Know Your Place

While Fugaku was far less intense than some of the older generation clan heads, be it Uchiha or from other clans, he still had to uphold some practices, especially since all eyes were always on the Uchihas.

His beloved wife was loathe to put her precious children through that ritual, begging him to use his position as clan head to vote his children out of it. However, Fugaku was nothing if not dutiful. He would not show any bias towards his family. Ancient Konoha customs were especially sacred to the Uchiha and Senju, since they were the founder's blood.

After many fights and arguments, Mikoto had unhappily relented, seeing that she couldn't change her husband's mind. His heart ached for his wife as he could imagine where she was coming from. So, to spare her somewhat, he suggested she should go visit her friend the fated day and to even have a sleepover if possible.

While she had still not been happy about his decision and what would befall their children, she had thanked him for the suggestion, ever courteous, and went to sleep with her back turned towards him.

The fateful day finally came. Mikoto, despite being upset with her husband, had taken his suggestion and planned a date with Kushina to spend the whole day together and end it in a sleepover. She had already told Sasuke to come straight to Naruto's home with him after their training ended. If there was one silver lining in the situation, she figured it was that her baby would be spared the fates of his elder siblings.

Their daughter had come of age around a week ago. Fugaku knew what had to be done. And it had to be done today, with his wife safely out of the picture so as not to have to witness what needed to happen.

Sometime before noon, Fugaku came into the living room and called for both his eldest children in a booming voice. Itachi came first, coming in from where he'd been in the back garden, looking mildly curious. Fugaku gestured for him to wait, to which he obliged, knowing he'd find out whatever his father wanted once his sister came down.

His second born, and only daughter, tiptoed down the stairs, poking her head around the door to gauge the situation. She flinched upon seeing his intense expression and straightened up, quickly slinking into the room and sitting opposite him, beside Itachi.

"You're both old enough now," he got straight to business. "Itachi, you're my heir. You need to stake your claim. As for you," he fixed his daughter with a cold gaze. "You must ensure and strengthen his position. Your place is beside him."

She bit the inside of her cheek, looking towards Itachi for clarity, but he was staring in confusion at their father.

"I don't understand father," she said, trying to lower the intensity radiating off of both the men. "It's understood I'll make sure his position is strong... Why are you saying it like this?"

Fugaku breathed out through his nose, praying for patience to get through this. He kept his demeanor and tone harsh, knowing that was the most efficient way to get through this.

He barked at her to undress, that she was to do as she was told. That was her position. He ignored the angry, hurt tears welling in her eyes and kept his gaze focused on his son, whose fists were balled tightly on his lap.

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see his daughter looking to Itachi for help, but eventually realizing her older brother wouldn't take her side here. If the situation weren't so dire, he would have smiled in pride at his son's sense of loyalty. Fugaku knew how much Itachi adored his younger siblings, but to see that he would do whatever it takes for his clan and village made him proud.

His daughter slowly undressed, fighting back tears and looking forlorn. When she was completely bare, she folded her arms over her chest, trying futilely for some semblance of modesty. He could see the slight tremours in Itachi's arms as he fought for restraint.

Fugaku took a quick inspection of her folds, having her hold her cunt open, feet spread far apart. He nodded with satisfaction upon finding her virginity in tact. Now to move on to the next part.

Next, he had her lay on the low table in front of Itachi, barking at her to spread her legs and keep them open when she would start to close them, shaking from the absurdity of the situation.

Itachi hadn't moved an inch from his spot, still kneeling at his seat. He didn't meet Fugaku's eyes when the clan head turned towards him.

"Itachi," he called out sternly, although his voice was considerably free of the harshness he had used on his daughter. "You are to be the future leader of this clan. You must take her, and make sure to spill inside. She'll bear many children for you."

For a long moment, Fugaku feared his eldest won't obey. That this was where he'd draw the line and Fugaku would have to use stricter means. He fixed his son with a cold look, barely paying attention to his vulnerable daughter, who had hidden her face behind her hands. He let her hide for now.

Then, slowly, Itachi shifted, reaching out to grab the only item Fugaku had prepared for this occasion. He took the jar and opened it, dipping his fingers into the thick lubricant. Wordlessly, he brought the fingers to his sister's pink folds that were splayed uncomfortably in front of him. He didn't waste time in teasing or arousing pleasure, and simply got to work using his slick fingers to lubricate and open her up with quick motions as if sensing Fugaku's rising impatience.

The man pulled his daughter's trembling hands away from her face, revealing her teary eyes and conflicted expression. He wanted to give her a kind smile and comfort her, but he remembered his duty as a father and clan head were most important right now.

"Look at him," he said instead, words as stern as his eyes. "Don't bring your hands up again!"

Pleased with his work when her hands dropped to her sides on the tabletop, clenched into tight fists, Fugaku went behind Itachi who was lining up his manhood to his sister's prepared cunt. With a hand on his son's shoulder, Fugaku watched as his thick, engorged head breached his daughter's virgin entrance, telling him to keep pushing as she began to squirm.

As he leaned back in his chair and lit a cigar, he wished Mikoto would return home tonight instead of sleeping over at her friend's house after all. He was only human, and the past couple hours had aroused his need for his wife.

He blew out a ring of smoke, letting his eyes fall shut as the muffled sounds of his son breeding his daughter filtered through the thin walls to his office.

There were many moments in Gaara's life when he felt dislike toward his siblings. Most of them took place in their younger years, during which he was isolated by his father and grew to see them as nothing more than strangers, who just so happened to be related to him by blood.

The turning point in their relationship was his encounter with Naruto. Building bonds at such a late stage was not an easy task - especially since he could tell both Temari and Kankuro were still somewhat scared of him - but he was just as motivated to do it, as he was to prove himself to everyone in Suna. So while it did take some time, he started to get to know his siblings more and get closer to them.

He loved his sister, he truly did. She was smart, strong, and independent and the young Kazekage couldn't be prouder of her. She was the wisest of the three, always there to listen and provide her opinion when he needed it the most. He could trust her with anything that was laying heavy on his heart or mind, and she never judged or criticized him.

The bond he shared with Kankuro, however, was completely different. Gaara considered him as his best friend and right hand, and while he did not admit it out loud, he was closer to him rather than Temari. In his head, he justified it based on the fact that they were both male and that he didn't really have that much time to build a close relationship with Temari, as soon after the war she moved to live in Konoha and live with the Nara.

Since Kankuro was the only one left in Suna, it was only natural for them to grow even closer. Despite their differing views on many topics, sometimes including what is best for the village, the red-haired shinobi trusted him with his life. This was the reason why he was always assigned as your partner when you had to do missions outside Suna - he knew that no matter what, his brother would do anything to protect you.

Or at least he thought he knew.

As he observed your bruised from in front of him, his eyes narrowed once they landed on your arm sling. Your mouth kept moving, but your explanation fell deaf on his ears - all he cared about was the fact you stood before him with a broken arm and numerous cuts and bruises.

"-so we were greatly outnumbered! So my arm was broken in two places, but luckily the nurse said it will be only 12 weeks till-"

"Where is Kankuro right now?", this was the first time he spoke since you started giving him detailed account of what went wrong on the mission and the roughness in his voice did take you by surprise.

Furrowing your brows, you tilted your head to the side, a flicker of annoyance flashing in your eyes. You specifically told your fiancé that his brother was dealing with all the paperwork downstairs, which is why you have decided to come here and attend the debriefing meeting by yourself.

"He is in the office downstairs, doing the-"

Interrupting you once again, Gaara knocked loudly on his desk, his subtle signal that he needs the attention of the guards outside. The door opened and one of them peeked his head inside, bowing slightly as a sign of respect to the village leader.

"Bring Kankuro up here", the Kazekage said, while placing his elbows on the flat surface in front of him, "Now."

The masked guard nodded his head and closed the door without another word. You stood frozen in your place, silently watching him and trying to understand what was up with him. His expression remained stoic, while his shoulders were slightly up, a sign of how tense he was. He couldn't even bring himself to look at you, as his pale eyes remained fixed on the wall behind you.

"What is this about?", your voice was laced with irritation as you rested your free hand on your waist. He briefly glanced at you, before letting out a heavy sigh and closing his eyelids.

"I don't know what you are talking about."

Faking ignorance was definitely not his strong suit and your gritted your teeth in annoyance at his behaviour. Gaara was a fairly mature man - sure, he did had his childish moments sometimes, but given that he did not had a normal childhood, you excused his odd behaviour in the rare moments it occurred. In fact, most of the time it was easy for you to understand what was wrong without him even telling you, as he has never been that good at hiding his emotions.

As you studied him now, however, you were completely lost. The mission was success and while you and Kankuro did get ambushed by eight ninjas at once, you managed to get away relatively uninjured.

Well, if you excluded your broken arm.

"Is that because of my injury?", you felt suddenly enlightened at what the problem may be and given the way his jaw clenched, you knew you hit the jackpot. Gaara has always been fiercely overprotective of you, not only because you were his fiancée, thus making you the target of many rogue ninjas, but also because you were the one person he could not afford to lose.

Before he can reply, there was a faint knock on the door, followed by your partner's low "Enter". The door opened and Kankuro stepped into the room, his lips curving into a small smile once his eyes landed on you. The moment he turned his head to his brother, his whole face fell and he cleared his throat, before bowing his head.

"Kazekage-sama", he greeted in a small voice, almost ashamed. Gaara did not return the greeting, instead moved one of his arms to motion to one of the chairs on the other side of the desk. Understanding his silent request, Kankuro slowly dragged his feet to it, buying himself time to come up with good explanation of what went wrong.

The puppet master may be a lot of things, but stupid was not one of them. The boiling rage behind his brother's eyes was easily recognisable for him, even if his younger sibling was trying to mask it behind a cold and stiff expression.

"What did I tell you before you left?", the Kazekage asked, while leaning forward. Kankuro gulped at the question, focusing his attention to his fidgeting fingers in his lap, while you moved closer to the two males, eager to finally get some clarity.

Did they make some kind of secret deal without you knowing?

"Answer!", Gaara barked, his patience running thin and both you and Kankuro jumped at the unusual loudness of his voice. The Kazekage, who was always so calm and collected, never raised his tone like this.

The painted man cleared his throat, before lifting his gaze and trying to offer a diplomatic response:

"Well, technically you said a lot of stuff..."

The red-headed shinobi scrunched his nose and his lips twisted into a scowl, obviously unhappy with the answer he was given. Sensing there is a storm brewing, you sat on the other available chair next to the puppet master, while your attention kept jumping between the two men. At this point you felt like a third wheel to their discussion, even though it was obvious that you were somehow connected to the topic.

"Is anyone going to tell me what is going on?"

They both ignored you, instead continuing to stare at each other, one with clear distaste, the other one - with shame. One long minute passed, during which you felt all three of you will suffocate because of the rising tension.

"Your future brother-in-law is incompetent and useless fool", Gaara finally broke the silence, moving his focus toward you, "is what is going on."

Without the chance to even assimilate what he just told you, your head whipped to the side once Kankuro slammed his hands on the desk, his face twisted in a mix of frustration and guilt. He glared draggers at his brother, yet the slight tremble of his bottom lip hinted that he was more afraid rather than angry.

“It’s not my fault! I have only one head, you know?! I can’t have my attention and sight at everything! She jumped behind my back and I didn’t even notice her before it was too late!”

Your lover shook his head, a disgusted scoff leaving his lips.

“Thank Kami you don’t have more than one head! You don’t even use this one, I can’t imagine what it would be if you had more”, the mockery in his tone soon left and was replaced by annoyance, “I told you to keep your eye on my fiancée and keep her safe! At. Any. Cost! And here she is, covered in bruises and injuries, with a broken arm!”

Hearing his words, your jaw fell. Now it was your turn to look at him with disgust. Did he think you were that weak and unskilled, he had to ask his brother to supervise you?

“Wait”, you closed your eyes , trying to gather all your thoughts together, “You ask him to keep his eye on me?”

The note of disbelief in your voice finally caught the attention of both males and they exchanged a look, before turning toward you. Gaara's face softened and he cleared his throat, but the moment he opened his mouth to answer, Kankuro beat him to it.

"You bet he was - "Don't let her out of your sight!"; "Don't let her fight unless absolutely necessary!"; "Make sure to escort her everywhere she goes", the puppet master recited the list of orders given to him by his brother. With each sentence, your breathing became more and more rigid, while your lover burned holes at the other man's head.

Did he take you for some kind of helpless damsel in distress that needs constant protection? Of course, as the partner of the Kazekage you knew it would be hard to separate your personal life from your work, but you always tried your best to keep things between you professional on the workplace. Learning he has been giving directions to Kankuro behind your back, when he specifically promised you that he would treat you as any other sand shinobi, did feel like a low blow.

"I can't believe you!", you scoffed, turning your attention back to Gaara, "You promised me you won't interfere in my missions!"

"It's not like that", your lover sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. He was worried about you, was that a crime? The world out there was dangerous, especially since he had enemies everywhere and the fact you did not seem to appreciate this frustrated him to no end. Why can't you just understand?

"Should I leave?", Kankuro looked between you awkwardly, his hands already gripping the edge of the stool so he can lift himself. Deep down he knew that maybe he did say more than he was supposed to. So far he always kept the arrangements he had with his brother private, but as he felt almost cornered by you and him, it wall just... slipped out.

The Kazekage nodded his head, but not before mouthing "I am not done with you" to his sibling. Once the door closed and you were left alone in the room, his focus landed back on your fuming form.

"My love-"

"You promised!", you interrupted before he can butter you up and make you question the reasonableness of your anger, "Do you doubt my skills as a shinobi? Do you not trust I can handle myself?"

He winced at the tone of your voice and he briefly glanced at your arm sling, before looking back into your eyes. Taking a deep breath, he stood from his chair and walked around his desk, so he can sit at the place previously occupied by Kankuro next to you. While his hands itched to reach out to you and just take you in a hug, he held himself back, choosing to rest his palms on his knees instead.

"Love, you are one of the most skilled and powerful sand shinobi", he started, carefully choosing each word, "I know you can handle both yourself and your team! But I am worried about you - you are the fiancée of the Kazekage, the dangers are-"

You shook your head interrupting him once again mid-sentence. Pressing your tongue against your cheek, you tried to control the urge to just stand up and leave. He had shared his worries with you before and while you understood his point of view, you felt like he didn't even try to get yours.

"Do you know how embarrassing this is? No wonder everyone in the team treats me strangely", you huffed, "I am your fiancée, but I also your subordinate and you are my leader and employer. You can't just... interfere with my work like this!"

Leaning back against the chair, you buried your head in your hand and waited for the long excuse which you knew was coming. It was not the first time you have discussed this and you also suspected it won't be the last.

"You are right. I shouldn't have done that", he said after a minute of silence, "I am sorry."

Here it goes-wait! ... Did he really said he was sorry?

Lifting your head almost cautiously you eyed him with a mix of suspicion and surprise, not expecting for him to apologize. While he was often good at self-reflection, it was no secret that apologizing was not really Gaara's thing- in the rare occasions when he was wrong, he always found a way to justify his decisions and actions, because the truth is, he did always have good intentions.

"Are you really?", the question came out sharper than you intended and once you saw him flinch back, you reached for his hand, your anger disappearing almost immediately. You rubbed small circles on his skin with your thumb, while you decided to be honest with how you felt.

"Look, I am just... Other ninjas are already thinking that I do get special treatment because we are together. And when you specifically ask them to act as my protectors, even if it is just your brother, it doesn't really help my case. I can take care of myself."

Gaara's pale eyes fell down to your broken arm before lifting to your face again, one invisible brow raising. You clicked your tongue while rolling your eyes at him.

"Hey, don't give me that look! I saved my teammate as any shinobi would do!"

He looked at you for a few seconds, before finally letting out a sigh and he brought your hand to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on top. His lips lingered there for a few seconds, before he pulled away, resting his chin on your intertwined fingers.

"I hate seeing you hurt", he finally admitted, "But you are right, I just... I can't help but think the worst every time you go away. I can't lose you! I really can't!"

"And you won't!", you squeezed his hand lovingly, your voice falling down to a whisper, "But I need you to trust me. Okay?"

The corners of his mouth twitched into a small smile and he leaned forward, placing his forehead to yours. If there was one thing you both hated doing, it was fighting. You felt his arms sneaking around your shoulders, carefully pulling you closer to him so he avoids hurting you. Before you can fully relax in his embrace, however, you lifted your head, searching his eyes:

"And no more scolding for Kankuro."

His body tensed and his expression twisted in disatisdaction.

"But-"

"No", you gave him one of 'your looks' and he watched you with a blank expression for a while, before he let out a huff and slowly nodded his head.

"Fine."

Little did you know, that while there was no scolding, their "talk" did take a long, long time afterwards... and maybe Kankuro was forced to give a few secret additional promises.

Hi! I've just gotten into naruto and I was wondering if you have an fic recommendations based in other villages?

OKAY hi yes. meant to answer this yesterday, oops. Welcome! while currently I am writing and reading in a more DC-focused direction, I definitely still have a lot of Naruto fic recs. because i'm not sure exactly what you're looking for in terms of genre or content, some of these vary widely and might not be what you're after. so! here's some stuff from my AO3 bookmarks. (you do have to be a registered user to read some of these.)

The One Where An OC Moves In With Kakuzu by Tozette is about 10k words and takes place in Ame. it's pretty straightforward, a little cracky, and very enjoyable. this author has a very good grip on Kakuzu's characterization, i highly recommend everything else they've written as well.

a study in demons by saintbedo is 2k words and technically takes place in Kiri. it's a short and bittersweet character study of zabuza.

he wants to be tender and merciful by nithenoel is 40k. it's a time travel fic with Gaara. it's been a long time since I read this one, but i'm certain that at least the majority of it takes place in Suna, if not all of it. i'm a sucker for Gaara-centric stuff, and this fic is all about him trying to repair his relationship with his siblings.

look twice by tciddaemina is about 9k, a soulmate fic with itachi/kisame pre-canon. it's from kisame's perspective, so at least the first part is in Kiri.

denizens of the sands of time by CherShare is 42k, another time travel fic with Gaara but to the Warring States period or directly after the formation of Konoha, i forget. iirc Gaara sort of starts building his own village and adjudicates for the wandering desert clans and stuff, so... technically takes place in early early early Suna? it's tagged Tobirama/Gaara.

To Stay the Tides by TheDroidsYoureLookingFor is 126k and the majority takes place in the Land of Waves. SI-OC and soulmate AU, i think the main pairing is the OC and Kisame. I don't remember how many canon characters come into play here, i think there's a lot of OCs and worldbuilding with Wave and Uzushio and stuff.

I Never Sharpened My Teeth by DrDiabolical is 25k and probably darker than most of the other stuff on this list. it's young Kakashi-centric, in a world where he gets kidnapped to Kiri and experimented on. mind the tags and rating; it's explicit and a lot of stuff happens. But as far as i remember the author tags accurately and clearly.

Steam by Ornery Otter is 62k and it's only on this list because of how much i enjoy it. it's an SI-OC from Yugakure, but only the first few chapters take place in Yu. so this one is maybe disqualified. but i like it a lot so :p

Plasticity by Mixelation is 177k and again, maybe doesn't count? but it's another fic near and dear to my heart. SI-OC gets kidnapped by the Akatsuki, so some of the fic takes place in Ame. this is another author that just writes bangers, and has a killer (ha) grasp on Akatsuki characterizations. i'd recommend pretty much everything they've written too. (there are also nearly endless AUs and spinoffs of this AU that you can find on Mixelation's tumblr, increasing in whackiness and fun as they go).

a dog and a shark walk into a bar by cloudycats is 42k and once more, maybe doesn't count since it doesn't really take place in a village. this is an AU where canon Kakashi wakes up in a noncanon world where he committed the Uchiha Massacre and is partnered to Kisame in the Akatsuki. i really enjoy this one.

Deadbeat. by Tozette is 33k and i just read it today actually. it's an SI-OC who is Kakuzu's daughter. i cannot describe how much i fucking love this fic. whatever youre thinking, its almost certainly better. its on here because it doesn't happen in any big village.

man, i sort of lost the thread with these last 4 recs, they're more like 'doesnt happen in konoha' than 'happens in another village'. anyway! thanks for the ask and I hope these help. feel free to ask for more recs anytime. welcome to the fandom!

I have a new sasusaku au idea.

So say after the third shinobi war, Leaf and Sand made a peace agreement via arranged marriage. The sand would provide a relative of the Kazakage's family to be a bride for one of the head families of Konoha's clans.

The Uchiha clan was chosen to receive the bride. It wasn't decided yet if she would wed Itachi or Sasuke but she would be for one of them.

As for the bride herself, there was a debate to send the Kazakage's daughter Temari, but then Suna's council remembered that Karura had a sister who had a daughter.

Sakura knew her whole life that she would eventually be sent to Konoha as a peace bride. Her childhood was kinda lonely because of it. Suna's council started her ninja training young because they knew the Uchiah's were a ninja clan by trade and that they value strength. They gave her to Lady Chiyo to train. Sakura never really took to puppetry, not like Kankuro, but she did excell under Lady Chiyo's posion teachings and beginner medical training.

When Sakura wasn't with Lady Chiyo, she was with her cousins. She was closest to Gaara since both of them were being raised to be used in service to the village (Gaara as a weapon and Sakura as a peace offering) which left them both pretty isolated as children. This isolation also left Sakura a little oblivious to the village's fear of her favorite cousin. All she knew was that Gaara was a sweet boy who just needed some extra training to control his powers. Yes, she did know that Gaara had Shukaku in him and sometimes he lost control of his powers, but like most kids, she doesn't fully understand what that means.

Sakura and Gaara's relationship took a hit when their uncle, Yashamaru, tried to kill Gaara and then proceeded to blow himself up. Gone was the sweet boy who wanted to love and be loved. Gaara was now colder, and while Sakura still cared greatly for her cousin, it felt like he only tolerated her now. She was still one of his closest relationships, along with his siblings.

When Sakura was twelve, she was given two items. The first was a chain with a ring on it. The ring was silver with a red jewel. Purple chakra swirled in the jewel. The second item was a headband with Konoha's symbol on it.

It was time for her to go to the Leaf Village.

On Konoha's side after the Uchiha massacre the council looked for ways to keep Sasuke in line. They remembered the deal with Suna and made the arrangements to officially betrothed Sasuke and Sakura. Not that they told him.

The deal was that once Sasuke graduated from the Academy, they would bring Sakura to the village and assign her to his genin team. Kakashi about damn near had heart failure when his third student was escorted in with two Sand anbu behind her. Gai had to console him later.

Sakura looked around curiously at everything as she followed Kakashi to meet her other teammates. There was a lot more color in Konoha than Suna, especially the color green. Her teacher was curious, too. He introduced himself as Kakashi Hatake. Hmm, the only Hatake Sakura knew about was the White Fang Sakumo, and Lady Chiyo wanted him dead. She wonders if Kakashi is related.

Sakura is behind Kakashi when he opens the door to a classroom and an erasure falls on his head. A loud laugh was heard from the inside. Was that her betrothed or her other teammate?

"That's what you get for being late!" The voice shouted.

We're they late? Sakura winced. That was probably her fault. Kakashi did have to get her from the Hokage's tower.

Kakashi only humed as he stepped into the room, Sakura following behind. Two boys turned their stares from their sensei to her. She scanned them, one was a blonde with whisker like marks on his face, the other had black hair and eyes. While she couldn't verify via the Uchiah symbol, Sakura had to guess the dark eyed boy was her betrothed Sasuke. She was told the Uchiah's typically had darker features.

Kakashi humed again. "My first impress of you three, I hate all of you."

Well damn, that's not good. Sakura needs allies if she's gonna survive here and make sure to maintain the peace agreement. Having her sensei hate her right off the bat doesn't bode well for her.

They're led up to the roof where Kakashi has them introduce themselves, not that he offered up much info.

The blonde boy started. "My name is Naruto Uzumaki! I like ramen, especially the ramen at Ichiraku! But I hate having to wait the three minutes for it to cook. And my dream is to be the greatest Hokage!"

Well, he was energetic. But this did confirm Sakura's suspicions.

Sasuke spoke next. "My name is Sasuke Uchiah. I dislike a lot of things, and I don't particularly like anyone. I don't have a dream because I will make it a reality. I will restore my clan and kill a certain someone."

Oh, well, there's some familiarity of home with her betrothed. At least she'll have some knowledge on how to approach her betrothed thanks to Gaara.

The boys turned towards her and Kakashi tilted his head. We'll go on.

Sakura blushed. Oh, right. "I'm Sakura Haruno. What I like, I mean, um-" Damn her accent slipped, and after her tutors worked so hard to make sure it was perfect. "I like studying. . ." Can't say posions, won't look good since she's suppsed to be a peace offering. ". . .medical plants and the effect they have on the body. My dislikes are um. . ." What was safe to say? She didn't get a chance to study her teammates before, and there wasn't much info her anbu escorts gave her either.

Kakashi seemed to take pity on her. "And your dream for the future?"

That was easy. "To maintain the peace and alliance between Konoha and Suna."

"How come we've never seen you before?" Naruto asked her.

The boys looked at her confused. Sakura looked at Sasuke confused. Why was he confused? He's the other half to making this peace agreement work.

Kakashi cleared his throat. "Sakura is from another village, but she has been put on this team as part of an alliance agreement. Now for tomorrow we'll have our first mission."

Sakura tensed as Kakashi explained that of the graduates only nine ever make it to genin and the rest are sent back to the academy. What does that mean for her? Would she be sent back to Suna? That can't happen, not if they want to peace agreement to work out, she can't fail this!

Sakura went to speak with Sasuke after they were dismissed. She knows they officially just met but they did need to talk about their engagement. Kakashi pulled them both back.

Kakashi pulled a silver ring on a chain out of his pocket. Sakura knew that ring. It was the matching ring to the one she wore around her neck, except it had her chakra in it instead of Sasuke's. Why would Kakashi have it?

Kakashi handed the chain to Sasuke. "Did your parents ever tell you about your engagement?"

Sasuke's face fell into a scowl. "What?"

Sakura began to grow mortified.

"The alliance agreement between Konoha and Suna was sealed with an arranged marriage between the Uchiha clan and a relative of Suna's leader, the Kazekage," Kakashi explained. "Sakura is the Kazakage's niece, and per the agreement, you two will be living together from this point on."

Sasuke turned his glare on to Sakura. Sakura was thankful she gotten used to Gaara's glares.

Hellboy (would a doomsday prophecy count as being a chosen one?) vibing in the corner with the winchesters, talking smack bout each other’s hunts, and definitely taking on the irresponsible uncle role a la grunkle stan (he definitely shows them all how to shoot. do firearms exist in their world? irrelevant) naruto and him bonding over being demons (again look me in the eye and tell me that kid doesn’t have issues with that after how konoha treated him i’m waiting) with big destructive capabilities but just wanting to fit in

the kamado siblings show up first after the loss of their whole family and nezuko becoming a demon and getting all the comfort they need and the realization they aren’t alone and never will be. ed absolutely teaches nezuko how to be a gremlin. the hashira never know peace again. tanjiro is torn between exasperation and pride. he definitely thrives under cloud and bilbo’s watchful eyes. izuku figures out how to mix OfA with the breathing styles.

What do you think his manga would've been about if he won?

Honestly, it would have probably been about Gaara reflecting on how Naruto had saved him, which would have been a bit of a let down.

Now I'm not saying that I would turn down the content or underappreciate it if this were the case. I mean, we're all so starved of Gaara content that anything can sometimes be better than nothing; however, I just feel that Gaara reflecting on how Naruto saved him tends to be the main focus, or at least highly referenced, in many Gaara-centered content, post-Konoha Crush Arc.

It's like the low-hanging fruit of Gaara's character development at this point. And dare I say I commend the novel Gaara Hiden for more or less allowing it to be a very distant background theme of the - what I would call - a pretty lukewarm story in terms of quality. That novel pretty much came out as "meh" for me, but I appreciated that it gave Gaara the opportunity to shine by himself without pushing the credit onto Naruto.

I'm sorry, this is already going to be a tangent but here we go:

As you can probably tell, I love Gaara quite a lot. He is by far my favourite character not just in Naruto, but across all the series I have had the pleasure of being a fan of. Gaara is literally #1 in my books across the board, and so I say this with love in my heart when I say that Gaara constantly crediting Naruto for his change irritates the crap out of me.

Why?

Because we were never actually shown much of the grind behind Gaara's character development, we just got the outcome of that change. On the surface, this isn't bad because Gaara is a supporting character in the series about Sasuke Naruto, and he's done a lot of really amazing things that make his character mature like a fine wine, but there's a lot of unmined potential in him that goes completely untouched because "Naruto saved him."

Naruto saving Gaara was the catalyst to it all. What I wanted to see was the grind, the awkwardness. Give me moments where Gaara has to fight through his shyness, let me see how hard it is for him to reconnect with his siblings and his villages. Tell me how hard it was for him to get the Elders of the village to trust him then give me Gaara breaking their spines because they're trash Hell, please even just give me more evil Gaara content!

Give me a throw back to Karura being pregnant and being so excited about her new baby. Give me the sand siblings as children thinking about each other but being unsure how to act like family.

Tell me who Gaara is when he's not a ninja and he's not Kazekage. I want to see him farm his cacti, cooking dinner and living his life the way someone who's so used to isolation goes about living their life.

So. Many. Possibilities.

Have him go out for beers with Kankuro and Kankuro's friends to "get drunk" where Gaara pretends to be "really feeling it" when he actually doesn't because he's been nursing 1 (one) beer the whole night as he tries to fit in to social situations but can't because he doesn't know of to react.

Have Gaara wondering what it's like to have romantic feelings towards someone, and have him think about it without ultimately coming to the conclusion about if he wants that or not because he isn't even sure what it means.

Give me the reaction manga to him reading Icha Icha. I swear, I would pay good money for it, or even my lif-

There are fic that I am maybe more emotional about, but it's one where I've never been like "okay this isn't optimal, but I'm gonna go with that" while writing. I'm really happy with how I could explore intergenerational relationships in Konoha, both on an interpersonal level, and on a political level with how quick the world has changed and how each generation has lived through extremely different times.

I'm really loving writing the Sand Siblings dynamic in this series too, I think they have a great balance between struggling to make it work between them because they are very different and it's hard, but also genuinely wanting to put in the effort because they care deeply. Love them.

There are some fanon depictions of her that I like and I'm not ashamed to say that, if she's written well in fanfics I'm completely fine and happy about it. However. In my time reading and writing fanfics, I have seen So. Many. Sakura Ships. And I can't take it anymore. And I'm not talking about Sakura with the Konoha 12 or the Sand Siblings or, Hell, even the teachers. That's normal stuff. I don't like it most of the time, but I can see why and how it exists

The problem with Sakura in canon is that outside of her medical knowledge she's kinda useless. "BuT sHe KiLlEd SaSoRi" I hear everyone screaming, and yeah, she did. Thanks to Chiyo who saved her ass multiple times by puppeteering her around otherwise she would have died in 0.3 seconds

She's a joke of a character who thinks to be as strong as Naruto and Sasuke but then cries and calls for Naruto the moment something happens. "BuT iT wAs PeIn WhAt Do YoU wAnT hEr To Do" Idk, fight like anyone else without acting like a useless crybaby? She's a medic, she could have gone help Tsunade with the injured or whatever instead of kneeling on the ground screaming her heart out for Naruto. She's a fucking trained shinobi, she has to be ready for emergencies

And because she's so useless, basic, bland and badly written, people have started using her as a puppet (heh) and a vessel for their Self Insert, and believe me I've seen my fair share of authors that are like "Omg I'm so Sakura that's why she's my fave" and then the story is the most ugly Y/N SI Wattpad story where Sakura gets sold and passed around like a fucking toy and everyone and their neighbor fights for her for whatever reason, there's never an explanation for this shit, it just is

And yes, I use Sakura in my AUs. And do you know why? Because that's my depiction of her, and I get to decide for her to not be a poor excuse of a shinobi who is actually smart and stands up for herself and doesn't lie to her friends and abandon them in the middle of a fucking forest (I still haven't forgotten THAT scene. When she, Lee, Sai and Kiba wanna go to Sasuke but Sakura fucking puts them to sleep with a trick and ABANDONS THEM IN THE MIDDLE OF A FUCKING FOREST WITHOUT MAKING SURE THAT THEY'LL BE FINE IF LEFT ALONE. SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE SMART. WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE DOING LEAVING THREE SLEEPING TEENAGERS AND A SLEEPING DOG IN THE FOREST WHERE ANYONE COULD FIND THEM AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE THREE FUCKING FREE KONOHA SHINOBI. I don't like Sakura in the slightest both in canon and in many fanon depictions of her, although there are some stories that make me like how she's used as a character together with everyone else. I'm happy when people give her the good characterization she deserves and I try doing that in my AUs as well. I never leave her out just because I don't like her in canon, instead I take her and try making her better than she is. But that doesn't mean that I like her or her 1938480281 ships. I'm tired of having to block every single one of her tags when I search for stories (and you wanna know why? Because some people will tag her in the ship but not as a fucking character in the story, so I find stories of her even if I exclude her general character tag and I'm tired of it. People need to learn to tag their shit correctly)

God cuz I wanted to come up with AyaTaka/AyaEne ideas on the side too, but Ayano being alive in the present day plot in canon-verse actually messes with sm of the canon

Shhhh let's just think about a Route where Ayano is alive

Cuz if Ayano is still alive, Shintaro has nothing to grieve over. Actually, Ig he still would. Cuz Haruka and Takane's deaths would still deeply affect him

But if Ayano is still alive, then the Original Trio (Ayano's foster siblings) has nothing to grieve over. Maybe things DO get tense between them (Ayano and her foster siblings) similar to Manga Route 2

Ig it could be a Route where Ayano dies and comes back with Favouring Eyes, similar to Manga Route 2, but she still gets the chance to know the rest of the Yuukei Quartet beforehand

Cuz wouldn't it be interesting if it was the opposite way around too and Shintaro and Ayano end up grieving Haruka and Takane's deaths. The sheer devastation… So ShinAya are still alive in the present day plot, but HaruTaka's deaths lead to the creation of Konoha, and Takane becoming Ene

Considering that Ene is just Takane with blue hair, I definitely feel like Ayano would recognize her lol

Kano would use his Eye Ability, Deceiving Eyes, to disguise himself as Ayano since they worked together. Ayano would skip school days to investigate the Snake of Clearing Eyes (Saeru) and Kano would take Ayano’s place so Kano (disguised as Ayano) would interact with the rest of the Yuukei Quartet (who didn’t know)

Like even Kano recognizes her (Ene) as Takane. It's not hard to put 2 and 2 together and realize that Ene is Takane lmfao

In a conversation with Takane, Ayano mentions how she feels that she isn't good enough for Shintaro.

Cuz it's so interesting to think about Ayano reacting to Ene, and Takane’s upbeat exterior as Ene being the complete opposite of what she was like 2 years ago. How Takane/Ene seemed to take her (Ayano)’s advice to heart, that Shintaro needs “a person who’s even more selfish than him, someone more energetic to pull him along…” So Ene acts cheerful and upbeat on purpose to cheer him up and string him along in the hopes that he opens up more and stops isolating himself in his loneliness

Just imagine the surprise Ayano gets at seeing Ene... “Is that you, Takane-chan...!?”

In Manga Route 2, Ayano never ends up meeting the rest of the Yuukei Quartet, so ShinAya don't know each other until they meet on the faithful day of August 15th

AyaTaka/AyaEne with Ayano's insecurity that “she is not good enough for Takane/Ene unlike Haruka,” believing that she just can't seem to match how HaruTaka bonded with each other so well, and the way Ene feels drawn to Konoha.

Ayano notices how easily flustered and embarrassed Ene gets around Konoha just like how Takane did with Haruka. Whenever she sees KonoEne together, her mind flashes back to memories of their school days together (the Yuukei Quartet), and HaruTaka, and she feels an ache in her chest. They're all things she notices right away. She wants their happy days together back…

Kuroha gets amused by Ayano’s determination and resolve to protect the Mekakushi Dan, including Ene, from him. Kuroha mocks her for her failures from 2 years ago, in failing to put a stop to him orchestrating Haruka and Takane’s deaths in the first place.

Kuroha: Despite your vow to put an end to the cycle of Tragedy... The truth is, “Favouring,” that you failed to protect anything at all.

Kuroha: You couldn't protect your friends, nor your family, nor the person you loved... (*)

Kuroha: To come back after your failure, is such a pathetic sight.

Kuroha: What do you even hope to achieve this time around? Do you really think that anything will change?

But then the visions start coming back to her and start flooding her memories and Ene blushes and looks away cuz she seriously can’t bring herself to tell her friend about the sex their intimate moments together. And Ayano just goes like (?) OvO all confused, thankfully blissfully unaware.

KuroEne and AyaEne AU: Kuroha being evil (as always)

In the context of a KuroEne and AyaEne AU, I think one of the most fucking evil things that Kuroha can do is to drop the mention of him knowing Ene better than anyone else, right to Ayano’s face

Kuroha/Saeru has a tense relationship with Ayano due to her actions setting back his plans in previous Routes (past timelines), so I wouldn’t put it past him. It seems like something he’d do.

Kuroha flaunts how he knows Ene, or really, Takane, and her desires intimately. “You could say I know her quite well… In more ways than one.”

And Ayano just gets mad at him like, “Not true…!” And Kuroha just smugly says, “Oh, but I do know.” And starts listing off his memories with Ene, and she realizes that he’s not bluffing cuz of how specific these recollections are

The idea of Kuroha/Saeru knowing her loved ones better than she does, due to the knowledge he carries, just hurts her heart

Ayano falls in love with Shintaro, her classmate who was a burnt out gifted kid who was tired of life and didn't see the point of living. Eventually, she finds out about Saeru (the Snake of Clearing Eyes) and his plan to create a new Medusa in the world, by planning to kill Haruka and Takane (her upper classmates and friends), and orchestrate their deaths, and killing all the current Eye Ability holders (which would also include killing her younger siblings)

In Ayano's Theory of Happiness, and Additional Memory, Ayano finds out about the Snake of Clearing Eyes’ plan to sacrifice her friends (ie. Haruka, Takane), and family, her foster siblings (ie. Kido, Seto, Kano).

In most Routes, Ayano plans to commit suicide on the school rooftop on August 15th and enter the Kagerou Daze and gain the Eye Ability, Favouring Eyes, in order to prevent all the Eye Ability snakes from gathering in the real world.

She recognizes the futility of her plan in trying to stop Saeru, but decides to go through with it in the hopes of protecting everyone, even if she knows that her plan will only bring her misery, and how much it pains her to deny her love for Shintaro.

Because as Ayano understood it, Kuroha/Saeru’s plan was to create a new Medusa in the world (making Mary its new master) by killing all the current Eye Ability holders, so Ayano hoped to ruin his plans by dying on August 15th, entering the Kagerou Daze, getting an Eye Ability herself, and staying in there.

But then, she discovered her actions were for naught cuz he planned to force Mary to reset the world anyways, thus allowing him to “live forever” through the time loops.

After being trapped in the Kagerou Daze, Ayano comes to terms with having failed her original mission, and vows to be a spectator in the hopes of recording the events of the tragedy with her ability of showing memories to others, in the hopes that if she ever escapes, she can help her friends break out of the time loop.

Manga Route 2

Manga Route 2 has events that transpire differently from most Routes. In Manga Route 2, Seto brings Mary to Ayano's household, Ayano never meets the rest of the Yuukei Quartet (ie. Shintaro, Haruka, Takane) and becomes estranged from her foster siblings (ie. Kido, Kano, Seto) after she gets desperate and offers up killing Mary as a solution to stop Saeru's plans.

Unlike most Routes, Ayano isn't dead in the present day plot because she doesn't go through with her plan (Events of 2 years before the present)

somebody made this fantastic fanart of the three Konoha siblings, and I am full of love for them, so my apologies but I need to rant about this funky lil family.

Their parents passed away in a car crash when Akinori was just five years old - fortunately, none of the children were in the car at the time of the accident. A distracted driver on his phone, a missed red light; this is all it took to make three orphans out of these children. Having no other living relatives to take them in, five-year-old Akinori and three-year-old Yua would most likely have been sent into the foster care system, if it hadn’t been for their twenty-year-old older brother, Kaito, dropping out of college to take them in.

By the time Akinori is in his third year of highschool, the three siblings live together in a small apartment in Tokyo, and the best way of describing their odd little family would probably be wholesome chaos. Kaito, now thirty-three, has been working himself to the bone to provide for his siblings and make sure they had a roof over their head and food on the table and could go to school. Having had to grow up way too fast and essentially become a parent for his siblings and raise two children, while beign barely out of highschool himself, he is a very mature, responsible man, but boy is he a ball of constant stress. A true mother hen to Akinori and Yua, he still tends to baby them to this day, his one and only terror being failing them in any way, shape or form (no, it doesn’t matter that they constantly tell him he’s doing a great job, let him worry goddammit). Of course, having to juggle jobs, taking care of the apartment, chores, and his siblings is a lot, and Kaito also happens to be a bit of a airhead, easily getting distracted or lost in his many responsibilities - thankfully, he can count on his siblings’ support to remind him of important appointments, take over his chores, force him to nap, and generally ensure he doesn’t run into a wall on his way out of their home. Very sweet guy, very friendly and supportive, but definitely needs a holiday and a hug. Or two. Make it all the hugs.

If you ever met Yua and Akinori without knowing she was born two years after him, you might think they’re actually twins. All the Konoha siblings look like carbon copies of each other, but the resemblance between the youngest ones is borderline uncanny. It doesn’t help that they have a very similar temperament too. Wherever they go, bickering and chaos follows - they are at their most dangerous when they team up and are fearless pranksters. As children, they developed a secret code to communicate without anyone noticing - even Kaito hasn’t cracked it. Yua is an avid gamer and computer wizard - who has been suspended from school for hacking into the library’s computer system out of sheer curiosity and sense of challenge. 

No matter how unruly Akinori and Yua may be, they always listen to their big brother, all too aware of everything he has had to sacrifice to raise them on his own. They try to find all the little ways to repay him for his selflessness, including sharing a room so that Kaito doesn’t have to sleep on the convertible couch in the living room and can actually have some privacy. Solidarity is the precept by which they live: there have been times when they didn’t have enough to eat for three, and times when money was too scarce to pay the heating bills and the rent, but they always pushed through together.

My Akatsuki AU

I love wholesome content. And even if it’s an Akatsuki AU I will make it wholesome.

So Kakashi wanted to take in and raise Naruto after the Kyuubi attack, but the third send him on a long term mission. The mission lasted for nearly 4 years. Kakashi only came back to the village maybe a week or two before Narutos 4th birthday.

Once Kakashi found Naruto, nearly being beaten up, he made a decision. Konoha didn’t deserve Naruto. Kakashi saved Naruto from his abusers and talked to the boy for a little. Naruto immediately took a liking to Kakashi. On Narutos 4th birthday the two ran from Konoha and Kakashi was declared a missing nin for stealing the Kyubi jinchuuriki.

They traveled for a few months before running into Tobi. Naruto takes a liking to him somewhat quickly.

Kakashi is suspicion of him at first but after a while actually figures out that it’s Obito. He doesn’t tell Obito that he knows but he makes sure to drop hints.

Obito originally wanted to kill Kakashi and take Naruot but somehow they managed to wiggle they way inside his heart. He can’t kill them, not now at least.

Obito comes clean to Kakashi and Kakashi is like I now. I figured as much.

They then get Konan, Nagato and Yahiko (who’s alive) to watch Naruto for a bit while Kakashi and Obito get rid of the seal on Obito and Zetsu.

They come back and change the Akatsuki to a Vigilante group.

Konan, Yahiko and Nagato are now the real leaders.

Sasori, Orochimaru, Kisame and Kakuzu are already members and they don’t like the new direction the Akatsuki is talking at first but then they meet Naruto and Naruto has them wrapped around his pinky in minutes.

Kisame and Obito then go to fix everything in Kiri. Releasing the Genjutsu on Yagura. They don’t realize Naruto snug with them. Yagura and Naruto meet. Yagura decides „I’ve had Naruto for 5 minutes but if anything where to happen to him I would kill everyone in this room and then myself“

Yagura gets help from the Akatsuki and announced Mei his successor as soon as he fixed everything he messed up.

After meeting Yagura, and finding out he’s also a jinchuuriki, he decides that his goal/dream is to find and befriend all the jinchuuriki and Bijuu.

As the other members of the Akatsuki join they easily join the Naruto projection squad.

They’re no less violent they just also want to keep Naruto smiling and happy.

So basically while Nagato, Konan and Yahiko are the leaders everyone listens to Naruto.

And it wouldn’t be my AU if I didn’t include ships.

Omega!Narutoverse Future Family Headcanons

This is a compilation of my headcanons about future families for my favourite Naruto boys (excluding Kakashi who is childfree in my headcanons.) 

This is very long, so I’ve put most of it under a cut <3 Enjoy~

Naruto:  : 4 children – Son (omega), adopted daughter (alpha), twin sons (betas). 

Has his son about four years before he becomes Hokage.

His son is a huge daddy’s boy type and clings to Naruto every chance that he gets. 

Naruto never lets his role as Hokage take him away from his son any more than absolutely necessary. Does he take his son into his office? Absolutely. He puts down a little play pen on the floor while he works :’). 

His son loves cuddles so much and he is so gentle. 

He doesn’t like pranks though which makes Naruto a little sad but he would never do anything to make his little one sad. 

Male omegas can be identified from birth, so you both knew he was, but even if you didn’t it’s very obvious. He makes his own little nest next to Naruto’s but ends up crawling into Naruto’s for cuddles every time. 

As he gets older, he attends the academy, but he hates it so much. He reminds me a little of a young Itachi, a pacifist to the core. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone! He begs you and Naruto to let him attend the civilian school, and of course you let him. 

Naruto gets a lot of shit for allowing this from some parties *cough* the council *cough*. The Hokage’s children should be powerful ninjas according to them, but Naruto will always prioritise his children’s happiness. Naruto shields his son from the hate as much as possible, but some slips through.

 The transition is easier if you are a civilian, your son feels a little more secure if that’s the case, and he would consider following your footsteps depending on what you do. If you run a little business, he would definitely want to work with you. If you’re also a ninja he can feel left out and unsure, but he grows into such a quietly confident person, who starts a little business. 

Not being a ninja also means he can be there for his younger siblings. He is a dedicated older brother who is always there for them. He has a room for each other them at his house and loads of medical supplies for when they come back from missions injured and won’t go to the hospital. He always patches them up. 

All his younger siblings respect him so much. He is a very reliable person, and his siblings get so offended if they hear any anti-civilian talk from the ninjas they work with.

When Naruto is about a year into working as Hokage, he goes to visit the orphanage, a place that he reformed hugely as soon as he could. It’s so much nicer than it was and he’s so happy. 

But there is one girl that he sees there, and she’s being bullied by some of the other kids. At only three years old, Naruto’s heart breaks for her. Turns out that she’s being teased for being a female alpha. Times have changed a lot, but there are still some horrible stereotypes about male omegas and female alphas, even if those aren’t the norm anymore. 

He intervenes and wipes away her tears, uncomfortably reminded of his own stay at the orphanage when he was her age. He wraps up the visit and leaves, but he just can’t get here out of his head. 

He’s been wanting another child, but he’s still in a vulnerable position so early into being Hokage that he can’t afford the time off for maternity leave. 

Hesitantly, he brings up the idea of adoption to you, when you respond positively, he’s like great 😊, I have one picked already. 

It’s only about a fortnight later that you’re picking her up and bringing her home. At first, she is very shy and reserved but when she gets comfortable, you learn that she is the opposite. 

She’s very forthright and opinionated, she always says what she feels and stands up for injustice. 

Her favourite thing is to come home and tell you and Naruto about her day. She never leaves out any detail and has been known to demand to go and see Naruto while he’s working so that she can tell him about something that happened at school. 

Naruto ends up unwillingly up to date with all the academy drama. 

She’s quite serious and likes to have grown up conversations and sit at the grown ups table. 

She ends up attending the academy and she just thrives on all the history and politics lessons! She great at negotiating and learning about people. 

She makes strong friends and has a tight knit friendship group that she keeps all the way to adulthood. 

She ends up making Chunin pretty quickly but waits a long while before taking the Jounin exam. She ends up specialising in international relations. 

She works as an ambassador for Konoha and gets to travel around all the countries. She adores her job, but she does sometimes miss her family. Naruto gets sad when he sends her for long missions, knowing that he can’t come and see her for that time, but there’s no one he would trust more to act on behalf on Konoha and she always brings back souvenirs for everyone.

The twins are quite a bit younger than the other two. Six years younger than their older sister, and eight years younger than their older brother. 

In a better position now, Naruto wants to try for one final child. 

Of course, you get twins. 

It takes a bit of re-planning, but Naruto is overjoyed at the fact that he’s pregnant with twins! He gives birth to identical twin boys. You can’t tell from birth whether a baby is a male alpha or male beta, and they end up showing signs of being betas when they’re about 12.

These boys are little troublemakers, and Naruto rejoices and finally having some of his children who likes pranks like he does!

They excel at strategy and trap making when they join the academy but the oldest struggles a little with the more academic side. 

Naruto is so patient in helping him because he knows what it’s like to be a physical learner in an academic environment. 

They are the babies of the family and they get away with everything haha. 

When they end up graduating, they are put on the same genin team and they continue to work together for their entire careers. They are similar to Izumo and Kotestu. They know each other so well and both have complimentary skills, so they make a formidable duo on the battlefield. 

Naruto hates sending them on dangerous missions though. If they ever didn’t come back, I don’t think Naruto would recover, knowing that he sent them to the place that they died. 

These two also definitely take on a genin team when they first get promoted to jounin, and they’re great teachers! I can’t decide if they would have one together, or if they would have one each and compete in ridiculous challenges like whose genin team can get the most d ranks done in one day. 

They remind people of Kakashi and Gai in a lot of ways. 

Sasuke:  1 child – daughter (beta).

Sasuke has a daughter in his late twenties, after he’s had some time to deal with his trauma. 

He’s undeniably in a better place but he struggles badly with PPD, making the first year very difficult on your family. 

Eventually things get better though, and you work together to raise your daughter. 

She is wicked smart, very much into scholarly things, but she also loves weapons, particularly any sort of blade. Sasuke teaches her how to use a sword and they bond a lot over it. 

She’s pretty quiet and withdrawn, preferring to read a book or practice with her weapons than socialise. Sasuke tries to get her to make more friends but she calls him out on being a hypocrite and he’s so offended that he drops the issue. 

She does well in the academy but she lowkey hates going. She likes going more if either you or Sasuke are there to pick her up and walk home with her, she doesn’t like walking home alone because the Uchiha compound is so damn far away and isolated. 

When she awakens her sharigan when she’s a chunin, Sasuke has a pretty bad reaction. The sharigan isn’t associated with anything good in his mind, so he freaks out when his daughter activates it. You need to give him some time and support and he’ll come around. He’s the only one who can train her after all. 

Sasuke is so proud of his daughter when she makes Jounin, which of course, she does. I could see her taking on a powerful advisory role for the Hokage as a jounin.

She is someone who believes that there is a lot to learn from history, and is a great advisory asset in helping to avoid past mistakes.

Itachi: Canon = none / Non-massacre Au = 2 children. Son (omega), daughter (beta). 

Has a son shortly after you get married. 

Itachi is a family man through and through and can’t wait to retire from being a ninja (which he hates) to being able to raise his children full time. 

The day Itachi gets moved from the active list to the reserves list after he becomes pregnant is one of the happiest days of his life. 

His son is very responsible and serious. 

He likes to follow Itachi around and help him clean and cook and run errands. He always tidies up his toys and keeps his room clean, and he almost always behaves respectfully and sensibly. 

Itachi never forces him to do too much though, he wants his son to have a fun childhood like he never had. 

Itachi is over the moon when his son shows an interest in calligraphy, happy that his son is picking up a healthy hobby. 

He buys him all the supplies and gets him a teacher if he wants one. It warms Itachi’s heart to see his son interested in something other than chores for once. 

Despite the pressure from the clan for his children to attend the academy, Itachi puts his foot down for one of the first times in his life, saying that his children will only become ninja if they want to. 

His son does in fact want to attend the academy. 

Itachi kind of wishes he didn’t. 

Itachi’s son shows a huge proficiency for fuinjutsu, his calligraphy skills coming in handy. Seeing as the skill is so rare, he becomes one of the leading experts in Konoha. 

Itachi is very supportive and lowkey glad that his son is so powerful and can defend himself. Itachi is also very glad that his son can continue with his fuuinjustsu passion long after he retires from being an active ninja. 

Itachi hopes that safety net (producing seals for other ninjas and continuing to earn money from his hobby) will mean his son can retire whenever he wants and not have to worry. Rather than becoming stuck in the shinobi lifestyle.

Itachi’s daughter is born five years after his son, an age gap that was larger than he would have liked, but he had a pretty traumatic birth the first time around and he needed to give his body some time to recover.

Itachi puts a lot of emphasis on a loving relationship between his children, and his daughter adores her older brother so much! She follows him around and tries to copy him all the time, and he help her with homework and plays with her. 

It makes Itachi very, very happy to see them bond. 

Itachi’s daughter is a beta and has everyone wrapped around her finger from the moment she is born. 

She’s charming, well spoken, and polite but with a very sarcastic personality. 

She has a very similar sense of humour to Itachi actually. A sort of under the breath commentary style. Goodness help anyone who finds themselves opposing Itachi and his daughter. 

Academy teachers get put in their place so fast when they join forces, the teachers don’t even know what happened. 

As Itachi’s daughter joins the academy, she follows after her uncle and develops fangirls and fanboys… She’s very popular. Very popular. 

And she loves it. 

Itachi is not as fond. 

He is not above staring coldly at children for badgering his beloved daughter. 

When she grows up, she works as a ninja, favouring a more jack of all trades kind of style. She likes to learn a little bit of everything. 

She’s the same way with relationships too. She never gets married or mated, preferring casual relationships and has no interest in children, she lives her life doing whatever she wants with whoever she wants. 

Itachi is very proud of her, and secretly very amused when his clan constantly tries and fails to control her.

Shikamaru: 1 child – daughter (alpha)

Shikamaru has a child at about 25, and he knew from the get-go that he was a one and done kind of guy.

He’s not a fan at all of the infant stage and does not want to do it more than once. 

The Nara clan have a very high proportion of alphas, so Shikamaru kinda expected his child to be one. And lo and behold she was. 

His daughter is the spitting image of him in every way. She is the most mellow alpha ever. So much so that most people assume she’s a beta, and she doesn’t really care enough to correct them about it. 

She is also very close to her grandparents, who dote on her and spoil her as much as they can. 

She excels at school in the same way her father did before her, retaining average marks despite being miles ahead of most of her peers.

Shikamaru teaches her how to play shogi and all about the beauty of napping. She takes to them both like a duck to water. She is so much like Shikamaru that everyone comments on it constantly. 

Although, while she loves a good cloud gazing session with her father, she actually takes to creative writing as her favourite hobby. She uses a pseudonym to avoid attention, but she ends up writing a series of books that becomes one of the most popular book series in the shinobi nations. 

Shikamaru is so insanely proud that his daughter can have both a successful ninja career and a successful hobby/side career. He brags to anyone who knows her pseudonym constantly, including you and his parents. 

He also keeps a set of first edition, signed copies of all her books. He reads them when she’s away on long missions sometimes, as a way of feeling closer to her.

Shikamaru and his daughter remain incredibly close all their lives.

Shino: 1 child – daughter (omega)

Shino had a child slightly later than most of his friends, at around 34. 

Shino’s daughter is a very curious child! She’s quiet and withdrawn around strangers but very talkative with her family and close friends.

Her favourite place to be is on Shino’s lap. And when around strangers, she always hides behind him, or buries her face into his shoulder. 

Shino loves to spend time with his daughter outside. He teaches her all about insects and plants, leading her around the woods after when she can still barely walk. 

Shibi does the same with her, and those two are very close. 

Shino is fiercely protective of his daughter, and never forces her into doing things she isn’t comfortable with. He defends her right to be quiet and clingy, and it takes some convincing to get him to understand that she needs to make friends outside of her immediate family. 

When she cries for anything, Shino gives in straight away, as long as she isn’t wanting to do anything extremely dangerous. Because of this, she develops quite the sweet tooth, having had as many cookies as she wanted as a child. 

Shino’s daughter ends up teaching at the academy as a career chunin, because despite being shy around adults, she is fantastic with children, very patient and understanding. 

Shino is very happy with her choices, because he was a little worried that she would end up scarred from a shinobi career, and he hates any situation in which he can’t protect her. 

She has her own children pretty young, and Shino is just a good a grandfather as he is a father.

Neji: 2 children – adopted daughter (beta), adopted son (alpha)

Neji is about 30 when he decides he wants to try to have a baby. 

And he’s 32 when he finally comes to terms with the fact that he isn’t going to be able to conceive naturally because of the suppressant abuse he endured as a child. 

Then, tragically, one of the branch members of his clan dies giving birth. Her mate can’t handle the stress and dies shortly afterwards, leaving their two-year-old daughter and newborn son behind. 

Dying after a mate dies is not super uncommon but is much rarer in the cases where children are involved, so this exact situation doesn’t happen very often. 

His heart breaks for them and he is close to begging you to adopt them with him. 

And soon enough you have two children, siblings, and both Hyuugas like Neji. 

You would never forget Neji’s face when he held his children for the first time. He would never let them be branded with the seal that has impacted his life so much. He would sooner run away from the clan forever.

Neji’s daughter takes a little while to adjust to her new parents, still distraught and grieving over the loss of her previous parents. 

Neji understands and gets her a therapist, but he finds it difficult to watch his child suffer. 

The first time she crawled into bed with you and Neji after a nightmare, Neji cried because she was finally starting to trust you both. 

Neji’s daughter is a beta and when she recovers from her childhood trauma, she shows her true colours as a limelight lover! 

She loves acting and dancing and singing whenever and wherever she can. She plans little plays for you and Neji, sitting you down to perform them for you every weekend. Neji is very proud! 

But he doesn’t really know what to do when his daughter says she doesn’t want to be a ninja. 

He loves and supports her, of course, but he’s thrown off, not really expecting it. 

Eventually, he agrees to send her to a civilian school, and she immediately flourishes there, making so many friends, even starting a little after school performance style club. 

Neji is so incredibly proud when she makes it as a famous actress. He lowkey brags constantly to his friends. 

“Oh, your child just got promoted to chunin? How lovely. My daughter made more money this year than any chunin will see in their life…” Sips tea. 

Neji’s daughter is so glamourous and outgoing and famous, but she never forgets her family, and loves to spoil you, Neji and her younger brother with her money.

Neji’s son doesn’t remember his biological parents and fits into your family seamlessly from day one. As far as he’s concerned, you and Neji are his only parents. 

Just like his older sister, this boy is very extroverted, but rather than singing all the time, he talks. He’s the chattiest person you could ever meet. 

Introverted Neji isn’t 100% sure about how to parent such extroverted children, he just doesn’t understand that they don’t enjoy too much solitary activity time. 

He’s feels a lot better if you’re an extrovert, that way, he can have some alone time to recharge while you handle the children. 

If you’re also an introvert… well, let’s hope Hinata was serious about her babysitting offer. 

Neji’s son talks to everyone as I already mentioned, and adults think he is the cutest thing ever. 

As he grows up, he always helps old people carry their shopping, he helps lost children find their parents, he is basically the alpha every parent dreams of their omega child bringing home. 

He’s very charming and Neji is a lot less surprised when his son says he doesn’t want to be a ninja. 

Eventually ends up working in the orphanage. 

The children adore him so, so much, and he loves his job dearly. 

Neji brags about him too. 

“Wow, your child got top marks in the academy? My child was hand-making birthday gifts for some children at the orphanage when he was 11. He decided to do it all by himself…” sips more tea. 

Whenever she’s in Konoha, his older sister turns up and gives all the kids at the orphanage gifts. She’s like a fun, rich aunt for all of them. 

Neither of Neji’s children have children of their own, as they find their respective careers to be the most fulfilling thing for them.

Neji is a very proud father and is happy when his children are happy.

Iruka: None, or 2 children (he’s happy with either) – adopted son (omega), adopted daughter (omega)

Iruka would be happy with no children because he’s so dedicated to his work and his students, but he also adores children and wouldn’t mind having some of his own. This is an au in which he decides to have children. 

He adopts his son at age 27, pretty soon after the war, choosing to adopt an older child who has less of a chance of being adopted. 

A six-year-old omega with a bright smile and loud laugh, Iruka is immediately taken with him. The war had left many orphans, and it was hard on Iruka to walk around the orphanage, knowing he couldn’t adopt them all. 

Iruka throws as much love as he can as his new son, taking time off work to bond with him properly, making sure to scent him loads and get him used to his new family environment. 

Iruka is thrilled when his son shows a knack for pranks.

He plays the disapproving parent in public, but honestly, he loves it, as long as things don’t go too far. 

Iruka’s son is a very kind-hearted person, if a little rambunctious, and he also has a huge nesting instinct. 

You knew he was an omega when you adopted him, but it was very clear, nonetheless. He has a permanent nest in his room that he likes to chill in with his friends when they come over (he’s very popular with the other kids in his class.). 

When he gets a little older, he goes to the academy, walking to and from every day with Iruka, and develops a passion for medicine when he’s a genin. 

He has great chakra control and eventually ends up working full time at the hospital as an adult. 

He chose a similar path to Iruka, in that he works as a ninja but is primarily based in the village, rarely leaving on missions. 

He makes sure to come home for dinner at least once a week after he’s moved out, no matter how busy the hospital gets. 

Iruka is so proud that his son is so talented and selfless, that sometimes it makes him tear up. 

Iruka knows that he doesn’t want just one child. 

When his parents died, he was all alone and it was horrible for him, so he knows he wants to have two children, so that when you and him die, they’re not alone. 

Iruka is very ready to adopt again about two years after he adopted his son. 

Iruka found the adoption process so rewarding that he wants to do it again over having a biological child. 

He adopts a little girl this time, five years old and also an omega. When Iruka was meeting the children, this girl brought him a paper flower that she had folded as a gift and his heart just melted right then and there. 

She fits in perfectly to your family, your son adored her immediately! 

With three omegas living in your house now, you were very much outnumbered. It was a common occurrence to find yourself missing all your warm clothes, them having been borrowed and buried inside one of the three nests (minimum) nests in your house. 

Iruka’s daughter is a gentle soul, but she is also strong. She appears like an easy target because she is soft spoken and reserved but she has a strong sense of justice and always stands up for herself and others. 

When she’s young, she likes the idea of going into medicine like her older brother as she admires and looks up to him, but she doesn’t like the realities of the job very much. 

She’s great at chakra control, but the idea of wrangling disobedient, injured shinobi doesn’t appeal to her. 

Until one day, on her way home from a friend’s house, she finds an injured stray dog. She brings it home and begs you and Iruka to keep him. So, your family of four turns into a family of five, and she becomes obsessed with veterinary medicine. 

As an adult, she ends up working at the veterinary clinic in the Inuzuka compound. She is committed to helping as many animals as she can, with a particular soft spot for dogs. 

She also joins the rest of her family for dinners at least once a week. Iruka is so overwhelmingly proud that he has two medic children, because he knows how talented you have to be to do that. 

He is also very happy that both his children stay mostly within the village. The war made Iruka a little paranoid, and he doesn’t worry so much when his children are safe within the village walls.

Gaara: 2 children – daughter (alpha), son (alpha)

Gaara has his children the youngest out of everyone his age that he knows. He had his daughter when he had just turned 21, and his son five years later when he was 26. 

His daughter is Gaara’s sweetheart. 

He adores her so much and spends as much time as he can with her. He is so gentle with her and loving all the time. 

Gaara’s daughter is very energetic and playful, but also quite sensitive. 

She loves positive attention, loves to play with everyone who will engage with her. 

She’s a very family-oriented person and loves spending time with Kankuro and Temari when you and Gaara are busy. 

However, because you, Gaara, Temari and Kankuro always treated her so gently, she was quite sensitive to people being angry or shouting at her. 

Once, her teacher at school shouted at her for talking in class and she ran straight to the Kazekage’s office crying. Gaara was furious. He hates when his children cry, so much. He let her stay with him for the rest of the day to calm her down, sending you a message to let you know he was looking after her. 

Gaara’s daughter visited him constantly, often bringing little lunchboxes of food for him, learning to new recipes constantly. 

Trying to surprise him, she develops a great skill in cooking. 

She decides, in the end, not to follow the shinobi route. She opens her own restaurant in Suna, charming customers with her amazing hostess skills and phenomenal cooking. 

She allows all her family to eat for free, but they all pay anyway, because they love to support her. Gaara, especially, always leaves a huge tip for her and her staff.

Gaara’s son is born five years after his daughter, another alpha, leaving Gaara very outnumbered, with both his siblings, his mate and his children all being alphas. 

Gaara’s son is very quiet and tactile. 

He loves cuddles and hugs but doesn’t speak very much. 

He enjoys spending time with Gaara in Gaara’s nest, despite not having nesting instincts of his own. 

Gaara’s son is very close to you and Gaara. He always tells you when something is bothering him, and although he doesn’t speak much, he chooses his words carefully and they always mean something.

He actually excels at shinobi school, both in academics and in sparring, and moves up the ranks quickly. He spends a lot of time training with Kankuro and gets into puppetry. 

Even when he becomes a jounin, he spends time with Gaara in his nest, still loving physical affection. 

Gaara enjoys hosting family gatherings for everyone, his daughter cooks loads of dishes for it, his son makes sure to take time off missions to attend, and sometimes Temari drags Shikamaru to Suna as well to join them all. 

Gaara smiles more often than not now, feeling so proud of the life he crafted for himself, and the family he worked hard to create.

am i the onlyone who thinks Obito is a Gryffindor?? I can't see him as a Slytherin at all. also what do you think Sakura is?? I keep switching between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor but leaning more to Gryffindor, also what about Ino, Temari and Gaara houses?

The following list shows which house I would personally sort the Konoha 12, the Sand Siblings, and Obito in.

Naruto - Gryffindor (he charges in headstrong to the point of recklessness, and was the personification of the Will of Fire, Gryffindor’s signature element).

Sasuke - Slytherin (he’s very ambitious, became the leader of his own clique (Taka), and has an affinity for snake summons, which is Slytherin’s emblematic animal).

Sakura - Gryffindor (she’s headstrong, short tempered, and very daring).

Neji - Ravenclaw (he’s very intelligent, and had an ongoing motif of the freed bird, which is Ravenclaw’s emblematic animal).

Lee - Hufflepuff (he’s very just, fair, and a really nice guy, to the point where he even has the “nice guy” pose).

Tenten - Hufflepuff (she’s demonstrated a lot of patience towards her teammates, and dedication towards her craft).

Hinata - Hufflepuff (she is patience, loyalty and kindness personified).

Kiba - Gryffindor (he’s very daring, has a lot of nerve, and is always willing to say what needs to be said).

Shino - Slytherin (he can be very resourceful and cunning).

Shikamaru - Ravenclaw (he has inhuman levels of intelligence, and he is wise beyond his years).

Ino - Gryffindor (she’s headstrong and short tempered).

Choji - Hufflepuff (he’s very kind, loyal, and is an Earth type, which is Hufflepuff’s signature element).

Gaara - Hufflepuff (a tough one to sort, but at heart, he is truly patient with others, loving, fair, just and modest).

Temari - Gryffindor (she's bold, audacious, daring and determined. She can also be short tempered, like the other Gryffindor girls).

Kankuro - Slytherin (very cunning in his fights, prideful of his village, and resourceful with the use of his puppets).

Obito - Gryfindor (he's a carbon copy of Naruto).

So overall, my house placements would be Gryffindor x 6 (Naruto, Sakura, Kiba, Ino, Temari and Obito), Ravenclaw x 2 (Neji and Shikamaru), Hufflepuff x 5 (Lee, Tenten, Hinata, Choji and Gaara), and Slytherin x 3 (Sasuke, Shino and Kankuro).

 “KAKASHI-SENSEI!”

 The blonde boy crashed through the doors, failing to stop at the entrance of his sensei’s home and ended up throwing himself into the couch. Kakashi, having sensed his student’s presence from a mile away and already braced himself for the impact, simply smiled and nodded to the child.

 “Good morning, Naruto,” He said.

 “KAKASHI-SENSEI,” Naruto cried, “DON’T YOU KNOW WHAT TODAY IS?”

 Kakashi feigned ignorance, looking up to the ceiling in pretend thought as his student pushed himself off the couch to plant himself firmly in front of his teacher, who was sitting at his dining table and enjoying a breakfast full of simple oatmeal and the world's most iron-rich well water.

 “I can’t seem to recall today being of any remarkable moment, Naruto,” Kakashi said, an indication of playful sarcasm in his voice. Naruto, being the child he is, pulled on the sleeve of his sensei and stomped his feet in distress.

 “Cmon!” He cried, “It’s my birthday! I know you didn’t forget!”

 Kakashi couldn’t stand seeing Naruto in this state of upset any longer, even though he caused it himself. He stood up and, with a painful pop in his back, lifted the boy up to swing him around in a circle in celebration.

 “Of course I didn’t forget, Naruto!” Kakashi smiled as he set the boy down. “I was just messing with you. Now, how about we go out and celebrate? Ichiraku opens in a few minutes, you know.”

 Naruto’s eyes lit up and Kakashi felt his heart soften. His students were as close as he’d ever get to having children of his own and he took pride in his love for the kids - seeing them in excitement like this made him all but break down in tears of parental love.

 “YEAH!” Naruto yelled, pumping his fists into the air, and promptly exited the room. “I’m gonna go get ready, Kakashi-Sensei! Don’t take too long, old man!” Kakashi heard his feet patter down the hallway and dash through the open window, likely dashing across the rooftops to get back to his own home and put on whatever outfit he could find.

 Kakashi smiled fondly and took out his phone, ready to send the text.

 “SURPRISE!”

 The voices of Naruto’s best friends, allies, teachers, and biggest supporters echoed throughout the room. Dozens of people were currently squished inside the small interior of Ichiraku Ramen as they struggled to remain quiet for Naruto’s arrival, desperate to not only relieve themselves of being so squished together, but to also see the look of surprise and excitement on the boys face as he realized just how many Konohagakure people cared for him deeply.

 “Are you frickin’ kidding me?!” Naruto exclaimed with a smile on his face. “Are all of you here for ME?!”

 “Of course we are, buddy!” Jiriya responded, smiling. “We couldn’t miss the big day, you know.”

 “You’re our best bud, Naruto,” Choji chimed in, accompanied by his own teammates and their shared classmates, “we wouldn’t miss your birthday for the world!”

 Naruto didn’t know what to do with himself - all he could do was stand in shock as his eyes darted across the room, taking a makeshift attendance to see just who was there.

 His teachers - Jiraiya, Kakashi, Killer Bee, and Iruka - were all present. They were standing proudly and absolutely delighted to see their favorite student in such a state of delight.

 His best friends - The Konoha Twelve, even Sakura and Sasuke were present. Gaara and his siblings had made their way to Konoha for the celebration and, in turn, were glad to greet him at Ichiraku Ramen.

 His biggest supporters, those who helped him the most, were also present. Lady Tsunade and Shizune greeted him with a hug and, with a motherly tone, Lady Tsunade stated just how happy she was to have Naruto’s trouble-loving self in the village. Teuchi, the man behind the counter of Ichiraku after every mission, held a bowl of the most delicious and filling ramen he had ever made. Naruto was excited to not only receive this bowl, but to also witness the love and respect that Teuchi had for him.

 The birthday cake and presents were the last to be brought out. Some people couldn’t stay for the entire duration of the party (“Land of Stone is where I’ve gots to be / A happy birthday to you from tha’ Killa’ Bee!”) and the room had since gotten more spacious. The cake was just enough for the remaining party after a few had left and was decorated to have the Uzumaki crest on the top of it, a symbol of not only Naruto's heritage, but of the love and support his parents had given from the grave.

 “Your parents would be so proud of you, kid,” Jiraiya said as he cut the cake, “I know I would if I was your dad.”

 ��Thanks, pervy sage,” Naruto smiled.

 A hand pushed itself onto the boy's head, ruffling his hair. “I’m proud to have you as my student, Naruto. You’ve shown amazing progress and I can’t wait to see what else you can do.”

 Naruto looked to Kakashi, who was smiling down at the birthday boy. He giggled and gave Kakashi a quick hug, feeling the warmth within his chest.

 “Happy birthday, Naruto,” Shikamaru chimed in, “this party isn’t such a drag after all.”

 The candles on the cake were lit - there were twelve in total, each one representing one year of his life - and the group sang what could now be considered the most off-key and off-rhythm version of Happy Birthday to date.

 Naruto was given the first slice of cake, of course, and he instantly ate the entire piece in almost one bite.

 “Here’s my gift to you, Naruto!” Sakura said, sliding a box toward her teammate after the cake had been dispersed. He opened it excitedly and found a golden necklace with a pendant, a seven etched into the gold. “It’s matching necklaces for the team,” she smiled, and showcased her own necklace that she was wearing. Naruto turned to Sasuke, who sighed and pulled his own from under his shirt. He then turned to Kakashi, who was idly chatting with Might Guy in the corner, and saw the glimmer of the gold peeking out from his Jonin jacket. Naruto smiled and pulled the chain over his head, happily displaying the necklace. “Thanks, Sakura!” He smiled. “I love it!”

 “Here,” Sasuke shoved a small box toward Naruto, “take it.” Naruto ignored the rudeness that was consistent with his best friend and tore open the packaging. Inside the small box was a gift certificate to Ichiraku Ramen - a value of $100 was scribbled across the certificate’s value line.

 “I’ve already given the money to Teuchi,” Sasuke explained, “so you don’t even need to pay. He’ll just keep track of it.”

 Naruto was bordering on tears at this point, mesmerized by the value of ramen, and could hardly utter a thank you. He threw himself at Sasuke, who was quick to scramble and try to push the boy off of him. “THANK YOU,” Naruto cried, already picturing the endless amount of ramen he was going to eat.

 The rest of the day was spent receiving an absurd amount of gifts from Naruto’s extensive family - from gift cards and awesome toys to sentimental mementos, the birthday boy was receiving enough gifts to last him a lifetime.

 Kakashi had walked Naruto home at the end of the day. He had yet to give the boy his own present, and Naruto was beginning to notice. He went over the list in his head and realized that the only person who didn’t get him something was his sensei, Kakashi, and he was getting increasingly concerned that the man really did forget about his birthday.

 “Naruto,” Kakashi said as the pair came upon the blonde’s home, “I didn’t give you your gift yet.” A smile appeared on Naruto’s face immediately as a wave of relief washed over him. Naruto unlocked his front door and entered with Kakashi, who set down his giant bag of gifts on the table. He turned to his student and smiled under his mask.

 “I wanted to save it for when we were alone. Here, hold out your hands.”

 Naruto did as he was told. He extended his arms and shut his eyes, anxiously awaiting whatever Kakashi was about to give him.

 A familiar weight was placed in his hands with a metal      clink    , and Naruto opened his eyes. A three-spiked kunai with an inscription on the handle was placed in his palms. He furrowed his brow and played with the kunai in his hand, examining it carefully. “What.. is it?” He asked.

 Kakashi flipped over the kunai in Naruto’s hands and pointed at a small engraving on the base of the blade.      Minato Namikaze     was written, and Naruto was only more confused.

 “This is your fathers kunai,” Kakashi finally explained.

 Decades of memories with Minato flashed through Kakashi’s eyes, and a part of him felt saddened by the parting with his dear sensei’s kunai. He remembers the day that Minato gave him the blade, each second of that meeting ingrained in his mind forever.

 “He gave it to me many years ago, back when I was just a little brat,” Kakashi chuckled, “and he gave it to me on my 15th birthday. He said it was a symbol of my promise as a shinobi.”

 “Your promise as a shinobi?” Naruto muttered, eyes dancing over the blade in his hands.

 Kakashi nodded. “I think it’s time for the kunai to be passed down to you, Naruto.”

 Tears poked at the child’s eyes. This was one of the only mementos that he now owned from his parents - the rest were, unfortunately, lost to time.

 “Thank you, Kakashi-sensei,” Naruto sniffled.

 The boy set down the kunai carefully on the coffee table with his other presents. Immediately after, he pulled Kakashi into a hug, clinging onto the man's waist like it was life or death. Kakashi smiled and felt his own tears threaten to fall, desperate to release.

 Kakashi looked down at the boy, whose head barely reached his chest, and fluffed his hair fondly. “Happy birthday, kiddo,” he said, “I’m so proud of you.”
