okay now that i've had some coffee, let's chat

specifically, about how you act on the internet is a blueprint on how other people will treat you and how this intersects with the functionality of anon asks

if you've followed me for any significant amount of time, none of this will be anything i haven't said before, or i think be at all surprising to the rest of you, but i guess it bears repeating

so let's repeat: how you act on the internet is a guidebook on how other people will interact with you

like invites like. if you talk about a topic, you're going to get more commentary on that topic. this is because you're demonstrating that this topic is something you're comfortable talking about because you are talking about it

if you respond one way to something, people are going to reasonably assume you will respond the same way to them if they send you something similar. if someone asks for advice and you give it, people are going to think you're comfortable giving out advice and that asking for advice is an appropriate way to interact with you. if someone asks for information and resources and you provide them, people are going to think it's appropriate and acceptable to ask you for information and resources

i've seen this come up with other people before, where they do one thing and get frustrated and upset when that generates more of that thing. but people are just following your lead

now, anon asks

the function of anon asks is that the only way to reply to them is to respond to them publicly. you cannot privately reply to an anon

this means that every anon ask answered tells people how to interact with you. it is not and cannot be treated the same as a 1 on 1 conversation. it doesn't matter if that's not intention or what the anon wants. it's the reality of the situation

i don't answer non-anon asks publicly, with rare exceptions like it's funny or i think my answer to them would be interesting to others and non-upsetting for the askee for me to share (there are times i've given things like writing advice or commentary that i've thought might be interesting to the rest of you, but the askee had something in their original ask that i though they potentially wouldn't appreciate being immortalized on my blog)

if there's ever anything that someone doesn't want me to answer publicly no matter what, they can ensure this by just including it in their ask. even if i was inclined to be a hypocrite and ignore how people want to be interacted with (i am not) i am obviously not going to post it publicly if you ask me not to because then everyone would see me do that and think, rightfully, that i'm a huge jerk

when someone is rude or critical of me on anon, they're putting me in an unfair position. i can either not answer them or i have to turn their answer into a public performance, consumable by everyone. there is no other option

the vast majority of people use anon to say something kind or neutral where my public and private response would be basically identical and that's not what this is about. if i had an issue with anon asks in general, i wouldn't have them on

by sending criticism on anon, they're protecting themselves by not having any of their opinions or thoughts associated with them. nothing they say is connected to them and they're free of any consequences of their actions. in contrast, if i respond, my only option is to respond publicly. which means not only is my response attached to me and my name, but it has to be publicly consumable, i have to open myself up to the thoughts and commentary of everyone else if i'm going to reply

that means, before we get into anything the anon is saying, they're demonstrating both that they're a coward and they don't care about my comfort or my privacy - something they obviously highly prioritize for themselves

if that's the premise, why would i take kindly to anything they have to say after that, no matter what it is?

additionally, if i respond kindly and measured to these types of asks, that tells other people that it's an acceptable way to interact with me

it is not

if this ask had been sent off anon, my response would have been: "glad you enjoyed the story. feel free to toss any typos you notice into a comment (easiest way for me to keep track) and i'll correct them when i have a chance"

when it's just me talking to another person, i can choose to ignore or gloss over any awkwardness or mild rudeness because it's not going to come back to bite me. it's not a performance or a guidebook on how others will treat me. it's just you and me talking

but because it's anon, i have to keep in mind that i'm not just talking to them - i'm talking to everyone else too. so i have to establish that: i'm not interested in a beta, but am more than happy to correct typos; i don't care to hear about about how my typos personally upset you; and, in this case, that this is the type of message i don't want to receive on anon

because if i don't make it clear what i don't want, i'm going to receive more of it. that's simply a neutral fact of how people and the internet work

the more considerate you are of me, the more considerate of you i'm going to be in return

tldr: if you want a response meant just for you, you have to ask in a way that i can respond only to you. which isn't an anon ask. them's the breaks

Aaahhhhh thank you so much! All credit to the initial poster for kicking my brain into gear on this. (For the curious, here's the series the ask mentions!)

But yes, to expand on those tags, there's so *much* about a/b/o as a genre that, to me at least, starts from an ace perspective.

For example, in most a/b/o universes where there are, in fact, betas (as opposed to another common take on omegaverse worldbuilding where there are just alphas and omegas), then the inherent starting premise of the world is that there are two kinds of people--people whose lives in large part revolve around intense, consuming, and uncontrollable sexual desire and people whose lives don't--which is to say, the inherent starting premise is that some people are (at least symbolically) ace. Indeed, in most of these fics, that's considered unremarkable in-universe... which is, from that point of view, a fantasy of a world where asexuality is commonplace and accepted. (Then again, it's rare for the main characters of such stories to be betas - it looks like a fantasy of ace acceptance, but the symbolically ace characters are relegated to the sidelines, as if a life that doesn't revolve around that kind of desire isn't worth telling stories about.)

In another example, a/b/o fics often posit a worldbuilding where the norm is that a person will only go into heat or rut (i.e., experience sexual desire) in reaction to a particular person--maybe a "fated mate"--and indeed, that the presence of sexual desire is proof of some kind of intense emotional connection between two people... which is basically just a sci-fi-ification of the experience of being demisexual. It's really that straightforward.

And that's without even getting into the ways that heat and rut often appear in fics as funhouse mirrors of what garden-variety allosexual desire looks like to people who don't experience it themselves. The original post says that "magical pheromones made them do it" sounds just as plausible to an ace person as "looking at someone in their underwear made them do it," but you don't even need the word "magical" - the idea that hormones could make you lose your head with desire and behave in ways that would embarrass you (or worse) once their influence wanes is both a sci-fi conceit for fanfic porn and actually how many, many people on this planet go through their lives on a regular basis.

What's ironic is how, despite all this, most a/b/o fic makes no room for real ace people (as opposed to symbolic aces, i.e., betas), especially sex-repulsed ace people. What are those folks supposed to do when heat strikes? Or other people who, for various reasons, might not want sex or be in a position to consent to it? I think a/b/o often teeters on the edge of body horror; in those situations, it tips right over. Most a/b/o worldbuilding does nothing to address this--and I think that's one of the great blank spaces in the genre that is ripe for exploring with all kinds of interesting fic!

And.. Isn't it pretty common knowledge that 1. Lots of customs won't allow people to get divorced without breaking some kind of sacred rule.

Andre says that "a goetia has never behaved this way before" and we're not entirely sure about which part he's referring to. If it's the cheating, wanting a divorce, or sleeping w. An imp. However, considering Stella saying "what do you think the rest of the goetia will think" right after he insisted on the divorce, i'm guessing it's at least part of it. And so.. Stolas probably didn't even think he was allowed to. Especially not since it was an arranged marriage.

2. Stolas' marriage is abusive. And gee idk.. Lots of people in his situation choose to stay for several reasons. Like for example, protecting their kid, or cus they think it'll be worse if they leave. Stolas, being the conflict avoidant guy that he is, choose the strategy of doing as little as possible that would piss her off. Including leaving her.

One of the big big reasons as to why Stolas loves Blitz is because he "awakened" him. As stated in full moon. And he doesn't just mean his gaykening either.

Stolas made "peace" with being trapped in his situation years ago. He went through the motions and did everything he could for other people. His reason for living was his daughter. His own happiness didn't matter..

Blitz lit a fire in him, he inspired him to start making changes by showing him an alternative. By making him feel wanted. Etc.. Etc... Before Blitz, a divorce wasn't even a possibility in Stolas' head.

You can be frustrated all you want, but that's not the story they're telling. And it's quite stupid being mad about someone elses creation not being what YOU want. Normally, people stop engaging in it when that's the case. Not try to gaslight people that it's "bad writing" or "glorifying cheating" or whatever the fuck.

Here is Pilot!Stella in the Loo-Loo Land concept art. She was always going to be a bad person, even in the pilot days. Meaning that even if Stolas was a villan, he would still have alot of things that would make him relatable in some ways.

But of course, according to the antis Villan!Stolas would have been 100% irredeemable. But Stella, she is just a poor victim. Fucking hypocrites!

Another thing that bothers me about people who give Stolas shit for hiding his face with the menu at Ozzie's, is how it's always the same people who also give Stolas shit for "cheating" on his "wife"... but now they suddenly WANT Stolas to throw his "family" under the bus for Blitz?! Not to mention it's also always the same people who shit on Stolas for defending Blitz in Mastermind... WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE WANT FROM HIM?!

A work in progress! Finally getting around to finishing some ALG WIPs before I begin more! This ones based off of TPOT 17, Six explains about these four integers and why One was supposed to be gone. Honestly it would be really cool in canon if Six actually explains to these four about whatever is going on with One.

ALG Three! Or kind of(?) a little bit of an updated design of them. Feral guy, proceed with caution, who knows why theyre locked up, and why theyve willingly kept himself locked up. Hopefully Needle's crew, Six and Purple Face alongside them they wont find them a problem when they encounter him in the EXIT.

A while back ive had a little bit of a problem whether to give the speakerboxes (minus PSB) a design or not, you can easily tell I chose the former here. Though Announcer is probably subject to change, I dont exactly know yet.

FSB (Firey SB) is looking rather unfinished, but theres a catch! Theres lore behind him that connects to Firey himself! FSB wasnt finished with fully obtaining his orange metal plating, by the time Firey snatched him, he was left like this, though thankfully he was fully functioning, would Firey ever fully put the metal plating on FSB? We dont know, hes not exactly good with robotics, especially with a speakerbox he didnt technically make! Yes, unlike canon Firey creating FSB, ALG Firey DID NOT create ALG FSB, rather theres a lot of stuff behind the reason FSB was even made to begin with!

Now Flower SpeakerBox, I havent thought of what I would do with her yet, probably same in a way as canon, but ill think of something later.

Announcer is still well, Announcer, also adding to the fact Remote is his child, Ive seen a bunch of people have this headcanon and I greatly enjoy it, so I might as well make it a thing for this au! This also means Remote wouldnt even appear as a possible debuter for neither BFDI or BFDIA, but she will eventually be a contestant for during the events of BFB, she encounters everyone else around the events of IDFB, and yes, Announcer is the one who installed that railgun to her arm, as "extra measures" he so claims it to be, guess he blew most of the budget onto that due to how high tech it looks. He's still more less the same as canon.

Another thing I might add is the possibility of Speaker Boxes and Algebraliens aware of each others existences for such a very long time, and dont like each other all too much, a possible rivalry perhaps? The Speaker Boxes came to Earth first and were pretty much known compared to any Algebraliens, One was there for a very long time too, however she was hidden in the sidelines for nobody to ever see her, whereas the Speaker Boxes were more out in the open and were willing to communicate with any object they encounter.
