the fact that trump is somehow still up for re-election and everyone is acting like he is a normal candidate and he's out here spouting like 1800s levels of racism and has a dozen rape allegations is crazy. stupid ass country.

Sanctuary, One of the Best Green Arrow stories ever
Sanctuary(Detective Comics #551-552)
Just coming of a disappointment that Billie Jean wouldn't show up again, a banger story came. And it just gets better as you go on.
So Dinah and Ollie were hanging out in a diner. Then:
Tumblr media
Ollie doesn't give a shit, punches the fucking cop.
I'll mention something here, that will turn out to be irrelevant later on. Ollie only stood up to protect the legal immigrant here. Just because it's something that would get slightly in people's heads, the idea of the hero limiting themselves to the law, but this is Green Arrow, wait for it.
The illegal ones were arrested. The kid that Ollie protected, Guillermo, tells him how although he's legal, his brother is illegal.
Ollie then goes out to visit Guillermo's brother, Francisco who's hiding in a church with other illegal immigrants, to help him somehow.
The INS barges in the church and arrests everyone, the immigrants, Ollie and the priest. All of them are taken to the detention center.
The warden(I guess) says a bunch of nonsense and Ollie shows his disdain for the law.
Tumblr media
Dinah shows up in the detention center as Ollie's lawyer. (Is this just a cover or does she really have a degree?)
She brings some stuff so Ollie can break out of the prison.
He breaks out with Francisco and his family.
Tumblr media
Love Ollie calling it underground railroad
And then...
Tumblr media
Yeah, Let's fucking free everyone.
Tumblr media
Continuing talking about the underground railroad.
And he does all that very charmingly and chaotic. A silly goose.
So, let's review what he did, he punched the INS cop standing up for an immigrant and standing up against racism.
Broke out every immigrant held in an INS prison. He also just left free and didn't get any formal release. He just broke out.
And if you haven't grasped, this isn't even a "these INS are corrupt INS guys". They are just the INS. There's no corruption or anything. This is one of Ollie's biggest middle fingers to the law.
For other story involving Ollie standing up for illegal immigrants, check World's Finest #275, the full story is 274-*278.

I feel like a lot of people in the fandom tend to forget this, so I'm just here to give a kind, thoughtful reminder :]
Ambrosius Goldenloin in the movie is an East Asian man (Korean-coded), his skin is tan, his eyes are monolid and his nose is big
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's voiced by Eugene Lee Yang - a Korean-American actor who also has Chinese and Japanese heritage. Eugene Lee Yang looks like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
During the production, when Ambrosius was decided to be East Asian, artists looked up queer East Asian-American men, and based Ambrosius off of them. Ambrosius is literally drawn to look like Eugene Lee Yang
Please draw him as such, thank you

My best friend and I had a call recently---she’s back with her family for a bit helping out with some hometown stuff. As part of the stuff, she’s been going through a (deceased) relative’s scrapbook, compiled in the American Midwest circa 1870-1900 and featuring mostly cut-out figures from the ads of the day.
She talked about how painstaking this relative’s work was. (Apparently the relative was careful to cut out every finger, every cowlick; this was by no means carelessly or hastily assembled.) But she also she talked about how---the baby on the baking soda ad is ugly, it is so ugly, why anyone would clip this heinously ugly illustrated baby and paste it into a scrapbook? Why would you save the (terribly told, boring) ghost story that came with your box of soap?
(Why include these things in the first place? we asked each other. ”There’s a kind of anti-capitalism to it,” she mused.)
And we discussed that for a bit---how most of the images, stories, artists, and ads were local, not national; they’re pulled from [Midwestern state] companies’ advertisements in [Midwestern state] papers, magazines, and products. As a consequence, you’re not looking at Leyendecker or Norman Rockwell illustrations, but Johann Spatz-Smith from down the road, who took a drawing class at college.
(College is the state college, and he came home on weekends and in the summer to help with the farm or earn some money at the plant.)
But it also inspired a really interesting conversation about how---we have access to so much more art, better and more professional art, than any time in history. As my bff said, all you have to do to find a great, technically proficient and lovely representational image of a baby, is to google the right keywords. But for a girl living in rural [Midwestern state] of the late 1800s, it was the baking soda ad, or literal actual babies. There was no in-between, no heading out to the nearby art museum to study oil paintings of mother and child, no studying photographs and film---such new technologies hadn’t diffused to local newspapers and circulars yet, and were far beyond the average person’s means. But cheap, semi-amateur artists? Those were definitely around, scattered between towns and nearby smallish cities.
It was a good conversation, and made me think about a couple things---the weird entitlement that “professional” and expensive art instills in viewers, how it artificially depresses the appetite for messy unprofessional art, including your own; the way that this makes your tastes narrower, less interesting, less open.
By that I mean---maybe the baby isn’t ugly! Maybe you’ve just seen too many photorealistic babies. Maybe you haven’t really stopped to contemplate that your drawing of a baby (however crude, ugly, or limited) is the best drawing of a baby you can make, and the act of drawing that lumpen, ugly baby is more sacred and profoundly human than even looking at a Mary Cassatt painting.
And even if that isn’t the case....there was this girl in [American Midwestern state] for whom it was very, very important that she capture every finger, curl, and bit of shading for that ugly soap ad baby. And some one hundred years later, her great-something-or-other took pains to preserve her work---because how terribly human it is, to seek out all the art we can find that resonates with us, preserve it, adore it.
It might be the most human impulse we have.

the thing is i do understand where the voters whose chief concern was the economy being bad are coming from. this isn't even a case of Eggs Are Too Expensive / Gas Prices Are Too High / whatever. i lost my job last november, and it took me almost ten months of nonstop applying to land another one that paid even close to what i was making before. my current boss told me that close to ninety people applied for my job, and they only interviewed the top ten candidates. the stock market might be doing great, and companies everywhere might be making record profits, but that doesn't change the fact that 1) said companies are having reorgs and mass layoffs like crazy (my mother interviewed for a leadership position at her job LAST WEEK and was told yesterday that she would have gotten it but the c-suite execs spontaneously decided the position actually didn't need to exist) and as a result 2) almost everyone i know is looking for work right now. and the majority of these are recent college grads!! young educated people!! they were told having a college degree would get them the job they wanted easily and yet there are either no jobs to be had or the few that are available (and pay decently) get applications in the double or triple digits and it's almost impossible to rise above the crowd.
and before anyone even thinks about starting shit: i happily voted for harris and democrats all the way down the ballot. what i'm saying is it's hard to be four months out of work, on unemployment, scraping into your savings to pay for rent and groceries and gas while applying to multiple jobs that might not even exist (and not even getting an interview unless you know someone who works at said company already), and then listen to politicians say that the economy has never been better without going 'sure jan' just a little.

The inherent tragedy in Wu and Lloyd unknowingly putting high expectations onto their first students because they experienced high expectations themselves and thought it was NORMAL.
The inherent tragedy in unknowingly pushing their kids away and making them think they’re not good enough i.e Lloyd saying Arin can be better and Wu believing that Morro is the green ninja
The inherent tragedy in them being GENUINE of these things because they don’t know how bad their kids feel. The fact that ‘you could be the green ninja’/ ‘you could be so much better’ stem from pride in their kids.
The tragedy in the fact that Lloyd and Wu genuinely believed their kids were the best and could be the best leading to their kids (maybe for Arin) downfall
Generational Trauma am I right guys…
Haha, no I’m not going crazy, Wdym
Tumblr media
(Just a lil side note I do hope people are more forgiving of Wu for his failings in Morro if they’re forgiving of Lloyd for maybe carrying out the same mistakes in the future in regards to Arin.)

Who do Russians support in the American election?
by and large russians support trump, if they care enough about the elections at all. among the pro-government, pro-war (and in a healthy chunk of the apathetic demographic), trump easily wins, for i think obvious reasons. even among the opposition, trump still garners a healthy chunk of support, because many in this group have a distorted view of american politics, believe it to be a "normal" country, think american cops are good in contrast to russian ones, and think climate change policies are socialism. many people in nyc russian communities who are anti-putin will have voted for trump today.

okay i can't find that post any more
but i worry about the trans girls who have gaping holes where their personalities should be.
it takes a lot of effort for a person to sustain your continued spiritual and psychological existence. i've met these trans girls, and i've tried to help (or I think I've tried to help). but the deadliest part of this is that to build yourself up brick by brick requires you to fight against the currents that want you dead, that want you to be the empty husk of a human being.
that's why the whole please stay alive thing is such a resonating statement; you need to stay alive for your own sake.
in the home city that means trying to find your own shelter when rent can easily cost you a third of your wage and landlords fucking suck. that means looking for a job that won't fucking deadname or misgender you, that you can tolerate. that means surviving. that means leaving clingy and transphobic family behind and uprooting what the home city believes should be your entire support system. that means trying to live, to get to the point where you can get hormone therapy, hair removal, bottom surgery.
i can't promise that things will get better. but if you know someone like that. if you know a trans girl like that. please. keep them alive. and help them fight. help them be themselves, and grow and bloom again.
we don't have much in the home city, but there are resources. places. things that we are doing and building so that we don't lose people. allies that are fighting alongside us.
because we will win. and when we win, i hope we don't have to mourn.

I said in an alternative universe that Loid calls Anya mon doudou amas part of hc I had for her (him being French ofc). Originally I got it from St Lucian creole so the translation was more of a my sweets/sweetie but recent research have revealed it means my blanket or cuddly thing in other regions.
In one of my fics, Anya loses her chimera, and Twilight in returns gives her his mother's locket, and he's obviously very torn about it. So I think the idea of him calling her doudou, which is like my blankie, is just so cute. Like blankies are comfort things you give to kids and Twilight lost his comfort thing but inadvertently gained a new one with Anya. He doesn't need the locket anymore he has Anya. It's his way of moving on yk
