That is the worst possible scenario for her, basically.

Mr Collins's living with regard to Hunsford only lasts for the duration of his life, so she gets nothing from it. Unless her child (she's implied to be pregnant at the end of P&P) is a son and, iirc, falls within a set number of generations as laid out by the original entailment, she also gets nothing with regard to Longbourn (and if the child is a girl, she now has another dependent to worry about and provide for; I think Mr Bennet's daughters would receive preference over Charlotte's if Mr Collins never inherits and there's no son).

There would have been legal documents accompanying their betrothal that laid out exactly how much property or money Charlotte and her potential children would receive during and after the marriage (this is what is meant by references to pin money and jointure; pin money is what the woman will regularly receive for her private expenses during the marriage, and jointure is what she gets if she survives her husband). There's a straightforward example of this with Mr and Mrs Bennet, for instance.

Mrs Bennet brought a dowry of four thousand pounds to the marriage. Mr Bennet or his family settled an additional one thousand pounds on her at the time (23 years earlier). So there's five thousand pounds attached to Mrs Bennet and her children specifically that is essentially secure—the income from it can only go to her or her children. Since her children are all daughters, however, this pretty much automatically includes her daughters' husbands as well, since women were legally and financially subsumed into their husbands' identities upon marriage and it took some legal shenanigans to protect their resources. Lydia's share of Mrs Bennet's fortune, one thousand pounds, effectively goes to Wickham as part of the marriage arrangements, and it's not clear if Lydia's money is legally secured to her in the same way since it was part of bribing Wickham to marry her at all.

(Tangent: a lot of analysis tends to assume that income from a lump sum of this kind would generate an income of 5% of the principal via low-risk, low-reward government investments. Mr Collins himself explicitly estimates that Elizabeth's portion of Mrs Bennet's settlement would generate an income at a 4% rate, leaving her with a mere 40 pounds a-year. This might seem Mr Collins-style negging, but in reality these kinds of safe government investments could and did drop to rates closer to 3% due to various economic upheavals at the time.)

Returning to Charlotte's situation, eighteenth-century advice urged men (even much less affluent men) to set aside a significant portion of their incomes every year to add to what was settled on their wives/children, so that if they died, their children and widows would have more to live on. The original settlement, as in Mrs Bennet's case, could be pretty small, especially for multiple people to live on. Y/n is failing Math.

If one thing if for certain, it’s definitely that Y/n is failing math. Every test has received negative feedback from her teacher, the most marks she’s ever received on a test is five. I mean it’s not her fault she’s too invested with her other subjects to focus on her math work. Don’t even bother questioning her about math, she will completely mind blank everything she’s learnt.

You sling your bag over your shoulder as you trudge out of your math class, the paper with your predicted grade in your hands. Grade 1. In no way are you passing that course. You sigh and fold the paper, putting it into your back pocket.

An arm is thrown around your shoulder causing you to jump and turn your head towards the body of the arm, rolling your eyes as you sees your best friend, Violet. You shove the arm off your shoulder and fully put the bag on your shoulders.

“Ouch, someone is angsty about their predicted grade.” Vi teases as she shoves her hands into her hoodie pocket, a smirk over her face, “Speaking of…what is your predicted grade?”

You can already hear the laughter once you tell her, so to avoid that you decide not to answer the question, “What lesson is next? Biology, right?”

Vi purses her lips as you dodge her question, she decides to let it slip and nods her head at your words, “Yeah. A class that you are going to pass, right?” She chuckles at her own words and nudges your shoulder.

Groaning your push open the stair door aggressively, pausing when you hear a thud from behind it. You glance at Vi before peaking around the door and finding a brunette with short hair sat on the floor with her things scattered everywhere.

“That’s your problem.” Vi pats your shoulder and quickly walks away from you, walking up the stairs two at a time to avoid being pulled back into the situation.

You curse gently under your breath and crouch down to help pick up the papers, you look back at her and freeze at how beautiful she is. You meet her blue eyes and your cheeks begin to heat up as you begin to spur out words, “I’m so sorry- I didn’t realise you were- fuck.”

She watches with a raised brow as you stumble over your words. You scratch above your right eyebrow and slowly close your mouth as you realise she’s just watched you speak utter nonsense, not to help the fact she looks rich, too rich to be going public school.

“Are you done?”

Fuck, she sounds rich as well. Your day just couldn’t get any better could it. You nods your head at her question, awkwardly passing the papers back to her.

“Are- Are you new? I’ve never seen you before.” You ask as you try and scan her face for any familiarity in it, finding none. She must be new, right? You know nearly everyone in the college.

“No? I’m in your math class, i’ve been here since you’ve joined.” She gently takes the papers from you and adds it to the top of the pile in her hands.

The beautiful, rich woman stood in front of you is in your math class…meaning she’s seen you fail to answer the simplest of questions about algebra? Embarrassment may as well have been stood in front of you.

“Oh.” You hum and nod your head, you turn your head away from her and lick your lips. She nods as well with a soft smile on her face.

COULD SHE GET ANY MORE BEAUTIFUL? You swear your heart is beating out of your chest at this point. You awkwardly gesture towards the stairs and smile.

“Uh, biology.” You say and begin to walk towards the stairs, watching as she furrows her eyebrows and opens the door shaking her head as she walks down the corridor to her next lesson.

What was her name? Never mind that, you’re going to be late to your lesson if you don’t make it in the next 5 minutes.

You quickly sprint up the stairs and rush down the corridor, stopping in front of your classroom and pushing open the door and sitting in your seat next to Vi and her girlfriend.

“Here she is, surprisingly not late to lesson.” The redheaded girl next to you, scans your appearance and chuckles as she sees the flushed cheeks, realising you had to run up the stairs.

“I- whatever.” You dismiss her words and begin to write into your book, ignoring the chattering from the couple sat next to you.

Sitting down at the lunch table you take a bite of your pizza as you cringe at the couple in front of you, tongues practically down each other’s throats.

“This is a public space if you didn’t know.” You interrupt them, watching as they pull away from each other, your eyes squeezing shut as you watch Caitlyn stand up from Vi’s lap to make it worse.

“You’re just mad.” Vi states as she bites her sandwich, amused by your disgusted face. You open your eyes and look at her with furrowed eyebrows.

“No, i’m not. It’s just that I have the decency to not tongue, dry hump, or do any form of PDA in public. But clearly you don’t care.” You mumble your last words and take a bite of your pizza as you list what you’ve witnessed them do.

Caitlyn’s cheeks begin to flush at your words as Vi laughs and flicks a piece of bread at your face, “For the love of- grow up.” Caitlyn scolds her girlfriend and rolls her eyes, taking a bite of her own food.

“Pfft, like a puppy.” You chuckle as Vi immediately listens to her girlfriend, laughing harder as her head turns towards you with a scowl.

Vi’s debating whether to throw her sandwich at your face or threaten your existence on earth. She goes with the latter.

“Well a puppy wouldn’t be able to rip off your limbs slowly and painfully, then put it in a blender, cook up a nice patty and serve it to people, would it?” She snarls.

Your mouth slowly drops open at her words and you glance towards Caitlyn who looks equally as shocked as you do, the forkful of salad hovering just in front of her mouth. You quickly look down, the cheese pizza looking more interesting than before. Was cheese always that colour?

The few minutes of awkward silence are interrupted when the clacking of heels are heard from behind you, almost sounding like it’s coming towards-

“Y/n.” You jump and quickly turn around, coming face to face with your math teacher. You smile at her and open your mouth to speak before the words are caught in your throat as you catch sight of the brunette from before.

“This is Cassandra, she’s going to tutor you. Hopefully that grade of yours will improve with her.” She tells you with a smile on her face.

Oh no. No, no, no this was bad. This was really bad. The woman who you can barely even speak properly to will be tutoring you? Meaning more time spent together. Your brain short circuits and you catch yourself glancing at the brunette.

“Ye- Yeah thats great, i hope so too.” You chuckle and give a thumbs up, your jaw clenching as you can hear snickers coming from behind you.

Deciding to ignore it you grab the paper from your teacher and check the tutoring schedule.

“Friday, six till seven. Seems little Y/n over here has a tutoring session with her little crush tonight.” Vi teases as she speaks to Caitlyn, hearing her giggle you grab the paper back from her and fold it, tucking it into your pocket.

“It’s not a crush, God. Get a grip. Both of you.” You scold them before picking up your pizza and finishing it, shaking your head at the sound of them chuckling.

Opening the library doors, you smile at the lady sat at the front desk and walk further into the building. Your eyes catch sight of the brunette sat at a desk with papers and textbooks around her, a wince forms on your face as you walk over to her.

Pulling out the chair in front of her and sitting down you begin to chew on your bottom lip, “Sorry about this, I didn’t expect her to sign me up for tutoring.” You apologise as you scratch the back of your neck.

Cassandra waves you off and passes you an empty notebook, “It’s fine, don’t worry. Is it fine if we start with the Quadratic Formula? Most pupils tend to struggle on that one.” She questioned, her eyes flickering to your eyes as she opens the textbook.

You nod at her words and open the notebook, ready to write down whatever she tells you to, obviously the first thing to write was the equation.

“The first thing that would be best to write down the formula, which is; Minus b, Plus–minus sign, square root, b squared, Minus four ac, over two a.” She explains as she watches you scribble it down into your notebook.

“The formula is usually given to us when we have something that resembles,” She stops to write something down on a piece of paper, turning it around to face you.

“Have you ever been told how much i hate algebra?” You stare at her questioningly, watching as she giggles a little at your words.

“I know Y/n, but Miss wants you to pass her class. So you better start liking it or else these tutor lessons will be useless.” Cassandra softly replied, before she leans down to scribble an example question on the paper.

God how can someone look so gorgeous whilst explaining math? You watch as she explains how to but the numbers into the formula, but one word is in through one ear and out the other.

The way her blue eyes sparkle as she explains about the mathematical equation, how her short brunette hair shines in the light in the corner of the library, how she speaks with so much confidence, not fearing of saying something wrong, god you could just ki-

“Are you even listening to me?” She blinked at you.

“Huh? Yeah of course i am!” Your eyes widen as she questions your attention towards the math equation.

“What did i just say then? Hm? If you were listening to me.” She raised a brow as she waits for a response from you, obviously knowing that you don’t know the answer.

Your mouth opens to speak before it closes, and you tap your finger against the table, “Look…how about we just let me fail math? We know that’s the inevitable outcome for me.” You stop tapping on the table and jump as you feel a hand on yours.

“I want you to pass as much as miss does, clearly you have some sort of attention problems. So would it be better if i incorporated some sort of games or rewards into my tutoring sessions?” She observes your reaction to her words, chuckling as she’s very clearly caught your attention.

“That would be great, thanks.” The alarm for the end of the session rings on her phone, causing the pair of you to jump.

You help her pack up the textbooks and papers, walking out of the library with her. Stopping outside the library doors and fidgeting with your fingers.

“See you on Monday?” You ask, looking at her and hoping she says yes.

“Of course, Y/n.” She gives you one last smile before turning and walking away from you, leaving you stood there wanting to know more about the woman.

Narcissists are a special breed of people. Concerned about themselves and how they look. Charismatic and welcoming to the outside world. But to their inner circles? Their families? They see the hidden truth.

Having one as a parent is a specific kind of hell. It's underhanded comments and insults masked with laughter like it's a joke. It's always having your privacy invaded to make sure you aren't getting any ideas or talking about them in a negative light.

It's giving up on fighting because it's easier to just do what they say, to give up any semblance of control over your own life. Always being exhausted because you're either arguing or watching any kind of hope for life you had wither away.

The optimal thing to do is try and tell someone, but nobody believes because they can't see the evidence. They don't see the way her mom dresses her up like a doll or the comments whispered in her ear. They don't know that behind the closed bathroom door, her mother pokes and tugs at her skin and forces her to watch in the mirror. They don't know the control it takes to make herself not eat from such a tender age. Always trying to fit into the clothes that are too small for her. Purposely purchased that way.

She learns to love the compliments when her mother gives them. As her body whittles away into nothingness.

She meets Oscar while in a fragile state. Dolled up for some fancy dinner she's attending with her mother. Some kind of business thing with McLaren.

She's always thought the reason they had so much money was because they don't eat. It's how they have extra to invest into whatever they choose. Her father likes money and her mom likes appearances. A lovely combination that she's caught in-between.

She orders a salad for appearances. Nobody can see what's truly going on. They'd asl questions if she acts strange. She takes small bites and pokes around anything on it that might hold a few extra calories.

She makes conversation with herself in her head. Missing the looks the Australian driver is throwing her way.

They attend the race that weekend. Guests to the McLaren garage. She tries to avoid anything that even remotely looks like a camera since it adds five pounds to the image of her.

Saturday after qualifying is when Oscar finally starts a conversation. An encouraging nod from Lando has him making confident strides towards her.

He offers her a tour and she accept. Her mother isn't paying too much attention to her. Not like she ever does unless she looks acceptable in her loose-fitting clothes, so nobody says anything.

Oscar is nice. He makes good conversation with her. It's different to the people her parents approved of. Oscar asks her about her interests and reciprocates with his own.

They agree to a date after the race on Sunday. He takes her to some park he'd discovered over the weekend.

She hides it away. Desperate to keep this one thing for herself. Untouched by her parents.

She texts Oscar far more than necessary. Her co-workers notice how her mood lightens.

He comes to see her at every opportunity he can. she can't seem to get away from her parents. Every time she tries it ends badly. Then they get suspicious and start looking through her things.

Oscar takes her to eat a few times. She keeps up appearances. It's strange that someone is encouraging her to eat. Oscar looks soft every time she indulges in the foods that had been restricted for her entire life.

Her mother notices. Because every calorie shows. Like somehow, she knows every time she puts any kind of food in her mouth.

Oscar spends summer break staying with her. She takes a deep breath introducing him to her parents. They play nice in front of him.

Afterwards is a different story. They catch her alone in the hall and pull her away. They lecture her about not knowing anything about him and how he won't be any good for her.

She sleeps separate from him all summer. She keeps her distance physically. He doesn't notice how far gone she is.

Oscar asks her to come with him. To drop what she's doing and travel the world with him.

She acts on a whim. She leaves everything and follows Oscar around the world.

He figures is out eventually. He knew, always had, but he sees how bad it is. Her resolve breaks, she doesn't know how to combat these thoughts in her head. They are overwhelming, they eat away at her in the form of depriving herself.

But Oscar is a patient soul. He works at her pace.

Oscar comes up behind her when she gets lost staring at her flaws in the mirror. He doesn't drag her away; he points out every beautiful make she has, every perfection like it's a drug to him.

He asks about confronting her mother; about defending her and setting some hard boundaries. She begs him not to. They cut contact and leave it at that.

It's different being with someone who doesn't care what she eats. Who doesn't make a big deal about when she pokes at her food or indulges in a favorite snack.

It's amazing what happened when one has a decent support system. When she is able to look for Oscar when she's stuck staring in the mirror and picking at her skin. When he stays with her despite relapses that make her sick.

Oscar still holds and compliments and makes sure she knows she's loved despite it all. He tells her that seeing her smile is worth every weird joke he tells.

He's doing what her parents should've done. And maybe one day she'll see that she never needed their approval, that she has always been perfect. But for now, Oscar is there to make sure she knows she's enough for him exactly as she is.

RoP season 2 episode 5

Thoughts and opinions, because I have nowhere else to ramble about it Heavy spoilers below the cut ofc

Oh so, so we came back to Annatar and Celebrimbor, didn't we? And we begin to see the cracks! The end of the episode was heartbreaking; it is already easy to see the results of Annatar's manipulations and how it takes its toll on Celebrimbor. The poor elf just wanted to make a cute arts and crafts project (~~better than any made before~~) and now his "best friend" NOT ONLY outwards lies to him about dwarven rings, but also tells his protege that it was her master who she saw in the shadow realm? WHAT? Masterful.

I love it already looks like Celebrimbor is leaning a little bit back, looking into Annatar's eyes a little unsure. I was surprised by Annatar's boldness in this episode... I expected more cute smiles and sweet words. But I suppose the main reason behind it lies in time constraints. Time constraints that are also heavily noticeable in different parts of the narration; mainly, the Numenor situation. I was kind of displeased with episode 3 for the whole plot about Numenor being so shallow; it lacked the emotional stakes for me, it felt too rushed, too sudden; we as an audience seemed to lack the appreciation of golden times of Numenor to feel moved by its potential fall. That was a moment when suddenly I became invested in the Numenorian plot; mostly because of the beautiful portrayal of Elendil by Lloyd Owen, but also because suddenly with the Valandil situation the whole thing became personal. It was actually surprisingly great. I am still of the opinion that this whole coup piece of plot would oh so benefit from being written a little more subtly (the motivations behind it were really hardly developed), but as for what we have in this adaptation, I loved this scene. Although I screamed with Elendil at my screen for Valandil to choose differently. AND NOW ELENDIL WILL THINK IT WAS BECAUSE OF HIS ORDER HIS SON'S BFF HE HIMSELF CALLED SON IS DEAD DEAD Captain, oh my captain The captain scene was also beautiful, because it was an exception to one thing - is it only me or this show has some serious problem with taking lordship quite… seriously? What I kinda got tired of in the plot is everyone disobeying their lords all the time; when I saw this tired face of Gil-Galad I thought he really deserves to have his scowl, it seems to be the worst position to be in Middle Earth right now: a king.

When you think everyone keeps telling you what to do and don't listen to your orders do not worry... There are like five other lords, kings and queens that have the same treatment, one queen is even I believe trapped in her tower after a coup, so it really could have been worse. The last thing about this episode: the dwarves I was kinda unnerved of how quickly the rings negatively impacted king Durin? I did not like the idea of rushing this process that much BUT I really enjoyed the explanation behind it, the idea that it is because of a direct will of Annatar and that he would gaslight Celebrimbor into thinking it was his fault. And it works! The greed and pride and deception as making the ring faulty. And the pride that keeps Celebrimbor from admitting it; the FEAR that he accidently did something not perfect, but even bad; that he may not accomplish the dream, but live the horror. (Well, Tyelpe-) The dwarves. I was to write about the dwarves! It was as always solid visually and in terms of characters, Disa is still a queen and Durin IV really needs to have his emotional Elrond back. I was trying to be upset upon the choices of king Durin, but somehow I was too happy upon him welcoming his son back to be angry. I will still regret it, I fear.

I Watched The First Two Episodes of Hazbin Hotel

Overall I wasn't bored. It's a fun show from the little I've seen. I have thoughts and notes I'd like to give so here's how this is gonna go:

🔴 I am so confused. This is narrarated by Charlie. And her goal is to redeem sinners so they can enter Heaven to save their lives. But she also knows that Heaven doesn't kill sinners to stop over-population, it's just plain evil. So, what are we doing here again?

🔴 This is the first time her relationship with her father is mentioned in the show. And it's done though a joke made by Alastor in a commercial he made. (Also, how would he know about Charlie's "daddy issues"? This isn't common knowledge as far as I know).

🔴 WHAT THE FUCK? I'M SORRY. WHAT THE FUCK? I hate being this negative in the beginning but WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. I don't want to discuss this line any more than the shock I felt while hearing it. Next.

🔴 Everyone already talked about how the camera work is crap and I agree. But here's an idea: If they wanted to make something grandiose, why not make a classic musical number that's completely unrealistic, and then make the reality of Hell clash with it?

🔴 This scene could be cut off mostly entirely. The point here is to show how awful Adam is, and the second the talking's over, we get a better song that does just that.

🔵 At first I was gonna make this a critisism, but all it did was making me ask questions, which is good in a first episode. This has me wondering about the characterization of Heaven and how it came to be. I can accept them being a shitty bureaucracy who only appear good, but this is some Saturday Morning Cartoon villian stuff. I'm very curious about this.

🔵 Niffty couldn't say her lines and just stared at the camera and was completely unaware of the fact that she did a shitty job. How come? I wonder what they'll do with it.

🔴 This is edited. The scene didn't go like this. We cut from the hotel to the Vees before we see Alastor's counter-attack. They cut to a really long section of the episode, in the middle of something that could be dealt with in a second. I wasn't as invested as I could have been in the introduction of the Vees, because I kept waiting to come back to Alastor.

🔵 I'd like to know why Charlie is so naive. Optimistic? Yeah, makes sense. But naive? Now that's interesting to know. She clearly goes outside and sees how sinners aren't the safest people (ie Happy Day in Hell), so you think that spending eternity with them would get her acquainted with the culture and make her adjust her behaviors. But she's still looking at the guy who just tried to kill her and goes "Oh, hello again". I'm dying to know why she's like that.

🔵 Despite Angel Dust not adoring the hotel, it's very much a safe place for him. A safe the Vees, from Valentino. Now, someone who worked for them just a second before getting discovered, is in. Can't wait to see more of this.

🔵 I liked the rivalry of Alastor and Vox. I liked how Vox is this perfect big shot, yet crumbles about Alastor when he's barely trying. Definitely a highlight.

Care to elaborate on the dislike of "what they did with (Morrigan) in DA:I"?

Simple, snarky answer: I play Lavellan.

More complete answer: Morrigan in DAO could be kind of shitty, she didn't have a lot of respect for... anyone and seemed to make decisions solely based on whether or not they were evil (Morrigan bby please leaving everyone in Redcliffe to die isn't pragmatic when we still have to go through Redcliffe), but she was sheltered and still learning how the world worked so it was understandable, even sympathetic in places. Morrigan in DAI has been out in the world for ten years and has only gotten shittier. In general I'm not fond of the way that the recurring DAO characters apparently haven't grown as people in ten years (hardened King Alistair, a character specifically mentioned as being a good king, writing diplomatic letters to someone he met for at most five minutes like the recently-freed-from-heavy-indoctrination nineteen year old he hasn't been for a decade especially irritates me), it's clear that Bioware is more invested in cashing in on nostalgia than they are in developing these characters as characters, but Morrigan? Bioware, I know negative character development is still development but it maybe wasn't the best idea.

Let me put it this way. In Witch Hunt Morrigan steals a book from the Dalish so that she can learn about eluvians. This is kind of shitty behaviour, but it's Morrigan levels of shitty and she does leave the book outside the eluvian, so the Dalish as far as we see have reclaimed that book and the knowledge in it, and also they had it for years and so logically knew the things in that book already. Definitely they had access to it. And it's also important to keep in mind that that book is the only information we can confirm that Morrigan actually has on eluvians in canon; she's never mentioned as finding any other source. And then in DAI she basically calls the Dalish morons the whole way through and claims that she (a human woman with literally zero connection to the Dalish or elves in general beyond maybe having some friends who are elves and also stealing from the Dalish that one time, the Flemeth situation doesn't count because we're given no reason to believe Morrigan ever for a moment even suspected the Mythal thing or that Flemeth wasn't human or to believe that Flemeth passed on any knowledge about the elves, and certainly not anything the Dalish didn't know) has more right to take this ancient elven font of knowledge sacred to a Dalish god than a Dalish elf does. This despite the fact that if you have the arcane knowledge perk you understand the Well better than her literally just by looking at it (she doesn't know the Well will put the drinker under a geas despite all her research, while Quiz only has to look at it and hear the whispers coming from it to figure that out). I've seen it described as humansplaining and... yeah that kind of describes what Morrigan does. If you play Lavellan she's just constantly really shitty to you about you wanting to engage with your own damn culture and claims she knows better because she read one book that you quite possibly also read. It's not entirely to do with her as a character, some of it is DAI's shitty writing and without it her arrogance could've been just a character trait that she could've moved past (let Lavellan and Solas troll her by straight up lying about the inscriptions in the temple and her going along with it because she won't admit that she can't read as much of it as she claims she can, please), but the way it's allowed to stand unchallenged despite by all logic being horseshit really pisses me off. I don't trust Bioware not to double down on the "Oh this human woman understands this totally unrelated culture that she is in no way part of and has barely even studied way better than the people belonging to that culture do and deserves valuable ancient relics of their people more than them" thing, so I very much do not want to see her in any more DA games.

My Review of Torchwood: Almost Perfect

So, my friend gave me this book a few months ago (bless her. She’s a sweetheart!) I’m not a big reader of physical books and I’m quite slow when it comes to reading them. In addition, my friend had given me another Doctor Who book for Christmas and I was busy reading that (Feast of the Drowned that took me about 5 months to read).

I was a little hesitant to get into this book. This was the only Torchwood book I had heard of before, and that was from a negative review on Twitter. And reading it, I have to say I completely disagree with them!

This book was amazing! I absolutely loved reading it!

I think the story is very interesting and extremely Torchwood! I loved reading Ianto try to adapt to being a woman. And I was so invested into why everything was the way it was. I didn’t really know who Emma was, yet I was still intrigued with her story and how she fitted in with Torchwood. I know that the main characters weren’t going to die, but I felt tense about whether Rhys and Gwen were going to fine.

And this book is actually funny! There are so many lines that are so random, they make me want to laugh. I had a nightmare trying to stop myself from audibly reacting to it when I was in public.

But the highlight of it all has to be the chapters themselves! The chapters themselves are quite short, which is great considering my attention span is not the best. My only complaint about the chapter sizes is that “Ianto Is Having A Flashback” is 24 pages long. And having gotten used to quite snappy chapters, this was quite a challenging chapter to sit through. The title names though! Chef’s kiss! Some examples are:

My biggest complaint about this book would probably be that it is very 2000s. I feel like there are quite a few stereotypes within. And Jack is awkwardly quite sexist to Ianto. Nevertheless, I don’t think this takes away from the book and I still absolutely enjoyed reading it!

hi pile three! your current focus in life may be surrounding some love issues. is there a third party situation at hand right now? i think there is a clear answer on who it is you may end up with or should pick. i don’t think you are the one that is fighting over someone against someone else, but instead, the person being “fought over”. the two parties competing with each other for the third person’s attention are stable financially, materially. I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion but I overall didn't care for TUA s2 and absolutely love s3. I appreciate what s2 was doing narratively and that it laid the foundations for s3. But as like an actual TV show I was watching I found myself not invested. I had no interest in Klaus' cult arc (I know he's the tumblr bb boy but I like Klaus but he's not my fav for sure) or Allison's happy marriage arc. I really like the turn her character took in s3, negative character development whoo! Luther is my boy but I didn't care what he was doing either. Would have liked more focus on the Commission that wasn't around the Handler.

Everything and everyone was all spread out and I feel like ideas were thrown out and we went 'hey look at this!' and then it was over before anything could happen with it. I did still enjoy it, all of Five's scenes were amazing. Diego I feel really came into his own this season and him and Lila are such a great duo. BENNNNNNN. Loved Elliot and the Swedes as the perfect TUA side characters who are just so memorable.

But i seriously loved s3, the apocalypse was happening right in front of them and there was this slow creeping tension similar to s1 to just Get Your Shit Together. Everything was spacious yet contained as the world became smaller and smaller leading to some fascinating character moments. LOVED Hotel Obsidian, how it started as this weird place Klaus used to crash to something way way stranger. Dad Diego my beloved, Luther embracing his Himboism and FINALLY getting something good. Allison's cruel breakdown arc. Viktor's reckoning with himself - as a man and a dangerous meta. Five's just complete giving up. Klaus' two disastrous family road trips. I loved the idea of the Sparrows, could they have been used better? Oh yeah but the idea of a competent team on the surface who is broken down once things got tough and weird in contrast to the Umbrellas who are So Bad at everything it cancels out.

Anyway I'm a s3 stan for life.

Fishing / slice of life by NUT

Rating: B

Plot: Tsunehiro Sasaki is not having a great time. He's heavily in debt after failed investments, stopped attending college, his doctor found out he has only about two years to live, and unknowing to him, his house is about to be torn down. One day, trying to escape from his creditors, he falls from a bridge, and as he accepts his fate, he's rescued out of the water by Takaaki and his group of fishing enthusiasts.

Length: 12 episodes

Thoughts: So, a show about fishing. Right. We're really starting to get into the “press random article on Wikipedia until a sport or hobby appears” phase of having too many shows. But here's the thing: when the end product is this solid, you could make a show even out of (tries method)... 1930s racing. Well, that's not hard, just hope you like characters dying in the most horrific ways. Anyway, This is a show I've picked out mostly out of curiosity, and it really paid off, arguably the best non remake I've followed during the Fall 2024 season after Acro Trip fizzled out a bit.

Like many of these shows, even if you don't know anything about fishing, it tries to fill you in with the basics with the main character acting as an audience surrogate, every episode has five minutes to go over some technique, equipment or basic knowledge, and you really don't need to know anything about fishing to enjoy this, you're not even forced to learn anything, more often than not those moments are used to connect characters to each other - by the final episodes, quite literally.

This is mostly a show where Sasaki gets to see his life through a different lens - he's really not in a good place at the start, but changes thanks to the kindness of those around him, starting with Takaaki who offers him a place to stay and to pay off his debt so that at least the loan sharks are no longer chasing him, and over time he also realises other people have problems too, there's an whole episode dealing with the Manager's estranged kid and his troubles connecting with him. What's more surprising about this show is how oddly upbeat it is for a show where the main character is dying. True he doesn't say anything, you just kinda forget... until reality comes knocking and things get real *fast* for the conclusion of the story, and indeed, other people have problems as well. Not really expecting a second season, but I don't think it needs one anyway - this is a fun show that tells a good story that ends in a good place in these 12 episodes, and you're probably going to want to rewatch it again in the future.

Character design is just great and the best I've seen this season. From Hana's blobby hair and Ice’s metamorphosis between her gremlin and model looks to Fujishiro in his permanent balding, chibi mode and Takaaki who kinda looks like a male version of Harako from FLCL (although with the opposite effect in the main characters life), everyone is pretty dynamic (there's a scene where Hana ends in gremlin mode and Ice in her model looks just because) and easily distinguishable.

Recommended to: anyone looking for a mostly chill slice of life

I don’t think I can put into words how much I loved this book. A shorter review because I have nothing to criticise. This book is perfect.

I did go into it having seen spoilers that Feyre and Rhysand would be endgame, but I didn’t find that to negatively affect my reading experience. The build-up was amazing and I would gladly read another book entirely made up of the two of them exchanging magical flirty notes.

The twists, characters, and pacing are all so perfect and there was not one boring or slow chapter. I would especially love to see more of Tarquin and the Summer Court. I do feel bad about how Feyre, Rhys, and Amren deceived Tarquin, but it was for the greater good.

Chapter 54 and 55 are pure gold. Personally, I think the tension during the throne room chapter and the inn chapter are unmatched, but 54 and 55 were so satisfying to read after the build-up. I had the audiobook on when I got to 54 and 55 because I was getting ready to go out and I wish I had time to fully process everything. I love when a book has the power to change my mood. I’d seen spoilers for all of it, but it still had an effect, which is impressive. What I’d give to experience this book for the first time again…

I like Azriel, but I was so mad when his arrival robbed us of Rhys and Feyre going to buy lingerie together. Though, somehow, I think I preferred how that chapter ended. Something about Rhys sending her a vision of it was sexier than if it had happened, so I can’t even be mad anymore.

The cliffhanger!!! I hope we get a bonus chapter of Rhys and Feyre’s ceremony one day. It’s a need.

The only thing that would have made this book even better for me is if Rhys’ trauma from Under the Mountain was acknowledged more. It felt just slightly skimmed over. We get little glimpses through lines like ‘it doesn’t mean anything. It’s just your body reacting,’ but I think it’s an important aspect of Rhys’ recent history that should have been acknowledged. Not just in this book, but throughout the series as a whole (I’ll discuss this more in my A Court of Wings and Ruin review).

Also, the House of Wind is a bit of a plot hole because they make it clear that no one can winnow in. They can only fly in or take 10,000 stairs. If this is the case, how do all the people on Starfall get in? Surely they don’t all have an Illyrian plus one and didn’t go up the stairs in their formal attire. I’ll personally be overlooking that because the rest of the book is so good.

Importantly, I should note that the only reason I saw spoilers for everything is because I was so obsessed with Rhys and Feyre that I was reading short fanfictions about them while I was still reading ACOMAF, because I quite literally could not wait for them to finally get together and I also didn’t want the book to end too quickly. In hindsight, I don’t actually know if the plot is any good because I was far too invested in Rhys. The plot could be nonexistent and I’d still give this five stars for Rhys and his charms.

Infinite stars out of 5. This was exactly the kind of book I was expecting and more.

It's 2 in the morning and imma send this before I pass out on a work night, but am so fucking exhausted cuz even though I've been distancing from TSAMS lore I still get so discouraged with all the Nexus bullcrap that is still going on why cant they just make things right i just want the characters to stop being massacred after being so good for so long wake me up when Sun adopts Dazzle and the family gets their shit together goodnight

I still wonder to this day who was pushing for New Moon to be a villian.

And why the narrative swerved so hard and kept saying time and time again "Nexus is evil now. He was never good, and your an idiot for ever liking him as a character."

These days, Tsams is something that I watch to watch something on YouTube with my eyes glazed over with no real investment.

Because even the shenanigans family episodes seem so hallow and shallow now. Because we know that family love can be conditional and family can be disowned within a singular argument.

I still don't understand other choices that the show make. Like, Sun not adopting Dazzle, and him acting like it's a weird thing to do. When.... Sun adopting Dazzle just makes sense in culmination of his arc. And Dazzle will be a four year old forever and have a life as an animatronic. She can't go back to her biological parents that lost their daughter to what they assume is Sun about approximately five years ago. But I wouldn't put it past this show to do a "DAZZLE MEETS HER PARENTS IN VRCHAT" Later... And everything will be fine and played for either shananigans or it'll be super angst with Dazzle moving away to live with her bio parents or something. I wouldn't put it past this show.

Why doesn't he want to adopt her? She already lives with them. It just makes logical sense and is a culmination of both their arcs.

But right now, everytime I see the characters interacting and having fun. I keep thinking about how Nexus was locked in a cage, electrocuted to unconsciousness and had his mind forcibly violated..... All because he got angry and had told his sister to stop trying to fix him. No wonder Nexus viewed Earth as collateral after that. There's no way for Nexus to not think that the entire family and Monty was working as one unit against him. His personality shift only really happened after the mind violation.

No one really tried to speak pragmatically to him. Characters say "they did all they could" but they really didn't. They just told Nexus to stop, Nexus said no, then they said they disowned him and treated him like a subhuman. That wasn't a conversation. They more or less arrested Nexus for "word crimes" Eclipse was even disappointed with how Earth handled the situation.

It also makes no damn sense that Nexus just stopped caring about Solar when he learned he got brought back and suddenly became obsessed with negative star power stuff because..... I don't know.... Plot? It seems so counterintuitive to his character.

And I do think he still cares about Solar. But I thought the reason he broke away from his family was to bring back Solar with or without them. But.... He just kinda gave up after he got launched into space... I mean.... Was him wanting to bring Solar back based entirely on his connection to his family??? And not Solar???? No man. That makes no sense. Sure... Solar was growing in the pod on the sun (and god, solar should have star power if he was reconstructed on the damn Sun. But I think they just didn't want to do that. This is why they need a lore bible desperately.) But Nexus didn't know that. Why did he just drop trying to bring Solar back the moment Dark Sun took him in? The narrative acts like Nexus was clawing at the bit to just experiment with Neg Star power and Solar was just a means to an end that he could drop on a dime.

Like.... No????

Sure, Nexus came to Solar and asked him to join him later but like.... Nexus was vanished from the narrative for awhile and seemed to just drop everything about Solar because apparently the only reason he was doing it is cus his family wanted it.

But, yeah I don't buy anything that they're telling me about Nexus.

So every time I see OMoon with his family doing shananigans, I just wonder "how long until this Moon messes up and they lock him in a cage too"

I already see Old Moon berate Sun every chance he gets. Just because Moondrop doesn't call Sun "stupid" doesn't mean he doesn't act like he is. Moondrop fixing Dazzle's body is really little points for me. Because Moondrop more or less did the same for Lunar. He hasn't changed at all, really. He still yells at Sun and flies off the handle when Sun doesn't do what he wants, or when Sun has an emotional response to something he gets angry if it's not how he wants. Moon isn't even better in my eyes. He didn't even have an arc. He went to sleep, woke up and stopped saying bad things, but his actions remain the same.

But at the end of the day, this is a YouTube show. Who I think too much inspiration from Marvel for their plotlines. I watch it because I do like the voice acting, but I can tell the cracks are showing more since there are far less gameplay videos.

That's what changed.

Far less time to write then they even had originally.

For now, tsams is just... Something to watch to pass time.

But I have far more fun seeing what other people do with these characters then the YouTube show itself.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Final Thoughts

I have opinions I need to share. Obviously spoilers ahead so… enter at your own risk?

Firstly, the positives

To give it some credit, this was a beautiful ending. It was technically the only way they could end it bc it was clear no matter what they did, the apocalypse would follow

I loved the reference to them saving the Eiffel Tower in an alternate timeline, like they did in the comics

Now for the negatives - this will be in no coherent order so bare with me

It’s embarrassingly clear that this needed its usual 10 episodes. I think I read somewhere that the director felt that 6 episodes were the perfect amount so maybe Netflix didn’t cut it, or perhaps he was trying to make the best of a shitty situation. But every scene felt like it was missing something.

Where was the family dance sesh???

Five and Lila. No. Just. No. They’re begrudging step-sibling and that is it. And even if they did want to go down this direction, even if I wasn’t so opposed to the ship, I just didn’t care. You can’t just time skip 7 years in 1 episode and simultaneously get me to feel invested in their relationship. They needed 2 episodes at least to make me feel the impact of those 7 years. I know for 5 that’s probably nothing compared to his time in the apocalypse, but to Lila, that would’ve driven her insane, and in her breaking point, that’s when she goes to 5, bit like how they did this. Not to mention, they come back looking the exact same. 5 is supposed to be, what, 27 at this point? I sure as hell don’t see it. I would’ve much preferred a scene where, once Lila releases they’re going back home, frantically tries to clean up and cut her hair to look exactly how she did before so that her family still recognise her. Ugh that entire point was just so shit

The baby shark gag was not funny

Why did Diego and Lila have to have twins as well. I get it, they’re tired parents who miss their glory days. But if you want us to feel really sorry for them, and later mourn them when Lila has to say goodbye, maybe let us see the family interact as… as well as family. I was so excited to see Diego in his real daddy era just for him to talk to his oldest daughter maybe once? ALSO why does Lila get that whole emotional goodbye to her children and Diego just, nothing? “Get the family out of here” umm hello, even if you didn’t like the in-laws, those are 3 of your fucking children that you’re saying goodbye to forever. I think I’m just upset that they reduced Lila to being a tired mother (to me anyway) and forget Diego was the father. I would’ve so rather seen him being the dad that he never had in his life.

Like putting the family on the Subway to nowhere. Literally. It’s not like she knew how the Subway worked so she was just sticking her family on the train and hoping for the best. They made it seem as though they had never found a world safe enough. Like truly the best place for them to stay was the fucking Greenhouse world, so how did she expect the family to survive, and with no powers mind you. And also didn’t thy know at that point that all ultimate timelines would be destroyed, except for the main timeline. Was she hoping they’d magicallly be taken to the main timeline orrr? I’m just so fucking confused man

The Subway. What a fucking missed opportunity oh my fucking god. Its only true function was to have all the Five’s meet up to tell Prime Five the super duper important convenient information that would bring upon The Finale. It was such a cool concept and we saw… none of it. Firstly, they made it wayyy to easy that Five just happened to find a journal his future self made that worked out the tunnel system. You’re telling me that in 7 years he never worked any of it out. Uhhh I just wanted to see how the Subway worked and we couldn’t even get that. AND they only showed us 1 world!!!! I think alternate timelines are such a. Fun concept because you can explore multiple worlds that are like your own but a little more freaky with little to no consequences in your own world. I LOVED seeing the Phoenix Academy so much but… that was it. Imagine a montage of Five and Lila visiting a ton of worlds like our own with messed up Academy. Can you imagine if we saw a comic accurate Umbrella Academy??? Omfg the ultimate homage. I’m tearing up just thinking about what we could’ve had.

Gene and Jean were rly fun but again, what waisted potential. I loved my quirky not-so-instance parents sm

Uncle Five? Uncle Luther? Gone. Maybe I’m misremembering but they always seemed so excited to meet Claire. Ik they’re pissed at Alison or whatever (but they’re literally not though) but you’re telling me we never see them interact, despite them being some of the only sibling to care about Claire??? Oh okay, okayyy

The powers. Does nobody care that some have multiple powers now orrr? So Lila had laser eyes but could still mimic everyone else. Also the running gag of not being able to control her eyes could’ve gone on for so much longer. And Alison. Was she just so powerful she could rumour ppl without saying anything now? And when her eyes went yellow, that was a completely new power, right? And did Viktor’s powers seem different to you guys or is it bc he absorbed Harlan’s powers last season. Me personally, I think they’re should’ve gone down the Tinkerbell: The Pirate Fairy route and swapped the sibling powers with each other or completely different ones

It would’ve been such a good plot twist if after learning that the Cleanse restored them to the one true timeline, they all think it’s their original lives as a misdirect and they the horror sets in as you realise that they’re actually part of an ultimate timeline. They just could’ve done so much more than that. I know with limited episodes they had to wrap things up quickly so after they learned they had to be erased they just kinda had to accept it but I would’ve loved an entire episode of them grappling with the fact and saying goodbye and reminiscing about their past and maybe even being in denial and self sabotaging or whatever (kind of in the style of that ep in s2 when they have an hour to meet up

Why was Jennifer in a squid??? Why? did she get all the durango? Why weren’t there 42 other kids who got ur? That could’ve been such a cool parallel like cmonnn

I always suspected Ben’s death to be connected to Reg in some way so I loved the reveal… but I hated Jennifer’s involvement. Like it just felt tooo convenient. And I understand why they did it from a writers/ directors perspective that they wanted to wrap everything up but I just felt it could’ve been done much smarter. ALSO I just realised that Klaus doesn’t know how Ben died. Diabolical. I will not stand for it

Reginald didn’t recognise his own wife??? Like when Fake Gene called him “love” and Reggie didn’t clock it???

Speaking of Reggie ARE WE EVER GOING TO DISCUSS THAT HE’S AN ALIEN ROBOT BITCH???

Soooo Luther never once asked Reggie about Sloane???

Ray. Where’s Ray? Maybe the actor was working on something else and they had to get rid of his character

WE NEVER EVEN HEAD ALISON SAY “I HEARD A RUMOUR” NOT EVEN ONCE like I get she’s powerful enough to the point she doesn’t have to say it anymore but that line eats down every. Single. TIME!

Lastly and most importantly… the soundtrack. The songs didn’t slap. Simple as.

Final Statement

I think I covered all my points. I doubt I’ll make a part 2 bc honestly, the show isn’t worth my time and energy anymore. I just needed to rant bc I don’t know any ppl who watch this who have any lick of media literacy.

The finale was painfully underwhelming. It didn’t feel like the same TUA I’ve grown to love over the past few years. I can accept the ending but the journey to how we got there was one massive slap in the face. I’m going to ignore this ending ever happened thank you <3

After Margaret breaks the news that she is going off to university, Mordecai ends up spiralling downwards, and Rigby is unfortunately left to pick up the pieces. One late night however, when he comes across a Mordecai that is ready to drink all his pains away, what better way to help to help him in his self-destruction by drinking with him too.

“Mordecai? what are you...” 

“Overdue for a refreshing and long drink.” 

Mordecai opens the fridge, and takes out a few beer bottles from it, placing them in the middle of the table. He then pulls out his chair, and sits on it, his right arm lazily placed on the top of it. 

“c’mere rigby.” 

It was the first time he saw Mordecai come out of his room in weeks, and it clearly showed through his unkempt look, where his wolf cut mullet had stuck out in the wrong places, and his crusty five-year-old boxers made a reappearance. His white shirt had dried coffee stains, and his eyes were puffy and swollen. 

Your still crying over her?  

“... you shouldn’t be drinking,” rigby said, reaching out for the bottles until Mordecai gripped his hand, his resolve for a drink, immoveable. 

“Well, I need to. So, either drink with me or go the fuck away.” 

Mordecai loosened his grip and rigby hastily pulled his hand away, nursing it slow rubs against the skin.  

Mordecai had been depressed over Margeret before, but not to the degree rigby had been aware of before. Mordecai had always been the stronger one, the one who could bounce back from any kind of trouble they got themselves in.  

But he was never resilient when it came to his lovesickness. His undeserved love for Margeret. 

And now, his obsession had started to negatively impact his life, and he's pushing the people that care the most for him. 

She really isn’t special.  

Rigby pulls his own chair, and sits down, taking the beer in his hand. 

“I guess I'm going to have to join you then,” Rigby said, unscrewing the top and taking a long sip from it. He then smacks his lips and lets out a dramatic sigh, obviously pointed towards Mordecai. 

“so, you drinking or what?” pushing the bottle towards mordecai, lifting his eyebrow. 

“... Of course I am.”

“god, my life really sucks,” mordecai slurred, finishing the fifth bottle before knocking it to the side. 

“Why does it suck,” rigby asked, tipping the beer into his mouth.  

“B-because, margeret man...” 

This guy.  

“margeret isn’t the only woman in the world,” rigby said, and leaned his elbows forward, looking straight at mordecai. 

“...y-you will meet someone better.” 

Mordecai shakes his head and continues his self-deprecation. 

“no...no I'm useless with other women, I can’t...” 

which was partially true. Mordecai wasn’t great with women in general, but when he invested his time and energy into one person only, he could be pretty decent at it. Unlike Rigby, he had a lot of potential. 

“you aren’t...”  

“I m-must be if the p-people I like want to leave me.” 

what about me?  

“...not true. pops, benson, skips, high-five ghost and....” listing each with his fingers, becoming more unsure as he named them. 

Mordecai scoffs condescendingly and takes another bottle into his hand. 

“That doesn’t...fuck...count.” 

“...Why wouldn’t it? They're your friends, aren’t they?” 

If it was a year ago, Rigby would have laughed at the idea of being friends with hardcore stickler Benson, or the sheltered weirdo pops, but once he got to know the whole gang, he started to think of them as a second family.  

Not that I would admit this.  

And although they tried to get Mordecai out of his slump, he stubbornly remained in his room, and let himself succumb to his own heartbreak.  

But Rigby didn’t get it. Margeret was just a regular chick.  

She doesn’t know him like I do.

“... and I'm still here, aren’t I?” rigby mumbles, a vulnerable slip of the tongue that he regretted once he said it, as his cheeks grew hot and mordecai sported an unusual emotion on his face. 

Fuck me. Fuck...  

“Yeah. I guess...that's uf...true.” 

Mordecai lets go of the beer bottle and stands up, stumbling towards the sink until he gets a hold of the edge, and runs his face off with cold water.  

He finally turns the tap off, and turns toward rigby, as his hair blocked his eyes and his damp shirt stuck to his chest. It made for a pitiful sight. 

“so...get wasted with me all night alright? I'm counting on you.” 

but it didn't feel bad that he was only one that could be counted on.

"as long as you don't choke in your own vomit."
