best kind of character development is where they don't actually become better people in any sense of the word but instead just grow increasingly psychologically dependent on another person for their entire sense of self and value in the world until they define themselves utterly by their place in that other person's world

got into a convo with a friend about the aspect of how naked a minimally-clothed character actually feels depending on the clothes involved and made this to prove my case

Theory: The Clone X was not Cody like some people think or even Fives (I know he's been dead for a very long time but so was Boba Fett and look where we are. Plus, Echo was supposed to be certainly dead too; making him Winter Soldier-esque storyline wouldn't be that surprising) or not even Slick.
((Also, now that we've seen his face devoid of any tattoos or scars I think first two takes are definitely not applicable anymore; they wouldn't put that much effort to make him unrecognizable))
Back to the point: In my opinion, The Clone X was none other than...
Fox.
Now let me explain.
Who else, other than X, was loyal to the law and justice dictated by it over any moral or ethic code?
Fox.
Who else was portrayed with such single-minded focus on hunting down traitors of the government he served, regardless of what it was?
Fox.
Who else could know not only Coruscant so well but also identify Rex like they knew each other?
He already was a remarkably successful tracker of traitors, why not make him more efficient by pointing them out for him?
Good soldiers follow orders, after all.

Excerpt from a FOP fanfic I'll probably never post with some Cosmo angst
He wished he wasn't so weak. He was the type to cry at a paper cut. It was easy to make fun of him for it—he knew that well enough. He used to join in on it, making fun of the little quirks that made him… "stupid".
That word was a funny one. He was well aquainted with it. He found that he didn't mind it as much as he felt he should. It was true enough. It set stranger's expectations low if he called himself stupid and then he could only impress them from there. He wondered when the word had become part of him, rather than a little joke one would toss into the air.
Dropped your wand again? Ah, silly me, I'm just a little stupid.
Granted the wrong wish? Lost control of your magic? Stupid me, let's all have a laugh and move on.
Burned millions of innocents? Brought ruin to the planet? Traumatized all of Fairyworld?
You could hardly blame a guy for being stupid.
It was just how he was.
Wanda saw the word for what it was. A great barrier against all consequences. Blame the S word. Not himself. Never blame himself.
And she took him by the hand one day, after yet another screwup tossed aside with one word. She didn't ask why he said that. For all their quiet romantic truths, the word was still too big a conversation to breach.
Instead, she held his hands, studied his face. She didn't even use the S word. She just quietly asked why he was so quick to brush it off. Why he didn't consider for a moment that he might have done something wrong.
When had she unraveled him so completely? When had she peeled away the jokes and the idiocy to understand him at his core. She could figure out his feelings with a single look. One little fidget. If his wings buzzed just slightly too fast. She could always tell when something was off.
How did she do it? He wished he could do the same.
He ached to know her as well as she knew him.
He was just a little slower to figure out the quirks.
A little… well.
Stupid.

almost didn’t put Markl and Oliver on the slide but someone else on the wiki pointed out that they look alike which gives me validation that I’m not crazy for thinking that. I don’t necessarily think it was intentional but I do find it interesting to note. I’d be shocked if Marcassin’s design wasn’t at least partially based on Howl though.

it's my fault for looking at twitter in the first place, but every day unhappy lawyers wake up and craft dozens of tweets which express their subnormal grasp of the american political scene in 280 characters or less. one can only assume this is to punish the rest of us for not having gone to law school.

Quote
In spite of Schuylers black eyes, I have still a part for the public and another for you; so your impatience to have me married is misplaced; a strange cure by the way, as if after matrimony I was to be less devoted than I am now.
Alexander Hamilton to John Laurens, September 16, 1780
I was just re-reading this quote for the first time in a while, and realized it’s got some unique qualities that point to its integrity as a piece of evidence.
With the Laurens-Hamilton relationship, how many possible meanings a letter has is almost more important than what is said in the first place. This isn’t a quote that can be excused as humor or teasing or “how people wrote back then.” It’s a serious quote from Hamilton that talks about his relationship with Laurens, which we don’t have to many of. It’s not like the beginning of the April 1779 letter, which can be brushed off as “how people wrote.” It’s not innuendo that can be excused as “bawdy humor.” It’s a serious and non-flowery or sentimental sentence which contains many elements that point to a romance between Hamilton and Laurens. There is no other strong explanation for Laurens to be directly compared to Schuyler. (And especially the “black eyes” part-- in spite of something Hamilton is attracted to about his wife, he still has a “part” for Laurens...) The rest of the quote is even more implicating-- why would Laurens want Hamilton to be married so that Hamilton’s affection would wane? Why would their relationship need a cure if it was a socially acceptable friendship?
tl, dr: Because Hamilton’s writing is so direct and clear, with so few opposing interpretations, (but many implications!) or the ability to be construed as a joke, this letter is a pretty unique piece of evidence, and one of the strongest to suggest a Laurens-Hamilton relationship. (And good for refuting criticism.)

"Antiochos’ and Stratonike’s activities in the eastern part of the [Seleukid] empire are largely shrouded in mystery, but, as Engels has argued, Antiochos was far from idle since he embarked on a large building programme and was active in securing the frontier. There is some evidence to suggest that his new bride accompanied him for much of this period. We can perhaps identify Stratonike’s presence with her new husband in the Upper Satrapies through the gold coinage minted in Susa and Baktria in c . 287. The two gold coin sets are of the same type, the obverse features the laureate head of Apollo facing right and the reverse features Artemis in an elephant biga facing left with the legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ in exergue.

Figure 2: Coin of Seleukos I from Baktria Depicting Apollo on the Obverse and Artemis with Elephant Biga on the Reverse (Houghton and Lorber 2002, SC I no. 257).
The reverse image of Artemis in the elephant biga is within the same design type as a large range of other coinage issued by Seleukos I celebrating the success of his elephants and thus his eastern campaigns. The appearance of Artemis is however unique to these coin types. This suggests the emphasis on the close links between the twin gods, Artemis and Apollo, depicted on the obverse and reverse of this coinage . Since there appears to be as a close link between Apollo and Antiochos as there is between Zeus and Seleukos, the presence of Artemis could be seen as a symbol for Stratonike. This would create a series of parallels: Seleukos/Zeus, Antiochos/Apollo, and Stratonike/Artemis. The first two reflect what we see for these two kings at the list of priests of Seleukid kings in Seleukeia in Pieria . Additionally, it may be notable that the sister-wife ideology [...] appears to be evident later in the reign of Antiochos.
As all of the Apollo/Artemis cointypes were produced on high value gold coinage, this suggests that it was issued in order to commemorate a significant event. While the type was similar to other Seleukid coinage, the shift from Athena to Artemis was clearly discernible and unique. The arrival of the new joint-King and Queen in the region to take up residence would have been a suitable moment for the issuing of the new coin type. This advertisement of their new rule certainly falls in line with Seleukos’ wedding speech which confirmed their new roles."
-David Engels & Kyle Erickson, "Apama and Stratonike – Marriage and Legitimacy", "Seleukid Royal Women" (edited by Edited by Altay Coşkun and Alex McAuley). The pictures of the coins are screenshots from the book.
#historicwomendaily#stratonike#antiochus I soter#seleukid empire#hellenistic period#ancient history#history#'Antiochus’ and Stratonike’s activities in the eastern part of the empire are largely shrouded in mystery' don't do this to me#this mystery is mainly because of lack of accessibility or of evidence than lack of activity - but it's still a shame#also re the 'sister-wife ideology'#as historians have pointed out Stratonike was called 'hirtu' aka 'principal wife' in the famous Borsippa Cylinder of Antiochus I#an unusual title which indicates her precedence but also implies a polygamous situation (which was normal in the Hellenistic period)#centuries later Stephanos of Byzantion claimed that Antiochus named the city of Nysa 'after his wife Nysa'#Stephanos isn't really reliable: he's almost definitely wrong about the adjacent information he gives about the city of Antioch being named#after Antiochus's mother#but it may nonetheless indicate he had a minor wife named Nysa#epigraphic evidence also suggests Antiochus married a woman called 'sister-wife'#which many scholars have theorized was Nysa (as his half-sister)#though others believe the title was most likely honorific and shouldn't be taken literally#(for example Laodike - queen of Antiochos III - was also called sister-wife when we know she was actually his cousin)#so the epigraphical evidence may indicate a non-sibling Nysa or Stratonike#if it was a non-sibling Nysa then she may have also been a cousin or relative#but these coins of Antiochus and Stratonike as Apollo-and-Artemis clearly does play into the 'sister-wife ideology'#we know Antiochus strongly associated himself with Apollo and Stratonike made generous donations at Delos at Artemis-and-Apollo temples#so IF the title was honorific then it could have likely referred to Stratonike as well#also - we have no idea who Nysa was but if a city was named after her I wonder if her marriage was to boost local alliances?#which doesn't prelude the idea of her being a relative#we also don't know when they married - he married Stratonike in his late 20s so he may have even been married to her before that. who knows#anyway. the title of 'hirtu' being applied for Stratonike was VERY unique for the Seleukids...it's interesting to think about#(ik nobody but me cares about this but oh well)

#A nice episode :) I have a lot of headache tho and forgot everything I wanted to say#The ss/kk is nice :) It's nice every time Akutagawa spontaneously saves Atsushi seemingly with no reason to#The animation was very nice! It's evident a lot of money and effort went into this season and these last episodes in particular#And I like the art style a lot better than the one in the other seasons. Even season 4 where the animation is comparatively as good#What more. The Kyouka screentime is nice. The whole Guild aftermath celebrations section is very nice and heartwarming to watch#I still take a lot of issues with the entire way Kyouka's entrance exam was conceived but I think they're fairly self-explanatory.#Also fundamentally coherent with b/sd's general worldviews so#But even then there's a line that bothers me to an unexplainable amount from the first time I watched it to now.#The “it hurts” when she's hugging Atsushi. And I've reflected over that line so long from the moment I first heard it...#I think. Its meaning is to symbolize how being in the light sometimes will still result to be too overwhelming for Kyouka–#to the point at times it will still end up hurting her. But that doesn't make it any less worth it#So to say‚ there's no such thing as perfect happy endings. But she is going to be okay nonetheless#BUT IT STILL BUGS ME. I feel like it's part of a school of thought for whom we should just accept the fact that there's evil in the world–#that we can't eradicate. And nothing can be done about it. Which I don't think is a functional or useful way of thinking?#ALSO I know it's. Most definitely‚ 99% not how the scene is supposed to be interpreted#BUT ATSUSHI IS THE ONE HUGGING AND THUS HURTING HER and you know how there is this very slight narrative that seemingly–#frames Kyouka and Atsushi as romantic partners and like... Idk.#In that context the line almost feels expression of a narrative of wives having to bear pain that is natural and unavoidable.#I know this definitely wasn't the intended meaning it's just a bad impression for some reason I can't be able to shrug off even after years#But don't listen to me#I don't think there's anything else to add. Overall a very good episode.#Take a shot every time someone says “all according to Dazai's plan”#random rambles

New Scotland Yard: The Money Game (2.10, LWT, 1972)
"Incidentally, I've been looking up that fraud case Audrey was involved in with Freddie Larch, the time he got nicked."
"Oh, what about it?"
"Well, I think your friend's an even nastier piece of work than we give him credit for."
"Very likely. What's that got to do with Phil Horden?"
"Not much. Except nothing's ever quite as simple as it looks."
#new scotland yard#the money game#1972#classic tv#lwt#bill turner#basil dawson#frank williams#john woodvine#john carlisle#derek smith#pauline delaney#michael balfour#kevork malikyan#noel davis#john dunbar#carolyn jones#john rapley#peter vaughan clarke#tony kirby dignam#jacqueline holborough#well we did a hippy episode; time for a comedy episode. another staple of 70s uk cop shows‚ and actually i have to say this is one of the#better pitched examples: too often shows like this one would produce some throwaway goofy episode that sat incredibly awkwardly within the#series as a whole‚ but this is a very gentle type of wry humour instead of overt nonsense. the case is counterfeit money‚ which as Ward#points out‚ is rather below Kingdom's lofty chief super (but then it's a comic ep‚ it could hardly be a spree killer...). lovely Pauline#Delaney and lovely Derek Smith are the forgers‚ but the script works so hard at making them likeable (and succeeds!) that it's genuinely#disappointing when they're caught. once again to give the show its due‚ this is acknowledged in the ending (Kingdom regrets that 'nice#people' are being punished where nastier sorts are rewarded). we also get a little bit of Ward lore: he evidently lives with his mother (or#at the very least he holidays with her)‚ he can't see without his glasses‚ and the prospect of having his hair cut appears to horrify him#bad luck Ward‚ who does indeed suffer a trim this ep (and gets a fake tash into the bargain). small lore but lore nonetheless!

"I know, I know, but..."
But what if we could've changed it? Both brothers were asking themselves the same question, over and over again, wondering endlessly if they had been there with their family...would the outcome have been any better?
Could I have helped Willy overcome the drink? Would he not have drowned, had I been there? If we'd given them some money, if we'd been able to pitch in, would June not have gotten so sick, working herself like that?
Could we have kept those awful people from going after our nephew like that? Could we have made it so that he wasn't always so stepped on?
If I'd been there, I would've stopped that man...if I'd just been there, Randall and his lady love, they would've lived...!
All these thoughts continued to pile up in their minds, crashing into one another hard and fast, until June touched the pair's arms, pulling them out of their thoughts as she said, "There's no use dwelling on the past-what's done is done, there's no changing it. We've all made our peace with our lives, and our deaths. We're together now, and at the end of the day, that's what matters the most to us."
"I knew it'd be...hard to hear," Wilhelm said-understatement of the year, of course, and he winced a little saying it, before he continued, "But I didn't want to keep that secret from you. I wanted you to know-you...you deserved to know. You're my brothers, and...I just can't imagine keeping something that big from you."
Neither brother said anything more, instead settling for embracing their youngest brother, practically picking him up and off the ground when they did: It was a lot to swallow, a lot to take in, and they were sure the guilt would linger for a good long while...
...but they knew now, for better or worse. And at the very least, they were reunited now with Wilhelm, and that was worth its weight in gold to them both. There was a lot of catching up to do-and hopefully, the good stories outweighed the bad.
"Why don't we go downstairs?" Randall ventured to suggest-something to drink and some lighter conversation was in order.

ok I have jack jeanne character delusions bouncing around my skull I need to let loose, spoilers of varying severity for every main LI and maybe some side chars
kisa: at least a little bi (THOSE AO EVENTS MAN), also an NB girl
kai: my autistic king. depressed as hell where a lot of his emotions feel numbed. also avoidant attachment. I don't think he's ever had a thought or feeling about orientation etc in any shape or form he just loves kisa as a human being.
neji: he's mentally ill in a way that idk how to ascribe tbh. he is also giving ADHD (or at least executive dysfunction) though. I think he's bi/pan but heavily leaned toward men due to his fear of women but also he plays everything as a joke because he's scared of intimacy period so wildcard bitches
shirota: HE/HIM LESBIAN FOR REAL OK. also C-PTSD or at the very least disordered/resistant attachment
fumi: straight and cis but in a fun way. could easily be a drag queen
suzu: straight but had a bi crisis. questioning maybe. he's so genki that it don't matter
sou: straight and cis in a boring way. to me. anxious attachment though
minorikawa: gay but extremely in the closet about it
mare: questioning nonbinary trans fem (LITERALLY HAS A DEADNAME ???)
kasai: GAY AS HELL. in a way that's weirdly straight
ao: she is in gay love with kisa you can't tell me otherwise. she has a valentine event with handmade chocolate and everything come on now
