right out and say it so you don’t get the wrong idea. Tim’s… ‘delicate’. I mean, really delicate.” He frowned, icy blue irises flaring dangerously as his dense, digging fingers deepened into the folds of her blouse, contracting and contacting to the bone. “You need to watch what you say and do around him. I swear, if you ever do anything intentionally to hurt him, I will never forgive you. You got that?”
She recoiled, reasoning he was likely referring to the gun stunt.
Is he… making a genuine threat?
Steph was somewhat scared now as his shadow loomed over her, backing her against the wall. She nodded meekly.
“U- understood.”
“Good.”
He released her, and she rubbed at the sore spot on her skin, wondering if it was going to leave a bruise. She was also starting to wonder what the heck Cass saw in this big dumb brute. He was admittedly attractive, sure, but personality-wise he was Tim’s complete opposite: loud, brash, obnoxious – not to mention arrogant – basically your stereotypical jock. And yet…
“You really care a lot about Tim, don’t you?”
Conner sniffed. “Of course I do. He’s my best friend.”
…’Friend’, huh?
The way he behaved seemed to go far beyond mere “friendship” though. He was almost acting like an overprotective guardian. …Or a possessive one.
“Could it be that you’re… jealous?”
“Me? Jealous? Of you?” Conner scoffed. “Why on earth would I be jealous? Just because you’re the one getting him to finally open up and trust you, participate in a bunch of social activities he never normally would, even though I’ve tried so hard to motivate him to be more outgoing over these past few years? To convince him to talk to me about his problems? To be the kind of stupid-ass cliché you huma- people find so damn popular just so no one else would dare to mess with him?”
He laughed like a bark, though it sounded slightly strained. Pained. Stephanie softened at such a display of devotion.
…Maybe he’s not such an oaf after all.
“For what it’s worth, I think you’ve done a lot more for him than you give yourself credit for. I’m sure he appreciates having you as a pal.”
She cautioned a comforting pat on his broad muscle.
“Don’t worry, it’s not like I’m trying to steal him away from you or anything. Besides, you’re doing the same thing for Cass, aren’t you? Trying to help her break out of her shell? Heck, I’ve noticed she’s been a lot more vocal ever since you two started seeing each other.”
Conner rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
“You think? I mean, I guess you could say that. I dunno, it feels like I’m not really right for her… She’s so serious and deep, and – and next to her I feel like a total doofus most of the time…”
Stephanie couldn’t help but sympathize. They were a weird couple, to be sure, but then the same could easily be said about her and Tim.
“Hey, far be it from me to judge, but even if it doesn’t seem like you’re made for each other off the bat, I think you owe it to yourselves to try and explore those feelings at least. You never know, maybe it will work out.”
…It might’ve been her imagination, but the margins of his mouth seemed to twitch a bit at the word “made”. He coughed as he replied contritely though.
“Thanks. And, uh, sorry about being rough earlier.”
“It’s all right.” She smirked. “You were just defending your ‘delicate’ flower’s honor.”
A humiliated flush crept onto his visage.
“Oi, despite what you may have heard, it’s not like that.”
“It’s okay,” she giggled in understanding. “I feel the same way about Cass. …I suppose you could consider it even then?”
“Um… I suppose.” He looked confounded by the straightforward confession, but shrugged, not wanting to think too hard about it anymore, lest things get overly complicated. “So… We good then?”
She smiled.
“Yeah. We’re good.”
…
When the weekend rolled around, Stephanie dragged Cassandra clothes shopping before the big day, insisting on doing her hair and makeup as well. By the time they arrived at the cinema, the boys were already there waiting, checking their watches out in the cold. While she sheepishly apologized on both behalves for being “fashionably late”, Steph figured it was worth it when she saw their slack jaws at how much fashion had transformed them. The guys were dressed decently to impress as well, both sporting smart leather jackets (although Tim’s looked a size too big for him, and Conner still had on that ruddy black Superman T-shirt underneath that seemed like it came from a little kid’s closet).
She took the initiative in lining up with Tim to order snacks and soda, in the meantime telling the other two to go find four seats together. Luckily they didn’t have to wait long, as there didn’t seem to be many customers despite it being a Saturday. (To be fair those tickets were probably pretty cheap and undesirable to given away free at some college fest.) Although she kept chatting cheerfully to try and pass the time, her other company seemed even more uncomfortable than usual in the lightly crowded lobby, hardly able to carry a conversation – let alone the food – all the way to the viewing room. She began to worry if this had been a mistake to bring him here, and prayed the darkness and drama onscreen would at least be able to distract him enough to loosen up a little.
Cass and Conner had saved them two seats near the edge, and she sidled in next to her girlfriend (for moral support) while Tim took the one closest to the aisle. He kept glimpsing tensely around though, still just as jumpy as before.
“Hey, chill out a bit, will ya? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” he muttered. “It’s just, in my experience, this is usually the part where the place catches fire, or some punks try to rob the box office, or…”
She stared at him, shaking her head.
“You fret too much. Just try to relax and enjoy, okay? Here, have some popcorn.”
He passed on the salted kernels though, and she pouted as she popped one in her mouth, chewing over whether she’d made the right decision after all. He looked almost claustrophobic, stressed. In distress.
Things didn’t improve much as the motion picture started to play. The first feature presentation in the lineup was indeed Frankenstein, and although Tim managed to remain relatively calm enough throughout the monochrome, monotone introduction, he started to stiffen at the famous “awakening” sequence.
“Quite a good scene, isn’t it? One man crazy, three very sane spectators.”
Out of the crook of her eye, Steph sensed her companion cringe every time there was a thunderclap, as lights flashed and machinery sparked with mounting electricity, while the movie madman merrily turned the wheel to “adjust the batteries”. Together, he and his assistant unrolled the cloth covering the table to expose a humanlike form strapped to it, albeit with limbs limp and lifeless. Tim’s claw clutched at his armrest as the stretcher was gradually lifted up through a hole in the ceiling towards the stormy sky, where pulses of galvanizing lightning presumably struck the subject repeatedly.
Stephanie divided concentration back and forth between the increasingly agitated boy beside her and the big screen in growing alarm as his breathing accelerated, gasping and wheezing audibly as he bent forward and put his hyperventilating head between his knees. Cass and Conner were casting concerned looks as well, while other annoyed audience members revolved around and shushed to keep it down. As her attention was arrested by the scientist maniacally screaming “It’s alive!” over and over again, she turned back one last time to ask if Tim was all right in a worried whisper – but there was no answer.
Tim was gone.
Rocker and the Mechanic - Chapter 19 (Previous Chapters)
Pairing: Johnny x Ash
Chapter Summary: After a successful performance, Buster approaches Johnny with an offer.
It was a strange feeling, one she swore she hadn't experienced in way too long. In all her years of performing, Ash never ended a set feeling like this before…
Ash was…happy.
Content.
Thrilled!
Fucking ecstatic!
An almost annoying constant pull at the edges of her lips that wouldn't relent and she knew it wouldn't waver anytime soon. Especially now that the audience was on their collective feet and clapping loudly as Johnny and Ash stood side by side. The final song long since faded around them and Johnny suddenly was looking at her like that; his coffee tinted eyes crinkling on the edges and flashing her the most gorgeous smile she'd ever seen.
Fuck, she never wanted this feeling to stop...
But sadly, the cheers slowly wavered when Eddie took to the stage and stood to her right. Calming down the audience with one hoof, the sheep quickly shot her a look she did not want to decipher so she turned back to look gratefully at the audience instead.
"Thanks for sticking around everyone! It was totally worth it though, right?" Eddie spoke confidently into the microphone and, going by the intense reaction from the audience, it was a resounding 'yes'. Smiling at them, Eddie suddenly gestured toward the performers in a flourish, "Than be sure to give it up for Ash and our newcomer, Johnny, for providing us with such great entertainment tonight!" he nudged her side was when she realized it was her cue.
Without even thinking, Ash breached the small space between them to grab Johnny's hand. Her tiny fingertips brushing across the callouses at the base of his fingers; the sensation of those rough markings caused her fur to bristle pleasantly. Ignoring her tingling spines, she craned her neck to meet the gorilla's confused eyes.
"Take a bow," she mouthed and Johnny's face lit up in understanding.
Johnny inadvertently scooted toward her before gently grasping her hand. Taking her lead, they both bowed low to the cheering audience.
The crowd 's excitement quieted when Eddie's voice dispersed their cheers, "Thank you all for coming and be sure to come back tomorrow night for some more great live entertainment. Have a goodnight!"
After a final wave, Eddie turned to Ash; motioning to the end of the stage toward the exit, and while she could bask in the spotlight forever, she sent one last wave to the audience before squeezing Johnny's hand and nudging him as Eddie led them both off the stage.
It wasn't until they were back behind the safety of the curtain when she realized she was still holding his hand.
--- o 0 O 0 o --- As soon as they were backstage, it was like a fucking paparazzi rush of crew running here and there; sending the pair congratulatory smiles and waves.
Buster was suddenly there, pushing his way to the front, and Ash had to remind herself that they did fucking brilliant tonight so whatever complaint he had about her changing up the set, tardiness or the fact she brought her own duet partner wasn't going to bother her. But criticizing seemed to be the last thing on Buster's mind as he approached her in a rush of gray and blue.
"Ash!" Buster, completely out of breath from running all the way backstage as fast as he did, approached them. "…Johnny," he acknowledged the gorilla a second later with a disarming smile.
It was only then that Ash noticed how warm one of her hands was and that it was indeed still nestled comfortably against Johnny's palm. Ash gingerly brushed her thumb across his palm before gingerly removing her hand from his grip before Buster realized her slip up but Eddie's eyes latched onto her reddening face knowingly.
"Moon," Ash replied, crossing her arms and waiting for Buster to finally blurt out what she wanted to hear.
Buster's fists were fidgeting by his side before he met her eyes and in a seemingly unbelievably deep sigh later, he acquiesced, "Great job."
"...and…?" she baited her boss in a sing-song voice, missing the confused look Johnny flashed her.
"...And…" Buster sighed, averting his eyes to the floor than toward the ceiling as if asking a higher power for strength before he uttered out in the most pained voice she heard out of him. "…you were right."
Ash smile stretched eagerly across her face giving him the toothiest smile possible. Ahh, it felt so fucking good to be proven right; her only regret was not recording those words to be enjoyed again later.
"...And Johnny," Buster ignored the cocky grin Ash sent by turning his attention toward Johnny.
Johnny flinched at suddenly being addressed in such a serious tone and Ash heard him gulp before muttering, "Um, y-yes, Mr. Buster Moon?"
"...I owe you an apology - I was wrong about you."
Ash's eyes grew wide. Buster Moon admitting his faults not once but twice?! Was hell actually freezing over?
"I-It's okay." Johnny stuttered out and as fucking adorable as it was to hear his British accent get thicker the increasingly more nervous he became, Ash was tempted to elbow him. He didn't know that you never apologized to Buster without it biting you in the ass later. But she didn't.
"Ya never heard me singin' before so ya don't really owe me nothin'," Johnny continued with a shrug, "I just appreciate ya giving me a chance to sing tonight."
"Oh, but that's where you're wrong, dear boy!" Moon trilled, gesturing widely with excited hands, "With a voice like that, you deserve more than just one chance!"
Johnny looked down at the small mammal in confusion, "...Pardon?"
"Johnny!" Moon suddenly grabbed Johnny's large hand and held it in his tiny shaking paws, "My boy, how would you like to join the prestigious Moon Theater Company?"
"I - uh..."
"You shall do no such thing, Johnny!" Nana Noodleman's domineering voice suddenly broke through their conversation like a samurai sword through warm butter.
"Excuse me?" Buster Moon was almost hyperventilating by this point and Ash was merely enjoying the show.
"I want him. I heard how you admonished the poor boy before the show and you should be ashamed of such behavior." Like a predator after her prey, the elderly sheep's sharp eyes turned toward the towering gorilla with an unsettling smirk crossing her lips, "Now, don't listen to him, darling. Now, how would you like to do performances for me and, occasionally, my dearest friends? I shall pay you handsomely - much more than Mr. Moon could offer a talent such as yours."
"Uh...You don't own a theater, grandma…" Eddie pointed out.
"Exactly! What sort of venue do you have?" Moon cried, his face turning ten different shades of outrage while Ash merely bit back a laugh.
Other than the intense drunken haze covering her eyes, Miss Noodleman spoke with the seriousness of a heart attack and eloquence coating every word, "I prefer…private performances at my residence."
"Grandma, you're drunk," Eddie was finally a voice of reason.
"...That may be so, but I know talent when I hear it."
"Uh, grandma? …His face is up there…"
Ash stifled a snort when she seen exactly where Nana Noodleman's eyes were hovering on the statuesque gorilla. The same place Ash just happened to be eye-level with…
"I'm well aware of that, Edward. I was merely appreciating his strong form; such a statuesque man of his caliber would make a fine employee."
"*cough* boy toy *cough*" Eddie hacked into his hoof but wasn't fooling anyone.
"Miss Noodleman!" Buster cut in, "I think it should be up to Johnny who he decides to work for. Besides, if he worked at my establishment, he'd be getting to work with Ash and it's already obvious how well they work together! And even solo! Especially since he established how well he can play piano! With that kind of talent, he'd be able to branch out doing multiple venues and would have a very successful career working for me! I see big things happening for this boy! Huge even!"
"Hogwash!" Nana broke in with a cackle, "That little theater of yours is on its last legs - when was the last time you renovated that place?"
Buster's face turned scarlet before stuttering out, "I just added a few new seats that needed replacing, the overhead lights, sanded and re-stained the hardwood floors of the stage, not to mention - "
"Bandaids, Bandaids, Bandaids, Mr. Moon… I'm well aware of your minuscule upkeep you perform to keep the bank off your back, but with the crumbling foundation and poor sense of management, I fear it won't help much…"
Buster outright growled, his ears stiff as he wagged a finger at the elderly sheep but Eddie placed a hand on his shoulder which stopped him in his tracks.
Johnny, by this point, was just trying to keep up with the argument going on in front of him and Ash. The adrenaline of a kick-ass performance was a hell of a high so it probably wasn't easy.
"Um…" Johnny stuttered out when he found himself at the center of all of this attention. Ash felt a pinch in her chest when he suddenly looked down at her for guidance and she just smiled and shrugged.
It would have to be up to him to decide.
Johnny let out a resounding sigh, lifting his hand to rub the back of his neck, "I-I'm sorry. I really don't know what ta say. While I sincerely appreciate all the offers - I really do - but… ya need to understand, I have a business to run. I can't exactly just drop it to pursue something else."
Moon and Nana Noodleman's face filled with discouragement at Johnny's words, and seeing that, Johnny elaborated.
"I-I'm not saying no exactly! I'm just saying…ya know - not now. This is all so sudden - i-if it's alright, I need 'ome time ta think on a decision like this." Johnny finished thickly, hands shaking a bit at his sides and Ash resisted the temptation to reach out and steady it.
"Hmm. I suppose that's reasonable." Nana butted in quickly, "It's been an exceptionally long night after all." Out of nowhere, Nana Noodleman pulled out a card from her purse and handed it to Johnny, "Now, you go home and think about my offer, dearie."
Johnny flashed her a brilliant smile, "I will. Thank you, ma'am."
"It's Miss Noodleman to you…" she outright winked at him before passing by him and Ash didn't even bother hiding her laugh at Johnny's loud "EEP!" when Miss Noodleman pinched his ass before sauntering off to her group of drunk friends to her awaiting limo (and hopefully a sober chauffeur to drive the old biddies home).
"...Does this always happen after performances?" Johnny asked, rubbing at his tender bum and Ash couldn't stop the smile from creeping up her cheeks at just how red Johnny's face became.
Ash shrugged a shoulder, "Eh. Typical Friday night." she laughed when his jaw seemed to unhinge. "Just kidding," she clarified with a wink.
"Johnny," Buster made his presence known once again once things quieted, "I can't offer you as much money as she can but what I can offer you is coming from a mind uninfluenced by alcohol." Buster flashed him a smirk and pulled out a business card. "I know you have other responsibilities and I respect that, son, but hearing you tonight - you shouldn't hide your gift from the world. A voice like that deserves to be celebrated. I'm not gonna force you, but just think about it, okay? I'd love to have you on my team."
The tenseness in Johnny's hand fled as he accepted the card.
"Thank you, Mr. Moon."
"Please. Call me Buster," the koala replied, before suddenly, he was gone and Johnny and Ash were left alone backstage.
HatTale: Chapter 3
[Also on AO3!]
Happy two-month birthday HatTale!
Standard Disclaimer: None of us own Undertale or A Hat In Time, they belong to Toby Fox and Gears For Breakfast respectively.
–
All was darkness.
And then it wasn’t.
The girl found herself standing on the steps leading to an ornate stone archway. She glanced down and tapped the ground with her foot. It made no noise. She tried to think aloud, but no words came. The silence was literally deafening.
She looked forward to the archway. A small light gleamed in the distance beyond.
Will you Continue? It murmured.
She turned around. The endless void stretched out as far as the eye could see. As she stared, the darkness grew, getting dark, darker, yet darker still.
Or will you give up and Quit? It whispered.
She gave a stiff smile and stepped through the archway.
--
The girl wasn’t sure what she was expecting when she opened her eyes, but the bright light of the sun shining off of a bed of golden flowers... well, it seemed awfully familiar…
Wait a second, hadn't she done this before?
She leaped to her feet and glanced around wildly. Why was she back in the golden flower cave? What was that weird void-space? That heart? Where was the murder-flower?!
"Did... Did I just die? " she thought aloud.
“... Yes?! You’re supposed to be dead! ”
She turned around. Mask was floating in a way that would have been called pacing if he were on the ground. He kept glancing at the golden flowers, at the tunnel, at his fidgeting hands, and her. He was muttering to himself, so quickly and quietly that the girl only caught snippets like “ back here? ” and “ reset? ” and “ but he’s too much of a jerk to for anyone else. ”
She snapped her fingers and startled him out of his train of thought.
“Well, I guess…” she thought for a moment as Mask floated towards her, “I’m pretty sure I did die, but somehow I got better ?”
“. ..I guess that’s one way to put it, ” he grumbled.
She bent down to retrieve her stick, “How’s about we keep going?”
The ghost gave her an incredulous stare, “ You just died and came back, and your first course of action is to just casually continue on? ”
She shrugged and pulled back a sleeve. There were no injuries in sight (but in mind was a different story). “I mean, it doesn’t hurt or anything, it’s almost like it never happened?”
Mask tensed at that, but the girl didn’t notice.
“So… if the universe wants to forgive and forget, then meh,” she turned towards the tunnel and started walking, “so can I.”
--
They returned to the murder-flower-room. It was noticeably lacking in magic-traps (they both checked thoroughly before going in) but was abundant in purple murder-flowers. And by that, just the one looking quite dazed and confused and was that just a bit of fear on his face?
" ... what just- "
The flower only got to say those two words before the girl abruptly cut him off with a stick to the face.
He gave a very not intimidating yelp before vanishing. The girl poked the loose dirt with the (now pollen covered) stick. Who knew sentient murder flowers could burrow?
The ghost floated down and poked his head through the ground, then came back up and shrugged, “ well… I suppose that was one way to get rid of him. ”
She grinned- well, more like grimaced, “Mmmm, I jus’ hit him first . That’s usually a pretty good way to win a fight.” she tapped her stick against the ground, then started jabbing it when the pollen just wouldn’t come off-!
“ I’m just going to ignore what you may or may not be implying there... ”
She whacked it harder against the ground because dammit she was not going to dirty her sweater with this weird super-glue pollen!
“ Though taking the initiative will be very important later on in the Underground. Most monsters let you take the first move just on their own, however... ”
His words trailed off, and though the girl couldn’t see his face, she could sense an extreme amount of almost… fear coming from him?
Then she heard it, the footsteps.
Deciding to not risk getting killed by another monster, she whipped around with her stick brandished and ready to hit someone.
Although, as soon as she caught sight of the approaching monster, she found it a lot harder to stay in ready-to-ass-kick mode.
They were a big, almost cartoonish, tabby cat walking towards them. To be fair, they were only a little taller than she was, but that was still huge for a cat. Also, they had an adorable and tall chef’s hat on and that combined with their cute and casually fancy robes and generally cartoonish and friendly demeanor meant that the girl’s guard had been pretty thoroughly dropped in favor of C A T ! ! ! ! ! ! (Mask had also relaxed, which she took as a good sign).
They stopped in front of her, “Oh! Are you alright?”
The girl shrugged, but internally was making the biggest awwwwwwww she could because that accent just made it all the CUTER-!
The cat frowned and held a paw to her face in worried thought, “Well, you’re probably pretty lost and confused from the fall. But never fear, for Cookie is here!” the Cat monster struck an exaggerated pose, and the girl laughed. Mask laughed too, but his seemed a lot more… quiet. The cat peeked an eye open and smiled. Getting the girl to loosen up and laugh was probably their intent from the start.
“Alright, now that you aren’t about to hit me with that ,” she pointed at the girl’s stick, which was now loosely hanging from her hands. She smiled sheepishly. “I can help you.”
The girl hesitated, then looked up at Mask. He still looked a little… off, but he gave her a nod.
She looked back towards the cat… no wait, Cookie, “ suuuure? Uh, you aren’t going to kill us, are you?”
They looked almost scandalized, “Of course not! I have never and would never hurt a hair on a child’s head!”
The girl just gave a dead-pan thumbs up, “coolio, now how do I get this off my stick?” feckin pollen …
“Ah, here,” the cat walked over and held out a paw (which looked so damn soft, wow ) that the girl put her stick in. They rooted around in their robes many pockets for a bit, and then pulled out a cute handkerchief and used it to wipe all the pollen away. The girl died a little inside at seeing the probably well-loved and painstakingly-embroidered fabric stained within an inch of its life.
“There, how’s that?”
The girl took her mostly-de-pollened stick back. “Um… thank you, but my stick isn’t really worth all that.” she pointed at the handkerchief, and in response, the cat laughed.
“Oh, well, don’t you worry about this old thing,” Cookie held up the cloth, and now the girl could see that the embroidery depicted a lot of cats, skulls, and was covered in green and blue bows. Well, she assumed they were green and blue, as now everything on it was far closer to a deep purple than anything. “The whole point of a kerchief is to clean things, and I’m sure that my friend won’t mind that I got it a little dirty.”
Mask snorted and glanced away, but she had already caught the smile on his face.
Cookie looked a little surprised and maybe sad, but then she was smiling again and walking off, “Well, I suppose we should get going. Come along now, Kitten!”
“ ‘Kitten?’ what a dumb nickname. ” Mask teased as he trailed behind her.
The girl gave him an unimpressed stare, “ you called me ‘Shrimpy’, you don’t get to judge.”
He shrugged, “ fair enough. ”
The girl didn’t notice that Cookie had stopped until she had bumped right into them.
“Ah, sorry!” the girl took a few big steps back.
The cat’s frown turned into a small smile, “Oh, don’t you worry, Kitten, it’s fine.”
The girl hummed and then asked, “why’re we stopping?”
“Oh, no reason. I just got lost in thought.” Cookie turned back around and continued walking.
The girl was torn. Curiosity weighing with common decency. She wanted to ask the cat what she was thinking about, but also wasn’t sure if that’d be rude, or if she even cared about being rude at this point.
Well, she didn’t have time to decide, as soon they stepped through an ornate (and oddly familiar) archway and into the next room.
Actually, calling it a room was a gross understatement. The mauve stones arched so high above her head. Red leaves crunched beneath her feet. The two staircases curved up and around to such a deceptively simple door frame. Ivy crawled up and down the walls, adding a scattering of friendly green to the otherwise imposing purples and reds. Hey! She was an artist! She could appreciate a good color pallet!
She could feel Mask’s unease beside her. She reached out and gave his hand a small squeeze.
As Cookie proceeded up the stairs, the girl took a small detour.
In the pile of leaves between the stairs, something was shining. It caught her eye. She walked over and brushed some of the leaves aside.
Oh, it was the light . Why was it… here?
She reached out towards it.
Baron Corbin x OFC Word Count: 2000+ Warnings: language and moderate sexy times. (I suck at writing smut, so I don’t attempt it lol) Summary: Run, Addie, the Constable is coming for you..... +++ “Baron, I need some space.” Addie giggled, trying to gently push him away. This earned her a low growl and a soft nudge against her head. “Too bad, little rabbit, I wanna be close to you.” He rumbled. “Ok, love birds. As cute as you two are, I have a match tonight and I need to look flawless!” Alexa said giving them a mock scowl. “Watch it, pixie.” Baron growled, playfully snapping his teeth in Alexa’s direction. Addie softly bopped him on the nose with her pointer finger. “Be nice,” Addie stood on her tiptoes and pecked Baron on the lips, “I’ll see you later.” “Fine...” he mumbled against her lips, “I love you. See you tonight.” “Love you too.” Squealing when he smacked her ass as he walked away. “THAT’S RIGHT!” Alexa beamed, “Tonight’s your first change!! Ooooh, are you nervous?” “Um, a little. From what the others have told me, the first time is pretty painful.” Addie chewed her lip as she put the finishing touches on Alexa. “Michael offered to use his magic to try and dull the pain but I want to feel it all, y’know? Get an understanding of what Baron went through.” “Well, you’re a hell of a lot braver than I am. I’d spring for that magic offer faster than a jack rabbit on a date.” “Thanks for the visual.” Addie said as she grimaced. Alexa placed a loving hand on Addie’s. “You’ll be fine babe. Baron won’t let anything happen to you, he’ll be there every step of the way.” With that, she kissed Addie’s cheek leaving a huge lipstick kiss mark. —- Baron stood in front of Addie, his nose buried in her hair. He held her small hands in his calloused ones as the night air kissed their skin. The wind blew through the trees as the leaves rustled. He could hear her heart beating faster than normal. It was natural for his little rabbit to be nervous. “Don’t worry, beautiful. I’ve got you.” He whispered as he pulled her into his arms. He loved how perfect her body fit with his. Leaning down, he kissed Addie, trying his best to calm her nerves. She happily welcomed the distraction. “Ok,” he whispered when they pulled apart, “first thing’s first, take off your clothes.” “What?” Addie squeaked out. “Don’t worry, I’ll put them in my backpack. They won’t get dirty.” He said as he nodded his head to the bag that hung from one of the handlebars of his motorcycle. It was a sweet gesture but her clothes getting dirty wasn’t what she was worried about. Although they had been together since that horrible night, they hadn’t been intimate yet. Addie still felt self conscious about her body even tho Baron reassured her that he loved her body. Sensing her unease about shedding her clothes in front of him, Baron kissed her forehead. “Baby,” Baron murmured, “we’ve been over this, I think you’re sexy as hell. You don’t need to hide your body from me.” “No, I know... it’s not that, well not totally that. I got sick in my teens and I’ve only really been with one guy. We had math together. It was just one time and it wasn’t great.” She rolled her eyes when Baron growled at the mention of another guy touching what was his. “Oh stop that. What I’m trying to tell you is that I’m not super experienced and not used to people seeing me naked.” “Oh babe,” his voice low and husky, “I don’t give a shit about how experienced you are. When the time comes I’ll take care of you...” he buried his face in the crook of her neck, “I’ll make you feel things you’ve only dreamed of.” He gently bit her sensitive skin, “I’ll worship this gorgeous body so good, you’ll be a whimpering mess begging me to never stop.” He pulled back and kissed her lips then her forehead. By now Addie felt like she couldn’t breathe. She wanted to let go and lose control around Baron. But there was something that had to be done first. Taking a deep breath, Addie backed up, reached for the hem of her shirt and slowly undressed under the light of the full moon. Once she was completely bare before her alpha, she looked at him for further instruction. Baron was currently in a daze as he stared at his mate’s voluptuous, perfect body. His wolf was practically biting at the chops to take her right then and there. Shaking his head, he quickly removed his shirt knowing that the skin to skin contact will help her through her change. He walked towards Addie, pulled the hair tie from her braid and brushed his fingers through her hair. “This’ll be easier if we’re sitting, ok?” He watched as she nervously nodded her head as she sat on the ground. Sitting behind her, Baron wrapped his arms around her soft tummy and pulled her between his bent legs, against his chest. He kissed her shoulder where his mark was, pride running through his body when he felt her shiver under his touch. “Relax baby, breath with me.” Closing her eyes, she let her head fall back on his shoulder as she placed her arms on his. “You’re going to feel a dull heat throughout your body and it’s going to intensify. Do you feel it?” “Y-Yeah, it’s not that ba- OH! I lied!” Her nails dug into Baron’s skin. “It feels like I’m on fire, it hurts Baron!” She winced and whimpered in as it got worse. Baron tightened his hold on her while kissing her mark again, trying to ease her pain. He knew that what was about to come would be the most excruciating pain she’d ever feel in her life. “I know, baby, I know. I need you to listen, next you’re body is going to morph into an entirely different being.” He murmured against her ear, “Your bones will break and reform into your wolf. It’s going to hurt but I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.” “I’m scared, I don’t know if I can-!” She was cut off by her own scream as her back arched as they both heard that pop of her first broken bone. Just as she was about to scream in agony, Baron sunk his now sharp teeth into her shoulder. Addie moaned in pleasure and pain as her body leaned into Baron’s. He did all he could to distract her from the anguish that was tearing through her entire body. Unable to hold onto Addie anymore, Baron jumped back as her body changed into a breathtaking red wolf. Finally able to catch her breath, Addie looked at Baron with big eyes. She tried to stand, but wasn’t yet used to this new form. Her head felt like it was going to explode as all of her senses felt like they had just been cranked to eleven. “Easy babe, take your time.” Baron whispered as he slowly approached his luna. “It’s going to take some getting used to.” He helped Addie to her feet, running his hands over her fur once she was able to stand on her own. He stroked her fur, marveling at how soft it was. Unable to stop himself, he leaned into her side lying his head on her side as his hands continued to pet her soft coat. Closing his eyes, he listened to her heartbeat, never taking it for granted as he thought about the night he had almost lost Addie. It had been almost a full month since then and he made sure to tell her everyday how much he loved her. Feeling antsy, Addie gently shook him off. Her paws started to fidget, like they needed to dig into the earth while she raced through the trees. ‘Patience, my dear.’ A voice said in her mind, causing Addie to yip in surprise. ‘What?! Who are you?!’ Addie asked, trying not to freak out. ‘I’m your wolf.’ Addie recalled Baron trying to explain this to her, though she didn’t feel prepared at all for the real thing. ‘Relax and trust our alpha, he’ll take care of us.’ Baron stood in front of Addie, running his fingers through the fur around her neck. “You are so beautiful.” He whispered as he leaned her head down so he could place his forehead on hers. Stepping back, Baron took off the rest of his clothes and took on his wolf form as well. Addie watched as Baron crouched, his body morphing into a dark grey wolf that easily stood a foot and a half taller than Addie’s. Walking towards her, Baron ran his muzzle along hers, scenting her. Once he was satisfied with his work, he kicked her neck then playfully nipped at her. Wanting to be closer to him, Addie nuzzled under Baron’s neck. Nudging her head with his nose, Baron tilted his head towards the open woods. He started to run from her, barking for her to follow. Addie didn’t need to be told twice as she took off after him. When they had their fill of running under the night sky, Addie and Baron laid on the ground near his bike. Sensing that the sun would be up in a few hours, Baron stood and changed back to human. “Turning back into human is a lot easier. Close your eyes and picture your human form.” He instructed when she too stood and tilted her head to the side. Closing her eyes, Addie did as she was told. Although it took some time, she was finally back to her old self. She opened her eyes and looked at Baron. He looked so majestic under the light of the full moon. Closing the gap between them, Addie used Baron’s shoulders to pull him down into a heated kiss. Growling, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her flush against his body. Her plush body felt like heaven against his hard body. Pulling away, Baron quickly ripped open his backpack and pulled out a large blanket and laid it on the ground. Sitting on the blanket, Baron reached out a hand towards his beautiful Addie. Once she was in his arms, he laid her on her back as he hovered over her as he nestled between her luscious thighs. She cupped his face pulling him down for another kiss. Moving from her lips, down her jaw, finally reaching her shoulder, he left open mouthed kisses on her skin. He bit her skin as she dug her nails up his back, causing him to growl against her neck. Her thighs tightened around Baron as she ground her hips into his. “Little rabbit, if you keep that up I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to control myself.” He growled against her ear. “Maybe I want to lose control with you.” She purred, pulling back to look into his now glowing eyes. “I need to hear you say it Adelina.” He said, a cocky smirk on his lips as he watched her shiver at the sound of her name on his tongue. Growling, she pulled him by the back of his neck, crashing her lips against his as she bit his bottom lip. “Take me, alpha.” She said as she stared into his eyes. Letting out a roar, he held her tightly by her hair as he marked the delicate skin of her neck with his teeth. She dragged her nails along his spine as she arched into him. Under the stars, Baron kept true to his word, reveling in every gasp, whimper and moan he drew from her as he showed her body the love she deserved. At the height of their love making, Baron stared into Addie’s eyes. “Tell me you love me.” Baron growled out. “M-More than anything.” She panted out as she bared her neck to him, a little tip Ruby gave her. Throwing his head back, Baron howled at the full moon then sunk his teeth into her neck as Addie cried out his name. Collapsing on her soft body, Baron held Addie close as they basked in each other’s afterglow. A single tear fell from Baron’s eye as he stared at the beautiful gift the moon goddess bestowed upon him. Stroking her hair as she let out a small yawn, Baron pulled a few things from his bag and gently cleaned their bodies. He pulled her to her feet and helped her get dressed then throwing his own clothes on. Packing everything back up, Addie took the bag from his hands and put it on her back. With ease, Baron lifted Addie and placed her on his bike then mounting it himself. Wrapping her arms around his torso, kissing his back between his shoulder blades. “I love you.” She whispered as she rested her chin on his shoulder. Baron turned his head and kissed her cheek. Staring into her eyes, Baron leaned back and exposed his neck to his luna, a sign of full submission and respect. Addie softly bit his neck, shivering as he moaned under her teeth. When she pulled her teeth back, she kissed the small mark she left on his skin. “It’s official now.” Baron whispered. “You’re my luna, my equal, my moon. Mine as I am yours.” “Yours as you are mine.” Addie whispered. “Forever.” He said as he kickstarted his bike and made their way back to the hotel. “Forever.” She whispered back as the wind cooled her heated skin. The Moon Goddess smiled down as she watched her wolves start their new like together.
Bonrin Week Day 4: First
Okay I know this is late, but it took longer than I thought. Since I got such nice comments on my last fanic, I wanted to write another! This one is kinda long, so bear with me. I hope you enjoy!
It’s all Shima’s Fault
Rin has never felt this sort of fear in his life. Not when Satan took over Shiro’s body and tried to kill him or that time during the Impure King incident back in Kyoto. Not even going up against zombies in the Illuminati headquarters scared him as much as this moment. But as he looked up at that the jumbotron displaying himself and Suguro surrounded by hearts with the words “Kiss Cam” right below, Rin’s pretty sure this sort of fear is one feeling he doesn’t like. If you look at things through Rin’s eyes, this whole ordeal was Shima’s fault. Two weeks earlier, Shima asked Rin if he wanted to go to a basketball game in Tokyo. Rin, being the eager little kid he is, jumped at the opportunity since he’s never been to a real game before. Shiro was always a basketball fan, he kinda pushed his love for basketball onto Rin while raising the twins. Neither of them actually played the sport though, Shiro always had missions and the boys to take care of while Rin was just bad at it. But that didn’t stop them from watching games on TV. The Saturday of the game, Rin bounded to his friends dorm, expecting him to be as excited as he was. “Shima!” yelled Rin as he burst through the room door. “C’mon, the game starts at five!” Rin had to duck down to escape the sneaker flying at his head. “Suguro, what the hell?” “Shut your trap Okumura!” Another sneaker flew from his hand. “Shima ain’t feeling well, Koneko took him to the doctors.” “What? Why? He was perfectly fine yesterday.” “The idiot drank some milk that spoiled sometime last month in the cafeteria this morning,” explained Suguro as he threw a pillow from his place on his bed. “How the hell? Not even Shima is that stupid to-” “He was too busy drooling over his new bikini mags.” Rin face palmed. “That pink haired perv!” Rin flopped down on the bed. “What about the game?” A swift kick to the side had Rin flailing off the bed onto the floor. “Here, Shima told me to give this to you.” Two tickets floated down onto Rin’s face. “He said to find someone else to go with.” “Haaah? Are you serious?” “Yes I am. Now get out of my room.” Rin sat bolt up. “But I can’t find anyone this last minute! Who’d want to go to a game that starts in an hour?” “Don’t know. Don’t care. Get out of my room.” “Maybe Shiemi would like to go.” Rin stood and started pacing the room. “But she doesn’t like big crowds.” “Okumura.” “I could ask Yukio-” “Okumura.” “-but he’s already pissed at me for not buying him his damn mineral water.” “Okumura!” “You think Izumo would like-” “For fucks sake, Okumura!” This time the sneaker didn’t miss. “I’ll go with you if it makes you shut up!” Rubbing the back of his head, Rin turned around. “What?” Suguro stood up from his bed and grabbed his jacket. “Jeez, it goes in one ear and out the other.” He made his way to the corner of the room to put his shoes on. “I said I’ll go with you. If it gets you to stop complaining and outta my room, I’ll go.” A smile appeared on Rin’s face. “Thanks Suguro.” “Y-yeah, whatever,” a faint blush tinted the taller boys cheeks. “Move it or else we’re gonna be late.” The two exited the dorms and walked the path to the campus gates. While Rin was telling Suguro about the bentos he made in case they got hungry, they ran into Kuro. “Hey Rin! Where you’re going?” The half demon ran a hand over his familiar’s fur. “We’re going to a basketball game in Tokyo.” “Oh, so you mean like a date!” A deep blush crawled its way up to Rin’s face. “What? N-no, it’s not like that! We’re just going to-” “Rin’s on a date! Rin’s on a date!” “Stop it you damned cat or else I’m not making you anymore tempura!” Suguro watched as his friend and his cat had a very heated argument turned fist fight (paw fight?) once Kuro jumped on Rin’s head and the boy started swinging. He didn’t understand what the cat was saying, but he was pissed. He kept hissing and digging his claws into the shorter boys scalp. After Suguro took out his phone and snapped a picture of Rin getting his ass beat by a cat, he pulled the two apart. “Alright, cut it out. Kuro, whatever this idiot did, I’ll make it up to you by picking up some sushi and milk before we get back. That sound good to you?” The little black familier perked up. He nodded his head and allowed Suguro to pet him before him and Rin walked off campus. Kuro said something to his owner before they were out of earshot, whatever it was made Rin flustered again. “That damn cat! One of these days I’m gonna completely cut his sake line.” “Sure, cut his alcohol supply and make him even more angry. That way, he can beat your ass while full sized.” Suguro laughed as the color drained from Rin’s face. As the two walked to the bus stop, Suguro asked, “What did he say to you to get you so riled up?” The color returned to Rin’s face as a blazing red. “Oh, it was nothing. He just insulted my cooking. He always says my yakitori is a little too burnt.” When the bus came and they boarded, he avoided eye contact the whole ride.
By the time they arrived at the stadium, the game was to start in ten minutes. They gave their tickets to the ushers outside and rushed to find seats. Fortunately, they found some a few rows above court side. During the bus ride, Rin explained who was playing, the players, and their current records. Suguro tried to seem interested, he really did, but he was never a sports kinda guy. Yeah he did play football with Juzo and Kinzo when they needed extra players, but that was about it. But while Rin was talking about the different plays, it made him smile, so Suguro pretended to listen. When the referee blew the whistle and threw the ball in the air, the game finally began. Throughout the first ten minutes nothing really happened. It was the same thing, one player has the ball. The opposing team steals it and so on. It was pretty interesting to watch a bunch of guys run after a ball. But when one team scored the first two points, that smile was back on Rin’s face. Suguro didn’t know why that smile made him feel lighter than air. It wasn’t because he liked that goofy look, or anything. Or the way his eyes would light up whenever an amazing pass was made. Or the fact that whenever Rin got too excited he would latch onto Suguro’s arm, jumping up and down. Nope, none of that. At halftime, they grew hungry so Rin pulled out some sodas and the bentos he made earlier that day. While the two ate, Rin looked at Suguro and couldn’t help but feel…something. Sometimes it’s a light flutter in his stomach, other times it feels like he’s doing twist and turns on a roller coaster. The only time Rin has these feeling is when he’s with Suguro. Rin must’ve been staring too long because Suguro poked him with his chopsticks. “Oi, Okumura, you alright? You look kinda funny. What, you gotta a fever?” The boy leaned over his seat and pressed his forehead against Rin’s. If the poking didn’t snap him out of whatever trance he was in, that definitely did. Rin was frozen in place. His heart was beating a little faster than usual and his hand that didn’t have the bento wouldn’t stop shaking. At one point he even forgot to breath. When Suguro pulled away, Rin had this feeling of losing something that’s supposed to be there. After a few seconds his heart rate returned to normal and he let out a big huff of air. But his hand wouldn’t stop shaking. He closed the bento and returned it to his bag, he tried to hide his shaking but failed miserably. “Okumura, are you cold? You’re shivering like crazy.” Suguro put his finished box back in the backpack, he then proceeded to remove his black hoodie. “Here take my jacket.” Rin nodded and slipped the hoodie on. It was a few sizes too big, so he swam in it, but other than that it gave him a sense of comfort. “Thanks Suguro.” For the second time that day, Suguro blushed because of that blue idiot. “S-shut up. I just don’t want you catching a cold out here. That’ll mean I gotta haul your sorry ass back to campus and get an earful from your brother.” The atmosphere turned awkward after a few minutes of not speaking. Rin was about to say that he was fine when the crowd erupted in cheers and excitement. The two looked above to see the jumbotron blinking red, white, and pink. When the flashing colors stopped, the screen was displaying a young couple on the east side of the stadium. The words “Kiss Cam” bouncing around the screen with hearts popping up. They smiled and turned to each other, dumbstruck looks on their faces. The guy leaned in and pecked his girlfriend on the lips, earning them hoots and hollers. “Wow, this stuff is so cheesy,” said Suguro, as his eyes followed the next victims. “It’s gross when couples do it in public, but now they have to kiss in front of hundreds of people.” “Y-yeah. It’s so dumb.” Rin started to fidget in place, looking anywhere else but at the boy next to him. “I feel sorry for the poor saps who-” “Oi, Okumura?” “Yeah, what’s up?” Rin turned to find a blushing Suguro. “You look like you wanna puke.” “Don’t look now,” He pointed to the jumbotron and Rin’s stomach dropped. “But I think those poor saps are us.” Rin hoped he was lying, he wanted it to be a joke, but nope. There they were, plain as day. A huge heart around their frame with smaller ones moving along the screen. The universe has decided to put the two in the worst situation possible. At this point, Rin started to panic. His face turned as red as Shura’s hair as Suguro looked from him to the screen displaying their blushing faces. His hands clutched his seat and his body felt heavy.
I want to die. I want to bury myself under a rock and die. I didn’t do anything to deserve this sort of punishment! Was it because I forgot Yukio’s mineral water? The crowd started to get anxious, they were chanting “kiss him!” and screaming for the two to get on with it. An elderly woman in the seat below looked at Suguro and yelled, “C’mon young man! Lay one on your boyfriend!” “W-what? He’s not my… We’re just friends!” Rin protested. “C’mon Suguro, tell her we’re-” Rin never got to finish his sentence because a pair of lips crashed against his. At this point in his life, Rin was supposed to have his first kiss by the age of ten. Sadly, him being unsociable never really helped him get any girls. But right now, he’s sorta glad that his first kiss was with his best friend, despite how awkward it is. Suguro’s lips moved Rins, they were slightly chapped and tasted like the orange soda he drank. The two didn’t pay attention to how the crowd exploded into cheers or how they cat called when Suguro placed a hand on Rin’s cheek. They were in their own little world. By the time they pulled away, both boys were breathing hard. Suguro scooted back a bit and cleared his throat. “Sorry ‘bout that.” It took a few seconds for Rin to come back down to Earth. When the world stopped spinning, he took a huge swig of his soda. He tried to stop his heart threatening to burst from his chest, but his heart didn’t want to listen to him. “No, no. It’s fine.” “Really? I acted on impulse. I didn’t the crowd to come after us.” He rubbed the back of his neck, the blush still present on his cheeks. “Really, it was… Nice.” Rin pretended like he didn’t see the spark that lit Suguro’s eyes.
The rest of the game went by in a blur. The two didn’t really pay close attention like they did in the beginning. After the whole Kiss Cam episode, they didn’t say much to each other, the tension was so thick you needed a knife to cut through. But after a few moments in the painful silence, they eased into comfortable conversation. After they exited the stadium and caught the bus, they went to buy Kuro’s sushi. They were walking back from the small store, when Rin, being one to speak before he thinks, blurted out, “You know, that was my first kiss.” Suguro looked at him in bewilderment. “Are you serious?” Rin let out a small chuckle. “Yes, I am. Why do you seemed so surprised?” “Well, to be completely honest, I thought you and Shiemi hooked up.” Now it was Rin’s turn to be shocked. “No you saw it, she shot me down. But I’m pretty sure she has a thing for mole face.” Suguro must be a horrible friend. Only bad friends would feel kinda…happy at this sort of news. He see’s the way Shiemi looks at Yukio, there’s a glint in her eye and a hop in her step whenever she’s around him. She doesn’t look at Rin the way he wants her too. “What about you? You had your first kiss yet?” Rin asked. “Oh yeah, I’ve been kissed before.” “I don’t think your mom counts.” A smile made its way to Suguro’s face. “Shut up!” He lightly shoved the boy, making him stumble. Rin laughed. Suguro felt responsible for making him laugh. He liked his laugh. “It was back in junior high, during my third year. Shima dared me to kiss a girl and I did it.” “Wow,” Rin deadpanned. “How romantic.” The two friends laughed at Rin’s remark. “Well, at least my first kiss wasn’t with a dude.” Rin smiled. That smile made Suguro feel funny. A good kinda funny. “It wasn’t just any dude, it was with you.” Holy shit. It was a good thing it was dark or else the blush on Suguro’s face would’ve made Rin laugh again. He lost count on how many times his cheeks flamed up while out with the shorter boy. It was hard to make Suguro crack a smile let alone blush. But when he’s with Rin, his face just decides to disobey what his brain tells it. The two didn’t notice that they reached Rin’s dorm, until he stopped walking. They both looked up at the building, there was a little pang that shot through Suguro as he walked the half demon to his door. He stood a step below Rin, making the boy a few inches taller. Silence hung in the air along with a gloomy feeling. “Thanks again for coming with me.” It must’ve been his imagination, but with the moonlight shining down on them, a halo appeared above Rin’s head. The son of Satan wearing a halo, the universe must think it’s funny. Suguro stuffed his hands in his pockets and shrugged. “It was nothin’. I had a good time.” “You did? Even though we were forced to kiss in front of a whole stadium of people?” “The bento boxes made up for it.” Rin snorted. “I’m happy you thought so. I’ll make another one for you if you want.” “Yeah, that sounds good. Here,” Suguro held up the plastic bag with Kuro’s food. “Tell Kuro that I couldn’t get him tempura, but I hope tuna will suffice.” Rin took the bag, making their hands brush against each other. “Don’t worry, he’ll eat about anything. Actually scratch that, he’ll eat anything except Shiemi’s grass sandwiches.” “But I ate those.” “Which tells me that your taste buds are broken. You better get ready to eat real food.” Rin’s eyes softened as Suguro laughed, his shoulders shaking with every breath he took. “I’ll be looking forward to it.” Suguro sighed. “I better be going. Shima and Koneko must be back in the dorms. They’re probably wondering where I am.” “Yeah okay. I’ll see on Monday.” Rin dug his keys out of his pocket. “Goodnight, Suguro.” “Goodnight, Okumura.” He turned and descended the steps. Suguro was on the last step when his mouth moved of his own accord. “Hey Okumura?” “Yes?” Rin looked over his shoulder. What the hell am I doing? “Would you like to, um.” Suguro scratched the back of his head, not looking up at Rin. Why am I speaking? I should shut up right about now. “I dunno now, go get some coffee tomorrow?” He glanced up to find Rin with a confused look. “ I mean, you don’t have to if you don’t want to. I get that you may need to catch up on work or Yukio might need your help on a mission. I just thought that we could- ” The sound of Rin laughing stopped Suguro from his ramblings. God damnit. You done fucked up boy. The sight of Rin clutching his stomach with tears in his eyes, only angered Suguro. He asked if the guy wanted to get coffee and what he gets in return is Rin laughing at him. The bastard. “Oi! Why’re you laughn’? Listen fuck face, you better shut up or else-” “Suguro I’d love to get coffee with you,” Rin said as he calmed down, he wiped a tear from the corner of his eye. That definitely shut him up. “Oh. Um, okay. I’ll meet you at the campus gates. Nine sound good?” That damn smile was back. “Yeah, sounds good.” It seems like that goofy smile of his is contagious because it found its way to Suguro’s face. “Great, I’ll you tomorrow.” “See you then.” Suguro took a few steps towards his dorms when he heard Rin call out. “Oh one more thing!” He turned back round. “‘Fuck Face’? Really? You couldn’t come up with anything better than that?” Suguro snickered. “What? I thought it was pretty good.” Rin rolled his eyes. “Whatever. Goodnight douche bag!” “Sweet dreams bastard!” Suguro headed in the direction of his dorms, the idiots smile still fresh in his mind.
As Rin opened his bedroom door, he expected Yukio to start at yelling him for being out so late, but he only found Kuro curled up on his bed. “Hey Rin, how was your date?” After dropping his backpack by his desk, the boy sat next to his cat, he’s in too good of a mood to put up with his teasing. “It was pretty good actually. We had a good time. Here.” Rin brought out the sushi from its bag. “Suguro brought tuna rolls if that’s okay.” “Yay! I’m starving! Nice jacket by the way.” Rin looked down and realized that he was still wearing Suguro’s hoodie. He completely forgot to return it to him before they departed, his mind was too preoccupied with sight of him blushing while asking him to coffee. Out of curiosity, Rin brought the sleeve up to his nose and sniffed it. It smelled like grass mixed in with the scent of books. It also had a faint hint of sweat and body spray. Overall, it smelled like Suguro. Rin slid out of the jacket and hung it on his desk chair. While Kuro ate, Rin told him the night’s event. Even though the cat was stuffing his face, he was listening to everything Rin told him. When he explained the Kiss Cam, Kuro almost choked on a piece of tuna. “Wait, you did what?” “I kissed Suguro.” By finally saying it out loud, Rin completely lost his shit. “I kissed Suguro.” His hands flew to his head, grabbing fistful of hair. “Suguro kissed me.” He jumped to his feet. “I kissed Suguro!” The boy started pacing the room, mumbling to himself. “Well he is a nice guy,” said Kuro with rice in his mouth. “I approve.” “You approve? What are you my mother?” Rin stopped his pacing to kneel in front of his friend. “No, I’m your familiar.” Kuro cocked his head. “I don’t know how I’d be able to birth you. I’m a boy.” Rin chuckled as he scratched behind Kuro’s ear. “Yes, that’s the reason. It has nothing to deal with you being a cat.” He leaned into the boys’ touch, purring as he laid on his stomach. “So this whole date was all Shima’s fault?” Rin smiled. “Yup, it’s all Shima’s fault. Remind me to thank him later.”
SPN Draaaable. Magic, Bunnies, and Pigeons.
“Cas... I know that’s you.”
He got an earnest soft whimpering in reply, along with a lap full of fur.
“Of course I know it’s you. Generally speaking, small rabbits don’t have glowing blue eyes and hop out of tan trench coats laying on the floor. Not usually, no. Now, if you’re up for it, let’s go beat that dumb ass magician running away from us into turning you back, hmm?”
Cas nodded emphatically and allowed Dean to hoist him up to his hip in a one handed grip. The other calloused hand lifted up his trusty gun to continue the hunt. Cas had the briefest moment of unease at the fact that his legs were all dangling free below the solid grip of a hand that was 3/4ths his length, wrapped around him underneath. He stilled his wriggling soon after. He was in Dean’s hands, so he knew he was safe. The jacket flapped around him and the body that towered over and partially around him thudded along in pursuit of the Magician.
Sam had been in another room two floors down and too far away to help in the chase, but that reason why presented itself later to Dean and Cas.
Dean wasted no time on confronting the Magician, knowing that all they needed was a moment to curse him as well, and just shot the man in the back of his knees to get him to stop. The pain also kept the asshole from concentrating enough to do anymore harm to them. Dean stooped low to drop Cas onto the floor behind a row of seats in the theater that the man had been cutting through.
Dean glanced at Cas’s huddled form and winced a little at how vulnerable he looked sitting there, shivering at the huge world around him. Dean saw Cas nod minutely up at him and he nodded back before taking the last few steps towards the magician.
It didn’t take long for the man to bind his leg with a few handkerchiefs pulled from his sleeve and to slip away unnoticed behind the seats when Dean was distracted with the small blueish gray rabbit. Dean cursed as he searched high and low for the assclown before giving up and returning to Cas’s side. admitting that he screwed up somehow.
A large brown pigeon flew into the theater haphazardly and landed a few seats away from Dean’s slumped form. Cas placed his paws up on Dean’s chest to gain some height and turned around to see what happened. Cas’s long ears pivoted around before they flatted against his head, brushing against Dean’s face. Cas’s head cocked slowly at the brown bird that was flailing about on the seats. Loosing feathers left and right before scrambling up to the back of the chair and cooed annoyingly at Dean, like it was all his fault.
“Heya, Sammy.” Dean sighed tiredly and hung his head. “Fuck.” His hand stroked Cas’s soft fur as he finally looked up again and took in the sight of the brown pigeon flapping his wings out as if on display while it made a few indignant sounds at him. “I know, I know, we’ll fix this. Just gotta get you two somewhere safe first.”
Sam puffed up his feathers and shook himself out. Satisfied that Dean seemed appropriatly chastised for leaping into danger before Sam got to him as backup, but in all fairness, Dean couldn’t waste a single second before chasing after the bad guy because the bad guy could literally perform real magic! There was no telling what he’d do if he had a chance to escape and regroup.
Dean glanced around the empty theater again before securing Castiel’s squirming furry body to his stomach again, tucking him in close and holstering his weapons. Dean walked down the aisle to where Sam was perched and offered up his hand. Sam fidgeted in place before bravely stepping up onto the offered fingers and Dean resisted the urge to move too quickly. He wanted out of this place before something worse happened to them.
Sam was lifted carefully to Dean’s shoulder where he hesitated in dismounting. Sam was not used to being this small, and he certainly wasn’t used to riding around on his brother’s shoulders. He hadn’t done anything like that since they were kids. Dean waited patiently for Sam to get comfortable up there and was glad that those tiny claws of his didn’t get through his jacket.
“Hold on tight guys, I got this.” Dean said with a tone that was as confident as he could make it. he started walking towards the nearest exit, free hand hovering next to his side when it wasn’t petting Cas’s head. The rabbit was just so fucking fluffy he couldn’t resist for too long. Cas seemed to like it in any case so Dean didn’t see the need in stopping. Sam swayed with Dean’s gait, even though the hunter tried to keep his steps even and level. Dean felt the small weight on his shoulder scoot closer to his head and block out his periphery on that side. Sam’s tiny hazel eyes darting at all the sudden sounds coming at them on the busy sidewalk. Dean nodded amicably at the other passersby that looked quizzically at his animals and explained briefly that they were trained professionals, and weren’t going to give anyone rabies.
There were a few that stopped to ask if they could pet them, and Dean got the go ahead from his angel and brother in the form of a few taps on his skin. if they didn’t tap, Dean kept on walking with a curt apology on his lips. They weren’t his pets and it wasn’t up to him. He rounded the corner and blinked at the place where he had parked his Impala. In it’s place, was a toy sized model of his car.
“Oh this Merlin bitch is going down.” Dean’s growl came out and Sam shifted a few steps further away on his shoulder and Cas twisted a bit to look up at Dean’s hardened expression. “Don’t worry guys... I’m good. It’s all good.” he muttered and shook his shoulders out from the tension which startled Sam into flying off of his shoulder perch. Sam swooped around clumsily in the air and landed next to the car and glared up at his brother before fluffing his feathers and hopping up onto the toy car’s roof. Hunkering down and sulking at being thrown off.
Dean stepped forward and lifted up the car with Sam still on top as he straightened back up again. Peering down at his small family that looked up at him in turn. Dean sighed heavily and starting the long walk back to the motel.
back at the motel which was thankfully less than a couple miles away, he set the Impala and therefore Sam on the ground and went for his wallet. He had to set Cas down too because he must have put it in that other pocket Cas was blocking. Or maybe it was in his jacket pockets...
Sam looked over at Cas before hopping off of the car and walking awkwardly over to the rabbit that was twice his size. Both looking up at the growling coming from far above.
“Son of a Bitch stole my wallet too?!?!” Dean started pacing before sitting down on the steps in front of the motel. Having himself a good sulk as he tried to think about what to do now.
If it was a normal lock, he could have picked it within minutes, but it was a key card door and the card had been in his wallet. All he could think to do now was wait till nightfall and break in to retrieve their stuff from the room. He would have asked the Motel manager for a spare key but he’s pretty sure that they had a no pets policy here, and asking Sam and Cas to go hide was putting them at too much risk. Besides the fact that if the manager insisted on opening the door for him himself, he’d see the stash of guns and research notes scattered everywhere and they just did not need that kind of attention.
Cas nuzzled at Dean’s elbow until he moved it a little, allowing the small rabbit access to his lap. Cas snuggled in and licked at Dean’s hand with such gentle tenderness that it made Dean jolt a little. Sam walked around the foot long car and using his wings and head, pushed it closer to Dean so the Impala wasn’t in the middle of the walkway. Then Sam hopped up onto Dean’s knee and grazed his right wing over Dean’s slack hands. Cooing something comforting up at his giant brother.
They’ll figure it out. They’re still here, still together.
“Well, we may not have much, but we got wings of hope,” Dean rubbed a rough knuckle up against Sam’s fluffy feathers, earning himself a playful peck or two, “- and four rabbit’s feet for luck.” Dean gently pulled out Cas’s fore paw to wiggle it around. Dean reached down for the toy sized Impala and held it up. “We aren’t gonna let that Chris Angel wannabe douche-bag toy with us, now are we?”
Cas waggled his head, ears flopping around at the vigorous shaking head, and Sam squawk-cooed at him as he flexed his tiny clawed feet. Dean reached a thumb into the Impala’s tiny door and honked the horn a couple times. It made an embarrassingly high pitched beep at him which had all three laughing their asses off. They got this.
