I decided to reread The Hunger Games trilogy and I gotta say this trend of absolutely hating Gale and calling him a war criminal and selfish is such a miss.
Gale is by no means a perfect person. But none of the characters are. They all do bad or questionable things. They’re literally in the middle of a war. Even before it’s officially a war.
Yes Gale was jealous of Peeta and Katniss. Yes, there were significantly more important things going on. Gale knew that, he acknowledged that. But end of the day he’s still a teenager with emotions. Just like Peeta and Katniss who both also describe being jealous of Gale - Madge - Joanna. They also know it’s dumb given all the danger and death surrounding them. But surprisingly people still have emotions like love and jealousy during wartime - including teenagers.
As for the war criminal comments that’s a whole long discussion but let’s remember this is a world in which the government has been slaughtering children for entertainment and forcing all the districts that send their kids to watch them be murdered for the entirety of the main trios lives and long before them - it is all they have ever known.
Additionally, year round the capital treats the citizens like slaves and makes them produce whatever is necessary for the capital and then let’s them live in squalor starving to death. This is how Gale grew up. He was the oldest of 4 kids. His dad died when he was a kid and he was responsible for taking care of his mom and all his siblings. He had his name in the bowl for the reaping probably more than almost any boy in 12.
He watched his district and the men women and children he knew his whole life be burned alive while he had to lead as many to safety as he could. He watched his best friend be shoved into the hunger games twice knowing not only that he might lose her forever but that he would have 2 more people to care for and soon he would be forced into the mines full time with little opportunity to hunt.
So when a war breaks out to finally stop the abuses and murders by the capital of course Gale jumps in. Of course he plans to kill. It’s a war. And it’s nice to try and be a pacifist and say give peace a chance but how can you say that to your oppressors and expect anything to change. There had to be a war and there had to be death. Gale fought in the front lines and was willing to die to save his family and free the districts. It’s curious we never hear anyone call Beetee a war criminal when he made more weapons than anyone. Almost like it’s not the fact the Gale made weapons during a war, but that it was Gale.

I hate with a burning passion the theory that the reaping bowl was rigged with Prim’s name. Like it ruins the entire point of the series. It doesn’t matter if you’re a sweet little 12 year old girl who’s name is only in their once, the odds are never in your favour.
Like, if it was deliberate that Prim was reaped, was Rue also picked on purpose? Neither of them held any immediate threat to the Capitol locked safely away in their districts, so what good does drawing them out do? (Obviously other than scaring the districts by killing their youngest but that isn’t specific to Rue and Prim that could be any 12 year old)
And also, there was no guarantee that Katniss would volunteer for Prim. If they really thought Katniss was such a big threat (She definitely wasn’t because other people also hunted outside the fence, why didn’t they ever reap Gale?) they would’ve just put her name in the bowl.
Anyway that’s the end of my little rant for this evening.

Long post. But I’m rereading parts of Mockingjay and had some thoughts.
When Katniss visits Peeta in Chapter 16, I find a few things interesting. First, Peeta makes direct statements but also asks Katniss a few questions (a little snappily but I’m sure he genuinely wants to know the answers). And the difference in what Peeta states as fact and what he asks Katniss says a lot about Peeta’s character, even hijacked. For one, Peeta directly states that he “must have loved [katniss] a lot.” He also shortly recalls the story of the bread being thrown. Again, he doesn’t ask katniss if these are true, he states these events as facts. Peeta is certain of these memories. He knows the bread story is true, and he knows that he once loved Katniss. The questions that Peeta does ask Katniss refers solely to Katniss’ romantic feelings. Peeta, even hijacked, does NOT presume to know Katniss’ stance on romance unlike some people (*cough cough* Gale MJ end of Chapter 23). Peeta might have hunches, but he doesn’t presume to know katniss’ feelings for fact. He directly asks Katniss if she loved him (“‘And did you love me?’“). Katniss does not directly answer Peeta. (“‘Everyone says I did.’”) And I actually find it a little humorous that during this entire conversation, Katniss is actually quicker to directly admit to trying to kill Peeta in the first arena than to directly admit any possible romantic feelings for Peeta (“‘I was trying to kill all of you,’ I say, ‘You had me treed.’”). Then, Peeta asks about all the kissing. He states, “‘Later, there’s a lot of kissing. Didn’t seem genuine on your part. Did you like kissing me?’” Again, even hijacked Peeta does not presume to know how katniss felt!! Even though he states that the kissing “didn’t seem genuine,” Peeta still asks her! And again, Katniss gives a half answer (“‘Sometimes,’ I admit, ‘you know people are watching us now?’”) Next, Peeta asks about her kissing Gale. Katniss, again, gives a snappy, half answer. (“‘He’s not a bad kisser either,’ I say shortly.”)
Basically, this entire conversation reveals a lot to me about both Peeta and Katniss. The overall thing being that it’s the perfect reminder to readers that KATNISS AND PEETA ARE STILL LITERAL TEENAGERS!
One, hijacked Peeta is still very much Peeta but with every insecurity, jealousy, and fear hanging off of him. Every question that Peeta asks Katniss are probably the exact questions that he has been secretly wondering since after the first games. You can’t tell me that Peeta Mellark, who knows Katniss is a horrible liar from the first book, did not wonder about that kiss on the beach, the day on the rooftop, or the time he caught katniss staring at his eyelashes. Peeta had previously buried those “maybe she does love me” thoughts for katniss’ sake. He buried his jealousy for Gale. So hijacked Peeta is basically Peeta without a filter (and the occasional irrational fear that makes him dangerous). And Peeta Mellark is a hurt teenage boy, and teenage romance is messy and hurtful.
And this conversation also perfectly sums up Katniss. Because Katniss, too, is just a confused teenager! I also think it’s so perfectly Katniss to admit to trying to kill someone rather than admit any possible romantic feelings. It also shows how much katniss values those secret feelings. In this chapter, katniss even internally states that people are watching her and Peeta and that “this isn’t the business of the people behind the glass.” Katniss hates her feelings being exploited. She tells Haymitch this in the first book during interview prep. Katniss even admits this later in MJ when Gale wrongly suggests that Katniss will pick the person she cannot survive without (MJ chapter 23). (“It’s a horrible thing for Gale to say, for Peeta not to refute. Especially when every emotion I have has been taken and exploited by the Capitol or the rebels.” MJ Chapter 24). Her half answers are very complex. Even without a room full of people looking in, questions like those would be hard to answer for anyone, especially for a traumatized teenage girl.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

The Hunger Games characters getting jealous
Includes: Katniss, Peeta, Gale, Finnick, Cato, Clove
Katniss Everdeen
Tumblr media
She’s more insecure than jealous
But if so…
She’d definetly give the person “the stare”
Katniss has a self-doubting kind of jealousy
She’s comparing herself with the other person in some ways
Katniss would indeed need a reassurance from you when the person is gone
Even though she wonn’t admit it
She would just try to bottle her feelings in very unhealthy way
She’ll 100% deny that she’s jealous
“I was not jealous Y/N, I just didn’t really like them”
Peeta Mellark
Tumblr media
Tries to act polite
He’s smart and rational enough not to throw hands
Peeta would be really uncomfortable
He is aware that you’re loyal to him, but he can’t help it
He hates being jealous
Peeta would walk up to your side and put his hand around your waist trying to give the person hint
Passive-agressive behaivor
He’d talk with you about it after the person left
Or he just wouldn’t want to “bother” you with it and would try to bottle it up
One of you would at the end bring it up at some point
“So.. you and them? Yeah, right. Sorry”
Gale Hawerthrone
Tumblr media
Gale is a very jealous person
He has some insecurities and gets all defensive with the person
Death stares
If the person would flirt with you, man would NOT let that slide
Gale can be rational, but if the person won’t drop it then he can and will throw hands
He’s bittter and snicker more during the interaction
Will deny for his entire life that he got jealous
He wouldn’t even try to cover his jealousy up when being near the person
He’s not gonna talk about it
Just kiss will be pretty much enough to reassure him
“I wasn’t jealous. They were flirting with you! It was enough of a reason for me to act that way!”
Finnick Odair
Tumblr media
Even though he doesn’t really have a reason to be jealous he indeed does get slightly at times
Finnick is the most famous guy in whole Capitol, but that doesn’t mean that jealousy can’t get the best of him
Just like Peeta he’d try to act polite
Really, he tries not to be jealous, but he can’t help it
Finnick, feels kinda dumb for being jealous ‘cause he trusts you
He isn’t one to really show it
He’s constantly just bottling it up inside of him
Finnick is prepared for being teased about it later by you, but he doesn’t really mind
Walks up to you and the person and puts his hand on your waist
If the person still wouldn’t get the hint he’d kiss your cheek and call you “love” or “sweetheart”
His sassy side kicks in while talking woth the person
Finnick would let you tease him about it later and he’d probably laugh it off
“Yeah, okay *chuckles* I get your point”
Cato Hadley
Tumblr media
Definetly the hard stare or some glances
Cato is the type of a person “punch first, ask second”
He isn’t really insecure, but it does bother him when other people are hitting on you
But if the person isn’t bothering you, he wouldn’t pick a fight with them
He’s more bitter and sassy towards the person
Cato doesn’t really shy away from PDA
So he’s not afraid to wrap his strong arms around you protectively or kiss you
He wants the person to get the hint
If the person is your friend he’d be much calmer ‘cause he doesn’t want to ruin yours and their friendship
Cato can and will flex just to prove the person that they ain’t good enough for you
If the person would dare to touch you in uncomfortable way, Cato would be quick to give them piece of their mind
He ain’t losing you to some jerk from a bar
Extremely affectionate with you during the interigation with the person
“Hey love, who’s that? I see… *hard stare at the person*”
Clove Kentwell
Tumblr media
Pretty much like Cate “punch first, ask second”
Clove definetly has some jealousy issues
She very quickly loses her cool when someone starts flirting with you
If you weren’t there, she’d most definetly punch the person
Agressively conforts them
She’s indeed intimidating when she wants to be so the person would probably back off
But if not, things could escalate to the point where she throws hands
You’re pretty much the only person who can calm her down at that point
Death stares
Clove isn’t really into PDA, but at that point she would put her arm around your shoulders or rest her hand on your waist
She doesn’t even hide her jealousy
Will deny her jealousy later at all cost
Clove will talk absolute shit about the person after they leave (unless it’s your friend)
Is very clingy afterwards
If it’s your friend, she’ll get slightly bitter with them, but would calm down
After all, she doesn’t wanna ruin your and the person’s friendship
She’ll start playing with her knifes next to you only to intimidate the person silently
“Hey dickhead! Y/N has a girlfriend!”

any completed everlark workplace au? please 🥺 and thank you!
Hello Anon!
Below is a masterlist for co-worker aus! I've added this topic to a list for future masterlists! Hopefully these are new to you-happy reading!
After Hours-SoThere (ao3) Summary: An unexpected late-night text from her co-worker makes Katniss reflect on her relationships and reassess her definition of happiness. Everlark Modern AU Brighter Than Angels-sohypothetically (ff) Summary: Katniss Everdeen has a quiet life as a Phys. Ed. teacher. She volunteers to chaperone Fairfield Junior High's ninth grade trip to Washington D.C. and ends up finding an unexpected ally in Home Ec. teacher Peeta Mellark. Will sparks fly between the pair? An Everlark A/U But You Wear It so Well-Abagail_Snow (ao3) Summary: Katniss Everdeen has never been a fan of Peeta Mellark, but when she’s called into work on her day off, she gets to know him better than she ever imagined through an “innocent” game of Truth or Dare? Modern Day Don't Talk To Me-hutchabelle (ao3) Summary: Katniss Everdeen hates people. Well, that’s not exactly true, but she doesn’t exactly like them either. They’re too…human or whatever. Too many acquaintances. The last thing she wants to do is get close to any of them, especially after the events of the past few months. She’s barely holding it together as it is, and introducing people or, even worse, friends could tip her right over the edge. She values her sanity. That’s probably why the new, sweet, disgustingly optimistic, overly friendly hire at the coffee shop where Katniss works irritates her so much. He’s just so nauseatingly earnest. It makes her want to punch him in the face. Employee Training-Abagail_Snow (ao3) Summary: During orientation for a new job, Katniss learns to lighten up with another new hire. F.M.K.-c_r_roberts (ao3) Summary: A modern AU one shot in which Peeta and Katniss are co-workers. Until an after-work happy hour and a silly little game changes that dynamic. Holidate Me-JHsgf82 (ao3) Summary: Lonely hearts Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark attend the office holiday party together as each other’s holidate. How will the night come to a close? Holiday Havoc Ensues-katnissdoesnotfollowback (ao3) Summary: Johanna and Finnick despise the holiday parties that their boss throws. This year, they've decided to throw a holiday party worthy of their coworkers. There will be music, dancing, games, creative insults, rebellion, food, and even a gift exchange. Hopefully there won't be any murder or arrests, but you never know what's going to happen when you pack this many victors into one house… Indulgence-SavvyLark (ao3) Summary: Katniss is dating healthnut Gale and has adapted to his g-free, plant based ways. Unfortunately, her co-worker, carb loving Peeta has reminded her what she's been missing, and she's so hungry for him --er his food. Learn Your Song-ashyblondwaves (ao3) Summary: Modern Day AU: Katniss Everdeen had spent the last three years working at the only electronics and office supply store in District 12, and it was time once again to prepare for Christmas. The rapid changes always brought new sights, new sounds, and this year it brought Peeta Mellark — the new seasonal hire.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to shoot me an ask!

The thing is they’re all foils of each other, you’re supposed to see each of them in everyone, Katniss and Peeta and Gale (though nobody really cares about him, sorry dude) in Sejanus and Lucy Gray and Coryo. There’s Katniss in Lucy Gray’s singing and the mockingjays, in the curtsy, in their similar looks; in Sejanus’s ‘act first think later’ reaction, in the way they honor the dead and how they want to protect the innocent; in Coryo’s distrust of people’s motivations, the way he second guesses everything, in their survival being the first thing in their mind in dangerous situations, in their food insecurity, there’s a reason that Katniss says the two of them have always understood each other. There’s Sejanus in Gale’s righteous fury, the fire he has, the fierce morality, there’s Lucy Gray in his loyalty and honesty, there’s Coryo in the way he gets taken under the wing of a powerful and prominent adult (Dr Gaul for Coryo, Coin and Beetee for Gale) as a teenager, manipulated and offered power and used to create atrocities in the name of a greater good. You see Peeta and Lucy Gray paralleled as performers in a hunt, using their charm rather than physical ability; Sejanus shown in Peeta’s compassion for others and in the symbol of bread, given to save Katniss for starvation, sprinkled over the bodies of the dead tributes; you see Coryo in Peeta’s determination to save his girl, to get her out of the games, the way he manipulates a crowd for his own gain, in their blonde hair.
And the thing is it’s absolutely brilliant because it only furthers the notion that none of them are set in stone.
Peeta is unfailingly good, even though his survival is predominantly thanks to those manipulation tactics. He uses them to sway the opinions of those in power without them noticing it, he even makes THE CAPITOL hate the games prior to the Quarter Quell. In the beginning of Mockingjay he uses it to sway Capitol favor towards Katniss in case the rebellion fails, at this point he is not focused on what the ‘right thing’ to do is, he’s looking to keep her alive at any cost. Katniss frequently describes Peeta as ‘playing the game’ even when they arguably aren’t in the Games, he knows what he’s doing, yet we never doubt in his goodness. The ability to manipulate people like that is pretty much never seen as a positive trait in any form of media, but we never doubt him, not when we’ve witnessed his compassion, his empathy.
Gale and Sejanus are both fiercely for the rebel cause from the beginning, even when they have no chance, the idealist, tho one who doesn’t care whether they get hurt to do the right thing, the paragon of morality, the ideal hero type. And yet still, by the end of the series, we cannot describe Gale as good anymore, even if what he did was for the right reasons. The power of taking the typical type of main character and showing how their ideals can be used against them, how they can get too caught up in the cause and fail to see the consequences piling up is fantastic, because there’s a certain point before Snow becomes an absolutely irredeemable monster where the two have a lot of similarities in their arcs, even though personality wise they couldn’t be more different. Snow is a fantastic villain because, in the end that cognitive dissonance overpowers the part of him that has misgivings, he is entirely convinced he is doing the right thing no matter the cost, a path we see Gale head down in Mockingjay. We even start to see Gale considering the Capitol citizens, including children and other innocents who played no part as ‘other’ and inherently monstrous. Coin and others in 13 wanting to do a Capitol Hunger Games illustrates that point as well, the escalation of it, the end result, when a revolution ceases to be a revolution and simply becomes a change in oppressors, but Gale is integral to that point because he is the early stages of it. Coryo is in the early stages of it for a large portion of his book. Obviously the difference is that Snow has 65 years to become very comfortable with this in his fascism and increasingly monstrous tendencies, but it’s the same beginning stage, and it’s incredible how Collins shows that a revolutionary type can quickly become something bad if they aren’t careful.
For Katniss as the reluctant hero type to never really willingly step up to the role, only be strong armed into it, is brilliantly done. Most ‘chosen one’ types don’t want to be, but eventually they do take it up with some willingness, but the Hunger Games is above all about using children in immoral ways whether for ‘good’ reasons or bad. Katniss only chooses to be their hero in the face of direct threat to herself or her loved ones, but that doesn’t undermine her actions. Even though she is supposed to be their tool, she exercises her free will time and time again, she makes calls that she know place her and her loved ones in political danger with 13, she makes herself their symbol on her terms. For someone who’s first thought is how to keep herself and the people she cares about alive, this defiance means a lot, particularly because she doesn’t trust people, she genuinely isn’t sure if there is going to be someone in her corner standing up for her, protecting her from the consequences of her actions, and most of the time when there is someone she’s surprised. She fully expects the worst case scenario, the worst in others, but unlike Snow she doesn’t hesitate to offer the best of herself in spite of having everything to lose and nothing to gain. Even though she fully expects everyone to have an ulterior motive, everyone to be lying, she cannot help but be anything but genuine, anything but true to herself. She doesn’t necessarily believe in any inherent goodness in others, oftentimes the opposite, but she still offers kindness rather than violence and that is all the more powerful.
In the frame of the Hobbes/Locke duality that TBOSAS really leans into, Peeta believes in an essential goodness in people, Gale sees it as us versus them, with his side as naturally ‘good’ and the other side as inherently bad, but Katniss by default thinks of people as self serving, something she still struggles with in the epilogue, having to remind herself of evidence to the contrary, she is consistently fighting that idea, disproving it with every action, at every turn, which is much more powerful than her just seeing the world in a positive light.
The thing is Suzanne Collins has them all start out as kids, each with a personality type, Katniss most like Coryo, Gale most like Sejanus, and a melange of other characteristics and traits—Peeta and Coryo most similar in their way of dealing with people, for instance—and through the choices they make she shows that they’re not set in stone. That it’s not some inherent goodness or badness in them from birth, it’s not just the way they behave around their peers. Every choice they make, every situation out of their control sets each of them on a path. Time and time again Coryo is only protected or assisted by the corrupt adults around him, he’s shown that only a very specific type of person will protect him, and they will always have something in it for them, and they will not tolerate him being anything less than like them, and in the end he chooses to have security in his survival, to have control, over everything else, and he lets that warp him into an atrocious human being. He takes the easy way in life, in contrast to Katniss and her uphill battle for the goodness in human nature.
Collins didn’t even try to be subtle about it, it’s very deliberate in the book in the way that he narrates as Coriolanus through the entire thing, but narrates the final chapter as Snow. It’s as clear as a marker flag, the way she says, ‘this is him crossing the line of no return’. Your sympathy for him in the book doesn’t come from him being sexy or charismatic, because you’re in his head and he’s an absolute disaster honestly. His internal monologue is basically just panicked screaming. The urge to root for him comes from the fact that Collins introduces him to us as a scared teenager, a kid. He’s not necessarily a great person, but it’s not yet in a ‘set to become a fascist dictator way’ it’s just in the way that a great deal of seventeen year olds are. There were so many times in reading the book that I laughed a loud because he was SUCH a teenager in his reaction to things. There isn’t any point to having a book with a character who was poised to be evil from the start, the whole point is watching what he becomes, it’s ‘be careful how you treat the children of the world now, they grow up to run the world, and who they are is shaped by who is kind to them and who isn’t’. Casca Highbottom didn’t see Coriolanus Snow for who he was from the start, he saw an adult who had wronged people in a child and mistreated the child according to his beliefs, and in doing so opened the doors for that child to become exactly what he feared and worse.
The whole point is that they’re kids, the whole point of all four books, they were all just children to begin with, some more similar than others but they all ended up in completely different places and who they ended up with wasn’t the same as the people they had been most alike when they were young. The point is that you can’t look at a child and decide they are more or less likely to be the world’s next great monster just because of their personality traits or how they see the world or who they’re friends with. Children are blank slates for adults to write on, and then they have to take all that writing and make a book of who they are out of it someday, and they might be the ones to make that book in the end, but it matters what you write. It matters when you give them kindness, or when you hurt them, it matters when you leave them to fend for themselves too young, it matters when you give them everything they could ever want and teach them that it’s not precious to have things and that they should always get them and that others shouldn’t and that it’s nothing less than what they deserve, it matters whether you starve them, or you bomb them, because whatever they make of themselves they make with the words that you write on that slate, and even though they might be able to turn it into anything if they want to, it’s far easier to write a horror story with violence than it is to write a gentle poem.
So they are all meant to mirror each other, every one of them, to show different roads taken with circumstances similar and different.
To show you two blonde boys who could part seas with the way their words affect people, and ask you to look at them when they are five years old, or ten, or fifteen, nameless, without context, just pretty boys with prettier words in their mouths, and ask you: which one will be the monster?

the Alina debate going on reminds me of the Katniss debate even years later. there’s people that in this date and age think Gale was a better choice …..some people hate to see girls that went through imaginable levels of trauma find themselves a calm and quiet life with a man that brings them safety and peace.
These two cases are pretty similar and with THG renaissance on social media lately the discussions about this subject are getting wildly inaccurate and lacking media literacy.
Alina and Katniss are similar in how they were just kids that had to grow up in a mess up world and take care of themselves alone. They both were thrown into a role way bigger than them. Deemed as holy and untouchable. Prayed as the sole savior of a nation, painted as a symbol. A role they’ve never felt prepared for and during all of that trauma and grief they just hoped for some normalcy beyond that chaos. Mal and Peeta represent comfort and security for each of them but still the choice to seek that peace creates controversy. I saw this amazing post (X) about how thinking Gale and Katniss should’ve ended up together is simply incorrect and a terrible interpretation of what the books and movies are telling you and similarly goes with Alina’s ending being sadly misunderstood.
People don’t get that Gale became everything he was fighting against. The thing Katniss was trying to run from. In his search to destroy the Capitol and eradicate the games he became too blinded by hatred and started justifying all that violence with the idea of revenge. He would easily switch off his humanity to justify the means in which he achieved those goals. He would’ve never been able to provide Katniss with the peace, safety and the healing she was searching. Peeta and Katniss both understood the trauma lived in the games and ultimately wanted the same thing: peace, get a hold to their humanity, move on from the pain. I still cannot comprended how people think Peeta is “boring” because he is by far one of the most complex characters but also, doesn’t Katniss deserve a mundane or “boring” life? One that isn’t pledge by chaos and trials? One that feels like a routine in the most full-filling way? Katniss getting that plus allowing herself to have kids — because she never said she didn’t want kids, she just didn’t want them to exist in a world in which the games existed, and she fought so it won’t ever happen again. Katniss deserves to have a peaceful life instead of feeling the burden of a role she has to play.
THG is still one of the most complex trilogies I’ve ever read. Katniss and Peeta’s love story isn’t typical but it’s true in its essence. Both were thrown into circumstances that only them would be able to understand and managed to find peace within each other. Their love was born from being able to give each other mutual understanding and comfort. Katniss is able to share her real feelings with Peeta, who sees her as Katniss and not as the symbol of rebellion. That guy, a kid himself too, who’s been used as a weapon to torment Katniss would give his life for her in a heart beat. His love for her is pure.
For Alina, her powers while they made her feel powerful at times, they were also a burden. They made her feel lost, confused, scared of herself and suicidal. Alina’s powers didn’t develop normally because she wasn’t raised as a normal Grisha. There’s a reason why the amplifiers are called a fetter and a collar. They were never meant to be seem as a positive thing. Alina’s whole journey has been filled with trauma and with the imposition of a role she had to play that went against her own freedom. Her powers made her a pawn. The title of the savior, the sun summoner, the queen, the Saint; those all were titles she did not ask for and she found a tremendous burden to perform. She said it herself multiple times. She felt like a fraud and people worshipping her made her feel like she was bigger than herself. Alina would’ve never been able to achieve her peace if she still had those powers and therefore would’ve never been truly free. I’m sorry, no one will ever convince me that Alina making the choice to remove herself from a world that has brought her so much trauma in exchange for a peaceful, mundane life in which she’s able to provide orphan kids just like her the love and security she didn’t get for herself (or for Mal) is not empowering. Her choice IS empowerment.
Mal, who was also a kid himself, had to deal with trauma, with the idea of being disposable and insignificant in a world that only valued those with powers or status. He was used as a weapon against Alina so he swears himself to be a weapon for Alina, because ultimately she is the only person he’ll fight and give his life for.
A thing that it’s similar to Katniss and Alina is that people are so convinced they should’ve healed from their trauma alone to be deemed more empowering. Why should they not be in the company of someone that brings them peace? Someone that makes them feel loved and comforted? Women are allowed to have character developed while also being with a love interest. Not all women have to stick to Hollywood’s propaganda of empowerment.
If you don’t understand why Alina and Katniss endings and the fundamental nature of their choices being about healing, and for Alina about the promise that her power lies in herself, on her own value, then you simply didn’t get it.
And no one can convince me this wasn’t a good, bittersweet but fulfilling ending for Alina:

List of ships I’m still mad at (either for not happening or because of what happened to them) and why:
-Bellarke (The 100): listen. they had so much chemistry. the actors literally got married. for various reasons I did not like lexa that much. was I still mad that they killed her? Yes I was. And I think if we had more time with her I would have liked her more (and don’t get me wrong - I did like her!). But the storyline just rubbed me the wrong way a little bit.
-Rizzles (Rizzoli and Isles): again, chemistry. They were flirty and loved each other so much, that it could have easily have been transitioned to lovers. But I always got the vibe that angie harmon would have been unwilling to portray a woman in love with another woman and possibly had to kiss her (I’m not saying she’s homophobic, idk enough about her to say that, but that’s just the vibe I got). I think sasha alexander would have been more willing, but I could be wrong about that too, idk. Still, they were like the blueprint for queerbaiting for women, which doesn’t happen on tv that often. It was usually reserved for men, probably because people don’t see stories for women as compelling due to misogyny. And you know what, I was happy to be queerbaited because I know in my heart they ended up realizing they were in love after the show ended (I didn’t finish watching it but I know what happened and I am have no problem making my own shit up)
-Huddy (House M.D): don’t even talk to me about what they did to my girl cuddy. Shit gets me heated. I know lisa edelstein wanted off the show for contract reasons (at least I’m pretty sure) and I support her. However. They could have written her off the show ANY OTHER WAY THAN THE WAY THEY DID. It was a disservice to both House’s character and hers. No matter how he treated her, I truly believe house respected her, both as a person and as a doctor. And crashing his car through her home shit all over that. And I wouldn’t have minded if the relationship ended with both of them being bitter about it, because they both deserved to be. But I think it would have been more compelling if they ended their relationship resentful of each other, but also KNOWING their friendship (which they had for YEARS) means they could never actually hate each other, but also knowing they would never be able to able to repair it and have what they had before. sort of like gale and katniss in the hunger games.
That’s all I can think of for now, but there’s probably others.

Peeta’s and Katniss’ roles reversed Part 2
(Well, yes, that topic is still very much on my mind and I want to start writing this soon)
So... if Peeta’s and Katniss’ roles were reversed in Mockingjay and Peeta is the one who gets rescued from the arena and not Katniss, another thing I can’t stop thinking about is who is he stuck with in D13.
No matter who got saved or not from the arena, the Capitol would still taking it out on D12 to set an example and to punish the star-crossed lovers. Gale would still see the warning signs and start evacuating people. Still a lot of people would not react fast enough and therefore be left in D12, when the bombing starts. Peeta’s family would be among them and therefore be dead.
There he is, alive and somehow well, in D13. His family is gone, Katniss is in the Capitol and he is stuck with... sober Haymitch, crying Finnick and... raging Gale. Well, of course, there would be Prim, Mrs. Everdeen and Delly, but let’s focus on the male characters first.
Peeta, very much like Katniss, would definitely attack Haymitch, just not physically like she did, more like with words filled with spite and rage. “You promised me to safe her! You owed me this!” Uhm, and that’s still on the nicer end of things he would say to Haymitch. So, I’ll guess, they won’t be spending much time together at first in D13.
Finnick is still devastated about losing Annie, but Peeta can so hardcore relate to what Finnick is feeling and what he is going through, they would quickly become friends. Maybe even getting a room together, while Katniss and Annie are still in the Capitol. (Similar to Johanna and Katniss) They would be tying knots together and console each other during their breakdowns.
But because Peeta is approached by Coin to be the face of the revolution, it’s safe to say, at this point, Katniss is the only thing, he lives for. If she hadn’t saved him in the first Hunger Games and then was left behind in the Quell, he would not be standing here. He knows that. And we all read how tough he was, when it came to protecting her before the Quell, while she was still there. Just imagine him going absolutely feral and becoming a bad-ass motherfucker, while still remaining a good and decent person. (And yes, I very much believe this is possible, just say one word and I will elaborate the shit out of this one)
Therefore Peeta is forced to leave Finnick be Finnick for a while and start doing something to get Katniss and Annie back. (And Johanna and the other remaining Victors). And guess who is the most concerned about Katniss’ rescue and is also in a more important position in the rebellion?
Right, it’s Gale. And they would fight a lot. I mean, Katniss already picked every possible fight with Gale, and they were best friends at that time. I guess with Peeta it would have been similar or worse.
Gale would act very childish and bitter, because he saw the Quell, right? The beach scene, the goodbye kiss... Uhm, he is going to be jealous. Even if he doesn’t want to let it out on Peeta, he still has all that pent up anger with no way to go. (other than planning to kill civilians, lmao)
And Peeta on the other and could not leave some thing unsaid. Not about Katniss, actually, everybody knows his stance on this topic, but Peeta would be disgusted beyond compare, when learning about Gale’s war pinterest board with Beetee.
However, they both have the same goal in mind, so they would find a way to work together, even though it might take a while, since both have very different approaches handling stressful situations. They wouldn’t hate each other, but they are not going to become friends either.

Katniss Everdeen and her complex links to cats
Never thought I’d write an entire essay on Katniss and cats, but here we are.
Tumblr media
I got this idea from the fact that the male lead of my other favorite series His Dark Materials, Will Parry, has a cat Daemon. (It basically means his soul takes on the form of a cat and I think it might be the same case with Katniss.) He was compared to and linked to cats throughout the story. The same goes for Katniss and she has such a cat-like personality when you think about it.
Tumblr media
I also got inspired by a stray cat who suddenly scratched me lightly when I was playing with it. It was getting along with me so well, but scratched me with absolutely no warning and got back to being friendly and purring in an instant. That reminded me of Katniss.
We all know how Katniss hates cats and cat-like creatures, specifically Buttercup and the lynx who was following her around the woods. They both had complex relationships with her as well. Buttercup had a reason to distrust her, yet they were the only ones who could really feel the loss of Prim the same way, so Katniss found comfort in Buttercup at the end of Mockingjay. The lynx was trusting Katniss for no reason and she was conflicted about it because she’s protective in nature and she hated she had to hurt it, but she did it for survival anyway.
Tumblr media
This is true of Katniss’ relationship with herself in a way. She tries not to argue for herself ever and lists all her imperfections constantly.
Of course, her relationships with cat-like creatures is not the only thing linking her to cats. She has a very cat-like personality, especially when she interacts with Peeta.
People familiar with cats would tell you that with most cats, even when they act like they don’t give a shit about you and even avoid you, they actually take notice of the humans around them and when you’re kind to them, they’re drawn to you by default. They may try to act indifferent, but it shows.
It’s exactly how Katniss is in her relationship with Peeta. She tries so hard to convince herself that she isn’t drawn to him and doesn’t need him. But when she’s at her most vulnerable, she trusts him and wants him around.
Tumblr media
For instance, when she hurts her ankle in Catching Fire, she trusts Peeta to understand what happened and leans on him for support. He in turn delivers a brilliant performance for the peacekeeper and understands that Katniss was hurt while the others are oblivious, even her family. When she’s under the influence of sleep syrup and at her most vulnerable, she’s finally willing to admit she wants Peeta to stay and hold her, even when moments earlier, she was like, I choose the rebellion and Gale. And when they’re on the train to the Quarter Quell, she finally lets herself get loose and initiates an intimate hug. She doesn’t want to let go and is annoyed when they’re interrupted. She’s practically purring when touched by Peeta because she feels safe with him. That’s so cat-like.
These are so cat behaviour to me. It also makes sense that I see a lot writers giving Katniss lines like “I’m not good with words, I work better with actions.” Yes, she’s like that and that’s very cat-like. And with cat-like people, when they get attached to someone, they don’t let go. This is also part of why Will reminded me of Katniss. He literally goes through a bunch of worlds in search of Lyra after losing her. Katniss is like that with Peeta. When she loses him, she’s inconsolable. She’d do anything to get him back.
Last but not the least, Katniss’ name is also very similar to “cat”. I’ve seen quite a few people’s head canons with other character nicknaming her “Kat”. Once you make the connection, you can’t unsee it.

I’m just personally so sick of hearing the tired ass “peeta represents peace” and “gale represents violence” therefore the ending = good 🙄 the way gale was demonized for being rightfully angry about his tyrannical government, because apparently being a 'good' revolutionary means being reluctant. But actually dedicating your life trying to dismantle the oppressive structures that they live by? Oop noo that's too radical…too extremist. and you're suddenly just as bad as the oppressors! LIKE STFU! thas some moderate liberal bs. Have you ever talked about this before?
And it doesn’t help that Peeta was on the richer side of district 12 and was the pure golden blonde boy who hated violence uwu. I liked many things about THG but that will forever be a huge issue I had with it and it ultimately reminds me that the writer was white.
Have you ever talked about this before?
To be honest, I don't talk about THG much because it's widely held as this paragon of anti-oppression fiction, which I do not believe is the case and people are SUPER passionate about these books and I read them once years ago and never returned to them so unless expressly asked about them in relation to the triangle specifically where I talk about how I prefer the nuance of the triangle and of Katniss as a character in the books over the movies and how the movies did a disservice to that aspect of the books, I don't say anything.
and you're suddenly just as bad as the oppressors! LIKE STFU!
But this is exactly the problem with the books. Like I can't say they didn't hold my attention at the time and when the movies came out because I found them so bad, I was very much in a 'the books are better' mindset but then later, especially when I would see people gush about the brilliant messaging of the books and of how brilliant Suzanne Collins is and my reaction to that would be this automatic no they're not and no she's not, I thought about the reason why that was my reaction and why I'm not fandom or even really consider myself a fan of the books. And it's because Collins makes the revolutionaries the problem and ultimately paints a broad stroke of 'all war is bad' and equates the methods the oppressed use to fight against their oppressors with the violence the oppressor enacts against the oppressed -- which is a message that is prevalent in fiction, like ATLA does the same thing, it's even in things like the second season of The Wilds -- and more than that being lazy, it's the type of false equivalence used to keep oppressive governments/systems/people in power and remain oppressive. In terms of its politics, it's not a revolutionary series at all.

I guess as someone who has read the books more recently than they’ve seen the movies, the thing that always stands out to me about Hunger Games discourse is that, in the books at least, Katniss never *wanted* Peeta as anything other than a friend. The whole stupid triangle with her and Peeta and Warcrimes McGee, everyone is telling her to choose one and she’s just annoyed because they’re both her friends and she doesn’t seem romantically into either one. Even at the end, they get together and it’s more about what it means for the future than the resolution to a romance. So, I can’t ever get on board the “Katniss didn’t deserve Peeta” train, because the whole “romance is about Peeta getting what he wants out of the relationship. (And despite how this sounds, I like Peeta. The romance just isn’t that great on anyone’s side.)
Oh, when I said, "Katniss didn't deserve Peeta," I don't mean that romantically.
You're right that Katniss wasn't overly romantic with either him or Gale, and if you pushed me to categorize her, I'd say she was either aromantic, asexual, or both. Which is why I never quite understood why SC would add in a romance at all, let alone a love triangle.
Of course, those leanings could be trauma-based, because Katniss was deep in survival mode before the books even began.
Either way, it was never really on her radar.
Besides which, I hate the idea that character can “deserve” someone romantically. It’s just like the “I did something Manly & Heroic, this sexy lady is my Reward” trope in action movies. No thanks.
Anyways, what I meant by that was that Katniss wanted him as a friend, but never treated him like a true friend. He was either a pawn or a comfort blanket.
She developed this codependency with him because of the shared trauma of the Games, but it still always felt like their relationship was…superficial???
Not really the kind of relationship you think about when you think about two people who have been to hell and back together.

Friends to Lovers Fics Masterlist (9)
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 / Part 6 / Part 7 / Part 8 /
Created: June 6th, 2024
Checked:---
Don't Talk To Me-hutchabelle (ao3) Summary: Katniss Everdeen hates people. Enemy-HGRomance (ao3) Summary: I’m Katniss Everdeen-Snow. I’m eighteen years old, the president’s granddaughter, and the youngest gamemaker Panem has ever known. I’ve been taken prisoner by Peeta Mellark and the rebels of District 13. But I’m dangerous and trained to kill, and I’m not going down without a good, long, hard fight. Canon Divergence. Everlark Coffee & Tea-JHsgf82 (ao3) Summary: Modern AU. Katniss and Peeta, who are best friends, decide to open a coffee & tea shop together. How will it turn out? Will they become more than business partners? Oh yeah, and they were roommates! Everlark Spring Break-Xerxia (ao3) Summary: Prompt 17: Katniss can’t afford to go away on Spring Break, so Peeta brings Spring Break to her. [submitted by @hutchhitched ] For the Everlark fic exchange, spring edition on Tumblr. Falling Like Stars-JLaLa (ao3) Summary: Katniss was more than happy to cater Gale and Madge’s wedding. Until she found out she would be working with Peeta Mellark, a returning District 12 resident—and her childhood crush. Finding my way Home-Xerxia (ao3) Summary: When Peeta Mellark needs a 'plus one' for a family wedding his best friend, Katniss Everdeen is the logical choice. Isn't she? Get the Money Shot-hutchabelle (ao3) Summary: Written for Everlark Fic Exchange Springtime Edition 2021 Prompt 32: Katniss Everdeen, famous musician hates posing for photoshoots whether it’s for an album or a magazine with the exception of celebrity photographer Peeta Mellark who seems to always know the way to get the best shots. Guy Time-JLaLa (ao3) Summary: Peeta Mellark returns to his hometown to help his best friend, Katniss with her two rambunctious kids. What happens when he starts to fall for all of them? Have Your Cake and Eat It Too-katnissdoesnotfollowback (ao3) Summary: For his twenty-fifth birthday, Peeta gets exactly what he's always wanted. Written April 2017 as a birthday gift for franceschee via everlarkbirthdaydrabbles on tumblr. He Doesn't Belong Down There-oakfarmer (ao3) Summary: It’s not unheard of for a merchant’s third son to end up in the mines. But why did it have to be the baker’s third son? In a Panem without the Hunger Games, Peeta becomes a coal miner and someone isn’t happy about the Boy with the Bread spending his days underground.

Also, any headcanons for any other Raymond crossovers?
Going with your original crossover list for Raymond! 🥺
Amiee Rose Baird
Could be ship vibes after his games but I don’t know if they’d do that because of Lucia? But definitely at least besties?
Grew up knowing each other because of his friendship/relationship with Lucia.
Maybe she’s the one who told him most of Lucy Gray’s story?
Amor
No thoughts head empty besties/older sister/mom-figure vibes because of Cinna starting with Raymond’s game’s? 🥺
Concordia Snow (they have a whole life together but your getting headcanon’s 🥺)
Still not entirely ruling out they could be poly with Finnick 👀
Sometime after Hope and Maude are born, they possibly do a vow renewal type thing but this time they get to plan it how they want?
Elissa Morningstar:
Honestly can’t find that much about info about her?
Could be poly trio with Finnick?
Ginny Cresta:
Ginny is the victor of the 72/71 Hunger Games depending on if it’s the bigger crossover with Hollis and Camden and being the year before him, Raymond was the 73/72?
One of the situations where while Finnick teaches him how to be with male clients, she teaches him how to be with female clients?
Poly trio or besties again?
Raymond’s stress levels are already at an all time high with Katniss & Peeta going back into the arena but he’s even more freaked out by the thought of losing her and Finnick. 🥺
Idk what Ginny is up to in the first have of Mockingjsy but if not captured, will personally fight Coin to get her to get Raymond out of the Capitol?
Lacey Tanner
Poly Trio or besties?
Raymond almost loses his shit when he finds out Snow has been selling her to clients since she was sixteen
Raymond is terrified he’s losing almost everyone he cares about to the arena during the quill again. 🥺
Softest reunion in 13 once he’s awake and has been detoxed from the drugs in his system 🥺
Lux Marcella
Poly Trio or besties?
(Finnick suggests pitching a threesome night with Raymond to show him how a meeting with married clients could go after they’ve taught him how to work with men and women individually.)
“I don’t care you’re a career, why the fuck did you volunteer for the quill?” - Raymond, after the reaping. 🥺
Lysa Undersee
They knew each other through school, his hunting with Katniss and Gale and them bringing strawberries for the Mayor?
She vist’s him a lot once she moves into 12’s Victor’s Village after his games?
Lysa goes farel if she hears Coin doesn’t want to rescue Raymond & the captured Victor’s after quill?
Marisol Odair
Either ship vibes, besties or #1 supporter of Finnick and Raymond/the possible poly trio with Annie?
But either way decides to like him after he’s kind and sweet when he met Annie & Mags for the first time?
Yet again someone who teaches him how female clients are going to be different then being with Lucia?
Raymond’s just always terrified about losing his victor friends to the arena during the quill. 🥺
Marella Flanagan
Listen part of why Finnick likes him is he knows Mags took one look at Raymond after meeting and was like “he’s is my son now” and I feel like Marella would agree to like him after that?
Besties or ship vibes/also supporter of Raymond/Finnick/possible trio with Annie?
Raymond’s own little victor family needs to stop being in the Quill he’s panicking.🥺
Loses her shit when she finds out Raymond got captured after Katniss blew up the arena?
Waverly Coin
Bonds with Finnick in 13, promises she’ll do everything she can to make sure Raymond gets out of the capitol, even before Katniss makes her Mockingjay deal?
Poly trio vibes forming once Raymond is in 13 and recovering?
Vouches for Raymond to be apart of their squadron thing?
Willow Abernathy
Besties even before his and Lucia’s games?
The hang out a lot at each other’s houses in the Village, partly because she doesn’t want him to be alone and end up turning to liquor like Hamitch? (He hates the taste so she doesn’t have to worry about that)
Helps him figure out what his “Talent” is after his games?
Raymond becomes so stressed Willow could get reaped at some point.
Tells him he’s an idiot for wanting to volunteer for Haymitch (and that they both know Peeta would beat him to it because of Katniss.)

okay now that i’ve re-watched we’re the millers i’m going to talk about it in terms of odesta. here’s what i got
• overall, i feel like this is a perfect au. in the totally killer and teen beach movie au, i strayed very far from the source material. in the planet of the apes crossover, i pretty much plan on keeping everything really close to canon. this is like a happy medium
• usually in aus i feel like annie fits more as the guy and finnick more as the girl. while i feel like annie would so totally be a drug dealer, i also want her to have an ocean themed stripper name. coral maybe
• speaking of coral, i feel like it would be so cute if coral and mizzen made an appearance as their fake kids. if i did do that, i would have to change annie’s stripper name (shell? ariel? del mar??). at first, i was gonna make the kids gale and katniss bc they already get mistaken for cousins anyway (plus, katniss literally says he could be her brother). the mizzen and coral idea is rlly starting to grow on me but i have a stronger vision for gale and katniss so im gonna talk about that
• katniss isn’t houseless in this one, but she does live w prim and she’s very short on rent and her mom isn’t helping so that’s her motivation for going. gale’s motivation is pretty similar except he has a million siblings (jk i think he only has like three) so he’s the one that kinda convinces katniss to go
• we’re already starting to diverge from canon here, but worry not. katniss and gale don’t *actually* know each other. they may work at the same restaurant and swap tips depending on who needs it more, but their relationship mirrors the one they have in the book: strictly business
• one thing that i WILL be omitting is the scene where rose and the fake daughter take turns making out with the fake son. call me a prude asexual freak, but that scene was not my favorite 😔😔 in fact i hated it. instead, i wanna take the concept of gale meeting someone (aka delly… forever a gelly truther <3) on the road and take that in a completely opposite direction. instead of him freaking out over never kissing a girl before, i think it would be interesting to see him try to tone down being so flirty bc he doesn’t wanna scare her off. but he doesn’t rlly do a good job so delly KNOWS he likes her but just isn’t doing anything about it, but worry not. she has a few tricks up her sleeve. she and her parents are still jesus freaks
• i’m also going to change up the love interest we got with the fake daughter and actually make it work out for katniss. peeta is the guy she meets at the hospital and since she rlly fucking hates hospitals (we get a katniss everdeen lore drop right around here) he helps her put her mind at ease. the carnival scene still happens and they still end up chatting BUT peeta actually comforts her and doesn’t make her feel bad that she’s in a crying mood and he fully becomes an accomplice in this drug dealing scheme they have going on
• okay now back to my dilemma with finnick and annie. rose is obviously so done with being a stripper but to me the fake dad’s situation (can’t remember his name) seems to align better with finnick’s situation in canon cos his life is literally at stake if he doesn’t do what the Big Boss tells him to do. maybe i can weave in a backstory about how finnick and annie USED to be in the same boat (stripping) so when finnick first got trafficked (bc lowkey was that not the situation the fake dad was in?? the Big Boss mentioned they knew each other since college but mf was fully intending on killing him if he didn’t do everything he said) to be a drug dealer he convinced himself that would be better bc he’d have more agency/bodily autonomy. instead of their love-hate relationship stemming from him tearing her grandfathers fucking painting (what a stupid meet-cute… if a man did that to me and defended himself by saying it was an ugly painting i wouldn’t even bicker w him id straight up pretend he didn’t exist).
wait sorry let me finish my thought. instead of their love-hate relationship stemming from the Painting Fiasco, it would stem from annie being worried for him and finnick being like OKAY but at least i’m not stripping anymore and then that little argument that takes place in the kitchen in the movie is replaced by them having a heart to heart bc annie is convinced that he thinks she’s beneath him and he clarifies that this is in fact not the case. makes for a much better buildup for them to start making out nasty style instead of what happened in the movie (i think fake dad genuinely did make fun of rose for being a stripper?? unless the “you have terrible taste in guys” line was referring to them and their fake family situation, but based on her reaction, it didn’t rlly seem that way. ugh this movie is so 2013)
• i may be a prude asexual freak but i am keeping in the couple swinging!
• okay back to my smaller dilemma: mizzen and coral. i feel like that would work so good bc even though i think finnick odair is lowkey giving john stamos, which would make annie (who i hc gives uhhh riri bichri w curly hair) (also someone else but i am BLANKING on her name) and their fake kids situation ironic bc YES they all visually look very similar and yes each of them aren’t even the same ethnicity. idk i notice i do fall a lot on that type of humor in my aus but lucky for me so does this movie in general
anyway i also think that if i wanted to go with the Irish Finnick Odair route having mizzen there to look more like annie and coral (who is also ginger… according to the movies anyway) look more like finnick could be so cute. but then again my brothers look like my dad and me and my sisters look like my mom and we have been stopped before bc they thought my dad and brothers were fucking abducting us so maybe this is another sign that i should just keep in gale and katniss. but cmon the d4 fake family could be so cute. like, coral (who i would keep houseless) finding her family with annie and finnick and mizzen. mizzen finally getting to be a normal 14 year old boy (who is still a chaos gremlin). but also idk again he’s FOURTEEN. the fake dad wouldn’t risk that bc he doesn’t want a child abduction charge on his hands and finnick wouldn’t risk that bc im gonna make him nicer in this universe
• speaking of making finnick nicer, maybe it’s my preference for pathetic men, but i’m gonna make him so fucking whipped for annie. i don’t really like it when the whole “enemies to lovers” trope is literally just bc the guy is an asshole and the girl just like conveniently ignores that as time goes on. like he’s prob still gonna leave to make the deadline, but i’m not tryna have him constantly abandon his fake kids. who does he think he is? an actual dad??
• wait let me clarify that i don’t think rose has no backbone. i think she very much does, i just think that the almost-kissing scene was weird bc he highkey didn’t even deserve to get kissed
• depending on who i keep (katniss and gale vs coral and mizzen) the ending will be drastically different. but still equally as cute imo
• okay okay i think that’s it

Here I introduce my first ever watch through of the hunger games. These notes contain all four movies (not including the prequel because I watched that first in theatres). They’re very much made directed at my friends so I’m mainly just bookmarking them.
Thoughts while watching the hunger games
Movie 1: The Hunger Games
1. I already know who dies so no surprises there
2. Are there only white people in this goddamn movie???
3. Gale is weird
4. What the fuck did Gale do to get his name in there that many times?? Is that just how it works??
5. Peeta(?) seems sweet
6. I know him and Katniss know each other but I don’t know how they know each other
7. The drunk(?) guy seems like a dick but in the way he’ll have a redeemable character arc later on
8. I agree with a random tweet I saw now where they were talking about the importance of Katniss’s role in district 12, how she was honoured because she hunted not because she volunteered
9. Katniss hasn’t even been in the hunger games yet and she’s already traumatized. Who did this to her?
10. Movie ends rather abruptly, I assume because that’s how the book ends
11. The actual games were interesting but I hope they go more into the political side of things (I know they do)
12. Rue’s death was sad but I already knew how she died so nothing new I guess
13. I didn’t know the other guy from district 11 saved Katniss, that’s pretty cool, lessens the divide between districts
14. Peeta was alright, I can see them trying to set up a love “triangle” between gale him and Katniss but I don’t actually like Gale so I don’t care
15. Weirdly enough I like the romance aspects in the movie outside of the relationship with Gale because it’s leaves the audience and the characters questioning what parts of their relationship is real and what is acting
16. Why doesn’t every tribute get their own mentor??? That’s how it worked in the prequel movie. Wonder what changed.
17. I like them calling the Capitals bluff, two victors or no victors
18. The first two or three hunger games movies are apparently leaving Netflix on January 20th (weird time) so glad I decided to watch it now I guess
19. It did feel like there was a bit of explaining throughout the movie like this is what these berries are and the weird wasps. I appreciate it and don’t at the same time.
Movie 2: Catching Fire
1. I’m surprised Katniss even wants to pick up a bow again. But it makes sense that she still hunts.
2. Uhg. Gale is back.
3. Did I mention I didn’t like Gale?
4. Was there a district 13 in the prequel?
5. Oh my god shut the fuck up snow 🙄🙄🙄
6. “This is sacred ground” in reference to the victor village. Ma’am that looks like a dumpster fire.
7. Break because they’re testing the fire alarms in my dorm and I can’t hear shit
8. Cinna, the wardrobe guy. I did not know his name before this moment
9. How often do the hunger games happen? Once a year? Every four years like olympics?
10. “Almost thought that kiss was real”. What the fuck Peeta
11. The…. Mayor(?) of district twelve and Haymitch seem to have the weirdest relationship. They hate each other. They’re coworkers. They seem to get along sometimes?
12. Effie! That’s her name.
13. Okay Peeta and Katniss are kinda cute
14. I’m a lesbian and I would date Peeta what the fuck is Katniss doing thinking about Gale
15. Rue :((((
16. Good for district 11, sad for that guy
17. God Katniss couldn’t sound more like she was reading off of cards
18. Sewing the seeds of rebellion I see
19. Still don’t like Gale even if he is pro-rebellion. He’s just kinda an asshole.
20. Dude this is just like star wars
21. Peeta is a sweetheart
22. NOTHING IN THIS MEDICAL SITUATION IS CLEAN! It’s a miracle Gale doesn’t have like 300 types of infection by now
23. Who’s letting white men over 80 be in charge?? (This is about snow) dudes old as fuck. Reminds me of someone
24. I agree with Haymitch “you could live a hundred lifetimes and never deserve that boy” like yes king go off (said to Katniss about Peeta)
25. Big fan of Peeta being the damsel. “Peeta has to survive, we have to do everything we can to save him” << Katniss
26. Haymitch does seem like a pretty cool guy, the first movie did him dirty
27. Quit kissing Gale girl!!!! You could do so much better
28. Wow what a surprise that Katniss is the female tribute! I’m glad they went through the process of pulling her name anyway, I only wish they had a big bowl with a bunch of pieces of paper with her name on it. Really would build suspense lol
29. I wish to be a non binary person in the hunger games universe. I think it would be funny.
30. Effie is weird. Delusional and also kind of nice?
31. Hey I know that guy
32. I think the horse in this scene is my new favourite character
33. I love Peeta he’s so cool
34. This is the most awkward elevator ride I’ve ever been a part of
35. How and why is there a picture of Rue there?
36. HOLY SHIT KATNISS
37. Effie looking Katniss dead in the eyes and saying “you would have been the most beautiful bride” is so fucking rude. Way to be confident in her skills
38. They removed the chairs from the interview stage like no more standing you did it once
39. Cinna is cool and awesome. There is no way he’s alive by the end of this
40. As someone trained in CPR that fucker is not pushing hard enough on Peeta’s chest, break some ribs man
41. NOT a fan of the blisters they have from the fog. I guess they aren’t fans either
42. Oh good they’re gone just like that
43. Katniss really chose the least good weapon, what happens when she runs out of arrows? I think the only thing worse might be throwing knives
44. No one deserves Peeta, what a sweetheart
45. I like that all the disasters or whatever chase then inwards towards the cornucopia
46. Interesting that they take the bodies out of the arena now
47. Big fan of the jabberjays I like the uses for them
48. Knowing that they both live is confusing (Peeta and Katniss)
49. I like the girl who sharpened her teeth for this, she’s cool
50. I like that we’re actually getting to know the game master for this run
51. Oh my god Gale 🙄🙄🙄
52. Are there no countries outside of panam??? Like at all?
53. Well that was fun, end of catching fire
Movie 3: Mockingjay Pt. 1
1. Interesting opening
2. Soundtrack has been pretty good throughout the movie
3. Where is my boy. I know he’s in the capital but where is he.
4. I Don’t Trust The Rebellion
5. I agree with Katniss about Peeta
6. I kind of hope we see Peeta’s POV from w/in the capital, not because he’s my favourite character but because that would been a great scene. If it’s not in the movie I know there’s some fanfic about it somewhere
7. I like that they’re showing Katniss’s struggles with mental health, adds a sense of realism that would otherwise be missing from the story
8. I wish they had shown more people with physical disabilities, like you’re telling me none of the victors that were chosen had lost an arm or an eye or something
9. Very cool scene in District 12, very tragic but I like how they did the scene
10. Where’s Haymitch at
11. President Snow shut the fuck up challenge
12. I’ve seen this scene before with Peeta on the monitor giving an interview. Better with context lol
13. Rebels were quick to call Peeta a traitor despite the fact that they all know the capitals media is manufactured to portray what they want the audience to see. Of course it’s propaganda.
14. Gale > “maybe he was forced” of fucking course he was?! The fuck? Do they think Peeta is just chatting and supporting the people who nearly got him and Katniss killed for fun??
15. “And my sister gets to keep her cat” ha saw that one coming lol
16. Effie! I kind of like her
17. Can’t believe I actually Haymitch. He at least wouldn’t lie to Katniss
18. I think Effie looks better like this than in her ridiculous outfits
19. God Gale looks so awkward while Katniss and Effie are talking. His face nooooooo
20. Cinna :((((((((((((( fuck
21. What the fuck is this propaganda it’s so stupid
22. She’s not the best actor maybe
23. Haymitch!!!
24. I like BeeTee
25. The absolute audacity the rebellion president has to say that Katniss is an untrained civilian
26. FOGGY NELSON!?!??!??! He can’t fucking speak?!? I must destroy the capital. Foggy my boy what have they done to you
27. They’re gonna bomb that hospital.
28. I’ve seen this speech before
29. I don’t like the rebellion. I want the capital overthrown but Karl Marx is occasionally right and they give me the wrong vibe
30. You always forget how big moose are until you see them. That might be a reindeer.
31. Poor Peeta. I miss him. God he looks terrible. :(
32. The guy from supergirl is also in the filming group. Did they say they wanted sidekicks only? Only in superhero tv shows
33. Oh I like the hanging tree song this is cool
34. The dam blowing up is awesome, I like how they used the song for the scene
35. Can president snow be dead yet
36. Peeta no!!!!!!!! I support his rights and wrongs
37. Awwwww Prim. She went back for the cat. I would’ve gone back for Monte I understand
38. Prim’s gonna be a doctor!!! You go girl! She definitely will live!! (She’s gotten too much character development in this movie)
39. Finnick :(((( (I keep calling him Fennec in my head)
40. How long has district 13 been underground? When were they bombed?
41. Oh the white roses! I kind of love that, it’s really cool. In a snow is sinister and good (bad?) villain
42. Peeta better not die I will kill people.
43. With half an hour remaining (plus credits) I see where you both were coming from, liking it and not liking it
44. I just kind of feel bad for Finnick
45. WHAT
46. THE PRESIDENT JUST ALLOWS PEOPLE TO RAPE THE VICTORS
47. WHAT THE FUCK
48. PRESIDENT SNOW SHOULD FUCKING DIE ALREADY CLUB
49. There’s no way the squad rescuing Peeta succeeds.
50. Finnick really is just talking shit about the president on tv love that for him. He’s not even reading from a script this is just years of anger lol
51. Katniss going “president snow can you hear me” just sounds like the beginning to the most awkward zoom call imaginable
52. President snow reminds me of Count Dooku
53. Katniss :(((((((
54. God I hate the president (rebel edition) she’s so manipulative with everything she says
55. I’m like 90% sure she’s evil
56. Something is not right with Peeta. He looks so hurt and sad and starved. And he’s trying to kill Katniss but go off king idk
57. Peeta no my boy what did they do to my boy my sweet boy
58. All presidents shut the fuck up challenge
59. I like the POV camera angles in this series, they’re very good
60. Is Peeta the guy from five nights at Freddy’s or is that someone else?
61. Overall I did enjoy the movie, it gave the story time to breathe that it desperately needed, a break from most of the action while still keeping it interesting.
Movie 4: Mockingjay Pt. 2
1. Prim!!! I like that they sent her in, Katniss’s family is his family in a lot of ways
2. My boy no :( “she’s a monster, she’s a mutt”
3. The president has bad vibes (rebellion edition) Katniss > “you’ve seen what I can do. Send me to district 2” and her just saying “yes I have” is weird and creepy
4. Shut up about the stupid love triangle bullshit!!! Gale there’s no way you can ever been the one Katniss chooses
5. Gale saying “I don’t think they used any rule book when they highjacked Peeta” in defence of bombing medics and wounded soldiers on the other side is just admitting you’re willing to resort to snow’s level of cruelty
6. I think this is my new favourite way to watch movies, taking notes
7. Also their military force is called the Nut?? Really snow couldn’t come up with anything better than the nut???
8. Gale seems more evil in this movie, just saying I could tell from the beginning. “No one who supports the capital is innocent” Gale what the fuck are you on, your girlfriend(?) childhood best friend literally spoke speeches in support like the fuck
9. I like Katniss’s speech here, when she has a gun to her head she makes her best speeches truly
10. She ain’t dead you fools, she just gets injured every five seconds. Like seriously can this girl stay out of medical for five minutes
11. Snow just really loves poison huh?
12. Johanna is kind of funny, I like her she’s wrong when she says nobody likes her
13. I was scrolling through tumblr and I have never been more into the theory that Peeta is the one more similar to Lucy Gray. They both have that same charisma and kindness.
14. I hate how they’re using Katniss, like they really don’t care what she wants
15. Wedding is cute! Do chairs not exist in district 13?
16. Effie’s dresses up again, I wonder where she got such fancy clothes from
17. I would simply notice someone sneaking around a hanger bay filled with bombs. I’m just better.
18. She’s very bad at being anything close to sneaky, literally getting a crowd to form around her
19. More people of colour in these more recent movies
20. Finnick!!!! In the march on the capital
21. All Katniss wants to do is murder why can’t she murder. It’s just frustrating that she keeps being forced into propaganda when she doesn’t want to be in it
22. One (or more) of these pod things will be triggered, they’ve spoken about them too much for them to not be
23. I like that Gale is trying to help her even though he has no clue what she’s doing
24. Why is Peeta here :( he shouldn’t be in an active war zone he still looks tiny
25. Katniss is not good at lying “I wouldn’t be shooting Peeta, I’d be shooting a capital mutt” like sure girl whatever you tell yourself
26. I like this commander guy, he seems awesome. No I don’t know his name
27. Poor Peeta my guy has been through so much. I feel like he still will try and kill Katniss though. That feels too much like an open thread in the story.
28. Convenient that those pods run out of fuel or whatever
29. Boggs :((( (I learned his name)
30. Foggy Nelson my love looks so awkward in the background of all of these scenes
31. I’m surprised no one slipped on the oily marble staircase, maybe it’s sticky? Or like tar?
32. Okay it’s fucking hilarious that they’re doing the stupid little cannon montage for people who “died” in war against the capital. It’s absolutely ridiculous and so on brand
33. Foggy Nelson my boy no, good for you for coming up with a plan but this feels like a death sentence
34. I saw snows collapsed body on that desk and felt really joy for a moment until he woke up like an asshole
35. Isn’t there something about getting strings of bows wet? Or getting bows wet in general? I feel like I learned that that’s bad for them at some point
36. Dude imagine if they had AI generated images to show Peeta. How fucked up would that be.
37. Imagine the one week you’re in the hunger games you get your period, not only are you most likely going to die but you have to be on your period too. Like that’s fucked
38. What the fuck are those things. They look like little aliens I was expecting something that looked vaguely like an animal
39. Oh no she’s gonna run out of arrows! Seriously she needs to learn how to use another kind of weapon.
40. Peeta is such a damsel
41. Finnicks like for sure dead :((( I miss him already
42. Katniss kissing boys left and right goddamn
43. “Stay with me.” “Always.”
44. Oh no Foggy’s brother died! :(((( (I don’t know his characters actual name).
45. Just under an hour left on the runtime and we’re breaking for lunch
46. Okay let’s do this last hour (I have cookies)
47. It’s funny how both Gale and Peeta think the other is the more significant one to Katniss.
48. She has collapsible arrows!!!! Why didn’t anyone tell me?!
49. They seriously didn’t even put like any makeup on them to sneak into the mansion? Also their outfits should have more colour to properly blend into the crowd
50. Very cool action shots that was great. In the run up to the mansion
51. All that work for nothing huh?
52. I wonder what medic symbol they use to avoid violating the Geneva conventions
53. I miss Finnick
54. SNOW SHUT THE FUCK UP CHALLENGE (this is about snow talking about Prim)
55. I only kind of wish Peeta was here to say one last fuck you to snow (see earlier point about Lucy Gray) but I’m also glad he isn’t because he isn’t in danger lol
56. I love that Haymitch is clearly picking up on the same bad vibes that Katniss is in the scene with the last victors and the interim president
57. Oh my god kill yourself coin, I get why Katniss murders her now she’s just another snow
58. Haymitch votes with her! Besties!
59. I don’t like how coin pronounces Panem. Pen-em
60. Yes kill her ass!
61. Oh Paylor!!!! She’s awesome big fan I hope she wins the election that’d be fun
62. Omg Haymitch and Effie! I knew I picked up something about their relationship
63. Poor cat and poor Katniss :((
64. Awww the letter from Annie is so cute. She’s a sweetheart
65. Yay for democracy!
66. I like how Katniss curls up against Peeta, just makes herself at home in his bed because it implies they’ve done this a hundred times before <3
67. Peeta only asks real or not real questions to Katniss which I think shows how much he trusts her even when he’s not fully himself
68. The ending is very cute! I like that the little boy has the same hair as Peeta
69. The end :) final thoughts: uh I did like them which I always knew I would. I think I didn’t watch it earlier because of 1) lack of interest, just wasn’t really relevant in my life I guess and 2) don’t like going into something knowing that half the characters die y’know? I combated that by looking up who dies before watching the movie. Happy I watched it, maybe I’ll read the books? I don’t not want to read them but I’ll have to find them first lol. I think I got a pretty unique perspective having seen the prequel first and none of the others, it’s interesting to see how even after Lucy Gray is gone, her music lives on. And just the little bits and pieces where you can see references to her and snow’s past.
