For the ask game: I wish you would write a fic where the KHUX cast were Digimon tamers/chosen children (since I know you ALSO like both franchises, haha).

Oho, this is a fun idea

First thing that comes to mind is Ventus with a meicoomon. Powerful but small? Has a "good" evolution line and a "bad" one? Absolutely fitting. Khux ventus would have a meicoomon → meicrackmon → rasielmon partner I think; wayfinder ventus has a meicoomon → wingdramon → dynasmon partner, while Vanitas has meicoomon → meicrackmon vicious mode → raguelmon as a partner. Ventus-vanitas can have ordinemon as a bit of "wow this is a messed up situation huh", as a treat.

Skuld feels like she'd have a Lunamon (probably Lunamon → lekismon → crescemon → dianamon, traditional evolution line).

Ephemer with Coronamon (and the traditional Coronamon → firamon → flaremon → apollomon line) fits well as well I think. For a bonus, he and skuld's friendship could mean that while player fights them, player's partner digimon could have to fight against a very powerful GraceNovamon, ahaha

I'm not sure what partner I'd give Brain or Player, but I think Lauriam could do well with a Palmon. Lillymon or Rosemon would be the strongest form his partner would get to, I think; I can also imagine said partner going down the Palmon → vegimon → blossomon → lotusmon post-khux, when by marluxia's side

Tbh I feel like one could put digimon alongside khux pretty easily; keyboard wielders having digimon partners as well, and it being tied to that legacy of being a keyblade wielder or something. Digimon partners helping their tamers, not too dissimilar to a chirithy if you think about it -- friends that're for the most part Always There.

Anyways the tldr is I don't think it'd change canon too much but it would be a fun lil fic to write at some point. Digital creatures who are your friends <3

The first and second season of the anime, and the surrounding movies, share a continuity, but aside from that all seasons are self contained and you can watch whichever you want.

I know some people like the english dub, but personally, I honestly don't like it at all... I do really like the german dub, but I really recommend watching the Japanese version. It's my favorite and is considered canon.

The big one right now is Digimon Liberator! I've been loving it personally. It's a full color web comic, so it has not normal page layout and instead is just scrolling. ▙▚ NOVELS

There two big web Novels of note for the Digimon franchise. Firs one is Digimon Seekers, which ran from 2023-2024 and consistes of 4 Chapters plus an Epilogue. You can read it on the official Website, but many fans noted the english translation being not great at certain points, so some dedicated fans edited the translation to fix the issues.

The second is Digimon Liberator, which is not simply a novel version of the web comic, but instead tells the story from the perspective of a different protagonist! From what I can tell, the translation for this one is better, although they sometimes mess up the card effects, so make sure to read the actual cards, which are included as pictures.

▙▚ CARDS

Finally, what this blog is all about really, the Card Game. There have been many Digimon Card Games over the years, but I'm really only familiar with the current one. If you want to try learning it, there is a tutorial app in the Play Store, and a Rules video on the official YouTube channel that covers the essentials. There are also Fan made simulators to play online, with dedicated fan bases that you will surely find people to play with or show you the ropes!

If you just like the look of some of the cards, I encourage you to check the pricing on cards you got your eyes on. If the card isn't insanely diffcult to get and important for meta decks, you have fairly good chances to get some gorgeous cards for reasonable prices! I also collect Pokémon Cards, and let me tell you, the production quality of the Digimon Cards is leagues above.

So... Through the course of the movie, we see how the different characters are trying to reason with the task at hand.

Should they defeat the enemy and cause the bonds of humans and Digimon to break?

When I had first watched this scene, my heart was torn into two different sides. On one hand, I was proud to see Takeru be the one to bring up the idea that fighting may not be the right choice. This is Takeru we are talking about - the Takeru who had witnessed his own partner die after defeating Devimon, who had to part ways with him several times afterwards, once after the events of Adventure, then again between 02 and Tri... And also when Patamon got infected and lost all his memories. Last but not least... And this is where I was torn, because I wished, oh HOW I had wished, that he had brought up Yamato at this point. His brother, who had lost his partner merely one and a half years ago... And who had been just as hesitant to fight as him...

Not only that... But the way Hikari is responding, prioritizing the needs of others - a huge number of people to be exact - over her own, is not only very in-character for her... It also mirrors her brother's reaction from one and a half years ago. The only difference being that we're talking about much bigger scales now. The Yagami siblings always understood the need to fight, even if they personally didn't like it...

It's a bittersweet parallel between the siblings and yet... If you know me, you also know how hurt I was by the fact that neither Yamato nor Taichi nor any other of the older Chosen Children had been brought up in this context. Sure, Takeru and Hikari had been drinking over talking about how they had not been available before, but it's just all so heartbreaking. Especially because Hikari and Daisuke in particular make it all sound so easy. "If we choose our bond, our friendship, if we believe in it, it will not vanish" just invalidates a lot of the pain that Taichi and Yamato went through in the last movie. And while I am all for a positive outlook, it still hurts not to know what the heck is going on with the others and how they experienced all of this. It makes sense for someone like Hikari, who has witnessed the loss her brother had to endure, wanting to move on, not intending to let the same happen to herself and the others, but it just feels grim without the contextualization of Kizuna's events. I believe it would not have been as bad if Taichi and Yamato had been mentioned at least once - I understand that this was probably to avoid the idea that people would have needed to watch Kizuna before watching this movie, but still.

Nobara Kugisaki: operation prove the Sensei's are dating!!!!!! (Part two)

The next day Nobara comes in guns blazing.

Her first idea is simple, see what Gojo has him listed as on his phone.

"Is that really a thing? Wow you know so much Kugisaki!!" Yuji says amazed. Nobara sighs. These boys are useless.

"Of course it's a thing! See" she showed him her contacts, every single one had an emoji beside it.

"It's common practice to have emojis or cute nicknames for your partner or at least friends! If they are dating I bet Gojo would have him in his phone as something cute."

Yuji nodded sagely. He smiled at the emoji's she had put beside his (🤩) and Fushiguro. ( 😐 ) They even looked like them.

"Why does the smiley face have hearts for eyes beside Maki Sempais?"

Nobara took her phone back.

Getting to Gojo's phone was easy. Yuji asked him what his favourite digimon series was and Nobara grabbed it off the desk. She'd remembered his code because it was the pin to his debit card. This was further information that deeply concerned Fushiguro but he tried not to think to much on it.

"Aha!!" She said scrolling through the lists and then frowning.

"Bangs." Fushiguro read.

"Bangs?!?!? What does that even mean?!?! There's no emojis or even a picture!!! All the names are just descriptive sentences. This one just says bread?!?"

"That's Nanami. He likes bread" Gojo said looming over her shoulder. Nobara shrieked nearly dropping the phone. He grabbed it smiling.

"Why do you have my phone Nobara?" He asked pocketing it swiftly.

"We..wanted to get Geto Sensei's number to ask him what he'd like as a present!" Yuji stumbled. Nobara and Megumi stared at her but then Nobara snapped her fingers.

"Because we missed his birthday! You two are super close, do you know what he likes Gojo Sensei?"

Gojo hummed rubbing his chin.

"See he's tricky, he doesn't have the delicate palate I have"

The trio frowned at that. They'd watched him devour a crepe covered in chocolate syrup that morning and deemed it a nutritional breakfast because it had a strawberry on it.

"He's also got a particular style of clothing so he's hard to shop for there. Ah! Books are always a safe bet. Find a weird book on curses or local history. No guarantee he hasn't read it already though!" He waved his hand.

"Was he always the quiet reading type?" Nobara needled further and Gojo smiled.

"Yes and no, he was always booksmart but he also got in trouble just as badly as I did. It's hilarious he's such a stickler for the rules now when he'd burst out a curse on school grounds even if I slightly annoyed him."

"So the school was overrun with curses then" Megumi said. Gojo ruffled his hair to his annoyance.

"Ah the folly of youth!" He sighed wistfully. "That's very sweet of you to get him a gift. I note I didn't receive a gift from you on my birthday"

"what are you talking about. We definitely got you a gift you just ate the Kikufuku like immediately."

Gojo laughed. "I was hoping you'd believe me and I'd get another gift ah well"

"Why do you even need a gift, you have enough money to buy the whole shop?" Megumi asked.

"Presents taste sweeter" he stated. His phone beeped and he smiled typing a message back quickly. "Speak of the devil! Don't worry your secrets safe with me! Duty calls!" He said and wandered off down the hallway.

Nobara sighed. "Even his ringtone was a standard one. Are you sure they're dating?"

Megumi nodded.

"Did you see them kissing or something?" Yuji said. Megumi went pink.

"Gojo would be a big kisser. He's constantly leaning on everyone I bet he'd be a really clingy boyfriend" Nobara said grimacing.

"No. Just it's the way they are with each other! It's not how friends are...it's deeper than that." He ran a hand through his hair deeply uncomfortable with the way Yuji was eyeing him.

"They always eat at restaurants together"

"So do you and Itadori."

"They're always in each others spaces"

Nobara waved a hand at Yuji leaving against the wall beside Megumi. Megumi took a step to the side.

"They're constantly messaging each other."

Nobara rolled her eyes. "At this rate I have more proof that you two are an item then them and that's an even more ridiculous idea."

"I don't think it's ridiculous! Anyone would be lucky to date Fushiguro!" Yuji exclaimed.

Nobara nodded. "Yeah if they like the silent brooding type but the idea of him dating you is the weird part. You never shut up!" She laughed elbowing him in the ribs as they walked down the hall.

"Well then I'll be a good boyfriend for him then like yin and Yang, I'll do all the talking!" Yuji smiled.

"You can call the waiter over when he's too shy to say his orders wrong!" Nobara and Yuji nodded in decision. Megumi was still pink in the face and apparently had no choice in the matter as he listened to the conversation in front of him, hands in his pockets.

"Anyway! Stage two!" Nobara said pushing the doors to the field outside open roughly.

"Let's observe them together and check out their ~body language~ while Geto Sensei trains the second years!" She waggled her eyebrows for extra effect and Yuji laughed and did it back to her.

Prompt - Bonding

You stared at Patamon.

Patamon stared back at you, with hope in their eyes. Patamon and you were the only people in the apartment.

Takeru had class, and your Digimon was having a sleepover with chibimon and wormmon. So it was just you and Patamon.

After a few hours of you just reading or watching TV, Patamon had come up to you asking you to do something with him.

You knew that Patamon, and the other Digimon can get fidgety when their partners aren’t near for long periods of time.

You were fine with that, you got a little fidgety when you didn’t hear your Digimon running around.

But, one thing was wrong, you and Patamon didn’t really get along. You were friends, yes, you were Takeru’s boyfriend, you had to be friends with his other partner.

But that was about it, you and Patamon were also pretty different. Patamon was laid back and fun loving, you were hyper and a little moody.

Patamon would like to go for a walk, you wanted to stay inside and watch TV. That was the problem.

You wanted to bond with Patamon, one of the best things you’ve ever seen was your Digimon and Takeru laughing about something together.

You wanted Takeru to feel that. But it was hard when you and Patamon really didn’t mix well. Like oil and water, friendly, but not mixing.

“Can we do something or talk”, Patamon asked. You looked down at the Digimon in your lap.

Patamon was leaning against your chest, his little claws holding onto your shirt.

“Yeah, but what”, you asked.

Patamon let go of your shirt and let himself fall into your lap. “I don’t know, I want to go out, and you want to stay in”, Patamon said, a claw under his chin.

You sighed and leaned back. This was a problem, right now it was a small problem but it could get bigger.

You and Patamon didn’t really have an interest in common, or something you both liked.

That was not good, especially since you were dating Takeru.

You both lived in the same apartment, and you planned on marrying Takeru, but that was something for another day.

Takeru and your Digimon got on fine, they had something in common.

They both liked reading. Takeru and your Digimon would sit at the head of the bed and read a book together.

While you and Patamon just sat together, doing your own thing.

“We don’t really have anything in common”, you said out loud. Patamon turned to look at you.

“What do you mean?” Patamon asked, making you look down at him.

“We hang out just fine”, Patamon said. You shook your head, “we can exist in the same room, even make small talk, but that’s it”, you explained.

Patamon still looked a little confused so you continued. “Takeru and D/n can do things together, and have full conversations, while we just. Sit there”, you finished your sentence with a sigh.

Patamon flew to sit on top of your head, something they did to show love.

“But that’s fine”, Patamon said, still not understanding what was making you so upset.

“I know but it makes me feel weird that I don’t have something in common with my boyfriend's other partner”, you explained further.

You felt Patamon kneed your head, another form of love. You noticed Patamon did it to Takeru when he was mad and/or sad.

“So we have to have something in common?”

Patamon asked and you nodded. Patamon flew down to sit back in your lap.

You thought for a minute. What was something you and Patamon have in common, excluding personality.

You tried to think of something, anything. Movies, books, food, games, places, people. People. A thought popped into your head and you smiled, confusing Patamon.

“I know something we have in common”, you said.

You reached into your lap and picked Patamon up. Holding them so they were face to face with you. “Takeru”, you said, making Patamon tilt his head.

“Our love for Takeru”, you said, making Patamon smile.

“I love Takeru!” Patamon yelled with a smile. “I do too”, you said. That was what you and Patamon had in common.

You both loved Takeru. You both would do anything for Takeru. You both never wanted to leave Takeru’s side.

You both smiled when he smiled, laughed when he laughed, cried when he cried. You smiled again and pulled Patamon into your chest, hugging him.

Patamon hugged you back with a smile that matched yours.

That’s when you and Patamon had in common, something that you could bond over, something that you could talk about.

Your love for Takeru.

Lucemon watched his lover scramble around their house, grabbing the things they needed to go out.

The digimon, with how powerful he was, was in a human disguise; still similar to his true form just a lot smaller- still tall by human standards, 6'6- He wore a white turtle neck, black and gold glasses and black jeans with golden seams, as well as a black jacket and white gloves. Lucemon lacked his wings and face markings aside from lipstick and a bit of purple eye shadow. He looked rather human, simple but a bit fancy.

"Are you ready now?" He questioned with a slight smile, amused, and they rushed to his side. Their arm wrapped around his as they nodded.

Finally the two were out of the house and heading towards the sidewalk. No real plans, just out to walk, explore, chat, and most importantly spend time with each other. It was a beautiful day out, the start of Summer. The sky was a bright blue and fresh greens were all around. Simple, but beautiful.

Lucemon looked down at his lover who had started talking about whatever came to mind. He listened, admiring their looks and their voice- That voice was most comforting to him. Times like these were such an odd mix of feelings. Love and bitterness. He loved his partner, he loved their world, and he loved the digital world with all of the digimon. But he still held resentment for whoever created all of this pain and violence—

"Did you ever have a partner? Not like, ya know- Like, a fighting buddy?" His eyes grew wide, snapped out of his thoughts as the question surprised him. All of what he'd been thinking had simply disappeared now. "Oh, ehm, no, I have never."

All of it could have changed but no one wanted it to change. So when I wasn't allowed to, I tried forcing it." He paused for a moment, sighing a bit.

"It only created hatred, bitterness and ignorance in me. It made it hard to get close to me, including all of the demon lords. I suppose I still have my walls up, making it difficult to trust someone as much as a partner. I only truly believed in myself and that I didn't need anyone." He had looked forward as he spoke, gaze turning hard and steely for a moment, before looking back at them. He studied their face, their emotions were hard to read aside from sadness and attentiveness.

"Do you think you'll ever have one?" They finally asked, their tone was sweet and caring. The digimon smiled in response, "Someday." He loved the thought of trusting his lover with his life as well as protecting them. His eyes were so loving it made his lover soft. "I do admit, I'm not sure how it happens or works," which was true, but it made his partner grin and laugh a bit.

Their smile got a small grin out of him in response. He kissed their cheek, "I love you," spoken so softly. "I love you too," they chirped as they continued their walk, talking the whole time.

So, the State of the Digimon Adventure canon...

So, I have a question for y'all. What the fuck is the current state of the canon of Digimon Adventure/02? I think this is a bit confusing ever since 2015 and the release of Digimon Adventure tri.

Until then it was fairly clear. Like, sure, we can discuss (as I did last week) whether movies 3 and 4 are canon or not, though in general it does not change a whole lot of about the canon, right? All in all: Yeah, the two adventures happened, and then there is the epilogue.

Now, I will openly admit. I am among the first people to criticize that epilogue. (Can you believe that this epilogue is happening in just three years? It is 2027. WTF. I am so old!) I hate that epilogue. I hate most of the jobs chosen for the kids (both for the sexism in the choices, and also in "everyone needs to be super successful - except the one stay at home mom"). I hate that everyone has kids. I hate that the kids look mostly like clones of their parents. And I don't think the "every person on the world has a digimon partner" is a good idea. However, I generally liked the idea of "more people have Digimon partners", and the "the Digimon stay with their humans" stuff.

Then of course came Digimon Adventure tri., that already did change around some stuff about this established canon. Most notably by introducing Meiko, and also the "original chosen children". While the later obviously had been referenced in Adventure before, a lot of it does not quite make sense.

More than anything, tri. very much feels like a Fanfic. Both in the way Meiko is brought in (I mean, c'mon, we all have read fanfics with OCs that were like Meiko), but also in other ways. Like the fact that the Original Chosen Children had this very random collection of Digimon partners for the most part, which happened a lot in fanfics, because most folks just did not have the time and patience to design original Digimon. But seeing this in official media was kinda... disappointing. (Just give proper evolines to the Holy Beasts, for fuck's sake.) The entire stuff with the Reboot and everything does not really fit with the established canon, though technically speaking... Based on the End State of tri., there is also not a whole lot here, that does outright contradict the ending of 02. If anything the beginning of tri., that sees the Digimon separated from the kids, is the bigger issue here, really. And of course the fact that nobody fucking wastes a thought on the 02 kids, which just seems so OoC. But yeah. It is still very isolated and because of that... is not that big of an issue.

I have never made a secret of my distaste for tri. As I said, to me it is a rather bad fanfic that got made into a movie through some miraculous circumstance. It is frustrating, but... Yeah, it does not really go to change the end state of the canon.

Then however we have the two other movies. KIZUNA and THE BEGINNING. Now, compared with tri. I like those a whole lot more. I actually had a lot of fun watching them in the cinema, and I kinda do adore them.

But these movies very much change the pre-established canon.

KIZUNA does this by saying: "Yeah, actually, once you are an adult, you will have to say good-bye to your Digimon partner."

THE BEGINNING meanwhile contradicts the established canon through: "... You guys? I think every person getting a Digimon partner is actually a really bad idea, isn't it?" (And of course also by retconning pretty much everything that was prior established about the Homeostasis.)

The ironic thing about those movies is, that it is not even clear how they relate to each other in terms of canonicity. Is tri. canon to KIZUNA? Is KIZUNA canon to THE BEGINNING? It is very vague how those movies relate to one another.

And honestly... I am mostly very confused of how we are supposed to read those movies in relation to canon.

Mind you, Japanese fandom culture generally relates differently to canonicity than western culture. Western culture tends to focus a lot more on what is canon and what is not. Japanese fandom culture just does not seem to focus that much on it - though then again, I never much interacted with Japanese fanfiction writers, who were not also very active in western fandom circles.

I mean, to me personally: While I like the two theatrical movies quite a lot, I will always ignore them in terms of canon. Like, I am sorry. I had 15 years to come up with headcanons to fill out that time, so this questionable canon comes much too late.

I will however also remain steadfast in ignoring the epilogue, because... as I said, I personally hate it.

Still, I really do wonder, whether Toei has some opinion on what is canon and what is not. Or do they simply not mind either way?

We know there is gonna be something new in January next year. And a part of me fears that this will be yet another Digimon Adventure related project. *sighs* (Just give me a new anime.)

Issues I had with Meiko's writing (coming from a former fan of Meiko)

One of the things I disliked while watching the Digimon Adventure Tri movies is that Meiko (the new character for the films) took WAY more focus than the original 8 Digidestined/chosen children. Unfortunately, as well as the burning answer on what happened to the Zero 2 kids (Daisuke/Davis, Miyako/Yolei, Ken, and Iori/Cody) by having Tri’s entire plot ignore their existence until the end of the movie series.

This could be my issue, but I dislike it when a character archetype is known for ONLY being shy. I am shy myself, so my problems don't come from just having that mere personality trait, but having that as a character's ONLY defining trait makes the character dull to watch.

Also, while watching the movies, Meiko felt like someone's fanfic oc AT TIMES when all the characters they interact with adore and love her very much, and she and her Digimon partner are extraordinary throughout the plot's run. There’s nothing wrong with characters that are often well-liked. Still, when it gets to a point where any criticism thrown at Meiko or the situation involving her Digimon occurs, she isn’t given the grace to defend herself. Instead, we have other characters speak up for her (ex: being when Mimi confronted Koushiro, who, although on his part, came off as being too harsh when telling Meiko he needed her intel on looking for the source of the virus affecting her Digimon). In Digimon Movie 2, we saw Mimi learning a lot from her friendship with Meiko (which was excellent). But it's a missed opportunity for Toei not to have the reverse happen and see Mimi's influence impact Meiko.

However, at the same time, why can’t Meiko (as someone who represented a lot of shy people) not be allowed to step outside the character mold that Toei made for her?

Again, when I first watched the Tri movies, I would have gotten defensive at the hate Meiko received because I assumed people were just hating her for her personality. Now, looking back at the movies, I understand some of the alarming issues with her writing.

I feel like she was only made as a character just so the writers could give Taichi a love interest and further establish that the 02 epilogue is still, in fact, canon. Even then, the two of them lacked any chemistry.

I should probably clarify that I don’t hate Meiko as a character, but what has done for her character through Tri. These are just a few critical things that I had about how the writers tried to make her feel more like a self-inserted character (at times) by having all the characters around her adore her and try to make the character lack flaws. They also made it feel like she was only introduced for romance.

I'll have a much different angle of this discussion with more about the difference in writing for what Toei has done to her versus the perception of the 02 kids later

Hmm it’s been a while since I care much about romantic relationships (yes, I see the irony of me, a primarily fluff writer, saying that) but there are some memorable ones that I still love for their dynamic. These are the 5 that I can really remember at the top of my head, I’m sure there’s are many iconic ones but these are just my personal “couple goals” people

1. Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye from Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist Brother (manga, anime)

Soulmates, More than Lovers

Yes, there is Edward and Winry and they’re great too but Roy and Riza, even when they weren’t officially canon? Oh wow, I absolutely idolised their dynamic growing up. They have to maintain a professional relationship as officer and superior but everyone can tell that they care so much about each other. It’s the trust between, it’s the way they understood each other so much and the faith they have of their partner’s competence. They bicker and annoy each other like old comrades but their bond goes beyond being brothers-in-arms, it’s the way they support each other knowing that they both wish for a world where no one has to go through what they did again. Riza believed in Roy not just because she cared about him but also because she truly believes in him making good on his word in building a better government, and Roy believed in Riza because of her integrity, that he knew she will never be swayed and keep him in track of his dream because that’s just the amazing person she was.

2. Sawako Kuronuma and Shota Kazehaya from Kimi ni Todoke (manga, anime, live-action film)

Friends to Lovers

While romcoms aren’t really my thing, this series was my favorite romcom growing up that I still remember it pretty well after all these years. No hate to the other shoujo animes but Kazehaya was the greenest flag and I can’t be convinced otherwise. He was genuinely kind to everyone, didn’t believe in the crazy rumours and saw Sawako as the sweet person she was, and be that supporting friend to her even when he could tell he had feelings for her. Kazehaya had better emotional awareness and understood how he felt pretty early in the series but never pushed the topic on Sawako when she was still new to a lot of social experiences. Sawako was aware of all the support he has given her and in response, worked hard to make sure his efforts weren’t wasted. It was cute, supportive, and the results felt so deserved and not abrupt.

3. Takeru Takahashi and Hikari Yagami from Digimon (anime)

Will they, won’t they, Childhood friends

I’ve been shipping even before I knew what shipping was. I didn’t know why I love them so much growing. Maybe because I really like the aesthetics, maybe because I’m a sucker for childhood friends, maybe because of all the connections of the crest of hope and light. I thought I grew out of this shipping phrase but nope! I went crazy over the crumbs we get from Digimon Tri. They are such a “Will they, won’t they” duo. I can see them work so well as friends as they do as a couple. They tease each other and are so comfortable together but they are always there for each other when either one of them goes through something.

4. Nomoto and Kasuga from She Loves to Cook, She Loves to Eat

Neighbours to ???

This is a fairly new series in comparison to everything else on the list, but I do love the characters of this series. Not only are the main duo relatable as individuals, they found support in each other. This is a personal plus, but watching Nomoto learning she’s an ace lesbian growing these sweet, wholesome feelings for her neighbour makes the dynamic stand out to me more since this helps show to whatever naysayers that believes that the feeding food part of the story is a kink play of theirs. Like dudes…what? It’s really nice to watch two realistic individuals in a grounded relationship (whatever it is at this point), while going through some heavy topics about societal standards.

5. Seo Dan and Seung Jun from Crash Landing on You (Kdrama)

Villainess x Conman

Seeing that Seo Dan was in the position to be the villainess because she was the second female lead and the male lead’s arranged fiance, everyone would think that she would be evil like all the other second leads in Kdramas, but NO! Seo Dan never outright harm the female lead but instead tried to spend time and win over the man that was her fiance. When she realized she couldn’t and her love is turning toxic, she chose not to continue the path of unrequited love and move on, even though it hurt her because she truly loved the male lead, her first love. Seung Jun was in a somewhat similar villain position being a close-hearted conman who’s not the type to stay for anyone. But he starts to fall for Seo Dan, and hated seeing her break because of a man who couldn’t see how amazing she was. This made me tear up to see that Seo Dan found someone that truly love her, and that Seung Jun found someone who he could truly cherish with all his heart. They got to be the realest and best versions of themselves with each other and were a couple that met the right person, there were just some mistakes to realize it.

For reference on what inspired me asking, I was talking with a friend who hasn't watched digimon about the concerning amount I draw Kiyoshiro and said "well, to be fair I think he's the most popular character in the show" and then later that night I was second guessing myself.

Turns out (based on the small sample size here) I was right!

I totally thought Gulus would sweep here, past that I wasn't sure how the ranks would fall since Kiyoshiro and the digimon partners are all pretty popular

Although maybe it was unfair of me to split up Gamma and Gulus?

I still think Gulus is probably the most popular in reality but I'm taking my boy's win and running with it

Very sad seeing so little love for Ruli (and Angoramon) but I can't say I don't see where it comes from. I only watched GG though once but from what I remember they did Ruli dirty, didn't really give her a lot of development or screen time. She could've been such a strong fem lead but they just SLEPT.

…….. except not really because as you grow closer to him you soon come to realize that he’s a loser. a silly little loser guy. absolutely infuriating. the type who trips you up in public and calls you cheesy petnames in front of your friends just to embarrass you. and he’s clingy. whiney. will make himself cry if that’s what he needs to convince you to stay home with him instead of going to work like he’s soooo ridiculous?? also eats out of his childhood digimon bowl even though he’s pushing 30 and forces you to watch the first three seasons with him (he literally will Not let you leave or even look away because he needs to see your reaction to every single scene)….. makes you handfeed him treats and nips at your fingertips. tickles you if you’re angry at him which makes you way angrier but he thinks it’s hot so he just continues.

and then shoko …….. when you meet shoko your immediate thought is like . okay hi mommy <33 we all know it’s true so let’s not lie. to put it simply she just has bad bitch energy — all laid-back and mysterious, cuffed sleeves and loose cigarettes and murky eyes that see right through you but never stare too intently. and she’s nice, you know? just has that allure about her. she’s so easy to talk to, so easy to fall in love with. just reels you in so effortlessly — and suddenly you have the hottest girlfriend on the planet and you’re scared because what if you’re not good enough?? what if she gets bored of you????? it makes you nervous. shoko is just so cool, you know?

….. buuuut then you start dating her and find out that she’s a wreck. <3 uses the same coffee mug over and over without washing it, wears dirty boxers around the house, can’t cook to save her life, will try to make out with you while you’re studying and apparently purposefully lit her cigarette in a really sexy way when you first met just to impress you. she tells you as much when she’s a little tipsy, clinging to your back like a koala and giggling sheepishly. <3 similar to satoru in that she can and will manipulate you into sleeping in with her. don’t let her fool you — she’s just as silly and teasing as her counterparts. it just so happens that she’s a woman so i would let her get away with literally anything no matter how heinous you can’t stay mad at her because she’ll pout and frown oh so sadly and you know she’s tricking you but how are you supposed to stay mad at your little baby?? :(( yeah. she knows you’re whipped and she uses it against you all the time.

and suguru ….. arguably has the greatest whiplash factor of them all. you meet him and you’re instantly smitten — there’s really no other option. you can’t help but fall for him. a handsome, brooding, mysterious guy, with his leather jacket and piercings and keen eyes, and all of it just pulls you in….. but then he’s also such a nice guy? it doesn’t feel forced, either. it feels genuine — he puts you at ease, always listens to what you have to say, so patient and grounding. so intelligent, passionate, so good at making you fall even deeper in love. sugu is a different kind of people magnet than satoru; you’re stuck in his orbit before you even knew what hit you, because how could you not love someone like him? his charm in lethal.

like. flaws aside…. suguru just cares so much. he cares more about you than he cares about himself. once he’s truly let you in, into his life and into his mind and into everything he hides from the rest of the world — he’s never falling out of love with you. it’s simply not an option in his mind. you’ve earned a place in his heart and it never even shrinks, just keeps extending and extending until he feels a little lightheaded with bliss. because you understand him, you accept him, and he’s just so eager to return that loves tenfold. he cooks, he cleans, he holds you and listens to your soft breathing when he can’t seem to calm down. he orbits around you like the moon to the earth. he is just so, so soft for you. would do anything to keep you safe. wants to be your safe space so badly that he’ll rearrange his ribs to make it more comfortable for you. always looking at you, making sure you’re comfortable, asking if there’s anything else he can do for you. you’re his baby, and he lives to tend to you. it makes him happy. :)

So, I’ve had musings about Meiko in the sense what if her appearance in Kizuna is just a different timeline Meiko? Yamato shouts Mochizuki and in the novel it just states they met her in high school. I would think there would be a slightly more description to that from what happened in tri. …

Like instead of tri., it’s just a light hearted 2 hour movie. Or maybe a short series of 12 episodes. I imagined it happening at Yamato’s concert (sorry Yamato) and an incident would occur that introduces her character initially. She doesn’t have to be from Tottori, doesn’t have to just randomly Transfer in. Just already goes to high school with Yamato and Taichi and them. It would still introduce her as a student they already knew. But didnn’t know she was already a chosen with a partner. Mysterious man can still exist, causing some. Chaos. Just not, a, uh creep. Maki and Daigo’s plot still there. But maybe just not as extreme “lets’ shove some kids into a Tube and reset the digital world” way.

I had originally thought about just what if it’s i just one movie. It’s Yamato

-Takeru, Hikari, and Sora are there to watch.

-Miyako is there for sound mixing.

-Iori is there to help her out.

-Taichi is stuck at after school cram school with Nishijima.

-Koushirou is with his parents celebrating his parents anniversary

-Daisuke and Ken are in New York visiting Mimi.

-Jou is studying, no one wanted to bother him.

-Maki appears with fake Gennai when they attack the concert

Meiko and Meicoomon end up interrupting the concert because a big DIgimon is chasing them.

All their Digimon are with the Chosen and they jump into action to minimize the injuries to other concert goers and evacuating.

I hadn’t put a lot of thought into what happens inbetween. But I imagine that during the chaos of it all, Hikari tries contacting Taichi to let him know what’s going on

But he had his phone off, and at the end Daisuke, Ken, and Mimi come in on Imperialdramon and Daisuke is just like “Don’t worry, Hikari! I’m here to save you!” All dramatic. But they were never in that much danger and he’s just being overdramatic lol. I imagine Koushirou would appear at some point, seeing the commotion on the news or hearing about it.

Taichi and Daigo come in and is wondering if everyone is all right. To everyone’s bewilderment, Daigo runs over to Maki during the battle, begging her to stop. They have a little back and forth about their partners. Daigo knows she must be suffering lost her partner, but his partner lost his memories. So he in a way lost his partner too.

But I really hadn’t thought about everything else inbetween, like how Meiko’s story would come in. How much would still include the whole corrupted data? Apocalymon? Partner dissolution from fake Gennai would work well. I just don’t know how to incorporate it differently and how to resolve it .

That’s the only thing that makes me go “would this have been better as a few episodes than a movie?”

I wouldn’t kill of Meicoomon. Just doesn’t make sense. I’ve always felt Meiko’s voice finally reaching her partner to show the strength of being partners and FRIENDSHIP would be a better end.

Since Maki also could feel that despair of “was a partnership that precious if my partner will never return to me?”

Ken and Hikari reassuring that one day they will return to them and not to lose hope. It’s still very much Digimon coded in that sense…

I honestly don't know much about Meiko and Meicoomon (Haven't yet watched Tri.) but I will do my best

Everyone would probably be very fairly terrified at first, since it sounds like they've been dealing with mostly hostile zombified digimon before

But, after things are explained and calmed down, there would be some other happy reunions. I'm sure Kari and Gatomon missed Wizardmon

Though, he won't let them touch him. 1, he stinks like the dead. 2, due to the memory problems, he doesn't fully recall them at first. They have to give him space to recover first.

Izzy has already been studying Meicoomon and now he's got a new subject to study. If Wizardmon and his tamer allow him to, at least. It would help them figure out a cure faster at least. Tentomon has been asking some general questions to try and help

Joe also checks on Wizardmon, trying to see how he feels, how he's functioning - Digimon Doctor, after all. He did the same for Meicoomon before. Just making sure that he's alright after being basically resurrected. Gomamon is just trying to lighten up the mood and crack jokes

Tai and Agumon are glad for the help! Tai hasn't let Agumon fight a lot, mostly out of worry of him getting infected. So, having someone who can't be infected (even if it's because they're already infected) fighting with them is really good

Matt is a little wary, just at first though. He was the same with Meicoomon, but Gabumon is trying to help convince him. He is glad for the help.

Mimi and Palmon try to repair Wizardmon's clothes. They don't approach him mostly because of uneasiness about his appearance, but that doesn't mean that he's not their friend. So they help in their own way

Meiko is kind of relieved that someone else also has a friendly, if not zombified, partner digimon. She's not alone in it and Meicoomon has someone that she doesn't have to worry about hurting

TK and Sora are missing. Why? Mostly because I had no ideas for them in this, but also because I think it's interesting if they're not all together

Digimon Writing Challenge - Mix and Match: Koushirou + Agumon + Friendship

Summary: After defeating Mugendramon, Taichi's group, finally reunited, gets to have some well-deserved rest - but Koushirou simply can't seem to fall asleep, overthinking his previous quarrels with Taichi and whether or not he had gone too far by calling him out. Koromon, however, leaves him a piece of mind in this regard...

Koushirou Izumi had always thought of himself as a person capable of controlling his emotions – at least up until the moment he and his camp companions had been thrown into a completely different world.

At some point, he had just stopped keeping track of the number of emergencies, near-death experiences and conflicts. Especially now that the fate of both the Digital and Real World rested on their shoulders, depending on them to beat the Dark Masters, it was tough to clearly remember all their adventures.

However, today had been a new first for Koushirou. This was precisely why he hadn’t been able to fall asleep yet, deep at night at a safe space Andromon had found for them, surrounded by the remnants of greyish debris and with a heavy heart pounding in his chest.

Never before had he opposed Taichi in that manner. Sure, he had disagreed with him on various occasions, had tried to hold him back whenever he did something reckless.

But never before had they gotten into an argument like this. Not really a fight, only close to a punch that was meant to cover up their whereabouts and yet… After everything Koushirou had heard, after everything Taichi had confessed to him, about his past, why he had acted as irritating as before…

It reminded him of his parents, all the suffering they must have gone through. Not even considering his own suffering at this point, because Taichi’s turmoil was all he could think about right now.

“What were you thinking?!”

“It’s my fault, I need to take care of her.”

“If you understand, quit ordering me around!”

Koushirou had tried to soothe him. To help him to take better care of himself. He had raised his voice – and even if he was aware that he had been objectively right to tell him to take a break, he now felt like he had disrespected him. Angered him. And although Taichi had apologized for his behaviour afterwards… It hurt.

And now he couldn’t sleep, dealing with a stubborn sense of guilt in his chest. What if he had permanently damaged their bond? What if Taichi would treat him differently from now on? All he could do was watching Taichi’s back next to him, who, just like Sora, Piyomon, Takeru and Patamon, was fast asleep, cuddled closely to Hikari, Tailmon and…

“Nyaaaaaargh… Koushirou?”

He hadn’t noticed Koromon moving and now, after a biiiiig yawn, the pink blob was sitting right in front of him, ogling him with his big red eyes.

“You’re still awake too? I assumed you would be out for at least a few more hours after defeating Mugendramon”, Koushirou whispered in response, only now noticing the huge scratch on the Digimon’s forehead he obtained by slicing up Mugendramon into a million pieces.

“No worries”, the little monster shook its entire body. “Hikari’s light made me feel all warm and fuzzy, so I didn’t lose that much energy, hehe! Tentomon’s more exhausted though, huh?”

They both turned around towards Tentomon, who had curled up into a ball right next to his human partner, guarding his laptop while snoring quietly and peacefully – which actually made Koushirou smile for the first time in hours. At least he was getting the rest he deserved.

“Did you want something in particular?”, Koushirou finally asked while getting up into a sitting position – only for Koromon to jump right into his lap.

“Mhmh! I wanted to thank you for keeping an eye on Taichi! I wasn’t able to stop him earlier and… By now I know that he does everything he does to protect everyone around him, so… He needs to understand that he has friends to protect him too! That he is not alone!”

Hearing all that, Koushirou just glanced back to Taichi’s backside. It was almost like Koromon had summarized his own thoughts perfectly, even if it still left a small pounding behind.

“Friends to protect him too…”

“I was a bit startled when you two almost punched each other, but… I guess that’s what friends need to do sometimes?” The Digimon looked lost in thought for a moment and Koushirou was certain that Yamato had just come to his mind. Understandably so, as both Taichi and Yamato seemed to be more physical when it came to bringing their points across. “He seemed a lot calmer afterwards, so you did the right thing! He was really sorry too, he didn’t mean to hurt you, so please forgive him, okay?”

Caught off guard once again, Koushirou blinked. Was it really that easy? Did Taichi maybe feel like he could be more physical with him too because they were… Friends?

“I’ve… Forgiven him immediately, Koromon, please do not worry yourself. But… Are you sure?”

“Huh? About what?” Koromon mirrored the blinking. “You’re always taking care of each other and you always help Taichi like only a true friend does! Using your laptop, figuring out places and routes and mysteries when he doesn’t know what to do… I know you care about each other a lot, so… Please make sure Taichi always sees that he can rely on you, okay? He has me, he has everyone, but he needs to know it too.”

Maybe it really was that easy. Maybe he needed to stop overthinking. And maybe their friendship had become much stronger than he had given it credit for – even if it took Taichi’s monster soulmate to help him to realize it.

Despite the pain he had felt, he hadn’t picked the wrong path. And he would continue to stay by Taichi’s side, even if it meant calling him out, bringing him back on track. Like a true friend would.

So I have some thoughts about Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning. There will be spoilers.

Overall I enjoyed myself, though it wasn't nearly as good as Last Evolution Kizuna. And that's kind of my first gripe about the movie. The new Adventure universe entries all feel disconnected from each other. 02 was very obviously a sequel to Adventure, as was Tri, but you don't need to watch Tri to understand Kizuna and you don't need to watch Tri or Kizuna to understand The Beginning. I would like more consistency and following up on plot points. The whole central plot of Kizuna, that Digimon partnerships are temporary and will eventually end, was not present in this movie at all. This movie also brings up several concepts without following through on them. It also felt rushed compared to Kizuna. I think expanding the run time to 2 hours instead of the 1.5 hrs we got would have benefitted the movie greatly by fleshing out the characters of Lui and Ukkamon, giving their story more of a resolution, and addressing the unanswered questions. Specifically I want to know who the great being Ukkamon gets his powers from is and what's up with that very disturbing giant form it took. The movie also didn't really give a lot of the 02 cast much to do. This is very much the Lui and Ukkamon movie, guest-starring the 02 cast. I think what I want out of a 02 follow up is resolution on some of the hanging plot threads (the dark ocean in particular) and more character development to see how the kids we see in 02 will become the adults we see in the epilogue. And evolutions for SIlphymon and Shakkoumon.

I am definitely enjoying the continuation of the Adventure universe, but I am annoyed by the fact that each new entry ends with sequel hooks and dangling plot threads that the next entry does not address. Things we still don't know include (from Tri) who evil Gennai was and what his goals are, what happened to the original chosen children besides Daigo and Maki, and what are all the resurrected villains from the reboot doing, and (from Kizuna) how the partners that vanished will come back in time for the 02 epilogue. I think these are all great points that can be followed up on for good stories. Have a confrontation with evil Gennai, tell a story about Taichi/Tai and Yamato/Matt bringing back Agumon and Gabumon. I'm also not sure how Ukkamon trying to give everyone in the world a Digimon partner to make them happy squares with Kizuna saying that all Digimon partnerships will eventually end. That's another great opportunity to tell a story connecting the two. Maybe Ukkamon isn't as powerful as he thinks and can't make permanent bonds, maybe Ukkamon is too short-sighted to see the consequences of his actions, maybe someone else (evil Gennai or the dark ocean perhaps) is manipulating Ukkamon for their own goals. Maybe you could tie Tri and 02 together ore by letting the reboot from Tri bring back characters like BlackWarGreymon and Oikawa.

Ukkamon's power to grant wishes is another thing I think deserves more attention. The most obvious answer I think is that Ukkamon's power comes from the world of dreams seen in the end of 02. However the very dark (though seemingly innocent) way he grants Lui's wishes and the very Lovecraftian transformation he goes through gives me dark ocean vibes. My personal theory is that Ukkamon is an innocent creature related to the world of dreams that is being corrupted by the dark ocean or that he is some halfway point between the two worlds (they are implied to be counterparts, the world of dreams representing good dreams and the dark ocean representing nightmares). Again, this is very good potential for storytelling. I guess what I'm saying is: fanfic writers, start your engines.

I saw some people saying that this movie retconned Tri and the 02 epilogue. I did not get that impression at all. I think the only thing that would have to change about Tri is that the adventures of Daigo, Maki and co would have to take places closer to the original series than what was shone in that series. The epilogue is still perfectly viable as a conclusion to what we see in the movie. We even see the characters beginning to work toward the careers they have in the epilogue and a tease to the start of the Miyako/Yolei x Ken relationship. I'm in favor of this. I can definitely see why a lot of people want Tri and the epilogue decanonized, but I think that 9 times out of 10 it's better to take something that didn't work and build new, better stories on it than to just retcon it away.

Stuff I like about this movie. The action is visually impressive and the animation in general is excellent. I like Miyako/Yolei getting more to do since she was definitely the most underutilized in 02 (though Iori/Cody got the shaft this time around). I like the movie showing more of how the characters got to where they were in the epilogue. I like the cameos from the international chosen children and shots showing the beginning of a new generation of chosen. The emotional core of the story, though a bit rushed, was strong. The ending showing that even without digivices, the bond between human and Digimon is strong enough to stay was heartwarming and a very nice aversion to this franchise always trying to cram in a tragic ending to its stories. And that one scene (if you saw the movie you know which one I'm talking about) was scarier then anything we got in the entirety of Ghost Game and Survive. Overall, it was a good movie, I just wish it could have done just a bit more.
