actually sometimes being neurodivergent is great bc you have a particular kind of Silly Mode that just . manifests glory. harmless fun is my precious side quest & i have a high score in whimsy. like okay if i gotta be the first dork in the dance pit it's gonna be me and this random toddler and we're gonna avril-style rock ouuuuttt

Was pondering how Mark’s rigid ass mask/lens is prob a Budget Thing (since squishy, bendy lens are pretty much a mandate for all hero animated series, like JL, BTAS, TNBA, Spider-Man, etc), and then I was slapped with a vision of Mark in a more JL/BTAS-ish style and I had to see it through. I am a genius btw.

#i had MANY thoughts while drawing my brain melted while posting so if ya have questions send 'em / ask 'em #but rapid fire: leans more into nightwing's look b/c bro's name is legit grayson + moves away from his father's sidekick/protege +#and legit has a blue and black outfit. that is soooo winking at robin (dick grayson specifically)#mark has a more casual / athletic fit and tried to keep his usual kicked puppy expression / mood #which then contrasts his more emotional (hero) side he acts upon when he's suited up as ANOTHER wink to the whole dual persona #mark does it unintentionally as he's eager to prove himself as invincible and thus more emotional/confidential/eager + feels lackluster #as just mark grayson.#but it's such a comic book trope it's interesting el show ignores the potential stakes for that + prob cause they dont focus on #villains #mark has debbie's cheek bones + pearls both so he skip the whole copy paste design tactic cartoons annoyingly use + wink at batman w/ pearl #nolan wears pink and debbie wears green b/c they have conflicting views on raising Mark but (used to?) stand on a somewhat #united front by having same collared shirt. but mark leans more on debbie's stuff visually w/ cooler colors + white shirt underneath #mark keeps his cape as another wink/nod at robins (tim drake TNBS specifically) which mimics his Dad + kid-like eagerness for hero stuff #which he gets rid off when he goes blue/black suit arc (cough cough nightwing looking ass) so just leaned MORE into it #mark has a heart on his chest because he's TRYING to do what he think he's best + emotional asf #lens/goggles are diff to keep the audiences' eye back at HIS eyes + look more ominous and predatory which the black/blue combo #already COULD do in canon but in show its just pallete swapped which ruins the more ominious look it probably intended #and doesnt really scream “OH NO! THERE'S NO GOLD! i know that people have already discussed this at length but i'm watching the patreon behind the scenes character discussion for frost and listening to derek talk about the psionic order and "mind over matter" and all that and then comparing that to frost throwing his pack in ep 46 has me feeling like the exploding galaxy brain meme. like. he has this canonically 110 pound bag or whatever and yeah that's kind of a meme bc he just picks shit up and Never uses it but that's also So interesting in the context of how he was raised to Not value physical items and give no credence to "things" but rather to ideas, thoughts, mentalities. Frost was taught to hold this value his entire life yet carries a 110 pound bag around with him everywhere. And in that same vein, the order taught him that physical relationships are also supposed to be unimportant, and having people tie him down will only block him from reaching his true potential. yet he's traveled for years with these three friends and when he's "replaced" by someone else for just a few hours on guys' night he feels sensitive and self conscious. and in the carnival horror ride we see that his worst fear is being alone. Everything about his life contradicts everything he was taught he’s supposed to hold dear, (and side note, i think one of the most interesting parts about this video is the discussion of whether or not frost is Aware of what he's doing, Aware that he's directly going against the pillars of his order, but that's a discussion for another time). And all of this culminates in episode 46, when frost stands alone, all of his friends dead or dying around him, and his throws his pack. on some level i already understood what this meant for him, the getting rid of everything he was saving because it doesn't matter anymore, but after approaching it more from the side of these tenants of his faith, it's like. holy shit. he just lost all his friends, these physical attachments that "tie him down," and now he's willingly giving up all his physical belongings as well, and this is it, this is the moment he reaches that pure mind over matter because he doesn't have anything anymore. there is nothing tying him down. this should be nirvana. but instead, it's the worst moment of his fucking life. everything that was supposed to bring him paradise and freedom and immortality and whatnot has only brought him unimaginable pain and grief.

Speaking of coins, I think it's neat that we have a trinity of Apollos with uncommon characteristics:

Apollo Karneios with ram horns and ram ears, Apollo Soranus with a star diadem and a pick-axe and Apollo Vejovis with winged head, a trident and a dagger. (The last two are the results of his syncretism with Roman deities)

What's more fun about the coins of Apollo-Vejovis is that some of them put a thunderbolt under his bust or straight up show him holding it:

#apollo #look Apollo has already used thunderbolt in a couple of classical texts #I don't think Zeus would mind if his son borrowed it for a few minutes for a photoshoot #Okay jokes aside Vejovis is such an obscure deity (just like Soranus)#The explanation given by Gellius is that Jupiter/Jove is ultimately derived from “iuvare” which means “to help”#so Vejovis was the antithesis of Jove...doing the opposite of help #he was believed to bring harm with his arrows #So was also prayed upon to avert evils #hence his syncretism with Apollo #I also feel like they also just syncretised Jupiter with Apollo to some extent here #because soon after stating his identification with Apollo #Gellius has mentioned that a she-goat was sacrificed to Vejovius (yknow as a nod to Amalthea nursing Zeus/Jupiter #this also happens with Apollo Soranus actually #Soranus is conflated with Apollo and called the highest of the gods #and Servius notes that “highest of the gods” is a title given to Jupiter #so yeah it was a not a complete or even a direct syncretism but there was a line that connected them #and i find the implications very interesting #mine

I know this was technically forever ago on my part (since I’m halfway through ep 30), but I am still REELING over the whole Gideon love curse in episode 26. Mostly because Kremy was under the aladrin curse, and Gideon WILLINGLY mentioned that he loved Kremy’s regular form just as much as the aladrin form. And then, when the love curse eventually dissipated, the DM said “you see Kremy as the sniveling alligator that he is, but you still love him”

ALSO???? THE ODDLY CONVIENENT DICE ROLLS???? LIKE WITH THE MATCHING LOBSTER OUTFITS???? Also the fact that the rest of the Krew (Twig and Torbek included) took one look at them, and basically keep saying “oh my sweet fuck just kiss already”. Hell, that one snake NPC took one look at Gideon and essentially said “I know what you are”. Why else would she bring up “falling in love” specifically????
