it's so funny to see how everyone is jumping ship the moment a new twitter rival appears only to fall into obscurity in a few days. admittedly, it's not that bad with threads in this regard, because it has a decently-sized corporation behind it. though, it's still not any good since the goddamn corporation is Meta Facebook. like, please, do you have memory of a goldfish? assuming that enough people will make a move there, it'll still be an extremely neutered (with the advertiser-friendly community guidelines) and meant to do what facebook does best - harvesting all personal data about you they can get away with.

(not saying that twitter was ever perfect in this regard, social media platforms - except for facebook - don't really have any good way to make money, so trading personal data is the bare minimum they can do)

what's even worse, i see europeans being annoyed that they can't use threads yet, and, like, i don't know how to tell you, but

it's maybe for a good reason.

facebook was trying to reinvent itself in public view with meta and the metaverse, but it didn't work for a plethora of reasons. now, they are trying to do the same by cannibalising the bleeding-out twitter, and the possibility that they might succeed is bad. the sm landscape might be slowly unraveling, and facebook-owned platforms being the biggest survivors would be, like, really bad.
