DISTANCE II - mcfoord
mcfoord x child!reader | sometimes things work out
read part one here
-
âiâll figure something out, promiseâ
the irish woman smiled softly in response to her girlfriendâs words, but she knew deep down that it would be unlikely, as much as sheâd love to believe it. flights from australia werenât typically what youâd think of when you heard of last minute, impromptu plans - and caitlin still had her own international duties to carry out, being without a doubt a pivotal player for the matildas.
despite the call helping your mood massively, the hours and that days that followed it were even worse than before, you demanding to âsee mummaâ constantly, and simply not understanding the concept of sleeping, or time difference.
-
after about four days of little to no sleep, itâs safe to say you were both pretty close to losing it.
katie had spent most of the evening busying herself with packing for the next daysâ training, making the absolute most of you finally being somewhat content for a brief moment - finding much joy in scribbling in your colouring pad, and also trying to distract her mind from spiralling ever so slightly.
she was incredibly worried about you, but alongside that was just simply exhausted. you hadnât slept properly the entire time youâd been stuck in this hotel, and if you had it was flat on top of her (almost directly on her face, making it impossible for her to rest even for a second)
and when you were awake you were miserable, crying or throwing a fit over things you never usually did - like her putting socks on you, or even just looking at you âin the wrong way.â
above all else, she missed caitlin, more than anything. arguably even more than you - it just wasnât socially acceptable for a twenty nine year old woman to kick and scream over not wanting to put a shirt on because of how much she did.
she struggled with long distance usually anyway, being a major home body - and you were typically her distraction, though right now you were quite the opposite.
and as much as the facetime calls helped you both, hanging up just brought her back to reality, and made her feel even sadder than before.
a sharp knock at the door broke her from her train of sorrows thoughts, standing to answer it with a sigh, assuming it would be a teammate wanting to talk over tactics, or even better, some kind of god coming to save the day.
turns out, she wasnât too far from right.
âhere sweetheart, iâll be right back, kay?â she murmured softly, ruffling your hair and wrapping you in a blanket, figuring that you should probably be covered than more than just a nappy in front of whatever unsuspecting visitor was on the other side of the door.
when she opened it however, she realised that she was in fact the unsuspecting one, freezing in shock.
âwhat the fu- cait?â she gasped, her eyes widening.
âsurprise?â the australian grinned in response, suitcase stood next to her. âspoke to the staff and managed to sort things out so i could catch the next flight to you. they can do without me for some friendliesâ she shrugged, chuckling softly as sheâs pulled into her girlfriendâs arms.
âyou, caitlin foord, are unbelievableâ katie breathed in pure relief, her body physically relaxing, almost slumping into her hold.
ânow, whereâs my little monster then?â caitlin broke the moment of silence, peeking over the brunetteâs shoulder.
katie stepped aside in response, chuckling in disbelief, gesturing inside and in the direction of the bed. âgo see for yourself.â
you were so invested in your colouring, and being grumpy - your back facing the door, that you didnât notice her entering.
âhey puddingâ she spoke, so softly it was almost a whisper, but your head snapped up as if she had shouted.
âmummaâ
caitlin opened her arms just in enough time for you to launch yourself off the bed and into them, with an alarming amount of strength for a toddler. you clung to her like a koala, burying your face in her neck and letting out a string of happy squeals and babbles - being by far the happiest katie had seen you in days.
âyou came back!â you said, voice muffled against her shoulder - your speech still being at the stage where it was just about understandable, but your two mothers understanding you perfectly every time.
âof course i did silly girlâ she tickled you, kissing the top of your head softly. âi missed you, my babyâ
katie leaned against the wall, still by the door, watching the two of you, her girls, with a loving smile, the weight sheâd been carrying for days finally beginning to lift.
the night drew in with the three of you curled up in the duvet of the hotel bed that had been the centre of all the weeks chaos - you nestled snugly in between your parents, having crashed out almost immediately after the initial excitement wore off.
katie and caitlin exchanged a look over your head, a silent agreement that nothing - no crazy schedules, no distance, would ever keep their little family apart like that for too long, ever again.
-
i have indeed not proof read this as i just got back from work and promised you all an updateâŠ.enjoy

Fuck! Wrong Body!
I can only jump bodies every few years and this fuckin' man had to jump to my eye line! I was ready to jump, to swap bodies with this hot athletic dude I've been watching for several weeks. I've got it all planned out. I'd switch bodies with him, take his money and live the same as I'd usually done; fucking and getting fucked and making sure this body is shown to the world. But goddammit, when I was finally ready to swap, I didn't waste one second and immediately tracked this dude. I took a deep breath and staring intensely at him, concentrating on him and only him. Then an old man passed by. It was instantaneous. I felt my spirit leave this vessel I'd been inhabiting and move to the older man. From behind a pillar, I suddenly found myself standing in the middle of a street, strange sensations coming over me as this body's senses kicked in.
I was stuck shocked for a moment, and behind the pillar a man was lying on the ground slowly waking up. I stared at the body I wanted to switch to. "You need something?" he said. I stare at his handsome faceâthe face I could've be as for several years.
"Iâ" my voice was much deeper. I suddenly felt the weight of this body. His blue polo shirt clung to his body. It was obviously a few sizes too small. I stare at my new gut. The realization finally dawned on me. "Fuck!"
People look in my direction, but I'm too upset to notice. "Goddammit! Why the fuck were you here?!" My voice was much deeper and older than my old body. I stare at his arms, then touch his face. Bearded. I touch his belly.
"Ugh," I groan, this weight very unfamiliar to me. I've mostly switched to athletes, those muscular jock types, so this was extremely different to what I'm used to. Soft music played in his ears and I throw the air pods away in frustration.
"Uhh." The athletic dude looked at me like I was crazy and left. I stare with a sigh as I see his body disappearing into the crowd. That could've been my body.
"Honey? What's wrong?" I hear a female voice from behind me say. I turn around. A woman, in her fifties, maybe. She's looking at me with deep concern. "What's wrong, honey? Are you feeling alright?"
I open my mouth, then close it shut. Without a word, I walk away from her quickly. I hear her echoes as I make my way deeper through the streets.
I run in this heavy, slow body. Everything feels jarring. When switching bodies, every element of your being needs time to reassess. The memories in the brain come in fragments, where it usually takes weeks to months to learn it all, but the thing that immediately makes it clear that you're in another body is the sensation. The physicality of it. For muscle jocks, everything is leaner, tighter, and easier. It's easy to bend his body, to jump, hell, it's easy to breathe. But this body is almost the exact opposite. His shirt is constricting his body. I'm still not sure why he decided to wear something a few sizes too small. His beard scratches his face. His belt cling to his body, his gut held. I feel so heavy and tired, or at least not as energetic as my past body used to be.
I take out his phone and open the camera.
I sigh. I suppose this beard is pretty cool. But I'm really not okay with the idea of being stuck in this body for a few years. He and his wife probably got kids, who'd come looking for him. That won't be a problem, but I tried not to switch bodies with men that had too many attachments. I walk through a random street, trying to get used to the way his body moves. No one's paying me any mind. It kind of feels nice, for a change. One time I switched with this dude who modelled, and the entire time I felt everyone's eyes on my body. But no one's paying me any attention now. I'm just another father vacationing with his family.
"Dario." The name comes out of this new body all of a sudden. "My name is Dario," I mutter in his voice. The details feel so hazy, as my new and old memories are still figuring out space. My name is Dario. I have a wife and two kids, one adult and one in college. I dig deep into his mind for more information about this man. Nothing yet but those key details.
I stop in a nearby cafĂ© to focus, trying to gather out any of his old life. Not that it's gonna be much use, since I already have a plan to do, but it's always important to make sure that the body you're inhabiting won't bring any problems. I try to imagine myself not as meâbut as Dario, a husband and a father of two. I make his body smile.
I'm sure anyone who knows Dario well can see something off. That the smile doesn't quite reach his eyes. That's naturally how it goes at first. If you plan on keeping this body's life and family, be sure to blend in with all his quirks and subtle movements.
I stare at his hairy arms, patting his belly and stroking the bulge in his trousers. I sigh. I just can't help think of the body I was supposed to switch to. This athletic dude with giant biceps and strong legs. I'd look at his body, and watch myself stroking his muscular chest, and muscular arms, talking dirty as I smelled his musk, then I'd...
I feel this body stiffen. I feel his cock harden and I give it a stroke, involuntarily letting out a moan (which earned several glances from people). Huh. This cock is... not bad at all, actually. It's average in size, butâI move his body in a more comfortable position, making sure to hide below the tableâit's... thick as a beer can. "Alright," I mutter, enjoying the warmth of his thick cock permeating from his trousers. There's some silver lining after all.
---
It's been a few months in this body. I'm still not completely sure if I like it. After the day I switched with him, I kept my current plan and cut off communication with this body's old life. I'm sure his family must be devastated, but I'll take good care of this body. He is much hairier than the usual ones I'd switch to, much older, definitely, but he's unexpectedly much more virile than I thought. He could last almost as long as those muscle jock dudes I've switched to.
And the attention! It's even different now. One walk at a bar and I still get a lot of glances, now usually from bears and twinks, (and I was much more into bodybuilders and jock types) but I don't hate it after all. His first time getting fucked was rough, and his ass was sore for a while, but I enjoyed watching this body getting plowed by a hairy bear who insisted on calling me daddy.
Memories of this body's life continue to flood, and it felt bad leaving his tenured professor job without a trace, but I'd say I'm making more use of this body by fucking and getting fucked as much as I can.

slides u twenty dollars can we consider jealous johnny if he sees reader is only that avoidant with him and no one else⊠i donât want to rush ahead in case you have something else planned but like, johnny hearing that there are rumors one of the baronâs newest maids is pregnant and the timing just lines up a little too well đ”âđ«đ”âđ«
-noona bc tumblr refuses to let me send asks from sideblogs
Hiiiiiiiii Noona đ
Thank you for the twenty, I'm gonna spend in on blind boxes, it's not an addiction, I can stop anytime I want. Spoilers concerning reader's pregnancy under the read more:
Gonna answer only the first part of this and save the second half because I don't wanna give away too much just yet. I will say that at the point this piece of the story takes place, our dear reader is indeed aware she's pregnant and has informed Konig, who insists on her having someone with her when she goes out into town. Anything could happen, and he fears the idea of her falling and harming herself or the baby, or having to do so much heavy lifting. They're just on friendly-ish terms though for now, as this isn't by the time reader has started showing, so no rumors have started flying yet. Also, curious how one section of this will be interpreted. Johnny exhaled as he stepped out of the shop, breath a thick fog in front of him as the winter chill set to work stinging his cheeks. Snow had fallen last night and stayed, keeping the roads slick. The thick woolen cap he wore snug around his head crushed down his signature hairstyle, but he'd rather have flat hair than a raw scalp. He rubbed his gloved hands along his wrists to fend off the shivers, the door behind him shutting with a clatter and the ring of bells as he moved along the walkway towards his next stop a few streets over. Four stores in, and he had yet to find what he was looking for. He wasn't entirely sure what that was, mind you, only that whatever it was remained elusive. It let him move about town all the same to get out of his house which had felt odd these past few weeks. Too loud, too quiet, achingly lonely yet also too many people nearby setting his nerves on edge. Impossible to get anything done, his irritation grew erratic like his thoughts. All he wanted was a moment of peace, a chance for his ever-restless thoughts to let him breathe lest he take it out on his staff.
Try as he might to deny it to himself, he knew why this happened. She wasn't there anymore. Packed up and left in the wee hours of the morn, when the fog was thick and the duchy silent as a graveyard. Didn't bother to inform him, merely the head maid whom had given him a look that said he was a fool. Shortly thereafter, word had gotten back to him that she had taken up a position in the Baron's home. He'd had to take a swift walk to handle that knotted up wad of string wrapped tightly in his gut.
If he were an honest man, he would say she hadn't truly been there even longer. It made his throat close up, the way she seemingly wasted away in his halls, sunken in on herself like a sunflower wilting in the frost. Like a cold snap at the start of winter, suddenly she had no time for him. Always quick to pull away from him, to find some task to do that kept her preoccupied from the start of the day until well past it. Hesitation whenever he asked her what was wrong, a momentary pause before she would tell him nothing was the matter, addressing him as 'my lord', as though the name she had permission to use would not escape her mouth.
Eyes always downcast, fixed on the floorboards or over his shoulder when she would bring herself to pretend to look him in the eye. Truth be told, he preferred it in some ways, the relief of not having that direct connection. At least then he didn't feel the weight of his inadequacy of caring for her, like a verdict cast down upon him. This way he could pretend that he was the man he was supposed to be. He stopped attempting to touch her in any way when he caught how she tensed, braced herself for contact. The kissing followed shortly thereafter, her strained smiles and broken laughter making him feel worse, like he never should have even tried. Anything further wasn't even on the table, and the thought of even broaching the subject made his insides churn. And so, he stopped. Filled his time with the other maids, though that never lasted long either. They weren't right; laughter too loud or high pitched, smile too far to one side, hair the wrong thickness between his fingers. It left him feeling further unease, as though he kept going down the wrong hallways in a maze that he had no chance of escaping. Like a picture set at the wrong angle, or shoes that are a size too small. It pinches him, makes something inside him pace like a beast in a cage, keeps him up at night. He knows what felt right, what kept him sated and content in his days. Eyes that gazed at him like he was her salvation, her sun, always turning towards him with a smile that made his own lips turn up. Soft hands even after hard work, rubbing over the calluses of his palms and stroking over any scars, pressing gentle kisses to them. Laughs and squeals that made his heart race like a schoolboy, cheeks flooded red with the desire to keep her that way, keep all of her attention on him. Even now as he turns the corner, he feels a small smile coming up from those memories, only to freeze awkwardly on his face.
Across the street there she walked, a small box wrapped in her free palm. He hadn't anticipated her being out, assuming she had remained indoors lest the chill finally do her in. He felt his breath leave his lungs at the sight while his blood raced at a fever pitch, heart beginning to hammer. She looked beautiful, the way she had before whatever had occurred at the duchy. Cheeks fuller than he had seen since this past fall, eyes bright and a small smile on her face, she looked radiant to him. Some piece of him, deep in his soul perhaps, relaxed in relief at the sight of her hale and hearty. Another part of him, a part of who he is as a man, feels the stirrings of bitterness at the fact she seems to flourish again once out of his reach. But he couldn't help the way he wanted to grit his teeth and snarl at who stood at her side. Baron Konig, the man who had poached her from him. Still draped in his silly shroud, he was covered head to toe, a thick peacoat covering him and sturdy boots making contact with the ground, clicks following. Even with the coat in the way, Johnny's eyes narrowed at the way her hand was tucked into the crook of his arm. Why does that bastard have the right to touch her? He must have said something under that hood, for she looked up at the Baron and let out a chuckle, breath pluming out for a moment before she responded with something that he nodded in return to. In his free arm he held several packages, looking for all the world as though they weighed nothing. To a man of that size, they probably didn't.
Johnny felt the acidic tendrils of jealousy lance through him, searing him from the inside out while he fought the need to bare his teeth and tear into the man. He couldn't help it, truly he couldn't. That should have been him with her, guiding her down the street while she looks up at him and laughs at whatever he tells her. Actually no, he thought, she shouldn't be out here at all. She should have been back in the duchy with him, playfully seated on his desk, fire roaring and keeping them both toasty while he pretended to work. He would reach out and cup her face, stroking the apple of her cheek, while she would lean in and reward him with a kiss for his hard work that day. A game they had played before, the two of them wrapped up against the bitter outside world, a secret shared between their hearts.
Why does she not look at him that way? What did he do to harm her? What must he do to have her return to him? Just look at him again, please. Even just a passing glance, something to show that she still recalls who he is, who he can be to her.
Words of adoration and touches that feel like absolution dissipate from his eyes, Johnny swallowing a small noise behind his teeth when he sees how she leans into the Baron so she can stretch slightly higher and say something in his ear. Never before has Johnny wished to be lesser in society so as to step forward and take her hand and pull her home, show everyone who she is meant for. Unable to bear the sight any longer he hunches his head into the collar of his coat and swiftly turns around. His attempts at finding peace have only led him to further turmoil.
As he heads back to his carriage, his thoughts circle over and over, ruminating and digging furrows into his sanity.
He doesn't deserve this, none of this. Not with a woman like that, not with her. When he returns to the house, he has letters to write.

Whumpee & His Collar part 2
Warnings: tight collar around Whumpee's neck, severely restricted breathing, mentions of beating and past torture & conditioning, panic attack and choking
The collar was tight around his neck, digging into his skin with every strained breath he took.
"Oh honey, I promised I wouldn't hurt you here, and I keep my promises," Caretaker tried to soothe. "Why don't you want the collar off?"
"What did I do wrong?" Whumpee choked out.
"What did you... do wrong?" Caretaker echoed, confused. "You did nothing wrong, Whumpee -- what gave you that impression?"
Whumpee pointed with a shaky finger to the collar around his neck. "Y-You were going to take it off, which means I did something horrific and need to be thoroughly punished for it." He couldn't understand why, but he saw Caretaker's eyes fill with sad tears.
"I... think I understand now. But you're not with Whumper anymore," Caretaker spoke softly. "New house, New rules, okay? You will never be hurt here. Not even with your collar off."
Whumpee found it hard to believe her words. His entire life revolved around this collar, it gave him a clear sense of direction and purpose. So that he would always know what to expect at any given time, depending on how tight it was strapped around his throat.
But Caretaker hadn't done anything with it in all the time since his rescue. So... maybe she was telling the truth...
Whumpee's chest was heaving with the effort to keep breathing by now, his mouth gaped open as he gasped and choked on sobs.
"Whumpee, please -- you're going to pass out if you keep it up. Please let me take it off. I promise I won't hurt you, and I will always love and care for you. Do you trust me?" Caretaker reached her hands out toward him, pausing a few inches away as though waiting for permission to make contact. Giving Whumpee a choice, to accept or deny her help.
Whumpee squeezed his eyes shut tight, terrified beyond belief, but forced himself to give a shallow nod. But he still reflexively flinched when he felt Caretaker's warm hands gently cup his face, a soothing and comforting presence.
"You're going to be okay, Whumpee, just breathe..."
Whumpee tried his absolute best to obey, he really did, to be good and perfect for her -- but it was just so difficult with the tight collar in place, his situation worsened by the panicked hyperventilating. He felt Caretaker's hands gently slide down from his jaw to his neck, carefully fiddling with the clasp keeping the collar on him.
The fear washed over him all over again, but he managed to hold still as Caretaker finally unbuckled the collar and took it off completely. Cold air hit the skin where the collar always rested for the first time in weeks, a sensation so unnatural and foreign to him.
Then there were strong arms around him, pulling him away from the wall he was curled up and cowering against and into a fierce hug.
âYou're so brave, Whumpee, so so braveâ Caretaker praised comfortingly, running a soothing hand through his hair in the way she knew he liked most.
Whumpee trembled like a fragile leaf in her arms with a whine, burying his face into her shoulder, and clinging to her desperately like a lifeline. It felt different to be able to properly breathe again, so strange after he'd gotten used to the calculated, measured breaths he'd take whenever the collar was on.
He gulped it down greedily, sucking in as much fresh air as he could with each deep breath. Caretaker was right, it felt so much better to have the torturous collar off.
âY-You're not going to abandon me now that's it off, are you?â Whumpee asked quietly, his voice wobbly and uncertain.
âNever, Whumpee, never,â Caretaker answered firmly. There was no hesitation whatsoever in her tone, and Whumpee wanted to cry again â in gratitude this time instead of fear.
âThank you for taking care of me, Caretaker,â Whumpee mumbled into her shoulder.
âAlways,â Caretaker whispered into his ear. An eternal promise, one that she would forever keep.

Chapter 3: We are both Pretty Messed Up
LADS: Sylus X Reader
Warning: Angst-Anxiety-Delusion
~
âGo to dinner with me.â Sylus interrupts your current interrogation over how he was so easily able to lead you to your front door. You assume that after three weeks of the same question he was looking for a way to avoid an answer once again.
The bartender gasps at his request, a sly smile now plastered on her face. âSylusâŠâ You warn him as you sip on your drink, your eyes scrutinize his every expression And body movement. He sits as regally as ever giving nothing away.
You let out an aggravated breath and look at the surprised and exuberant woman, shaking your head. She simply giggles and skips away to take another order.
âSeriously! I know a great place downtown. Come on Y/NâŠâ Those ruby orbs challenge you. He never quite gives you direct replies to any query you ask. It would be a lie to say it wasnât driving you a bit mad.
âWhatâs wrong with the bar?â You counter in frustration. You were already out of your comfort zone associating with this man. The idea of going to an unfamiliar place was down right worrying. Sylus clicks his teeth in defiance.
âNothing, but this is your turf. If we want to continue being friends, shouldn't you amuse me just a bit?â He leans closer, his shoulder bumping yours playfully. âHmmmâŠâ his breath tickles your ear and you pull away as heat rises to your cheeks.
âWe donât have to be friends. You're free to do as you like.â You snap back rolling your eyes. âI have no desire to entertain you.â Part of that was a lie. Now that this man has sauntered into your life, every time you walk through these doors you automatically seek him out. Yet letting people in has always been a difficult task. You associate closeness with a deep pain that still hasnât quite faded yet.
âIt is just dinner sweetie. Why so precautious?â His tone is a bit condescending. You glare in his direction but you have come to realize he enjoys your aggravation, your mood swings.
âSays the man who refuses to tell me anything about himself.â You stick to your position and he chuckles. Two more drinks were laid in front of you.
âI could say the same about you.â Sylus says lightly but his gaze is intense. Both of you wanting companionship without truly conversing leaves your banter tense at times. Neither one of you is willing to break. âWhat do I have to do?â He asks, sounding almost genuine.
You donât respond right away. You were not sure that there was really anything he could do to convince you. You were set in your ways and a creature of habit. Your youth you spent time masking in social events to come home burnt out and exhausted. Now that you were older it was much easier to avoid them.
âIâll payâŠâ He attempts to sweeten the deal. Seeing you still lost in thought he snaps his finger in your face, you scowl. âDonât make me beg darling. Itâs degrading.â You deadpan and then burst into laughter at his words. You try and imagine the great Sylus pleading to anyone, it seems ridiculous.
âFine.â You say and he grins widely. He promises to text you the information and make time. Though you were nervous that strange sense of excitement presented itself once again.
~
Your headphones shielded you from the copious amount of noise heard around you, office gossip and chatter. You are zoned in on the spreadsheet in front of you while your mind visualizes scenarios based on what song played next. You are so absorbed in your work that you nearly flew out of your chair when the coworker in front of you waves their hand from over the cubicle.
âYou startle so easily.â They laugh amused by your reaction. Not realizing that your life experience has caused you to tread more carefully in the world. You put on your best friendly smile and take out your earbuds.
âI was wondering if you could stay a bit late again. I wasnât able to finish up a few reports but my daughter has practice.â She always did this to you on Friday afternoons. You usually did not mind. It wasnât like you didnât get paid extra but this time was different.
You try your best apologetic expression, âIâm really sorry I actually have dinner plans today.â You explain and are surprised when her eyes widen in shock. The frenzied typing and jumbled disconnected conversations halt as others in your department hear what you just said.
You shrink back a bit as all the attention is fixated on you. The woman puts up her arms, âItâs no problem Y/N. You always help me out. You haveâŠâ
She is unable to finish her sentence because your boss comes bounding out excitedly, towards you from her office. âFred just told me you had plans this evening via messenger!â
You look around and everyone seems to have moved closer to your area. Their concentration centered on your next words. âYeah⊠itâs not a big deal. Just dinner with a friend. Well I donât even know if Iâd call him that yet.â
âHim?!?â Your boss claps and you wish for a sink hole to swallow you whole, any form of escape. âWhere are you going?â She buzzes with energy, more enthusiastic about this than you could ever be.
âSome steak place on Fifth St.â You felt obligated to provide answers. All you wanted to do was turn around and continue working. Yet you could sense that none of your colleagues had ill intentions, they were just surprised the office hermit had actual plans on a Friday.
âThat place is so nice! He must really like you.â Your boss continues and another colleague interrupts, âA casual dinner at that place is crazy. I took my wife there for our fifteenth anniversary and almost had a heart attack when the bill arrived. He REALLY likes you.â
âNo I donât thinkâŠâ You feel heat rush to your cheeks. You avoid eye contact. âIs it really that fancy? I had never heard of it.â You mumble and the group laughs.
âYes! White table clothes on the tables and special utensils.â Another person shouts. You suddenly get anxious, Sylus was planning on picking you up since you worked close by the restaurant. You look down at your worn out dress pants and top.
Your boss elbows the person beside her to shut them up. âYou always look great. I can see you second guessing yourself.â You look up at her and sigh. âAlright everyone back to work!!â She makes a commotion to shoo everyone back to their desk. Then lean next to you. âYou are a great person. You deserve this.â You give her a small smile and nod, even as you doubt her words.
~
The last few minutes you recieve a text message from Sylus, informing you he is parked up front. You quickly finish the rest of your work and feel eyes on you as you sign out and collect your things. âIs he here?!â The woman in front of you stands and you nod.
âHave a great weekend Y/N.â She gushes and you attempt to hide your groan as you nod. Your nonchalance does not offend her as she gives you a thumbs up. You wish everyone else a good weekend as you leave for the day. Everyone enthusiastically returns the gesture.
As you ride down the elevator panic begins to settle in your chest. It had been quite a while since you went out to eat. The closest is picking up food at the convenience store by your house. Familiarity makes you feel comforted each time you walk through those automatic doors. But this restaurant you have never visited so it would be a completely new experience. Your heart raced in your chest as the doors dinged open. You felt pathetic, surely when you were younger just going to a restaurant did not make you feel so exhaustedâŠ.
You swallow anxiously and cling to your bag tighter as you make your way out the large glass door of the entrance to your office. The receptionist wishes you well and you do the same. Your footsteps feel heavier with each step.
You look around to find him and it was not a difficult task. A luxury black Audi stands out amongst the average vehicles, sleek and sophisticated. Leaning against the passenger door aloof and unbothered Sylus scans the area. When his red eyes meet your own, that fox-like grin greets you. You wave dramatically causing him to chuckle as he mimics your gesture.
âWhy do you look like you have seen a ghost?â He questions when you're closer. âDid something happen at work?â That deep velvety tone, doesnât reassure you like usual.
âMy coworkers kind of swarmed me when I told them I had plans today.â You say rolling your eyes. Another hearty laugh escapes his lips.
âIs that why they are all crowded by the window?â He questions and you let out an audible sigh. You slowly turn your gaze towards the building. Sure enough, your entire department was squished against the glass to get a view of the man taking you out. âThatâs real cute.â He gives them a wave and they all return it.
âJust get in the damn car.â You say harshly and he looks down at you challenging your aggression. âPleaseâŠâ you add a bit more desperately. He studies you for a second then opens the door. You scurry inside, the smell of leather and his aftershave strong.
Everything was a bit too much at the moment your mind was overwhelmed. You fidget with your hands in an attempt to calm down. You feel him enter and his gaze on you but your focus is on the floorboards. His large hand reaches out to take yours but you shake your head and he quickly retracts them.
Sylus does not respond, he starts the car and pulls out of the parking space. The silence between you this time felt oppressive. You werenât able to speak, even though you wanted to apologize. You were in an overstimulated state brought on by the events of the afternoon. Surely after such a display Sylus would want nothing to do with you and you wouldnât blame him.
As you were trapped in your own mind, you felt a cool breeze hit your face. He must have rolled down the window slightly. Your eyes close on instinct as you took in a breath. Your heart is finally slowing to a normal pace, the smells not so overpowering.
You manage to look out the window and frown. âWhere are we going? We passed the restaurant.â You ask in curiosity.
âI didnât really feel in the mood for a fancy steak dinner. So change of plans.â Sylus says with a cool demeanor, something you could never achieve. You sit back and strangely enough you feel yourself relaxing the rest of the drive, you felt you could trust him. If he wanted to harm you he had plenty of opportunity previously.
~
You raise your eyebrow at him when he pulls into the parking lot of an arcade. Not just any arcade, it was charming and sweet. The building is decorated with promotional signs of an adorable cat mascot. Children and couples walk in and out full of cheerful chatter.
Sylus is as stoic and mysterious as ever, as he places the car in park. Yet when he unfastens his seatbelt he glances at you with a look that tells you he isnât interested in explanations. You respect his unspoken request and follow him out of the car.
As you watched Sylus casually speaks with the token clerk, a bright friendly smile on his handsome face, you were amazed by his ability to interact with anyone with ease. It was the opposite to how you first met him, unwilling to converse as he sulked at the bar.
You stood off in a corner amused by how much he stuck out amongst the average populace, like yourself. You blended into the crowd but he could never. He towers over most, all lean muscle visible in his tight designer sweater. You cringe at what that must have cost him. You observe how others eyes are drawn to him with no effort.
He looks over at you and shakes a plastic pink cup with tokens and you canât help letting a laugh escape from your lips. You follow as he leads you, as if he has taken this path many times before.
âSylus!â A worker shouts his name as you both walk past, aware of who he is. Sylus waves with a charming expression but does not stop to talk. Glancing over his shoulder to make sure you are still there. You want to question him but based on mannerism earlier you know he was not ready.
âMy nemesis.â He proclaims when you reach a row of claw machines, filled with varying stuffed animals. âAre you any good at these?â He questions handing you a token.
You donât want to bring down the mood even more than you already have. âIâve never tried.â You answer simply as you run your thumb across the cheap coins surface.
He doesnât question you but motions for you to play. âThese things are a scam.â You mutter but push the token in, the machine lights up and begins playing an upbeat tune.
Sylus chuckles, âI think thatâs just an excuse for when you fail, miserably sweetie.â You scowl at him which makes him grin wider. âFirst step is deciding your victim.â He points to the array of stuffed toys.
As you stare at the options nothing really stood out to you, you didn't really have a preference. âIsnât this a bit childish Sylus.â You counter and he scoffs. You scold yourself again, using a term your parents always used against you even when you were a child.
Then you spot it, in the corner laying on its side, a teal t rex with a goofy grin. Before he could quip a response you interrupted, âThat one!â Sylus hums beside you pleased.
âGo for it.â He orders crossing his arms. You begin to analyze the space, moving the claw closer to your target. You decide to grab it from the side, hoping the metal claw was able to open wide enough.
You push the button and gleefully jump when it wraps around it. Then you groan as the weight causes it to fall back amongst its kind. âSo close. Great for a first attempt. Want me to get it for you?â He asks, as confident as ever. You nod now determined to claim the Dino. You assume he is an expert based on being recognized here and his conviction.
You move out of the way and he takes your spot. You watch him calculating the space, it is almost intimidating. His hand engulfs the controller, gently tapping so that hovers above the target. Then unexpectedly he causes the claw to spin and pushes the button.
âPfft!!â You cover your mouth to hide your laugh, he was not even close to the prize. A stern expression replaces his chivalrous one. He places in another token more focused than ever.
~
You lost count of the attempts and amount of cups brought over filled to the bream with gleaming coins. With a sneer he mutters, âYou could at least encourage meâŠâ This was a new side to him you had never seen, it made him seem more human.
âWant me to pat your shoulder for good luck or something?â You say teasingly and the fire in his eyes could have incinerated you where you stood if he had powers. âThatâs not who I am. How about you just step aside?â
He surrenders the remaining coins and makes room for you. He stands behind you and aggressively shakes your shoulders. âYou have got this kitten.â
âCall me kitten again and I will force feed these coins down your throatâŠâ you respond, causing him to chuckle. You side eye him and he gives you some space, though you can tell he is not threatened in the slightest.
You turn back towards the machine and focus on the task at hand. The blue T. rex looks smug as it leans against the glass. âIâm taking you homeâŠâ you say with conviction and then move the claw in place.
The metal clasp scoops up the tricky dinosaur but you donât get your hopes up, you had been deceived before. It begins to move with the plushy still in place and finally drops it in the bin for you to collect. âFuck yeah!!â
A parent nearby gives you a glare while covering their childâs ears. You cover your mouth forgetting where you were. âSee encouragement helps.â Sylus ignores the fussy parent to compliment himself.
âSureâŠâ You grab the plushie in victory. Itâs goofy lopsided grin enduring. He smiles at your enthusiasm. âDinner is on me. I think you might have gone broke after all your attempts.â
âGuess we are just going to keep rubbing salt in my wounds.â He says feigning a pout. You laugh and grab his arm to take him towards the snack bar. âMore greasy foods, lovely.â
âStarve then but Iâm definitely getting something.â You say dragging him along, he doesnât protest, merely walks beside you.
You look up when you feel his body grow rigid and his expression is surprised. You realize this was the first time you initiated touch in a long time. You release him embarrassed. âSorry.â You mutter softly, looking down at your feet.
He grabs your chin, lifting it up to make you look him in the eyes. âDonât ever apologize for something like that.â He was deathly serious, it came out as a threat. You swallow heavily and nod. The seconds felt like minutes as he held you, both of you unsure what is happening, yet unwilling to move.
Someone close by clears their throat and you both jump a part. âGeez grown adults acting like teenagersâŠâ you hear them mutter and you bite your lip in shame. This isnât what that was, you protest in your mind. You stumble towards the snack bar, your mind a mess.
Before you could reach the counter his long strides beat you to it. âDessert first.â He mumbles in passing, his voice seeming far off. His eyes looked forward but distant.
You let him order and he subconsciously guides you to a booth. Too flustered to pay much attention to what was happening you followed beside him as if you were a lost stray looking for affection.
The sugary concoction set down before you made you cringe. Ice cream with every possible topping, a sensory nightmare. âWhatâs wrong, treasure this was your favoriteâŠâ Sylusâs voice sounds as if he is in an illusion of his own creation.
This causes you to quickly recover. Everything hits you at once, you feel dumb when your heart breaks just a little. He is confusing you for someone else right now. The subtle warning in the car with just a glance. The staff knew him by name. You stand up abruptly as Sylus holds a spoon up in your direction to feed you.
This man is heartbroken; seeing him like this made you feel bad for him. This was worse than seeing him slumped over at the bar with a stiff drink. Your movement causes him to blink and he suddenly realizes where he is and who he is with. âY/NâŠâ He calls your name and you smile at him warmly.
âIâm not big on sweets. So I'm just going to grab a soft pretzel with nacho cheese.â You make sure your voice holds no hostility. Sylus nods and quickly eats the spoonful of dessert himself.
When you return he tries to speak, âIâŠâ you hold up your hand and he looks at you sadly. âLet meâŠâ You grab his hand and squeeze with force, he lets out a breath.
âYou donât have to Sylus.â You reassure him as you let him go. âWhen you want to talk about it feel free to. Iâm not upset. So donât feel any obligation. Alright?â He studies you then, you see appreciation cross his features. He simply nods.
You both finish your snacks in that familiar silence. âWe both are pretty messed up arenât we?â He says almost gleefully and you laugh agreeing with him. âThank you.â He adds and you smile.
âWhat are friends for?â You quip and he chuckles with you. Even when you both lose yourself, somehow you shake each other back to reality. It has been a while since you met someone like him. You want to keep the walls up but some part of your self consciousness knows the longer you're around him the harder it will be. You wonder if he is thinking the same thing as you both give each other weary glancesâŠ

ïżœïżœ MASTERLIST | âł TAGLISTS ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
"I said get out of my way."
"And I said no."
"I won't tell you again, dog."
"Not that it'd make much of a difference. You're not going."
All she wants is one night. On the full moon no less. The worst night of the entire month she could be pulling this shit on. The highest peak where triggering your wolf side is as simple as breathing too loudly.
Her eyes thin with a narrowed glare, dangerously ringed with the scarlet glow of her magic, her dark stained lips pull tautly - fresh applied lipstick - sticking out like a sore thumb on her.
Well, maybe not so sore when you can't help but ogle at the way her dress hugs her body so voluptuously, pushing her bust up to form a defined cleavage that just dares to steal your attention.
But this banter and back and forth, it's like you can't stop. You're enemies.
When she tried to casually float past everyone in the common area with an airy farewell, you were already putting yourself in her way. Her eyes trailed up the wall that was your body, having to push aside the momentary fluster that caught her off guard, but it was a little hard when you wore a shirt that made your muscles bulge.
"Y/Nâ" she tries but you quickly cut her off beneath a bared snarl. "I said no. Tony's away on business and he's told me to keep an eye on you."
She scoffs at that, her eyes rolling madly off to the side. With a shake of her head, she lightly laughs out with a note of dried sass, "So you're being a good lap dog?"
She sees the crease in your brow furrow, deepening. You had... issues with that term. Yes, Tony allowed you to stay here and join the Avengers -- all at the behest of Fury -- but still, that didn't mean you and Tony were any form of close.
He could hardly stand you but he found you were rather useful when it came to interrogations and locating things or people that didn't want to be found. He just found it hard to compete with your territorial behaviour.
But being called a lap dog flipped a switch in you. The wolf, stirring, is held back just barely.
'Not now. Not here.'
As if you need to even glance in the direction of your company to know that they were tensely prepared to intervene if you so much as coiled your spine.
"It's not safe for you to be out there," you tell her, voice cold and stern as you slowly close what gap remained between you both. You're so close now that you breathe in the other's orbit. One wrong, soft hitch of her breath and she'll have you pinning her against the wall.
You wipe that triumphant smirk off Wanda's face the moment she tries to walk past you. You sweep her up and hoist her over your shoulder, earning a barrage of kicks to the ribs and smacks to your back, each one eliciting a mere grunt or growl in response and fueling the conflict of that internal drive. Sam and Steve step out of your way lest they receive either a nasty heel wound to the face or worse; your aggression.
'struggling prey.'
'If she doesn't quit it, I'll give her something to writhe and cry about.'
'No. We can't do that.'
"What are you doing? Put me down! Put me down right now!" Wanda's voice shrieks down the hallway as you carry her back to her room, tossing her unceremoniously down on her bed before you storm out.Â
You ignore the way she makes to run at you, sputtering curses at you in that Sokovian tongue of hers that rings along her accent in a way that has your hackles raised; your wolf alive and stirring.
This woman is fucking dangerous to you.
Your eerie quietness is her answer as the door shuts and locks behind you, leaving Wanda to bang against the barrier enough to shake it. You can feel the pounding deep through your palms and your claws squeeze out from the beds of your fingers, causing your grip to turn into tightly bound fists.
All the blood is rushing south and there's little you can do about it. Not with the mental image of Wanda in that tight little dress, forcing less than tame images to flash in your wolfish imagination and to practically salivate.
'Fuck this full moon shit...'
"Hey, Wolf," Bucky calls from down the hall. you only just see the trigger of a flinch when you meet his eyes, brows furrowed into a wrinkled snarl. He cocks his head back towards the common area, towards the upstairs just as a loud hum of music beats to life. "Wanna come play some pool?"
Grumbling and noticing that Wanda has stopped her brutal rampage against the door, you gruffly retort as you begin walking towards the ex-Hydra assassin. "Yeah."
You need your mind off of the full moon. It's driving you crazy. You have to get Wanda out of your mind. She's driving you fucking insane.
With a single strike of your stick, you drop several of the rolling balls. A series of defeated groans come from your competitors, to which you smirk with a roll of your brows while you take a swig from your beer. Awful stuff that made your head drown with a dizzying ache and left a gross froth in the back of your taste, but at least it tamed your mind by some measure.
"So what's the deal behind you and Wanda?" Sam asks, applying a new coating of the chalk. The casual essence of the question is lost to you, instead you take a moment to really consider the secret agenda behind his curiosity. Was it that obvious that there was tension there?
An unresolved, explicit tension? Surely it can't be labelled as chemistry. Shrugging your large shoulders, you adjust yourself to take your next shot. You're avoiding any form of eye contact with either him, Steve or Bucky.Â
"Nothing."
Your gruff retort does little to hide the suspected mystery. Something happened between you both if the way you're each at each other like cats and dogs was any indicator. Through your nose you take a breath to stabilise yourself, to concentrate on sinking another ball.
"Doesn't sound like nothing. C'mon, we're all guys here, you can tell us," Sam says, "Did you guys sleep together or something?" Bucky shoves into the Falcon's shoulder roughly, jerking him and earning a crooked, confused brow in response.
The inquiry was the final nail in the coffin for you tonight. The air feels thick, laced earnestly with an ominous cloud. The colour of your eyes become illuminated by that bright, burning amber hue. Sam is compelled under the ire of your glare to raise his hands in surrender.
The ball you aimed for remained unmoving against the green canvas and your stick dug a ragged scratch deep enough to scratch the wooden panel below.
"You made me miss my shot," is what you say instead. What you really wanted to say â to do â would have landed you and the Avengers all together in the wary graces of the government.Â
Sensing something greatly amiss in the air, Steve procures a hand to Sam's shoulder, both urging him with a single glance of those America's blue to reign himself in and then towards you, warding you off whatever you planned to do.
The sound of a dry chuckle chokes in your throat, caught halfway that it comes out as more of a snicker. You toss the stick aside with a sigh. "I'm calling it quits there, guys."
None of their imploring works to change your mind when you begin heading out towards the balcony, beer bottle in hand. Right by the moon's clockwork, you get a cramping twitch that locks in the muscle of your neck. You hiss sharply and use your other hand to massage against it, pawing at the tender spot that barely dullens the pain.
Natasha watches you leave, noting the very soured expression of an agitated animal and she follows after you.
You've barely made it to the railing, your weight slouching over it before you hear the glass panel door whizz with a polished glide and shutting.
Your shoulders slump with another sigh. "What now..." you mutter to yourself.
"So no shirtless moping tonight?" Natasha begins with a teasing purse of her lips, her voice light to feign an air of disappointment. You chuckle as much at her attempt to cheer you up at least, no matter how futile it may be.
"Sorry to disappoint."
She shrugs, hand rolling her own bottle around in her grasp. "It's whatever anyway. I don't think Wanda wouldn't like it if someone else was eying up her guy anyway,"
Your canine grin turns southward and a small rumble of a growl claws its way up your throat, ending with a low chuff. "We're notâ"
" âAnything, I get that," she cuts in smoothly, catching you off guard that it makes you pause suddenly in your silent stun.Â
With a closed, puckered smile, she continues, "She did look awfully pretty tonight. Shame you locked her up in her room like a bad, bad girl."
"Okay, stop that," you grumble softly and she laughs. You can't help but let the smallest of smiles grace your own features too.
"Still, there is the mystery behind it all. Did you guys sleep together?"
"Iâ I don't... really want to talk about it, Nat."
She slaps her hand across your shoulder and tsks her tongue at you, scolding and venomous. "We've known each other for years now. Come on, you can talk to me."
Silence takes its place between you both for some time then. You polish another few sips from your drink before rolling it between your palms, palms tracing anxiously over the smooth surface, your mind running a hundred miles an hour. The moonlight beats down on you with a ferocious spell, it's a force so powerful that it makes your skin emit with this residing heat.Â
With a shaken surge of breath, you exhale out. "Wanda and I... it wasn't a one off thing. It happened a few times. She was- y'know, she was lonely, Vision had just cut things off with her and she was fucking devastated over it."
Natasha doesn't say anything and you're not sure if you're relieved or worried. Either way, you continue on. "A-and it just happened. All of a sudden we were in bed together, over and over again, and I never really got to process it until afterwards."
"You walked out on her."
Your head falls forward with a solemn exhale. "Yeah."
"And now she's hell bent on getting the better of the wolf."
You only hum in response. It could be the only reason why you've suddenly become so hostile towards each other. Natasha takes another swig of her beer, finding a breath of reprieve on the passing breeze, she squeezes your shoulder with an affectionate poke to the ribs.
"Then maybe set that wolfish pride aside and actually do something about it. I see the way you look at her still, it's obvious you wanna be with her."
"I can't- we can't..." Tony's words bounce around the chamber of your head, each time a sharp ring against the gilded cage that keeps your other half in check, but it only brews a stirring of inner chaos; of that inner rage you take into the field with you.
"Enough excuses, Y/N," Natasha says firmly with a narrowed glance. Her gaze is commanding, a predator about to pounce on you if you don't heed her advice.
"If you wait around, you'll really miss your chance. And if I know anything about your kind, you can become insane fuckers when you're rejected."
Your chin ducks down and if the wolf was out, your ears would be straightly pinned back along your neck, a quiet whimper making itself free involuntarily. Natasha retreats inside with a confident saunter and you watch after her like her very words are a radiant force around her but when she's gone, you turn back to watch over the expansive lawn of the compound. A short level of your beer remains in the bottle, swirled endlessly around as you search your feelings and think over Natasha's words.
She wasn't wrong about what she said. You've kept your heart suspended in the air long enough. From day one you've remained in this distance place that keeps you from forming any real attachments, even to Natasha despite your past in Hydra together. The only one you've even come close to scraping that surface of attachment with was Wanda, and now you've gone and fucked that up on purpose; neglecting the consequences thereafter.
It's no wonder that the moon's influence has become stronger over you. You're a freight train of rage and carnage waiting to happen.
'It's for the best', is what you try to reason by as you raise the bottle to your lips, soured in your expression and furthermore in your foul mood.
'Maybe. But you forget, we are companion creatures.'
"We've been alone before for ages now. It's not different.'
'We weren't in love before her.'
Such an internal confession almost brings you to drop your finished drink, the bottom of your tongue twitching that it sends a surge of vibrations through your jaw, causing it to tremble.
That word: love.
Your body shifts to stand taller and you're about to turn on your heel to head back inside when the door slides open, almost flung off its hinges when you see the panic in their faces. Your skin erupts with this flurry of sickly heat dwindling into a sticky coolness, fur just beneath the surface cutting against the layers like knives.
"Wanda's gone!"
She's pissed you off real bad this time.
"Shit! Y/N, slow down," Natasha growls, pulled by the gravity of force as you suddenly twist the wheel and burn the tires out just to turn a simple corner, ignoring the blaring red lights of traffic.Â
How she managed to give everyone -- give you -- the slip is beyond you, all you do know is that Wanda has buried herself six feet deep with this one.
All you can think about as you twist and wind around the corners, half focused on Natasha strictly because she's tracked Wanda's location, is that Hydra is out there. They could be anywhere. They could be with her right now.
Ignoring the stern bellow of car horns, you speed harshly around one corner.
Sam's voice cuts in through the comms. You barely register it. "Guys, Bucky's taking an alternative route. He'll provide cover on the outside if things get dicey."
"Wow, she's acting like the wild cat tonight," Natasha all but mutters to herself. You don't know exactly why but your eyes flick to her screen and what you see makes your blood boil and your foot drops flat to the accelerator.
You'd hate to imagine what the guy in the photo is thinking seeing Wanda in that skimpy, tight little dress, lips pursed with a coy smirk as she poses with another girl who's taking the photo.
Found myself a new girlfriend, yaaaa'll. Ain't she cute??? <3
"Y/Nâ" Natasha tries to reason. She can see it in the visible stiff of your side profile that you're beyond human reason. This is wolf reason. No, this is territorial.
'I'll kill him, I'll kill him, I'll kill him...'
'I'm going to kill someone tonight...'
'Calm down, Y/n!'
The wolf is so close to the surface that the amber glow in your eyes no longer came in waves of pulsating rage, instead remaining aglow and your canines having grown to the point that it hindered your speech. Whatever you were trying to say fell on deaf ears. Natasha could only hear the feral growls and sounds of a viscous and apex predator.Â
In record timing and many ran red lights, you arrive.
Before you know what's happening in your own mind, your own body, you're storming your way inside and past the bouncers, shoving hard at them when they try to stop you. Natasha, Steve and Sam are hot on your trail as you're set on the straight and narrow path.
You pay little mind to the eyes that wander after you either in momentary intrigue or confusion when you all but brush them aside.
Your senses are seeking her out, your nose follows after the mark her scent leaves behind and like a hound, you're on it in a matter of seconds and find a sight that has the veins in your neck straining and all restraint it takes to not let the wolf out.
Before Natasha or Sam can grab you, you march towards Wanda, aggressively shouldering the guy you'd seen in the picture off her.
"Get your fucking hands off her," you growl venomously, tone barely audible beneath the bass of it and the loud music. Wanda stumbles slightly on her heels, eyes wide and frantic to search you out as if unable to believe you'd actually found her.
"Y/N, he wasâ"
"Hey, dude, lay off!" the guy interjects with a sneer, scoffing as he begins to size you up, trying to ignore the way you easily tower over him. With a haughty roll of your shoulders, something cracks in your neck. Perhaps the first bone or muscle of your shifting.Â
"I'll lay you six feet under instead."
Wanda, sensing what is about to transpire between the telltale signs, she steps in front of you and pushes her hands against you. Her touch is enough to hold you back for now, a force compelling by the power of her scarlet magic, able to temper the beast within, yet still; it doesn't keep that dangerous aura of amber to emit from your heated glare.
The guy, face now pale and his intoxicated ego submit with a downward tilt of his head and aversion of his gaze. "Okay, I get it. I'll back off."
You snort.
âThatâs right.â
"Y/N," Wanda says your name again like she's beckoning a regular canine to heed her call. You take a stern moment to watch the man back off into the crowd and likely to pounce his unwanted advances elsewhere. Finally, you acknowledge Wanda under the steered head of your eyes. Teeth clenched hard that your jaw visibly quirks with tension, you seethe at her, "What the fuck are you doing?"
Though she intends to make her case known, you do what you always do; you don't let her. Already you begin to drag her away and her heels dig with feral determination into the floor riddled with sticky spill stains and other grotesque mistakes of people's nightly lives. She tries - she really does to fight you off - but she can't. Your grip's too tight around her arm.
"I'm a grown woman, dog," she sneers. You bite back an offended whine and growl lowly.Â
"Grown woman my ass, sweetheart. You're acting like a rebellious teenager."
"And you," she says, her lashes flinching thinly, "are acting like a selfish, insecure and egotistical asshole!"
You turn to face Wanda, ready to face her down before Natasha swiftly moves in, already trying to pry your grip from Wanda. "Guys, we don't have time for thisâ"
Bullets spray around you and all you can do is follow instinct. Your body pivots sharply to cover both Wanda and Natasha, Steve and Sam already locked in combat with the agents.Â
Screams and chaos erupt in the club with civilians running in every direction.
"Get Wanda out of here!" Sam yells. He ducks quickly to avoid a wide swing before launching a jab upward into the agent's jaw, kicking his leg down on his thigh and then finally delivering a final punch that downs him.
It's not like you to turn tail and run but Natasha is already pulling at you, urging you and Wanda to follow her. And so you do. You grab hold of Wanda by her wrist and begin to drag her along with you, keeping her out of Hydra's direct line of fire. You begin to head towards the back exit, using the flight of stairs to the balcony above as cover from a blast of bullets with a sharp racket bouncing off the metal.Â
You pin Wanda to your front in order to shield her from any damage and for once in a long time, she let's you hold her closely.
Her body melts into you, clings to you. At least she isn't putting up much of a fight now that your very lives are threatened. "This way," Natasha says with urgency. A new scent hits your senses and before you know it, you're yanking hard on the back of Natasha's jacket, saving her barely from getting her body slammed into the wall by a battering ram.Â
Another Hydra agent, and a bulky sonofabitch at that, rams into the wall with a heaved grunt and you step out in front while Natasha takes your place in securing Wanda.
You'd much rather not turn here but the moment the agent turns and drives the battering ram into your ribs, you're on the cusp of ripping this man to shreds. The meaty crunch of your chest being brutally caved in causes Wanda to scream out to you and you flinch. You can tell that there's some internal damage there but you push through it. He takes another swing, higher this time but you wrench yourself back and out of reach. He swings once more and you do the same thing, keeping you between him and the girls and then you strike just as he prepares to ram the giant tool downward at you.Â
Beneath a curvy, deep growl, you grab hold of the battering ram and use it as a pole to pin the guy up to the wall by his chin, keeping him suspended in the air to let the girls pass. Your don't even give him the dignity of taking a bullet to the grave. instead forcing the metal tool to choke him, you force it and sharply angle his chin to expose his jugular and your fist has enough strength â enough rage behind it â that you gut the manâs very throat.Â
Your body rolls back and you just manage to catch your weight on the wall behind, a hand cradles against your ribcage where the dull sting is, each time your breath catches with a pained wince.
'have to push on.'
'have to keep... Wanda safe.'
That's good. Keep your mind sane, keep it occupied. The last thing you need is to give the media more reason to despise the Avengers because they couldn't put a leash on a wild animal. Because you couldn't keep control.
Natasha and Wanda have made it out to the alleyway, a haze of thick smog making for good cover until you get to the car. You take point in leading with Natasha covering behind you, her pistol out and aimed for the dark, looming mouth of the alleyway.
"C'mon," you growl, dragging Wanda out of the alleyway and sprinting for the car, only slowing halfway to ensure that the female assassin is not far behind. In the car, Natasha throws it into gear and speeds off down the street, avoiding the splash of bullets that rain after you.
"Guys, where are you? Is Wanda okay?" Steve is speaking over the comms and Natasha raises her fingers to the piece tucked in her ear. Her brows are pressed hard, glaring in concentration.
"She's safe. We've taken the car but our guys have wheels of their own."
Your eyes move from hers to the mirror the moment she says that, eyes wide and blinded by the bright haze of white light bouncing off the reflection. Several wheels it would seem.
Your eyes then catch Wanda's in the mirror. You see the tinge of fear in them, the watery seams of horror. Her regret. She's telling you with a single glance that you were right.
She should have listened to you.
"You've gotta be fucking kidding me..." you mumble, words rolling with a reverbed octave.Â
"Don't," Natasha warns. She's aware of what you're planning to do next. "Let Bucky handle them."
"Yeah, heâll be of great help when heâs fucking on their side!â Your growl causes Natasha to look into the rear view again more closely.Â
âShitâŠ,â you catch her mutter. You see a flicker of a shadow in the reflection and your eyes widen despite the light that hovers in the mirror. âWanda get downâ argh!â
The rear window shatters and Wanda yelps, covering her head and ducking behind the cover of the seats as something sharp and long penetrates through your seat and shoulder, ultimately pinning you in place.Â
Natasha swerves the car under the sudden duress, the tires screeching against the road with each aggressive turn she makes. The pointed spear that the Winter Soldier fired had a toxic tinge to its scent and you grumbled low under your huffing breath, âFucking⊠sil-silverâŠâ
âWhat?â Wanda gasped and Natasha curses under her breath. The spear point is slick with your blood, your hand slipping down it every time you try to grasp hold of it and try to rip it out. Even trying to break it off only caused the damn thing to twist and mince your flesh furthermore, your veins showing in the strain of your rage and agony.Â
âSam, Steve, we could really use your help here! I have to get Y/N and Wanda out of here, the wolfâs been injured. Silver.â
âGo! Weâll get them off your tails!â Sam says over the comms.Â
You grunt when your hand slips, pushing the spear against the muscle of your arm socket. âDonât,â Wanda warned, her voice dipped with a stern edge. âYou have any fucking ideas then?â you hiss back.Â
Wanda, with a steeled look of determination, raises herself to sit up and lifts her hands. The scarlet hue of her magic emits from her fingers like misted smoke, limbs of magical tendrils that await her command. âI have oneâŠâ
She spins and shoves her hands forward, the two lead cars that pursue you turn upwards suddenly, compelled by the force of her magic.Â
Their engines roar with ire and the metal of their bodies scratch and crumble against one another, combusting into a heap of flames. You scoff. âNice going, little witch. But that only solves one problem. The other being this fucking spearââ
Natasha rolls up to the safe house, the engine low and rumbly, overworked. âOkay. We ready?â
Your nose wrinkles and the bristle of your fur brushes against your skin underneath. âLetâs get this over withâŠâ
Natasha turns to look at Wanda who in turn sits there, reserved and glaring at you. When neither woman made no move to help you, you have to ignore the press of the metal embedded through your shoulder, hissing at them.Â
âFine. Iâll do it myself.â
This was going to hurt like a bitch. Your hands grip hold of the elongated metal pole and for a moment you finalise your grip, making sure it would come out swiftly and in one swift motion. It isnât as simple to pull it back through the way it came. Not with the arrowed head on it. No, you were going to have to pull it out the other way.Â
âThis night couldnât get any worse,â you growl and with a deep breath coursing through your nose, you pull. Wandaâs breath stifled in her lungs, coming out as a trembled gasp as her head snapped away, unable to watch. Natashaâs face contorted, grimacing from the sound of your pained yelp and the hollow puncture of the now gaping wound in your shoulder. Immediately your hand covers it as blood bubbles and trickles down your front.Â
With the spear prompt removed, you shift your way out of the passenger seat, hand gripping with a white knuckled hold to the door as your body slumps slightly against the car.
âCâmon, little witch.â
Wanda wasnât fond of the idea of sharing a safe house with you while Natasha ensured that Hydra hadnât followed you guys all the way out here. The safe house was secluded deep in the woods, perfect for laying low and your natural habitat. Youâd know if something was wrong simply by the way the leaves shifted.
Your strides were long to reach the front porch quicker, procuring the key and unlocking the house before you gesture for Wanda to walk inside before you, though the two of you shared neither a glance of appreciation nor care for the other.Â
You growl under your stiffened breath when she made an audible hum and cocked her head in a way that slashed her hair across your face.Â
With a final glance back at Natasha, she waved you off to usher you inside before she took off.Â
How fun it was to be locked up during a full moon⊠no really, it drove you fucking insane, you think to yourself as your back saddles against the door and lock it behind you. The stump of her heels clicks across the tiled floors.Â
It will be so fun spending the full moon locked up in a safe house⊠with the one woman who despises you after you told her that she couldnât have you.Â
âSo⊠here we are.â Her voice is cold. Venomous and bitter as her posture statures with a rigid pose.
âHere we are. And not a lot of time left for me⊠So how about it? â you say and your tone trails off into a low and dark drawl. Youâre a dead dog walking with this silver coursing through you as you speak. Time was of the essence and fuck, you were already feeling that familiar swell and the tight constriction of your pants around your cock.Â
You see the lines and curves of her exposed skin constrict with a certain tension.
That of prey being watched. By you.
That of being stalked. By you.
That of it being a full moon, and at risk of being fucked raw and hard one last time. By you.Â

âShall I fetch Maester Orwyle once we return to your chambers, Princess?â Your handmaiden, Edyth, questions as the two of you make your way up one of the many winding staircases in the Red Keep â each step making you wince.Â
âYes, please,â you sigh, ever grateful that she had always seemed to have a knack for predicting your requests before you had the chance to voice them, âPerhaps tell him to prepare some of the same soothing balm he gave to Helaena?âÂ
âOf course, Princess,â Edyth nods, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips, ever the optimist, âI believe it should help with your aches, I remember it seemed to help the Queen afterâŠâ She trails off, breath hitching in her throat.
A heavy silence seems to fall over the two of you, the same that had been blanketing the entirety of the palace for the past few days. You swallow thickly, battling against the lump suddenly growing at the back of your throat and merely nod your head in simple understanding, offering her a tight-lipped smile, âIâm sure it will be of great help, Edyth, thank you.âÂ
Ever since⊠it had happened, the Red Keep feels as if itâs made of eggshells, like one small gust of wind could knock it right over. Everyoneâs so on edge, terrified of saying too much or too little, the wrong thing at the wrong time. The stress of it all seems nearly suffocating, though you still have a feeling the worst was yet to come.Â
Suddenly, someone calls your name from behind you and you turn, smiling once you see your grandsire striding toward you.
âA raven arrived earlier from Gwayne,â Otto explains, deep voice carrying down the empty hallway, âHeâs reached Oldtown safely, everything seems to be well there.â
âOh, wonderful,â you nod, grateful for news of your husband.
âIndeed,â he continues, âDaeron seems to be in good spirits, happy to come home; theyâre to depart tomorrow, as scheduled⊠forgive me, I meant to tell you before supper but it seems to have slipped my mind.â
âEverything has been so hectic of late, please donât trouble yourself. He arrived safely and will be back all the sooner for it, that is what matters.â
âOf course,â Otto nods, glancing out a nearby window, âIf youâll excuse me, Iâve been ordered to attend to His Grace,â he says gruffly, a wry smile on his lips, nodding in the direction of Aegonâs chambers.
You nod at the mention of your twin, brows pinching together with worry. âBe⊠patient with him, grandsire, please,â you beseech, chest heaving with a soft sigh, âI spoke with him earlier this morning, heâs⊠well, heâs not himself.â
âAre any of us anymore, I wonder,â Otto mutters, fixing you with a tight smile before taking his leave, striding quickly down the hallway. Your brows furrow at that, you canât help but throw Edyth a questioning look before the two of you continue toward your chambers.Â
âSeven Hells,â you grumble, quickly bringing a hand to your breast as you climb another, blessedly shorter, set of stairs, âPerhaps check the nursery first, yes? Daena may be stirring stillâŠâ You know better, even as the words leave your lips.Â
Your daughter has finally begun sleeping soundly through the night recently and while that is cause for celebration, you certainly wonât miss the past eight moons of late night feedings, your poor breasts are paying the price â your body not yet caught up with the lessened need for milk.Â
âYes, Princess,â Edyth replies with a little nod, walking alongside you.
The two of you are almost at your chambers, finally turning onto the hallway where the family apartments are housed, when you hear it â a muffled, barely there cry. The sound makes you pause in your tracks, head swiveling, unsure of exactly where it came from and itâs then you notice that the door to Aemondâs chambers is ajar.Â
That in and of itself is strange indeed, your little brother valued privacy above all else, so you stride over only to pause at the entrance, hand poised midair as you reach for the door handle. Your heart clenches when another soft sob pierces the quiet of the hallway â a mournful little noise, one youâd expect more from Aegon.Â
Turning back to Edyth, you lead her a few feet from the door, knowing Aemond would hate it if he knew someone, anyone aside from you, had overheard him. âGo to the nursery,â you instruct, making sure to keep your voice low, âMake sure Daena is well, then youâre free for the evening.âÂ
âBut, princess, what about ââ
âNevermind it,â you murmur with a shake of your head, âIâll send for the maester later myself.â
With a nod, she scampers off further down the hallway, leaving you alone by your brotherâs door. Stepping back over toward the threshold, you bite at your bottom lip, wondering if you should go in at all â if it would be more merciful to simply pretend you hadnât heard anything at all.Â
But then it happens again, another pitiful sob sounds from beyond the cracked door and youâre unable to help yourself â Aemond had always come to you with his troubles when he was younger, surely now would be no different. With a little breath, you push the door open just enough to slip through it and thank whichever Gods may be listening when youâre able to press it closed with hardly a sound.Â
Peeking around the screen your brother has beside the door, it feels as if your heart shatters in your chest. He looks so⊠small, so fragile, the complete opposite of the towering, formidable man heâd become in recent years. Itâs clear he didnât hear you come in as he stays seated in a chair near the door, his back to you; his shoulders shake with gentle cries while he hunches over, head cradled in his hands.Â
The disarray of his normally spotless chambers startles you once you let your eyes flit over the space â papers are strewn about all across the low table he keeps in the little sitting area, some scattered across the floor, crumpled up, or ripped to pieces. His bedsheets are halfway ripped from the bed and lie in a pool at its foot, along with the remnants of a candle, now merely a translucent puddle on the dark stone floor.Â
Taking a step forward, you softly call his name, trying your hardest to keep your voice as low and soft as possible, though youâre hardly able to get the first syllable out before he bolts up from the chair with a strangled gasp and spins toward you.Â
âOh, Aem,â the words fall past your lips in a soft sigh, pulled from you by the startled expression on his face â eyes wide with the fear of being caught so vulnerable. His sapphire eye seems to sparkle with just as much emotion as his pale purple one.Â
âSister, I ââ He starts, hastily wiping his hands over his cheeks, chest heaving while he tries to calm his harsh breaths, but youâll have none of that.
âShh, whatever excuses you have, Iâll not hear them,â you murmur, quickly walking the few feet over to him and enveloping him in a tight embrace, just as you used to do when he would come crying to you about the tortures Aegon or your nephews put him through in their youth.
Your brother stays stiff in your arms for a moment, tense and wary, though he slowly relaxes as you rub a hand over his back, smoothing out his long hair. You yourself relax once he finally winds his long arms around you and rests his chin on your shoulder with a soft sigh, the tension in his shoulders finally releasing.Â
âTell me what distresses you so?â
âI⊠Jaeâ the boy,â he stammers, stumbling over his name. You understand, just saying your little nephewâs name seems to somehow make the pain of the loss even worse. Yet, something in your gut tells you thereâs something else going on, that Jaehaerysâs death is not the only thing causing your brother such anguish.
âAemondâŠâ you gently press, bringing a hand up to cup his cheek as you pull back just enough to meet his gaze, âI cannot help if you wonât tell meââ
âTell you what?â He counters, tone growing too defensive too quickly, âMy nephewâs death brings me sorrow, sister. The loss of a young child is a⊠distressing thing.â
âYou know thatâs not what I mean!â You counter, trying desperately to keep your voice calm, even when Aemond backs away from you with an exasperated sigh. Youâre no stranger to this game â ever since he lost his eye, your brother has guarded his emotions carefully. Getting him to speak honestly about them was about as hard as keeping a bottle of Dornish wine from Aegonâs grasp.Â
He gives you a sidelong glance as he paces about the room, lips pressed into a thin line, jaw clenched. Worry only blooms brighter in your chest the longer you watch him; so agitated and so guarded, closed off like an abused animal.Â
âIt⊠itâs nothing,â he mumbles finally, voice short and clipped, âNothing important, sister, I assure you.â
Unconsciously, you wring your hands worriedly, heart clenching; you want nothing more than to reach out and comfort him, yet you know from experience that it was better to let Aemond come to you.Â
âWell, surely it cannot be nothing if it has upset you so, sweetling.âÂ
His nervous pacing comes to a screeching halt at that and he squeezes his eye shut, fists clenched at his side â his whole body tense like heâs trying desperately to keep some invisible dam within himself closed.Â
You reach a hand up instinctively when he bites at his bottom lip and turns his head away from you, shoulders shaking with silent sobs. âIâ,â he croaks, the tightness in his voice makes your breath hitch in your throat; every maternal cell in your body is screaming at you, pleading with you to hold him, âI donât w-wish to burden you.â
âBaby brother,â you sigh, finally going to him, practically running the few feet over to where he stands. Your arms encircle him instantly, pulling him into a tight embrace â one hand rubs over his back while the other cups the back of his head, holding his face against the crook of your neck, âYou could never be a burden to me, never.â
That seems to break him and he gasps, breathing warm against your neck, before he finally lets go and his shoulders heave with sobs while his hands cling to you desperately, fisting into the fabric of your gown like heâs afraid youâll disappear. A tightness grows at the back of your own throat, not used to seeing him be this raw, this open, in what feels like lifetimes. It breaks your heart to think heâd been holding all of this in, determined to be the strong, silent soldier like everyone expected, while he dealt with such sadness all alone.Â
âShh, shh, Aemond, youâre okay,â you murmur gently, eyes widening when he sags against you, his knees giving way only for a second. âHere, come,â you instruct, taking one of his hands in yours and leading him to the small seating area in his chambers. You urge him to sit on the sofa he has there before joining him yourself, a bit surprised when he all but throws himself against you again â practically laying his head in your lap as he sobs, cheek pressed against your chest in a way that makes you wince from the tenderness still there, not that youâd ever scold him for it.Â
âThere, thatâs much better, hm? Comfortable?â You ask, simply trying to draw him back to the surface.Â
He doesnât reply, something that doesnât really come as a shock to you given how harsh his cries are, leaving him breathless against you. Deciding to let him get it out, you stay quiet, merely shushing him every so often as you run your fingers through his pearlescent hair.
After a long while, he seems to settle some and tears begin running down his cheeks silently rather than racking his body with savage cries; he lifts his head from your lap and rests it instead against your shoulder, gazing up at you as if youâre an angel sent from the heavens themselves. The intense tenderness with which he looks at you makes you blush, yet your brows furrow slightly at the darkness still there â lingering in the lilac of his eye.Â
âI have⊠I have done something terrible.â
Your brother's murmured confession only serves to confuse you further and you shake your head slightly, heart clenching in your chest as you silently wonder what in all the Seven Kingdoms he could possibly mean by that.Â
âAemond,â you start, knowing not to pry â to let him tell you, âThere is nothing you could ever do that would make me think any less of you.â
He stares up at you for a long moment, eye flicking across your face like heâs checking for even the barest hint of deception, yet he finds none ïżœïżœïżœ your words are true.Â
âYou⊠promise me you will not hate me.â
âI promise, sweet brother,â your brows pinch together at his words, wondering what could possibly be bad enough for all this, yet you canât stop the corners of your lips from quirking into a sad smile at his request; that uncertain lilt in his voice reminds you so much of when he was younger, âThereâs nothing you could do that would make me hate you. Nothing.â
âIâŠâ He starts, pulling away from you as he sits up, sparing you one last glance before staring off into the fireplace, âI am the⊠the reason Jaehaerys is dead.â
âWhat?â The word is pressed from you, leaving your lips as little more than a breath. You stare at him as if heâd sprouted a second head, utterly perplexed. How in the Seven Hells could he have ever arrived at that conclusion? Taking one of his hands in yours, you lean a little closer, âSweetling, what in the world do you mean?â
âThey were here for me,â Aemond rasps, wincing as if the words themselves are painful, clawing at his throat on their way out, âThey were⊠Gods, they were sent for me and â and when they couldnât find me, they⊠H-He died because I was not here, because they could not f-find meâŠâ
âOh, my love,â you sigh, the backs of your eyes stinging as he presses himself against you again, tucking his head into the crook of your neck, âAemond, you couldnât have known, none of us did. You couldnât have knownâŠâ You repeat, like saying the words again and again will make him believe them.Â
âI s-should have,â he whimpers, voice breaking over a sob, âI shouldâve k-known, I shâshouldâve been hereâŠâ
You hold him tightly, practically hauling him onto your lap as his tears leak over your skin, running into the valley of your cleavage like a river, though you pay it no mind. âShh, sweetling, shh,â you murmur and press a soft kiss to his forehead, âItâs not your fault, dear one, itâs no oneâs fault but the vile men who took him and our⊠our coward of a sister who ordered it done.â
He stays silent for a moment and you can feel the gears in his brain turning, working furiously as he tries to internalize your words, wanting desperately to believe them but unable to let himself. You sigh softly when you feel him shake his head against you, so determined to cling to guilt.Â
âIf⊠if I had n-not been at theâŠâÂ
âAt the where, brother?â You press, clinging to anything you may be able to use to shift the conversation.Â
â...The brothelâŠâ he mumbles after a long pause, the words so muffled against the column of your neck that you have to strain to hear them. His words shock you, the complete opposite of anything youâd been expecting. You try your hardest not to let that show, even as a strange sense of jealousy wells up within you â a sense of possessiveness youâve always felt for your little brother.
âWell, you⊠you are a man grown, my love,â you heart hammers in your chest, loud enough that you wonder if he can hear it, âIf you wish to lay withââ
âI didnât⊠Iââ He stammers, clinging to you tightly as he shakes his head, an urgency in his voice you canât quite place, âThatâs not what, I⊠I mean, Iââ
âNo matter,â you cut him off, aching to see him so distressed, âWhatever you do there, sweet brother, itâs your⊠right to do it.â You struggle to get the words out, the sense of protectiveness rising viciously in your chest makes your throat feel tight.Â
He lifts his head from your shoulder again and eyes you for a long moment â for what, you arenât sure. Itâs almost like heâs surprised not to be meant with disgust or contempt; you wish you knew why.
âIt doesnât matter,â he finally mumbles, glancing away from you, ashamed, âI shouldâve been home⊠I shouldâve been here to protect my family.â
âAemond, please,â you sigh and sit up slightly, moving to cup his cheeks in your hands, wiping at his tears with your thumb, âIt is not your job to protect us, we have guards for a reason⊠if anything, this atrocity is their fault but it is not yours, do you understand?â Your eyes bore into his as you speak, desperate to make him understand, to rid him of this misplaced guilt.Â
âDo⊠do you still love me?â He asks after a long moment, voice so timid, so meek like heâs already preparing himself for your rejection, that it makes your heart twist horribly in your chest.Â
Still, you cannot help but huff out a little laugh, lips lifting into a sad smile at the utter ridiculousness of the question. âYou are my dearest brother,â you murmur, leaning forward to press a kiss against his forehead, letting your lips linger on his skin for a second, âOf course, I still love you, Aemond. I have loved you from the moment you came into this world and I shall never, never stop â the Gods themselves could not make me.â
The two of you are quiet for a moment, save for a small hum from your brother as he nods. His arms encircle you again and selfishly, you enjoy it â being this close to him again, like he was a little boy once more. Heâd been all but attached to you at the hip before that dreadful night, following you about the Keep and telling you all sorts of tales about various histories of the Realm in that sweet voice of his.Â
All of that had stopped that night and, at first, you had assumed that he merely thought himself a man grown afterwards â a man who had finally claimed a dragon, a man who no longer needed comfort from an older sibling. The sadness in his voice when he speaks again, muffled against your shoulder, tells you otherwise.
âMother doesnât love me anymore,â his voice is flat and detached as he breathes out the words, like heâs informing you of some tragic, unavoidable accident.Â
âAem, of course she does. She loves you veryââ
âNo,â he cuts you off, sitting up once more and shaking his head, âEver since that business with Luke, I⊠she can hardly bring herself to look at me. She wonât speak to me outside of Small Council meetings and even then she tries not to, âtis plain to see.â
You open your mouth to say something, anything, but nothing comes, leaving you to swallow around the lump that grows at the back of your throat once again. What are you to say? Heâs⊠Gods, bless him, heâs right, youâve seen as much to know.Â
âYou are the only one who has never abandoned me,â he starts, eye sparkling in the candlelight as tears begin welling up within it once more, âEveryone else has left.â
âThatâs notâŠâ Your voice fades as you sigh, knowing that arguing with him now will do no good. Instead, you simply hold him tighter and brush a few stray locks of hair from his face. âI can promise that I shall never leave you, sweet brother.â
He grows quiet for a moment, slumping down against you until his head rests in your lap and his body curls up onto the sofa. Silently, you resist the urge to cradle him, to hold him against you as you do Daena when she wakes from a nap with a start, crying out from her cradle.Â
He is a grown man, you remind yourself, yet it does nothing to stop the strange ache in your heart.Â
âThey all used to taunt me, surely you remember, when we were younger,â he mumbles, eye fixated on the fire crackling in the hearth, even as he clings to you, âFirst for not having a dragon, then for not having an eye.â
You hum in affirmation â you do remember it, sadly. You remember it all very well; he had slept in your chambers for a week after the incident with the pig, not wanting to be left alone at night with the memories of it. You remember having to hold him back at the table when Aegon had poked fun at his eyepatch during supper, about a month after his eye had been gouged out.Â
You remember that night too, when heâd come to you with tearful apologies, murmuring sorries again and again for accidentally nicking your hand while trying to brandish a knife against his brother.Â
âI have always been an outcast.â
A smile tugs at the corners of your lips despite the circumstances and you sigh softly, brushing your fingers through his long strands of hair, âI quite like you being different⊠perhaps if you werenât, we wouldnât be as close, hm?â
Aemond goes quiet at that, stills in your lap with a little sigh before simply burrowing against you even more, curling in on himself tighter.Â
A soft coo leaves your lips, strands of his long hair passing between your fingers like silk. âWhat say you stay with me tonight, yes?â You offer, the thought of him in the dark carrying all this alone grief makes you feel ill, âWe could even cuddle, if you like? Just as we did when you were younger.â
A short beat of silence later, all you get is a little, âYes, please,â mumbled against your abdomen.Â
âI donât deserve you,â he murmurs later, the two of you finally lying together atop your bed, cuddled closely against one another just as youâd promised. Youâd each taken time to get ready for bed and Aemond seems a little better for it, no longer as distressed and teary now that heâs had the time to collect himself.Â
Your hand carefully cups the side of his face that isnât pressed against your pillow, that isnât buried in the crook of your neck, as an astonished huff of laughter escapes your lips as they curve into a sad smile, your brows furrowed. âWhy in the world would you think such things?â Even as the question is whispered into the quiet of your chambers, you know the answer â Aemond has always been this way, always one to reject comfort, even when it is so freely given, even when he himself seeks it out.Â
If only he could see himself as you do.Â
âI⊠I have done so many shameful things, sister, IâŠâ His voice breaks when he cuts himself off and you can feel him tense in your hold, ââTis the simple truth, I donât deserve you.â
You hum softly, combing your fingers through his hair while you mull over his words, silently wondering why he has always been like this â why you have always felt so unworthy of softness and kindness and love.Â
âWell, it is not my truth,â you murmur after a moment, eyes flicking over the long line of his body, hidden by your silken bedsheets. In the time each of you had taken to ready yourselves for bed, you had changed into a nightgown and he into a simple nightshirt, leaving your bare legs to tangle together, âWould you like to know what I think, my love?â
You feel him inhale against the crook of your neck, sucking in air like heâs steeling himself for disappointment, yet he still lifts his head and peers up at you. His lilac eye searches your face for a long moment, looking for even the smallest indication of displeasure in your features, only to find none.Â
Seemingly satisfied with his assessment, assured that surely whatever you were to say would not hurt him too badly, he nods.Â
Sitting up just enough to better see his face, you look at him with nothing but adoration as the two of you rest shoulder to shoulder, backs against the headboard. âI believe you deserve every kindness in the world, Aemond. And I believe even that would be too little,â your voice is hardly a whisper when you speak, like this is the deepest of secrets meant only for his ears, âYou deserve nothing but happiness, sweet baby brother.â
He stares at you for a long moment, eye wide and glassy while his chest aches as your words seep into him like a soothing balm. You can see his Adamâs apple bob in his throat as he swallows, eye squeezing shut for a moment while he processes your words â so sweet they nearly stung.Â
A soft coo bubbles from your lips when you see his chest rise and fall rapidly beneath the linen of his nightshirt, and you lean into him all the more when one of his hands reaches out and grabs one of your own, squeezing it like itâs a lifeline.Â
âShh,â you soothe, giving him a sad smile when his eye finally opens again, gaze immediately finding yours, âSweet boy.â
He lets out a shuddering breath before looking away from you once again, mind reeling. Not knowing what to do, overcome with so much emotion his heart feels as if itâs adrift at sea, he brings your hand up and presses a soft kiss against your knuckles before holding it to his cheek and sucking in another little breath as his bottom lip trembles. âPlease donât ever leave me,â he whispers finally, voice tight and hoarse.Â
Cupping his face, you caress your thumb over the scar beneath his eye softly and lean over just enough to press a soft kiss against his cheek. âI will never leave you, Aemond, I swear it.â
He shudders once more before letting out a shaky breath, eye filled with a wild desperation. Before you can register the movement, his hands are suddenly gripping at your waist and hauling you onto his lap, your legs on either side of his, as he buries his face into the crook of your neck once more, apologies already muffled against your skin. âI-Iâm sorry, I â Gwayne will⊠will hate me but ââ
âShh, sh, sh, sweetling,â you murmur, despite the small, barely audible gasp that leaves you at the sudden movement, so wholly unused to this as half of you tries desperately to comfort you while the other half wonders if you should put a stop to this, âGwayne knows, my love, he⊠itâs okay, he knows.â
A sob is wrenched from Aemondâs lips, warm against your neck, but he nods nonetheless, sighing when you begin carding your fingers through his hair once more, smoothing out the long, pale strands. Slowly, he relaxes again, arms wound securely around your waist while his breath evens out.Â
Youâre about to say something else, though your breath hitches in your throat when he begins peppering your neck with soft, chaste little kisses â feather-light down the column of your neck. He stops after a second, noticing you tense up on his lap, eyes wide as a million thoughts swirl in your mind: Is this okay? Should you stop this? This is your precious baby brother, the one who used to cling to your skirts when he was sad, who used to come to you in the night when he woke from a nightmareâŠÂ
He leans forward once more and nips at your earlobe, making your heart stutter in your chest, âCan⊠can I try something?â
Your head reels at the sudden change in his touches, needier now, though for an entirely different reason, yet still your mind reels â piqued with curiosity. âWhat is it you wish to try?â You question after a moment, voice scratchy from the sudden dryness at the back of your throat.Â
Silently, Aemond relishes this; something about you, you his normally strong and carefree older sister, being this flustered because of him makes his heart flutter in his chest. Dipping his head, he resumes pressing soft kisses against your skin, though they linger now â teeth nipping before he soothes the small bites with a swipe of his tongue, drawing ever closer to the pulse point in your neck that beats so wildly he can feel it beneath your skin.Â
âAemond!â You all but wheeze when he suddenly grabs at your hips, his own firmly bucking up against you. A shock goes down your spine at the evidence of his arousal pressing against you, two thin layers of fabric doing precious little to mask the feel of it. Again, you tense up, practically jumping out of your skin as you pull back just enough to gaze down at him, your eyes wide, blinking rapidly, as they search his.Â
This was the last thing you expected tonight, the last thing youâd expect from him at all. âWha â IâŠâ You stammer, dumbstruck while worry and uncertainty cloud your mind.Â
Aemond shushes you now, long fingers squeezing at your bare thighs now that your nightgown has ridden up enough to reveal them. âItâs alright, itâs alright,â he murmurs, rubbing his thumbs soothingly against your skin, âDo you trust meâŠ?â
Your throat bobs as you swallow thickly, heart hammering in your chest. You should be the one comforting him⊠what in the Seven Hells has happened? Is⊠is this the comfort he needs now?
Even still, you nod your head at his question; of course you trust him, youâd trust him with anything⊠even this.Â
A smile grows on his lips when you acquiesce, a pleased glimmer in his eye when he lifts his hands to your hips again, his grip firmer this time. âGood⊠good, sweet sister,â he hums lowly, rutting his hips up against you once more, lilac eye watching you with keen interest.Â
âA-AemâŠâ You gasp once more, the feel of him against you so intense it sends a shiver down your spine, even when your brows furrow as your eyes flutter, threatening to slip shut. His movements press a small whimper from your lips and you can feel the sting in your cheeks as they flush, chest heaving while your hands grab tightly at his shoulders.Â
The smug look on his face slowly morphs into one of wonder and his eye flits over your face greedily, like he doesnât want to miss a single second of seeing you like this â already so strung out over him.Â
He moves again, the feeling of your soft core pressing against his growing length through the thin linen only serving to drive his urges further. âGods, you look so beautiful like thisâŠâ He murmurs, in awe at having you like this, and all to himself. Unable to help himself, he leans forward yet again and pulls you closer as his lips settle once more against your neck.Â
Instinctually, your head tilts to the side, giving him room to kiss over your skin. His movements against you cause you to shiver in his grasp, even if a small part of you was still uncertain, hoping this wouldnât change your relationship with him for the worse.Â
The slow grind of his hips causes his nightshirt to eventually ride up his legs as well, and you gasp anew, jumping once more when his length suddenly presses against your center, unhindered by fabric.Â
âFeel what you do to me?â He purrs, letting out a low groan of his own.Â
For a moment, all you can do is stare at him, lips parted ever so slightly while your chest heaves, silently wondering if this is truly happening. Almost imperceptibly, you nod your head, shuddering at the feeling of his cock pressed against you, already twitching.Â
âL-Little brother,â you gasp, breathless already.
Aemond smirks at your response, your whimpers and soft gasps going right to his head. He grabs at your waist still, bucking against you in slow, almost teasing movements. A low, pleased hum vibrates him in his chest when he feels how wet you are against him â the heat radiating from your center nearly stifling.Â
The longer this goes on, the more you can feel your resolve crumbling, any small bits left of you that wanted to put a stop to this slowly fading away. Distantly, you canât help wondering if this is how itâs always been meant to be, if this was the only logical conclusion your paths could reach, the outcome of such a close bond. Perhaps, you have always been made for this.Â
âAemond,â his name falls from your lips in a soft sigh and you finally lean against him heavily, pressing your chest against his unthinkingly. âShit!â You gasp only a second later, jolting as if stung by a bee, brought back to reality by the ache in your breasts.Â
âSister?â Aemond questions, freezing beneath you while he looks over your face, his hands rising to cup your cheeks protectively.Â
You start to answer, to explain, when you feel a sudden tingling sensation at your chest and, judging from the look on your brotherâs face, an explanation would be a moot point by now anyway.
âGods grant me mercy,â he sighs, eye wider than youâve ever seen it as he stares, near open-mouthed, at your chest. Glancing down, your cheeks flush at the sight of milk dampening the linen at your breasts, leaving it all but translucent.Â
Again, you go to explain, only to stop yourself in your tracks when his tongue darts out, licking over his bottom lip. Your head spins when you notice his chest heaving as he stares at you with a nearly savage hunger, eyes fixed on your breasts like his universe has been narrowed down to a pinpoint.Â
âAemond?â
âPlease,â he groans, swallowing thickly and licking over his lips once more, practically salivating. His eye flicks up to yours for only the briefest of seconds before zeroing in on your chest once more, âSweet⊠sweet sister, please.â
Again, the energy in the room seems to shift, Aemond once again begging you for comfort, bowing to your whims. Quickly, you shush him while one hand threads into his hair once more as you bring his head back against the crook of your neck, settling him there while he groans against your skin, rough hands slowly trailing up your waist before halting at your ribs.Â
Your other hand busies itself with snaking between the two of you and impatiently batting your clothes away before your fingers finally curl around his length, causing the both of you to let out soft cries.Â
âShh, sweetling,â you coo, chest heaving while you position him at your entrance, sighing as he desperately mouths at your neck, âI know what you need, Iâve got you.â
Again, twin moans fill your dimly lit chambers when you slowly sink down on him. Whimpers are punched from your lungs at the feel of him steadily filling you, his chest rumbling against yours as he groans deeply, hips jolting beneath you.Â
âGods,â you sigh when your hips are finally pressed tightly against his once more, panting and letting your eyes fall shut while you give yourself a moment to adjust.Â
The feel of him borders on overwhelming â pressed so tightly inside of you, around you, the very air in your room filled with the heady, herbaceous scent of the bath oils you know he favors. You imagine he must feel the same as he trembles beneath you, fingers and hips twitching with barely contained desire.Â
Finally, your need to comfort him, to protect him even from himself, rears its head again and you relish the breathy sigh that leaves him as you begin to move your hips. Itâs a grinding motion, soft and gentle â what he needs now, to be treated with care. Still, the movements send shockwaves up your spine as the pale hairs at the base of his cock rub perfectly against your pearl, creating a delicious friction to spur you on.Â
âSo good,â he breathes, warm against your shoulder as he leans forward, kissing at your neck, âYou feel so good, sister, you⊠you are s-so good to meâŠâ
âJust as you deserve,â you murmur, combing your fingers through his long hair once more before your hands travel down to the hem of his nightshirt and you begin impatiently tugging at it, pulling it over his head and grinning at the soft, nearly petulant, whine he gives at having to separate from you even for a second.Â
Still, some instinctual force seems to drive you, a need to feel his skin against your own, and you waste no time before pulling your own nightgown up and over your head as well, leaving nothing to separate the two of you.Â
The groan that leaves him when your chest presses back against his own once more is like nothing youâve heard before â a sound of the purest relief, like heâs found some oasis in the desert. His eye opens again and the rhythm of your hips stutters only for a second once it finds yours. The lilac is almost completely overtaken by black and yet, he still regards you as if you are an angel sent from the heavens themselves, stares at you with such reverence that your heart flutters in your chest.Â
Something clicks for you then as he whimpers beneath you, his own hips beginning to buck up against your own as the lazy tempo youâve settled into slowly starts to pick up. You understand, now, that this is merely another step, an added turn, in the so carefully balanced dance the two of you have constructed.
And if this is what he needs to be comforted, then youâre more than happy to give it.Â
âMy good boy,â sigh, moving against him with renewed vigor, grinning when he lets out a hitched moan, âIs this what you needed?â
âYes, y-yes,â he nods, his eye never leaving your own as he ruts beneath you, the choppy movements only adding to the fire slowly building within your veins, âPlease, sweet sister, pleaseâŠâ
You donât need to ask to know what it is he means, nodding before he has time to stutter out another word, âTake what you need, my love.â
Another breathy groan sounds from him as he quickly descends onto your chest, tilting his head down and immediately capturing your sensitive nipple between his lips, one hand coming up to gently cup your breast, holding it steady. The feeling of relief that flows through you when he starts suckling is nearly disorienting, the dull ache in your breast slowly fading away with each mouthful of milk he pulls from you, greedily taking a few mouthfuls from one breast before switching to the other.
Your fingers stay anchored in his hair while your hips work against him, your high building more steadily within you now that your breasts no longer feel ready to burst. You pant as you gaze down at him, eyes half-lidded while you watch his lips move against you, lilac eye still fixated on you.Â
Below you, Aemond is halfway convinced heâs died and somehow the Gods have seen fit to spare him the Seven Hells. His head spins as he drinks from you, the taste of you by far the sweetest, most decadent thing he could fathom. As the knot in his belly grows ever-tighter, his suckles become more greedy, frantic, not knowing whether youâll allow him this pleasure ever again.Â
âPlease, f-fuck,â he sighs, the words punched from his lips as he pulls away from you just enough to speak, uncaring as dribbles of milk leak from the corners of his lips, staining your skin. His hips practically move on their own accord as he mindlessly grinds up into you, seeking out the warmth and safety he knows he shall only ever feel within you.Â
Above him, you nod, swallowing thickly against the dryness at the back of your throat, cheeks flushed while you watch him unravel. Snaking a hand between your bodies once more, your fingers quickly find your sensitive, aching bud and rubbing at it with a practiced precision.Â
âGods, sweet little brother,â you breathe out, pleasure zapping down your spine. You frantically nod again, frantic this time, just as your high washes over you, âCome, Aemond⊠Gods, let go, little one.â
His suckles turn more into little biting nips while he gasps against you, trembling beneath you when he finally lets pleasure overtake him â eye squeezing shut at the feel of your walls clenching tightly around his cock.Â
The warmth of him filling you only spurs you on more, your breaths ragged against his forehead while you feel yourself tense and relax again and again, grabbing at whatever parts of him you can reach.Â
You each go still after a few moments, panting against each other. Aemond is practically limp beneath you, lazily nuzzling his face against your chest, satiated smile just barely tugging at the corners of his lips. Chuckling softly, you pepper his forehead in sweet kisses, relishing the contented hum he gives in return.Â
When you go to get up however, intent on fetching a cloth to clean you both up with, he reaches for you with a small whine as he grabs at your thighs.
âDonât, please,â he murmurs, brows furrowed when your eyes meet, âStayâŠâ
âYou⊠you want to stay like this?â You question, your heartbeat quickening as he quickly nods, âYou wish to stay ââ
âInside,â he finishes quickly, Adamâs apple bobbing when he swallows bashfully, cheeks flushed, âI⊠I feel safe like⊠like this.â
âThen you can stay, silly boy,â you answer with a grin, kissing at his forehead once more, âHere, letâs justâŠâ You murmur, tilting your hips to the side ever so slightly, attempting to pull him with you.
Blessedly, he seems to understand and follows you willingly, allowing you to maneuver the two of you onto your sides. After a moment, youâre comfortable once more, each of you lying on your side and facing the other, one of your legs slung over his narrow hips to keep him pressed tightly within you.Â
âGood boy,â you sigh softly, smiling when he shivers against you.Â
The two of you stay like that for a while, your hands gently caressing his soft skin or running through his hair while you hold him against you. After a while, his lilac eye finally flutters closed and you canât help but marvel at how much younger he looks like this â relaxed and spent while he lies against you, like the weight of the world has been lifted from his shoulders.Â
After a while, he seems to grow restless again, nosing at your chest until he finds what he desires. You sigh softly as he pulls a nipple into his mouth once more, suckling at it contentedly while he peers up at you sleepily.Â
âThere you go,â you murmur soothingly, coaxing him to lift his head just enough for you to lay an arm beneath it, allowing you to caress his shoulders while your other hand cups gently at the side of his face, thumb sweeping over his soft skin. âTake what you need, sweet one,â you coo, smiling as he quickly returns his lips to your breast, âYouâre safe, Iâve got youâŠâ

Lungs burning in your chest with the humid Texas heat, you forced the corn stalks aside as you stumbled through them in a frantic sprint. Each leathery pod whacked against your shoulders, your hands, your chest, and your bruised-up legs, but you wouldn't stop for nothing.
You couldn't stop. The people you'd hitchhiked with were all dead, or at least very well on their way to being soâthey had been hunted one by one, by bear traps and shotguns and hay hooks, and you were sure you were the only one the family were left hunting. It'd taken all night to spread you thin and weaken you all with sadistic tortures of every kind. Now your group was down to one. You. Hauling ass was not enough to describe how frantically you were tumbling through the crop field, practically hand-over-foot crawling with how dizzy you'd gotten. Blood loss and a few hits to the head would do that to you.
Finally, the maize parted one last time to spit you out into the dewy grass, the labyrinth of sameness finally coming to an end. But when you tilted your head up to the starry night sky, your heart dropped into your feet at what laid before you. The farmhouse. You'd run in the wrong direction. Warm light glowed from within the drapery behind the windows and you spotted the older woman standing on the porch, a rag tucked between her hands as she called out a name. Terrified and hoping for the blessing of going unseen you army crawled your way right back to the cornâ
Thunk. Only halfway there, the grass split with the force of a sledgehammer dropping into it. A boot stepped into view right by your head; attached to it was an enormous calf, and your eyes trailed upwards slowly to reveal the whole of that crazed maniac you'd seen manhandling the others into that house of horrors across the lawn.
Greasy hair hung down in long tresses, wary eyes pierced into your skull, an apron sat snug around his midriff stained with dark blood. Up close, you could listen to the way he breathed heavy through the mask that obscured his lower jaw, only the bridge of his nose and his forehead visible through it. He stunk of sweat, rot, and fresh meat. His weighty hand tightened round the handle of the hammer he'd set down, veins popping out with the sheer size and strength of his enormous, hulking body.
âTommy!â The woman's voice cracked out in the night, the name finally ringing clear enough for you to hear. His head whipped around to the source and he stared in her direction; you watched her turn a blind eye to your predicament in the grass and step back inside the house. It felt as though your heart might burst in that moment, the fear and tension running through you like a taut wire about to snap in two.
The giant grunted overhead. You looked back at him again and squeezed your fists against the dirt, expecting him to lift that hammer and crush your skull into the ground with it. But upon resting his palm on the blunt end of it, the monster instead used it to lower himself to one knee. With a hand outstretched, he slowly, carefully brushed your damp hair aside, and pressed his fingertips firmly into your cheek. You shuddered as they moved downwards, probing around the soft spot beneath your ear and the curve of your jaw. He tilted your chin back and slid his whole, grubby hand down your neckâŠand with the most tentative squeeze around your throat, you swallowed and he all but jumped back. Your skin ran cool again as his warm hand ripped away from you, but with just as much hesitation he grazed your lips with his knuckles and trailed them across your forehead, leaving smudges of wet blood behind.
âTommy!â A harsher voice tore through the quiet night, yanking his attention away from you again. The sheriffâthe fake sheriff, that isâcame stomping up from around the back of the barn, the shotgun hanging at his side causing you enough panic to scramble to your knees. But you wouldn't get far. Not even a couple feet. Your body hit the earth within moments of you climbing to your feet, and you heaved out a pained moan at the mountain of weight that pinned you down and crushed you underneath him. The giant had thrown himself forward and taken you down without thinking twice; his beefy arm came around your neck and tightened, his muscles flexing under the coarse fabric of his shirt for him to hold you in place.
âAttaboy, Tommy.â The older man came around his side as you struggled, clawing at the bicep that was crushing your windpipe with barely any effort. The sheriff kicked your flailing leg with a holler, cackling at the way you squirmed under his nephew's brute strength. âStupid bitch. Gonna learn your lesson now, aint'cha?â
Dying squeaks for mercy escaped your throat, your words barely tinged with any discernible syllables. Thomasâ grip only grew tighter. Your arms went slack, then your legs slowed to a trembling haltâŠand before long your head slumped forward as you passed into unconsciousness, hoping to god this would be the last time you woke up in this sweltering Texas hell.
Clink. Clink. Clink. The chatter of voices melted into the gentle clatter of silverware. It wasn't the sounds that stirred you from your sleep rife with nightmares, thoughâit was the sliver of a sunbeam cast through the window that shone gently on your face. You blinked blearily as your head lolled in a stuttered circle, slowly and quietly coming to. Clink. Clack. Eyelids cracked half-open, you raised your head up despite the weight of a pounding headache, and watched a pair of wrinkled hands set down a teacup on a saucer in front of you.
Although there was much to see, you instantly turned your gaze to the woman you'd seen on the porch. Your nerves jittered and you flinched as she reached out to touch you, but it passed with her gentle shushing as she tenderly caressed your cheek. The age showed in creases all across her face, her eyes soft but wet with something terribly uneasy behind them.
âSuch a pretty girl,â She crooned, a smile like nothing had happened plastered across her face. The eagerness with which she watched you unsettled you to your very core, but it would be second to the nightmare that was waiting to explode on you across the table. âI always wanted a little girl. Never seen one so pretty.â Despite the sweetness of her words, a shift of your hand rattled the chair you'd been tied to; both wrists buckled under the tough ropes used to bind you, indented where you could see dry blood crusted over the fibers. Either you moved a lot in your sleep, or someone really wanted to punish you for trying to get away.
As tenderly as if she was your own mother, the lady brought your teacup up and tilted it for you to drink, which gave you a moment to let your eyes wander. With a glance around you took a mental sweep of the place. Your chair sat at the end of a dining table, and aside from the woman you spotted two other older men; the frightening man with the shotgun, and an elderly man in a wheelchair. Framed photos hung around the room against peeling wallpaper, and aside from a decent amount of clutter and antique decorations of a house long lived in, nothing struck you as out of the ordinary from the cutlery to the frayed rug that cushioned your bare feet.
The aging woman tottered around the table to pick up a plate and slid a few eggs on from a saucepan in the middle. That and a few strips of bacon made their way down to your placemat, still sizzling.
âWhy're you givinâ this bitch special treatment, mama?â The fake sheriff glared you down from his seat at the head of the table, spitting off to the side with his hands still clasped in front of him. âAlready got enough mouths to feed.â
âHush.â She finally snapped, and gestured with the spatula still in hand. âThis is your fault. You wanna play sheriff so bad, Charlie.â
âIt's Hoyt, mama, for god's sake!â
âDon't you cuss at me!â The old woman warned, aiming the spatula right at his chest.
âU-Um,â You whimpered softly, and drew the attention of all three of the frightening strangers, who turned their heads in your direction. The focus on you made you falter, but the problem at hand was far more pressing than fear. âTh-The ropeâŠplease..â You managed to squeak out, and only then did they seem to notice your hands were changing colours. They were so tight the blood wasn't circulating, and you feared even a few moments more of the ache would result in something very unpleasant in the near future, especially when you knew there was a chainsaw floating around here somewhere.
Just then, the floorboards creaked at your back. Too afraid to turn your head you only shifted your gaze, and in your peripheral you saw it. Two thick, fat-fingered hands reaching downwards to tug at the binds round your wrist. For someone so huge, he made short work of untying you even without the aid of one of the knives scattered round the table settings. The rope loosened and dropped to the floor in a coil like a dead snake, but as he reached over you to undo the otherâand you got a whiff of soap amidst his sweat in the processâthe man naming himself Hoyt grumbled and slammed his fist down on the table, rattling the plates and silverware.
âGoddammit, boyâwhat'd I say? We ain't keepinâ her, for Christ sakes!â
âWatch your mouth!â The womanâmamaâshrieked, and her fist shook as she dumped the spatula down on the table with a thunk. The other cuff came loose and you released a sigh of relief as you touched your wrists, wincing at the open cuts that had only half dried over. And while the two continued to bicker about one thing or another, a great shifting of clothes and a thump beside you caught your gaze. Thomas, the giant that you'd watched haul the others off to the slaughter, had knelt down by your chair like a dog and still came up to eye level. God, he was just massive. Somehow it made him less intimidating though, since he looked at you like he was waiting for scraps from your plate. It was somewhat pathetic, butâŠendearing? Was that a word you could even consider using for a maniac like him, or was it beyond all common logic to even think of him in such pleasant terms?
âA-Are youâŠhungry?â You whispered, only to be met with a slow shake of his head. Thomas raised a melon-sized arm and pushed the plate closer to you, as if to say âeat up, it's getting coldâ. Emboldened by his tender gesture, you shakily plucked your fork off the placemat and leaned in to examine the bacon. It looked likeâŠbacon. Hot, crunchy, cut in strips like you would see any day in the supermarket. Still, you tentatively went for the eggs first, and raised the tiniest bit to your mouth as the two older ones finally managed to settle down whatever argument they'd been having.
âBoys, time to say grace.â Suddenly flushed hot with embarrassment, you lowered your fork in an instant and followed their lead. You bowed your head with them, listened to mama say her standard prayers of thanksâand then, when everyone else began to eat, you cautiously lifted the bite to your lips and chewed thoughtfully. It felt like forever for you to discern whether or not it was normal, if it tasted like it should, but after a while of chewing you had to relent to the fact that it didn't taste abnormal, so it was about as fine as you could expect. You ate in silence alongside them, but just when you pondered whether the food might be drugged or other awful possibilities, the sheriff cleared his throat and drew your attention to him once again.
âNow,â Mama scowled at him, but he continued to speak nonetheless. âYou got two options here, kid: eat, or be eaten. Them's the laws of life.â He reached up and scratched the back of his neck, readying himself to say more, but an interruption came with a grunt from your side. Hoyt raised a hand and waved the wordless concern off. âDon't you mouth off, boy. Gettinâ to it.â
You shifted your gaze to Thomas, who only nudged your plate closer to you to urge you into eating more. Something gnawed at the back of your mind. Their behavior was so strange, the looks exchanged even strangerâthere was something that wasn't being said, like a plan was brewing right under your nose.
âSee here, this is how it is. You got choices. Now, my nephew here happens to like you,â His honeyed southern drawl couldn't hope to mask the hopelessness that stirred in you at those words. âUgly as sin, but he's a good enough boy, ain't that right?â He looked to Thomas, but the âboyâ in question stared right at you when he nodded. âSo you choose. You wanna eat-â
âI'll eat,â The answer flew from your mouth without hesitation, so much so that even the most uninterested of folks around the table caught your gaze. Your breath hitched in your bruised throat. âI'll eat, I swear. I'll eat.â
âMm-hm.â Hoyt eyed you and nodded. Something about the way he watched you made you feel overexposed, like your skin had been stripped raw from the bone and he was peering into every inch underneath. âFine then. Whore's all yours, Tommy-boy.â
At those words, your world shifted with a violent blur of motion. Before you could even gasp there were huge, strong hands under your armpits, and you were lifted out of your seat like a child who weighed less than nothing. You'd be thanking yourself later that you at least polished off most of your plate, because aside from an accidental thump of your foot hitting the table on the way by, you wouldn't be touching the rest of your breakfast again. Thomas slung you over his shoulder and cradled your lower half in the crook of an enormous arm, and with a shriek you felt yourself being carried off by the giant and taken away into another world.
The basement.
It had been a month and a half since you'd been taken in, now. Life had gone on despite you vanishing from the world you knew, and regardless of whether or not you woke up each morning and wondered why you were still kept alive, the earth continued to turn. Time went on and you adjusted, albeit shakily, to the routine of a life in the backcountry of rural Texas. You learned to help on the farm and Luda Mae, or momma as you were taught to call her, passed on her generations-old knowledge of cookery and cleaning and caring for the household. Sometimes you'd get driven out with momma and one of the uncles to tend the store, but that was on the rare side since they didn't trust the locals not to mess with you. Pretty things like you didn't come by often and you had values to uphold, now.
Plus, you had a man at home. Tommy was the reason you survived that awful first night, but now it was expected that he was also the reason you kept on living.
The rest of the family kept out of your business together for the most part, but you'd long been perplexed by the dynamic that had ensued since you'd first arrived. For as hulking and strong of a beast he was, you came to find out that Tommy's appearance was a shell that sheltered a soft-natured, sensitive boy at heart. His penchant for murder was not so, rather it was a duty carried out regardless of will in the service of a family he was lucky to have, despite you certainly thinking otherwise. He liked to work, and eat, and make things. His rage could certainly be a problem, but it was a rare thing that only cropped up once in a great while. He would endure more than ten times a normal person before he finally snapped, and even then he wouldn't ever let you see it. The few times he got mad, he would stomp out to the barn or head to the now-abandoned slaughterhouse, and take out his aggression on the thing he knew best. Meat. And most of the time it was a beating from Hoyt or a few too many bouts of yelling before he felt the need to get away.
After all, it wasn't anger that led his interactions with you. It was odd; he'd pointed you out specifically as the one he wanted to keep, but he seldom showed any entitlement in taking whatever it was he wanted from you. He'd lean in for kisses but most of the time he missed anyways. You weren't exactly sure what you could call your one occasion of intimacy with him that you recalled, because he didn't ask if you wanted it, but you didn't really tell him outright that you didn't. Would it have even mattered? Maybe not. But he barely managed to find the hole he was looking for anyways, and by the time he did it was obvious he had no clue what he was doing. Fumbling hands and a bit of awkward thigh-humping later and he'd finally left you be, albeit soaked and sticky with sweat and the residue he'd clumsily left behind on your bare stomach. Since then, it'd been just a few fingers on your thighs and some tame through-the-mask kisses, nothing more.
Not that you should really be questioning the love of a serial chainsaw butcher, but as the days passed it grew harder to see him in that light alone. You witnessed too much of the deformed, mentally-disturbed man who refused to eat before you did, who wouldn't lay a hand on you like he'd had laid on him all his life. Thomas showed affection in odd ways but they were more endearing than you thought they would be, from picking you flowers off the side of the road to cleaning up the small room you shared so you'd feel more at home. Sometimes his arousal would grow against your back while you laid in his arms, but a bit of shuddered hip-rocking through your pajamas while he thought you were asleep and the moment would pass. He was pretty easy to please.
There came a time when new visitors drove through town, however, and you knew what was going to happen as soon as Hoyt came home and called for Tommy to come upstairs. You stood at the sink washing dishes while you peered through the window; out in front of the same cornfield you'd crawled out of nearly two months ago, a van sat parked next to Hoyt's stolen Dodge. You watched with your breath held tight in your throat as five people hopped out the sliding door one by one, all seemingly chipper for where they were. Three girls, two guys. Their sunbleached hair and fancy beach clothes said all you needed to know about what type of people they were. One of the girls had a pendant hanging round her neck that caught the light just right, and you found yourself staring at it as it jostled against her sweat-soaked collarbone.
Chnk, thuuunk. At the sound of the basement door sliding open you turned your head, and there stood Tommy in the kitchen. Quiet as ever he came walking up and placed his thick hand on your head. The look in his burning eyes said it all. âEverything's okay. Don't fret.â He touched your hair a moment until Hoyt's voice rang out again, and with a silent huff he stepped away and made his way out to the lawn.
The light in each and every one of their eyes left the moment they spotted him approaching. One of the girls even grabbed her friendâs arm, stepping behind him halfway out of fear of the hulking giant that couldn't sleep without cuddling you at night. A dish slipped from your hand into the sink and splashed you, but as you pulled a rag from your apron pocket to dry the counter a bang and a high-pitched scream cut through the peaceful din of your quiet afternoon. You hopped up to see what was happening, but struggled to piece together the aftermath of the last five seconds.
On the ground lay one of the girls with a cavernous opening in the back of her head, collapsed in a steadily-growing pool of her own blood. Her lifeless eyes stared through you from across the lawn, they pierced into your very soul as she choked listlessly on her own blood, and you dropped to your knees behind the counter. Hands clamped over your mouth, you heaved each breath and hoped not to puke all over the freshly-mopped floor. Momma would have a fit if you ruined your own hard work.
Blind to whatever senselessness resided in their screams, you held back the churning of your stomach on your own bruised knees while the two of them took care of the rest. Within a few minutes you'd managed to pull yourself back up on shaky feet and finish washing the dishes. Within the hour, Tommy and Uncle Hoyt had gathered up the remaining survivors and taken them in. Two in the barn, one in the guest bedroomâŠand one locked up in the basement.
âMomma?â You called out softly into the hallway, wiping your fingers on your apron. Your chores for the day were finished, and the sun was starting to set on the horizon. Now would usually be the time you headed out to the chicken coop to lock it up, but with new visitors around, you didn't know the protocol. The last time this happened wasâŠwell, you didn't like to think about it.
âDown here, darlinâ.â Luda Mae popped her head out from the living room, and you hurried down the hall with your skirt fluttering around your legs. All your dresses were pretty modest and most of them were out of a trunk stored up in the attic, since momma had a whole collection of clothes she'd worn in her younger days that she figured would suit a young lady just fine. When you stepped in, you weren't expecting to see what you saw lying on the couch near uncle Monty's favourite spot.
It was one of the guys from the hippie van. His long hair had been soaked with blood and he was gagged, his face sporting bruises from an undoubtedly rough encounter with uncle Hoyt, who stood on the opposite side of the living room glaring at him.
âFucker tried to escape.â He sniffed, nursing a bloody nose with a hanky as he spoke with momma. âOther one's putzinâ around somewhere. You two keep an eye out, you hear me?â He pointed in your direction and you nodded out of instinct. Your eyes flicked towards the bound man on the couch as he made muffled noises of panic, but he was soon silenced by Hoyt whacking him over the head with the butt of his shotgun before he left to continue the search. Meanwhile, uncle Monty sat in his wheelchair unbothered, listening to the radio as it played on the windowsill and reading without a care in the world.
âMomma-â You tried again, but she turned to you with gentle eyes and gripped your shoulders lightly.
âGo clean up the kitchen for me, sweetheart?â She asked in earnest, and the plea you had to beg her not to make you take part died on your lips.
âYes, momma.â
âThat's my good girl.â Your hands fell at your sides, while she petted your hair lovingly and turned you away from the scene, patting you on the back as she ushered you back towards the kitchen. Blowing your hair out of your eyes, you resigned yourself to at least being a bystander to the horrors that were about to come, and made your way down the hall with your arms crossed over your chest in contemplation. Was there nothing you could do? No way to get out of playing a part, or at least ensuring they wouldn't ask? You had no doubts that you didn't have the stomach to do anything to the visitors, but then again, momma didn't have to do much either. Maybe you'd be saved by the tradition that dictated the six generations-deep household, and be regulated to the homely chores you'd tended to since first becoming a part of the family.
As you pushed through the door that led into the kitchen, the sounds of pots and pans clattering already grabbed your attention. It would be too late to do anything, howeverâbecause before you could even take a breath, someone's chest hit your back and there was a knife pinned to your throat.
âDon't you fucking move!â An unfamiliar voice whispered harshly in your ear. Your fingers scrabbled for purchase on the hand he had at your neck, but he jolted and the blade sunk deeper into your skin, causing you to cry outâand immediately be hushed by the stranger now holding you hostage. The bruising grip he had on your wrist now moved to clamp over your mouth, his body moving with you as you struggled in a momentary panic. Despite his warning, you brought your elbow backwards and loosened his grip on the knife as he choked in pain, throwing his arms off you as you stumbled forward and tripped over one of the dining chairs. Your skirt ripped as he tried to grab ahold of you again, but in his scramble to pick his weapon back up you kicked it away; and that was when fear truly started to pulse through your limbs like a heartbeat, when he glared daggers into you with a murderous rage, and you cried out the one name through tears that came to mind.
âTommy!â You sobbed, crawling away and trying to use the table to hoist yourself up, only to be kicked down again with a harsh shoe planted in the middle of your spine. Coughs ripped through your lungs as they seized in desperation, the wind having been knocked clean from your chest, and the sticky wetness of blood started pooling under your chin from hitting the floor face-first. Your nose wept with scarlet-red blood into your trembling palm, but that realization couldn't come close to the terror you felt at being grabbed by your hair and painfully lifted up off the ground.
âYou fucking bitch!â He screamed, voice hoarse and frighteningly loud so close to your face. âI'll kill youâI'll kill all you psycho motherfuckers!â He brought the knife so close to your heart you felt it cutting through the airâbut before he could bring it anywhere near your skin, a muffled thump from close by yanked him right to attention. He turned his head frantically towards the source, and you took the opportunity afforded to you. You brought your foot up hard into his groin, and released his grip on you for the second time for you to drop to the floor in a heap. Your dress smeared the blood you'd left on the pristine, freshly-mopped floorboards as you shuffled away from him, fearing the worst of retaliation from the panicked, indignant captive.
That is, until the thumping grew so loud you heard it clearly coming up the stairs, and without so much as a hint of ceremony your savior burst through the kitchen door; his eyes wild, his fists clenched with indomitable rage. His gaze swept over the scene to you, so small compared to him, huddled in the corner between the cabinets with a blood and tear-stained face. What could only be described as a growl erupted from his broad chest, and he grabbed the legs of your hunched-over assailant and dragged him closer between his feet.
âNo!â He cried, but it was far past too late. Tommy grabbed him by the back of his head, yanked him upwards to the height of his shins, and slammed the guy's head so hard into the floor that you could hear the sickening crack of his skull. Dazed but still semi-conscious, he fumbled for the knife he dropped or for anything that could save him, but it wouldn't be enough even so. With his nose ten times as smashed up as he'd done to you and his eye sockets bruised, Tommy's grip trembled on his head like he was considering whether or not to end him right here, right now. Evidently he figured that would be too easy, and before your very eyes he hauled the man up and carried him screaming down into the basement, where you heard the thwacks of him being cuffed down to the workbench before footsteps came echoing back upstairs. He found you in the same spot, still shaking like a leaf, and pushed the table aside to waste as little time as possible getting to you.
âTommy..â You winced, touching your own face for your fingers to come back bloody. He knelt down like a mountain sinking into the sea and felt around your neck, his concerns for the shallow slash you'd gotten in the struggle that you hadn't even noticed was bleeding. He grunted in reply; one hand slid up to cradle the back of your head, while two meaty fingers lightly pinched the sore bridge of your nose. Knowing what he was about to do wouldn't make it hurt any less, but you still gave him the go-ahead to do it anywaysâhe forced the bone back with a gut-churning twist, and you squealed out in pain, but it was momentary and the ache that followed was a dull one, thank god.
But still, you sat with a face full of blood and bruises and cried, half out of pain and half out of pure misery. This wasn't the life you wanted to lead, and you hated that you had no choice in the matter. You wanted to go but you knew it would mean the end, and you hated that whenever you thought of all the things you despised about this life, your mind would always wander to Tommy and you'd feel guilt over hurting him or leaving him behind. You hated it all, but somehow you couldn't really hate him, and it left you trapped in this cycle that you loathed to think would never, ever end.
While the tears continued to streak down your face, Tommy took to patting your cheeks gently. He held them and squeezed them carefully, so tender and cautious when it was you that was the meat between his destructive hands. He moved in close, his breathing hot and stifled beneath the mask he never took off in front of you. His head tilted, tongue wetting his lips in anticipation, and he-
âBoy!â Uncle Hoyt roared as he burst through the kitchen door, alerting you both and tearing Tommy's reverent gaze away from you. He stood fast and took you with him, your elbows cupped in his rough hands as he hauled you singlehandedly to your feet. âYou find that fucker yet?!â He swung his shotgun around and you flinched at the way he aimed it so carelessly. The âboyâ in question tucked you under his arm out of habit and shielded you almost entirely with the sheer enormity of his titan-esque frame. Wordlessly, he gestured towards the direction of the basement door with your trembling self still pinned tightly to his chest. The pseudo-sherriff narrowed his eyes at the both of you, namely the blood caking your otherwise pretty face, and scoffed. âHose her down, Jesus almighty..â He muttered that last blasphemy under his breath as he moved past out the back door, leaving the two of you wide-eyed and uncertain; his arm squeezing you tight against him, and your calloused fingers digging into his dirty sleeve as the crickets chirped outside the screen door.
âYou..â You swallowed dryly. The words came to you when no others did the same justice. âYou're a good boy, Tommy. You did a good job.â
Your praise hit his ears just right, as it always did. Tommy nuzzled his face into yours just so gently, barely grazing your skin with the damp leather as he tended to your wounds. With your broken nose already re-set, he rummaged through the drawers around you without taking his hand off your arm, sparing little time before his hand clasped around a roll of familiar gauze and he nudged the drawer closed. Though it was shallow enough to have stopped bleeding already, he wrapped some around your neck for the cut that would surely leave a scar, and used a clean rag to mop up your face with a bit of water from the tap. As he moved down your body to your waist, clearly concerned by the generous bloodstain marring your pretty, cotton dress, something caught his eye that froze him in place and sent a throbbing anger right into his dense fists. Worried, you set your hand on his shoulder, but it would do no good at comforting him after what he saw.
Your skirt. Torn like it had been yanked apart, desperately, and it had. Was he worried you'd be upset over the damage? You wondered for a passing moment, but as his fists shook with rage and your dressesâ hem balled within them you knew it to be a different reason entirely. He thoughtâ
Oh. So that's what he thought. You sought to comfort his fears but he'd had enough. Your delicate hands tugging at his mammoth arms made barely a dent in his intense march towards the basement, your begging too saccharine to even reach his ears. He walked with purpose into the hallway, wrenched open the sliding door with a force that bent it slightly, and with a palm outstretched to ward you off from following, he slammed it shut with an enormous bang that rattled the whole house. Standing there in shock and horror, you listened to his footsteps pounding the stairs before turning away and heading back towards the kitchen.
You had quite the mess to clean up in there, and there was nothing better to distract yourself from the howling screams of agony that would persist until dinnertime.
Maybe this was exactly how awkward it was when you'd been sat in that familiar chair. You remembered little of your first meal, the very first breakfast of many you would share with the family that had adopted you in to their home.
This was a lot lessâŠfriendly, though. Out of the five people who had arrived, two of them were dead. The one that had attacked you in the kitchen had grown silent in the basement. The other twoâthe hippy with the long hair and a redheaded girlâhad their wrists bound to two chairs diagonal from each other. The guy sat at the very end where you'd once been, and the girl to his right with tears streaming down her cheeks, sobbing softly as you filled everyone's bowls. Luckily for you, Monday was chicken soup night, so you had no worries over what kind of meat Hoyt would want to prepare for the special occasion. You'd been the only one to stir the pot, and the only one who made it at all for every Monday that rolled around. It had quickly become Tommyâs favourite, hence why he was only a few minutes late to arrive outside the dining room for dinner. Though you could tell that he'd barely cleaned up, his apron and his pants still soaked liberally with clotted blood.
âHands?â You questioned, your ladle poised over the pot of hot soup, and waited until the hulking giant tentatively stepped in the doorway to hold out his massive hands for inspection. When it was your turn to cook, you learned that you held the authority over the table for that evening. So you rarely followed the lead of uncle Hoyt or the others, and wouldn't wait until after grace to invite Tommy into the room. You checked over his knucklesâbruised, but scrubbed cleanâand only then did you nod towards the seat you saved for him and waited until he settled uncertainly into the chair to pour him a bowl and set it down in front of him.
If not for the whimpering captives at the table, it would be a better-than-average night. You'd improved on your recipe with a bit of creative seasoning, and the night had cooled off considerably to offer a bit of respite from the oppressive heat. You led grace, and smoothing out your fresh dress to fan out under your thighs as you sat, the table commenced with clinking spoons and bread being buttered that you thanked the stars hadn't gotten stale yet. Though of course, the unexpected visitors weren't so keen on your homemade cooking and didn't so much as look down at their bowls.
Tommy was too distracted to be frustrated by it, though. With his head dipped down to the table like a mutt, he slurped up his soup through the mask and chewed noisily on bits of chicken and corn. You'd saved the biggest roll for him and he tore into it like it was nothing, ripping chunks of bread off with his teeth and enthusiastically gulping down broth to wash it down. You hadn't even had time to butter his bread for him first like you usually did, but it pleased you to see him enjoying your cooking even more than usual.
âPlease,â A wobbly voice pricked at the tense silence. The redheaded girl pulled at her restraints again, shaking the table in the process. âWe didn't do anythingâŠplease, please, let us go!â She sobbed, wailing even louder as she thrashed against the stiff arms of the old chair.
âC'mon, man! We won't tell anyone, swear!â The hippie chimed in, only for Hoyt to slam his fist down on the table to silence the whining of his two captives.
âShut the hell up!â He snarled, whipping out a revolver from his holster to point at each one of them. âHad enough of your shit today. Shut your mouths.â He motioned towards his still-bloodied nose, and endured yet another scolding from momma for cussing at the table as he tucked the gun back into its place. You peered over at the two of them, but regret came immediately when the hippie's green eyes locked on yours like he saw a glimmer of hope within them. You forced your gaze back down to your bowl. You couldn't be their saviour, no matter how much they wanted you to be.
âLovely soup, sweetheart.â Momma smiled over at you, while uncle Monty nodded quietly in agreement.
âMm-hm. Momma taught you all her secrets, eh?â Hoyt added with a slurp off his spoon, the irritation from earlier having vanished. You thanked them politely, keeping your pride to yourself at the coveted praise directed your way. In a household where anything could go wrong at any time, you had to hold the good things as tight to your chest as you possibly could.
From beside you, Tommy lifted his head from an empty bowl and sighed softly with satisfaction. The remnants of spilled soup dribbled down his mask and his grimy neck, so with your own cloth napkin you reached over and did the job that was normally momma's; you wiped his face clean with a gentle hand, and he sat still for one of the only people he didn't flinch away from when you touched him.
âGood, Tommy?â He wasn't used to being asked his opinion, much less on something as scarce as food, when you didn't have much choice on what you ate. He nodded slowly, looking at you like you held the world as you finished wiping up the mess he'd left on the table.
Just then, one of the captivesâmaybe both of themâkicked their legs out in frustration, and shifted the table with a jolt that sent hot soup splashing out of the pot. The redhead's bowl tipped over and dumped her untouched meal all over her lap, but the porcelain shattering as it hit the floor wasn't what had Tommy rising out of his seat.
Wasteful. That's what they were. Insulting your cooking. You saw it in Tommy's eyes as anger overwhelmed him again, and for the second time tonight your reassurances weren't enough to halt him in his tracks. His chair legs scraped the floor loudly as he got up and maneuvered around the table, the tense quiet peppered by the screams of the girl as he grabbed the back of her head and slammed it down into the slick tabletop. Not nearly as hard as he'd done to the other guy, but enough so that he brought her back up with a nose gushing blood and a harsher sob on her lips.
âYou teach her a lesson, Tommy!â Hoyt eagerly encouraged the violence, but you reached your hand out over the table and pressed your palm flat against her forehead. At the resistance you gave her, Tommy's grip grew slack and a look of panic came over him at the distress etched clear on your face. He looked conflicted, peering over at Hoyt and then back at you. Was he being bad, or being good? Was what he was doing right, or was it wrong? Hoyt started shouting and cussing at you for stopping him, but Tommy skirted back around the table to your side and put himself between you and his furious uncle. A swat to the back of the head wasn't totally uncommon for you, even if it didn't happen often, but the punishments Tommy received were always far worse. The belt or a two-by-four were considered light work in Hoyt's sadistic mind, but after what you'd been through today you were certain Tommy wouldn't be keen on letting you endure any more pain. He would take punishments and beatings for you whenever he had the chanceâsometimes Hoyt had even asked him what he preferred, and not once had he put you up for the chopping block if he could take it for you.
âEnough of this shit!â Hoyt finally roared. He jabbed his thumb in the direction of the basement and shoved both you and Tommy towards it. âTake these sons aâ bitches downstairs, and don't come up until they're meat!â
Both of the captives shrieked and flailed in their chairs at his demand, but you managed to undo their binds despite the struggling and let Tommy haul each one up in his arms; one over his shoulder, and one tucked up under his armpit. Your heartbeat thudded in your throat as you followed Tommy's lead towards the stairs, and when it came time to shut the door, you had to swallow your fear with a gulp as the metal scraped on metal and a heavy thunk pitched you into darkness.
The only times you'd watched Tommy work before was when he'd taken you to the slaughterhouse. It was an aging, now-abandoned building that had seen generations of hard workers come and go, and despite it no longer being in business he still came by to do some work when he wasn't needed for chores at the house. You weren't sure why he didn't usually take you along or why he decided to on those few occasions, but regardless of the stench, the blood, and the intensity of chopping and cleaning meat, it was easy to tell that Tommy was good at it. Real good.
It was a little different today. About a week had passed since the visitors came through town, and by now all five of them were taken care of. You'd barely eaten since you couldn't stomach the fresh meat, and with you excusing yourself to throw up that first dinner after you'd had guests, the rest of the family had been looking down on you. Momma was sad for you, and Monty was mostly indifferent when he wasn't straight up disappointed in you. But Hoyt was vindictive and angry. He thought you were turning your back on the family, judging them, acting âall high and mightyâ and worst of all, risking your family's safety. You'd gotten caught leaving the locks loose on the two survivors' shackles, and they'd nearly escaped out the basement before Hoyt caught both of them in the cornfield and finally shot them dead.
You swore it was an accident. Hoyt thought otherwise. He would've killed you right then and there if Tommy hadn't stepped in for you, and even then the air had been strained in the house ever since, as uncle Hoyt demanded you be properly punished for your sins.
That's why you'd been dragged along with Tommy to accompany him to the slaughterhouse. By the end of the day, Hoyt wanted a proper apologyâone in the form of a bloody limb, an organ, or maybe just your head on a platter as recompense for betraying your family. And worst of all, he wanted Tommy to be the one to do it, to decide what would be a fitting price for you to pay. To âgrow some balls and be a manâ, as Hoyt put it so delicately.
But since morning, he'd just been chopping meat. Tommy hadn't even looked at you the whole time you'd been here, not even on the walk down the side of the road to get here in the first place. He'd picked you up under your arms and sat you up on the table behind him, and then he'd turned his back to you as he brought down his cleaver on the piles and piles of dripping meat. Sometimes he would turn around and hand you chunks to wrap up in butcher's paper, but for the most part he indicated nothing towards the task he had primarily been sent here to do. Somehow it just made it all worse; you felt on the edge of snapping from the anxious terror that tightened up all your muscles, wondering what on earth Tommy would do to you before the day was done. Was he just procrastinating? Because if he arrived back home with nothing to show for it, it wouldn't save you in the endâit would just make it worse for both of you when he got punished too.
âTommy.â You gnawed on your bottom lip. He brought the blade down on the chopping block with a thunk. With the bone separated, a squelch hit your ears as he slid the sections apart and dragged over another hunk to slice through. âI'm sorry.â
Thunk. Not even a passing glance over his shoulder. And it was hard to tell if he was mad when he wouldn't even look at you.
âI didn't want to get you in troubleâŠâ
Thunk.
âI was just scared.â
Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.
âTommy-â
The slow escalation of his measured cuts finally culminated into an uproarious clatter, his cleaver smacking down on the soaked table before he turned himself to face you. Blood marred the clothes you'd taken off the laundry line for him that morning, apron slick and sticky with viscera as it almost always was. Sweat poured down his arms and his hairy chest and beaded at his dense forehead. Every inch of him was dirty, and yet you didn't cringe away from it when he closed the distance between you and came up harrowingly close. The stench of blood and meat wafted off of him from barely an inch away. His hips edged in between your knees as you sat on the lip of the counter, keeping personal space far from his mind when he grabbed your arms and dwarfed them under his massive fingers. Each breath heaved beneath his mask like swallowing a bubble, ready to pop.
This time, Hoyt was nowhere around to interrupt him. Momma wasn't there to scold him. Nobody would hear for miles what he would do to you, and you had no idea what he'd had brewing in his mind since he'd choked you out in the cornfield that first meeting. That intense stare of his was like a bear honing in on a rabbit, and if you had the thought to run, it was already too late.
Thick fingers clamped down around your neck, dug into the scar that had formed from the asshole that had sliced you, and you felt your heart stutter as Tommy pulled you along the length of the table and slammed you down into it by the throat. This way you were laid out like a cow would to be butchered, plenty of room for him to work as he held you down and reached over to pull a leather strap over your midsection. He affixed the buckle tight to the opposite side and tightened it more when you squirmed against the pressure, but not quite enough to be as painful as the ropes that dug into your wrists at your first family meal. With that in place he didn't need to hold you down to keep you pinned against the table, and although you whimpered in fear and fought against the bindings he paid your resistance little mind, instead looking through his tools on the cutting table to find a decently-sized paring knifeâdrenched liberally in bloodâfor him to hook under the neckline of your dress and make a cut down the middle. Once he hit the tough leather over your stomach, the tool skittered across the table as he abandoned it in favour of ripping your skirt apart with his bare hands, the thin layer of cotton offering no resistance to his brute strength.
Why did it make you so wet? You couldn't shake the feeling of arousal from how animalistic he was behaving, nor the sheer, overwhelming musk of man and sweat and blood. Tommy was never rough with you but he was certainly making up for it now; you flinched at the firmness of his fingers digging into your skin, leaving trails of thin blood and dirt behind as he tore your cotton bra into loose pieces. His hands trembled at the sight of you exposed like this, too much skin to handle, and such soft flesh that filled out his palms when he cupped your breasts in each eager hand. A hitch of breath was enough to show him that you liked it, whether it was the attention itself or exclusively because it was him touching you. It didn't matter.
Tommy massaged each one with such eager reverence, his handwork clumsy compared to the ease with which he handled so many other forms of meat. He wasn't keen on ripping these off your body and eating them; although he did want to test how they would feel in his mouth, especially those plum, soft nubs of yours that perked when he brushed his thumbs over them. By now you weren't completely certain he wasn't going to butcher you, but you had a pretty good idea that this was his plan Bâtake out that inner aggression on you that would not make his god-fearing family proud.
A deep, weighty groan slipped out of him at the taste of sweat on your skin. Every bruise he left with his teeth would have to be covered up and powdered, but god, god it was so easy for him to undo every vestige of purity you'd put on for show. Your back arched and your worn shoes squeaked against the steel table as you wiggled, the globes of fat he held in his palms jiggling with a mesmerizing glow every time you moved. As much as you wanted to wrench yourself free in some moments, in most others you couldn't bear the breaks he took to catch his breath, leaving your chest prickling with goosebumps as a draft hit your spit-sticky skin. He squeezed and kneaded to his heart's content and took a twisted glee out of making you squirm, especially when you made those gurgly noises that were so traitorous to the pristine image you painted for momma. She'd made it clear that you weren't to go off messing with boys when they came strolling up to the store's counter, or return any of their flirtations no matter how many times they called you pretty.
Obviously she didn't think her son would be the one you had to keep from tempting, but that train had long left the station now. Thomasâ index finger tore through the thin fabric of your panties with a swipe, and there you laid bare and naked to his wandering eyes while he yanked the shreds of them down the rest of your legs. He probably didn't know what positions were which and how girls had their periods, but he knew enough to slide those thick fingers through your folds and to keep going when you moaned like a dying animal. âTommy, Tommy, Tommyâ, it was a mantra that hit his ears just right and urged him into clambering on top of the table with you with wild eyes. They drank in every inch of your sweltering body, the pulse of your heart through the hole he was jamming his fingers into, and on instinct he was guided to push down his waistband and throw off his apron as he knelt back on his haunches.
You might've thought he was nothing but hair if he wasn't so thick. Clearly he'd never shaved in his life with the erroneous bush he sported, curly hair matting down his thighs and his belly too once his shirt started riding up. But that fat, drooling knob of his swayed to hit his thigh, and you got an eyeful of pure, veiny, gut-smashing terror that you were sure would kill you if you didn't manage to relax. The further he leaned over your body, the more you felt like he was going to crush you as soon as he lined himself up with the hole he'd be stretching out like a little homemade cock sleeve. His hands slid under your knees to prop them up, but rather than sling them over his shoulders he bent them back and pinned them to your chest. An aching burn raced up your thighs but he paid no mind to your trembling; Tommy knelt over you and settled between your legs, and without warning, started sinking slowly into that hot opening he'd been dying to get deeper inside.
âH-Holdâwait, T-Tommy, hold oh-!â
Were you really so convinced he would play nice with you? Maybe you'd become complacent with the gentleness he showed you at his best, because when Tommy finally pressed in past the tip, he was gone. Forcing your knees back even further, he let out a groan and pushed himself up higher over you; all just to settle himself into your deepest pits and trap you in a violating mating press. After doing nothing but enjoying your heat, smushing his hips down against yours in a grinding motion, he soon seemed to realize he could moveâand move he did, drawing back just to crush your hips with a deep, stomach-punching stroke.
âUnh,â What most resembled a moan fell from his scarred lips, and he fumbled around the back of his head to unclasp the leather from his face. This was the first and only time he'd ever felt safe enough to take it off since you'd met, and it was when he'd finally listened to his body and acted on his need to force every inch of him inside you. To be one. Now you finally were, and his synthetic face dropped on your chest before slowly sliding off to hit the floor.
If your jaw hadn't already gone slack from his violent thrusting, it would probably fall from the realization of what hid under that mask day after day. The sallow, sunken nose, the scars, the jagged skin and self-inflicted woundsâŠwhy wasn't it as scary as you thought? You figured, in the moment, you'd just gotten too used to him in personality, or maybe because you were just too distracted at the moment, butâŠ
âTommy-!â You squeaked out. The wet smack of his balls on your ass stuck in your ears, the strings of creamy slick linking you flesh-to-flesh as he went to town on your pussy. If he truly was losing his virginity to you, then all that pent-up frustration must be the source of him absolutely ruining any semblance of tightness you might've had. âA-Are you tryinâ toâyou wanna gimme a baby? S'that it?â You slurred, slowly losing your good sense the longer he showed you your place.
Though you thought it would be to your horror, his slow nod only sparked something dark and tremulous within your loins. Something more than sweat and slick and the vile squelching of his seldom-washed dick rubbing up to your womb. It hit you then; this was your punishment. Every clap and sticky smack of flesh on flesh was a promise, an urge fulfilled to tear your meat from the bone and thrust a new purpose unto you. A homemaker. Tommy's little bride. A momma. Make his momma a grandmama like she was always praying for.
Shluck. Shluck. Shluck. Shluck. No doubt in your mind that was exactly what he was doing, and exactly why he brought you all the way out to the slaughterhouse to do it. The leather strap over your stomach kept you from wriggling away, but that would only be if you could somehow get him to pull out, and that for sure wasn't happening. He didn't bother with long strokes and leaving the tip in, your cunt was a home for him to bury himself in and he wasn't about to waste a second of this. His thick thighs trembled over yours, and he ground the swollen head of his cock deep against your cervix. So deep it was painful, but why would he care? He was doing a good thing. He was being a good boy, giving you what uncle Hoyt told him all women wanted, even if they didn't say it out loud.
Tommy's moans grew to a higher pitch once he affixed his hand like a necklace round your throat, swelling with the faster, faster, faster pace of his thrusts downward. He pressed his other meaty hand into your knees and shoved each one further apart, which made you whine but gave him easier access to pound you into greedy, delectable mush. Whereas it might've turned off weaker men, your nails digging deep, long scratches up his back made Tommy groan and tilt his head back in delirious pleasure. His knees kept you pinned at your sides and his weightâhis stomach squishing into you from aboveâheld you down where you belonged, where you'd be the most beautiful and of best use. Beneath him with a womb spilling over with cum, sown by his seed and his seed alone. His picturesque, pretty little wife. Hewitt property. He wouldn't stop, and you wouldn't beg him to even if you weren't being choked of any air you had left, and the world started to spin as the ecstasy took hold and Thomas was squeezing your moans out of you with trembling fervour. It felt as though your lower half exploded and left you with a warm, full, tingly sensation, marred by pearly-white globs of a load he'd had saved up since birth.
In contrast to the violent lovemaking he'd just shown you he was capable of, you were slowly brought back to life by small, soft little pecks. Kisses like the fuzz of a bumblebee brushing by your cheeks, pressing into your lips with a sweetness you weren't used to. This felt like Tommy again, like the gentle touch he used when nobody was around to laugh at him for being so sweet on you. He shuddered with bliss as his cock pulsed with your heartbeat and milked him of what little he had left, but with his chubby fingers rubbing at your jaw and brushing your sweaty locks aside he managed to drag himself off of you. Slowly, like molasses on a cold day, he brought himself back down off the table and let his feet hit the floor, having to brace himself against the table to keep from stumbling to the ground. Click-shuuunk. The leather belt snapped back into its holder as he released it, which left a sizeable indent across your abdomen that you'd have to hope would be covered enough not to show bruises. All you could do was watch as Tommy did up his pants on his way around the table, only to return to your side with the biggest, sharpest knife you swore you had ever seen. You flinched away and nearly cried out-
Shlip. With a strand pulled taut, Tommy made quick work of separating a lock of your hair from your head. Just a short one, so as not to make much differenceâbut he held it to his face and sniffed deeply, and it ashamed you to say that the gesture in itself just made your clit throb with need you thought you'd been completely overdosed on. Despite that, you laid still while Tommy reached over and retrieved his mask, tucking the tuft of hair inside it so he could smell it all the time. To calm him down, to cool him off, to just enjoyâŠall the things that you brought to him when no one else did, or could. From his pocket he produced something small and shiny, and dangled it over your face to show you before he set on fixing it around your neck. The pendant you'd seen that girl wearing a week ago now hung against your collar, the gleam of gold in it polished clean of the blood spilled to take it.
You barely let out a moan as he set on rearranging your limbs, turning you over, letting his cum spill down your thighs and all over the table like the blood from a fresh cut of beef. His calloused digits traced down your spine and up again til he found a sweet spot, and padded down your springy flesh that separated bone from his fingers. The carving knife had tinged when he'd sharpened it but he didn't show it to youâthat would be too much for you, given what he was about to commit to.
Every arc, long and curved or short and straight, burned. The tip of the blade dug into your flesh like a red-hot needle, but Tommy's warm palm on the back of your neck kept you from moving out of his reach. He needed to start and to finish and his hand was already unsteady, mostly from the way his breath still hitched and his cock stirred all over again at the sight of your writhing body. Your blood turned him on. He hadn't touched any of the victims before you, not in that way, but you weren't really the same as themâno, you were special. If you weren't, Tommy wouldn't be carving those words into your back, and putting on display his ownership over the one and only thing he would ever see as more than meat.
If you didn't get pregnant this time, then this would surely be enough for the family to forgive. The letters scrawled in bloody ecstasy that would heal over, scar, wounds to be reopened over and over again.
Tommy's girl
forever

clumsy!reader is still bad at yoga and yoga instructor!rafe wants to keep her all to himself...
18+ mdni!
c/w: rafe being touchy & blatantly flirting w her, him getting jealous, slightly suggestive, reader being oblivious
wc: 1.9k
idk if anyone missed him but he's back & better than ever !! (after a small vacation that ended up being almost 3 months :D)
some parts are more or less inspired by this, this, this & this ask
part 1
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Rafe is in the midst of helping someone fix their posture when he hears the gates of heaven opening in the form of a melodious giggle chiming from the back of the room. He lifts his head in order to detect the source of such a vibrant sound; noticing that his favorite client is currently directing her attention towards some guy next to her. Â
The joyful expression sheâs sporting makes a scowl paint over his features. Why is this random man making her laugh like that? Â
âYeah, you got it. Just keep workinâ on it though,â he quickly dismisses the person he was helping before stomping over to find her practically lying on the floor with the guyâs hands on her calf, along with his mat pulled far too close to hers for Rafeâs liking. Â Â
âI think you should bend it more here, right? Iâm honestly not too sure,â the guy chuckles as he tries to figure out what sheâs doing wrong. Â
âNo cause I have no idea how everyone else makes it seem so easy. Itâs so hard to get it right, I feel so stupid half the time,â she complains with a huff, not even noticing Rafe looming within earshot. Â
âSeriously, I thought this was a beginnerâs class but it feels like some of these poses are meant for like literal pros,â he continues with a shake of his head.Â
âI know, right?â another peal of laughter bubbles from her throat as she shifts into a seated position, giving up altogether. Â
âEverything alright?â Rafe doesnât mean for his tone to come out so clipped but thereâs something in the way the guyâs touching her so freely that makes his hands curl into fists.Â
He keeps reminding himself over and over again that this is a client, which means that he canât just smash his face inâ no matter how severely his fingers are itching for it right about now. Â
âOh, I was just trying to help her with this,â the guy explains in tandem with her head turning to look at Rafe. She seems startled. Â
âWell, why donât you focus on your own form for a change? I mean, sâkinda my job to help her, yeah?â he scoffs, making the guy halt his movements in a state of surprise before he's lifting his hands up in apology. Â
âDamn, sorry dude,â he mutters out from under his breath while Rafe merely glares at him with the words stay professional bouncing around his skull. Â
A tense silence follows, making her grow quiet while she takes slow sips from her water bottle as a distraction; wondering why he seems so bothered to see her talking to someone else. Â
However, when he finally turns his attention towards her, she shrugs it off as him merely having a bad day because it seems like the only logical explanation to her. Because at the end of the day, him being jealous makes as much sense to her as her math homework in high school.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Rafe is convinced that the universe is purposefully trying to poke and prod at his limits, giving his carefully curated facade opportunities to crackâ allowing for the borderline psychotic aspects of his personality to breathe through the crevices. Because only a week later, Rafe sees her entering the gym with another guy she seems to be awfully friendly with.Â
âThatâs crazy, I donât even wanna know what Kie said to that,â she rolls her eyes jokingly while heâs showing her something on his phone. Â
âYeeeah, guess you could say she wasnât the biggest fan,â he laughs in a carefree manner, raking a hand through his disheveled, sand-colored hair. Â
âFor some reason Iâm not surprised,â she mutters out before she notices Rafe standing in the hallway leading to the yoga class. âOh, gotta go so Iâm not late. See you after?âÂ
âYeah, Iâll be here. Think Pope said heâs gonna join me for leg day, so weâll see if Iâm still standing when you get back. But you have fun,â he offers her a wave before walking away towards the locker rooms.Â
And at last, her warm eyes meet Rafeâs. âHi,â her voice is soft, nearly shy; a stark contrast to her demeanor only a few seconds ago. Â
âHey,â he greets her in a casual manner, although his mind is somewhere else entirely. âSo, that your boyfriend or?â he tries to approach the subject with nonchalance because itâs not necessarily any of his business. Â
Heâs not even sure why heâs askingâ keeps telling himself that heâs just curious and tries to appear friendly by making small talk. After all, some clients have given him feedback on his apparently intimidating aura, claiming they donât always have the courage to ask for his help because they get anxious heâll judge them. Therefore, it's something heâs been trying to work on. Â
âWhat? Oh, JJ? No, heâs just a friend. He goes to the gym here, so I usually just tag along with him. Free ride, right?â she answers with a lighthearted tone. Â
âRight. Yeah,â he scratches at the back of his neck, contemplating whether or not to ask the next question since he doesnât want to overstep any boundaries. However, thereâs something deep in his stomach that grumbles at the prospect of her being in a relationship, makes him feel nearly insane and ultimately, makes the decision for him.Â
âYou, uh, you got one?â Â
âWhat?â she asks, features coated in confusion.Â
âA boyfriend, I mean,â his gaze is unwavering, eager. Â
âOh, umâ no, I donât. Why?â her puzzled eyes flit over the lines of his countenance, seemingly trying to grasp onto his motives.Â
âJust, uhâŠwondering. I mean, heâd be kind of a dick if heâs not drivinâ you here himself,â he shrugs, a strange sort of relief making his shoulders feather-light when she lets out an airy giggle in response. Â
âYeah, honestly sometimes wish I had one just so he could drive me around and stuff,â she jokes while they begin to pad over to the class.Â
âYou donât have your license yet?â he raises his brows in surprise. Â
âNo, I do. I just donât really like driving. I donât know why but itâs so stressful to me. Usually try to avoid it as much as I can,â she elaborates while gathering her hair away from her face and securing the strands into a ponytail.  Â
âOh yeah? Well, if you ever need a ride home just let me know, alright?â he says, fighting the urge to tuck a loose tendril that has managed to escape the restraints of her hair tie back behind her ear. Â
âReally? Thatâs so sweet of you! But, um, wouldnât wanna be a bother,â the hesitation is present in her voice. Â
âNah, couldnât bother me if you tried,â he promises, wishing they could talk for longer. However, the ocean of people flooding inside the room behind them cuts their conversation short. Â
âYouâre just saying that,â she dismisses him with a playful scoff.Â
âMâbeing for real. Youâre my favorite face around here. Plus, makes my job more fun when youâre always stumblin' on your feet,â he canât help his mouth from twisting upwards at the way her eyes round out in response to his words.Â
âShut up. Iâm gonna go set down my mat now, before thereâs only space right in front of you,â she offers him a giddy smile that makes him grin like an idiot. Then, sheâs tiptoeing away from him in order to locate a vacant spot.Â
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
Rafe has become awfully familiar with these newfound feelings of fondness for the girl whoâs by far the most helpless little bambi heâs ever encountered. He thinks she should honestly pick another hobby at this point, because maybe yoga just isnât meant for her. However, heâd never say any of that out loud because even the thought of not seeing her getting all flustered while she loses her balance whenever heâs near makes him feel physically unwell. Â
Heâs not entirely sure whether her apparently oblivious brain simply hasnât caught onto the fact that he so clearly has a thing for her, or if sheâs well aware and merely chooses to be a tease about it. Nonetheless, the moment she walked into the class today, he could feel his workout shorts tightening and all sheâd offered him was a simple smile. Â
And now sheâs right in front of him, all tangled limbs and pretty eyes blinking up at himâ practically begging for his guidance and for him to put his hands all over her (something she doesnât seem to mind all that much). Â
âYou put this cute little set on just for me, huh?â he rasps out while his thumb smooths over the bubblegum pink fabric; feeling it out as he pinches the stretchy fabric between his fingertips, making her breath get caught in her throat in the process. Â
âOh, umâ just wanted toâŠtry out some new stuff I ordered. You think itâs cute?â she stares at him with something bashful glimmering in her eyes.Â
âMhm. Fits you nice,â he mumbles out as his gaze lingers on the way the tight material wraps around her figure, not leaving much to the (his) imagination. He bets itâd be so easy to just rip right through these cute yoga pants and pull her closer with a firm grip on her hips before burying his face between her plush thighs.
âThanks,â she peeps out, flustered. Â
He tries to shake off the improper, filthy thoughts with a clear of his throat when he gets caught staring at her for a little too long. Â
âSo, you actually wanna bend your leg on the other side of your body on the mat and support your foot with your left arm not the right one. Easy to get them confused,â he chuckles as she shifts her position according to his instructions as best as she can.Â
âLike this?â she seeks reassurance with a soft tone. Â
âYeah, just like that, Bambi. Good job,â his mouth quirks up some while her mind begins to cloud over in response to his low cadence. Sheâs not entirely sure what exactly it is about him that makes her feel so fuzzy on the inside, but she thinks itâs nice, thinks she wants to always have him this close to herâ wants him even closer.
She doesnât remember the last time sheâs had such an intense crush on someoneâ slowly turning into a crazy person by each second of not knowing whether heâs merely flirting with her for his own amusement or because heâs actually into her. However, she thinks sheâs embarrassed herself in front of him far too many times for the latter to be true in any reality. Â
âThen need you to move your right hand here,â he adjusts her form with a grip on her wrist while he maneuvers her to his liking; tingles erupting all over the skin he skims over with his fingertips. Â
Her head is spinning. Â
âSee? Knew you could do it. Feels nice, hm?â he rumbles out, letting his hands rest on her shoulders for support, despite the position not really requiring it. Â
She hums her response because she doesnât trust for any coherent words to stumble out of her mouth at the moment, all the while Rafe is desperately trying to not pay attention to the nearly painful situation in his pants.

Hello! Just wanted to say I absolutely love your writing! A bit of a request for the batboys (Jason, Tim, Dick, and Damian), just something silly.
I recently saw a video of a girl saying her boyfriend's entire name as if he was in trouble only for her to tell him she loved him. It was funny to me at the time, it was also late at night lol.
Soo... How would the boys react to reader suddenly saying their full name out of the blue as if they were in trouble as a prank? đđđ€
Dick is thinking to death about what he might done to earn you saying his full name, so much so the poor man was sweating bullets which each step he took in your direction
Did he miss an anniversary?
Date night?
Hayleyâs vet appointment?
He wanted to know badly so that he could think up a way to make it up to you however you wanted. Steal his clothes because they smell like him, he didnât care, he just didnât like you using his full name.
So as he looked you deep in the eyes, mentally preparing for whatever left your mouth, only for you to relax your face and kiss his cheek much to his surprise.
âI love you.â You told him sweetly as you smiled at him.
âWhat?â Dick said.
âI love you.â You repeated, still smiling.
âThatâsâŠthatâs all youâve called my full, legal government name for, to tell me you love me?â Dick asked as though he was waiting for a joke that was never going to come.
âYep.â You said.
âNo catch.â
âNone.â
âCan you stop calling me Richard now and go back to calling me baby, cutie, dickie bird or -preferable- handsome now?â Dick again asks as he felt a weight lift off of his shoulders and was finally able to breathe again now that his questions could finally be laid to sleep.
You chuckled as you kissed his lip. âSure, whatever you say, handsome.â
Damian is unfazed.
Heâs use to his full name being used and he doesnât exactly feel anything but annoyance that he has to leave the piece he has spent the better half of a week working on, just to answer your call.
Damian loved you without a doubt but heâs not exactly fond of whenever you try to follow along these tasteless âtrends.â Though he knows himself well enough to know that he would never stay upset or mad at you for long, you were his weak spot, his treasure forever and always even if this is the things they kept you entertained.
âI know youâre not saying my full name for any particular reason my treasure.â He told you rather plainly.
âAnd how would you know there isnât a reason I called for you?â You replied, crossing your arms over your chest. Damian copied.
âBecause I have a good memory and I havenât missed any important date, thatâs not until next week, that and the fact that I can see the muscles in your face struggling to keep the smile at bay.â Damian said as he pointed out your biggest sign that you were lying about something.
You always involuntarily smiled when telling a lie the title made it far easier for Damian to know that what you were saying was far from the truth. It was your Achilles heel and Damian knew how to use it to his advantage.
âIâm not.â You said, struggling to stop the smile.
âYou are and youâre doing a bad job at it my sweet.â He replied as he was now the one cockily smiling, knowing heâs got you where he wants you that you couldnât do anything but crack under his stare.
âFine you loser, I only called you in here to say I love you, there happy?â You asked as you pouted.
Damian walked over to you and pressed a kiss to your forehead. âAll you had to do is say my treasure.â Was all he said as he spent the rest of the day with you and Titus.
Jason is immediately in front of you within a heartbeat.
He, much like dick, didnât like it when you use his full name.
Youâre his partner! USE THE CUTE NICKNAMES YOU CHOSE FOR HIM INSTEAD! Whoâs this Jason Todd? He only responds to Jaybird, jay jay, or baby with the occasional sweetheart from time to time.
âChipmunk, can you please tell me want I did wrong?â Jason asked as he walked into the kitchen where you called him from.
You furrowed your brows. âWrong? I only called you in here to tell you I love you.â You replied as Jason started at you for a bit before he pinched your side, making you squeal.
âYouâre a little shit, you know that sweetheart.â Jason asked as he kept pinching your sides, making you giggle and squeal in his hold. âHad me all worked up and everything.â He adds as he starts biting your neck playfully.
âIâm sorry! Iâm sorry! Have mercy!â You cried, trying to push yourself away from Jason but it was proven nearly impossible when your man was a literal wall of muscle.
ââAll I can hear as the squeaks of a cheeky little mouse.â Is all Jason said as he continued to tickle, pinch at your sides. He hates it when you call him his full name, it reminded him of lesser then ideal times, sure it sounded far sweeter and loved when it was coming from you rather than theirs, but heâd much rather you call him anything it his full name.
Tim knows what youâre up to the very moment you use his full name.
His detective brain kicks into hyperdrive and goes into the logical explanation as to why the sudden change.
Youâve never used it before, so why now did you use it unless you had seen a cute trend or something that you thought was hilarious on TikTok, or on another social media platform and wanted to try it out for the sake of following whatever was the thing to do.
That or you were genuinely mad and he should at least go talk to you in hopes of de escalating the situation, should it come to it.
âI love you.â You said.
âYouâve said my full name, lured me out of my room, just to say I love you?â Tim asked with a raised brow as though his heart wasnât going nuts once again with how much your words easily affected him.
You paused for a brief moment before smiling. âYeah sounds about right.â
Tim sighs but he couldnât help but feel a smile creep up on his lips. âYouâre ridiculous sometimes I swear.â He says under his breath, âyou almost had me second guessing myself there but Iâm glad this is what you called me out for instead.â He finished as he pressed his forehead against your own, feeling relaxed and clear minded once more.
âYou may say Iâm ridiculous but you love it when I keep you on your toes, itâs like a brain exercise in a way.â You cheekily told him as you kissed his cheek.
âYou call that a brain exercise?â Tim said. âThat was barely a brain activity but more like a brain fart if anything.â He said as you pouted and smacked his bicep, causing him to smile.
âWe canât all be smart asses like you drake.â You said and Tim shrugged as he tugged you close.
âTrue but you certainly are a pain in the ass.â Tim replied, which only made you slap his bicep again as he chuckled and you bury your head into his neck.

In your baron konig au, do you ever see reader noticing his language insecurity and trying to learn his native tongue from his other workers?
Thank you so much for this ask, it gives me a chance to write fluff! It's definitely one of the ways I see them getting closer, because it shows her not just wanting to understand him, but those around her. Most of Konig's staff are from home, either coming over originally with him or when he makes one of his few trips back home.
Fair warning, this is going to contain a ton of Google translate, native speakers please correct me on what I get wrong!
âOh, good morning, my lord!â She bends slightly at the waist, a light bow to Konig as she met him where the staircase joined to the upper left wing of the barony. Standing upright at his nod of acknowledgement, her head turns as he swiftly strode down the hall and took in his frazzled state. In one arm he clasped several stacks of documents to his chest, paper developing light creases where his large fingers exerted too much pressure even through the thick paper. In the other he awkwardly gripped some quills, an inkpot, and the stamp bearing his familial crest. Having to go in the same direction, she saw as he almost dropped a quill then bent it with the force of him stopping it falling to the ground. It beat the alternative of him having to stoop all the way to the ground to recover it, she supposes. âUm, my lord?â She calls to him. His feet came to a stop, head turning slightly, eyes as cool as the outside air locking on her, a faint blue like ice water making her breath hitch at how it locks onto her. âMay I be of assistance in carrying something for you?â After a few moments of silent staring she almost took back the suggestion out of embarrassment, a massive man of his stature surely does not need help from a maid- âFedern.â She blinks, unsure if she heard correctly. He clears his throat before repeating himself. âCarry quills. And ink.â He held out his hand and she quickly makes up the distance between them (curse his long strides), taking the objects in her hands, fighting the urge to shiver when their fingers brush. Just like the previous times, his hands were so warm and firm.
They walk in silence down the halls, stopping at the front of the library, intricately carved oak doors barring entry. As he turns the handle she swallows, mind flashing back for a moment to her last time in the library in the duchy. With any luck, the memory would continue to fade the longer she worked here, each time she cleaned the room wiping away the bitterness with the dust and incense ash. Though, she thinks, I canât forget everything that occurred in that place. Just a fortnight prior it had been confirmed that yes, she was indeed carrying a Dukeâs child, not that he would ever know. Her saving grace had been that she was not yet showing, the reduction of stress and ability to hold down food courtesy of Annika helping her regain some of the lost weight, no longer wan and sunken inwards. She hadnât anticipated telling the head maid of her condition, at least not yet, but she hadnât a choice when she was caught leaning against a wall fighting off a dizzy spell at the end of the day. Good fortune then that much like her employer, her superior was of a better cut, keeping the news tucked to her chest with little more than a chastisement of letting her know of any changes to her condition and an order to have a quick, light meal of gently seasoned soup from the cooks before heading to bed.
She places the writing set down on the table he had chosen to work at before commencing her own tasks of dusting the books and wiping down the wooden furniture, eyes briefly glancing at the papers as he set about placing the stacks in some order that made sense to him. They were written in that foreign language she saw scrawled across the spines of the novels, most of the letters making sense to her but combined in a way that was confusing, lengthy words packed with consonants and vowels, dots pocked sparingly in some places. She wishes she could read them, understand the different stories that came with the Baron from his homeland.
As she works her way along the shelves, she canât help but take a few peeks at him, immersed in his tasks while hunched over his work in a way that makes her back ache. The air is mostly silent apart from the scratch of a quill and the gentle squeaking of a damp cloth. Shortly after though, a faint humming permeates the study, a tune she had grown familiar with in the month since her arrival. Konig was fond of this tune, singing the melody like he had no clue he was doing it, part of his routine when tackling paperwork. He had told her the name of the tune, accent making quick work of it, though she struggled to repeat it to herself.
Eye Popeeyah, she vaguely recalled, certain it was something like that. Gently wetting a spot on a plush chair, she waits for the tea stain to lift herself as she chances another look at the baron. He never notices when her eyes stray from the upholstery and she wonders if he even feels her eyes on him. Heâs a shy man, sheâs come to learn, content to keep himself tucked away from others. Perhaps he feels peopleâs gaze on him even when there is no one to stare, and so he doesnât register her. Perhaps she is so beneath him that he doesnât register her presence at all. Certainly not in the same manner as Duke MacTavish, she chews the inside of her cheek as she wrings out the washcloth and wipes the stain away, hands working at the spot even when gone as she unknowingly rests her eyes on him.
No, the Baron is not that kind of man. âHirsch?â She jumps, jolted from her thoughts, Konig staring seemingly down to the core of her. Her blood pools in her cheeks and she feels her face become hot. She could die of embarrassment at being caught staring, much less at her employer! She canât even tell what his expression is with his shroud in place, leaving her further off-kilter. âApologies, my lord! My thoughts ran from me, Iâll get back to work now.â With a ducked head she averts her eyes from both Konig and the large damp patch her mindless scrubbing caused the poor chair. Unfortunately, the next shelf to clean is the one directly behind him, so she grabs her duster and rags and makes her way over. He hunches in further, trying to scoot in to give her room but ultimately there is nowhere for him to go, shoulders pulled up to his ears to make himself smaller. His grip on his quill is tight, and the papers crinkle under his free hand as he writes, more akin to forcing the ink in than letting the quill do the work, and the humming has stopped, replaced with heavy silence only interspersed with more scratching and the occasional grumble. She feels guilt over it, how her presence in his home forces him into these uncomfortable positions. Itâs doubtful he wore the hood even at home before she came, and now here he is forced to curl up to avoid them touching.
Even still, as she makes her way along the shelves, the heat radiating off him permeates her dress, a welcome sensation compared to the bitter winter outside, the frost outside sharp enough to stop the maids from cleaning the windows lest the water freeze on the panes. Not that he or Annika would let any of them go cold, providing them extra bedding and thicker clothes as the cold crept along the floorboards. The rumors from other maids had been correct, that while the Baron might come across as strange and off-putting to some, he took good care of those who worked for him. It makes the guilt inside her grow.
This man has been so kind to her already, and here she is making him feel like an outsider. Forcing him to repeat himself in stilted English for her sake because itâs the only language she knows. He has always held himself in a stern and awkward manner whenever they cross paths, but she sees his discomfort grow when trying to string together conversation with the few visitors to the barony. She wishes she could speak freely with him and ease that stress a little, make him and the other maids not view her as something to be wary of. Just the other day she had come across two of the maids giggling and speaking in hushed whispers, the conversation so quick she couldnât make out much more than the occasional exclamations and snickers. Once they realized she was there though, they had startled in much the same way as the baron did, standing stiff with wide eyes before carrying on with their tasks. She tried to reassure herself they hadnât been gossiping about her, there was always a rumor of some drama occurring in town, but it was hard. It reminded her that she had no one she was close to here, no one to confide in about anything she saw that would set tongues wagging and eyes gawking. âWhat language is this?â She was behind him again, this time gently removing the dust from the tops of the books that hadnât seen much attention. Konig jumps, spooked by the sudden voice behind him, chair making a sound of protest as his upper back gently bumps into hers. Taking a moment to calm himself, he sets aside the letter with a harsh line of ink over the surface and frowns down at how it continued onto the table. âWas?â He asks, turning to look over his shoulder. She keeps her face turned to the bookshelf, hands fiddling with her rag once more. âThe language you all speak. Itâs the one from your homeland, yes?â An answering grunt is all she receives. âI wanted to know which one it was. There are so many books here in the library not in English, and I would like to read them once my work is finished. And-and I would like to be able to speak with the other maids, to greet them as they greet one another, or not require you to have to repeat yourself when giving instruction. I donât want to impose on them or on you, Iâve seen the frustration with having to translate conversations when out in town.â She canât help herself, having turned around and now locked in a staring match with him, feeling like a mouse surveilled by a wolf, the words tumbling free of her mouth. Her ears feel like theyâre burning, hands, twisting the rag around her fingers. âI would ask Felix or Annika, but theyâve so many responsibilities and I would hate to take up their free time. I would use the novels themselves, but I donât know all of the letters, they look similar but then there are these dots-â âUmlaut.â He cuts her off, eyes giving a slow blink. âWhat is it?â âThe dots. They are called umlaut.â He explains. âUmlaut.â She tries testing the word in her mouth. When he nods, she canât help her smile, pleased at getting it right. âOff days?â He asks in his typical manner, and she works to figure out what heâs asking. âAnnika has me scheduled off on Wednesdays and Thursdays, my lord.â He nods again, mulling something over. âCome to my office then. I will teach you.â She hears the drag on the âYouâre so busy though my lord, I wouldnât want to interrupt your work-â A gloved hand gently reaches up, thumb and middle finger pressing lightly on her cheeks to stop her from rambling a second time. âWednesday and Thursdayâ He repeats, accent showing on the 'and', Â âand the days you clean the office.â
He releases her when she nods, finishing his final document and reorganizing them while she blinks. She would take great care to follow his lessons, she just hopes he will be patient with her. As she prepares to start on the final task of restocking the fireplace and taking cups to the kitchen, she pauses. âMy lord?â He stops stacking papers, watching her from the side. âThank you for this. If I may though, could you teach me one phrase before you go?â She fights the urge to beam when he taps the seat in front of him.
The next morning, she gives in to the urge when she greets the other early morning maids at breakfast with a nervous and stilted âGuten Morgen, wie gehtâs?â and is met with excitement and smiles.

The hypocrisy of Jinshi and MaoMao
*light novel spoilers*
I just love how hypocritical MaoMao's nature is. She yells at Jinshi for being a 'Masochist' and yet we see that she's no different. Now, by definition Masochist is a person who drives sexual gratification from their own pain and humiliation, plus it relates to Jinshi's tendency to do self harm (like burning his skin with a brand)
And what is MaoMao's most favourite thing in this world?
POISON
She literally takes pleasure in consuming it and no one can convince me otherwise. Plus she uses dangerous plants and animals and snakes whatnot in the name of her so-called experiments. Her dad may call her a 'mad Scientist' but that is a direct indication of self harm.
And she calls Jinshi a Masochist.
I mean, think about it! The amount of anxiety she gives to Jinshi! She came prepared with a vomit inducing medicine but even she had no idea whether it would work or not. She was just hoping it would work in the salt chapter.
And the same goes for her hand, on which she has conducted countless experiments. One flower even burned her skin and its marks never left her skin. She said it was all for her hobby. What kind of weird hobby is that? Maybe, our little adorable mad scientist is just like that.
One brands his own skin, while the other takes heavenly pleasure in consuming poison.
So my point is, Jinshi and MaoMao are not that different as one might think they are and that's why their dynamic works so well.
Let's look at the excerpts from volume 5:
She didnât know how long they sat that way. All she knew was that Jinshi was looking down at her with a faintly triumphant expression, as if he saw that the breath had reached every corner of her body now. He wiped away the tears that had sprung to her eyes as she struggled to breathe. It was then that Maomao felt a flash of intense anger. âI said that if you were going to kill me, you should do it with poison,â she told him. âI refuse to let you poison yourself,â Jinshi said, his fingers tracing her lips. âYou canât pretend you didnât know that you were one of the candidates. As much as Iâm sure youâd like to.â He wasnât done, either: âWho was that man, anyway? Iâm sure youâre not a dancer.â So he had been watching them! âI was just paying for my drink,â Maomao said. âIt didnât cost much.â She tried to look away, but with his hand on her head, she really couldnât.
Jinshi just choked her and yet he refuses to let MaoMao poison herself. A lot of people misinterpret this scene, and don't like it all that much, saying it was just fanservice stuff but this is how I see it: Jinshi wasn't trying to kill MaoMao, he was just trying to make MaoMao submit to him for once (even if the way he did it was very wrong, but guess he's kinky like that). MaoMao is actively trying to harm herself and Jinshi loves MaoMao a lot, he cannot just let her kill herself.
It was more about him trying to exert his dominance in their weirdish - complicated relationship and that also backfires on him as we see in the next volume that MaoMao escapes Jinshi's grasps using Pairin's techniques.
And then they both continue to avoid each other in the entire next volume! Because they both realised that they have crossed boundaries.
They both are hypocrites.
And they both refuse to accept their feelings.
In one of the later volumes, she gives Jinshi a piece of her mind on how he should tell her everything clearly, unequivocally, what he feels, and he literally declares that "he will make her his wife", which is nice and all but look at the wording MaoMao used here....
Excerpts from LN Vol 7, chapter 19 called "A man and a woman play the game"
"Youâre forever telling me I need to use my words, Master Jinshi, but are you in any position to criticize? Everything you say to me, everything you do, itâs like itâs calculated to save you from ever having to actually say what you mean! To make me figure it all out! You know, you remind me of someone. You act exactly like a man who used to come by our brothel all the time. He was in love with one of the girls, but he would never just come out and say it. He thought it should be obvious from the way he acted. He was so sure he had a good thing going with this woman that he never sent her so much as a letter. I remember how forlorn he looked when someone else swooped in and snatched her away! He kept coming to the brothel after thatâto get drunk and whine to the ladies. Well, in my opinion, he could have avoided all that heartbreak if heâd told the woman how he felt. Clearly, unequivocally, so that she knew where they stood. It was the least he could have done!â
Everything came out in a torrent. She felt like sheâd said it all in one breath. It was strange, she thought, to hear so many words come out of her own mouth. She was mystified. Jinshi was no less startled, but the shock soon left his face, replaced by something else. He got up off the bed and stared down at Maomao.
Shit. Now Iâve done it. Sheâd given him a piece of her mind, and he was about to give her one back.
âSo I should be clear, should I? Unequivocal? I should say what I mean? If I did, would you actually listen to me? Is that what youâre telling me? Iâm going to hold you to that! Right this minute. Iâll say it all. Donât plug your earsâlisten to me!â He grabbed her hands as she was in the process of trying to put her fingers in her ears. He took a breath. He was looking at Maomao, but somehow he seemed almost embarrassed. Finally he managed, âNow listen to me, yâI mean, Maomao! Listen close! I am going to make you my wife!â
It's one heck of a chapter and I suggest you give it a go! The title of the chapter says "A man and a woman play the game" as if to emphasize the very fact that both Jinshi and MaoMao are playing the game.
Jinshi has never confessed his true feelings before this chapter and only implied that he wanted to make MaoMao his wife.
The implications were heavy though on Jinshi's part, and as smart as MaoMao is, anyone would have guessed that MaoMao was one of the candidates for Jinshi's consort. Even the clothes she received (the ones she wore to the banquet) were also provided by Jinshi along with the hairpin. It is never stated outright but seeing as the hairpin was from Jinshi, the clothes are also implied to be the same.
More or less she's always deliberately ignoring the possibility of having anything to do with him, that is more than professional. Some may call it denial, I call it dense. Maybe, to some extent, she herself is not aware of her feelings because she never lets herself feel anything.
Even Suiren pointed it out pretty early in the manga, that maybe it's MaoMao's way of being reserved. We need to keep in mind that MaoMao is an unreliable narrator and it's more of what she does, rather than what she says that makes a difference.
Even in the chapter that I have quoted above, she had every reason to leave Jinshi, she wasn't working for him after all. But she stayed to make tea for him, even after the fact that she had a long day too. She was almost just as exhausted as Jinshi and yet she was there preparing medicinal tea, so that he could get a better sleep.
Maybe she herself is yet to realise just how deep her feelings run. Till vol 12 she seems to have accepted them, but she still is yet to acknowledge their depth. Maybe it's because of her childhood.
It's not a traumatic backstory but MaoMao had a sad childhood nonetheless....
She was raised by her grand uncle and her real father was eccentric, who scared her. Her mother must also appear to be kind of demonic to her, since she was desperate enough to cut MaoMao's Pinky finger and send it to Lahan. So it's safe to say that MaoMao never received proper parental affection. And adding to the fact that, a brothel is not exactly an ideal place for raising a child.... especially when the birth of MaoMao was the one thing that brought the brothel to its knees...even if being born wasn't her choice.
Plus MaoMao stated it herself that when she was a baby, no one would come to sooth her until their work was finished, implying that even if MaoMao and her brothel sisters are close, they are not that close. A mother's love is different and she never received it. No one can love you more than your mother and MaoMao was deprived of that. She soon realised that no one was coming. Life is hard and she has no choice but to face it!
So, she got interested in poison.
Maybe she doesn't love herself or her life as much as she says / pretends she does. She's always like "yeah, I would very much like my head to be with my body" and "if I stay low profile maybe I can survive here" etc but maybe deep down that's not the case. Maybe that's why she loves poison so much. The implications are crazy.
And to break MaoMao's shell, Jinshi has no choice but to be a bit more forceful at times? At least that's how I interpret that choking scene. Jinshi was angry at MaoMao because she deliberately suggested him to marry consort Rishu and danced with Rikuson.
Even if Jinshi never said it outright, he was giving hints the entire time.
But well the tables turned and MaoMao topped him instead, lol (vol 7) and later we even see that our little stray cat has accepted Jinshi and she's ready to be in a relationship with him (vol 12).
Plus she is intrigued by the process of birth (she wants to eat her baby's placenta, it's kind of uggghhh.... but anyways, that MaoMao we're talking about, she's just weird that way)
Maybe not after too long she'll realise that if she has to give birth, she can only have it with Jinshi and no one else.

roommate!James x fem!reader ⥠1.5k words
James is buzzing while he makes breakfast the next morning. Golden morning light pours in through the front windows, brightening the kitchen and warming his back where he stands in front of the stove, the buttery smell of pancake batter wafting up from the pan. Heâd gone to bed later than usual last night and slept hard but woke jittery, desperate to do something about the commotion in his chest.Â
A run hadnât done it, nor had replaying the previous night in his head, and now heâs convinced he wonât be able to rest until he can kiss you again. Itâs your fault, really. Your little sighs, your careful touches, the way youâd tugged at the roots of his hair when he asked you to, like all this time youâd only been waiting for permission. Youâve fucked him. James will never be able to get over it. Now, all he can think about is getting more.Â
Heâs made more pancakes than a family of five could eat when he hears the stair creak.Â
âGood morning,â he says, turning around just as you pad into the kitchen, quiet as a ghost.Â
Your eyes are bleary, but they still manage to widen slightly as you take him in, along with the precarious tower of pancakes beside him. Youâre in that sweatshirt he loves so much, sleeves hanging limply from your hands and hem hitting just above your knees.Â
âMorning,â you say, softer than soft.Â
âHowâd you sleep, lovely?âÂ
You shrug, not quite looking at him. âFine. You?âÂ
James grins. âBeautifully. You want some pancakes?âÂ
Your gaze goes again to the stack beside him, and he can practically see the quip brewing in your eyes. Doesnât seem like I have much of a choice. Are you planning to feed an army?
âSure,â you say in that same quiet voice. âThanks.âÂ
James studies you, intrigued. âGreat. Câmere, sweetheart.âÂ
He plates up a few pancakes, keeping one eye on you as he does. You seem disinclined to look even in his general direction, finding distractions with the stove, your plate, the weather outside.Â
âHowâs this?â He turns around with the plate. You take it cautiously, by the complete opposite end to avoid any possibility of making contact with his hand. Jamesâ heart warms at the way your fingers just peek out from the sleeve of your sweatshirt to grasp the plate. He wants to kiss you until you donât know what day it is. âToo many? Not enough?âÂ
âThis is good.âÂ
âYeah?â He doesnât let go of the plate. He tilts his head, trying to catch your eye, but you evade him. He has a hunch that if he were to touch your face (and god, does he want to) heâd find it burning hot. âAre you alright?âÂ
Your eyes flit up to his for a half a second before fleeing again. You hum, the sound tense and pitchy. âMhm.âÂ
âYou sure?â he asks, matching your soft tone. âDonât go getting shy on me now.âÂ
You look like you stop breathing.Â
And ordinarily James might feel bad, but post-kiss James cannot be prevailed upon to treat you as cautiously as he ordinarily might. Unfortunately for you, your secretâs out. Youâre lovely, youâd said, voice soft and breathy and mere inches from his own mouth, I like having you around. I do. I really like you. Also unfortunately for you, post-kiss James knows things.Â
He slips his palm alongside your face, working his hand behind your ear and letting his fingers burrow into the hair behind it. You melt, leaning into the touch. Your eyes meet his.Â
Itâs grueling work to keep from smiling. âWhatâs wrong, angel?âÂ
âNothingâs wrong,â you say, still quietly but now with more of yourself in your voice.Â
âReally? Because youâre acting like weâve just met.âÂ
âDonât youâdonât things feel different to you?â You seem almost distressed, eyebrows hooking upwards just slightly, pretty eyes imploring. Your voice softens again, now more with intimacy than reticence. âI donât know what Iâm supposed to talk with you about.âÂ
James lets his smile loose, thumbing at the skin behind your ear before letting you go. âWe can talk about anything you want,â he says simply, grabbing his own plate and leading you into the living room.Â
Youâve got a perfectly good kitchen table but almost never use it, each preferring to eat your meals on the couch. He flops down, careful not to tip his pancakes onto the cushion as he crosses his legs underneath him like youâre at a sleepover.Â
âSo, have any fun dreams last night?â Â
You smile. Itâs as heart-stoppingly lovely as always, and James thinks his own probably doubles in magnitude in response.Â
âA couple,â you admit.Â
âOh? What about?âÂ
Your smile goes sheepish, bottom lip slipping in between your teeth as if to impede its progress. You fork clinks against the plate as you start cutting up your pancake.Â
Jamesâ brain short-circuits.Â
âYou were in my dream,â he blurts.Â
Your eyes flit up to his warily. âYeah?âÂ
âYeah. It was one of those weird, super vivid dreams where nothing really happens, you know?â You seem to relax a bit. James douses his pancakes in syrup, starting to cut them up as he talks. âWe were here, and someone had spilled something on the rugâprobably Sirius, to be honestâand it made this huge stain. Iâd tried to pour baking soda on it, but the whole box had collapsed and it got everywhere. We were both sitting right there scrubbing with literal toothbrushes, and I think I was worried youâd be upset with me but you were just laughing.â His heart warms at the pseudo-memory, the hazy feeling of contentment that had permeated the dream. The sound of your laugh, exactly as sweet as in real life. âYour hands were totally covered in baking soda, and the rug was ruined, but we were both laughing our heads off.âÂ
Youâre smiling again, a small, knowing thing. âHad you said something to make us laugh?âÂ
âNo,â he says honestly, âI think it was you.âÂ
James is aware that heâs barely functioning. Itâs almost too much to talk and cut his pancakes at the same time while youâre looking at him like that, like heâs the loveliest thing youâve ever seen. It makes it both a relief and a disappointment when you drop your gaze.Â
âDo you think the stain mightâve been a premonition?â you ask.Â
He raises his eyebrows. âHow do you mean?âÂ
You laugh, and heâs instantly spellbound, caught somewhere between fantasy and reality. It takes him a second to realize youâre touching the edge of his plate, tipping it up. James looks down. It had been nearly falling off his lap, his pancakes cut up into tiny pieces and syrup pooled near the rim.Â
You look up at him, seraphim with the morning light brightening your features and the hint of a smile playing on your lips. He thinks of how soft theyâd felt on his the night before, the way theyâd fallen open like welcoming him home.Â
âYou were almost spilling syrup onto the rug,â you say, that rare and beloved teasing lilt to your voice. âIt wouldâve taken more than baking soda to get that out.âÂ
âSee?â he asks. âYou know how to talk to me just fine.âÂ
You look surprised, then self-conscious, though not nearly as bad as when youâd come into the kitchen a few minutes ago. He covers your hand with his to keep you from going anywhere. Sets his plate on the coffee table.Â
âCan I kiss you?âÂ
Your eyes are wide. âAgain?âÂ
âYes, again,â James laughs. âAnd again after that, preferably. Only if itâs okay with you.âÂ
You shake your head, looking something akin to bewildered. âYeah. Yeah, please.âÂ
He starts to lean toward you, and you meet him halfway. Already, itâs a bit different. Thereâs no tentative stillness, no slow yielding. Your lips are pliant and eager, parting and closing around his like youâre trying to get as much of him as you can. Your fingers wind in his hair without instruction, and James responds by placing his hand in that spot youâd seemed to like it so well last night, the material of your sweatshirt soft beneath his touch. You taste like his pancakes, the syrup sweet on your tongue.Â
âKeep talking to me,â he murmurs, kissing the corner of your lips worshipfully, âokay?âÂ
Your voice is breathless. âWhy?âÂ
âBecause I like you.â He tugs at you, wanting you closer. âAnd I think Iâve put in the work for you to warm up to me, if itâs all the same to you.âÂ
You make a tiny, amused sound. âFine,â you say. You grow bolder, kissing your way up his cheek, the top of his eyebrow, until your nose is nestled in his hair and your lips are caressing his forehead. âConsider me warmed.âÂ
James grins, unable to help himself. He thinks that becoming your friend didnât go quite as he planned, but he feels as though he won in the end.

Matchmaking Mina
Fluff
Soshiro Hoshina x gn!reader
Your kind-hearted captain has taken it upon herself to stoke the flames of love between you and Soshiro!
Warnings: none
Captain Mina Ashiro may act aloof, but she wasnât blind. Anyone in the Third Division could see that you and Soshiro were the perfect match for each other. If neither of you were going to make the first move, it was only right that she, as your trusted leader, guided you in the right direction. Only, of course, after assessing the situation to make sure you two really did like one another.
*Click*
Her phone captured a snapshot of you at lunch one day, laughing at something Kafka had said. Your head was thrown back and your eyes were creased with joyâyou looked positively radiant. Mina made her way to Soshiroâs office, eager to begin her investigation.
âCaptain,â Soshiro saluted, âto what do i owe the pleasure?â
âJust stopping by. Checking on the status of your report from last week.â
âItâs almost done. Iâve been hard at work,â Soshiro grinned, sticking his pointer fingers out.
Heâs in a pleasant mood. Letâs see if that changes.
âGood. I also came to show you a new picture of Bakko from the other day.â
It was a plausible excuse; Soshiro was a fan of cats as well and Mina was known for subjecting her friends and subordinates to monologues about how cute Bakko was. The vice captain was now standing by her side, peering over her shoulder at the phone in her hand.
âHere it isâoops! Wrong picture.â
Your picture was the one currently being displayed and from her peripheral vision, she saw Soshiro gulp ever so slightly, his eyes opened a bit wider. She was in no hurry, taking her time to slide her finger over the screen to the âcorrectâ photo.
âSorry about that. It was a cute photo, though, wasnât it? Didnât y/n look nice?â
âHuh? Yeah. I mean, sure,â he mumbled, the tips of his ears a rosy hue.
Now for the real test.
âIâd never seen her laugh so hard, but I guess thatâs what happens when youâre around Kafka, right?â
There was an immediate shift of mood in the room, tension filling the open space like a dam had burst. Soshiro had gone from blushing to bloodthirsty in a millisecond and Mina was thankful sheâd been blessed with a poker face or else sheâd be bursting in laughter at his very apparent jealousy.
âIf youâll excuse me, Captain, I should finish this report.â
Soshiro saluted her again before sitting at his desk and Mina took her leave.
Well, that was informative.
Now she knew that Soshiro definitely harbored a crush for you and a hatred for Hibino. As she walked down the empty hallway, she let a small smile grace her lips.
She loved love.
Mina did the exact same experiment to you a few days later. As a fellow cat enthusiast, you were very excited at the prospect of seeing new Bakko content, quickly taking a seat next to your captain. This time around, she had managed to take an extremely flattering picture of Soshiro during training. He was standing outside, slightly flushed from the previous physical exertion, with one hand on his hip and the other pushing his hair out of his face.
Maybe if I ever retire Iâll become a photographer.
ââŠand thereâs Bakko-oops. Not this.â
Your mouth was partially agape and she spied how you couldnât tear your gaze away from the man on the screen. His tight fitting shirt hugged every curve of every muscle. His physique and pose were reminiscent of a model youâd see on a billboard in downtown Tokyo or on a runway in Paris.
âT-thatâs a great picture you got of Vice Captain,â you breathed out in awe. âHe looks so⊠hot.â
âIf youâre into that sort of look, sure,â she answered.
âI definitely am,â you said dreamily, clearing your throat with embarrassment when you realized you said that out loud. âI mean, yeah. If someone was⊠hypothetically, like⊠into that sort of⊠thing.â
Mission 100% accomplished; theyâre very much into each other.
Next up was the hard part of figuring out how to get confessions from the two of you without meddling too much. Thatâs why she was hoping todayâs training, with you being partnered with Kafka, would be enough to stir up those same feelings and visceral reactions you both had while looking at the photos of each other not that long ago. So far, it was working splendidly. Kafka would say or do something ridiculous, causing you to howl with laughter and Soshiro to shoot Kafka a burning glare that could rival the intensity of a wildfire. Meanwhile, Soshiro would take his frustration out on the sparring training dummies, in turn leaving you dumbstruck at the way he moved so majestically and remained the most handsome man on earth, even in a state of sweaty exhaustion. When training was finally over, Mina couldnât slow the buildup of anticipation deep inside her, eager to see the lovebirds admit their feelings, or at the very least, converse with each other. Neither of those things happened; you and Soshiro didnât even exchange eye contact before going your separate ways.
Mina frowned. Didnât she plant the seeds of attraction, water the foundations of a relationship, nurture the-
Looking back, I guess I didnât do all that much.
âL/n.â
You turned around immediately at the sound of your captainâs voice, saluting as the dark haired woman approached you. You had just finished showering after a grueling day of exercise and were on your way to your room to get some much needed rest
âCome with me, please.â
âRight now?â you asked incredulously, eyes raking over the cat pajamas you were sporting. âShould I change into my uniform really quick?â
âNo need,â she replied, âitâll only be a moment:â
âAlright then.â
You were thoroughly confused but who were you to question your captain? You followed behind her dutifully, like a child following their mother to the kitchen for a glass of warm milk after a nightmare. Your eyebrows knit in confusion as she brought you into Soshiroâs office. He, too, had just showered, but he had changed into a fresh tracksuit, presumably because he never stopped working.
âCaptain! What can I do for⊠you?â Soshiro faltered when he saw you peek out from behind Mina.
âIâm horribly underdressed for whateverâs happening. I sincerely apologize,â you said, bowing your head as to not meet his eyes. You werenât that far below Soshiroâs rank, being a Platoon Leader, but you didnât want your superior seeing you in such a state of disarray with your wet hair and casual attire in the office. Soshiro, on the other hand, didnât seem to mind at all.
âY/n! I didnât see you back there at first. I like your pajamas, cats are always a good choice.â His fanged smile brought you a sense of comfort,
âThank you.â
You two wouldâve gotten lost in each otherâs eyes if it werenât for Mina reminding you she was still there.
âLet me explain whatâs going on. Y/n, Soshiro likes you. Soshiro, y/n likes you.â
It was so silent you could hear a pin drop from across the base. You and Soshiro broke eye contact at breakneck speed, becoming self conscious and wary.
Mina was confused. Weird. Arenât they supposed to kiss or something, like how it happens in books?
âIâll leave you to it. Good night.â
Mina practically ran out of Soshiroâs office, getting hit with a whole slew of mixed emotions as she made her way to her own office. Was she wrong for getting involved in her subordinatesâ love lives? Did she somehow misread the signals you both were giving off? Was her conclusion incorrect, leading her to be labeled a fool, unfit for a leadership position? She fretted all night thinking about the lack of response you and Soshiro had about the great news. The next morning, as she got ready, she thought of all the ways she could explain her behavior and hoped this situation wouldnât lead to her getting fired (worst case scenario) or you and Soshiro feeling awkward around each other (bad case scenario). You two worked extremely well together, neutralizing kaiju with just glances and nods, no words needed, and sheâd never forgive herself for ruining such a good team.
Mina fiddled with her jacket one last time before lifting her chin up and making the trek to her office to start the day. To her surprise, the door was ajar, you and Soshiro apparently waiting for her arrival.
Goodbye Third Division, hello HRâŠ
âCaptain,â you began, âSoshiro and I really appreciate what you were trying to do for us, but-â
âI overstepped my boundary,â she cut in. âIâm ashamed that I let my self control slip and I put my subordinates, the people in my care, in an uncomfortable position. I donât know if I can ever regain your trust again, but I swear that I-â
âCaptain.â
This time it was Soshiro who spoke out of turn. âMy deepest apologies for interrupting you, but you donât need to be sorry. Your intuition was correctây/n and I do like each other.â
Mins couldâve cried tears of happiness hearing that, especially knowing that her job wasnât at stake anymore, but her joy was turned to confusion when she noticed you and Soshiro share a glance, making a wordless agreement, and then both reaching into your shirtsâŠ?
She watched with curious eyes as a chain entered your grasp, previously hidden from view under your shirt, a small ring hanging down from it. Soshiro did the same, a matching ring gleaming under the fluorescent lights. It was then that the inquisitive, intelligent, intuitive captain made the connectionâ
âSoshiro and I are married,â you said, sheepishly glancing over at your husband. Now it was Minaâs turn to be deadly silent. However, you could tell she wasnât upset, she was busy comprehending everything that was revealed to her.
âWe didnât tell anyone,â explained Soshiro, âbecause we didnât want it to become an issue at work. In retrospect, we couldâve hidden it a bit better.â
He scoffed and folded his arms across his chest. âThough Kafka doesnât ever seem to get the hint.â
âBut we know we can trust you with our lives and we shouldâve at least told you. Iâm sorry for lying to you, Captain Ashiro,â you said, your head hanging low.
Thatâs when you heard the strangest sound.
Captain Mina Ashiro⊠was laughing?
âThis was an interesting turn of events,â she eventually said, catching her breath. âIt turns out I was correct, but not in the way I thought.â
She strutted over to her desk, sitting down and starting the computer. âIf thatâs all you had to report, then youâre dismissed. Itâs time to go to work.â
She looked up one last time, quirking an eyebrow. âOr are you on your honeymoon?â

goads and goats | S.R.
telling your dad (who is also your boss) you're having a baby ends in him giving spencer a hard time
who? spencer reid x fem!reader category: fluff content warnings: accidental pregnancy, missed period, hotchner!reader, pregnant!reader, not proofread, dad!hotch, established relationship word count: 1.01k a/n: i have been so down and out about writing recently but i had so much fun writing this. i firmly believe that if spencer was dating hotch's daughter hotch would never let that man have a moment of peace.
âHeâs going to throttle me,â your boyfriend announced mournfully, holding the door open for you to enter headquarters, the two of you flashing your badges at security before passing through the metal detectors together.
Rolling your eyes, you reached your hand out and nearly dragged him into the elevator with you. He had been digging his heels in the mud all morning, even going so far as to propose playing hooky, which you were fairly certain he had never done in the history of ever. âHe is not going to throttle you. I mean, just imagine the HR implications,â you gently chastised, watching Spencer as he leaned against the wall of the elevator. âHey,â you said, standing in front of him, you placed a hand on his chest, âWe donât have to tell him today, you know. It could be our little secret for a while.â
Quicker than you expected, Spencer shook his head, âOf course, we have to tell him today. What would happen if you got sent out into the field?â He self-consciously readjusted the strap of his shoulder bag before looking up to watch the floor numbers rise as the elevator went up, âIf we didnât tell him because of my own reservations and then something happened to you, itâd⊠IâdâŠâ
Your chest clenched as his voice trailed off and you thought of the positive pregnancy tests that were still sitting on your bathroom counter. The tiny wad of cells that had been settling in your womb for weeks without your knowledge â until Spencer asked if you needed pads while you had been grocery shopping â was already so loved.
The first test had come back with such a faint line that you convinced yourself it was just a shadow of an indent on the fragile plastic, but the test you took this morning had been glaringly positive. Slowly, you reached out and took Spencerâs hand, intertwining your fingers as the door to the elevator opened and the two of you stepped out together, âNothingâs going to happen to me, okay?â
Taking a deep breath, he nodded while holding the glass door to the bullpen open for you, glancing up, you saw that your dadâs office door was open. As soon as you set your things at your desk, you looked at Spencer, nodding up the steps, figuring it was better to do this now than wait.
By Spencerâs math, you were approximately five weeks pregnant, much earlier than people usually elect to share their news. Still, both of you immediately decided it was in your best interest to let your dad know right away.
Leading the way, you knocked on the heavy wooden door to get his attention, his head snapped up in the direction of the noise, shoulders relaxing slightly when he saw it was you, likely having thought a case was being brought in. âDo you have a second?â You asked softly, nerves creeping up as your father waved the both of you in.
âFor you, of course,â he responded, nodding at Spencer in acknowledgment before watching suspiciously as the two of you sat in the chairs in front of his desk. âWhatâs wrong?â He asked, watching you fold and unfold your hands in your lap, it didnât help that Spencer looked like he had been called into the principalâs office.
You shook your head, âNothingâs wrong, Dad. We just needed to have a chat,â you told him.
Frowning, his curiosity deepened, âA chat?â Hotch questioned the word that wasnât a frequent flyer in your lexicon.
âA talk?â You tried again meekly, knowing that heâd start making his own conclusions if you didnât say something soon.
He looked over at your boyfriend, âIf itâs just a talk then why is Reid avoiding eye contact?â
Pinching the bridge of your nose, you exhaled heavily, âWe shouldâve waited,â you muttered to no one in particular.
âWaited for what, exactly? Youâre not splitting up, are you?â He inquired, likely developing a list of forms that would need to be filled out if the two of you had in fact broken up.
You waved your hand aimlessly in the air. It seemed that neither of you had fully understood how hard it would be to announce your accidental pregnancy to your father and your boss simultaneously.
Since neither of you spoke, your father continued, âIâm obligated to side with my daughter. Which isnât solely based on my belief that she can do no wrong, but if-â
âIâm pregnant,â you blurted, clamping your hand over your mouth as if you could recapture the words that had flown from your lips.
What followed was the silence that you had dreaded. Werenât people supposed to jump for joy in situations like this? However, the moment Hotch jumped for joy for anything would likely end in someone being institutionalized.
Slowly, you dropped your hand from your mouth, watching your father as if he were a ticking time bomb.
âIs this a good thing?â He asked, finally shattering the wall of silence that had been put up.
Your eyes widened as you looked between your father and your boyfriend, âOh, yes! Weâre very happy,â you clarified, bracing your hands on the armrests of your chair.
Finally, your dad smiled and stood up from his desk chair, waving you over and enveloping you in a hug, âThen congratulations,â he told you, pulling away slightly, âHow long have you known?â
You looked back at Spencer, who was standing up beside you and looking decidedly less nervous, âAbout ten hours,â he answered for the both of you.
Releasing you, your father looked your boyfriend up and down, âYou should probably get married before the baby arrives,â he suggested. You recognized the mischievous look on his face â you frequently sported the same look.
âRight, of course,â Spencer said, straightening his posture behind you, nerves once again emanating from him.
You held a hand up, âAn incredibly bold statement considering I was in your wedding,â you peered at your father.
Ignoring you, your dad continued, âSo, we should settle on a dowry.â
âDad!â
