So. Veilguard impressions so far (I’m about 13.5 hours in). Most of these are mechanical as I don’t feel like I’ve gotten enough time with the companions/story to have many opinions on it, but I feel like I at least have some opinions worth noting lmao (mostly no spoilers but like. Maybe a little so read at your own discretion)

Things I like:

I’m honestly still shocked my computer can actually run it and overall very well too

Character creator is super detailed, I love that

I keep falling off of ledges lmfao so I’m glad there’s no penalty for that

You can pet all the cats and dogs!!!!!

Also love that there’s no carry weight to contend with but I still get to pick up a ton of random items. It satisfies by urge to pick up anything that isn’t nailed down. This is great, especially after bg3 sksks (which I also enjoy as a game but pls why does gold have weight 😭)

So far I like the new companions a lot and I do enjoy these early game little almost… domestic? Or just small scale? Quests you have with them? Idk I dig it. I wasn’t sure about the ‘bond’ thing at first but on further reflection I like that you can gain approval-equivalent just by bringing them along. Makes things easier

I don’t dislike the vibes tbh like I’ve seen people say ‘oh it’s too happy and positive’ and like. Okay yeah 2 of the 3 companions you recruit early on are very bubbly but we also got blight horror all over the place so idk, maybe this is a complaint I’ll understand later but right now I don’t agree with it

Oh and I love the lantern system for when companions have dialogue - it’s a clever way of signifying when they’re all in different buildings

Things I don’t like:

I kinda get what people are saying about the handholding. Why do I need a little tip to tell me ‘[companion] has noted that you told them [thing you just said]’ 😭

Also while the new companions are fun, I do think Harding got hit pretty hard with ‘previous game lore dump’ duty cause damn. Admittedly I don’t remember her personality in inquisition super well but a lot of her dialogue just feels. Off in that way. I get it was necessary to do it somehow but. Oof. I feel bad for her cause it makes me less interested in her 😔

This is minor but I don’t like how when you load a save, it’s not actually where you saved. It’s at the last fast travel point. So it’s like. I found this hard-to-find spot last night. Saved. Planned to continue the quest the next day. Except! I have to find the spot again! And I forgot where it was! Why!!! This is absolutely a remnant of when it was a live service game but woof, why keep that in

Also bringing back the 100 save limit - actual worst feature of inquisition, why the hell would they keep it 💀 if anyone knows a mod to fix this, pls let me know, I need to have like 800 saves per run or I’ll die okay

And this is the big one tbh. I’m sorry but I really don’t like the combat 😶 like. Every boss fight is just the arishok fight except with help. Getting Lucanis has given some improvement cause now there’s at least another melee target on the field but at this point, I’m looking for a stealth option on that giant skill tree (why is it so big! I have no idea what I’m doing with it!!!) so I can go full skyrim (stealth archer) lmao. I’m hoping when I actually get to recruit a warrior (why is this the last class you get, that feels backwards), it’ll get more playable cause I’ll actually have a tank. Right now I just cannot understand why everyone says this is fun, I have had pretty much no fun in any of the fights (I’m becoming the person I was poking fun at before when I said it’s weird to play games if you don’t like half of it skskdk. Also ngl I would not be powering through if this were not a game I already had a vested interest in). Also how did anyone play a mage and make it through the first 10 hours, like I have NO idea. I’m very glad I didn’t, it’s hard enough with a rogue

Neutral observations/thoughts:

I’ve decided to play rook as like. A discount version of hawke? Cause I feel like that’s the kind of person varric would seek out, like a spark of the familiar is what drew Varric to them. And that’s adding a bit of fun headcanon flavour

(Also I have some suspicions that things are not as they seem with Varric but. We’ll see on that I suppose)

Also it’s funny cause I’ve always been a Solas neutral person (like him well enough but never understood why he was such a big deal to either the lovers or the haters). But I do find him more annoying here lmao. Maybe cause I’m rping too hard and Rook finds him annoying but I just think it’s funny

Also genuinely could not imagine this being someone’s first DA game sksks they are going to have no idea what’s going on lore-wise

I can’t help but think it’s sort of a pattern that tvdu fans prefer the women that are flashier and more pronounced about everything. Like the amount of hype for Caroline and Lizzie exceeds their counterparts and I think it has to do with a mixture of things.

Like in good faith, Caroline and Lizzie have the relatablility to the audience going for them. Caroline always felt like she ‘was never the one’, which is something a lot of people resonated with, and it’s also been made ‘cool’ to dislike Elena for the same reasons people bash Bella Swan. The writers had Caroline be the mouth piece for dunking on or shaming Elena unecessarily a few times, not limited to but including when she threw it in Elena’s face that her humanity had been off before and called Elena a hypocrite for telling her how bad it was despite the fact it actually wasn’t Elena’s choice and it was forced off by a (what should have been traumatic) sire bond to a man who was abusive to both of them. She was also given that ‘zinger’ (lmfao) where she told Elena she had a gift about making everything about herself when Elena was just attempting to tell her how much she would regret this and it would be traumatic, because she cares about her friend, which was completely reasonable. They went out of their way to have Caroline kind of speak for the audience about Elena at times and idk… It did not land for me, but I think people eat it up. Especially since Caroline also garnered a lot of the love interests and people in the tvdu fandom are mainly about shipping.

Lizzie had relatability to people too, firstly because she was a lot like Caroline. There are also a lot of neurodivergent people in fandom who probably appreciated the attempt at representation there despite Julie fumbling it most of the time. I still think there’s a reason why the gen audience can see Lizzie as so multi-dimensional but less so Josie or even sometimes Hope. This gets ‘worse’ the farther you dip into the casual audience. It’s not bad to have favorites and I’m not trying to shame anyone or say they’re wrong, lol, but I just think it’s interesting that it’s always the flashy characters that are loud and pronounced about their feelings and wants that people gravitate to.

Jenny Boyd gives a very campy, exaggerated performance as Lizzie and people enjoy it. Similarly, Katherine was the Petrova that was the most camp and people loved her the most, usually being dismissive of the others. I saw someone say this and it really stuck with me:

ignoring the mis-spelling of Rebekah because they were cooking. I would go even further and say it’s also, like. People want characters to be transparent about their stance and emotions. Lizzie often voiced where she was at, which is why so many people say ‘well at least Lizzie said she didn’t want to hurt anyone and she seemed to feel bad’. But like with Josie, she didn’t say that part out loud and some fans even noticed that Josie didn’t say I love you back to people most of the time. Like Josie is such a repressed character and she struggles with saying what she feels or wants out loud, which people don’t like as much. Sometimes they even assume worse things about her because of that unwillingness to speak on certain things.

Similarly, Caroline wore her heart on her sleeve and was praised by fandom but then when Bonnie didn’t feel like talking (to Elena or others or whatever) the fandom would jump on/disparage her sometimes or act like it was cruel. And then finally, Elena’s personality is much more muted, especially since we’re told at the start of the story that she’s (in Caroline’s words) in her ‘blah phase’ because of depression. People wrote her off pretty quickly as being boring or bland, and characters like Katherine call her dull and imply she’s bland too. This is seemingly in character for Kath to do so it’s not even a problem, but I think the audience took it as like the actual truth and just agreed, lol.

Idk where I’m going with this but I’ve just noticed that the understated or more repressed f characters in tvdu get less love than the flashier more camp ones. Some of this is just simple personal preference but I still wonder sometimes about all the influencing factors

“You’ve changed, Youngkyun.” You mutter tensely. Youngkyun always has the aircon set 2 degrees too cold in his car, and a shiver runs up your spine. You always hated the cold, yet despite that, you had stupidly fallen for him. He’s like a block of ice, yet no matter how much you tried to melt him with your warm heart, he stayed chilly.

Youngkyun grips the steering wheel a bit tighter, flipping on the left turning signal and turning onto the highway. His foot pushes on the gas slightly as he matches the speed of the other cars on the highway. He still doesn’t respond to you.

You let out a shaky sigh and look out your window, “Did you ever love me? Why did you ask me out a year ago if you never intended on paying attention to me in the first place?” You wait for a second, wondering if that would get him to utter even a word in reply— even just a hum that he had heard you. 

But, no. He’s always the same. Stuck up in his own world, self-obsessed and unfeeling. You wonder how his friends even put up with him? It’s as if he had no thoughts or feelings. Even when you tried to discuss something that directly affected him, he didn’t even care enough to listen. 

“I don’t even know why I agreed to date you. You’re such an asshole.” You tell him through gritted teeth, a bit louder this time. “I hope whatever poor girl you ‘fall for’ next drops your ass before you have the chance to brutally misuse her like you did with me.”

Again, he stays silent, spiking your nerves just a bit above the limit. Your eyes sting with tears but you blink them back. You won’t cry because of him. He doesn’t even deserve that much. You hear him take a breath, and you turn to look at him, wondering if he’ll finally say something back to you.

“If you had so many problems with me, then why did you decide to date me?”

You hate that response. You hate how calm he is when you’re about to reach your breaking point. You hate that he doesn’t have the decency to at least apologise to you before he spews more of his nonsense. It’s like a stab straight through your chest. If he had ever loved you, even for a second, he would at least apologise for upsetting you before interrogating you.

“Oh, so it’s my fault, is it?” You let out a laugh, and it’s filled with disbelief at his actions. “It’s my fault? I was holding our relationship together for months while you went out drinking and paid no attention to me! I always held out hope that one day you would treat me the same as when we first met. But since January I’ve never seen even a speck of feeling in your eyes. Is it amusing to see me try so hard!? Do you find joy in my struggles to get this relationship to work— only to inevitably fail cause it will never work out with just one of us trying?” You spew, letting all your built up frustration flow out, hitting him like bullets. You were sure he had already built a repelling force field around himself to block you out; one that would only make the bullets bounce back to hit you.

“You wasted your time trying to get it to work.” He whispers.

“I wanna get off.” You breathe out, feeling like the doors of the car were slowly closing in on you. It was suffocating being in the same cramped space with Youngkyun, where everything just brought up old memories.

The necklace that you had gifted to him was still hanging from the rearview mirror. He had never worn it. You realize in an instant that him hanging it there wasn’t a compliment to you. He never wanted it in the first place.

“We’re on the fucking highway, Y/n.” He points out, as if you weren’t capable of noticing that before.

“Just pull over and let me out here. I’ll get a fucking taxi.” You spit back angrily.

“Shit, you’re so impatient. You can wait 5 minutes for me to reach this exit.” He says angrily, somehow pushing your anger up even more. You let the first tears slip down your cheeks. You hate being around him in this way. You feel like he’s slowly ripping you to shreds— limb by limb, leaving you broken beyond repair.

You do your best to stay silent and not let your muffled crying reach Youngkyun’s ears. It would be too humiliating for you to bear. The 5 minutes it takes to reach the exit feels like 5 hours. Youngkyun pulls over to the side of the road, stepping on the break harshly. You jerk forward slightly, and wonder if he’s doing it on purpose. You open your car door in a rush, trying to get out as soon as possible, but you feel him grip your wrist. You turn back around and stare at him, eyes burning to take in his features one last time.

“I’m not the only one who changed.” He says slowly before letting go of your hand. The blaring honks of cars behind you is almost deafening, some of them trying to find a way to get past Youngkyun’s black car blocking the road without causing an accident. You get out of the car and slam the door shut without another word to him.

It takes a second to register your reality. You stand still on the sidewalk for a few minutes, breathing in the crisp cold night air and letting the tears fall freely. You don’t know how far away from home you are, but you know that you’re not in any hurry to get back. You just soak in the moment. You were done with him— finally, you were free from him. You wanted to laugh, but it just came out as harsher sobs.

2. What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year?

Not sure if this counts, but I did my first multi-fandom exchange this year for the Rare Pair Exchange, and while I did get to do my main gift for the fandom I signed up for, I did my first ever pinch hit and it was for a fandom I wasn't a part of (a book series I have read, just not involved in the fandom side of it). While I prefer to write for fandoms that I'm excited about, it was a really interesting challenge, and I was so pleased that my pinch hit giftee loved it!!

Alternatively, I tried doing some shorter fics. I struggle with brevity - I always need to have everything explained/get into a lot of detail/my plots tend to get very complicated and involved, and so my fics always either end up very long or they languish unfinished in my wip folder. So I tried a couple very short fics, intentionally aiming to keep them short/limited to one scene, and it was an interesting experience! I think I have more fun with the long, complicated plots, but the mini fics do give a nice little boost/that sense of accomplishment of "finishing" something, which is really nice!!

30. What would you like to write next year?

I have SO many wips and/or ideas that I want to get off the ground, but here's the ones I am most excited about in no particular order: For DGHDA:

Continue the Pushing Daisies AU - idk if people are still interested, but I had a lot of fun making the intro to the series for the Big Bang and I have a lot of plans for where I want to take things!

Hanahaki AU - I've had this wip in progress for like 2 years now and I've written the first ~2ish chapters. I have about 8 others planned and I've been kind of struggling with the first ~4-5 chapters following the plot of S2 and worrying that I'm having a hard time striking that balance of following S2 without feeling like a boring rehash, if that makes sense? I'd really love to finish it and get it published though. I've done some worldbuilding with the trope to fit it into the canon of DGHDA in (what I think is) an interesting/believable way, and I'm excited to share it with y'all!

For MASH:

Hawkahy Slowburn Longfic - I wrote what was supposed to be a PWP oneshot this year but then (see aforementioned allergy to brevity) my brain decided it needed a very long slowburn to lead up to and then also decided it had an angsty end which means I now have to extend it further afterwards too to get them to a happy ending lmao. But I'm very excited about the porn I wrote lmfao so I'm hoping to get the rest of the longfic written so I can publish it all next year!

Hawkahy Taking The Fifth Oneshot - Basically that episode but where Mulcahy is the person behind "Chastity's" note. Another WIP that I've had going for about 6-8 months lmao. This one shouldn't be too hard to finish I just need to focus some time on it.

Beejhawk Queer Club Angst - This is actually one of the first fic ideas I had when I joined the fandom and someday I'll write it lmao. Basically post-war Beejhawk, they go to a gay club and it gets raided by the police. Will have a positive ending bc I can't do angst with no happy or at least hopeful ending, but the whole idea was heavily influenced by my favorite book of all time, Stone Butch Blues, and I want to reread it before I dig into that fic.

Sidhawk San Francisco AU - This is a fic that @siriusnebulae and I spent some time plotting this year with the intention of co-writing and I'd love to get back to it! Won't get into too many details since it's not just mine, but it's a canon-divergence where they meet post war instead of during it and I'm very excited about it!

There are more but those are just a few that I'm particularly excited about!

hi lovely <3 this has been sitting in my asks for well over two months so you're probably not as new anymore (very sorry 😭) but i'd still be happy to share some stuff! ofc the first thing i'm gonna tell you is to stay safe; holding your pee for over ten hours can put you at risk of a UTI and other health problems (though i think the time amount varies from person to person), don't drink too much water (CDC reccomends no more than six cups in one sitting), make sure to clean yourself after holds if you wet your clothes/bare skin, all that jazz. but assuming you already know the basics, i guess the biggest tip i can give you is to be kind to yourself. which i know sounds like so basic and corny buuuut this kink can be super isolating especially offline and a lot of shame can surround it. personally i've been lucky enough to not feel weird or "gross" about liking piss but i do experience a lot of shame about just like... being sexual in general, yk? so i want you and everyone else who's either new to the kink or struggles with that kind of thing to remember that if you aren't harming anyone else then there isn't anything wrong with what you're doing. the best way for me to look at it is, even if it is "weird" or "gross", it's literally no one's business but mine (and the people i post it to lmfao) so that's important to keep in mind. you're not bad or wrong for having this kink, no one is entitled to know if you don't feel comfortable with it, and, if there's some circumstance where someone does take issue with it, that's their own problem because they're the ones inserting themselves into your personal business. that's the real weirdo behavior.

anywayyy most of my advice is just based around what i do personally so take the rest with a grain of salt because everyone has different yucks and yums when it comes to omo. if you like holding but get grossed out by actual piss itself (like me, unfortunately) and/or don't like the cleanup, i'd reccomend holding in the shower. that way you can just clean up in there, plus the warm water makes it sooo much more of a challenge. when it comes to navigating kind tumblr i've found that blocking tags + accounts that are related to your limits is your best friend; don't ever feel guilty or bad about not interacting with content you don't want to see. or people in general. no one on or off this app is owed your time or energy if you don't want to give it simply because you happen to share a kink. also if you're afab (idk if it's the same for amab), having an orgasm with a full bladder is TOP TIERRRR, would 100% reccomend. i myself am more into the desperation/wetting side of omo so i don't rlly have anything to add for other aspects of the kink. everything i've read (yes i did research for you anon 🥰) says that it's unlikely for urine to do bodily harm if you like getting pissed on/into or pissing on/into someone else; i assume it's the same for oral consumption but i'd suggest you read up on that yourself to make sure. honestly just do that in general; make sure you do proper research and figure out the safety of things before you try them yourself.

I wouldn't consider myself a military fiction sort of person, but similar franchises that come to mind, (destiny, mass effect, etc) also portray orders in a military setting as being optional for the main characters, that heroes can go against the grain if they know in their hearts it's the right thing to do, and don't face consequences, because things always work out in the end. this can partially be attributed to being games instead of a non-interactive media like a show, but it seems to me like the option to disobey an order is something a main character very often has in fiction even if it's unrealistic, displaying either a misunderstanding by the writers or an attempt to make a military hero more palatable to the general public.

omg yeah absolutely, it drives me insane every time in pops up in stuff like video games and other tv shows, where the Main Hero gets to disobey a direct order, not die, and then miraculously pull of a huge save, and not face any consequences. this even bothers me in pacific rim, where raleigh has a very anakin-esque attitude and that little nerdy doctor does the stupidest thing possible and saves the whole world because of it

i guess it especially bothers me in tcw and tbb (even though, like, theyre kids shows, its fine, this is something that even adult military fiction frequently fucks up) because i really see the inhibitor chips as the writing team scrambling to reconcile fucking this up with the ending that has to happen and pulling out mind control, which is second only to time travel on the list of Total Clownshoes Scifi Tropes to me

now that i've claimed to like miltary fiction i'm struggling to think of more examples lol. Halo Kilo-5 Trilogy also did 'following orders is good actually' really well, but that's not surprising, because kt wrote that too

murderbot does pretty decently although i don't know if that counts as military fiction. murderbot has to balance appearing to follow orders with its own limited expression of free will, especially at first, and is Extremely annoyed when the dumb humans dont follow the orders it gives them for their own safety

that episode of the mandalorian where din has to deal with that fuckin newbie does it well- the kid doesn't follow orders, nearly dies multiple times, almost gets everyone around him killed, improvises at the end because he thinks he sees an opportunity, and gets his ass killed in the end for it. ten outta ten very satisfying, because in another story, that idiot would have won

andor did this pretty well, in that when cassian improvises he causes himself and everyone around him enormous problems, and luthen's entire Thing is very much about putting the collective good above heroism, but andor did literally everything well

i think you're totally, completely spot on here. i suspect it has something to do with how western society values independence and heroism over a collective good. we love to see our hero Stick It To The System and Follow Their Heart, and then Come Out Victorious and Prove All You Boot-Licking Cogs In The Machine Wrong

hell. even repcomm DOES do this. the skirata band explicitly disobeys so so many orders, breaks out of the system, and comes out (mostly) victorious. i guess i'm fine with that because of the context and how the system they're sticking it to deserves to be escaped from, and they don't do it as an individual, but as a collective that has to be very, very careful with how and when they go about disobeying orders

i sort of laser focused in, but everything i'm saying about orders applies to improvisation, too. in hard contact specifically, omega squad plans their asses off and still has to improvise at the end, and it's actually treated as extremely dicey

and then there's the bad batch that never does any recon whatsoever and just runs blind into most situations, narrowly avoids death through sheer luck and Main Character Gumption

vampire the masquerade is actually a ttrpg originally published in the 80s i think, but it keeps getting updated so its not like. anything super old... whenever i mention "vampire the masquerade: bloodlines" im talking about the 2004 videogame created based off of the ttrpg! im biased in loving vtm and vtmb since well. it's about vampires. but i think it's an unique take on them that like makes the supernatural aspect not too boring compared to the classic supernatural vampire take. since it involves clans, a lot of vampire politics and societal aspects to it all, etc... Bloodlines itself is not a perfect game (ill avoid geeking out too much about the brief dev hell history it had) but i value it so dearly bc its so 2004 and is so gothic/alternative in its genuine influence. also the story is goofy but really good too (with um, simultaneously, the con that It Is a 2004 Game, meaning it has a lot of weird bigotries that were normalized for the time lol). Unforchy it's almost unplayable without downloading an additional patch mod that restores also a lot of cut content ^_^ but you make do... its so easy to make ocs for the game and the general ttrpg, sooo many ways you can go with your characters!! Bloodlines itself as a game is an action/adventure RPG mostly focused on combat (with stuff like stealth sessions) as well as various ways to resolve different quests. the variety of said outcomes is mostly limited by the fact the studio wasn't able to polish the game at all for release due to activision, the publisher, pushing troika games (dev team) to release the game early to compete with half life 2 at the time (yeah crazy i know). that said, the dialogues can be really charming and fun and offer a nice variety of things to do.. its not perfect but seriously is the best vampire RPG game around so far..

killer is dead is completely different (mostly because i can never focus on one thing for too long lmfao), it's an hack and slash 2014 game created by suda51 and grasshopper manufacture (same game devs behind no more heroes, lollipop chainsaw, shadows of the damned etc) and it's. an okay game. i dont even know if i can explain the story bc its like, a clusterfuck. and usually clusterfuck stories are goichi suda's specialty but this one goes over the moon (funny joke if You Know). it's a pretty mid game. I love it on one hand bc its easy to play and very stylish, tho the shaders sometimes can give you an headache. I also love the protagonist (mondo zappa) because to me thats a butch not just some guy. Unfortunately the game has the very strong cons of being too short for the kind of game it is, and also has an infamously bizarre minigame that's called "gigolo missions"... you basically go on "dates" with beauties (sexy girls basically), you give them gifts until they 'love' you and then you go have sex and they give you weapon upgrades as a result. the date though consists of you building up your "guts meter" by looking at their boobs or legs so it's like. REALLY STRANGE. CANT HASHTAG IM SORRY FEMINISM OUT OF THIS ONE I'M AFRAID.... it's so conflicting bc apparently suda didn't want to add this function but publishers forced him to. oh well. a solid 6.5/10 tbh. idk if i'd reccomend it tho maybe gameplays are better than getting it at full price imo (i got my game as a gift)

Maybe the timeline, too, because the main game (post-Hostage chapter) takes place within a week, which... feels a LITTLE fast for a revolution and relationship development lol

Oh love this question—listen, I love this game. I think there are a lot of good qualities, but I can also recognize it’s totally imperfect. In MANY ways

First off, I completely agree about the Alice thing. I feel like it was something added just for the sake of being a plot twist and really weakened their story. Not to mention the plot holes it generates that are technically able to be explained, but you have to stretch the narrative to make it do so (for example: how Todd could afford two androids, was Alice deviant or was she just programmed to be more emotionally available to fulfill human’s emotional expectations of a child, etc, etc). It also took away a lot of cool opportunities with Alice and Kara. If Kara had to actually be responsible for finding Alice food on a regular basis or finding her clean clothes or places to bathe. It would’ve been interesting to see how much more Kara would’ve had to venture into public spaces to fulfill Alice’s needs and there could have been a sort of peaceful vs violent route for Kara—whether she chose to tread carefully to get Alice what she needed, or demand it/take it by any means necessary. Not to mention how heartwarming a narrative of a human girl and her android mother would have been—getting to grow older under her care.

Also what you mentioned about the timeline—I agree. It was too short. I think a lot about the depth of relationships the characters could’ve had if they had spent more time. Hell, even just one month as opposed to a week. It really cheapens the effectiveness of any romantic relationship in Markus’ route especially cause it just feels unbelievable.

I also really wish that Connor had deviated because of Hank. Which I admit, is maybe a little corny and definitely a tired old complaint LMFAO And I get why Markus was the one who pushed him there, because he actually pushed him, whereas Hank sort of just watched in awe from the sidelines as he saw signs of humanity in him. (But to be fair, Kara and Markus both deviated without a push from an encouraging individual too, the circumstance just demanded it). But if maybe the story had a longer timeline, maybe they could’ve reached a point where Hank had encouraged it. Or sort of an Alice and Kara deal where Connor deviated for the sake of protecting Hank in some scenario. Maybe if Connor was supposed to report back to Cyberlife to be decommissioned due to how long it was taking him, but Connor knew Hank would be vulnerable to some instance—something like that.

And don’t even get me started on the way the revolution is handled/public opinion or Markus’ limited romantic options. But I’ll stop there cause this response is already crazy long LMFAOAO

One unfortunate thing is that my Sharena thoughts are definitely harder for me to grasp... they do have to come to me in a vision LMFAO (THIS. Is going to be a little messy bc of that I think!)

But lately I've been kicking myself over the fact that the Sharena autism didn't kick in for me while Dragalia Lost was still in service, so while I have a huge pile of Alfonse screenshots I have BARELY any of Sharena.

This dialogue stuck with me a lot though! And something SUPER cute tbh is how her cooking has been such a consistent part of her character, that it's mentioned in Dragalia, and continues to be mentioned in more recent FEH moments

(Cannot remember if that Alfonse dialogue is from a Forging Bonds -- I feel like it may be -- but also I feel like it could be from Book 7 too??? Either way it was recent!)

Other aspects I was exploring were slightly incompatible ways of loving/showing love. Where Sharena is wired towards physical affection, and may not fully internalize something unless it's directly stated and clarified for her. Which! I think is also a brilliant catalyst storytelling wise, to set up just how severely lonely she felt. That, Henriette and Gustav aside, plus generally being isolated from the world... maybe, especially as a child, it was hard for her to conceptualize that Alfonse DID love her. Leading her to feel even more alone, even if there was at least one person who loved her. Even if that person was with her most of the time.

(that last bit is something I've especially had to consider deeply.... bc their relationship IS so significant to me. How is it, she ended up in the dream realm? Despite being loved so dearly?)

I am sorry all of this is in relation to Alfonse btw 🥲 LIKE. I do tend to write from Alfonse's POV (third person limited? Never first person, but very much told from his perspective/knowledge/feelings. Meanwhile important info about other characters' emotional states is show don't tell, implied, ect). Which results in something funny sometimes where like. It Is focused on Alfonse, sure. But Sharena IS the core of it all, actually. Sometimes, to the point of haunting the narrative... just a little bit!

i love blade (also holy shit hello second blade ssr, goddamn.)

so anyway i just started playing nu: carnival lmfao. I heard of it awhile ago, but at the time had no interest in mobile games. And then I got an ad with like the animated opening and thought 'huh, that's cool. You know what? I'm gonna give it a shot.' so blah blah blah. anyway the second i saw blade, i knew i loved him. he's my favorite. (ngl his appearance reminds me a lot of floyd leech from twisted wonderland. except brighter. and from the few appearances ive seen of him from going through the current events and reading the wiki page on him a little, he's like. kind of more. innocent?? naive??? uhh. ye.)

so. then i spent the next 9-10 hours grinding up as many of the thingies that you use to wish as i could. because it lasts until the 4th. and i think the timezone's different cuz the other event due on like the 4th too had like '[] hours left'. (i took a nap at one point tho)

so for one. i am very lucky that he was there (what are the chances). and two. holy fucking shit. i fall way too easily to gacha time limits temptations lmfao.

anyway my hands hate me. ive mostly just been replaying chapter battles (ive just finished the fourth now, idk how many there are) to get my level up cause i also wanted to finish reading through the story of the event that was due soon cuz i was stuck since the enemies were too strong. i did tho so yAY. Worst part about being in fandom is, you see a group of people who create, and who love to write/draw/whatever for a certain ship and then. You see the 'other ship' people and it's just. Them complaining and being annoying and bitchy towards the first group and then saying they don't have any good fics/art/etc. Like idk how to break it to them that they kinda have to do the work, too!!

right!! i'll say thankfully my experience has largely been that these people are the minority in most ships i've seen, and i do have some sympathy for the feeling bc like. ghsdhgshdg been there many times. i have never picked the popular ship in any fandom to make fanworks for. but when an online space becomes centered around complaining rather than a place to celebrate the ship & get excited together, it's extremely offputting to people who may otherwise be open to shipping it, and therefore, like, really counterproductive lmfao.

wholeheartedly support bitching in private with friends whenever, but i think it's best to limit the amount of negativity you bring into fandom spaces. i don't think negativity needs to be at a zero (i, too, love to be a hater occasionally) but it's not very fun if that's like. the majority of what you do.

also. sometimes you do see people complaining about the lack of fanworks while also just not engaging with any of the fanworks they claim to want in any way. again, counterproductive and also frankly confusing.
