Who do you think will survive the killing game??? ( also if you were already asked this my B )

Hi! Don’t worry, I don’t think I’ve ever talked about it, so I had to give it some thought :p It’s an interesting question, so let’s see!

As a TL;DR, my “most likely,” in order and assuming a standard killing game formula (obviously the amount of survivors could be way different), are Teruko - J - Whit - Rose - Levi

Spoilers up to CH2 EP15

Of course, there’s one character that’s already kinda locked in as a survivor (assuming a more or less standard fangan ending and not an “everyone dies” sorta situation), and that’s Teruko. While there were theories about a possible protag switch post-LGI release, I’ve never found them particularly believable, and I don’t really think they’re very popular anymore.

The next character that’s basically a survivor already is Min, because if I never accept her death, she will always be alive in my books. /j

Yeah honestly after Teruko my confidence on survivor guesses drops dramatically, since there’s obviously no good way to tell.

Still, one character that particularly stands out to me is J. I have my reasons to believe she might become the primary support character a la Kirigiri, and while that doesn’t guarantee survival, I’d say it ups the chances a bit.

As to why I believe that… well here’s the thing. I’m kinda planning to make a mastermind probability ranking post after CH2 ends, and I’ll talk about my predictions for J in more detail there. As a result, I’d just be repeating myself if I talk about it here. So, I'll give you the quick rundown and leave the more detailed explanation for that post.

Basically, I believe the core theme of DRDT is the concept of “fate” and the possibility of change, where the big climax for Teruko’s character arc in particular (the single most important arc for the narrative, protag privilege) will be rejecting the notion that she’s fated to have bad luck forever. She already talked about it with Xander before he stabbed her, and her primary character foil, David, “covered” Literature Girl Insane. You don’t exactly give that song to a character who is very hopeful for a better future. Even Teruko’s trust issues are born from the belief her bad luck makes betrayal inevitable. And with Ace talking about how he’s “a coward who couldn’t fight his fate” (paraphrased), the connection seems more solid than ever.

J is important in that context because her entire character is sorta designed around the concept of rejecting fate, the thing Teruko needs to “learn to do” as it were. J was born into stardom and fame, born “lucky” (LGI numeral number seven symbolism go brr), but hides it and rejects her birthright down to her secret quote, “Please don’t call me your daughter ever again.” If Charles and Eden are the ones who are trying to get Teruko to trust again, I see J as the one who has the best shot at convincing her that she’s not doomed by the universe itself, giving her the best shot at survival out of any non-protag imo.

Also, silly yet existent argument: the CH1 title screen had Teruko (and Xander), the CH2 had J. Is it possible the survivors will each be featured in one screen? Probably not, but still.

The next one’s Whit. DRDT seems committed to explore its characters as much as possible before they die (which I think we all agree is awesome), and that means those that haven’t been fully explored or developed yet have a higher chance of a late run, thus a higher chance of survival. This applies to J and Rose somewhat, but it applies to Whit especially. I sometimes feel that we know more about Mai Akasaki than we do about Whit, which should tell you something.

Contrast that to Charles, who is absolutely dying sometime soon (imo). Even ignoring the “Charles dead at three” Whit comment from the prologue, Charles’ character arc is a little too complete for me to think it’s likely he stays ‘till the end. After we close out the Elliot subplot (which could easily be in CH3 given Elliot’s MV is already out), killing Charles off would be a good way to really kickstart Whit’s inevitable Breakdown Arc.

Final points to consider about Whit are the fact that luck is mentioned in his character bio, which along with J’s LGI numeral VII and Teruko being Teruko gives him an extra connection to the two survivors I’ve pointed out; and the possibility of him being the mastermind. Again something for the MM post, but put briefly; he’s not a bad mastermind guess, but I think it’s very likely that if he is, he won’t survive, so there’s that.

The next one might be Rose? Recap foil with J, so if the dev wants to explore that to its fullest, Rose will probably make a late run at least. There’s a lot to explore with her character too, but frankly that’s a bit of a moot point; every character in DRDT has a lot to explore.

Even if she’s one of, if not the best pick for mastermind imo, it’s very possible she can be the type of MM to be redeemed and survive alongside the cast. Again, details will probably have to wait for the mastermind post :v Hate to be saying that so much, but understandably given some of the reasoning is similar, a lot of good MM guesses are good survivor guesses.

As for the fifth most likely… well, this is the reason this post took me a week (this and I was busy :v). See, if you’d asked me during the hiatus, I would have said Ace. Obviously, that wouldn’t have aged very well now would it?

The ask was sent a bit after Ep14, and by the time I got some free time to write this, it was already Wednesday and anything I said about Ace or Eden could have very realistically been proven wrong in just a few days, so I decided to hold off until culprit reveal. And now that Ace is looking like the blackened, I’m pretty glad I did.

This does bring up a curious issue of gender balance. In theory, there’s nothing stopping DRDT’s survivor cast from leaning one way or the other, but generally survivor casts do try to keep it as equal as possible. And with three women already listed, even putting Nico here would cause an imbalance. But the thing is… I don’t see almost any of the men surviving?

Hence, Levi. I frankly have no clue where his character is going with the recent reveals and the fact Ace is dying soon; I could just as easily see him as the second CH3 victim (if there are two) or fulfilling “buff character curse” by dying in 4. But… not knowing where someone’s arc is going is kinda the reason Whit is up there, so I’m using the same reasoning. It’s my least confident guess, so yeah. He’d certainly be an interesting survivor at least, I wonder how he’d play off the mastermind in trial 6.

To quickly cover the other characters, I’ll go in order of least likely to survive to most likely. Excusing the dead, of course.

-Ace: He’s technically still alive, but, uh… uh…

-David: If he were to survive, he’d need to go on a near identical arc to Teruko, which is… hard to imagine properly working. He’ll make a late run, probably, but I can’t see him reaching the sixth.

-Charles: Already explained.

-Arturo might be a little too insane to work. It’s hard to imagine a sixth trial with Arturo of all damn people around. Especially if J’s there.

And… those are kinda all the guesses I have for who is (in my belief) 100% dying. I could actually see every other character being a survivor :v

-Veronika runs into the same issue as Arturo; it’d be hard to let the mastermind do MM stuff when this girl’s there simping for them. However, I could see a world where dev keeps her for the psychoanalysis of the MM… kinda. Frankly, she should be in the “no chance” list, but… she’s my favorite alongside Min so let me have hope!-

-Nico has the advantage that they’re the only way to make a cast of 5 survivors perfectly balanced in terms of boys and girls; two of each and Nico. But that’s not very strong. The main issue is that I don’t really know what could happen with them in the remaining chapters that would advance their character to a point they’re a survivor, if that makes sense. Maybe if Rose makes it?

-Hu is weird. From what we’ve seen in the series, she would make a pretty compelling survivor. But… her secret quote…

Hu: I want to pay for what I’ve done. But even then, I still want to live.

Like, that’s the most “blackened” line in history; do you wanna state your victim’s name while you’re at it? Part of me wants to say that’s too obvious and the line will have a different context, but… it’s a secret quote in the source code of her character page. It’s not that obvious to anyone who follows the series more casually.

-Eden: I could see the argument of Eden>Rose (and therefore Eden>Levi as he’s only there due to gender balancing), since our favorite Clockmaker is quite easy to imagine in a final trial setting. The main issue is that… assuming a more or less standard formula, it’d be sorta weird to have someone in the sixth trial who can out-hope speech the protag, and Eden definitely fits that bill. It’s possible she makes it, especially given her involvement in the pre-prologue scene with Xander’s eye, but idk.

Here are a few extra survivor configurations I could see happening! Obviously there’s plenty more, so watch absolutely none of them be right.

Coda, Coda, Coda-DD Episode 4

In this post, I asked TDers to be on the look out for the Easter Egg that's not really an Easter Egg which Gimple mentioned on the NYCC panel. It was unclear if he was saying it was in episode 4 or not, but if he did mean episode 4, he was clearly referring to the Coda symbols in this is episode. For a reference as what a Coda is and how it is connected to Beth and her return, here is a wonderful post by @twdmusicboxmystery

I found two coda symbols in the episode. Please let me know if anyone found others. Interestingly, there are other TD related symbols above each of the codas.

In the garage with Theo and the other older gentleman, I don't remember his name, the coda symbol is clearly reflected on the top of the car.

The fact that this coda symbol is literally a reflection on a CAR is like a neon sign for TDers. If Beth did survive by being left in a car, either in the backseat or the trunk, putting the coda symbol on the car would be a clear sign that Beth was "resurrected" from the car as TD believes. Above it is a car sign for a brand of car, these cars no longer sold in North American, with a Chevron pattern like the one in the gray sweater Beth wore during Coda.

Next, there is the coda painted on pillars at the Nest. Soon after Isabelle's Coda-like death, this appears clearly in the shot behind Losang. Above the coda is a compass rose. I won't go over the compass rose symbolism as many other TDers have written about it for years.

So what do these codas mean? If this is the "mythology" Gimple is referring to, why is he calling it out? We know he uses symbols of all kinds in every episode. So, why call out this symbol now? The obvious answer is that the episode is the second Coda and now we will be going back to the first coda and Beth will return. Another NYCC tidbit is that right before the question that elicited Gimple's "Easter Egg" response was a question about crossovers and cameos. Gimple and Zabel looked at each other, laughed, and Zabel said that they are working on something right now.

By the end of season one and now throughout season two of DD, they have clearly repeated parts seasons 4 and 5. Based on this, below is my conjecture as to when Beth will return.

There may be post credits scene that airs after the cable broadcast of 2x6 where we see that Beth is alive like we saw Morgan after 5x8 Coda.

2. It could mean that we are in middle of a replay, but the replay isn't complete. I did a post explaining how we have seen a replay of 5x01, 5x02, and 5x03 here. However, knowing how the rest of the season goes, I don't think we have seen the replay of these episodes yet.

Honestly, as disappointing as it may be, I think season 3 will be about replaying some of these episode before we get Beth.

I'll post more about it later, but we already have a S3 spoiler that during a celebration a military like vehicle pulls up. Then, a man was heard yelling, "They kidnapped my daughter." I believe they were filming episode 2. So, @galadrieljones I believe you were correct about the kidnapping. It's not Laurent but a new character in Spain. Assuming D and C go after the girl, and I am sure they will, that episode may be the replay of Consumed and/or Crossed.

Another confirmation from S3 spoilers is the train connection. Trains are mentioned strangely in a couple of places in episode 4 as @twdmusicboxmystery pointed out in her video. She predicted that we would see a train soon. Guess what? A BTS picture was posted of a yellow(the color of reunion) train being filmed in Spain.

I'll post all the BTS pics I have as soon as S2 is over. I mention all the things TD has been and continues to be right about to show that we should not be too upset if she doesn't show at the end of season 2. She will show soon. Judging by the replays, she will show by the end of season 3 at the latest. Hang in there! In the mean time, Bethyl has the BEST fanfiction writers to keep us entertained!

TD is right. All the signs and symbols point to Beth's return. She will return. Unfortunately, TPTB are not in as a much of hurry to get there as we are.

he is an absolute ball of sunshine, silly little guy, love him. Tall boi. This guy's TALL. He plays basketball. Does he have ADHD? Most likely! Is he a little stupid? Absolutely! And I love him for it. He just silly. He is the kind of person who would accidentally burn the water while cooking, haha! This is also my favorite character in omori btw I love him he's so silly and goofy and I love him!!

LGBTQ+ Headcanons: panromantic asexual trans boy (he/him but he probably would be completely chill with they/them if someone used it)

Next up: sunny. That's him:

This guy. He doesn't really like to talk much (in other posts I've talked about a headcanon I have for him but basically I think he has a notepad or smth that he carries around to write things instead of verbally talking). VERY traumatized. Definitely needs therapy. Does he get it? Nope! He has his tall sunshine boyfriend instead :)

Now, you may also see him shown with an eye patch on one eye, or a scarred eye, or something similar. This, without saying too much because it would be spoilers, is because his eye got hurt towards the very end of the game, so people (the fandom) gave him the scar/eye patch for post-game fanart/fan animations/comics/etc.

HYPERSOMNIA JUNE DEV LOG : “FASHIONABLY LATE”

Hi! I already wrote this entire dev log but I closed the tab by accident, so it's now 10:55pm and I'm going to try and speedrun writing something that took me an hour to write.

For all of you who follow HYPERSOMNIA, you should already know what the gist is here I've been saying this for 6 months.

if you don't know what this is or are confused on what HYPERSOMNIA is read the other dev logs i've said this like every time lol

So, just as a heads up this log isn't going to be super long with new content because I have been insanely busy these last few months! I just graduated High School and the last few months have been me cramming to make sure I pass and could graduate and now I am!!! Yay!!!

I won 2 awards at my grad (One of them being excellence in arts :D) and the other I was given a check for 200$ so I snagged one of these!

Super happy I finally got a display tablet for drawing, I've wanted one of these since I was like 14 and it feels awesome to have one now. I got this thing super cheap too, this thing usually goes for like 300-350 Canadian and I got it for 130! Super super happy about this.

That's all from me personally, but I would like to say just as 1 last thing before the updates, Happy Pride Month to all who identify as LGBTQ+, I myself am queer and just want to remind all of you that you are loved and accepted. Hopefully I can get this out before midnight so it's still pride month LOL

OK! NOW FOR UPDATES! I don't have too much to share today but I do have somethings I want to show off.

First things first, I've been respriting some characters! Ross and Jack are the biggest edits I've made so far so I'd like to show them off.

Ross' walking sprites were updated! I was kind of dissatisfied with how Ross looks like he's struttin' everywhere so I redid it to give him a more casual walk. I'm very happy with this change and I plan for it to be the base walking animation going forward. I also updated his side profiles slightly to look closer to the key art I illustrated.

Jack also had his idles redone! He I think was the biggest thing I needed to resprite, his old sprite is kind of cluttered and poorly detailed so for his new one I simplified a lot of the shading and reshaped his hair and mask. I think it came out really well.

Also, just earlier I was working on music for the game.

I'm really happy with how this came out, I just got high and made Half-Life music (Which is what I was aiming for LOL)

Hopefully I can get to a point where I can finish off the soundtrack for the demo and post it all. Some friends of mine were a bit sad I delisted the tracks I had up initially so I hope to get those up again soon.

I've also been storyboarding out some early game cutscenes, I can't show a lot because it's all a bit spoiler-y but I will put this in the log.

And one last thing too, THE MOTHER DIRECT!

on July 27 at 6PM ET, MOTHER FOREVER will be hosting the MOTHER Direct, which HYPERSOMNIA is a part of!

AvA6 EP1 SPOILERS

Alright peeps I'm joining in this chaos and you should all fear me This post has no plan or path this is just a ramble analysis of things I notice in the new episode so :D

EXPECT MAJOR SPOILERS, PLEASE WATCH THE EPISODE FIRST ^-^

Ok so like first off guys- maybe like- don't fire your glitch weapons in the middle of a crowded city?? This seems like a bad idea?? You guys are worse than the Avengers when it comes to collateral damage smh

Ok but Chosen stopping mid-chase to save that civilian by destroying the debris really goes to show how he's improved as a character, this guy went from destroying Alan's PC, to rampaging various sites with Dark, and now to this. Glad to see him as a proper hero now :D

I'm happy to see the ice powers coming back cuz after that one time he froze the Firefox I thought they just forgot about it lol

Chosen is Zeus now Also he just like creates a glacier 2 seconds later cool

Also quick shoutout to Alan's Desktop organization He has come a long way

I find it funny how much everyone focused on this clip in the trailer especially, like "Oh no does Orange get mad at Alan again?? Is this related to Vic???" and the reality of it is "lol wanna fight me guys?" "Sure sounds fun :D" Alan you have bamboozled us again

I find this moment rather interesting So after Alan pulls up the thingy and sends them all flying then crashing down, Red appears to be acting like they hurt their head and Yellow notices and crawls over to see if they're ok (Awwwijascsdhljw) but as soon as they do Red just punches em?? However then Yellow puts their hands up in a way almost to be like "whoa whoa it's just me" and then Red accepts the comfort. Idk I just find it interesting, like Red is still in fight-mode after the sparring match and doesn't quite register that it's Yellow touching them at first XD

Chosen: "COME ON DO IT, DO THE EYE THING" Orange: "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT IDK HOW TO DO THAT" Chosen: "YES YOU DO JUST DO IT, LIKE THIS:" Orange: "AAAAAAAAA" *Tries to do laser-eyes with every ounce of focus they have*

Red: "uhhh are they ok-" Green: "Maybe you should stop them?" Blue: "yeahhh maybe-" Yellow: "Hmm, yes. Interesting"

Chosen: "UGH FORGET IT YOU'RE COMING WITH ME" Sticknapping 101

Aight but like where did this guy (Btw I'll call him Striker cuz that name was going around and it's cool) get this stuff? Has their group attacked a Desktop before and managed to steal enough UI to make this guy OP? Cuz he uses a lot of really crazy stuff during this fight and I can't help but wonder what poor animator woke up just to find the entire UI on their software missing lol

I love how Chosen really just pulls the "Throw the kid in the pool to teach them how to swim" on Orange and his powers here lol Then to Chosen's surprise it does not work "Aw shoot the kid is drowning now I gotta save them smh"

YEAHHHH ART POWERS Ok but actually though I find it interesting how differently the Pencil tool works outside a Desktop, like usually Orange like speed-draws the whole entire thing but out here it's like Ah yes, line scribble = E e l I mean it actually kinda makes sense, in the 3D world it'd be really difficult to draw anything really so the Pen just changes function a bit based on the environment

Poor Green does not enjoy climbing it seems :(

This guy can forever one-up everything "Ok but have you beat up a shark with your bare hands and won?

Ok but this guy's style is just like tribal or primitive and it's honestly pretty cool I have no clue what to call them though so that's up to the rest of the fandom to decide ':D

Also someone else on a different site suggested the name "Warnman" for this guy cuz he looks like the typical hazard sign guy who's always showing the dreadful things that will happen if you don't obey the sign and I think the name fits so Warnman is honestly my favorite of these guys just cuz of how wacky they are lol

Also this guy has to be like Anime Stick or something I do not understand this dude at all but they're sick

Let it be known that Warnman is canonically 2D

Dude how much charge do those electro-bullets hold if that thing is STILL zapping Chosen This poor guy Also the way Striker fights throughout this whole scene is so cool

I find it interesting and I think Alan pointed out in the reaction video (really funny btw you should go watch that too) That Striker is totally just messing with them before that, like sure he probably has to be close to the target to use the Pause attack but I like to think he was enjoying the fight before that and is only just doing it now cuz he's bored lol

Aight so the Rocket Group is the one hunting Chosen I wanna know though- why Chosen specifically? Are they just after all Hollowheads with the powers or is it just Chosen they want? Maybe they're after all of them but Chosen is the only one with a super known presence? Also who are these guys?? They seem to be just some independent group but do they hold any sort of actual authority over Stick City? Man I have so many questions

How do you pause fire-? Does it still burn? I assume not cuz I think it woulda burned the guys bringing him by now Man that's wacky but cool Also another question here is like, is that white box a containment unit or some sort of display case? I'm thinking more along the lines of containment but like he's already paused and they left the door open I think??

Aight now we're getting to the theory-fuel Why are they studying all this UI? Where'd they get this UI? Why do all these sticks look exactly the same??? Like I get that it's just supposed to represent a large group of workers and stuff but they are all exactly the same shade-

A h a A h a a a . . . VICTIM???? VIC MY GUY WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE HOW ARE YOU ALIVE?? LIKE I GET YOU'RE PROBABLY MAD AT ALAN LIKE KILLING YOU AND ALL BUT WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH CHOSEN AND EVERYONE?? I have many questions Also I am wondering if all the UI decor in his office is just art or what, are they trophies maybe? They probably had to get the UI for Striker's setup somewhere, did they raid Desktops before? Are those trophies from animators he's beaten? Man Idk but this is so interesting My final take on the episode: AAAAAAAAAAAAAA LET'S GOOO AvA 6 HYPEEE :D

It follows Hua Cheng's journey towards rediscovering the meaning of love and devotion, with Yin Yu playing a fundamental part on it, of course. Endgame HuaYin, of course, but also with a focus on the meaning of platonic love, friendship, soulmates, and forgiveness. Xie Lian and Quan Yizhen are still very important for Hua Cheng and Yin Yu, and they share a deep bond that goes beyond romantic feelings.

The second time the topic of food brought questions about their relationship, it was during a trip to Gerudo town. 

“Oh hey! Zelda, get over here!” Riju called out, already jogging over to meet them halfway with a smile wide and bright. It hadn’t been long since they’d last seen each other, but Riju was always one for a warm welcome – well, when she knew you were coming at least.

Zelda went to jog forward, but was stopped suddenly at the hand tightening around her wrist. She stopped, turning back to her knight. “Link, it’s alright. I won’t go far.” She said gently. But the hesitance in his stance, his grip, his eyes said it all.

The duo had known when they got up that day that it would have been best to sit in their home in Hateno, maybe do some research on various projects Zelda had been working on, but most of all spend time together. Zelda had known even while she got ready to travel alone to Gerudo town (like they discussed the night before) that it would have been best to sit outside by the tree, and perhaps read or watch over the land in each other's presence. 

Link, silent as ever, hadn’t said anything. Not that he ever did in the past, but… Well Zelda thought it was getting better. Ever since she began to open up more to him, she thought that he would speak more as well. There were certainly plenty of days where he talked as if he had just learned how, the excitement of a child poking through in his speech among his many mannerisms. But it was just the night before that sent all that progress screeching to a stop. 

Zelda knew in the way he quickly made her breakfast that something was off. He even made her favorite, a fruitcake. A recipe he must have relearned after the Calamity. It still warms her heart that he did that just for her, to make her feel a bit more like home in the hundred years since they lost what felt like everything. 

She knew when he took the time to clean up after they finished, letting her get ready in private, that something was wrong. They would usually do the dishes together, chatting about the heat or what activities their students might get up to that day. But not that day. As soon as she finished her plate was stolen from her, Link bumping up to the sink stiffly as he gazed distantly out the window.

Zelda knew in the way he had her travel bag all packed with the tablet – among other things she would need for her research – ready to go by the time she came back downstairs, that something had happened.

“Link? Did something happen last night?” She accepted her bag from him with a small nod of thanks, watching him carefully for any change in demeanor. And just like any morning after a particularly horrible nightmare, he said nothing, only avoiding her eyes as he reached for the tablet to send them on their way. Just as he reached for her arm for the contact that would enable them to travel together, Zelda sighed, pushing the tablet down so he would look up at her. Her prompt did nothing, so she instead took to taking the tablet from him entirely. He made a sound of mild-shock at the motion, yet he looked up, which was all Zelda needed. “Link. I told you to wake me up if they got bad.” 

It must have been the kind but resolved tone that made his walls break, his face crumbling and flashing so quickly between every emotion he must have had that morning in just a moment of time. Zelda patiently waited until it seemed he had better collected himself, and once more he looked away, unable to hold her gaze in his shame. 

“Link?” She pressed.

His eyes flicked back to hers, and he broke, saying the only thing he would say for the rest of the morning. “Let’s go together today.”

Though a little disappointed he still refused to talk about his dreams, she understood enough of what they would be about. Afterall, she got them too. So instead of voicing her thoughts on the matter, she smirked, throwing out a joke to ease the discomfort he was sure to be feeling. “It will be incredibly boring I’m afraid, this was just supposed to be a girls day you know.” And before he could backtrack, she added. “But I’m not opposed. I’ll be right by your side, I promise.”

And that’s what led them here, with his hand grasping tighter around her wrist, as if afraid that if he let her go she would disappear. The barely hidden fear in his face was enough for her to ignore Riju’s calls for the moment as she rounded fully to face Link. She pulled her hand from his grasp, only to place both on his shoulders, grounding him. Previously his eyes had been casting side to side in a rapid search for potential enemies, and Zelda scolded herself for not waking when he had his nightmare. She could have helped, maybe not much, since many of their nightmares (she assumed for his) were the same, in that bits and pieces were real – but still! She could have at least woken him, and assured him that they were both safe, at last.

Zelda subtly shook herself out of her mind; she couldn’t afford to go down that path right now, not while she could help the man in front of her at this moment. She would know, there’s no use in dwelling on the past.

At her touch, he seemed to calm, blue eyes halting their search and finally finding her own. “Link,” she spoke quietly, trying to keep his moment as private as possible from where they stood right in the center of town. “I promised I wouldn’t leave you right?” She waited for his slow nod in confirmation before continuing. “Right. And I promise now I will not leave you. I will not go anywhere without you close by today.”

He sighed as her words sank in, and his shoulders relaxed from their tense stance under her hands. Zelda also breathed a sigh, a small smile coming to her face at his acceptance in her. With that, she turned back around to face Riju, who had seen their moment of privacy and had stopped just a few feet back from where she normally would greet them.

Upon seeing Zelda turning back to face her, the chief grinned and bounded over to crush her in a tight hug. “Oh Zelda, I feel like it’s been forever since I last saw you!”

“Riju it’s been like two weeks,” Zelda huffed, smile not leaving her face.

“And that’s far too long, you must travel more often. Oh! Or better yet, how about I come to visit you next time?” Riju suggested, draping an arm around Zelda’s shoulders as she led her to the palace.

Thinking of the chaos that might bring, since some of the children had been begging to go on a field trip of sorts to visit all of the people that the wondrous Princess Zelda knew, she could only shake her head with a chuckle. “Maybe so Riju, maybe so.”

And of course she took that as a definite yes, fist pumping the air with a “That’s a deal!”

Zelda didn’t miss the constant presence of her knight warming her back.

“Oh and Link,” Riju said when they reached the entrance to her private quarters. “Not to be rude, but this is kind of like, you know, a girls day. Mind waiting outside? Or better yet you could go visit with some of the others in the town, I’m sure Nali would love to have a chat with you – you really helped her out you know.”

Instead of responding, Link only nodded his head in the direction of the wall outside, reaching out to brush a hand across Zelda’s own as he went to sit against criss-cross.

Riju just shrugged. “Alright, if that’s what floats your boat. Come on Zelda, I’ve got some news~”

Taking one last glance at Link, who now had his eyes closed, looking much more relaxed than before, Zelda smiled tenderly and went inside. She was a little surprised when they went through a couple more doorways than normal, and it was at that point that she realized they weren’t at her private quarters at all, but instead a small storage room that looked to have been redecorated into a personalized space. It actually reminded her a bit of her own secret research well. 

Just as she was about to inquire about the new place, Riju spoke. “Oh yeah, and Zelda, did you want some fruit or anything? It’s nothing great, but I always find a hydromelon slice refreshing when I spend all my days thinking about a voe.”

Zelda blinked, unsure she heard correctly. Riju looked unbothered, merely setting a platter of the desert fruit before them and settling herself onto a large pillow.

“Uh–hm– Sorry, what?”

“Oh, I just meant that I want to talk about voe today. Sorry if you were looking forward to anything different, but I just need an update since that spicy little moment you told me about a few weeks ago.” There was a mischievous lilt in her tone, but Zelda brushed right past it.

“So you only told me to come here to talk of the rebuilding status as a disguise because you wanted to gossip?” Zelda wasn’t disappointed by any means, really that wasn’t a day that she wanted to perform her long overdue duties – after all it’s not like she wasn’t acting out of laziness. 

Riju sighed dreamily as Zelda set down her bag, settling down into a fluffy pillow of her own and grabbing a slice. “Yes, it was all a lie. But did you really want to talk about all of that political stuff? We can surely do that another day, perhaps when I come to visit you. Sound fair?”

Zelda hummed, mouth full of the juicy fruit. She politely swallowed before replying, “Well, yes, I suppose you’re right. But I’m afraid you may find yourself disappointed in the gossip from my end.”

Riju’s eyebrows rose high, then furrowed just as quickly. “What? Why? Have you… not done anything since?”

There was a pause before Zelda felt her face light aflame. “Riju!” Zelda scolded, covering the red as best she could. “Don’t infer such things! We– no, I haven’t – we would nev–”

“You would never? Hah, I find that hard to believe.”

Zelda sputtered, then took a breath to collect herself. She was over a hundred years old, there was no need for her to get so flustered at a simple accusation. “I– No, we haven’t done anything.”

Riju looked thoughtful for a moment. “But you want to.”

Zelda stared at the woman across from her incredulously.

She continued before Zelda could rebuttal. “You can’t lie, I saw the way you were all touchy-feely when you came in.” She took a big bite of her hydromelon piece. “Alright, sorry I’ll stop bothering you about that part. But he has been hovering a bit today; does he always follow you around like that?”

“We weren’t that ‘touchy-feely’--” Zelda mumbled, though her brows drew into a line at her friend completely bulldozing her denial.

“Oh you totally were.” She said matter-of-factly, reaching out for another fruit slice.  “I know a moment when I see one.” She paused expectantly.

Zelda sighed in defeat. She grabbed a slice, but didn’t yet eat it. “You’re uh… You’re really observant, huh?”

Riju laughed. “Oh, of course I am. I started ruling at twelve Zelda. I had to know what people weren’t really saying because they thought I seemed young. Anyways, does he always do that?”

The blonde hummed, trying not to glare down at her food.

Funny, she thought, that every time someone has wanted to talk about her “relationship” with Link, it had been talked about over some form of food. Now, as a rational person, it didn’t mean anything, and she was probably overthinking, or reading too deep into things. But, by using that mind constantly on overdrive, and as a scientist, she was seeing a pattern. Looking down at the hydromelon, she hummed again. Funny, that she was thinking about him, knowing full well he was waiting patiently for her a few doors away. Not that he could remember, but she felt a pang of deja-vu from when she was once sat inside her room, wishing that the silent boy outside her door might come in and make a friend with her.

“So, what, is that a yes?”

Zelda blinked and looked up. “Shit, sorry– Zoned out I guess.”

“Damn, sailor’s mouth you got on you.”

Zelda broke off a piece of her fruit and threw it at her.

“Hey, don’t you be wasting any good food here!” She caught the fruit midair and popped it in her mouth.  “Although, I’m sure you get to have plenty of that when he cooks for you.”

Zelda scoffed. “I’ll have you know I cook plenty for him too.”

“Oh, really. And when was the last time you got him to eat some of your food?” Riju asked slyly.

“I’ll have you know I made him dinner last week.” She purposely didn’t elaborate, knowing full well she was digging herself a bigger grave. Zelda did in fact make Link dinner the week before, though she wasn’t sure if baking apples and dousing them in sugar counted as cooking. Or even a full meal, as she was insinuating – they actually also ate a pumpkin stew that he made. But she would die with that secret in her grave, or at least before Riju knew about it.

“Oh yeah? And what did you make?” She seemed intrigued. Which was fair, as last she knew, Zelda was a princess living in a castle, having all her food made for her. And while Riju was also part of the leadership role, that didn’t mean she had servants around here to provide for her. That was one of the things Zelda both envied, and somewhat shamefully missed from her past.

Zelda thought for the slightest of moments on how to word it, and finally settled with “We had pumpkin stew and baked apples. I coated them in sugar.” It wasn’t a lie.

“Ooo~ very fancy Zelda. You’ll have to make me some when I come over next, I regret to say I’ve never had pumpkin stew. Far too hot for it here you see, but I’d love to try anything you made that Link didn’t die from.”

“Hey!” Zelda shouted (still though, the accusation was completely fair). The Gerudo leader only laughed, waving a hand towards her to shush her, lest her “Oh so faithful knight hear and think she’s in danger.”

“Wouldn’t want him to come in and put an end to this conversation.” She chuckled. “By the way, you evaded me earlier when I asked if he does this often.”

Zelda, who for her part was still aiming to seem peeved about the totally unjust accusation, turned back and let confusion grace her features. “What, like protect me?”

“Well, kind of. I really meant to ask if he follows you like this all the time. I mean, we did agree this was to be a leader to leader talk today.” She joked.

“Ah.”

“Well, he does, doesn’t he? What, is he still trying to fall back into that soldier role?”

Zelda blinked. “What do you mean ‘fall back’?”

“Zelda, you know,” She paused. Zelda watched as she rubbed her arms up and down, then huffed and reached for more of the dwindling snack. After eating it fully she sat back and looked Zelda in the eyes. “Listen, I’m not sure if I should really say anything, but I don’t think he wants to be your soldier anymore. At least, not officially a knight, you know?”

That just about stopped Zelda’s breath.

So, he didn’t want to be her soldier, her knight? Does that mean he doesn’t wish to be around her anymore? Why doesn’t he just propose to leave then, it’s not like she’s outright forcing him to be around her?

And she asked her friend that, not once breaking her gaze even though for some reason she began to feel a lump form in her throat.

“What? Oh, no no no, Zelda. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that, I just meant that I think he’s following you, you know, protecting you for different reasons now. He doesn’t want you, or anyone to think he’s still following orders. Zelda, I think he’d follow you to the end of the world.”

Damn.

That’s… a lot to take in right after their banter a moment ago.

“And you know,” She continued. “He kind of already has.” Her friend gave her a small smile, and let her words sink in.

And Zelda sure needed a moment to process all of that. She looked down at the carpets on the floor, tracing the patterns as her thoughts raced silently. How long had he been thinking that? How did she know all that, did he tell her back before the Upheaval, or even during it? Even if he felt as such then, why hadn’t he told her anytime recently? Really, Zelda scolded herself, what did he even feel? Zelda always liked to think of herself as someone who never made assumptions, but how couldn’t she in this situation. Did he feel devoted to her in ways outside of being her guard? Were these even feelings of devotion? That felt like a word only shared between partners; a word used back in the days of courtship. A word she used to dream silly dreams about when she wished to find a romantic ending; a word she foolishly thought of before reality set in.

“I’m not sorry for going all wise on you for this, but honestly I saw this years ago, even when he didn’t fully remember you.” Zelda felt her friend's eyes on her as she took a deep breath, trying hard not to let her thoughts run wild and draw a wedge between what she thought was a perfect relationship with her knight. “Zelda, what all does Link do for you?”

She looked back up at Riju, who smiled lightly back at her. Despite the urge to turn this into denial over a sexual joke, Zelda knew this talk had to be had. If not with Riju, with some woman in her life eventually. She couldn’t keep going at this over and over in her head until she worked up the nerve to do something about it. As much as she hated it, she needed advice, and since her mother passed when she was a teenager, she never got much experience with any sort of feelings for people in the first place.

In response, Zelda only shrugged. “I– Well, he cooks for me. He… well, he’s saved me countless times, honestly I don’t know if any of us would be here without him–”

“Zelda.” Riju spoke.

Zelda’s eyes flicked around the room, then settled on her hands and she huffed softly. “That’s not what you asked.” She paused, really taking the time to think.

Of course just before she had her thoughts together, some little demon on her shoulder said, “Nope! Screw this, I’m pulling the plug!” And with that she felt it all come spilling out.

“I don’t even know how to explain it, Riju! He cooks for me, yes, but he also sits with me and he talks to me about my research. This may just be me assuming but I like to think he really enjoys talking to me. He sits with me before dusk to read by the tree. He comes to help out at the school even though I know he hates large crowds and being bombarded with attention. He’s learning to speak around people again because he wants to be able to talk with everyone again. He knows how much I love to hear him speak, so if ever he does it’s by candlelight next to me.” After noticing her voice rising in pitch over the course of her rant, she deflated a little and continued softer. Fonder. “He’s my best friend, and we’ve lost so much together. And goddesses Riju, we’ve gained so much. You know, we’ve spent every day together for the last year and a half, and never once has he made me feel out of place for losing my mind in the body of a dragon. Never once has he made me feel lost, even on the days where I wake up and am confused as to where I am and where I’ve been. He always tries to make sure I don’t feel the burdens of his nightmares, because he stupidly thinks he needs to carry it all alone to protect me.”

Zelda huffed a breath as she finished, though she felt there was more to be said. Riju didn’t push her though.

“Zelda, what you have with him sounds precious.”

At that Zelda ran a hand through her hair and bent over to rest her elbows on her knees, inadvertently messing up the braids crowning her head. Her hair had grown out some since their last little adventure, but not much to the point where it would stay perfectly in a hairstyle.

“Yeah? And what is it that we have? Because it sounds to me like we have a great friendship teetering on disaster because I can’t keep my wits about me.”

“Hey Zelda? Look at me.”

Zelda did look up, though she remained hunched over. Riju stared at her for a moment, then she grabbed the second to last piece of fruit on the tray. Instead of eating it however, she turned her eyes to it, then looked back at Zelda. “You mentioned that he cooked for you more often than not. Does that mean something special to you?”

Getting a little tired of the ‘oh-so-wise’ questioning, Zelda raised her gaze to the ceiling. Realistically, none of this meant anything other than two friends caring for each other very much (at least that’s what she told herself). “Riju, I’ll be honest here, I don’t know what the fuck is going on with me. Ever since that stupid little run in we had three weeks ago I haven’t been able to keep my mind off of him.”

“Oh ho, there’s that sailor’s mouth on you again? You’re getting real naughty in his care, aren’t you?” Riju joked.

Zelda tried her best to appear affronted, though she was grateful for the banter to be back. Though she knew she needed the conversation, it was getting a bit heavy for her tastes. Maybe they could finish another day.

“You know what this all sounds like Zelda? All this little stuff he does for you?”

Or not, she thought.

“It sounds like it’s his love language.”

Definitely still talking about this today then.

“Wh–Riju! What in Hylia’s name are you talking about?!”

She only smirked. “Oh I’m not saying anything definite, I’m just saying it sounds like he’s trying really hard to show you how devoted he can be without the title of your knight.”

She paused to give Zelda a chance to say something, but nothing seemed to be coming out so she continued on. “I mean, even just cooking for you could count as gift giving, which is a pretty definite love language. He’s probably the kinda voe to be adverse to physical touch too, huh.”

Zelda figured that last comment was meant to be phrased as a question, but Riju was completely right regardless. “Ah, um, well, I mean he really doesn’t seem all that adverse about it around… me.” She faded off with the realization. “But! He still has his days.”

“As if that makes your point any better.” Riju laughed, finally taking a bite out of the melon slice she nabbed what felt like ages ago. “Zelda, I’m not saying it’s love, but I am saying it may be something to look into.”

Zelda looked down at that last bit of fruit on the tray, laying lonely beside the skins of its eaten brethren.

She didn’t think it was love. It couldn’t be, it was just a bit of confusion; feelings being confused between two friends who had been through far too much together. It was probably just one of those friends getting ahead of herself.

“Riju, this is probably just all in my head.”

“It’s not.” She replied instantly. “But I know you won’t fully believe me. So try and think about it yourself then. Would that big ol’ sciency and experimenty brain of yours make up all of these facts?”

“Riju, I only just learned about ‘love languages’ from you two minutes ago. Where’s the credibility in that?”

“Um, well, I think I take the place as your second best friend so just your trust in me is all the credibility you need.”

Zelda knew she wasn’t going to get a real answer from her friend – her second best friend – so she said, “Okay.”

“Okay?” Riju confirmed. Zelda nodded and she smiled. “Okay then! Now I gotta ask, what ideas have you got brewin up there right now?”

Zelda rolled her eyes. “At the moment? Absolutely nothing.”

“What? How can you have nothing! I just went through all of that convincing for you not to even do anything about it?”

“Oh no, I’m going to do something, I’m just not sure what yet.” Her eyes twinkled deviously. “I don’t know, maybe I’ll bake him a cake. Or maybe you’ll just have to come over sooner so we can plot something.”

Riju’s eyes lit up with glee. “Or both!” She stood quickly, pulling Zelda up as well and pulling her in for a big hug. “Oh Zelda, I’m so glad you’re getting to live a normal life again.”

“Normal? Honey I feel like this is far more chaotic than I had it before. I lived ten-thousand years as a dragon, I didn’t have to think about any of this.”

Riju laughed with her, their voices filling the room and spilling out the curtained windows.

The two talked for a moment more, setting up vague scheduling for when Riju could make a surprise appearance at Zelda and Link’s home in Hateno, up until there was a knock on the wall outside their doorway.

The girls abruptly quieted, knowing exactly who it was. Afterall, Zelda knew today was not the day he was going to come barging in without permission. Maybe on another day, but especially now that afternoon was setting in, she knew he would be as considerate as possible to the vai of the town. Riju gave Zelda a look, and Zelda returned it with a roll of her eyes as she picked up her pack. Riju told her to have safe travels, and Zelda thanked her for the hospitality. Then she glanced down at that last piece of hydromelon, and she thought of all that Riju had said that day.

With a small smile to frame her face, she picked up the piece of fruit and opened the curtain to see her loyal knight leaning against the wall.

‘Ready to go?’ He signed.

She nodded, waving goodbye to Riju, who turned back to tidy up (and undoubtedly give the two some extra privacy). Before Link could grab the slate to teleport home, Zelda held up her gift. “I didn’t make it, or even cut it.” She clarified. “But I wanted you to have it. Figured it’s been a while since you’ve had one.”

And it may have been just her wild thoughts projecting what she wanted to see back at her, but she could have sworn she watched his ears tint pink as he took it from her. He ate it quickly, almost animalistically, as always. He signed ‘Thanks’ when he finished, then pulled her tight against his side, squeezing gently in an extra array of sincerity as the room filled with blue streaks of light.

Zelda knew she would be thinking about this for the rest of the day, but she couldn’t help but wonder what tests she could run on her new investigation into love languages.

it’s miya again :) I hope all has been well with you. I really loved your meta this week & it made me realize the reason I appreciate your analysis so much. You write about buddie but you write about them as buck AND eddie and not like they are one combined single unit. buck and eddie are their own people with different personalities and i think people forget that sometimes when it comes to talking about them together.

I love how the focus of your analysis was eddie and his clear childhood/adolescent trauma dealing with traditional parents who believe in only one way of doing things. I feel like people kinda missed that when talking about eddie & his performing. i know people interpreted the performing line as literal but it’s much deeper than that and you pointed that out very well. it all goes to show you we look at things through so many different lens but i love your focus point so much. you honestly make me want to get better at my own writing and analysis for this two lovers.

I wanted to ask you though on your thoughts about buck downplaying his brush with death. He never has explicitly said out loud “i died” & I do think that moments coming soon. I just found it interesting that everyone keeps reiterating that to him & i wonder if he’ll snap the next time someone says it. Buck has not processed or accepted that his trauma happened. him referring to him literally dying as “an accident on the job” breaks my heart cause you can tell he wants people to stop making a big deal of it, despite it being very serious. he is suppressing his trauma which i understand as someone with ptsd. anyways sorry for my rambling. buck is my favorite & character i connect to the most so i tend to babble a lot lol. hope you have a lovely rest of your day/evening/night whenever you see this ❤️

I've had a very challenging week (which is not yet over... when you read this, I'll probably be recovering from another double shift), but the feedback on everything that I was most stressing out about has been amazing, so I'm exhausted, but very satisfied! Awww! Yes, that's exactly it! I think I even explained it in one of my earlier weekly meta posts, that I'll be writing about Buck, Eddie AND BuckandEddie. So I'm glad that's something you not only noticed, but also enjoy! ^u^ Thank you SO MUCH for the kind words! And I'm particularly please to learned you liked my POV on Eddie in my 614 meta. I know I've spoken to a very perceptive friend of mine back when... I think it was still s3 airing? Or possibly start of season 4, and despite how smart and insightful she is, she had missed the bit about Eddie's conversation with Bobby back in 217. So yeah, I think a lot of people might have? We all miss something, since 911 serves us with so much goodness. And I'm glad if in this case, this is something I can add to the table.

I fully agree with you, Buck is not really coping with what happened, given the fact that he's not yet said it out loud, and other characters have to remind him of it repeatedly. I also wondered this week if his PT scores being low is also a reflection of him still struggling with the lightning strike and how to recover from it. Because remember in 301, when he was coming back from the fire truck crushing his leg? He still aced his re-qualification exam. Even after he also suffered a pulmonary embolism during that very same period of time AND survived (and rescued others during) a tsunami, we never got any indication that his physical ability to bounce back had been diminished. So that suddenly changing? It could be a sign of the gravity of the matter, and how this is different, and Buck has to wrap his head around it, but because he hasn't yet, his full recovery is also stalling. I don't wanna get too much into spoilers, but based on the little that we do know about the finale, I feel like if this isn't addressed before the end of the season, then it should be in its very last ep. The themes seem like they would easily lend themselves to it, in any case. I hope that's what happens! If it also leads to some breakthrough with Eddie, one of them finally, finally ADMITTING what the other one means to them, I would be ecstatic, but I would absolutely take the win if we simply see Buck starting to actually face the trauma he had just been through.

Okay, so, here's everything I've heard about the Eddie Munson/Kas theory:

First of all, if you don't know who Kas is, basically he's a character from Dungeons & Dragons who's half-human, half-vampire, and there's a theory that Eddie will essentially become Kas in season five of Stranger Things.

Quick warning: Spoilers for season four of Stranger Things. Also this is a long post, so hold onto your butts, brochachos.

'Kay, so we all know that Eddie dies at the end of season four. Yes, I cried too, don't worry. But, thankfully, there's a theory that he could come back, and I personally think it makes a LOT of sense. Here's everything I've heard about it. If you have anything to add, or you actually know things about D&D unlike yours truly and would like to correct my information, please let me know.

First of all, let's look at how Eddie actually kicks the bucket. He's eaten by bats. Kas is also eaten by bats, later becoming a vampire. Eddie also has a tattoo on his arm that depicts a swarm of bats, and while I doubt Eddie would become a vampire in the literal sense (this isn't Riverdale), bats are obviously directly related to vampires. What are vampires? They're undead creatures.

One of the weapons Kas is known for using is his shield, which has spikes in it. As we all know, Eddie also uses a makeshift "shield" with spikes, AKA a garbage can lid with nails hammered through it. Still serves the same purpose.

Let's look at how exactly they'd explain how Eddie is miraculously alive. In D&D, Kas is basically Vecna's right-hand man, but he later turns on Vecna and defeats him. Our Stranger Things version of Vecna has the same powers as El, and we saw El bring Max (or her body, at the very least) back to life. If El can do this, so can Vecna, meaning he could revive Eddie. As far as we, the audience, know due to the two-day jump soon after his death, Eddie's body is still in the Upside Down, and thanks to Will we know that Vecna is still alive, though in pain. The question now is, what motive would Vecna have for reviving Eddie? Well, not only do we know Vecna is able to bring people back to life, but he is also able to control people's minds, as we saw with Billy and Heather in season three, which brings me to my next point.

If Vecna were to revive Eddie and take control of his mind, perhaps to get close to the kids in Hawkins as a spy of sorts or for another reason entirely, this would essentially make Eddie Vecna's puppet. How is this relevant, I hear you asking. Well, see, random person on the internet, if you were not already aware (which you probably were, but anyway), the song Eddie plays on top of the trailer to distract the demobats is Metallica's "Master of Puppets." Not only this, but one of Eddie's many glorious tattoos is literally a puppet. The writers could make him a servant of Vecna, a human puppet, completely under Vecna's control, until he's snapped back to reality with the power of friendship or something and defeats Vecna once and for all.

Or not for all, but I'll get to that in a minute.

We all remember this wonderful scene:

Look a little closer: the cassette in his hand is Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden has a mascot. What is that mascot? Some kind of weird undead creature thing. What is the name of this strange being? Eddie. I'm not kidding, its name is literally Eddie. Google it if you don't believe me.

Now, as for what I said about Eddie defeating Vecna once and for all not actually being once and for all. Let's all take a moment and think back to the very first episode of season four, shall we? Specifically, the Hellfire Club meeting, in which Erica plays in her brother's place. You all know the scene I'm talking about, now let's think about it.

First of all, from what I remember, this is the only scene in the whole show where Kas is mentioned by name, when it is revealed that Vecna is actually not dead like they thought he was and Mike shouts, "Vecna was killed by Kas!"

"So it was thought, my friends, so it was thought," Eddie replies, shaking his head. "But Vecna lives."

Okay. So Vecna was killed by Kas. Vecna is now back, apparently not dead. I assure you this is not just D&D lore unrelated to the point of this post, because trust me, dear reader, there is more to this scene worth mentioning.

The club has chosen to fight. Now, almost everyone has been defeated, except for Dustin and Erica. The two living players now face a choice: Do they surrender, or do they fight? They choose to fight, with Dustin putting things ever so eloquently: "Screw it. Let's kill this son of a bitch."

Now, in order to defeat Vecna, a 20 must be rolled. Dustin rolls first. Not only does he not roll a 20, but the number that he rolls is 11. Where have we heard that before, hmm?

Now Erica rolls. She rolls a 20 and delivers a critical hit, killing Vecna, while her benchwarming brother over in the gym simultaneously scores a winning buzzer-beater in his basketball tournament. It's a victory for the nerds and the jocks, who would'a thunk it?

Now, here's the idea:

They thought Vecna was dead, having been killed by Nancy, Steve, and Robin and falling from the Upside Down version of Creel House. But here he is, clearly living. Eleven is the last hope for defeating him. She's so close to taking Vecna down once and for all, putting him and everyone else out of their misery. But Vecna is too strong, and overpowers her, and she fails.

Here's Eddie, unwillingly loyal to the beast who indirectly caused his death. He's an undead puppet, his brain under Vecna's control. But something snaps. Like Vecna himself says: "He thought about something that made him sad, but also angry." We already know full well that Eddie has many memories like that, as most people do. That's where Vecna and El find their power, and whether Eddie has powers or not, that could be a source of his strength as well, to bring Vecna down and put an end to everyone's suffering.

Also, there is one more small detail which could point to Eddie not actually being dead. There is a song that the Stranger Things fandom knows as the "fake death" song, as it is used both when Will is presumed dead in season one and when Hopper nearly dies in season three. This song is "Heroes" by David Bowie. However, the song that plays when Eddie dies (I can't remember the title and I can't find it online) is also the song used at the end of season one when El "dies." Coincidence? I think not.

By the way, before you reuse the argument that the Duffers said that Eddie is "one-hundred percent dead" in an interview, might I remind you that there was once a time when both Martin Brenner and Jim Hopper were "one-hundred percent dead" as well? As they are clearly not, my point still stands. Also, it wouldn't make sense for the Duffer Brothers to say, "Well, actually, Eddie's alive," because what sense is there in spoiling what would be a major plot twist in season five before you've even started writing it? They've also said Eddie's death will play an important role in the fifth season, and I doubt they'd be saying that if all the characters did was sit around and think about all the times they had together. Which, for most of the characters, was no time. Plus, Eddie can't be dead—this man hasn't had a chance to meet Will, Argyle, or Suzie yet, and you know he'd love them.

But, hey, we won't know until season five, so until then, all we can really do is wait impatiently and hope for the best.
