You were just laying in bed scrolling through your phone, the hours of another uneventful evening just ticking away.
That was, until the sound of your ringtone disturbed your peace, the name “channie” appearing in the middle of your screen. You waited a few seconds before answering, and then put the phone to your ear.
“Hi Chan,” you started saying. “What’s up?”
“Y/n, you need to come to the dorms now,” he said in a hushed tone, as if he didn’t want anyone to know he was talking to you.
The seriousness of his words resulted in you immediately incorporating into a seating position on your bed, an alert state taking over you.
“What’s wrong? Is everyone okay?” you frantically asked.
You could sense Chan hesitating. “Uhm, it’s Felix. He…”
You sighed. “Did he get into a fight again?”
“Yeah. He isn’t letting me help him, so I thought the best thing to do was call you, but he didn’t want that either. Now I’m hiding in my room to talk to you, so please come soon. He’ll only listen to you.” The desperation in his tone was clear.
“I’ll be right over.”
With that you hung up the phone, and put on the nearest pair of shoes you could find. You quickly grabbed your keys and headed out of your apartment, locking the door behind you and starting to head towards the boys’ dorm.
You couldn’t help being worried for Felix. This was not the first time you were called over after he got into a fight, you being one of the only people he would allow to help him.
You had never understood why he got into so many fights until one day, while you were tending over his bruises, he confided in you and told you that his family didn't come from a great background, and he had distanced himself from his parents for various reasons. He still worked his ass off to help maintain them and his siblings, plus having to keep his grades up at the same time. His situation caused some people to often direct harsh words at Felix and his family, only because they considered themselves superior, targeting the boy's weakest spots with their nonsense.
Sometimes anger just gets to the best of him and he, more often than not, ends up with a few bruises. You knew that Felix wasn't one of those people that went around punching people for fun, but fighting out of anger didn't make it right. The thing is, he goes to the same school as the people who bother him, so he has no choice other than to try to stay out of trouble.
He isn't always successful.
To add on, Felix really liked dressing as the typical "bad boy". An old leather jacket and ripped jeans was something you could often see him wearing, plus the intimidating face and voice didn't help with his image, either.
Thoughts like these ran through your head the whole way to the boys' dorm, where Chan had let Felix stay in since he left his home. The nine of them were a pretty tight group and you were really glad that they had each other, but Felix was still getting in these fights, coming home late and often disregarding the rest of the boys’ worried words.
Once you arrived you rang the doorbell, and a few seconds later a very worried Chan opened the door, relief immediately flooding his features once he saw it was you.
"He's in the living room. The first aid kit is next to the table," he let out hushedly. You let out a deep breath, entering the house and heading to the living room.
There you saw Felix, his head in his hands. Once he felt a presence in the room, he looked up only to sigh at the sight of you.
"I told him not to call you."
You rolled your eyes. "Well, I'm here either way."
You walked closer and sat across from him, allowing you to take a closer look at his state. His face was pretty beat up, blacks and purples blooming around his eye, his lip bloodied. You directed your gaze towards his hands, his knuckles starting to look pretty bruised up too.
You didn't say anything else, and just stood up to retrieve the first aid kit Chan had mentioned. You were pretty familiar with it already.
As you prepared the things to start cleaning up his cuts, you decided to try and get some information out of him.
"What happened?" you softly asked.
He sighed before answering. "It doesn't matter."
"It does matter if it made you turn up in this state," you said, while running a wet cloth along his cuts.
Felix stayed silent, letting you clean him up. You proceeded to apply an ointment on his wounds, the boy scrunching his face a little due to the discomfort.
While you moved on to his knuckles, grabbing a bandage to wrap them up, he suddenly started talking.
"They were saying bad things about my brother, I had to do something." If it wasn’t for your proximity you wouldn't have heard what he had said, as his words were muttered in a low tone.
"You know that the things they say are not true, right?" you tried to reassure him while finishing wrapping the bandage, placing your hands on top of his. "They just want to rile you up so you get in trouble. It's not worth it, Lix."
"Yeah, but I just can't not do something every time I hear them. I just get so angry, they have no right to say things like that." You noticed he started getting mad again, so you quickly put your arms around him, pulling him into an embrace.
"Hey, I know it's hard, but you need to stop getting into these fights. They don't do any good to anyone, and I know you can be capable of remaining calm. What's important is that you know that the things they say are pure bullshit, and if you don't react they'll stop. Trust me Lix, it will be better for you." You pulled away to look into his eyes, and you noticed they were a little glassy.
"I... I'll try to get better. It hurts, though, the things they say," he muttered.
"I know. You don't deserve to get those words thrown at you. You're so strong Lix, I know you'll get past this." You directed a small smile at him.
"Can you stay here tonight? I'm not in the best headspace right now," he asked quietly.
"Only if we can cuddle." Those words managed to coaxe a small out of him, and you saw him wince a bit because of the pain in his features.
The boy stood up from the couch and pulled on it so it could lay flat and turn into a bed, which was where he had been sleeping since he lived there. You got some blankets and the both of you laid down, cuddling together. Your hand instantly started running through his hair and in a few minutes the boy was in a deep sleep, the exhaustion from earlier events catching up to him.
Some time later, you saw Chan, Woojin and Hyunjin standing in doorway, observing the sleeping boy.
"How is he?" Chan asked.
"Injury wise, he's fine. He needs to stop the fighting, though," you responded. Chan nodded, and you watched as the boys stared fondly at you two.
"Thank you for taking care of him, y/n," Woojin said.
"No problem," you softly said while smiling at the boys.
Because it was true, taking care of the sleeping boy in your arms was never going to be a burden. You would be there for him when he needed you, even when he didn't think he did.
