#gilver's retconned canonicity is very amusing to me so i think i will sprinkle a gilver jumpscare into gioia's story too#during gioia's fun little coma i think the krill try to get back to her many times but fail because two Very Dedicated devil hunters are#standing vigil over her + think the krill are after her soul for revenge or power etc etc. but case in point they are like a sad and#pathetic cat whose stuck outside a door while gioia's ⚰️. when she finally comes to‚ merle shakes her down about the whole situation and#asks about vergil when he comes up etc etc. gioia is understandably sad that vergil hasn't showed up and the krill are like 😈 because#Finally. They Have an In. so i think they have a goofy cartoon montage where they nab someone's coat/boots/etc. that people have left out +#a bunch of bandages from a shipment for eileen. i think they have a few gag shots where they try to voltron into a Human Form#and are like goddamn this sucks‼️‼️ 😭😭 because they are used to acting like one. but being bound up in a vaguely human form and forced to#be so close quarters with each other.. it is Unnatural!!! :( but they hobble their way to eileen's clinic in The Fit + the elected#Speaker of the Krill is like. hello it is i vergil *cough* im looking for a devil hunter yay high.. yadda yadda.. i am a human demon and#not a demon demon we.. i‼️‼️ prommie 👁️👁️🤞🏻#and merle is like 👁️👁️.... 🤨..🧐... 😐; because all she knows about Vergil is that he's kind of ominous. part demon.. he wears a coat..#and you know the bandages are really suspicious BUT considering the state gioia was in when their paths crossed‚ maybe this vergil guy got#really fucked up in the collapse of the labyrinth too?.. but if he's all bandaged up he shouldn't be moving around right? ah but he's part#demon so maybe he heals differently?.. well even if not‚ its pretty sweet he'd go searching for gioia in this state and ouuuwagh Merle is a#Sucker for Romance so. babygirl she falls for it she FALLS for the 500 Krill in a Trenchcoat trick. she comes into the room like ms. gioia#there's someone here to see you‼️😳🤭☺️ and lets verkrill in + gives them space because wauuw lovers united.. just like her and eileen!!#when the door shuts Gioia is like 😐... 😐... 👁️—👁️.. what the fuck is this. because it is CLEARLY not Vergil yo?? and as soon as she#asks‚ the krill explode from the bandages (and thank god because they couldn't stand that a moment longer!!) all like WAHHHH BOSSS WE#MISSED YOU WE THOUGHT YOU DIED WAHWAHWAH 😭😭😭💦💦💦‼️‼️‼️and gioia is a little disappointed it Wasn't Actually Vergil but she lets it#slide because she thought the krill would disappear with the labyrinth and disperse on the winds! so she's very touched they returned to#her even after the grounds of their contract are fulfilled. and that's the dumb goofy gilver jumpscare moment:] gioia needed more#funnystupid moments in her narrative and this is a little too on-the-nose silly for me to abandon 😆😆#sriracha.txt#nero prime#live krill reaction

TOMMYINNIT
jesus christ its such a mess
there's water EVERYWHERE
and there's probably water damage seeping under his carpet into the floor
you got a pool floatie and some water guns and were playing w them and splashing around for a while...
the pool was like 3/5 filled when the stream started and about 2/5 afterward...
you exposed his forehead, which is now the intro to a large handful of edits
you used the pool water to make instant ramen... and it sucked, no shit
had a little mermaid role-play too 💀💀 who needs the ocean when u have a kiddy pool, tommy, and a dream
ALEX QUACKITY
surprisingly pretty calm
you ate a pizza in the pool
he dropped a piece tho... wasn't tasty
you got a bunch of water toys to mess with and test out
you both get some water on his pc and he almost freaks bc he was waiting for it to all crash... it was alr
you couldn't stop splashing each other LMAO
any petty comment or roast earns you nasty sink water in the face
he got some big flamingo floatie and you laid on it for most the stream
he kept kicking you in the water
"why and how r you wearing socks rn"
"theyre not getting free footshots tf?"
FOOLISH GAMERS
so much kicking, you both have sore, bruised legs in the morning
did some karaoke as well
and recreated some scenes from the little mermaid
"testing how waterproof my phone is! you won't believe what happens!!!"
"y/n that's my phone!"
you got some water guns and got a little carried away... some of the things on his shelves were a little soaked after that 💀
somehow his pc was immune to water damage cause??
you found so many edits of you guys later just having a watergun fight n stupid shit but the edits were adorable 💀
CHARLIE SLIMECICLE
office pool karaoke goes absolutely insane
the neighbors could probably hear you bro
you overestimated how big the pool was and got a floatie that COULDNT EVEN FIT INSIDE...
he kept the giant duck floatie in his office as decor
he gave himself a kind of mohawk since the water kept his hair in place for the most part
queue a two hour mermaid role-play montage with non-copyright fantasy music in the back
"Charles Bartholomew III, I didn't expect to find you here?"
"I thought my name was Charles Bartholomew Sylvester Buhl-Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg?"
"I can't remember allat"

What do you think about the songs they used?? I couldn't believe it was possible but imo it got better as did the animation it blew my mind completely... the songs are absolute bangers
Wooo I am glad you are so into the s2 music direction!! Arcane's connection to the soundtrack is one of my fav things about it... I myself am still undecided regarding how I feel about s2. The music video style montages that are in the beginning of every episode feel a little tired to me - s1 only did it once, with Misfit Toys, and it felt like a very cool recap of what the Fireflies were doing offscreen. Now that it happens every episode, it is kind of eh. Sucker was the only one I felt blended into the story perfectly, because we haven't been to the Undercity in a while so let's catch up! A Dirty Little Animals or Welcome to the Playground style recap would have worked better for the other episodes, imo, and the songs can stay the same, just better implemented into the script and visuals. That being said, I do like the regular song scenes!! Personally, Renegade made me whoop, dance, and clap along the first 2 times I watched it (yes I rewatched it right away bc it was so fun). I love its lack of verbal communication, everyone is doing wordless communicating matching the song's beat, and it SLAPS!! Heavy is the Crown and To Ashes and Blood are very Arcane-like songs that fit the scenes they back well. I look forward to seeing act 2 songs so much!!!!

"Masks" - A few things about tonight's episode and what's ahead
~9-1-1 spoilers ahead~
Let me get this out of the way first: Eddie sucking on that ring pop... I never understood the "don't ask me the color of anything" and "babygirl" concepts more than I did then. Also: both Buck and Eddie having the same Christmas picture of them with Chris and abuela? I'm fine. The ending montage with Eddie being alone looking at his pic from Halloween with Chris... no, I'm really, I'm okay.
The BuckandEddie of it all:
It's interesting that they kept pairing Eddie up with other members of the team during calls but Eddie was all over Buck still. Like... they are partners, and they continue to be like at the pumpkin call (LUBE? PLEASE, I AM BEGGING), but Eddie was with Buck at the hospital (both for Buck and Denny) and at Buck's loft and at the station too.
Buck and Eddie are always entangled in each other's business but this season's been like a whole other level. The framing, the dialogue, everything about them is pointed as fuck and it's no coincidence (the lube, I can't get over it!!!), of that I'm sure.
This episode, which had a lot of Buck and T, had a ton of Eddie in between them which allowed us to see their dynamic and it was a sight. We had Eddie in the hospital room, by Buck's bedside, asking the doctor questions, while T was on the other side of the door, observing. Eddie was there to tend to Buck's boils and reassure him it'd be fine and even bet and shake on it to try and keep Buck from spiraling while T was just... there. Eddie was apparently distracted on his phone, sucking on a freaking ring lollipop (looking at Buck like that!!!!!) but he was actually well in tune with Buck and what he was doing and Buck protested his boyfriend's claims that he had been picking on his boils but he didn't argue with Eddie about it at all.
So yeah, Buck has a boyfriend that could fit right in, being a firefighter and getting more into the 118's business and sharing time with Buck and his BFF in the whole wide world. This episode showed in part how T didn't fit exactly right (why were they not sleeping on the bed, I'm so confused...), how Buck realized that and sent him a message that he wanted him to. And I think they will make it past the next episode, actually, because I have a feeling that if tptb are going where we all think/want them to go with Eddie, they might want to establish that on its own.
And they would also want to do what Oliver said and take it slow on the Buddie front, and I know it's been slow enough, but Oliver and Ryan have alluded to wanting the story to develop naturally and to not have them be bi/gay and into each other because of the message that could send. I have a feeling that means reaching Buddie after both have time to go through self-realizations away from each other and having Buck be in a relationship actually serves that scenario better. At least for a little while, then they can let the pining begin.
Some other things:
The thing about this show that I both adore and dislike is that I know every main is gonna be okay (there was only ever one exception to this) and they're not going to kill one of their children either. So I simply couldn't get into the mindset of feeling sad over Denny dying because I knew he wasn't going to.
I love that we got more HenRen and I wish next time Karen and Eddie share a scene, it'll be a less tragic one. I love Denny so much, the actor is so good and such a cutie, I'm glad he got to shine. It's also funny that once you get old enough in the show, you're fair game to be in harm's way. Rite of passage.
Chim was so scary and cute and great as well. I just think Kenny's so good at everything and the show sometimes failed to properly take advantage of his skills so I'm glad they're finally getting to showcase his range fully and all at once.
Peter was also having the time of his life being a carefree version of Bobby, and I'm here for it.
Josh's whole costume being Eddie's mustache. Plus Buck also having one. Ryan, the man that you are.
Maddie, once again, going for the kitty ears.
The teacher... I know her pain.
About the next episode ~more spoilers~:
They really are having an "Eddie Begins" type of emergency on an episode called "Confessions" which will focus on Eddie. I'm sure it's gonna be just fine. I'm sure nothing major will happen with my favorite character in the world, Eddie Díaz. I'm sure.

My thoughts while watching Deadpool & Wolverine
I made this review just for my entertainment and cuz I really couldn't control my excitement lol. Just a quick warning to please not take anything I say seriously :') (also i already wrote this review on letterboxd 3 days ago)
The intro alone deserves an Oscar.
THEY COVERED PETER PARKER'S FACE I AM SOBBING. DOES WADE KNOW WHO HE IS? With the 4th wall breaking power and whatnot.
The costume fitting scene with the butt slaps, slaps. Call me immature idc.
"Get your special socks on, nerds." Deadpool was adressing me on this one guys 🤣🙏🏻🙏🏻 my little geek brain was exploding with every little reference.
Cassandra Nova, JUST ONE CHANCE PLEASE I AM ON MY KNEES 🧎🏻
Casual by Chappell Roan was playing in my head when DP & W were fighting in that Honda. That was a tad bit too romantic bye.
Nicepool, I am mourning for you 24/7. You deserved so much better. Thank you for that wonderful The Proposal line. You have made my life complete.
Interesting cameos: it took me a minute to identify the Henry Cavill one. Chris Evans, what a treat! JENNIFER GARNER, MY WIFE!
A traumatized Wolverine and Deadpool vs. a hundred other Deadpools fight sequence lifted my soul. I legitimately thought I was floating away. I didn't blink. Not once.
Hugh Jackman: shirtless. My jaw=dropped (no cuz seriously). I understand the hype now. And don't ask me if I was salivating, anybody who claims to have seen me do such a horrendous act is a lying liar who lies 😐
I smelled a Deadpool hyperfixation incoming the moment i said "he's literally me". Wade Wilson is pookie.
Bad ass holy shit. Other than those Cherik edits I keep on seeing, Deadpool & Wolverine is the only reason I am finally convinced to watch x-men. Also I now wholeheartedly support the Xmen>Avengers agenda. In terms of power, at least.
Unrelated but why was Bucky not here? I miss him. And furthermore, WHERE was my beloved God of Mischief/Time/Stories!?? TVA plot kinda confused me, because isn't Loki the one whos supposed to hold all the timeline branches?
Compared to DP1&2, this was definitely toned down.
"We'll use the power of (homoerotic) friendship!" Ahh ending 😭. I can't even be mad though cuz they played it out so well. My only complaint for this movie is this: why didn't they kiss? Not even just a small smooch? But it's alright; God gave us ao3 for a reason.
I am very glad to have watched with people who aren't passive. Everyone in the audience were laughing. The whole experience was a great vibe.
The post-credit montage with Good Riddance playing in the background had me tearing up (i was biting my hand trying to stop myself from sobbing).
All in all, yes.
Ps: I've been awaiting this movie the second it was announced to be produced. Also I've never avoided show spoilers before since I suffer from chronic FOMO and anxiety when it comes to media that I like. Even though I only had to avoid spoilers for a few days here and on letterboxd, I was already experiencing withdrawal because I felt like clawing my eyes out whenever I try to stop myself from opening reviews. EITHERWAY, it was worth it 😊
PPS: Much like Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool, Hugh Jackman was born to play Wolverine.

A Far Out Look at Gaby Teller's Costumes in the Man from U.N.C.L.E.
The fashion in this movie is amazing, let's talk about specifically what Gaby is wearing and what it tells us about her character.
Tumblr media
We meet Gaby working as a mechanic in East Berlin. So obviously the this the least put-together we ever see her. I couldn't get a good picture of her jumpsuit but it seems pretty standard. The scarf in her hair is rather fashionable, hinting at what is to come.
Female representation: 10/10 It looks mostly like what a real mechanic would wear, with nothing to emphasize that she is a female mechanic (other than her nice scarf).
Practicality: 10/10 Presumably the most practical thing we see anyone wear in this movie
Tumblr media
This is one of the dresses she tries on while getting under cover. I wish we had gotten more of a montage of her different outfits but this one is pretty fun. It is a vast improvement over the one Solo had her wear first. The orange coordinates with what she wears in the climax, which is fun. And perhaps a nod to the fact that she is playing a part here as much as she will be then.
The dresses she wears going forward are all of the same style, chosen to be both 60s and modern. Watch this video by Cinema Cities for more on the choices made for the costuming. As is discussed there, the choices for Gaby are young and fresh, with bright colors. Geometric patterns, mod shape, an emphasis on legs instead of the hourglass. She stands out from the other leading lady, whose costuming is very complex - doing the most with her hair, make-up, accessories. Gaby, on the other hand, tends to wear earrings and a ring or a bracelet.
Female representation: 10/10 She looks fantastic, even for this short scene in the boutique, and is a spy being outfitted to go undercover. This scene establishes what her style is without deciding to ogle her at any point.
Practicality: 9/10 Compared to the jumpsuit, it's obviously less practical but it's pretty great in general.
Tumblr media
Now undercover in Rome, Gaby wears a white dress with an overcoat that we also see worn with the other dresses. Both are very stylish and fit the silhouette that was popular in the 60s. As far as being fully white goes, that makes sense for a scene in which she is out for a walk with her assigned fiancé, making sure that their cover is convincing (even when they are mugged). White emphasizes her status as a pawn in the game right now (as does the shape of the outfit), as well as implying a woman in need of rescue. It is effective way to trick both their marks and her fellow spies into considering her to be helpless.
Female representation: 10/10 Still fantastic, gonna break my rating system. She looks good but is not eye-candy despite her role in the film.
Practicality: 9/10 The coat doesn't seem especially warm but the ensemble is certainly practical for what she is doing.
Tumblr media
She wears this dress to the races, including a large hat, to meet with Uncle Rudi as well as Alexander Vinciguerra. It is her first job as a spy and this dress reflects that. Instead of pure white, most of it is green, a color generally associated with duplicity (like a snake). The scene includes Gaby doing quite a bit of angling to move the mission forward, which involves playing up what Solo and Kuryakin believe she is there to do as well as her own agenda, so while she isn't exactly a double agent, she is certainly deep in the plot.
Female representation: 10/10 These are all great, what can I say?
Practicality: 9/10 As above, perhaps not as useful as her jumpsuit, especially considering she does work on a car in this scene. But it certainly serves her purposes.
Tumblr media
I couldn't find a photo, but I couldn't leave out her charming pajamas. She wears these in two scenes with Illya Kuryakin, when they are hanging out in their hotel room. The first night, she insists he dance with her and the second night she appears to betray him. So the outfit itself is mostly grey, since we can't be sure what her motivation is (until later in the movie). Plus they look like great pajamas, especially for being undercover and having to share a room with a stranger.
Female representation: 10/10 Some of the best pajamas I've seen a lady wear on film, especially for a spy movie.
Practicality: 10/10 They seem to be very practical, especially for wrestling.
Tumblr media
And here is the showstopper. Gaby wears this for the climax of the film, through a lot of twists and turns. It is the same silhouette as the others, though the neckline is a bit more formal. Following the theme of the last dress, she started in white and now appears to have added a lot of cover on top of the white. The pattern is also reminiscent of camouflage. This makes sense because now is when her status as an agent all along is revealed, as she appears to betray first Kuryakin and Solo and then deceives the Vinciguerras along with her father. Again, she has minimal accessories in contrast to Victoria and she sets herself apart from everyone else in this outfit as she does so in the movie as well.
Female representation: 10/10 For a double-agent and/or damsel in distress, she is very well dressed indeed
Practicality: 9/10 It works well enough but I'm sure she wishes she had something else to wear when they are going off road through the rain.
Tumblr media
The final shot, where the team is now put all together. The show features just the gentlemen and it's great to have her be at the center (the lack of a sequel is devastating). She is back to wearing a white dress, now that her true role in the story has been revealed and she made a significant contribution to the cause in the process.
Female representation: 10/10 Again, it is fantastic, especially for the female member of the spy team
Practicality: 9/10 Same as the others, I daresay

ALRIGHT!I JUST WATCHED THE MIRACULOUS MOVIE AND I HAVE THOUGHTS! There will be spoilers ahead, so tread carefully
A list, in no particular order, just how they pop up in my head:
The animation was STUNNING! Just, props to the animators, I enjoyed the movie visually SO MUCH! From the use of colours and lighting, to the way they used all of that to upgrade the characters: it was absolute perfection. (though some of those close up shots of Hawkmoth were A Lot. But that was probably the point)
The absolute chaotic energy that both Tikki and Plagg (but mostly Tikki, cuz unfortunately. there wasn't a whole lot of Plagg, which I understand due to time, even if it is sad) is FANTASTIC! I adore Chaotic Tikki so much. She has my whole heart! That little scene of Tikki pushing Marinette's hand to Adrien's? Lovely. Tikki explaining absolutely nothing to Marinette when they first meet? Perfection. Just. Give me more Chaotic Tikki, please!
The soundtrack? WONDERFUL! I kinda knew it was a musical, I think, but I completely forgot, so when Marinette sang those first few notes, I had to catch up a lil, but DAMN I was excited! (sad we didn't get Ce Mur Qui Nous Separe (I don't know the english name oops), but it was still fun!)
On that note: Adrian having the most Disney Princess I Want song in the movie is just perfect. No other words needed. Best choice they could have made there.
ALSO on that note: Marinette's singing voice? BEAUTIFUL! It fits so well! I just couldn't help but enjoy her songs, if only for that.
BUT I didn't have to, because the music itself, without the lyrics was just so well done!
Slightly less good: The hawkmoth song was missing some flavor, in my opinion. It started out, and I was EXCITED cuz it started so HARD and then it didn'treally deliver, I think. It kind of kept in the same range and didn't really go up, ya know?
I really REALLY liked Marinette and Chloe's relationship. The way Marinette fired shots back at Chloe, and they actually seemed to be becoming more frennemies? Amazing. I wish we would've gotten more of that in the tv show, considering earlier seasons Chloe and her character developpement, but I really enjoyed it here, in the movie
I'm happy we got to see Gabriel and Adrian actually confronting each other. Both Adrian standing up to his dad (although the timing was a little off, more on that later), AND Gabriel finding out his son is Chat Noir and the resulting Crisis. At least there was some emotional pay off there! (looking at you, season 5 finale)
NOW on the timing thing: There just wasn't enough time. I understand that they wanted to do the superhero origin story for people who aren't familiar with the show but do go to see the movie, but I feel like they just didn't have the necessary time to create the emotional tension needed for the end scene to actually hit as hard as it could have. We got to see a hint of Adrian and Gabriel's relationship, and what was shown was great! But if we had gotten a little more of that perspective and tension, it would've felt better to watch Adrian stand up to Gabe and his parenting skills. And consequently, enjoyed more of the end scene with them figuring out each others identities. Genuinely, I was happy we got at least some pay off there, but it felt too easy. (which again, makes sense due to the limited time, but I feel like they should have made choice: either the Big End Fight with Hawkmoth, OR the Origin Story. And since they did kind of set up a possible sequel, I feel like the choice could have been made)
With the feeling of too easy: I had the same feeling of Marinette and her finding confidence in herself and Ladybug AT THE END! The sudden change during the montage, I liked and felt like it made sens, since we then, during the big battle, get Marinette's insecurities over only being confident when she's Ladybug and all that. That is wonderful and so in line with the core of who Marinette is as character, no matter what version of her we get, that I love it very much. I would have enjoyed a liiiiitle more time with the Angst, but it's allright!
MOSTLY CUZ: that scene where she's dragging Cat Noir's unconcious body onto the debris of the Eiffel Tower, and she goes 'Don't. Touch. Him.' through tears and with a broken voice? AMAZING! When I tell you I Went FERAL! My children! absolutely STUNNING
The actual fight of the end battle? Marinette surrounded by flame and a Paris that is falling apart? Ladybug in Hell, essentially? GORGEOUS! Cat Noir running up the Eiffel Tower to fight Hawkmoth? Stunning! The Eiffel Tower slowly collapsing, as Ladybug watches and cannot Do Anything to stop it? HEARTWRENCHING!
Marinette revealing herself to Adrian at the ball? AMAZING SCENE! (although i laughed and had to utter 'Real Subtle, Marinette' when I saw the ladybug wings on the back of the dress, which was, againg, stunning). The way the scene was framed like the rejection scene? WONDERFUL!
The glitter on Chat Noir's mask? I loved it! Such a fun little detail we don't get in the show!
Did not like the Plagg farting scene. Just. No thanks. It's cheap comedy and that runtime could have been spent better, with a better characterisation of PLagg and his relationship with Adrian. But whatever, it's fine.
THE LADYNOIR CONTENT AND BICKERING! JUST FANTASTIC! ladynoir stans got FED this movie, and I am HERE FOR IT!
So yeah, that was an incomplete list of my thoughts on the movie! Overall I really enjoyed it! I really liked this version of the characters and their relationships. They feel a lot more genuine and real in comparison to the tv show, in some ways. I had so much fun watching it, and will probably go a second time, to see how it'll feel like on a rewatch. And just to enjoy the vibes. I do hope we get a sequel, because I am Curious. And would love more Natalie content.

Having just read Border Stone, I am sincerely wondering what Team Snakemouth's reaction will be once Mothivia randomly shows up with Hollow.
We originally planned to illustrate this, but we didn't get around to it. This depends on whether or not they show up to potentially important briefings on other team's missions, because the first opportunity that they'll have to see The Hollow Knight is when Team Mothiva turns up to report on that mission, but after that they've got something of a 50/50 of encountering them being dragged around more or less as encountered in Hallownest or encountering them as Ominous Bodyguard Number 2.
As by the time they've returned to Bugaria, they've also achieved what they actually came there to do (assess the state of the fallen kingdom of Hallownest now that the plague has died down), they do have more things to present than just THK, but there's a solid chance that they'll just kind of... leave it to idle in the background, while talking about everything else. Watching. Waiting.
The original plan, of course, was to try and leave it in Hallownest. This, unfortunately, failed around the point when Zasp realized just how poorly it was holding together, along with the fact that they couldn't actually locate anyone with medical training for whatever Hollow was in the area (or anyone speaking a language they shared). Since Hollow was still following them around whenever guided, the plan became "bring it back to Bugaria, get it medical attention, shove it off on whoever we can manage to get it to stick with".
The final step of this plan failed. Mothiva, as someone with a very distinct public image to upkeep, was then stuck with the task of prettying it up enough to fit with the brand rather than risking backlash from either her fans or her managers from having some raggedy-looking maybe-beetle following her around, since her association with Zasp already sort of has her on thin ice with her brand.
There is a "trying to make it look less like it's in the process of actively dying" montage. It involves usage of power tools to clean up the crack on its shell well enough to seal and liberal amounts of beetle shell ointment, and THK is wholly uncertain how to feel about the whole thing. It doesn't do a whole lot for making it look less... horribly intimidating, but it's slightly more marketable in that it don't look like it's going to keel over and die at any second now.
The first reaction is generally going to be "by Venus's name, where the hell did you find that thing?!" regardless of first encounter, though. The industrial sander doesn't change that it's a ridiculously massive maybe-not-even-a-bug with a shell black enough to absorb all light and we don't think Mothiva will be doing an even remotely adequate amount of explanation on "what this thing is" or "how we found it".

Title: Crazy Garage Shenanigans
Tej Parker had never been one to back down from a challenge, but this? This was next level.
"Tej, darling, do you ever wonder how many sandwiches you've consumed in your life?" you asked casually, flipping upside down from the hood of one of his many custom cars. "Like, if we stacked them, could we build a ladder to space? Because I’m just saying… sandwiches are totally underrated when it comes to their architectural potential."
Tej squinted at you from under the car he was working on. “You got a reason for interrupting me with that madness?”
You dropped to the floor in one graceful, completely unnecessary flip, landing right beside him. “Madness? Oh no, no, no. This is science, baby. Speaking of which,” you added, leaning over to peek at the mess of wires and gadgets, “how’s our little project? Is it gonna make the car fly? Because if it’s not flying, Tej, we might as well be cavemen. You’re not a caveman, are you?”
Tej pulled himself out from under the car and sat up, wiping his hands with a rag. He shot you a look—the kind of look that said, “What did I ever do to deserve this?” But underneath that exasperation was a tiny smirk. He wouldn’t admit it out loud, but he liked your random ramblings.
“I told you, it’s gonna give us faster acceleration, not turn it into the Batmobile,” he said, giving you a side-eye. “Why do you always gotta ask the craziest stuff?”
“Because, Tej, life’s a party. And if we aren’t trying to create rocket-powered cars or figuring out how to fit 300 tacos into one suitcase, are we really living?” You threw yourself dramatically into one of the swivel chairs and spun around in circles like you were in a low-budget action movie montage. “We need to push boundaries. You, me, and maybe a couple of chimichangas. Ooh, we should make those next!”
Tej couldn't help but laugh, shaking his head. “You’re insane, you know that?”
“I prefer the term ‘creatively unhinged,’” you corrected, grinning. “And don’t pretend you don’t love it. You totally love it. Admit it. I’m the best thing that’s ever happened to your garage, second only to that time you built a drone that delivered pizza.”
“Fine, you’re the third best thing,” he teased back, giving your chair a playful push as he walked past.
You gasped in mock offense. “The disrespect. Guess you don’t want me to help you test this bad boy on the track, huh?”
Tej stopped, turned, and crossed his arms. “Oh, now you wanna help? What happened to making a sandwich ladder to space?”
“Oh, I can multitask,” you winked. “But you’re gonna have to convince me.”
“Convince you?” he echoed, raising an eyebrow. “What, you want me to beg?”
“Begging wouldn’t hurt,” you said, tapping your chin. “But, let’s keep it simple. You let me drive, and I’ll save the sandwich construction for another day. Deal?”
Tej sighed, but that smile broke through again. “Deal. But if you wreck it, you’re paying for the damages.”
You grinned, already hopping into the driver’s seat. “Buddy, if I wreck this, we’ll have bigger problems—like how I’ll explain to Dom that his tech guy let me behind the wheel.”
Tej got in next to you, shaking his head, but the laughter in his eyes said it all: you were chaos, but you were his kind of chaos.

Zhu Yilong as Li Xiang in The Great War | 志愿军:雄兵出击 (2023)
And that's it folks - he does not appear in the movie itself, just in a post-credits scene that is a montage of all the scenes he was supposed to be in, I guess. So what you see above is everything of him in the movie. Truly. I watched it so that you don't have to.
Absolutely do not recommend the movie, and defnitely not if you just want to see Longge, so here it is, the collection of Li Xiang Best of (which is also his ALL).
Rant under the cut.
This director made The Battle at Lake Changjin| 长津湖 (2021) before and it was much more tolerable on the ✨Message✨ it also made some attempt to show the human side of the war.
Here I think someone got to the script because from what I could discern, the story was meant to be centered on the family - Li Moyan, the father and the commander of the unit that the movie follows, Li Xiang, his son who is a soldier and Li Xiao, the daughter that ends up in the diplomatic party, going to the US to argue the Chinese cause. The traces are there, but they do not come together at all.
The characters of Li Xiang and Li Xiao are absolutely absent from the narrative, they only exist in Li Moyan's words when he tells his comrades that he has a daughter and an estranged son. Li Xiao appears at the very end, for two scenes together and doesn't bring much to the story aside from crying about the words of the Chinese representative and explaining to Madame Tang (Zhang Ziyi!!!) that she has a father she loves and who has the other key to her home. Li Xiang appears only in the post credits scene that I screenshoted above.
What is left in the movie? Well. Death, explosions, dramatic singing of the national anthem, Good Leader Mao crying for his people and pretty much everything that comes to your mind when you think 'heavy-handed national propaganda'. A lot of emphasis is put on the character's ages - you are meant to realise that the soldiers are young, mostly between 18 and 30. Mao's son who tragically dies is 28, a very important thing for everyone around.
That's why I believe Longge was ultimately dropped from the movie - he is too old, simply. Doesn't fit the image the movie wants to sell but they couldn't exactly cut him out entirely, since he was one of the promoting factors.
So they slapped the montage at the very end, right after the first credits, to appease people who watched it only for Longge, that is my theory.
I have a very high tolerance for propaganda, but this movie was too much even for me. Don't recommend, even to support Longge.

My Not So Short Ramble About The Bear Season 3
(Spoilers: Ehhh, I did not really like it... I do like this frame though:)
Tumblr media
I did kinda not so feel this season of The Bear, but let‘s start with what I liked: The Tina-centric episode was one of the best in my opinion (and directed by Ayo? Let's go, queen). She‘s a lovely character and to see her journey and how she got to The Beef and Mikey was very heartfelt and warming. It was also very nice to see Ebra happy again after he felt so out of place last season. And it‘s always good to have Olivia Coleman on my screen.
There were some fun moments. The Fak brothers are funny (to an extent), Richie and his daughter are super sweet, so there’s that. I like when all these characters clash, when things go wrong, when they scream at each other, when tensions get high and they need to achieve something. A show like this needs this energy.
Unfortunately, there is barely any engery this season.
This season was very slow. Look, I don‘t mind focusing on specific characters and getting to know them, but a whole episode dedicated to Sugar and her mom in the hospital because the baby‘s coming just for it to… not really go anywhere? Yes, some dialogue was really good but we don't leave the hospital room for 90% of the episode and they're just not strong enough to carry that. There wasn't even a big reunion, not even Carmy calling Sugar back, you know since she left pregnant and just didn‘t come back?? She could be in labor in Home Depot isle three, for all you know! Yeah, he‘s stressed and ill and all but that‘s his sister! Did he ever call her? Did he go see his niece? Why the fuck is it Sydney that cooks them food and brings it over and he isn‘t even shown talking to his sister once? (I mean, I know, Sdyney‘s great and she and Natalie are tight so that was sweet of her, but you get my point.) It just makes me so mad. There should have been a breakdown at the restaurant when they noticed! Hello, everybody loves Sugar! You'd be fucked without her. And y'all send her to get paper towels and don't give a flying fuck that she doesn't come back? This could have been a moment of peace between Richie and Carmy. The whole family should've been at the hospital. Instead it's... two Fak brothers. And even if they missed it, why couldn't Carmy go along with Syd to make up for his mistake? His love language is cooking and he and Sugar seemed so close the last two seasons so why never mention their relationship again?
While I mentioned I liked seeing Ebra happy again, I wish we'd gotten more of his character. In the beginning, it felt like they'd just sidelined him because he doesn't fit the high cuisine or whatever. Then he gets some support by some other guys but and yeah, he is happy and I love that, but it feels like the creators just wanted to get him out of the way even though the window business makes the only money in this hell house? He's fucking important to this success so treat him like it!
Montages and aesthetic shots of food cannot fill all the season (well, apparently, they can) because that‘s not storytelling. Yes, I want to see the food, but I don‘t need ten flashbacks and montages and slowmotion shots per episode. Speaking of flashbacks — what is it with Claire? Why are we doing this? Why would Carmy pine after her for months? She is so… bland, watered down — almost like a canvas for people who fancy JAW/Carmy to imagine themselves as Claire. It feels fanfiction-y, right? "You‘re a nurse and went to high school with Carmy but loose track of one another…" The Bear is capable of interesting, real-feeling characters so it‘s sad to see the screentime get wasted for her when all I want to see is what's happening in the restaurant.
What I mean is, this season was slow. Way too slow. There was so much time wasted on nothing that could‘ve been cut. Like the Natalie-goes-into-labor-episode and most of the first one as well, to be honest. The points that were supposed to come across to the viewer — how Carmy becomes this stressed out, shouting, cold chef high on perfectionism fighting with past desicions and getting a star for the restaurant, how that affected the whole staff, how it fucks up Sydney because he becomes so much like his former chef — they could have been better wrapped, a bit quicker paced. Have the funeral of the Ever more mid-season, have the surprise review consequences NOW and not just as flashes so I have to pause the episode to read anything/leave it hanging on a cliffhanger, have Syd fucking explode for once and tell Carmy how it is, how he is turning into the asshole he hates. Make it extra bad by having a conversation between the two earlier in the season on how bad it was for Carmy and not her "learning" about his past at the funeral dinner. Make her leave. Make him regret what he's done, make him feel what he's missing.
Really, I was yelling at Syd to leave through the last few episodes. Leave, get out, work at a different restaurant, find a new environment. Carmy doesn‘t need to have wallow in his feelings for minute on end on how he should apologize to Claire, he should apologize to Sydney and Richie and everyone he‘s stressing out so much. If Sydney only leaves by the end of season 4 I‘ll riot.
I don't even want to say I'm not hoping for anything to happen between Syd and Carmy, like I actively need them to get away from each other as of right now. But! I liked the call-back to the "best meal Sydney's ever had" and that that was the one time Carmy decided to go his own way and not follow the instructions of his chef. Which is why the theme of being haunted could've fit so well with them! It's just a joke in the beginning by the Faks, but then Sydney leaves The Bear and Carmy feels actually haunted by her. Doesn't even have to be romantic. The potential was there.
Some other smaller things: 1. The timing was so hard to tell. They should've worked with different lightnings or make it less confusing, but as it is now, I was constantly questioning myself when this took place. 2. I can't really complain about the casting of so many actual chefs because I just don't recognize them (oops, sorry) but while I liked to see the different dynamics between them and Carmy at least, it feels so rude to all the POC characters in the kitchen working their asses off and not getting any plot lines. 3. Again, again nothing really happens. I said it up there somewhere, if you'd cut the montages and flashbacks and filler stuff, how much plot are you really left with? When I think of all the important points that happened, they should not take ten episodes to show.
This could've been beautiful. But now it's just the bad kind of messy.

Jamil's dream wasn't as bad I thought. Which doesn't say much since the bar is literally in Hell at this point, but at least it's something...I guess. He doesn't pull a Sultan Jafar and just beat Kalim up. But it's still pretty dumb.
The dream is a complete role reversal. Kalim is the poor servant, who is waiting on him hand and foot, while Jamil is the rich kid. Jamil has his own school built honouring Jafar, where he's the school council president. After Jamil orders the dream!Kalim to make them a feast, things start to fall apart. Kalim and Jamil fist fight...for some reason. Jamil overblots and has a random villain monologue. He's defeated. Move on to the next dream. Where do I start?
This dream doesn't fit Jamil at all. Jamil isn't after power like Jafar. All he wants is to be free of the Asim's grasp and travel the world. What about that would fit...this? While I know the point is that Malleus doesn't understand what will actually make these guys happy, something like this would make Jamil snap out of it faster. He should know that something doesn't feel right. He would break out to join the others.
Plus, Jamil seems a little OOC as well. He seems much more Jafar-like, being pompous and overly indulgent asshole. Yes, those traits were there the whole time. That's why he wanted to have a feast and have everyone praise him was enough evidence of that. But my reading of that was that Jamil was so beaten down by a family of rich assholes that he wanted to kick back for once and be served for once, not that he has a secretly wants to be sultan himself and for everyone to worship him like a god! This is so off base that I genuinely wonder if Yana know her own characters, if Vil acting like a spoiled diva in the last one wasn't obvious enough of that.
What's with Malleus gifting Jamil a school in it? He's super smart and studious, but school isn't the be all end all of his existence, so it seems like a random conclusion for him to come to. Same goes for Kalim, if not more so.
Why do Kalim and Jamil randomly fist fight? Kalim punching Jamil should've happened at the end of Book 4. If this happened then, it would be a hundred percent justified. Jamil backstabbed Kalim and mind controlled him. Hell, I would even say that would be good writing, since it would be a fantastic set up and pay off. But now? It just seems random and like Kalim's resentful for that back then, which is in turn is OOC.
Mentioned this on my server and to one of my online friends, but why the hell is this arc so fucking long? This arc has been going on forever!
Why add all of these pointless dream sequences and flashbacks!? She could've made them a quick montage. Or, better yet, not added them at all and came up with something else. Especially since a lot of these are completely OOC, make no sense or both.
One of my mutuals mentioned that they thought that Lilia would be put to sleep so Malleus could keep him close and block everyone else out with thorns, so we have to work with everyone to get through them like Philip to stop him. Why couldn't it just be that? It would make the writing tighter and get to the fucking point much faster. More importantly, make much more sense. Instead we get a bunch of overlyindulgent trippy dream sequences that only pad things out. What a waste.
At least I give the latest update this. I think Jamil's outfit is FAR better than his overblot design. It makes him look regal, seeming like a younger Jafar, and is much simpler instead of being an overdesigned mess. I'll end up using this one in my fic instead.

What do you think of the Saiyan's overall redesign in the DBS Broly Movie? Personally, I didn't like how they really stuck to that, "All Saiyans have black hair," thing. I thought the original King Vegeta and Saiyans surrounding him looked more interesting in DBZ. They even had a blonde guy when KV blew up those planets lmao (if only they knew)
I know the guy your talking about. He's from the flashback montage right before Vegeta dies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, his pal over there is rocking an SSJ4 Gingergeta look too, so this shot is pretty wild for a bunch of reasons. And then King Vegeta raises his hand and blows up three planets, including the one they're standing on, so I don't know what to make of that.
Anyway, as far as the hair color goes, the black-hair-only rule came from the scene where Vegeta disputes Trunks' claim to be a Saiyan, so the rule didn't exist back when DBZ Episode 86 was made. We can still interpret this in a few ways.
Vegeta was just stone cold wrong. I say this a lot, but it bears repeating: Most of what we know about Saiyans comes from Vegeta, but he's not an infallible source. There's bound to be things he doesn't know or couldn't know, and he probably still clings to a lot of propaganda fed to him in his youth.
The flashbacks aren't meant to be taken literally, and this could just be a coloring error in an otherwise consistent portrayal of the Saiyans.
The blonde guy could be a half-Saiyan like Trunks.
The blonde guy just likes to bleache his hair.
He's got some kind of medical condition that discolors his hair
Nonetheless, once Toriyama laid down the black hair rule, it appears to have been followed pretty closely, except...
Tumblr media
Nion, one of the scientists in the nursery in DBS: Broly, has dark blue hair. Maybe indigo? You get the idea. I don't think this is a trick of the light, either, since King Vegeta's in this scene, and his hair looks black. Nion clearly has a different hair color.
At first, I wondered if this meant she wasn't a Saiyan. Nion doesn't appear to have a tail either, and her uniform is too form-fitting for her to stuff it inside her clothes like her robed co-workers. But by all accounts, she seems to be a Saiyan character, and it makes sense. She speaks rather hopefully of Broly possibly becoming the next Super Saiyan, and one of Frieza's bootlicks wouldn't be nearly so enthusiastic when speaking of such a thing.
So what's up with Nion? Well, it's probably the same story as that blonde guy from DBZ 86. She colors her hair, or she's got some alien ancestry, or maybe there's more to Saiyans than Vegeta knew. My guess is that the movie was trying to show that there's a particular fashion among Saiyan scientists. The men in this scene all had very short, more "conventional haircuts". They also wore long choir robes. Nion has a different look, but there's like nine other women in the nursery with the exact same style, suggesting that they all wear that look to signify their profession. So maybe the blue hair is part of that, or Nion picked it up while she was at space college or something.
So from a hair standpoint, I think they just kind of ended up back where they started. Pure-blooded Saiyans may all start with black hair, and most of them stay that way, but a few Saiyans seem to develop an interest in coloring their hair for cosmetic reasons.
No, the main change I noticed from the Broly movie was that most of the Saiyan uniforms we saw were black and/or blue, which is kind of a shame, because I liked the various colors used in DBZ. Bardock had his green and black armor, Fasha/Seripa had pink, Towa had Carolina Tarheel blue, and so on. The movie also did Paragus dirty, because Paragus looked like the fuckin' man in Movie 8, and his DBS looks were all a downgrade.
Tumblr media
At least Gine got pink wristbands and sort of a dark teal outfit. That might be closer to green, but I can't tell. Anyway, I get it, they're uniforms. The whole point is that everyone looks the same. Still, I liked the idea that someone could requisition a hot pink and lime green armor and it was totally cool.
Ultimately, flashback scenes like these don't carry that much weight, since they're always susceptible to another retcon. One of these years, they'll do some "Andor"-style series about the Saiyan/Tuffle War, and we'll see a whole other depiction of Saiyans that will turn all of this on its ear, and I'll probably be coming up with some other rationale to make it all fit together.
Mostly, I'm just glad we got a peek into Saiyan culture beyond the front-line warriors in the DBZ flashbacks. Nion and her colleagues raise more questions than answers, but I'm still grateful for the questions. I think fans have postulated characters like Beetz and Gine for a long time, and the movie confirms that there was definitely more to Saiyan society than fighting.

I’ve been obsessed, obsessed, obsessed with Raisha for a while now. I know you’ve said little things about her in the past and i want to know what’s up with her/Gerathon if you’d be willing to talk about it.
I really like Raisha as a character, too! We know so little about her, but in my opinion, she's one of the most fascinating characters in the series. Unfortunately, she meets a sad end in A Revised History of Erdas.
All we know about Raisha post-infection is that she was present at the final battle in The Burning Tide, still under Zerif's control and in pretty bad shape. She vanishes off the grid after that, never mentioned again, not even in the concluding montage of Great Beast summoners reuniting with their fallen spirit animals. My retelling offers some closure, but not the good kind.
In my version of events, Raisha is flanking Zerif when he emerges from the ship with his Great Beasts. Zerif, in an act of cruel irony, saw fit to keep Raisha by his side even in her mindless, infected state. Shane, up in the archers' keep with Abeke, hardly recognizes the girl who helped steal Halawir months earlier. Later, she reappears to restrain Abeke when Zerif brings the defeated Redcloak forces to the Wyrm. When the Wyrm is killed and the parasites lose their power, though, Raisha collapses to the ground and doesn't get back up. The Wyrm had pushed her finite body to an extent that it couldn't recover from. Many people and animals in Zerif's army are the same; their possession eventually killed them. The Wyrm was a child playing with toys, the mechanics of which it couldn't possibly understand. Thankfully for it, its parasites could go on controlling a body in the event of an untimely death. Indeed, Stead raises the possibility that Raisha had been dead for some time, and the parasite was only animating a corpse.
Like I've said before, I didn't do this out of dislike for Raisha or anything like that. She was ultimately another victim of Zerif -- a young, lonely, impressionable girl he took advantage of -- and didn't deserve anything that happened to her. I'll always support AUs where she is alive and well. In my eyes, though, her story was always meant to end in tragedy. By the time she realized her mistake and reached for the light, it was too late.
Gerathon, after reemerging in Southern Zhong and feeling the loss of her human partner, disappeared into the brush and is currently at large. She is only an adolescent cobra at the moment, hardly a threat... but the Great Beasts are growing, and Gerathon's time will inevitably come again. (I like the idea of her becoming a maneater as she slowly regains her former size and power, terrorizing the locals and gaining a place in their legends.) Who knows how she feels about losing Raisha. I expect, under the excruciating pain that may one day drive her to madness, there is a sweet sense of relief.
#sorry this took so long to get out!#i've said it before but i do not think gerathon would take kindly to being a spirit animal and absolutely nothing can change my mind#if raisha hadn't died of her own accord gerathon would have ended up killing her to escape the confines of their bond#i've talked before ab how interesting it would be to delve deeper into how the great beasts feel ab being spirit animals#no longer independent‚ now bound#even if they love the children they are bonded with‚ do they ever wish to be free? would they leave them behind if given the chance?#i can sort of accomplish this with gerathon‚ who actually loses her human partner#although her feelings ab it are not as complex as the others' might be bc there is simply no way she would accept being tethered to a human#gerathon who once controlled a whole army of people like they were ants would never‚ and i mean never‚ endure a partnership with one#the others all might. even kovo and halawir might come to love theirs. but not her. never her#fun fact: long before i envisioned path of the heroes‚ i had a very different concept of a fourth arc that had raisha as the villain#(truthfully it was gerathon manipulating her)#this was a next gen arc so the four heroes and all the great beast summoners were adults. their kids were the protags#in fact raisha's own daughter was one of these protags#crazy times lol#maybe at some point i'll share those very old plans. it's all hilarious and nonsensical bc i was 13 but#it paved the way for path of the heroes and for that i am eternally grateful. my sacred texts#text#asks#a revised history of erdas#spirit animals#spirit animals books#spirit animals series#raisha#gerathon#zerif#the wyrm#abeke#shane#stead

One day or Day one, am I right?
Okay, so god knows the amount of ideas I have for a few of the fandoms I hold close to my heart. The main one as of right now being Teen Wolf.
So here's a list of ideas I had written down or just in my mind for a long while :P (BTWs, a few of these I honestly don't remember my thought process for them, even tho I included a bit of context for myself in my notes)
Gone, Gone, Gone - Phillip Phillips /// Childhood Friends/Sweethearts AU [Sterek Animatic]
a lil montage thing of them growing up together, or something
Friends on the Other Side (Mash Up) - Thomas Sanders & Friends /// Kind of a mafia vibe w/ Spark Stiles [Pack Animatic]
- Stiles = Dr. Facilier - Isaac = Oogie Boogie Man - Others (couldn't think of which characters would fit with which disney villain)
Backstage Romance /// [Sterek Animatic]
- Some sort of ceremony, maybe? With how sexual the music video or whatever is, the idea is lowkey a mating ceremony...in dance??? Like obviously not sex, it was idea of the ceremony was going to be more them exchanging the mating bites - Derek (the male role/voice) goes first in kind of seducing (dancing around) Stiles, then Stiles (the lady) would have his turn, and then both of them kind of seducing each other, aka dance together and are abt to bite each other - Interrupted by hunters??? Or separated by their respective family / friends - Flashback to b4 b4 the ceremony or when they were kids @ the "some of them want to use you," which in the flashback it'd be both their parents warning them about, well, people wanting to use them because they're a spark and a werewolf >>> then back to the ceremony - But it is a whole ass dance like in the BGT video performance
Lover boy X Killer Queen /// I had three separate, but ultimately similar ideas for this one [Sterek Animatic (more tiktok formish)]
1. >>> Stiles talking abt Derek (Loverboy) / Derek talking abt Stiles (Killer Queen) <<< These are interchangable, like the songs could be either one of them 2. Derek describing himself to Eli / Stiles describing Derek to Eli 3. How Sterek acts like "now," (ignoring the movie) they're married and openly show that they love each other / How they used to act before, so like maybe Season 1-2 ish (?)
Inspo from reading title "Wolves who cried boy" - 3 ideas that kind of combined and became a 5 + 1 idea [Sterek Fic]
1. Stiles isn't known by the pack yet. So when the 5 pups (I think I included Jackson???) spot him in different areas around Beacon Hills, they all go to Derek or call him to come over. But Stiles is always gone by then, including his scent. 2. A *Stiles and Derek are around the same age,* where Derek keeps finding Stiles in the forest/preserve and his family never believes him or something 3. The '5' being idea #1 and idea #2 as like a flashback for the 5th one, and the '+1' being when Stiles finally showing up to the pack house by himself or w/ Derek
Mandalorian!Derek and Jedi!Stiles /// Star Wars AU [Sterek]
Only notes I have for this idea is, use "We're (a little bit) in love" as reference(-ish). Which I'm assuming is a fic I read, but I read so many damn fics I don't know which one this is. And my second note, Pack = Clan
"So what if he did? it's none of your dang business kid. My mom, there's no-one else quite like my mom" /// Art edit/animatic idea [Stilinski, Hale or Sterek Family (centric-ish)]
1. Eli -> Stiles -> Claudia 2. Eli -> Stiles -> John/Noah 3. Eli -> Derek -> Talia Thought process: - Claudia had a past w/causing trouble or slightly disrespecting the officers if she was questioned - The Sheriff and Stiles are both badasses in finding evidence/proving ppl wrong - The Hales would obviously be pissed at being chained/tied down and most likely bamfs when getting out of it :D

iirc glee had a billy joel episode, or at least did several covers of his songs. do you have an opinion on that?
I've seen the episode, which is called Movin' Out, at least four times. I've also seen all the covers in other episodes. This took forever to answer because I decided to go back and watch some of these to refresh to my memory.
I appreciate that they did it. It was nice to see him get the recognition. Mr. Schue using him for the lesson was a fun idea, I wish the writers knew a bit more about him though because there were missed opportunities! I could have done it better. My overall opinion is that's underwhelming. I want it to be better than it is.
The covers themselves are......... mostly not good. The first time they did Piano Man, when Mr. Schue sang it with Neil Patrick Harris, it was diegetic, the two of them singing it together in a bar, so they were able to do the cut by just having them not finish the song, which was really good. I thought that one worked pretty well!
Puck's Only the Good Die Young is... fine. It's not great but it's fine. It's fit in the episode is a little tenuous but whatever. I enjoy the line about only doing songs by Jewish artists that precedes the cover. There are worse covers in that episode.
The Warblers doing Uptown Girl was good! It would have been even better if Glee could resist the urge to Glee it up so much and it sounded more like a boys' a cappella group would in real life but it was really close to that and it was fun.
New York State of Mind is a mixed bag. They did really well in some parts and not as well in others. Marley held her own but Rachel definitely did better. I wonder if Rachel's at least was an homage to Barbra Streissand's cover, but it's not too on-the-nose obvious if it is. Rachel singing New York State of Mind as a new student at NYADA is hilarious on a Watsonian level, like it would be such a cliche, but I think on a Doylist level it's an excellent choice. You know, it's a jukebox musical, she's excited to be in New York where she's been desperately working to get for the whole show up to this point. It's a good choice. I'm not convinced Lea Michelle and Melissa Benoist couldn't have hit some of the notes that get sidestepped, I think it was just the arrangement, but what do I know.
The Longest Time was okay. I think it would have been better if, again, it didn't Glee it up so much, but it's a much bigger problem here than with Uptown Girl. It's an "unplugged" song during a power outage and I wish they let it sound more like that! Let it be more acoustic and rougher sounding! It's supposed to be like that anyway. Good use of that song but just a failure to execute. I also can't stand the Glee style of dancing, especially by that point in the show, and I feel like it doesn't fit which makes me like it even less, but I'm trying to judge this more on the use of the songs and not inherent Glee problems.
My biggest complaint about the covers in Movin' Out is the cuts are just so bad. I know they had to cut them for time but they could have done it better! It's really jarring! The actual singing is also pretty meh. I like some more than others but I don't love any of them.
I have a certain fondness for Ryder's An Innocent Man. It's musically just okay but I enjoy how it's used. I don't think he really gets those notes though. 75-year-old Billy Joel is like "pray for me to hit the high note" and then kills it every time. That kid could do better.
I hate the use of Honesty, it's so weird, and I also don't like the cover. Sorry Artie.
I don't love the cover of Just the Way You Are but also it's Just the Way You Are. What can I say. Not the worst use of it in the plot though.
I hate the cover of Movin' Out. I don't really enjoy the montage thing either but it's fine I guess. It's weird because I would think Darren Criss would be able to do Billy Joel but I don't like any of his parts in this episode.
Jake singing My Life while also asking Marley for a second chance is kind of funny. I also remember that one being meh to fine.
It's hilarious that Blaine says "sing along if you know it" about Piano Man to a crowd in a piano restaurant in New York City. That place probably needs a "no Piano Man" sign like the sign in the guitar store in Wayne's World. Also as a side note if they could have gotten a Billy Joel cameo that would be the scene to do it; he should have been like "no not this song again" and stormed out. OR they could have had him correct Blaine because the sheet music is wrong (in real life that was with Just the Way You Are but creative license is allowed).
Ending on You May Be Right was a solid choice but I hate their version of it. It's terrible.
The choice of songs is... fine? I could probably make a better track list for a Billy Joel episode if you gave me some time, but they picked a decent mix of hits I guess, especially considering which ones they'd already used (of course they repeated Piano Man. of course.) I would like to see Blaine try Summer, Highland Falls, I think. Ultimately I think the biggest problem with Movin' Out is that Glee had declined so much by season 5. A Billy Joel episode in season 2 or 3 would probably have been better. There was just more care put into the music back then.
By the way, Billy Joel gave permission for Glee to use his songs but said he'd never seen the show because he only watches the History Channel.
