Also like.
If Junko were actually a player in a Danganronpa murder game.
She would function a lot like Kokichi is functioning. With more charisma, of course, because that is Junko's highest Stat, but like.
Lies. Misdirects. Knows things. Is bored and wants the game to be more entertaining. Thanks Monokuma when something's cool. You're never sure what side she's on.
Functionally. Junko would play the same way.
Just, you know. With more Junko. Like, 100% more Junko.

izuru is like- simultaneously a super genius and a child idk how else to describe it. like he has every talent known to man and knows so many things, but he hasn't actually EXPERIENCED most of it. (i keep thinking about him getting excited when he didn't know he was on a boat, and then promptly getting bored).

this is a mix of me figuring out how i wanna draw everyone + just needing a reference because i’m bad at drawing faces consistently sometimes lol
i’m gonna do everyone from sdr2 at some point as well, and probably v3 when i finish playing it :3
bonus version with gender/sexuality headcanons + some extra notes under the cut :p
so i have junko down as straight/cishet because i genuinely didn’t know what to do with her and she’s like kinda canonically homophobic [/hj?] but then my friend said e sees her as a bisexual who thinks being gay is a choice because she chooses to pursue men and i’ve decided that’s what the straight flag there means now
honestly zero solid gender headcanons for chihiro. something girl adjacent for sure but mostly i think she’s just vibing and doesn’t care what people call her as long as they aren’t asses about it [also uses she/he/they]
fun little design note regarding toko, i choose the pupil/iris shape based on Vibes but she’s the only one with a mix of circle/square. if i’d drawn syo, she’d have the opposite [square iris, circular pupils]
i like to think leon doesn’t actually have the right nose bridge shape for those piercings between his eyes but he did have rhinestones and super glue and the ability to make very poor decisions
kiyotaka’s earring is in the gay ear 👍 i think. i googled it and i’m pretty sure it’s the left one. pre-despair mondo jokingly dared him to get a piercing or they wouldn’t be bros anymore and kiyotaka took it seriously even after mondo said he was joking. during the killing game taka just has no fucking clue why he has an earring and thinks monokuma must have put it there

I know you don't like to talk abt Nagito much (valid btw) but I noticed something abt how you draw him that I cannot stop myself from asking about.
So this could def be nothing but I was wondering how you go about his prosthetic? I noticed you don't really draw it much and was wondering if that was on purpose, if you had a reason for it, etc. You also draw his arm as cut off a lot higher than I see most other people draw it.
Idk, I like thinking about his prosthetic, how it works, how often he uses it, etc. and you seem to think about it much differently than most others. I just wanted to know if you had any thoughts about it or if you go based on vibes or smth.
well I do always go nased on vibes and memory which are both fallible. But also more
Just for funsies i tallied
Arm:
Missing 4
Not visible 11
Accidentally there 3
On purpose there 5
Prosthetic 1.5
Junko 3
Sometimes i forget (bc i don't draw him often) and give him his old arm, sometimes it's an ambiguous timeline. The reason is pretty simply that i really don't like drawing mechanical things, but I'm sure he would have a sick mechanical arm courtesy of Kaz.
The reason it's up high is because i imagine the, uh, 'Junko rot' had spread and it was safer to not leave any dead tissue behind. If untreated, in a bad end, which is p much all my horror stuff, it eats its way to dangerous places; Nagitos heart, Fuyuhikos brain, and Mikans general reproductive system and suchly related things. Head, heart, body.
#not an art#I overthink mechanical body parts. I cant just draw lines on it#I start thinking about where the plates meet and which goes ubder which and where the seams would be

I finally decided to make a tier list and add minor explanations. My explanations aren't meant to hurt or offend of any of the fans of these characters, this is just something i wanted to do for fun.
Tier-ly ranked in no particular order we have.....
I don't like Junko as a general villian in the series. I watched my sister play THH around 2016 and had not absorbed anything Danganronpa before then and still I saw her being the mastermind since Muruko died. The devs made her way to likable;e to make her feel like a threatening villain.
On a whole I'm not a fan of Danganronpa 2 and that is mainly because I think it had the weakest cast in the entire series despite have some of the best trail's and motives. The onlt reason I like Usami is because of my favorite Tumblr, @brainfilehasstoppedworking and Fuyuhiko is because he gives my Takemichi vibes.
Hajime, to me, is the worst protag, I just find him so fucking boring. The other 3 at least have something that I find interesting. For him it's just 'Oh he's also the antag'. Nagito is funny at times but his bastardry in UDG makes me avidly dislike him. And I just find Mikan to be really annoying. I find obsessive characters annoying and creepy because of past events. Toko is a meer exception because I find her funny in UDG and i can sympathise with her and her past.
Its a bit obvious Tsumugi had wasted potential and the Monokubs will never not be annoying.
UGD is my favorite game of the franchise and probably my favorite game overall. UDG gave us Takaaki Ishimaru and Takemichi Yukimaru I love every charecter except for Monaca because she annoys me and for her treatment of the other WoH, especially Nagisa and Kotoko.
I don't like game Haiji. However I absolutely adore my write of Haiji where he doesn't like kids (I found that part of his character really unnecessary and it felt it was only added to make Haiji seem worse than Monaca and to make her seem more sympathetic.)
final rank-(motives are separate from each rate.)
Favorite from each game:
Mondo Oowada
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu
Korekiyo Shinguji
Genocider Syo/Jataro Kemuri
Takemichi Yukimaru
Least favorite from each game:
Junko Endoshima
Mikan Tsumiki
Tsumugi Shirogane
Monaca Towa
Fuhito Kirigiri

Since it's Pride Month, it's time for some THH sexuality headcanons!
Sayaka: bi, with a preference for men. Doesn't mean she doesn't find girls PRETTY though. Might had a crush on one of her female classmates before falling in love with Leon.
Leon: straight. He's just a straight dude that's vibing.
Mukuro: bi. Pretty sure this one is kinda canon, so don't have anything else to say about this.
Chihiro: AroAce. I just... can't see him dating anybody. Ever. Plus, he's one of my favs, so that means you gotta be on the aro spectrum.
Mondo: bi, with a preference for women. Did not know he liked men before going to HP. However, it wasn't Taka that was his first male crush there...
Taka: gay. He's very gay, no explanation needed.
Hifumi: straight and ace. The other straight guy here. Don't have much else to say about him.
Celeste: bi, with a preference towards women. While she does want a castle full of servants that are men, she would rather date a woman.
Sakura: pan. Gender doesn't matter to her, she had an amazing boyfriend and now has an amazing girlfriend.
Junko: pan. Her true love is despair though.
Toko: bi. While she does like men, her true love is a woman.
Hiro: gay. He hasn't managed to find a boyfriend though. He's lonely, I'm afraid.
Hina: Lesbian. She loves girls and girls only. No boys there. The bad ending doesn't exist. Her heart belongs to Sakura
Byakuya: AroAce. If you know me, you know I have a LOT of thoughts about this headcanon. Made multiple posts about it, so won't say anything here. He and Chihiro are AroAce buddies though.
Kyoko: bi and demiromantic. She doesn't fall in love easily, though that doesn't mean she doesn't fall in love at all. Like with Makoto.
Makoto: pan. He doesn't care about gender, which causes him to fall in love very easily. He had a crush on multiple of his classmates, both male and female, before falling in love with Kyoko.

There is nothing in DR0 to suggest that this program was something Yasuke was working on in his free time - or even that was he working on any project with anyone outside of the care he provided to Ryoko.
More to the point, Junko specifically states at the end of the book that she was going to need to make changes to the memory modification he used on her to make it useful for what she needed for the lated Killing Game.
I haven't met Miaya yet - and it is entirely possible this is the project Chihiro was talking about.
But it doesn't fit with what we know of Yasuke to create something like NWP.
Here's what I think... (I hope I have not been annoying with all the these asks. Makoto, Kyoko and Byakuya's involvement with the NWP is such an interesting concept that I rarely see the fandom talk about or get to discuss about.)
I don't believe that Makoto and co had to bring any equipment to run the NWP. I think it was fully finished and developed, ready to be used anytime. I think all Makoto did was bring the remnants to the island and hook them up.
In a travel guide for Jabberwock Island, it mentions a large administrative building. That building must have the NWP installed into it. Like maybe the entire building was converted to hold this huge machine.
2. Miaya isn't the only person who worked on the program. Yasuke and Chihiro chipped in as well. And considering these are ultimates and Alter Ego was made by Chihiro, I believe that without these two, the NWP would not be as advanced as it is. So this program had to be full complete before either of them die.
So the NWP was completed right before the tragedy started. Miaya was the only ultimate still alive so when she joined Future Foundation, she likely told them about the NWP so that's how that program fell under ownership of Future Foundation. And that's also how Makoto found out it exists when he joined FF as well.
Makoto, Kyoko and Byakuya needing a crew of people to help them transport and assist in saving the remnants is something they should have had. It would be a huge undertaken to do this with only three people. But from what is seen in canon, it doesn't look like this is the case.
Those three alone really did brought 15 people to an island and hooked them up to a complex machine they have no prior training for. A machine that has to be used with extreme care or else they risk total personality destruction.
Dying in the NWP is one thing. But waking up from it and your memories and personality and entire being has been changed so you no longer are your past self is quite another. This is something Makoto has to AVOID doing while using the NWP. And he is doing it all without any help from professionals or those who built the program.
So yeah, Makoto was truly wild for doing this.
No worries, I’m interested in this stuff.
I’ve been assuming that Ultimate Programmer meant Alter Ego and Ultimate Neurologist meant Yasuke’s notes looted from Hope’s Peak after DR1. But if the Neo World Program was something Chihiro, Yasuke, and Miaya worked on before the Tragedy, then yeah, fewer logistical hurdles to jump that way.
Chihiro does mention a big, secret AI project in a DR1 free time event.
And, geez, hypothetical Makoto. You’re really lucky things turned out as well as they did, you mad lad
#musings#danganronpa#dr2#dr0#i can't speak for a character i haven't met#but i can't see this being something the yasuke we see in dr0 being involved with#he had too much junko to put up with#and he doesn't give off a collaborative vibe AT ALL#taking his notes makes much more sense

For the naejunko soulmate vision share au how would the first face to face meeting would go would makoto try to play it cool and what would junko do would she make it very well known makoto is her soulmate or not plus during the killing game with makoto seeing the control room
Ohhh boy, great questions all around! Thanks so much for asking!
For their first face-to-face meeting, Makoto doesn't play it entirely cool, but he approaches the situation similarly to how he approached Sakura being the traitor: He treats it as something that should be discussed privately before it can be made public.
First of all, he arrives at school before Junko does, so he introduces himself to a few people before she arrives.
When everyone has showed up and the official introductions begin, I'm thinking he approaches Mukuro first, says a friendly "Hi," to her, because he's seen Junko bully her and he's felt really bad for her for a while now. (Mukuro doesn't say hi back; she looks to Junko, almost like she's asking permission to interact.)
Then Makoto turns to Junko, and he says "Hi," to her too. It's a noticeably heavier "hi". But not expressly hostile. It's basically a "We both know that I know what you've done, and we need to talk about it."
But he barely gets that syllable out before Junko is squealing, "Soulmate!" and just crushing him in a big hug. "Aww, you're even tinier in person! I could just shove you in my purse and sneak you into a movie theater like a cheap snack!"
"That would be dishonest," Taka protests. "The movie theater sets the price of concessions for a reason!"
"You two are soulmates?" Aoi says. Everyone is looking between Makoto and Junko with curiosity and interest.
"I was so, so excited when I saw your Hope's Peak letter!" Junko continues, ignoring her audience despite clearly performing for them. "I brought you a present. Close your eyes."
"Uh, Junko..." Despite the resolve he had before, now he's blushing. "This is really public. Can we talk privately?"
"Oh. Do I embarrass you?" Suddenly, Junko looks like a kicked puppy. "I'm sorry. I was just really excited!"
"It's fine. I actually got you something, too. But I don't really want our first time talking to be in front of our entire class, so maybe we could meet up at lunch or after school?"
She is going to keep trying to create an atmosphere of...absurdist romance, I guess? You know those deeply uncomfortable videos of failed public marriage proposals? That's kind of what she's aiming for. Being so high-romance that Makoto has to shut her down publicly and everyone feels not-great about it. He manages to dodge a lot of her traps by just being normal and communicating.
Likewise, Junko's every attempt to treat him like a pet or accessory fails because he isn't as easily cowed as she was expecting.
Basically, she can't quite get him to make himself "the bad guy" in front of everyone, and she also can't get him to just let himself be stepped on.
They have a weird vibe. When their morals aren't coming into conflict, they have good chemistry; he works as the straight-man to her quirky persona(s), and their soulmate seeing-through-each-other's-eyes thing means Makoto is often running to stop her from doing things and she's often popping up to back up her soulmate in his mild interpersonal incidents. (Like Yasuhiro asking to sell Makoto's organs, or Mondo getting in his face, or any kind of trouble with the faculty.) Half the people he interacts with are subjected to some kind of blackmail from Junko.
(Lowkey, one of these days I need to actually write this scenario, because it's hard to describe exactly how weird their vibes toward each other would be and how misinterpreted they'd be by most of their classmates.)
As for the killing game, he'd have to be given the full amnesia treatment, like Kyoko. Otherwise, it would take him very little time to take "I know my soulmate is Junko Enoshima" and "I occasionally see through the eyes of someone who seems to be running this killing game" and reach the conclusion that Junko is the mastermind. Especially since he's seen Mukuro's face through Junko's eyes.
With the full memory wipe, all he knows it that he sometimes sees through the eyes of someone who seems to be running the killing game. It seems to mean that the mastermind is his soulmate. That's all the information he has. (Also, he would readily admit that he doesn't remember anything, whereas Kyoko would play that closer to the chest.)
Makoto occasionally seeing inside the data center and the Monokuma Control Room and feeling confused and dismayed by the implications.
Makoto getting weirdly affectionate treatment from Monokuma.
Kyoko knows that she and Makoto both have full amnesia, but not why. Kyoko studying Makoto for any signs of duplicity.
He hasn't told anyone that the mastermind is his soulmate.
(Some of the others in class have soulmates who they suddenly don't feel a bond with, because those people died at some point in the interim. Another reason for Junko to either kill or imprison their loved ones; if they could see the world outside, they'd know about the apocalypse too early.)
Makoto slowly recovers memories of his life and his soulmate. Junko didn't become famous until after they'd been soulmates for years, so initially he remembers seeing through the eyes of a girl his age who happens to be really smart. When he sees Mukuro get impaled, he recovers a memory of his soulmate playing a game with her sister, and he feels twice as bad, but he isn't sure how those things are connected.
He and Kyoko (and to a lesser extent, he and Sayaka) get close in most of the same ways as in canon, and Junko is ruthlessly jealous.

I fucking love how right after Junko is revealed as the mastermind, Makoto just starts getting so fucking frustrated and flabbergasted with her. Like, he was practically thinking ‘you made us kill each other and this is your motivation???’
Would have loved if Makoto was pissed of throughout the rest of the trial while still still being hopeful. I know it would probably ruin the vibe, but it would’ve been hilarious

Some ideas for V3 as Remanants of Despair* under the cut, cuz it's prolly gonna be rambly.
Gonna preface it all by saying that some stuff will likely be inspired by in fact by Buttercup_ghost if not just downright borrowed, bc their takes are great (fully recomending reading the fic), but I'm also trying to add my own spin to it.
Another thing is that I like the idea of V3 Remanants being delusional/convinced they're doing the right thing. They all gave me very strong self-righteous vibes, and it's a recipe for disaster. Like, class 77 are more "burning the world down to burn it" while 79 (V3) are like "gotta burn it/purge it to make it into a better place". Like, Junko specifically used the fact that they are naive and view themselves as good people against them.
Shuichi Saihara
Ok, so first of all - SAWhara? Amazing, spectuacular, never been done before, full credit to Buttercup_ghost bc I love this idea so much. But I kinda like the idea of Despair!Saihara being some kind of a harbinger of truth if you get me. He sort of is one in the game, but there he is gentle and unwilling, but as a Despair, he has none of that kindness he's occassionally willing to give to the culprits. No secrets are safe around him, he will dig it all out to cause strife and despair. Unless, of course, you can actually overcome it. In that case, you have a chance of surviving. He probably doesn't view it as truth ruining people's lives but the lies they'd told to hide it earlier.
Also, again from Buttercup_ghost, but the idea of Junko getting to Shuichi first makes just so much sense. The two best picks are either Shuichi or Kokichi, but I feel like they also cancel each other. They're both capable of falling, but also they're both capable of standing their grounds if others fall first. The difference is that Shuichi is liked and can get Junko close to others, while Kokichi is alone and he'll always be, so getting through him first is a shot in the knee kinda, bc others won't be as trusting as they would've been if you met literally anybody else first, F. Plus, there's a chance of using that loneliness against him later to make him fall, so it makes sense that way, too.
Kaede Akamatsu
It's like semi-borrowed from in fact (it's faster to write the fic titile than the author's, so I'll be doing that from now on), but only semi bc it's something I probably would have come up to myself even without reading it, like, girl decides to take the one for the team & kill somebody, hoping the person that dies will be the one that "deseved" that/was the real enemy, and it's similar here. Some people are Evil and they need to Die.
Rantaro Amami
Something something, failing your family will get you in trouble, that's also why one of the first people he kills are his own parents. I mean, you lost 12 daughters, by now you should have found at least one, you're rich and all that, you can afford it, but apparently it's only Rantaro who cares enough to involve a detective I guess? But, yeah, abusers of all kinds are the targets, neglectful parents etc etc. You get the idea. It sounds ok in paper, but the definition of abuse in his eyes is kind of unclear, so if you beat up your kid he'll be after you, and you can also just have a nasty argument with your spouse, and then you won't have a spouse, so. And, again, the point of V3 as RoD is that they are doing what they believe to be right, but they have sekwed up perception of right and wrong and zero limits.
K1-B0
Something we kinda forget about Kiibou is that he canonically looks down on Shuichi, like, bro just tells him he saw him as beneath him in their last FTE, and only changed his mind after some time. MAN. But, anyway, Despair!Kiibou isn't trying to be perceived as like humans or anything of this sort, I mean, why would he put himself on equal grounds with some people (derogatory)? He's so much better than them! He's a robot, he's smarter, he's stronger, he simply knows best. And people better recognize that or they'll get burned to crisps. I can also see him perceiving himself as somebody who should make the law (a nod to all that lawsuit things), he kinda goes dictator mode I guess. Fuck the three laws of robotics.
Gonta Gokuhara
Straight up stealing from in fact, bc Gonta going around mercy killing people who are "least likely to survive" is peak. Also love him not considering the rest of his class his friends anymore (save for Kokichi, but we'll get to it later).
Angie Yonaga
Again, in fact, Angie believing that Junko is her god makes sense to me. Grl started a cult probably, so first half of chapter 3, but there's more blood, I guess.
Tenko Chabashira
Definitely one of the more difficult ones to turn into a Despair, but I can sorta see her misandry spiking up. My idea is kinda that since Shuichi, a degenerate male, brought Junko to them, which put Himiko and other girls in danger, she straight up blamed him for what happened, and got radicalized over time. Though, admittedly, Despair!Tenko is a subject to change if I come up with something better.
Himiko Yumeno
Chapter 2 body discovery, except she's doing it on purpose. Himiko Yumeno, Blood is Magic. Maybe she embraces the "evil witch" archetype, too. Nobody will question her status as a mage if they're dead. I like where I'm going with it, but I'm struggling to put it into words, I hope you get the idea.
Miu Iruma
I tried to think of something, and against myself I ended up kinda agreeing with in fact again, oh well. It just makes a lot of sense for her to turn into a Despair out of paranoia - get them before they get you, y'know? But it's Miu, so her ego has to be involved somehow. It's a mix, then, she's afraid of everything, but also wants the world to acknowledge her genius and hotness, so if she has to blast some people into fractions, she will.
Korekiyo Shinguji
Listen he was like 16 in the game how tf he managed to not only kill almost 100 women, but also somehow not be caught. Bro isn't exactly the definition of subtle appearance-wise. He's supcious as hell, actually. And for that reason, again, sadly, in fact went into this direction, and so am I. I told you the author's takes were great.
Ryouma Hoshi
Aaaand in fact isn't over. It was awfully simple with him - he has nothing left to lose, so Junko gets him to care about her, and he doesn't care what happens to the rest of the world.
Kirumi Toujo
I'm not 100% sure about it, but I'm kind of vibing with that backstory of hers, that she once served somebody so well that person became unable to do their job, and her opting to do just that, because everybody else is fucking incompetent compared to her, and she deserves far more appreciation. She's resentful, and she'll smile and bow politely and ruin her employers' lives from the inside, showing them they're nothing in comparison.
Tsumugi Shirogane
She's a tricky one, but I can imagine Junko making her recognize her "true potential" or something. She's likely the one who idealizes Junko the most out of everybody, and I can see it as somewhat similar to the Mikan situation, which, oof. She gives Tsumugi all the attention she could possibly ask for, while for the rest of the world she might as well not exist, and she roams it in various costumes, doing whatever she pleases and avoiding responsibility. She's similar to Impostor in a way, but I'd say their difference is that Tsumugi can copy only some general stuff, mostly visually, so she can trick people into believing she's somebody else only for a little bit, while Impostor is so good they could live somebody's life for years and nobody would question it too hard unless they and the original were literally in the same room, and also Impostor can learn their skillsets. Anyway, I think at her core Tsumugi just feels worthless, so she becomes anything else for Junko, and when she's dead, her reason for being herself is gone, too - nobody cares about some Plain Jane, so she wants to become the next Junko to feel the void something something.
Kaito Momota
I'm really entertaining the idea of him just embracing the worst parts of himself - he believes himself to be the hero, the main character, the chosen one, and he requires others to recognize that. He pulls a vigilante, probably, but, as usual in Despair!V3, his view of who is and who isn't a criminal is skewed. But it doesn't matter, because he's never wrong in his judgement. He knows best who desevres or doesn't deserve to live, and he takes all the credit for putting the ones who don't into their grave.
Maki Harukawa
And who else does Kaito take the credit from if not the Ultimate Assassin herself? Ngl, they give me the vibe of Fuyuhiko and Peko. Kaito's the hero, and Maki's his sidekick, his weapon. Her hands can never be clean, but she can use them to make the world a better place by getting rid of all the filth. And she trusts Kaito's judgement, so if he tells her to kill somebody, they'll be dead.
*Kokichi Ouma
In fact gets the credit for making me realize things can be happening in the same universe, and also that V3 can be the ones responsible for what happens to him. Kokichi isn't a Remanant, he essentially takes Chiaki's role. He is by no means his class' hope, but he sure af won't let anybody touch them (well, an attempt was made). I've mentioned by Shuichi that best options would have been either to start with him or Kokichi, and yeah. Kokichi absolutelu could become Despair under the right circumstances, anybody could, but Junko made her choice, and while it was logical, it also meant Kokichi will not fall to her. He was recognized by HPA as the Ultimate Supreme Leader for a reason. Nobody touches his people and gets away with it (whoops, she did). Bro went through a Chiaki-style execution, except he reaches his class who weren't as friendly to him as Chiaki's would've been. By which I mean they toruterd him to near death. Like, I have specifically ideas for Kiibou burning his wrists, making the hand-shaped scars resemble cuffs (punishment for all the robophobia, Kiibou doesn't need the human laws to do things for him, he can judge crimes himself), Gonta knocking him out, bc he wanted Kokichi not to be awake to experience any of that, and at some point when Kokichi looks at Shuichi, Shuichi ends up stabbing him in the eye. RIP.
In the good route, both him and Chiaki survive, btw. Very long story would be that Chiaki, Nagito and Kokichi were friends in HPA, doing some investigating on Kamukura Project and Junko, and for Reasons Nagito was suspended for a while, so he wasn't there when Junko was getting to his classmates, blah blah, Kokichi tells him to go where his classmates went (Chiaki's execution place), bc he has to go after his own to safety or sth (even tells him about DICE in case something happens to him, bc he has a Plan, but no plan is 100% cerain to be succesful), so Nagito gets there when she's still alive if barely, Kamukura arrives, Nagito gets him to help Chiaki anyway. Kokichi's execution happens some time later, and Nagito and Chiaki find out and get to him when he's already like 90% in the grave & thanks to Kamukura he survives.
Bad route has them not get to Kokichi on time, and also at some point both Nagito and Chiak die, so they're both AIs in the simulation, long story.

it is important to me that you understand that:
junko has no luck (and when she does, it's bad luck)
nagito has fantastic luck, but it always comes at a cost - for every moment of good luck, there is also a moment of bad luck; the higher the good luck he wants, the greater the sacrifice of bad luck he needs first (see case 5)
izuru has luck with no cost, which makes his luck better than nagito's; he's the inverse of junko, but his luck is downloaded, fake, contrived (like the rest of his talent is)
this must be combined with:
junko can calculate and anticipate anything provided she has access to the right dataset (the better she knows someone/something, the better she can manipulate them/it - this extends to talent as well; the more data she has on how someone's talent functions, the better she can imitate it, which is why she can't imitate ryota's animation as completely in the way that she wants (different talents have different rates in terms of how much she needs to analyze them, though))
nagito can deduce but he cannot mimic; he dabbles in manipulation, but he is much more of a servant to someone else's goals, which means his analysis is always in service to someone else (kyoko is similar but not quite the same; kyoko can get to the point of deducing fast enough to prevent things, which is a lot more similar to junko's analysis, just used in a different way; kyoko's more straight forward than junko is, which is why deduce and not analyze)
izuru's analysis functions the same as junko's does, except that he doesn't need to analyze someone else's talent to mimic it; he has had talent downloaded straight into him like neo in the matrix; if he wants more talents than the ones he already has, he's gonna need them downloaded again, probably
as a result:
junko's weakness is luck and incomplete data sets; an incomplete (or wrong) data set leads to a miscalculation, and when something relies on luck and cannot be precalculated or predicted, then junko falls. she relies hard on her analysis, which gives her a blind spot. (junko, however, is aware of this. that's why she has both nagito and izuru on deck; in the hope calculation that their luck, correctly used, will allow her to predict things that happen by chance as well)
nagito's weakness is his reliance on his luck. he believes in his luck. his luck will take care of him. he can't control how it works, and he can't control how the bad luck will happen or who it will happen to, but he doesn't need to analyze something for his luck to get him out of it (and the smaller the chance that something will happen, the more likely it will happen to him; his luck works on an inverse to everyone else's, basically, so what's the point of predicting things on what is most likely to happen when, for him, it will probably be the other way around)
izuru could cover his incomplete data sets with his luck, but tends to rely so completely on his luck to cover his ass that he stops analyzing and leaves himself open there - he should be the strongest of the two, but really tends to leave him with more weaknesses until he figures out how to use the two in conjunction; something junko has figured out but cannot do because her luck is not her own
#musings#danganronpa#junko enoshima#nagito komaeda#izuru kamukura#this is how i write them in#dr1 end rewrite fic#but also this is how i write nagito's luck#it's an inverse of an average person's luck; and for every good luck there is a cost re: bad luck#he can control this to an extent in terms of he can make the chance of something /for a normal person/ smaller /and thus give it greater#luck for him/ (see russian roulette in case 4)#but there is ALWAYS a cost#izuru's only been around for a year; he's still learning how to all the things#hajime is slightly better at this sort of thing#but izuru runs so much on the vibes of how something should happen that he forgets that bad vibes are still a thing#(izuru can be /overwhelmed/)

Storm Hawks: A Pretty Fun Take on Feminism
I don't know how many people actually remember this show, or even watched it , but this is an episode that's stuck with me all these years so I want to talk about it.
For context, the plot of Storm Hawks itself is pretty basic: Evil empire taking over the world, the good guys try to stop them, shenanigans ensue because kids' show. The main cast members fall into pretty generic archetypes. too. We have:
Aerrow (the 'true blue' leader)
Piper (the smart one/the girl)
Finn (the funny one)
Junko (the buddy)
Stork (the neurotic one)
Radarr (the animal sidekick)
And we're off:
This is Storm Hawks Season 1, Episode Ten: Fire and Ice
There was a lot going on in this episode, including a climate change allegory, but for the purposes of attempting to remain somewhat concise, I'm only going to cover the feminism theme for this post. Episode ten revolves mostly around Piper, opening with the team attending a festival put on by the Blizarrians, a race of snow-dwelling, humanoid, rabbit-dog creatures with Canadian accents and stereotypes in their world. (Which might be offensive, but the show was produced by a Canadian studio, so they can make fun of themselves if they want.)
The Blizzarian team (aptly named the Absolute Zeroes) invite the Storm Hawks to come snowmobiling with them in the backcountry. Piper is enthusiastic about the invitation, being a skilled cartographer, so she wants to map out the terrain...only to be told, "Ladies don't do the backcountry training. You just stay back with the girls."
Aerrow, being a true friend, tells Piper not to listen and she can ride with him, but since she's apparently not welcome by their hosts, Piper doesn't feel inclined to go anymore.
However, when Piper goes to meet up with 'the girls' and hang out, Suzy Lu (pictured above) unexpectedly introduces herself as the Absolute Zeroes' Sky Knight (essentially their captain.) So she's the one in charge, not the men, leaving Piper with the impression, Okay maybe being left out won't be so bad after all.
Later on in the episode, Aerrow does call out the male Zeroes, telling them she is part of their team and she has every right to be there with them. However, the Zeroes meet his words with genuine confusion, with the original member who told Piper to stay behind saying, "But Sky Knights don't do the backcountry training. That's just for us squaddies."
He thought Piper was the leader and therefore didn't need to be there. Similarly, because he was the male, Aerrow thought he was the Zeroes' leader, not Suzy Lu. It's still a sexist assumption to think Piper was in charge because she was a woman, but it's definitely a fresher take than the typical, "No, woman stay home because woman weak."
Going further into the comedy of the situation, though, is the fact the 'training' the Zeroes do in the backcountry pretty much amounts to them messing around on the snowmobiles and pulling off crazy stunts. They're just 'boys being boys.' If somebody wipes out on their ride, everyone else will be concerned up until the moment the fallen team member stands back up and starts cheering to show he's okay. It gives off a vibe that's similar to parents sending their kids outside to play when they're too hyper.
Further proving the point they are a bunch of well-intentioned dorks, it's also shown that Blizzarians don't assume all women are in charge. When Aerrow suggests a solution to the aforementioned climate issue that was also going on in the episode, Suzy Lu declares, "I like your thinking." And then, as an aside to Piper, whispers, "I was wondering why this one was in charge." So upon meeting the group, she definitely had a moment of, Okay, this Aerrow guy is the leader, not Piper. Kinda odd, but humans are weird. Whattya gonna do?
...
Overall, the storytelling of Storm Hawks was a bit shallow, which doesn't often appeal to most adults, and that likely was a contributor as to why it didn't receive much attention outside its target audience. The world itself, Atmos, was an interesting concept; a world interspersed with mountain nations (terras) that rose up out of a hostile wasteland, so travel is achieved primarily by flight. This theme is seen throughout the series in the very culture as many of the characters are named after birds. (Junko (junco,) Stork, Piper (sandpiper,) Starling, Dove, Snipe, Wren, Finn (finch.) In addition to the flight, their machines were powered by these crystals that varied in type, purpose, categorization of how common or rare they were, so there was a scientific/magic element to it.
The writing was episodic in format, though, so the characters don't really have longterm goals and never really had development arcs that spanned much longer than a single episode. The conflict itself was effectively a world war, but unlike a series such as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Storm Hawks never achieved the level of seriousness or emotion that a war story demands to be compelling or really respectful of that particular theme in fiction. The characters of Storm Hawks and ATLA are fun and light-hearted, but the Storm Hawks episodes were really more goofy and child-like adventures. I mean, there is an episode where it is heavily implied the reptilian humanoids are carnivorous and eat people. Okay, fuck, that's hardcore disturbing, but the show doesn't really expand on that because it's a kids' show. Nonetheless, since it's there, you're kinda left with, Okay, either follow through with your darker themes or don't mention them at all. It's a cartoon, find a better balance than that.
There also wasn't much depth to the villains either and their motivations were really just chalked up to the standard, "We're evil." One of them was even former 'good guy' turned traitor ten years prior to the main plot, but his reasons for turning traitor were never explored or even revealed. Come on, people, what happened? Ambition? Greed? He saw the political structure of the side he fought for was fundamentally flawed and decided it was best to tear it all down?
...
However, the detail that I appreciate with this nostalgia series is the fact that there were female characters in positions of power in Storm Hawks. Most of the fighting battalions were mostly made up of men, sure, and I would have liked to see a more balanced male-female cast, but some of the teams were straight up led by a woman and there was at least one group that was exclusively women.
The main antagonist, the reigning monarch of the aggressive nation in the war, was also a woman. (Well, teenage girl, but you get the point.) What's more; she was 100% in charge. She was not influenced in any way by a male advisor, she wasn't spurred on by the memory of a male predecessor, she was never intimidated by her male generals. And she was intelligent. Throughout the series, she was a scientist, an engineer, and a fighter. (Unfortunately, in the last season, her mind started to go a bit, so she pretty much devolved into a knockoff Azula.) We even have the brief insight of her background where it's shown she inherited her throne from her grandmother, not another male ruler. Which either implies primogeniture inheritance regardless of gender or it's a matrilineal monarchy, which is interesting to speculate, but that would be headcanon territory.
...
It was a fun watch when I was a kid, but as an adult...yeah, lots of flaws, a great deal of loss in potential with world-building and storylines, and even as a kid, I knew the plots and humor of later episodes fell into a category that was more stupid than funny.
But if Storm Hawks had one strength, they had the groundwork of the feminism angle down pat and that is always appreciated.

For the amount of emphasis that was put on Makoto possibly starving down in the rubbish pit, gotta wonder how long he was down there.
And how much it effected him.
Like yeah Kyoko gave him some stuff but it was just bread and water and than the investigation and the trial and everything went on.
That boy was getting thro the trial on vibes alone, stopping every other moment when his tummy started rumbling.
Even Junko is just like erm you wanna snack break?
And than the whole he may have been injured too and just hiding it well.
Poor Makoto.
Like imagine how different that trial feels, the whole we almost killed Makoto really would hit harder on everyone.
Especially Kyoko.
The image of Makoto barely standing, his hoodie hanging off his shivering body. There's bruising on his wrists and presumably his ankles too from being chained.
He's gripping the railing of the courtroom, there's dried blood on his hands but no one knows where it came from.
And his eyes are alight with fire as he stares Junko down.
And just this, this is hope.
It's crawling out of the darkest, lowest pit you've ever been in. Gritting your teeth and standing in defiance.
He should be dead.
But he's not.
And that's reason enough to believe in going forward.
Makoto opens those doors, he gets everyone outside and is the last to leave.
The future foundation and there welcoming them.
And than and only than does Makoto give out.
He's completely and utterly exhausted, but everyones safe so he can rest.

I don’t think I posted it here yet but here’s a colored ref. of my remnant!mitarai that I referenced from his Dr3 Future Arc turnaround and if anyone wanted to draw him! :>>
So the thought process I had for his remnant design is something dark, but cozy and a bit “work from home” type of vibes.
Originally I had him in some painter’s overalls splattered in “red paint” (iykyk lol) with some handkerchiefs in the pockets based on the jeans in the Vocaloid song “Colorbars” by GHOST (I believe this song and this post on Amino by ThePantaSpider and this one from @dothackeryggdrasil is what inspired me to make a remnant design for Mitarai from the get go back in 2021/22!)
However, I felt the design seemed a bit too cluttered, and after thinking a bit that Mitarai would prefer working digitally than traditionally for his work, decided I’d scrap the overalls and give him regular pants (nothing fancy but not like. Casual or “comfy” - something that cuffs at the bottom that aren’t jeans).
The sweater’s colors was also based off of Colorbars, aka the stripes below his shoulders, and to add a bit of a pop in color - not that Mitarai will be going out and committing atrocities so he should worry too much in camouflaging himself.
I also wanted his buttoned-shirt to emulate how much he’s truly working self to the bone making works for Junko’s sake, so his shirt isn’t neated up and all wrinkled.
He’s just. Not mentally there anymore (imeannoneofthemareletsbehonestbutithinkyougetthepoint). All he cares about is pleasing Junko in whatever way he can, sacrificing his needs to do so.
The Mitarai brainrot is real folks. 👍

If Junko’s ghost varies on who sees her and how they perceived her, wouldnt the ghost that Kazuichi sees be extremely powerful? Considering his personality and how scared he normally is.
I don't think the appearance changes so much as the vibe and perhaps setting. It IS based on how differently people can see the same person, so it's more about the reaction one would subconsciously have to seeing it. Kaz would instantly recognize her as strong, scary, beautiful and cruel, because that is where his mind goes when he's reminded of her. If it's a "ghost", it's already in your head and not physical, so all you can see is what your mind lets you.
#God I love ghosts and haunting and the brain fuckery of it all. Anyway.#Its like.... have u ever had a song that you think is happy and someone else thinks is sad? You hear what your brain lets you#So in this case you also experience only what your brain lets you. On canvas it's only a rather silly looking girl#But fx. Kazuichis brain would be blasting with 'DANGER' 'FAWN AND PANIC' 'DONT FIGHT BACK' etc#At the speed of light too. That's why it takes practice to stop the immediate fear response#not an art
