so i wrote and posted this on my main half asleep og art @wolflyndraws here

he's got so many physical after effects with scars and skin damages but also mental: he's wild and completely feral. he lose himself, living outdoors. he hasn't had any contact with living, breathing being in a long, long time. even animals avoid him, leaving as soon as they see him. seeing him would scare anyone shitless, especially at first when the scars hasn't yet started to heal and the cuts on his face are gruesome and bloody. his body is one massive wound, it never stops hurting, driving him to madness. after a while, he slowly start to get better. his body starts to heal. his mind is still fissured but he gets more and more time as his old self. not totally back to himself, far from it, but he get more cognisant of what's happening around him and what he's doing. there's a point where he has to go back to a village to trade stuff. he doesn't trust anything not to hurt him and dislike the idea of letting anyone get close to him. needs must though, and after weighting up the pros and the cons, he goes to one nearby. he's not careful the first time around and the few people that saw his face expressed shock and disgust. they could not look at him without horror in their eyes and repugnance etched on their face. he honestly didn't think about what he would look like to others. he's been alone for so long at that point, and he avoid every reflective surface he has genuinely no idea what the torture left behind. but even without knowing, seeing other people reaction he can guess. ashamed, he runs away. but he can't stay hidden away forever, he still needs to trade. so he goes back, to another village. further away. clocked under a heavy, deep hooded, capelet. he's got no skin showing at all. and this time, interactions are easier. his voice is gruff, his vocal cords damaged. he hasn't spoken for a long time and the first few words he needs to utter are rough. he doesn't stay for long. he can't. so he makes the trips more often than he'd like too, just so he can spend as little time in here as he can at once. longer interactions makes him hyper aware and he nearly slip from the precarious balance that's his mental health. words goes around that one weird adventurer comes by, sometimes. taciturn and withdrawn, and in need of lots of personal space. and it attracts curiosity. everyone is eager to know who he is, where he's from and what he looks like. but Dream can't answer neither of those questions without people turning on him.

These two were easily the most difficult designs for me to nail down, so they make for fun comparisons. Not to mention I accidentally ended up doing all of these almost exactly a year apart.

Dying to finish this crossover fic (one shot for a series of multiple oneshots) so here's a juicy bit from it, putting it under a readmore. For context, Kaiba is driving and Yugi's in the passenger seat.

"You know I play games with my life chip, Kaiba. I wouldn't bet on my chip if I wasn't confident that I'd win."

And Kaiba wanted to bite back, but a voice in the back of his head stopped him. You already threw your chip away once, who are you to talk about what others do with theirs?

"Hmph. Don't get yourself killed." He could see Yugi shrug nonchalantly from the corner of his eye.

"And if I do?"

The challenge hung in the heavy, tense air between them. Feeling Yugi's gaze on him, Kaiba straightened his back as he refused to look back at him. He knew he was a hypocrite, and Yugi did too.

For all he knew, Yugi was silently judging him for it.

Yugi couldn't help the bite with which his words came out earlier, even if he's mostly forgiven Kaiba, he was still somewhat bitter.

"I trust that you won't." Was what Kaiba resorted to.

It took the duelist by surprise, because the bitterness subsided, a ghost of a smile spreading on his lips, "I didn't think you'd trust me that much."

The smirk Kaiba flashed was confident, almost mocking, "Like you said. You wouldn't bet your chip if you weren't confident you'd win."

Hello! I’ve been thinking about your stories lately, and got my mind wondering about how you come up with your ideas. What inspired you to make Felix and the Dauntless story? It looks amazing and I can’t wait to see more of it!

Sorry it took so long to respond! I kept coming back to reread this ask I'm just,,, so happy to hear you're interested/excited about Dauntless!!!!! :DDDD

For most of my/our stories (most of the wips are collabs with my sister lol) it usually starts as drawing inspiration from Other stories. We'll watch/read them and go "that was really good, I can see why they made the choices they did narratively, but wouldn't it be fun/cooler if..." then we kinda end up building an entirely new story around that concept. Sometimes they're completely unhinged from the canon cause we love making aus xD

Dauntless is weird in that sense, as it doesn't actually have any origin concept. We wanted each of the main characters in the Keepers saga to come from different backgrounds, and we thought having a cyberpunk ex-spy would be cool. 😂

Thematically it draws a lot from my personal life experience just... dramatized and exported onto a young man living in a futuristic dystopia lol From there the plot kinda ended up being a hodgepodge of all my favorite tropes respun into the sci-fi setting, as this is the first story I've worked on that's not been a fantasy!

The way I make up stories is very character driven, the plot forms as I think about the characters- who they are, who they need to become, and what fears/misconceptions/circumstances they need to overcome to get there. Building a plot always feels like a logic puzzle to me of juggling each member of the cast's arcs and story beats 😂 So most of the plot started from looking at the kind of character I wanted Felix to be at the end of his arc and going "okay what kind of backstory would produce a guy like that?" Then throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what stuck. (This bad boy has gone through so many revisions lol)

I've finally got it worked down to the point where I'm outlining episode/season structure and BOY have I got to tell you that feels good 😭 I am SO excited to share Felix and his pals with the world and it literally means so much to me they've already got a collection of people waiting to watch the show 😭😭

I /am/ anticipating when future England and co. finally figure out that North is in the past! My guess would be traveling back in time to get him. And, I imagine that some confusion/mistaken identity would happen? Also, if the future co. somehow met their past selves? Confusion and chaos would abound! And I would love to see how it would be resolved! :)

OMG I'm as excited as you are for the moment of Present bros realizing where and when North is. I know when it happens, but I haven't written that scene yet and ksjhfjashdfh I can't WAIT to get there. Like, the dawning realization, the angst, the worry, the hope, it's *chef kiss*.

A thing I still struggle with when it comes to time travel is the meeting your past/future self trope. On one hand, it would be amazing and chaotic to see the bros meeting each other. But on the other hand, I really want to keep the logic that there can't be two you's at the same time. I feel it breaks the immersion or something.

Like in Outlander, when Claire meets Captain Randall for the first time, she thinks it's her husband Frank from the present, but it's actually Frank's descendant (the husband and captain are played by the same actor btw). And even though the captain is a total monster, like the worst of the worst, she still makes sure to let him live long enough until his son is born, so the bloodline continues up to Frank's birth.

I like the logic of that kind of time travel. It's similar to the one seen in the third movie of Harry Potter. You can't interact with your past/future self, but you can change things indirectly because it already happened. That's why I chose North to be the guinea pig of my story instead of an older nation, there's no risk of meeting his past self. He's just a wee baby lol

So would the bros ever meet in person? Not directly, that's for sure. At least, that's not the plan at the moment, but who knows, maybe I'll find a way to let them see a glimpse if it works in the story ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
