Hair Headcanons for the Feanorians:

Maedhros: Got Nerdanel's red hair, but filtered through Finwean Hair Magic™️, so instead of looking like normal red hair it looks like flickering flames, with deeper red tones and golden orange highlights, especially under Laurelin. After Angband, the gray streaks in his hair add the illusion of smoke. On the battlefield of Beleriand, he wears his fiery hair long and loose, almost an invitation to try and grab it. Taking that invitation is usually the last mistake his enemies ever make.

Maglor: Has dark, wavy hair with iridescent blue tones inherited from Feanor. Sometimes he puts some blue sparkle in it to really enhance the effect. It's always perfectly wavy and bouncy, and often tied into complicated up-dos for his appearances in Valinorean theaters and concert halls. His hair remains suspiciously luscious and styled even after thousands of years of being a beach hermit. His clothes are tattered, his skin is dirty, his eyes are bloodshot, but somehow, even the driftwood in his hair looks fresh and artistic.

Celegorm: He inherited his albinism from Miriel, and like her, has very light blonde/white hair. But because of the Finwean Hair Magic™️ his light hair actually has opalescent tones– light blues, greens, pinks, and oranges can all be seen in it from different angles. This is part of why he's called "the fair," his hair is light, but it's also as fair and beautiful as a polished opal.

Caranthir: Dark, relatively straight hair, with iridescent purple tones inherited from Feanor. A tangle has never been spotted in it, and he often keeps it up to avoid even the slightest chance of it getting dirty. He particularly appreciates the purple undertones in Beleriand, where purple dye is associated with luxury– it makes him look even richer than he already is. (tax fraud pays very, very well)

Curufin: Has hair very much like Feanor's, but his undertones are mostly on the green/teal side. Like Feanor, his hair doesn't really burn, even when it ends up in the forge fires, and as a result, he actually invents a kind of prototype curling iron and uses it to style his hair, since the heat doesn't damage it. He eventually abandons the curling iron, only for a young Celebrimbor to find it a few centuries later.

Amras: He's the darker haired one of the twins, and his hair is more reddish-brown than properly red. It's very shiny, and curly, and has very deep, rich colors. After Losgar, the ends of it always look dark and scorched.

Amrod: He's the lighter haired one of the twins, with hair that's more orange. It's bushy, shiny, and only Finwean Hair Magic™️ keeps it from being an absolute nightmare to brush. After he almost burns at Losgar, it becomes significantly darker, and loses some of its shine. Amrod always wore his hair long in Valinor, but typically wears it pretty short in Beleriand.

the roomies!!! i originally designed this ososan oc trio in full about a year ago to write on an rp blog. it's not really active rn, but i still want to talk and post about 'em, so here they are! just basic rundowns, but i'd be curious to hear which one (if any) is your fav of the three (feel free to leave it in the tags?? if u want!)

anzu:

i wanted to use orange as a character colour bc it's one that wasn't already used in the matsu rainbow, and i had a concept of a gyaru character named anzu kicking around in my head for a long time as well, so here we are. miwa from the mixer ep inspired the eyeshadow (orange rather than miwa's blue obv, to keep with her colour theme) and delinquent totoko's design inspired her ombre dyejob! i went with a blonde-to-orange look as a nod to anzu's namesake fruit (apricot).

the strands framing her face are split into 3 sections at the end (2/3 are grouped together and 1/3 flips in the other direction) which is a little nod to her being one of 3 siblings (eldest), as well as the "三" character used in her surname (mikado) meaning 3. the rest of her hairstyle is just because i thought it looked cute, though.

ososan's style is more simplified, but i wanted to convey makeup that was a little bold, but cute (long false lashes, eyeshadow, & and a soft pink or nude glossy lip). clothing-wise, she mixes and matches a few different substyles (agejo and onee are prominent, with some ane, tsuyome, and general old school gal influences as well?), with a particular fondness for animal prints, esp. tiger print. (that said, orange tiger print doesn't seem all that common in gyaru clothes, so in-universe i like to think that the top pictured above was originally a black-and-white zebra(?) stripe print she thrifted and dyed at home--close enough!)

her nails day to day are usually medium length since she has a lot of hobbies that involve her hands and anything longer makes those things a bit more cumbersome. sometimes they're decoden/bedazzled, sometimes they're just painted a cute colour/pattern, depends on the day! and i think she opts for press-ons over extensions for longer nails, since it's cheaper.

ran:

i'm just a bitch who loves purple, that's the reason for this one. i think the hime cut with shorter bangs is nice because you can showcase the eyebrows (i think eyebrows can really elevate a character design so i gave all 3 their own brow shape) without worrying about the lines for the eyebrows and bangs intersecting in an annoying way when you draw it. i like shorter, slightly sharp eyebrows like these because they're easy to draw, lol. i think they're usually furrowed like she's displeased with something, but that may just be her resting face. i also thought this blunter, sharper-looking cut (bold, standoffish) was a fun contrast to anzu's flippy half-updo (bright, bouncy) and yuzu's short, wavy hair (languid, relaxed).

5 piercings on each ear (2 spiked helix & 3 lobe) = 5 siblings including ran (4 older brothers). the other reason for this number of piercings was that her namesake flower (orchid) had--i thought--5 petals, but as it turns out i'm a fool, it's actually 3 petals (including the lip) and 3 sepals??? ah, well.

clothing-wise, influences from various punk/vkei styles alongside some rokku gyaru. (maybe anzu introduced her to this one?) this brash style is the total inverse of how she was expected to dress growing up. (when she and anzu first met, she was an OL with no piercings, undyed hair, and positively miserable, but that was a number of years ago now.) i'm really not reinventing the wheel with "small and angry", but y'know, we have fun here.

yuzu:

is teal distinct enough from blue to count as its own colour? i think so. for yuzu, i really loved the concept of a deadpan-looking character who is very much not the straightman, who in fact wants very badly to be the funnyman 99% of the time. that kind of straight-faced but silly comedic character is always really fun to me.

half-lidded/heavy-lidded eyes paired with thick brows are always a winner to me fsr, and i wanted to give her a more "handsome" looking face with a bit more of a defined jaw than you typically see on women in ososan. as a treat. i wanted her to look a bit like a mysterious prettyboy, but she's not actually mysterious, she's just a space cadet. (and very straightforward about her thoughts and feelings, saying them with little fuss or thought.) expectation vs reality, people deciding what you're like based on their own perception vs what you're actually like, etc. etc.

i don't have anything deep to say about her hairstyle, but maybe that's how yuzu would like it, what you see is what you get. (again, eyebrows vs hair... let that eyebrow scar that i gave her for no reason shine.) as for clothing, she prefers things that are easy to move around in, so her style is the most "matsuno"-like (t-shirts, hoodies, basketball shorts, sweats, etc.). in particular, she likes shirts with phrases, usually in english, that are funny or almost make sense but not quite ("for background visual gags" and "for the english speakers in the audience").

8x03 predictions

So... yeah, kid is landing that plane, and I'm very happy about it.

Wasn't trying to jinx it when I made that post a few hours ago about the jump seat plugging that hole in the cockpit. I was about to write how disastrous it would be if the jump seat flies off, taking more chunks of the fuselage/wiring with it and sending more debris towards to cabin and potentially the engines.

Apparently, it will indeed fly off in 8x03, and the result is catastrophic. So they will lose the ability to turn, it can be due to all sorts of reasons. I can see the screens still lit up, so probably not a total electrical failure. It can be a dual engine failure, and they can't make drastic turns and risk losing precious airspeed and altitude, but I think I can still hear the engine in the sneak peek? The number one culprit of total inability to make flight control inputs in an airliner is the total loss of hydraulic systems (all 3). I can see maybe debris damaging the hydraulic lines but neither Jem nor Athena have the knowledge to stop the hydraulic leak before it's too late?

Anyway, the result is still the same, they can't turn. Flying/gliding due north is their only option.

Obviously, there's no ocean north of Los Angeles, but also you don't want to ditch in water unless you absolutely have no other choice. Water is incompressible, and the ocean is wavy. If you hit a wall of wave while ditching the plane, it's exactly like hitting a brick wall, and the plane will break apart.

TW: plane crash

An open field or a multi-lane highway is their best option.

If they've indeed lost all hydraulics, braking will obviously be an issue too, since they'll also lose reverse thrust and spoilers.

You know what? There was a case of an airliner (DC-9) making an emergency landing on a rural highway, Southern Airways Flight 242 in 1977. The touchdown itself was pretty successful, just a bit bouncy, but its left wing unfortunately hit a roadside gas station during the rollout, so it triggered an explosion, swerved to the left and ended up crashing. If that plane could land firmly on the ground on a narrow road back in the 70s, Athena's plane can land on a wide city highway too. It won't be pleasant or risk-free, but at least it's not a death sentence.

As for Tommy's involvement in this opening disaster, I've said it many times, but I'll say it again: I don't think it makes sense narratively for him to play hero and land the plane. Real life constraints (money) also limit him from being in a helicopter on screen. The only way he'll be seen in 8x03 is working on the ground, helping with the rescue. Any other way he'll just be mentioned at best. I pray that he'll be there running towards Buck all worried because the plane barely misses the 119 truck.

You're asking what's with the 217 truck if he's not in 8x03? Well, obviously the show won't get a new truck with a new station number for nothing, so maybe Tommy and the 217 are planned to be heavily featured in future episodes?

Oh, let's not forget Dennis Jenkins, I think he's likely to be in danger.

This is classic famous last words. Athena will have to take on the burden just in time before Jenkins takes his last breath.

If he's not dying, then there'll still be drama related to him. Those dirty cops are looking for him and their plane is currently all over the news. Athena will need to find a way to sneak him out to safety.

The pettiest of complaints:

I saw a woman today with the most beautiful dark curls and once again felt overwhelmed by Hair Envy. My father has curly black hair. My bio father had very curly near-black hair for decades. My mother has extremely straight but also extremely dark hair that is very slowly silvering in a really awesome way.

I have dark hair but not very dark—just a sort of deep brown that is very definitely not going to be confused for black hair ever, much less become black hair. It's not glossy and smooth like my mother's (mine is more unruly and fluffy, I guess?? not really wavy except in California for some reason, but not 100% straight) and it's not curly and bouncy like either of my fathers'.

I've always wanted either really really dark hair, ideally curly, or really rich reddish-brown hair, and mine is neither. It's not light or dark enough or straight or curly enough to be striking either way. And of course I could solve this with the magic of dye, but neither color looks good on me because I look like a vampire with black hair and I look sort of greenish with red hair. Oh and my mother has naturally green eyes and my father has deep brown eyes and my bio father has bright blue eyes, and all of these are much more vivid than mine, which are pretty much iron-grey with some yellowy flecks.

I did get the solace of reading LOTR as a high school kid who thought deep brown hair + grey eyes was the most boring conceivable combination and discovered that one of my favorite authors clearly thought dark hair+grey eyes was awesome and consistently depicted it as the Coolest Thing Ever. And I was really excited when I discovered that my immigrant great-grandfather is listed with brown hair and grey eyes on his WWI draft registration form. But ultimately I'm being oppressed by genetics :(

I enjoyed a lot of things with her look such as the fur coat, heels, her heart shaped beauty mark, the black & white with the pinks, tattoo, etc.!!!! It’s def very cute and fitting for a pop star ⭐️💖

Instead of the X’s & O’s, I went more for the heart motif, especially with broken hearts to show how shes still hurt by how things ended with her and Blitz💔❤️ added that for her tail, clean line across the heart marks as to keep it similar but still different from my Blitz’s tail that’s more of a broken heart💔 I can TOTALLY see her sing “How To Be a Heartbreaker” by Marina & the Diamonds 💎

Instead of the dress, put her in a bodysuit with sparkly mesh!✨ as I’ve seen many pop stars in that kind of outfit!!!!

Turned her stiletto boots into heeled platforms ✨⭐️🌟 Don’t get me wrong, the OG’s are cute but I think Platforms are also pretty awesome and also fit the POP star aesthatic🎤🌟

Got rid of the gloves and gave her long black & white nails with rings💅 💍

pushed the asymmetry colors more with the coat, boots and even makeup! I love asymmetry aesthetic!

Made her fur coat black and white instead of pink to keep it from blending into her hair and to go with the outfit’s asymmetry.

Made her hair more bouncy and wavy and put it up in a high ponytail like it was in Ozzie’s!

Instead of an X, added a slash mark over her tattoo and made the I’s dot a heart❤️

Added more gold with rings for her hands, horns, tail aswell as piercings for her ears 👂. Show off some pop star bling 💍🌟✨

She’s also wearing a gold coloured heart half necklace that’s actually a gift she got from Blitz back when they were still together. She says she only keeps it because it matches her aesthetic….💔

Gave her ears as it’s been shown other Succubus having them and even added a nose, to show how Succubus share more human characteristics compared to imps and other Hellborns, hence how they’re able to disguise themselves so easily. I also added more structure for her cheeks & chin, making it more heart curved💖

Made her eyes light pink with darker pink lining, similar to Lilith’s eyes 👀.

Made her wings a bit bigger, more traditional style and added heart like curves❤️

Pointed her horns to be more heart shaped with heart tips!💖

Based on my discussion with @fishfrypi about Template's hair....... He was the one to first bring up Cornrows and I fell in love guh...... Template's whole deal is that he tries way too hard to NOT be like Error so I think while Error would have wild and crazy afro-ish/dreads maybe (undecided) (hobo core) Template would have this to keep his hair somewhat contained.... (I like to imagine especially whenever Errors get mad/emotionally strong their hair puffs up like static electricity..... This is also a way for Template to keep his hair tucked down LMAO)

Yeagh guh..... I think he would wear out a lot of wigs because of this and draw on eyebrows and such. He's never wearing the same wig two days in a row and is always experimenting..... Little creature. They're my favourite.

I think he would wear all kinds of wigs!!! Bright & Bold vs Normal and inconspicuous... depends on how he's feeling!!! Hair is very much an expression of oneself, and Ink has some issues with that I think..... He's a bit disconnected from reality in a way, literally viewing everyone around him as "fictional characters." (I am NOT letting people forget this factoid it's literally my favourite thing about him. I love you Ink)

I think he changes a lot about himself depending on who he's talking to, minus possibly Error who he goes and harasses with all of his weirdness LMAO. And I think the wigs are a way of representing that almost!!! He's an ever changing ball of goo.

Also. The reason why Alopecia Universalis and not just general baldness.... His eyebrows. No hair. He has to draw them on. Eyebrows are probably the main visual way we communicate emotions. Ink has emotion issues. Yeah. I want to kill him too.

DREAMTALE TWINS

Yeah this is going in no particular order just how they pop up in my mind. Also lumping these two together for reasons that shall be explored in a minute.....

DREAM & SWAN

So yeah uh blatantly stealing the hair apple magic thing from This Post. Because it's a cool concept!!!!!!!!! What the hell!!!!!!!!!! They're my favourites!!!!!!!!

So I think Dream and Swan's hair would look very similar.... With possibly streaks of golden blonde/black respectively. Maybe if you were to really, really compare Swan's hair would be a bit more straight and Dream's more bouncy/curly. (I know I've drawn Swan with total pitch black hair before. But. That was then.... This is the Future....)

And length is where I stumble a bit again!!!!! Because I am. Quite literally obsessed with the idea of Positivity representing stasis/tranquility vs Negativity representing momentum/drive towards change (Both of which are important for a healthy individual!!! I think I should say this.)

However I really really want Swan to have long hair vs Dream having shorter hair. Remnants from their upbringing maybe?

But for Swan is seems less practical to be running around with a whole set of hair... I imagine it would be especially easy for Swad to swoop in and nap him by it, which makes even less sense for him to have it around.... guh

When I do draw him with longer hair I love to image he plats it like so. Keeps it all tucked away under his hood so no Bird man can come in and yoink him away (and leave an obvious patch of burnt hair where he touched it LMAO)

Dream having shorter hair at least makes a little sense in my view.... He keeps it short because its what he's used to... But I also really love the idea of him growing it longer in remembrance of Nightmare and their shared history. He's definitely not as crazy as Swad is about living Dreamtale again! And knows logically that he would never want to subject Night to the abuse that went on behind the scenes..... But he would still like to have his brother back to reconnect and to try and make up for all of it.

Probably something like this?? But more messy?????? Dream to me would seem like a very clean guy but actually is very disorganised and messy. He would roll around in dirt for fun if he could.

So I'm very stuck on their length..... Need to think about it some more. As for facial hair, I do like to think of the twins as generally clean shaven? Not that they shave per say but just don't grow facial hair LOL..... I am definitely not opposed to bearded twins though, I just need to see a beard design I actually like for them before I go fluffing them up HEHAHA.

Hmmm now that I'm actually seeing the hair styles I can actually see Swan wearing the short hair vs Dream with the long...... Maybe I just needed an image guh HEHEHEHE

Swad..... My beloved...... My precious..... YOU'RE MY FAVOURITE did you know.

Swad hair I imagine is long as...... However in contrast to Dream's brown-golden hair it's just straight up pure blonde.... Glowing a little, too!!! Hell, I imagine it even floats a little around his shoulders like an aura, or halo of some kind.... ethereal LMAO (I could imagine him maybe with a few brown tips like his original hair colour, but they'd be very unnoticeable..... Maybe when the hair falls out it turns back into it's original colour gehehe)

This is where the twins' hair texture comes in a bit. Because I imagine apple transformative character design magic not just altering the hair colour, but also texture.... Where his hair was once maybe wavy, it's now fully curly.

I also like to imagine his hair is very very frizzy and heat damaged due to his general core temperature being off the charts.... It all curls around him, framing his face (egotist i hate him)

I don't view Swad as somebody who takes care of himself very well. He cares about his appearance, sure, but when actually practicing self care, he's kinda actually the worst.... HEHAHA. He lets his hair grow all long but that's okay because it all floats around him anyway. He doesn't wash it, but that's okay too because any bugs that try to inhabit his scalp instantly combust upon entering a 1m radius HEHAHA. I would be a little worried about sebum, but it's hard to tell.......

Reddit says not to try and evaporate the oils but only because it'll cause heat damage to your hair and skin.... Which wouldn't affect Sol in the first place HEHAHA (hottie!!) So it's hard to say really. Even if his hair was really oily I don't think it would be that noticeable, his hair already shines with or without oil HEHEHE.

NIGHTMARE

Opposite of Swad time baby...... Where the twins' hair was kinda wavy, Swad's is more curly, Nightmare is dead straight..... Like a cloak.

I don't think it even behaves like hair anymore really. You could separate it, but it acts more like a cloak or window blind than actual hair. It sticks all together because of the slime.... Slimey man... His hair is literally "depressed" and flat lol

Like these two images, but DEFINITELY not as shiny...... It's very dull/matte, could definitely camouflage into the darkness/shadows if you didn't know what to expect. As dark and black as you can get with hair.

It's always Dreamtale where I get stuck on long vs short..... On one hand I think long would come a lot more naturally to Nightmare's whole design.... It makes him look less humanoid almost, hiding his form... On the other though, character-wise I could see him cutting it shorter.

I always thought of Nightmare Dreamtale to be a lot more.... royalty oriented than the others. Swad perceives himself as a God, sure, but Nightmare I think need to do little things to make himself feel better/"prove" he is in control of his life.... Him actually cutting it shorter in contrast to how he had his hair longer when he was younger (more weak and pathetic)..... I think it would be neat!!!! But sigh. ilu nightmare

Hi my name is Yoshikage Kira and I have short blond hair with wavy stylish bangs that I keep pushed back except one bouncy strand and a lot of people tell me I look like David Bowie (AN: if u don't know who he is get da hell out of here!). I'm not related to David Bowie but I wish I was because he's a major fucking hottie. I'm a serial killer but my life is quiet and peaceful. I have pale skin. I'm also an office worker, and I work at Kame Yu in Morioh where I’m a salesman (I'm thirty three). I'm a stand user that wants to blend in (in case you couldn't tell) and I wear mostly stylish suits. I love wearing cat motif suits and they match my stand Killer Queen. For example today I was wearing a periwinkle suit with a cat skull tie, green and white striped button up shirt, and brown shoes. I had gotten eight hours of sleep and I was well rested. I was walking in the park. It was very sunny and the sky was yellow, which I was very happy about. A lot of students from the school stared at me. I blew them up with Killer Queen.

listening to 'humanz' again and it's kind of crazy how many fans in the youtube comments had a lot of its themes fly right over their head. fans who have a better grasp on the lore can help me here.

but for example, songs like 'halfway to the halfway house' - i can't be the only who thinks the songs sounds...ghostly? spectral? like it's haunted? the way peven's vocal seem to float and the instrumentation is all...bouncy and wavy? it makes me think of this gif from fantasia:

there has always have been themes of ghosts, demons and possession in gorillaz because of murdoc. 'rise of the ogre' and all that. but on humanz there was (at least to me) that aside the political statements and space themes on the album, the project also seemed to be revolving around those ideas again. 'saturn barz' video has them walking into a haunted house and experiencing an entity (who manifests as popcaan) and then you get songs like 'charger' where 'something' (grace jones) takes a hold of them. 'let me out' calling throughout the police brutality message with mavis staples and pusha t. and 'out of body' with kilo kish and zebra katz. 'i'm alive, i'm alive'.

am i the only one who sees this thread? it also explains why certain songs sound the way they do. so when i see people say it sounds messy, or didn't make sense, i'm just like - i think it does.

Headliners: 01 - Live at the Gallery by Tall Paul 2000 Progressive House / Trance / Progressive Trance / House

Ugh. I really hate to besmirch the often excellent and eclectic DJ Tall Paul here, but this man was simply *not* bringing it for this Ministry of Sound double-disc back in 2000. What we have here to kick off this ultimately fleeting Headliners series is an unfortunately jumbled up and incoherent mess of house and trance tunes from the turn of the millennium, some of which are quite good, but most of which are quite bad 😑.

And that, more or less, really just seems to sum up Ministry of Sound in a nutshell; some bangers to be sure, but also, a lot of these hulking superclub-type entities that operate branches in multiple cities—while also having their very own record labels too—seem to have this inevitable penchant for pushing out a whole torrent of mind-numbingly tacky crap, don't they? 🤷‍♂️

*sigh*

Anyway, with all that in mind, I really did enjoy certain parts of both of these discs. Paul chooses to close out each set with conventionally great trance runs, with the finale on disc 2, Rob Searle's remix of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "The Power of Love," probably being the best of the bunch. But the paths that he takes to get to both of these runs are largely windingly unentertaining, with yawn-inducing turn-of-the-millennium progressive house marring disc 1, and then a spat of mindlessly bouncy Euro gunk in the middle of disc 2. And to jam all these different types of dance music in here like this just feels so forced and awkward in the first place, resulting in a classic case of failing to please anyone by trying to please everyone 👎.

But actually, the variety was totally winning me over in the beginning, mainly because Paul was keeping steady and connecting good tunes together from different genres that you wouldn't be likely to hear in succession otherwise. He opens up the first disc with a satisfyingly quirky bit of quiet, eerie, and jazzy deep techno from the great Laurent Garnier, then follows it up with a pulsating and wavy piece of breakbeat-infused trance from Germany's Nalin + Kane, and then gets into a literally bubbling and locked-in house groove with UK duo Tin Tin Out. But after that, he departs from this fun grab-bag, genre-hopping concept, and just proceeds to dig himself into a pit mainly comprised of progressive house emptiness, until he finally decides to climb his way out and finish up the first set with some quality trance tunes 🫤.

So, there's definitely some great y2k-era dance music on here—and the totally memed-to-a-bloody-pulp Darude's "Sandstorm" too!—but really not worth the listen, overall. A genuine miss from the legendary and beloved Tall Paul 😔.

You know, I always wondered how you managed to come up with the design for Lauren. Mind telling me?🥹👉👈

...... Okay so this one had slipped my attention and been left to rot in my inbox when it's an actually super cool question, my brain is some kind of mouldy rock. Can't even call this belated anymore, but in case you're still at least a little interested in it, here it goes.

One, generally speaking : define the key elements of the character you want to create a design for.

For Lauren, she's a Strex corp executive. She presents a friendly, cheerful, happy go lucky front, but she's actually authoritative. As every Desert Bluffs citizens, she advertises a tolerant, loving and kind attitude towards people, but her real values are different ; she enforces uniformity and displays very conservative values (hard work, strict observance of rules and religion and the likes). She's one of the top followers of the Smiling God cult.

It gives you something to elaborate on and makes the process much, much easier.

Body shape

She's a Strex big shot, so it seemed logical to give her a 'perfect' body, with an hourglass figure and long legs, and a youthful appearence. Desert Bluffs citizens claim to promote diversity, but since they strive towards conformity and perfection, they probably love their flaws insofar as they don't actually have any. Since Kevin offered to 'fix' Janice, I'm pretty sure they can fix about anything they deem to be wrong. Which would be anything short of perfection. I made her white cause she definitely has this rich white picket fences neighborhood HOA president vibe.

Face and hair

To reflect her friendly front, I gave a round, cute face with a small button nose and a small heart shaped mouth, as well as curved round eyebrows. I've seen quite a few bob haired Lauren, but I personally settled on bouncy hair to give her a more dynamic look (and because I love drawing wavy, bouncy hair, sue me). It's still always at least partially tied up so it remains professional.

I'll get to the colors later, but reddish brown is close enough to her palette not to stand out too much while still avoiding to make her look washed out. I've seen many blond Laurens, and it can look super nice, but it doesn't work at all for my design. Same for red hair. It's too close to her palette. Blue eyes follow the same logic, and since it's a very small detail that won't stand out too much either way, I picked blue ; it makes it more interesting.

Outfits

There are basically two types of outfits for my Lauren : Strex executive and post Strex. When working for Strex, I usually give her some typical business fits. I gave her pants once as an experiment, but I tend to stick to skirts (pencil skirts most of the time, or below-the-knee skirts for occasions). To soften the look and keep the cheerful front, I either add round elements (a bow, puffed sleeves, buttons), or add the nametag. I love the nametag. It has the first-name-basis, come-talk-to-me, we're-all-equals-here toxic companies vibe. But it looks too busy with the bows, so I drop it when I want to get creative with her fits.

When Strex has been taken over by the angels and she's been kicked out to another dimension entirely, there's no need for the executive outfit anymore. She gets long, more retro dresses, with the occasional flower print. There's usually little to no cleavage, in the same conservative vibe I mentioned earlier. They remain cinched at the waist though. You can be modest, but still show off how much better you are than everyone else.

Those details sort of became a staple, so I thought they deserved a mention. The pointy shoes add a triangular shaped element. They're often associated with cunning and the likes, and red is associated with blood and danger. In this occurence, of course. I know my color theory. Lauren would argue the same. Anyway, back on track. It also has this 'step in the blood of your enemies' vibe. Same goes for the nails. She also has bright red lipstick to enhance the smile and teeth.

The little earrings have been here from the start, and, uh, they're cute. More seriously, they're a 'quirky' cheerful detail, but the smile never reaches the eyes, so they're also supposed to be kinda fake and creepy.

Palette

All sorts of yellows, from bright to pastel. Yellow is a happy color ! All hail yellow ! And white is so pure, my girl would never do anything wrong, she's happy and pious and so well-meaning. The colors looked brighter on my tablet, so if they look dull, picture them like, brighter. Damn displays playing tricks on yours truly.

I don't know if it's just me or if I've seen stuff about it, but I associated Strex with orange, so while her Strex fits either had a lot of orange or orange details, it sort of got out of the picture later on. The blue as well, but it's more of an aesthetic choice. As I've said, red is there to symbolize danger.

And I guess that's about it ? It looks like a lot, but I actually had to deep dive into it to give a detailed explanation. I did most of the thinking subconsciouly when listening to her on the podcast. I also have some Mother Lauren designs, but nothing set in stone (although I noticed that I tend to lean towards square shapes). It's a long enough post though, so I'll keep it at that.

Designing characters is one of my favorite things to do ; so much possibilities to explore, and so many cool fits to make.

i definitely think music is a big inspiration for me; a lot of my artistic work (my poetry, my fmvs, my writing in general) is influenced by the music i listen to. i also tend to get inspired when i'm looking at nature!!!

right now though my current biggest inspiration is cql but i think anybody who doesn't have my vero ficblogging tag blacklisted knows about LMAO

ivy: what are your "tells" for your emotions and moods? how can someone tell you're happy, annoyed, upset, or tired?

ooh okay. i'm generally a very expressive person so it wouldn't be difficult to tell what's what. when i'm happy i do get all smiley and i tend to talk a lot (and at increasing speed) if it's something i'm excited about, i get bouncy, i get hand wavy. when i'm annoyed, i tend to go for the more quiet annoyed so i won't be passive aggressive or anything vocal most likely, but there will be a lot of eye rolling and sighing. when i'm upset usually i'm either on the verge of tears or i'm yelling so that's easy. when i'm tired though is when i usually shut down and go on my phone at a function or something

Voiceplay Visuals: Panic! In Four Minutes - parts 1 and 2

Oh boy oh boy we're getting into the really fun stuff now!

I used to be a fan of Panic! At The Disco (well I still like the music, I just don't like the lead singer anymore), and Voiceplay freaking killed it with this arrangement! But I'm not here to talk about acapella stuff, I'm here to talk about the video/s, which is just as super awesome! (I don't know why it was split into 2 parts, but I guess it works)

We're given a very quick trio of shots to start us off, giving us a bit of immediate story and context

Also, sort of an audio-visual thing, but the way that the music element starts with some of the guys "yelling" after Earl gets duct tape ripped off his mouth is very funny to me

The guys being positioned in a circle, facing outwards like so, is an interesting creative choice, but a little bit frustrating right now because it means I can't get any full group shots of them!

Man Geoff looks so goddamn pretty in this video. I don't know what he or someone else did to his hair for this one but it seems to have just a bit more of a curl/waviness to it and I love it (also the half-open button up shirt with the popped collar really adds to the look as well 👀)

Also one of the better videos for noticing Geoff's eye colour is hazel (sort of green-brown), not just dark brown like how his eyes usually appear

I'm guessing the key thing was inspired by the music video for Say Amen (Saturday Night)?

Obligatory acknowledgement of Layne's little heavy-breathing moment, which is either angry, panicky, or a mix of both, and has definitely found its way into a couple of fanfics.

The slight discourse about race hc’s in the community has made me wanna put all my hc races of my favorite boys and their listeners

Warning!! I am black myself and these are just descriptions of what I see in my head based off of how the voices sound and what other people’s hc have made me see

David is white. He’s born tan though, Him and his dad are both on the darker side of white.

Angel is half white half black. So they’re fairly lightskinned.

Asher might be white and hispanic. I could see him whining “¿Por Que Mamiii?” whe his mom tells him to do something.

Baabe is black. Like big Afro and dark skin black.

Milo is black and Italian (And Irish). Colm is Italian so his skin is fairly light and his hair is really just fluffy and straight. Marie is a cute 5’0 darkskinned mama with 4a hair. So Milo is a good shade darker than caramel macchiato and his hair isn’t super thick, but instead super curly (when it gets wet it turns really straight and slick)

Sweetheart is black and mexican. They’re darker than angel but lighter than Milo. Their hair can get really thick when it’s dry but their curls loosen a lot when their hair is wet.

Sam is around the same shade as david, maybe a little lighter. I think that Sam’s parents were also on the darker side of caucasian and I’m a strong believer that Sam LOOOOVED the sun while he was a human. Being a vampire just turned him pale because of the whole sun thing.

Darlin’ is darkskinned. A good percent of their family from both mom and dad’s side is from Georgia. Big Hair, much like Baaabe’s but down their back.

Gavin is….I cant decide if i want him to be a hot pink-ish guy or if i want him to be a darkskin guy with dreads. (Demons do come in all sorts of colors shapes forms and sizes so it could work either way)

FL is my shade. Just african american. Super curly hair and always keeps their hair in a back puff so it’s out of their face. Around this color

Damien is white and japanese. I just know his skin is flawless. Hair grows ridiculously fast.

Huxley is either Samoan & white or black. Now there’s a few possibilities for Hux…

He has a buzz cut so that when he lays on the ground he can be “Closer to Earth”

If not a buzzer, it’s the most luscious curly/wavy and bouncy hair LITERALLY EVER.

If he’s black, he used to cut his hair off a lot because his hair got annoying to tame but decided to loc it up because he thinks locs are “sick”

Lasko is just white in my head. Brown fluffy hair and freckles white.

Guy is kinda tan white. Not as near as dark as David but a little darker than Lasko. I actually think Guy’s hair is kinda curly (it’s a pain to put that hair net on)

Honey is just white. I would say spicy white but they’re more like “black washed white” like “Grew up in the hood” white.

Blake is super white. Greenish blue eyes, black straight fluffy hair.

Bestie is black. A little heat damage because high school’s beauty standard is destructive, but very curly hair down to their shoulders.

Avior…I wanna say he’s grey. This pretty shade of grey that makes him look a little off white, but his hair and features fit his skin so well. He’s just a glittery guy.

Starlight is African american too. Really just like Bestie but with longer hair.

Vincent is sooooo white. I mean obviously bc of the vampire thing. But no fr he’s basically the color white. Black hair though.

Lovely is ALSO pretty white. Dark brown long straight hair and literally turns THEE color red when you embarrass them.
