Zeus: What are you talking about? I'm a very trusting person! I trust all of you.
Zeus: Except Poseidon.
Poseidon: That's fair.
Zeus: And Hestia a little bit.
Hestia: What??
Zeus: You're too nice, it feels fake. Like you're lulling me into a false sense of security so you can steal my organs later.
Hestia: Wha- I don't want your organs!
Zeus: That's exactly what someone who wants to steal my organs while I sleep would say.
Zeus: Hades. You can hide in shadows and you're always talking to people who aren't there.
Hades: Those people are ghosts. Ghosts who have helped us.
Zeus: Right, but how can I be sure that you're not using them to plot against me?
Hades: Why would I plot against you?
Zeus: I don't fucking know! But you could be. And that's the important thing to focus on.
Hades: That's not-
Zeus: And Dem! Look, you seem great. But. You know... there's just something there that worries me.
Demeter: And that is?
Zeus: Don't know! But it's there.
Zeus: So really I trust all of you, but not that much, save for Hera. Except, obviously, when I don't trust her. But it's mostly I do. Usually. Sometimes.
Zeus: Once.
Hera: Are you fucking kidding me?
Zeus: No, I've definitely trusted you one time. Sort of. A little bit. It was very difficult.
Hera: You have a problem and you need help.
Zeus: That's exactly what someone who wants me to fail would say.

sometimes the ghost of kelley puckett (he is still alive) haunts me. does he know. does he even know. he’s so detached from the comics community and he’s such a private guy (I RESPECT THAT WHOLEHEARTEDLY) that i really and truly do not know if this man knows how much cassandra cain means to us. does he know batgirl 2000 is heralded as the bible of dc solo books, as a lot of people’s favorite comic ever written. does he know how much we love cass. how we write essays over her character and how amazing she is and how she changed our lives. does he know how adored his writing is. does he know he wrote the best comics character introduction of all time. does he even. know.

It's still so crazy to me that Pac made it canon that Felps saw Cell maul him in prison. I wonder who he hated more in that moment — the perpetrator or the bystander

i just think it’s super interesting how icarus is so widely known as a greek myth, because while don’t get me wrong, it IS, we kind of have like. so little surviving greek texts depicting him. he was alluded to a lot, but the longest text we have with him only mentions his name like, twice, and his appearance lasts for three paragraphs max before his death.
a lot of the prestige and acknowledgement for the mythos comes from roman poets and writers, and i just feel like that’s. never acknowledged. icarus’ fall is kind of THE greek myth nowadays, when really, the fad largely should be attributed to the romans, as it’s their texts that would go onto inspire icarus comparisons and references in literature/media.

ASDFGHJKL
Just been talking to this npc and he was like 'oh hey!! Nice of them to send out a guy so soon after I sent my letter!' and when link did his little talking hand gestures my full expectation was the next words to be 'omg the hero?? Zeldas knight?? The champion of hyrule? You guys were missing it was all over the kingdom!!'
Npc: oh, so you're just some guy? Man, I thought they would have sent someone out by now, I've been waiting ages...
A) no you haven't
B) Link, WHAT????
Asdfghjkl??? NO WONDER he's been Tony Hawked he's not even introducing himself with his name??!
Actually... Given what other people have been calling him, I think he's been introducing himself as 'just a wandering swordsman'.
LINK THAT WAS YOUR FAULT THE WHOLE TIME???

Oh I suppose I can share.
So technically it's the Sonic of No Place that's the siren. Although now I'm considering exploring something where Sonic becomes the siren cause why not... His name is Spindrift (which i researched a bunch of water related words for the coolest sounding thing) backstory is that during a giant storm he fell off the Angel's Voyage and in a stroke of 'luck' he comes in contact with a magical gem (i'm still not sure if I want it to be the Paradox Prism itself or just something made up) that turns him into a mermaid. And no, mermaid wasn't a typo- but there's an explanation! >:)
Anyways, after the initial freak out he's like "I gotta find some way to reverse this!!" And although he tries to be careful about who he asks for help since he knows people can be assholes his plan goes awry. You see the plan was for him to hang out kinda close to a random docking place and then when a ship takes off he'd tail it for a little while and eavesdrop in order to figure out if they're good people. Unfortunately he wasn't being as sneaky as he thought and word got around of a mermaid being spotted in the area. As you can probably guess, this doesn't end well for him and he ends up captured by bad people and put onto a black market.
He goes through the wringer and is passed around/sold many times and despite trying to cling onto hope, one day he breaks. I don't have anything specific on what happens but one day he hits his limit and he SCREAMS at the top of his lungs in a mix pain, sadness, and anger. And the scream is abnormally loud. So loud it shatters all and any glass around him and ends up rupturing the eardrums of anyone too close.
If you guessed that means he went from being a mermaid to being a siren- you're correct! I even made some lore about it~
So basically when a mermaid gets consumed by hatred they turn into a siren. It's a very rare occurrence though, so there's not that many sirens in the world. Sirens are shunned by mermaids and despite their reasons for becoming one (like Spindrift was basically tortured) they're banished from anywhere mermaids reside.
There's a few main difference between mermaids and sirens besides the obvious siren powers gained upon transforming. Here's a list:
Can breathe above water for longer periods of time. This is how Spindrift managed to drag himself back into the ocean without suffocating to death. It was a really close call though.
They have claws.
More prone to anger.
Carnivores instead of omnivores.
Maybe a slightly longer lifespan...?
Anyways, Spindrift no longer trusts anyone else. Least of all blindly. In fact he actively hates what he (eventually) refers to as surface dwellers. After finding somewhere pretty secluded (which ends up being the Devil's Lighthouse) he settles down and makes the area his home. But sadly there are pirates greedy and daring enough to try and get to whatever treasures may lie in that area... and Spindrift hates trespassers.
After at least a few boat sinkings, somebody manages to survive and spreads the word about how there's a siren guarding the Devil's Lighthouse. Spindrift earns the nickname Rupture and, upon learning of said nickname, eventually embraces it. He loves the looks of terror upon people's already terrified faces when he reveals/confirms his nickname. It brings him a sick sense of pleasure that derives from the torture he endured at the hands of pirates. It was like payback.
When Dread first tries to get to the Devil's Lighthouse, he doesn't get enough of a good look at Rupture to to think he's Spindrift. Combine that with the fact that Spindrift was kindhearted and should be dead and the thought never even crosses his mind.
Then Sonic Prime happens... and boy is everybody in for a shock. And a bit of whiplash at the sight of Sonic. :p

Ducks favorite ninja turtle is Michaelangelo. Fakir claims he doesn't have one but secretly he is partial to Leo. Mytho's favorite is Raph. Rue genuinely doesnt have a favorite.

" oh dear .. " admittedly , she is trying to not smile too much over his clumsiness. she picks up a rather extravagant plate that he was using temporarily to shield himself from god knows what. perhaps a lady ? he is quite handsome after all ! " here is your hat back ! " she'd say , extending the item. " perhaps you can share where you received it from , c'est charmant. " she'd compliment.

Things about early drafts of Fakir I’m haunted by:
was referred to for an unknown period of production as “the black prince” (to Mytho’s “white prince“), including during the development of the 2001 trailer. (source) (source) (source)
machine translation of the last source: “Since the character of Fakir was still in the process of being set up, the "black prince" image that director Kawamoto had in mind at the time can be glimpsed in the [promo]. The deep V-neck was also in line with the concept.”
is presented as not just a (less tsundere and more, uh, aggressive) romantic option for Duck, but implied to be a romantic rival on the same level as Rue and Duck for Mytho’s affections in the 2001 trailer
production sketch of Fakir dancing with Rue, as Kraehe, when they have never once been on good terms in the actual final show: (source)

To me, children of Zeus are natural strategists in the same way children of Athena are. But the difference is that Zeus and his kids have multiple plans and contingencies if a plan fails at a certain point and needs to shift gears. So like they employ Plan A and get all the way to stage four of the plan when suddenly there's a deviation from expectations for whatever reason. So they shift gears from Plan A1 to Plan A2, which accounted for this deviation and continue on.
Athena and her kids, however, come up with one solid, somewhat broader plan and refuse to deviate from it at all unless there is literally no other choice, in which case they will improvise quickly and efficiently to accomodate the change and get back on track to the original plan.
#happy talks pjo#happy talks greek mythos#jason in the corner coming up with extremely detailed solutions to unexpected possibilities mapping out every stage and everyone's roles#annabeth is just you're gonna go fight this guy and you're gonna fight that guy and we're gonna try to get this thing and that's the plan#she can be detail oriented when the time calls for it (re: architecture) but she knows that life is unpredictable#so keeping plans broader to account for possible deviations while still being successful is more important in a battle#than you know whatever jason's doing#this is fully based off my hc of pre-war paranoid anxiety fulled baby zeus spending too much time at the whiteboard#and now he has over a hundred different plans of attack with multiple contingencies for possible deviations#and yes he wants his freshly vomited siblings to memorize every single one (they do not. he hates it)#jason grace#annabeth chase#zeus#athena#i guess one way to look at it as well is that athena and her kids pride themselves on their intelligence#so whatever plan they come up with is The Plan and that's why they try to shift any deviation back to The Plan#they are stubborn about their intelligence and planning for contingencies feels like they are telling people they are unconfident about it#where zeus and his kids understand that you have to account for unexpected changes that throw the plan off course#trying to get back to the original plan will be difficult and sometimes impossible so its better to move with it#so accounting for possible deviations (eg. betrayals or a change in schedule and so on) is important to achieving the main goal

Which tragic death would you suffer?
SAMHAIN - the prophetic hero
you die saving the world, as you were always supposed to. peace comes only with your blood. the world will remember you for centuries. they will write poems, create art, and film movies all about you. no one will remember what you were before your death. maybe you don't even know it either. you have spent so long saving the world time after time that there is nothing left of you except the heroism. you die never knowing love.
NIGHTSHADE - the worthless sacrifice
you die to protect something you love. it does not matter in the end. if it's a person, they still die shortly after, if it's a war, you still lose. your death means nothing. the only people who could've appreciated it will be gone quickly as well. you will die thinking you have done something, when really you have done nothing. perhaps that is the saddest thing of all.
AXEL - the betrayal
you die at the hands of the person you love most. maybe there are tears in their eyes as they drive the sword into your chest, maybe there is none. there are certainly tears in yours. your mouth will open to ask 'why' only to spit blood instead. you will die never knowing if they loved you at all, wondering if you could've done something to prevent this, or if it was always going to end this way.

Hey squad, I just got emotional over one of my least problematic fav classics hero, Odysseus, and how he went to war for a decade because he loved his family and how he spent the next decade searching for that family and how his family had such faith that he would crawl back to them that they waited the twenty years for him.

i love madoka magica however i dont think we as a fandom talk enough about how tragic madoka herself is. probably because the narrative itself steers you away from thinking about her personally. shes not a character shes a desire that homura has, shes a force of good, shes homura's foil. but those are all madoka's narrative roles but madoka herself as a person is not really looked at because we are viewing this world from an unreliable narrator(homura) who only sees madoka as those things. The best thing homura could have done for madoka was give up on her, to let her go. because every time we go back in time the image of madoka is distorted, she loses more of herself every regression of homura's as she tries harder and harder to save her. We don't even know what madoka originally wished for to become a magical girl in the original timeline. and she actually acts quite differently than the madoka we meet. shes a lot more honest and caring and bold. by the time homura's has reached the actual anime madoka has been reduced by the sands of time to a figment of herself. she has no wants or desires of her own beyond wanting to do good and help her friends and when all her humanity is stripped away is when she finally acends to godhood because thats all thats left of her. an ideal and a faith in her. madoka kaname died a long time ago and all that is left is her ghost.
#of course homura doesnt care anymore because she cant go back she can only go forward cuz if she gives up she killed madoka for nothing#she could have left her pass away with dignity but now shes a ghost stuck in a web of time and the only thing she can do is keep trying#to save her#i feel like inately homura knows this but she doesnt want to admit to herself thats shes the real one who killed madoka kaname#this is a very charitable reading of homura#homura died too but its a clear moment because homura is our narrator#homura akemi will never come back madoka kaname will never come back#but life goes on anyway for homura#heres my truth#i loved rebellion but im actually a bigger fan of the original anime's ending so im glad it seems like red ribbon homu is coming back#i thought that ending was a lot more hopeful and beautiful and rebellion was kind of a downer but i always accepted they were parallel#and seems im right based on posters#for walpurgis#madoka uses one of my favorite literary devices which is the underuse of a character#i dont know whats it called but i love it when they dont outright develop a character usually to signal an upholding of the status quo#i already explained how madoka is not shown as a character but they do this in princess tutu too with mytho#mytho is a character from a book hes not real in the way that the others are and therefore cant actually change like the others can#hes always the focus of others and never the one thinking of others#i mean yeah he spends like the whole anime thinking about tutu but thats PART of his book its not him as a person#anyway ive been talking too much but i wanna bring up my favorite subtle use of this in takopi's original sin#the boy#idk his name rn lmao#hes straight up not present for the bulk of the manga and hes legit just absent from the ending scene despite being one point of a triangle#at first that weirded me out like??? he doesnt get closure???#but the reason was he didnt need it#the focus and moral is that those girls were 'weird' unable to be normal (because of trauma) and their closure was theyre at least together#but he doesnt need that because hes already normal hes the status quo a benchmark for the reader for the reader to judge the characters off#and the characters to judge eachother off of#anyway anyway sorry this has been so long#i had to get all of that out of me
