Dean realizing in that moment exactly why Castiel is being taken by the Empty – that Castiel doesn't even expect him to say it back, that Cas only needs to make sure that Dean knows. and it would be enough to send him to the empty, would be enough to make him truly happy.

and panicked, he thinks — "what would I have to do to ruin it. to hurt cas irrevocably."

and Dean says it. says every hateful thing he can think of without meaning any of it. without thinking at all. and the empty–

retreats.

–and now Dean has to live every moment in abject terror, because it is his responsibility to make sure Cas doesn't get taken by the empty,

unable to tell the truth and unable to take back the lies.

but that one moment in which chi cheng decided to kill yellow dragon for suo wei wasn't just him choosing suo wei over the snakes

it was him choosing suo wei over the only other person who ever came close to being as important as those snakes to him

"i could never be mad at you" always hits harder when it's the morally–ambiguous, perpetually–angry one in the relationship saying it.

chi cheng is supposed to be a red flag to everyone except suowei (and he's even worse in the book) — though I don't think this show is taking it that far to prevent chi cheng from seeming irredeemable or making the show seem too dark

¹but we have to know how far chi cheng has gone before and is capable of going, to see the difference and understand the person that suo wei makes him.

baba and the mannar brothers.

baba has watched both brothers grow into the people they are today – and a part of him is definitely fonder of varadha, acting more as a stand-in-parent than advisor, especially after rajamannar basically disowned varadha.

while varadha as a child was level-headed, receptive, and handled most situations with wisdom and patience beyond his years, baachi must have been very different: more demanding and idealistic, especially with how sheltered he was by varadha.

and even though baba cared for baachi, he rarely had the patience to deal with the younger mannar sibling, helping out where possible, but not forming as close of a bond with him as what he had with varadha.

we see it when baachi yells at baba, not showing any regret for the disrespect, even when varadha reacts warningly.

baachi thinks of baba as family, clearly comfortable in his presence, but it seems like he doesn't receive parental love in particular from baba, and might even feel like baba is more on varadha's side than his.
