thinking about gohan and vegeta and how their bond is underrated
the difference in their reactions to each other 😭
Gohan being the first one to step between Vegeta and Certain Death, twice, without an ounce of hesitation, and Vegeta saving him back despite his feelings about battle intervention.
Vegeta knowing Gohan's the best of all of them
Vegeta and Gohan both born prodigies assigned an unfair amount of responsibility to be Great and be a Saiyan Messiah(tm) way too young by a stubborn and proud if not (relatively) well-meaning father who didn't see any other option and I just think Gohan doesn't get enough credit as like. The first serious muscle behind Geets' personal growth.
#Gohan the best boy 🥲#We love a LAD#this has been in my drafts for so long because idk how much I want to spam dbz on my dash but aLSO I AM SEEING GOHAN LOVE AND I LOVE GOHAN#AND AS A VEGETA FAN I MUST CONTRIBUTE TO THE GOHAN LOVE I LOVE THAT PURE-HEARTED BABY BOY#goku gets a lot of credit for geets growth but he was an anchor and a goal post -- which are important things to have!!#but lbffr gohan trunks and bulma are the ones who did ALL the heavy lifting and ALL the emotional labor until Vegeta could do it himself#'but goku was a great influence!' sure. but not as great an influence as gohan. Goku's a sweetheart but he's inconsiderate in so many ways#Gohan was the example. Gohan mentored the Trunks that shifted Vegeta's priorities. Gohan saved Vegeta's life without hesitation.#Gohan is the first person to genuinely say 'thank you' to Vegeta and Gohan is the first person that Vegeta genuinely says 'i'm sorry' to#Give Gohan his Goddamn Credit when we talk about the people responsible for Vegeta's growth!! He did SO MUCH!!

I have a stupid dbz question. How much should Vegeta weigh? I’ve seen the meme about the wiki saying he’s 164cm tall and 60kg, which is obviously not correct lol. However, the notes of that post give wildly varying opinions on what would actually be reasonable for him. I don’t take offense to the height, even if I feel like maybe it should be a little lower than that. So, assuming that the height is correct, what would be a reasonable amount for him to weigh? Preferably with some level of rationale for it lol (like basing it off someone with a comparable build or something like that)
#Vegeta#dbz#this is absolutely because I have been wondering for ages if Bulma could pick him up#I refuse to believe she’s shorter than him btw

Assuming Akira Toriyama and the Dragon Ball franchise were completely unaffected by the Jurassic World timeline variation, any of the kids who were fans (Sammy) would have left for the island while the episodic format of the Resurrection F movie was airing in Japan (so no real loss) and returned to find out that Goku Black was a thing.
They (she) would have missed the entirety of the Universe 6 arc. Which, honestly...not a lot for them (her) to miss.

my self-insert dragon ball OC, sorra, has hella trauma, but gets rescued by goku and becomes his adopted daughter. it's cathartic as fuck to write, so please also try that. unfortunately for sorra, goku fucking dies three years later. this fucked-up fourteen year old is now saddled with grief and the feeling that she should have fought cell instead of her little brother gohan, and persues tutelage from the other strongest fighter on the planet, vegeta. it's been over a decade since then.
i've been writing this OC for a year at least, and recently, i've been thinking about mind reading in dragon ball. they drop it as soon as it's introduced, for one; for two, if i was grappling with a childhood full of abuse and had the ability to share that burden instantly with a trusted confidant, i would do that shit in a heartbeat.
---
The sun filtering through Sorra's dirty porch window lit up her living room, but the light didn't reach her kitchen. It gave the apartment a lopsided energy. She'd been lying on the couch for what seemed like hours, and her phone got boring ages ago. She readjusted, careful not to kick her kind-of-uncle in the head. He sat on the floor. Inexplicably, it was his usual spot, and it was where he'd been since Sorra had gotten home. She was in a sensitive mood when they finished their training for the day, and although neither had acknowledged it out loud, she was soothed by his company. The entire bag of chips that he had knocked out in the meantime was a fair price. His voice had been left largely unused until now, and croaked slightly when he finally broke the silence.
"When you ask me to share your memories, does that really help you?"
"I... yeah, it does," Sorra responded in surprise. She shifted upright. "Why do you ask?"
"Come here," he said cooly.
Sorra maneuvered to Vegeta's front. His expression betrayed nothing. His hand was steady as it reached for hers, and careful not to grab her prosthetic. He placed her open palm on his forehead. Sorra did not have words for what she saw.
When she pulled away, she was shaking. Sweat chilled her neck and forehead. She looked up to meet his evaluating gaze. She couldn't speak for a moment, but knew how important it was that she did. He was never this vulnerable with her. Even now, he was entirely in control of himself.
"How do you feel?" she ventured.
"Fine." His expression remained unchanged.
Sorra sat back on her heels. She allowed her head to loll backwards, and studied the ceiling absentmindedly. When she closed her eyes, she could vividly recall what she had just seen.
All of the memories that he shared with her were violent. Frankly, she had expected more gore. So much of it was just... Vegeta's ki. Gigantic blasts, and his knowledge of what was in front of them. His apathy.
Old memories like these often felt... altered. Touched. They all have some spots that are clearer than others, where they have most often been revisited, like fingerprints on foggy glass. They leave traces of how they are remembered, too. Sorra's flashbacks left certain memories drenched in anxiety and grief-- at least, according to Vegeta. She searched his memories for the same.
She found regret, of course. She could feel a dull ache in her chest. Guilt, probably. The self-loathing was familiar to Sorra, and that was everywhere.
He'd remembered some of these many, many times. His recollections spread out before her like tree rings, and Sorra could feel them change throughout the years. He had been proud of these, not so long ago. More recently, though...
"How often do you think of this, Vegeta?"
"Every day."
"And does anything help?" Sorra pressed, hopeful.
"No," said her teacher, his tone passive and withdrawn.
Sorra released a soft sigh. The ceiling was white, with a sharp, pointed texture that Sorra didn't know the name of. It looked like someone had pressed into it with a trowel while it was wet, leaving peaks in the plaster that shone golden in the setting sunlight.
Easy, Sorra. Stay present. Focus. What does he need?
"It's horrible," she assured him.
"Barbaric," he echoed flatly.
The silence between them was vast.
Sorra shifted uneasily, eyes still tracing the shadows in the ceiling. "Whatever comfort I try to give you now, you'll reject it."
"Deservedly so."
"Why?"
"What the hell do you mean, why?!" Vegeta's tone broke free from its restraint. He lurched forward involuntarily. "You saw!"
"Yeah, I did," Sorra agreed, her temper warming. She leveled her gaze to meet his as he continued.
"My actions could never be seen as anything but thoughtless and cowardly! I spent decades under the rule of someone who slayed my entire people, dealing the same fate to hundreds of other planets at his beck and call like some servile dog! I bode my time to fight Frieza-- and for what?! In the end, I wasn't even the one to kill him! After all that, the one justification that I might have had--"
"Nothing can justify what you did." There was no venom in Sorra's interruption, but its inarguable truth was striking.
"...yes. Nothing. Even then, I..." Vegeta trailed off, words escaping him. None felt adequate. Regret permeated the man, soaking up through him. He wore it like defeat, but Sorra knew better.
"You've grown since then," she urged, her voice soft.
"It makes no difference."
"The man who did those things died on Namek. Didn't he?"
Vegeta said nothing.
"And you went to New Namek, recently, too--" Sorra attempted to elaborate.
"That is irrelevant," Vegeta spat.
"It is relevant! Dad told me what you asked him there." Her encouragement bounced off. Vegeta tensed.
"And any reparations that I may make won't--"
"Shut up and listen, Vegeta!" She shifted forward on her haunches, urgent. His posture was guarded, his arm blocking his chest as it rested on his leg. "You have saved this planet from complete annihilation twice since then. You've given everything you have to protect Earth basically since you arrived, even when you were being a total dick about it, and you've done nothing but grow stronger and more compassionate the entire time I've known you!"
Vegeta drew back, and his ki braced itself. Impossibly, he read her reassurances as an attack. His next defense was an old one. "Even so, nothing can undo what I had once spent my entire life doing! We both know what's coming for me when I die!"
"You saved my life, asshole!" Sorra spat.
Vegeta had died twice already. The eternal fate revealed to him the second time around was far from surprising, but it had definitely changed him. His altered perspective had to do with Bulma, she was sure-- some misguided sense of cosmic failure as a husband or a father or something-- but Sorra didn't take the bait. She wouldn't convince him of anything from that angle.
He was silent again, stunned by her reply. He couldn't walk that one back so easily, not to her face. She continued.
"The entire time I've known you, you've been improving. When we met, you already cared about Bulma and Trunks, right? I definitely think you did. And you agreed to train me, the spawn of the dreaded Kakarrot--"
"You harassed me for months to!"
"And you didn't even kill me for it! You took care of me when I lost my arm, you warned me not to trust Duria, you retaliated when she stabbed me--"
"Oh, don't brag on me for that! I killed your mother behind your back!" he protested.
"She wasn't my mom anymore, and you know it! Stop arguing with me, you fucking ethical masochist! You thought that I could handle what I was going through, and when you found out that I couldn't, you saved my life! You even stayed with me that night so I wouldn't try it again! You made me open up to you even though it was clearly uncomfortable for you to do so! Am I wrong?!"
"You... no. No, you're not," he muttered. Sorra waited for a retort, an argument, an insult, but none came. Vegeta was once again at a loss for words. It was a rare feat, but her victory rang hollow under such circumstances.
When Sorra spoke again, her voice was lower, but her intensity remained. "That's who I see when I look at you, Vegeta. Someone who reflects, and grows. I see someone who loves his family, and who's willing to self-sacrifice to make sure that they're safe. I see someone who fucking cares. That man that you remember, the Prince of All Saiyans? With the tail, and the dumbass shoulderpads? I don't know him. You're punishing someone else now."
Vegeta had looked down at some point. He studied his gloves placidly, fretting the fabric between his fingertips. She broke his focus, grabbing his hands in her own.
"You're right that nothing can undo what you did. It was still evil, Vegeta. You're right about that. But you can change what you will do, and in that department, you're head and shoulders above anybody else."
He released a short puff of a laugh. "I suppose, when you start out where I did..."
Sorra tentatively moved a hand up to his cheek, cupping it softly. He allowed her. "You're a good man, Vegeta. You don't have to believe that yet. You just have to trust me."
They both knew those words. He had said them to her years ago, when she was convinced that the world was cruel and unforgiving, and that she didn't belong in it.
With that, the weight of Sorra's compassion finally became too much for him. The remaining veneer of Vegeta's composure cracked under the pressure, releasing a quiet sob as it went. His brows knit tight together and he looked away, obscuring his eyes, but the tears that came from them were obvious. Sorra touched her free hand to his shoulder, allowing him a chance to pull away, but he did not. She pulled him to her chest, embracing his weakness, guarding him as he crumpled in her arms. She rested her hand between his shoulderblades.
Finally.
She prayed that she had given him even a sliver of the relief that she had felt when their roles were reversed. She was honored to even be given the chance to try.

My brain is. Absolutely buzzing with fic ideas right now and last night I started on a new one because I felt like i had to at least get the premise down before I lost it, but now I'm nearly 6k words in and oh no I don't have time to get another longfic wip going.... I'm 140k words deep into two other longfics right now 😭 I want to get into it, but I have too many stories fighting for attention in my head and this won't end well if I hop between them all bc I want to finish something for once. Ahhhh!!! Darn you limited time.
#It's about to get so much more limited because I'm starting 6 day a week FFXIV prog on Monday#technically I started last night (so I was up until 11:30pm writing the first 2k words of this...) but we have today off bc I have a concer#and like. getting off work at 3:30 if i then have 3 hours of prog. an hour to make dinner. 30-40 minutes to walk/run/exercise#that's not enough time to get out many words of fic. not if i want to do other enjoyable things with my life#so my productivity is going to tank.#so far my daily average wordcount for may has been over 3k which is insane. but i haven't had raid in ffxiv this so far this month#so that means a lot more time to write. as in 3 more hours per night to write. not that i usually write for 3hrs#but still. you get the gist of it. it's also 3 hours i'm not sitting at my computer so it's easier on the body to sit at the comp and write#anyway for anyone who is reading these tags for a mysterious reason. 1) hi. 2) this is. you probably guessed it. a dmc fic#this one is based on the vergil time travel idea that spaceacerat proposed. there are so many ways it could go but-#-this is one that would take place right before sparda leaves so sparda is still there and vergil has to convince him not to go#the thing there is i'm not really sure how it would end...in my other time travel fic i DO have an explanation for how sparda died#but i developed it specifically for that fic and it would not work for a happy ending in this fic. which i'd like to have#that fic also takes place after sparda's gone so. y'know.#but yeah i...as i'm writing this i now have somewhat of an idea for an ending but it's. bittersweet? maybe? hmmm#but yeah! never underestimate my love for time travel fics it's my favorite trope of all time. has been since i met trunks dbz as a kid.#erurandomness#erubabbles

“Wow. The narrative really made you into a whiny little bitch. It’s okay, meet me here at 3am, we’ll fix it.” *scribbles either my ao3 or that of a writer I trust with their kind of character *
#I think of it as a form of DBZ-ing. where the main plot gets so insane. like close to jumping sharks territory#that in order to execute that establish characters begin acting a little ooc#and then they have to stick to the bit for the sake of canon#and now we’re stuck with characters who had great potential just being characters were groan when they come on screen#feeling their plot being a waste of time that could have been dedicated to better play out the plot they#sacrificed their characterization for#thank god for ao3

I love you Goku Gohan and Piccolo. "Too alien to be human, too human to be alien" trio of my heart
#dbz#don't mind me just thinking about how goku's saiyan instincts and love of fighting will always set him apart from his human friends#but he was raised as a human so his heart will always be human and disconnected from his saiyan heritage#meanwhile gohan wants to reject his saiyan heritage so badly. they traumatized him. they killed his friends and so many others#but when it comes down to it he'll fight every time. he'll always be so much stronger than the humans around him even when he lives#just like they do#and piccolo. he's not even human-passing like the others. he NEVER had a place on earth. but he lived and grew there regardless#long enough that when he finally meets his own people they're aliens to him as much as they are kin#i think it says a lot that he didn't want to stay with them - that he chose to live on earth over namek#don't mind me i just have dbz feelings today#wait i have more thoughts#trunks and goten are sort of in the club but not entirely. their saiyan sides are more just a cool thing they have that makes them strong#they don't have the negative view of sayans that gohan has. they've been raised much more human than even goku was#because they're strong they still get to be part of the 'group' but they're not part of the trauma bond and probably feel a bit left out#i think by the time vegeta grows old and dies he'll be in the club too#i keep picturing him meeting his people in otherworld and realizing how much he understands them but doesn't know them#how he has their instincts and inclinations but their culture was lost before he could really learn it#how much being on earth has changed him. but wondering if he would have a place with the group even in death

I literally grew up watching DBZ on Toonami reruns as a kid.. and it’s got me thinking…..
The Destined One (if you fight you know who to get the True Ending) receives Sun Wukong’s memories, but is clearly still his Own Self.. he gets to keep his individuality but now he has the knowledge and wisdom of Daddy OG Wukong’s previous experiences…
But what if….. it worked like a Namekian absorption fusion? Like with Piccolo and Nail?
like The Destined One literally Has OG Wukong chattering away in his head like a little subconscious Jiminy cricket.. but with more quips Less guidance and WAY more Shit talking.
((Oh God, this thing is so breaking funny?! Like WHAAAAAA?Okay, okay, let me spice it up a little. Beware, slighty suggestive at some point))
After the Memories of Sun Wukong were bestowed on him, he became the new Sage (to the dismay of the Celestial Court). Everything seemed pretty fine with Yuán Fèn. He was strong; everybody accepted him as the new Monkey King, and his wish was to live happily ever after with you.
At first, it was just a small thing—a small voice that he heard from time to time. Just like when you think that someone is calling you and then nothing! He blamed the successful events; he not even needed to let you worry about!
While he was stirring his own tea, sitting under the tree at your side, he heard it again.
"Young one!"
He stiffened his neck, looking around, but he came back to his tea. No one was calling him; it was the fifth time that day. How strange...
Then, things started to get REALLY strange. He started to hear full sentences, or after he had responded to them, he even received another remark!
"I can't believe you defeated my stone self with that stance."
"I can't believe that I'm turning into some kind of demented monkey with the old save powers."
"I HEARD THAT!!"
He suddenly loosed his own balance and started you and other young monkeys.
He thought he could handle it; he could handle a god as Erlang; he could handle this too!
He couldn't be more wrong.
"You look awfully tried. Are you sure you're sleeping well?"
He just nodded, just hoping that the Great Sage could spare him some sleep in the afternoon from his continuous blabbering.
At the end, he finally confessed everything to you. It was noble to know that he didn't want to obligate you to handle this thing with him, but instead you simply accepted it.
After all, you were soon to be King and Queen; you wanted to share his burden!
"Sooo...what does he say? About me, I mean..."
Yuán Fèn stayed silent, expecting something from the voice in his head.
"Umm...nice hips! She's going to bear a lot of kids, young one!"
"He said you're okay."
Things started to get strange when Yuán Fèn started to actually see him.
He almost had a heart attack the day that he saw him, and oh my, if he wished to get rid of him.
You believed that it wasn't such a big deal; Wukong must have been a rational creature to leave your privacy alone! ....Wrong.
The sound of your sigh and panting emitted in your small abode. The only source of light is a small candel, near the end of it.
His hands held your hips, while your lips kept on caressing his cheeks, leaving kisses and small bites. He tried to restrain a laugh, but the rumble in his chest took it away.
"Did you like it?"
He mewled, his tail moving restless around.
"I don't know him, but do I enjoy the view!"
Yuán Fèn suddenly screamed, making you fall from his hips, causing you to hit your head in the side of the bed, exposing in that motion your chest to the ceiling and to an invisible monkey that only the young one could see.
"W-WHAT THE -"
"DO YOU MIND?!"
"Uh, uh, uh, you should mind that boner in your thoughts! I think she would love to take care of that!"
And, while your lover tried to protect you from a pair of eyes that wasn't even there, you started to feel your desire and passion slowly fade away.
Things didn't get better, and now frustration started to get attached to you, like some kind of parasite. You were fed up, he was fed up, and Wukong... he couldn't find the situation more amusing.
"Am I in front of him?"
"Yes?"
"What does he do?"
"He's just...staring, just staring."
You clear your throat, while, only for Yuán Fèn, the old sage gave another bite to the peach, looking at the small human that was acting all big in front of him. You took enough control, and finally.
"Sun Wukong... I need to fuck, like for real. Leave us alone for... I don't know, 48 hours."
In his head, the poor monkey felt the great sage equal to Heaven laugh like never before.

SPOILERS FOR SONIC 3
(DO NOT read if you haven't seen it yet, You have been WARNED)
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
. Still here? You've been warned

Y'all KNOW I had to talk about this but since Sonic 3s post credit scene basically broke the internet and kinda teased the 4th movie, I thought I'd give y'all my thoughts on what I think the Plot for Sonic 4 is gonna be. Basically my theory is that they could be adapting Sonic CD and possibly be implementing Time travel (I mean Where else could all these Metal Sonic's have came from? ) I suggest that Metal Sonic is gonna be the Villain and probably went back in time to try and eliminate Sonic because he's such a huge problem in the future, however he didn't expect Amy to have followed him and is possibly here to warn Sonic, similar to way Trunks did in DBZ with the androids. (I'm telling ya the anime references Never stop)

This could be our chance to probably see the "Weider" characters and concepts like the Freedom fighters, Silver, Blaze and possibly Team Dark, since we know Shadow is still alive. This could possibly lead to an Apocalyptic future Prevention Storyline and maybe even give us a True Sonic like adventure that is DIRECTLY word for word taken from the games, making this world feel much more like the games

I have a feeling this movie will take HEAVY inspiration from Sonic CD, Sonic A1, Sonic Heroes my FAVORITE Game, and possibly Sonic 06, if they Decide to add Silver and whatnot. Yeah idk about you, but I'm looking Forward to Sonic in 3 / 2yrs ^w^

Parenting styles in Dragon Ball Z (and Super)
You know, to me, the interesting thing about this scene (and the one where they could to the aforementioned park) isn't the fact that Vegeta keeps his promise.

It's the fact that he uses positive reinforcement to motivate Trunks.
Do you think Vegeta was ever rewarded for landing a good hit? Definitely not. It was expected of him.
As an expert in children's development, I find it fascinating to look at this example of Vegeta parenting Trunks and what it says about his parenting style. I've seen headcanons that go from calling 'Dadgeta' authoritarian to neglectful, but I disagree.
In the following, I will briefly describe the four styles of parenting with focus on the authoritarian and the authoritative styles. I'll also compare them to how DBZ parents appear to raise their children, but mainly focus on Vegeta.
Authoritarian:
This is the old school parenting method where restrictions and punishments go hand in hand. The parents expect the children to obey rules without a clear explanation as to why and corporal punishment is used when the children overstep.
Unsurprisingly, it seems like a lot of people believe this is how Vegeta raises his children (If he is even involved; I'll address this later on.) It was likely how he was raised.
However, the only parent we actually see using this style is Chichi. She's not entirely unreasonable, but we do see her expect things from Gohan without explanations and she has a lot of restrictions set up. This might have something to do with Goku's parenting style, but more on that later.
Piccolo also uses authoritarianism with Gohan, but he isn't trying to parent him, just train him.
What's really interesting is that children raised in a household practicing authoritarianism tend to hold a lot of anger inside. They also have low self-efficacy and high self blame. Remind you of someone?
Indulgent
Here we see nurturing, accepting parents who don't have behavioral expectations of their children. They are responsive to the children's needs and wishes, but do not expect them to be the same toward other people. The parents want to be the child's friend rather than a demanding parent.
Children of indulgent parents tend to grow up without a sense of others' boundaries and generally have less discipline than their peers. They lack impulse control and are often irresponsible.
In DBZ we do see signs of this parenting style, but only limited. It's not commonly used in Asia and therefore, Toriyama didn't add it. In GT it's obvious that both Trunks and Bulla seem have been parenting this way by Bulma. It's also why many doubt that Vegeta has been much involved.
It's also easy to argue that Goku parents this way, although it's up for discussion.
Neglectful
Although many think that the indulgent parenting style have created a generation of undisciplined young people, the neglectful parenting style has actually had a greater effect.
The parents are either more interested in themselves and their own goals than their children's. (Although sometimes it's because the parents struggle with stress or depression) Children of these parents are usually lonely and melancholic, often have very low self esteem and are needy after affection and approval. This leads them to be easily manipulated and they are at a higher risk to end up in abusive relationships.
I think many of the Vegeta antis and those claiming Goku is a bad parent would place the two Saiyans here.
However, Goku is clearly involved in Gohan's upbringing, albeit choosing a more casual approach than Chichi, and returns after being dead for seven years, ready to be involved with Goten (and Gohan if he wants it). The reason that Goku mainly focuses on training isn't just because it's his own interest. It's what he knows for sure how to do.
Most importantly: it was how Goku was raised himself. First by Grandpa Gohan and later from his other father figure, Master Roshi. It isn't just in his blood; it's in his upbringing.
And then there's Vegeta’s parenting style which was my main focus for this post. It got a little out of control, but we have finally arrived at the last parenting style:
Authoritative
This is the most modern parenting style, even though it isn't really new. It's been used for years in well functioning familes. This type of parent is both demanding and nurturing, being present and engaged in their children's lives. They explain things to their children, teach them how to regulate their feelings and therefore expect a mature behavior from them.
Children of authoritative parents tend to be more successful in their adult lives, capable of discipline and well-liked. Because they aren't constantly being restricted, they naturally develope autonomy within set boundaries and learn to respect others, regardless of authority.
So, what does this have to do with Vegeta and Trunks?
As I mentioned in the beginning, in the scene in the Gravity Chamber, Vegeta uses positive reinforcement to motive Trunks. Positive reinforcement has proven to be a healthy way to motivate children (and animals) and is a part of the authoritative style. By using it, Vegeta provides Trunks with rules that foster motivation and discipline in the child. The fact that Vegeta knows about the amusement and can use it as an incentive also shows that he is involved enough to know what may get Trunks to do his best.
But the most important thing we see is that Vegeta upholds his promise, despite hating every second of it. It shows that he respects Trunks' efforts and achievement. By honoring his word, he also teaches Trunks to do the same.
Of course, this is a small scene and we don't know how Vegeta behaves otherwise in regards to Trunks. But it's safe to say that Vegeta does take his son's wishes into account and uses it to encourage him to move beyond his limits.
I admit that I'm not a fan of GT and don't consider it canon, especially because of Toriyama's lack of involvement. So, while I dislike many aspects of DBS, I do think it's the best representation of the characters.
In Super, both Goten and Trunks are well adjusted boys who both have discipline and test the boundaries of their autonomy. They act like boys their age, albeit with incredibly strength, and it goes to show that their parents have raised them well.
Of course, it's also important to remember that both DBZ and DBS (and even GT) are a product of their time and the parenting styles reflect that. DBZ is from the 80's where the authoritarian (Chichi) and indulgent (Goku) styles were the most common. GT is from the 90's where the media started to focus on indulgent and neglectful parents - even though it wasn't a new thing - and it's shown that Trunks, Bulla and Goten have grown up as spoiled and undisciplined. DBS shows that the parents in the show have become authoritative and their children's behavior reflects that.
It's clear that the parents are doing their best and that the fathers have become more involved nowadays than before. This is the case in modern parenting as well.
Anyway, this is the end of my long rant. I think, as both an expert in children's development and as a parent myself, it's interesting to look into the relationships between the characters, especially the father-son interactions which are explored the most. There's no doubt that Toriyama knew the importance of being a father and wanted to portray it, mainly in Goku and Gohan's relationship.
I don't think Toriyama saw Goku nor Vegeta as bad fathers, but he knew that everyone has different strengths, even in parenthood.

I was talking about DBZ with my brother the other day and I brought up how odd it is for Trunks to be born with blue eyes.
Because the blue eye gene is recessive, meaning it's not visible if more dominant genes are present (example: black/brown eyes are dominant, so they'd cover up the blue eyes). In order for someone to have visibly blue eyes, both parents would have to pass down the blue eyes gene.
In order for Trunks to have been born with blue eyes, both Bulma and Vegeta would have to have blue eye genes for him to inherit.
This is interesting because I don't remember ever seeing a saiyan with naturally blue eyes. They may turn blue after going super saiyan, but they change back after exiting that form. In fact, I think the only eye color aside from black we've seen on a saiyan is that yellowish hazel Broly sometimes has (in the new Broly movie, anyway). To my knowledge, blue is just not an eye color that's native to saiyan biology.
So why does Trunks have blue eyes if Vegeta shouldn't have any blue eye genes for him to pass onto his offspring? Could it be that all saiyan eye colors are recessive to human eye colors, regardless of pigmentation?
Or maybe, just maybe, Vegeta himself isn't a pure bred saiyan?
#dragonball z#headcanon#dbz#vegeta#trunks#bulma#This applies to Bulla having blue eyes too#Also this isn't like a hard stance I'm taking in the fandom or anything#I'm just having fun pondering how a brief lesson on basic genetics from highschool would apply to the DBZ universe

So other than 18 or is going to be in Krillin's harem?
I think I got a nice harem planned out for him Lol. Would love to hear thoughts on it. Of course at the top of said list is 18 (Lapis Lazuli)

AKA Best Girl of DBZ and the one who is really the mastermind behind this happening.

I thought about it and why not go with Age-Gap, Marron has her school friends regularly visit and hang out. Anna Nishikinomiya (Shimoneta) and Marron are classmates regularly study together at Marron's house.
Oh so sexually suppressed Anna has been exposed to the pluky Z-Fighter far too much and seeing Krillin shirtless… A lot, and when he's not shirtless he's small and cute! Logically he can't be cute, sexy, buff and mature and yet he is.
And yes, she gives Krillin the cookies… And Krillin recognizes the taste, but can't quite pin it down Until later that night with 18
Krillin:!!!
18: What's wrong, you never stop eating till I cum?
Krillin:… Anna knows my favorite flavor!
18: What?

Next is Nobara, who looks a lot like 18 and has a similar if not more aggressive and standoffish personality. Krillin can't help but approve of her being friends with his daughter. While Nobara admires 18 and the later see's a lot of herself in the younger girl.
I see Krillin appealing to Nobara the same way he did to 18, his kinder nature, but also obvious attraction to her. Though in Nobara's case he makes it clear with the "If I were single and thought I had a chance" joke… But well Nobara can't help but stare at the muscles that no regular human could possible have and if a woman she so admires likes him, well there has to be a reason right.

And last would be Mai and Maki Zenin, the idea is simply Krillin gets along with the later easily enough, she's a friend and senpai of Nobara and his daughter. And she does spare with him on occasion, though he goes ridiculously easy on her. But one day he hears about what happening to her from her daughter Marron, about how her family is trying to kill her. He rushes to her aid only to find her having murdered her abusive family and her sister Mai dead. Krillin deciding that the Zenin are about as human as the Sayains (Raditz & Nappa) were (Look human but are evil) proceeds to go off seemingly abandoning them, when in reality he gathers the dragon balls (Pleading with Bulma for the radar) and revives her

Haven't thought too deeply about Erasa yet, but hey, she Videl's friend, she have to had many chances to talk to Krillin at this point.

I need Bakugou stans to realise that it's not that I hate him as a person. It's that I hate him as a character.
A lot of my favourite characters are unrepentant assholes, or assholes who are set to or have already been redeemed. Vegeta from DBZ, Ouma Kokichi from DGR: V3, Dio from JoJo, Laxus from Fairy Tail, Greed from FMA: B, Bill from Gravity Falls, and the list that goes on.
If a character is a terrible person, that's fine by me. But if the author tries and fails to redeem them, yet still acts as though they are suddenly this amazing person, that's when I have an issue with it.
Bakugou was originally written to be a minor antagonist, and that would have been fine, if Horikoshi didn't suddenly go "I drew him crying so imma fix him".
Redemption is such a complex yet simple thing to do. So when you try to do it and fail spectacularly, um, yeah, I do not enjoy that character or your writing.
That is my main issue with Bakugou. I do not think he deserved any redemption, not because he's a bad person, but because there is nothing to convince me that he could change.
He gets one scene where he goes, "boohoo I lost and everyone is stronger than me" then cries, and that's supposed to be enough for him to become a better person? That is nowhere near enough.
There was no moment that made me believe he genuinely regretted and took accountability for the abuse he put Izuku through in middle school.
"He changed!" That's not my issue. I don't care that he's changed. I care that I don't believe in it. If there was a plausible reason as to why he changed, then I would be fine with it. Maybe I'd even enjoy him!
The fact that he's changed doesn't mean shit if it's not believable.
"That was in middle school!" Okay. This one pisses me off the most. That was a year pre-canon? Oh, wow, I guess that's completely fine! It's not as if characters are the way they are based on their past. Oh, Itachi killed the Uchiha clan before canon! Okay, maybe comparing a massacre to bullying is a bit unfair. Still, just because it happened a year ago, it doesn't mean it never happened. It doesn't mean that he's changed considerably.
"Izuku doesn't have any lasting damage and forgave him!" And? Just because your friend forgives their bully, it doesn't mean you have to forgive them. And, again, I do not believe Bakugou's apology was good in anyway. He was trash-talking Izuku, blaming All Might for Izuku's behaviour, and didn't accept any culpability for what he did to him. He didn't tell anyone else what he did to Izuku. Also, if Izuku really didn't have any lasting damage from the bullying, then why did Bakugou's apology make him calm down? If he didn't care about the bullying, then why is he so relieved by the apology? BECAUSE HE WAS AFFECTED.
"Bakugou was being abused!" ... NO HE WASN'T!! Mitsuki is not abusive. Yes, she hit him round the back of his head. After he threatened her. Anyone with Asian parents can tell you that her hit does not hurt. Not only is it somewhat normal in Asian families, but it also doesn't hurt. We have no evidence that she is abusive. Horikoshi knows how to set up abusive families, as seen with the Todorokis. This not that. Either way, even if she was, being abused doesn't mean it's okay to abuse others. You can hurt without hurting others.
"It's the school and teacher's fault!" No, it's not. Part of the fault lies with them enabling him, but Bakugou is already fifteen when the series starts. His mother clearly doesn't agree with his attitude. The school is only partially to blame. Bakugou should have learned by himself what is right and what is not. In fact, he clearly does know considering he doesn't want any of that stuff on his records in case U.A. rejects him.
Again. I don't care if he's a terrible person. I care that he's a terrible character.
So the next time someone says that I'm stuck in Season One, take a moment and think about what you're saying. Bad people in fiction are entertaining. Bad characters are not.
#mha critical#bnha critical#anti bakugou katsuki#i hate bakugou so much you don't understand unless you do#he's a terrible character and a terrible person
