I was poking fun at how unexpectedly silly the CHB kids looked in armour in the first two episodes of the PJO show (acting like an almighty army and all) and then it hit me. This is exactly how some of them will look like when they will be dying in the final battle. Silly. Tiny. Literal children
#i'm sorry i always knew that they were children but#when i read books the characters' ages. idk. don't really register completely#maybe it's because i know their internal pov and don't hear their voices or see them#but these are. 12 y/os#fighting things#and only now that i see an actual live action rendition of pjo do i realize the weight of it all#they're so young oh my god#percy jackson#pjo#pjo tv show#lonely thoughts

HoO is so funny to me when you actually think about the ages of all the characters. Octavian is 18. Percy and Annabeth are 16, almost 17. Reyna is presumably 16. Frank just turned 16, Jason’s about to turn 16. Leo and Piper are like 15. Hazel’s like 14 and a half, and Nico is 13.
The Death Sibs are both the youngest and oldest on the Argo II. Octavian is a college freshman getting into petty drama with a bunch of high schoolers. He gets told to shut up at one point by a random 8th grader. Everyone is scared of the 8th grader. We Sent A 13 Year Old To Superhell and he came back weirder, Just Like Middle School. TLH was just three high school sophomores being sent to do a task and it going Exactly Like You’d Expect. Percy’s the only demigod on the ship who can legally drive (though Reyna gets her drivers license at some point before TOA). What Is Happening.
#pjo#hoo#heroes of olympus#riordanverse#my second favorite thing related to this is like every time Hazel references someone's age especially in SoN it's just. blatantly incorrect.#she goes into very specific detail about how she's 14. detailing like exactly how many months it had been since her birthday#and when she died and when she was brought back. just like ''okay. im 14 and a half. got that? good.''#''anyways here's Frank. he's 3 years older than me'' like literal next chapter. we are told Frank is not 3 years older than her.#Hazel: Here's my older brother! [Nico is younger than her in literally every way feasible]#ive just decided Hazel is an unreliable narrator who is just really bad at guessing/remembering how old people are#which like. adhd mood. forgetting how old everybody is.#and she has the bonus excuse of saying her sense of time is skewed from being a ghost for so long#but it's just so funny every time she's just. with the upmost confidence. blatantly the wrong answer.#i want a scene of Hazel looking at Percy and just going ''hm. I bet he's like 20.'' and then learns he's 16#and she's just [surprised pikachu]#also we know it isn't an error that she's 14 cause in TOA she's like ''oh yeah im learning to drive!''#so she's 15 by then#it is however an error that *Nico* is said to be 14 in hoo cause he's 12 in TLO and 14 in TOA#but we know in HoO the reason that error was made was cause Rick hadn't figured out Nico's birthday yet#and he was flipping it between January or March#so he just forgot how old Nico is for a series and then we went back to normal

Currently thinking about the ending of battle of the labyrinth, specifically wrt Dionysus
pov your son has just died. you've had children die before, obviously, plenty of them, but aside from Pollux you've spent more time with Castor than all of your other children combined. You didn't have kids before you became a god, and you don't have any divine children worth mentioning. This is quite possibly the first and only time you've experienced actual parenting. Castor and Pollux are special. And now one of them is dead.
Castor is dead because of Luke, a kid you've known for years, a kid you watched grow up, a kid who, as head counselor for the biggest cabin in camp, you had to deal with a lot more than most of the other campers. You don't care about Luke, really, no point in getting attached to every demigod who comes through, but you knew him and he was your responsibility. And now your son is dead.
Luke got in because of the Labyrinth. Because he had an artifact to guide him through. Ariadne's string. Your wife's string. The string she gave to Theseus, before he broke her heart and betrayed her, leaving her to die if you hadn't found her and fallen in love. Ariadne, your wife, who is not the mother of your children. The woman you very much cheated on to have those children. One of whom is dead now. Because of the string she made for someone else who betrayed her trust.
And now some goats are trying to get you to punish one of the people who helped drive off the invading army, indirectly keeping Pollux, at least, safe, just because he gave a report they didn't want to hear??
You are Dionysus, and you are having a Very Bad Day
#percy jackson spoilers#pjo spoilers#the battle of the labyrinth#percy jackon and the olympians#percy jackson#ive been rotating the cabin 12 twins in my head for ages their experiences with their dad are so outside the norm#but i hadnt really considered the ariadne angle before

I'm curious what yalls beckory timelines are in ur head of like how their relationship would progress and stuff. I have a specific one in my head that ebbs and flows with different fics and aus and it makes me wanna know what other interps ppl have. like, what age they start to get more romantic or start dating or whatever and kiss and stuff. and also what circumstances u think thered have to be to prompt it
#i see them how book series like pjo treated their romances#like Percy and annabeth had chemistry at age 12 and it increased for years but they didnt kiss and start dating until they were like 16#thats how i see them although its more like 15#in my head gregory and tony need time for things to settle and work through their friendship first#in 1 scenario where its just 'theyre away from eachother after ggy for like a year and reunite#and have to work through stuff and trauma and their lives change and grow with eachother as they get older in the meantime'#but in other scenarios i see them getting together earlier under different circumstances#pandas.txt#thoughts#beckory

i'm not sure i really like how the trio seems to know most things right off the bat. like the change made sense with Medusa and Echidna, but for the Lotus Casino? i didn't even know that Odysseus ended up on an island where the Lotuses caused the people who ate them to lose sense of purpose, and I've been reading these books for years. i think the whole scene would've been more scary if they'd allowed them to gradually realise it.
#I like that Percy is the one to realise it#because you see him realising stuff like this in the books but it's all internal#percy jackson#percy jackon and the olympians#pjo tv show#pjo tv spoilers#isoceratops#still I wish they'd just let them be 12 year olds more yk?#like if I walked into the casino at my current age#I would happily spend the rest of time there#let's let them be slow on the uptake!!

Hey hi hello this is me drawing comparisons between Sofia the First and Percy Jackson because I need to let it out.
Listen. Sofia reminds me of Percy so much. She's a kid who's had to take on too much responsibility at a young age to save the world, fighting villains and whatnot. I feel sorry for them both. Sofia especially, since she doesn't even realise how fucked up it is that she has to do all this! She definitely had more choice in the matter than Percy, but still!
They both have magical abilities. Sofia's is mostly thanks to her amulet, Percy's is due to his parentage. They both can talk to animals, though Percy's ability is limited to horses (adding to that, they both have flying horses), horse-like animals such as zebras, and fish. Percy's abilities are mostly water-related (can control water, can breathe underwater, etc.) while Sofia has a wider range of them. She does have one water-related ability where she can turn into a mermaid, but I can't think of more similarities in their powers.
They both have amazing mothers (Sally Jackson I love you). Both of them grew up mostly without their biological fathers, both fathers also coincidentally being linked to the sea. Both fathers were said to have been lost at sea as well, also in Percy's case this was not true.
Okay, now let's come to their stories. Percy Jackson is part of the Great Prophecy, one that came before his birth. On the other hand, Sofia's fate is also in a way predetermined. Roland mentions that he thinks the amulet chose her. Her whole journey throughout the first three seasons, Elena was testing her to see if she would be the right person to save her, amd when she decided she was ready, she sent her a sort of vision. Sofia also has her own story in the Secret Library that she has to finish.
At the end of their respective series, both have to battle a serious threat in order to save the world. Both times, the threat is a great evil that is possessing a previously-established villain that also happened to betray the protagonist (Luke betrayed Percy at the end of The Lightning Thief; Prisma betrayed Sofia in The Mystic Isles). Sofia has to battle Vor (who's taken over Prisma's form); Percy has to battle Kronos (who's taken over Luke's form). At the very end, both Luke and Prisma, now themselves again, are remorseful for what they did.
Of course, one thing I'll add though is that both Luke and Kronos were far better villains. Yeah that's it. Anyways...yeah. That's the post. I have yet to think about the other characters in both series' and how they compare (apart from their parents which I have already mentioned), that may be in another post if I do find anything significant.
Of course, these are two different pieces of media with two different themes and tones, with protagonists who have very different personalities, but I like finding similarities in things I like.
#apologies for any spelling or grammar mistakes i just had to get this out into the world#also not tagging anyone cuz idk anyone who's into both fandoms#the parallels between Percy and Sofia have been festering in my brain for a while#especially the aspect of their respective ages compared to their burdens#decided to finally make the post because season 2 of pjo got announced#stoked about that#sofia the first#sofia the fandom#percy jackson#pjo#percy jackson and the olympians#pjo spoilers#the talking box#ABOUT THEIR AGES THO: PERCY IS 12 IN BOOK ONE AND 15/16 IN BOOK FIVE#OLDER THAN SOFIA#long post

i can’t explain to you how insane it is that they had the lightning thief as a required reading in sixth grade, which is how i found percy jackson, and now the series is coming out when i’m the same age as luke
#percy jackson#shout out to everyone who read percy jackson for the first time at 11 or 12 and is now 19 or 20 how are we doing#i’m losing my mind about it#because yeah if i was a demigod and the only time i got attention from my parent was when i was doing their bidding i’d be pissed too#luke’s reasoning makes perfect sense and i genuinely believe he could have gotten somewhere with getting the gods to pay more attention to#their kids had he not been manipulated by kronos because percy essentially succeeded in what luke set out to do#it’s also kinda scary seeing kids who are the same age i was when i read the books on screen along with kids who are my age now#pjo tv show#pjo

Someone pointed out how Solangelo isn't actually all that great, and I realized I totally forgot canonly Nico is like 12/13?!
I always forget that because for me Nico should be 15/16. It FITS better then him being some little kid because Nico is then a candidate for the prophecy. If it's that big an age gap, then why have him around? No seriously.
Thalia is older then Percy, but chooses the Hunters so she is not part of the prophecy. So everyone looks to Percy. But if Nico was a few months younger then Percy, he's also a contender and we have more drama/suspense of the whole thing. We have Hades locking Percy up being more impactful. Nico is a contender for the prophecy, he is a threat.
Yet with the age gap... it's less that. Like I know, I know. Percy accepted it, he promised, blah-blah-blah.
But man, would it have been damn cool for Nico to be like three months younger then Percy.
#percy jackson#pjo#percy jackson and the olympians#reading to many anti solangelo posts now#slowly changing my opinion#cause I forgot about that#yes yes#i am all about ship what you want#and i've written some iffy ships#but I am big on aging characters up for the aus#and all#12/13-15 is not a ship I can support

things that all-girl lord of the flies inspired fiction like yellowjackets and beauty queens fail to achieve is the fact that in the original the boys who started all the chaos were in choir. I truly believe that all that happened simply because they were stuck there with theater kids
#besides the fact that both yellowjackets and beauty queens both age the girls up to 16-17 like no!! let the 12 year olds murder each other#I think they would#I think the hyperactive imagination of a 12 year old girl raised on hunger games and percy jackson and hermione granger WOULD kill someone#like. the slenderman fan girls that attacked their friend?? (friend i think idk it's been a while)#this is a joke BUT the core argument here is that lord of the flies remakes are missing one main ingredient and that is the imagined enemy#they try to add some other conflict to their cast with the Simon/Jesus figure like no he's just weird and was randomly chosen in what they#thought was a game to be the villain#it's like going hey kids I know I'm your camp counselor and I changed literally nothing about my appearance for this but OH NO WHAT'S THIS#I'M POSSESSED BY KRONOS OH NOOO YOU HAVE TO FIGHT ME AHHH#and they attack you with their makeshift weapons and DO NOT STOP WHEN YOU TELL THEM TOO#so yes thanks for reading the essay I never wrote about how a 2012 'im not like other girls' lotf would absolutely end in death

book percy was always this character who i thought was the coolest & who i experienced comphet for (& i still do.) tv percy, on the other hand, is this rightfully fed up kid who i adopted & is now my son.
#maybe it’s bc the first time i read tlt i was about percy’s age & reading it in an extra help class i had to take bc of my disabilities#& percy was the very first character i ever saw who was/is nd#so the ability that i had to relate to him in that way made me categorize him as a ‘cool’ guy#but i was 12 then & percy was my age#but now i’m almost 19#& i just see tv percy as this little boy who is rightfully over all of the bullshit the gods have put him through / continue to#if i were a 12 year old in percy’s shoes (someone who just watched his mom die for him & then had his world flipped upside down even more)#i would also be pissed at the gods for putting me through the awfulness that they are#& bc of that i just want to protect him from all of the stupid things he has to face#so i see him more like my child#anyways#i love both versions of percy & i find it interesting how when i learned about him changed my perspective on him as a character m#(ignore the m that was a typo)#not kpop#seaweed brain 🔱💙#pjo : the books#pjo : the series

Sometimes I forget that I’m younger than 90% of my coworkers by 1 or 2 decades and my experiences aren’t universal cause my coworkers were talking about reading Percy Jackson to their students and I was like “Oh my god I love Percy Jackson!!!! I can’t wait for the new Disney series!” and they looked at me like 🤨 and I was like 🫥
Cause sorry, I forgot you were talking from the “I’m a 4th grade teacher reading a book with my class” perspective while I was answering from the “I am a person who read Percy Jackson as a child and have grown up loving the series and characters as they grew with me” perspective and we did not line up in enthusiasm from those perspectives
#I read Percy Jackson before I was in fourth grade but my fourth grade class read it as a class as well#in terms of life experience I’m pretty much a child to my coworkers#there’s literally one other coworker who is young and doesn’t have kids#I’ve literally aged with Percy since I read the first book when I was a little younger than 12 and the later series#with him as a teen and young adult have come out when I was a teen and young adult#like we grew up together let me be excited to hear our students may have that joy#also let me be excited we’re finally getting a (so far) good adaptation of a beloved childhood book#cause last childhood book I saw Disney adapt was fucking Artemis fowl and that has deeply wounded me
