"you just need to develop a thick skin"
No amount of "thick skin" will bring back Brianna Ghey
No amount of "thick skin" will bring back Nex Benedict
No amount of "thick skin" will undo the brutal attack on that poor girl from London who just wanted to go rollerskating with her friends
No amount of "thick skin" is going to stop more trans kids from being fucking murdered and attacked
You wanna "protect the children"? Start with protecting the ones being harassed by your own children for who they are, preferably before they get stabbed in parks and have their heads smashed in in bathrooms.

One of our siblings was murdered recently, and you need to know about it.
TW // transphobia and violence against trans people
Brianna Ghey was a 16-year-old trans girl from Warrington, England. On Saturday, February 11th 2023, Brianna was found dead on the side of a park with multiple stab wounds. Two 15-year-olds have been taken into custody in connection with her murder.
Tumblr media
People in the Warrington area have alleged that Brianna was being bullied in school, and that neither the administration nor the police did anything.
Despite this, local police have said there is no evidence that the attack was hate-based and most news articles don't mention her status as a trans woman. This is deliberate. This is genocide by the hands of transphobes and TERFs.
Britain does not have gender self-identification (your legal gender being determined by how you identify and not any arbitrary medical requirements), meaning even in her death she will be deadnamed and misgendered on her death certificate.
She deserved so much better.
Mourn the dead, and fight like hell for the living.
EDIT: A verified GoFundMe has been set up for Brianna.

You're scared of your kids seeing rainbows.
We're scared of our kids being beaten to death.
Know the difference.
This is why we march.
This is why we fight.
This is why we have Pride.

Rest in Power, Nex Benedict
A 16 year old kid who loved nature and looking after their cat Zeus. Who enjoyed reading, watching the Walking Dead, and playing Ark and Minecraft. They loved to cook and would often make up their own recipes. They did well in school, being a straight-A student. Rest in power a teen who was human and had interests and ambitions and challenges and friendships. A trans youth who was brutally murdered just for being trans, when that was only a fragment of who they were as a person.
Nex Benedict, Jacob Williamson, Brianna Ghey, and other trans youth like them were real people with real lives. They deserved better, longer, happier lives. They deserved to grow up and not fear for their lives. They deserve to be remembered as who they were, not just as another trans kid who was killed, as people with families and normal human lives.

I’m so sick of people constantly trying to diminish and bring trans rights into question by trying to hide under the guise of “protecting children” because the result of that rhetoric has been the murder of a trans teenager. People who oppose trans rights do not give two shits about protecting children and people need to stop acting as though they have “a point” in this conversation because their ideologies lead to actions like this being carried out. Brianna was sixteen. She was a child.

I'm so done mourning the loss of fellow trans kids while the media dead names them. I'm so done with the people who refuse to acknowledge the reason these trans kids are no longer here is because of the way they chose to live their life. I'm so sick and done with a world that's been built in a way that has set us up for failure.
Fuck TERFS transphobes and bigots. Trans rights

I unusually just share tweets, but given the amount of reblogs I'll edit this one:
INFO Update #1 from @misinfohunter
This is mostly misinformation.
UK law does not require transgender people to have a Gender Recognition Certificate in order to include their correct name and gender on a Death Certificate. However, this is subject to discretion and having a GRC does make the process less complicated.

There is no English government. England is controlled by the UK government.
Why does England not have its own parliament?

CENTRE ON CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGE
Sir Keir Starmer did voice the opinion that ‘16 is too young to decide legal gender’ during an interview on January 15th, 2023. This statement was made in reference to Scottish reforms to the Gender Recognition Act.

The UK Labour leader voices "concerns" about the Scottish government's reforms to the process.

INFO Update #2 from @momagainstcatboys
this is not true. i understand people are upset and the legislation is legit nightmarish but there is no legal requirement for your gender on your death certificate to match that on your birth certificate, nor do you need a gender recognition certificate. it merely requires that those registering the death note the correct gender with the registrar. obviously this legislation can be applied unevenly and families are bs but it’s important that people know their rights on this, and spreading misinformation helps no-one.

Brianna Ghey was 16.
Nex Benedict was 16.
Pauly Likens was 14.
River Goddard was 17.
Tayy Dior Thomas was 17.
And I'm sure you'd all be perfectly content to forget about murdered children.

Glad to hear Brianna Ghey’s family have found justice. Both defendants being found guilty of her murder.
She deserved better from a political and media class who’s rhetoric gave rise to the society that killed her.
