when people act like colin would just accept someone he's dating being mean to penelope it's just like. that's not true. he decided to eternally have beef with cressida bc she was mean to penelope one time in his presence. he hears portia being mean to penelope and immediately tells her off so thoroughly it changes the course of the entire featherington family. and u want me to believe he would be chill with someone he's dating being mean to her? be so serious.
#speaking#bridgerton#yes this is a continuation of my stop mischaracterizing marina posting.#but this is also abt ppl mischaracterizing colin like i kind of understand where the 'colin takes penelope for granted' take came from but#i also don't really think that's true. it's true in the book where he literally says he takes it for granted that she'll be there but#even then it's like. she's just a part of his life bc she's so close to the bridgerton family and eloise in particular. like he takes#her for granted in the same way he takes his family for granted in that he never doubts they'll be there bc they're them. she's penelope.#but back to my point! in s1 he's the one who initiates all of their interactions aside from when she tries to tell him marina is in love#with someone else and even in that conversation where he's kinda patronizing he still recognizes she's trying to be a good friend#and at the basset ball he apologizes for not listening to her and tells her she inspired him to travel#and in s2 he confides in her multiple times and talks abt appreciating her and her friendship. it's the entire reason#for his involvement with jack's mines (and there's some deleted scene scripts from s2 that show he knew smth was up from the beginning so#if we take those as canon he knowingly got himself involved in a scam in order to protect her/her family)#and i do think the 'i would never court' comment skewed ppl's perception especially bc they never gave the context or a reason#for that comment so it just gets left as him blowing her off (after spending most of the season leaning hard into the unrequited angle)#but it just feels revisionist like. yeah she has the right to be angry/hurt abt that comment but to discount their entire relationship#and the multiple times colin has shown how much he values her bc this one comment must be the end all be all of his feelings is just.#incredibly unfair to him. especially considering the comments penelope makes abt people as lw like we're supposed to understand that's#not all she is but apparently that is all colin is. okay. sure. she's literally important to him and he highly values her#friendship but sure. whatever.

I'm gonna be so serious, y'all are remembering POWDER and Ekko and not JINX and Ekko when screaming about how much you "wanted Timebomb endgame over Caitvi"
shoving JINX in a relationship with her current mental state is not a good writing choice whatsoever, because Ekko literally had to keep rewinding time because she kept trying to kill herself. If Anything, That relationship would be rushed and fanservice because they would have jumped the gun in 2 episodes vs the 2 seasons it took for Caitvi and showing their ups and downs throughout their whole relationship.
The alternate universe works because Powder doesn't become Jinx and the two don't separate, unlike this universe where the two have been at odds for 7 years and almost kill each other back in Ep 7 of S1.
"But Cait never said sorry!" she didn't really have to, because Vi never stopped being in love with the girl that she Knows Cait is at heart, the Cocktail Molotov scene in Act 2 makes that VERY apparent. Cait saying that she was waiting for Vi to recover to address Jinx is the start of it because Act 1 Cait wouldn't have even Considered doing that, because she was so gung-ho about putting a bullet into Jinx that she Demanded Vi move out of the way for her to do so. She holds herself accountable with the mistakes she's made ("We can't erase our mistakes. None of us." that wasn't just a line targeted at Jinx to prove a point, there's deeper meaning behind it), and moving the guards out of the cell proving that she trusts Vi and her judgment on Jinx is that apology, Caitlyn has always been an "acts of service" kinda person over being a "verbal" kinda person; it's all over the place in S1 but Especially here in S2. But even after she takes Vi's shirt off, you could tell by her eyes and body language that she was most likely going to stop herself again to apologize for hitting her because the wound was in the same spot she initially hit, which was part of the lead up for This wound to even happen, but Vi's the one that just pulls her back in instead.
I'm also gonna add on that Vi thinks she made the wrong choice in trusting Jinx and thinking Jinx's changed because Jinx locked her in the cell and ran away again. So why in the Hell would Vi go chasing after her Again to be met with the same result time and time again? Vi isn't responsible for Jinx's mental health and y'all saying that are just weird. And I think it's apparent that Stillwater probably wasn't even in the top 10 things in her head being with Caitlyn, she was just running wild on emotions that she hasn't allowed herself to feel like-- Ever. And even if it Was Vi probably would have said she wasn't comfortable being in a jail cell of all places.
What was I talking about? Oh right, Timebomb.
Like Yes, it's shitty that Ekko doesn't get a happy ending considering he's the most unproblematic in the entire show. But people tend to forget that at the end of the day, Arcane is a TRADGEDY. It's not She-ra, it's not The Owl House, it wasn't going to be wrapped up in a neat little bow where everyone gets to smile and walk into the sunset with their loved ones, especially considering the fact that this season's being used as build ups to other stories, it's relatively clear that this isn't the last we're going to see of a lot of these characters. When they come back into play? well... who's to say?
But also, let's address that a lot of the Caitvi hate is just straight up homophobia at this point because a lot of people can understand Mel's admission to manipulating Jayce as an apology but Cait's actions we're suddenly braindead and need shit completely spelled out. like good lord I'm so tired of this. Y'all would NEVER have survived Catradora let me tell ya...
(My next post is gonna be a long winded rant about Maddie so stay tuned for that...)
#arcane#arcane season 2#caitlyn kiramman#vi arcane#ekko arcane#jink arcane#caitvi#timebomb#league of legends#yall are weird#and hypocritical#to say the least#arcane discussion#im rambling again#but i have a point#making timebomb canon would be fanservice not caitvi#im just saying

any plans for another wincest fic since say something is ending soon (maybe?) love love your sam + dean and ur poly dynamics are a god send i love luis jess sam and all his uni friends so much i love love love his powers <333 ur fic is like a self indulgent fic written just for me thank you <3333
thank you!!
mmmm the thing is in spite of obviously liking wincest i did mostly get into it just because the fic is that damn good, it was very much build it and they will come. my first inclination tends to be platonic brothers who are freaks about each other. see something say something was initially not wincest but once their freak dynamic was happening right alongside jess i was like. it's actually so much weirder and uncomfortable if they don't want to fuck actually. so why not, fine, let's see where this goes
(i actually think dean would have come off as way more of a threat to their relationship if he wasn't in love with sam because then he'd never have a reason to try and curb his jealousy and possessiveness, just like in canon. ironically it actually gives him some practice at self control and not feeling entitled to every piece of sam, something that he otherwise has no reason to put the breaks on)
the problem with platonic sam and dean is that fic writers tend to just make them really close brothers and i'm like no, you don't understand. the freakness is inherit. sex if anything makes them more normal. (as goshen said in one of my favorite fics of theirs [Acid] Sam said, "You know I wish you just wanted to fuck me? That would be easy, they've got words for that kind of messed up.")
like when i wrote dumb luck or good ghost it was so important that they were not even a little bit normal even though it's completely platonic. and it's set before john's death, when they're arguably the most normal and healthy about each other in the whole canon.
what was so fun about writing that fic for me was that it's from dean's pov and we get to see him trying to deal with sam's death and falling the fuck apart, even with his dad still alive, in ways that are just unhinged. and we get these pinprick moments of awareness from dean that what he's doing and feeling is insane (asking john for a picture, wanting to lie on top of sam's grave, digging him up) but most of the time he's moving like he's being normal about this but we, the audience, read between the lines and go jesus christ you're holding on by a thread. by contrast it makes the moments when he actually thinks he's going insane (seeing sam) seem almost grounded in comparison.
and sam's gone and it's all dean pov so we the audience go okay deans' a freak about sam, that doesn't mean sam is a freak back. sure, signs point to him giving up his life for his brother, but some brothers would do that, it's not that crazy. and then you find out mr. i just want to be normal and safe actually agreed to go off to hell and be trained with the demon that killed their mother and gave up his humanity for literally eternity! all to make sure his brother didn't die
and you're like oooooohhh. yeah no they're both fucked
that's the part i love. and it works for me whether there's wincest or not, it's just that wincest writers tend to land there as a matter of course
that said i still have the s1 sam getting sent to the endverse fic outlined and again that was initially conceived as platonic but also the dynamic of oblivious s1 sam and tortured in love broken endverse dean?? delicious. so who knows

When you bring up the lack of attraction that Mike demonstrates towards women, the Milkvans of reddit will say shit like, "Mike is Elsexual," "Mike chose El from the very beginning," "Mike loved El from the moment he saw her" etc. etc. and I just have to laugh bc even Mike himself says that this isn't true lmfao. "It wasn't fate. It wasn't destiny. It was simple dumb luck."
The difference between Mike's relationship with El and his relationship with Will is CHOICE. Mike chose alright, and he chose WILL and continues to choose Will again and again. What makes Mike and El's relationship special is that Mike didn't choose El. El showed up at his doorstep at a time when she was vulnerable and endangered, and Mike took her in and loved and accepted her unconditionally. Will, on the other hand, didn't stumble into Mike's life. From the very beginning, he was hand-picked: "So I asked. I asked if you wanted to be my friend. And you said yes. You said yes. It was the best thing I've ever done."
There has yet to be a time in the series when Mike chooses El over Will for more than a temporary amount of time. In s1, Mike cares for El, but his priority is always finding Will, even to the point at which he is willing to defame El and decimate his relationship with her when he believes her to be responsible for bad things happening to Will. In s2, Mike is always at Will's side, even sleeping next to him and constantly wanting to protect Will from the harm others are trying to cause him. In s3, Max says that Mike will "come crawling back" to El after the fight, but Mike actually ends up ignoring his conflict with El so that he can go apologize to and mend his relationship with Will. Similar thing happens in s4. He seems to "choose" El initially in Lenora, but he spends the rest of the season rekindling and nurturing his relationship with Will. Will Will Will. It's always been Will for him and it will always be Will.
Milkvans really have an easier time believing that Mike is a heterosexual boy who magically, whimsically, mysteriously is only attracted to one girl he met when he was twelve years old than that he MIGHT be not be 100% straight. It's bizarre bc what they're proposing would be so much more unusual than Mike just being queer. Like, us Bylers, we believe that Mike is in love with Will, but we don't deny Mike his sexuality and pretend that he's only ever been allowed to feel attraction for Will lmao. Take one look at that boy in s4 and it's so easy to tell that he is a gay disaster who likes putting posters of muscly men on his walls and watching men get sweaty and wrestle each other. That little shit is GAYYYYY as hell, in love with Will or not. But you expect me to believe that Mike is a HETEROSEXUAL boy who does not experience any feelings or attraction to any girl besides El??? Now THAT would be infinitely more of a stretch and more unusual than Mike just being gay or bi. Allo cisheterosexual men aren't exactly known for displaying a lack of attraction or horniness towards women. Even if El WERE the only person Mike ever experiences attraction towards, it would be a stretch atp to call Mike allo and cishet. He'd be ace-spec or demisexual and probably still roped into the queer umbrella lmao. But that's a narrative that the Milkvans are equally uncomfortable with bc they'd rather leap over the moon to conjecture that Mike, against all odds, logic, evidence, and reasoning, is an allo cisheterosexual man than admit that he is queer. Make it make sense.
But by all means, if y'all redditors want to push the ace-spec Mike agenda, please do so, I will support it. But something tells me that's not quite the case and that you'd rather live in this fantasy world where your perfectly good, perfectly allo cishet, perfectly conforming version of Mike Wheeler is exclusively, only attracted to El Hopper. In reality, Mike doesn't choose El and never did. He chooses and is demonstrably attracted to Will throughout the entire show.

It's super interesting that despite both of them choosing not to chase after Brooklynn, Kenji and Sammy have slightly different reasons for that decision. And it speaks volumes about their personalities.
Kenji's reason is exhaustion that manifests through the lack of trust, meanwhile Sammy's reason is feeling betrayed. (explanation under the cut)
Yes, at first, Kenji felt betrayed (rightfully so), but in his experience, it was just yet another... fierce emotion that he felt towards Brooklynn. Kenji experienced Brooklynn through a string of passion and life-altering events – falling deeply in love, losing her emotionally, losing her physically, grieving over her, even learning that she was alive was brutal. Dare I say... he is tired of going through a windmill of emotions because of one person, and truth being told that it is valid. I don't think it's even fully internalized, but my boy is simply emotionally drained. No wonder that the sense of betrayal sizzled out quickly – he had invested too much already, he doesn't have the energy to fight and protect his heart yet another time.
At the same time, a massive part of Kenji's plotline in jwct (in jwcc too to some extent) is learning how and who to trust – it started with his father (jwcc), then it was Darius (jwct s1), at the end of jwct season 2 and at the beginning of season 3 – it was Ben. Kenji is quick to doubt people's intentions (makes sense considering his past) and he has to put a lot of physical and emotional effort into trusting someone again. Which is why him trusting Darius again is so beautiful, which is what makes his goodbye with Ben so heartwarming – despite all, Kenji crossed the bridge and chose to trust them again. But Brooklynn didn't give him a reason to try again. Instead, he feels tired of chasing a ghost – not in the physical sense, but in the emotional sense. He's just out of energy.
On the other hand, Sammy feels utterly betrayed by Brooklynn's behaviour, and that also makes sense for Sammy's past and personality. Sammy is much more than her love and kindness, but we need to admit that "family" – all types of families – is what she puts faith in. Again, it all started in jwcc – remember that she went to camp cretaceous behind her family's back, in a way she betrayed them for a better good. Yes, she found a new family there but that choice also bit her in the ass – ultimately, her initial actions didn't bring the results she was aiming for (even though in jwcc s5 at the end we learn that Sammy's family provides Mantah Corp Island with meat). Sammy was a family person even before that, but after her Nublar experience, dare I say, family became even more important for her. She realized that staying with people you love is what makes you stronger.
And then, she was suddenly alone. She no longer spoke with her family members, Yaz was distancing herself from her, Brooklynn was "dead", and the rest of their friends were trying to find a way to live their lives in this new reality. Sammy was left alone, abandoned. Her argument with Yaz... She was right, Yaz should have put more consideration and understanding into her situation; Sammy completely lost her footing. At the same time, Yaz made a good point – Sammy's animosity towards Brooklynn in season 3 is absolutely tied with her past experience – both with her family and with Yaz. And it all finally bubbled to the surface. In Texas, Sammy focused on running a farm. She distracted herself. Then, when she and Ben picked up Yaz, the positive feelings (overall) outweighed the negative ones. But when Brooklynn left them at that airport, Sammy (maybe for the first time) saw someone physically walk away from her and it brought back everything she buried in herself out of love. She is not just betrayed by Brooklynn, she probably also feels betrayed by life.

OK I've talked here, I think, about my strong belief that we need a Miss Climpson's Cattery TV show to jump on the mystery period drama bandwagon- and I've been thinking about what it might look like and have some ideas
Please feel free to add some in comments or reblogs!
The overall cast structure is basically like Call the Midwife S1 (or, more accurately, S2-3)- we have a POV "new to the crew" character who is purportedly the main character (but significantly lower-drama than Jenny lol) but it's functionally an ensemble. Miss Climpson is the Sister Julienne character, aka the on-the-ground boss, and then there are a bunch of other operatives, who all show up at SOME point in most episodes but only a few of them take center stage each episode in a particular case or two. There are also the support staff/actual typists, who are fun side characters.
Wimsey is a side character, and is played by a non-super-famous actor. He only appears in a few episodes at most in each season, usually as someone who is giving work to the operatives. While he can bring in operatives to help him on his cases, he is never allowed to solve any agency cases.
Harriet is a one or two episode max character. She meets Miss Climpson and possibly Miss Murchison but nobody else (as discussed in Gaudy Night). Honestly, if they don't show her that's fine too. At most she's brought in to provide help/insight on a literary world case.
The show starts right after the events of Strong Poison, and it's discussed as a recent case among the team. That said, unless it can be fit canonically into a Sayers story without undue bother, the episodes do NOT circle around existing Sayers plots.
Miss Murchison is a significant character, and has a love interest to whom she gets married sometime toward the third/fourth year of show canon (as we know that canonically she gets married sometime before the events of Gaudy Night). It is a cute older-nerd romance and everyone ships it. There is no "drama," just sweetness.
This is optional, but it is POSSIBLE that Wimsey brings Miss Meteyard into the firm, likely not permanently but possibly on a one-case basis for her advertising world expertise. She is initially snobbish about it but soon grows out of it.
As I've alluded to above, the main rule is- Sayers canon can never be violated. There is SO much space for great story and characterization that falls totally in line.
Everything else... is totally up to whoever! And I'm absolutely up for other ideas! These are just the main things I've thought of and I may come back and make additions/edits but here we go for now.
Though... casting idea- I'm not usually very good at this but I really feel like, speaking of Call the Midwife, Georgie Glen (Miss Higgins) could be an interesting Miss Climpson. Quite different than the excellent one in the Petherbridge/Walter adaptation of Strong Poison, but still good. I'm completely open to other suggestions though, as well as casting suggestions for other characters (including just actors who you think would be good for random currently-nonexistent/hypothesized ones- it's just so open ended, there are so many choices!).

TECH MOMENTS PT. 5
The Bad Batch S1 E1: Aftermath
This one's a doozy, my friends! Enjoy 100+ bullet points and 50+ pics of our favorite clone genius!
- Running through the droids, putting an explosive on everyone he can get his hands on. ❤
- “Hey, clanker! Catch!” (This was the moment I realized that I like him. My brain did a double take, like: "Wait he's attractive.") ❤
- Kicking a droid for no reason ❤
- Walking off the battlefield like it wasn’t even hard.
- I love the little distracted wave he gives General Billaba. Everything about him is just so endearing to me.
- His voice is a little more deep and raspy than usual while he’s talking about the war ending. Gosh, I’m down so bad for this man.
- He’s the only one who doesn’t have a blaster drawn when they first approach Caleb.
- Tech is one of the ones sent to talk to the regs about what’s going on. Echo makes sense since he’s technically still a reg, too, but why Tech? Because he’s the least likely to cause a problem.
- He’s also the first one to run to talk to the regs. Taking initiative once again.
- Tech: “The regs have been ordered to execute the Jedi.”
Hunter: “What? Which Jedi?”
Tech: “All of them.” The disbelief in his voice is subtle but there.
- This is a glow-up, people (a small one since he was already pretty, but still)! Tech is gorgeous, and no one can tell me otherwise. ❤
- I love his tiny smile when he finishes explaining how long they’ve been gone.
- The disappointed look on his face when Wrecker doesn’t understand his explanation of how long they’ve been away from Kamino.
- He has the smallest smile on his face when he hears that General Grevious has been defeated.
- “Just like I said.”
- He looks so done when Wrecker punches him.
- When the clones pass by with the body of a Jedi, it’s Tech Hunter shares a look with.
- “Excuse me, trooper, what division are you from?” *gets shoved aside* “Oh. Well, they seem the same to me.” ❤
- He immediately starts working on something once he gets back to their barracks.
- All the formulas and calculations on his bunk wall… a result of his sleepless nights, I’m sure.
- I love the curious look he gives Crosshair when he says they didn’t complete every objective.
- “And my exceptional mind.” I love him an unhealthy amount.
- “My guess is we are immune to the effects of the programming.” *looks at Crosshair* “Though I can’t be one hundred percent certain of it.” He looks so. Kriffing. GORGEOUS.
- “You are more machine than man. Percentage-wise, at least.” His little reassurance to Echo at the end.
- Hunter: “This is one meeting I don’t want to miss.”
Tech: “First time for everything.”
- The way he’s just looking at his datapad throughout the meeting.
- Stepping out of line to ask Hunter what’s wrong. First of all, noticing something’s up with him. And second, it takes some serious courage to break formation like that during such an important briefing while all your superiors can clearly see you.
- “Still don’t think the regs are programmed?”
- Crosshair: “Republic, Empire, what’s the difference?”
Tech: “The systematic termination of the Jedi is a big one for me.” ❤
- “Adolescent human female. Origins... uncertain.”
- Tech’s mouth quirks up in a tiny smile when Omega says she was wondering when they’d come back. He already likes her.
- His look of surprise when he realizes Omega knows his name.
- The way he stares after Omega in wonder. ❤
- There’s this split second (right after Hunter says "everyone's talking about it) where it looks like he’s looking directly into the camera, and it’s just like, “Well hello there, sir.”
- “Hopefully not mental. Clearly, we’d never pass that.” It's okay, I'm not neurotypical either, babe.
- Leaning around Hunter to see Omega.
- “You want to sit with us? That’s never happened before.”
- He can’t stop grinning at Omega after she says she likes him and his team for not fitting in. ❤
- I love the way his expression shifts when Hunter asks where Omega’s family is. Like, "that's actually a really good point."
- The way his face instantly drops when the regs make a jab at them. At Omega. He’s used to being pushed around, but he’s not pleased to see this precious girl being mocked.
- I love the way he’s all squared up in the background of this fight.
- Calling out a warning to Echo and then running over to the clone who knocks him out. It doesn’t show it, but Tech definitely threw a punch at the guy for hurting his best friend. ❤
- “We’re more deviant than we are defective.”
- “Then we are not being reprimanded?” He’s so used to getting in trouble.
- His eye roll when Wrecker charges into battle without thinking. I thank God every day that we can always see his eyes with those goggles. ❤
- He’s not at all phased by passing through live rounds to get to Wrecker. He’d gladly walk through fire for the people he loves.
- “Wrecker, are you alright?”
- That little head shake when Hunter signals a plan to him. Like he doesn’t think it will work, but he knows they have no other option.
- Wrecker: “Aw, I hate hand signals!”
Tech: “Perhaps if you memorized them?”
Wrecker: “Why don’t you memorize them?”
Tech: “I have.”
- They’re in the middle of a battle, but he’s sitting against those barriers so casually.
- The way he stops Wrecker from crushing the droid.
- Reprogramming the droid, then choosing to ride on its shoulders like a legend. (Note that it looks like he’s the only one to specifically get an impressed reaction out of Tarkin with his performance in this simulation) ❤
- Can I also just say how impressive that was? He completely reprogrammed a hostile droid to follow his commands while under heavy fire. In less than a minute. What a man, what a legend.
- “Wrecker. Look alive.” I feel like he has the capacity to lead, he just doesn’t want to.
- Reaches out to Wrecker (who calls him buddy). “I’m -” *flops down* “not going anywhere.” ❤
- I love the way he takes a deep breath and straightens his posture for a second after Echo and Wrecker help him up.
- “There’s a fundamental difference between taking fire in battle and being used as target practice.” I love how upset he is about this. Also, he’s also backing up Wrecker’s feelings with his own here.
- None of the others make eye contact with Tarkin when he’s examining them. Tech does and practically glares at him. ❤
- I love his expression shift when Tarkin says the insurgents are Separatists. I can’t place the expression, but I love it. It’s almost like “Come on, I thought the war was over. Oh well.”
- I love his little disappointed look when Echo says he can’t crack the files. And then how he immediately offers to help.
- “That’s not going near my rack. I refuse to sleep by a projectile again.” AGAIN?!
- Tech comes right behind Hunter to exit the ship (and then leads them for a significant portion of their walk). Possibly symbolizing his position within the squad.
- Echo: “What was that?”
Tech: “You don’t want to know.” 😑
- “Easy, Wrecker. Your programming’s kicking in.” I legit laughed out loud at this when I first watched the show. ❤
- His datapad lighting up his eyes makes him look so beautiful.
- Hunter always relies on him.
- The way he instantly senses that something’s wrong when he can’t see any droids in the camp.
- “There aren’t any droids, Wrecker.” You can tell that he’s starting to get a little agitated about this situation.
- Defending both sides when others choose one.
- Tech is the first one to ease up and stand down. Almost the second he hears Hunter start talking, like he knew he was going to tell them to back off. (And his eyes look stunning in that shot when he does. They immediately soften and become non-threatening.) You can just tell how much he and Hunter respect and trust each other. ❤
- He looks so pretty in this warm light of the camp. Who am I kidding, he looks good in every lighting.
- Geeking out over Saw. (And Saw is absolutely staring him down as he does. Like, they’re having a staring contest until he’s handed a weapon to examine. I don’t like that foreshadowing.)
- I also love the look on his face when Cross says “Is that a request?” I just always love his expressions.
- The way he leans forward with the tiniest hint of concern when Saw tells them to look at the insurgents they were sent to destroy. Anyone who says Tech is emotionless hasn’t been paying attention to him at all.
- His offended look when Saw said he thought he was the smart one.
- He is absolutely GORGEOUS in that shot where Crosshair says that the war is over. He’s literally flawless, and he’s perfect.
- “At least with the Republic, we knew where we stood. Tarkin and this Empire are a whole different story.”
- He literally jerks back in surprise when Cross says that Hunter isn’t fit to lead their squad.
- The concerned and confused look on his face when Hunter brings up Omega.
- “I would not discount Omega’s insight. A state of heightened awareness is not unusual for an enhanced clone such as herself.” Standing up for Omega before he knows her that well. ❤
- “When Nala Se spoke of five clones, Tarkin assumed that meant us, but Echo’s a reg. The fifth is Omega.”
- “Well, I thought it was obvious.” Leans against the doorframe like he couldn’t care less. ❤
- That glare when Crosshair suggests leaving Omega on Kamino.
- His little breath before saying “this is unusual” just makes him feel so alive to me.
- I love how he’s constantly glancing over and making eye contact with Crosshair. These two were so close.
- HIS BLACKS. TECH IN HIS BLACKS. Hallelujah for this scene. We wouldn’t be nearly as familiar with everyone's body types without it. Gorgeous man. Everyone likes to talk about Hunter's tiny waist, but Tech's is just as snatched.
- “Well, the mission wasn’t a total failure.” Of course he’s the first one to notice Omega. ❤
- His face is so warm and happy when he sees Omega. And then he immediately shifts to unamused at Crosshair’s complaint. ❤
- He shoots another tiny smile Omega’s way when Hunter says they were looking for her.
- “I never thought you disobeying orders was a problem.” Facts, love.
- Crosshair never directs his anger at Tech. It’s always at the others. Even if Tech does say something he doesn’t like, he doesn’t get mad until someone else expounds upon it, and then he snaps at them. Cross clearly has a favorite here.
- Cross starts shaking his head with clear distress and frustration when Wrecker says that they disobey orders all the time, and you can see that Tech notices it. He tilts his head and frowns a little bit. ❤
- The concerned look he and Echo exchange when Crosshair starts to confront Hunter again.
- He looks freaked out when the guards hit Hunter.
- Reaching out for Crosshair when they take him away. That broke my heart when I first noticed it. ❤
- The way he bounces his leg when he’s thinking hard. ❤
- “I’ve got it! Why didn’t I think of it before?”
- He talks with his hands. ❤
- Covering his mouth when Wrecker talks too loud.
- Running his fingers over the wall to see where the weak point is. ❤
- The confusion and worry on his face when Wrecker says it still didn’t work. Gorgeous, gorgeous.
- The way he glances over at Hunter (or probably the guards) before going over to help Wrecker. Ugh, he’s literally perfect.
- “Oh, yes it did.” ❤
- Bending a metal panel with his bare hands like it’s nothing. My man is strong! I love how he doesn’t follow the trope of the nerdy character being weak.
- Wrecker: “I’ll never fit through that!”
Tech shakes his head. “Astute as always, Wrecker.”
- I love the way he rolls his eyes and facepalms when Wrecker blows their cover.
- Grabbing a blaster and stunning the last conscious guard. He shoots twice, just to be sure, and carries the blaster. He’s such a boss.
- Turning to confirm the guards aren’t dead (or going to follow them) before leaving the brig.
- Tech looks so cute when he tells Wrecker to hold still.
- I love how Tech serves as the unofficial medic (with Echo’s help, of course).
- Omega: “I guess I got lucky.”
Tech: “She's not the only one.” *gestures to Wrecker without looking up* ❤
- "What's the plan, Hunter?"
- Omega: “What about your friends? Could any of them help us?”
Tech: “That would be a short list.”
- The way he leans in and smiles so brightly when Omega asks that question.
- His smile when Hunter tells him to plot a course for J-19. ❤
- I love the way he shakes his head with clear affection when Wrecker cheers this time.

Good Omens: Lockdown and Crowley not mentioning his living situation in S2*
*till S2E6 when he asks if he can have his apartment back bc he's bored of living in his car but Aziraphale doesn’t hear bc mentally he’s in Alpha Centauri.
Having read the 'Crowley doesn't tell him' Neil Gaiman ask close to when I first listened to Lockdown (I lived under a rock until recently), my initial thought was HAS HE BEEN LIVING IN HIS CAR FOR YEARS?! but I think he was still in his apartment in 2020:
as far as Hell knows, Crowley just had a pool party in holy water (the holiest) so the higher-ups are probably willing to give him some space (plus Beelzebub is busy going on pub dates w Gabriel)
while there should be ~8 months between the end of Season 1 events (The Very First Day of the Rest of Their Lives on Sunday, Aug 25, 2019) and the Lockdown phonecall (on or near the 30 year anniversary on May 1, 2020), I can't imagine that's a very long time for Hell, especially if you're understaffed and busy dealing with fallout from Almostgeddon / going on pub dates
Shax dropping off mail and asking about the boiler seems like something one does in the first few months of living somewhere, not ~3 years in (if S2 is in 2023)
That said, I think the phone call underlines why Crowley never directly tells Aziraphale that he is living in the Bentley in S2, and it's just a great conversation (all hail Gaiman) sooo I wrote about it:
***Note: This post analyzes the Lockdown phonecall from Crowley's perspective only. Our heroine is feeling quite emotionally vulnerable at this point in time so things are going to hit him harder than they normally would.
I do not think Aziraphale meant to cause him pain (!!) but Crowley can't see that yet and I've written this post in a way that reflects that missing insight. (I explain in more detail in this reblog if you are interested) I am working on a companion post for Aziraphale's side of this conversation and how I think it affects his behavior in S2 because if we know anything about these two, it's that their exactlys are different exactlys.***

Crowley’s habit of sleeping to skip time like an RPG character by a campfire amuses me to no end, but in this context it feels heavy. Crowley already worries about losing time with what he loves and he probably hoped things would be different between him and Aziraphale after the events of S1. But things don’t change much. Then lockdowns start, and Crowley is trapped in his apartment alone, transcendentally bored, and unable to make his brain shut up. Sleeping a month away starts to sound less awful.
But Crowley hasn’t given up yet; he’s still awake when Aziraphale calls, and he’s even giving it two more days. Was he waiting for Aziraphale to call? Is it even possible not to at least kind of wait for someone’s call when you are cut off from everything and the caller has been your only friend and crush for millennia?
Aziraphale asks why Crowley isn't "out and about" tempting people or setting a bad example and he responds:
C: Everyone's so miserable and cooped up right now anyway, and I just… well… don't have the heart for it. A: *glowing audibly* I'm not miserable~ C: Really?
Crowley sounds genuinely surprised at Aziraphale's happiness and quickly assumes it's because the angel has been around people. He's so lonely/depressed/in his own head that he hadn't even considered someone enjoying being 'cooped up'. *sob*
Aziraphale goes No actually I put the closed sign up in the window and I'm having the Time of My Life, never had so few customers, not in 200 years!, etc. Although, he says:
A: …There were a few young lads a couple of nights ago who broke in through the back and tried to steal the cashbox! But they soon saw the error of their ways~ C: *clearly amused* Did you smite them with your wroth? A: Well I certainly gave them a good talking to, and I sent each of them home with cake~ C: *annoyed, swooning* Cake? A: Quite a lot of cake, actually. C: *physically ill from having such a giant crush on this dumbass baker/security guard* eeeekkkgghhh I'm gonna regret asking but.. ...rrgh.. *30 seconds of Aziraphale joyfully describing his baking while Crowley probably tries very hard not to imagine the angel eating each item in sensual slow motion* I stg you can hear him struggling in the background once or twice
A: …And once I've baked them, I have to eat them all myself, which was why I was so delighted— C: To send your burglars home laden with baked goods, yes, nnyeaayeah I follow…
Crowley interrupts, finishing Aziraphale's sentence in his nervous hurry to say the next bit:
C: *loud inhale* You know, I could.. hunker down at your place. … Slither over and watch you eat cake. I could bring a bottle--a case of… something… drinkable…?
He's trying to sound so casual about it but this is someone who was rejected/abandoned by actual literal God after asking what he thought were welcome, uncontroversial questions. Asking makes him vulnerable. He's supposed to be the rescuer, not a demon in distress. He does not feel casual about asking.
Crowley knows it's unlikely but he's so miserable and desperate for company that he can't help but ask, just in case. Even the smallest chance of spending time trapped indoors with Aziraphale—with nothing to do but drink, watch him eat, and talk about things they'd normally avoid—is too tempting.
A: *panicking* Oh I— I— I— I— I'm afraid that would be Breaking All The Rules! *nervous breathing* Out of the question! I'll see you… when this is over. C: Right. gnnehh. I'm setting the alarm clock for July. Good night, angel. *dial tone*
And just like that, Crowley doesn't need two days to decide. The depression nap doubles in length. He doesn't hear how badly Aziraphale wants to say yes behind the fear, or maybe he does and it hurts worse because why isn't Crowley enough for him? You can almost hear the spiralling:
SHOCKING, asking made it worse. It always does doesn’t it? Why even bother? you just embarrass yourself.. SLITHER over? why did I say that *grumble grumble* of COURSE His Holy Holiness, your only friend in the universe, would rather eat cake by himself while everything goes to shit than ~deign~ to have you in his presence. "AsK aND yE sHaLl ReCeIvE" bugger this for a lark im going to bed
(a bit dramatic but we've all been there)
I imagine sleep doesn't come right away. Maybe his thoughts drift to when he sat beside the angel at a dark Tadfield bus stop after a rather eventful Saturday. Crowley must've felt a tiny bit hopeful when he invited Aziraphale to stay with him: Heaven had withdrawn its favor and the bookshop was gone; Aziraphale was like him now. Didn't that mean things would change?
"I don't think my side would like that." Apparently not.
In the end, Aziraphale did ride the bus back to Crowley's apartment and stayed till the next morning when he caught a cab, but only to sell the illusion. Crowley understood that as far as sides went, the angel was still on Heaven's, even if Heaven wasn't on his.
And now this: the entire world is shut down; there is nothing for Aziraphale to do but stay in and read and bake in his magically reconstituted bookshop and he still won't invite Crowley in. Burglars and un-fallen angels only—nobody who asks questions.
So... of course Crowley doesn't tell Aziraphale when he loses his apartment. He already knows what answer he would get; the angel has told him so many times. Aziraphale is a company man first, a companion to one very sad owl when convenient.
If Crowley works up the courage to say 'please take me in, I have nowhere else to go' and Aziraphale goes 'sorry, no, far too political, but I WILL risk being erased from the Book of Life to protect this nude amnesiac former coworker who always hated me,' it's going to be too much. You can't sleep long enough for that type of hurt to go away. Better not to say anything.
"Then nothing has to change, does it?"

Aziraphale and Trauma
[Just a note that I initially wrote this in response to this post: https://www.tumblr.com/theangelyouknew/732357015604756480?source=share&ref=_tumblr which is full of insightful info. I'm reposting my response here with some minor edits so it's easier to find in tags.]
This is something I actually find interesting within the fandom, because there seems to be this weird divide in fandom when it comes to Aziraphale.
See, I love Aziraphale. I think he's an amazing and well nuanced character, but a lot of the time fandom boils him down into this really simple version of himself. This happens both with people who dislike him and claim he's a bad person as well as with those who want to soften him up and make him more palatable. Aziraphale isn't the only one who has trouble with black and white thinking here!
Things like Coffee Theory remove Aziraphale's agency because the thought of Aziraphale doing something to hurt Crowley deliberately is something they can't stomach. If Aziraphale is acting under some kind of major magical influence, it means that it's possible to brush over the fact that he can - and has - hurt Crowley in the past and it certainly hasn't always been accidental.
There's a lot of Psychology I could touch on here, but it's honestly such a complicated topic that I don't really feel I can do it justice attached to a completely different topic.
But one thing I do want to touch on a bit is how Aziraphale asserts control in his own life via his connection with Crowley, and that touches on something equally complicated, which is something that's probably hard to understand.
Abuse victims are often manipulative.
I don't mean this at all as some kind of slight or insult. I've been an abuse victim myself and it's one reason I know it's true.
Fandom talks a lot about Crowley's trauma and he's got loads, to be sure. I think of that meme about "this bad boy can fit a lot of trauma" and it's very true. I've even seen people mention that Aziraphale has a different kind of Trauma than Crowley, which is also true.
What I haven't seen is someone addressing that the type of religious trauma is a form of CPTSD. CPTSD or "Complex PTSD" is a very specific form of PTSD. PTSD is characterized as being the result of a traumatic event - Crowley's fall, for example, is a good example of PTSD and I can go into that at some point. CPTSD is different because it's not a singular event, it's the result of being in a constant high stress situation. A lot of abuse victims - especially those abused by parental figures or significant others - have this form of PTSD.
A good way to see the difference is in comparing how they relate to their trauma. When Crowley thinks he's lost Aziraphale in S1, it sends him into a spiral. But importantly we see that this traumatic event is causing Crowley to go back to another traumatic event in time, triggering his memories of his fall. This emphasizes how much Crowley's fall defines his trauma. We rarely see him experiencing trauma at the hands of Hell, as he's mostly allowed freedom to handle his job on earth the way he wants.
https://cptsdfoundation.org/ defines CPTSD as "the results of ongoing, inescapable, relational trauma. Unlike Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD typically involves being hurt by another person. These hurts are ongoing, repeated, and often involving a betrayal and loss of safety."
In humans, this is caused by having no sense of safety in key moments of development. It strips away sense of self, sense of worth and really any agency. We even see the angels using direct gaslighting tactics on Aziraphale in S2, which I'm surprised doesn't get mentioned more often: When they come to the bookshop looking for Gabriel, they mention Gabriel and then almost immediately when Aziraphale asks "you were looking for Gabriel", Uriel outright says a line that goes something like "Did we say we were looking for Gabriel?", leading Aziraphale to fumble and try to remember if they did, in fact, say that at some point (they did).
So, one big thing to know about CPTSD and this kind of abuse related trauma is that learning to lie and be manipulative is often what people have to do to survive. Children with abusive parents will learn how to be manipulative in order to get what they need or avoid losing things they need.
We see this with Aziraphale, time and time again. He could just ASK Crowley for things he wants. A lot of people point out that he could ask and that Crowley would probably give in to him most of the time anyway. But that's not how it works in an abusive home. Instead, Aziraphale maneuvers Crowley into situations where Crowley is forced to give him what he needs or wants.
His lack of agency, as a result of his CPTSD, is also why he needs to be worked into making decisions that he already knows - or at least suspects - are right. That's why they have their little dance every time Crowley has to talk Aziraphale into something by finding the right way to frame it so it makes sense with Aziraphale's strict rule structure. These rules exist as a defensive mechanism too. Having rules makes it easier to figure out how to avoid being hurt and Aziraphale cannot simply step outside the rules because it's Not Safe. Not even with someone he trusts as much as Crowley.
The entire apology dance scene stands out for a few reasons. Everything Aziraphale does in the entire scene is an act that allows him to take control of the situation. He's already won, so to speak, because Crowley is back and Crowley is going to do what he wants. The apology is unnecessary on every level.
This post talks about how uncomfortable Crowley has to be sharing a space with Gabriel. Gabriel is with the abusive team, whether or not he was directly involved with Crowley's fall. Crowley also harbors a severe distress and mistrust of Gabriel because of Gabriel's attempts to destroy Aziraphale, the most important person to Crowley. But it's worth noting that Aziraphale is uncomfortable too.
Another good indicator of how stressed Aziraphale is with all this is that he doesn't eat ANYTHING when Gabriel is in the shop. The only food he consumes in modern era is when he's in the Bentley which is a "safe" space. Gabriel constantly hounded Aziraphale over eating and despite offering Gabriel hot chocolate, we don't see him partaking himself. He does briefly drink to demonstrate how "drinking tea" works for Muriel, but he doesn't seem to drink from his cup at all after demonstrating.
The bookshop is also Aziraphale's safe space, his ONLY safe space - Crowley still technically has the Bentley, and honestly I feel like Aziraphale wanting to borrow the Bentley is actually partially because he needs to get away from Gabriel and the Bentley is the only place that feels safe for him at the moment. Shax ruins any illusion of safety for him, but Aziraphale is much more enthused for his trip in ep3 and a fair amount of it is because he's not trapped with Gabriel.
A small note here, as a thought occurs to me. Aziraphale asserting that the Bentley is "our car" is probably mostly for himself. He's trying to realign his thinking to make the Bentley an acceptable "safe space" for himself prior to the trip.
There is a very different relationship dynamic when it comes to Gabriel and Aziraphale because Gabriel is the constant source of Aziraphale's trauma. He's Aziraphale's superior, the one he has to report to, the one who passes down his missions and his punishments. When Aziraphale takes Gabriel in, he's just invited his former abuser of over 6000 years into his safe haven. This is a hugely uncomfortable thing for an abuse survivor.
Worst of all, because Jim is, for all intents and purposes, NOT Gabriel, Aziraphale can't bring himself to lash out at his former abuser the way he wants to.
That brings us back to this apology scene.
There are two major things going on here and both of them are bad and hurtful toward Crowley. They're also both intensely unfair. I love Aziraphale but this was definitely a dick move.
Firstly: Aziraphale is using Crowley to reassert a sense of control over the situation because he is spiraling. He can't assert control over his life and his shop, which is one thing that he falls back on heavily, and that leaves him scrambling to find somewhere where he can control his situation. He makes Crowley go through this whole unnecessary apology and dance routine because it makes him feel like he has control over SOMETHING in his life right now.
Secondly: Aziraphale is also enacting his own trauma on Crowley. He's treating Crowley the way Heaven treats him. This is a direct parallel to the way Crowley terrorizes his house plants because he can't do anything to the people who actually caused his trauma. This is, obviously, wildly unfair of Aziraphale to do - and I'm fairly sure there are other small moments where Aziraphale does this in a mild way, I'd have to rewatch again.
These are both behaviors common in CPTSD caused by environments that apply this constant state of stress.
I'm not going to say it's right, or that Aziraphale isn't being a bit of a bastard in this moment - he absolutely is - but this behavior does have some obvious triggers that might be easy to overlook. It's just important to understand that Aziraphale is falling into self-preservation habits that are actively detrimental to his relationship with Crowley. It's not just the manipulation, he's also hiding things and lying to Crowley when he really shouldn't be - both things often necessary in abusive environments - but he's doing it because that's the method that he's created that works with his abusive relationship in Heaven and he's falling back on it because he feels unsafe. The trouble is, this survival tactic does not work with Crowley and actively makes things worse because it shuts down open communication entirely.

thoughts on how the sam & dean part of the fight before sam left for stanford went !
i am addicted to thinking about precanon so thank you for this <33
i think people r generally way too optimistic about how that initial seperation between them went. dean is awful to sam about stanford even years after he left and years after he came back!! hes still very visibly angry about it in s5 which is NINE YEARS after he left in the first place and refuses to even tolerate the idea it was a good moment for sam. i cannot comprehend how people think 22 year old dean had the emotional maturity to even let sam go without a fight, nevermind be supportive about it.
like. theres this amazinggg art on here of sam hitchhiking to stanford and all the comments are like 'erm that black eye would be from JOHN actually!' (side note but it is so funny to me how spn fans decide john hit them based on implication (which i agree w... to an extent...) but dean hitting sam onscreen multiple times somehow translates to 'DEAN WOULD NEVER DO THAT'. erm. okay.) 'nooo dean would've given sam a lift!'
and like. what show are you watching. if dean would've given sam a lift he would've done it to the bus station in moody silence and then locked the doors of the impala so sam couldn't get out to catch his bus to stanford and they would've started physically fighting for the car keys and dean eventually wouldve let sam get them and sam wouldve left. or something. but it would not be some sweet brotherly moment bc that directly contradicts canon <3
i do think the worst of the fight is between sam & john - that's always what's implied in canon - and in my head dean's just standing there stonefaced maybe refusing to even talk to sam until theyre left alone somehow and he breaks. but i also think dean hits sam at some point, will always have the image in my head of sam showing up to stanford w a bloody nose and fending off questions. (internally hes like no my dad didnt do this it was my brother so its fine. <3.) theres a scene like this in one of my fics so im just drawing from that. but. like....
idk how dean/john finds out. if dean found out before john, i think dean probably wouldve run to him about it in an attempt to get sam Not To Go as much as it would be nice if he didnt, so i reckon they have to find out at about the same time. i think sam is unsure what to expect from dean, who of course (as far as we see both in flashbacks and in canon) alternates between genuine care and support and angry, desperate possessiveness. he probably hopes for the best and expects the worst and gets the worst.
there r definitely lots of different ways it could go....maybe sam tells dean and dean tells john. maybe sam tells john without telling dean at all and thats how dean finds out which totally wrecks him. maybe sam tells them both at the same time. maybe sam never tells them and they find the acceptance letter. this is why stanford fight is sooo fascinating. i feel like i could write five different versions of it and all would be possible/interesting.
but whichever way, i just dont see dean as contradicting john. he generally Doesnt Ever precanon, this is established, he admits it himself, thats why its such a huge moment when he defends sam at the end of s1.....sam going on about dean 'protecting him' is 1. more subtle and probably to do with dean being the one to shoulder most of johns emotional baggage than the heller misinterpretation of 'john hit dean but not sam and thats what this means!!!' (tho i am sure dean did genuinely Protect sam sometimes including from physical violence. of course he did. this isnt to discredit that..i just emphasise the Sometimes.). and 2. partially just classic Sam Rewriting History (u always protected me from dad, from lucifer....girl he did those things very little certainly not always. know your worth sam winchester).
so if dean gives sam a very angry lift (to a nearby bus station...there is absolutely zero fucking way hes driving him to stanford and tbh i already find this quite unlikely but possibilities r interesting) its on john's say-so or at least not disapproval. which like. sure maybe. john certainly is concerned about sam's safety even after he kicks him out, checking up on him at stanford etc, id believe that hed want to ensure sam Gets there even if the fight ended up so bad he told sam he couldnt come back. tho hes stubborn and i dont think hed say it. so maybe itd be a case of dean kind of picking up that that's what john wants and complying even though right now half of him wants to never see sam again and the other half wants to tie him to the radiator so he can never leave. sorry i am literally brainstorming fic ideas in this ask answer now.
anyway....SORRY id say long ass answer as always but this is actually INSANELY long......sorry guys im about to embark upon getting tested for adhd and maybe then my rambles will be, while not shorter in length, more cohesive? tldr fandom is wrong dean is an absolute ASS during stanford fight. obviously sam leaving devastates him and how does dean cope with devastation or perceived abandonment do we think?? hm?? he is just as angry as john for the same and different reasons. and thats really so much more interesting than him being Secretly Supportive. <3
#SORRY SORRY OH MY GOD. In 6x06, June seems indifferent to Nick. She doesn't act with him like the loving woman she was with him until now. It's very disappointing. And where did this idea of going to Paris come from? Even in 4x09, they were talking about Hawaii. I'm still Team Nick!
Me too!! Always🖤
So I rewatched last night and while there were some tonal things that seemed a bit off, I really don't agree that June seems indifferent to Nick in the episode as we whole.
Looking at it scene by scene, first we have them in Lawrence's basement when he brings her the letters--she's anxiously awaiting him, when she sees him she does a quick little "love blink" and her eyes are soft. She thanks him with warmth. She senses something off in his demeanor and says "you ok?" but he says "yeah" so she lets it go. She goes quickly into business mode (let's get out of here,"I'll tell you in the car") which I think it understandable given the dangerous situation—I mean sure, 4x03 June said fuck it and ran back out on that bridge to make out with him, full handcuffed and with guardians in plain view, but she did probably think she'd never see him again at that point—and interestingly I think Nick would generally be the one in this situation saying "ok we gotta go". But here he's lingering, he grabs her hand and she so she becomes curious, wary (what's going on?). Then he's (taking an adorably roundabout way of lol) asking her to stay the night with him. I feel like I see some excitement on her face at the prospect but she's still thrown off base by how he's acting and it's still all wrapped up in confusion (what is he really saying/asking) so she asks again what's wrong and similar to in 2x06 he can't express his own worry for himself verbally so he initiates physical contact for reassurance instead. I think she's startled at first and scared because she knows him and now she knows there's something wrong if he's seeking out this comfort from her. She does embrace him fully and close her eyes for a moment, melting into the hug. Here he tells her "sometimes I think you're the only good thing in my life" and she continues looking concerned for him.
Now, I wish I knew what they talked about in the car on the way to his house in NB (I'm not sure how long of a drive that is??). She obviously filled him in on why she's there and the Mayday plan but I have to think that they didn't talk about why Nick's being so weird Nick's current problems. I would think the drive would be long enough to get into it; who knows maybe June prodded again and Nick deflected again, maybe he just wanted to get to the house so he could actually show her the plan he'd been working on for them (to run away together) and didn't want to get into all of it until then.
Then of course there's the scene at the end of the episode in Serena's house (where BTW they're just hanging out in front of the window in plain view of the street with the curtains wide open?? OK 😅). She's anxiously awaiting him again, and again immediately clocks something off about his demeanor—he seems harried, manic almost. She's still looking at him with softness and concern. Then she's incredulous, smiling (go with you where??), looking deep into his eyes. She's overcome with emotion: marveling, excited and happy in a way we only see with Nick. I see a look of total love on her face when he says "come with me, June" and the she's kissing him (again, window wiiiide open, guys). Then of course it's all downhill from there. But her expression in the final moments, that's anything but a look of indifference, that's pure and utter devastation.
Not sure if you're also including the s1 flashback scene in this interpretation but (while I have some complicated thoughts about this I'm still parsing out) this seemed like a believable cute post coital pillow talk scene She's not at the utterly-in-love phase yet but she definitely seems fully smitten and there's an overall feeling of warmth and affection.
To go back to the first scene in the basement for a minute, while I didn't interpret this as June being cold or indifferent, I DO think it's really important context for the episode—and probably next episode(s) to come—to note that she does seem somewhat distracted, maybe too absorbed in worries and thoughts of her own to really fully clock that there's something really big going on under the surface with Nick, or at least to really push on the topic. And sadly, with some notable exceptions ("What about you" in 2x06 comes to mind as an example), this has kind of been the repeating theme of their dynamic across the seasons. Somewhat understandable while June was in Gilead and in the more vulnerable position like 98% of the time. But now she's out, she's free. She could be living safely and quietly in Alaska if she wanted. She's still got problems and there's danger (again, the latter mainly as a necessary result of her own choices) but the dynamic has shifted and Nick's really the one in the more precarious position.
But she's not really saying "what about you" anymore, she's caught up in her own shit. She asks "what's wrong" but doesn't dig deeper when he deflects. She's worried in the moment (when she hears the gunshots in 6x03 and “what are you going to do about those guards?") but then goes into "Nick will handle it" mode and seems to largely forget about it. We don't see her having deeper or lasting concerns about Nick's safety and mental state; she doesn't appear to really think about the dangerous position he's in because of all he's doing to help her, not to mention the emotional toll, and realize that he might need some help, or at the very least some moral support. And this is important to note because I think this is very much going to play into the fallout of Nick giving up the Mayday Jezebels plan. I think she's probably gonna have an emotional gut reaction and not think about what possible underlying factors could have caused Nick to do it. She's probably going to stay in this self-righteous, self-absorbed bubble of hurt and anger for at least an episode or two. And then I have to hope that she'll have a moment of self-reflection, have to take a step back from herself and realize that Nick's not fucking superman, he's human. And she hasn't really been treating him as such lately, and it's really unfair. IDK maybe this is what you're picking up on as indifference so yeah, I definitely get that.
As for the Paris reference--on the one hand, it seemed to come completely out of nowhere, and on the other hand (for me at least) was actually a fully well-timed "ding ding ding" moment because of my recent fascination with the comparison to Casablanca and examining all the parallels there seem to be here (and now I have another to add to the list). Paris is notably where the two main characters in Casablanca met and fell in love, and it's a continuing theme throughout the movie. I feel like it can't be a coincidence that they bring it up now, but I guess we'll see where they go with that. I'm still dreaming of an eventual Hawaiian beachside happy ending on these two (doesn't hurt to have a backup plan, though I guess😉). Anyway, sorry for the really long reply!

some favourite random things about ray vecchio, now ive finished the rewatch!
Goodbye Ray Vecchio, am now firmly and entirely in season 3, so will give a little list as a "oh boy this character scratched an itch" type of farewell. so. some stuff
will begin with something that @gjdraws also pointed out to me -- he's got style. he's sartorial. he likes nice clothes, both in s1 and s2, but he grows up a bit in the latter, which, usually I'd call a downgrade -- fancy patterned silk shirts for turtlenecks and muted colours? but it totally works, it works with the haircut (embrace the baldness!) it works with leaning into the character's serious side more often, it works as a development of who Ray is when we first meet him (a bit insecure, job on the rocks, holding on to his past self and not knowing where to go, pretending his just a silly guy no ignore all the tragic backstory lookat my amazing Gonzo shirt!) to where he goes (more settled in himself, more confident, allowing some of the more melancholy elements to seep through, a bit more serious on the whole), also, look... they're both giving me transmasc swag. it's just overall a super developed sense of Style. Ray likes looking good and he likes good textures. GJ put it as: Sartorial Baby
in the middle of plot will be doing unrelated tasks for fraser, simply because he was asked if he could help. he doesn't make a big deal of doing these things, this is simply what he does (notable examples, the wolf pass in diefenbaker's day off, the search for glendorlan scotch in some like it red)
spends an incredible amount of time trying to help fraser stand up for himself/become more comfortable with interpersonal conflict, but will also take over when fraser struggles (notable examples, vault, the promise, one good man, red white or blue)
every once in awhile you'll get an almost casual tidbit of some of the most tragic backstory and ray will basically go "anyway we don't have time for that, im just a guy" and the story will move on (notable examples, the pilot, gift of the wheelman, north, we are the eggmen, exceptions, the duel and juliet is bleeding in which we don't move on and just scream instead)
on that note, is really strongly hinted to have family history with the mob and crime, which adds such a layer to his joining the police force and his initial friendship with- and then disgust for- zuko, and his going undercover in the mob (his father seems to have been more of a petty criminal, but there's enough to infer there's some ties there, and then there's uncle lorenzo. also ray's tendency to "know a guy who knows a guy" that sometimes seems to be adjacent to legality, and the fact that his father didn't want him to be a cop)
seems to have been a hit with the girls back when he was a teen/young adult (which, yeah, i get it, ive seen young david marciano and ray has real charm to boot) (notable examples, juliet is bleeding, one good man, some like it red)
likes inserting random fancy words and phrases into conversation on occasion (notable examples: "chagrin" in free willy, "grand jeté" twice in mask, obvs the famous "Jai Nai Sai Qua" pronunciation in a cop a mountie and a baby)
believes in luck charms and signs (notable examples, we are the eggmen, body language)
takes on a caregiving role and it's hinted he's probably done that since childhood and isn't good at putting that down/letting himself be cared for in turn (obvs The Pilot, every single thing he does for Fraser all the time, i think also it's shown with Frannie, albeit more abrasively, esp Heaven and Earth and his concern for her in Vault and for the whole family in The Duel -- vice versa I think it's more subtle and often framed through his dad putting him down, for example in Gift Of The Wheelman and North, and through his Frank and Irene Zuko backstory in The Deal and Juliet... also there's Witness when he gets beat up in jail, that whole episode revolves in my brain)
on that note, @gjdraws also brought up how he needs to do things for someone when he's upset for them or he'll go absolutely crazy. the way he is in The Pilot with Fraser, and the amazing The Deal "can I get you a coffee" sequence and the entirety of Bird In The Hand really spring to mind
all the times this man has had to take care of a severely hurt fraser!!!!!! emotionally and physically!!!!!!!!! The Pilot, Manhunt, The Wild Bunch, The Blue Line, The Deal, Letting Go, North, Bird In The Hand, One Good Man, Flashback some of the big ones...
I really like his relationship with his family -- I'd want to explore it even more, but I think his canonical protective softness with his mother, and the much more abrasive sibling relationship with Frannie that is still ultimately based in love, but also I think comes a bit from them being quite similar in a lot of ways in terms of the world beating up on them quite a bit... there's so much there to unpack (the house they all live in!! i wish we knew more about his youngest sister as well)
another @gjdraws addition: his love for the riv, and the riv's love for him. the subtext of the riv itself being a form of magic -- loses one and another riv appears to find him
#ray vecchio#due south#au revoir to a real one#i'll see you in the finale#gonna post a proper rundown of Times ray tries to help fraser stick up for himself because i noted it down during my watch#alongside some other things...

The False Dichotomy of What Should Be Helluva Boss’s Focus
“It should have just been a silly murder of the week show!”
Vs.
“No the IMP episodes were boring the character drama is more engaging!”
These arguments are two opposing sides of the biggest debate in the Helluva Boss fandom.
There are people who think it should have just stayed a simple murder-of-the-week comedy, that the show lost its edge and turned into a boring soap opera.
And on the flip side there are people who think the more character driven plots make for a better show longterm and that the mission episodes that focus on the business would get stale and boring.
I only joined the fandom back in May of 2024, I’m not a longterm fan but this debate has been going on for as long as I’ve been here, and based on the numerous YouTube videos recommended to me, it’s been going on for even longer than that.
Through it all I have realized what my biggest problem with this debate is.
Why does it have to be one or the other?
There is validity in the first group being annoyed that the business itself had fallen out of focus, but there is also validity in the second group wanting the show to evolve beyond its initial premise.
But for this show to thrive, it needs both the character drama and the relevancy of IMP as a business in the story.
And when I say relevancy of IMP as a business, I am not suggesting we go back to strictly the “murder of the week” format because the show has evolved beyond just the assassinations, but keep IMP as a plot device, let it be the reason the episodes’ plot happens more often than not or at least let it be used as the vehicle for character exploration.
IMP, and by association, Blitz, is the reason characters like Millie, Moxxie, Loona, and Stolas were able to find the strength to leave behind the lives they felt trapped in and why they began their journey to living life the way they want to. Their lives are the way they are because of this business, and that’s why keeping it as a relevant part of the show, even if the missions themselves aren’t the point, is crucial to the story’s narrative.
IMP is what sets them apart, sets Blitz apart, showcasing that imps are more than capable of standing on their own two feet. It is also the reason all the character are here in the story. Let it be relevant to what’s happening in the story. You don’t need an episodic “murder of the week” format to do it.
And speaking of which, on the other side of the spectrum, as much as I love S1, if the show never evolved beyond the “murder of the week” formula, it would have gotten boring and it could have risked turning into a Miraculous Ladybug situation, a show that spent four out of its six seasons going nowhere, and once it realized it had to go somewhere it fumbled the bag super hard.
The show needs both the murder business and the character drama to thrive. It needs the murder business as a plot device to keep the show focused, and it needs the complex character drama to give the show any substance.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, second half of S2 has a much better grasp on balancing both, and episode over episode structure in the second half has a much more logical and focused progression:
“Full Moon” has Stolas give Blitz the means to run his business independent of the grimoire while confessing his feelings to Blitz, something that goes poorly for both of them.
“Apology Tour” is the aftermath of the confession, I’m gonna assume it’s been a month in between considering the calendar in the previous episode and it being Halloween in this one, and Blitz trying to understand what went wrong and make things right, only to make things worse.
“Ghostfuckers” deals with the aftermath of “Apology Tour” in which Blitz completely falls apart, self-destructs, and almost tanks the one thing he is most proud of: his business. But this episode serves to remind him that the business he created allowed people like Millie to thrive and that he needs to cherish it and his friends more.
“Mastermind” is the consequences of all their fuckery, and how dangerously close they come to losing everything. In fact Stolas does end up losing everything because of it, and it all happened because of the deal he and Blitz struck to keep IMP afloat.
And finally “Sinsmas” is the direct aftermath of “Mastermind”, in which Blitz finally gets to bring Stolas into his world and gets to show him the business he created, for better or worse.
While S2B still has flaws in its pacing and tonal inconsistencies, it feels more focused and balances elements of the initial premise with the character drama that kept people intrigued. And I really really hope the writers took what made S2B work and kept that going for S3.
I’m open to discussion if anyone has to to add about this post!

I’m smack in the middle of a spontaneous rewatch, so do you wanna hear my batshit zombie land saga theory?
(yeah you do, here we go)
so, this guy —
is obviously not who he says he is. mysterious idol producer who spent enough time in hollywood learning makeup sfx skills that makes zombies regularly look like normal living teenage girls, who then despite his apparent egregious talent with a makeup brush, returns to his very small and little known hometown in japan? who happens to also figure out how to bring back girls that have been killed by the Saga curse?
yeah, we as the audience are set up to know there’s more to him that meets the eye. especially with the flashback to him as Sakura’s pre-death classmate, Inui, which I am mentally chewing on like a dog with a bone.
(like romero here.)
but!! while I don’t have a lot of proof, and I'm working from the anime alone (not the manga that came out after or Zombie Land Saga Gaiden), due to my own weird special interest in funerary practices, I have a theory about what he might actually be:
Kotaro either is or was at some point, a mortician, or a yukanshi/nōkanshi.
(putting this under a cut, because it gets long, and also for some s1 and s2 spoilers.)
this initially occurred to me in season one, episode two, when we first saw Kotaro putting makeup on Sakura before a show in the back of the van, specifically applying a flesh-colored putty with something that looked like an offhand spatula to the big scar in the middle of her forehead. You can see it at the timestamp 14:11.
this reminded me of something called Embalmer’s Putty, which is used in the embalming process (or a general process of touching up the decedent minus chemical preservation) to fill in wounds for a viewing, visiting hours, or any gathering where the deceased’s loved ones might want to see their body for a last time.
here are screengrabs from two different funerary equipment companies showing what embalmer’s putty looks like and what it can do:

embalming putty can be already flesh-toned so as to look like living skin, and thus blend in with the mortician’s final product: making the deceased look more lively and at rest, restoring their dignity and giving peace of mind to the bereaved who want to see them off.
this process is actually really well summarized here, in this article from Regal Casket company:

if Kotaro was trained as a mortician or funerary cosmetologist, he would be trained to do exactly what he does every time he helps the girls get ready: making them look alive, healthy, and most importantly, lacking any visible mortal wounds that could upset their living audience. The girls themselves remark on how he makes them not only look like their old selves, but at times even better than before. this is exactly the type of skill set he would need to cultivate if he was preparing bodies for a last moment together with the deceased's loved ones, so they don't remember the celebrant as they were when they died, but how they looked in life.
keep in mind also that if Kotaro really had learned his makeup skills in Hollywood, he would have learned how to apply wound makeup/sfx to in-tact, healthy, living skin to make it look dead or wounded, not the other way around. makeup artists, even special effects makeup artists, are not taught how to work with dead or decaying human skin.
on top of this, a regular special effects artist would not be trained to fill grave injuries or mortal wounds, because their canvases are all living, presumably healthy people with no major injuries, who are able to go on movie sets and act for hours and hours at a time.
Kotaro wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) even be using the same kind of makeup that would go on living people, because dead bodies, obviously, are often room temperature at most when they’re being prepared for viewing, if not colder due to being held temporarily in cooling storage to prevent decay. funerary cosmetics are specifically formulated to account for this lack of temperature in a dead person, because makeup spreads differently over cold skin as compared to the warm skin of someone alive. trying to put on regular makeup, even special effects makeup, would look more than off - something Franchouchou is definitely keen to avoid if they want to keep their cover. (Or wanted to, before the storm aftermath of s2.)
some other points of interest that (to me) can be read to support this theory:
Kotaro drives a black van. while not a hearse (or “funeral coach” as the industry sometimes calls them) it’s still the right color to blend in to a funeral procession if needed, and large enough to store necessary equipment for services, viewings, etc.
Kotaro is always in a suit except when he's bathing or sleeping - specifically, a dark-colored suit. Even when the man was in a full depressive episode by the beginning of s2, he still kept his suit pants and dress shirt. It serves the purpose of being seen as a (semi-)competent idol producer who’s always ready to make a deal for his band, sure! but if his day job when he don’t see him (going away “on business” like during the episode Sakura had amnesia) it also suits him working in the somber, subdued environment of a funeral home. (minus the shades, red vest, and dried squid in his pocket. those are likely just part of his persona for Franchouchou's sake.)
Kotaro had to become familiar with resurrection magic somehow. Who’s to say he couldn’t come into contact with it during his work at a funeral home or as a mortician, something that would keep him adjacent to death and its sacred rites and practices? possibly from a young age, considering many funeral workers can start an apprenticeship or internship in their late teens? Wouldn’t that make more sense contextually than him just stumbling across it in a library, or randomly in a magical encounter in a world where zombies exist?
Kotaro coughing up blood at the end of s2 might be the Curse, but it might also be the stress of managing Franchouchou on top of the stress of his day job. these positions can be highly taxing emotionally and physically, as one needs to be a steadying presence for people on some of the worst days of their lives, and while embalming isn't as much of a thing in Japan (to my knowledge), exposure to certain chemicals from the restoration process over time has proven to be hazardous to one's health.
“okay, rae, maybe,” you’re saying. “but some of these are still kind of a stretch.”
this is where I get a little more speculative, but bear with me:
from the brief glimpse we have of him as Inui, and based on the translation of “Inui” and “Tatsumi” being opposite directions (northwest and southeast, respectively), we know that Kotaro wasn’t always this brash, loud idiot producer we know today. there was apparently a point in high school where he was very shy, and was maybe friends with Sakura, or at least acquaintences.
what if Inui was so shy and soft-spoken because he had grown up in the world of funerary traditions? many funeral homes are often generational, handed down from parent to child as a family business. someone accustomed (or maybe just exposed) to death that early might have some reasons to be kind of quiet and withdrawn.
this might also account for how he knew about the other dead girls of Franchouchou before Sakura. if one of his parents or even his grandparents were handling Saga’s deceased, he would have had an opportunity to hear about the accidents that killed them before the news spread as widely, encounter them in the restoration stage as dead bodies (depending on when they happened and if he was alive yet), and even seen their makeup applied by his predecessors if he was allowed in the prep room, or at least hear their recollections of it after the fact.
we know that he’s descended from Kiichi, Yugiri's love interest from when she was alive, who was a young man dedicated to seeing Saga's return after it merged with another region and lost its name. we also know he's being mentored by the immortal bartender Jofuku, who's said to be Saga's living embodiment, and supposedly is or is based on a wizard from mythology who discovered the Elixir of Immortality. while Jofuku is a likely source for the magic of necromancy, and maybe even selected the girls he wanted resurrected, it would make sense that people involved with Saga's dead were in contact to some degree with the man who is Saga itself, especially since the ZSL fandom wiki has noted that Saga's Curse in current times has manifested as a low birth rate and aging population. if there are more dead and dying in Saga than there are living, a family funeral home would be kept quite busy, on top of all the random accidents that the Curse causes to cut down people who would bring Saga recognition or prosperity.
so let's try this on for size: Inui grows up in a family of yukanshi/nōkanshi, who prepare the decedents for customary otsuya -- a wake held the night before the funeral itself, meant to give the living bereaved a last night to spend with their late loved one. his family likely also participates to some degree in the funeral ceremony itself (osohiki) and the cremation (kasou) before the ashes are interred. (I got my info on Japanese funerals here, as imperfect as it may be.) Inui learns about the historical funerals of Saga's famous dead that he wasn't around for through his family's experiences or through their ties to Jofuku. He begins training to take over the family business maybe as a teenager, this peculiar adolescence maybe leaving him a little more reserved than his classmates.
it might also give him the chance to practice his proficiency with music composition and his instruments -- song selection is a not-small part of modern funerary practices. maybe his family encouraged him to learn to write songs and play so he could perform at funerals? his stage fright evidenced in other episodes would shut that down pretty quickly, of course, but maybe this interest in music is how he becomes friends with Sakura to begin with, as evidenced by the clip of the CD exchange.
but then Sakura is killed in a terrible accident and his world turns upside down. it's bad enough that he's grieving, but then her body might come to his family's funeral home to be prepared for her ceremony and interment. he sees this lively, determined girl he admired dead and cold on the prep room table, her beautiful face ruined, and it's just not fair. how can his heart not break?
maybe he goes to Jofuku and demands to know what the old man knows about bringing people back, and the Curse. maybe he's less direct, but seeks the knowledge of necromancy for himself, with his family so close to death for so many generations. he continues his training for ten years, learning all he can about how to make the dearly departed look like themselves again. look better than themselves, even.
when the Zombie Land Saga Project is in the planning stages, living in a funeral family might give him access to or secondhand knowledge of where all the girls' ashes are interred. eventually, his line of work gives him the opportunity to collect however much he needs from each for the magic to work.
he knows it can, because even though Jofuku himself has never died, Romero has, and has been successfully brought back at some point. he's a little weird and not the prettiest, but he's still very much a dog.
ten years later, when the spell takes hold and his undead Saga champions resurrect, he knows how to make each and every one of them look like their old selves again.
he does Sakura's makeup first, just to see his old friend again as he remembered her.
we know how the rest goes from there, but this is my overarching theory that explains Why Kotaro Tatsumi outside his relationship to Sakura, but also how he could come up with Zombie Land Saga outside of just being a citizen of Saga himself.
anyway!! apologies if this was scattered, I wrote it in dribs and drabs throughout the day, but it's been gnawing at me for a minute. if there's anything canon I don't know about that completely obliterates this theory, then just call it an AU, and if this has already been agreed on in other parts of fandom, just call me fashionably late.
if you've read this long, you're a sweetheart <3
#zombieland saga#zombie land saga#zls#kotaro tatsumi#tatsumi kotaro#fandom stuff#fandom theory#and then rarae writes#this was so long I thought I'd put it here instead so it didn't get lost on my other blogs#anyway watch me nerd out about this guy who might overlap with a very specific interest of mine

As someone who loves both Kenny and Violet, I feel like I’ve found my calling here 😭😭😭
They’re genuinely so similar, and I do agree that the fandom has male bias, as well as protagonist bias actually
Clementine has the opportunity to befriend/romance Violet and then let her get kidnapped 20 minutes later. And for Violet, that is the most obvious feeling of betrayal! I don’t understand why people in the fandom struggle to realize that their actions have consequences
Lee can basically hate Kenny the entirety of the first season and then the fandom defends Kenny for his actions.
Clearly most of us totally understand Kenny’s response to Lee’s and by extension Clementine’s behavior, so why can’t they understand Violet’s response to Clem’s? Makes no sense to me
honestly i feel like aside from having a male bias the fandom has more of a kenny bias than a protag bias. i see his ass EVERYWHERE. CONSTANTLY. some people act like he raised clem as much as lee did 😭 (and i dont like the way the fandom talks about clem sometimes 😒 ties into the "weird about women" stuff)(and javi? wheres javi? i would like to see more javi. i actually think i see david more than javi)
anyway. i DO find kenny to be a compelling character and understand Why hes popular. its why i initially thought vi would be more popular among those fans! people who like both kenny and vi i can trust to have understood the assignment 💀 because they really do share similarities. but things some people LOVE kenny for they absolutely LOATHE violet for. and its just???? whats not clicking???
i really dont understand why some people act So Shocked by violets reaction in the cells. like hello?? YOU did this to her??? shes done nothing but put herself on the line for clem (even if clem is mean and ungrateful about it), and the One time vi needs clem to have her back, she doesnt (even tho its an impossible choice to make, and deep down vi understands this). and people shock pikachu face when it pushes her back to minnie like no shit??? but i dont think theyre even paying attention to violets character in the first place so 🙄😑 violet settled into that leadership position on her own and not only do you strip her of that role by letting her get taken she also feels discarded by the One Person who was actually influencing her to change for the better in the first place. AND you can do it all 20 minutes after kissing her. of course shes hurt!!! but people act like shes soooo unreasonable for her behavior (and vi would later agree with them! she tries apologizing to clem on the beach actually. thats how quickly she regrets it. but its too late at that point for her i guess 🙄 irredeemable. to the stocks)
kenny will Literally refuse to help lee look for clem if you pissed him off too much like 😭?? if you arent kissing kennys ass 24/7 he is the worlds biggest bitch about it. but endless excuses for kennys behavior for some reason 🤨 him trying to save ben (or christa but its better with ben narratively) is his first Real selfless act and its why its such a compelling conclusion for his S1 arc (only compounded by the fact its BEN of all people hes trying to save, the reason his family is dead). and S2 kenny is all about how his mental health is in sharp decline and hes becoming more violent as he attempts to control what he cannot 💀 kenny defenders out here using up all the oxygen in the room to make excuses for his actions but the minute vi makes One mistake she immediately regrets (after being nothing but loyal), shes an evil bitch deserving of what she got 😐
gee i wonder why 😭😔
#i LIKE that everybody is a different flavor of Fucked Up TM and react to fucked up situations in various fucked up ways#and dont even get me started on the way vi and louis are basically equal opposites coming at the same arc from polar ends#but people will still find a way to hate one and love the other MAKE IT MAKE SENSE#i can understand maybe not liking them Equally but to LOVE one and hate the other??? esp when they love each other so much??#louis winning the character poll that vi lost to ben on in round 2 💀 yall are REALLY not paying attention to her huh. the dichotomy..#vi deserves better than this 😔 girl get behind me. all twdg women get behind me. i'll defend your right to fuck up queens#twdg#replies with lexi#bourbonificould

My vision for endgame Data/Julian which has consumed me ever since I watched Picard 😅
1.DS9
A few months after the Dominion war, the Enterprise docks at DS9 for a short while allowing Data to meet his long-time pen-friend, Julian, again. Julian's not doing well, but since he seems to enjoy Data's company, Data decides to take a couple more weeks of leave to spend some more time with his friend.
However, Julian starts becoming more and more withdrawn and anxious, and after an incident one evening where he becomes agitated to the point of storming out, Data reaches out to Deanna to see if she can give him any insight into his friend's behaviour. She has some ideas, but also suggests that Data ask Keiko, and after talking with the O'Briens, Data believes he understands what's wrong.
When he asks Julian if he's correct in thinking that his impending departure is what's upsetting the doctor, Julian's surprise at the question is enough that he answers truthfully - yes. To Data, the solution is obvious: if Julian is distressed by the idea of someone else leaving him, then Data will not leave. (Julian begs him not to make promises he cannot keep, and has a minor breakdown when he realises that Data is deadly serious.)
After a lot of conversation, some favour-cashing, and the fortunate coincidence that one of Beverly's doctors was beginning to look for a promotion to CMO, Julian ends up transferred to the Enterprise: technically a demotion, but after so long having so much on his shoulders, it's actually a relief.
2. Enterprise
While on Enterprise, Data and Julian get closer and closer. Their relationship brings some difficulties when it becomes public, though: some see the fact Julian's dating an android as proof that he's not really human; others wonder how Data's affection can be real, and feel that if he were as human as he wants to be, then he wouldn't be dating an augment. Julian's parents definitely berate him for wasting all the gifts they gave him by marrying an android - if only he'd talked to them before the wedding, they could have adbised him against it! - making him a zillion times more grateful Data talked him out of inviting them every time he started to feel guilty about it.
But that's by the by. They're together, happily married, endgame Julian/Data achieved, right?
3. ...
Wrong. I hate Nemesis, but imagine Julian following Data down before he throws himself into space, knowing he could probably stop Data from doing this if he asks. Data saying, "I know I promised never to leave you," and Julian shaking his head and barely being able to choke out the words "It's okay," and then Data's gone.
And Geordi's trying to reassure Julian (Geordi's trying to convince himself...) that Data will be alright, he's got the emergency tranport unit, and they get back to the bridge, and Picard transports in, and Data's still on the ship that's blowing up, and Deanna's asking what happened and Julian's sliding down against a wall, horarsely whispering "I let him go..."
4. Picard: s1
20 years later... I haven't quite decided when I want Julian to appear, because the idea of Julian fighting for android rights is everything to me, but also I kind of like the premise of changing as little as possible in canon...
(Maybe Julian had tried to be part of the movement for android rights, bu the media had really latched onto his augment status and used it as another reason to discredit the movement, and so he'd withdrawn from it, as it seemed his presence was doing more harm than good….)
So the Picard crew all return to the Riker-Troi household after the final showdown and Deanna welcomes them in with a "Guess who we finally managed to get in contact with" and bring them into the lounge where Julian' anxiously waiting.
And of course the initial introduction is awkward and Julian's talking a million words a minute until Will pokes him and then over the next few days he's trying to keep his distance so that Soji doesn't feel that she needs to let him into her life...
And meanwhile Soji is still, you know, coping with ALL the feelings and trauma that the last - what, week? - have given her and so she has no idea what to do with this man, who was apparently her father's husband, especially as she has no clue how he feels about the whole suddenly-having-an-android-stepdaughter thing.
But eventually they do manage to have a conversation (/are forced to talk it out) and they get on so well and Soji realises how much Julian genuinely wants to get to know her for her sake and while Julian's terrified at the prospect of having a daughter, he's also delighted (and Will and Deanna make them both stick around for a whole while, 1. because they do enjoy having them both around, 2. because Kestra adores Soji, and the two are pretty good for each other, and 3. because, while they have kept in contact with Julian over the years, they also know how long he's been on his own for, and they want to make sure he's got a solid base and people to lean on. As much as Julian wants to be a good father, Soji deserves more than one traumatised, lonely man doing a best that would quite possibly not be good enough...)
5. Picard: s3
Julian and Soji are visiting Geordi at the museum when the Picard crew come along, and are swept into the action...
Julian learning that Data's alive - kind of... Julian tenderly kissing Data before they take down the partition, telling him he has to win so he can meet their daughter... The two of them barely having time to reunite before having to rush off to their respective duties in saving the ship...
(I have VISIONS of Soji and Julian working desperately together to find a cure for the transporter virus, while Julian's augment physiology has done something weird to make it that he's turning, but very, very slowly. Julian making sure that Soji is armed, and making her promise to shoot him if he turns too quickly. Soji telling him he has to keep fighting it and refusing to think about what it might come to. Julian realising he's about to lose control and getting Soji to restrain him. Soji despairing that she won't be able to find a cure by herself - she's not a doctor doctor like he is - and Julian reassuring her that he believes in her, she just needs to do her best... but most importantly, if she doesn't find it, it's alright, it's not her fault, and he loves her. Resistance is futile. A phaser shot.)
And afterwards, when Soji's found the cure and it's been distributed, Julian wakes up to find Data sitting next to him and Soji hovering nearby. He tries to scramble up and leave to help the rest of the crew, but Soji informs him that just as he took longer to turn, he took longer to get better, and he's the last one to wake up from it. And then she makes to leave, to give the two of them some time alone, and Julian tells her that's nonsense, she needs to meet Data, and Soji says that it's fine, they've been talking while he was asleep, and Julian replies that now he feels left out, so she definitely can't leave, come here, sit by me, I'm not letting either of you out of my sight.
