The demon Laios/priest Chilchuck art reminded me I started writing a fic like that a little while ago, but I don't think I'm likely to ever finish it, so here, you can have what I wrote:
This had to be a test. Chilchuck could think of no other explanation for the demon being put into his care.
He became a man of the cloth to avoid such deplorable creatures and the sinful activities they promoted. Why would his elders give him a demon to watch over, if not to test his sanctity, his strength of will, his devotion to the scripture? No matter what tricks this foul creature employed, he could not allow himself to slip.
He would not indulge, no matter how sweet the delicacy.
And Lord Above, was the demon a delicacy. Tall and broad, thick ropes of muscle on display in each barren limb, and an ironically innocent face: curious yellow eyes and short blonde hair. A pair of curved, black horns and a sleek tail to match. Clawed hands and hooved feet. Golden hair dusting his chest, thicker down his stomach, thickest where he let his most unsavory parts hang freely in the open air.
(Chilchuck did not look at it. Did not, momentarily, try to calculate the geometry of trying to fit a member of that girth inside himself. Did not feel a flutter of warmth, deep in his traitorous gut, when he thought of it stretching him wide, burning like the fires of hell as it forced its way inside.)
“You will wear clothes while you live in my house, you understand me, demon?” Chilchuck said as he searched his closet for something large enough for him to wear.
“Aww, but I don’t like wearing clothes,” the demon said, pouting at Chilchuck as he took a perch next to him, legs bent and hands on the ground. Chilchuck was ever-so-slightly taller than him like this, and he frowned down at the creature like it was a petulant child.
“You are my charge and I am your keeper. You will follow my rules or I shall have to punish you,” he told him.
The demon smiled condescendingly.
“You forget that demons love to be punished,” he said.
Chilchuck narrowed his eyes.
“What, did you think I would spank you? I shall have you recite verses and scrub floors. Perhaps even be chained to a stool and made to watch paint dry.”
The demon didn’t look quite so confident anymore.
“I suppose I can… wear some clothes. If I have to.”
Chilchuck grinned, triumphant, and finally procured an old robe that was much too large for him. It was meant to be oversized, a dark outer layer that could cover the rest of his garments, but even then it was two sizes larger than it needed to be.
“Here, you can wear this,” he said, tossing it to the demon, who obediently pulled the robe over his shoulders and crossed it over his middle, buttoning it up the side as far as he could get it to go. It was extraordinarily short on him, though at least it did conceal the offensive bits, and the shoulders were not wide enough to accommodate him, so he had to leave the last two buttons open, his chest hair broadly on display.
“I’ll have to get something made in your size, I suppose, if you’re to stay here…” Chilchuck rubbed his chin. “But this works for now.”
Chilchuck tucked the closet shut and walked out of the room, the demon following with an all-too-eager look in his eyes.
“I’ve got work to get done, you know,” Chilchuck told him. “You can’t just follow me around all day.”
“Yes I can,” the demon said. Chilchuck glared at him, but couldn’t think of a comeback.
“Fine, but don’t disturb me, or I’ll find some chores to keep you occupied instead,” he eventually told him. The demon nodded, lumbering after Chilchuck as he walked down the hall to his study. The ceiling of his house was almost too short for the demon, who was over a foot taller than even the tallest men Chilchuck knew, so he walked with his head bowed. Chilchuck, meanwhile, was ruefully short. He liked to say he was 5’ 5’’, but he was really more in the realm of 5’2’’.
(When he went into seminary, his college friends liked to joke that he was only doing it because the vow of celibacy would be easy, considering no woman wanted to date him, regardless. He didn’t talk to those friends much anymore.)
#I was kinda going back and forth about the lore#but decided to go for human chilchuck#and maybe a modern-ish setting? but idk#I was getting too caught up in that#I just wanted them to fuck#chilaios

The wizards said the orangutan would be able to lead them back to the dungeon in a couple days.
What a sentence, Chilchuck thought. It seemed to him that he’d been saying a lot of things with full sincerity that weeks ago would’ve been total gibbering nonsense.
The others had wandered off into the city like tourists. Laios was spending the day in some kind of pet shelter for dragons. Senshi had mentioned bringing Izutsumi to check out the local dwarven cooking. Rats were apparently involved, to his total lack of surprise.
He had decided to hole up in the nearest bar that would accept a fistful of foreign coins. He was at the stage of buzz that felt as though someone was wrapping a woollen blanket around his head, and it was loosening his tongue.
“And he’s a good kid,” he was saying. “He’s a good kid, he’s even a good fighter, but he’s got all the social skills of a dead donkey. This is a guy who hears that he has to eat part of his sister, and the first thing he says is-”
THE EGG IS PLACED ON TOP OF THE BACON?
He paused mid-ramble and blinked stickily at the stranger seated next to him. “Sorry?”
WHAT STRUCTURAL SUPPORT DOES THE BACON OFFER THE EGG?
He blinked again. “It’s for,” he tried. “You know. So you can eat the egg and bacon at the same time.”
INSTEAD OF CONSUMING THE ELEMENTS OF THE BREAKFAST SEPARATELY.
“Right.”
BUT IN THIS EXERCISE, YOU WISH TO REMOVE THE EGG FROM THE BACON.
“Right — right! The idea is if we take away the half of Falin that’s a dragon, we can resurrect the human half of her.”
THUS UNFRYING THE EGG.
He screwed an eye shut and tried to make out the face of the stranger through the three images swirling in the hot, lightheaded haze. It looked like a very skinny face.
“I’m starting to lose the food metaphor,” he mumbled. “My point is, the further we go to fix this problem, the worse it gets. And it’s not that i have a problem with resurrection — have you ever been resurrected?”
NO, BUT I HAVE BEEN WITNESS TO PART OF IT.
“Some people are weird about it. Senshi’s weird about it too, but he’s the one who suggested it. Anyways, it’s not that I have a problem with resurrection, I just don’t like the idea of eating an old coworker.”
Another sentence that would have been nonsense barely a week ago. He tried to shrug and missed. “I guess they say, ‘Eat to live, don’t live to eat.’
A STRANGE THING TO SAY. A PARADOX OF SOME KIND, I’M SURE.
He was beginning to feel a slight headache. “No, it means, like — treat food as a fuel, a necessity, don’t get fussy about the experience of eating it.”
THEY ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. The stranger plucked a paper umbrella out of their drink. They twirled it thoughtfully between very skinny fingers. I WOULD RECOMMEND A CURRY, they said. I’VE ALWAYS BEEN FOND OF A CURRY.

something i think is really interesting about dungeon meshi is the cast's respective views on food as the story progresses. the way many adventurers get through the dungeon is to eat when they Must, but mostly rely on healing magic to keep going when they're tired or beaten down. death is something you can buy your way out of, here.
having these lower stakes when it comes to running yourself too hard has made a lot of people in this setting kind of devalue food and what it does for you.
im not all the way through the manga yet, but so far i really like how it goes about debunking that mindset.
long post under the cut, cw explicit discussion of disordered eating. textual depiction of unhealthy methods of dealing with it. please be cautious!
it seems like to most folks, food is either a decadent luxury, like when the governor offers mr tance a feast as a show of power and wealth, (although he is the only one who actually eats in that scene as he talks about his ambitions);
[id: the governor and mr. tance talk politics and hierarchies, while the governor eats from a bowl. mr. tance's meal is not visible behind a speech bubble.
"so you believe the sorceror is an elf?" he asks.
"i can't say with absolute certainty," mr. tance replies, "but the spells are not ones dwarves and humans typically use." /end id]
like the painted-royal feasts laios tries to partake in that never actually nourish him...
[id: laios, fresh out of the living painting feast, surprisedly holding his grumbling stomach /end id]
or, to the working class, it's pretty much exclusively fuel. i'm thinking about the scene where kabru's party, ostensibly intended to be our view into how adventuring Typically goes for most people, is shown preparing to go to the dungeon by like. walking up to someone and ordering 'a weeks' worth of rations.' purely functional.
[id: kabru enters a store, and the merchant says "welcome!"
kabru says "i need a week's worth of rations for six, and two days' worth of water."
"sure thing." the merchant then reaches behind him and grabs a large cube-shaped package, wrapped in nondescript cloth and tied in place. it thumps onto the counter in front of them both. /end id]
when kabru hands mickbell his food for the trip, he complains about how heavy it is on his back. it's a necessary liability.
we also see chilchuck, in an early chapter where there isn't much food to go around, grumbling about how he used to be better at not noticing when he was hungry. he's frustrated that he's more attuned to his bodily needs, now that he's starting to fill them with regularity.
[id: chilchuck, the only one awake, sits in his bedroll and glares at the timekeeping-candle burning down in front of him while he listens to his stomach growl. moving to find his canteen and fill himself with water instead, he thinks to himself, "my stomach has gotten weaker. i used to be able to go two days without food." /end id]
(like im not even gonna lie this is a big mood. the healing process is really really annoying)
even laios, early on, working out the logistics of going back for falin, considers his expenses and ultimately the thing he decides to save money on is their food supply. like, even the guy most invested in eating as an experience kind of just assumes he will Figure It Out. its what hes eating, not how hes eating it that matters to him at that point.
[id: marcille looks down at the ingredients they've gathered, the walking mushroom and the scorpion in an unappetizing heap on the ground, and asks laios "so how exactly do we eat them?"
he responds "let's just cook them, like normal." /end id]
but its here that senshi introduces the idea of food as art and as healing. its exciting and its fascinating for laios, getting to taste the creatures hes been reading about and fighting, but i dont think it would ever really help him feel full if not for this.
[id: three panels of laios tasting the scorpion hotpot, looking stunned, and then excitedly telling senshi "delicious!"
senshi matches his energy, asking "isn't it? isn't it?" /end id]
pictured: guy who had resigned himself to kind of just doing his best rediscovers the joy in something tasting really fucking good
what they did last time isnt going to work. falin is gone, and constantly anesthetizing their pain and healing through their weakness is no longer a realistic option for the party. in order to make it through they must all relearn how to eat well, one by one and as a group over and over again, because its either that or nothing.
one of my favorite depictions of this idea thus far is when marcille is seriously low on health and mana, and both of these problems are mitigated by taking care of herself, and trying to get iron and protein
[id: marcille, looking sickly, wakes to laios saying, "marcille, marcille, can you sit up? we've got something nice for you."
she watches senshi grill pieces of kelpie liver on a low fire, while laios ties a bib around her neck. /end id]
and drinking a bunch of dead water spirits. she gets the idea, she's supposed to get in nutrients and it'll help her feel better, but in aiming for the quick, inefficient fix, namely chugging that shit down like she heard it was good to Stay Hydrated and decided that would be the thing that fixes her,
[id: marcille throws back a cup of boiled undine-water, her face red. laios asks, "do you really need to drink it that fast?"
she gasps out "...the magical energy stored in nature spirits is actually quite hard to absorb. even if you drink a lot, the majority of it is excreted without being absorbed," and takes another drink. "that's why i need to drink as much as i can."
laios says weakly "you'll get water poisoning," but marcille only stops when senshi puts a hand on her shoulder and says,
"it's easier to absorb nutrients if ye digest them with food. that's a fundamental rule of nutrition."
marcille says, "senshi..." contemplative
and he holds out a bowl of tentuclus and a thumbs up. "let's get cooking!" /end id]
she doesn't immediately realize the answer is that she needs more than that. she's been working hard. she needs care, and she needs nourishment.
once she gets that, though, she makes her boiled water into a stew, and she works to make that stew as good as she can, and everyone can have some.
because in dungeon meshi, to feed yourself or allow yourself to be fed is treated as performing a kindness for yourself. food is what propels you, but there is also an art and a joy inherent to the process of making it; in the way you feel when you've had enough to eat.
[id: senshi watches as chilchuck and marcille eat and excitedly hash out plans.
"i've got a good feeling about this! maybe it'll work out!" chilchuck says
marcille responds, "well it's easier to feel optimistic on a full stomach!"
senshi smiles, proud. /end id]
^^^ i want to put this image on my wall
when you're working through disordered eating habits, you really do have to keep learning this shit. (in my experience, learning about cooking is one of the best ways to do so.)
i'll have to see if my thesis holds up as i continue, but i think one of the reasons the portrayal here resonates with me so hard is that ryoko kui puts most of her characters at eye level with me on this. they're all working at it, too. the text and i are both commiserating, and encouraging each other, 'have some more, you'll feel better.'
#its late -_- idk if this fullly gets across what i mean but ive been thinking about this for weeks#dungeon meshi#recovery#cooking tag#disordered eating cw#im on chp 31 atm but im like. squinting and steepling my fingers looking for this theme as i go now#meta

okay, general list of different spellings I’ve seen in the dunmeshi fan translations
laios- has never been spelled differently in my experience. that’s bc ライオス is very easy to transliterate lol. (raiosu)
falin- farlin/farlyn were the most common! falin was actually a pretty unpopular/scrapped translation from my memory lol. i think her name is just ファリン (falin) though so. yeah it is the most literal one. i still like farlyn a little more though heehee.
now! their last name- now localized as “touden” was spelled “thorden” in the translation i read.
senshi- always been senshi. this is actually important for a small bit where Falin thinks his name is 戦士 (warrior), lol
marcille- surprisingly, she also had a few different spellings. it was really early in the fan translation so you don’t see a lot of people calling her anything other than marcille. it was like… marshille/marsille/marsil so not too different.
chilchuck- chilchack. i specifically remember a t/n saying they decided to go with chilchack over chilchuck LOL.
Thistle- Sissel. Thissel.
Shuro- THIS ONE IS SO FUNNY ACTUALLY. For a while in the translation I was reading Laios & co would call him “Sureau” WHICH. fuck makes later events so much better. I’m not sure how intentional it was on the translator’s part but it ended up working out if it wasn’t!
Other things:
-Tallmen got translated just as “human” before it became clear that it was the canon term for humans.
-I can’t remember exactly what name they chose, but one translator decided to localize Kensuke to something to sort of preserve the pun. For those who don’t know, naming a sword Kensuke is kinda like naming it “Sir Swordsington” lolol.
#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon#dunmeshi#ggp#that’s all I remember for now! lmk if you remember any other examples!

Yandere DunMeshi MBTI: Laios Touden
No one in the world requested this, I just think this man needs to be studied under a microscope and I can't quit rolling him around in my brain. Headcanons based on the Yandere MBTI indicator conceptualized by the lovely ddarker-dreams! Please send them love and feel free to request me for any characters. [Warnings: general yandere scariness]
CRUEL Vs. REVERENT Darling captures Laios's attention primarily because they are kind. They smile at his stories even if he's told them a hundred times before, they ask him questions about monsters and don't shy away when he pulls out a tome's worth of notes detailing each one. Darling always has a terrible look on their face when Laios is injured and has never once made him feel less than. To Laios, darling is the sun.
If darling is part of his party, they can expect to be doted on, fussed over, and guarded to a point where the only time they are truly alone is when bathing. Even then, Chilchuck has to constantly assure Laios that darling is absolutely fine, much to his chagrin. If they are injured or die, Laios almost becomes a different person for hours after they're revived. He's anxious, snappy, even hostile until darling can bring him back down with their calm nature.
If darling isn't in the party, they can still expect to see Laios nearly all of the time. Sometimes it doesn't quite make sense how Laios can go on so many trips to the dungeon and yet still have time to consistently be in darling's personal space on the surface. Darling can expect to receive souvenirs from the dungeon (mostly monster parts, always frightening) and letters about adventures that Laios will simply tell them again in person anyway. He'll insist on walking them home and greeting them in the morning before he leaves to the dungeons again.
AWARE VS. DELUSIONAL
All Laios knows is that the emotion he feels when the object of his affection is around seems measurably different than his love for his sister or love for his friends. Truth be told, there has always been a nagging worry at the back of his mind that he might never be able to feel for a human the way he loves adventuring or studying monsters. That he's doomed to a life of solitude surrounded by nothing that understands him. When darling comes along, they're like a beacon of light that tells Laios he's capable of being normal for once. After all, he finally feels the kind of love he's been lectured time and time again that he should be feeling at his age. A chivalrous need to protect, to treasure, to study and bring gifts and share meals and troubles and maybe, just maybe even taste and touch and devour- It's just what loving someone means.
MANIPULATIVE VS. HONEST
There is no need to manipulate darling because Laios himself doesn't feel that any of his behavior is wrong. He doesn't know how to be anything but himself, and any hint darling or others try to give him that maybe his interactions are bordering on unhealthy and obsessive don't reach him at all. If darling says they'd better get going, Laios is there to walk them home. If Marcille tries to tell Laios that darling is perfectly capable of taking care of themselves, he marvels at how talented darling is and then does nothing to change his behavior. If Namari outright tells him that he needs to give darling space, he'll nod seriously and then decide that sitting across from darling and not next to darling is sufficient. In Laios's mind, everything is perfect.
STRICT VS. LENIENT
As long as darling is safe, or what Laios deems to be safe, everything is fine. Darling can do what they want on the surface, talk to whom they want on the surface, go dungeoneering if darling is part of the party. Problems begin to arise when that sense of security wanes. The look of that gnome chatting with darling isn't one that Laios likes. As a tall-man, it's very easy to keep him from speaking to darling ever again. Darling wants to go on a trip to Kahka Brud, Laios is quick to insist that he come along. After a particularly nasty event in the dungeon, Laios might make it his mission that darling never venture beneath the surface again. Laios is harmless until threatened- that's when his brand of love becomes suffocation.

─── ・ 。゚☆: .☽ . :☆゚.───
Laios made a promise to never consume a demi-human, no matter the circumstances. It made sense, they were on the cusp of something that was human but not. They could have similar features like the races they respectively belonged to, could bleed red and have had a beating heart, yet in the end, they were still a monster inside and out. Morally or ethically — whichever which belonged to which — according to Chilchuck, it was still wrong to try and consume them.
He understood that completely once it got explained and stuck into his head, but then you came into question.
When you came into Laios's party during the search for his sister, you were almost attacked from how you meekly approached the small group in one of the dungeon’s levels. They were right to be cautious of course, many human-like monsters had previously attacked them when their guard was down, but once they realized you genuinely meant no harm, they let you join in. Marcille was overjoyed that another girl had joined the party, though both Laios and Chilchuck had their valid doubts about you. Senshi didn't really mind, long as you could pull your own weight and never tried to attack them.
Were you trying to play the long game? Did it make them taste better when you waited to strike? Were you eyeing your pick in the group? Senshi and him both have a lot of meat on their person, Chilchuck was definitely the least desirable since he was so small and had less meat on his body; to be honest, Marcille was in a similar boat as him too.
Food-wise, you ate whatever Senshi made with a happy smile, not even being deterred once from having to eat something that was considered to be closely related to you. He wondered if it was something you were used to, something that you had to be doing in order to survive down here. Then, if it came to other parties that came before them and being forced to defend yourself, did you ever had to... consume them?
Laios hoped it never had to occur, but he couldn't blame you if you had no other choice. He could imagine you being trapped for days before your kind could get to you, maybe one or two bodies from an adventuring party were with you from a previous scuffle and the pangs of hunger were getting to you. The thought of the remaining party members finding the torn apart limbs and strewn, chewed on bones surrounding a bloody starving monster made his stomach flip and a shiver go down his spine. Maybe it's because that's how he last remembered Falin right before she teleported them out of the dungeon, her midst of her body trapped in the toothy maw of that Red Dragon.
Because of this now since your alliance with them combined with the many questions in his head about your diet, there was one that he can't quite get rid of, no matter how much he tried.
What did a human taste like to a monster?
It's been a few weeks since they've ventured in the dungeon and Laios still had some doubts with your intentions for joining. A monster is a monster and cannot be trusted no matter what, but you didn't cause trouble or held them back from their search so he let you be... for now at least. He'd be a hypocrite for not letting you stay since he's been keeping Kensuke around, but it's only temporary and it can't really harm him without the other parts of the Living Armor. You're a moving... person? Half of one. Actually more a third-fourth of one? He doesn't quite know but still rather fascinated by your existence.
You were similar to them in conscious thought and speech, as well as appearance-wise. Well, appearance-wise, you definitely weren't human. Small, bilateral curved horns made their home on the sides of your head, floppy brown ears swung around with every step you took, a long bovine tail whipped around the bottom of your legs, and finally, your legs were curved into two thick cow-like stumps with hooves at the end as a replacement of feet. Minotaur, or that's what you said what you were, though you were smaller than those massive farm animal adjacent beasts, about a few inches taller than Marcille.
And not to sound like a perv or anything remotely similar to that, but you didn't really have udders either, unless your more than well-endowed breasts compensated for the lack thereof.
"Ow! Laios!" He snapped out of his thoughts, looking down at his metal shoe and seeing the fluffy end of your tail on the bottom of it.
"Oh, sorry." Slowly, he lifted his foot off of it, the appendage whipping around and twitching. It wrapped around your waist, almost completely hidden as a fuzzy brown and white belt.
"It's bad to get distracted here, are you hungry? Thirsty? I have some bread and milk in the pack if you want to snack on it." As you walked on forwards, you pulled the bag off of your shoulders and began to rummage through it with one hand. You finally found what you were looking for, handing it over to him without hesitation, slinging your bag back where it belonged. He stared at the milk as he chewed on the bread, the texture soft and light with each bite.
Did... did this come from you? You mentioned to them before in the beginning stages of joining that they can drink your milk if they needed to, but the horrified looks of both the elven mage and the Half-foot locksmith prevented you from trying any further. Both him and Senshi was of course curious, Minotaur milk was both difficult to come across and retrieve, but the two told the dwarf that they absolutely refused to eat anything that he cooked if it came from your body.
"Gross, don't tell me that came from you Y/N." Chilchuck grimaced as he walked on by and you shook your head.
"No! Of course not. I know you people humans are a little weird but I wouldn't give something that came from me without telling you. It's just cow milk, er... not from me." Laios felt a little disappointed as he opened the top of the bottle, wondering if it tasted different from normal cow's milk. According to the Dungeon Gourmet Guide, Minotaur milk was thicker and sweeter compared to the average cattle's; then again, this precious book of his wasn't really that accurate unfortunately.
What about your flesh?
He came to a sudden standstill, almost causing Marcille to bump into him.
"If you're gonna stop out of nowhere, at least move to the side Laios!" She grumbled, moving past him as he stood there in confusion. What was he thinking? Why would he even go so far as to think that? He started moving again, carefully watching you click on forwards. His mind began to wander at the thought again, which parts of you would be edible?
Your legs definitely, there's so much muscle built upon you there. He'd seen you strike down stone pillars and enemies in a single blow without even flinching. Maybe even your thin tail, could be tough and stringy though. Your ears would take a while to feast upon, cartilaginous but still a good source of protein. Horns are a no-go, too small and were most likely hollower than meaty. Cow hooves are a delicacy in some parts of the world, so it was possible that yours were consumable too.
Would the "human" parts of you count? You hadn't revealed if you were full or half-monster, maybe even if you were cursed, so it was hard to truly determine what you were. If you were a full monster, that meant that every bit and piece of you was edible meat.
Meat.
Meat.
Meat.
"Laios, you’re drooling! I can hear your stomach rumbling too," Your giggling voice rang clearly in his mind, his gaze snapping downwards as he wiped his mouth quickly. "I have more bread if you want."
"No, no. It's better if we stop now and make something more nutritionally beneficial to continue forwards," Senshi stopped with the two of you, turning his head around to find a suitable room for cooking. "Think I still have some of those Harpy eggs and Kelpie flesh, would you two be so kind to try and find some more ingredients on this floor? Any vegetation would do this meal some good."
And here the two of you were, walking around the floor's grounds to spot for anything of use. It was almost completely quiet minus the shifting of his armor and the clicks of your hooves echoing throughout the stone hallway, reducing that awkward silence just a little. Your weapon, a sharpened scythe, swung around on your back as if you were a cow grim reaper; the thought of a cow dressed up in a black robe with a menacing skull mask made him chuckle in his head a little.
"Oh! Up ahead, I see something leafy." The hoof-clicking went faster as you picked up your pace, ducking your head from the fallen wooden structures that were in the way. Compared to the average Minotaur, you moved and reacted quicker, most likely because of your smaller stature and having a little less muscle in your body to heave around. That could make you vulnerable on the other hand, having less muscle everywhere else minus your legs meant diminished strength and being unable to defeat enemies in a more timely manner. Interesting.
"Laios, do you think this enough for all five of us?" You shuffled out of the crevice in a huff with bundles of thick purple, triangular leaves in your arms and he took a pinch from one of the leaves, inspecting it before placing it in his mouth. He winced, his face contorting to a pucker as you laughed at his expression. Dungeon oxalis, edible but strongly tasted similarly to citrus.
"We could work with it, could make up for lemons since they're pretty sour. Here, place it in your bag and we can search for other things." You nodded after wiping your eyes from your boisterous laughter, following his instructions and getting back up from the ground.
You dusted yourself off before picking the bag back up, smiling at him as the two of you began to move deeper into the dungeon. "I hope we find some Night Lucernes but I think since we're already so low underground, it's getting more unlikely they can grow here."
"Oh we can't eat those, they make us sluggish and gives us stomach cramps for weeks."
Blinking at him, you tilted your head in confusion. He never noticed how long your eyelashes were, is that common in your kind? "Really? They're like vitamins for me or was it something about the blood—"
"Why are you not like the other Minotaurs?"
"Huh?" The question was out of the blue, interrupting her talking as the two of you had stopped in the middle of the hallway, eyes locked with one another.
"Why are you not like the other Minotaurs?" Laios repeated, not skipping a beat and leaning down closer to you. "You're not massively built, you don't have a cow's head, you don't have large horns. You don't strictly eat vegetation, is it even good for you to eat monster meat so often? There's so very few things that are Minotaur-like on you, are you really one of their kind?"
Your eyelids fluttered in shock, each question wrapping around your brain before you leaned away from him, scratching the back of your neck. "Well... I-I don't really know why myself."
"...What?"
"Uh yeah. One day, when I was still young, I woke up in this dungeon alone without a single memory in my mind. I don't even remember who named me either, but I vaguely remember being told that I'm a Minotaur. Maybe it's the Mad Mage's fault but I'm sorry Laios, I really can't explain why I'm not more like them."
Did that even satisfy his question on whether you were edible as a Minotaur or not?
"I do know is that I am a monster," You put a hand over where your heart is, clenching it tightly into a fist. "I ain't like you people humans and I'm sure not like those other animal humans you coexist with, so I am nothing but a monster. I may look a little different from my kind but inside and out, I have the Minotaur’s blood in me. And the strictly herbivore thing isn't really true, I can eat meat if I have no other choice to, it's not all that bad though. Doesn't really freak me out and I'm always grateful to have the opportunity to eat a good meal."
"So have you eaten other adventurers before meeting us? I won't judge, I'm genuinely curious and I won't tell the others if you have."
You froze, eyes casting downwards suddenly as your fists gripped onto the coat you wore. "I... I don't really want to talk about it Laios, sorry. I'll answer your other questions but some things are better left off unsaid, okay? Please respect that."
His lips were pulled into a thin line, the nagging voice in his head still ever curious on whether you've eaten human before, but you really did seem uncomfortable talking about the topic. "Sorry."
He then put a hand under his chin, thinking about what you've said previously slowly. Inside and out... Does that mean you are edible? I mean, you basically said it yourself, despite you being more on the human-appearance spectrum of monsters. Then again, they met more human-like monsters like the Harpies and the Dryads, and they've eaten them before! (Well... sorta.) The mermen were edible too (despite Chilchuck stopping him from taking more of the parts), so that means—
"Can I drink your milk then?"
"Wha— H-huh?!" The apples of your cheeks glowed a dark shade of red, but his gaze remained determined, sparkling in excitement even.
"You offered it before, didn't you? Chilchuck and Marcille aren't here so they won't judge us and I've been curious since my book said that it's different from normal cow's milk." You looked around, even peeking behind him, before sighing and bashfully pouting.
"I did! I know I did! But, I have to make it fresh since I threw out the ones I had on hand a week ago and I don't have any on my person right now so..."
"It's okay, I can wait." He bluntly replied, oblivious to your wording. Laios just wanted a little taste, nothing more and nothing less.
You mumbled something under your breath, his ears catching a few words of him being 'too eager' and 'quick to answer'. Was he? He was just answering your question honestly, and he’s been ever so curious about it ever since you’ve offered it before.
"Let me find a room, just wait outside for a bit."
You were flushed, clicking away to find a place to hide out so you could produce what he wanted. Of course he followed shortly after you left, staying outside just like you told him to and it would serve as extra security. If Minotaur milk tasted as good as they say, he might just keep asking you for it when some certain party members aren't nearby. Hell, he might even be able to sneak some to Senshi since he's been curious about it too! It's only right to share a magnificent discovery to the best monster chef. Actually, he might be the only monster chef he knew but he was still the best by default.
He waited.
And waited.
And waited…
Laios started to sit down next to the door due to how long you were taking to produce a small bottle. Was it difficult to get milk out of the body by yourself? He had to ask about that too since he’s only seen male Minotaurs depicted in his book; there was nothing but a small and vague paragraph that explained about the female Minotaurs, but it was mostly about their milk.
He closed his eyes, leaning his head against the stone wall. You really were a strange individual, someone that he can’t quite understand. Your very being makes his mouth salivate whenever he thinks about you as a next meal, even if it shouldn’t. Was it because all they’ve been eating has been monster-related? His strange fixation on trying them was slowly being satiated with every step down the dungeon, so he chalked it up to just being morbidly curious.
It has to be that reason, it must be, because what kind of sick individual constantly thinks about consuming his friend?
Opening back his eyes, he took another quick glance at the wooden door. Laios was extremely curious on how the whole process worked, if you really had extra udders or if the hidden parts of your body were furry or skin. Plus, you really were taking a long time, one of the three were bound to come over soon and he wouldn't be able to try the milk! Actually... you know what? What if you had gotten attacked in there by a whole group of Mimics?! Or any other monster group, like the ghosts! You were strong but you can’t take all of them at once, and monsters aren't able to revive here. Wait...
Monsters don’t revive here.
He scrambled up on his feet at the realization, quickly knocking on the door, the sound of stumbling and thuds causing him to immediately panic and start pushing it open.
"Are you oka—" Laios froze, his eyes widening.
Your eyes were wide open as well, mouth partially parted open in dumbfounded shock. At least you looked okay and it seemed there wasn't any harmful enemies around, just some old furniture that had fallen over. It's weird though. There you sat on the ground in the midst of the mess, one arm covering your bare chest while the other was holding a partially filled glass. He stood there in puzzlement as your face grew redder by the second, placing the glass down slowly before reaching for your weapon that was right next to you.
Oh.
Oh...
OH!
"LAIOS!!!"
"I'M SO SORRY!!!" He slammed the door back shut as the scythe made its way towards his head, the sharp blade slicing through the old wood, the tip just barely missing his nose. His heart pounded against the metal chest plate like a beating drum, his lungs completely drained of all air. He began to kneel on the ground for some support since his legs started to give out from the revelation. His body was burning up, like he just got lit on fire from the Red Dragon or was a little too close to one of Marcille's explosion spells.
He just saw you naked. Not completely, but still, he just saw your breasts. He was used to and never cared about seeing others nude or topless, whether they be male or female — monster or not — it's just parts but seeing you?
Despite being here for most of your life, the skin from what he saw was quite smooth and rather mostly unblemished. It's like scars weren't able to attach onto the surface, as if they weren't allowed to. And the curvature of your heavy breasts, the noticeable suppleness of both when you moved and inadvertently squeezed them with your arm. They weren't udders at all either like he thought they were, they were undeniably humanlike, no fur included. He imagined biting into them, wondering if it'll be easy to sink his teeth into the squishy fat while he sucked on both the spilling blood and milk, thinking about the mix of sweetness and tangy that'll occur if he did. He'd be especially lucky to leave any mark on your pristine skin during the process, his body tingling at the idea of being the only one — the only human — to permanently leave something behind.
Laios couldn't stop salivating, a hand over his mouth to prevent him from drooling all over himself. He's shaking, why was he shaking? Was it from the fear of these unstoppable thoughts of his? Because of the leaf he ate not a moment ago? No. It's because of these recent developments and the answers he was getting from them, he was becoming... excited.
What the fuck was wrong with him?
‘•.¸♡ ♡¸.•’'•.¸♡ ♡¸.•’'•.¸♡ ♡¸.•’
The door finally creaked open, a small glass bottle being pushed towards him from the barely ajar entrance. He looked up to where your head would be, your eyes nervously staring down to the side. You started to apologize in a soft mumble as you slowly revealed yourself, now completely dressed.
"Sorry for throwing my weapon at you earlier, but this is all I can give right now. If I had eaten Night Lucernes prior, it would've been better quality. Um... enjoy I guess?"
"Thank you for the drink." Laios smiled and took the bottle in his hands, staring at the liquid. It was warm, which was expected since it just came out of your body, and it wasn't fully white like he thought it would be, the color just had the faintest tinge of yellow that could be missed if he wasn't looking close enough. He took the glass's edge to his lips and finally, he took a small swig of it.
Sweet, precisely as he thought it would be, but not as overtly strong to make him sick or give him an immediate cavity. The book was right to say that it was thick, almost similar to a honey-like consistency but still light enough to not choke at the heavy feeling of it go down his throat. He didn't realize that he quickly drank all of it at once, his tongue running across his lips to catch any remaining liquid left. You said that this wasn't the best quality, but he couldn't imagine it being any better than what he just drank.
"That was..." Laios paused, smacking his lips to try and remember the taste once more. Your face slightly fell, eyebrows worriedly scrunching together. "Amazing!"
"R-really?" The slightly-afraid look melted off in relief, your eyes glowing in happiness. "No one ever said that it tasted amazing before... Actually, no one actually tried it before except you Laios."
He... he was the first one that tried your milk? The fleeting thoughts he had prior ran through his mind again, his cheeks flushing a slight pink. If he really was the first one that drank something of yours... then it's only right that it would be specially reserved for him right? It's really selfish of him to keep this amazing beverage from his dear party, but something like this should be cherished by the one that adores you the most.
He quickly grabbed your hands, holding them up as he squeezed them tightly in excitement. "Can I have more later? I won't tell our party, it'll be our little secret exchange between the two of us."
Laios watched your expression turned from complete shock to shy awe, your tail twitching around and thumping against your legs. You were silent for a bit before looking up at him, a determined glint in your eyes. "W-what's in it for me? I can't just be the only one giving you something.
Shit. That was fair of you to bring up but him as a normal Tall-man, there was very little he could give you in return for your breast milk. "What would you want from me anyway?"
His mind immediately went into the gutter: you wanted to eat something off of him. It could be considered a fair exchange, consumable body part for consumable bodily fluid. Maybe you were getting tired of eating monsters, needing your actual nutrition from people. He started to get nervous, what would he be able to give you from his body? Would a finger satiate you or would you need something larger? Laios can't really give up his arms or legs, he'd need them in order to get through the dungeon and save Falin. Tongue was completely out of the question, he can't imagine not being able to taste food in both normal and monster dishes.
The idea of giving you his dick to consume suddenly popped up in his mind, the thought of trying to cut it off caused him to pale. He didn't use it much compared to his other body parts, only needing it to use to take a leak; he wasn't really the sexually active type either, being able to count the partners he previously had on only one hand. Technically and hesitantly, that would be the only large body part that he can give up for you.
Briefly, he imagined how'd you eat it. You weren't an messy eater when it came to Senshi's food — despite having to learn how to use utensils but still preferring to make use of your hands — so you'd probably be as neat as possible with it. You'd eat it raw, as soon as he managed to slice it off his person, warm crimson slipping down your fingers as you bite down through the layers of skin and muscle.
Or there was the possibility that you wanted to take it off yourself, kneeling right down in-between his legs, hands slowly sliding up his thighs to his hips as you approached his lower half. He'd be forced to watch you take his soft cock into your mouth, probably struggling if he accidentally got hard during the process. The last thing that Laios would feel would be your mouth's warmth wrapping around it before chomping down.
A shiver went down his spine, though it didn't feel as horrid as it was supposed to be.
With your big lashed eyes, you slowly blinked once more as a small smile grew on your lips. "Knowledge. I want to learn about the outside world. I've never left the dungeon before, all the adventurers that came before your party prevented me from ever trying."
Oh... That's actually not a bad exchange request, simple in nature. At least he gets to keep his junk, despite his heart still pounding from what his fucked-up mind just mustered up.
"Okay deal. I'll teach you about my world in exchange for milk." He put out his hand, letting you reach out and shake it. Your eyes relaxed as you smiled warmly up at him, finally letting him go. Laios then went over and patted your head, rubbing the top gently. You stiffened lightly at the gesture, his fingers brushing over the horns. They were smooth with faint ring-like indentations, almost an ivory-creamy color. Truly a fascinating feeling.
"There you guys are! You've been gone for so long that we were starting to get worried." Marcille. You batted his hand off of your head quickly, turned around with a tautly-pulled grin towards the elven girl.
"Must've lost track of time finding what Senshi wanted, sorry about the wait. You guys must be starving by now." The two of you started to chat walking back to the temporary camp, Laios watching and following from behind. You pulled out the oxalis in your bag to show her, a proud expression beaming off your face as you brought up his face when he first tried it. His stomach twisted, his hand resting on the top of his armor-covered abdomen.
There were very few monsters he found cute, most being out-of-this-world frightening to gaze upon, but you truly were one of the cuter ones around. He felt hungry again as your hips swayed from side to side, tail flicking around. He brushed the fingers that he touched your horns with against his lips, reminiscing on the texture. How sensitive were they? You did go rigid when he brushed against them, but it could be just from the shock.
Saliva was building up in his mouth again, and he could only harshly swallow back the feeling.
Deplorable he was with this appetite, the desire to consume you piece by piece. Would you accept that as one of your final fates? Rather than being killed and left behind with little to no chance of being revived, he'd pick up every raw part of you and eat it, savoring each bite in respect for what you've sacrificed to help him find his sister. Laios would try to bring the inedible bits of you with him — bones, teeth, horns, nails, hooves, hair — for the rest of this dungeon's journey and back into his world. Your wish would be granted, despite not being able to fully witness it yourself; you might even thank him for that bit of kindness too.
This thing the two of you had was special, unbeknownst to the others. A friendship that couldn't be understood by the other members of the party, but was completely comprehensible to only you and him. Symbiotic, just almost mutualistic. A love of one's flesh in exchange for the love of another's world.
Love.
Though Laios has expressed his heavy interest and passion in monsters, he never had said he loved them. Most were mindlessly dangerous, no matter how small or large they were, acting on base instinct. Yet, you were different. In fact, he could say that you were the opposite of him. Instead of being grouped together with your fellow monster-kind, you were more interested in being around outsiders. Different sides of the same golden coin.
A realization hit him, his eyes widening. The strange feelings in his body, the perverse, obsessive fantasies he's been having about you... It could only mean that he—
"Jeez Laios, you've been spacing out all day. Are you okay?"
He snapped out of it, staring at the concerned looks of both you and Marcille. Laios only smiled, his golden eyes focused completely on your form. Both your ear and tail tip was twitching, flicking in the air as if a fly was nearby.
"I'm just hungry, that's all."

White dungeon meshi fans sound like this to me:
It's extremely fascinating and frightening to me how hateful some of you people are towards shuro, a man who is clearly depicted as japanese, (a man who could look like me or literally any member of my family in real life) for being a normal, complex, and flawed human being.
Why do you single him out for getting frustrated with and mad at laios when chilchuck and marcille do the same literally all the time? What's the difference between them and shuro?
Why do you feel the unnecessary need to protect these white women from a japanese man?
Do you expect that this japanese man is inherently going to have some kind of ugly negative quality that has not been once hinted at canonically? Do you know what that's called? Because i do and it's fucking racism.
You people get scared the moment a character that is a person of color isnt a quiet little model minority or a sweet mammy archetype. You grasp at your pearls the moment they are revealed to have complex personalities and histories; when they feel negative, big emotions that are literally part of the human experience. Or god forbid, when they show romantic interest in a pure, helpless, little white woman.
And when a person of color stops behaving good and docile the way you want, when they decide that theyre not going to put up with a situation that makes them uncomfortable or miserable or RIGHTEOUSLY FURIOUS, they become the bad guy. As seen countless times in the medias demonizing depiction of the Black Lives Matter protests and even of black people who get punished for just living their lives. It happens so often i shouldnt have to reiterate it to you but it somehow keeps flying over your head.
And when that dirty, conniving, perverted, slant eyed, buck toothed, stumpy little japanese man understandably snaps at the white person you guys are projecting onto and all you see is this:
So dont be surprised when i say that id rather kill myself than entrust the safety of my oldest aunts and uncles or my youngest cousins with any of you who act like this. Im terrified of what could have happened if people like you worked at the facility that my great grandmother lived out her final years in. Would you have seen her as a wild animal that needed to be subdued too when she had one of her many dementia-induced violent episode?
I will not apologize for saying that i find it deeply disconcerting to see so many of you happily posting hateful vitriol or even about committing acts of violence against a man that looks like me, solely because he was experiencing his humanity
#like especially after all the shit east asians but especially chinese people had to put up with after covid started#anyway listen to poc voices to stop being so fucking annoying#GO AHEAD LOOK AT MY YELLOW JAP FACE AND GIVE YOUR MADE UP JUSTIFICATIONS ILL EAT YOUR FUCKING EYEBALLS#ALSO WHITE FARCILLE WARRIORS: HE IS NOT GETTING IN THE WAY OF YOUR YURI SHIP#YOU BITCHES SOUND LIKE 2010s FUJOSHI HATING ON FEMALE CHARACTERS FOR GETTING IN THE WAY OF YOUR YAOI#BUT WITH MISOGYNY REPLACED WITH XENOPHOBIA AND RACISM#this is absolutely about how some of u fuckers treat kabru too btw#here i come bitches its the one thing that scares you more than a jap#ITS A JAP WHOS FUCKING MEAN#initially when i saw shuro i was like ooooh cutie! but then when i found out how tone deaf and racist some of you people are???#he immediately became my favorite character#like how asian diaspora kids at school form friend groups even when we dont share an ethnic identity#bc we understand each others experience better than any white friend we make will#shuro dungeon meshi#laios touden#falin touden#toshiro nakamoto#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon

genital headcannons for :
Falin
Laios
Chilchuck
Toshiro
Namari
Venery
Thistle
Falin definitely has a penis, I think hers is probably the biggest out of Laios' party? Namari definitely packs, I would let her peg me for hours omg..... she could ruin me. Ermmm.. Chilchuck probably has a big cock for a halfling, he's fucking TALL !!!! bro has to be packing something. Also shaved or not shaved... Namari body hair everywhere OMG I need her to shove my face into her bush I need to smell her. Sorry I'm being a little too straight (? I am a man but this feels gay idk) ... anyway chil, Namari, and Falin are unshaved, full bush down there. I feel like Toshiro at his best keeps everything trimmed !! but when he can't even shave his face when he's at his lowest... bro wouldn't have the energy to take care of it. Hmm and then Laios could be either way..?? We know he shaves his face and keeps his hair short bc he doesn't wanna look like his dad, but would he even think of shaving his pubes????? Idk. Wait is this a weird thing to think about? Oh wait do elves grow body hair??? I feel like thistle would have some body hair if it's possible, I feel like they can't... unless my DND 5e knowledge is getting mixed with uhmmm. What is it called... DUNGEON MESHI I think I'm starting to dissociate I'm going to stop typing lmfao
FALIN - GIRLCOCK. Whether you are a trans!Falin fan or what, in my eyes after the red dragon thing. She gets girl cock. I can see this as either like, a penis or like T-dick. Whatever you decide. But whatever it is her situation is definitely unique. Also she got a bush frfr
Laios - COCK. (I am also a trans!Laios fan so like. He can have anything in his pants it don’t matter imma eat it but usually when I write him it’s cock). His dick is as painfully average as he is. Not crazy length wise but he got some girth to it. I’m thinking like. 5 inches frfr. Maybe 6 but that’s generous imo. No manscaping just vibes he’s full bush down there. And body hair on his chest/legs/arms and around his groin
Chilchuck - OKAY. His dick is probably like more similar to an average tallman penis. Which is remarkable considering he’s like half their size. I’m gonna give him four inches and he’s breaking other halflings in half with it but with other races. He’s learned how to use it. Chilchuck is a real one. Light on body hair, but would keep it tidy when he’s not in the dungeon (I think he likes to manscape and like. Appreciate himself in the mirror lol)
Toshiro - He is ALL length and so embarrassed about it. (Def afraid he’s gonna hurt you.) He could learn to love it with a supportive partner though. I think for a while he’s rocking bush because like, yknow. That stuff isn’t really talked about…but he figured it out for himself that when he takes his time and shaves and stuff after a anything or whatever he’ll do some trimming down there because he likes the neatness. I like to think he grows body hair but it’s not super dark for some reason (besides on his face people get jealous at the beard he can grow)
Namari - SHE IS JUST LIKE ME I GET HER VIBE SO WHAT IM SAYING HERE IS CANON: SHE HAS CRAZY PUSS BUT IS ALWAYS ROCKING THE STRAP. Namari doesn’t let anyone fuck her hole unless they’re in a committed relationship (she does not play about that either if you insert anything in her sex is over). Insane with the strap too. She’s someone I can genuinely see breaking the bed with her strokes. Also she’s got body hair for days. Like other Dwarf women she can grow a beard too but she usually shaves. (Namari with stubble…I’m bout to go feral.)
Venery - Started off with a human vagina. Now it’s some weird mix between that + hyena + dragon cock. I think he’s canonically intersex due to the ancient magic. But he’s happy about it. Also UHHHHHH…..HE LAYS EGGS. JS.
Thistle - Okay Thistle is so trans to me I think he gives himself top surgery when he’s getting older with ancient magic. He leaves the downstairs area alone because he’s fine with just presenting masc that’s good enough for him. Very low body hair he just sits in the middle of gender ambiguous for REAL.

Delicious in Dungeon scenario with an Eri Reader. She wants adventure and the adventurers are panicking because a child is in the dungeon!
-You weren’t completely sure where you were, it was a little cold, but nothing you couldn’t handle, but it was rather dark as you slowly stood, looking around.
-This wasn’t anything like the place you had been, with Overhaul, this was some place new, the walls and everything around you being made of stone.
-You were in a hallway, and after a brief debate, you picked one direction and started walking, hoping to find someone who might be able to help you and tell you where you were.
-You passed by some suits of armor, and your eyes turned into sparkles, seeing that you were in a castle! Or at least you thought you were, that’s what you saw in your picture books, stone buildings, and suits of armor.
-You wandered around for a while, seeing some glowing mushrooms in various areas, which made you curious on how they were glowing as you continued to explore.
-As you continued, you came across strange creatures, ones that didn’t pay you any mind, as you weren’t a threat and since you were small, you weren’t worth eating, but you didn’t know that. All you could see was creatures you’ve seen in fairy tales and picture books, and you were loving it! It was like you were on an adventure!
-You paused as you came to a large staircase, one that was spiraling both up and down, leaving you to your next decision, on which way to go.
-Believing you were in a castle, you decided to go down, as that would lead you to the entrance, or so you thought as you held onto the railing and slowly walked down, not wanting to fall.
-When you came to a big landing, that led out into various hallways, you decided to explore!
-You came across a round shield that had a lion head on the front of it, it was a little heavy, but you were able to put your arms through it, like a backpack, and you couldn’t help but beam, not really realizing the situation you found yourself in, you were just having fun!
-It was about two hours later when you were starting to get hungry as you held your stomach, wondering where you could get some food before a delicious smell surrounded you.
-You followed your nose and wandered down the hall, seeing it was a little lighter, thanks to floating balls of light that were around.
-You were in awe, “It’s so pretty!”
-You missed the nearby voices, but they instantly went silent, hearing a child’s voice and quickly they rushed towards you, worried about a child being so far down.
-You heard a boot skid and you turned from where you were holding one of the balls of light, seeing a group of people there, a human, a dwarf, a boy who had big ears, and an elf lady.
-Your eyes went wide as you beamed, pointing at the human, “A knight in shining armor!” instantly he had you in his arms, holding you out at arm’s length, “What’s a child doing here?”
-They took you back to their camp and Senshi, the dwarf, made you a bowl of the food, it was stew of some sort and Chilchuck had you on his lap, as he was the only one who had experience with children, helping you blow on your food.
-Marcille was super nice to you, as she asked how you got down so far, which confused you and Laois told you that you were going underground, as the castle was buried, turning it into a dungeon.
-You told them how you woke up in a long and dark hallway, with nobody around and you just started walking. Senshi was impressed with your bravery while Chilchuck was grumbling, annoyed at others, who let you get into this situation.
-When Laois asked you about your family, you got really quiet, pulling your arms into your chest, looking scared but Chilchuck grabbed your arm, gently, as he had seen something, and saw the scars on your arms.
-Marcille quickly had you in her arms, panicking about healing you, while the men were all shouting that they were going to roll some heads for hurting a child like you.
-You calmed them, but also broke their hearts, “They don’t hurt, not anymore. My quirk made them better.”
-After learning that this world didn’t have quirks, after you explained what one was, or at least the little bit that you did know, Marcille was theorizing that you came from another world, as your world was far more advanced than this world, as they asked you questions, and you asked them questions.
-You ended up telling them about Overhaul, telling them what he had done to you, trying to exploit your quirk, appalling them as they couldn’t even begin to imagine treating a child the way you had been treated.
-Laios was curious, wanting to know if it was like magic, and asked you for your permission to show your quirk, which you had never had before and you agreed.
-Marcille and Chilchuck were quickly yelling at Laois while you were sobbing, after he sliced his hand open, you hadn’t been expecting him to hurt himself, while Senshi was trying to calm you down.
-You took Laios’ hand in your own and your horn suddenly grew as an aura surrounded it, and they all watched as you healed the wound.
-Marcille, who was well versed in magic, watched carefully and she spoke, “It’s not magic, and it’s not healing, it’s like Y/N is reversing time, reversing the damage that has been done.”
-They all looked at you, knowing full well that there would be so many people that would exploit your abilities, since it wasn’t magic, but they weren’t going to let that happen. You’ve suffered enough, and now they were going to protect you.
-You threw your hands up and cheered loudly when Laios made the decision to keep you with their group, rather than taking you back upstairs and to a place you could get cared for, like an orphanage, as you didn’t want to leave your new friends.
-Marcille used a needle to alter one of her spare dresses so it could fit you and you twirled, “It’s so pretty, are you sure I can have this?” you were so stinking precious, you were such a selfless child, one they were now going to protect!
-As camp was packed up, Senshi helped you put your shield back on, stating that it was a good thing for you to be protected by it, while Chilchuck said you looked like a turtle, which just made you smile as you held onto Marcille’s hand as the group continued on.

Source: Delicious in Dungeon World Guide - The Adventurer's Bible
by Ryōko Kui
Link to the full Artbook
A young (middle-aged?) half-foot with very sharp senses. He can tell a structure's layout and its trap locations from the way sound echoes, and he serves as the lifeline during dungeon expeditions. He's neurotic and a consummate professional, and he doesn't like people horning in on his work. Since he knows several languages, he can interpret as well. He runs a half-foot guild and uses his influence to connect people with work, but apparently some half-foots don't like him much. He's sarcastic, sharp-tongued, and never loses a verbal fight, but he's also mature enough to apologize properly when he's erred. Who'd expect less from Mr. Chilchuck, age twenty-nine? As an aside he prefers beautiful blondes.
Laios and Chilchuck were introduced through Dandan, a half-foot who belonged to the guild. In terms of age, it happened just as he was starting to think about retiring from dungeon expeditions. However, Laios's group was bound for the dungeon's depths, and there were no other half-foots who seemed capable of getting there, so he decided to go with them. As an aside, the average half-foot lives to be fifty years old. In terms of modern-day humans, Chilchuck's about fifty, so it would have been a rather early retirement. After he stopped adventuring, he was planning to set up shop as a locksmith.
For a half-foot, Chilchuck is on the tall side. That means he's also a bit heavier, and that makes it easier for him to set off traps, so he's very careful to keep his weight under control. However, he's been eating well ever since Senshi took charge of the cooking, and he's currently beating his all-time high.
Chilchuck is a pretty heavy drinker. His father apparently died from drinking too much, but he thinks enjoying the things you like isn't a bad way to go. That being the case, he doesn't plan to cut back on his liquor intake, and he enjoyed the Golden Castle's local beer to his heart's content.
Chilchuck has a wife and three daughters, and all three are grown and out on their own. His wife is a childhood friend his own age; she's currently living with their second daughter. The scene at right is from Marcille's imagination; only Chilchuck knows what actually happened. That said, he's no longer suspected of cheating, and the women's (particularly Marcille's) opinion of him has improved, which is all for the better.
Half-foots have childlike features and are short, so most have a certain charm. Some use their looks as a weapon to curry favor with other races or commit crimes. Acting that way can bring short-term benefits but makes other half-foots look bad in the long run, so Chilchuck hates it.

Idea I had for a Dungeon Meshi swap AU
(Farcille and Chilaios fans why are we yet to make a swap AU where Laios x Chilchuck and Falin x Marcille swap.)
(P.S I only recently got into dungeon meshi like a month ago + I’m going off the anime and a bit of character facts from the manga so beware I might get some stuff wrong 💔)
Recently I’ve been cooking up (pun intended) this idea for a swap AU, ofc I love when ppl swap Falin and laios’s places but I wish they’d swap more characters and their stories, so it got me thinking about different possibilities.
what if Chilchuck and Laios were the ones that met in Magic school and become good friends? (for the sake of the AU let’s just say half foots live a bit longer so they age more similarly to humans). Chilchuck learned magic cause he didn’t want to be seen as weak or greedy for his race, which led him to getting miraculously accepted into a prestigious College for magic (which leads him to later learn Dark magic). It’s not his fault he befriended the “weirdo” human boy from said school and now has to save him (he’s worried sick he’s just emotionally constipated as hell).
Along with all this, after being saved from that spirit as a child, Laios realizes he has a love for monsters and what not; which later leads to his love for magic. When hes able to work with his little sister in their group as a Cleric, he was super excited to travel with friends and see all the monsters they come across, it’s too bad he ends up getting munched on by the red dragon.
Meanwhile Marcille is a half Elf for hire who was never able to master magic; And since elf’s aren’t known for their physical strength, she learned to disarm and detect traps. Ofc she probably had trouble with business because of this, but Falin and Laios found her situation super intriguing and hired her almost instantly.
Finally theres Falin, maybe after saving laios from that spirit as a child she realized she enjoyed combat and instead of going on to do magic she instead took a similar path as Canon laios and left home around 12 and later became the leader of their group. Of course while shes much more “mature” than Laios and is better at picking up social cues, she still has that weird fascination with eating monsters; she’s just way less extreme about it (guess it runs in the family).
Senshi could probably stay the same, but I could see him and namari swapping places (still deciding)
Some other roles that would be swapped (there’s more but I’m too lazy to list all of them):
Shuro <—> Maizuru
Kabru <—> Rin
Izutsumi <—> Kuro
dandan <—> Mickbell
(Note I’ll most likely make Farcille and Chilaios canon in this AU)
In this AU Marcille and Falin would actually get to develop their relationship some more and I think it’d be rlly fun for them to have this kinda awkward little Romance, like “hey ik your brother (and our friend) is getting digested rn but you’re rlly cute…”
Meanwhile Chilchuck is annoyed cause his best friend could possibly not be saved and die if they don’t hurry up and stop worrying about eating monsters and forming relationships (as he totally pushes down his feelings for Laios).
I really need to draw something for this AU, I think it’d be rlly fun.
Anyways hope y’all enjoyed my stupid little idea ramble.

I've been seeing a weirdly high level of Dungeon Meshi discourse that just. Completely misses the point lately and I'm honestly kinda frustrated about it. So.
First point of address. Laios isn't canonically autistic. He is written in a way that lends itself to the reading of him being neuro divergent, and I think if he was a real person he would be on the spectrum, but the world of Dunmeshi itself does not have the concept of autism (yet). If it did you can bet the human enthusiast Kabru would have immediately pegged Laios as such. As for Falin, she'd also likely be ND but closer to ADHD judging by the relatively small amount we get to actually see her existing as a character.
NOW THAT THAT'S OUT OF THE WAY. Toshiro isn't being ableist with his expectations of Laios picking up on social queues and being angry that he doesn't get it! Laios is legitimately rude to him! In terms of micro-aggressions, he does it constantly and unintentionally. He straight up calls Toshiro strange looking and fucks up his name! But the thing is, Toshiro's biggest flaw is that he applies his cultural norms to his interactions with everyone, regardless of culture. Chilchuck and Mick have a small talk about how Toshiro, with zero indication of feelings beforehand or any romantic involvement, just asks Falin to marry him and expects it to go well, all because she looked at a bug and he thought she was the most unique and different woman he had ever met (small aside, almost all the women he had met at this point are either family, his dad's mistress that is more of a mom to him than his own mom, his retainers, and his uhhh indentured servants/Literal Slaves)(Itsuzumi is a whole ass other conversation that I'm not even remotely qualified to talk about). He's a man of high social status that's never had to think about that fact before, never had to examine the power and privilege he has at his disposal. As a result, his expectations of people to learn his cultural norms, something he's been used to in his homeland, go unmet and are a source of friction.
Here's a real life example. In the US Midwest, if a person slaps their knees and/or stands up, sometimes saying some combination of "Welp/it's getting late..." They're politely telling their guests "get the fuck out of my house." It's impolite to ask people to leave, even politely. This is absolutely arcane and insane, why would anyone do this? Society!
Toshiro has grown up in a place where he's had to be hyper-aware of these things, where he can't verbally state what he literally wants or means. And he's conformed! He's decided to do what's expected of him. Laios, on the other hand, instead chafed against the expectations put on him as the child of the village elder and against the way people treated Falin for being different. He gave up his privilege (assured house, home, fiancee, position and responsibility within their town) in order to pursue a freedom beyond the society he saw as wrong. Laios is fundamentally uninterested in people (as opposed to monsters and demi-humans which is why he's uniquely suited to dealing with the multicultural aftermath of The Whole Thing), but he values his loved ones and personal code of honor enough to do what he needs to protect those things, even if it means going against society.
Anyways this is a long winded way of saying Toshiro and Laios are complex characters and narrative foils of each other in the early narrative and shouldn't be turned into one dimensional parodies of themselves for the purpose of Hot Takes. Thanks.
#i saw so many people calling Toshiro ableist and still calling him Shuro Despite Everything#and other people saying Laios is a terrible near irredeemable person due to micro-aggressions#that i got fed up and word vomited#discourse is stupid!!! there are discussions to be had and points to be made but these are Fictional Characters#written by a Japanese woman with an extremely nuanced view of the world#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon

Dungeon Meshi Liveblog 24
Suicidal urges be damned, it's time for Season 1 Finale! (Hooray for Season 2 announcement~!)
FALIN! SIGHTINGGG!!! WITH HER VOICEEEEEEE!!!
Laios' idea to change Falin's lower half isn't too terrible of an idea, but it certainty wouldn't work in the long run.. She wouldn't be able to bathe for starters and I doubt people on the surface would welcome her, small sized dragon with her humanity restored or not. There has to be a way to restore her original body, right?
WUH OH! GARGOYLES!
LSDfjlkfj poor Marcille.. She just keeps getting knocked around like a ping pong ball LMAO
ELF SENSHI IS STILL SO CURSED WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE THAT EVEN WHEN HE'S GETTING INJURED LJKFLKF
Yes!! Way to go, Chilchuck and Marcille!!
TAKE TO THE SKY, MARCILLE!!!
gOD, I CAN'T WAIT TILL SENSHI IS BACK TO NORMAL... BRING US BACK OUR HOT ASS DWARF!!!
Yay!! They're back to normal!! :D
LAIOS AND FALIN BACKSTORYYYY!!
Aww.. Laios really just showed up out of the blue after who knows how long and Falin just...decided to go along with him, right then and there. There wasn't even any hesitation. She must have missed him so, so much. ...And she must have been very, very lonely, too.
BABY FALIN.... HER CHEEKS ARE SO CHUBBY... TTATT
Marcille... (IT'S TIME TO FUCKING C RY.....)
AGGHHH SO MUCH FALIN THIS EP I AM EATING WELL
They... They gotta eat Falin in order to save her. Why am I surprised??
....Wait. Another mid size group?? THE CANARIES......
!! FALIN IN REAL TIME!! Whoa, wait.. Is Thistle not letting her eat any of the monsters?? What is he feeding her, then?? Is he feeding her anything at all?? This is so FUCKED! LET HER GO, YOU BASTARD!!!
And just like that, Season 1 has come to a close... I really hope we don't have to wait too long for Season 2. I want to see Laios and the others rescue Falin so that they can all eat a nice, warm meal together again. And again, and again, and again...

Dungeon Meshi Chapter 15
Hey it's those guys!
So the party was actually paralyzed rather than killed by the Treasure Insects. I guess that makes a bit more sense. Still, if part of the treasure insect life cycle is to be carried to new places by people, why would they attack the party?
A whole 2.78% discount!?! How generous.
So magic can leave lingering effects on hair and that can be used to make charms against ghosts. Okay.
Yep. "In a gold rush, sell shovels." The corpse runners may be providing an essential service to adventurers, but they and probably everyone working the adventurers guild are ultimately taking advantage of people trying to seek fame and fortune.
I bet if a party refuses to pay for revival, the get blacklisted by the guild and are left to rot the next time they die.
From this angle, it appears the tower interior stopped right where the water is, which necessitated making the hole in the wall.
Back when 4F was first explored, the makeshift docks may have been placed from that lower opening. Then maybe someone had the bright idea to make the hole a level above so that it would be easier to scope out the area since there's a walkway that goes all around the tower there. It may also have been easier to lower the dock sections into place rather than try carrying them across the already laid docks and set them around corners.
What are tentacles? They were labeled separately from krakens so it's not that.
We got some names. The human mage is Rin and the kobold is Kuro.
Kuro got impaled through his armor when the mermaids got him.
That was a real lose-lose scenario there. Because those mermaids were singing their siren songs, the party had to wear earplugs to keep themselves safe. But then that left them vulnerable to an ambush by the other mermaids lying in wait.
Where is Laios's party right now? Are they still at the center part of 4F but on the upper level?
Of course Laios doesn't recognize the human adventurers but he does recognize the kobold.
At first, I thought Chilchuck was dragging Rin by her hair, but then I noticed that he's actually pulling her by the arm.
The fact that Laios knows the mermaid song implies a few things. Someone or a group of people decided to listen to and record the mermaid song so others can hear it. I assume there's no magic that can record sound, which means that whoever recorded the song willingly listened and kept enough of their wit to be able to remember and write the notes of the music.
I don't think the mammalian and piscine mermaids were working together. The mammalian ones seemed to just be singing for the sake of it and weren't paying Laios and Chilchuck any mind until Laios started singing as well.
I'm curious if they use echolocation under the water. Maybe they can also stun fish when they sing under water but on land it only has the charm effect.
And since they're explicitly stated to be mammalian, then they likely had an evolutionary history similar to whales, seals, and manatees where they were land creatures that evolved to live in water. If any other humanoid creatures with sound-based offense appear, maybe they will have a common ancestry to the mammalian mermaids.
I kind of understand Chilchuck's discomfort. The piscine mermaids likely have a humanoid shape through co-evolution and all the similar traits are coincidental.
Trying to argue why it would be okay to eat the mermaids to someone opposed to it is going to devolve into justifying cannibalism at some point because the only real reason to oppose it is because of their humanoid traits.
This is also ignoring how the mermaids attacked the other party first and probably is okay with eating humans, so this is just a moral high ground being applied to a survival situation.
Laios's mask of sanity fell off for a moment. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.
At first, I thought the piscine and mammalian mermaids might just be opposite sexes to one another and the mammalians lured in prey while piscines ambushed anyone lured by their songs. And I even considered there could be a potential clownfish scenario where they can morph into one another depending on sex ratios in their groups. What convinced me otherwise was that mammalian mermaids have actual hair while piscines do not. If they could morph into each other, then they should both have natural hair.
Chilchuck's really bummed that Marcille isn't really bothered by what should be a morally dubious meal. It's grain porridge pilfered from dead adventurer supplies and mixed with the "hair" of a human-looking creature with the presumed intelligence to forge weapons.
Chilchuck used Marcille's staff while yelling at Laios.
The only reason Chilchuck is willing to drop the whole conversation is because the porridge cheered Marcille up and she would definitely have stressed out if she learned those were piscine mermaid eggs.
Chilchuck seems to be trying to sort through his feelings on the whole matter that happened this chapter. I should remind you that last chapter, the party ended up killing a kelpie that Senshi loved and he chose to butcher it after. And Marcille initially argued against butchering it. But Senshi chose to do that despite his feelings for Anne.
The whole matter of what is and isn't okay to eat is always a slippery slope. It is based on arbitrary norms set down by different cultures and a person's own feelings on the matter. From a pure reasoning perspective, anything that isn't toxic to you should be okay to eat. The piscine and even the mammalian mermaids should be okay to eat. The only reason Chilchuck isn't comfortable with that is because it hits too close to a personal taboo against cannibalism.
Granted, I think Laios was in the wrong here ultimately. I personally don't think there would have been anything wrong with eating the piscine mermaids. It's not like Laios is actually hunting an intelligent creature just to eat it. However, he wasn't willing to respect the party's boundaries here. They made it clear that demi-humans are off the table when it comes to eating, and instead of respecting that, Laios tried to argue that piscines don't count.
This is probably a matter that will never get a consensual resolution. I think food preferences are one of the most common cause of strife between people in their normal lives. Eating is necessary to live and eating together is a powerful bonding activity and if a group can't agree on what to eat because of personal preferences, religious beliefs, or allergies then engaging with a necessary action to live becomes a very stressful activity.
After saying this, my heart goes out to people with gluten allergies. many food items are a complete non-option for them so it must be difficult to actually engage in social eating.

Mundane AU!Laios thoughts
Note:
Probably contains spoilers
Mundane au= no magic and no fantasy 'races' (like... little people are a thing, they exist in reality, some people just have dwarfism. The elves are just skinny racist and xenophobic Europeans like? And there's already parralells made with the demi humans so if I do anything the orcs are Afro Native and Kobolds are somewhere African or Arab. And for the ogres... gigantism is a thing that exists in real like and totally a teen girl would just wear some horns.)
Thoughts:
The Toudens are European-born. From somewhere cold as hell, really isolated and conservative, that's close to some mountains, that's racist towards the local indigenous people.
(The sibs, but especially Laios got chewed out about some shit and has been trying to be better, slips up every now and then but takes criticism well so long as folks tell him what he did/said wrong).
Local weird kids put off vibes that the rest of the village didn't like, Laios and Falin grew up bullied and ostracized. Falin got sent off to schooling in the big city and later to a university in Italy where she met Marcille.
Laios dropped out of high school and joined the military as soon as he was able to b/c he wanted to get the hell out of dodge. Served for a few shitty years b4 just... deserting and backpacking across Europe just straight up homeless and working whatever odd jobs he could find. Man was going through it. Wound up in the same city where Falin was studying at a university in and decided to visit her. She took one look at him and refused to let him just go back to what he was doing, so Laios started couch surfing with her (very much against dorm rules but he looked terrible and Falin wasn't about to let anyone stop her from making sure her brother has a roof over his head and food).
Eventually, she takes him with her when she does a work-study in the USA for her ecology degree and they ended up staying/Falin kinda maybe sorta dropped out and got a job with a vet near where she was doing her work-study.
Laios and Falin are technically illegal immigrants but they're white so no one really questions their citizenship (their working on getting citizenship/papers)
Laios gets a GED. Does some self-study from Falin's textbooks and online stuff but that's about it for his schooling.
Laios definitely, like, lives in Falin's basement. Falin is the primary breadwinner in this household, Laios is aware of this and has learned to accept it even tho he would like to take care of his baby sister and sometimes feels bad about not being able to. They used to share a room in a cheap apartment but after building up enough savings they managed to buy a suspiciously cheap house in a rural town bordering a reservation and not far from a national park.
Laios still works odd jobs, mostly physical labor and stuff where they won't ask for a degree. Has worked retail, where his customer service was trash but he's darn good at just stocking and shelving shit.
Met Chilchuck while working retail, Chilchuck introduced him to the concept of a union which Laios thinks is really neat.
The town where the Touden's moved has a sizable population of people with dwarfism, Chilchuck is a notable member of the little person community in the area. The Touden's go to Chilchuck for help with paperwork (they pay him a small fee) and he doesn't ask too many questions about why they don't have this or that piece of documentation.
Laios enjoys doing citizen science and bird watching. During the tourist season, he runs a small wilderness guide giving campers and hikers tours in the local national park.
There's a hermit that lives in the national park illegally (Senshi) that Laios and Falin made friends with. They love his cooking.
Laios is active in the online furry community. He does commissions, mostly of digital and physical art or people's fursonas and vore stuff. He does great ferals, and decent anthros, but his human art is not good (he's working on it).
Laios is decidedly chubby in this, his weight goes up and down depending on the season and how much physical activity he's doing. But ever since he reunited with Falin, she's been making sure he doesn't skip meals if they can afford to eat. And ever since he met Senshi he's gotten heftier since he loves that man's cooking.
