Can you give us lore on the different vampire types?

Sure! The main lore dump about them is explained in episode four (I think) of Matador Gothic, with a little more sprinkled throughout the series. Here's a little more information in detail!

Vox Odium: The dominant vampire species. Most vampires with high status are Vox Odium and the human idea of vampires comes from them. They have red eyes, moderately pointed ears, visible fangs, but otherwise have human anatomy and proportions. They have a supernatural ability to cause people to feel anger and hatred, and are more nourished by the blood of people experiencing anger. They can't force you to feel anger, but their psychic power makes them intuitively know exactly what to say to create rage, hatred, distrust, and violent thoughts.

Sombra Deseada (aka Darkly Desired): Physically the weakest vampire type, but still formidable. They rely on infiltration to feed. After undergoing the sanguine dream, they usually undergo physical transformations that highlight their secondary sex characteristics, lean and smooth them out, and make them generally more attractive to humans. They blend in with humans frighteningly well. With no fangs, claws, or pointed ears they look almost human, except for the red eyes they have (though their eyes only appear red when they're blood starved). They can endure far more sunlight than most vampires before it starts to kill them, and can even eat a small amount of human food before their bodies reject it. Lacking fangs, they prefer to use razor sharp, thin knives to cut their victims' veins. They also have psychic powers that allow them to intuitively know just what to say or how to behave to most effectively seduce a human.

Nosferatu (aka Fiera Oscura, Diablos de Garra): Fear vampires. Their anatomy changes depending on how blood thirsty they are, and in some cases at will. A fed and sated Nosferatu looks almost human, but as their hunger grows they become more monstrous an hideous. At the opposite end of their blood-thirst spectrum, they have extremely visible narrow, pointed ears, long sabre-like claws, and fangs so long and sharp that they protrude from their mouths even when they're closed. Their arms lengthen as their anatomy becomes more monstrous, allowing them to run on all fours at terrifying speed. They are typically very tall and physically strong, with their strength rivaled only by one of other vampire species.

Furia Roja (aka Red Furies, Red Nightmares): Pain vampires. No psychic powers but anatomically designed to cause pain. Their nails can transform into venemous serrated claws at will. Their claw venom isn't lethal, but causes mind-breaking pain. They have four fangs instead of two. One set is sharp and tapered to puncture effectively, the other set is serrated to cause maximum pain. Though once rare, they took the place of the Nosferatu in the vampiric ecosytem after the Mother of Sin was bound upon Scythus' death. Will appear in Vox Gothic.

Manananggal (aka Aswang Vampirico): Native to the Philipines and Indonesia, but occasionally seen in Europe and continental Asia. Technically not true vampires, as their transformation doesn't come from venom inscribed with a demon contract, but instead the result of a symbiosis with a creature from the otherworld that resembled a black-feathered chick. They are a vampire-like species of an entirely different class of monster. They have the ability to detach their upper body and sprout wings. Like true vampires they have psychic abilities, but instead of taking information from people's minds, they can distort their senses, creating illusions of time dragging on, making distant sounds seem closer than they are, and even warping vision. Their favored prey is pregnant humans, and the venom found in stingray barbs has a similar effect on them as silver does on true vampires. Will appear in Anselmo's flashback lore.

Would TigerGhost be any different if they were younger? I have a few ideas on this that I might write a short story on, but I want to hear the thoughts of people more familiar with the ship since I just learned about it and am more familiar with Danny Phantom than El Tigre.

Manny and Danny would be inseparable friends and constantly play pranks on each other: Danny scares Manny with ghostly powers and Manny paints FentonWorks bright pink with "la casa del fantasma" written on it.

They would train together and have fun with combinations like the "Ghost Cat Slam" or "la garra del tigre fantasma."

Manny's Spanglish confused Danny all the time. Even Danny would try to learn it for two things (one to know what jokes Manny would play on him and the other to win over Pauline who at the time was crazy about her)

Possible scenario

-What's pendej0?

-"It means 'genius' and "pretty", bro!" (Tucker or Sam would end Manny's "language lessons" for Danny's sake, you get the picture lol).

But beyond the chaos, they would love to showcase their worlds: Danny would take Manny ghost hunting in Amity Park, while Manny would introduce Danny to Miracle City, sharing their wild traditions, costumes and favorite Mexican sweets (Danny his favorite tells me is mazapan and a tamarind but already as an adult he suffered from candy since childhood hahaha). Their bond would become so strong that, even as adults, they would laugh about how their chaotic friendship made them unstoppable.

Also, I'm so curious about your thoughts and story! I would love to read it, I know it will be amazing! The fandom of tigerghost grow!!!!

An introduction to the evil and demonic ghosts of the Twolegplaces

You'll often hear in rasps of one's tongue across their fur of stories pertaining to malicious entities, evil spirits and the likes. But you'll most often hear murmurs and whimpers of what many Twolegplace Cats often refer to as Demonios. But what exactly is a Demonio?

Definition

The spirit of an organism- Usually a cat- that has had its soul transformed via one way or another to appear as a grotesque, usually violent creature that is capable of causing harm to everything around it. They often appear in hallucinations.

A common misconception

Many cats often mistake Demonios with another entity referred to as The Flickering. These entities are also referred to simply as Ghosts or Spirits. Demonios and The Flickering are two separate entities, but are also often connected with one another within folklore and mythology. Fun fact! Some Flickering ghosts also appear as how they died, so for example, you'll see one with their upper and lower body separated due to being struck by a vehicle. (A Flickering ghost portrayed below)

What is the difference between Demonios and The Flickering?

Demonios are spirits that are transformed into vile versions of themselves through one way or another. The Flickering, on the other hand, are ghosts/spirits that are bounded to earth, unable to move on until their unfinished business is fulfilled. These ghosts can be malicious, neutral, or good-natured, as opposed to the Demonio's being only malicious and full of tricks. Some Demonios are also believed to be able to physically manifest themselves into violent animals, such as hawks, falcons, rats, raccoons, badgers, dogs, etc.

Wait, the two are connected?

Yes! It's often believed that these ghosts are vulnerable to transformation, which can be brought on by a couple of things:

Their anger and rage is so powerful that it takes over their spirit, painfully morphing them into a Demonio

An ethereal being of higher power getting a hold of them and transforming them by their own will and hand

Being killed by a Demonio

So you mentioned that they are rumored to be able to manifest themselves into other animals, how can one tell if an animal is a physical manifestation of a Demonio?

Many old stories say to keep an eye and ear out for the following:

Pupils that are able to narrow like a cat's

Any noises that seem like the creature is attempting to mimic noises of a cat

(Limited to mammals) Claws that are long and scraggly, like a cat's nail that hasn't been trimmed. Bloody paws are also said to be a give away due to this

Any facial features that appear more cat-like than usual. Ears in most cases will be more pointed like a cat's. If it is a bird, they will have sprouts of feathers on the sides of their heads that mimic cat ears

Behaviors that you'd see in cats, this includes the way the creature walks or the way it cleans its fur/feathers

Trivia:

While the name translates into "Demon/Devil", Demonios can be classified as general supernatural entities. Although some Demonios are widely classified as being demons

Not all Demonios are deadly, some will simply cause inconveniences, however, the most prevalent and well known ones are always the deadly ones

The term itself is one used mainly by non-clan cats. Many of the Dark Forest evil spirits can still be referred to as a Demonio, however you'll never hear a Clan cat refer to them as that, unless they weren't born into a Clan

The unfortunate truth about the Demonio is that a cat's spirit is still trapped within, facing constant torture and pain that comes with their horrific new form. Some say that for even just a second, you can see the cat underneath their new, terrifying mask, crying out for help.

Marigold (Boton de Oro) - This is my favorite herb. It has wonderful energies of cleansing, love, success, and wealth. It is also useful for divination. Oshun loves this plant.

Rosemary (Romero) - Remembering the Dead and necromancy, love, promoting long relationships, purification, cleansing, uncrossing, and creating bonds.

Prodigiosa (Siempre Viva) - A powerful consecration herb. Brings positive energy, good luck, and long life.

Marshmallow (Malva) - Cleansing, a herb associated with the Dead and ancestors, love rituals, purity.

Basil (Albahaca) - This herb has everything! Money, love, success, potency, cleansing, jinx removal, road opening. Some say that Basil should be used alone or only with Florida Water because it is so powerful.

High John (Juan the Conquistador) - Removes obstacles, draws money, attracts a specific lover, good luck, lifts depression and confusion - therefore can cause it. High John is powerful in black magic.

Licorice Root (Raíz de Regaliz) - I use this root for everything! Sweetening people and love, control or commanding, an herb for cleansing and drawing, protection and shielding, and amplification of power.

Rose (Rosas) - The best! Roses draw everything and are intoxicating. Love is their dominion. But they can be used for any positive ritual.

Devil's Claw (Garra de Diablo) - Prosperity and abundance, increased vitality, binding, banishing, protection from negative energy, purification, invoking demons.

Bay Laurel (Laurel) - Top favorite herb! I use it for breaking hexes and cleansings as well as protection, luck and manifestation. It is a powerful visionary herb.

Cinnamon (Canela) - A versatile herb. I use it in my omeiros, for both of my Orisha mothers. It is widely used for love, money, passion, success, business. I add it to road opening too.

Hyssop (Hisopo) - I have a lot of cleansing herbs! But hyssop takes the cake. Its par excellence. Removes blockages. This herb literally strips everything off of you, good and bad. A sweet herb bath needs to be followed up. Baths utilizing hyssop shouldn't be greater than 8 minutes, can cause headaches for sensitive people.

Solomon's Seal (Sello de Salomón) - Drive away negative vibrations and malicious spirits, summons helpful spirits and elementals, increases wisdom, consecration, and binding oaths - especially with Goetic spirits.

I will admit that October wasn’t as… fun in my original world. I mean, creatures played games and looked for candy, but it’s also when some scarier creatures come out to play.

It might be ghost-like creatures, wolf-like creatures, but the worst were the Garra wardens, incarnations of the harbinger of death.

They are herbivorous, so they probably weren’t looking for you to eat, but what made them “the worst” in my opinion, is the virus that they always carry, which, although it has no name, I called it “Morsitis”

It’s like a cold at first. Coughing, fevers, and a runny nose. It doesn’t seem bad at this stage, but that’s until the internal bleeding starts due to the virus preventing blood clots from forming. If a creature isn’t treated, they can quickly die from the bleeding.

I heard that the virus killed Raven’s father, and I don’t want to be the next victim down the line… though since I’m on earth, I think I should be safe… for now…

Leg rattles in southern African music

Question (@culmaer): I've been slowly making my way through Percival Kirby's book on South African instruments (published in 1934), and I assume the spellings he uses for words from the various 'Khoisan' languages are ad hoc, phonetic transcriptions and not the standardised spellings in use today. part of me was hoping there was maybe a contemporary survey of instruments, or perhaps just easily accessible dictionaries/word-lists I could go through to check the spellings he uses

Kirby mentions ankle rattles made of springbok ears of the "Qung Bushmen" and cites the name from Bleek and Lloyd's Bushman Folk-lore as |keriten. I assume by Qung he means !Kung, but I'm not sure how similar !Kung and |Xam are, or if Kirby is making an attribution error ? nevertheless, are you able to verify that name and spelling ?

then, I'm particularly curious about a springbok horn flute, per Kirby, "used by the Kalahari Bushmen near Haruchas, SWA, [which] they call |garras or |garris" as well as a similar instrument used by the "Berg-Dama" called ǂnunib, although their version apparently stopped the horn with wood to create a more specialised embouchure, which I would love more details on. are these instruments still played ?

!Xun (<!Kung>) and |Xam belong to different language families: !Xun is a Kx’a language spoken along the northwestern Kalahari Basin fringe (northern Namibia, southern Angola, northwestern Botswana). |Xam was Tuu language of the !Ui subbranch which was spoken in the west of South Africa, all the way down to the Cape. |Xam went extinct during the first half of the 20th century, while !Xun is still a vibrant language with multiple dialects. !Xun and |Xam speakers were probably not in contact with each other in historical times, but received both influence from Khoekhoe herders (who speak an unrelated language of the Khoe-Kwadi family).

Kx’a and Tuu are resident language families exclusively spoken by foragers, while Khoe-Kwadi languages were introduced from the east around 2,000 years ago; at present, they are spoken by foragers (“Kalahari Khoe”) and herders (“Khoekhoe” and the extinct Angolan language “Kwadi”).

The ‘leg rattle’ word you cite here seems pretty widespread:

Interestingly, the root *ǀɢani (my reconstruction) is indeed distributed across all three families. The underlying uvular onset (uvularity is still visible in N|uu) is responsible for the sound changes /a/ > /u/ and /n/ > /r/. It is impossible to say which of the three families is the source and I am inclined to believe that this root may be very old and refer to a very widespread cultural practice (i.e., dancing with leg rattles) (this is not to say it is evidence for a “Khoisan” family; just for a very old contact area).

I wonder whether Kirby’s “|garras or |garris” ‘springbok horn flute’ is actually the same root. The word is certainly from Khoekhoe because it has the feminine singular suffix -s. The location where it was recorded, Haruchas, also seems Nama-territory to me, so I strongly doubt this was recorded among “Kalahari Bushmen”. Haacke & Eiseb (2002) have an entry <ǀgȁríb>  ‘quick grass, esp. Cynodon dactylon’, but that does not seem to make a lot of sense here - unless, of course, Kirby got confused and the word he lists actually denotes a grass flute. Damara  ǂnunib appears to be the standard Khoekhoe word for ‘flute, play flute’ (Haacke & Eiseb 2002: 415).

Leg rattles are still very common in many San and San-descendant groups from southern Africa. They are also used by some Bantu groups like the Tswana, probably due to influence from neighboring hunter-gatherers.

In the Botswanan San group I worked with for many years, leg rattles are especially used in ritual performances which are not meant for strangers to witness. However, I have videos from a cultural workshop in which a San group from Zimbabwe performs with leg rattles. I'll share the videos as soon as I am back in office next week.

The Khoekhoe flutes are, to the best of my knowledge, no longer used. I will make a post on that (and the terms associated with the flute ensembles) tomorrow.

In Hollow Knight's 11-hour live, Cellbo talked about how he really wanted to be an asshole character in QSMP.

He also said he would be the prosecutor, a new character, contrary to Pepito in the trial, however as it is Monday he cannot attend.

BUT he will soon do it a very broken-in character.

Therefore, we have three options:

1. He will play a new character linked to the Federation or the Rebels (I believe he considers both to be bad, so being part of them would make the character a villain too).

2. A new character like Ghostbit.

3. When q!Cell finds out about q!Roier's kidnapping, he will finally set the island on FIRE (and I will defend him tooth and claw. My cloth is ready to pass).

NOTE: Pepito is very lucky. If Cellbi were to play this promoter, he would NEVER have that life back because there is no WORLD in which Quackity can beat Cellbo by acting like an asshole. And I'm saying this as someone who has watched him do rp since I was a child. He knows how to manipulate and lock your head. Being the lawyer q!Quackity yet? Wow, the funa that would come from this lol.

I'm not saying Quackity isn't good at rp or wouldn't be a good lawyer. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

I'm saying that Cellbo knows how to play a motherfucker character and even though he loves Pepito's character, he is faithful to his performances and wouldn't let it go. (I still think this judgment is meaningless because Roier was laggy, but whatever)

As coisas começaram a dar errado na vida de Dahlia antes mesmo de seu nascimento. Em uma gravidez indesejada e arriscada, sua mãe fez um acordo com um demônio, ou a coisa mais próxima daquilo possível: prometeu sua criança para Julien Dufour-Lapointe. O erudito conhecido e respeitado por ser o tutor das mais importantes famílias nobres antes que fossem mandadas para a Academia de Artes Mágicas de Hexwood, era também conhecido entre as classes mais baixas pelo seu interesse por crianças changeling e por provê-las com uma infância melhor do que o que era previsto para elas. E a princípio a garota não tinha do que reclamar, com refeições regulares, um lugar quente para dormir e uma mansão para explorar os primeiros anos da sua vida foram tão bons quanto os de qualquer criança nobre.

Aos quatro anos, Senhor Dufour-Lapoite finalmente tomou um interesse pessoal pela criança changeling que havia comprado, por pouco mais que algumas moedas de prata. O mais perto que chegava do mundo externo era o pequeno balcão, em um quartinho isolado nos últimos andares da mansão, lá ela conseguia se esconder e sentir a chuva em sua pele vez ou outra.

Quando completou doze anos, suas perguntas não eram tidas como algo engraçadinho, curiosidades infantis, mas eram olhadas com reprovação e impaciência. Porque não poderia frequentar as aulas como os outros pupilos? As aulas não eram lugar para alguém como ela. A sua tentativa de fuga para o jardim, que fez a corrente elétrica correr por seu corpo e Dahlia finalmente descobriu o que aquele acessório em seu tornozelo fazia.  Ela sabia que era uma questão de tempo até que sua aparência adorável não compensasse mais os problemas de manter uma changeling como um animal de estimação e as maquinações começaram.

Ela tinha uma bolsa pronta com seus itens mais preciosos, e depois de subornar um dos alunos mais velhos com as respostas para um teste, se livrou de sua tornozeleira e fugiu para a noite, sem saber para onde ia, mas com a convicção de que enfrentar os monstros no mundo era mais fácil do que se manter como propriedade de Julien. Sua liberdade foi aterrorizante e curta, logo pega por guardas que a identificaram como uma changeling em idade de alistamento, seus olhos grandes e rosto redondo enganando os guardas que logo a jogaram com outras crianças que seriam mandadas para Wülfhere. Sem saber se as poções que retardavam seu envelhecimento físico haviam sido uma benção ou uma maldição, ela optou pelo silêncio. E em silêncio foi largada no parapeito para lutar por sua própria vida com outras crianças, entrou pelos portões do castelo e foi designada para os escribas. 

Durante os seus seis anos no castelo, desabrochou, criando conexões e desaprendendo várias ideias implantadas pelo homem que a moldou em seus anos formativos, guardava ainda todos os seus conhecimentos, mas desafiava seus valores diariamente, e se dedicava em aprender tudo sobre seus ancestrais e formar suas próprias ideias. Cercada de livros antigos, e decifrando palavras em idiomas perdidos ela sentia que o instituto seria o mais próximo que teria de um lar e estava contente com essa perspectiva.

Na noite do incêndio, Dahlia pensava sobre os textos que trabalhava em traduzir desde que os encontrou perdidos em um canto da biblioteca. Falando sobre o  grande êxodo e continha informações que não apareciam em nenhum dos outros livros que havia consumido até então. Ela trabalhava naquela tradução de forma maníaca, seu instinto a dizia que era importante, e ela nunca questionava seus instintos. E então começou o caos. Os gritos começaram e, ao olhar por sua janela, viu as colunas de fumaça saindo pelas janelas e as chamas devastando tudo que tocavam. A torre onde mantinha seus trabalhos acabava de ser atingida por fogo e ela não pensou duas vezes antes de juntar seus pertences e correr em direção ao fogo. Não podia deixar seu trabalho ser destruído. 

A fumaça ardia seus olhos, o fogo queimava sua pele e seus cabelos, mas ela estava determinada. Uma explosão a fez perder o equilíbrio, batendo contra a parede e seus ouvidos apitavam. Juntando cada rolo de texto que acumulara ao longo dos anos em Wulfhere, Dahlia perdeu a consciência, com um sorriso leve no rosto, tranquilidade tomando seu espírito, em saber que ao menos estaria para sempre junto com seus bens mais preciosos. E suas cinzas estariam eternamente com as de seus queridos livros.

Quando acordou estava na ala de enfermagem criada para atender as vítimas do incêndio. Seu lado esquerdo estava em absoluto silêncio, o que parecia positivo, pois abafava os gritos de sofrimento das outras vítimas, sua própria pele estava tensa nos lugares que o fogo havia tocado. Mas ela não encontrou forças para reclamar do desconforto das queimaduras, não quando seus olhos encontraram os de Sebastian, os flashes de memórias enevoadas apareceram, ele a arrancando das chamas. Dahlia quase desejava ter ficado entre as chamas, a morte parecia mais gentil do que quer que o homem havia planejado para o futuro dela, se seus olhos escuros eram qualquer indicativo. Fechou seus olhos novamente, rezando para deuses que ela não acreditava, pedindo para que colocassem ao menos um pouco de misericórdia no coração de Sebastian antes que ele finalizasse o trabalho que o incêndio havia começado.

𝔦. Desde o incêndio ela não consegue escutar nada do lado esquerdo por causa de uma explosão enquanto ela tentava salvar seus pergaminhos.

𝔦𝔦. Dahlia mantêm diários desde que aprendeu a escrever. Eles foram uma das poucas coisas que levou consigo para Wulfhere quando escapou da casa onde foi criada. Ela escreve neles todos os dias, mesmo que só um pequeno parágrafo sobre o tempo.

𝔦𝔦𝔦. Outro token de sua antiga vida como animal de estimação do Sr. Dufour-Lapointe é uma tiara em ouro com um padrão intrincado de folhas e flores douradas. Ela esconde a jóia de todos por vergonha de guardar um pouco de carinho por sua vida passada.

𝔳.  Ser criada isolada e sozinha fez com que fosse capaz de entreter sua mente ativa com muito pouco, e é sempre possível vê-la completamente imersa em conversas consigo mesma, inclusive suas conversas com outras pessoas tendem a ser um longo monólogo sem qualquer fio condutor de assunto, onde ela simplesmente fala sobre qualquer coisa que chame a sua atenção, até que a outra pessoa desista e a abandone com seus pensamentos (ela geralmente não nota quando é deixada falando sozinha).
