Elain, Gwyn and a possible January birthday...

I can't believe it's the end of the Year of our Cauldron 2024 and this argument has resurfaced, but here we go I guess.

Firstly, I really want people to know that none of this even matters; the interview in which Steph asked SJM if Azriel's person could have her birthday happened after ACOSF was sent* to be published. So whatever couple was built up was already set in the text. It's a complete non issue. Secondly, SJM has fudged up the numbers before; I am pretty sure that someone did the maths and, according to canon, Eris would have only been around 8yo when he left Mor at Autumn's border! These things happen, and SJM has said she's not a numbers person (no shame).

Thirdly, assuming SJM honours the promise to begin with, even if the birthday request predated ACOSF being sent to the printers, it's still a non issue because both Elain and Gwyn could have been born in January. I don't know why people are saying Elain was born over the summer, besides wanting to reassure themselves that she won't end up with Az.

But let's have a look.

Nesta herself was only "fourteen," born in the spring.

As the map and seasons of Prythian both coincide with the map and seasons of the UK and Ireland/the northern hemisphere in general (besides the four seasonal courts), and it should be safe to assume that the ball happened during the social season, then we can extrapolate from most online sources, which suggest that would have begun when British parliament returned after closing for the winter.

Per Wikipedia:

The Season coincided with the sitting of parliament; it began some time after Christmas and ran until midsummer, roughly late June. Some sources say it began at Parliament's Easter session break. The social season played a role in the political life of the country: the members of the two Houses of Parliament were almost all participants in the season, as all Peers sitting in the House of Lords were by definition nobility, and many if not most Members of the House of Commons were gentry. But the Season also provided an opportunity for the children of marriageable age of the nobility and gentry to be launched into society.

Feyre confirmed as much in ACOTAR, because she arrived back in the human lands after the "socialite season" had ended and it was getting into summer. Elain was even wearing summer appropriate attire and was flushed - maybe from the heat as much as her excitement?

Summer—in the weeks that I’d been painting and dining with Tamlin and wandering the court lands at his side, summer had come. Did my family still truly believe me to be visiting some long-lost aunt? What were they doing with themselves? - ACOTAR, chapter 25

Spring is "right in the middle of" Prythian's social season. Winter > spring (tulip season) > summer. Feyre gives us this information.

All of this is to say that it is absolutely possible for Elain to be born in January and be "barely thirteen" years of age in the late winter/early spring of the same year "weeks" later, when Nesta got revenge for her at the ball. And Nesta, who was "only fourteen" at the time, could have been nearing her fifteenth birthday. "Two under two" is a common saying for a reason, and I suspect the "only" was not to suggest that Nesta had recently turned fourteen (though two in one year is definitely possible), but that she was too young for marriage in her father's/family's opinion, and the entire situation was ludicrous.

Perhaps the wooden rose was actually a birthday gift for Elain from Papa Archeron?

She plucked another figurine from the mantel: a rose carved from a dark sort of wood. She held it in her palm, its solid weight surprising, and traced a finger over one of the petals. “He made this one for Elain. Since it was winter and she missed the flowers.” - ACOSF, chapter 55

Gwyn

If Gwyn and Catrin were conceived on Calanmai, which is the first of May, and faerie pregnancies last ten months - this is of course assuming that their half-nymph mother would have expected the same duration of her pregnancy as a high fae like Feyre - then yes, a pregnancy with a due date of May plus ten months (it's impossible to count from her last missed period as we know at least the high fae only have two cycles a year, so the conception date will have to do) could end with a set of twins born in January.

Gwyn went on, “My mother was unwanted by either of their people. She could not dwell in the rivers of the Spring Court, but was too untamed to endure the confinement of the forest house of Autumn. So she was given in her childhood to the temple at Sangravah, where she was raised. She partook in the Great Rite when she was of age, and I, we—my sister and I, I mean—were the result of that sacred union with a male stranger. She never found out who he was, for the magic chose him that night, and no one ever showed up to ask about twin girls. We were raised in the temple as well. I never left its grounds until … until I came here.” - ACOSF, chapter 29

Around half of twin pregnancies make it to term, and 90% are born after 32 weeks (per google), so even with the extrapolation between human data and the barely existent faerie pregnancy "lore" I think that a January birthdate for Gwyn and Catrin is not a risky guess. I also think it's much more exciting to refer to pregnancy "lore" than data, so can we all get that going? 😂

So yeah, there you have it. Both Elain and Gwyn could have been born in January. Though again, it was a request made after ACOSF was finished. This argument doesn't "benefit" either side, and to suggest that it eliminates either Elain or Gwyn is disingenuous. Why does it keep popping up?

I decided to reread The Hunger Games trilogy and I gotta say this trend of absolutely hating Gale and calling him a war criminal and selfish is such a miss.

Gale is by no means a perfect person. But none of the characters are. They all do bad or questionable things. They’re literally in the middle of a war. Even before it’s officially a war.

Yes Gale was jealous of Peeta and Katniss. Yes, there were significantly more important things going on. Gale knew that, he acknowledged that. But end of the day he’s still a teenager with emotions. Just like Peeta and Katniss who both also describe being jealous of Gale - Madge - Joanna. They also know it’s dumb given all the danger and death surrounding them. But surprisingly people still have emotions like love and jealousy during wartime - including teenagers.

As for the war criminal comments that’s a whole long discussion but let’s remember this is a world in which the government has been slaughtering children for entertainment and forcing all the districts that send their kids to watch them be murdered for the entirety of the main trios lives and long before them - it is all they have ever known.

Additionally, year round the capital treats the citizens like slaves and makes them produce whatever is necessary for the capital and then let’s them live in squalor starving to death. This is how Gale grew up. He was the oldest of 4 kids. His dad died when he was a kid and he was responsible for taking care of his mom and all his siblings. He had his name in the bowl for the reaping probably more than almost any boy in 12.

He watched his district and the men women and children he knew his whole life be burned alive while he had to lead as many to safety as he could. He watched his best friend be shoved into the hunger games twice knowing not only that he might lose her forever but that he would have 2 more people to care for and soon he would be forced into the mines full time with little opportunity to hunt.

So when a war breaks out to finally stop the abuses and murders by the capital of course Gale jumps in. Of course he plans to kill. It’s a war. And it’s nice to try and be a pacifist and say give peace a chance but how can you say that to your oppressors and expect anything to change. There had to be a war and there had to be death. Gale fought in the front lines and was willing to die to save his family and free the districts. It’s curious we never hear anyone call Beetee a war criminal when he made more weapons than anyone. Almost like it’s not the fact the Gale made weapons during a war, but that it was Gale.

I loved your answer to the Sukuita anon! I’d also like to ask for some elaboration if that’s okay: when you said that Sukuna in the manga says he finds Yuji boring but is borderline obsessed with him, can I ask how you got to that interpretation/conclusion? I myself am a MASSIVE sukuita shipper and yet sometimes I struggle w the ship because it feels like Sukunas hate for Yuji is so,,, rigid? To me it’s not just hate sometimes it borders on disdain/apathy which is a lot less forgiving than a passionate feeling like hate I think? And it narrows down the plausibility of a relationship between them (which makes me sad bc I ship these two BAAAADDDDDD 😭😭). So I just wanna know how you reconciled that aspect of their relationship.

When I ship something I don’t wanna feel like the characters would have to be OOC to be together (I’m not one of those people who can soften a char’s edges in my imagination to make it fit the ship), which Sukuita often feels like. Straight up giving me ship-imposter syndrome 😭 💀 making me ask myself am I being delulu? Do these two chars even have chemistry fr?

I think I’ve just never seen a character like Sukuna call another char BORING this much before. Like damn Sukuna can’t even say he hates Yuji 😭 he gotta call him boring 😭😭 and that makes me wanna kms 😭 😭 I don’t wanna ship a fraud ship so please help me see what you see.

I’ve never shipped something so hard while simultaneously being so confused and conflicted over shipping it.

*pats pats* I can understand that dilemma. Hate is a very passionate emotion, while indifference/apathy is defined by lack of passion. How's that quote go—the opposite of love isn't hate but indifference? I'd also find it harder to get into a ship where one party outright doesn't care about the other, while mutual or even one-sided hate are prime shipping grounds.

But in this case, without any real insight into your head, I'd wager a guess that you're experiencing this disconnect because you have critically picked up on the undercurrents of Sukuna and Yuuji's relationship but are consciously too caught up in what Sukuna says.

He be lyin' though. To himself, most of all. There's a reason I specified he must be in denial in that post you saw.

Sukuna very badly wants Yuuji to be boring. He wants Yuuji to not matter—for his ideals to be foolish, for his will to wither. Most importantly, Sukuna wants to be completely unaffected by Yuuji. He tries to emphasize this so many times in so many ways: he never calls Yuuji by name (except once at the beginning and then at the very end), he belittles and mocks Yuuji at every opportunity, and he says in a variety of ways that Yuuji's boring and inconsequential.

But look at his actions, the way he behaves. From the beginning, whenever he takes over Yuuji, Sukuna tries to do things that will not only bring him joy but also shatter Yuuji, and the degree of his targeted malice only increases as the story progresses. The devastation at Shibuya is a natural consequence of Sukuna's fight with Jogo and then Mahoraga, but that final moment where he takes care to lead Yuuji to the very edge of the crater, taunting him while making sure Yuuji will witness the full scale of the devastation the instant he opens his eyes? That's so intensely personal.

And it only gets worse after Sukuna switches to Megumi's body; there are glaring contradictions between what he tells Yuuji and how he acts/reacts. Honestly, even his interior monologue contradicts what he says half the time. Both in the last few chapters of "Cursed Womb: Under Heaven" and "The Decisive Battle in the Uninhabited, Demon-Infested Shinjuku," there's a running thread of Sukuna verbally dismissing Yuuji while actively being shocked, offended, confused, and even cornered by his actions. And whenever the battle narrows to just the two of them, you have Sukuna continuously needling Yuuji to get a rise out of him, while Yuuji's fixated on just tearing into him and saving Megumi—until Yuuji's domain expansion, that is.

The crux of it is there in Chapter 248, explicitly realized by Sukuna himself. Sharing a body with Yuuji, their souls coexisting in excruciating proximity, forced Sukuna to understand and be aware of Yuuji in a way that's deeply uncomfortable to Sukuna, both because of his character and because of how diametrically opposed Yuuji's values and ideals are to Sukuna's nature. Even the very act of understanding Yuuji discomfits Sukuna. Naturally, he resolves to shatter those ideals and Yuuji himself.

Yuuji's DE and its aftermath also illustrate this. You have Sukuna outright saying he feels "absolutely nothing" about the humanity Yuuji showcased only to become incandescently angry the instant he perceives Yuuji as pitying him. There's nothing apathetic about the way he resolves to tear apart everyone Yuuji loves before killing him; he even admits out loud that he's surprised by the intensity of his hatred.

Fundamentally, Yuuji changed him, and Sukuna fucking hated it the entire time—the premonition, the process, the result. He's so insistent on Yuuji meaning nothing because to accept otherwise challenges the very foundation Sukuna built his existence on. To him, Yuuji is an existential threat, and we see it realized in the afterlife scene, where Sukuna admits to wanting to try a kinder path in life. That's one hell of an admittance coming from him, but it's also an admittance he could only have made in death, in loss.

In the end, he died cradled by Yuuji, verbally rejecting him using Yuuji's own words while simultaneously acknowledging Yuuji by using his proper name. And ain't that sukuita in a nutshell?

Even outside of the shipping goggles, they're a central narrative-driving force in the final arc and for good reason.

I do think the development of this relationship could have benefited from (a) the Shinjuku Showdown arc having a tighter focus, instead of being so drawn out and haphazard, and (b) Yuuji's DE and the parts around it being expanded to cover a Heian era flashback as well as more insights into Yuuji's understanding of Sukuna. I read or skimmed like twenty chapters just to put this post together because while I trust my memory, I wanted concrete references, and it really showed how scattered the emotional core of the Sukuna gauntlet is.

uh i mean he’s cool i guess.

no all jokes aside there are very few characters that are doing it like him.

he’s the leader of one of the most elite teams in the FBI. he’s a wet cat. he’s the epitome of traditional heterosexuality. he’s a boy kisser. he’s cold and distant. he loves his team more than anything in the world. he’s the next best profiler after gideon. he’s a massive idiot and a dork who collects coins. he’s got the skill level of a sniper/marksman. he does most of his team's paperwork so they can focus in the field. he’s no nonsense and straight laced. he seriously considered using web shooters at the FBI. he frequently catches an attitude with his boss, bigoted cops, and generally people in higher positions of power than him (and they just kind of take it). he has enough connections to get the italian government to revoke diplomatic immunity of a vatican priest. he's on a first name basis with the attorney general. he's kind of (at first) an absent father. he's a single mother of 6. he killed a man with his bare hands. he's so unbelievably gentle. he’s a white guy in a basic ass suit. he serves unprecedented levels of cunt.

what i keep coming back to is how much he cares. he cares about victims, he cares about unsubs (the ones that had justifiable reasons for being the way they are), more than anything he cares about his team.

the lengths he goes to to protect them or even just let them know he's there for them. he doesn't raise his voice, even when he's furious and when they lash out at him, he just absorbs it. aaaaaaugh. even roy, who hates his guts, he still cares about and still tries to make nice with for the sake of his son still having a grandparent in his life.

long story short i love aaron hotchner for all of his fucked up ways, big wet eyes, and self sacrificing demeanor.

am i insane for saying the whole team? poly bau has a special place in my heart. i think he should get to have several boyfriends and several girlfriends. and his boyfriends are boyfriends and his girlfriends are girlfriends and they're all just happy.

jessica brooks. im being so serious she stepped up in a way that very few others did. her offering to look after jack after hailey dies, staying with him when hotch gets called away, defending him against roy. also their banter is wonderful they r sooo siblings to me.

him and garcia are a very close second. obviously her and morgan are It but we gotta start putting some respect on him and garcia because

My unpopular opinion about this character

i mentioned this in someone else’s ask about unpopular HCs but i dont think he’s this #daddydom character in bed that people write him as. (disclaimer, headcanons are headcanons and im not bashing them, this is just what i think)

i can see him being dominant in bed (tho im a sub!hotch truther) but i dont think he’d go in for sadism or degrading or anything like that. given his childhood abuse, i cant imagine he’d enjoy hitting his partner or making them cry (even if it is consensual). in the show, he's very overtly gentle, especially with the people he loves.

i also dont think he’d enjoy a big age gap relationship with a subordinate either (i also see this being floated around). my man is a stickler for the rules and if theres a fraternization policy, i doubt he’d break it. im aware i sound like a massive hypocrite bc i ship him w the team but im mainly talking about x reader pairings here.

PISSED BEYOND BELIEF WE NEVER GOT AN “AARON” EPISODE

i guess 100 was kind of in the same vein but Reid got both “Revelations” and “Spencer” so i think we deserved an “Aaron”

for the love of god expand on his backstory. he was sent off to boarding school, he was a lawyer, a federal prosecutor, he was on SWAT, he's an accomplished sniper, he was with the BAU for something like 8 years before the show started i think. where is he finding the time for this?

So the reboot trailer…

First off, I was so excited to see this, and secondly, the wizards were not in it. I’m becoming more and more convinced that they have been scrapped and I will have to have a long, disappointed cry. But onto happier, more cgi things! *activates nostalgic Winx music to write to*

Bloom on a bike, as happy as can be, wherever you are going, Bloom, please wait for me! (Personal reference, if anyone gets that, I will probably have a little squeak of joy.) I honestly like that she’s still got her bike, just like the original. Her top is cute, too, more OG Bloom than Nick Bloom, which I like.

Flora and Stella are fighting this guy, and already, I’m sad. He’s fine, I guess, but…he doesn’t have half the personality of Knut. Knut had overalls, and glasses, and a bunch of ghoulies, and this just feels very generic.

Bloom takes him out, but it doesn’t seem to have a dragon, just fire, and she’s just standing there, frozen, like Ogron whenever anything remotely dangerous happens. It lacks the drama of the OG, where she gets grabbed and unleashes a while dragon made of fire, which was badass and hit really hard.

Flora’s here. Which, I love her, but this is Bloom and Stella’s special time. Also, they were looking for Bloom. Looking for her. This is meant to be an accident. (Or meet cute, if you happen to ship.) The wings look weird, honestly, like they’re made of plastic on dolls, and Stella looks odd. Flora looks pretty, as always, I like the outfit, but do I love it as much as her original fairy form? No, not sure I do.

Just, let’s take a moment to note this other presumable base level fairy, shall we? She looks way more like the original, but the fact that she, also presumably a student at Alfea, looks so basic next to the Winx, gives me the feeling that the Winx are just going to be special and powerful for no real reason. Which…I don’t love, in the OG they were just normal people that wound up fighting evil, they’re not the chosen ones. (Except in my Halloween fanfic I’m writing where they unknowingly are, but that’s beside the point.) But this is a nice fairy form, and frankly, I’d love the Winx’s to look more like this, their forms are more detailed than Enchantix already.

I do like these outfits, they’re nice, and probably more appropriate for high school students than their adventure outfits from season one. I actually do like that they have their hair up, that’s a thing for me, because trust me, if I’m adventuring, first thing I’m doing is putting my hair back. It gets in my face when I’m eating breakfast, long, loose hair is a hazard in adventuring. Also, love Tecna’s little pose here. That’s cute. And also one of only two appearances for her in the trailer. She and Musa are tied for least relevant.

No. Just no. I’m sorry, I just…I hate this. I’m trying not to be negative, but this is just wrong. This is not Faragonda. Faragonda wears blue. And looks different. This just jars for me, but it’s not a bad design, I guess, so think what you like.

I just took this screenshot because the video paused on it and I thought it was funny. Looks like Bloom going back to Earth, and also, like high school, so maybe we’ll see more of her human life, which, I guess is cool? I don’t think I ever felt much pull for that. I want to see her at Alfea. But she looks so cute and dramatic, jumping out of a hole in the air! And I do like her outfit. It’s actually cute, and she has her flares again, and the pink isn’t excessive.

Stella has a sceptre! It’s not as kickass as her original, but she’s got one! Which I love, because I miss the old one. It vanished, then cameoed one last time to get eaten by Shiny. She’s still sticking with that outfit too, I see. Hooray…it’s not as bad as I keep looking at it, I guess, when you cut out the skirt, but still. And I kinda miss her fringe here. Also, her spell name is ‘Burning Sun’. I…I feel like it could have been more creative. Even ‘Rising Sun’ sounds better. Or ‘Solar Blaze’. I just like them better. Or bring back ‘Solar Wind’.

And it looks like they’re not triplets in the reboot, because the skin tone redesigns I’ve seen so many people use are actually canon now, which honestly, I love. They look beautiful. If Riven x Darcy is a thing in this reboot, then lucky, lucky Riven. I like that the outfits aren’t too different from their originals, just redesigned a bit. It’s perfect, and I wish the Winx had stayed truer to their OG fairy forms. I think, for the first time, I get why people have posts saying that the Trix were their bisexual awakening, I get that with this picture.

Sorry for the dreadful quality, Sky just wasn’t feeling photogenic. We still have our guys! Tiny Riven up there if anyone can see…their ship is still the iconic red, and they now have hoverboards! Gotta be honest, I sort of miss the original uniforms. They were so impractical, but they were iconic and these look…well, cool, and I like that they’re sci-fi, but I miss the capes, I’m sorry. Even after watching Duman pick up and grab them by the capes, I miss them. (Also, it’s agreed now that if the wizards don’t show up, any background character or creature with pink hair is just Duman in disguise. This is canon now, who’s with me?)

We’re keeping, ‘Just Winx!’ Which I like, it’s a really cute scene. I like Bloom having a notebook, it’s cute, she feels like she should have one. I like characters that have a notebook or journal for all their thoughts and doodles.

Speaking of the notebook, it’s so cute! But I’m so scared this is all the Kiko we’re getting, and if it is, I mourn him even more than the wizards! He was so cute, and if Bloom doesn’t have a tiny, implausible bunny sidekick, I will be sad. Also, does Bloom have a smartwatch? Is that a good idea? What if the Trix can track her through it? I guess Tecna could prevent that. The details on her jeans are cute, I like them. And there’s that iconic hand pose! I don’t know what it’s for or why it exists, but I love it!

And that’s all from me for today on the reboot! So far, no wizards spotted, but I’ll survive somehow. We’ll see how they handle the Trix, only then will we know whether we can trust the reboot to handle the wizards. If the Trix get backstories and personality, then I will campaign for the wizards to be there. If not, if they’re cardboard soup, then I will protect the wizards from the madness as much as possible.

Can you tell I’ve been on a nostalgic rewatch.

1. Logan/Quinn from Zoey 101. The OG teenbop enemies to lovers omg I stan. When they pronounced their love for each other at the season finale at the prom, screaming crying throwing up. The way they get together is so random lmao he calls her hot and they kiss then Michael rides by on a horse like what? But the pay off and ending was so *chefs kiss*

2. Courtney/Duncan from TDI. They were everything to me and Cartoon Network ruined it. First season the bantering, the flirting. When I tell you I was hooked. The scream I scrumpt when they finally kissed (also me didn’t she just throw up but whatever I guess) then she left and it was all downhill from there.

3. Rose/Jake from ADJL. The Romeo and Juliet of this paring needs to be studied. They were so down bad for each other. When Jake found out she was huntsgirl then when she found out. Their first kiss being right before she had to ‘kill’ him for sport in an arena. Her giving up her life to keep him and his family safe, him giving up her to keep her safe. 😭😭😭 they don’t make em like they used too

4. Draco/Harry from HP. The ship that started it all. Before this I’d never read a slash fic before is it even still called that. Anyways this right here is my longest going ship I’m still into only reason it’s not higher is that I love the other ones more. You get so many variations of this, from the super toxic fic, to the I’ve always secretly loved you, to the meet up after the war is over and so on and so forth. Ugh I love it. There’s like 50,000 fics of them on a03 and I know I’ve read like half at least 🤣

5. Zuko/Katara from Avatar. My second non canon ship on here. When I tell you I was obsessed with them. Sigh then I discovered other fandoms and by the time I came back to them I was just done. Which I think comes fromm just not being as much of a Zuko fan anymore. This ship was gold, tho, I mean come on I’ll save you from the pirates how can I not. The way he jumped in front of her (obviously he’d do the same for everyone but like listen it ate down bad) the whole crystal caverns episode was fuel to the fire, the writers/creators knew what they were doing

6. Jake/Miley from Hannah Montana. Another OG omg she hated him so much. The flirty the snark then they had to kiss and both of em were like oh hot damn. They were so cute together and I will forever hate Disney for making her choose Jake just for him to cheat on her like what was the reason. What was the reason 😭😭

7. Alejandro/Heather from TDI. Woo child buckle up. This is one of those slowburns cause it’s not until like a quarter in to the season you’re like hold up. Are they going where I think they’re going and then they did. I don’t like the ending cause seriously wtf was the point. But the lead up and bruh the stuck in a hole song I still sing that on a daily. They were literally made for each other.

8. Chad/Sonny from Sonny with a Chance: one thing about Disney they ate down when it comes to enemies to lovers, or annoyance to like, whatever you wanna call it. Chad Dylan Cooper and Sonny omg the drama was beautiful, they hated each other so much and when they started dating I bout passed out. Lol they were so hilarious together I miss it.

9. Raven/Beastboy from TT. This and next two aren’t super enemies to lovers, more live annoyances or belligerent sexual tension. But I really was obsessed with this, like I was the girl reading Terra bashing fics 😭😭 they were so cute, the Beast Within was ship gold, Nevermore, the fact that she holds onto to the penny he gives her when she ‘dies’ and oh he only turns into the Beast again to protect her from Slade and never again. Beautiful

10. Jimmy/Cindy from JN. They may have only been nine but sheesh the rivalry to lovers or in this case crushes was intense. Cindy was down bad since day one but she hid that shit so well. The Valentine’s Day episode still makes me giggle like a kid. And the last episode where they’re legit just straight up flirting with each other I can not. When she almost confesses when he’s the orange hulk. So cute.

like it’s much more nuanced but at its core they both left so why doesn’t she get the same understanding of her mistakes as he does

I knowwww….. Eddie Shannon and Maddie all left their kids at some point for various reasons it’s just a theme this show is interested in exploring…. And sorry Eddie but I’d even argue she had better reasons to leave than he did………. The tragedy of Shannon is that she died before she got the same chance to grow past her mistakes that everyone else on the show gets… I think in the years since its happened her death has been made interesting by getting to show us the long lasting complications of grief, but I cant help but wonder if her dying has kind of reinforced the opinions of people who think she’s a terrible person. Like, a ‘she was so bad and irredeemable she had to die’ kind of thing. Because like theres two kinds of dead people on this show, the angelic lost loved ones who never did anything wrong (Marcy and the kids, Emmet) and the evil villains who will never change or grow (Doug, Jeffrey, arguably the cruise ship guy). So I guess I can see why they’d sort her into the second category and think thats fine because they’re using the show’s own flawed logic of like… you can redeem the good guys because we like them and you cant redeem the bad guys because we dont. I dont know!! Shrug!

Things I hate in Harry Potter Fanfictions

This are the tropes I found multiple times in lots of different fanfictions and I got fed up with how illogical, overused and badly written they are :/

Completely changing the story to the point where I’m starting to wonder if it’s even Harry Potter because the only thing that stayed the same are the names.

( If it’s ships ) When one or both sides are already in love with each other ( in this cringy “I always loved him/her ) especially on what normally would be considered enemies to lovers. If I’m reading a story especially with a non canon ship I’d want to know how they’ve came to be, how the love blossomed. Or at least a reasonable explanation of why the character loves the other from the start of the story.

( If it’s Dark Harry ) The: One morning Harry wakes up and decides ah fuck it I’m changing sides “I care not for your good side anymore, now I’m going to be evil” and Voldemort is like “Oh well- guess I won’t kill him then, never mind that it was my obsession for the last decade and more, It changed today”

Evil-Good Harry…? Honestly I hate this trope soooo much. The: Voldemort was good from the start and it was Dumbledore that was truly evil and he manipulated Harry and/or he was the one who killed Harry’s parents. “Yeah, no like Voldemort is a pretty good guy. He can even be considered as a role model of being good if we ignore all of his other/earlier victims and people he tortured. I mean- I don’t see any evil right?”

Ron, Ginny and Hermione bashing because why not ( this happens especially often with Slytherin Harry fanfics). I don’t mind if some characters get their negative traits explored but make it real people, I can’t read a story where those characters act so bad and OOC for no actual reason. And no Harry being in Slytherin isn’t a reason because those characters never bullied and harassed anyone purely because they were a Slytherin. Yes they did not like this house ( for a good reason might I say ) but they never even acted out on Malfoy who was openly bullying them, the only situations we get where Malfoy and his friends got attacked by Ron and/or Hermione were deserved, and were responses to his provocations.

( If it’s not in order to hide his identity ) Changing Harry’s name. I can understand using Hadrian or Harris as the elongated versions of Harry but when someone straight up changes his name and now I’m reading a story about Daniel or Bob or something for no apparent reason then the whole thing seems stupid and illogical for me.

When Draco and Snape liked Harry from the start. Draco was a narcissistic, spoiled little child and he wasn’t nice to Harry both when he knew who he was ( train ride ) and when he didn’t ( Madam Malkin - their first meeting ). He expected admiration and friendship from Harry like if he had earned it. Making him be like a best friend from the very start is non sense, those boys would need time to come together, and with Harry’s personality I bet they’d still have a silly rivalry if they were in the same house. Same with Snape, like there’s no way he would tolerate Harry let alone like him. He hated Harry from the moment he saw him in the great hall and even before the boy went to Hogwarts. For Snape and Harry to like each other there would need to be a very good reason and it wouldn’t come immediately, but with lots of time and more interactions between each other.

Too much muggle stuff in the magical world. I don’t mind it if a lot of the story plays out in the muggle world or some muggle stuff is crucial for the story point but when I read a fan fiction where Harry was in St.Mungos and he was being treated the muggle way I lost it and dropped the fic. Like are you really going to put full on muggle medical equipment in a gigantic wizard hospital and make your healers use almost only muggle diagnostic methods? Most Wizards barely have any proper knowledge on muggles, and even muggleborns don’t know that much since they are introduced into wizarding world at a young age and basically spend the rest of their life in it. They have a lot more knowledge about muggles than pureblood wizards but it’s still not THAT much.

Overpowered Harry. The „Lord Potter; Black; Peverel; Gryfindor; Slytherin; etc… etc.. :/ nothing wrong with powerful Harry. I like powerful Harry. But it’s ridiculous that a child, a 11-15 yo boy would just instantly have more magical power than Merlin himself, and he would immediately know what to do with it

Gringotts knows everything about you. The „heritage tests” and all. Making a good use of Gringotts is amazing in fanfiction and I love exploring ideas people have on it but this trope is not only overused but also dumb. I’m not talking about simple family linking that people use or like blood checking. I mean the young Harry goes to Gringotts and just with a drop of his blood it is instantly known that he is meant to be a lord of this and that and he owns such and such properties and he is hella rich because of all the vaults that were left to him. And also goblins being friendly. These creatures do not like wizards.

Know it all Hermione. But like literally. Hermione being so overglorified and being literally smarter than Dumbledore and basically all Hogwarts staff often at age 11-16. She’s smart but let’s be real this is not possible. Like her being able to do anything in the world after “reading a book/going to the library for a bit”

Harry being the most handsome, ripped and freaking amazing Hogwarts student while literally being like 14 or 15.

Harem… Nothing bad with Harry having a flock of girls that are attracted to him ( this is canon ) but oversexualizing women in order to make Harry the girl-magnet that has 7 girlfriends and like all the „conventionaly attractive” witches around him - Hermione, Ginny, Fleur, Daphne etc.”

Harry hating Dumbledore from the beginning, blaming everything on the poor old man, being annoyed by the most stupid thing like: “Dumbledore smiled at him, and Harry went utterly furious” :// and generally Dumbledore bashing

Child Harry behaving like an adult and teenage/mature Harry behaving like a child. Why would a 11 yo go to Hogwarts and suddenly be a master manipulator, know exactly what to say to get out of difficult situation and can outsmart his peers and/or adults to show „how much better he is”. And the other situation: Harry being completely clueless, using childish language, being referred to by others as “little one, pup etc.”

All Slytherins are misunderstood angels. No they aren’t! As a Slyhetin myself I can recognize Draco’s ( and his friends ) bullshit when I see it! Yes stop the stereotype of “All Slytherins are bad” but do not excuse actually bad Slytherins.

Fics gloryfing toxic pureblood culture. Exploring different aspects of the culture, the better and worse ones is cool and creative but I’ve seen a lot of fics gloryfing what is just abusive and toxic and romanticizing it in the name of “pureblood customs/traditions”

Guns… just no… like what? It’s like how to tell you’re American without telling you’re American. I hate seeing guns in HP and the wizarding world, and the often following glorification of this weapon

Excessive American English. I don’t mind it much if it’s just some words but please all the slang and common words from American English are annoying. It’s not that hard to do a little bit of reaserch of the common differences in some words. The story is played ( mainly ) in the United Kingdom, the language used by characters should be British English ( like Harry & Hermione ) and Scottish English ( like McGonagall )

Excessive ( and especially if heavily described ) abuse from Dursleys that would have killed Harry at least 5 times before he would be 10. Like heavy beating, breaking bones, stabbing. I do not like reading such things and I found this in fanfics quite a lot….

Oversexualization of children 11-15. While exploring the sexual side of romance/life is okay in a teenager, it is a part of life, I hate seeing fics that oversexualize ships that at the time have characters aged 11-15 - literal children, especially oversexualizing young Hermione, in some Harmony fics ( where she was 14 ), or Ginny, with fics calling her a slut/whore because she had a crush on Harry, or when she’s a bit older because she dated a few boys.

Illogical use of Parseltongue. First of all Parseltongue is a language and Parselmouth is the speaker ( pls I beg don’t describe Harry as a Parseltongue ). But suddenly this language being like all powerful, and you can do wandless magic with it and basically perform any spell without ever using it before.

Luna being bullied by every Ravenclaw, ( like most of those ppl - especially the older ones or younger ones - do not actually care ) and her being like a super mega seer that knows all about the future and is actually super mega smart in her weirdness.

I don’t have much to say about favorite character, I’m literally in love with Howzer and I’ve never loved a character as much as him. for Chion, he’s just an asshole and that’s enough for me. He has a lot of potential as a character and I’m really excited for him in the series, I would not be his friend IRL though because he would literally be the worst person to be around. And you know what, everyone can hate him but I will always appreciate him😚💖Gilthunder, Diane and Donny are runner ups for fav character!

To be honest, I don’t TOTALLY dislike Ban but…idk. I don’t like him very much, but not only for the very obvious Elaine related reasons. Something he did at the beginning of 7ds kinda stuck with me, when he tried to kill Meliodas to get Elaine back. I guess it’s supposed to be, like, heartbreaking that he wants his woman back so bad he’d kill his best friend???? Mid battle???? Like girl this is not about you rn😭 Idk if my friend tried to kill me to get her boyfriend back, I think I’d have to kill her idk that’s just me😭 and I’m really sorry to the Ban fans because I know he’s a good character and I get that he becomes a better friend later, that scene just stuck with me though

I feel like this might not be a super unpopular opinion but I didn’t really like Escanor at first. Ig I just didn’t really care about him. I like his night time self, he’s very sweet and dorky. The thing I like about SUPER confident and cocky characters is them getting taken down a notch, which he was, twice, so it’s fine. For Tristan, I’m so sorry but I really didn’t care for him at all😭 Before I read most of the scenes with him in it, I thought he was SOOOO bland and boring. Like, he was just nice, and loved, and that’s it. He seems like a character that thinks everything is his fault, which isnt a problem with him or his character, I just don’t really like characters like that. I like that he looks more like Elizabeth, I think that’s nice. Anyway I like him now and I think he’s more complex than I thought before!

I dislike Guinevere for the obvious reasons that everyone hates her for so I don’t have much to say😭I guess to cover the least favorite ship category, I don’t like her and Lancelot together and that one scene was super weird. I like her design tbh, she’s super cute, but yeah…

I honestly don’t dislike Veronica, I just like her design more than her herself😭She’s super caring and sweet, and loyal, just very abrasive sometimes. When she interacts with people and her family especially, you can tell that she really cares, even if she’s kinda mean. Anyway I love da bob and her dress, it’s very cute😌 on the flip side, I like Tioreh herself WAY more than her design. I honestly cannot pin down what I don’t like about her design, I just really really don’t like it😭 I’m sorryyyyyy

For the fav ships, I don’t have too much explaining to do (I’m gonna keep saying that and I’m lying every single time). For Gilthunder x Howzer, I just really love the friends to lovers trope. Although a One-sided! Howzer x Gilthunder is probably more realistic. Anyway I love their friendship as it is :) To be honest I never liked rivals to lovers until this Chion x Donny phase I have going on right now, I have no explanation for this I just think they’re cute.

Elizabeth is super sweet, and honestly I don’t mind her voice, she is such a caring friend. Jade is just like, the most normal character I think ever so I would be his friends irl, probably😭

I would NOT be friends with Gowther, I feel like he would expose me so often, and like, one of my biggest fears is that someone is reading my mind, so he’s literally my nightmare, and I don’t wanna know him😭

I love the SPN fandom but honestly it’s so stressful sometimes 😭

For example earlier today I googled “Misha Collins girlfriend” because I heard a rumor that he has a girlfriend, I couldn’t find much besides stuff talking about Vicky so I scrolled down and saw a tumblr post saying something about Misha being attracted to men (which I don’t necessarily disagree with, but I don’t want to tell another person what they are) and women so I clicked on it and it was a huge post (like, a couple paragraphs) talking about some strange things. I don’t remember exactly but at one point the user brought up the “fact” that Misha makes jokes about women and sex?? As in making jokes at the expense of women… and I was like… are we talking about the same Misha here? He DOES make jokes about sex but I don’t recall him ever making jokes at the expense of women. Only thing I can think of is that one story about one of his earlier acting jobs and he didn’t know the “no tongue rule” but that was mostly at the expense of himself. Then I scrolled and found another post that was pretty disturbing…

Someone had screenshotted a regular instagram caption that Jensen posted just talking about how he just got done traveling, he wanted to take a nap, something like that—nothing sexual about the post at all or anything that would suggest that—and someone captioned it with something talking about him and Misha rubbing their [babymakers] together??? I audibly laughed out loud because wtf 😭😭

I don’t want to shame Jenmish shippers (I say Jenmish because Cockles is just a… very interesting name), even though I think it’s the slightest bit strange to be shipping real people… but again I never want to put anyone down for anything because I myself have said some stuff about Jensen and Misha that might suggest something between them.

Another thing is just the amount of hate for various cast members. Mostly the hate I see is for Jared and Misha; J2 fans who hate Misha, Jenmish fans who hate Jared, etc. There’s a lot of love in this fandom but ohmygOD there’s so much hate too. I guess that’s true for any fandom, but it’s so tiring sometimes.

Also, in this fandom, you’ll get hounded for any opinion you have. If you don’t like destiel, you’re homophobic. If you do like destiel, you’re also homophobic for some reason because queer bating or whatever… for the record i’d like to state that I am a proud destiel shipper just fyi. But I see so many people take it to the extreme, make little things into big things or something along those lines. Same thing with cockles shippers I was talking about earlier. I feel like I have a pretty neutral viewpoint on stuff regarding destiel; I see most things how they are, and I make my assumptions based on CANON things. I don’t say “Dean and Cas are definitely fucking”, I say “Dean and Cas love eachother but they cant express it, because Cas wasn’t even sure what love was and Dean’s highest ideal of love is family, which is why he says Cas is like a brother to him”. Now, if you don’t agree with me, guess what… that’s okay! If you don’t think destiel exists, that’s a valid point, and i’m not gonna dox you just because you have a different opinion than me. Because that’s just it, it’s an OPINION.

I could get into Sam haters and Dean haters and stuff… but I’m tired. Actually, you know what, screw it. I WILL GET INTO IT!!!

I’ve had a few experiences with Dean haters especially, and most of the time they just ADORE Sam and thinks he’s done nothing wrong. Let me clarify that I don’t hate Sam- like- at all. Then again, Dean haters who happen to be Sam stans have warped my view on Sam a little, but I won’t let that get in my way of honest judgment.

Sam. has. done. bad. stuff. DEAN. has. done. bad. stuff. Please don’t compare their trauma, they both have their own issues, one isn’t better than the other.

I might be biased because I relate to Dean so much (like a crazy amount it’s not even funny…), but for the millionth time in a row I DO NOT HATE SAM. I saw someone saying how Dean was the cause of almost every single world-ending event that happened in SPN… like honey no. Another person replied to their comment listing all of the world-ending events… and guess what… Sam was the cause of most of them!! Does that make him a hate-worthy character? No!!

I don’t know what point i’m trying to make here. I just think there’s so much in-fighting within the SPN fandom and as much as I love being in the fandom sometimes you just gotta have a break from all the drama. If you made it this far… go outside or something don’t pay attention to me i’m chronically online.

I have not done JJK, so I'll do JJK!!

The first character I first fell in love with: Yuji is my pink haired sunshine. Just as I said about Reki, I wanted to adopt him.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Hm... I feel like quite a few characters could go here. If I had to pick, like an unexpected answer, I'd say Yaga. He's actually a pretty cool character in my opinion and I still would like to fight the Higher-Ups!!

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: While I do like him as a villain and what he served to the story... I wouldn't say I'm the biggest Toji fan. Another character that comes to mind is Ryu. I haven't really seen anyone actually hype him up like that, but I actually don't care for him at all. His comment about Takako and Yuta "flirting" was like strike one for me. I think of him and then remember he has no chance to returning to the story and I smile. Thanks, Sukuna.

The character I love that everyone else hates: Speaking of! Okay, Sukuna is also a well liked character. I do, in fact, enjoy him as a character. I do. But I wouldn't say he doesn't deserve the hate he gets.

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I'll be honest, Kusakabe had lost some points with me. I still like him, but I guess because Yuji is my favorite character, he has lost points with me.

The character I would totally smooch: Yuki, my beloved. And you know what, Yaga deserves some smooches, too. Kaori also. I feel like she was an amazing woman and would have been an amazing mother.

The character I’d want to be like: Takako's look to her technique is top tier for me. She has no business being that cool, that gorgeous, that badass. I'm just saying, her anger is justified!! And I know it's not what the question is asking, but it's funny that the characters I would say I am most like is Choso and Miwa. Eldest siblings who just want to do their best for their younger siblings.

The character I’d slap: Amazingly enough, this could go to several characters but for various reasons. And most of those would go to the Zenin clan. The only ones I wouldn't slap from the Zenin clan is Megumi, Mai and Maki. Also, the twins' mother, I feel like she suffered enough before married into that family.

A pairing that I love: ItaFushi will have my heart. But I will also say, since they're on my mind, that I think MomoMai deserves a little more love. I cry when I think of that ship because THEY COULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING SPECIAL!! Like, if we're talking tragic ships, let's also bring up them!

A pairing that I despise: It would be easy to say certain ships, they're just not my thing. I will also say Gojo with Utahime. I'm sorry, but that woman despises that man for justified reasons. I don't like the whole "she's confused about her feelings" thing. She was also annoyed with Geto and I don't see people shipping them. It's not even a ship I despise just annoyed with because I can go into the SatoSugu tag and it will be there (blocked so many accounts) and sometimes I feel like some people don't really care for Utahime unless to prove "Gojo is straight".

Thoughts on tua s4e5 and the start of the season - spoilers ahead

So, Five/Lila. I wanted to share what I thought ever since I watched episode one of season 4, and then I forgot to do it and I saw more eps so this will be less detailed than I wanted.

My first idea was to do two analysis of Five and Lila, one in-media and out-media. However I found that in-media the show wrote them well over the season and you do understand why they get closer and eventually together in episode 5. I had been spoiled about it before I watched so I was looking for signs but it was well done. No comment about that, it doesn’t feel forced for them this season.

I guess my biggest critic is out-media: why? why did the writers do that. (I’ll admit I didn’t read the comics so I don’t know if the show just made it up. If not, I’ll have a contract on your head mr way). I’m not a fan of breaking a ship apart, and I fail to see the reason for them to do that. I mean, diego babysitting stan in s3 showed he was ready to have a more stable life with lila. and then suddenly they can’t stand each other? ok, transitioning from assassin to full time parents has gotta be rough, as lila put it, but it means they need to work on what they want in their marriage. this rocky diego/lila situation is not my thing.

And then to compensate and have a taste of her old actionful life she gets with five? A man that’s both older AND younger than her? it kinda weirded me out from her. As much as I appreciate their love-hate dynamic I don’t like it turning into actual romantic stuff. And from five’s pov… it’s hard to think he would do that to his brother. I’m not gonna talk about my aroace five headcanon, that’s not the right time, I’m just confused that five who I believe to be a stand-up guy, would get with a married woman. And the thing I hated most so far is when she wanted to leave and he’d rather she stayed, he hid the cypher thing from her. He was also very possessive when they argued about it and ugh.

It’s a strange situation. They’ve been stuck in the reality subway for years, does it make their thing okay? I wonder, in-media, what would have happened if they didn’t get trapped there. I guess we’ll never know. (I really thought the ship with five we would get to latch onto the most would be with his assistant, Derek. but I was wrong.) I’m gonna watch episode 6 tomorrow night, and I’m intrigued to see if they’re gonna get out (I think they will) and how both of them are gonna behave towards Diego. Lila was clear she wanted her children back so I believe she’ll go back to the suburban life she will now appreciate, and five will keep the secret too but will always be in pain because he can’t be with the woman he loves yada yada yada I’m not being original and I hope the show surprises me.

I wonder if some people shipped five and lila before this season. I genuinely hope they’re happy. I’m not interested in ship wars, I just know if my ship became canon I’d be excited. peace and love on planet fandom.

people (including my interactive storytelling teacher) have told me im good at writing distinct characters/realistic dialogue! so i guess that! :,D

CONSISTENCY. finishing things. ending up hating what i’ve written like 3 months after it’s done.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

well,,, that’s what i always do. english is another language to me! cop out answer, lmao. but other than that, i guess i could be persuaded to write a few lines in spanish here and there. did study it for 7 years, after all.

overall, i thinks it pretty cool! as long as there is an ez translation somewhere, easy to understand without a translation, or if it’s not done in a way that bi/multilinguals absolutely would not speak B)

CHAPTER 9

“Hello?”

“Did you really follow Rocky to his college?”

“Yes, Fixon and guess what? I found what I was looking for.”

“What do you mean?”

“Keep the CCTV footage ready. I know exactly who that is now.”

San entered the headquarters and headed straight towards Mingi’s workspace. Wooyoung was about to say something to him but he zoomed past him so fast that he couldn’t get any words out in time. 

He burst into the room, startling Mingi.

“Holy shit, San! Couldn’t you have knocked like a decent human being?”

“We don’t have time for that, Mingi! Did you pull the CCTV footage or not?”

“I did, I did! So demanding, my God!” Mingi grumbled while he opened the footage. 

The video that was playing on the screen was the recorded footage that showed a view of the museum from a telephone pole a street away. What the two men were focusing on however, was that one window on the first floor. The same window Jongho opened to help Sohyun escape that night. Because the video was recorded from so far away, the figure jumping off from the window wasn’t clear to them. 

“That’s Jongho’s girlfriend, Soyeon or whatever her name is.” San spoke up.

“She’s his best friend, San, and her name is Sohyun. You never really pay attention do you?” Mingi sighed. “And how the hell will that be Sohyun? She’s an ordinary college student. We ran a background check on her, remember?”

“She isn’t just an ordinary college student. It’s more serious than you think, Mingi-yah. She was the spy we spotted that day and the same spy that we’re seeing Jongho help.” San pointed at the screen.

“And not just that. She’s part of the NDA. Jongho and her were talking about this today and unsurprisingly, he said nothing and put her before us, again.” he said, begrudgingly. 

“NDA? Damn.” Mingi cussed out. 

“Well, even if she is a spy, there’s probably more to this than we know. Jongho wouldn’t intentionally put us in danger, don’t you think?” He tried to reason with him.

“You’re way too soft, Mingi. Jongho helped an NDA member escape when she saw him and very well knew he was a part of Black Pirates. Even today they were making amends when both of them knew they were enemies. I’d say that’s foolish of Jongho for letting such a thing happen, and then hiding it from the rest of us when we clearly needed to know about such crucial information.” San’s voice got louder.

 “Also, how much do we actually know about this girl? Deeming her trustworthy just because she’s Jongho’s best friend is utter stupidity, Mingi! How do you know she’s not going to use the information against us? Or do something else with the fact that Jongho’s a part of us?” 

Mingi listened quietly, not uttering a word. 

“You don’t Mingi-yah, you don’t know that. In order to make things right and keep fighting for our cause, we need to do what’s right and tell Hongjoong-hyung what’s going on.”

The office was dim, the light in the centre not doing much to brighten up the room. Hongjoong was lounging in his chair, legs propped up on the table. 

The artifacts were all delivered to their rightful owners safely, which relieved him a bit. 

His phone dinged, which he picked up to see an email sent to one of his many fake email accounts. He skimmed through the contents of the email, scoffing and throwing the phone back on his table. It said that he was fired from the curator position of Seoul Artistic Museum for letting five of the most valuable artifacts of the branch go missing. With that, the mission was successfully carried out, without any loose ends. 

Or so he thought.

Hongjoong heard someone knock on the door, allowing them to come in. 

San came in along with Mingi, with the laptop in hand.

“Hyung, we need to tell you something important.” San started. 

“Alright, should I call the others too?” Hongjoong said while he brought his legs down to sit properly. 

“Uh, I don’t think that’s necessary. Because, some of the members might object even before I finish saying what I want to say.”

“Okay then, what is it?” Hongjoong inquired. 

San proceeded to tell him what he heard and saw, while Mingi showed him the CCTV footage. 

Hongjoong’s mind drifted to the girl he had seen a few times in passing. She did look pretty harmless, cute even, based on her demeanour and the background check they ran on her, but he did notice her sharp calculating eyes, that seemed like it could see right through someone. He always brushed it off as her being naturally observant due to having CS as her major, but what San just told him about Sohyun being a part of NDA, it suddenly made a lot of sense.

“Hm, interesting.” Hongjoong closed the laptop and looked at San. “But San, don’t we already know where Jongho’s loyalty lies? He had been very clear to us about the fact that Sohyun will always be of equal priority to him, since the very beginning. I agreed to that as well, so I don’t see why I have to break my promise to him.” 

“But hyung, that was before she turned out to be a spy! How are you not seeing the threat looming above our heads!” San raised his voice, exasperated. 

“Has she done anything potentially harmful to us? Did you find anything, Mingi?” Hongjoong directed his question to the man beside San. 

“No, hyung. There wasn’t any disruption.” He replied. 

“See? You did say you saw them making amends, so I assume it’s mutual. If she’s anything like what Jongho describes her to be, she won’t throw him under the bus.”

“But hyung–” Hongjoong put his hand up to stop San from speaking further. 

“Let me finish, San. I am not saying I trust her. I will take action if she poses a threat to us in the future. Seeing how she figured out when we conducted the raid, she will probably not sit still. Also, Jongho’s not dumb, he’ll know when to fight back. If he doesn’t, then I’ll see to that as well.” Hongjoong sighed. “Just because you have a hard time trusting people does not mean they can’t be trusted, San. I don’t trust her, but I trust Jongho. So I’ll let this go for his sake.” He said in a softer voice. 

San nodded at that and took his leave, Mingi following him. 

“Hey, if it eases your nerves, I’ll try to find more info on her and see if she’s worth worrying over or not ok?” Mingi patted San on his shoulder before retreating to his room. 

“What do you think about Jongho’s best friend?” San asked. 

Wooyoung looked up from the vegetables that he was dicing to raise an eyebrow at him.

“All of a sudden?” 

“Just say it.” San folded his arms.

Wooyoung resumed his cooking and said, “Well, she’s nice, friendly and attentive but I doubt that’s what you wanted to hear from me.” he smirked. 

“You know me.” San said with a smirk of his own. 

“As much as I’ve seen her and interacted with her, she seems like she holds back sometimes and is conscious about her words. Her stance is strikingly similar to Jongho at certain times, because I know how much he struggles to hide stuff from her. So it’s almost as if she’s hiding something as well, but Mingi did run the background check and it did show that she’s harmless so…”  Wooyoung shrugged. 

San remained quiet, even after knowing that she’s not entirely harmless.

“But I never sensed any bad intentions from her, if that’s what you wanted to know. She always seemed genuine about Jongho and she really values their friendship.” he added.

“Do you trust her?” San asked after a pause.

“If Jongho trusts her, I trust her too.” Wooyoung smiled at San.

 “She might have stuff that she hides or it might just be me psychoanalysing it, but can we really blame her? Jongho hides stuff from her too, does he not? Albeit for his own sake and Captain’s orders but he does!” He exclaimed while putting the stew on the stove to cook.

 “Plus, y’all trust me right? My job is literally conning people! I specialise in making people think I’m a different person as required for missions. I’d be the last person on anybody’s trusted list.” Wooyoung laughed. 

“Maybe, but you’re also the best person to fish out liars as well, because it’s your job to lie to others.” San replied, laughing along with him. 

“Exactly. That is why, you don’t have to worry about Sohyun. She’s not a bad person, that much I can say. Seonghwa hyung and I don’t just pretend to like her, we really do.” Wooyoung said, redirecting his attention to the pot on the stove.  He was reminded of all the interactions he had with the said girl, as 'Yeon', the cook of Treasure Cuisine, while Seonghwa posed as 'Song', the owner.

The sound of water filling up the tub was quite loud, ricocheting off the walls of the bathroom. 

San ran the tap of the basin and splashed water on his face, before looking up to see his reflection in the mirror. 

His mind started fleeting to a memory, years ago.  A memory that he wanted to forget, but it haunted him every now and then, reminding him of the pain and the betrayal. 

The scene replayed in his head like a looped video, making him relive the memory all over again, along with the emotions he felt, that seemed so fresh in his mind that he couldn’t believe it happened so long ago. 

“How naive of you to think I’d support you just because you’re family!” 

He grabbed the basin so hard, his knuckles turned white. 

“You’re the reason I’m like this, San! You always took away what’s mine, without even asking for it and here I was, begging and begging to be treated like how you were treated but I was made to suffer!”  He squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head, in hopes that the scene would stop tormenting him.

“Resent me all you want, baby brother” she mocked. “But, know that I’ll always resent you more.” 

“Please, go away!” He muttered on and on while shaking his head.

He gasped and heaved a breath when it ended, noticing the tub filled to the brim. He closed the tap before it could overflow and looked at himself on the surface of the water. 

He looked fragile, tears cascading down his face and into the tub.

Over the years, San trained hard to get better and stronger, so that he could exact revenge from the people that wronged him. He hated the naive, fragile boy he was before, that let people take advantage of his kindness to hurt him in return. 

The others knew that San’s hostility towards people was a coping mechanism that he developed due to his past experiences, and that he was a great guy once his trust was earned. 

But the rude and condescending attitude he showed to anyone that wasn’t a member of Black Pirates was sometimes annoying for the others to deal with. 

San knew that, but every time he wanted to give someone a chance, his past came back to haunt him and remind him why he was unable to trust others. 

Mingi couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He sat there, trying to comprehend the situation. “I have to let Hongjoong hyung know about this.” he muttered to himself, while transferring the file to his laptop. 

He knocked on the door impatiently, Hongjoong allowing him to go in. 

Upon entering, Mingi spotted Seonghwa standing beside the Captain’s chair. 

“Uh, Hongjoong hyung, can I discuss something with you? Alone?” Mingi said while fidgeting. 

Hongjoong raised an eyebrow towards him, but told Seonghwa to go out for a minute. 

Seonghwa sensed urgency in Mingi’s voice, so he held his arm and gave it a light squeeze. Mingi looked at him with a small smile, acknowledging his effort to calm him down. 

Once he was out of the room, Mingi opened his laptop and placed it in front of Hongjoong for him to read. 

Hongjoong started reading the file, confusion evident on his face. As he read more and more of what was written, his expression changed to one of shock. Once he was done reading, he wasted no time and pressed the button of the intercom. 

“Shadow to Captain’s office. I repeat, Shadow to Captain's office.” 

“What will you do about this, Captain?” “I never thought she’d be involved with him of all people. We’ll just have to bring her in and interrogate her.” Hongjoong replied. 

“But hyung, what about Jongho?” Mingi inquired. 

“He’ll just have to be unaware about this for the time being. If what I’m seeing on the screen is true, then I won't be able to keep my promise to him.” Hongjoong said, with a grim face. “Captain, may I come in?” San asked from the other side of the door. 

“Yes, San come in please.” 

Once he came in and closed the door, Hongjoong spoke up again. 

“Go and bring Kang Sohyun in, but make sure she’s not injured in any way. I’ll inform Yeosang to give you something that’ll make her unconscious.” 

“Yes, Captain.”
