oh god. okay so i just finished ifylita and i have so many thoughts!! i literaly just binge watched half of the series today (home office be like) so everything is mushy and i forgot like half of the things i wanted to write about but who cares!

so. it was so GOOD! like... so so so good. im speechless. all the characters had their depth and purpose and i want to wrap them all in a soft blanket and never let go (not you robert you can rot in hell). ming?? you mean the bestest man ever? his character was just so perfect and the actor's performance was on another level. just. perfect. the friendship between ueangphueng and fongkaew was so much needed. like they could make enemies out of them and make fongkaew the evil bitch but they didn't! they made two really strong characters out of them and im here for it (also very pretty character. like i want their wardrobe. please and thank you). they also could do the same with busabong and im glad they just let her go to find her own way after the engagement fiasco. robert actually rotting in jail was unexpected. the whole scene was priceless. the drama? the spice? hell yeah. and the last episode? fuck it all. the feels!! i was not ready. the scene with all of their memories, accompanied by the sound of them fucking in the background, followed by a cut to yai crying was a cinematic masterpiece. let them enjoy their postcoital bliss for fuck sake!! the jump to the present? painful. jom and jeed's annoying siblings energy? priceless. i need more of them. (and jeed having crush on her best friend, suffering because she doesn't want to be a homewrecker). and the end. to be fair, i would have more questions before i would be exchanging saliva with a dude that looks like another dude i fell love with in the past who i know is already dead...like...at least ONE question. but i mean...whatever floats your boat jom. and then the other end. jom's outfit was the same as in the scene in the house righ? or it was just really similar? or was it a coincidence? or do he really got yeeted into another era the DAY he met yai's present self?? so many questions i could probably get an answers to if i got my hands on the novel but yeah.

an analysis of the ending

I say this with utmost love, but episode 16 was a shitshow.

i walked into this show accepting it at face value – a show that would take itself lightly, with a compelling subplot marinated in humor, and a dose of sweet romance.

this show tried to include very mature, sobering themes with slapstick humor, which is definitely possible if balanced properly, but i feel this show was not able to achieve this the way do bong soon or others could.

to get some of the discrepancies out of the way:

they never told us that the women's senses were connected, geum joo should not have been able to feel namsoon's thirst – that's something they abruptly added to fuel the tension of the situation.

there is absolutely no reason nam soon would react like that to the drug, when you compare it to how every other user was affected by it.

the strength exerted by gil-joongan did not feel like enough to knock her out like that

and with how easy it would've been to leave the situation, it's very obvious that nam soon taking the drug was an ill-planned way to raise the stakes and increase suspense

the homeless couple truly had nothing of value to add to the show or it's message

none of the show's themes or messages were delivered properly towards the end, and it went against everything it preached.

the immediate tone change after ryu si-o's death did not do any justice to the effort put into his characterization

i do not understand how nam soon became a cop, all technicalities considered

why was she throwing humans out a window from the second floor, even if they're criminals??

they REALLY cheapened the whole marriage conversation by bringing money, property, and heirs into it. that was NOT romantic or wholesome. hee-sik deserves better parents, tf.

side note: i'm pretty disappointed with namsoon's character arc, but lee yoo mi worked within the purview of the script to give us honestly wonderful acting, especially in episode 15.

now, to get into the ending, i'll start with this:

what we got, felt like an empty victory. hollow and out of place.

i've always been an advocate for all parts of a show coming together to create an experience – there's usually no single keystone.

but as soon as si-o died, the rest of the episode felt like a blur, with all loose ends being succinctly wrapped up and prepared for season three. byeon woo seok, and his characterization really carried the show as a unit, and added to its cohesiveness. i did not find myself rooting for geum joo and nam soon's successes afterwards

because they had failed the ONE thing most of us had been hoping for them to do:

to save people who were victims of oppression from those with the power of money, and empower them, including to save si-o from his oppressors, and help him take down pavel.

there is no satisfaction in geum joo doing it by herself, because she has no emotional investment in destroying pavel.

losing hwaja and si-o, watching namsoon & heesik become one dimensional all of a sudden, and seeing tertiary unrelated characters having their loose ends tied, is extremely unsatisfactory – for a show that had an incredible cast and so much potential.

at the same time: i loved the portreyal of gil joongan's mission to help the elderly and her enthusiasm for her future, and the addition of binbin + looking into their past from an additional angle also really elevated the emotional context of si-o's character arc.

i loved each character, truly, and to not see the plot and writers give them the detail and care they deserve, is wholly disappointing.

the show took me on a whole journey, emotionally,,,but to know exactly what would make it better, and be aware of its discrepancies makes me grieve the potential it had to truly leave an impact on its viewers, with a solid takeaway message.

"It's too dangerous in the world. You need me, you should know that!" Pavel growls, walking at a brisk pace with your hand in his. "Especially with that... "man" hunting you."

"Pav, please, I never knew him in my life-" You plead, wishing the man in front of you would provide some mercy on your wrist.

"And yet he wants you." Pavel spits. "He's dead once I see him again...."

"You're going to get yourself hurt again...." You try to reason, but Pavel shuts you up with a quick squeeze.

"I could care less." Pavel admits, eyes going dark as pulls you behind a building in private. "I'm not letting someone like him touch you."

"Then... maybe it's best we part ways?" You ask. Pavel pauses at your words. You see his eyes go wide before glaring. You then feels your back shoved against the decaying bricks. It's not enough to hurt you too much.

You feel eyes in the distance stare when you hit the wall.

"Do you even know why I do this?" Pavel leans into you to whisper into your ear. "I protect you because you've managed to make me fall for you with your charms, girl. Do you really think I'm going to just let you ditch?"

"Pav, relax... this isn't you-" You ask, realizing the festival is getting to him. "It was just a suggestion."

With a huff, Pavel calms down a little but still seems on edge. Then... a mischievous thought comes across his mind.

"I'll stop because I care for you... if you give me a kiss." Pavel grins. "Just a little taste in exchange for my continued protection... a deal?"

You hesitate for a moment... making Pavel scoff slightly. You feel like you're being watched. This... isn't safe.

"Come on...kiss me! Kiss me like your life depends on it!"

Pavel snaps in an impatient tone, throwing you out of your thoughts. Did he sense something too?

Was he... trying to rush this for a reason or trying to prove a point?

You do care for Pavel. He's helped you through the festival. Plus, maybe it's the festival getting to you too... but you suddenly feel passionate despite your fear.

"Fine, let's make it quick, okay?"

The kiss itself starts a bit rough but settles into something calmer. You can tell Pavel is taking his time, remembering your taste. Although... you feel fear bubble in you again.

You sense a presence...

This is wrong... something's wrong-

"Wait, Pav-"

Blood splashes against your clothes. You pause, your lips are cold now. In a blinding speed, Pavel is on the ground. A sword is slashed through his still healing chest... you freeze.

A yellow hooded figure glares down at the corpse in a grimace. You can tell the "man"... a god... looks disgusted at what he's seen. The Kaiser makes his appearance in a bloodbath that makes you ill.

"He should've been dead long ago." Kaiser hisses. "Way before he had a chance to defile you... but you saved him. I was a fool to trust your judgment."

"You're the Kaiser Pav's been talking about...." You whimper. Said Kaiser grimaced again at the nickname.

"Don't say the name of that foul man again." Kaiser warns. "He was a parasite latching to you... he is unworthy of a being like you."

"What are you even talking about... don't come closer-" You plead, tears in your eyes as you shuffle away from the corpse of your companion/partner. Kaiser frowns in response.

"We've never gotten acquainted my poor daughter. I am your father... a godly being just like you. It's a shame we were denied the ability to meet..." The Kaiser sighs, stepping closer. "But we can fix this. We're meeting now, after all. Fate brought you here... I can sense it."

"I've never met my father... but you aren't him!" You hiss.

"That rebellious soldier has tainted your mind... you poor soul..." Kaiser laments, having two soldiers come to block your means of escape. "I can fix that too... you will be fixed."

The Kaiser reaches out to you with the intention of... you don't dare find out. You slap his hand away, gaze drifting back to Pavel. You could end up like him.

Kaiser follows your gaze back to Pavel's corpse. He scoffs before turning back to you. He wishes you stopped looking so mournful over a man such as... that.

"They may be long gone now... but I'm happy they let us meet." Kaiser sighs before gesturing to the soldiers behind you. "Don't push me away, dear... I only want to be closer to you!"

You try to fight when the soldiers nudge you closer to the Kaiser. When you're close enough the Kaiser scoops you into his embrace. It feels... eerily warm.

You feel... comforted.

"See? Doesn't this feel right? You're right where you belong... with your father." The Kaiser praises, shoving you closer to his chest. "That soldier was only good for bringing you to me... It was fine until he tried to dirty you even more."

The Kaiser releases a frustrated sigh before smiling down at you.

"But that's all in the past now..."

You continue to stare at the blood as the Kaiser sways softly with you in his arms.

"You're here with your father now... we have much to catch up on, don't we?"

4. Desert Rains

Hikaru Sulu smiled as he walked to the barn in the rain. It had started the night before and had made itself known even into his dreams. It didn’t often rain like this in the summer without being a passing thunderstorm. The garden and his rose bush at the front gate would be very happy.

He was happy. The rain was refreshing. Sulu tipped his hat back and lifted his face. Cool raindrops splattered against him.

“What are you doing?”

Chekov hurried past him making his own way into the barn.

“Aww Pavel it feels lovely!” Sulu called after him. But Chekov had ducked through the barn door and didn’t hear him.

Sulu finally entered the barn and wiped a sleeve across his wet face.

“You’ll catch a cold doing things like that,” McCoy said to him from Honey’s stall.

“Not in the summer,” Sulu laughed back. He grinned at McCoy, who just frowned and turned back into the stall.

“Think of all the things that will grow and bloom now because of this,” Sulu continued as he crossed the barn floor.

“Aye,” Scotty agreed. “And it’ll be good for a few of the things in the garden that were looking droopy.”

“Exactly!” Sulu said.

“Keeps up like this the creek could flood,” Jim said thoughtfully.

Sulu thought he heard a noise from the doctor. He wouldn’t be surprised if he had; after all McCoy and Scotty did enjoy their evenings by the creek.

“Miss Christine will be mad if we track in mud,” Chekov mused.

“Not at you,” Jim laughed. “Just me. You’d think someone else was the owner of this place!”

“It is hard work keeping up a house Jim,” Spock said.

“It’s hard work keeping up with the cattle too,” Jim replied.

“We all have our easy jobs and hard jobs. I for one wouldn’t want to swap with the gals,” McCoy called to the others.

“Cooking is fine,” said Chekov. “But I don’t want to clean the house!”

Chuckles came from all corners of the barn.

“Well, I’m going to enjoy this rain while it lasts,” Sulu said, leading a pair of the horses out towards the barn pasture. “Floods or mud or illness be darned!”

-How did he get to be head of his hospital?

He pretty much just walked in and declared himself hospital head haha xDD (it's a little more complicated, but the quick tldr haha) Pavel lost his medical license almost as soon as he got it, right out of medical school. It was discovered he was using 'Mad Scientific Methods and Techniques' to treat his patients (which is strictly forbidden in the field of medicine). He would argue his case that he saved and cured every patient he had (using any means necessary… which could be good or bad pffft), but the medical board wouldn't hear it.

But that wouldn't stop him, he would leave to find a hospital were he could practice his medicine and he eventually found one. Hospital 11 was an old and under funded facility to begin with, despite being a pretty huge complex, in a rural and snowy mountain village. The old head of hospital was desperate enough to hire a new doctor, but it was the biggest mistake they ever made, and it was pretty easy for Pavel to take charge. No one contested because the other staff, doctors and nurses that remained were terrified of him (being a mad scientist/doctor). And if anyone did question him, they risked getting dragged down to the lower levels of the hospital, never to be seen again (no one knows what happens to people down there, and the old hospital head actually befell this fate 00;). The towns people don't dare go near the hospital and they try to warn desperate patients going there that the place is run by a mad doctor, but Pavel has a reputation (both good and bad) in the medical world. He WILL cure you, but that's the risk you take (you don't know WHAT he'll do for your treatment, will it be straight forward or will it be experimental 00).

-Favorite part of being a mad doctor?

Exploratory surgery or performing surgery on himself are probably one of his favorite things to do (he likes the challenge xD).

Keeping up and maintaining his nasty reputation in town is also pretty fun too.

-What drew him to the field of medicine?

Both medicine and his love of cats actually came from the same event.

When he was young, he unfortunately lost his favorite street cat to illness. He was devastated by it because he felt like he tried everything to help it get better. Ulyana took this as a learning experience for him though and she taught him how to bring the cat back to life with SCIENCE.

He was happy to have his cat back, but the whole thing left him with a lot of questions, especially about health, illness, death, and medicine in general. His mom encouraged him to learn and research. She gifted him a giant medical book, which he would read and reread many times. The rest is pretty much history (and just a little fun fact, out of all the brothers, he's the best at bringing things back to life).

-What are his goals?

He wants multiple pages of his works in the official medical books is definitely one. But it's hard when all his methods have some kind of mad science tied to it, which disqualifies a lot of his work, which pisses him off haha xD Man has literally brought patients back from the dead and has created things like a 3 headed human from scratch, but the medical boards don't count 'mad science' as an 'official' form of medicine in their world, in fact it's villainy xDD He swears they have a grudge against him as well pffft ("Only because I'm better then you FOOLS you don't wanna put me in the books, no I get it." - Pavel, 1956) Another goal of his is he wants to know everything there is to know about medicine, read every medical book, perform every procedure, discover everything there is to know about the human body, push known medicine to it's limits, toy with the borders between life and death (the usual haha). His own personal goal that isn't medicine is to save every cat off the street in his town/village :3

Alexander II had eight children, six of them male: Grand Duchess Alexandra (died in childhood), Tsarevich Nicholas (Nixa, who died at 22), Grand Duke Alexander (who would reign as Alexander III), Grand Duke Vladimir, Grand Duke Alexei, Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna, Grand Duke Sergei, and Grand Duke Pavel.

Alexander III's role as Tsar included managing his "family" (the Romanovs.) His brothers, Grand Duke Vladimir and Grand Duke Sergei had strong, domineering personalities, and Sacha had to use a strong hand with them, but all, including Alexei and Pavel, remained supportive of him. When he was allowed to come back, he tried to assist his nephew through the last crisis of the Tsarist government.

Sacha's years as emperor were the last years of the balls and the large group outings and pictures. Even though he was not a social man, he knew his role had a social component and that he was the patriarch of his family. Empress Maria Feodorovna was a great help to him in this respect.

Sacha and his brothers remained close and worked together under Sacha's strong hand (and with raised voices and squabbles here and there, which involved Vladimir more frequently than the others.) They seemed to take for granted that their job as Grand Dukes was to work for their brother, the Tsar, who, after all, was Russia. They all had important positions within the government (with the exception of Pavel, who was too young.) This had been the way the dynasty functioned under Nicholas I and Alexander II.

Unfortunately, things changed for the worse under Nicholas II. His brother Georgie, who would have been Nicholas' right hand, became ill early on and had to leave court. Although his brother Mikhail surprised everybody by proving to be an excellent leader of men when he was practically forced to do so by Nicholas II (he was given the command of the Caucasian Native Cavalry Corps, also called the Savage Regiment, during WWI), he preferred to stay away from government matters altogether and live a "playboy" lifestyle. He also married morganatically.

With a few exceptions, the Grand Dukes dedicated themselves to spending their money raising their families and maintaining their ultra-luxurious lifestyles. The Empress was a naturally retiring woman, in poor health and consumed first by the need to give birth to a boy and later by the illness of her beloved boy. Tsar Nicholas did not cultivate the social aspects of the family and did not lead them; the photographs no longer included the large family groups. The Romanovs fell apart internally, and not long after, the rest of their world crashed. (gcl)

— what is your muse “made of”, what is their character like? Courageous, loving, scared, etc. ( link )

Selfishness, to begin with. Usually not out of ill intentions and it had been worse a few years ago. Still, as someone who has not had much as a child, he's always looking to keep what he "owns" and "take" what is for the taking. Something that wasn't that hurtful to others, cuz he wasn't that social or ambitious outside his profession. But he's not exorcising your house or whatever cuz he's a helpful person — he just wants the experience.

Obsessive & over-protective. Just like the above, it's not necessarily in a bad manner. If he sees you as someone who is very dear to him, he'll do what is necessary to keep himself worthy in your eyes. He doesn't want to give you any reason to abandon him. That might or might not be shown in being clingy, jealous & forceful — but also in deep hearted affection, helpfulness and willingness to sacrifice. When it comes to people he loves and trusts, there is nothing he wouldn't do.

He is a helpless romantic. When he loves, he loves deep and passionate. He hasn't been loved in the past, but he begs for it with every thing he does — however, he's not good in differentiating between "someone is mildly annoyed" and "they are hating you without the possibility to ever love you again". He's too used to being left behind.

He's not spontaneous, he doesn't like sudden change, unless he can guess what happens next and calculate his personal outcome, yet he's able to decide his next steps. Pavel is a person to easily be overwhelmed, especially in regards of human interactions, but most of the time he's a "fake it till you make it".

Looking at this now I really wonder what his positive attributes are. I see not many, haha.

Okay that's not the most insane thing ever, actually. The ending felt a tiny bit rushed but that could've just been me.

Also Chekov is literally a child compared to everyone else on board- like of course 22 isn't a child but Kirk is, I wanna say, in his mid thirties at least (based on how long ago he says things took place in his life and how old he was then; like Taurus 4 and different things hes done as a lieutenant ), and no one else in the main cast is supposed to be 22.

That was a decent episode; not one of my favs but definitely not the worst. I probably won't do a rewatch for a while, but that's cus I have odd taste lol.

okay so from crime and punishment I have: Raskolnikov, Razumikhin, Dunya and Sonya (I plan on making Luzhin and Lebezyatnikov too soon)

from the brothers Karamazov I made: Alyosha, Ivan, Dmitri, Pavel, Fyodor, Grushenka and Rakitin (Katya, madam Khokhlakov and Lise are next)

and from the Idiot I've got: Myshkin, Rogozhin, Nastasya, Kolya, Ganya, Varya, Ptitsyn, General Ivolgin, Nina, and Ippolit (once I've made the right house I plan on making the Yepanchins as well)

so yeah, that's who I've got so far ahzhsh

maybe when I'm playing the Sims again I'll see if I can make some screenshots lmao

they've already been acting really in character, especially the brothers Karamazov characters (with whom I've already played the most), I can't wait to see them all interacting more with eachother

fun fact: I also have some anime characters in my the sims universe, and it's really funny to see the anime characters interact with the Dosto characters (like one time Alyosha was in the park and Light Yagami started throwing insults at him for no reason, then they made up, played a chess match and departed as friends)

I also plan on making more Sims from different classic lit, like Frankenstein, Dracula, maybe some Shakespeare characters

Do you know about Pavel? From his first marriage, with Marya Dmitrievna, Dostoevsky had a step-son named Pavel. The marriage was tumultuous, which had to do with both of their illnesses, and she passed away from tuberculosis. I think there was probably some conflict between them that stemmed from the conditions of the marriage.

Honestly, one of the things that fuck me up the most about The Brothers Karamazov, is not only that Dostoyevski names Fyodor Karamazov —arguably the most vile character in the novel— after himself; but that he names this character's pure son, mr. little ray of sunshine Alyosha, the same as the son Dostoyevski lost at three years old, a loss that pained him all his life, like????? what did you meant by this sir???? does such goodness only belongs to the realm of death?? of fantasy?? Are we always to taint good works through our polluting influence? what does this mean!!!!

Sorry for not replying right away, I wanted to get to all the pregnant Pavel stuff first lol.

As for your question, yes, I absolutely am going to finish it, I promise you this. I am so grateful for the readers who have waited from the very start of that fic and for the readers who just found it and are now anxiously waiting for me to update it soon, trust me the OG readers feel your pain.

I have most of the next chapter written already tbh, I just need to finish it and send it off to my beta. Truth is, I know exactly what is happening and where the series is going and how it’s going to end, my issue is getting is out of my brain.

I’ve mentioned before and have been very honest with my recent diagnosis of anhedonia, it is often a side effect of mental illness but can also happen on its own, what anhedonia is basically the inability to feel pleasure or happiness. I had a nervous breakdown a few months back after a full blown mental breakdown I had nearly two years ago now, I was on my way up but then the nervous breakdown happened and I basically backslid right into the loony bin. I’m home now, not in the hospital anymore, I’m actually staying with my parents. But there’s been a lot of shit happening, with me, with my family, my friends and even with my romantic partners. There’s just a lot going on and more keeps piling on and I literally cannot physically write, it sounds insane - because it is - but anything that I used to find passion or joy in, I can no longer do. I cannot physically bring myself to do anything, most of the time I have to be body doubled (someone stands next to me) just so I will brush my teeth or wash my hair. I spend most of my days sitting alone and staring at a wall, I have to be forced to eat, talk, interact with people.

Tbh this is the most I’ve interacted with people online in months! I dunno why today the idea of replying to asks didn’t fill me with dread, maybe because it started with laughing about Pit Babe and the possibility of mpreg, who knows.

I am under care, I am being medicated and I am being watched closely, I’m no real danger to myself, I promise that. And I have not abandoned ‘Do You Ever Cross My Mind’ or any of my other fics and projects, I’m just a little bit lost atm and need some time to figure out how to find my way back.

But know I am always willing to talk about my ongoing fics, so asks about them are always welcomed and I never want anyone to think I feel pressured or anything, I don’t. I know how difficult it is to wait for an update, so I don’t hold any questions against anyone. I legit have the best readers in the world, y’all have been nothing but kind and understanding and uplifting. I couldn’t be more grateful, really 💜
