➨ He won't say it out loud, but he will let you know that he adores you when you give him the same kind of treatment he does for you. ➨ Judging from his liking to shadow plays and performing in general, I'd headcanon that he observes the romantic aspects to the play, and tries testing them on you to see which one you would like or not.

➨ While observing these plays, he developed his romantic language as he learned new compliments and picked up lines to use on you. But don't test him. If you try to be snarky about your flirting skills, he will immediately turn the tables and it will end up you losing and as red as a tomato.

➨ On the topic of Macaque being a theatre fanatic, BIG fan of music, especially musicals and classical music. He'd show his interest with you by letting you listen, and if you like his genre of music, both of you would end up talking about your favourite musicals or opera or whatever it is you like, and probably rant about the remakes that aren't as good as the original.

Younger Law, 20-22, finally loosing his virginity after trying since he turned 17. Guy's probably older by maybe 3 years, and it makes a difference, first person to get Law to calm down enough to not instantly ghost them once more than a shirt comes off, first person to make Law want to be heard by the neighbors, first person to fuck Law so sweet and good he almost considers offering them a place on his crew cause god all mighty the dick is that persuasive. Also, as a treat, they switch at some point or a few, still a lot of his partner talking Law through it and giving him special attention for doing so good at fucking them. I feel like Law is a default soft top/sub top, he can lay pipe when asked but bro just wanna be praised for doing a good job fr. Virgin Law being afraid of a strap is the funniest thing to me, like I can just imagine him making that face he usually does when he’s in complete shock, except now it’s also mixed with a touch of terrified because this colorful piece of silicone is threatening to destroy his hole. Anyways, as for my input, imagine marine hunter, or solo pirate reader actually being the one that helps him get over his fear. He already doesn’t have a good rep with either, but you’re able to smooth talk him enough to get him in a hotel room with you (bonus points if reader has an accent, or is just really fucking good with their words.), only to see how tense and awkward this man is.

You spend like a good 10-15 minutes just calming him down and setting up some boundaries with him, and he’s surprised as fuck because A.) you’re this super dangerous person but you’re actually super sweet?? And B.) you’re one of the first people to take the time to check in constantly with him.

Except at some point it pisses him off how nice you are, you’re balls deep in him and have already checked in with him 3 fucking times! If you don’t just make him scream your god damn name!

And now the fun part is that because you’re a marine hunter/solo pirate you’re usually just wandering from island to island with your own agenda, sometimes you just stop by wherever the fuck Law is now because you’re both in this unlabeled relationship with each other.

Sometimes you get him coins, medical books, more coins, just any gift you’d think he’d appreciate because you like seeing that stupid grin he gets when something he likes is in his hands.

What about a kitsune Desmond, a white fox appears shortly after Altaïr's birth white as snow with one black leg and golden eyes it follows Altaïr for his entire life seemingly never aging and smarter than any animal should be. Years after Altaïr's death Des feels a pull and shows up at the birth of Ezio and gains a second tail, the same trend continues with the Frye twins, the Kenways and the other two post Altaïr protagonists whose names escape me right now which if my math is correct leaves him able to get his ninth tail as he steals his infant self from the farm

I'd imagine he'd get more powers from each tail he grows maybe foxfire with his second (fire that burns as bright as the sun) and gaining a human form around 4 or 5

I’m going to be honest with you, nonny, I know a bit about kitsunes, specifically fox spirits, because one of my favorite characters during my childhood is Daji (specifically Dakki from the og Houshin Engi anime) and I never stopped loving her in all her malicious tyrannical glory.

While fox spirits/kitsunes can be benevolent or malicious, a lot of fox spirits are shown to be trickster.

… and seducers.

Like, being able to shapeshift into beautiful women and men who ‘bewitches’ or seduces humans are signs of how old a fox spirit is XD

But I kinda like the idea that Desmond remains as a fox the entire time, never changing in size or weight.

His tails can easily be ‘disguised’ into one tail by making sure they all move as one so it just looks like he has one big bushy tail (which is strange but not ‘mythical’ strange).

Now, we want Desmond to have 9 tails so the list of people would be:

Shapeshifts to any human he is familiar with (having genetic connections with them makes it faster to shift to their form)

Shapeshifts to anything that is not human

Possession (having a genetic connection with Desmond Miles makes it easier to possess that person)

Ability to cast illusions that are almost impossible to distinguish from reality

Omniscience due to a direct connection with the Calculations

(These are all powers that are more or less seen in kitsune stories. If you think there’s too many shapeshifting powers, kitsunes are also known for being able to turn invisible, can fly, bend time and space or make people crazy)

Oh and making Desmond a white kitsune is *chef’s kiss*. In folklore, a white kitsune has reaches the top of its powers and is called celestial/heavenly which is a good foreshadowing on how powerful Desmond could become.

La Cité Médiévale

Propaganda : I love that fucking village so much everyone need to see it. Look at the way the streets flows between the houses, this thing is so well constructed it looks like it could be an actual medieval village, a problem a lot of builds have that this one doesn't, it's believable! All the houses are able to coexist while not being copies of each others, but variation, so when you look at the build from an outside scale, it seems like a city, but the details make it that when you are exploring it on ground level, it become an adventure! And that castle and Montains are just so cool looking! | everyone should go and check out aurelien_sama holycube season 5 vidéo "une saison en timelapse" or at least the start of it, it's a timelapse of all of his builds in the season, including La Cité Médiévale (you can even see the flags change from belgian to french since they had a little prank war going on with those)! Everything in the image was made by him and a few friend, its no just a village, but also two castle and a full montain range, the build itself took almost a year to build and was made in survival, and how gosh does it look amazing

So a lot of what I’m about to say has to do with my preference for character driven storytelling and is pretty much just me putting down my thoughts. Feel free to leave your thoughts on this but don’t take this too seriously

I think a lot of the side characters from Danny Phantom are hard to incorporate into a DP x DC crossover, especially on their own

Because most of them are pretty normal teenagers and are harder to fit into a superhero story. They tend to be somewhat flat and their interesting traits tend to be how the relate to Danny or each other

Like, I’m not inherently interested in Paulina just being in DC because she’s a pretty shallow popular girl stereotype. There’s not a lot to her that makes her an interesting addition on her own to the setting, which is probably why a lot of people default to essentially make being from amity Park a superpower. I don’t think it adds a lot personally, but that’s a completely different rant

Dash being in DC on his own isn’t that interesting because he’s the archetype of a jock and a bully. So to compensate you see people make him insanely competent like the rest of Amity Park, or actually give him a superpower.

But the thing is, their actual character gets neglected to make that happen, which is kind of disappointing

I just think it would be nice to see who they are as a person matter more. Paulina, spoiled former popular girl now living in the real world on her own for the first time? Coming to terms with her popularity no longer mattering? Or chasing that high by trying to get famous because she needs that external validation

Dash, jock and former bully. He’s living a life where the fact he played high school football doesn’t matter, he doesn’t get the specialized treatment that it used to give him. Or he’s playing at a higher level and where he was really good before he now is dealing with the fact that everyone else is just as talented. He’s no longer THE star quarterback. Or he’s unpacking his baggage regarding his former bullying. Internalized homophobia and coming to terms with his own sexuality? Actively trying to change for the better? Seeing his old behaviors in others and trying to do the right thing?

I just think who they are should impact the story if they’re involved. If you could change the name and I wouldn’t be able to tell who it is, then why should it be this character? What about the character makes them different in this role than inserting any other character? How does who they are affect their situation for better or for worse?

Let’s take an example: Paulina becoming a reporter in metropolis. Regardless of how good she might be at the job, what character traits does she have that might affect how she does. Well, first, she was popular, that’s her big thing. She knows how to interact with people, make them like her when it suits her interests. This probably means she turns on the charm when doing interviews but is maybe a little bitchy the rest of the time. Based on her personality in the show she would probably gravitate to the society pages, wanting to cover stories involving the rich and famous, galas and all that.

See, in this example, she can still be good at her job but her character traits affect how she does things. She’s a more complicated character, and she might not handle things the same way Lois Lane does, but she can still use her abilities to get the job done through charm and manipulation. This could also lead to conflict because she can be rude to people she doesn’t need anything from, which if she does that to the wrong person, putting on the charm and batting her eyes at them isn’t going to work

Again this is largely based on my preference for character based storytelling. Characters and who they are matter and are what drives the plot. This is in contrast to plot based storytelling which is events happen to the character without their thoughts and decisions impacting the story. Plot based storytelling is an older style which you see a lot in old legends and fairytales, where things just kind of happen to the character. It’s not inherently better or worse but modern taste overall leans more towards character driven stories

Even Sally who people love for being so “nice” to MC gives a love that has made them regress into a person who lacks independence and real understanding of basic life skills. An interesting question for that, is any kind of love ok as long as it’s love? Do people easily accept a love just because it’s default and there’s no other choice? That’s like the question I wanna try to answer with Sally and MC and really there is perhaps no wrong answer because I’m not a judge

Other people might play it differently, but as a reader I think that it makes sense for someone in MC's situation who hasn't been shown much love/affection/care to be grateful for Sally's love (I thought those options in the update and how MC explained them to Dr Madorna was really interesting!)

MC was ostracised from their peers likely in part due to their own actions (apart from Nia), and their other family members’ feelings towards them seems to range from indifference, fear, anger/hate, to disgust. When you receive so little you will accept what scraps you get, even if it's accompanied by toxicity or abuse (that you may not even recognise). I think that's one of the reasons why people with abusive parents are more likely to be in abusive relationships (or be abusive themselves), because it's harder for them to recognise what a healthy relationship is.

I do think that as the story goes on, as the MC develops their friendships, as they spend more time with people outside of their messed up family, as they develop more of a personal identity & worldview, etc. then my MC might start seeing Sally in a different light. But then again it does seem like the MC has some self-awareness of how much Sally has done for them. I could see them trying to appease him out of a sense of “he sacrificed for me, so I owe him”, which feels very “child of immigrant parents” lol.

You could also say that without Sally’s flawed love, the MC would have been in an even more dire position. Maybe they did need Sally to give them a fighting chance in life, but now they need to spread their wings.

But yeah you touched on the question I asked, about how people in certain situations accept things others in more normal situations might not because it’s the only world they’ve ever known. I really liked the options with the dr madorna scene because you can chose to be an mc who is blindly devoted to Sally, if not out of love out of a sense of eternal debt, or an mc that in a way has always hated him as they view him as a jailer, another flavour of the family but still from that family and it doesn’t help that Sally has so much pride in the family name and legacy a legacy which mc has never been able to live up to and which by the circumstances of their life placed them as a undeserving of carrying the name by those who have it.

It’s interesting to think about how would mc’s life be without him, perhaps this is the best outcome or maybe they would’ve been fine, turned out like Percy, a black sheep entirely forgotten. Maybe without Sally, mc and Percy could’ve developed that bond and supported each other. I like to think mc’s chances wouldn’t have been so bad. It could’ve been better without him, could’ve been worse which is why it’s so hard for mc to untangle themselves, the dinner scene was one moment where if you chose they tried, they relented but they tried which I think is important just as they doubled down and remained ever so loyal and grateful.

I see both sides, the advantages and disadvantages. What happens when an unstoppable force crashes against an unmovable object?

she’s intensely protective over you and will gladly threaten or get physical with anyone who tries to cause you harm — it’s taken her decades to find you and she’s not planning on losing you anytime soon

Apologies for the wait on this answer, anon. I took so long to answer you because I knew I'd done this meme at least a couple of times before years ago, and I thought I should refer back to my thoughts about things back when Death Note canon was a lot fresher in my mind. But upon digging way back into my archives I still wasn't able to find it, and I also realized that half the time my thoughts on these matters often tend to change a little anyways. So let's just do it all up again right quick:

LAWLIGHT + Which one is the better cook:

I feel as though in canon neither of them really have taken an interest in cooking or cooked for themselves or others much at all. Light was probably always being cooked for by Sachiko when he lived with his parents, and I think he was working so often that he was barely home after the timeskip as well. Strikes me as somebody who just would buy something to eat or skip a meal instead in order to focus on other kinds of stuff.

Likewise, L was definitely being catered to by Watari for his meals in canon, and I feel as though he too would default to either letting someone else make his food or just buying it instead of cooking himself.

HOWEVER I feel as though if one of the two of them took up cooking that Light would be the better cook. Light strikes me as somebody who would learn quickly and follow a recipe well and only improvise on things if he actually had the experience under his belt to know it was a legit improvement. L certainly seems like the bigger foodie of the two, but I think he's also somebody who would only skim a recipe or forgo reading one altogether because he thinks he can just wing it intuitively, and also to completely forget he has something on the stove or in the oven because he's so preoccupied thinking about something else. More inclined to be served food and have strong opinions about how it turned out than to make it for himself or anybody else.

LAWLIGHT + What their love letters look like:

Honestly it's a bit hard for me to picture either of them writing a straightforward conventional love letter to each other. The first thing that popped into my head from canon when Light was making those "L do you know..." puzzles for L using the last words of the incarcerated criminals that he killed with the notebook experimentally. Teasing and flirting publicly somehow with each other in a subtle, coded innuendo sort of way as they interact with each other amongst the "regular" folks they're surrounded by who either aren't in on the joke or are being unwittingly used to help facilitate the joke haha

LAWLIGHT + Which one outlives the other, and how they cope:

UNFORTUNATELY I THINK WE ALL KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS ONE. And I think we know exactly how Light coped.

I think that L would like to THINK he would've coped just fine and continued on as normal if he'd been the one to outlive Light instead, but in my mind he'd never have been able to emotionally move on from Light and whatever intense ambiguous thing had been going on between them, either. Nothing else would ever quite compare for him in terms of the stakes and challenge and emotional investment and everything else. He'd cope by trying to carry on doing exactly what he always does as the best detective in the world, but it just wouldn't hit the same for him the way it used to in the past.

LAWLIGHT + What they do on date night:

I think their tennis/coffee date was basically how they'd actually go on a date in a romantic context as well. Lots of competing and showing off for each other in public together and analyzing each other and probably talking about work way more than most people would want to talk about work during their off time.

LAWLIGHT + How many kids they'll have:

I don't really picture them as wanting to have kids together normally, but it's always funny to me to think of Light as the evil stepmom to the Wammy's crew (the way he usurps L's position definitely smacks of that trope to me in the funniest way)

LAWLIGHT + How they decorated their bedroom:

Neither of them are great interior decorators in my mind, it's just not what they care to think about. Light's all stark practicality and rigid organization about his living space, and L's all lazy minimalism and bougie stuff that he would only include with his own specific comfort in mind. They'd probably end up hiring someone to do it with L's money. I think Light would be better at it, though. L's probably never lived in one place long enough to have many great ideas about how to decorate a home in a long-term sort of way

LAWLIGHT + Which one is the worse driver:

I love imagining that Light doesn't have a driver's license because of how we never actually see him driving in canon at any point, hahaha. I feel like L's probably a bit of a better driver (if only because we saw him piloting the helicopter that one time). I think he'd be a TERRIBLY bossy backseat driver to Light if Light ever took the wheel, too (thinking of stuff like how much he was watching Light like a hawk and pointing out all of his little mistakes when Light was playing L on the phone for him and whatnot)

LAWLIGHT + What they argue about:

I think most of their arguments would be nearly incomprehensible to the average person because they're both playing 15 levels of chess in their minds and speaking in riddles and testing their little theories about each other instead of just communicating in a straightforward and mature manner, but that generally they actually get along extremely well and agree on most things and don't want each other to change in any way.

HOWEVER, I also LOVE the idea that in a long-term relationship Light would start arguments with L constantly about how he never takes good enough care of himself and his health (it comes off superior and naggy and patronizing to the outsider POV, but REALLY it's mostly because Light wants L to stay alive as long as physically possible and feels heartsick at the thought of going back to living without L)

LAWLIGHT + Which one swears more:

I don't think either of them would swear that much? Light might've had more scolding at home for using bad language than L ever would've, though, so I could more easily picture L swearing than Light

LAWLIGHT + What TV shows they watch together, and which ones they hide from the other:

I'm not sure about the specific shows, but I imagine L would watch whatever Light likes watching because Light grew up a much more regular TV watcher than him, and it gives L even more fun things to psychoanalyze about Light. Light's probably also a lot better at introducing L to things he's interested in than L is at introducing Light to things (Light's kind of a natural teacher and has had the experience of helping other students with their homework and so on many times before. In my mind L would be lot more impatient as a teacher and less well-versed in what a normal amount of general knowledge on any subject is, and often kinda just like: "doesn't everybody know this or do things this way already?")

I think L would be the more likely one to hide something he liked watching for some reason too? Maybe because he's so used to being behind the scenes and secretive and Light's so used to being watched... L might hide something totally mundane that he likes to watch but knows Light would find a bit stupid or baffling, like enjoying the same reality TV shows that Light laughs at Sayu for enjoying or something ahaha. The more embarrassing thing for L if he got caught would be admitting that he cared what Light thought of his taste in shows than admitting that he enjoyed watching that thing, though.

LAWLIGHT + What their first impression was of each other:

"JUST WHO DOES THIS GUY THINK HE IS!?!?!" + "Not sure what this says about me, but I don't think I've ever related to anybody more strongly in my life..."

LAWLIGHT + What they do for their anniversary:

This is like THE hardest question for me in these memes, but I feel like they'd definitely be pretty secretly sentimental about their relationship in their own weird ways.... just not sure about the specifics of it, or if they'd find joy in celebrating their relationship in the usual/conventional ways

LAWLIGHT + Which one makes a bigger deal of birthdays:

Light! At first Light would have to overcome his reservations about birthday celebrations being a bit childish once you're an adult, but he'd also be extremely good at remembering L's birthday once he finally learned what it was, because he cherishes every single little thing he actually knows about L personally and never wants to forget it. L would also possibly enjoy spoiling Light rotten on both of their birthdays and be the better and more creative gift-giver of the two. I could see him liking giving Light experiences he's never had before but mentioned wanting to try, and I could see Light being better at planning out all the details of the fun things they're going to do on their birthdays a while in advance

LAWLIGHT + What nicknames they call each other:

I could see Light doing things like using some of L's aliases sarcastically or ironically at times to tease or prove certain points to L, and likewise could see L doing the same thing with various titles Light's been bestowed by other people in a dry-humoured sort of way... I can just picture them using the nicknames to roast each other more than anything, but in a way that's kind of how they show their affection for each other as well

LAWLIGHT + What they would change about each other:

Almost nothing, actually! They're not an "I can fix him" couple, they'd be way more of an "you're perfect the way you are, and anybody who thinks otherwise is an idiot who doesn't get you with absolutely no taste" sort of couple

I'm an OSDD system with no memory blackouts & with excellent communication and awareness between alters, and we all love each other pretty much.. just our main problem is like, emotional and perspectival dissonance? Like for instance, Sonya has a very lighthearted take on the world at all times, and if we are feeling heaviness & despair, she cannot take these on and another alter will be expressing those emotions. And then our trauma holders look at the world with such fear and despair - and no matter how we know intellectually, or other alters know, that it's ok and that we're good… it doesn't get through to them, emotionally.

I imagine, if we were fused, it would just be a lot smoother… because I would feel bad and then I would be able to draw on all my resources and comfort in order to directly reach that feeling and soothe it.

Have you experienced this kind of thing during your integration process & how has that changed with fusion?

Oh yeah absolutely. I'd say that our emotional and perspective differences were probably the biggest factors in our dissociation, in our system especially we could really separate out which feelings/emotions "belonged" to which alter. Part of our healing journey was getting each of us to let go of that feeling/emotion being the core of our identity and thus allowing ourselves to feel other emotions. Purple was a lot of of zany optimism, Green was our "anger alter", Cyan our anxiety, etc. And slowly, we had to learn how to sit with other emotions instead of dissociating them from ourselves. Cyan learned how to be angry and accept that he had those feelings himself, which in turn eventually allowed him to relate to Green's anger and eventually fuse together. Purple realized she does get sad and lonely and pretending otherwise was just making her worse, which in turn helped the littles feel understood by her and thus having them accept her as one of them. Post-fusion, I'd say it's smoother, but more than that my feelings are more complex now. There's layers to my emotions that I didn't realize I lacked before, and with each fusion I was able to feel more of that complexity. And, in a way, my expression of each emotion has also mellowed out some? I'm no longer quite at any one extreme. Don't get me wrong, those extremes absolutely still exist! But it takes a lot more for me to reach those extremes whereas before they felt like my default.

Drawbacks: has many enemies, you will be attacked OFTEN. Rare chance for you to be taken to detention center for someone else’s crime because of your record. You have a meter that shows your level of anger (occasionally glitches to see sadness/other emotions bar underneath), that can be used for upgrades (not purchased by cash) or if it gets too high you die (like the end of the actual book..) Extra: you have many interactions with Tim, can be turned into fights if you wish.

This is due to you being overworked, and the only way to make it go away is to skip a day of work. (this will lose you 10 dollars.. dangerous). Another thing with this effect- when fighting enemies, you may miss a turn because you are too tired to go fast enough. (if an enemy sees you tired without you hiding, they will attack on sight) Also, if Soda or Pony catches you without you using the function to hide your exhaustion, you will be forced to skip work or argue. (if you lose enough relationship w/ them, PB will run away, and Soda will be sad and not talk to you.)

You also have to play meditator, in which you essentially help both sides play tug of war, evening things out and making each side see the other one. If you fail, Pony runs away and you don’t have a game over, but the world becomes duller (actually, the colors change for real) and during every interaction you must push your feelings down. If you are caught, you have to talk your way out of it. (only allows wins, required for story.. forced lose when PB gets back)

If Dallas does take the blame and goes to jail, if the event is set off where PB and Johnny run away, you have to help them instead (you are closest to PB other than Soda and Johnny). Along with this, you are drunk often, so you may be taken by surprise more in fights. Due to your drunkenness, you also can’t work and have to borrow money for upgrades by doing tasks for other greasers. (upgrades that are beyond food, Two-Bit’s switchblade, and drink cannot be stolen).

Johnny

Benefits: you are willing to kill to keep yourself and others safe, meaning you die the least in battles (I had to give him something, okay). You have your head in the clouds, so you may get surprise attacks more often, and you have the chance to receive timed tasks late and suffer the consequences if they are not done on time. Extra: you get more interactions with Johnny, Two-Bit, and Sodapop, but less with Steve and Darry. Based on the choices you make, Dallas interactions vary. Curly is optional, but you can interact with him more than any other character can.

Reasons why I chose the Redemption ending in Veilguard (part 2 re Lavellan) + The character height mystery of Solavellan in the game

Now I’m gonna explain the in character reasons why my Rook chose to reunite Solavellan.

First, I find the depiction of a romanced Lavellan in DAV curious. One thing I can’t figure out and can’t get out of my head due to OCD is the height difference of Solavellan.

I can’t figure out the height in the cc in Veilguard. When I chose ~+10% height for my female elf Rook, I thought that meant she was a little above average in height, so in reality I imagine she’s about 165cm/5’5? But when she came out of cc, she was freaking shorter than everyone except for the dwarfs 🤣 In the end I increased her height to ~+35%, and she’s still freaking shorter than even the elf companion Bellara. So how fucking tall is everyone??

The curious thing is, the default height for the default Elven Inquisitor is around +7% (can’t remember the exact number). When I did her cc, I thought surely the game would know her height especially since the height does not just sit at 0%. I still increased the height to ~+13% just to be sure.

However, with how Rook’s height turned out, I knew it was a mistake. In the final scene with Solas, she and everyone’s Lavellan seem so fucking small compared to Solas. It bugs me endlessly because in Inquisition they are almost the fucking same height! That’s a part of how I find their romance cute (and how I find the Lavellan/Cullen romance cute) is because even the Elven inquisitor is so tall and Solas is just a skinny hobo looking dude wearing a sweater but still has so much hobo rizz and breaks the Inquisitor’s heart into pieces (and Cullen is so much bigger than Lavellan it’s so cute too).

I think Solas is about 5’11 - 6ft in Inquisition, but mofo looks at the very least 6’2 in Veilguard and swole, and the Inquisitor is about 5’7 in Inquisition, but about 5’ in Veilguard 😭😭

I guess the lore reason for the surge in Solas’ height could be that he absorbs his power from the fade again so he had his second growth spurt, but I think making the Inquisitor so short is also a conscious choice. I think they wanted to show that solas is a god hence tall and swole, but not as tall or has hair as algarnan because he isn’t as vain.

Why the Inquisitor is so fucking short I think that’s how they see the solas romanced Lavellan honestly. It reflects a loud part of the Solavellan fandom in the devs’ eyes. She’s a nobody and he’s a god. She only knew him for a year and had 3 kisses with him but wasted 10 years obsessed with him. She cares only for him but he cares only for Mythal. lol.

When my Rook saw the Inquisitor in the Cafe, and she started to talk about Solas (I don’t like how she fangirls him but I feel like that’s the devs’ depiction of Solavellan girlies but yk we fangirl solas doesn’t mean Lavellan fangirls solas in-fucking-game too), my Rook honestly don’t think it’s healthy. However I’m here trying to save the world, I’m not gonna bother talking sense into this stupid inquisitor.

Also I want the most chance to succeed against solas, I dont know if solas is good for the Inquisitor, but I know the Inquisitor is good for solas. I’m hoping if they unite she might be able to help keep Solas in check a little? If she simps for Solas this hard, I might as well put them back together. I’m not doing anyone a service trying to dissuade her. I don’t know if their relationship is healthy but they might truly deserve each other lol.

Anyway Solas is Yassified and shined in this game, but the depiction of Lavellan is truly jarring and I honestly think that’s how DAV devs see Lavellan and us Solasmancers. I’m not even sure they see Solas with that much nuance he showed even in DAI base game. Unfortunately the narrative around Solas is also such a mess and no one in the dev team seems to be able to defend him in his glorious morally grey form.

It was one of those situations where I couldn't get the idea out of my head without writing it, but I knew going in that I would probably not be able to write it in a way that satisfied me. But we try anyway, and maybe next year I'll revisit the concept to try it again. Anyway, here's Obi-Wan and Sabé being mean to each other post-RotS:

“I fought him off, I got her off the planet, I held her hand while she—” Obi-Wan took a deep breath, realizing how dangerously close he’d come to spilling another secret. “While she died. And all that time, you were safe on Naboo, not even knowing she was in danger.” “Fought him off? He’s alive, and you’re alive, and she’s dead, and you expect me to laud you for your supposed heroics?” “It was more than you did!” “And whose fault was it,” Sabé spat, “that she was ever in danger in the first place? Who brought that viper into her life, who trained it to act docile so she’d never expect the attack? She made one decision without you, and you never forgave her, and you can’t stand that I proved myself more loyal to her—to both of them.”

AAIC Gameplay Video (PS5)

This is the 57th post in the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Countdown: 24 days left until release!

Today's topic: some Gameplay footage from the PS5 version of the collection!

I talked about some of the gameplay we could see from the Switch video but there's also one for PS5 showing other scenes and aspects of the game that I'm going to talk about in this post. (Before you're confused about some of the screenshots, I took them from the Switch video but they also appear in the PS5 video and I wanted to make both posts about the same length so I included them here.)

Going back to the title selection screen for a minute, when you start the game or a case for the first time the artwork isn't unlocked yet which makes sense to avoid potential spoilers and also functions as a sort of reward for finishing the case (the DS versions did this as well). Instead you get this fancy little screen with just the episode title. I love the gold framing that carries through the entire menu design and the outline of the Prosecutor's Badge behind the episode title, it looks gorgeous!

With that we also get the new name for the first case of Investigations 2: Turnabout Trigger (Turnabout Target in the fan translation). I really like Target as a name and Trigger is pretty similar and just as snappy, it's a good choice imo. It even wonderfully foreshadows its relevance for the rest of the game, as this is the case that "triggers" the whole chain of events following it. In that sense the name is particularly meaningful and I love that.

Apparently, before you start the game for the first time you get asked directly to pick the art style that you want to use, it's not set to one of the two by default which is kinda nice. You can always change it during playing, of course. It's also useful to see an example animation directly in the menu so you know exactly what each of the two styles looks like. Very accommodating. The loading screen is great as well, the little burgundy-coloured knight piece fits perfectly! Simple and pretty!

The PS5 video shows some more of the menu structure and options screen. It's about as gorgeous as I expected it to be! The black chess pattern for the save files, the large Prosecutor's Badge outline for the options menu, the gold framing for everything... Love it! There's an Autosave file which is neat when you forget to save and several different save slots available. The options include pretty much all that you could ask for, even adjusting the Text Window Transparency or turning Text Skip on/off altogether. It's so weird to see because I'm still used to playing Ace Attorney games with no such options at all 😄 But it's definitely good to have! You can even change the Automatic Play Speed for the automatic modes. Interestingly, there's a warning that says that you won't be able to get some accolades when using Story Mode. Since you basically get the answers given to you, you don't really "achieve" anything regarding the solutions when playing so it definitely makes sense to disable that. Otherwise you could just skip through the hard parts and still get all the same achievements as the others which would make them feel cheap. But it's definitely something to keep in mind when wanting to use Story Mode to only get through one specific question you don't know the answer to without having to present every piece of evidence randomly; maybe that will already prevent you from getting some/all accolades.

Seeing the chibi sprite animations in continuous action in the gameplay highlights even more how well they work in the interactions and how amazing they look! Just Miles' visibly shocked face when stumbling upon the body in I1-1 followed by him dropping his suitcase without really noticing adds so much to that scene! And his epic side-eye to the intruder threatening him with a gun - even more badass!

It's hard to see on screenshots but the animations are wonderfully fluid and it just looks amazing. They even have some mouth movements for the longer animations when characters are talking. I also don't recall the crowd being this animated during I2-1 in the DS versions. Here, they regularly turn their heads to different directions and some even twitch a little at their spot just like you'd do when being impatient. Or maybe they also did back then and it was just more difficult to see with the pixel graphics... Anyway it looks great and makes the whole scene feel even livelier and more genuine!

I also love how funny Nicole (Tabby Lloyd) looks waving her arms around and trying to get Miles' attention. Waving frantically, standing on her tiptoes, her eager smile when holding the microphone towards him. Everything just comes across even better with all the added details! I genuinely can't express how much I love these new chibi sprites and animations. These two are already my favourite games in the series but with this the experience is gonna be incredible on a whole different level! Can't wait to play through them again myself!

On language, "Ruffles" is a fun nickname for Miles and it's completely in-character for Nicole to call him that! I think she didn't use any kind of nickname in the fan translation but I like this addition, it makes their interactions a little more unique. I don't recall if Lotta has a nickname for him, maybe she adopts this one from her mentee? Would be fun!

Somewhat sadly, I have to report that they changed Miles' iconic "I won't rest until I've inspected every suspicious-looking nook and cranny" line for the 2nd game. In I2 it seems he says "I must scour the scene and inspect anything that catches my attention" whenever you get a close-up view of an area to investigate. It will be missed but that seems to support the interpretation that Miles isn't as obsessed with nooks and crannies as some people might've painted him as 😉

As per my last post, I'm not going to do an extensive line-by-line comparison between the two translations but I do want to compare one line directly because it's one of my favourites in I2 and I remember the fan translated version by heart. It's this one here from Huang's (Wang's) speech just before he's shot at.

Fan Translation: "The Hammer of Justice shall be brought down upon all evil!"

Official Translation: "We shall crush the wicked with the righteous hammer of justice!"

Content-wise the two lines are pretty equal, "righteous" doesn't really add anything that isn't conveyed with "of justice". The official version sounds a bit more impressive and fancy whereas "all evil" and the passive voice from the fan translation makes it easier to apply the line in a completely different context. That's the reason I love this line so much: On the surface, Huang is talking about putting a stop to the criminal activities doing harm to his country but since he says this right before the shot of the fake assassin rings out, the moment a certain someone's revenge scheme kicks off, you can also see it as him announcing his and his cronies' own downfall as they are the evil (or wicked) the hammer of justice is brought down upon (or crushing).

I adore this double meaning as it's so wonderfully ironic and poetic in a way and I hoped that the official translation would keep the line similar enough so that it still applies. And it does! Yay!

I really, honestly thought I wouldn't be upset when my stepdad dies and I'm kind of bowled over by my feelings right now. I don't know how but apparently I can hate someone while also being deeply sad at the concept of their imminent death. I'm shocked that my instinct is to have sympathy for him and how so much of his life was difficult or unrealized, how he suffered as a child and never had the love or support he needed to battle all the things that turned him into such a horrible and abusive person as an adult, never introduced to the concept of self-improvement, didn't have any tools to begin with to better himself.

the abuse throughout my life and his inaction as an adult to make any effort to be a better person was entirely his fault but his default state of emotional and mental disarray was largely the fault of caregivers who didn't actually care about him and his health, or even really conceive of him as a person with his own inner life, thoughts, and workings. he clearly has always had some sort of emotional disorder and severe depression, but no one cared enough to address it even though his quality of life was abysmal. he was neglected, and wasted so much of his life in a state of violent anger.

there were rare instances where a situation and his behavior was so horrid that I would lose my instinct for self-preservation and fight back with a frightening intensity despite the consequences, and sometimes it caused him to become overwhelmed and start crying. my rage and indignation would disappear because all of a sudden id feel like I was looking at a toddler who didn't have any framework for regulating their emotions, only just barely beginning to learn how to think, feel, or act like a human. all I could feel was pity for him. as I got older one of my coping mechanisms was to regard him and his daily rages like a toddler with their first toothache having a tantrum because they can't conceive of why where and how they're hurting.

I'm both deeply sorry for the many, many ways the world failed him when it mattered most (especially because I too am cursed with genetically inherited mental illnesses, but I was able to get treatment for them), and deeply hateful of him - the person he was who made the childhood of my brother and I such a terror and caused us to be permanently separated from each other (to such an extent that my brother and i have only just started recovering our relationship, 20 years later), and the person he is now who has never done a single thing in the interest of helping us heal or contend with our trauma, almost as if none of it ever happened.

It's so fucking crazy. I don't want anything to do with him or this process of dying and being put to rest, but at the same time I'm scared that those who are dealing with this won't show him the sympathy needed to make his passing easy. we never had anything even close to a sentimental attachment throughout my life, and for the most part I spent my youth trying to avoid being in the same space as him. after everything, why do I want him to die easily?
