Hi I have an angst thought for the demon AU and idk completely how your demon lore works but Gordon kinda being scared to show affection towards Benrey back because he loves him and doesn't wanna eat him idk how your lore works but I'm normal

You’re on the right path- and completely right about Gordon being hesitant about showing affection towards Benrey.

Demons in this au don’t eat people, but they do eat souls. Gordon in particular is pretty reliant on affection and lust as a meal, hence his job, because he’s a succubus. In comparison to a soul though- it’s not that much.

Eating a soul (at least for succubus/Incubus) is via direct contact mouth-to-mouth, that being a direct kiss on the lips. He’s only done that once, and it wasn’t intentional- and was pretty traumatic. (It kills people so- yeah.)

He does like Benrey though! He slightly thinks Benrey’s affection is being induced by his powers, but he’s too weak for that so he’s being sorta irrational.

And Benrey does genuinely like him, got no clue about Gordon’s fatal smooch tho.

I don’t think it is just a gen z thing with “dead dove: do not eat” where they think of it meaning darkfic. If we’re being fair most works that have that tag/need that tag are darkfics. So it’s just an association thing and not entirely changing the meaning.
