House of Fingolfin | Spending Winter with Their S/O

Request: Hey! *waves* Can I ask you about how you think the house of Fingolfin (Fingolfin included) would react if the reader got hypothermia and nearly died, or did die if you want more angst? If their s/o survives then I can imagine lots of overprotectiveness, ie not letting them outside without dozens of cloaks and scarves. Nor allowing them to go out in winter unsupervised. - Anon

A/N: Surprisingly, I wasn’t feeling the angst vibes to write reader dying (someone check if I’m ill). So I went with the route of reader surviving, and now, every winter, the elves ensure that reader is well-secured and comfortable to remove their fear of the cold.

꒷꒦꒷Fingolfin꒷꒦꒷

Being the wise and compassionate leader he is, FIngolfin ensures that you feel comfortable and warm during the winter months by organising cosy nights by the fireplace, with soft blankets and cushions to keep you warm. Anything to shake that lingering fear away.

Fingolfin would personally attend to you, wrapping you in his own cloak should you feel chilly while holding you close to share his body heat. When he can’t, he will ensure a hearth is set up with hearty meals to keep you energised and well-fed throughout the cold season.

The last thing he wants to hear, is you sneezing or saying that you feel ill, he’ll spend hours cuddling under thick blankets by the fire while enjoying hot cups of tea. He would also have woollen socks and scarves made for you to wear.

Being a romantic at heart, he will find the time to dance with you, wrapping a blanket around you both to keep you closer as you dance, shutting out the creeping coldness.

Plus, he knows a few songs he can sing to ease the chill, so you’ll get the opportunity to listen to his beautiful, deep voice as he softly sings a few tunes. And if you’re lucky, you might convince him to construct a few blanket forts to bring in additional warmth.

꒷꒦꒷Fingon꒷꒦꒷

Fingon dotes on you heavily during the winter, ensuring that you are always snug and warm. He would surprise you with hand-knitted mittens and scarves that were imbued with magic to keep you warm.

As an excellent cook who enjoys preparing hearty meals, he uses this moment to display his chef’s abilities to cook up a storm of nutritional foods to ensure that you aren’t starving or underfed. Plus, his cooking and baking help to fill your home with the rich aroma of hearty food and spices to remove any lingering fear of the cold.

You also get his talented musician skills as he always carries his trusty harp to serenade you and take away the chill from your bones, replacing it with comfort and security as you cuddle by the fire.

On days when the snow isn’t falling, nor is the wind howling, he’ll take you outside, but not too far to enjoy some snow and build a few snowmen or engage in a light snowball fight before informing you that it’s time to head indoors.

Did I mention that he’s a massive cuddle bug? During winters, you have given him the blessed opportunity to give you multiple heat strokes out of love, since he’s a walking heater, whenever he cuddles you under all the blankets.

꒷꒦꒷Turgon꒷꒦꒷

Turgon would utilise his wealth and power as King of Gondolin to construct something extremely lavish like a greenhouse just for you to spend your time during winter or host a feast, so the halls are filled with festivities to deter your mind from the harshness of the cold.

He would also fill your room with luxurious furs and a well-constructed fireplace to ensure enough warmth is available. At times when he isn’t in a meeting, he will find and whisk you away to cuddle in his chambers.

Depending on the snowfall, he would still spare the chance of allowing you to comfortably roam around outside in the snow, so long as it isn’t a blizzard. However, you will be wearing like fifty fur coats.

Sleigh rides through the snow-covered streets of Gondolin while you’re snuggly nestled under his arm the entire time. Dancing under the street lamps in the light snowfall before returning indoors for hot chocolate.

Similar to his brother, he would commission garments or a magical imbued cloak to keep you warm and comfortable during your winter.

꒷꒦꒷Argon꒷꒦꒷

Blankets, blankets, blankets and more blankets. Oh, and a pillow and blanket fort are being constructed for both of your interests. Knowing his playful approach to life, he would treat this situation with fun to distract you.

Despite how tall and long his body is, Argon would find all sorts of indoor games to play with you, like hide-and-seek or catch. It’s alright if a few vases are broken, it’s all for a good cause.

Don’t forget the food. Argon is a heavy eater, so he’ll engage in food competition to see who will finish meals the quickest or eat the most. Anything to ensure that you’re eating and stocking up on energy during the chilly period.

Drapes his entire long and heavy, limp body all over yours. Similar to his eldest brother, a walking heater who will give you a heat stroke under all those blankets—you probably don’t require a blanket when he exists.

Even though he wants you to stay out of the cold, he still doesn’t want you to miss out on the beauty of winter. So, he’ll have a portion of the house constructed with glass so you can sit and watch the snowfall or the animals passing by.

Turgon grit his teeth when he saw the red-cloaked guards. He had deliberately not learned the sigils the sons of Fëanáro had chosen for themselves, so he wasn’t sure which of them had claimed the sign of two mountains, but none of the options were good.

“State your name and business,” one of them said, cheerfully. They would have recognized him, by sigil if not face. This could only be for their amusement.

“Turukáno Turondo, King of Ondolindë, here to seek my brother.”

“Do you have any identification to prove this claim?”

“Why would I need identification,” he said, baffled. No city in Aman or Beleriand had ever used identification beyond someone's word.

“Ah, yes, that would be how your city got infiltrated,” one guard said, nodding sagely. “Lack of identification checks.”

“So you acknowledge that I’m the King of Ondolindë—”

“Can’t admit you into Formenos without any paperwork, of course. We can send a messenger for the proper forms to seek identification—really very simple, we would just need you to name three people who can vouch for you, but of course these three would have to be properly identified.”

“Does my brother live here?”

“Which brother would this be?” the other guard said. “We’d hate to give you word of the wrong one.”

“My elder brother, Findekáno Soronindo, the High King of the Noldor.”

“Why would you seek a High King of the Noldor in the city of exile?”

“King Ñolofinwë told me to seek him here. Was he misinformed?”

“No High Kings dwell in Formenos, in accordance the statute of the Valar banishing, at the time, High Prince Fëanáro.” The guard gave him a sunny grin that he did not trust an inch. “We, of course, obey all statutes set forth by lawful authority.”

Turukáno did not want to think about how the followers of Fëanáro defined lawful authority. He had a suspicion that the Valar did not rank among those numbers.

“Where does he dwell, then?”

“Who would this be?”

“My elder brother.” Turukáno did not yell in frustration, because he was an adult and a king and would not give them the satisfaction. “Where is he?”

“We are but humble guards of the gate,” the right-hand guard said. “We would need to speak to our superior, who has the authority to divulge whether or not a given person dwells in Formenos. To do this, she must contact the archivists, who would then diligently search the records for this person. Provided that such a person dwells in Formenos, she would go to the address on record to speak with them and acquire their permission and goodwill to carry news of their location to us, who would then inform you of their wishes. However, if their goodwill is not obtained, or if they cannot be found at any of the addresses on record, or if no person matching the name can be found in the archives, then unfortunately the records of Formenos cannot be of use to you, nor can her guards. Do you have any other questions?”

“How long does this process take?”

“We are always diligent in our searches, to ensure that no mistakes are made. As such it can take up to five decades to process these requests. We can send a messenger provide you with the proper paperwork to fill out if you would like to do so now, otherwise requests can be made in writing to the castle, and the proper paperwork can be delivered by messenger.”

Turukáno was no fool. He narrowed his eyes at the guard. “Send a messenger for this paperwork, then.”

“If you will excuse me for a moment,” the right-hand guard said, stepping inside for a moment before returning. “Do make yourself comfortable, it may be some hours to find the correct forms.”

“I’ll wait here.” These guards were bluffing, and Turukáno would wait them out.

Unfortunately, a few hours later, he was staring at a pile of very real forms. He recognized the handwriting.

Of course it was Carnistir. He should have known. The sons of Fëanáro were all horrible, every last one of them, and somehow Carnistir managed to be the most infuriating of them all. He could practically hear Carnistir laughing at him from the paperwork.

last year @searchingforserendipity25 requested appearence headcanons for Aerin and Húrin, I wanted to repost them with some extra additional thoughts

I put some mildly darker ones under the cut, I didn’t go into too much detail because I wasn’t sure what you and ’d be comfortable with but there are one or two for each

Húrin:

-He’s short and stocky and has always been strong, even as a little kid. Absolutely wanted to help adults lift heavy objects and help out with tasks that he saw the older kids doing

-He walks quickly with a bounce in his step (pre Angband obviously)

-Pre Angband his hair is around shoulder length but he grew it out longer around the time Túrin was born. He canonically doesn’t wear a helm to war but he does tie his hair back against the back of his head.

-His hair is darker than Huor’s and Galdor’s, a sort of honeyish blonde. It gets curlier in his bangs and when it grows out.

-He had lots of freckles as a kid but as a teenager starts to tan instead.

-Both Húrin and Aerin gesticulate a lot when they talk, it’s a common habit among their people

Aerin

I have a post with some clothing/fashion HCs here!

-Aerin has a grandfather of the Haladin and though she looks mostly Hadorian, she has a few traits from this side of the family too. She has either light brown or green eyes and had reddish blonde hair as a young girl though it got lighter as she got older.

-Her hair is fairly straight but gets a bit wavy or frizzy over long summers.

-Her hair is about four inches/ten centimeters longer than shoulder length at the time of the Nírnaeth which is fairly shorter than her average hair length.

-Aerin is 165cm tall when she’s fully grown, a couple centimeters taller than Húrin.

-Unlike him she has freckles throughout her life, light ones mostly on her face and arms.

-Pre Nírnaeth she’s fairly athletic and a good runner.

-Most injuries on Húrin’s face are healed before he’s released as Morgoth wanted to present him as “in high honor”, pretending he betrayed Turgon however there is a faint scar on his right cheek from when Morgoth broke that sword before him

-His sword hand is also permanently damaged in Angband. He can technically hold a weapon afterwards but this is mostly pure spite, it causes him an extraordinary amount of pain and worsens over time.

-Aerin doesn’t have many visible scars from the physical abuse she’s subjected to; most of the significant damage was internal but she has some scars on her back from poorly healed lashes.

Despite the public nature of her abuse, Aerin can’t stop herself from covering up the bruises and other temporary, marks. Some of it is denial, some of it is pride, some of it she can’t quite put into words

Occasionally she is expressly forbidden from hiding it as I sort of talked about here

-The stress of her life post Nírnaeth takes a strong toll on her. Her hair pales and greys early and she loses a dangerous amount of weight especially in the first couple of years. Her health never fully recovers after this and, had she been allowed to return to some of the outdoors activities she had done pre Nírnaeth, she might have been unable to.

I have actually been working on some more extensive writings on her injuries and the effects but I don’t know if I’ll post them as they’re pretty bleak

Navigating his C-PTSD

Request: Maybe headcanons about his potential journey with cPTSD? Maybe this is the better hc idea than the previous one, how did their culture integrate someone with his background into society? I feel like he had unique circumstances compared to most and their understanding of childhood PTSD wasn’t as great as ours (we still have work to do too ofc). I’d be curious how he navigated the challenges and misunderstandings he got from people with normal family backgrounds. We know he was loved and adopted by Turgon but I suspect he had a lot of lingering resentment and felt “apart” or isolated from most people in Gondolin. Either way, thank you for opening requests and I understand if either or both of these asks are a bit ambitious lol. May is also my birth month so I love reading your blog while celebrating. :)) thank you for posting again, and especially then!!

A/N: I tried to cover everything that you mentioned here, but I mostly focused on it being with a significant other, but hopefully this covered most of what you were looking for. ♦ When it comes to dating Maeglin, it's going to be pretty hard not to notice that Maeglin has been through horrible things.

♦ Between the intimate and obvious knowledge of his father murdering his mother, it's going to be clear that there were other things he had been through too.

♦ Maeglin is very iffy when it comes to opening up and regards you with suspicion even despite the fact that you two are courting.

♦ Especially when you announce that you need to discuss something with him, it makes him really anxious to hear it and he might assume- very obviously- that he is in trouble.

♦ Even if it is just for a simple talk, you will find that Maeglin will ask you straight up if he's done something wrong.

♦ OR he will profusely apologize for something he has done wrong, he doesn't really do well with the suspense of whatever that conversation might be and needs reassurance that he's not in trouble of some kind.

♦ Maeglin also tends to be a people pleaser, because of how Eol treated him.

♦ You will find that often times he goes out of his way to do things for you for your approval, even if it was completely unnecessary.

♦ That and he tends to take too much, no matter how annoyed or upset he might get, and he won't let you in on it until he's exploding and its come out of nowhere.

♦ When unfortunately he's been doing everything under the sun to please you and make you happy, neglecting his own emotions and needs.

♦ It takes a lot of patience, and understanding to get him to learn how to set boundaries that are fair and reasonable for him so he can navigate his life without any stress.

♦ Because Maeglin is used to walking on egg shells around everyone, it takes some time for him to not do the same with you.

♦ You'll notice that he often times seems to "test the waters" by being apprehensive or not coming straight out with the fact that he has a request or a simple question or talking about his emotions.

♦ Showing emotions especially is a big deal for Maeglin, because his father would've taught him that they are gender specific and "feminine" despite the fact that they are not.

♦ You'll probably find that it takes a long time to get Maeglin to open up about anything that isn't surface happiness.

♦ Getting into his real feelings is uncomfortable and difficult, and it takes a long time for him to get comfortable with you as a result of how his father treated him.

♦ It's not that he doesn't have feelings for you or doesn't care about you, it's just not easy to break years and years of habits that were formed by his abuse.

♦ Should the two of you ever argue, you'll probably find that Maeglin will completely and totally shut down around you.

♦ He probably won't want to keep up with the argument at all, and will probably just "lie there and take it", even if you are in the wrong and he is in the right.

♦ Maeglin has a lot of self loathing and thinks that he deserves whatever "bashing" or negative feelings you have towards him.

♦ He requires a lot of patience and understanding, especially when he has shut down on you. He really can't help it he just doesn't know what else he should do.

♦ Seeing that Maeglin has a lot of issues as a result of the C-PTSD he is suffering with, it would most definitely be in your best interest to get involved with a Healer.

♦ Someone who you could talk to about your concerns for Maeglin, and who you could eventually bring Maeglin too.

♦ He'd probably resist especially at first, thinking that there's nothing wrong with him and delving into his emotions is a woman's place not his.

♦ But Maeglin trusts you, and eventually that façade of everything being alright would crumble down and he'd let you take him to a Healer to be seen and start discussing what is going on with him.

♦ It would be a good way for the two of you to build a healthier relationship and set up a good foundation for trust in one another.

♦ It would also help Maeglin work through how badly his father treated him, and how it wasn't normal.

♦ Learning that Ada's aren't supposed to treat their children like dirt is a hard concept to accept and will most certainly need your support.

♦ Maeglin would be very grateful for any support you give and you sticking by his side through the tough things he will have to go through.

and all his towers cast down makes me jumpy in the best of ways. I am not usually an AU person, much less an enjoyer of this sort of extreme canon divergence, but this one really works for me. Can you talk a little about what motivated you to write it? Have you sorted out the endgame yet? That tag How to cope when ten ppl got eaten alive in front of u is so rich in potential! Thanks very much :)

first off thank you so much for your kind words, it always makes my day to hear that someone is enjoying my work!!

Second off, this AU was motivated by a variety of things. Some of my thought process is actually laid out in this post: I originally wanted to see Maglor and Lúthien girlbossing together (bc people always pit Daeron vs Maglor when Lúthien is clearly the superior singer...) and then I thought "omg I bet Maglor and Lúthien together would fuck up Angband" and then I thought I have to write this. Originally Finrod wasn't even going to play much of a role - rescuing him was just a catalyst for the plot!

But I am Finrod's #1 stan and the more I thought about his death/possible rescue, the more I realized just how much fell apart with his loss, and how cruel his death was. The guy most famous for having friends everywhere rode near-friendless to his ending and died after losing everyone who stuck with him. I decided: he deserved better, and thus the story took its current form, with one thread following Maedhros and Fingon dealing with the political fallout of the Nargothrond debacle, one thread following Beren, Luthien, and Maglor on the Silmaril Quest, and one thread following Finrod's recovery.

I have sorted out the endgame, although this fic continues to grow in scope. Originally it was going to be 10 chapters max and just feature Maglor stealing the Silmarils; now it is semi-plotted all the way through to the War of Wrath and I'm considering starting a series to fully cover all the themes I want to hit. Suffice to say this story is going to be going on for a very long time, haha.

I am proud of that tag you mentioned, because for all that Finrod wasn't initially supposed to feature that prominently in this AU, I think the tag sums up at least a third of what I want the story to be about. Finrod's story is particularly tragic to me because he loses so much of what defines him as a character in Tol-in-Gaurhoth. He's the Friend of Men, but nearly all of the Bëorians died in the Dagor Bragollach, and Finrod dies believing that he was unable to protect the one remaining descendant of Balan. He's a noted diplomat, but with one request Thingol has entirely torn apart any future hope of complete allyship/harmony between the Noldor and the Sindar. He's the King of Nargothrond, except the Nargothrondrim turned away from him. He went across the Ice for love of his cousins, but Turgon is gone and the Fëanorians betrayed him. The symbolism isn't subtle - he literally dies in the tower he built, that's been turned to evil and destruction...

So what I really want to explore in the Finrod part of this fic is: how would that have changed him, if he lived? Could he recover, from being torn apart so thoroughly? Would he want to? What would he choose to do about the whole Thingol situation, about Nargothrond, about the Union of Maedhros (should it arise)? And of course, there's one person who underwent a similar experience of being torn apart and unmade: what would Maedhros think about all of this? Would he be able to help?

Writing this story has been a true joy and a discovery, because the characters have come so fully alive in my head and I keep discovering things they would be concerned about/do/say that never occurred to me during my (minimal) outlining. For example, Beren was not initially even intended as a POV character, but he's such a fascinating kind of blank in the Lay that I felt an overwhelming curiosity about what he would have thought about in the wake of his rescue. Fingon wasn't really going to make an appearance in this fic, but then I thought - he surely helped with Maedhros' recovery, could he help with Finrod's? How would he respond to the Nargothrond debacle? And he must have been devastated to learn about Finrod's death, coming so close after he lost Angrod, Aegnor, and his father; how relieved he would be, to see Finrod at least saved! So there are many threads that emerged (and are still emerging) from this story that have been so much fun to weave into the narrative.

My personal dumb headcanon about Olwe’s rejection to Feanor’s request for ships:

Olwe did not even have the power/authority to order people to use their ships to carry Noldor to Beleriand. The ships were owned by their maker, or the community, not the king. He could not make decisions over private property for the actual owners.

Teleri had different political structure. For big decisions like this people would hold meetings and meetings, debate & vote & fight to reach an agreement.

It took a few sun years to sail to the other side and Feanor was not asking for just a couple ships. The ships were important part of Teleri elves’ life and they needed them daily for fishing and transportation.

No one had sailed across the ocean with those ships. They did not even know how to prepare for such voyage. Also they did not know if their ships would break down halfway.

There was likely great danger there. It was all dark and no tree light to guide them home on cloudy nights. Also Morgoth went to the other side, and they did not know what was happening across the sea.

Was it possible that there was a food shortage with the Trees dead? Then then population would have to rely more on what they could get from the sea. They needed those ships.

In general, Feanor was asking for A LOT. And Olwe was not in a position to make decisions for his people. And Olwe knew few people would be very willing to give up their ships. He probably told Feanor something like “you have to persuade them yourself I have no power to order them around.”

And Feanor did not understand it and thought Olwe was just unwilling to help

(Noldor’s realms in Beleriand were WEIRD. You are free to leave if you disagree with people but it seemed like you have to follow the rules of you wanted to stay. Then there was Turgon being able to make bad decisions as king. Did people in Gondolin get to vote over whether to evacuate or not?)

(Meanwhile it was stated that Elwing did not give up Silmaril partially because the people in Sirion refused to give away the gems.)

Also, Feanor’s plan of going to Beleriand. It was a CRAZY plan.

Noldor did not even know how to sail! They got stirred up by Feanor’s speech and they were driven by loyalty and hope and will. Those were not things that helped you to cross the great ocean. You needed careful planning and a lot of resources.

Olwe’s pov:

Your old friend was murdered in his house. Now his poor kid clearly driven half-crazy by the grief is asking you to help him to go to another continent to track down the murderer.

The murderer was a powerful immortal god-like bring that even the gods out there struggled to fight.

The kid did not even have a plan he was just figuring things out along the way.

He also somehow brought this large number of people with him on his quest. Like WHY. There were children in the group.

Of course you will try to convince the kid to rethink the plan. There wasn’t even a plan!! You wanted to stop your friend’s kid from doing foolish thing and dooming his people along the way.

Then somehow the kid killed your people and stole their ships over their dead bodies.

She's so strong and brave, even against really difficult odds and self doubt. The survival of any Gondolindrim is in a huge part down to her, thanks to her careful planning not only in devising and building her secret way, but also in secretly spreading the word among the population. And she, realistically, struggles and doubts herself - as the city starts to fall she cries and thinks that there's no way she can succeed - but she perserveres anyway, and it was not for nothing, for the survivors escape the city and make it to Sirion.

I'm not a fan of the fandom's tendency to reduce her to "the one with the brain cell". YES, she is incredibly intelligent, possessing potentially genius level intelligence when it comes to maths, physics, logistics and leadership. But she's also more than that. She experiences self-doubt, grief (in tfog she nearly goes mad with grief when Turgon dies), is literally plauged by visions, and in the lead up to the fall of the city she reads as really depressed. Reducing her to the braincell holder gives her no space to be vulnerable or in need of comfort herself.

She's a hobbyist metalworker, and especially fond of intricate filigree-type work. Her mithril prosthetics are made by Rog, but she decorates them and also performs her own routine repairs and upkeep.

Her relationship with her father is really sweet and sad. It's easy to see in tfog that they deeply love and care about each other, but are struggling to understand each other at this point in their relationship as Idril's anxiety and planning clashes with Turgon's pride and reliance on Maeglin. Idril keeping the building of the secret way from her father is obviously hard for her, and her grief when he dies is so sad.

one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more

I'd love to see any Idril and Elwing interactions! I'm sure Idril felt very tender and protective towards this quiet orphan girl that her son is best friends with, and she would also understand Elwing's responsibilities towards her people and her grief for her mother.

She and Tuor did reach Valinor, but not until after Earendil had risen in the sky. In the meantime, they were caught up in a storm of Osse which felt to them to last for only hours (and Tuor did not age during this time) but actually lasted for decades. A bit of an Urashima Taro situation.

Elrond! Unlike some of the other sets of twins in Tolkien, these two are defined by how different they are, and yet they clearly still love each other so much, as is seen by Elrond taking care of Elros' descendents.

Ulmo. He seems much more connected to the sea than Elrond, and the Ulmo connection passing from Tuor to Earendil to him feels logical. He named several children after the Valar so seems to feel an affinity for them. I bet he and Ulmo had some interesting chats!

Russingon WIP

Maitimo's left hand was still caught and so he could do nothing but follow dumbly when Finno pulled him closer to the water and bent to trail fingers through the shaded mirror of the forest pool.

"Hold still," Finno said. Maitimo would have turned to stone and remained unmoving until Arda Remade, if Finno had asked him to. He couldn't help the shiver that raced down his back when damp fingers wiped at his temple, his cheek. Each brush turned the skin beneath it liquid, yielding, desperate.

Don't go, he thought when Finno bent to wet his fingertips again. He wanted Finno to never let go of his hand, for him to close his teeth around Maitimo's throat and shake. He wanted to press Finno to the ground and pull the gold ribbons from his braids and follow the spill of his dark hair into the forest pool with reverent fingers.

Glorfindel’s day had been dragging out for far too long and he was exhausted. He didn’t want to admit it but,,,he was so tired…He knows that he is supposed to be the optimistic beacon for his people but it was so difficult to keep up sometimes…

God he just wants to see you, today has been too much and he was desperate for your loving embrace. As his feet dragged him to the door of your shared chambers, he sluggishly pushed it open and stumbled in.

He was met with your concerned gaze as you strode towards him. When you reached him, your soft hands cupped his face and he leaned into your soft touch, sighing as he did. This simple domestic bliss made the hardship of the day all worth it.

“Are you alright darling?” you asked softly, “You look exhausted” He let a soft laugh slip past his lips at that little remark. “I feel it… I’m just glad to be home.”

He leaned forward and placed his forehead against yours, closing his eyes as he did. This…These are the moments when he could practically feel the love radiating from you, and he felt a smile twitch onto his face as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders.

“I ran you a bath darling, I thought you might be worn out by the time you got home”. He felt himself give out an almost whimper at such a simple yet loving act. You were always doing small things like this for him, you reason that you just wanted to help him feel a little better, and by Eru you always did.

“I definitely enjoy a bath, and I wouldn’t say no to you joining me” He couldn’t help the teasing tone that slipped into his voice with that remark, but in reality, he just wanted to have you there so the both of you could hold one another and forget the woes of the day.

“Well, I don’t think I can turn down such a wonderous offer” You smiled up at him with warmth and love unlike anything he had ever seen and at that moment Glorfindel felt such a strong rush of love for you that he couldn’t resist the urge to scoop you up and walk the pair of you towards the bathroom to enjoy your small moment of peace.

When he reached the bathroom, you helped him undress and climb into the tub. As the warm water began to work its magic on his aching form, you reached for a jug and conditioning potion to wash his golden hair with. As your talented hands began soothing his scalp with soap, and his eyes began to flutter close, Glorfindel’s mind travelled to you and all your kind deeds.

“Thank goodness he had you to make the sunrise sweeter and the nights so comforting,” Glorfindel thought to himself. He doesn’t know how else he would be able to cope, and with that sweet thought, he felt himself drift into a peaceful sleep.

I’m not sure Elwing is officially a queen without the realm, but the lathrim might regard her as one? I do think Elwing has a queenly air, born and then cultivated. Maybe to the Teleri she at first seems a scared girl but they see that air and feel…courage? Maybe Elros has that air the Edain see? It’s easy for me to see them both giving off such vibes, whereas kingly Eärendil or Elrond is…amusing…

I love what you said about Elwing and the Teleri, that's definitely what I think too! When she starts talking some of the older ones are reminded of Elu Thingol convincing them to take on the Journey... I had NOT thought of Elros in these terms but it is also easy to see him showcasing the charisma necessary to make people follow you into a journey to an unknown land, full of bliss and promise, to make a home there :')

Re: the scaffolding I use to hold up my queen Elwing headcanon (I got wordy):

We know the Sindar have hereditary monarchy because Dior inherited from Thingol; we don't know whether Lúthien was skipped because they don't have women queens (like every other goddamned Tolkien monarchy) or because she clearly had No Interest in doing that (my hc and IMO a reading that makes the most sense regardless of what Tolkien intended for Sindar laws of succession). Regardless, there are no other heirs who could claim that title during her lifetime.

The matter of Earendil as a king is tricky because Turgon was king of Gondolin; Earendil should have inherited that throne (since Idril can't because Woman), but Gondolin was destroyed. Some fellow nerds argue Turgon WAS High King of the Noldor, but to me that's a big fat joke lol, maybe he had an arguable claim but that's all... Earendil COULD inherit that possible argument for a claim but it doesn't seem like he does or like anybody ever considers it. He has no means to enforce it even if he wanted to. The only claim to kingship Earendil would have would be to Gondolin, if it still existed. 

disclaimer that this is just my preferred HC at the moment, but here goes:

Thingol was their king since before the First Age, and many of them are only there in Beleriand because they didn't want to leave without him in the first place. My HC is that the Sindar are greatly attached to Thingol as a monarch figure. I think that plays into how easily they adopt Dior as the new king: I think they WANT to have a king.**

My HC also is that being the king of the Sindar involved, for Thingol, much less administrative work than for the kings of the Noldor. Why this headcanon? IDK, just vibes. The Sindar are no longer actively participating in a war effort, and inside the Girdle we don't really get a farming vibe. We know Círdan sends Thingol pearls, but there's nothing very clear on whether that's like, tribute, or just a gift. There's trade, of course, with Dwarves and other elves, but that's a Doriath issue, not a Sindar issue. He's not telling Círdan who to trade with or how to do it... But when he issues the Quenya ban, for example, he's not (unlike some very creative fans seem to think) sending a secret police of Sindar elves to enforce it. He counts on his people's willingness to listen to his commands, even those who are beyond the Girdle, and it seems like that's exactly what they do. They defer to his authority when he requests it, but it doesn't seem like he (needs to) request it very often.

This all to say that it is my common assumption that being a loyalist to Thingol and his line is a cultural thing for many Sindar, including, ofc, the ones who escaped with Elwing to Sirion. It makes a lot of sense to me that she would be seen by her people as the queen of the Sindar, so I like to HC that :)

Having A S/O With Curly Hair

Headcanons: Maedhros, Celegorm, Fingon, Turgon, Finarfin, Thingol, Beleg, Elrond

A/N: A little something for all my curly-haired readers :) Enjoy!

˚ ༘♡ ⋆｡˚ Maedhros

I headcanon his hair being luscious curls, so Mae definitely knows how to style your hair. Don’t worry about detangling, he has that down perfectly and will even listen as you explain the hair products and oils you use to keep your hair soft and silky. He’ll even suggest some of his own home remedies that he uses to keep his hair tangle-free.

Mae would have tons of hairpins and clips, ribbons and hair-holders just for you whenever he had to style your hair. The issue is that your hair takes way longer than his to handle. A few times, he had got his hand stuck in the locks in your curls. One minute you’ll hear him chatting lively, and the next, he’s silent. That’s when you know he ran into some problems. It’s funny if you asked him about it because he’ll reply with, “No, no, it’s alright, I’m fine. I know what I’m doing.” It takes him a long time before he gets his hand out and asks for your assistance to hold parts of your hair.

Now don’t get me started, he might not appear as someone who knows much about fancy hairdos, but the minute he sees how springy your hair is, he is suddenly the best hairstylist ever. Whenever you have to style your hair, you would see Tyelko popping into the room so he can attempt some braid he learned from other hunters.

The look of determination on his face just to part your hair in sections is pure bliss. He takes styling your hair as seriously as hunting; do not disturb him. Either he bites your hand or smacks it with the comb (like most of our mothers). The problem is, as much as he styles your hair in a fancy braid, your hair is still tangled underneath. Even when your hair is loose, his hands are always running through it and then getting stuck. You feel tugs against your scalp, and as you look up, there is Tyelko fighting a battle with your curls wrapped around his fingers. “Your hair is always trying to eat me; it's hungry like you.”

˚ ༘♡ ⋆｡˚ Fingon

He got curly hair just like you, so you’re partners in crime. Fingon allows you to use all his hair products and home remedies for detangling and achieving soft and silky curls. Most of the time, it’s him who’s doing all the hair styling, whether it’s simple or extravagant, he does your hair. You don’t have to worry about him tugging and pulling it if he gets stuck while styling. Also, this means that you get the best hair accessories since he knows all the good ones for curly hair.

He understands the struggles of curly hair, especially when it’s brushed out and becomes one giant puff of floof. One day when you need to wash your hair, he’s there with all the shampoos and oils and purposefully takes you out to see your hair puffy after being airdried. Don’t worry, he pities you and would lend you his ribbons and hairpins to keep the wildness tamed. However, when he isn’t styling your hair and his fingers are running through the curls, they do get caught and he’ll just look at your hair before commenting, “Your hair doesn’t want us to part. It’s keeping me trapped!”

˚ ༘♡ ⋆｡˚ Turgon

Poor baby has watched his elder brother with all his voluminous hair and wonders how he keeps it tamed; now has to do the same with you. Turgon is making trips to his brother constantly to beg for assistance so he could braid your hair without causing discomfort—he bought many pretty hairpins and clips for you to use. He learned the hard way that using a brush on curly hair isn’t the best option.

Turgon treats your hair delicately and only touches it when you request his help, other than that, he’s watching in awe as you handle your hair with ease. He’ll sit for hours and throw tons of questions so he can understand how to deal with the volume ad curls. From there, he’ll grow braver and attempt to apply simple small braids to your hair and put some flowers in between. He’s so eager to attempt fancier braids in your hair, thus, he puts a lot of effort into spending time learning and practising how to care for your curls. The bravest act he’ll manage to do without worrying would be patting your hair. “It’s so delicate and pillowy, so many curls…”

˚ ༘♡ ⋆｡˚ Finarfin

He’s amazed and in awe by the volume of curls you’re bringing to the table dearie. Even when your style your hair, you always leave sections open for the natural curls to be on show, he’s gawking. You’ll see his fingers twitching to reach out and touch a few strands because he’s never seen someone with so many curls. Finarfin considers your hair to be clouds at this point because it appears fluffy.

Finarfin would sit for hours and just adore the way you comb your hair with ease and then become flustered when you request his assistance. He’ll become stunned and point at himself to clarify that you want him to style your hair or comb it out. You’ll teach him how to section your hair to make it easier for styling and detangling, and in return, he’ll gift you a ton of hair accessories. One day, you’ll receive a box full of beautiful hair clips and ribbons to wear in your hair. “I hope these can make up for how beautiful your hair is.”

˚ ༘♡ ⋆｡˚ Thingol

He acts like your hair isn’t anything fancy or amazing, but deep down, he’s asking everyone who has curly hair for advice and then threatening to stay silent. This way, when he approaches you to style your hair with ease, he’s a professional at it. But it doesn’t stop his fingers from becoming ensnared by your untamed curls whenever he becomes a little too proud of his accomplishments.

Sometimes, he’ll sit quietly with a glass of wine and observe as you make parts in your hair and add twists and braids, or he would hover. Handing you clips and ribbons, combs and pins while fluttering about like some bee, ensuring that it fits, and you look beautiful. That way, he’ll know to order more hair accessories as gifts. Thingol’s favourite moment is when your hair is loose and free-flowing in the wind; whether it cascades down your back or stops at your shoulder, he marvels at all the richness of the curls. Using your hair on him is a good way to avoid arguments, just come with your hair open and he’ll lose focus midway because your hair is distracting. “It’s like you have a natural crown on your head all the time.”

˚ ༘♡ ⋆｡˚ Beleg

Another hunter who wants to eagerly experiment on your hair with new hairstyles he learned from all the other guards during his time away. He’ll even politely ask the princess if she could teach him some braids for curly hair so that he can reciprocate on yours. When he returns, he comes bearing gifts and eager fingers to get tangled in your curls. 

In the middle of him talking himself through the process he learned, you’ll hear his voice growing silent as he messes up a braid or got his finger ensnared. His soft voice followed by a nervous chuckle will be heard as he calls you for help. “Ah���help please?” His favourite times are washing day. He’ll sit and help you shampoo and oil the roots of your scalp, carefully sectioning your hair and listening to your advice. When you’re finished, he’ll offer to detangle and give you some simple braids to keep your hair neat.

˚ ༘♡ ⋆｡˚ Elrond

He knows how to handle your hair professionally and with delicate care; you’ll feel as though he’s putting you to sleep as he brushes and combs through all the tangles. No head jerking or crying out in pain as he detangles and braids, it’s smooth sailing. Just know that Elrond had read lots of books on how to handle curly hair before attempting to battle with yours.

On leisure days, as you both are sitting or cuddling, his fingers would comb through your curls despite knowing they would become trapped. His fascination with your curls and their springiness of them is never-ending; he’ll give tiny tugs to them as he becomes playful. “Beautiful hair for a beautiful lover. Unique just like you,” he’ll whisper before planting a kiss on your floof of curls. You can always count on Elrond to style your hair in the most extravagant braids and styles, accompanied by beautiful accessories he commissioned for you.

So from my point of view if somehow  Mablung finds out you are a member of the House of Hurin and you are alive this ellon will be astonished

He more than anyone has known the fate of your family and the worst thing is that he tried to help them but he couldn’t

So Mablung will be incredibly protective over you not wanting for you to suffer the same fate as your family, besides he thinks he has still a debt with your family

When it comes to you slaying dragons he will rather help you to do it than prohibiting you to do it

He is aware of what Glaurng did to your family so he will help you to take vengeance in your own way

♥️Maedhros

If this Feanorian finds out you are a member of the House of Hurin he will be kind of shocked at first, he has heard of the fate of your family as many others

One thing that join you and him is the fact that Melkor and Sauron have made your lives impossible

So he will be completely understanding with you and will comfort you as you will comfort him every time bad memories return

He is aware that you slay dragons and he will not oppose to you in any way

But Maedhros will let you know how preoccupied he is about you going to kill dragons cause he doesn’t wants to loose you

If you have the luck to arrive to Gondolin and meet this ellon he will probably recognize who you are

He knows about the fate of your family and he had the chance to meet Hurin and Huor when they were young, and he appreciated both of them

He will feel sad at first cause he misses his old friends and you remind him of them but he will grow to love you too

Turgon will probably not let you go out of Gondolin for any circumstance, not because he wants you too keep you captive but because he want to protect you

But if you got the chance to fight against a Dragon (probably during the fall of Gondolin) he will let you do it

♥️Maeglin

Maeglin had the chance to meet Huor and Hurin during their stay on Gondolin, so he knows about Morgoth’s curse on Hurin’s family

Even though he doesn’t got along with Hurin and Huor he might probably have found some special interest in you

Besides he understands perfectly your dark past because he has one too, so he will support you as you will support him

Maeglin will be very possessive over you cause he wants to protect you from Morgoth’s curse

So if you ant to go out of Gondolin and kill dragons he will help you to sneak outside of the city but only because he trusts deeply in you

Glorfindel it’s a sweetheart and from my point of view he is one of the elves who would most likely court a human

So he will get attracted to you not only because of your personality but because of your family’s history

Besides he is a ray of pure sunshine and he will make sure to brighten your days everyday making you forget the past events

He will have you close every time he can, not because he wants to be clingy, but because he wants to make sure you are happy

He is a “Balrog slayer” and a great warrior so you will be a great couple cause you are a “Dragon slayer”, both brave and courageous

Hello! I have a minor surgery in about half an hour and am very nervous so I thought I’d share some random Silm and Narn headcanons that have been in my head lately!

Requests and asks are definitely open and welcome though I might not be able to complete them today, I’d still love them for a distraction

1. Húrin and Huor were terrified when they were first dropped into Gondolin. The adrenaline rush of the initial attack still hadn’t entirely left them and Húrin in canon tells Turgon he’s afraid of heights and was really overwhelmed on the flight there. So their first few days there they are pretty frantic and upset, not knowing if they would ever see their family again, etc. 

Glorfindel and a few of the other lords of Gondolin attempt to cheer them up before realizing they have absolutely no idea what Edain children like. Glorfindel eventually admits this to them and it becomes something of a joke between them. For example Glorfindel will bring Húrin a stick and say “Human children like these, right?” as though he’s very proud of himself. 

2. Tulkas is rather shy among the other Valar especially at first. He came last to Arda and found himself among his kin who had already formed or been given connections between them. Despite being the champion of the Valar, the others have a sort of protectiveness over him, though of course prior to the confrontation at Utumno, the most they had to protect him from was mild teasing from one of the others. 

3. One elven ability perceived as magic to others is Object memory, particularly/primarily from organically made objects: The telepathic abilities of elves seems to be present throughout Tolkien’s writings but just how powerful these are or what forms they take isn’t always clear. I propose that one form they take is from the ability to get flashes of memory (usually sense or emotional memory rather than a coherent picture) from objects that are made from organic objects. 

4. Like many human cultures, the elves of Valinor and Middle Earth view bathing not only as a necessity but also as a bonding experience. Though buckets of water, streams and in some places, pumps, are used for short cleansing rituals, Valinor also has warm springs and bath houses. Though views on nudity vary from people to people, nudity regarding bathing is unremarkable and elves frequently bathe together. 

Darker ones (mostly just under a cut for length to be honest) (blanket Angband warning for captivity, mentions of torture. These are mostly about either Húrin or Maedhros but contain some general Angband HCs too!) 

1. Húrin and Maedhros have the same scars on their shoulders from being bitten. 

2. Gothmog got so irritated at Húrin during his initial capture he ended up losing a bet with another higher up about if/when Húrin would give up Gondolin because he refused to bet in his favor. (Even if he didn’t know precisely what Húrin was being interrogated for he knew that he was being interrogated for something) These sort of bets and challenges are common among the crueler captains and generals who have more knowledge of Melkor’s plans. They also definitely have ratings/rankings about the various captives in their charge, same with the overseers in the mines and who are in charge of groups of slaves. (some more information here) Knowing any elven language is not a requirement for being in charge of slaves in Angband (except in cases where prisoners are used for specific or precise enough work that instructions are clearly needed). Sometimes prisoners who have been there for a long time are given permission to speak to newer captives to inform them of rules or give them instructions. For the most part conversation in the mines is heavily policed but plenty of the slaves there have worked out systems of how to avoid detection if they choose to risk it, the overseer to elf ratio is pretty large. (as in many elves per overseer) These older prisoners are both loved and hated by their kin.

Elves Dressing Up for Halloween

Gondolin

Halloween Request:  Hello! For a Halloween request, could I ask for headcanons of what the elves of Gondolin would dress up as for a costume? Would any be extremely hesitant? Would any be receptive to couples costumes? Thank you (and if not, thanks for taking time to read this!) 😌 - @sterling-roses

Turgon

Turgon honestly isn’t one for dressing up at all on Halloween and will not be partial to even couples costuming. If anything he would much rather host a party and keep his usual attire than have to dress up as anything. Even if it is customary. 

At most you may get a masquerade mask on him and that is as far as it will go. So every year, being quite the creature of habit, he prefers to go as a King than let his hair down a little and relax. Though Turgon will support you in almost whatever costume you decide to go in AS LONG AS it is appropriate. 

Nothing inappropriate or overly sexual as Turgon is a little bit of a prude. Though he won’t fight you too hard and be considerably flustered all night over it and bite his tongue. He’ll eventually grow used to whatever costume he may not find appropriate but it certainly takes some time for him to get used to it. 

Glorfindel

Glorfindel loves dressing up, being the big ray of sunshine that he is, and has a lot of fun dressing up! He is really creative and thinks outside the box on the costume ideas that he comes up with. 

And when you ask him to dress up in couples costuming he immediately jumps at the chance to be able to do so. Glorfindel also loves to be able to help create these said out of the box costumes too. For example you have a ton of cardboard boxes at your disposal, he will absolutely spend the time to make a costume out of it. Robot? Fish tank? Washing Machine? He’ll put it together.

Glorfindel also really loves puny costume ideas too. Anything that can be a big play on words he is bound to figure out an idea for you both to wear. No matter how ridiculously cheesy that idea might be, Glorfindel will absolutely run with it. He has a blast coming up with the ideas. 

You are absolutely welcome to assist in coming up with something, Glorfindel loves to hear any of your ideas. And if you are more partial to an idea that you have, he is happy to relent to you and get your costumes put together with whatever theme you prefer. Either way, Glorfindel is just really happy to spend time with you like this!

Ecthelion

Ecthelion is pretty rigid and formal and strict, so when it comes to dressing up for Halloween, he isn’t all too elaborate in dressing up. If anything he may add an accessory or two to a really nice outfit, but it is never anything over the top. 

So when you suggest couples costuming, Ecthelion is a little hesitant to join you in any of the ideas that you might have. They might need to start off relatively conservative and more classic like Period specific costuming or Historical Figures or something Masquerade style. 

He feels a little odd all dressed up, especially since it is not the one or two accessories that might dress up his costume. But Ecthelion trusts you deeply to not put him in something ridiculous or make him look ridiculous and tries to enjoy the fun of the night all dressed up. 

I do not recommend really letting him choose in the beginning of your costume couple planning because he will not venture even into the more conservative spaces. Choosing to keep it more to what he is already comfortable with. 

Rog

Rog loves to dress up and though he does, his costumes can be pretty simple. Happy to dress up and throw together whatever he might have at home. Even if it means wearing work attire for Halloween. A blacksmith is technically a costume. 

So when you suggest couples costuming, Rog is really happy to let you take the reins and lead the way on what to dress up as! He’s a lot of fun and can easily get super into character with it. Such as if you want to dress him up like he walked right out of Woodstock 1960 and give him a few verbal cues to use, he will shamelessly use them. 

Rog’s a big ball of fun and the life of the party, and after the first time you two couples costume expect to couples costume from then on out. Cops and Robbers, Period Costuming, Heavenly Themed, Character Specific, whatever it may be he is down for it (unless it is offensive). The ellon will absolutely costume with you in those inflatable costumes and have a ball with it. Inflatable sumo or dinosaur is absolutely up for grabs. 

Just know you will probably have to have it custom made and fitted for him properly. And Rog will absolutely try to wrestle or horseplay with someone in the said inflatable costumes. Anticipate that he may go home in it with it deflated because he will eventually pop it.

Penlod

Penlod in his true fashion is dressing up as a Historical Figure. You’ve told him how costumes work and that he can be anything he wants to be, and the ellon is going to choose the most interesting Historical Figure he can. 

He will absolutely be as detailed accurate as he can be, from the costume and to the accessories. Penlod puts a lot of attention into his costume and the little pieces that bring it all together. 

Penlod will absolutely do couples costumes together, but he will not budge on it not being a historical figure. He WILL consider being a regular civilian in x time period if thats what you wish! Ancient Greece? 1400′s Renaissance? French Rocco? 1800′s? 1920′s? 50′s? You name it and he will dress up as it. He’s a sucker for histories and will happily spend time compiling a costume that is just as detailed as his!

You both will absolutely look like you’ve walked right out of the era you two dressed up as. With Penlod indulging facts about the era to anyone who will listen to him. 

Egalmoth

Egalmoth loves being able to dress up really exquisitely and jumps at any opportunity to be able to do so. His costumes are so incredibly elaborate and gem and fine stitch filled they’re absolutely heavenly to look upon. 

Sometimes he really doesn’t even pick a theme of what he wants to dress up as when it comes to Halloween. Egalmoth just wants to dress up nicely, he’s a little bit of the “he’s got the spirit but is confused” saying. Though he is absolutely  aware that he is supposed to pick a theme. He just chooses to not always do so.

He will absolutely couples costume with you, but when he does, Egalmoth absolutely wants to pick the theme. He’s bold so he is unafraid to pick unearthly themes like dressing up as the Vala of such regal nature, or Ancient Gods in rich costume style or Angels or Monarchy. Anything that allows him to be able to put you both in an incredibly unearthly and regal status he is here for. 

Anticipate that Egalmoth, like Penlod, has an extreme eye for detail. So no expense will be spared and your simple costume will quite quickly become a luxurious and intricate affair. 

Galdor

Galdor is really go with the flow and has a knack for choosing a good costume with his more go with the flow nature. Though he won’t really dress up unless he finds it necessary to do so for like a party. If he’s solo on Halloween he’s more likely to just stay cozy. But when it comes to couples costuming, he is all for it!

Galdor’s only preference is that he prefers the nature themes, but he won’t strictly adhere to them and will explore other costume themes with you. The only line he will draw is if he finds any of the themes to be vulgar or offensive in anyway.

Whether you two are Witches and Wizards together or the Angel and Devil, Galdor is going to be happy to meet your expectations. He’s got a pretty good sense of humor though and will be happy to dress up in awkward costumes or whatever other humorous costuming you might come up with.

Maeglin

Maeglin is completely and totally hesitant at the idea of dressing up as anything. The idea of just dressing up as whatever, just seems like an open line for someone to possibly criticize what he has chosen and that is an immediate dislike for Maeglin. 

As for couples costuming its really really REALLY going to take some convincing to get him to participate. If anything, the first few Halloweens he is probably not going to be receptive to any of it at all. Totally opting to just tagging along while you dress up. 

Though he gives in to the peer pressure of everyone asking him where is his costume or hearing how it would be cute if you two dressed up together. Maeglin absolutely lets you choose what you want to dress up as, but I warn that you might want to start out far more conservative and safe options like him being a Knight and you being a Princess/Prince or perhaps you’re both Pirates or maybe you dress up like Ancient Greeks/Romans. 

Something that isn’t going to be too over the top, but just enough out of his comfort zone people will recognize that you dressed up.
