I think both can be true, but arent always both true.
I read a lot, and had a ton of fun reading and writing, and also I had unknown unmedicated adhd and the stories I was absorbing and telling kept me happy and stimulated throughout boring classes and empty time and not having a ton of friends. And when youre so deep into a book or movie or whatever, that is a kind of dissociation imo, you do cease to be aware of the world around you in a meaningful way, especially when you look up and youre suddenly starving and its been hours. Im not sure if a "flow state" is a kind of dissociation or a kind of being very present.
For some people it is an escape, and thats not a bad thing. But it doesnt work backwards, not every kid who loves reading is escaping from trauma, sometimes theyre just a kid having fun and it doesbt need to be thought twice about.
And if it isnt harmful to your everyday life, your relationships, your ability to look after yourself, its fine. Theres no need to go looking for trauma under every rock, unless something isnt quite right thats giving you reason to look. Theres no need to project ones own issues onto everyone else who shares that behaviour just because. If youre happy then carry on.
And also, its true that a lot of people are messed up by regular things, unrecognised neurodivergence etc. and it can be healing to see "oh this other person is like me, Im not uniquely broken or some kind of freak". I dont really think anyone gets through life/gets to adulthood completely unscathed so Im not super on board with calling people fakers (which I am not alleging that op has done, im branching into a related discussion), but if its not negatively affecting someone life, or they dont want to look into it or hyper-analyse every aspect of their life, thats totally fine. Its not necessary unless it is. You(general) can absolutely just be someone whos always loved reading and thats all there is to it.
We have GOT to stop pathologizing the joy out of life.
Saw someone claim that if you read a lot as a child, you were disassociating. No, you were reading. Because reading is fun.
"I have a problem with maladaptive daydreaming." It's only maladaptive if it negatively impacts your ability to function in the real world. Laughing at a joke you made in your head isn't doing that.
"You seem to do a lot if creative projects. What are you escaping?" I'm escaping this conversation.
Like what is the end goal? Because so far, all this has done has made it harder to enjoy my hobbies because you're turning a mindless process into something I gotta think about.
#prpbably coukdve said that more succinctly but oh well#hope im.meaningfully contributong an not being That Guy ie waaa it isnt about me!#comment

me copy pasting my leona rant from that reblog in a separate post for all to see because i can
bro is just the smartest most cunning and intelligent guy ever. like yeah hes hot and strong but we NEED to talk more about just how much of a strategical GENIUS this man is. he knows just how strong and skilled he is which means in any situation he can immediately judge whoever hes up against and instantly know just how much strength and power to use to win. like he knew in book 6 the second he wasnt gonna win against the styx ppl and knew when to back down but every other situation he knows just how much power to use to win which they like confirm in book 6 he uses just enough to win and never more because he can perfectly judge a situation and like ik on the surface what most people notice about leona is how strong and powerful he is and i mean yeah hes like one of THE strongest people in nrc (in my personal opinion second only to malleus in magic but still more physically strong and more strategic than him) BUT WE NEVER TALK ENOUGH ABOUT THE CUNNING GENIUS THIS MAN IS he is so aware all the time and always knows exactly whats going on, so many events and chapters hes always mentally 5 steps ahead and knows whats going on well before anyone else. i cant remember the exact example but like in the halloween event from this year or smthn he like had a total understanding of the situation long before anyone else cuz hes just so smart and like hes smart like book smart but more importantly hes just aware in ways no one else really is. and about him being book smart i fully believe leona would have some of the highest grades in nrc if he applied himself. the few times he does he does like better than everyone else AND THATS W HIM SKIPPING CLASS SO MUCH imagine if he actually tried and went to class hed 100% have the best grade this man is so intelligent he just sees no reason to go to class because it is frankly useless to him he already knows all that stuff which is why he skips he already knows it so whats the point. like everyone sees leona as lazy but the stuff leonas lazy about is stuff that theres no point to try because he already knows hes better than everyone and thats his thing he doesnt need anyone elses approval he knows where he stands and feels no need to prove his worth to anyone else and i think thats actually so admirable. like for how much we say his low effort is depression (which it deff in part is) its also definitely him not feeling the need to prove himself to anyone because he knows how great he is and doesnt care if anyone thinks other wise because he knows theyre wrong so who cares. and i know he has a big ego but like.. HE CAN BACK IT UP. his ego is all from his own skill and talent this man NEVER claims something he cant back up which its like... ur ego is annoying but whats more annoying is theres valid reasoning behind it because HE JUST IS THAT GREAT
so i fully believe if leona had a significant other hed do everything to give them anything they could want. a lot of fics i read paint leona as this guy who wont really do something for his partner, or will just make someone else do it, and while in some cases i do believe hed deff like make ruggie go grab something or smthn i also believe hed want to take care of his partner. like sometimes its difficult to take care of yourself, but oh so easy to take care of someone else because its not you. and i fully believe this would apply to leona. if he has something, and its his he 100% takes care of it. he will put in the effort for someone else. he wont put in the effort for himself but for his partner? in a heartbeat. like even somethin small and typically annoying to do the only complaints youd hear are joking ones while hes already doing whatever you asked. and he also deff knows what to do for his partner before even they know. like i said before this man is canonically sooooo aware and that would deff hold up in a relationship. rarely have to ask for anything because hes already guessed what you want and is on it. also a lot of time i see people saying leona would want to brag about their partner and while i think this is true to an extent i also feel like hed want to keep his partner all to himself. something for just him that no one else needs to know about, or have their own opinions, or make their own comments.

quinn & r holding hands because theres a crowd but not letting go when they get out of it theyre each other’s crushes so like friends to lovers if you can
Jealousy, Jealousy
1221 words
kinda fluff, kinda angst
quinn fabray x reader
A/n: i tried to expand on this idea, i hope it works well for you!
you sat next to quinn in your physics class. she was scribbling away on her notebook, not caring about what the teacher had to say. you were watching her closely, admiring all of her features. her soft, pillowy skin. her soft golden hair pulled back to a ponytail. you were quickly snapped out of thought when quinn turned her head to look at you “you know, i can feel when you’re staring at me” she whispered with a smile so the teacher wouldn’t notice your conversation. you shook your head with a grin, “i wasn’t staring at you” you tried to cover yourself “i was looking out the window behind you” she turned to look at the window, “no you weren’t” she looked back at you. you just shook your head with a smile.
~
you walked down the hall, everywhere you looked you saw a hundreds of posters of prom. another reminder that you had no one to go with. of course, you wanted to go with quinn, and not just as friends. you wanted to dance with her and kiss her proudly. quinn however, was up for queen with finn hudson, quarterback. “y/n!” a voice echoed as the blonde walked down the halls, people clearing her way like she was parting the red sea. you quickly turned around with a smile “whats up q?” you asked. she stood next to you, “will you help me hang up more posters later?” you gave her a tight lipped smile before nodding “sure” you replied.
quinn furrowed her brows at you “whats wrong?” she questioned. you shook your head “nothings wrong” the blonde didnt take this for an answer “you’re not telling the truth” you pinched her cheeks with a smile, something you two always did when one of you was sad. “im okay q, ill see you later” quinn smiled at your action, “okay, ill see you later” she said as she walked towards the direction of her next class, slightly swaying her hips.
you walked to your locker and got out your books you need for your next class. your locker slammed shut, making you jump at the sound. “we need to talk” santana said. you looked at her, confused “what do we have to talk about?” you questioned “you like quinn, its obvious,” you blushed at this “i need to make brittany jealous, you need to make her jealous” you quickly cut her off “why would i need to make quinn jealous?” you questioned her “the same reason i need to make brittany jealous, to get her in your arms, now” she put her finger up “dont interrupt me again,” she paused for a few moments before continuing “heres my plan, we run for prom king and queen, brittany runs into my arms and quinn runs into yours” santana paused to see if you needed anything clarified “but were both girls?” santana groaned “that doesnt matter, but one of us is going to have to run for king” she paused with a smug look on her face “and that is going to be you” you shrugged “cool, tell me if i need to do anything else” you said before walking off.
~
you were sat in your living room, reading a book on your couch before loud knocking from the door interrupted your thoughts. you sighed and put your book down before standing up and walking to the door. the knocking didnt stop until you opened the door. a certain blonde was stood still, her brows furrowed with her other hand on her hip. “whats up lucy q?” you only used this name in private, as you know that quinn didnt want anyone knowing about her past.
“you’re running from prom court with santana?” she yelled. you looked around before walking outside and closing the door. “whats wrong with that?” you questioned. the blonde scoffed “she’s just using you to make brittany jealous!” she didnt lower her volume “whatever, even is she is at least have someone to go with!” you matched her tone.
quinn knew this was a dig at her. you two used to go to everything together, it didnt matter what. she looked stunned “im sorry, i shouldn’t have-“ quinn cut you off with her finger “save it” she said as she walked back to her car. you wanted to chase her, but you knew she would just push you away if you tried.
~
prom night quickly approached. you and santana had gotten ready together, her in a bright red dress, you in a suit with a bright red tie to match. “i think our plan is already working” you said softly. she looked at you sadly “quinn get pissed?” she asked walking towards you. you nodded before wrapping your arms around her, pulling her into a tight embrace. the latina was shocked by your affection before wrapping her arms tight around you. “this will all work out, i promise” she reassured.
~
you sat at a table, watching as santana danced with brittany. your head was pounding like crazy, and not to mention the crowd of people you had to walk through to even get a glimpse at the girl you where here for. you put your head down on the table and tried to block out the loud sound from the speakers with your hands. you stayed like this until you felt a warm hand rubbing up and down your back “i can always sense when you’re in pain” you hear a familiar voice and shot up, causing you to groan in pain. quinn looked down at you before taking your hand and pulling you out of the gymnasium. she stopped after you were pulled into a far hallway, attempting to block any sound that could've came from the gym.
you looked at her and sighed. the blonde girl in front of you put a hand on your cheek, not letting go of your hand with her other. “why’d you go for prom court with her?” she questioned. you sighed “she said that if we went for prom court it would make you and brittany jealous” quinn raised an eyebrow “why did you want to make me jealous” you could see her lips start curling back into a smile before she stopped herself. you ignored this before taking a deep breath “i like you a lot quinn, like a lot a lot, more than friends” her smile took over her face before she moved her hand on your cheek and grabbed the back of your neck. she pulled you closer before pressing her lips onto yours. you were stunned for a moment before kissing her back.
you two stayed in this position before pulling away once air was a necessity. quinn smiled at you once you opened your eyes. “i guess our little plan worked huh y/n” santana appeared from the the corner of your eye. brittany stood behind her “dang it! now i owe lord tubbington 20 dollars!” quinn laughed at the girl before pulling you by her hand, which she must’ve been holding for at least 5 minutes now. “call us if one of us wins but im gonna take y/n home” the blonde said beginning to walk with you out of the building.
“oh i guess my plan worked a little too well huh?”

I finished acotar a while ago and I was gonna write a review right away but then christmas happened and I was pretty busy and wanted to enjoy myself so youre getting like two weeks late
It was fine, I really didnt have any strong feelings about the book itself. Like, my main complaints are that it was pretty boring and directionless for most of it and stuff thats mainly related to the next books, if I just look at it as a standalone I would describe it as "not for me, but not that bad"
That is, until we get to Under The Mountain, where everything just gets really stupid and convoluted. That whole section, which is a solid fourth or fifth of the whole book, severely clashes with the sweet fairytale romance that came before it. It reminds me of how all those twilight-knockoff trilogies in the 2010s would have two pretty low-stakes books worth of basically only romance with some weird magic sprinkled on top, and then in the last book it would turn out that the protagonist and her beloved need to Go To War or the world will end except even worse (also now that I think about it, the first three acotar books also seem to be structed like that, so youre getting two shitty plot structures in one. yayyyyyyy)
There was literally no reason for all of that happen, it was honestly just unpleasant reading about Feyre, who had spent the book recovering from her trauma in a way that was genuinely pretty nice to read about, being tortured for three months until she was feeling worse than she ever had before. And some people might say "oh, thats the point, its meant to be tragic" but it didnt feel like tragedy, it just felt tonally dissonant. Also, the entire ending was so weird and dragged out, like that bit where she and Tamlin are staying one last night UTM for some reason and then she talks to Rhysand before they finally leave and its like, BRO dont stay in the Palace of Torments for any longer than you have to, just leave through that portal-tunnel thing
Speaking of Rhysand, he wasnt that bad in this book but Im sure my opinion on him will change. The main thing that sticks out about him is how sjm simply could not resist ALREADY explaining all of his motivations and portraying him as someone whos obviously so noble, despite all the obviously horrific and completely unecessary shit hes doing. Like, theres that scene where Rhysand crushes that guy's brain when Amarantha ordered him to crush his mind and the narration goes "that was actually an act of mercy from Rhysand" ??? that mightve worked better in third person limited where youre working without the implication that the prose is the pov character's actual thoughts, but since its first person and meant to be Feyre's thoughts I was just like "why is she thinking that when she should be thinking 'holy fucking shit, i just signed my life over to a guy who could squish my mind like a grape if he wanted to?!?!?!!'"
Also, theres that scene where Rhysand comes into Feyres cell to "escape from it all" or whatever and he basically monologues to her about his sympathetic motivations and I just. sarah, girlie, you shouldve saved this shit for the second book. Like, rewrite the scene so that he just comes in eithout a word, hes totally unresponsive to Feyre insulting him or trying to ask him what hes doing here, he just sits down in the corner, knees pulled to his chest, he mutters something vague about just wanting to be left alone, maybe he's even got tears in his idk. I think that would be a far more effective way to have him be sympathetic in a more subtle way than just having him monologue his tragic circumstances and noble intentions at Feyre
Thats about it so far, I'll probably start reading ACOMAF in january when winter break is over and I can read it on the bus and in class again

masterlist | chapter 3 | chapter 5
The Dark Arts assignment felt like a fluke.
Well, it was a fluke.
You wouldn’t have gotten the grade that you got without the help of Tzuyu.
After that assignment, they seemed to keep piling on top. Playing Quidditch seemed to be up for debate again. Though you know somewhere deep in your mind you were playing this year. Still, you couldn’t catch a break from your studies.
Often, you found yourself in the secluded corner of the library, the place had become yours. If you weren’t hunched up over a textbook there, you were in the Great Hall. Always scribbling away on parchment, writing and rewriting your notes. Transfiguration theory made no sense at all.
Professor Lee’s words from earlier in the day returned to you.
She asked you to stay behind after class much like the many times she had before. You readied yourself for a scolding. A lecture about how you could do better, how your grades were slipping, and how you aren’t achieving your full potential.
You never understood what she saw in you.
“What are you doing?” Professor Lee asked, her eyes not lifting away from the book in front of her.
“I don’t understand—”
“I asked what are you doing in my class?”
Your heart stopped beating.
“I don’t know, Professor. I'm not sure as well... I don’t know what I’m doing in your class. I don’t know how I passed and I definitely don't know how—” you stopped your rambling. You should’ve put this together sooner. How could you be so stupid? “Did my parents—?”
Finally, Professor Lee looked at you.
"No." Her gaze was scathing.
She held your stare. A lifetime seemed to pass. You don’t if you should be relieved or terrified of this revelation.
It seemed unreal.
There was no way you were in this class without your parents pulling some—
“You are more than aware of my standards. Especially to enter my N.E.W.Ts class,” Lee straightened as she watched you freeze in real-time. Then her gaze softened, only ever so slightly. “The only reason you are in my class is because of your merit. You have potential.”
What potential is she going on about?
“Nothing else,” Professor Lee paused, her eyes steely as she finished. “And no one else.”
“I understand,” you didn’t attempt to repeat what you say every year. You really did understand, you couldn’t let her down. You didn't want to let her down. Changes meant the most these next two years. So, you will work hard this year, and unlock whatever potential she sees in you.
“Now, get out. You’re wasting my class time,” and she was back.
With a salute, you let in the quiet first years who had lined up outside. You didn’t catch the little boy waving at you.
The conversation kept playing in your mind. It brought a new sense of motivation you fear you’ve never felt… at least not for anything apart from Quidditch. It also brought up an immense amount of stress. You were playing this year, you were studying hard this year. Will you be able to win the cup again? Will you be able to pass next year? Only weeks passed and already your control was slipping. You hated that feeling with every fibre of your being.
Every sound in the hall seemed to unnerve you, clawing and climbing its way up your back until you couldn’t even hear your own ragged breathing. Couldn’t notice that you were grinding your teeth, jaw locked and aching. Worst of all, you didn’t realise your grip had pushed the quill in and torn the parchment. A gaping hole where words should be. You were so tightly wound up, all the tension caught in the back of your neck.
Which is why when someone tapped your shoulder, you sneered much like a rabid dog. “What?”
The regret was immediate when you saw familiar glassy eyes staring back. The apology is ready on your lips but...
What was his name again?
“Minwoo just wanted to say hello. You missed us by the Transfiguration class,” the diligent girl from the feast! What was her name? She was quick to step in front of Minwoo, completely blocking him from your view. That strikes you as odd, you couldn’t place why. “He was wondering about joining Quidditch, we both were… I’m Jooyeon, by the way.”
Busted by an eleven-year-old. This had to be a new low for you.
“Right, sorry for that. I’ve been so busy with assignments and it just didn't—never mind, that doesn’t matter!” you said sheepishly and pushed aside your parchment and turned to face them. When Minwoo didn’t look up, you sighed. “I’m sorry for snapping at you, Minwoo. I shouldn’t have done that, please forgive me.”
Finally, the boy looked up from behind Jooyeon’s shoulder. Were those tears in his eyes?
“Listen, are you—” you started but then caught yourself. From Jooyeon’s protective stance to Minwoo’s tears, you surmised this wasn’t about you. Something else was at play here. You just didn’t have enough information… yet. You dropped the line of question and put on the best smile you could muster. “What do you want to know about Quidditch?”
“We want to try out.”
Quidditch season was finally beginning. Eunbi pushed back tryouts in favour of her studies. Though, you knew she was plotting something. Especially with open positions. You don’t know what that meant for you, but you trusted her.
When you arrived on the field, most of your teammates were already there, geared up and gathering equipment. Eunbi stood to the side, frowning at the piece of parchment in her hand. In front of her were the potential recruits, they were thrumming with anxiety. It was easy to discern what years they were from their little groups and behaviour.
Minwoo and Jooyeon stood to the far left. Separated even from the other gawking first years who would no doubt be rejected. First years rarely made substitutes, let alone the team. But you understood their enthusiasm, you had been in the same place a few years back. In fact, a large number of second and third years weren’t going to be happy with Eunbi’s decisions either.
A smile graced your face as you patted your pockets with your free hand to find something.
“Good to see you two here,” you sidled up to Minwoo and he nearly shot a meter into the air. Why is this kid so jumpy around you? That will have to be amended. You smiled at his friend and said, “Hello Jooyeon.”
“Weird,” you muttered and leaned forward to catch Minwoo’s frog before it could leap away from him. “You’re supposed to eat these, not let them get away.”
Excited wouldn’t be the word you’d use. Minwoo couldn’t seem to look you in the eyes. Even worse, he kept glancing back at the crowd of Slytherins, shaking a bit.
Sighing, you began, “I understand if you’re nervous, it’s only natural. That’s why I brought you guys something.”
At that, both of them looked up at you, eyes shining.
“How do we feel about chocolate frogs?” you asked, as you fetched two from your pockets and handed one to each.
“I saw these on the train,” Minwoo smiled, finally. It relieved you. “Thank you!”
“I want to know who you got, open them, go on!” You folded your arms as their nervousness seemed to dissipate.
“Headmistress Boa,” Jooyeon said, reading the card while holding the frog in one hand.
“I got her too!” Minwoo said as he giggled at the frog jumping up his arm.
“Weird,” you muttered and leaned forward to catch Minwoo’s frog before it could leap away from him. “You’re supposed to eat these, not let them get away.”
“But it’s alive—”
“We’re about to start,” Yeri shouted with a clap. That was your cue to leave.
“We good?” you raised your fist to Minwoo.
“Yeah, we’re good,” Minwoo grinned and bumped your fist. “Thanks again for the chocolates.”
You aimed your fist at Jooyeon and she reciprocated as well. With a proud nod, you sauntered over to your team.
Yeonjun quickly made his way to your side and bumped his shoulder into yours. Smiling, you glanced around. This team carried you through many wins throughout the last two years. You were a precise, well-oiled machine led by Eunbi. What you lacked, your teammates covered with their strengths. The only missing spot was your Keeper, who graduated last year.
Plus, next year Eunbi will graduate. Followed right after by you, Yeri, San, and Yeonjun which leaves Olivia to fend alone. The thought was mortifying. You understood why talks of a new captain and tryouts seemed so important.
Eunbi scanned the crowd in front of her and nodded. “Quidditch is not easy. It’s brutal.”
You couldn’t help but smile at the familiar start. A spiel you have heard so many times you could probably announce it yourself.
“Without proper practice and dedication, you’ll be living in the Hospital Wing,” you couldn't help but snicker as you rolled your left wrist. Beside you, Yeonjun grabbed his right shoulder and sighed. Everyone landed in the wing at least once and that was being generous. “Forget positions, they don’t matter. What’s important is flight, speed and endurance.”
Gasps already erupted at Eunbi’s dismissal of the roles in the team. The next part should be fun.
“Five minutes,” Eunbi held up her palm. “That’s how much time I want you flying laps around the field and at the fastest speed you can manage—”
Now, the juniors seemed to pale as the senior students only groaned. This was nothing. They’d endure much worse in a proper game, a grim thought but it was true.
“—I need you to push yourselves. Those who don’t fly as soon as I say start, who fall behind, and who fail to complete all five minutes will be instantly cut.” Eunbi was merciless. “Line up! First years at the front, and each year following right behind.”
You smirked at how quickly your juniors fell into lines. Your teammates and senior students strolled up behind them. Olivia was up ahead, glaring holes into other fourth year students. Some sixth years lined up just ahead of you. It was hard not to follow in Olivia’s footsteps and glare holes into a familiar mop of hair. Fortunately, Yeonjun and Yeri’s bickering brought you back to the present.
Your line consisted of the pair and San. You didn’t have to interject to know that this race would earn you some money. San shook his head as he lowered himself on his Nimbus, already at an advantage. When you glanced at him, his usual easy-going smile was nowhere to be found.
The second Eunbi yelled the four of you were in the air. It was too easy.
San was speeding through the crowd of students, deftly avoiding any stragglers and leading the lap. The things you would do to get a hand on that broom of his. You didn’t need to look back to know that some juniors struggled with the initial take-off. Yeonjun soon followed San, quick to catch up with him. Yeri, however, had seemed to completely give up on the bet and joined you, instead. She zig-zagged through the crowd as if it were a leisurely flight and not an ordered task.
One look at her and you knew what was in her mind. Shaking your head, you steered beneath the crowd. With a grin, you completely flipped yourself around as Yeri mirrored you. You began rotating and increasing your speed. If strings were attached to your brooms, it would look like a helix. This is what happens when you don’t do your regular midnight flights. Eunbi was going to chew you out for this stunt but it meant all the same when you caught Yeri’s laughter against the wind.
Dizzy, you righted yourself just as someone zoomed past you.
Olivia.
She passed Yeonjun and San just as another person flashed by you. They caught up easily to your youngest Chaser, her ponytail just as black as Olivia’s.
Not having the heart to jostle Olivia when she was determined, you joined your friends. All four of you watched Olivia and her rival keep trying to one-up each other, even though it was futile. They were matched in skill. You assumed it was the fourth year she was glaring at.
Unsurprisingly, Olivia and the fourth year were the first to land when the five minutes were over. Both of them were panting and shaking, yet still managed to glare daggers at each other. Eunbi squinted at the two of them as you landed easily beside her.
That was not the case for a lot of students.
Completing the exercise was one thing but landing afterwards was another task altogether. Some landings were disastrous, the fatigue and nausea couldn’t have helped. And those who did manage to land somewhat decently, instantly crumpled to the ground from vertigo. Eunbi scrutinised them unflinchingly before considering her parchment.
You searched for Minwoo and Jooyeon only to find them both sitting on the ground. Jooyeon was in much better shape than Minwoo, they landed safely and that was all that mattered. It was hard not to miss the way Hyukwoo stood proudly when you scanned the crowd. He didn’t seem fazed at all. The idea of playing by his side made you nauseous.
It couldn’t be helped though.
Your teammates and previous substitutes were called up. Hyukwoo threw a smirk at you and your hands twitched.
Some new faces were called. Huh Yunjin. That was the name of the fourth year that competed with Olivia.
However, the majority was rejected. Granted, as Eunbi mentioned, some people would be instantly cut and cut they were.
“That is all,” Eunbi said with no hint of remorse.
“That’s all? We’re done already?” Someone in the back whined and you bristled. “We just flew around the field, that doesn’t measure our skill. Plus, we had to use these stupid school brooms.”
The silent but agreeing crowd parted for a girl. Possibly a first year, definitely a pureblood. The school broom frayed and splintered, landed with a whimper when she threw it at Eunbi’s feet. The sight was familiar.
Eunbi only stared at the broom, not saying a word. You were about to speak up when she inhaled deeply.
“You’re right, the school brooms suck.” The girl’s head perked up to hear the Captain agreeing with her. “Unfortunately for you, that’s not a good enough excuse.”
You couldn’t help but glance at Hyukwoo, only to find he was already staring at you. His expression was unreadable.
Eunbi called your name, followed by Yeonjun and Yeri. As if controlled by puppet strings, the three of you stepped forward at the same time, heads held high.
“These three became substitutes in their first year with those ‘stupid’ school brooms.”
“So did Eunbi,” Yeri said with a smirk before you could. Even her smile didn’t reduce the tense atmosphere.
“It’s not a good enough excuse,” Eunbi repeated. “Try next year with your own broom then.”
The student scowled, ready to whine but her friends dragged her away. With that, the others began to leave as well. Eunbi began shouting orders but you quickly excused yourself to catch up with Minwoo and Jooyeon.
“Sorry, you guys didn’t make the team.”
“It wasn’t realistic anyway,” Jooyeon shrugged but Minwoo’s disappointment was clear on his face. He stared at the pureblood girl who was yelling at her friends as she walked out. He then turned to you, disappointment morphed into caution as he said the next four words.
“Are you a pureblood?”
Jooyeon shot him a look, clearly startled by his question. Every interaction with this kid only seemed to confuse you more.
“Um, yeah,” there was no better way to put it.
“So you’re a full wizard?”
Jooyeon hissed his name and you stood there, perplexed.
“Full wizard? Minwoo, you’re a wizard too,” you said, indignant at the claim. Then it clicked. “Hold on, did someone say—!”
“Yes, but both your parents are wizards, right?” You couldn’t help but bristle at the mention of your parents. “You’re a full wizard? Both my parents are muggles so I’m a—”
“Listen, that doesn’t matter,” that was a blatant lie but you had to stop him. Jooyeon had the same idea as she nudged his side. Minwoo was unbothered by his friend and unconvinced by you. “At least, not anymore.”
That wasn’t a lie… but it wasn’t the truth either.
You had to tackle this delicately.
“You’re here at Hogwarts, yeah?” you asked and waited for an answer.
“Yes.”
"Did a wand choose you?"
"Yes."
“Can you do magic?”
“Yes.”
“Then you’re a wizard, simple,” comfort didn’t come easy, you barely believed yourself. There was a strange tension in your voice but it was difficult to ignore the implication of Minwoo’s words. “Minwoo—both of you—if someone is bothering you, you come let me know, alright? Promise me that!”
For some reason, you guessed who would be putting these thoughts into these kids. Harassing first years had to be a whole new low, even for him.
When Minwoo didn’t answer, Jooyeon did. “We will, we promise. Thank you!”
She raised her fist and your lips twitched up at the action. You bumped yours with hers before moving it in front of Minwoo. Both you and Jooyeon waited with bated breath. Minwoo left but not before brushing his fist against yours and mumbling goodbye.
Jooyeon grumbled an apology on his behalf before running after Minwoo.
Are you a pureblood? So you’re a full wizard?
This was not how you wanted tryouts to go. For the most part, you were out of it, fortunately not enough for Eunbi to notice. Granted, she had her hands full.
You could only think about Minwoo.
Eunbi, in the time you'd spent with first years, had split up the recruits into small groups. There were also workshops so every new member could get a feel of each role. Everyone was assigned their usual roles except for Yeonjun and Oliivia. The former took up the Keeper’s role while the latter shadowed Eunbi, the pair conversing seriously.
You walked over to the chest where the Bludger rattled in its cage, Yeri sidled up as you sighed.
“You alright?” she asked, motioning to the recruits assigned to the two of you.
“Yeah, I'm fine—no,” you changed when you caught Yeri’s stare, “I’ll tell you later.”
She nodded, dropping the topic altogether before speaking to the new teammates. You recognized one of them quickly, yet you forgot her name already.
“Huh Yunjin,” Yeri whispered beside you as you picked your bat, sarcasm dripping with every word. “Olivia’s best friend.”
“Do you know why?”
“Jealousy. Possible threat. Youngest privileges lost,” Yeri stopped to look at you. “Do you want me to keep listing more reasons? Or… ?”
You rolled your eyes at your friend and rounded up the pair, gesturing at them to take off into the air.
“They’re fourth years, what did you expect?” Yeri yelled after you, no shame in admitting what she was whispering about.
Shaking your head, you began to explain the basics of your role. Though you’re sure they were already well aware of that, so you made sure to emphasize just how dangerous being a Beater could be. Right on time, a resounding crack echoed through the field.
The act was involuntary, muscle memory alone carried the task for you. The Bludger zoomed past the two recruits and with another resounding crack was sent back straight for Yeri. Flawless aim and deadly strength. You couldn’t help but smirk at yourself.
The new students looked terrified, to say the least, but they were poised to whack the Bludger. When Yeri sent the ball back, it lacked its usual vigour, her hit purposely pulled back. Yunjin took the initiative putting herself in the ball's way before taking a swing.
She managed to hit the ball back in Yeri’s general direction with quite a bit of strength, she showed promise. However, she did slightly stumble to the side of her broom, almost losing balance but she was quick to catch herself. Yunjin turned to you with a proud smile, awaiting praise. You couldn’t deny her that.
“Well done, that was a good shot,” she straightened as you turned to the other recruit. “Your turn.”
The colour seemed to have completely drained from the kid’s face. If he wasn’t already terrified about facing a Bludger, the fact that Yunjin had managed to hit it almost perfectly couldn't help. Trusting your gut, you readied yourself in case something went south.
A thunderous crack filled the stadium, his strength was paramount.
Now if only he hadn’t smacked the Bludger backwards. Heading straight for the stands.
You swore enough to lose a solid amount of points from your house. Good thing you were ready because you were flying at a speed you normally saved for your games. Your best friend has the same idea because Yeri was right by your side in a second.
Ignoring the shrieks from the audience, the pair of you managed to surpass the Bludger with just enough space to spare. Without sharing a glance, you raised your batting hand and striked the Bludger. So had Yeri.
With double the power of notorious Beaters, the Bludger soared high above the field and over the other end of the audience. Yeri only grumbled before speeding away after the ball. Leaving you to deal with the students whose lives you put at risk.
When you turned, the first person you see is Chou Tzuyu.
Like a magnet, your gaze seemed to land on her first. Her steely stare renders you speechless for a moment. Her knuckles were white from clutching a textbook you didn’t recognise. You wondered whether the pages were cutting into her skin.
“Listen, I’m so sorry, Tzuyu,” you may have joked about how you were always apologising to her if someone hadn’t interrupted you by clearing their throat. Aggressively.
Finally, you noticed the three other people seated next to Tzuyu. You couldn’t put names on two of them, one of which was clutching their heart as they whispered to the girl next to them. Her eyes were in crescents as she let out a chuckle, blushing to her ears. But, you did recognise Yeosang, Wooyoung’s best bud!
Or so that's what Wooyoung claimed. You’ve never heard Yeosang confirm it. For that very reason, you doubted the Ravenclaw had a glowing impression of you.
“Yeosang, buddy—”
“No.” He stood up, his eyes rolling back into his skull as he dragged the Hufflepuff next to him. They whined and made quite a scene as they were pulled away, the girl beside Tzuyu only giggled at their antics. You didn’t miss the wink they sent her before turning your attention back to Tzuyu.
Her eyes were glassy as she stared. You’ve seen her smile, you know how she can light up a room. Yet, she managed to place such a cruel unfeeling mask over herself.
“I really am sorry,” you said as the girl, having come down from giggles, shook her head. “Try-outs can be… rough.”
You turned to Tzuyu again, hoping you salvaged something of your friendship. Not even, just merely the beginning of it. Her features were still steely, which wasn't good. When her friend’s hand came to rest atop hers, she softened. That was incorrect, her eyes didn't soften, she just lost her glare.
“This is Gahyeon,” Tzuyu said, sentence clipped. “My friend.”
Gahyeon smiled widely, extending her hand. Before you could even say your name she did it for you.
“I know who you are,” Tzuyu shot her a strange glare but Gahyeon ignored it, unfazed by Tzuyu’s behaviour. “We’re all good, we knew you and Yeri had it covered. Hope the rest goes better than this!”
With a sad smile, you lowered your head again to apologize. You glimpsed at Tzuyu. Her features were still clouded with distaste, and maybe curiosity, but shifted to her aloof self as soon as she noticed you staring. Bidding them an awkward farewell, you turned to fly back to the third year.
Yunjin was to a side, her prideful demeanour nowhere to be found because she knew what was coming. The third year at fault was shaking on his broom but that didn’t deter you.
With more vitriol than necessary, you said, “You better be good at some other position because you’re not a Beater!” He tried to say something but you were quick. “There’s no point if you’re all strength, you could’ve hurt someone—”
Yeri's voice came from somewhere to your side, but you decided to continue, baseless anger slipping past tightly shut gates. But your best friend placed a hand on your shoulder and pulled you back, forcing you to face her.
The look on her face said everything you needed to hear. You can’t berate a kid for something they can’t control and no one was hurt… Tzuyu wasn’t hurt.
“Get the next pair,” Yeri ordered and all you could do was nod. As you flew down, you could hear Yeri console the third year who was reeling from your words.
Apart from that incident, practice went quite smoothly. The tasks were easy enough to follow, you and Yeri made sure to inform the recruits to consider aim and strength before swinging the bat wildly. Although, you didn’t allow room for anything to go wrong. Especially with the feeling of someone watching your back.
After discussing with her teammates, Eunbi assigned substitute positions to the recruits. Though, everyone anticipated who would be the lucky person to fill up the Keeper position. Hyukwoo seemed all too smug, no doubt expecting the position to be his. Which is why it was all the more satisfying to see his expression sour when Yunjin was picked.
Introductory ice-breakers. Short warm-up. Flight exercises. Two hours seemed to pass by in a blur before Eunbi decided it was time to play a few mock games.
It was supposed to be harmless but everyone seemed to take it seriously. That was understandable under Eunbi’s unyielding watch.
The intensity increased tenfold when the captain herself joined, taking her position as the Seeker. The small crowd lounging around the stadium cheered and it almost felt like a real game. Though, you and Yeri were grinning ear to ear, exhilarated just to play together again.
Once the match ended, Eunbi asked everyone to relax but not before reminding the team to meet at the changing rooms later. Some of the younger recruits were not so eager to do nothing, they began rounding up equipment for the arriving Hufflepuff team.
Eunbi was long gone and you waved away your friend's call to play catch in the air. Instead, you finally took the time to do what you loved; fly unperturbed. You missed the feeling of the winter chills crawling up your sleeves, cooling down the sweat on your forehead. Soon your mindless rounds came to a slow drive, almost floating in place, suspended in the air as you smiled at no one in particular. To even have considered not playing this year was a fool’s thought.
A blur hurtled past before turning to stop in front of you. The shiver that ran down your spine was difficult to shake off.
“So it’s real then?” Wooyoung’s voice squeaked at the end. You hoped he wasn’t insinuating what you think he was. “You and Chou Tzuyu?”
“What are you on about… ” the question died on your lips when Wooyoung looked to his left and you followed his gaze.
Not even a few meters away, Tzuyu was seated exactly where you’d left her an hour ago. Her friend, Gahyeon, if you remember correctly, was reading the prefect's textbook. Tzuyu’s attention, however, was completely on you.
Apparently, in your daze, you had been flying near her. And in return, she’d been watching you.
Fortunately, your best friend had immaculate timing.
But none of the decorum.
Yeri saved you from the paralysing staring concert by crashing right into you.
Being the professional that she is, Yeri pivoted at the right moment, parking herself beside Wooyoung. You weren’t so graceful. The groan you emitted was ugly and pained, but at least you didn’t topple off your broom and plummet to your death. The most you experienced was disorientation from the blood rushing to your head. Oh, and the insurmountable amount of embarrassment. Why was Tzuyu looking at you?
Blinking away the white spots, you scowled at your so-called friends who cackled at your misery. “Was that necessary?”
“Wouldn’t have been if you hurried instead of ogling Hufflepuffs,” Yeri offered an unapologetic smile. She was right, none of your teammates were anywhere to be seen on the field.
“And it wasn’t even me?” Wooyoung pouted, his voice pitched higher. Both you and Yeri groaned at that. “I’m heartbroken.”
“Alright, we’re done here,” you said as you turned away from Wooyoung’s unbearable expression.
“No, don’t leave me—” Wooyoung groaned instead of finishing the sentence. No doubt, Yeri shoved him too.
“Good luck with practice, Woo,” you called out as you descended. Yeri was quick to pass you, shaking her head with a smile as she did.
You didn’t leave the field without sparing one last glance at Chou Tzuyu.
Her eyes had never left you.
“We’re focusing on scoring this year,” Eunbi said just as you entered the changing rooms. “This means Beaters, I need you to prioritize Chaser’s protection over mine.”
You hadn’t even gotten the chance to seat yourself before you were shooting up.
“What?” you squawked along with Yeri. The team was quick to follow with their outcries.
Being a Seeker was no walk in the park. The title alone was an automatic target on your back. It didn’t help that there was a running joke of a guaranteed win if Eunbi was eliminated first. Of course, that has never happened. Eliminating Eunbi that is. Not with you carelessly taking Bludgers for her with your head instead of your bat. All ten fingers and ten toes wouldn’t be enough to count how many fouls you and Yeri have intercepted. It was only natural that one of the Beaters was always floating around Eunbi.
So to ask for no protection seems ill-advised.
Undeterred, Eunbi continued.
“This is especially important for our opening game with Gryffindor. Jongho did a damn good job of blocking most of our goals last year,” Olivia scowled at the mention of the Keeper. He hadn’t let her score a single goal. “Focusing on scoring means not only prioritizing our Chasers, but the opposing team’s Chasers as well. If you can keep the Bludgers and their Beaters concentrated on them, then I will be fine.”
“That’s a big if.” Yeri stated, not necessarily rejecting Eunbi’s unconventional strategy.
“You are more than capable of pulling it off. I just need you to do it,” Eunbi said, her eyes glossing over the entire team. “All of you.”
any feedback is much appreciated.

(About your proship/anti post) tbh it's kinda both sides that don't think critically, but I think the "anti" side is worse about it? Proshippers are usually obnoxious online, but some/most of their views are at least informed by research and studies, whereas a lot of (not all) antis say stuff like "if you put these barbie dolls in this specific situation you are automatically excusing and/or directly causing pedoincest abuse to happen, also if you are a survivor I'm gonna have a savior conplex and demand you find a 'better' coping mechanism. I know better because I'm 15 and take AP psych classes"
Both sides suck overall and the discourse is stupid, but I'd say the "viewing/creating problematic fictional work doesn't automatically brainwash you or define/express your morals or make you a bad person" makes a lot more sense than "liking problematic media makes you an abuser or complicit, and even if someone bypasses all warnings or invades a space they shouldn't be in, it's your fault if they react badly to it. Censor all stuff I dislike now"
Also most "proship" people wouldn't even be doing discourse in the first place, if they weren't getting harassed, doxxed, having to publicly lay out their trauma (if they have any), etc by the anti side over cartoons and video games and books. Abusing/harming real people over fictional content to (not even) prevent hypothetical abuse/harm is, objectively, worse than reacting to said abuse in ways that are annoying or obnoxious, especially when the typically more abusive side has such weird takes that...really don't involve much critical thinking At All, past maybe middle-school-level media literacy
I dont think its that simple tbh. I mean I occupy circles of tumblr that do bat hard against ideas that writing fiction about "problematic" subjects is not inherently harmful (which is true!) but I dont think that belief alone shows a level of "media literacy" whatever you think it means and I don't think implying that people who think differently to you just aren't as educated is really a useful way to engage in discourse. I also don't believe that proshippers who simply yell about intellectualism, critical thinking and media literacy actually do care about those things when someone is critical of their interests for a valid reason (e.g. misogyny).
I think there are probably a lot of proud antis who would say theyve been doxxed and harassed too. You use the example of a particularly combative 15 year old, meanwhile teenagers who do in fact express those views, which may not be ones they hold once they've grown a little, have been harassed by people on the internet who are much older who believe they are justified in their actions for the sake of preserving fandom.
You also imply that the views of proshippers aren't as harmful and simply react to being harassed but this untrue. Proud proshippers often harass people of colour for speaking out against fandom racism, viewing them as aggressive outsiders who disrespect the (white) culture in fandom spaces. The pro/anti divide isnt that simple bc a lot of people of colour get depicted as antis for criticising fandom behaviours which, in these proshippers minds, further justifies their abuse.
Overall, I think a lot of proshipper views don't start and end with writing any fiction is fine because its fiction (even tho thats the main view which i agree with), theres a lot of believing of the preservation of fandom culture on that side, which has always been one way of course, until the "puriteens" showed up which is silly and it just as easily leads to harassment as antis beliefs can do and can end up leading to misogynistic and racist beliefs too. Always believing you're the victim in a scenario (say you're a proshipper thinking you're up against a wave of antis) can often make you believe that any action you take is justified which can lead to you harassing and abusing people and claiming youre defending yourself before theyve harmed you. As long as you feel you're being harassed, as proshippers often claim they do over anything that disagrees with their views, its fine for you to attack. Proshippers can be just as abusive online as much as anyone can.
#i made that post in reaction to stumbling across a blog who said something similar to#criticising fandoms at all including over misogyny is misogynistic bc women are in fandoms#like lets be for real here#sorry if any of this sounded aggressive it wasnt intended that way and thank you for a polite ask#at least you and me can be nuance enjoyers

This is kindof random but this is a thought ive had for a long time and I wanna share it
Why the fuck are there four hogwarts houses when two of them are blatantly irrelevant and the third one only exists to provide generic ass bully characters
When I was like 11 or 10 I watched the second or third harry potter movie with my class at school and it inspired to come up with a fantasy school story of my own. (Now the actual worldbuilding was more based on Winx Club and The School of Good and Evil which were basically the only other fantasy school stories i knew and liked at the time but whatever)
So i dreamt up my cool magic school and i did a house system just like in Harry Potter except there were only two: The Good One for all my typical goody two shoes protags and The Evim One for all my way more interesting edgy side characters that would inevitably join the main cast
Thats literally all you need. She shouldve made a fucking House of Light Magic and then a House of Dark Magic, thats way less nonsensical and pointless and I feel like its the way more obvious for a kids book (and dont give me that "oh shes british thats what the schools there are like" shit, only weird private british bording schools are like that and Im pretty sure those are expensive as hell and if I remember correctly JKRs family was never really well off so)
I was gonna end the post there but I gotta ramble abt something more personal as well
The reason i know abt JKs family being poor probably is that I was in a writing club/workshop type thing last in 2021 and during one of our biweekly meetings we just watched a documentary about her and all i took away from it was that JKR is so unimaginative of a writer that she could only come up with the concept of evil creatures that suck all the happiness out of you until you want to kill yourself after she experienced depression herself and like, not to brag but I actually came up with that exact same concept when I was like 8 and barely aware of both Harry Potter and what it meant to be unhappy
Am I saying that Im a better writer than Joanne K Rowling? Not when I was 8, but for sure now. Like, ive watched and read a shitton of Harry Potter reviews that include passages of her writing and its all just bad or mediocre and theres so much of it to the point where im like, ohhhhhhh i see why she got rejected from publishers 12 times. Do i realize that bad writing tends to get included in reviews more often because its fun to mock, thereby skewing my perception of her writing? Yes. Im still very confident Im better though. If you put me up against JK and went "both of you have a week to write a short story from scratch, any topic, any length" I would eviscerate that old woman until she starts crying and calling me transphobic slurs for sure

I mean. We also have access to essentially infinite literature and information and textbooks and videos and articles, inundated with 'content', and we've had to become discerning about what we spend our time on. Its an essential skill now, to know something is false or unimportant or not engaging and to move onto something else.
Plus, idk, maybe The Classics are continually moving further and further away from our reality, social norms we can even understand, lives that are hard to imagine, language difficult to parse.
Like yes if youre doing a study on Austen you need to become familiar with her work. Struggling to read multiple difficult books isnt the same thing as not being able to have a complex discussion about a text or group of texts, however.
Im sorry this is just kinda old man yells at cloud and its nothing new. People are always bemoaning the Kids These Days have less attention span and want more instant gratification and cant sit still and dont want to work and dont do their homework and only read or engage with low brow popular easy media. 1. People have been saying this forever. 2. If it is an actual change, which I would believe given like, vine and then tiktok and how short videos are getring that peoples attention span is shortening. But complaining about hiw the youths these days are the downfall of literact in the west or whatever (this is hyperbole, I know nobody here said that) just idnt helpful and isnt going to change anything.
Sounds like professors have been teaching the same for decades and their old class plans and reading lists arent working anymore so its time to adapt and work out how to teach the same thinking and analysis skills through texts that the students can actually engage with. We can also bemoan that we're not learning the classics in greek and latin anymore and no one these days knows how to use an abacus or clean a slate. Those are interesting things to know but theres reason we've moved on from that. Is education really supposed to stay the same forever while the world is changing at lightning speed around us?
Ppl on the other hellsite losing their minds over this in every imaginable direction lmao
#its different kinds of literacy#can the professors navigate scam tiktok ads and the like do they have skills for navigating the sheer volume of information#are they fluent in like. meme culture. totally different kind of cultural literacy.#im assuming everyonr here is in good faith etc.#whatever#comment

Following on from the @mosswolf anon, how do YOU find such interesting things to read? :)
oh boy
okay i think for nonfiction/academic works i have the most straightforward answer which is that the starting point is usually a direct recommendation from a professor, or just directly from a syllabus, but then anytime theres a citation i find intriguing, i mark it down and at the end i check to bibliography to find whatever jumps out at me as relevant to my interests!
from here on it gets rambly. for fiction theres a multitude of strategies which boil down to developing trusted sources for finding works i know i'll like, and being willing to take some risks finding stuff outside of that:
(1) listening to friends' and family's gushing recommendations. i try to take into account our differing taste, tho many friends know my taste Very Well from my own gushing and will have very pointed and well selected recommendations. if i develop a particular craving for a type of story i'll ask around for recs
(2) i check out other works by the same authors of books i love to find anything else that looks up my alley. if i've read everything from them, i switch to looking at books that THEY like (thru their social media, or blog, or goodreads, what theyve given cover blurbs for, etc) [this is essentially the same advice as following the bibliography of nonfiction]
(3) i joined some book clubs, i've picked up stuff i never would have otherwise and even if it doesnt click i can still talk about why. this does the same thing to my brain that a literature class might except we're all peers, and you can freely admit you didnt finish the book and still be welcomed to the conversation
(4) just generally i'm willing to try things i havent heard of before if they look intriguing. i give it a fair shake (usually about 50 pages? adjust for the length of the book, or how i feel reading those pages), and then i let myself give up if i'm not feeling it. but giving it a fair shake is crucial! there are too many great and interesting books out there to read something that is boring or annoying me if i dont have a really good reason to stick it out, conversely there are too many good books i've never heard of to never take any risks
libraries are my ally in this, bc i can try a lot of things without committing to them, and i've gotten very experienced at navigating my system's catalogue to deliver books from affiliated libraries to Mine for pick up. libby is also great for ebooks. almost anytime i'm thinking about buying a book at full price, i check if its available thru my library in some way first
(5) when i go into a used bookstore i let the spirit of adventure carry me! i usually try to pick up at least one scifi or fantasy book written by a woman that i have not heard of before, ive had hits and misses but its always worth it to me
i've also recently started to buy self-published work by authors local to me, firstly to support amateur creativity, but also just to see if i like it (still developing my skills here tho...)
(6) if i'm at a bookstore and i'm unsure about wanting a book or not, i'll carry it around with me while i browse. i get a feel for it physically and if i really want to read it, genuinely works wonders on decision making. this can be sorta replicated shopping online by letting things sit in the Cart for a day or two before actually purchasing
FINALLY, after a few years of doing this, i've developed a really strong sense of my own taste(s). i know what to look for in which subgenres, by which authors and so on, which is a godsend in browsing bc i can just let my intuition carry me to victory
best of luck finding something interesting to read, anon!

Was ranting to emery about how the film the invitation (2022) was frustrating because it took a concept I genuinely enjoy and did nothing interesting with it. And in trying to explain why i felt this way, i have expanded upon my theory about why weirdos make good art.
And its like the theory is that if you insert your weirdest interests or fascinations into the art you make, you make good art. I was thinking about this after seeing eeao for the first time and thinking that the movie doesnt work despite the butt stuff it works because of the butt stuff. Its representative of art as an outpouring of your soul, even the unpleasant or strange parts of it.
With the invitation, i honestly cant say with confidence that it was intended to be a modern riff of Bluebeard but thats what it was whether it was on accident or not. And the thing is i love bluebeard. Its my favorite fairy tale because its dark and i can relate to the fact that its primarily about the anxiety of becoming an adult married woman, something that consistently terrified me as a kid.
Theres a ton of clumsy things about this movie's execution that i could complain about but what annoyed me the most is for a second in the middle of the movie i almost thought that the twist was going to be that the main character would ultimately embrace becoming a vampire. I think i got caught up on a red herring thinking it was foreshadowing, but the rest of the film felt so messy that again, idk if that was intentional or if i was misreading the actual intent.
Anyways, the movie ends with the most standard girlboss bullshit ever in which the heroine takes power for herself and uses it to win. And i was so annoyed because that meant every clumsy scene where the lead was making a confusing half assed attempt to relate to the serving staff was 100% intended as genuine, and not a statement about the weakness in the way people try to participate in solidarity culture.
And i really wanted it to be about exploring one's own personal dark desires, which could be both about jealousy for the lavish, comfortable lifestyles of the ruling class AND about the fantasy of romantic and sexual desire for something monstrous and dangerous (ala romance novels about werewolves and vampires and shit)
And it made me realize that like, the problem with this movie, and so many other movies and shows and ESPECIALLY books is that so much media is made for the express purpose of marketability. And of course that isnt new, its the reason so many media monopoly company's movies suck ass, but. Its like if bad movies are about ~feminism girl bosses because people will give us money because those are trendy right now~, then conversely, good movies are about whatever the fuck the creator's weird fetish is. SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE you cant mass market a movie on whatever this incredibly specific fetish is. Nobody writes movies with butt plug ninja fights in them because it will make people give executives their money. People make art about these things because its what they are genuinely passionate about and they want to make art about it. And the end result is that there are a lot of amazing movies, shows, books, ect about incredibly weird and niche shit because its one of the few ways people make media based art for the sake of art, and not just to make money.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk

i know that the purpose of reading those assigned books w troubling topics or themes is not to like the characters or protagonists but im still bitter about being forced to read those books to pass a class lol
#toy txt post#1984...sucked. sorry i couldnt focus on any of these important themes yku wanna talk about bc its written from the perspective#of a fucking incel and im too distracted by being skeeved out about how some men see women? i know there have to be books out there that#can cover these complex themes and talk about them without like. the lasting imprint i got from the actual book is just#skeevy incel tries to have sex with a woman under a puritan authoritarian regime or whatever#i snapped in senior yr when i had to read into the wild and all the questions i had to answer for class abt the book where like#'what would you do if you were in his position?' and it just broke me so i went off about how i wouldnt BE in his position bc at no point#would i make the long list of shitty decisions he made that got him to his position! im sorry! i cannot put myself into this narrative bc i#think every single god damn decision he made was stupid from the very start and i Cannot understand. i cant. i dont get it.#i would not do it i simply wouldnt burn my cash in the middle of the desert bc my car broke down i dont know what to tell you#its not like he was forced into making the decisions he did by his circumstances. he had so many opportunities presented to him due to#wealth and privilege and i can understand him being disillusioned with society but thats as far as my understanding goes. i am never going#to willingly by choice end up choosing to go fuck off to live in the alaskan wilderness unless a lot of things change radically very quickly#that literally force me into it.#macbeth was fine. whatever. the things they carried....bro i read the whole thing and i dont know what it was trying to say#was it trying to say that everything fucking sucked? cos thats all i got. it was literally just like heres some fucked up scenarios.#the things they carried honestly just feels like wow fucked up if true. what else am i suppised to get from that?#the us govt bad for sending soldiers over there. us govt mistreats its soldiers. vietnam war was a mistake. some of these soldiers are#fucked up shitty ppl that explode puppies. theres a field of Shit for some reason. what do you want me to get from this. it sucked. okay i#believe you can i be done with this now? no? no i have to draw one of these dudes? okay fine#maybe we can find other complex stories to use in class that arent so painful#all of them remind me of the time i read ben carsons biography in order to get access to the last 2 twilight books in middle school.#back when reading was beyond easy#also i dont remember ever really talking about the rape culture of 1984 i think my teacher wanted to kinda uncomfortably gloss over and#ignore it.#idk maybe this is just me having issues w the school system and hating specific books#maybe im one of those tumblr dummies w no reading comprehension or smth who just Didnt Get it. i dont think into the wild should be banned#or burned i just dont think it should be Required Reading.#things i remember of 1984: the way the main char talks about how titillating some woman is but also how hideous and gross she is with her#heavy makeup and how hideous she is specifically bc he wants to fuck her but he cannot. things i dont remember: important themes

ah an excuse to yap about leona ehehheheh
bro is just the smartest most cunning and intelligent guy ever. like yeah hes hot and strong but we NEED to talk more about just how much of a strategical GENIUS this man is. he knows just how strong and skilled he is which means in any situation he can immediately judge whoever hes up against and instantly know just how much strength and power to use to win. like he knew in book 6 the second he wasnt gonna win against the styx ppl and knew when to back down but every other situation he knows just how much power to use to win which they like confirm in book 6 he uses just enough to win and never more because he can perfectly judge a situation and like ik on the surface what most people notice about leona is how strong and powerful he is and i mean yeah hes like one of THE strongest people in nrc (in my personal opinion second only to malleus in magic but still more physically strong and more strategic than him) BUT WE NEVER TALK ENOUGH ABOUT THE CUNNING GENIUS THIS MAN IS he is so aware all the time and always knows exactly whats going on, so many events and chapters hes always mentally 5 steps ahead and knows whats going on well before anyone else. i cant remember the exact example but like in the halloween event from this year or smthn he like had a total understanding of the situation long before anyone else cuz hes just so smart and like hes smart like book smart but more importantly hes just aware in ways no one else really is. and about him being book smart i fully believe leona would have some of the highest grades in nrc if he applied himself. the few times he does he does like better than everyone else AND THATS W HIM SKIPPING CLASS SO MUCH imagine if he actually tried and went to class hed 100% have the best grade this man is so intelligent he just sees no reason to go to class because it is frankly useless to him he already knows all that stuff which is why he skips he already knows it so whats the point. like everyone sees leona as lazy but the stuff leonas lazy about is stuff that theres no point to try because he already knows hes better than everyone and thats his thing he doesnt need anyone elses approval he knows where he stands and feels no need to prove his worth to anyone else and i think thats actually so admirable. like for how much we say his low effort is depression (which it deff in part is) its also definitely him not feeling the need to prove himself to anyone because he knows how great he is and doesnt care if anyone thinks other wise because he knows theyre wrong so who cares. and i know he has a big ego but like.. HE CAN BACK IT UP. his ego is all from his own skill and talent this man NEVER claims something he cant back up which its like... ur ego is annoying but whats more annoying is theres valid reasoning behind it because HE JUST IS THAT GREAT
ok now to get into more headcannon territory because i can. ahem.
so i fully believe if leona had a significant other hed do everything to give them anything they could want. a lot of fics i read paint leona as this guy who wont really do something for his partner, or will just make someone else do it, and while in some cases i do believe hed deff like make ruggie go grab something or smthn i also believe hed want to take care of his partner. like sometimes its difficult to take care of yourself, but oh so easy to take care of someone else because its not you. and i fully believe this would apply to leona. if he has something, and its his he 100% takes care of it. he will put in the effort for someone else. he wont put in the effort for himself but for his partner? in a heartbeat. like even somethin small and typically annoying to do the only complaints youd hear are joking ones while hes already doing whatever you asked. and he also deff knows what to do for his partner before even they know. like i said before this man is canonically sooooo aware and that would deff hold up in a relationship. rarely have to ask for anything because hes already guessed what you want and is on it. also a lot of time i see people saying leona would want to brag about their partner and while i think this is true to an extent i also feel like hed want to keep his partner all to himself. something for just him that no one else needs to know about, or have their own opinions, or make their own comments.
ok i think im done yapping for now.

i mean part of the reason why arcane is as good as it is, besides the stunning visuals, is because it was in development for 6 years. they had six years to go back and forth on the look, the style, the story the story the story. 6 fucking years. that requires patience. that requires cooperation from all writers and directors. that requires seeing the culture change and responding in kind to reflect what people would like to see.
you notice how there's so many female characters, and while even though some of them are on thin ice a little (jinx/powder being that mentally unstable wide-eyed violent young woman/girl who doesn't really wear a lot) they've got beautiful stories that connect deeply with one another's without being centered on a man at all. look at vi's body shape. look at the range of body shapes for female characters, the range of faces. even how they walk (I love Vi's walk). you have a the tale of two cities, political depth and manipulation, meaning displayed in the way character's dress, stand, walk, how they're designed, what their hobbies and interests are, etc. all these things that would take time to figure out. that's partly why arcane is so good. they had time.
anyone who's been following me for a while knows where this is going. im sorry but the reason so many star wars shows falls flat for me is because these stories do not have the time to develop. i see development in the singular. one year here. one year for another show. maybe the concept existed for a while (with DF and GL, it seems they always have concepts that exist for a long time) but because they're concepts and because they basically go in the freezer until they're needed again, they don't really have the time to develop both deliberately and organically. the misbalance of the book of boba fett. whatever is happening with the mandalorian. the general mess that is the bad batch.
arcane is fundamentally a show about politics. you can't have a council, and oppressed class, the rich/poor divide, and all the ways that the class divisions have affected people (vi's incareceration, silco's manipulations, the lack of children in the undercity, viktor's disability) and not have the show be about politics. the writers understood this.
in the bad batch, a show about that takes place during the post-war rise of a fascist regime that has just speedily and aggressively replaced not only an entire republic, but also succesfully committed genocide and now spreads its terror throughout an entire galaxy, hunter, a soldier, says he and his team never cared about politics.
and indeed, theres a clunky way that the bad batch handles the inherently political existence of the clones, the empire, etc. politics should be permeating the interactions that the batch has with greater galactic society, but instead they relegate political discussion to specific episodes or scenes, and then say "okay we'll focus on that later, let's get back to X and Y". the extrajudicial execution of civilians is a political act. running from the empire is a political act. joining the empire is political. having one episode and a handful of scenes dedicated to the political side of their lives doesn't cut it.
its probably because i majored in political science that this is bugging me as much as it is. i know ive moved very far away from the thesis of this post, but bear with me lol. figuring out the political structure of a world and how it affects the characters within that world is hard. like. its not easy. it's not as simple as making a government and slapping a few laws onto it (and notice how even in the well-done political fantasies, there rarely is a government structure that hasn't already been seen in the west specifically). arcane's works as seamlessly as it does because they took the time to figure that out WHILE being aware that there would be large swaths of the audience that know nothing about league of legends (me, all my friends, etc).
people who wanted to watch the bad batch asked if they needed to have seen tcw or any other part of star wars to watch it. most bad batch fans said no. ive seen the bad batch and even i would tentatively say no. but then you watch the series, and nearly every episode has a cameo that you can tell is significant story wise, but if you've never seen tcw and have no idea who anyone is, you'd be really confused as to why everything grinds to a halt to dramatically reveal a character you've never seen before. and then they take two episodes to focus on the development of a character from another series. anyone watching can tell that they're filling in gaps and closing arcs or opening stories for people you will never see again. the bad batch wasn't written with non-star wars fans in mind, as much as people would like to insist otherwise. the main characters want to be apolitical in a politically tumultuous time, while living politicized lives. the political world is not set up very well.
(although i dont know that the "Right" amount of development would have changed much. DF and GL seemed dead set on having their little Trope Troupe, so they may have been doomed from the beginning)
so i know ive contradicted myself in some ways. if the bad batch had time they'd be better but also they've existed for a while and they're still bad and also theyve been doomed from the start. i think all of these are true. conceptually, as characters, doomed from the start--but at least an inch of thought and consideration for the current sociopolitical climate would have undoomed them at least a little. worldbuilding, not doomed from the start but the writers definitely needed more time to consider all their options and write a clear beginning, middle, and end to bridge through, if That Interview with Rau and Corbett signifies anything.
its time and its intent, and arcane takes the cake
#ch posts#under a cut because this got LONG#star wars#arcane#just like. hhhhhh i know that given the tools and time#and given to writers who arent racist#tbb could actually be good but its not#waste of animation!#arcane beloved im holding you so so so close

so uh,,,,this ended up being alot softer then i was expecting LMAO.
Bully!eren x reader
Cw: not alot, some smut at the end. Tame for me but i was in my FEELINGS okay.
Word count: 2.3k
The familiar sleek black of erens benz pulls up to the side of your house as you walk home from a late night trip to the grocery store, pints of ben & jerrys ice cream in the bags, as well as several other snack items one might munch on to cram for an exam, which is what you planned on doing.
You side step more onto the sidewalk when he pulls up beside you, still driving just slow enough to match your pace. He rolls down the window, jerking his head, “Just the girl i wanted to see,” he drawls hooking his arm out his window to lean out a little, he grins, “its fate”
You scrunch your nose up and scoff “Stalking is another word for it, jaeger”. You look him over suspiciously, “you wanted to see me?”
He rolls his eyes. He’s wearing aviator sunglasses, pushed up his forehead. Loitering in front of your house like this, you’re aware of how different the worlds you live in are. Everything about eren is expensive, from his car to his sunglasses to his clothes, even the way he smells, the cologne he wears, all tells how important he is. Meanwhile here you are in your oversized hoodie and leggings, hands full of stuff you’d bought from the convenience store, prepared to spend your night busting your ass to even stay in the college you had to claw your way to get into, wherein he had gotten in without even trying. You’re not self conscious, at least not usually. You’d never yearned to be apart of erens world too terribly, and it was eren who always sought you out, not the other way around, when there was plenty of rich girls right up his alley and status that would be glad to be with him and yet here he was at 11pm at night. You try to push down the way your heart flutters at that fact.
“Uh huh. Get in the car, bambi, m’taking you somewhere” his teeth are a flash of white against the night, promising trouble, as always. Your grip on your bags tightens, as does your heart in your chest. You glance away, “i have to study”
“Study?”
Your brows pinch together and you hold up your bags “Not that you’d care, jaeger, but some of us have to actually study to achieve our goals. I can't entertain you tonight, im busy”
Eren doesn’t look put out in the slightest, glancing down at your bags with casual disinterest“You dont need to study”. And then he looks up at you and meets your eyes, your breath catching, they look closer to the shade of seaglass today. “You’re smarter than anyone i know, ___, and i know alot of people. Whatever you want to pass? You’re already there. Just come with me, please”
Your eyes widen and your heart spasms in your chest, caught off guard by the raw honesty in his voice. He has moments like this, where he usually teases you and gets under your skin but sometimes he says something that makes everything in you jolt. Its not fair. Its confusing and it messes with your head, makes it fuzzy, weakens you and makes you do things you’d never do with a clear mind.
You wish you could fight it, wish you could roll your eyes and tell him no and do what you need to do. But you don’t. Huffing you say, “Ugh, fine. Just let me put this stuff up, my ice creams probably already a puddle by now” you turn and rush up to your house, ears burning when you hear him call out, “Thatta girl!”
You try not to put everything away to hastily, thinking he ought to squirm just a little, but even you can’t deny the eager buzzing under your skin. When you clamber into the passenger seat of his car eren turns to grin at you as he flicks his sunglasses back over his eyes. “Knew you’d see reason, bambi”. You roll your eyes at the nickname, crossing your arms over your chest as you side eye him warily, “where are you taking me jaeger, is this a kidnapping?”
“Not a kidnapping when you want it, sweetheart”, eren says, putting his arm around the back of your seat as he backs up his car to make a uturn. You dont know if the flustered leap in your chest is from the petname or the way his forearm looks flexing, the cords in his neck prominent as he looks behind him for any oncoming cars. “Just trust me, yeah? You’ll like it”
You sink in the seat, trying to get away from the warm heat of his arm so close to you, but hes taking it away soon enough, only to draw your attention again to the way his hands look steering the wheel. His hands….You turn to look out the window, opting for silence, because you feel like you’re about to lose your mind. This car is just so..him and its overwhelming your senses. It smells good, it smells like him, his cologne wafting all around you. The sleek interior of his car is crisp, clean, sharp, and just so richboy it feels surreal. You haven’t been in his car before.
Eren seems okay with the silence though, tapping his finger idly against the wheel as soft music plays from the radio. Its strangely peaceful, actually. Before you know it, the whirring of houses and neighborhoods and highway turns into palm trees and sand. You sit up straighter, coming out of your daze when you realize eren is pulling his car into the sandy bank by a large body of water. The beach. You haven’t had a chance to go here.
The water looks like black at this time of night, there are no waves, just sparkling dark abyss that stretches out for ages and ages, glittering under the moonlight. There are no other cars parked close to you so its just you, eren, and the sea.
You spend quite awhile gawking at the ocean before you come to your senses and turn to face eren. He has his elbow propped on the wheel, chewing idly on his thumb as he peers at you from over his sunglasses. A small smile is playing at his lips as he watches you.
You gape, “What…”
“You’re cute when you’re excited, you know” his voice is low, dropped in that way that makes your toes curl in your shoes. You ignore the way your heart skips at his words, probing him, “Why did you bring me here, ren?”
He turns to face forward, flipping the radio off so theres no background noise between the two of you. Taking his sunglasses off the folds them and puts them on the dash, sighing as he watches the ocean from out the windshield, gnawing on his lips. Tap, tap, tap, his fingers on the wheel go as you wait for him to speak. “Last week,” he starts, glancing at you, “When we had to do those presentations in class about places we feel at home..you talked about the library”
He laughs under his breath like its some kind of endearing joke, shaking his head a little. You dont speak. “The library is where i first saw you, you know? I mean, before all this, before i..talked to you, i noticed you before you ever noticed me.” A small secret smile plays on his lips, “You were reading ‘percy jackson and the lightning thief’, and you haid your hair in pigtails. Your glasses were way to big your face. My first thought was ‘wow she looks like an owl’, but then i saw you laugh at something on the page and my second thought was ‘i want to know her’. We were in middle school.”
Green eyes connect with yours, “You still go there, i know. But anyway..this is. My place, i guess”. He purses his lips “i figure since i'm always intruding on your little sanctuary , i’d let you see mine”
You take everything he just said in. He’d known about you, noticed you, since middle school? You hadn’t acknowledged him until sophomore year of highschool, hadn’t spoken to him since senior year, when this tug and pull had first begun between you two. You remembered that day, your mother wouldn't buy you the series so you’d relied on constantly re-reading the books at the library. It was around that time you began to see that place as something special, too. Tucked away from the world, you could lose yourself in another's story. It was like magic. And to realize eren had been there the whole time, had glimpsed that, realized that the library was your special place, that he’d even payed attention to your presentation in class at all in the first place...that he was here, showing you something of himself in return, even though you’d never asked. You’d wondered of course.
Eren was an enigma, he was on most days, the bane of your existence. He had made your life a living hell on many occasions, but with that, he also made you feel more alive than ever before. He’d dragged you out of your bubble and challenged you to see the world beyond school and books and fiction, he raised your emotions and forced you to experience everything head on. Anger, confusion, happiness, anxiety, thrill, lust and…
You look at him. The way the moonlight curls into the car like a kind of mist, making his eyes look absolutely beautiful. The soft wave to his brown hair, his eyelashes, everything about him made you ache with desire. All the time, even when you swore you hated him, you wanted him.
“Kiss me”. Its whispered out so low, for a moment you worry he might not hear it. Its the first time you’ve asked for him, reached for him first without his taunting to guide a confession from you. With this request, filling the air between you, you’re making it known that you want him, want this. It doesn’t change anything and yet it somehow changes everything. You can’t look in the mirror and tell yourself he doesn’t occupy your mind and your heart anymore. Not after this.
Eren seems to realize this too, his intake of breath letting you know he heard you loud and clear. “__..” he says, inching closer. His eyes, dark now, are so very hungry as he closes in. In a moment his lips, soft, so soft, are on yours. You sigh into his kiss, opening for him easily when his tongue glides into your mouth. His hand comes up to cup your jaw, tenderly, thumb stroking it. God, you want to eat him, you want him to eat you. The wet smack of your lips fills the car as you hungrily nip, and suck, and kiss at each others lips.
When eren pulls back, he’s panting, hair disheveled. You don’t remember when your hands first sunk into his hair, but they must have, messed up as it is now. He looks at you like he wants to devour you, he licks his lips. “I’m gonna put your seat back,” he tells you slowly, each word dripping with finality, “im going to kiss every inch of your body and then you’re opening those legs for me and letting me inside, baby”
You don’t have it in you to act scandalised, you know what you want. You’d basically asked for it. You just nod, never taking your eyes off his face when he reaches down and pulls the lever. And then you feel yourself being tilted backwards as the seat goes back, laying you flat. Your chest heaves with barely contained need as eren then settles above you, every clothed inch of him hovering just barely above you.
Holding your eyes, eren lowers himself. You spread your legs easily to accommodate him, gasping when you feel his clothed cock settle right against your clit through your leggings. He rocks once, gently, against you, his hair hanging over his forehead as he looks down at you with utter want in his eyes, “Want you to feel me”, he murmurs, and rocks again, “Wanna fill you up so good, you can’t ever pretend that im not apart of you. Because, this, baby?” Another rock, a shuddered moan leaving your lips, “This is it. No ones gonna fuck you like i do, no ones gonna get inside that little head and play the games we play so well together.”
One of his hands trails up your thigh, dipping his hand under the fabric of your leggings and pulling them slightly down, he pecks your lips, once, twice, three times. “Tell me”, he groans into your mouth, peeling your clothes off you slowly, “Tell me you understand, Tell me this is everything”
And you tell him. Tell him through your whimpers when he parts the folds of your slick cunt with his fingers buried inside you. Tell him through your moans into his mouth when he shoves his jeans down and splits you open on his cock. Tell him through sighs of his name, when he rocks into you, licking into your mouth as he spears you open. Tell him through the way you claw your fingers down his back when starts to fuck you hard, rocking the car with the force of his thrusts. Tell him through the way you spread your legs, even wider, toes curling as he wrings orgasm after orgasm out of your tight little pussy milking him.
“Its everything, you’re everything…” You cry out again and again, clutching onto him as he pumps you full of his cum, groaning brokenly into your neck.
“Fuck”. He pulls back to look down at you, brushing your damp hair back from your face, still inside you. “You’re gonna fucking kill me, you little nerd”

let me set the scene for you.
imagine youre in high school again. someone brings up a rumour about the leader of your country, whatever that position is called for you. you laugh, maybe tell a friend, and you move on bc thats literally what 15 year olds in society do, you make fun of removed rich priveleged politicians and move on. and then 5 years later, as you try to heal from your traumatic past and apologize, this group of kids not only refuse to forgive but actually actively antagonize you, not over you being a dick and telling the kid of the leader, but just because you, A TEENAGER IN SCHOOL, TALKED ABOUT A RUMOUR THAT EVERY OTHER PERSON IN YOUR SOCIETY WAS TALKING ABOUT.
AND YET SOME PEOPLE EXPECT ME TO GIVE A FLYING FUCK THAT ALASTAIR SPREAD THE RUMOUR?????????????
like imagine you make a joke about donald trump cheating on his wife and 5 years later barron trumps cousin threatens to throw you in the mississippi river this is genuinely whats happening in this series. there is a genuine plot point centering on making a traumatized bullied child a villain for SPREADING A RUMOUR ABOUT FUCKING POLITICIANS IN SCHOOL THAT HE DIDNT EVEN START AM I GETTING MY POINT ACROSS HERE?
remember in shadowhunter society, charlotte and gideon and co. are all from old rich families who’ve held extensive power for years, they control a LOT of their society and keep to themselves, i wouldnt be surprised if there are like,,, middle and lower class equivalent shadowhunters who HATE these families. politicians get slandered all the time charlotte and gideon aren’t special or exempt its ridiculous to think that they wouldnt be talked about and theres no special reason why alastair wouldnt have been one of EVERYONE spreading the rumour, he doesnt know these people why should i expect him to care
yes alastair was an asshole for telling matthew the way he did (even if it was in response to matthew telling him his hair is ugly and his family hates him, alastair had his reasons to say it, but it was still cruel and we dont make excuses here, both boys were in the wrong) but the thieves are mad at alastair for spreading the rumour. hell they dont even know he was the one who told matthew, theyre just that mad over him saying dumb shit. like sweeties i promise you, your parent’s careers arent in jeopardy bc a STUDENT talked about a rumour in school literally no one else cares, it’s a problem when people in power catch wind of rumours like this.
we only care about the rumour because we know these people personally. the only shadowhunter books to NOT mock government figures are these ones, because as a reader we are in the government system, we read through the pov of people whose families make up the clave. you know DAMN WELL if these books were from alastairs point of view with no TID and we went back to viewing the clave as cold and uncaring we’d be praising him for shitting on the government, like we have with every other main character. its normal for rumours to be spread about government figures, its normal for teenagers to gossip about things that at the end of the day are harmless to them, i know i dont lose any sleep worrying if my government officials are sad about the gossip that surrounds them, its to be expected in that position.
in conclusion i dont care about the rumour, alastair didnt personally slight charlotte or gideon, spreading rumours about random leader is normal and the one actually mean thing he did... well i’ve forgiven other characters for doing and saying a lot worse (looking at you lightwood “most hated men in london” brothers and will “tessa i only like you for your body” herondale)
#i’m praying this makes sense bc i’m genuinely so angry at how dumb this is#i’ve been sitting on this for weeks#chain of iron#chain of thorns#the last hours#tlh#chain of gold#the shadowhunter chronicles#alastair carstairs#tsc#the infernal devices#tid#charlotte fairchild#gideon lightwood#the merry thieves#thomas lightwood#christopher lightwood#james herondale#matthew fairchild#sdr hc#sdr essay

she never wants to assume the worst in regulus, she's never known him to be anything but sweet and gentle with her, she's never seen him as anything but her prince out of a fairytale book but she also isn't totally naive the way everyone sees her as, she knows regulus isn't as perfect as she dreams him to be because theres no such thing as being so. she knows it's not impossible for at least some do the rumors to be true but it makes her sad to think he was put in such a position at a young age.
bee remembers when cedric casually brought up the silly rumor during dinner with her parents, bee quickly telling her brother it wasn't true because regulus wasn't cruel and wouldn't hurt people but it was then her mother chimed in letting her know that it wouldn't have been his fault if it were true, his parents were so wrapped up into their own selfishness that they'd disown their own son because of it so yhere was very litrke way for poor regulus to stand a chance and that they should be weary of everything they hear from the other kids anyway. it made bee wonder if her mother was right, that even if regulus could be what they say that it wasn't his fault and he was simply a victim. it makes her angry to think that, if what she's about to tell her is then it's the fault of fucked up ideals forced onto children.
"I trust you reggie, I know that whatever it is it's...its not your fault." she says with a smile kind of sad as she looks back at him. his words are sweet but in a way that's almost sexy, so low as he's apologizing and telling when he's suffered from not getting to have her as if anyone has stopped him but himself. it makes her smirk a little though, cause at least she wasn't the only one looking like a fool. "you know I shouldn't, I used some of my best seduction skills in you and you rejected me..." she says teasingly but almost out of breath as he begins kissing her, lower and lower until blue eyes flutter. "but maybe if you can kiss me like this a little more I'll consider it " she teases, biting down on her lower lip as she sighs.
she hates it almost in the same way that she loves it, bee couldn't stay upset or angry or even sad, she couldn't not want him and his touch when it was the best feeling in the world and knowing he actually might want her just made it so much better. he whispers again, nipping at her ear as she lets out a shaky sigh. "I want to give you everything reggie, my sweet prince." she moans. "you already had me I'm just waiting for you to figure it out." she purrs, holding him close as her fingers run through his hair a bit but then he pulls away, lacing their fingers together as he guides her to the slytherin common room.
it amazes her they got such a bad reputation when their common room had been so comfortable she almost liked it as much as her own. it was so beautiful. the waterfall by the steps and the beautiful skylight that shines down, it wasn't too bright nor was it too dark, just peaceful all around. she walks inside with regulus, taking his hand again as her eyes wonder around the space, it's empty as everyone was busy with their classes and theo was probably in the hospital wing getting that nose of his checked out. "I think this is our first time truly alone..." she smiles a bit. usually they have someone with them, probably for good reason because bee isn't so sure she could be in here alone with him without wanting him the way she does now. "I like being here with you too...you company has always been my favorite." she agrees as he guides her along.
heart skips a best when he asks her to join him in his bed, smiling shyly as she nods biting down on her lower lip again. "yeah..." she says warmly, squeezing his hand a bit. "like I said, regulus... anywhere."
she doesn't seem to believe that she has him, which makes him sad even though he understands. the way he acted last night didn't make sense... touching her the way he did, even under her skirt, only to ask her to stop when she wanted to touch him. but she doesn't know that he has the mark and it'll be dangerous for her to know about it, or even dangerous for him if she somehow decides she hates him. he doesn't think bee would ever tell anyone, but if she did, he wouldn't have time to return to the cave to swap out the horcrux with the fake he's been working on. he only knows of it because of kreacher, who was so badly wounded by the inferi that he almost died that night.
"would you forgive me if it was for a very good reason?" he asks gently, thumb tracing her cheek where her tears had fallen. "please forgive me... it was suffering enough not to have you last night. i'm very sorry i made you cry." his words are spoken softly, his other thumb wiping at the tears on her opposite cheek. "you are beautiful." he leans in, pressing a kiss to her cheek, and then another to her jaw. tilting his head, he plants the next kiss on her neck, his lips lingering there for a moment. "i'm so in love with you," he answers, kissing her skin a little lower. it doesn't feel too soon to say, because he's felt it for years now, even if he never had her.
he pulls back when her voice is serious, meeting her eyes again. "i'll tell you. but first..." he leans in again, teeth catching her earlobe to nibble it gently before pressing another kiss beneath. "please let me have you, because i can't wait another second." his hands rest on her hips, touching her as he kisses her neck again. after a moment, he slips one into her own, his fingers tangling with hers so he can hold her hand as they leave the potions dungeon. she assures him she'd follow him anywhere, which makes him flush. "then i'm lucky," he says, but privately his stomach is turning a little at the thought of baring his body and soul to her, because what if she stops wanting him when she sees what's on his arm?
he leads her a short ways to the slytherin common room, speaking the current password to allow the statued serpent to reveal the door. pushing it open to allow bee to go in first, he takes her hand again when they're walking down the stairs, past a moving set of armor and several tapestries. "i like taking you here when it's just us," he says softly. he also likes when bee hangs out with him, draco, astoria, blaise and the others. but there's something about getting to show her the common room alone, when it's just the two of them, that makes his heart race. it feels intimate, showing her his home like this. "would you join me in my bed?" he wants to do the spell there, after they pull his privacy curtains, to give them a place to talk without being heard.
